IGCSE Science Tutor in Mirdif

An IGCSE science tutor in Mirdif is usually hired to fix one of three things: a Paper 4 theory mark that will not move, an alternative to practical paper nobody has taught properly, or a Core entry that has quietly capped the grade at a C. IB Gram matches Mirdif families with a subject specialist who teaches the exact syllabus the school entered, one to one and live online in Gulf Standard Time. The first lesson is free, diagnostic, and marked against the real mark scheme.

  • Matched to your child's syllabus code, not just to the subject name
  • Live one-to-one video lessons in Gulf Standard Time, evenings and weekends
  • Free first lesson, marked against the published mark scheme
  • Past-paper work from the board your child's school actually entered

IB & IGCSE in Mirdif

What an IGCSE science tutor in Mirdif is actually being asked to fix

A parent in Mirdif rarely searches for an IGCSE science tutor because their child dislikes science. They search because a report has arrived with a number on it that nobody can explain. The predicted grade says 6 and the mock says 4. The teacher's comment says 'needs to apply knowledge more carefully', which is true and also useless as an instruction. Somewhere between what the student knows and what the paper rewards, marks are leaking, and the point of a tutor is to find the leak rather than to teach the whole syllabus again from Chapter 1.

IGCSE science is unusually diagnosable, because the assessment is public. Cambridge publishes the syllabus, the specimen papers and the mark scheme for every component. That means a competent tutor can take a student's own mock script, lay it next to the mark scheme, and tell you in one sitting whether the problem is recall, calculation, command-term reading, practical write-up, or simply running out of time on Paper 4. Those five faults need five different terms of work. Buying generic 'science tuition' for a command-term problem is how families in Mirdif spend AED 4,000 and move a grade by nothing at all.

The second thing a Mirdif parent is often asking without saying it is which syllabus their child is on. Mirdif and the eastern suburbs feed a mixed set of schools: British-curriculum schools entering Cambridge IGCSE, a Taaleem IB school running MYP sciences before the Diploma, and Indian-curriculum schools where a cousin or neighbour is sitting something else entirely. Two Year 11 students on the same street can be sitting Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620 Extended and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry 4CH1, which have different papers, different practical arrangements and different past-paper banks. A tutor who teaches 'IGCSE chemistry' in the abstract will waste the first month working from the wrong specification.

Then there is the Core and Extended question, which is the single most consequential decision in IGCSE science and the one least often explained to parents. A Core entry means the student sits Paper 1 and Paper 3, is not examined on the supplement content, and cannot be awarded a grade above C. That is a ceiling, not a difficulty setting. A student heading for IB Diploma Chemistry or A Level Physics who has been entered on Core has a progression problem that no amount of revision in April will solve, because the grade itself will not go high enough. Finding that out in Year 11 is common. Finding it out in time to ask the exams officer to change the entry is less common.

So this page is written from the subject rather than from the neighbourhood. It sets out the syllabus codes a Mirdif student might be sitting, the weighting of every component, where the mark scheme actually takes marks away, how the practical papers are taught without a school laboratory, and what the local market charges for all of it. Lessons from IB Gram are delivered one to one over live video. We do not send a tutor to a Mirdif address; home visits are a service we run only in India, and the comparison table further down sets out honestly what that choice costs and what it buys.

At a glance

  • Cambridge IGCSE single sciences split 30% multiple choice, 50% theory, 20% practical
  • A Core entry caps the award at grade C regardless of how well the papers are answered
  • Paper 6, the alternative to practical, is a written paper about experiments, not a lab test
  • UAE candidates sit the June and November Cambridge series; the February and March series is offered to India only
  • Edexcel International GCSE sciences assess practical skills inside the written papers instead of a separate practical component
  • Mirdif students sit at least four different science routes depending on which school they attend
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Mirdif families usually arrive at IGCSE science from one of three directions: a British-curriculum school running Cambridge, an IB school where MYP sciences come first, or a transfer from another system mid-Key Stage 4. Each needs a different starting diagnosis.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE Sciences

The route most Mirdif British-curriculum students take. Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625 each run a Core tier and an Extended tier, with three assessed components: a multiple-choice paper, a structured theory paper, and either a live practical test or the written alternative to practical. Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 compresses all three subjects into a double award, and Combined Science 0653 into a single award.

Dubai schools enter candidates through their own Cambridge centre, and the centre sits in one of six administrative timetable zones. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Ask your school's exams officer which zone it sits in before you plan revision around any published date.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Sciences

The other board a Mirdif student may be sitting: Biology 4BI1, Chemistry 4CH1, Physics 4PH1 and Science Double Award 4SD0. The structure is different in a way that matters for revision. There is no separate practical examination; experimental skills are assessed inside the written papers, so a student needs to be able to describe, criticise and improve a method in prose rather than perform it under timed conditions.

