IB Chemistry Tutor in Mirdif

An IB Chemistry tutor in Mirdif is harder to find than the search results suggest. Mirdif sits far enough from Dubai's IB-heavy western corridor that the pool of Diploma Chemistry specialists willing to drive out here is small, and it is the same small pool whether you live in Mirdif, Al Warqa or Al Mizhar. IB Gram solves that differently: one-to-one lessons over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time, matched on the syllabus your child is actually sitting rather than on postcode.

  • Matched on IB Chemistry HL or SL, never on driving distance
  • Sessions run on Gulf Standard Time, after the eastern-suburbs school run
  • Free trial lesson before you commit to any block of sessions
  • Tutors coach the scientific investigation; they never write it

IB & IGCSE in Mirdif

Mirdif, Al Warqa, Al Mizhar: the Chemistry tutor problem is identical in all three

Parents in Mirdif usually start this search after a mock. The Chemistry grade comes back a 4 or a 5, the student insists they revised, and nobody in the house can tell whether the problem is the content, the command terms or the data questions. The next step is a Google search for an IB Chemistry tutor in Mirdif, and the results look reassuringly local. Most of them are not. Scroll the listings and you find agency pages that name every Dubai community in a footer, freelance adverts posted from Al Nahda, and marketplaces quoting US dollars.

The honest position is worth stating early, because it changes what you should be comparing. Dubai's IB Diploma Chemistry teaching pool is concentrated where the IB schools are concentrated, and that is mostly the western and central corridor: Al Barsha, Umm Suqeim, Nad Al Sheba, Dubai Hills. Mirdif has strong schools, but it sits on the eastern side of the city, and a tutor who lives in Al Barsha is looking at a 35 to 50 minute drive each way at 4pm. That tutor either declines, or charges for the travel, or arrives at 5:30pm when your child is already tired.

Now cross Algeria Street into Al Warqa, or carry on to Al Mizhar or Al Khawaneej. The arithmetic does not change. The same handful of Chemistry HL specialists are the same distance away; the drive is five minutes longer or shorter and the premium is the same. This is the point of this page. Families often assume their area is uniquely badly served and that moving the search one neighbourhood over will turn up someone better. It will not, because the constraint is not your postcode. The constraint is how few people in this city teach Diploma Chemistry to examination standard.

Once you accept that, the sensible question changes from "who is near me" to "who actually knows this syllabus". That is a question online tuition answers properly. IB Gram delivers one-to-one IB Chemistry tuition to Mirdif over live video, which means the tutor is selected for the course your child sits rather than for the road between their flat and yours. A student taking Chemistry HL with a weak grasp of equilibrium gets a tutor who teaches equilibrium, not whoever was free and local. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in the UAE; home visits are a service we run in India only.

The rest of this page compares the two options properly, with the AED figures the rest of this market refuses to publish, the assessment structure your child is being marked against, and a Diploma year counted backwards from the examination session so you can see where the next eight weeks have to go. Nothing here promises a grade. It gives you enough detail to judge a tutor in the first lesson, which is more useful.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Mirdif families arrive at Diploma Chemistry by several routes. Some children come through a full IB continuum school, some transfer in from IGCSE at a British-curriculum school in the eastern suburbs, and some arrive mid-DP1 from abroad. The three programmes below are the ones that matter for this page, and each one needs a different first lesson.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

The two-year Diploma is where Chemistry becomes a named, externally examined subject at Higher or Standard Level. Students sit Paper 1, split into a multiple-choice section and a data-based section, and Paper 2, which is structured and extended response. Alongside the papers sits the scientific investigation, an independent piece of practical work worth a fifth of the final grade. The Diploma also carries Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS, which compete for the same evenings as Chemistry revision.

Dubai's IB cohort is a minority of the private-school population at roughly 7%, which is precisely why Diploma Chemistry teachers are thin on the ground in the eastern suburbs. Mirdif students more often sit the Diploma at a school a drive away rather than at the end of their own street, so timetables vary by school and so does the internal deadline for the investigation draft.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

MYP Sciences is assessed against four criteria rather than against papers, and that difference catches Mirdif students out when they reach DP1. A child can score a 7 in MYP Science on strong investigations and reflective writing, then meet Diploma Chemistry Paper 1 and discover they have never been asked to answer forty multiple-choice questions in ninety minutes. The repair work is mechanical: calculation fluency, moles, mark-scheme literacy and timed practice.

Several schools serving Mirdif and Al Mizhar run MYP to Year 11 and then offer both the Diploma and A Levels. Families in the eastern suburbs therefore face a real choice at 16, and the Chemistry question is a large part of it. A student who liked MYP Science for the practical work usually prefers the Diploma; one who wants depth in two subjects often prefers A Levels.

