IB Physics Tutor in Mirdif

Most families searching for an IB physics tutor in Mirdif are comparing the wrong two things - this suburb against Al Mizhar or Al Warqa - when the comparison that decides the outcome is whether the problem is physics or mathematics. A student who understands fields and loses every calculation does not need more physics. This page shows how to tell, then gives the syllabus detail to test a tutor with. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Mirdif

Compare physics against maths, not Mirdif against Al Mizhar

There is a comparison every eastern-suburb family makes and it is the wrong one. Looking for an IB physics tutor in Mirdif, finding thin results, then trying Al Mizhar, Al Warqa and Al Khawaneej in turn - as though the next neighbourhood holds a Diploma physicist who has simply not been found. It does not, and the reason is structural rather than local: the IB accounts for 7% of Dubai private-school enrolment across 227 private schools offering 17 curricula, so Diploma physics teachers are scarce in every part of the emirate including the western school belt.

The comparison that actually changes outcomes is internal to the subject. Physics at Diploma level is taught in two languages at once: the physics and the mathematics that expresses it. A very large share of students who appear to be failing physics are failing the algebra inside it - rearranging a formula under time pressure, handling indices and standard form, converting units, taking a gradient from a graph. Their physics is fine. Their arithmetic is costing them a mark a question, which is a grade across a paper.

Those two problems look identical on a report and completely different on a marked script. The physics problem shows as a question not attempted, or an explanation that describes rather than explains. The maths problem shows as a correct formula, a correct substitution, and then a wrong value - or a question abandoned two lines in. Hiring a physics specialist to fix an algebra problem is the most common misdirected spend in this subject, and it is expensive because physics specialists sit at the top of the Dubai rate card.

Mirdif has one further comparison worth dismissing explicitly, because it comes up here and nowhere else in Dubai. Dubai Silicon Oasis and Dubai International Academic City are a short drive south-east, full of engineers, technologists and university physics teaching. None of that is IB Diploma physics. The Diploma has HL-only content, an internally assessed investigation marked against published criteria, command terms that carry mark-scheme consequences, and an uncertainty treatment that costs strong candidates a whole band. Somebody who uses physics professionally may know the subject perfectly and have never seen a criterion descriptor.

So this page gives you the diagnostic, the syllabus detail to test a tutor with, and the Dubai market in AED with every figure attributed. Named IB specialists are quoted AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table showing 200-450+; a qualified subject tutor online is AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IB tuition from AED 200; in-home visits are quoted AED 180-350 by Bestimate and up to AED 500 independently.

On delivery, plainly: IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE - home visits are a service we run only in India. For a Mirdif, Al Warqa or Al Mizhar family, lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, which is how a scarce subject at a specific level becomes reachable from the eastern suburbs at all.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

A Mirdif physics enquiry can sit at several points in the continuum, and the useful work differs sharply between them.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Physics

Available at Higher and Standard Level, with written papers plus the internally assessed scientific investigation, marked on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Higher Level adds content and depth, and its extended-response questions reward command-term discipline as much as content knowledge. Uncertainty treatment appears in both the papers and the investigation.

The bulk of Mirdif physics enquiries, usually prompted by the first substantial Year 12 assessment. The pattern repeats whichever eastern suburb the family lives in: a student who did well in IGCSE physics meets Higher Level and finds that the mathematics has stopped being incidental.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

MYP Sciences into Physics

Integrated sciences before the subjects separate, assessed against four criteria scored 0-8: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. Inquiring and designing and processing and evaluating are the skills the Diploma investigation assumes, introduced several years earlier and at a lower rate tier.

Where a Mirdif family can prevent the Year 12 problem entirely, and at mid-market rather than specialist prices. Uncertainty handling and method design with controlled variables are both introduced here and both assumed later, which makes this the cheapest effective physics spending in the whole pathway.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Physics as the foundation

Cambridge 0625, tiered Core and Extended, or Pearson 4PH1 as a single tier. Electricity and waves absorb most lost marks at this level, and the failure is usually arithmetic rather than conceptual. The step up to Diploma physics is built on exactly the algebraic fluency the IGCSE only begins to demand.

Relevant because most of the local teaching experience in the eastern suburbs sits at this level and in other curricula. That is genuinely useful for Years 10 and 11 and insufficient for Higher Level Diploma work, where the mathematical demand is the difficulty.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme with Physics

CP students take at least two Diploma courses, which may include Physics, assessed exactly as a Diploma student's would be with the same papers and the same investigation. Offered by a small number of UAE schools and frequently confused with the Diploma when post-16 options are being compared.

Worth distinguishing because a CP certificate is not the Diploma, and engineering destinations in particular ask for specific qualifications. For any UAE university, check the Ministry of Education equivalency position directly with the authority rather than relying on a secondary source.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Below, the physics a Mirdif family is actually buying help with, with the mathematics each topic hides and where the marks go.

