IGCSE Home Tutor in Mirdif

Hiring an IGCSE home tutor in Mirdif in November is a different job from hiring one in September, because the November series is already running. This page is built around the calendar: which series your child sits, what the next eight weeks can realistically achieve, and what has to be done by which week. Lessons for Mirdif families are one-to-one over live video, Gulf Standard Time.

  • Lessons run over live video, never at a Mirdif address
  • Plans built backwards from the published official timetable
  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel syllabuses handled separately
  • First lesson free, so the plan is tested before it is paid for

IB & IGCSE in Mirdif

Work backwards from the session, not forwards from today

Every useful IGCSE revision plan is built in reverse. You start at the exam, count back to the last useful teaching week, and fill the space with the smallest number of things that will actually move marks. Families who plan forwards from the day they decide to act end up revising in syllabus order and running out of time somewhere in the middle, which is why so much tutoring money in Dubai buys thorough coverage of the first third of a course.

That matters particularly in early November, because the November series is live. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May or June and in November each year, and the final November 2026 timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level in a June series and a November series. A Mirdif family searching for help this week is therefore either inside the session, in which case the job is damage limitation and paper technique, or preparing for June, in which case there is a genuine eight-month runway and it should not be wasted on panic.

The deadline that catches Mirdif families is not the exam, it is the entry. A centre has to register a candidate months before the first paper, so the practical question in February is not whether there is time to revise for a June paper, it is whether the entry has already been filed and for which tier. Private candidates feel this hardest, because there is no school office quietly doing it for them. Ask the centre for the statement of entry, confirm the board, the syllabus code and the tier on it, and only then build the revision weeks around the published window.

Mirdif sits in the eastern suburbs between Al Mizhar, Al Warqa, Al Khawaneej and Nad Al Hamar, and the schools families here use run both Cambridge and Pearson syllabuses, sometimes in the same building for different subjects. The first question any tutor should ask is which board, which syllabus code and which tier, because Cambridge 0580 Mathematics and Pearson 4MA1 are not the same paper structure and preparing for the wrong one wastes the whole block.

Lessons for Mirdif are delivered one-to-one over live video. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. In exam term that delivery model earns its keep in a specific way: a lesson can be moved from Tuesday to Monday because a paper got rescheduled, without anybody renegotiating a drive across Nad Al Hamar at 16:00.

What follows is the session laid out backwards, an eight-week plan with weekly outputs, the zone problem that costs candidates an exam every year, what the market charges, the Core and Extended tier decision and its grade ceiling, and the five-subject rule that governs Ministry of Education equivalency for IGCSE students in the UAE.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

IGCSE is a two-year course with decisions taken early that set the ceiling late. These are the stages Mirdif families ask about, and the handover points where tutoring tends to be booked.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

International General Certificate of Secondary Education

Typically eight to ten subjects examined at the end of Year 11, offered by Cambridge International and by Pearson Edexcel. Cambridge tiers many subjects as Core and Extended with different grade ceilings; Pearson offers single-tier papers in most subjects and modular entry in some. Syllabus codes matter: 0580 and 0607 are different Cambridge mathematics courses entirely.

In Dubai, IGCSE is the dominant pre-16 route, with UK-curriculum schools accounting for thirty-seven per cent of private-school enrolment in 2024-25. Mirdif families often have one child on Cambridge and another on Pearson, which is why board identification is the first question rather than a detail.

Y9Ages 13-14

Year 9 and option choices

The year the subject set is chosen and, in Cambridge subjects, the year a Core or Extended recommendation is first made. Choices made here set what is possible at 16 and what is possible at 18, and they are frequently made on timetable convenience rather than on where the student is actually strong.

Tutoring requests from Mirdif in Year 9 are usually about securing an Extended recommendation in mathematics or a science, because a Core entry caps the achievable grade and closes some A Level and Diploma routes two years later.