Pearson runs International GCSE exams in May and June and again in November. The November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Always work from the live timetable on the Pearson support site rather than a restated date.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

IB Middle Years Programme Sciences

Uptown School in Mirdif runs the Middle Years Programme, so some students in the area meet sciences through MYP criteria rather than an exam board. Assessment is criterion-referenced on a 1-8 scale across knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. The content overlaps IGCSE heavily; the assessment language does not.

An MYP 5 student in Mirdif who transfers to a British-curriculum school for Year 11 arrives with strong investigation skills and no experience of a timed multiple-choice paper. The gap is almost never knowledge. It is pace, command-term convention and the habit of writing to a mark allocation, and it usually takes six to eight weeks of past-paper work to close.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme Sciences

Where a strong IGCSE science student in Mirdif often goes next. DP Biology, Chemistry and Physics run at Standard and Higher Level with a shared internal assessment: a single scientific investigation marked against published criteria. The jump from IGCSE is less about new topics than about uncertainty, error analysis and sustained independent write-up.

If Diploma science is the plan, the IGCSE entry tier decides whether it is available. Schools commonly expect a grade 6 or 7 at IGCSE for Higher Level science, which a Core entry cannot produce. A Mirdif family thinking about the Diploma should settle the Core and Extended question in Year 10, not in the spring of Year 11.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the science components Mirdif students ask for most often, with what each one actually assesses and where the mark scheme takes marks back. A tutor who cannot name the loss point is not diagnosing anything.

Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620

Core and Extended

Moles and stoichiometry carry the calculation load, and electrolysis plus organic chemistry carry the recall load. Extended adds the supplement content that most higher-mark questions sit on. The commonest loss is a correct method with an unbalanced equation underneath it, which takes the method marks away with it.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625

Core and Extended

Electricity is where Mirdif students lose most marks, usually because series and parallel reasoning is memorised as rules instead of understood as current and potential difference. Momentum, moments and the thermal topics reward clean working. Units and prefixes alone account for a steady drip of single marks across Paper 4.

Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610

Core and Extended

Heavier on recall than the other two, which misleads students into thinking it is the easy one. The marks are in precision: transport in plants, the nitrogen cycle and inheritance are all marked on named structures and named processes. A vague answer that is not wrong still scores nothing.

Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences 0654

Double award, Core and Extended

All three sciences in one qualification worth two grades. The content per subject is reduced but the paper is longer and switches discipline without warning, so revision has to be interleaved rather than blocked. Students who revise one science at a time typically underperform on this syllabus.

Cambridge IGCSE Combined Science 0653

Single award, Core and Extended

One grade covering biology, chemistry and physics. Suited to students who need a science qualification rather than a science pathway. Worth checking against progression plans early, because it is rarely accepted as a prerequisite for Higher Level Diploma science or A Level.

Paper 6: Alternative to Practical

All Cambridge science syllabuses

A one-hour written paper about experiments: reading apparatus, tabulating results, plotting, identifying variables, spotting the flaw in a described method. It is teachable entirely online because it is a paper about experimental reasoning, not a test of hands. Most students have never been taught it as a separate skill.

Paper 5: Practical Test

All Cambridge science syllabuses

A timed hour and a quarter at a bench, where marks go to significant figures, sensible axis scales, controlled variables and honest anomalies. Online work cannot replace bench time, but the recording, graphing and evaluation marks are the majority of the paper and they can be drilled from the student's own school practicals.

Pearson Edexcel Chemistry 4CH1

Two written papers

Same chemistry, different examination architecture. Practical skills sit inside the written papers, so a student must be able to criticise a method in writing. The question style is less heavily scaffolded than Cambridge, which rewards students who can structure an answer without being prompted step by step.

Pearson Edexcel Physics 4PH1

Two written papers

Formula handling is more exposed than in Cambridge, with more multi-step calculation inside single questions. Students who are used to being given the rearranged equation lose marks here. The fix is mechanical: rearrange before substituting, every time, and carry units through the working.

MYP Sciences, criteria A to D

MYP 1-5

Knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on impacts, each marked out of 8. Criterion B and C work is where most of the marks and most of the deadline pressure sit, and both are assessed on the student's own design decisions rather than on the result they got.

Maths skills inside science

IGCSE and MYP

Standard form, significant figures, rearranging, gradients from graphs and percentage change. A surprising share of lost science marks are arithmetic, not science. Diagnosing this early stops a family paying for chemistry lessons to fix a maths problem.