Mechanics and kinematics

HL and SL

Motion, forces, momentum and energy. Conceptually the most accessible part of the course and the place where algebraic weakness shows first, because almost every question requires rearrangement before anything physical is decided. Marks go on signs, on units left unconverted and on vector directions assumed rather than stated.

Circular motion and gravitation

HL and SL, HL extends

Where Standard Level students most often lose confidence. The physics is a small number of relationships applied carefully, and the difficulty is holding several substitutions in order. HL extends into orbital reasoning and field treatments that reward algebraic comfort rather than extra memorisation.

Thermal physics

HL and SL

Specific heat capacity, latent heat and the gas laws, with calculation-heavy questions that punish unit inconsistency - kelvin against celsius, kilojoules against joules. Explanations lose marks when a particle-level account is replaced by a restatement of the observation.

Waves and oscillations

HL and SL, HL extends

Superposition, standing waves, diffraction and interference, with HL extending into more demanding treatments. Marks go on diagrams drawn without labelled quantities, and on calculations where the period and frequency relationship gets inverted under time pressure.

Electricity and circuits

HL and SL

The most heavily examined area across every level of physics and the one where arithmetic failure is most costly, because circuit questions chain several calculations together and an early slip propagates. A systematic approach to circuit analysis is teachable in two sessions and rarely taught.

Fields and electromagnetic induction

HL and SL, HL extends substantially

Gravitational, electric and magnetic fields treated together, with HL adding depth and more demanding induction problems. Conceptually the hardest part of the course for most students and the place where a specialist is least substitutable, because the reasoning is unfamiliar rather than merely difficult.

Atomic, nuclear and particle physics

HL and SL, HL extends

Decay, binding energy and particle interactions, with HL adding depth. Calculation marks go on standard form and on energy unit conversions; explanation marks go on accounts that name a process without describing the mechanism behind it.

Energy production and transfer

HL and SL

Sankey reasoning, efficiency and the physics of energy sources. Often treated as the easy topic and often a source of lost marks, because efficiency calculations are straightforward and the explanation questions demand precise comparative reasoning rather than general comment.

Uncertainty and error treatment

HL and SL

Absolute, fractional and percentage uncertainty, propagation through calculations, and uncertainty on a gradient. The quiet grade killer: it appears on the written papers and again inside the investigation, and it is rarely taught explicitly in a crowded Year 12 timetable.

Graph and gradient technique

HL and SL

Choosing what to plot to linearise a relationship, taking a gradient from large intervals, reading an intercept and relating both to the physics. Appears in the papers and is central to the investigation, which makes it the most transferable few hours available in the subject.

The scientific investigation

HL and SL

The internally assessed component, marked on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, and banked before the papers. Must be entirely the student's own work; a tutor teaches the method and the uncertainty treatment, marks practice work and comments on the student's own draft.

The algebra inside the physics

Assumed at both levels

Rearrangement, indices, standard form, unit conversion and multi-step substitution under time. Not a physics topic and frequently the actual problem, which is why the first session should diagnose it rather than assume the physics is at fault.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four ways to buy physics support, and the one that fits depends on which of the two underlying problems the marked script reveals.

Weekly one-to-one over live video

A fixed weekly hour with a teacher who has taught Physics at your child's level, on Gulf Standard Time. Screen sharing puts the marked paper, the graph being plotted and the investigation data table in front of both sides, annotated live and kept by the student. No travel inside the rate, which from the eastern suburbs is the largest part of the in-home premium.

  • Matched on Physics at HL or SL, confirmed before the first lesson
  • Graphs plotted and gradients taken on a shared screen
  • Timed to the real arrival home from a Mirdif or westward school run
  • No cross-city drive priced into the hour
  • Identical cost and availability from any eastern suburb

An algebra-inside-physics block

The cheapest effective purchase where the diagnosis points at mathematics rather than physics. Short drilled sessions on rearrangement, indices, standard form, unit conversion and multi-step substitution under time, run frequently rather than at length, because fluency improves with frequency.

  • Diagnosed from a marked physics script, not from a maths test
  • Short frequent sessions rather than long infrequent ones
  • Worked entirely on physics questions, not abstract algebra
  • Mid-market rather than specialist rates, so it costs less per hour

An investigation block

Sessions scoped to the internally assessed investigation: the research question, the method, the uncertainty chain, the gradient treatment and the evaluation. The highest-return block in physics because the mark is banked before the papers, and the one most often bought after the point where it can change anything.

  • Criteria explained with where each band is won and lost
  • Uncertainty propagation taught on the student's own data
  • What to plot, and why, to linearise the relationship
  • Feedback as questions and comments on the student's own draft

A fields and extended-response block

For a student whose arithmetic is sound and whose marks disappear in the hardest conceptual area and in longer written answers. Fields and induction reward unfamiliar reasoning rather than extra content, and extended responses are capped by command-term misreading before the physics is considered.

