IGCSE Classes in the UAE: What They Cost and What the Money Buys

IGCSE classes in the UAE are sold at almost every price point, from roughly AED 33 an hour in a shared online room to AED 650 for a named specialist, and almost nobody explains the gap. This page does. It sets out the market bands in AED by class format, the six things that genuinely move an hourly figure, and what a Year 10 and Year 11 plan across nine subjects actually costs a family. IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, starting with a free trial lesson.

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

The price of an IGCSE class is not one number, and the spread is the story

Ask five providers what IGCSE classes in the UAE cost and you will get five answers that differ by a factor of twenty. Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 an hour. EdFlik starts at AED 45. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150. TutorChase quotes around AED 270. BartyED lists AED 650. Every one of those figures is real, and every one of them is for something different. The hour is the same length in all five cases; what changes is how many other children are in the room, who is teaching, how much of the fee pays for a car journey, and whether the person on the other side of the screen has taught your child's exact syllabus code this series or something adjacent to it.

That is the whole problem with the way this market prices itself. Three of the six highest-ranking providers in this cluster publish no price at all, and two of the three that do quote in US dollars, a currency no UAE family transacts in. The parent is left comparing an hourly rate against a monthly package against a per-session fee, with no way to normalise them. So this page normalises them. Every band below is given in AED per hour, attributed to the provider or rate survey that published it, with the format and the class size that the figure assumes stated beside it.

The second half of the question matters more than the first. A rate is only meaningful against what the hour delivers, and the single biggest variable is how many minutes of a teacher's attention your child actually receives. In a school class of twenty-four, a fifty-minute lesson gives each student rather less than three minutes of individual attention, which is why a child who has fallen behind on moles or on circuit calculations rarely recovers inside the timetable. A group class of eight at AED 60 an hour sounds cheap until you divide it. A one-to-one class at AED 220 is twenty times the attention for roughly four times the price.

Timing moves the number as reliably as format does, and it moves availability first. Cambridge sets its final entry deadline months before the paper: for the March 2027 series, entries close on 27 November 2026 for an exam period running 3 February to 4 March 2027, with forecast grades due 27 February and results on Direct on 13 May. Pearson Edexcel runs International GCSE in May/June and November, with the November 2026 timetable finishing on 19 November 2026. A family that starts looking for classes six weeks before a paper is shopping in the thinnest part of the market, and pays for that.

What follows is organised the way a budget is organised, not the way a brochure is. Formats and their market rates first. Then the drivers that move a quote up or down, with a way to check each one. Then a whole-year plan at three budget levels. Then the line items nobody puts in a quote: entry costs, private candidacy, remarks, retakes, and the mandatory Ministry subjects that are already inside your school fee. IB Gram delivers all of this as one-to-one online classes over live video; home visits are something we offer in India, not in this market, and the comparison table makes the case for the online format on its merits rather than by omission.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four qualification routes sit behind the phrase IGCSE classes in the UAE, and each carries its own price behaviour. The board decides the paper structure, the tier decides the grade ceiling, and the year group decides how much of the bill is prevention and how much is repair.

Cambridge International IGCSE

Cambridge syllabuses carry four-digit codes that appear on the school report and on every past paper: 0580 Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry, 0610 Biology, 0500 First Language English. Most subjects are tiered into Core and Extended, and the tier is fixed on the entry form rather than in the classroom. Cambridge examines IGCSE in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Classes priced for a Cambridge cohort are priced against those codes and those papers.

Cambridge allocates every exam centre worldwide to one of six administrative zones, and its exams officers' guide states that using the correct version of the timetable for your zone is essential, since Cambridge cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss a paper after using the wrong one. For a UAE family that detail is a cost item: a class block built against the wrong zone timetable buys revision in the wrong order.

4XX1Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Pearson codes read 4MA1 Mathematics A, 4PH1 Physics, 4CH1 Chemistry, 4BI1 Biology, 4EA1 English Language A. The structure differs from Cambridge in ways that change how many hours a subject needs: Mathematics A is tiered Foundation and Higher rather than Core and Extended, several science papers sit in a different split, and a modular route is available on some specifications. Pearson examines International GCSE in May/June and November each year.

Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, including International GCSE November 2027, and revises them, which is why a class plan should be pegged to the live official timetable rather than to a date copied off a tutoring site. The November 2026 final timetable ran to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

LSAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Lower Secondary, Years 7 to 9

The three years before the IGCSE course are where the cheapest hours in the whole plan sit. A Year 8 student who cannot rearrange a formula, balance an equation or write a paragraph with evidence in it will need the same gap closed later at Extended-tier prices and under an entry deadline. Lower Secondary classes are usually bought one subject at a time, often fortnightly, and the market charges its lower bands for them because the content is not yet examined externally.

