IGCSE Maths Tutor in Mirdif

Looking for an IGCSE maths tutor in Mirdif means asking a question your neighbours in Al Warqa or Al Mizhar may not recognise, because the eastern suburbs run more curricula side by side than almost anywhere in Dubai. A family two streets away may be on CBSE or an American diploma, and advice travels badly between them. This page compares the routes honestly, then does the IGCSE arithmetic. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Mirdif

Why the family two streets away gives you the wrong advice

Mirdif is one of the most curriculum-mixed parts of Dubai, and that has a specific consequence for anybody hiring a maths tutor. The eastern suburbs - Mirdif, Al Mizhar, Al Warqa, Al Khawaneej, Al Rashidiya, Nad Al Hamar - are served by schools running British, Indian, American and IB programmes within a short drive of each other. Dubai had 227 private schools offering 17 different curricula in 2024-25, with the UK curriculum taking 37% of enrolment, Indian 26%, US 14% and the International Baccalaureate 7%. In this part of the city those shares feel much more evenly distributed than the citywide numbers suggest.

So the neighbour whose child is doing brilliantly in maths may be on CBSE, where the syllabus sequence, the question style and the calculator rules are all different. The recommendation they pass on in good faith - a tutor, a workbook, a revision routine - may be excellent for their child and close to useless for yours. This is the single most common reason a Mirdif family hires a maths tutor who turns out not to fit: the referral came from a household on a different qualification.

It cuts the other way too. A student arriving into IGCSE from CBSE often has stronger algebraic manipulation than their new classmates and weaker performance on the structured, multi-part, context-heavy questions the IGCSE papers favour. A student arriving from an American middle-school programme may have met statistics and modelling earlier and surd and index work later. Neither is behind. Both have a mapping problem, and mapping problems are solved in weeks when they are named and in terms when they are not.

The first practical step is therefore not to find a tutor but to establish exactly what your child is sitting. Ask the school, in writing, for the board, the syllabus code and the tier. Cambridge Mathematics is 0580, tiered Core and Extended, with 0606 Additional Mathematics alongside it. Pearson Edexcel runs 4MA1 Mathematics A tiered Foundation and Higher, 4MB1 Mathematics B as a single harder tier, and 4PM1 Further Pure. Those are different qualifications, and the tier within them caps what is arithmetically reachable before any teaching happens.

Then the market, with every figure attributed. Tutopiya advertises from roughly AED 33-52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45-65. A qualified subject tutor online is quoted around AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150. Named specialists are quoted AED 200-450 and above, TutorChase at AED 270, Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table at 200-450+, and BartyED at AED 650. In-home one-to-one visits are quoted at AED 180-350 by Bestimate and up to AED 500 independently - and from the eastern suburbs, with most of the city's tutoring supply concentrated further west, that premium sits near the top of the band.

On delivery, plainly: IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE - home visits are a service we run only in India. For a Mirdif, Al Warqa or Al Mizhar family, lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, which removes the cross-city drive from the price entirely.

At a glance

  • Dubai 2024-25: 227 private schools, 17 curricula - UK 37%, Indian 26%, US 14%, IB 7% (Dubai Media Office)
  • The eastern suburbs mix those curricula closely, so referrals travel badly between households
  • Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1, 4MB1, 4PM1 are different qualifications with different papers
  • Tiered entry caps the grade: Core and Foundation cannot reach the top grades
  • Dubai market: budget AED 33-65; qualified subject tutor AED 150-300; in-home AED 180-500

An eastern-suburb maths enquiry can arrive from any of several starting points. These are the routes a Mirdif student is actually on, or arriving from.

CAIEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge International IGCSE Mathematics

Syllabus 0580, tiered Core and Extended, with two written papers per tier and calculator permissions varying by component. Extended reaches into functions, vectors, transformations and harder algebra. Cambridge 0606 Additional Mathematics is taken alongside by stronger candidates heading for advanced post-16 mathematics.

The most widely sat IGCSE maths route in Dubai and common across the eastern suburbs' British-curriculum schools. Core is capped, so the tier is the first thing to establish in writing - it governs the ceiling before any teaching affects the floor.

PearsonAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics

Mathematics A 4MA1, tiered Foundation and Higher, with two equally weighted papers and a calculator permitted throughout. Mathematics B 4MB1 is a single harder tier. Further Pure 4PM1 serves as advanced preparation. Pearson exams are available in May/June and November each year.

The calculator-throughout design changes the skill balance noticeably against some Cambridge components: a candidate who leans on the calculator is less exposed on arithmetic and more exposed on method, interpretation and showing working that earns method marks.

TransferAges 13-16 · Years 9-11

Arriving into IGCSE from another curriculum

Mid-course transfers into IGCSE mathematics from CBSE, an American programme, the IB MYP or a national system. The content overlap is substantial and the sequencing differs, so a transferring student usually arrives with some topics ahead and some not yet met, plus an unfamiliar question style and paper structure.

Extremely common in the eastern suburbs, where families move between schools on different curricula inside the same few neighbourhoods. The fix is a written gap list built by comparing the two syllabuses, done in the first fortnight rather than discovered in a mock.

Post-16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

A Level and IB Diploma mathematics ahead

Where IGCSE maths leads. A Level Mathematics assumes algebraic fluency the IGCSE only begins; the IB splits into Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation, each at Higher and Standard Level with an internally assessed exploration in all four.

The financial reason to fix IGCSE maths properly rather than to grade-hunt. Post-16 specialist tuition in Dubai is quoted at AED 200-450 and above, so fluency built now at IGCSE rates is fluency that does not have to be bought again in Year 12.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

IGCSE maths is best approached by topic, and transferring students need a different order from students who have been on the course since Year 9.

Algebraic manipulation

All tiers

Rearrangement, expanding, factorising, indices and surds. Usually the strongest area for students arriving from CBSE and the weakest for those arriving from some American programmes. It underpins everything else, which makes it the first thing to assess rather than assume.

Structured multi-part questions

All tiers

Not a topic, and the thing transferring students most often find unfamiliar. IGCSE papers build a question across parts where earlier answers feed later ones, which rewards showing working and punishes abandoning a part. A genuinely learnable habit and a fast one.

Equations and inequalities

All tiers

Linear, simultaneous and quadratic work, with inequalities and number lines at the higher tiers. Marks go on solutions never checked and on quadratics taken to the formula when factorising was faster and safer under time pressure.

Functions and graphs

Extended and Higher mainly

Transformations, domains, composite and inverse functions, and sketching. Students lose marks sketching without labelling key points and giving a domain they have not checked. Conceptually demanding but bounded, so it responds to a defined number of hours.

Trigonometry

Core through Extended

Right-angled work at the lower tiers, then sine and cosine rules and non-right-angled triangles. The classic loss is a calculator left in the wrong angle mode, which costs whole questions and takes one session to eliminate permanently.

Geometry and circle theorems

Extended and Higher

Angle reasoning where marks are awarded for naming the theorem rather than for the number. A right answer with no reasoning shown forfeits most of the marks, which makes this a cheap fix with a visible effect on a paper total.

Mensuration and similarity

All tiers

Areas, volumes, arcs, sectors, and similar shapes with length, area and volume scale factors. Applying a length factor to an area is the classic single misconception rather than a body of content, and it is corrected in one session.

Vectors

Extended and Higher

Column vectors, magnitude and geometric arguments using vector paths. Usually taught late and rushed, which is why it is overrepresented in dropped marks, and frequently absent from a transferring student's prior course entirely.

Probability and statistics

All tiers

Tree diagrams, conditional probability, averages from grouped data, cumulative frequency and histograms. Often an area where students arriving from American programmes are ahead and British-curriculum peers are behind, which is worth knowing before buying hours.

Number, ratio and bounds

Core and Foundation especially

Percentages and reverse percentages, compound interest, ratio, standard form and upper and lower bounds. Heavily weighted at the lower tiers and routinely under-practised by students who consider it beneath them - which is exactly where Core and Foundation grades are won.

Calculator technique and formula recall

All tiers, board-dependent

Which formulae are provided and which must be known differs by board and route, and students assume wrongly. Pearson Mathematics A permits a calculator throughout, so memory use, mode discipline and sensible rounding recover marks across the whole paper.