POST-16Ages 16-19

A Level, IB Diploma or BTEC after IGCSE

IGCSE results determine entry to A Level, the IB Diploma or vocational routes, and each has different subject prerequisites. Mathematics and the sciences are where the grade thresholds bite, and a grade 5 against a required grade 6 in one subject can redirect a whole sixth-form plan.

Several schools in the eastern-suburbs arc run the IB Diploma, so IGCSE students here have a genuine choice between A Level and DP. The transition work differs: A Level wants depth in three subjects, DP wants breadth in six plus the core.

RESITAny age

Resit and private candidate entry

The November series functions as the resit route for June candidates, and November candidates can resit in June. Private candidates must be entered through an approved examination centre, and the centre, not the tutor, controls entry deadlines and the timetable zone the candidate sits under.

Mirdif families whose child missed a grade in June often ask about November entry too late. Entry deadlines sit months before the papers, which is the single most expensive thing not to know, so ask the school or centre for the deadline the week the results arrive.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Requests from Mirdif concentrate on the subjects where a tier or a paper structure decides the grade, and where eight focused weeks can still change the outcome.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended; Pearson 4MA1 Foundation and Higher

Two papers in most routes, calculator and non-calculator depending on the board and tier. Extended and Higher candidates lose most marks on algebraic manipulation and on multi-step problems where the method is never written down.

Additional and International Mathematics

Cambridge 0606 and 0607

0607 International Mathematics assumes a graphic display calculator and assesses investigation; 0606 Additional Mathematics is a harder algebraic course. Confusing the two when buying tutoring is common and wastes the first two lessons.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 Core and Extended; Pearson 4PH1

Electricity and waves absorb the most lesson time. Required practical skills are examined on a written paper, so students who did the experiments but never learned to describe a method precisely lose those marks on paper.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620; Pearson 4CH1

Moles calculations, ionic equations and the qualitative analysis tables are the three recoverable areas. The qualitative tables in particular are pure recall and are routinely left unlearned until the final fortnight.

Biology

Cambridge 0610; Pearson 4BI1

Command-term driven. Describe, explain and suggest are marked differently, and a student writing the same style of answer to all three plateaus in the middle grades regardless of how much content they know.

English Language

Cambridge 0500 and 0990; Pearson 4EA1

Directed writing and the composition task carry structure marks that are independent of ideas. Reading questions reward precise selection of evidence, and most lost marks come from quoting too much and analysing too little.

English as a Second Language

Cambridge 0510 and 0511

A different qualification from English Language with different expectations, and the choice between them affects post-16 entry. Worth confirming which one your child is entered for before buying any tutoring.

Economics and Business Studies

Cambridge 0455 and 0450

Data response and extended answers reward applied analysis over definitions. Students who learn definitions thoroughly and apply none of them sit around the middle of the grade range for the whole course.

Computer Science

Cambridge 0478; Pearson 4CP0

Pseudocode conventions, trace tables and the theory paper. The theory paper is where marks are won cheaply, because it is largely learnable recall that students neglect in favour of programming.

Arabic

First language and additional language streams

Mandatory in Dubai private schools alongside the licensed curriculum, and streamed separately for Arabs and non-Arabs under KHDA rules. Support should work from the school's own material because the permitted content is prescribed.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

In exam term the format should follow the calendar rather than a preference. These three are what Mirdif families actually book between October and the end of a session.

Eight-week dated revision block

A finite series counted backwards from the paper date, with a weekly output agreed in advance: one timed paper marked, one topic rebuilt, one technique drilled. It ends at the exam rather than rolling on, which is the point of booking it as a block.

  • Fixed number of lessons with dates
  • Weekly written output, not just discussion
  • Built from the official timetable for your centre's zone
  • Ends at the paper

Weekly one-to-one across the year

For June candidates with a real runway. One lesson a week on the subject that is genuinely weakest, working through the syllabus in the order that marks demand rather than the order the textbook uses.