UAE families move schools and curricula more often than most, and Years 7 to 9 are where a CBSE, American or MYP background either converts cleanly into an IGCSE course or does not. The questions worth paying someone to answer at this stage are narrow: which board the school enters, whether the maths route leads to Extended, and which of the three mandatory Ministry subjects the child will sit in Arabic rather than in English.

16+Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

After Year 11: AS, A Level and the IB Diploma

What comes next sets how much an IGCSE grade is worth in cash terms. A school that requires grade 7 or A for Extended-tier entry into AS Chemistry turns a 6 into a resit or a route change, and a route change made in September of Year 12 costs more to support than the ten hours that would have prevented it. Families planning for the Diploma face the same arithmetic in the maths route, where the IGCSE ceiling shapes whether Analysis and Approaches is realistic.

The Ministry of Education's British-track equivalency rules reach backwards into this decision. Students must show one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade no lower than E, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, alongside five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than E or grade 3. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. Verify the current wording on moe.gov.ae before building a plan around it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Scarcity, not difficulty, is what prices a subject. A syllabus that most tutors have taught sits in the middle of the market; one that few have examined recently sits at the top of it, and the top of the market is also where availability runs out first before a series.

Mathematics (0580 / 4MA1)

Core and Extended · Foundation and Higher

The most heavily taught IGCSE subject in the UAE and therefore the one with the widest choice of classes at every rate band. Marks are lost on non-calculator arithmetic, on bearings and vectors, and on multi-step problems where the method mark is available but the working is not shown. Expect mid-market rates and a genuine choice of tutors, including at short notice.

Additional Mathematics (0606)

Single tier

Taken alongside Extended Mathematics by stronger cohorts, usually in schools pointing students at Analysis and Approaches or A Level Mathematics. Far fewer tutors have taught the calculus and trigonometric identity content recently, so this is one of the first subjects where a family meets upper-band pricing and a wait for a slot rather than a choice of slots.

Physics (0625 / 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Electricity, moments and the practical paper are where the marks go. Students who can recite a definition and still cannot rearrange and substitute lose most of their marks in calculation questions, not in recall. Classes bought for Physics are usually bought for the alternative-to-practical or practical component as much as for the theory, and that changes how the hours should be spent.

Chemistry (0620 / 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Moles, electrolysis and organic chemistry account for most of the lost Extended-tier marks. The subject punishes a student who has memorised equations without understanding which species are actually present in solution. Chemistry sits at mid to upper market rates because the practical and data-handling components need a tutor who has marked that specific paper style.

Biology (0610 / 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Marks are lost in extended-response questions that require a named process in the right order, and in data questions where students describe a graph instead of explaining it. Biology is widely taught and widely tutored, so it prices in the middle band; the cost risk is buying content revision when the real gap is command-term discipline.

English Language (0500 / 4EA1)

First Language

Directed writing and the summary question carry the marks that move a grade, and both are coachable in a small number of hours because they are formats before they are talents. Students in the UAE often sit First Language English alongside Arabic as a first or additional language, which affects how much reading and writing load a single week can carry.

English as a Second Language (0510 / 0511)

Core and Extended

A different qualification from First Language English with a different mark scheme, and the entry decision between them is made by the school rather than by the student. Classes are cheaper than First Language classes at the same level of experience, but a student entered for the wrong one of the two has a capped grade that no number of hours will lift.

Economics and Business Studies (0455 / 0450)

Single tier

Both subjects reward a student who can apply a definition to a named context and lose marks when answers stay generic. Case-study papers are the expensive part to fix late, because the skill is built over a term rather than in a revision week. Mid-band rates, with reasonable availability outside the eight weeks before a series.

Computer Science (0478)

Single tier

Pseudocode, trace tables and the problem-solving paper are where marks go, and the subject attracts fewer experienced IGCSE tutors than the sciences because many candidates come from a programming rather than an examining background. Expect upper-band pricing and a narrower choice of times, especially for Paper 2.

Arabic as a First or Additional Language

First and additional language routes

Dubai private schools must teach Arabic regardless of their licensed curriculum, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Families often pay for extra Arabic without checking which of the two routes their child is actually on, which is the most common wasted spend in this list.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy IGCSE classes, each with a different cost shape. All three are delivered one-to-one over live video, and the right one depends less on budget than on what the hour is being asked to fix.

One subject, one class a week

The default, and the cheapest plan that reliably changes a grade. One sixty-minute online class a week on a single subject, with work set between sessions so the hour is spent diagnosing and teaching rather than reading. Bestimate's monthly estimate for a weekly one-hour session runs AED 240-600 at the budget end and AED 600-1,200 mid-market. The limitation is obvious: one subject.