  • Field reasoning built from a small number of relationships
  • Command terms taught against real mark schemes
  • One long answer rewritten properly rather than ten attempted
  • Placed before the mock round rather than after it

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Mirdif

01

Is it physics or is it maths? The diagnostic

This takes ten minutes with a marked script and it determines everything that follows, including which rate tier you should be paying. The two problems produce different kinds of lost mark, and once you know what to look for the distinction is unmistakable.

A physics problem looks like this: a question left unattempted because the student did not know where to start. An explanation that restates the observation instead of giving a mechanism. A field or induction question where the reasoning direction is wrong. A diagram drawn without the quantities labelled. These are content and reasoning failures, and they need a physics teacher.

A maths problem looks like this: the formula written correctly, the substitution correct, and then a wrong value. A question abandoned two lines in. A unit left unconverted - kelvin against celsius, millimetres against metres, kilojoules against joules. A standard-form slip in a nuclear calculation. A gradient taken from two points that are too close together. These are fluency failures, they are not fixed by more physics, and they cost a mark a question which is a grade across a paper.

The financial consequence is direct. Named IB specialists in Dubai are quoted AED 200-450 an hour and above, while a qualified subject tutor is AED 150-300 - and the algebra work sits comfortably in the lower band. A family who hires a physics specialist to fix an arithmetic problem pays the premium and sees no movement, because the specialism is not being used. A tutor who reads the script and says so is reducing your bill rather than protecting it, which is the single most useful signal available in a first conversation.

Why the engineers next door do not solve this

  • Professional and university physics is not Diploma physics teaching
  • The Diploma adds criterion-marked internal assessment, command terms and HL-only content
  • An expert's solution route is often not the route the mark scheme credits
  • Test by asking for the investigation criteria and the HL additions
  • Not one researched competitor page names a single IB criterion

Mirdif sits a short drive from Dubai Silicon Oasis and Dubai International Academic City, which between them hold a technology free zone and a cluster of university campuses teaching engineering and the physical sciences. Eastern-suburb families notice this and reasonably conclude that physics expertise must be abundant nearby. The physics is abundant. The Diploma teaching is not, and the difference is specific enough to be worth setting out.

The Diploma has four things that professional or higher-education physics experience does not supply. Grades run 1-7 with no intuitive mapping onto other systems. Every subject carries an internally assessed investigation marked against criteria - research design, data analysis, conclusion, evaluation - with published descriptors. Command terms are specified and mark schemes act on them, so explain, describe, outline and deduce ask for different things and answering the wrong one caps the response. And Higher Level content differs from Standard Level in ways a non-teacher cannot be expected to know.

There is also a subtler mismatch. Somebody who uses physics professionally solves problems with the tools they prefer and often with software. A Diploma student solves them under timed conditions, by hand, with a specified data booklet and a mark scheme awarding method credit in particular places. Expert knowledge sometimes makes that harder to teach, not easier, because the expert's route is not the route the marks follow.

None of which is an argument against hiring somebody with a strong physics background - it is an argument for testing. Ask them to name the investigation criteria. Ask what Higher Level adds to the fields topic. Ask where uncertainty treatment costs a band. Across the entire competitor corpus researched for this market, not one page names a single IB assessment criterion, which tells you how rarely this knowledge accompanies physics knowledge.

03

What Higher Level physics adds

Parents are often told Higher Level is Standard Level with more topics, which understates it in a particular way. Higher Level physics adds depth where the mathematics gets harder, and it adds reasoning in the areas students already find least intuitive. The additions are not evenly distributed across the course, which matters for planning.

Fields and electromagnetic induction take the largest share. This is where a Higher Level student meets reasoning that has no Standard Level equivalent in difficulty - relating field strength, potential and energy across gravitational, electric and magnetic cases, and handling induction problems that require tracking several relationships at once. It is also the area where a non-specialist is least able to help, because the difficulty is unfamiliarity rather than volume.

Elsewhere the pattern is mathematical intensification. Circular motion and gravitation gain orbital treatments, waves gain more demanding analysis, and atomic and nuclear physics gain depth in binding energy and particle interaction. A Higher Level student struggling in these is frequently not struggling with physics they have never met - they are struggling with calculations whose Standard Level version they handled, which returns the diagnosis to the question this page opened with.

Confirm the current content and weightings for your child's level with the school or the subject guide rather than with any summary, including this one, because the IB revises syllabuses between cycles and the school holds the version your child is assessed against. The table sets out the shape of the difference so you can hear whether a prospective tutor is describing the course or describing physics in general.

04

The uncertainty chain, and where it costs a whole band

Physics is the subject where uncertainty treatment is most consequential, because it appears twice: on the written papers and inside the internally assessed investigation, which is worth roughly a fifth of the grade and is marked months before the papers are sat. A student who has never been taught it explicitly loses marks in both places, and the loss is invisible on a report because it looks like general weakness.