  • Same tutor and slot each week
  • Syllabus sequenced by weighting
  • Mock results used to re-plan rather than to worry
  • Reviewed each half-term

Study-leave intensive

Short, frequent sessions during the study-leave weeks when the student is at home all day. Morning slots work better than afternoon ones in that period, and because lessons are online the slot can move each day to sit before the relevant paper.

  • Two to four shorter sessions a week
  • Morning slots available on study-leave days
  • Sequenced to the order the papers fall
  • No travel, so same-day changes are possible

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Mirdif

01

What an IGCSE home tutor in Mirdif can change in eight weeks

Eight weeks is enough for three things and not enough for a fourth. It is enough to rebuild two or three topics that were never understood, enough to fix paper technique across a whole subject, and enough to turn a student who leaves marks on the table into one who collects them. It is not enough to learn a two-year syllabus. Any tutor who tells a Mirdif parent in November that a June-standard Extended course can be covered before the papers is selling, and the parent should treat the answer as disqualifying.

The useful diagnosis takes one marked mock. Sort every lost mark into content not known, technique not applied, or time not managed. In most IGCSE scripts from this cohort the split is roughly a third content and two thirds the other two, which is good news, because technique and timing move much faster than content does. A student who knows the chemistry and loses eleven marks to unwritten working can recover those in four lessons.

The honest limit on the other side is attendance. An eight-week block only works if eight lessons happen. In exam term, lessons collapse because of rescheduled papers, school revision sessions and illness, and in Mirdif they also collapse because somebody has to drive. Delivery over live video removes the last of those: a lesson can shift from Tuesday 17:30 to Monday 19:00 with a message, because nobody has committed to a journey.

So the answer to the search is specific rather than reassuring. An IGCSE home tutor in Mirdif, in the sense of somebody arriving at your villa, is a service other providers offer at AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel. IB Gram offers the same teaching over video, one-to-one, with no home visits anywhere in the UAE, and the first lesson costs nothing so the plan can be tested before it is bought.

02

The session calendar, counted backwards

Nobody in this market publishes the calendar, which is odd, because it is the first thing a parent needs. The table below is the sequence in reverse: results, papers, entry, and the work that should have happened before each. Dates shown are the ones published by Pearson for the International GCSE and are quoted with their source framing; the live official timetable is the only version to plan on, because provisional timetables are revised.

The pattern worth internalising is that entry deadlines sit months before the papers. That is why a family reading a disappointing June result in late August has a window to act for November that closes long before the November papers appear on the horizon. The centre, not the tutor and not the parent, controls entry, so the question goes to the school's examinations officer the week results land.

Results timing is equally worth knowing in advance. Pearson's June 2026 International GCSE results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026. November results come considerably later: the November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. A student sitting November papers is therefore waiting into the new year, which matters for sixth-form applications and is better known in October than discovered in December.

Build the plan around those fixed points and the eight weeks allocate themselves. Work the last two weeks as timed papers only, the middle four as topic repair with one timed paper a week, and the first two as diagnosis and the two highest-weighted topics. That sequence survives contact with reality better than a syllabus-order plan does.

03

Which series and which board your child is actually in

A surprising number of parents cannot say with certainty which board their child sits, and in Dubai it is frequently not one board. Schools routinely enter mathematics with one provider and sciences with another, because the specifications suit different teaching teams. For tutoring, that distinction is not academic: Cambridge 0580 Extended and Pearson 4MA1 Higher reward different styles of working, and the past papers are not interchangeable.

Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level in a June series and a November series. UAE candidates sit those two. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May or June and in November each year, with the final November 2026 timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026 and provisional timetables published ahead of each series, including one already published for the next International GCSE November series.

Pearson also offers modular entry in some subjects, where units are sat across sessions rather than all at the end. If your child is on a modular route, the planning question changes completely: the next unit may be weeks away rather than months, and a block of tutoring has a much shorter and sharper target. Ask the school explicitly whether any subject is modular, because it is rarely volunteered.