  • Billed per session or as a monthly block of four
  • Suits a single diagnosed weakness rather than a general slide
  • Set work between classes is what makes the rate worth paying
  • Easiest plan to pause and restart around a school holiday

Two subjects across a split week

Two classes a week on different subjects, often sciences paired with maths because the calculation skills overlap. Market monthly estimates roughly double, to AED 1,200-2,400 at mid-market rates. The saving is in continuity rather than in the rate: one tutor covering both subjects sees the same error twice and only has to diagnose it once, which is why asking whether a single tutor can cover the pair is a cost question.

  • Ask whether one tutor can cover both subjects before splitting them
  • Pair subjects that share a paper style or a calculation habit
  • Expect a review after six weeks, not after a term
  • Fewer total hours than two separate single-subject plans usually need

Pre-series intensive block

A fixed block of classes in the eight to twelve weeks before a series, priced as a block rather than by the hour in most of the market. Hours are counted in papers rather than in topics: a student sitting four written papers and one practical gets a plan built around those five documents. This is the most expensive format per taught minute, because it is bought in the thinnest part of the market.

  • Book the slot before the discount; availability narrows before price moves
  • Plan against the correct zone timetable for the centre
  • Full past papers under timed conditions, marked against the real scheme
  • Decide the Core or Extended question before the entry closes, not after

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What an IGCSE class actually is, and why one hour carries six prices

An IGCSE class in the UAE costs between roughly AED 33 and AED 650 an hour as of October 2026, and the variable that explains most of the spread is not tutor quality. It is how many other children are in the room. Every figure in the table below was published by the provider named beside it, and every one assumes a different class size, a different delivery format and a different amount of travel baked into the rate. Comparing them without those three columns is how families end up paying upper-band money for lower-band attention.

The attention column is the one nobody publishes. A school lesson of fifty minutes with twenty-four students in it divides into rather less than three minutes each, and that is the arithmetic behind most requests for extra classes: not a failing teacher, simply a timetable that cannot pause for one child's gap in moles or in vector notation. A group class of eight at AED 60 an hour gives roughly seven or eight minutes each, which is enough for drill and past-paper routine and not enough to diagnose why a method keeps breaking. One-to-one gives sixty minutes of sixty.

Read the table as a menu rather than a ranking. A student who needs volume of practice and a weekly deadline is well served by a group class and badly served by paying four times as much for the same drill. A student who has sat two mocks at Extended tier and lost the same marks in the same way both times needs the diagnosis, and that is a one-to-one job. The format question comes before the rate question, and getting it in that order is worth more than any discount in this market.

The six things that move an IGCSE hourly rate, and how to check each one

A quote is not a fixed property of a tutor. It moves with six identifiable things, and five of them are visible to a parent before any money changes hands. Knowing which one is pushing a particular number up is the difference between negotiating and guessing. It is also the difference between paying a premium that buys something and paying a premium that buys scarcity you created yourself by starting late.

The driver that costs families most is the one that looks like nothing: board mismatch. A tutor who has taught Cambridge 0580 for years and is handed a Pearson 4MA1 student is not incompetent, but the tiering is different, the paper split is different and the first few classes go on reconciliation rather than teaching. The syllabus code is printed on the mock paper and usually on the school report. Reading it takes a minute and saves a term. One competitor page in this market gets the UAE subject count wrong in print, which is a reminder that confident publishing and accuracy are different things.

Proximity to the series behaves differently from the other five, because availability contracts before price rises. From roughly eight weeks out, the specialist slots at 5pm and 6pm Gulf Standard Time go first, and what remains is late evening or a less specialised tutor at the same rate. Families reading this in September for a June series are in the cheap part of the year and will not believe it until February. The honest version is that the discount for booking early is small and the difference in who is still free is large.

Pricing two whole IGCSE years against nine subjects

Most UAE students sit eight to ten IGCSE subjects, and no family buys classes in all of them. The useful planning question is not what one hour costs but how a fixed monthly figure should be divided across two academic years. The three plans below are built from Bestimate's published monthly estimates for the Dubai market: AED 240-600 at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support, each assuming a weekly one-hour session.

The pattern that works is front-loaded and narrow. Spending in Year 10 is cheaper per unit of effect than spending in Year 11, because in Year 10 the gap is still small, the tier decision has not been submitted and there is no deadline distorting availability. Two subjects taught properly from October of Year 10 will usually cost less across two years than five subjects rescued from February of Year 11, and the second version carries a grade risk the first does not.