The chain has distinct links and each has its own failure. Raw uncertainty on a measurement, taken from the instrument rather than guessed. Absolute converted to fractional or percentage. Propagation through addition and subtraction, which behaves differently from multiplication and division. Propagation through a power. Uncertainty on a gradient, taken from the steepest and shallowest plausible lines rather than asserted. Then a final result quoted to a precision the measurements actually support rather than to whatever the calculator produced.

None of it is conceptually difficult, and almost none of it fits into a crowded Year 12 timetable alongside the content. That combination - high consequence, low difficulty, rarely taught - makes it the highest-return few hours available in Diploma physics, and it is the first thing a specialist will ask about when reading an investigation draft.

The boundary on investigation support is absolute and it protects your child. A tutor may explain each criterion, interrogate the research question, teach the uncertainty chain on the student's own data, explain what a specific limitation looks like, mark practice work, and give written questions and comments on a draft the student wrote. A tutor may not write any part of it, rewrite a paragraph to demonstrate register, supply data or edit to completion. One provider in this market sells completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750; the malpractice consequence falls on the student rather than on the seller.

Practical physics when nobody is in the room

  • Apparatus familiarity belongs in the school laboratory; no tutor substitutes for it
  • Variable choice, range, what to plot, gradients and uncertainty all transfer fully
  • A shared screen showing the same data table and graph is a working advantage
  • Evaluation specific to this method is teachable and rarely taught
  • If apparatus time is the real need, ask the school rather than paying a tutor

A straight answer is more useful than a reassurance here. A tutor over live video cannot set up a trolley and light gate with your child, and apparatus familiarity belongs in the school laboratory. Anybody claiming otherwise is overselling, and a family should be sceptical of a provider who does not draw the line themselves.

What transfers completely, and is where almost all the marks sit, is the thinking around the apparatus. Deciding what to vary and what to control. Choosing a range wide enough to show a trend. Deciding what to plot so that the relationship linearises and a gradient means something physical. Recording raw data with uncertainties taken from the instrument. Propagating them. Reading an intercept. Writing an evaluation specific to this method rather than to all methods.

On a shared screen, with the student's own data table and graph open, that work is arguably better than across a kitchen table, because both parties are looking at the same numbers and the same line of best fit. For a physics investigation in particular - where the deliverable is a document containing a graph, a gradient and an uncertainty - that is the natural working environment.

Where a student genuinely needs apparatus time, the honest advice is to ask the school for laboratory access rather than to pay anybody for something they cannot provide. Schools run the practical sessions, that is where the equipment is, and a tutor who says so is giving better value than one who quietly takes the booking.

06

Physics, maths and the engineering destination

  • Engineering routes usually expect Analysis and Approaches alongside physics, often at HL
  • A strong physics grade does not compensate for the wrong maths route
  • Verify every requirement on the university's own published admissions page
  • Grade thresholds behave as cliffs: one grade below can mean ineligible
  • MoE equivalency is a regulatory process, and no IB points figure is published in the sourced guidance

A large share of Higher Level physics students are taking it for a destination rather than an interest, and in the eastern suburbs - with Academic City's engineering provision nearby - that destination is frequently engineering. That changes what the two years should optimise for, and it brings a second subject into the decision.

Competitive engineering, physics and mathematics programmes generally expect Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, often at Higher Level, alongside physics. That is the algebra, calculus and proof route rather than Applications and Interpretation, which is modelling and statistics led. A student who took Applications to protect a grade may find engineering courses closed that nobody mentioned when the choice was made in Year 11 - and the physics grade will not compensate for it.

Requirements are set by each university and change between cycles, so the only source worth acting on is the institution's own published admissions page. Treat grade thresholds as cliffs rather than slopes: a student one grade below a stated requirement may be ineligible rather than disadvantaged, which puts particular weight on the components still open to influence - and reinforces why the investigation, banked months before the papers, should not be left to chance.

On UAE destinations, two cautions. Ministry of Education equivalency is a regulatory process run by the Ministry and the emirate attestation authority, not something any tutoring provider performs, guarantees or accelerates, and tutoring is not required for it. And no IB points threshold for equivalency appears anywhere in the sourced guidance used for this project, so any figure quoted by a tutoring company should be checked on moe.gov.ae or with the attestation authority directly.

07

What it costs, and whether you need two tutors

Every figure here carries the name of whoever published it. Tutopiya advertises from roughly AED 33-52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45-65. A qualified subject tutor online is quoted around AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IB tuition from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. Named IB specialists run AED 200-450 and above, TutorChase at AED 270, with Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table showing 200-450+ and BartyED publishing AED 650. In-home one-to-one visits are quoted at AED 180-350 by Bestimate and up to AED 500 independently.

