IGCSE Home Tutor in LA Mer

Parents searching for an IGCSE home tutor in LA Mer are usually asking a money question before they ask a teaching question. This page answers the money question first: what the Dubai market charges by the hour and by the month, what the travel premium on a beachfront address in Jumeirah 1 actually buys, and where the spend disappears without moving a grade. IB Gram teaches LA Mer students one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Lessons run live online, one-to-one; IB Gram makes no home visits in the UAE
  • Every AED figure here is an attributed market rate, never a quote from us
  • Cambridge codes named outright: 0580 Maths, 0620 Chemistry, 0625 Physics, 0610 Biology

IB & IGCSE in LA Mer

The cost question, answered before anything else

An IGCSE home tutor in LA Mer is quoted at a different price from the same tutor working online, and the gap is not small. Published market rates in Dubai put a qualified subject tutor working online at roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour, while a one-to-one in-home visit including travel sits at roughly AED 180 to AED 500. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai rate table gives 180 to 350 for a standard home visit and notes independent home tutors charging 200 to 500. Unitors publishes its IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and its IB tuition from AED 200. EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 an hour at the budget end, and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. None of those numbers are ours. They are the market you are shopping in, and the first useful thing a page like this can do is write them down, because three of the six competitor pages researched in October 2026 publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars.

The second useful thing is to say what the premium buys. On a LA Mer address the honest answer is travel. The beachfront strip runs along Jumeirah 1 between the Jumeirah Road and the sea, and a tutor driving in from Al Barsha, Mirdif or Silicon Oasis is absorbing forty minutes each way at six in the evening. That time is priced into the hourly rate whether the invoice itemises it or not. A family paying AED 350 for a 90-minute home session in Jumeirah 1 is paying somewhere around AED 100 of that for a car on the Jumeirah Road, and no part of that AED 100 teaches a child the difference between a Core and an Extended paper.

The third thing is where the money is wasted, which is rarely the hourly rate and almost always the match. A generalist tutor who covers maths, physics and chemistry for Years 7 to 11 will cost less per hour than a Cambridge IGCSE physics specialist, and will cost more per grade, because the Extended paper 4 on 0625 asks for things a generalist has never had to mark. Families in this part of Dubai frequently pay a mid-band rate for eighteen months and discover in February of Year 11 that nobody has ever shown the student a full mark scheme. That is the expensive mistake. The hourly rate is a rounding error next to it.

IB Gram works the other way round. Lessons for UAE families are delivered one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, and the tutor is chosen for the syllabus and the paper rather than for proximity to the Jumeirah coast. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Removing the drive from the equation removes the travel premium from the price and, more importantly, removes the twenty-minute radius from the shortlist. A LA Mer family gets the person who has marked Extended chemistry papers rather than the person who can be parked outside by 5:50pm.

What follows is the detail: the AED bands set out by tier and format, the monthly arithmetic rather than the hourly, a comparison of online against in-home for this specific address, the Cambridge and Pearson calendar counted backwards from results day, what the MoHRE private tutor permit means for whoever you hire, and the honesty line that separates teaching from the essay mills that sell completed coursework in this same search result.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

LA Mer sits inside a school catchment where most children move through a British route to IGCSE at sixteen, then split between A Level and the IB Diploma. These are the stages we cover and what each costs a family in tutoring terms.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE

Two examined years leading to the certificate most Dubai British schools award at sixteen. Cambridge syllabuses run on four-digit codes such as 0580 Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry and 0610 Biology; Pearson uses the 4MA1 and 4PH1 family. Papers are sat in the June and November series. Core and Extended tiering in several Cambridge subjects caps the attainable grade, which makes the tier decision a money decision as much as an academic one.

For MoE equivalency on the British track, a student must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among those five. One ranking UAE competitor states six subjects are required; the sourced figure is five. Getting this right changes which subjects a LA Mer family pays to support.

LSAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Lower Secondary and Checkpoint

The three years before IGCSE, where Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests run in March, May and October. This is the cheapest place to buy a grade, because an hour spent on algebraic fluency in Year 8 does work that no amount of Year 11 revision replicates. Tutoring here is usually one session a week on a single subject rather than an exam-season block.