The plans also differ in what they cannot do, which is the column families should read first. A budget group plan cannot diagnose; it can only drill. A two-subject plan cannot cover a coursework portfolio and a practical component in the same term. An exam-year intensive cannot build a skill that takes a term to form, such as applying economics definitions to an unseen case. Every plan has a boundary, and a provider who will not name it is selling something other than teaching.

Tuition beside the school fee, in the year Dubai held fees flat

Tutoring is a second education bill arriving on top of a first, and the first one stopped growing in Dubai this year. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there will be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. That is the right anchor for a tuition conversation, because it tells a Dubai family that the household education line is stable and any growth in it this year is a choice they are making.

It also sets expectations about who controls a price. School fees are approved by the emirate authority, not set freely by the school: in Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah the regulators approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Private tuition carries none of that oversight. There is no approved rate card for IGCSE classes anywhere in the country, which is exactly why the spread runs from AED 33 to AED 650 and why the burden of comparison sits with the parent.

The table puts the items side by side in the units they actually arrive in. Note that two of the rows are not hourly at all. Coursework and pre-series support are commonly sold as blocks, and a monthly package seen widely in this market is AED 799 for eight online sessions, with in-home monthly packages at AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour visits. Converting every line to a per-hour figure before comparing is the only way those numbers mean anything together.

A group class, a visiting tutor, or live online: the same subject priced three ways

Parents searching for IGCSE classes in the UAE are usually choosing between three delivery models without a straight comparison of what each one costs per taught minute. Here it is. A visiting tutor's published band of AED 180-500 includes a car journey across a city with some of the worst 4pm to 7pm traffic in the region, and that journey is why in-home quotes carry minimum session lengths of two hours in most of the market. An online class of the same length with the same tutor removes the journey from both sides of the transaction.

IB Gram's position is plain: classes are delivered one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. Home visits are part of what we offer in India and are not part of what we offer in this market. That is stated here rather than buried, because the alternative is to let a parent discover it after a deposit. The case for the online format is not that it is a substitute; it is that it changes which tutor is reachable. A family in Fujairah or Umm Al Quwain can be taught 0620 Chemistry at Extended tier by somebody who marked that paper style last series, instead of by whoever lives within a thirty-minute drive.

The honest limitation of online delivery is the practical component, and it deserves naming in a cost discussion. A video class cannot put a child in front of a Bunsen burner. It can prepare the alternative-to-practical paper thoroughly, rehearse apparatus diagrams, teach measurement and uncertainty, and walk through the mark scheme of a required practical the school has already run. For the practical itself, the school laboratory is where the learning happens, and no tutoring spend changes that.

Core or Extended: the tier decision that sets both the ceiling and the bill

Most Cambridge IGCSE subjects are tiered, and the tier goes on the entry form. For the March 2027 series that form closes on 27 November 2026, which means the decision is made in the autumn term and not in the spring when the mocks make it obvious. Pearson tiers Mathematics A as Foundation and Higher on the same principle. The decision changes the grade ceiling, the content taught, and the number of classes a student needs to reach the grade their next step requires.

The money consequence runs in both directions. Entering Extended tier when the student is not ready means buying hours to chase content the grade will not reward, and risking a low grade where a secure Core grade was available. Entering Core when the student could have managed Extended caps the grade below the entry requirement for AS or for the Diploma, and the cost of that appears a year later as a resit, a route change, or a university application built on a weaker profile. Neither error is recoverable with money after the deadline.

The table sets out what a family is actually choosing between. The row to weigh most carefully is the last one, because the honest input to a tier decision is not ambition but evidence: two mock papers at the tier in question, marked against the real scheme, with the marks broken down by question type. That is a defensible reason to buy a small number of classes in October of Year 11 rather than a large number in March.

Five ways a UAE family overpays for IGCSE classes

  • Buying content classes when the lost marks are a command-term or working problem
  • Paying for Arabic or Islamic Education support without checking which route the child sits
  • Starting eight weeks before a series and paying scarcity pricing for the leftover slots
  • Booking a tutor on the wrong board, then spending the first classes reconciling two syllabuses
  • Buying a general tutor for a scarce syllabus such as 0606 or 0478, then buying a specialist anyway

Waste in a tutoring budget rarely looks like an inflated rate. It looks like the right rate spent on the wrong thing, and it is remarkably consistent across families. The five patterns below came out of looking at how this market sells and how parents describe their own spending in the question banks behind these pages. None of them is about being careless with money; all of them are about buying before diagnosing.

The most expensive of the five is buying content when the gap is technique. A student who understands moles and still drops eleven marks across two papers is not short of chemistry. They are answering an explain question as though it were a describe question, or losing method marks by not writing working. Three classes spent on command terms and on mark-scheme discipline move more marks than a term of re-teaching topics the student already half knows, and they cost a fraction as much.