Exam technique for science papers

Years 10-11

Command-term reading, mark-allocation budgeting, and the discipline of answering the question asked rather than the question revised. State, describe, explain, suggest, calculate, determine and compare each have a defined expectation, and treating them as synonyms is the single most common cause of a predicted 7 becoming an actual 5.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover almost every IGCSE science request from Mirdif. All of them are delivered over live video with a shared screen, a visualiser for working, and the student's own past-paper scripts open in front of both people.

Weekly one-to-one, single science

The standard shape for a Year 10 or early Year 11 student with one problem subject. Sixty or ninety minutes a week, built around the syllabus content the school is currently teaching plus a running thread of past-paper questions on topics already covered. Progress is measured in marks recovered on specific question types, not in topics covered.

  • Diagnostic first lesson on the student's own mock script
  • Weekly slot held in Gulf Standard Time, evenings or weekend mornings
  • Past-paper questions chosen by loss pattern, not by chapter order
  • Short written note after each session naming what to practise

Triple-science block before the papers

For a Year 11 sitting Biology, Chemistry and Physics with a fixed number of weeks left. Sessions rotate across the three sciences on a planned cycle so that no subject goes more than a fortnight without attention, and the rotation is weighted towards whichever paper is furthest from target rather than split evenly.

  • One tutor where a single specialist can cover two or three sciences credibly
  • Rotation weighted by current mark gap, reviewed every three weeks
  • Paper 6 technique taught once and then revisited across all three subjects
  • Timed sections under exam conditions from the halfway point onward

Practical and Paper 6 intensive

A short focused block on the component most schools teach last and least. Reading apparatus, tabulating with consistent significant figures, choosing axis scales, identifying independent, dependent and controlled variables, and writing the improvement that an examiner will actually credit. Four to six sessions is usually enough to move this paper materially.

  • Built from the student's own school practical write-ups
  • Graph work marked to the published tolerance rather than by eye
  • Method criticism drilled as a sentence pattern, not as general advice
  • Equally useful to Edexcel candidates, where this reasoning sits inside the written papers

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Mirdif

01

The science routes a Mirdif student could be on, and why it decides everything else

Before any tutoring starts, one question has to be answered precisely: which syllabus, which tier, which board. In Mirdif this is not a formality. A single Year 11 cohort in the eastern suburbs will contain students sitting three separate Cambridge sciences, students sitting Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 as a double award, students on Pearson Edexcel International GCSE papers, and students finishing MYP 5 who will not sit an external science paper at all. The revision material, the past-paper bank and the practical arrangements differ in each case.

The answer is on the student's statement of entry, which the school issues before the series, and the exams officer can confirm it sooner. Ask for the syllabus code, not the subject name. Chemistry 0620 and Chemistry 4CH1 are both called IGCSE Chemistry in conversation and are different examinations. A tutor who starts work without that code is guessing, and the guess is usually Cambridge because it is more common, which leaves Edexcel students doing the wrong style of question for a month.

Tier matters as much as board. The table below sets out the papers each Cambridge route actually sits and what grades the route can award. Read the last column first. A Core entry is not an easier version of the same qualification; it is a different qualification with a lower ceiling, and that ceiling is set by the entry, not by the student's performance. So the first job in any Mirdif enquiry is to establish the route and the tier from the school in writing, because a term of well-planned work aimed at the wrong ceiling still ends at that ceiling.

Component weightings, and the specific place each paper takes marks back

The three-component split is the most useful number in IGCSE science and the least known among parents. On the Cambridge single sciences, the multiple-choice paper carries 30 per cent of the grade, the structured theory paper carries 50 per cent, and the practical component carries 20 per cent. A student revising only content is optimising the 50 per cent and ignoring half of the rest.

That arithmetic changes what a term of tuition should contain. A student two grades short on theory needs structured-question drilling. A student whose theory is fine and whose overall mark is still short is almost always losing it on the multiple-choice paper through careless elimination, or on the practical paper because nobody taught it. Twenty per cent of a grade is roughly a grade and a half of movement on its own, and it is the cheapest 20 per cent in the qualification to improve, because the skills are finite and repeat every series.

The table names where each component loses marks. These are not general observations. They are the faults that recur across scripts: command terms read as invitations to write everything known, significant figures carried inconsistently from a table into a graph, methods described without a control or a repeat, and calculations substituted before rearrangement so that an arithmetic slip takes the whole question down. Each of those faults has a fixed remedy, which is why they are worth naming: the remedy is a habit drilled to the point of boredom rather than a concept explained once and forgotten by the following week.

03

Core or Extended: the decision that sets the ceiling

Every Cambridge science syllabus runs two tiers, and the entry is made by the school. On Core, the student sits Paper 1 and Paper 3, is examined only on the core content, and can be awarded grades C to G. On Extended, the student sits Paper 2 and Paper 4, is examined on the core plus the supplement, and can be awarded A* to E. A student entered on Core who answers every question perfectly receives a C.