Two minutes of checking saves a wasted block. Ask the school, for each subject: which board, which syllabus or specification code, which tier, and whether entry is linear or modular. Write the four answers down. Any tutor worth hiring will ask for exactly that list before the first lesson, and a tutor who does not ask is about to teach the wrong paper.

04

The zone problem that costs candidates an exam

This is the most consequential administrative fact in the IGCSE calendar and almost nobody writes it down. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, and the timetable differs between them. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable.

What that means in practice for a Mirdif family: a timetable found through a search engine, or shared in a parents' group by somebody whose child attends a different school, may be the wrong zone. A paper that falls on a Tuesday morning in one zone can fall on a different day in another. The only safe source is the timetable your child's own centre issues, and the only safe cross-check is the official site rather than a reproduction of it.

There is a milder version of the same trap with provisional timetables. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, which is useful for planning and dangerous for precision, because they are revised before becoming final. A revision plan built on a provisional date is fine. A study-leave travel booking built on one is not.

The rule we apply on every page here, and the rule worth applying at home, is that no tutoring website should be your date source. Plan from the live official timetable and from the paper your child's examinations officer hands over. This page quotes Pearson's published November 2026 window because it is sourced, and still tells you to check it.

05

What IGCSE tutoring costs around Mirdif in exam term

Prices rise as the session approaches, which is worth planning around rather than resenting. The structural reason is simple: specialist tutors fill their evening slots first, and by late October the AED 150 to 300 band for a qualified subject tutor online has fewer people with free hours in it than it had in September. Booking in August for November costs less and gets a better match than booking in November for November.

The published market splits as follows. Budget online tutoring, typically university students, runs AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik advertising from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor online sits at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. In-home one-to-one, travel included, is quoted at AED 180 to 500, with Bestimate at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors at AED 200 to 500. IB and IGCSE specialists run AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270. Premium named tutors reach AED 500 to 650 or more, with BartyED at AED 650.

For an eight-week block the figure that matters is the total. Eight weekly sessions at the qualified online band comes to roughly AED 1,200 to 2,400 for one subject. The same block in-home comes to roughly AED 1,440 to 4,000. Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions are AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support, and monthly packages advertised in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits.

IB Gram publishes no rate card here, and the figures above are other providers' published numbers with the provider named so that you can check them yourself. The practical advice is to buy one subject properly rather than three thinly. Three subjects at one lesson a fortnight produces no measurable change in any of them, and that is the commonest way an exam-term budget is wasted in this city.

Core or Extended, and the ceiling it sets

In Cambridge subjects that are tiered, the Core and Extended decision caps what is achievable before any revision happens. Core papers are assessed over a narrower grade range than Extended papers, so a student capable of a high grade who sits Core cannot reach it, and a student entered for Extended who cannot cope with the harder paper risks a worse outcome than Core would have produced. The decision is the school's recommendation with the parent in the conversation, and it is usually taken in Year 10 or early Year 11.

The argument for Extended is not ambition, it is what comes next. A Core mathematics grade closes some A Level and Diploma mathematics routes two years later, and the family typically discovers that in Year 12 rather than Year 10. If your child is borderline, the useful question to the school is not whether they can pass Extended but what the Extended entry does to their predicted grade and to their sixth-form options.

Where tutoring genuinely helps is in making the borderline case viable. The gap between Core-comfortable and Extended-viable in mathematics is usually algebraic fluency and multi-step problem structure rather than new topics, and that is a teachable, finite piece of work. Eight to twelve weeks of weekly lessons on exactly that gap changes the conversation with the school, and the conversation should happen before the entry is submitted rather than after.

Pearson's equivalent is Foundation and Higher in some subjects, with the same logic. Ask the school for the tier per subject in writing, because a mixed picture across eight subjects is normal and nobody remembers it accurately from a parents' evening.