DP CoursesAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme course candidate

Not every student sitting IB Chemistry is doing the full Diploma. Course candidates take individual Diploma subjects and receive certificates rather than the Diploma itself, which suits students who want Chemistry at Higher Level for a medicine or engineering application without the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge load. The Chemistry syllabus, the papers and the investigation are identical; only the surrounding requirements differ.

Course-candidate Chemistry is worth knowing about in Mirdif, where several students move in from American-curriculum or CBSE schools partway through secondary. For Ministry of Education equivalency, what the certificate route can and cannot carry is a question for the ministry's own attestation channel rather than for a tutor, and we point parents there rather than guessing.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Chemistry is the subject on this page, but almost no Mirdif family books one subject in isolation. A Diploma Chemistry student is usually also wrestling with Maths AA and often Physics or Biology. These are the courses our tutors cover for students in the eastern suburbs, with the specific places marks go missing in each.

Chemistry

HL and SL

The page subject. HL adds depth across most topics and a longer Paper 2. Marks are lost most reliably on equilibrium, entropy and spontaneity, the organic mechanisms that need arrows drawn correctly, and the data-based section where students round early and lose the final significant-figure mark.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The usual companion to Chemistry HL. Students who struggle with the logarithm work in pH calculations are often the same students struggling with logarithms in AA. Fixing the maths usually fixes two grades, which is why we check for it in the first Chemistry lesson.

Physics

HL and SL

Taken alongside Chemistry by most engineering applicants in Dubai. The shared weakness is uncertainty and error analysis: a student who cannot propagate uncertainties loses marks in both subjects' practical work and in both data-based papers.

Biology

HL and SL

The medicine route pairs Biology with Chemistry HL. Biology rewards precise terminology where Chemistry rewards calculation, and students who learn one habit often carry it into the wrong paper. Command-term practice is the fix, and it transfers.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Chosen by Chemistry SL students heading for life sciences or business. The statistics content is heavier than in AA, and the graphic-display-calculator work is examinable, so calculator fluency is part of the tutoring rather than an afterthought.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Carries the Individual Oral and the HL essay. Mirdif's cohort includes many students for whom English is a second or third language, and extended-response marks in Chemistry improve when written expression improves.

Economics

HL and SL

A common third subject for students who keep Chemistry SL. The internal assessment is a set of commentaries on published news articles, and the deadline pattern collides with the Chemistry investigation in DP1, which is a planning problem worth solving early.

Environmental Systems and Societies

SL

Sometimes taken instead of Chemistry by students who find the calculation load heavy. Worth discussing honestly before a subject change, because dropping Chemistry closes several UAE and UK degree routes that a parent may not have considered.

Arabic B

HL and SL

Taken by many non-Arab students in Dubai schools and sat alongside the KHDA-mandated Arabic provision. Oral assessment carries real weight, and preparation is conversational rather than written, which is a different kind of session.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Not a Chemistry course, but the TOK exhibition and essay land in the same months as the scientific investigation. Our support is structural: how to read the prescribed title, how to build an argument, and where the assessment instrument actually awards marks.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to work, all delivered online. Which one a Mirdif family picks usually depends on how far away the examination session is and whether the problem is a specific topic or a general drift in confidence. Nobody should be sold a two-year plan in October of DP2.

Weekly one-to-one Chemistry

The default. One sixty or ninety-minute session a week, same slot, with the tutor working a term ahead of the school's scheme of work rather than behind it. This is the format that repairs a 4 into a 6 over two terms, because it gives the student time to practise between sessions and gives the tutor a chance to see whether the practice happened.

  • Same tutor throughout, so topic gaps are tracked rather than rediscovered
  • Written notes after each session naming the next piece of practice
  • Past-paper questions set between sessions and marked to the published criteria
  • Session time fixed after the school run, typically 4:30pm to 8pm Gulf Standard Time

Scientific investigation coaching

A short block around the independent investigation. The tutor helps the student narrow a research question to something measurable at school, checks that the method will generate enough data to analyse, and gives feedback on the draft against the published criteria. The student designs it, runs it and writes it. We do not write any part of it, and we say so to the student in the first session.

  • Research-question narrowing before any laboratory time is wasted
  • Data-analysis and uncertainty treatment checked against the criteria
  • Written feedback on the student's own draft, never rewriting
  • Timed to the school's internal deadline rather than to ours

Intensive examination block

Two or three sessions a week for six to ten weeks before the examination session, built from the student's own mock paper rather than from a generic revision plan. Topic order follows where marks were actually lost. For most Mirdif students this begins after the February or March mock results land, which is late but not too late if the sessions are used properly.