This is where Mirdif families most often discover a problem too late. A school may place a student on Core in good faith after a weak Year 10, and nobody connects that decision to a Year 12 plan that assumes a grade 6 in Chemistry for Higher Level Diploma science. By March of Year 11, after the final entry deadline has passed, the conversation is no longer about revision. It is about whether the student resits in the November series or changes their Diploma subject choices.

The practical advice is unglamorous. Ask, in Year 10, which tier each science is entered at and what the school needs to see to move a student up. Supplement content is a finite list, published in the syllabus, and six to ten weeks of focused work on it is often enough to make an Extended entry defensible. The table sets out what the two tiers differ on so that a parent can have that conversation with evidence rather than with worry.

How the practical papers are taught without a school laboratory

Parents reasonably ask how an online IGCSE science tutor can help with a practical component. The honest answer begins by separating the two practical routes. Paper 5 is a live bench test, and nothing delivered over video replaces time with apparatus. Paper 6, the alternative to practical, is a written paper about experiments and is in no sense a test of manual skill. Most Mirdif schools enter candidates for Paper 6.

Even on Paper 5, the majority of available marks are not awarded for handling equipment. They are awarded for recording readings to a consistent precision, building a results table with correct headings and units, plotting with sensible scales, drawing a line of best fit that respects the data, identifying and commenting on anomalies, and writing an evaluation that names a real limitation and a real improvement. Every one of those is a paper skill and every one can be taught and marked remotely using the student's own school practical sheets.

The method is simple and repeatable. The student brings the write-up from the practical their school ran that week. The tutor marks it against the published criteria, shows which marks were available and not taken, and then hands over a past-paper question on the same apparatus. Over six sessions the student stops producing a description of what happened and starts producing a document an examiner can award marks to. For Edexcel candidates the same reasoning is worth more, because it is assessed inside the written papers rather than quarantined in one component.

05

Command terms: the cheapest marks in IGCSE science to recover

  • State, describe and explain are three different instructions, not three registers of the same one
  • A suggest question is deliberately unfamiliar; the content is not missing from revision
  • Mark allocation tells you how many separate points the examiner is counting
  • Units and significant figures are marked separately from the method on calculation questions

If one change moves an IGCSE science grade faster than any other, it is teaching the student to read the command term and answer that term only. State means give a fact with no reasoning. Describe means say what happens, in order, without explaining why. Explain means give a cause, and an answer with no causal link scores nothing however correct it is. Suggest means apply known science to an unfamiliar situation and will not be in any revision guide. Calculate requires working. Determine usually requires reading a value off something first. Compare requires both sides in the same sentence.

Students who have never had this taught treat all seven as a general instruction to write what they know about the topic. Examiners do not reward that, and the student experiences the result as unfairness, which makes it worse because effort stops feeling connected to outcome. Showing a student two of their own answers, one that scored and one that did not, usually fixes the misunderstanding in a single session. Making the habit stick takes a term of marked practice.

The second half of the same skill is mark budgeting. A four-mark question wants four distinct creditable points, not one point expressed four ways. A two-mark calculation wants the working and the answer with a unit. Teaching a student to glance at the mark allocation before writing is unexciting and recovers a steady stream of marks across every paper in the series, which is exactly the kind of gain that shows up in a mock score three weeks later.

06

Sequencing a term of past-paper work, rather than doing papers at random

  • Topic-level questions first, whole papers later, timed papers last
  • Never sit a paper on content the school has not yet taught
  • Every marked paper ends with three named loss points and a plan for each
  • Keep two unseen whole papers in reserve for the final fortnight

Most families already know that past papers matter. Fewer know that doing them in the wrong order wastes them. There is a finite bank of Cambridge past papers for each syllabus, and a student who burns through whole papers in October on content the school has not taught yet learns mostly that they cannot do it. By March, when the papers would be diagnostic, the bank is used up and every question is half-remembered.

The sequence that works in a Mirdif Year 11 runs in three phases. Until the Christmas break, questions are drawn by topic from papers, not whole papers, and only on content already taught, so each one is a fair test. From January, whole sections are attempted under time to build pace, with the practical component drilled as its own strand. From the mock results onward, whole papers under full exam conditions, marked by the tutor against the mark scheme with a written loss analysis each time.

The loss analysis is the part that converts practice into movement. Every marked paper produces a short list: three question types that cost marks, with the specific reason. The next two sessions attack that list. Then another paper. A student who repeats this cycle five or six times before the June series arrives at the examination with a known, shrinking list of weaknesses rather than a vague sense that there is a lot of chemistry. It also gives a parent something checkable. Ask to see the latest loss analysis rather than asking whether the lessons are going well, because the list is evidence and the answer to the question is only an opinion.