Additional and Further Pure Mathematics

Cambridge 0606, Pearson 4PM1

Advanced preparation for A Level or IB Higher Level maths, with a steep jump in algebraic demand. Worth paying for where the post-16 destination requires it, and worth declining where it would take hours from subjects that will decide the outcome.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four ways to buy IGCSE maths support from the eastern suburbs, with the comparison that matters in each.

A transfer mapping block

For a student who has arrived into IGCSE maths from CBSE, an American programme, the MYP or a national system. Three or four sessions comparing what the new syllabus assesses against what the student has actually covered, producing a written gap list the student and the school can both see.

  • Built by comparing the two live syllabus documents, not from memory
  • Produces a gap list rather than a vague impression
  • Covers question style and paper structure, not only content
  • Done in the first fortnight, before the gaps surface in a mock

A defined topic block

Six to twelve sessions aimed at the topics a marked paper identified, with practice set between them. IGCSE maths loses most of its marks to technique, which responds to a finite number of well-aimed hours rather than to an open commitment.

  • Topics chosen from the marked script, not a syllabus checklist
  • A fixed number of sessions, so the total is known at the start
  • Practice set between sessions and marked at the next
  • Ends with a decision rather than rolling on by default

One protected weekly hour

Steady weekly contact with the same teacher through Years 10 and 11, suited to a student whose gaps are cumulative rather than specific. Slower to show on a paper total than a targeted block, more durable once it does, and unaffected by which suburb the household lives in.

  • Same tutor weekly, so gaps close in a sensible order
  • Set against the real arrival home, which varies widely in Mirdif
  • Past-paper scripts annotated live and kept by the student
  • Identical cost and availability from any eastern suburb

A pre-series intensive

Two or three sessions a week before the June or November series, built from the marked mock and spent on timed papers on the correct board rather than on new content. Good value where the content is largely there and the marks are going on timing, working and command words.

  • Full papers under time, marked, with an error list kept
  • Scoped to question types the mock actually exposed
  • Fixed end date, so the spend does not drift
  • Nothing new introduced in the final fortnight

01

What transfers from another curriculum, and what does not

This is the section that does not exist anywhere else in this market, and in the eastern suburbs it is the most useful thing a parent can read. Students move between curricula constantly here, and the resulting gaps are predictable rather than mysterious. A mapping exercise in the first fortnight turns a term of confusion into a list of three or four things to cover.

From CBSE into IGCSE, the usual pattern is strong algebraic manipulation and arithmetic fluency meeting an unfamiliar question style. IGCSE papers build questions across multiple parts in a context, where earlier answers feed later ones and marks are awarded for method shown rather than for the final value alone. A student used to a different convention may produce correct answers and lose method marks, which reads as a maths problem and is a presentation problem.

From an American middle-school or high-school programme, statistics and data handling have often been met earlier and more thoroughly, while surds, bounds, and some of the geometry and circle-theorem work may not have been covered at all. The student is not behind; the sequence was different. Identify the missing blocks and they are a handful of sessions, not a year.

From the IB MYP, the student usually arrives comfortable with investigation and generalisation and less practised at speed under timed conditions, because MYP mathematics is criterion-assessed rather than examined for most students. The fix is timed-paper work, which is cheap and fast. The table below sets out the mapping so a parent can hand it to a tutor rather than hoping one produces it.

02

Establish the board, the code and the tier first

Before any hours are bought, three facts should be in writing from the school. The board. The syllabus code. The tier. Together they decide what grade is arithmetically reachable, and they are the facts a neighbour's recommendation cannot supply because the neighbour's child may be on a different qualification altogether.

The tier does the heavy lifting. Tiered IGCSE mathematics caps the grade at the lower tier: a candidate entered for Cambridge 0580 Core cannot be awarded the top grades, and the same applies to Pearson Mathematics A at Foundation. So a family paying for months of hours to lift a Core candidate into the top band is paying for an outcome the entry has excluded. The reverse error exists too - a student entered for Extended who is not yet fluent faces a whole paper pitched above their current level, which content teaching does not recover.