Now the question this page's diagnostic raises: does a physics problem that is really a maths problem need two tutors? Usually not, and that is the saving. A physics-literate tutor drilling rearrangement, units and standard form on physics questions does both jobs in one hour, and does them better than a separate maths tutor working on abstract algebra - because the context is the thing the student is struggling to hold. Two parallel weekly subscriptions is the default answer and rarely the right one.

Where two are genuinely justified is a student taking Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level and Physics at Higher Level, both with real content problems rather than a shared fluency problem. That is an expensive year by any standard - Bestimate's monthly estimates run AED 1,000-2,000 and above per subject for specialist exam-year work - and it deserves a deliberate decision rather than an accumulation of separate ones.

Two honesty notes. Examiner framing often carries the top of this market: current examiner status should be evidenced before it is charged for, and never presented as access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content. And no IB Gram price appears on this page, because what a block costs depends on level, component and weeks remaining - the free trial lesson and the consultation after it are where a real figure is given. Household context: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for 2026-27, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion.

Permits, boundaries and claims to refuse

  • Ask to see the MoHRE private tuition work permit - free, two years, two working days
  • No fine amounts are published; treat any figure quoted at you as unverified
  • Ask especially where a tutor comes from industry rather than teaching
  • Decline paying your child's own physics teacher for private lessons
  • No individual tutor holds KHDA or IB accreditation, and examiner claims need evidence

Two free checks and a short list to reject. The permit: private tutoring in the UAE is regulated, the MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and individuals offering private tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted at you by anybody.

MoHRE's own service page is "Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing", lists no fees, states a two-working-day completion time, and runs through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Eligible categories include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Because it is free and fast, a working tutor without one has chosen not to have one - which is worth asking about when a tutor has come from a professional or academic background rather than a teaching one.

The second check is the arrangement. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Treat it as press-reported and verify against current policy, but decline the arrangement where your child's own physics teacher is paid privately.

And the claims to refuse. No individual tutor in Dubai is KHDA-approved, because that status does not exist for individuals - KHDA regulates schools and issues an Educational Services Permit to training institutes with premises. Nobody holds IB accreditation as a private tutor. Nobody should be described as an IB examiner without evidence of current status, and examiner status must never be used to imply access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content. No provider should supply IB syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads; those get referenced and linked. IB Gram holds no regulator or board accreditation and operates no premises in the UAE.

09

A first month that answers the question it opened with

  • Session one sorts lost marks into five categories without teaching anything
  • Sessions two and three work on the student's own next piece of work
  • Arithmetic drilled inside real physics questions, in short frequent bursts
  • Session four measures against the school's new mark or criterion band
  • An IGCSE-level algebra gap is cheaper work at a lower rate tier

Four sessions with a shape, and the shape follows the diagnostic. Session one teaches nothing: the marked paper and, if there is one, the investigation feedback are read together, and the lost marks are sorted into arithmetic fluency, content gaps, conceptual reasoning in fields, uncertainty treatment and command-term misreading. Those are five different problems with different teachers and different price tiers, and a plan proposed before any marked work has been read is guesswork.

Sessions two and three attack whichever the diagnosis named, on the student's own next piece of work rather than on a generic exercise. For arithmetic that means drilled rearrangement and unit conversion inside real physics questions, in short bursts rather than whole lessons. For fields it means building the reasoning from a small number of relationships until it holds on an unfamiliar configuration. For an investigation it means the uncertainty chain applied to the data the student actually collected, with the criteria open alongside.

Session four is a measurement rather than a lesson, and the instrument belongs to the school, not to us. Either the next marked physics paper moved or it did not; either the next investigation criterion band moved or it did not. Those are the only two readings that count, which is a distinction a physics student of all people should recognise - a provider reporting progress only against its own internal tests has calibrated the apparatus against itself, and no university will ever see a number from that scale. Mirdif's schools issue the marks; our job is to change them, not to grade our own work.

Then a decision gets made rather than a subscription continuing. Some students need a second block on the other problem. Some need the investigation block and nothing else this term. Some turn out to have an IGCSE-level algebra gap, which is cheaper work at a lower rate tier - and a tutor who says so is reducing the bill. The free trial lesson means the diagnostic session costs nothing, and it works identically from Mirdif, Al Warqa or Al Khawaneej.

When no Higher Level physicist is free

  • Higher Level fields teaching with investigation experience is a narrow pool
  • If the right specialist has no slot at your hour, you are told, with dated options
  • An adjacent specialist may be offered, with the limits of the match stated
  • Tutor location is disclosed rather than hidden behind a local-looking number
  • The trial lesson is where the test questions get asked at no cost

Availability transparency is a gap nobody in this market fills, and for Higher Level physics it is a genuine constraint. Fields and induction teaching combined with investigation marking experience is a narrow population, and in the weeks before the May session the right person may not have a slot at the hour a Mirdif family needs. Several competitors conceal non-UAE delivery behind a local-looking phone number rather than saying anything at all.