Dubai families on the Jumeirah coast often arrive mid-stage from another system, and Year 7 to 9 is where a transfer gap shows up without an exam to expose it. Support at this stage is priced at the lower end of the market band because the content is less specialised, which makes it the best value window a family will get before Year 10.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

AS and A Level

The post-16 route taken by most students leaving Jumeirah College or Dubai College. Specialist A Level tuition sits in the AED 200 to AED 450 band in published market data, with TutorChase quoting AED 270 and premium named tutors reaching AED 650 at BartyED. Modular entry with Pearson and linear entry with Cambridge change the revision plan substantially.

MoE equivalency on the British track also requires one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. That single sourced requirement is worth knowing before a family drops a fourth AS to save a tuition line.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

The alternative post-16 route, offered at Jumeira Baccalaureate School and Emirates International School Jumeirah among others. Six subjects at Higher or Standard Level plus the core of Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and Creativity, Activity, Service. IB tuition prices higher than IGCSE across the market, with Unitors from AED 200 against its IGCSE from AED 150.

No IB points threshold for UAE Ministry of Education equivalency has been confirmed on an official source, so this page publishes none. A LA Mer family planning the Diploma should confirm the current requirement with the school's IB coordinator and the Ministry directly rather than take a figure from any tutoring site.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects LA Mer families request most, with what each one assesses and the place the marks actually go missing. Rates do not vary much by subject in the Dubai market, but the number of hours needed does.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580, Pearson 4MA1)

Core and Extended

Two written papers, no coursework. Extended reaches grade 9; Core caps at grade 5 on the Cambridge 0580 structure, which makes tier choice the single most consequential decision in the subject. Marks are lost on method presentation in multi-step questions and on the transformation, vectors and histogram topics that sit late in the scheme of work.

Physics (Cambridge 0625, Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Assessed on multiple choice, a theory paper and a practical paper. The practical component rewards students who can describe a method precisely enough for someone else to repeat it. Electricity, and specifically series and parallel reasoning with real component values, is where Extended candidates in Dubai schools shed the most marks.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620)

Core and Extended

Three papers including an alternative-to-practical or practical component. Moles arithmetic carries forward through half the syllabus, so a student shaky on relative formula mass in Year 10 is still losing marks in Year 11 organic questions. Qualitative analysis tables are pure recall and are the cheapest marks on the paper to recover.

Biology (Cambridge 0610)

Core and Extended

Content-heavy and deceptively forgiving until the command terms bite. Students who write everything they know about transport in plants score less than students who answer the verb in the question. Transport, homeostasis and inheritance generate the most dropped marks, usually on explain and suggest rather than on describe.

English Language

First Language and Second Language

Reading response and directed writing dominate the mark allocation. Second Language candidates in Dubai often sit the wrong specification for their actual fluency, which costs a grade before any teaching happens. Tutoring focuses on timing, on the summary task, and on writing to a specified audience rather than on vocabulary lists.

English Literature

IGCSE

Closed-text or set-text depending on specification, with an unseen poetry element in several routes. The failure mode is narration instead of argument. A paragraph that retells the plot of a set text scores in the bottom band however elegant the prose, and that is a habit a tutor can break in four sessions.

Additional and Further Mathematics

IGCSE and Additional

Taken by students heading for A Level Mathematics or Further Mathematics, often at Dubai College and Jumeirah College. Calculus notation and proof structure arrive here first and are the two things students carry into AS badly. Worth one session a week from the start rather than a rescue block in spring.

Economics and Business Studies

IGCSE

Data response and extended written answers with a heavy evaluation weighting. UAE students have plenty of real context to draw on and rarely use it. Marks sit in the final sentence of an evaluative answer, where a judgement with a reason is required and a summary of both sides is not.

Computer Science

IGCSE

Theory paper plus a problem-solving and programming paper. Pseudocode conventions are examined precisely, so a student who codes fluently in Python can still lose marks on paper. Trace tables and binary arithmetic are high-yield, teachable and routinely under-practised in school time.