What IGCSE science tuition in Mirdif costs, and what the figures mean

Start from the cheapest end, because that is where most Mirdif searches begin. Online lessons from university-student tutors are advertised in Dubai from around AED 45 to 150 an hour; EdFlik lists rates from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, both published on their own sites and read in October 2026. At that price a tutor can supervise homework and keep a student company through revision. What that tier generally cannot do is mark a Paper 4 script against the published scheme and name the three question types costing a grade, because that requires someone who has taught the specification.

One step up, a qualified subject tutor working online is quoted in the AED 150 to 300 band, with Unitors publishing IGCSE rates from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Named IGCSE and Diploma specialists sit at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and the Bestimate Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table putting specialists at AED 200 to 450 plus. A premium named tier exists above that, where BartyED publishes AED 650. All of these are other providers' published prices, quoted with their source and date; they are the market, not an IB Gram price list.

The in-home column is the one worth reading carefully on a Mirdif page, because Mirdif is a long drive from most of Dubai's tutor supply. Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors are quoted at AED 200 to 500, with monthly packages seen at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits against AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. The difference is travel, priced into the hour. For what a family spends on the drive, it can instead buy a tutor who has taught 0620 Extended for years and happens to live somewhere else. For IB Gram's own pricing, the honest answer is a free trial lesson and a consultation rather than a published rate card.

Checking that a science tutor is legally permitted to teach in the UAE

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated, and a Mirdif parent is entitled to ask about it directly. Private tuition work permits were introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and the permit is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years. Anyone telling you there is a fee, or that permits do not apply to private lessons, is wrong on a point of public record.

The eligible categories are broad: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. The application route is MoHRE's own service, 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', which lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time and is accessed through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no figure should be quoted to you.

Two further points are specific to a parent in Dubai. A tutoring operation with premises and staff is a different legal animal from an individual tutor and requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, so a centre and a freelancer are not interchangeable in regulatory terms. And in Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules prohibit school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, with the MoHRE code of conduct carrying a similar bar. IB Gram holds no regulator licence or accreditation and does not describe itself as having one; what we can tell you is which tutor is teaching your child and what their subject background is.

09

Why online beats a local visit for a science specialist in Mirdif

  • Tutor chosen by syllabus code and track record, not by driving distance
  • No travel premium folded into the hourly rate, and no cancelled session because of traffic
  • Shared-screen working and marked scripts are saved and revisitable
  • A specialist in one narrow component, such as Paper 6, is reachable even if nobody local covers it

The case for online delivery on this page is not that it is cheaper, although it is. It is that the thing a Mirdif family needs is specific, and specificity does not survive a geographic filter. The population of tutors who can teach Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620 Extended well, mark Paper 4 against the scheme and drill Paper 6 technique is not evenly spread across Dubai. Filtering that population down to those willing to drive to Mirdif on a Tuesday at 5pm leaves a much smaller group, and the binding constraint becomes the traffic rather than the chemistry.

Science tuition also happens to suit the format unusually well. Working is written on a shared screen and saved, so the student has every derivation afterwards. Past-paper scripts are annotated live in a document both people can see. Graphs are plotted and measured rather than eyeballed. A three-minute clip of an electrolysis demonstration can be paused mid-reaction, which is more than a bench can offer. Nothing about a shared whiteboard is a compromise for a subject that is examined on paper.

To be plain about what IB Gram does and does not sell: lessons for UAE families are one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. We do not send a tutor to a Mirdif address, and home visits are a service we offer only in India. The table of market rates above is there so you can price that choice yourself rather than take our word for it, and the free first lesson exists so you can judge the teaching before any money changes hands.

Academic honesty, and what a science tutor may and may not do

IGCSE science carries less assessed coursework than the Diploma, but the boundary still matters, particularly for students who are also finishing MYP projects or starting Diploma internal assessments. The rule is simple to state. A tutor teaches, explains, questions, sets practice and gives feedback on work the student has produced. A tutor does not produce assessed work, and does not edit a piece of assessed work to the point where the words are no longer the student's.

In practice that means a tutor can teach the structure of a good evaluation, mark a student's own practical write-up against the criteria, explain why a limitation is weak and ask what a better one might be. A tutor cannot supply the limitation in finished prose for the student to copy. On a Diploma internal assessment or an Extended Essay the same line applies with sharper consequences, because an academic-honesty finding by the IB sits on the student's record, not on the tutor's.