The second most expensive is paying twice for something the school fee already covers. Dubai private schools are required to teach Arabic, Islamic Education and Social and Moral Studies regardless of their licensed international curriculum, with the requirements to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Families who buy Arabic classes without first asking which route their child is on, first language or additional language, frequently buy the wrong one. KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ, so the two routes are not interchangeable.

The line items nobody puts in a tuition quote

A tuition quote covers teaching. It does not cover the administrative costs that arrive around an IGCSE series, and those are the ones that surprise families, particularly families whose child sits a paper as a private candidate rather than through their own school. Amounts here are deliberately not published: entry charges are set by the centre and the board and change between series, so the only reliable figure is the one the school's exams officer gives you in writing for your series.

Private candidate entry is the item worth understanding earliest. A student who has moved schools mid-course, who is sitting a subject their school does not offer, or who is retaking a single paper may need to enter through a centre that accepts external candidates. That carries a centre administration charge on top of the board's entry charge, a separate deadline, and a requirement to sit the paper wherever the centre is, which for a family in Umm Al Quwain or Fujairah may mean travel on the morning of the exam.

Remarks, enquiries about results and retakes sit at the other end of the series. Each has a deadline measured in days or weeks after results, each carries a charge set by the board, and the decision has to be made quickly and with information the family usually does not have. Asking the exams officer for the window dates before results day, rather than after, is free and converts a panicked fortnight into a planned one.

What no amount of money may buy: coursework, practicals and the honesty line

There is a market in the Gulf for assessed work sold as a finished product. One operator in this search cluster lists completed IB Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. Treat any version of that offer as a transaction that buys a malpractice investigation rather than a grade. The student whose name is on the work is the person who faces the consequence, and the consequence reaches the whole qualification, not the single component. No saving and no deadline justifies it.

The legitimate version of coursework support is narrower and genuinely useful, and it is worth paying for. A tutor may teach the skills the task assesses, explain the assessment criteria and how marks are allocated across them, discuss a planned approach before work begins, read a draft the student has written and give feedback in general terms, model the method on a different example, and teach referencing properly. What a tutor may not do is produce any part of the assessed piece, supply text for it, or rewrite a passage so the submitted wording is somebody else's. That boundary is the same whether a family pays AED 60 an hour or AED 650.

Practical work carries the same logic in a different form. Required practicals must be carried out by the student in a school laboratory, and a video class cannot stand in for that. Where paid classes genuinely earn their rate is in the paper that examines practical skills: apparatus diagrams, measurement and uncertainty, identifying the controlled variable, reading a mark scheme for an experimental write-up. A provider who will not draw this line in writing before taking money is telling you something about everything else they sell.

Already paid for: the three Ministry subjects inside the school week

Every IGCSE student in a UAE private school carries subjects that are not IGCSE subjects. Federal rules require private schools to follow Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies alongside their licensed curriculum, and in Dubai KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social and Moral Studies in all private schools regardless of curriculum, with those requirements to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April. These subjects compete for the same Year 10 and Year 11 week as nine IGCSE courses, which is a scheduling cost before it is a money one.

The structural detail that matters to a family's budget is the separation rule. KHDA states that for Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, and Arabic is the primary language for Social Studies for Arab students, while non-Arabs study Islamic Education and Moral, Social and Cultural studies in the language of the school's licensed curriculum.

Two consequences follow for anybody buying classes. First, support bought for the wrong route teaches the wrong syllabus in the wrong language, which is the clearest example of wasted spend in this whole page. Second, the content itself is constrained: for the mandatory subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited. KHDA also requires schools to ensure teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold the appropriate approval from KHDA to teach them, and the instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit, with any mandatory subject lesson advised to run at least twenty-five minutes.

11

Equivalency, the five-subject rule, and what finding out late costs

An IGCSE certificate has a second audience beyond the school: the Ministry of Education, when a student applies to a UAE university or needs a secondary certificate recognised locally. On the British track, students must submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, and must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among those five required subjects.

That exclusion is where money gets lost. A student who treats Arabic as one of the five counted subjects may reach the end of Year 11 with four qualifying grades rather than five, and the repair is a later entry in a subject nobody planned for, at a later series, with classes bought under deadline. The count is worth checking in Year 9, before option blocks are chosen, and it is worth checking against the Ministry's own page rather than against a tutoring site. One competitor that ranks for these searches states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects; the sourced rule is five.

Two cautions belong with this. The equivalency process is run by the Ministry of Education and the emirate attestation authorities, not by any tutoring provider, and nobody should charge a family to perform it. And no IB points threshold for equivalency should be taken from a tutoring page at all, including this one: the British-track figures above come from a published report of the Ministry's clarification, the IB figure does not exist in that source, and the only place to confirm any of it is moe.gov.ae or the attestation authority directly.