Arabic as a Second Language

IGCSE and KHDA mandatory stream

Dubai private schools must teach Arabic alongside the licensed curriculum, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Many LA Mer families treat this as a compliance subject until a report grade forces attention. It responds quickly to short, frequent sessions.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways a LA Mer family buys IGCSE support, with what each costs in practice. All IB Gram delivery is live online and one-to-one; the other models are described because you are comparing them.

Weekly one-to-one online, term-long

One or two sessions a week on a single subject, running from September through to the exam series. This is the cheapest route to a grade because it spreads the hours across the period when the content is actually being taught, rather than buying them back in a panic in April. Billed per session, with the same tutor each week.

  • Sixty or ninety minutes, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time
  • Same tutor across the year, so nothing is re-explained
  • Session notes after each lesson, including what was not finished
  • Paused for school exam weeks rather than wasted on them

Exam-series block before June or November

A concentrated run of sessions in the eight to twelve weeks before a Cambridge or Pearson series, built around past-paper technique rather than new content. It costs more per grade than term-long support because recall and method cannot be rebuilt at the same rate they were lost, but it is the right purchase for a student who is close and misfiring.

  • Two or three sessions a week in the final six weeks
  • Worked under exam timing from the first session
  • Mark schemes read by the student, not just applied by the tutor
  • A written list of the topics that are not worth revising

Single-topic repair sessions

Two to four sessions aimed at one named failure: moles arithmetic, electrical circuits, transformations, summary writing. The cheapest intervention available and the one families underuse, because it requires naming the problem precisely instead of booking general help. A school report rarely names it; a past paper does.

  • Diagnosed from the student's own marked paper
  • Two to four sessions, then stop
  • No ongoing commitment or package
  • Repeatable later for a different topic

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in LA Mer

01

What an IGCSE home tutor in LA Mer costs, by the hour and by the month

  • Eight online hours a month against eight in-home hours: roughly half the cost for the same contact time
  • Exam-year specialist support is the only tier where the market regularly exceeds AED 2,000 a month
  • The budget tier is appropriate for homework supervision, not for Extended-tier exam technique
  • Ask any tutor for the syllabus code they teach before you ask for a rate

Start with the month, not the hour, because the month is what a family actually budgets. Bestimate's Dubai estimates for weekly one-hour sessions put a budget tutor at AED 240 to AED 600 a month, a mid-band tutor at AED 600 to AED 1,200, and a specialist in an exam year at AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more. Published package pricing in the market runs at AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Those two package prices are worth sitting next to each other: eight online hours against eight in-home hours is roughly double the cost for the same contact time.

The hourly table below puts the same information in the form competitors publish it in, so the figures can be checked. Every band comes from a named source read in October 2026. The budget tier is real and sometimes right for a Year 8 student who needs company while doing homework. It is almost never right for a Year 11 Extended candidate, because the person on the other end has not seen a mark scheme for the paper your child will sit.

What IB Gram charges is not in this table, and that is deliberate. Publishing an invented price list alongside sourced market data would make the sourced data less trustworthy, and the honest answer depends on subject, level and how many sessions a week. The route for a LA Mer family is the free trial lesson and a consultation, and the trial comes before any payment is taken so the price conversation happens after you have watched a tutor teach your child rather than before.

Where the money gets wasted on this coast

The three expensive mistakes in LA Mer are the same three everywhere in Dubai, but the beachfront location sharpens the first one. Mistake one is paying the travel premium and not noticing. A home visit rate includes the drive, and on Jumeirah 1 at 6pm the drive is long. If the tutor lives in Al Barsha, somewhere between a fifth and a third of the hourly rate is petrol and Sheikh Zayed Road. Parents who ask a visiting tutor for their online rate are frequently quoted AED 80 to AED 150 less for the identical hour.

Mistake two is paying for hours against the wrong tier. A Cambridge 0580 Core candidate cannot score above grade 5 on that route, so a family spending AED 1,500 a month chasing a grade 7 on the Core tier is buying something the specification does not sell. Equally, a student sitting Extended with gaps in Core content needs the gaps closed before any Extended technique is worth teaching. A tutor who does not look at the tier in the first session is a tutor who will bill you for the discovery later.