  • First session spent marking the mock question by question with the student
  • Topic order set by the mock, not by the textbook order
  • Whole papers under timed conditions, including the data-based section
  • Command-term drill so a 'deduce' answer stops reading like a 'state' answer

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Mirdif

01

Mirdif against the next neighbourhood over: the comparison in full

Start with the claim this page makes and then test it. A parent in Mirdif searching for a Chemistry tutor is working from a reasonable assumption: that their area is underserved and that a neighbouring community might be better covered. The table below sets Mirdif beside the four communities that ring it and compares the things that actually determine whether a tutor turns up and whether they know the syllabus.

What the comparison shows is that the variables families worry about move very little across the cluster, and the variable that matters does not move at all. Drive time to Dubai's IB-heavy districts varies by around fifteen minutes across the whole eastern suburb belt. The realistic earliest start for an in-home session varies by perhaps forty-five minutes depending on school and school-run arrangements. The number of IB Diploma Chemistry specialists living within half an hour is small everywhere, because the IB schools that employ them are elsewhere.

This is not an argument that Mirdif is a poor place to raise a Diploma student. It is a good one, with real schools and short runs to several more. It is an argument that geography is the wrong axis to optimise. If you would not accept a Chemistry teacher at your child's school on the grounds that they live nearby, the same standard should apply to the tutor you pay for. Online delivery removes the postcode from the decision entirely, which is why families in Al Khawaneej moved first and families in Mirdif are moving now.

The IB Chemistry course your child is actually being marked on

Before any tutoring decision, it helps to know what the final grade is made of. IB Diploma Chemistry is assessed through two written papers and one piece of independent practical work. Paper 1 carries 36% of the grade and comes in two parts: a multiple-choice section sat without a data booklet question bank, and a data-based section that asks students to read graphs, tables and spectra. Paper 2 carries 44% and is where extended response marks live. The scientific investigation carries the remaining 20%.

That distribution is the single most useful fact on this page, because it tells you where tutoring hours should go. A student who is strong on recall and weak on analysis is losing marks in the smaller paper and the investigation, which together are more than half the grade. A student who panics in extended response is losing them in the larger paper. These are different problems with different remedies, and a tutor who starts with content revision rather than with the student's marked mock is guessing.

Higher Level is not Standard Level with extra homework. The HL syllabus goes deeper across most topics and the papers are longer, which changes the pacing demand as much as the content demand. A Mirdif student who moved from MYP Sciences into Chemistry HL often has the conceptual grasp and not the examination stamina. That is fixable, but only with whole papers under timed conditions, which almost no student does voluntarily.

Where Chemistry marks actually go missing, topic by topic

  • Moles and stoichiometry: accuracy is fine, speed is not, and speed is examinable
  • Equilibrium: confusing the position of equilibrium with the rate of reaction
  • Organic mechanisms: arrow origin, lone pairs and formal charge each carry marks
  • Energetics and entropy: sign conventions applied by habit rather than by reasoning
  • Data analysis: premature rounding, missing units, uncertainties left untreated
  • Command terms: 'deduce', 'explain' and 'state' answered as though interchangeable

Ask a student why their Chemistry grade is a 4 and they will say they find it hard. Ask the mark scheme and it gives names. In our experience with Dubai Diploma cohorts, the losses cluster in a small number of predictable places, and almost all of them are procedural rather than conceptual. A tutor's first job is to find which of these apply, which takes one lesson with the marked paper in front of both of them.

Moles and stoichiometry come first, because everything downstream depends on them. A student who hesitates converting between mass, moles and concentration will be slow on every calculation question in both papers, and slowness in Paper 1A costs marks even when the chemistry is right. Equilibrium follows: the arithmetic is manageable but the reasoning about shifts, and the distinction between rate and position, is where answers become vague and vague answers score nothing.

Then there is organic chemistry, where the marks are in the detail of mechanisms rather than in the product. Arrows that start in the wrong place, missing lone pairs, missing charges: each is a mark, and a student who arrives at the right product by the wrong route often scores one mark out of four. Energetics and entropy catch students who learned a formula and not a sign convention, so an answer comes out negative when it should be positive and the reasoning behind it was never secure. And in the data-based section, the recurring loss is significant figures and units, which is the cheapest set of marks on the paper to recover and the easiest to keep losing week after week.