Where we tutor

Where you live changes the price of a class, mostly through travel

Delivery is online everywhere in this list, so distance does not enter an IB Gram schedule. It enters the market price, because a visiting tutor's rate carries the journey and because the depth of the local tutor pool differs sharply between the seven emirates.

Dubai

227 private schools and 387,441 students in 2024-25, with the UK curriculum on 37 per cent of the roll. The deepest tutor pool in the country, which keeps mid-band rates competitive, and the heaviest traffic, which is why a visiting tutor's quote and an online quote diverge most here.

Abu Dhabi

Regulated by ADEK, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. A smaller IGCSE tutor pool than Dubai at the specialist end, so Additional Mathematics and Computer Science classes are where families most often hit a wait rather than a price.

Al Ain

Also under ADEK, with a school network spread far enough apart that a visiting tutor covering two students in an evening is unusual. The practical effect on price is a higher minimum session length on in-home quotes, often two hours, which raises the real cost per taught minute.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in the emirate, and its remit includes approving tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Families commuting into Dubai schools from Sharjah lose the 4pm slot entirely, which pushes demand into the 7pm to 9pm window.

Ajman

Supervised by the federal Ministry of Education rather than an emirate authority. A thin local market for Extended-tier sciences means an online class is frequently the only way to reach a tutor who has taught 0620 or 4CH1 in the current series rather than several years ago.

Ras Al Khaimah

The Department of Knowledge regulates private education here and, like Sharjah, approves fees, curricula and assessment methods. Named by none of the researched competitors, which tells you how little of this market is served locally. Travel-inclusive rates are the highest relative to teaching value anywhere in the country.

Fujairah

Ministry of Education territory, on the other side of the Hajar mountains from the main school clusters. A visiting tutor is rarely a realistic line item at any price, so the comparison for a Fujairah family is between an online class and no class, not between online and in-home.

Umm Al Quwain

The smallest private-school market in the country and also under the federal Ministry of Education. Families here routinely enter children at a centre in another emirate, which adds a travel cost to the exam itself and makes the entry deadline a logistics date as well as an administrative one.

Dubai

Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 places; six opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose by 6 per cent. A growing UK-curriculum roll is the reason IGCSE class demand in Dubai peaks twice a year rather than once.

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

ADEK licenses and accredits these schools, and its professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff bar teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school. Families who assume they can simply hire the class teacher privately find the price of that shortcut is that it is not available.

SPEA in Sharjah, the Department of Knowledge in Ras Al Khaimah and the federal Ministry of Education in Ajman, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain. Specialist IGCSE classes are scarce enough locally that an online slot is usually cheaper than the nearest in-home alternative rather than merely more convenient.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the code, not just the subject

Send the syllabus code from the school report or mock paper, the tier, the series your child is entered for and the centre. That is four facts, and they decide which tutors are a real match and which quote is comparing like with like. Guessing the board is the single most expensive assumption in this market.

  2. 02

Take the free trial class before paying for anything

One class, no charge, with the tutor who would teach the block. Treat it as a diagnostic rather than an audition: by the end you should have a named weakness, the papers it affects and an estimate of hours. If the tutor cannot name the gap in sixty minutes, that is useful information too.

  3. 03

Agree the format, the hours and the rate in writing

A written note before payment should state the rate per class, the class length, how many classes, the cancellation terms, what happens to unused sessions, and whether any figure quoted includes VAT. Quoted figures on this page are market rates published by other providers, not an IB Gram price list.

  4. 04

Review at six weeks against marks, not against feelings

Bring the most recent marked paper and compare it with the one from six weeks earlier, question type by question type. Classes that are working show up as marks recovered in a named category. Classes that are not should be stopped or redirected rather than renewed out of politeness.

  5. 05

Hear it plainly when nobody suitable is free

Some syllabuses have a thin pool, particularly Additional Mathematics, Computer Science and minority languages close to a series. If no specialist in that exact code is available at a workable Gulf Standard Time slot, we say so and give the realistic wait rather than filling the slot with a general tutor at a specialist rate.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Rates are published with the source attached

Every AED figure on this page names the provider or rate survey that published it, with the month it was read. Three of the highest-ranking pages for these searches publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars. A figure you can trace is a figure you can argue with.

The format question is answered before the rate question

A group class, a small group and a one-to-one class solve different problems, and the cheapest adequate format is the right one. We will say when drill in a group is enough, because selling a one-to-one hour for work that a worksheet and a deadline would fix is how trust is lost.

One-to-one over live video, stated up front

Classes are taught one-to-one over live video and scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. Home visits are part of our service in India and not in the UAE. Saying that before a deposit, rather than after, is the minimum a family is owed by anybody taking money for teaching.