Mistake three is buying generalist hours for a specialist problem. A good all-round tutor at AED 180 an hour for forty weeks costs AED 7,200 and may well leave a student exactly where they started on the 0625 practical paper, because that paper rewards a particular kind of method writing that is rarely taught by anyone who has not marked it. Eight sessions with someone who has, at AED 280, costs AED 2,240 and moves the grade. The cheaper invoice is the more expensive purchase. That inversion is the single most useful thing to understand before you book anything.

Online against a home visit, for a LA Mer address specifically

This comparison is usually written as a list of generic advantages. For LA Mer it is worth writing as geography. The development sits on reclaimed beachfront off Jumeirah 1, with access from the Jumeirah Road and parking that fills in the evening. A tutor arriving for a 6pm session leaves their own area at around 5:10pm and leaves yours at about 7:40pm. That is two hours and thirty minutes of their working evening for one teaching hour, which is why in-home rates carry the premium they do and why a visiting tutor can realistically serve two families a night.

The consequence for the parent is not mainly cost. It is choice. A tutor who must physically reach Jumeirah 1 by 6pm has to live within a sensible radius, which reduces your shortlist to whoever is nearby and free. Online, the radius disappears and the shortlist is defined by the syllabus instead. For a mainstream subject such as 0580 maths this matters less. For Cambridge 0620 chemistry at Extended tier, or for an Additional Mathematics student heading into A Level, it is the whole difference between a specialist and whoever was available.

IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in the UAE, and this page will not pretend otherwise: home visiting is a service we run in India only. Everything for a LA Mer family happens over live video, one-to-one, in Gulf Standard Time, with a shared whiteboard and a recording of the session if the family wants one. Write on the board, both parties see it. That last point is the one parents are usually sceptical about and the one the free trial lesson settles in forty minutes.

Cambridge and Pearson sessions, counted backwards from results day

Nobody in this search result publishes a calendar, which is strange, because the calendar is what determines whether tutoring money is spent usefully. The first fact to fix is which series your child sits. Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level exams in a June series and a November series. The February/March series is offered to India only and does not apply to UAE candidates; a page that tells a Dubai parent to prepare for a March window is giving them a date they cannot use. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November.

Second, work backwards rather than forwards. Entry deadlines sit months before the paper, mock windows sit months before the entry closes, and the useful tutoring hours sit before the mocks, not after them. The Pearson November series gives the shape clearly: the final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and results reach students in January, with the November 2025 results landing on 22 January 2026. June results move faster, with the June 2026 results reaching centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026.

Third, check the zone. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Your child's school knows its zone. Ask the exams officer rather than reading a timetable off a tutoring site, including this one. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series and revises them, which is why the table below links behaviour rather than restating dates that move.

Is the tutor you are about to pay legally permitted to teach?

This is a cost question too, because an unpermitted tutor is a tutor who can stop appearing without notice. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 Regarding the Introduction of Private Tuition Work Permits, and it is granted free of charge for two years. Anyone quoting you a permit fee is quoting something that does not exist. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so this page quotes no amount; a figure circulating online as a specific dirham penalty could not be verified against any ministry source and should be ignored wherever you see it. The official application route is MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system, with a stated two-working-day completion time.

There is a separate constraint worth knowing on this coast. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Treat the ADEK detail as press-reported and check the current policy document before relying on the exact wording. The practical rule for a parent anywhere in the UAE is simple: do not arrange for your child's own class teacher to tutor them privately for money. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different animal again, requiring a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoE or MoHRE approval, accreditation or partnership, operates no UAE office or centre, and would be misrepresenting itself to suggest otherwise.

Coursework, and the line a tutor does not cross

  • A tutor teaches the skill, explains the criteria and gives feedback on the student's own draft
  • A tutor does not write, complete or rewrite assessed work
  • Official papers and mark schemes are referenced and linked, never supplied as downloads
  • Describe a tutor's role to your child in these terms before the first session

One of the pages competing for this search sells completed Internal Assessments. That is not a cheaper tutoring option; it is academic malpractice, and the consequence lands on the student, not the seller. IGCSE carries less assessed coursework than the IB Diploma, but several subjects still include a component the student must produce themselves, and anyone sitting IGCSE in a Dubai school is two years away from an IB Diploma or A Level where the stakes are considerably higher.