The code matters for a different reason: past-paper practice has to be on the right board. Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 have different paper structures and different calculator permissions, and a student revising with the wrong board's papers is practising unfamiliar question styles and timing. That wastes the best preparation tool in the subject, and it happens most often in exactly the situation this page describes - after a school move inside the eastern suburbs.

The decision on tier belongs to the school, which is right because they hold the data, and it is interrogable. The window is Year 10 into early Year 11, not March. Ask what your child's current performance predicts on each tier and what specifically would have to change by the entry deadline. A specialist reading a marked mock can separate marks lost to fixable technique from marks lost to the paper being pitched too high - which is the whole decision and takes one session.

Mirdif against Al Warqa against Al Mizhar: the honest comparison

Families in the eastern suburbs compare neighbourhoods constantly when looking for tutors, so here is the comparison done properly. What differs between Mirdif, Al Warqa, Al Mizhar and Al Khawaneej is housing, school provision and drive times. What differs much less is the supply of tutors who know your child's specific board and tier, because that is a city-wide variable rather than a street-level one.

What genuinely differs, and in a way that matters, is the curriculum mix. Al Warqa and International City carry heavy Indian-curriculum enrolment; Mirdif itself has British, American, Indian and IB provision within the neighbourhood; the creek-side schools in Festival City and Garhoud skew differently again. So a tutor who is well known and well regarded in one of those households may have built that reputation on a syllabus your child is not sitting. That is the eastern-suburb trap, and it is specific to this part of Dubai.

Drive times do affect in-home pricing. Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350 with independent home tutors advertising up to AED 500, against AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor online. Those are city-wide ranges and where a household sits inside them tracks distance from the tutor. From Al Khawaneej, the furthest out, an in-home quote is realistically at the top of the band and the pool willing to come at five in the afternoon is correspondingly small.

Which means the useful comparison is not between suburbs at all. It is between hiring by distance and hiring by syllabus. The table sets out what each neighbourhood offers so the decision can be made on evidence rather than on a sense that somewhere nearby must be better served.

Group class, one-to-one or in-home: the eastern-suburb comparison

This is the comparison most Mirdif families actually face, because the neighbourhood has tuition centres as well as private tutors. Each option is reasonable for something, and each is routinely bought for the wrong thing. The honest division depends on whether your child's problem is common content or specific to their board, tier and habits.

A group class at a centre is cheaper per hour and works for common content revision - a topic the whole room has not grasped, taught once. It works badly where the problem is board-specific, because a room containing Cambridge Core, Cambridge Extended and Pearson Higher candidates can only be taught generically. Note too that a centre with premises in Dubai operates under a KHDA Educational Services Permit, a different licence from an individual tutor's MoHRE permit, and it is reasonable to ask for the number.

One-to-one online sits at AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor and is where diagnosed work belongs, because the session can be aimed at one student's tier, board and marked script. In-home one-to-one at AED 180-350, or up to AED 500 independently, delivers the same teaching plus physical presence - which genuinely helps a younger or easily distracted student, and from the eastern suburbs costs the most because the drive is longest.

Published monthly packages make the trade concrete: about AED 799 a month for eight online sessions against AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. For maths, where the work is annotated calculation both parties need to see, a shared screen does the job fully. Where supervision is the real need, in-home is worth paying for and plenty of Dubai providers deliver it - IB Gram does not, because home visits are a service we run only in India. One piece of household context: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for 2026-27, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion.

The question styles that catch transferring students

  • Multi-part questions reward shown method and carrying earlier answers forward
  • Contextual wrapping has to be unwrapped before the mathematics starts
  • Command words are specific: hence means use the previous result
  • A student who knows the maths and scores low usually has a style gap, not a content gap
  • One question rewritten properly against a mark scheme beats ten attempted

Content gaps are easy to find and easy to fix. Question-style gaps are neither, because they do not show up on a topic checklist - they show up as a student who knows the maths and scores below expectation. Three specific patterns account for most of it, and all three are teachable in a handful of sessions once named.