What Chemistry tuition costs across eastern Dubai, in AED

Most of this market will not print a number. Three of the six strongest pages ranking for Dubai tutoring queries publish no price at all, and two of the remaining three quote US dollars, which is not the currency a Mirdif family budgets in. So here is the market, in dirhams, with the source of each band named. These are market rates in Dubai, not IB Gram's price list; our own pricing follows a free trial lesson and a conversation about how many sessions the student actually needs.

Read the table from the bottom rather than the top, because the interesting question is not what the premium tier costs but what the difference buys. Between a budget online tutor at AED 45 to 150 an hour and a Diploma subject specialist at AED 200 to 450, the gap is roughly a hundred and fifty dirhams an hour. What that gap pays for is syllabus-specific judgement: knowing that the data-based section rewards a particular habit, knowing which organic mechanisms recur, knowing what a school's internal investigation deadline usually means in practice. For a student two terms from the examination session, that judgement is worth more than the hourly difference.

The in-home band is the one to look at hardest from Mirdif. Market in-home rates of AED 180 to 500 an hour include travel, and in the eastern suburbs the travel component is real. A parent paying the top of that band for a Chemistry HL specialist to drive from Al Barsha is paying a premium for geography, not for teaching. The same money spent on online delivery buys either more sessions or a better-matched tutor, and the comparison in the next section makes the trade explicit.

Online against a tutor who drives to Mirdif

This is the comparison that decides the question, so it deserves a table rather than a paragraph of advocacy. Set aside the marketing on both sides and compare four things: what you pay, how much of the hour is teaching, how large a pool the tutor is drawn from, and what happens when something changes. In the eastern suburbs, each of those four favours online delivery for a different reason.

On cost, the in-home premium in Dubai is visible in the market bands above: roughly AED 30 to 150 an hour over the online equivalent, and the gap widens the further east you live. On teaching time, a tutor who has driven forty minutes through 4pm traffic arrives with less patience than they left with, and a session that starts at 5:15pm competes with dinner, prayer times and a tired fifteen-year-old. On pool size, the difference is not marginal: online, a Mirdif family chooses from every Chemistry specialist available on the platform rather than from those willing to make the drive.

The fourth point is the one parents raise last and value most. Schedules in Dubai move. Travel, examinations, Ramadan timings, a school trip. An online session can shift to a post-Iftar slot or to a Saturday morning without renegotiating a driving arrangement, and a student abroad for a fortnight can keep the same tutor. What online does not give you is a person in the room, and for some younger students that matters. For a Diploma Chemistry student working on paper technique, it rarely does. To be plain about it: IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE at all, so the choice here is between our online delivery and a local in-home arrangement you would make yourself.

The Diploma Chemistry year counted backwards

Nobody else in this market publishes a calendar, which is odd, because the calendar is what a parent in October actually needs. UAE IB schools sit the May examination session, and the useful way to plan is backwards from it rather than forwards from today. The table below counts back through the milestones that matter for Chemistry specifically, naming who sets each one, because the mistake families make is assuming the IB sets every deadline when in fact the school sets most of the ones that bite.

Two cautions before you use it. First, we do not publish specific IB examination or results dates on these pages. The IB sets the session and publishes its own dates, and your child's Diploma coordinator holds the school's internal versions, which are the ones that govern the investigation. Confirm every date with the coordinator rather than with a tutoring website, including ours. Second, the internal deadlines are the ones that move: a school may pull an investigation draft deadline forward by a month with three weeks' notice, and a student who has not started is then in real trouble.

Read practically, the table says that Chemistry tutoring has two natural entry points. The first is early in DP1, when the investigation question is being chosen and the moles-and-stoichiometry foundation is still fixable cheaply. The second is immediately after the DP2 mock, when there is a marked paper to work from and roughly eight to twelve weeks of usable time. Starting between those points works; starting after the Easter break before the session is a triage exercise, and an honest tutor will tell you which topics are being abandoned.

KHDA, the eastern-suburbs schools, and what an inspection band tells you

Dubai's private schools are overseen by KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. In practice that means annual inspection against a six-band scale running from Outstanding down to Very Weak, published school by school. For a Mirdif parent choosing between schools, or trying to work out whether a Chemistry problem is the student or the provision, those reports are the most useful free document available.

They need reading carefully, though. A school's overall band is an average across phases and subjects, and a strong secondary science department can sit inside a school rated Good, just as a weak one can sit inside a school rated Outstanding. What matters for Chemistry is the secondary science commentary and the attainment and progress judgements for the relevant phase, not the headline word. Mirdif and Al Mizhar families comparing schools across the eastern suburbs should read those sections side by side rather than comparing single words.