What happens here instead is a disclosure and a choice. Where the exact match is unavailable at your preferred time, the options are named: a different hour with the right specialist, a short wait with an actual date attached, or an adjacent specialist - a chemistry or mathematics teacher with strong uncertainty and data-analysis experience taking the investigation work, say - who can address the component you need now, with the limits of the match stated so you can judge.

Because delivery is online the specialist may sit outside the UAE, which is stated rather than disguised. Sessions are scheduled on Gulf Standard Time around the eastern-suburb school run, which varies enormously depending on whether your child attends a school inside Mirdif or travels to Festival City, Silicon Oasis or further west. A family paying specialist rates for a narrow subject is entitled to know exactly what they are buying and from where.

The free trial lesson converts it all from a promise into a check. One lesson at no cost, with the marked paper or the investigation draft on screen. Ask the tutor what Higher Level adds to the fields topic, name the investigation criteria back to you, and say where uncertainty costs a band. If the fit is wrong, nothing is owed and no block has been bought.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Mirdif

The eastern suburbs are where this page's comparison plays out. Here is what each one actually offers a Diploma physics family.

Mirdif

Villa and low-rise family suburb around Mirdif City Centre and Uptown Mirdif, with schools inside the neighbourhood across several curricula including IB provision. The best-provisioned of the eastern suburbs and still thin on Diploma physics.

Al Mizhar

North-east of Mirdif, villa territory with its own school provision. Identical tutoring economics and an identical shortage of Diploma physics teaching, for the same city-wide reason.

Al Warqa

South-west towards Al Rashidiya, dense villa communities with a long-settled population. Nothing in the local pool differs in a way that affects a Higher Level physics family.

Al Khawaneej

North-east beyond Al Mizhar, lower density and furthest out. Longest drives in the radius, which raises in-home quotes and shrinks the pool willing to travel without improving expertise.

Al Rashidiya

West towards the airport and Garhoud, older and best connected by road and metro. Shorter runs to the creek-side schools, and the same supply picture for specialist physics.

Nad Al Hamar

South-west towards Ras Al Khor, quieter and residential, with families commuting outward to school. Same search, same result, same structural reason.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

South-east, mixed residential and technology free zone with its own schools. Full of people who use physics professionally, which is not the same as people who have taught the Diploma course.

Dubai International Academic City

Adjacent to Silicon Oasis and home to university campuses teaching engineering and physical sciences. The sharpest illustration on this page that institutional density is not Diploma teaching capacity.

Dubai Festival City

South-west on the creek with established school provision. A twenty to thirty minute run from most of Mirdif, which shifts the school-run arithmetic without shifting the supply arithmetic.

International City

South of Mirdif, dense and affordable, with families commuting outward. Another eastern suburb running the same search with the same outcome.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Mirdif

Mirdif and Al Mizhar

Schools inside or adjacent to Mirdif across several curricula, including IB provision. Named as market context for understanding which courses eastern-suburb students are sitting; IB Gram has no relationship with any of them.

  • Uptown International School
  • GEMS Royal Dubai School
  • Star International School Mirdif
  • Mirdif American School
  • Al Mizhar American Academy for Girls

Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Schools alongside university campuses at the southern edge of the radius. Listed because the contrast is the point of this page: professional and higher-education physics is not IB Diploma physics teaching. No affiliation implied.

  • GEMS Wellington Academy Silicon Oasis
  • The Indian Academy Dubai
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Dubai Gem Private School

Festival City, Garhoud and the creek side

The nearest established cluster outside the suburbs, reached in twenty to thirty minutes from most of Mirdif. Context only, for planning session times around a real school run.

  • Deira International School
  • Universal American School Dubai
  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai

Schools named above are ecosystem context for planning only: IB Gram is not affiliated with, endorsed by or partnered with any school, group or regulator mentioned on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say HL or SL and name the component

"Physics HL, Year 12, investigation data collected and the uncertainty section not written" can be matched in one message. The level and the component determine whether a specialist or a qualified subject tutor is the right tier, and therefore what the block should cost.

  2. 02

Send the marked paper, not a summary

The script is the diagnostic. Marks lost to arithmetic, to content, to field reasoning, to uncertainty and to command terms look completely different on a page, and they need different teachers. Ten minutes of gathering saves a session of discovery and possibly a whole rate tier.

  3. 03

    Ask for the physics-or-maths verdict

A tutor who reads the script should be able to say which of the two problems they are being hired for, and should say so even when the answer is the cheaper one. That willingness is the most useful signal available in a first conversation.

  4. 04

    Take the free trial lesson

One lesson at no cost with the marked work on screen. Ask what Higher Level adds to fields, ask for the investigation criteria, and ask where uncertainty costs a band. By the end you should have the problem named and an honest number of hours.