The first is the multi-part structured question. IGCSE papers build a question across parts, with earlier answers feeding later ones and marks awarded for method. A student from a system that rewards the final answer will present clean solutions and forfeit method marks, and will abandon a part rather than carry a partial result forward. Teaching them to show working and to use their own earlier answer is worth more than any topic revision.

The second is context. Many IGCSE questions wrap the mathematics in a situation - a journey, a bill, a scale drawing - and the first task is extracting the mathematics from the words. Students arriving from more abstractly presented syllabuses can be excellent at the operation and slow at the extraction, which costs time across a whole paper and therefore costs marks at the end of it.

The third is command words. Show that, prove, hence, explain, estimate: each asks for something specific, and answering the wrong one is capped before the mathematics is read. Hence in particular means use the previous result, and a student who starts again from scratch loses the marks even when the answer is right. Rewriting one question properly against a real mark scheme teaches more than attempting ten.

06

Counting backwards to the June or November series

UAE candidates sit the June series and the November series. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February/March series is offered to India only and does not apply to a candidate in Dubai - a distinction that matters particularly in the eastern suburbs, where families with connections to Indian schooling may have heard the February window described as normal.

One Cambridge detail affects planning directly. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Ask your child's exams officer which zone the centre sits in, in writing, before building any plan around a date found online.

For Pearson, International GCSE exams are available in May/June and November each year. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so work from the live official timetable rather than from any restated dates, including these.

Counted backwards the phases are: board, code and tier confirmed; transfer mapping if the student has moved curricula; steady work or a diagnosed block; the mock round read from marked scripts rather than percentages; then timed papers on the correct board. Resit routes exist in both directions, with entry fees set by the board and the examination centre rather than by any tutor, so ask the school or the centre for that figure.

Scheduling from Mirdif, where two children rarely share a clock

  • Write down the real arrival time per child, including the bus loop and the food
  • Two children at two schools usually means two different slots
  • A session losing twenty minutes weekly discards about ten hours a year
  • The usable weekday window is roughly 4.30pm to 7.30pm
  • Ramadan and summer are scheduling changes rather than pauses when nobody drives

Eastern-suburb school runs are unusually varied, and that is a scheduling fact rather than a complaint. A Mirdif household can have one child at a school inside the neighbourhood and another travelling to Festival City, Silicon Oasis or further west, which means two arrival times and two sensible slots. A tutor who drives can serve one of them.

The practical method is to write down the real arrival time for each child on a normal term-time day: timetabled finish, plus the bus loop, plus the walk, plus the twenty minutes a teenager needs to eat and stop being a passenger. Set the slot after that, and then stop renegotiating it. A session scheduled against the timetable instead loses its first twenty minutes every week, which across a thirty-week school year discards roughly ten hours of tuition - at AED 150-300 an hour, the cheapest available improvement to any arrangement.

Past roughly 7.30pm most Year 10 and Year 11 students produce diminishing work, so the usable weekday window in Mirdif is roughly 4.30pm to 7.30pm depending on the run. Where the week genuinely contains no usable hour - a long westward commute plus clubs plus a sibling's schedule - a weekend slot with a rested student does more than a weekday one forced in against the evidence.

Two Dubai-specific points. School days shorten during Ramadan and the afternoon becomes the least productive part of the day, so a post-Iftar slot often works better; an arrangement that can move survives the month, and one that cannot frequently does not restart afterwards. And over the summer, a family travelling can keep the hour running on Gulf Standard Time or shift it to another time zone, which is not an option when somebody has to drive to a villa in Mirdif.

08

Checking the tutor, which costs nothing

  • Ask to see the MoHRE private tuition work permit - free, two years, two working days
  • No fine amounts are published; treat any figure quoted at you as unverified
  • Decline paying your child's own maths teacher for private lessons
  • No individual tutor holds KHDA, Cambridge or Pearson accreditation
  • Official syllabus material should be linked, never supplied as a download

Two free checks before the first paid hour, and they matter more when a tutor has come via a neighbour's recommendation rather than through any process. The permit first: private tutoring in the UAE is regulated, the MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and individuals offering private tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted at you.