This is worth saying plainly because parts of this market do not observe the line at all. One UAE-facing site in this search space sells completed Internal Assessments outright. That is an academic-integrity breach and a malpractice trigger for the student who submits it. We will not do it, we will say so to a student who asks, and if a deadline is genuinely unmanageable the right conversation is with the school's coordinator rather than with a tutor. A coordinator can extend a deadline or arrange support; a tutor who writes the work can only create a problem that outlasts the assignment and follows the student into the next qualification.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Mirdif

Mirdif sits on Dubai's eastern edge, and the families who search for science tuition here come from a wide band of neighbourhoods either side of Al Khawaneej Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. Lessons are online, so the catchment is wider than any driving radius.

Mirdif

Villa and low-rise communities with a high proportion of secondary-age children, served by Uptown School and Star International School Mirdif. School days finish between 2.30pm and 3.30pm, which makes a 5pm or 6.30pm science session the realistic slot rather than anything earlier.

Al Mizhar

Immediately north of Mirdif, with a mix of British and American curriculum students. Families here often have one child sitting IGCSE and another on an American diploma, which is why a tutor matched to a syllabus code rather than a year group matters.

Al Khawaneej

Further east and more spread out, so the drive to any tuition centre is long enough that the travel itself eats the session. Online lessons remove the trip entirely, which for a Year 11 revising three sciences is an hour a week back.

Al Warqa

Dense residential blocks feeding GEMS Our Own English High School and several British-curriculum schools. A large share of IGCSE science enquiries from this area concern Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 rather than three separate awards.

Al Rashidiya

Older established housing close to the Dubai-Sharjah corridor, with students travelling to schools in both Deira and Academic City. Session timing has to account for a long return journey, so late afternoon slots are rarely workable here.

Nad Al Hamar

Between Mirdif and Al Garhoud, within reach of the Dubai Festival City school cluster. Students here commonly sit Cambridge IGCSE sciences at a British-curriculum school and need Extended-tier support in Year 10 rather than crisis help in Year 11.

Dubai Festival City

Home to Deira International School and Universal American School, so both IGCSE and IB science students come from this cluster. The mixed curriculum picture means a tutor has to confirm the specification before the first lesson, not after.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

A student catchment rather than a family one, with several British-curriculum schools and a long commute attached. Evening online sessions after 6pm work far better here than anything scheduled straight after the school run.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Mirdif

Mirdif, Al Mizhar and Al Warqa

The immediate Mirdif cluster carries both an IB school and several British and Indian curriculum schools, which is why science enquiries from a single street can concern three different specifications. Students supported from this cluster sit Cambridge IGCSE, Edexcel International GCSE and MYP sciences.

  • Uptown School
  • Star International School Mirdif
  • GEMS Our Own English High School, Al Warqa
  • Al Mizhar American Academy for Girls
  • Dubai Modern Education School

Dubai Festival City, Al Garhoud and the Deira side

A short hop west of Mirdif and a common destination for the morning run. The cluster mixes a British-curriculum school running IGCSE into A Level with an American school running the Diploma, so sibling pairs in one household frequently need two different science tutors.

  • Deira International School
  • Universal American School
  • Dubai English Speaking School
  • The Indian High School
  • St Mary's Catholic High School

Al Qusais, Al Nahda and Academic City

The northern and eastern edge of the catchment, with large-roll British and Indian curriculum schools and long commutes. Science support here is typically Extended-tier Cambridge work for Year 11 students aiming at A Level or Diploma progression.

  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • The Westminster School Dubai
  • Dubai Scholars Private School
  • Sheffield Private School

Schools are named here as context for the local education ecosystem and because families ask which specifications are taught nearby; no affiliation, endorsement or partnership with any named school is implied or claimed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Tell us the syllabus code

Not just 'IGCSE Chemistry'. The code from the statement of entry: 0620, 4CH1, 0654. If you do not have it, the school's exams officer will confirm it in a sentence, and it determines which tutor is the right one and which past-paper bank the work comes from.

  2. 02

    Send a marked script

A mock paper, a class test, anything with the teacher's marks on it. One real script tells a subject specialist more than an hour of description, because the losses are visible: recall, calculation, command term, practical, or pace. This is the whole basis of the first lesson.

  3. 03

    Take the free first lesson

Sixty minutes, one to one, live online, at a time that fits a Mirdif school day. The tutor works through the script with your child, names the loss pattern, and sets out what a term of work would contain. You decide afterwards whether to continue, and nothing is charged for that lesson.

  4. 04

Agree the sequence, not a vague plan

Which topics, in what order, with what past-paper work attached and which component gets drilled when. For a Year 11 this is pinned to the school's own mock dates and to the June or November series the school has entered, so the plan has real deadlines in it.