What a tutor may do is substantial and worth paying for. A tutor may teach the skills the task assesses, explain the criteria, read a draft the student has written and say where it falls short of the criterion, model the technique on a different example, and coach the planning and time management around a deadline. That is teaching, and it is the part that transfers. What a tutor may not do is write, complete, rewrite to a standard, or produce any part of work that must be the student's own. IB Gram tutors teach, review and give feedback; they do not write coursework.

There is a related rule on materials. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables and subject guides belong to Cambridge, Pearson and the IB. We reference them and link to the official source rather than reproducing or supplying them, and so should any tutor you hire. A tutor offering a private library of leaked or unreleased material is offering you a malpractice risk with your child's name on it. The honest version is less exciting and is the only version worth buying.

07

Tutoring cost in the context of a Dubai school bill

Tutoring spend only makes sense next to the fee it supplements. Dubai's private school sector served 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 different curricula in 2024-25, with the UK curriculum the largest segment by enrolment, followed by Indian, US and International Baccalaureate. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For a family on the Jumeirah coast that fee freeze is the first year in a while where the tutoring line has not had to compete with a fee rise.

Supply is moving too. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six new schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%. More places in the British and IB segments is relevant to a LA Mer parent in one specific way: it loosens the assumption that your child's current school is the only viable route to a good IGCSE outcome, and it changes the calculus on whether a persistent subject problem is a tutoring problem or a fit problem.

The practical framing is a simple ratio. A term-long weekly session in a mid-band is AED 600 to AED 1,200 a month against a school fee that, for the schools named on this page, is a multiple of that. Tutoring at one session a week is a small percentage of the education budget and buys a specific thing. Tutoring at four sessions a week across three subjects stops being a supplement and starts being a parallel school, and at that point the question to ask is not which tutor but why the school hours are not working.

The mandatory UAE subjects nobody budgets for

  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are required alongside IGCSE in Dubai
  • Arabs and non-Arabs must be taught in separate classes for three of those subjects
  • Arabic and Islamic Education teachers need appropriate KHDA approval
  • Support works the prescribed content; additional material needs MoE permission

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's requirements must be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April. These sit alongside IGCSE, not instead of it, and they appear on the report card. Families in LA Mer regularly budget carefully for maths and science support and then meet an Arabic grade they had not planned for.

The structure matters if you are buying support. KHDA requires separate classes by group: for Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, Arabic is the primary language for Social Studies for Arab students, and the school's licensed-curriculum language applies for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and in Moral, Social and Cultural studies.

Two further details shape what tutoring can usefully do. Schools must ensure all teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects, which is a credential a parent can actually ask about. And for the mandatory subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the MoE is strictly prohibited, so support here means working the prescribed material properly rather than importing a parallel course. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and it is advised that any mandatory subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes.

Starting, including what happens when we cannot help

  • Bring one marked paper to the first conversation; it saves two paid sessions
  • The free trial is one lesson per family and precedes any payment
  • Ask the tutor to name the syllabus code and tier before they teach
  • If no specialist is free, we say so and give a realistic match time

The useful first step is not a phone call, it is a marked paper. Find the most recent piece of assessed work your child has had returned with a mark on it and have it to hand. From that, a tutor can tell in one session whether the problem is content, method, timing or reading the question, and those four problems need four different plans at four different costs. Without it, the first two sessions are diagnosis you are paying full rate for.

Then the free trial lesson, which is one lesson per family and happens before any payment. Watch for three things rather than for rapport. Does the tutor ask what tier and which syllabus code before teaching anything? Does your child do most of the talking and writing? Does the session end with something specific that was not true at the start? A session that was pleasant and covered a lot is usually a session where the tutor did the work.

And the honest part. Some subject and level combinations have no UAE-based tutor free at the hour a LA Mer family wants. When that happens we say so rather than putting a general tutor in the slot, and we will tell you the realistic match time or offer a tutor in another time zone whose hours still fit a Gulf Standard Time evening. No competitor page in the researched set discloses a coverage limit, which is exactly why it is worth saying: a platform that never admits to being short of someone is a platform that quietly substitutes.