07

Why online delivery earns its keep in the weeks that matter

In September the delivery format is a preference. In exam term it is a logistics decision. Papers get rescheduled, schools add revision sessions at short notice, study leave starts and the student is suddenly at home all day, and one person in the family is already doing four school runs a day between Mirdif and Festival City.

Over video, a lesson can move from Tuesday 17:30 to Monday 19:00 with a message, and during study leave it can move to 10:00 because the student is home. None of that requires renegotiating a journey across Nad Al Hamar or Al Khawaneej Road at 16:00. An in-home arrangement cannot flex that way, not because the tutor is unwilling but because their whole afternoon is built around the drive.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE at all; home visits are an India-only service, and in exam term that is a feature rather than an apology. The second benefit is subject choice. In late October the local pool of people who will drive to the eastern suburbs for a single evening slot and who know Cambridge 0620 qualitative analysis is extremely small. The online pool is not.

The honest counterweight: a fourteen-year-old revising alone in a bedroom needs more supervision than a sixteen-year-old does, and video lessons do not supply a parent. Put the laptop somewhere visible, keep the camera on, and treat the written note after each lesson as the thing you actually read. That recovers most of what the in-person format offered and keeps the schedule flexible.

08

Ministry of Education equivalency: the five-subject rule

IGCSE families in the UAE eventually meet equivalency, and the detail is published and frequently misreported. For the British track, students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and must submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade.

Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects for the GCSE and IGCSE count. That is worth stating plainly because one ranking competitor in this market tells UAE candidates they must take six IGCSE subjects, which is wrong, and a parent planning a subject set on that basis may add a subject nobody needs.

For the American track the requirements are different: English proficiency is evidenced by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the IB, no points threshold should be quoted without reading it on the Ministry's own pages, and this page does not publish one.

Two caveats matter. Equivalency is a process the Ministry runs, not something a tutoring provider performs, guarantees or accelerates, and nothing on this page should be read as implying that tutoring is required for it. Verify your own case against the Ministry's current published requirements, because the detail is revised, and ask the school's university counsellor who has handled the paperwork many times.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Mirdif

The eastern-suburbs communities around Mirdif share schools, roads and arrival times, so the weekly scheduling described on this page applies across them.

Al Mizhar

North-east of Mirdif across Al Khawaneej Road, on most of the same school routes. Exam-term scheduling is interchangeable with Mirdif's, including evening slots during the November papers.

Al Warqa

South of Mirdif and closer to the Dubai-Al Ain Road. A high proportion of households here run two boards across siblings, which makes board identification the first question.

Al Khawaneej

Outer eastern edge with the longest bus runs in the cluster. Families here book 18:00 and 19:00 slots, and in exam term often shift to a morning slot on a study-leave day.

Nad Al Hamar

Between Mirdif and the creek, closest to the Festival City schools. Earlier arrivals make a 16:30 slot workable here when it is not workable in outer Mirdif.

Dubai Festival City

Holds two of the schools the eastern suburbs use, so children living here are home earliest and can take the first slot of the afternoon.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

Apartment-heavy and close to Academic City. A frequent origin for Pearson candidates, and for private candidates entered through centres nearby.

International City

Dense and well connected to the eastern school arc. Study-leave weeks here often mean a student is at home all day, which opens morning revision slots.

Al Rashidiya

On the metro between Mirdif and the airport. Short commutes and the one part of the cluster where mid-afternoon sessions are routinely possible in term time.

Mirdif, Al Warqa and Al Mizhar schools

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the four facts in writing

Board, syllabus or specification code, tier, and linear or modular, for each subject. Ask the school by email so you have it written down. A tutor matched without those four facts is being matched on guesswork, and the first two lessons go on correcting it.

  2. 02

    Send the last marked mock

One marked paper lets us sort losses into content, technique and timing, which decides the whole plan. In exam term that diagnosis is worth more than a conversation about how the subject feels, and it takes us an afternoon rather than a fortnight.