  5. 05

Review against marks every three weeks

Not against effort or attendance. Marks on specific question types, compared with where they were. If a number is not moving after three weeks of work, the diagnosis was wrong and we change the approach or the tutor rather than asking the student to try harder.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched by specification, not by subject label

Cambridge 0620 and Edexcel 4CH1 are different examinations with different papers and different practical arrangements. The tutor is chosen for the one your child is sitting, and the past-paper work comes from that board's bank rather than from a general chemistry resource pile.

The practical component is treated as a real component

Paper 5 and Paper 6 carry a fifth of the grade and are commonly taught last and least. We drill them as a separate strand from the first month, using the student's own school practical write-ups as raw material, because that is where the recoverable marks are.

Market rates published, with their sources

The AED bands on this page are other providers' own published figures, quoted with who published them and when. Three of six competitor pages in this search space publish no price at all, and two quote US dollars. A parent in Mirdif should be able to price the decision before making it.

A clear line on assessed work

A tutor here teaches, questions and gives feedback on your child's own work. We do not write internal assessments, extended essays or coursework, and we will say so to a student who asks. In a market where completed assessments are sold openly, that boundary is worth stating.

Honest about the delivery model

Lessons are one to one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to UAE addresses, and the page says so rather than burying it. The comparison with the in-home market is set out with numbers so the trade-off is yours to weigh.

Free diagnostic lesson before any commitment

The first session is free, uses your child's own marked script, and ends with a named loss pattern and a proposed sequence of work. If the diagnosis does not convince you, nothing has been spent and you have a clearer idea of the problem than you started with.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Mirdif: your questions answered

Which Cambridge science syllabus is my child in Mirdif actually sitting?+

Ask the school's exams officer for the syllabus code, which appears on the statement of entry. The common ones are Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620, Physics 0625, Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 as a double award and Combined Science 0653 as a single award. Some Mirdif students sit Pearson Edexcel International GCSE instead, coded 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1. The distinction is not academic. The boards set different papers, assess practical work differently and have separate past-paper banks, so the code decides which tutor is the right match and which questions the revision should come from.

What is the difference between Paper 5 and Paper 6 in IGCSE science?+

Paper 5 is a live practical test lasting an hour and a quarter, taken at a bench with apparatus. Paper 6, the alternative to practical, is a one-hour written paper about experiments: reading instruments, tabulating results, plotting graphs, identifying variables and criticising a described method. Both carry 20 per cent of the Cambridge grade, and a school enters candidates for one or the other. Most Dubai schools use Paper 6. Either way, the majority of available marks go to recording, graphing and evaluation rather than to handling equipment, which is why the component is teachable online.

Can an online tutor really prepare my child for the practical paper?+

For Paper 6 the answer is straightforwardly yes, because it is a written paper about experimental reasoning rather than a test of manual skill. For Paper 5, bench time has to come from school, but the marks that students most often drop are not the handling marks. They are significant figures carried inconsistently, axis scales chosen badly, lines of best fit forced through the origin, anomalies left uncommented and evaluations that name no real limitation. All of that is marked on paper and can be taught, practised and corrected over a shared screen using the student's own school write-ups.

My child is entered on Core science but wants Higher Level Diploma Chemistry. Is that possible?+

It is possible, but the Core entry is the obstacle rather than the ability. A Core entry can only award grades C to G, and most schools expect a 6 or 7 at IGCSE before admitting a student to Higher Level Diploma science. The first step is a conversation with the school about moving the entry to Extended, which is realistic if it happens before the final entry deadline. The supplement content is a finite published list and six to ten weeks of focused work on it is often enough to make the case. Ask in Year 10 if you can.

How many weeks of 0620 past papers does a Year 11 in Mirdif need?+

Fewer whole papers than most families expect, and much earlier topic-level work than most families do. A workable shape is topic-selected questions until the Christmas break, timed sections from January, and five or six full papers under exam conditions between the mock results and the series, each one marked against the published scheme with a written list of three loss points. The value is in the loss analysis rather than the volume. Keep two unseen papers back for the final fortnight so there is still a fair test left at the end.

Is Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 easier than Chemistry 0620 because it has more recall?+

It has more recall and it is not easier, which catches out a lot of capable students. Biology marks are awarded on precision: named structures, named processes, the correct direction of a gradient, the specific hormone. An answer that is broadly right and vaguely worded scores nothing. Chemistry concentrates its difficulty in stoichiometry and electrolysis, where a student can at least see the problem coming. In Biology the difficulty is distributed, so students revise confidently and then lose single marks everywhere. Precision drills on the student's own answers are the fix.

Why does my child keep losing marks on explain questions in IGCSE Physics?+

Almost always because the answer describes instead of explaining. Describe asks what happens, in order. Explain asks why, and an answer without a stated cause scores nothing however accurate the description. Physics compounds this because the causal chain is often two steps long: current increases because resistance falls, so the potential difference across the other component drops. Students write the first half and stop. Showing a student two of their own answers, one credited and one not, usually corrects the misunderstanding in one session; making the habit automatic takes a term of marked practice.