Scale is worth knowing too. Dubai's private sector served 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering seventeen different curricula. KHDA's published enrolment shares for that year put the UK curriculum largest at 37 per cent, Indian next at 26 per cent, American at 14 per cent and the International Baccalaureate at 7 per cent. That last share explains the shape of this page. IB families are a minority in a very large market, so IB-specific teaching capacity is concentrated rather than spread, and a neighbourhood without an IB continuum school will not have IB Chemistry teachers living in it in any number.

One more thing to be clear about. IB Gram is not KHDA approved, ADEK approved or licensed by any UAE education authority, and neither is any individual tutor in the sense that phrase implies. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai. Any tutoring service telling you its tutors are KHDA approved is either describing something else or saying something untrue, and that is worth testing before you pay anyone.

08

Academic honesty and the Chemistry investigation: the line, drawn

The scientific investigation is a fifth of the Chemistry grade and the single most common place where tutoring crosses a line it should not cross. At least one operator ranking for these queries sells completed Internal Assessments outright. That is not a grey area. Submitting work that is not your own is academic misconduct under IB rules, and the consequence falls on the student, who can lose the Diploma, not on the website that sold it.

So here is what a tutor may do. They may help the student understand the assessment criteria. They may question a research question until it becomes measurable. They may point out that a planned method will generate four data points when the analysis needs more. They may read a draft the student has written and say where the evaluation is thin, where the uncertainty treatment is missing, and where a claim outruns the data. They may teach the chemistry the investigation depends on, and they may teach how to write a scientific evaluation in general terms.

And here is what a tutor may not do. They may not choose the research question. They may not supply a method. They may not provide or invent data. They may not write, rewrite or edit the student's text into its final form. They may not supply a worked example so close to the student's investigation that copying it is the obvious next step. We state these boundaries to the student directly in the first session, because a fifteen-year-old under deadline pressure is entitled to know where the line is before they are standing on it.

The same applies to the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay for students taking Chemistry as part of the full Diploma. We also do not reproduce or distribute IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables. We reference them and link to the official source, which is both the lawful position and the more useful one, since the official version is the current version.

09

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies alongside Diploma Chemistry

Something that catches families new to Dubai: the mandatory UAE subjects run alongside the Diploma, not instead of it. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and its requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. For a Chemistry HL student in Mirdif, that is real timetable pressure in a year that is already full.

The rules are more specific than most parents realise. KHDA requires schools to organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and states that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided total weekly time is met, and it is advised that any mandatory-subject lesson runs at least twenty-five minutes.

Two practical consequences for a Chemistry tutoring plan. First, the mandatory subjects occupy periods that in another country might be free study, so the evening is doing more work than you think and a ninety-minute weekly session may be better than two sixties. Second, KHDA requires that teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects, which is a credential question worth asking of a school rather than of a tutoring service. For the mandatory subjects, KHDA also states that the use of different or additional content without prior Ministry of Education permission is prohibited, so tutoring in those subjects is a narrower activity than tutoring in Chemistry.

10

Getting started from Mirdif, including what happens if nobody is free

The process is short and the first step costs nothing. You tell us the board, the subject, the level and the problem as the school has described it, and then you add the detail that actually helps: the mock grade, which topics the student says they hate, and what time the school day ends. From a Mirdif address that last point does real work, because it sets the window a session can occupy without competing with the drive home.

We then propose a tutor and run a free trial lesson. The trial is a diagnosis, not a sales call. The tutor should finish it able to tell you which of the loss patterns from earlier on this page apply to your child, and you should finish it knowing whether your child will talk to this person for an hour a week. If the answer is no, we propose someone else. A match that the student tolerates rather than respects does not survive the second term.

Now the honest part, which most of this market leaves out. Diploma Chemistry specialists are a limited resource and sometimes the right one is not available at the time you want. When that happens we say so rather than substituting a general science tutor and hoping. Usually the resolution is a different slot, occasionally a different week, and sometimes a tutor based outside the UAE teaching the same syllabus to Gulf Standard Time. What we do not do is put a Biology graduate in front of a Chemistry HL student because the diary was tidier that way.

Where we tutor

Mirdif and the neighbourhoods either side of it

This page argues that the answer is the same across the eastern suburbs, so here is the evidence area by area. Each of these communities sends children to an overlapping set of schools, sits a similar distance from Dubai's IB teaching concentration, and faces the same 4pm problem with an in-home tutor.

Mirdif

Villas and low-rise flats around Mirdif City Centre, popular with families who want space without a Downtown commute. School runs scatter across the eastern suburbs, so a 4pm start is realistic only if nobody is driving.