  3. 03

    Count backwards from the paper

We build the block from the official timetable your centre issued, not from a date found online, and we say how many lessons fit before the first paper. If eight weeks is not enough for what you are asking, you hear that at this stage rather than in week six.

  4. 04

    Free trial lesson over video

One lesson with the matched tutor, at no charge. Ask them to mark one of your child's wrong answers against the official mark scheme and name where the marks sit. A specialist does it immediately; a generalist explains the topic instead.

  5. 05

    Weekly output, not weekly discussion

Each week the block produces something: a timed paper marked, a topic rebuilt, a technique drilled. You get a short written note naming it. In the last fortnight the output is whole papers under time, because that is the only thing that still moves marks.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Plans built from the official timetable

Cambridge allocates centres to one of six exam zones and says the correct zone timetable is essential. We plan from the timetable your centre issued, never from a reproduction, and we tell you to verify it yourself.

Board and tier identified first

Cambridge 0580 Extended and Pearson 4MA1 Higher are different papers. Matching before those facts are known produces a tutor teaching the wrong specification, which is the commonest waste of an exam-term budget in Dubai.

Flexible in the weeks it matters

Lessons move at short notice because nothing has to drive anywhere. In study-leave weeks a slot can sit at 10:00 instead of 17:30, and during Ramadan it can shift past iftar without renegotiating anyone's journey.

We say what eight weeks cannot do

Eight weeks fixes technique, timing and two or three topics. It does not cover a two-year syllabus. Any provider telling a Mirdif parent otherwise in November should be ruled out on that answer alone.

Market rates named and checkable

Every AED figure on this page is another provider's published number with the provider named, so you can verify it in twenty minutes. Our own quote comes after the free trial, when there is something concrete to quote on.

Equivalency described, not promised

The five-subject rule and the American-track test scores are quoted from the published sources. Equivalency is the Ministry's process; we do not perform it, accelerate it, or suggest that tutoring is required for it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Mirdif: your questions answered

Can an IGCSE tutor visit our villa in Mirdif?+

Not through IB Gram. Home visits are a service we run only in India, and UAE tuition is delivered one-to-one over live video. Independent in-home tutors do work across the eastern suburbs, and the Dubai market rate for in-home one-to-one is quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified tutor online. In exam term the online format also flexes when papers move, which an arrangement built around a drive cannot do.

Which exam series will my child sit in the UAE?+

June and November. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level in a June series and a November series, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May or June and in November each year. The November 2026 Pearson final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. If anyone quotes you a February or March exam window for a UAE candidate, that is the series offered to India and it does not apply to your child.

When do November IGCSE results come out?+

Considerably later than June results, which catches families out. Pearson's November 2025 International GCSE results reached students on 22 January 2026, so a November candidate is waiting into the new year. By comparison, June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026. If sixth-form applications depend on the grade, plan for that gap now and ask the school how it handles predicted grades in the interim.

Is eight weeks enough to turn a grade around?+

Enough for some things and not others. Eight weeks can rebuild two or three topics, fix paper technique across a subject, and stop a student leaving marks on the table through unwritten working or poor time management. It cannot cover a two-year syllabus that was never learned. Send the last marked mock and the split is usually clear: in most scripts from this cohort roughly a third of lost marks are content and two thirds are technique and timing, and the second group moves fastest.

What is the exam zone and why does it matter for a Dubai centre?+

Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, and the timetable differs between them. Cambridge states that using the correct version of the timetable for your zone is essential and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. The practical consequence is that a timetable found online, or shared by a parent whose child attends a different school, may be wrong for your centre. Use the timetable your examinations officer issues.

How do I find out which board each of my child's subjects uses?+

Ask the school by email and get four facts per subject in writing: board, syllabus or specification code, tier, and whether entry is linear or modular. Mixed entry across subjects is completely normal in Dubai, with mathematics on one board and sciences on another. Those four facts decide which past papers are useful and which are a waste of a lesson, and any tutor who does not ask for them before starting is about to prepare your child for the wrong paper.