  5. 05

Set the slot from the real arrival time

Eastern-suburb school runs vary from a short local hop to a long westward drive, sometimes within one household. The slot is set against the actual arrival on a normal day and then held, and nothing depends on anybody driving to Mirdif at five in the afternoon.

  6. 06

    Review against the school's marking

Progress is judged on the next marked paper and the next criterion band from the school, never on a tutor's internal tests. If it moved, buy the next block. If it did not after a fair run, the diagnosis gets revised rather than repeated at greater volume.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The physics-or-maths question gets answered first

A large share of apparent physics failure is arithmetic fluency, and it needs a different teacher at a lower rate than a fields specialist. Reading the marked script before proposing anything is what prevents a family paying the AED 200-450 specialist band for work the AED 150-300 band covers.

The suburb stops being the variable

Mirdif, Al Mizhar, Al Warqa and Al Khawaneej share the same thin supply of Diploma physicists, because that scarcity is a city-wide fact. Matching on level and component rather than on postcode removes the only variable that was never going to help.

The uncertainty chain is taught, link by link

Raw uncertainty, conversion, propagation by operation and by power, gradient uncertainty, final precision. High consequence, low difficulty and rarely taught in a crowded Year 12 timetable, which makes it the best-value few hours in the subject.

Honest about what video cannot do

No tutor can set up apparatus with your child, and this page says so. Variable choice, range, what to plot, gradients, uncertainty and evaluation all transfer fully to a shared screen, and apparatus time belongs in the school laboratory.

Rates and credentials are sourced

Every AED figure carries its publisher - Tutopiya, EdFlik, Unitors, TutorChase, Bestimate, BartyED. IB exam dates are absent because ibo.org blocks automated checking and none has been verified. Examiner claims are challenged rather than charged for.

Availability stated before you commit

Higher Level fields teaching with investigation experience is scarce before the May session, and where the right specialist has no slot at your hour you are told, with dated options. Lessons are one-to-one over live video; home visits are a service we run only in India.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Mirdif: your questions answered

How do I tell whether my child is failing physics or failing the maths inside it?+

Read the marked script rather than the report. A maths problem shows as the formula written correctly, the substitution correct, and then a wrong value - or a question abandoned two lines in, or a unit left unconverted, or a standard-form slip in a nuclear calculation. A physics problem shows as a question not attempted at all, an explanation that restates the observation instead of giving a mechanism, or field reasoning in the wrong direction. The distinction matters financially: the arithmetic work belongs in the AED 150-300 band, not the AED 200-450 specialist band.

Would searching Al Mizhar or Al Warqa find more IB physics tutors?+

No, and knowing that saves a fortnight. The IB accounts for 7% of Dubai private-school enrolment across 227 private schools offering 17 curricula, so Diploma physics teachers are scarce in every neighbourhood including the western school belt. What changes between eastern suburbs is the drive time, which raises in-home quotes and shrinks the pool willing to travel without widening the expertise available. Matching on level and component rather than on postcode is the move that actually changes the answer.

Can an engineer from Silicon Oasis tutor IB physics?+

The physics, certainly; the assessment, often not. The Diploma runs grades 1-7, carries an internally assessed investigation marked against research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, specifies command terms that mark schemes act on, and has Higher Level content that differs from Standard Level in uneven ways. There is also a subtler mismatch: a professional solves problems with preferred tools and often software, while a Diploma student solves them by hand under time with a specified data booklet. Test by asking for the investigation criteria and what Higher Level adds to fields.

Which part of Higher Level physics is genuinely new rather than deeper?+

Fields and electromagnetic induction. Most Higher Level additions are intensifications - more demanding calculations in mechanics, circular motion, waves and nuclear physics - where a student's difficulty is usually mathematical rather than conceptual. Fields is different: relating field strength, potential and energy across gravitational, electric and magnetic cases, and handling induction problems that require several relationships tracked at once, is reasoning with no Standard Level equivalent. It is also the area where a non-specialist helps least, because the difficulty is unfamiliarity rather than volume.

Why does uncertainty treatment matter so much in physics specifically?+

Because it is marked twice. Uncertainty appears on the written papers and again inside the internally assessed investigation, which is worth roughly a fifth of the grade and is marked months before the papers. The chain has distinct links - raw uncertainty from the instrument, conversion to fractional or percentage, propagation that differs between addition and multiplication, propagation through a power, uncertainty on a gradient from steepest and shallowest plausible lines, and a final precision the measurements support. High consequence, low difficulty, and rarely taught explicitly in a crowded timetable.