The mechanics are worth knowing because they remove every excuse a tutor might offer. The filing is MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, submitted through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system; it lists no fees and states a two-working-day completion time. Its eligible categories read almost like a census of who actually tutors in a suburb like this one: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. The Mirdif engineer teaching Edexcel maths on Tuesday evenings qualifies, and so does the Year 13 student two streets away. Two working days and no fee means a working tutor without one has chosen not to have one.

The second check is the arrangement itself, which in a curriculum-mixed suburb comes up often. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Treat it as press-reported and verify against current policy, but decline the arrangement where your child's own maths teacher is paid privately.

And the claims to refuse. No individual tutor in Dubai is KHDA-approved, because that status does not exist for individuals - KHDA regulates schools and issues an Educational Services Permit to training institutes with premises in the emirate. Nobody holds Cambridge or Pearson accreditation as a private tutor. And no provider should supply board syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads; those get referenced and linked to the board's own site. IB Gram holds no regulator or board accreditation and operates no premises in the UAE.

The first fortnight after a mid-course move

  • Session one compares the new syllabus with what has actually been covered
  • The output is a written gap list of three to six items, shared with the school
  • Session two addresses question style, which a topic checklist never catches
  • Sessions three and four take the first gaps, with practice set and marked
  • Review against the school's first assessment rather than extending by default

This is the highest-value fortnight available to an eastern-suburb family, and almost nobody uses it. A student who changes school and curriculum mid-course has a window in which the gaps are small and findable. Left alone, those gaps compound quietly and surface three months later as a disappointing mock, by which point the same work costs three times as much to do.

Session one is a comparison rather than a lesson: the new syllabus against what the student has actually covered, topic by topic, using the live syllabus document from the board's own site rather than anybody's summary. The output is a written gap list - usually three to six items, not twenty - that the student, the parent and the new school can all see. That document is the deliverable and it is worth more than any amount of general catch-up.

Session two addresses question style, because that is the gap a topic checklist misses. Multi-part structured questions, contextual wrapping, command words, and the method-mark conventions of the new board. For a student arriving from CBSE this is often the entire problem, and it can be substantially fixed in a single well-aimed session followed by marked practice.

Sessions three and four take the first two items from the gap list, with practice set between and marked at the next. Then the plan gets reviewed against the school's first assessment rather than extended by default. Some students need nothing further. Some need a longer block. Some turn out to be in a tier conversation with the new school, and should be told so. The free trial lesson means the comparison session costs nothing, which is the right price for the most useful hour in the sequence.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Mirdif

The eastern suburbs mix curricula within a very short radius, which is what makes neighbourhood-level comparison misleading here. This is what each one actually contains.

Mirdif

Villa and low-rise family suburb around Mirdif City Centre and Uptown Mirdif, with schools inside the neighbourhood across British, American, Indian and IB provision. The mix is the defining feature.

Al Mizhar

North-east of Mirdif, villa territory with its own school provision across more than one curriculum. A referral from here may well concern a different qualification from your child's.

Al Warqa

South-west towards Al Rashidiya, dense villa communities with a large long-settled population and heavy Indian-curriculum enrolment. The most common source of well-meant but non-transferable advice.

Al Khawaneej

North-east beyond Al Mizhar, lower density and further out. Longer drives in every direction, which raises in-home quotes without changing which qualification your child is sitting.

Al Rashidiya

West towards the airport and Garhoud, older and the best-connected of the eastern suburbs by road and metro. Shorter runs to the creek-side schools and their own curriculum mix.

Nad Al Hamar

South-west towards Ras Al Khor, quieter and residential, with families commuting outward. Same curriculum mix, same referral problem, same arithmetic.

Dubai Festival City

South-west on the creek, with established school provision including British-curriculum campuses. A twenty to thirty minute run from most of Mirdif in term-time afternoons.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

South-east, mixed residential and technology free zone with its own schools across several curricula. Another short hop that changes the qualification mix rather than the tutoring economics.

International City

South of Mirdif, dense and affordable, with substantial Indian-curriculum and mixed enrolment. The clearest illustration of why a neighbour's maths recommendation may not apply.