Al Warqa

Immediately south-east of Mirdif across Algeria Street. Heavily Indian and Arab family housing, with several large CBSE and British-curriculum schools inside the community itself. The Diploma Chemistry pool is no deeper here.

Al Mizhar

Quieter villa districts north of Mirdif with a short run to Al Khawaneej. Families here often choose schools in Mirdif or Dubai Festival City, which puts the end of the school day between 2:45pm and 3:30pm.

Al Khawaneej

The furthest out of the cluster and the one where an in-home tutor's travel premium bites hardest. Parents here were the first in the eastern suburbs to move science tuition online, for straightforward reasons.

Al Rashidiya

Older, denser housing near the airport and the Metro, with a faster run into Deira and Dubai Festival City than Mirdif has. Being closer to town changes the drive, not the number of Chemistry HL specialists.

Nad Al Hamar

Between Al Rashidiya and Al Warqa, mostly villa compounds. Families combine schools in Dubai Festival City with Mirdif options, and evening traffic on the Ras Al Khor road sets the earliest workable session time.

Dubai Festival City

Home to the cluster's best-known IB Diploma provision and a magnet for Mirdif and Al Mizhar enrolments. The commute means a Mirdif student taking Chemistry here may not be home before 4pm on a normal day.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

South of Al Warqa, with British-curriculum and university provision alongside each other. Useful context for Mirdif parents, because this is where several of the cluster's A Level alternatives to the Diploma sit.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Mirdif

Mirdif, Al Mizhar and Al Warqa

The schools immediately around Mirdif cover an IB continuum, British curriculum to IGCSE and A Level, American and Indian provision, all within a short drive. That mix is why a Mirdif Chemistry student's syllabus cannot be assumed from their address and has to be asked about in the first lesson.

  • Uptown International School
  • Star International School Mirdif
  • GEMS Royal Dubai School
  • Al Mizhar American Academy
  • Our Own English High School, Al Warqa
  • The Aquila School

Dubai Festival City, Al Garhoud and Academic City

The schools Mirdif and Al Mizhar families drive to when they want Diploma provision or an established A Level route. Several run IGCSE at 16 before splitting into the Diploma or A Levels, which is the decision point where Chemistry questions start.

  • Deira International School
  • Universal American School
  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Dubai Scholars Private School

Schools are named here as context for the eastern-suburbs education market; IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any of them, and current curricula and inspection outcomes should be checked on KHDA's own school listings.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the syllabus, not just the subject

Chemistry HL and Chemistry SL are different jobs, and a student arriving from MYP Sciences needs different first lessons from one arriving from IGCSE. Send the school, the level, the mock grade and the topics the student names as weak. It takes two minutes and it changes who we propose.

  2. 02

We match on the course, not the commute

Because lessons are online, the shortlist is drawn from every Chemistry specialist available rather than from those willing to drive to the eastern suburbs. We tell you who the tutor is, what they teach and why they fit this particular gap before any lesson is booked.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson as a diagnosis

The first session is free and its job is to find the problem. The tutor works through a piece of the student's own marked work and reports back on what is actually losing marks. If the match is wrong, say so and we propose someone else; nothing is booked on the strength of one hopeful conversation.

  4. 04

Fix the session time around the school run

Mirdif school days end anywhere between 2:45pm and 3:30pm, and the drive home from Dubai Festival City or Academic City can take a chunk out of the afternoon. We set a slot that works in term time and revisit it for Ramadan, examination weeks and travel rather than assuming it holds all year.

  5. 05

Work between sessions, reviewed in the next one

Each session ends with a named piece of practice, usually past-paper questions on the topic just covered. The following session starts with that work marked against the published criteria. This is the part that converts attendance into a grade change, and it is the part students skip.

  6. 06

Review against the calendar, not the clock

Every few weeks we check the plan against where the student is in the Diploma year: investigation deadline, mock, final revision block. The plan changes when the calendar changes, and a block that has done its job ends rather than renewing by default.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The pool is the point

A Mirdif family working with a local in-home tutor chooses from those who will drive east at 4pm. Online, the choice is every Chemistry HL and SL specialist available. That is the entire argument of this page, and it holds identically in Al Warqa, Al Mizhar and Al Khawaneej.

AED figures published, with sources

Most pages in this market quote nothing or quote US dollars. We publish the Dubai market bands in dirhams with the provider that published each one named and the month we read it. Those are market rates, not our price list; our own pricing follows the free trial.