Where we tutor

Where on the Jumeirah coast we teach

LA Mer sits in a tight band of coastal communities between the Jumeirah Road and the water. Because lessons run online, the differences below matter for timing and school catchment rather than for tutor availability.

LA Mer

The Meraas beachfront development on Jumeirah 1, apartments and townhouses behind the retail strip. Short school runs to Al Safa and Al Wasl, but the Jumeirah Road is slow between 5pm and 7pm, which is why a 5:30pm online slot works and a 5:30pm visit often does not.

Jumeirah 1

The older villa streets inland from LA Mer, feeding Latifa School for Girls, Jumeirah College and Horizon English School. Plot sizes mean siblings often attend three different schools, so staggered one-to-one slots on the same evening are the common booking pattern here.

Jumeirah 2 and Jumeirah 3

Villa communities running south-west along the coast towards Umm Suqeim. Heavy British-curriculum enrolment and a strong Year 10 and 11 tutoring demand in maths and the separate sciences, usually two subjects per student rather than one.

Pearl Jumeira

The man-made island immediately off the Al Wasl shoreline, reached by causeway. Newer, lower-density housing with younger families, so Lower Secondary and early IGCSE support outnumbers exam-year work compared with Jumeirah 1.

City Walk

Apartment living a few minutes inland from LA Mer across Al Wasl. Compact homes mean a home visit occupies the dining table; a laptop in a bedroom with a door that closes is the practical advantage parents here mention first.

Al Wasl and Al Safa

The inland neighbours, holding Horizon International School Al Wasl, Safa British School and GEMS Wellington Primary School. This is where most LA Mer secondary students actually go to school, so the school calendar that governs a LA Mer tutoring plan is usually an Al Safa one.

Umm Suqeim and Al Manara

Further along the coast towards Burj Al Arab, feeding Raffles World Academy and the Al Barsha school cluster. Longer afternoon commutes push session start times later, typically 6:30pm or 7pm on weekdays.

Palm Jumeirah

Across the water but in the same demand pattern, with a mix of British and IB enrolment. Families here book the same Extended-tier maths and science support as LA Mer, and the trunk road commute is the reason online scheduling took hold earlier.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in LA Mer

Jumeirah 1, LA Mer and City Walk

The schools within a short drive of the LA Mer strip. British curriculum dominates, with two IB continuum schools in the same catchment, which is why families on this coast often hold an IGCSE decision and a Diploma decision at the same time.

  • Jumeirah College
  • Latifa School for Girls
  • Horizon English School
  • Jumeira Baccalaureate School
  • Emirates International School Jumeirah
  • JESS Jumeirah

Al Wasl, Al Safa and Umm Suqeim

The inland and coastal belt that absorbs most LA Mer secondary enrolment. Pickup times here run from 2:40pm to 3:30pm depending on school and year group, which sets the earliest realistic weekday session.

  • Horizon International School Al Wasl
  • Safa British School
  • GEMS Wellington Primary School
  • Raffles World Academy
  • Dubai College
  • Kings' School Al Barsha

Schools are named here as the educational context of this neighbourhood; IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the subject, the tier and the series

Cambridge 0580 Extended for the June series is a different request from Pearson 4MA1 for November, and the tier changes which tutor fits. Two lines of detail at this stage removes a wasted trial lesson and lets us check availability honestly before anyone books time.

  2. 02

    Send one marked paper

A recent assessment with a mark and ideally a teacher comment. This is the single most useful document a parent can supply, because it shows whether marks are being lost on content, method, timing or question interpretation. A report grade tells us far less.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

One lesson per family, before any payment is taken, at a time that fits after the Al Safa or Al Wasl school run. Sit nearby for the first ten minutes if you want to, then leave them to it. The point is to watch the teaching, not to be sold to.

  4. 04

Agree the plan and the price

Frequency, session length and the topics in order, with a stated end point rather than an open commitment. The quote comes after the trial so you are pricing a tutor you have seen rather than a description. Nothing on this page is a price list.