A national pool rather than a local one

Online delivery changes which tutor is reachable from Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah or Umm Al Quwain. A family outside the main school clusters gets a tutor who has taught their exact syllabus code recently rather than the nearest available generalist, and pays a published online band instead of a travel-inclusive one.

The coursework boundary is in writing

A tutor teaches the skill, explains the criteria and the mark allocation, and gives feedback on work the student wrote. A tutor does not supply assessed text. Where a competing offer in this market sells finished Internal Assessments for AED 3,750, saying this explicitly is the differentiator.

No approval we do not hold, and no numbers we cannot source

IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform. We hold no accreditation or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and we do not publish a statistic without saying where it came from and when it was read.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

Why does the same IGCSE subject cost AED 45 in one class and AED 650 in another?+

Because the two prices are for different products. The AED 45 figure, which EdFlik advertises from, usually assumes a group room with several other children and a university-student tutor. The AED 650 figure, listed by BartyED, buys a named specialist one-to-one. Between them sit Unitors from AED 150 for IGCSE, TutorChase at around AED 270, and visiting tutors at AED 180-500 with travel inside the rate. Class size, tutor experience in your exact syllabus code, and how much of the fee pays for a car journey explain most of the spread. Compare the format first; the rate only means something once the format is fixed.

How many children can a group class hold before the saving stops being worth it?+

Around four. In a group of four, a sixty-minute class gives each child roughly fifteen minutes of direct attention, which is enough to spot a recurring error and correct it. At eight, that falls to seven or eight minutes, which supports drill and past-paper routine but not diagnosis. At twenty-plus, which is a school class, it is under three minutes and the format cannot pause for one student's gap. Group classes are good value for volume of practice and a weekly deadline. They are poor value when the problem is a method that keeps breaking in the same place, because nobody has time to watch it break.

We have AED 1,500 a month for classes. How should that be spent?+

At Bestimate's mid-market monthly estimate of AED 600-1,200 for a weekly one-hour session, that budget buys one subject taught properly one-to-one with room left over, or two subjects at the lower end of the band. Spend it on the weakest subject rather than spreading it across three, and start in Year 10 rather than Year 11, where the same money buys more because the gap is smaller and no entry deadline is distorting availability. Keep a reserve of two or three hours for a marked mock review before the tier decision. One subject moved two grades is worth more than three subjects nudged.

Which IGCSE subjects are hardest to buy a specialist for?+

Additional Mathematics 0606, Computer Science 0478 and minority languages are consistently the thinnest. Many candidates for those subjects come from a professional rather than an examining background, so the number of tutors who have taught that exact code to Year 11 in a recent series is small. The practical effect is not mainly price; it is availability. Close to a series, the specialist slots at 5pm and 6pm Gulf Standard Time are taken first, and what remains is a late-evening slot or a generalist at a specialist rate. For these codes, book months out rather than weeks out.

Does Extended-tier teaching cost more per hour than Core?+

Usually by around AED 30-80 an hour in this market, and the reason is content rather than status. Extended covers the core material plus the supplement, which is where most of the additional classes go, and the paper combination sets harder question styles that need more marked full papers under timed conditions. The more important cost is the tier decision itself. Cambridge fixes the tier on the entry form, which for the March 2027 series closes on 27 November 2026, so the choice is made in the autumn. Two mock papers marked against the real scheme are a cheaper input to that decision than either wrong answer.

Our daughter sits nine IGCSEs. Does she need classes in all of them?+

No, and buying nine would be the clearest waste on this page. Most families fund one or two subjects well rather than many thinly. Pick the subjects where the grade she needs for the next step is genuinely at risk, and where the gap is diagnosable: a method that fails repeatedly, a paper she runs out of time on, a component she has never been taught to answer. Subjects where she is a grade below ambition but secure on content rarely repay weekly classes. A single marked-paper review across several subjects is often a better first purchase than a term of lessons in one.

What should we have in writing before paying for a block of classes?+

Six things: the rate per class and whether it includes VAT, the length of a class, how many classes the payment covers, the cancellation and rescheduling terms, what happens to sessions you do not use, and the named syllabus code and tier being taught. Add one more for coursework subjects: a plain statement of what the tutor will and will not do with assessed work. Any provider who will not put those in a message before taking money is asking you to rely on memory, and in a market where rates range from AED 33 to AED 650 an hour, memory is not enough.

Does an IGCSE entry carry a cost separate from the teaching?+

Yes. The board charges for each subject entry and the centre collects it, usually months before the paper: Cambridge closes final entries for its March 2027 series on 27 November 2026, for example. Amounts change between series and between centres, so the only figure to rely on is the one your school's exams officer gives you in writing for your series. Private candidates entering through an external centre pay a centre administration charge on top of the board's entry charge, on the centre's own deadline. None of that is inside a tuition quote, and none of it is something a tutoring provider sets.