Mark schemes before motivation

Encouragement is not a method. Our tutors start from the student's marked paper, name the loss pattern, and work on it. Command terms, significant figures and mechanism arrows are unglamorous and they are where a 5 becomes a 6.

The investigation line is stated, not implied

A fifth of the Chemistry grade is the student's own practical work, and we tell the student in the first session exactly what we will and will not do with it. Teaching, questioning and feedback on their own draft; never writing, never data, never a method handed over.

No regulator borrowed for credibility

We explain what KHDA does and link to its own material. We do not describe IB Gram or any tutor as KHDA approved, ADEK approved or IB accredited, because none of those things is true of us and the phrase is the most common untruth in this market.

Availability told straight

When the right Chemistry specialist is not free at the time you want, we say so and offer a real alternative rather than a nearby substitute. A general science tutor in front of a Chemistry HL student wastes a term, and the term is the one thing nobody gets back.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Mirdif: your questions answered

Is there actually an IB Chemistry tutor in Mirdif, or will my child be taught from somewhere else?+

Taught from somewhere else, and that is deliberate. Diploma Chemistry specialists in Dubai are clustered around the schools that employ them, which are mostly in the western and central districts rather than the eastern suburbs. Rather than offering whoever is willing to drive to Mirdif, we match your child to a tutor who teaches the Chemistry course they are sitting and deliver the lesson one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. The practical gain is a specialist instead of a generalist, and a session that can start at four rather than a quarter to five.

Would I find a better Chemistry tutor if I searched in Al Warqa or Al Mizhar instead?+

No, and this is the most useful thing on this page. The communities ringing Mirdif draw on the same small supply of IB Diploma Chemistry teachers, because those teachers live near the IB schools that employ them. Moving your search one neighbourhood east or north changes the drive time by five to fifteen minutes and changes the number of available specialists by approximately zero. Al Khawaneej is marginally worse served and Al Rashidiya marginally closer to town, and neither difference produces a better Chemistry tutor. The axis worth optimising is syllabus knowledge, not distance.

What does IB Chemistry tutoring cost per hour in Dubai?+

Market rates, read in October 2026, run roughly as follows. Budget online tutors, usually university students, advertise from AED 45 to 150 an hour. Qualified subject tutors working online sit around AED 150 to 300. IB and IGCSE specialists run AED 200 to 450 and above. In-home one-to-one sits at AED 180 to 500 because the figure includes travel. Those are other providers' published figures, each attributed in the rate table on this page, not IB Gram's prices. Our own pricing follows a free trial lesson and depends on how many sessions the student genuinely needs.

How is IB Chemistry weighted between the papers and the investigation?+

Paper 1 carries 36% of the grade and splits into a multiple-choice section and a data-based section. Paper 2 carries 44% and holds the structured and extended-response questions. The scientific investigation, the student's own independent practical work, carries the remaining 20%. The distribution matters for planning because it shows that analysis and practical work together are worth more than half the grade. A revision plan built only on content recall is aimed at the smaller part of the paper, which is why we start from a marked mock rather than from the first chapter of the textbook.

Is IB Chemistry at Higher Level much harder than Standard Level?+

It is deeper rather than simply longer, and the difference students feel first is stamina. The Higher Level syllabus extends most topics and the papers run longer, so a student who could hold concentration for a Standard Level paper finds the back end of a Higher Level one expensive. Content-wise, the extra depth bites hardest in energetics, equilibrium and organic chemistry. In our experience, students arriving from MYP Sciences have the conceptual grounding and lack examination pacing, which only improves by sitting whole papers under timed conditions rather than by doing more topic questions.

Where exactly is the line on help with the Chemistry scientific investigation?+

Yes, within clear limits we state to the student in the first session. A tutor can explain the assessment criteria, push a research question until it is narrow enough to measure at school, point out that a method will not generate enough data to analyse, teach the chemistry involved, and give written feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor cannot choose the question, supply the method, provide data, or write or edit the text into its final form. Submitting work that is not the student's own is academic misconduct under IB rules and the student bears the consequence.

My child says organic chemistry is impossible. Is that fixable before the exams?+

Usually, because the problem is rarely the concepts. Marks in organic chemistry sit in the detail of mechanisms: where the arrow starts, whether lone pairs are shown, whether formal charges are marked. A student who draws the right product by the wrong route still loses most of the available marks, and nobody has told them that. Six to eight focused sessions on mechanism conventions, with past-paper questions marked against the published criteria between sessions, moves this reliably. It is procedural work, which is why it responds to practice faster than, say, entropy does.