  5. 05

    Review at six sessions

Six sessions is enough to see movement on a named topic and not enough to have spent a term. Either the failure mode has closed and you continue, or it has not and we change the tutor or the plan. Families who skip this review are the families who overspend.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The travel premium is removed, not hidden

An in-home rate on Jumeirah 1 prices a 40-minute drive each way into every hour. Online delivery removes that cost from the invoice rather than absorbing it quietly, which is why the same tutor's online rate is routinely AED 80 to AED 150 lower for the identical teaching hour.

The tutor is chosen by syllabus, not by postcode

A tutor who has to reach LA Mer by 6pm must live nearby. Online, the shortlist is set by who teaches Cambridge 0620 at Extended tier or Pearson 4PH1, which is the variable that actually moves a grade. The radius stops being a constraint on quality.

Every figure is sourced and dated

The AED bands on this page are attributed to the competitor or rate table that published them, read in October 2026. We publish no satisfaction percentage, no average score and no star rating, because we cannot produce the underlying data for any of those and neither can the pages that do.

Delivery is stated plainly

IB Gram teaches UAE students online, one-to-one, and does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE. Home tutoring is an India-only service. You will not find a sentence on this site implying a tutor will arrive at a Jumeirah address, because that would not be true.

Coursework support stays inside the rules

Tutors teach the assessed skill, explain criteria and give feedback on the student's own drafts. They do not write or complete work. Given that one page competing for this search sells finished Internal Assessments, saying so explicitly is a differentiator rather than a disclaimer.

Availability limits are disclosed

When no UAE-based specialist is free for a niche subject at the hour you need, we say so and give a realistic match time or an alternative time zone that still fits a Gulf Standard Time evening. Substituting a generalist into a specialist slot is how families lose a term.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in LA Mer: your questions answered

How much should I expect to pay an IGCSE home tutor in LA Mer?+

Published Dubai market rates put an in-home one-to-one visit at roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour including travel, with Bestimate's rate table giving 180 to 350 and independent home tutors quoting 200 to 500. The same qualified tutor working online sits in a AED 150 to AED 300 band, and specialist exam-year support runs AED 200 to AED 450 or more. Those are market figures from sources read in October 2026, not IB Gram prices. For a Jumeirah 1 address, a meaningful share of the in-home premium is the evening drive rather than the teaching.

Does IB Gram send a tutor to a LA Mer apartment?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Lessons for LA Mer families are delivered one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, with a shared whiteboard both tutor and student can write on. We target the home-tutor search because that is the phrase parents type, and we answer it honestly rather than implying a car will arrive. The trade is a tutor chosen for your child's syllabus instead of one chosen for living within a drivable radius of the beachfront.

Is paying more per hour actually worth it for Year 11?+

For an exam-year student, usually yes, but not for the reason families expect. The gain is not a better personality or more homework help; it is someone who has worked the specific paper your child sits and knows where its marks hide. Twenty-one hours with a specialist at AED 280 commonly moves a grade that thirty-three hours with a generalist at AED 180 does not, despite costing the same. For Years 7 to 9 the inversion runs the other way and a lower tier is genuinely sufficient, which is the cheapest time to buy support.

Which IGCSE series does a LA Mer student sit, and does the March window apply?+

Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level exams in a June series and a November series, and UAE candidates sit those two. The February and March series is offered to India only, so any advice pointing a Dubai family at a March window is wrong for this country. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states it is essential to use the correct timetable version for your zone, so confirm both series and zone with your school's exams officer.

Do private tutors in the UAE need a permit, and does it cost them anything?+

They need one, and it is free. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone quoting you a permit fee is describing something that does not exist. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule has been published, so no amount should be quoted to you.

What is the difference in cost between Core and Extended support?+

Very little per hour, and a great deal in total. The hourly market rate barely moves between tiers, but Extended covers more content and is examined on harder papers, so it needs more hours across the year. The expensive error is the other way round: paying specialist rates to chase a grade 7 while a child sits Cambridge 0580 Core, which caps at grade 5. Ask the school which tier your child is entered for before you buy anything. That one question has saved families an entire term's spend.