Is it worth paying for a remark when a grade sits one mark under a boundary?+

It can be, but the decision is a deadline problem before it is a money problem. Enquiries about results and remarks have a short window after results day, each carries a charge set by the board, and the information needed to judge the odds, such as the component marks, arrives at the same time as the pressure. Ask the exams officer for the window dates and the charge before results day rather than after, so the decision is made with a calendar rather than in a panic. A remark changes a mark only where the paper was misapplied against the scheme, not because a grade was disappointing.

Why are practical and coursework subjects quoted differently from written-paper ones?+

Because the work has its own clock and its own boundary. A written paper can be prepared in weekly hours up to the series; a coursework portfolio or a practical component has internal school deadlines spread across the year, which is why support for it is commonly sold as a block rather than per hour. The boundary matters as much as the billing: a tutor may teach the skill the task assesses, explain the criteria and the mark allocation, and give feedback on a draft the student wrote, but may not supply any of the assessed text. Expect that distinction in writing before paying.

Someone offered us a finished piece of assessed work for a fee. What happens if we take it?+

The student takes the consequence, and it reaches the qualification rather than the component. One operator in this search cluster lists completed IB Internal Assessments at AED 3,750; the same model exists for IGCSE coursework. Submitting work that is not the student's own is malpractice under board rules, and an investigation can affect the whole certificate, not just the piece in question. No deadline and no saving makes that a reasonable trade. The legitimate alternative costs less and is available: hours spent on the criteria, on method, and on feedback against a draft the student actually produced.

Our child sits Arabic as an additional language. Does that need a paid class of its own?+

Check the route before you buy anything. KHDA requires schools to organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and states that combined classes are strictly prohibited because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Arabic as an additional language is a different course from Arabic as a first language, with different expectations. Support bought against the wrong route teaches the wrong syllabus, sometimes in the wrong language. Ask the school which route the child is on and what the reported weakness actually is, then decide whether any paid class is needed at all.

What does discovering the five-subject equivalency rule late actually cost a family?+

An unplanned subject entry at a later series, the classes to prepare for it under deadline, and in some cases a delayed university application. On the British track the Ministry requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than E or grade 3, plus one Advanced Level at E or two Advanced Subsidiary Levels, and Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. A student who assumed Arabic counted can finish Year 11 one qualifying subject short. Checking the count in Year 9, against moe.gov.ae rather than a tutoring page, costs nothing. One ranking competitor states six subjects; the sourced rule is five.

Where do these IGCSE classes actually take place?+

On a video call, one tutor to one student, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time around the school day and around prayer times where that matters to the family. Nobody travels to a UAE address: home visits are part of what IB Gram offers in India, not here. What that changes for a family is reach rather than convenience. A student in Ras Al Khaimah or Fujairah can be taught 0620 Chemistry at Extended tier by somebody who has taught that exact paper recently, at a published online band of roughly AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor, instead of a travel-inclusive AED 180-500 for whoever lives nearby.

Does starting in January for a June series need more hours than starting in September?+

Almost always, and the extra hours are the smaller part of the difference. Starting in September means the entry and tier decisions are still open, the gap is smaller, and the 5pm and 6pm specialist slots are available. Starting in January means the tier is already submitted, the plan has to be counted in papers rather than in topics, and the choice of tutor has narrowed to whoever is left. The rate itself may rise by AED 25-100 an hour close to a series; the real cost is that the cheapest fix, a decision made in time, is no longer purchasable.

How do we judge whether a cheap class is good value or just cheap?+

By what the first hour produces, not by how it felt. A class worth its rate ends with a named weakness, the papers and question types it affects, and work set before the next session. Six weeks later, bring a marked paper and compare it with the one from six weeks earlier by question category. Marks recovered in the named category is the test. A tutor at AED 60 an hour who does that is better value than one at AED 400 who does not, and the free trial class exists so that the comparison costs nothing to run.

Start with the syllabus code, then the format, then the rate

The useful order is narrow and it does not start with price. Find the syllabus code and tier your child is entered for, decide whether the gap needs drill or diagnosis, and only then compare rates within that format. Market bands for IGCSE classes in the UAE run from roughly AED 33 an hour in a shared room to AED 650 for a named specialist, and the figures on this page are other providers' published rates, read in October 2026, not an IB Gram price list. Our classes are one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, and the first one is a free trial lesson so the diagnosis costs you nothing. Send the code, the tier and the series, and we will tell you plainly what is available and what is not.