What time can a Chemistry session realistically start in Mirdif on a school day?+

Online, four o'clock works for most families. Eastern-suburbs school days typically end between 2:45pm and 3:30pm, and if the school is in Mirdif itself the student is home shortly after. If the school is in Dubai Festival City or Academic City, add the drive. With an in-home tutor coming from Dubai's IB-heavy districts, a realistic start is closer to a quarter to five in Mirdif and a quarter past five in Al Khawaneej, because the tutor is in the same 4pm traffic. That forty-five minutes is the difference between an alert student and a tired one.

Which schools around Mirdif offer IB Diploma Chemistry?+

The eastern suburbs mix curricula, so this needs checking school by school rather than assuming. Uptown International School runs an IB continuum in Mirdif itself, and Deira International School in Dubai Festival City is the best-known Diploma provider that Mirdif and Al Mizhar families drive to. Several neighbouring schools run IGCSE to sixteen and then offer A Levels rather than the Diploma. KHDA publishes current curricula and inspection outcomes for every Dubai private school on its own site, and that listing rather than any tutoring website is where to confirm what a school offers this year.

Are your tutors KHDA approved?+

No, and nobody honest will tell you theirs are. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence issued to training institutes operating premises in Dubai, and IB Gram does not hold one or claim one. Individual private tutors in the UAE need a different thing: a private tuition work permit from MoHRE, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. If a service advertises KHDA-approved tutors, ask which permit and which number. In this market that phrase is usually either confused or untrue.

Does a private tutor in Dubai need a permit, and should I check?+

Yes to both. Private tutoring in the UAE is permit-regulated: MoHRE issues a private tuition work permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Those tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published. Applications go through MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service. Asking a prospective tutor directly is reasonable and a permitted tutor will not mind.

Can my child keep the same Chemistry tutor during Ramadan and when we travel?+

Yes, and this is one of the clearer advantages of online delivery. During Ramadan sessions commonly move to a post-Iftar slot, which works because there is no journey to renegotiate at either end. When a family travels, the lesson follows the student rather than the address, so a fortnight in Europe or India does not cost a fortnight of Chemistry. The one thing worth agreeing in advance is the time zone the session is pinned to, so that a student abroad is not sitting a Chemistry lesson at six in the morning.

My child's mock Chemistry grade was a 4 and the exams are two terms away. Is that recoverable?+

Two terms is a workable amount of time, and a 4 usually hides two or three specific losses rather than a general failure. The first session should be spent marking the mock with the student, question by question, to find whether the problem is calculation speed, command-term reading, mechanism detail or the data-based section. From there, a weekly session with marked practice between sessions is the normal plan. Nobody can promise a grade, and anyone who does is selling something. What is reasonable to expect is a clear list of what is costing marks, within one lesson.

What happens if no Chemistry specialist is free at the time we want?+

We tell you, which is not the market norm. Diploma Chemistry teaching capacity is genuinely limited, and when the right tutor's diary is full the options are a different slot, a short wait, or a tutor based outside the UAE who teaches the same syllabus and works to Gulf Standard Time. We will not put a general science tutor in front of a Chemistry Higher Level student to keep a booking. If none of the alternatives suits, we say so and you have lost nothing but an email, since the trial lesson is free and comes first.

Do IB Chemistry students in the UAE sit the May session or November?+

UAE IB schools overwhelmingly sit the May session, which fits an academic year running from late August or early September. A November session exists and is used in parts of the world where the school year runs the other way round, and occasionally by individual candidates. We do not publish specific IB examination or results dates on these pages, because the IB holds those and we will not have a parent act on a date from a tutoring site. Your child's Diploma coordinator has the school's version of the calendar, including the internal investigation deadlines that matter most.

How many Chemistry sessions a week does a Mirdif Diploma student usually need?+

Most families start with one session a week and that is usually right. One well-used hour, with marked practice between sessions, repairs topic gaps steadily and leaves the student time for the other five subjects. Two or three sessions a week makes sense in a defined block: six to ten weeks before the examination session, or a short period around the scientific investigation. Open-ended twice-weekly tutoring across two years tends to produce dependence rather than independence, and it is also the version that costs the most for the least.

Start with a free trial lesson, from Mirdif or anywhere east of it

The comparison on this page points one way. Whether you live in Mirdif, Al Warqa, Al Mizhar or Al Khawaneej, the number of IB Diploma Chemistry specialists who will drive to your door is small, and it is the same small number in each case. Choosing the tutor on syllabus knowledge instead of distance costs nothing extra and changes the lesson materially. Tell us the level, the mock grade and the topics your child names as weak, and we will propose a Chemistry tutor and run the first session free. If the match is wrong, say so and we will propose someone else.