Core or Extended: what does the tier on the entry form do to the grade ceiling?+

That is the school's recommendation and it sets a ceiling, so it deserves a proper conversation rather than a nod. Core papers are assessed over a narrower grade range, so a capable student entered for Core cannot reach the top grades, while a student entered for Extended who cannot handle the paper may do worse than Core would have given them. The question to ask the school is what the Extended entry does to the predicted grade and to post-16 options, not simply whether your child would pass.

How many IGCSE subjects does UAE equivalency actually require?+

Five. For the British track, students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, plus one accredited Advanced Level subject at no less than E, or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five. One ranking competitor states that UAE candidates need six IGCSE subjects, which is incorrect. Verify your own case against the Ministry's current published requirements before planning a subject set.

Does tutoring help with the equivalency process itself?+

No, and no provider should suggest otherwise. Equivalency is run by the Ministry of Education and the emirate attestation authorities, and it is a documentation process rather than an academic one. Tutoring affects the grades your child achieves, which in turn affect whether the published thresholds are met, and that is the entire connection. We describe the requirements, cite the published source, and point you to the official channel and to your school's university counsellor, who has handled the paperwork many times.

My child is a private candidate. Does that change the plan?+

It changes the administration more than the teaching. Private candidates must be entered through an approved examination centre, and the centre controls the entry deadline, the fees and the timetable zone the candidate sits under. Find the centre first and the deadline second, because the deadline sits months before the papers and missing it removes the session entirely. Once entry is confirmed, the revision block is built the same way: backwards from the paper, with weekly outputs.

What does an eight-week IGCSE block cost in Dubai?+

Depends on the band. Eight weekly hours at the qualified online rate of AED 150 to 300 comes to roughly AED 1,200 to 2,400 for one subject. The same block at the in-home rate of AED 180 to 500 comes to roughly AED 1,440 to 4,000. Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions are AED 240 to 600 budget, AED 600 to 1,200 mid and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Those are other providers' published figures; ours is quoted after the free trial.

Is it better to tutor one subject properly or three a little?+

One, almost always. Three subjects at a lesson a fortnight produces no measurable change in any of them and is the commonest way an exam-term budget is wasted in this city. A single subject at one lesson a week for eight weeks, with a weekly marked output, moves marks you can see on a script. If two subjects genuinely need work, the honest answer is two specialists on two evenings rather than one tutor spread across both.

Can lessons move during study leave or Ramadan?+

Yes, and this is where video delivery pays for itself. During study leave students are at home all day, so morning slots become available and sessions can be re-sequenced to sit the day before each paper. During Ramadan evening schedules shift and post-iftar slots are frequently more productive than late-afternoon ones. None of that requires renegotiating a drive across the eastern suburbs, so a same-week change takes a message rather than a conversation.

Do private tutors in the UAE need a licence, and is my tutor covered?+

Private tutoring is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is open to registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. Ask any independent tutor directly, and note that the permit's code of conduct bars serving students from the tutor's own school.

What should the last fortnight before the papers look like?+

Whole papers under time, marked strictly against the official mark scheme, and nothing else. Topic teaching in the final fortnight rarely survives into the exam hall, while timing strategy and question-order decisions do. Two or three complete papers a week per subject, with the lesson spent on the five questions that lost marks for a nameable reason, is the highest-return use of those weeks. Your child's school holds licensed access to the papers and mark schemes; we do not reproduce or supply board material.

Find out the series, then build backwards

If you are looking for an IGCSE home tutor in Mirdif, start with four facts from the school: board, syllabus code, tier, and whether entry is linear or modular. Then get the timetable your centre issued, count the weeks to the first paper, and send us one marked mock. We will say what that number of weeks can realistically achieve, match a specialist by board and tier, and run the first lesson over live video at no charge. No tutor comes to a UAE address, no date on this page should be used without checking the official timetable, and no grade is promised anywhere on it.