Where exactly does a paid tutor have to stop on an IGCSE coursework component?+

Yes, within a clear boundary. A tutor may teach the skills the component assesses, explain the criteria, read a draft the student has written and say where it misses the criterion, model technique on a different example, and coach planning around the deadline. A tutor may not write, complete or rewrite any part of work that must be the student's own. One site competing for this search sells completed Internal Assessments; that is malpractice and the consequence falls on the student. IB Gram tutors teach, review and give feedback only.

How many sessions a week do LA Mer families usually start with?+

One session a week per subject is the common starting point, moving to two in the eight to twelve weeks before a series. Families who start at three or four sessions a week across several subjects almost always overspend, because at that volume tutoring stops supplementing school and starts duplicating it. We also suggest a review at six sessions: enough to see whether a named failure mode has closed, not enough to have committed a term's budget to a plan that is not working.

Are Arabic and Islamic Education counted towards UAE equivalency?+

No. For the British track, Ministry of Education equivalency requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic education are not included among those five. A ranking UAE tutoring site states six subjects are needed; the sourced requirement is five. Students must also show one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Verify current requirements with the Ministry rather than relying on any tutoring page, including this one.

What time can lessons start after the school run from Al Safa?+

Pickup for the schools most LA Mer secondary students attend runs between about 2:40pm and 3:30pm, so a 4pm or 4:30pm online session is realistic on a weekday and a 6pm one is comfortable. That earlier window is one of the practical differences from a home visit, where the tutor's own drive across Dubai usually pushes the earliest slot to 6pm. Families with children at different schools often stagger two one-to-one sessions across the same evening, which is straightforward online and difficult with a visiting tutor.

Do you teach both Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE?+

Yes, and the distinction matters more than parents expect. Cambridge uses four-digit syllabus codes such as 0580 Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry and 0610 Biology, with Core and Extended tiering in several subjects. Pearson uses codes such as 4MA1 and 4PH1 and structures some qualifications differently. A tutor who teaches one board and assumes the other will prepare your child for a paper they are not sitting. Ask your school which board each subject is entered with; it is not always the same board across subjects.

Who regulates the school my child attends in Jumeirah?+

Dubai private schools are regulated by KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain fall under ADEK, Sharjah under the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah under its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah under the federal Ministry of Education. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or partnership from KHDA or any other regulator, and names them here only to explain who does what.

Is there any discount for tutoring two children in the same household?+

Household arrangements are discussed at the consultation rather than priced on a page, because the honest answer depends on whether the two children need the same subject at the same level. Two siblings in Year 10 taking Cambridge 0580 can sometimes share a session productively. A Year 8 student and a Year 11 Extended candidate cannot, and putting them together saves money while wasting both hours. Online scheduling does make back-to-back one-to-one slots on the same evening straightforward, which is usually the more useful economy.

What happens if no specialist tutor is free for the subject we need?+

We tell you, which no competitor page in the researched set does. For a niche subject or an unusual hour, a UAE-based specialist may genuinely not be available, and the options are a realistic match time, a tutor in another time zone whose working hours still land in a Gulf Standard Time evening, or a recommendation to wait. What we will not do is put a generalist into a specialist slot and let you discover the gap in March. That substitution is how a family loses both the money and the term.

Should we wait for school mocks before booking a tutor?+

Usually no, because mocks arrive too late to be a starting gun. The most productive tutoring block runs eight to twelve weeks before the mock window, so the mock measures a student who has already fixed something rather than confirming a problem everybody knew about. If the mocks have already happened, the marked paper becomes the most valuable document you own: bring it, and the first session can be diagnosis-free and get straight to the two or three topics that are costing marks.

What to do next if you are pricing IGCSE support in LA Mer

Find the most recent marked paper, check with the school which board, syllabus code and tier your child is entered for, and confirm whether they are sitting the June or the November series. Those three facts turn a vague search for an IGCSE home tutor in LA Mer into a specific request a specialist can answer. Then take the free trial lesson, one per family and before any payment, and watch whether the tutor asks about the tier before teaching. If they do not, keep looking. If no specialist is free at your hour, we will say so rather than filling the slot.