Is Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 a lighter option than three separate sciences?+

The content per subject is reduced and the award is worth two grades rather than three, so for a student who needs science rather than a science pathway it can be a sensible choice. It is not an easy option. The papers move between biology, chemistry and physics without warning, which punishes students who revise one subject at a time in blocks. Interleaved revision matters more here than on any other science route. Check progression plans too, because some A Level and Diploma Higher Level courses expect the separate single-subject award.

Do you cover Pearson Edexcel International GCSE science as well as Cambridge?+

Yes, and the difference is worth understanding before lessons start. Edexcel International GCSE sciences, coded 4BI1, 4CH1, 4PH1 and 4SD0 for the double award, run two written papers with no separate practical examination. Experimental skills are assessed inside those papers, so the student has to criticise and improve a method in prose rather than perform it. Question scaffolding is lighter than Cambridge, which rewards students who can structure an answer unprompted. Tell us the code and the tutor is matched to that specification and works from that board's papers.

When do IGCSE science exams actually happen for a student in Dubai?+

Cambridge runs its IGCSE examinations in a June series and a November series, and UAE candidates sit those two. The February and March series is offered to India only, so ignore any date you see for it. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November; the November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. Every Cambridge centre sits in one of six administrative timetable zones, and Cambridge is explicit that using the wrong zone's timetable is the candidate's risk. Ask your school which zone it is in.

What does an IGCSE science tutor cost per hour in Mirdif?+

Published Dubai market rates read in October 2026 run from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour for budget online tutors, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online, AED 180 to 500 for an in-home visit with travel priced in, and AED 200 to 450 and above for an IGCSE or Diploma specialist. A premium named tier exists above that. Those are other providers' own published figures, not ours. For IB Gram the sensible next step is the free first lesson and a short consultation rather than a rate quoted before anyone has seen a script.

Will a tutor come out to our villa in Mirdif for science lessons?+

No. IB Gram delivers tuition to UAE families one to one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, and home visits are a service we run only in India. That is a deliberate choice rather than a limitation we are apologising for. Filtering the pool of tutors who teach Cambridge 0620 Extended well down to those who will drive to Mirdif on a weekday evening leaves a much smaller group, and the market rate for a visit carries the travel inside the hourly figure. The comparison table on this page sets out both sides with numbers.

How do I check that a science tutor is legally allowed to tutor in the UAE?+

Private tuition work permits were introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and are issued through MoHRE, free of charge, for two years. Eligible categories include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. The official route is MoHRE's 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing' service, which lists a two-working-day completion time. Ask a prospective tutor directly whether they hold the permit. Anyone who tells you it costs money, or does not apply to online lessons, is not a reliable source.

My child has eight weeks before the science papers. Is it too late to start?+

Eight weeks is short but it is not nothing, and what matters is spending it on the right thing. In that window the highest-return work is usually the practical component, because it carries 20 per cent of the grade and is often the least taught, followed by command-term discipline on structured questions. Attempting to recover a whole syllabus in eight weeks produces thin coverage everywhere. A diagnostic first lesson on a recent script identifies the two or three question types costing the most marks, and the remaining weeks go there rather than back to Chapter 1.

Would one tutor handle all three sciences for a Mirdif student, or do we need three?+

Sometimes, and only where the tutor genuinely has the background for each. A physical scientist can often cover Chemistry and Physics credibly at IGCSE level; Biology more often needs a biologist, particularly on the precision of named processes. Where one tutor can cover two or three, a rotation weighted towards whichever paper is furthest from target works better than splitting time evenly. Where they cannot, we say so and match a second tutor rather than stretching one person across a subject they would be learning alongside your child.

What should the free first science lesson actually tell me?+

Three things. Which syllabus and tier your child is on, stated as a code rather than a subject name. Where the marks are going, named by question type: recall, multi-step calculation, command-term reading, practical write-up or pace. And what a term of work would contain, in order, with the school's mock dates and the exam series in it. If a trial lesson ends with warm impressions and no diagnosis, you have learned very little, and that is worth knowing before you commit to a term.

Start with one marked script

The fastest way to know whether tuition will help is to put a real piece of your child's work in front of someone who teaches the specification. Send a mock paper or a class test with the teacher's marks on it, tell us the syllabus code, and we will match a specialist and book a free first lesson at a time that fits a Mirdif school day. In that hour your child goes through their own script with the tutor and you get a named loss pattern and a proposed sequence of work. If it does not convince you, nothing has been spent and you still know more than you did.