Can physics practical work be prepared over video?+

The thinking yes, the apparatus no, and the honest division matters. No tutor can set up a trolley and light gate with your child - apparatus familiarity belongs in the school laboratory. What transfers completely is where almost all the marks sit: deciding what to vary and control, choosing a range that shows a trend, deciding what to plot so the relationship linearises, recording raw data with instrument uncertainties, propagating them, reading a gradient and intercept, and writing an evaluation specific to this method. On a shared screen showing the same graph, that is arguably easier than across a table.

Does IB Gram send a physics tutor to a house in Mirdif?+

No. Home visits are a service we run only in India, and nobody is sent to a UAE address. For a Mirdif, Al Warqa or Al Mizhar family, lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with screen sharing so the marked paper, the graph being plotted and the investigation data table are visible to both sides, and the annotated work stays with the student. For a scarce subject reached from the eastern suburbs, that is the mechanism rather than a compromise - and it removes the longest drive in the city from the price.

Do we need separate tutors for Physics HL and Maths AA HL?+

Usually not, and that is the saving. Where the physics marks are going on arithmetic, a physics-literate tutor drilling rearrangement, units and standard form inside real physics questions does both jobs in one hour, and does them better than a maths tutor working on abstract algebra - because the context is what the student is struggling to hold. Two tutors are justified where both subjects have genuine content problems rather than a shared fluency problem, and that is an expensive year: Bestimate's monthly estimates run AED 1,000-2,000 and above per subject for specialist exam-year work.

What does an IB physics tutor cost in Dubai?+

Market figures with their publishers, not ours. Tutopiya advertises from roughly AED 33-52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45-65. A qualified subject tutor online is quoted around AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IB tuition from AED 200. Named IB specialists run AED 200-450 and above, TutorChase at AED 270, and BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end. In-home visits are quoted AED 180-350 by Bestimate and up to AED 500 independently, and from the eastern suburbs that sits near the top because the drive is longest.

Does my child need Higher Level physics for an engineering degree?+

Frequently, and usually alongside Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level rather than Applications and Interpretation - which is the detail that catches families out, because a strong physics grade does not compensate for the wrong maths route. Competitive engineering, physics and mathematics programmes set their own requirements and change them between cycles, so the only source worth acting on is each university's own published admissions page. Treat thresholds as cliffs rather than slopes: one grade below a stated requirement can mean ineligible rather than disadvantaged.

What may a tutor do with my child's physics investigation?+

They may explain each criterion and what separates one band from the next, interrogate the research question, teach the uncertainty chain on the student's own data, explain what to plot and why, show what a specific limitation looks like, mark practice work, and give written questions and comments on a draft the student wrote. They may not write any part of it, rewrite a paragraph to demonstrate register, supply data or edit to completion. One provider in this market sells completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750; the malpractice consequence falls on the student.

Can a weak investigation be made up for in the written papers?+

No, and that arithmetic should drive the plan. The investigation is internally assessed, worth roughly a fifth of the grade, and completed and marked months before the written session - so the band is banked and travels into the exams with the student. Strong paper performance does not retrieve marks lost there. That is why a short block while the research question is still being chosen is worth more than a larger one spent on a finished draft, and why the uncertainty work should be taught before the data is collected rather than after.

How many physics hours a week can a Diploma student realistically take?+

Usually one protected weekly hour, rising to two during a specific phase such as an investigation block or the weeks after a disappointing mock. More than that competes with five other Diploma subjects, the core, and the practice a tutor sets between lessons, which also has to fit somewhere. A student doing four hours of physics tuition a week is usually a student whose other subjects are about to slip. Buy the phase the diagnosis points at rather than a standing commitment across two years.

Should I pay a premium for a tutor described as an IB examiner?+

Only with evidence, and never for what the title implies. Premium rates in this market reach AED 650, with BartyED publishing that figure, and examiner framing is frequently what justifies it. Current examiner status should be evidenced before it is charged for, and it must never be presented as access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content, because it is not. Ask what the evidence is and what concretely changes in the lesson. A specialist who has taught and marked physics at your child's level is the thing you actually need.

Why does this page carry no IB exam or results dates?+

Because they could not be verified. ibo.org returns an error to automated fetching, so no IB session or results date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself, and handing an unverified date to a parent who will plan around it does real harm. UAE candidates sit the May session, which is a pattern rather than a date. Confirm every specific date with your child's IB coordinator or on ibo.org directly. Cambridge and Pearson dates are sourced from the boards and used elsewhere on this site with their framing intact.

Diagnose the subject, not the postcode

If you are searching for an IB physics tutor in Mirdif and about to widen the circle to Al Mizhar or Al Warqa, the better move is to narrow it instead. Send the level, the component and the last marked script, and ask for a verdict on the question this page opened with: is this physics, or is it the algebra inside the physics? You will get a named tutor who has taught the course at that level, an honest answer about which rate tier your problem needs, and a free trial lesson before any block is agreed. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, timed to your child's real arrival home. Home visits are a service we run only in India.