Dubai International Academic City

Beyond Silicon Oasis, home to university campuses. Relevant only as a reminder that higher-education mathematics is not IGCSE board-specific teaching.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the board, code and tier in writing

Ask the school rather than a neighbour, because in a curriculum-mixed suburb the neighbour's answer may concern a different qualification. Those three facts decide what grade is reachable and which past papers are worth practising on, and the request costs nothing.

  2. 02

Say whether your child has changed curriculum

If they arrived into IGCSE from CBSE, an American programme, the MYP or a national system, say so in the first message. It changes the whole opening plan from topic revision to a mapping exercise, and the mapping is far cheaper done early.

  3. 03

    Send the last marked paper

Not a description - the script with whatever the teacher wrote on it. Marks lost to working, to timing, to a topic gap and to question style look completely different on a page, and they carry different price tags and different fixes.

  4. 04

Take the free trial lesson as the diagnosis

One lesson at no cost with the marked paper on screen, ending with the problem named and an indicative number of hours. If the honest answer is a tier conversation with the school rather than a tutoring purchase, you will be told that instead.

  5. 05

Set the slot per child, from the real arrival

Mirdif households often have two children on two very different school runs. Each slot is set against that child's actual arrival on a normal day and then held, and nothing depends on anybody driving across the city at five in the afternoon.

  6. 06

Review against the school's next mark

Judged on the next assessed paper or mock on the same topics. If the mark moved, buy the next block. If it did not after a fair run, the diagnosis was wrong and gets revised rather than repeated at greater length.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched to the board, not to the referral

In a suburb where British, American, Indian and IB schools sit within a short drive, a neighbour's recommendation may rest on a different syllabus entirely. Matching on the board, code and tier is what makes the hour relevant to the paper your child will actually sit.

Transfer gaps get mapped, not guessed

Students arriving from CBSE, American programmes or the MYP have predictable and specific gaps. A comparison against the live syllabus document produces a written list of three to six items in one session - which is the difference between weeks of work and a term of confusion.

The tier gets checked before the hours

Core and Foundation entries cap the grade available, and almost no page in this market mentions it. A diagnosis that starts with the entry decision can save an eastern-suburb family a year of fees aimed at an outcome the entry already excluded.

Board-correct past papers

Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 differ in paper structure and calculator design, so preparation happens on the board your child actually sits. After a school move inside the eastern suburbs, practising the wrong board's papers is a common and entirely avoidable waste.

Rates come with their publisher

Tutopiya, EdFlik, Unitors, TutorChase, Bestimate and BartyED each published a figure quoted here, and you can check each one. Three of six researched competitor pages publish no price at all and two quote in a currency UAE families do not transact in.

Distance stops being priced in

In-home quotes from the eastern suburbs sit near the top of the AED 180-500 band because the drive is long. Lessons here are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, identical in cost and availability from Mirdif, Al Warqa or Al Khawaneej; home visits are a service we run only in India.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Mirdif: your questions answered

Why did a maths tutor recommended by a Mirdif neighbour not suit my child?+

Most often because the neighbour's child is on a different qualification. The eastern suburbs mix British, American, Indian and IB provision within a short drive, and Dubai overall had 227 private schools offering 17 curricula in 2024-25 with Indian at 26% of enrolment and US at 14%. A tutor who is genuinely excellent on CBSE mathematics may have never taught Cambridge 0580 or Pearson 4MA1, where the paper structure, method-mark conventions and calculator rules all differ. Ask any recommended tutor which board and code they have taught before anything else.

My child moved into IGCSE from CBSE. What actually needs fixing?+

Usually question style rather than content. Students arriving from CBSE often have stronger algebraic manipulation and arithmetic speed than their new classmates, and are unfamiliar with the IGCSE habit of building a question across multiple parts in a context, where earlier answers feed later ones and marks are awarded for method shown. A clean solution with the right answer can forfeit method marks. That is a presentation and convention gap, fixable in a single well-aimed session plus marked practice, and it reads on a report as a maths problem.

What do students arriving from an American programme typically miss?+

Surds, upper and lower bounds, circle theorems and some of the geometry work are commonly not yet met, while statistics, data handling and modelling have often been covered earlier and more thoroughly than their new peers have managed. The student is not behind - the sequence was different. A comparison of the live IGCSE syllabus against what has actually been covered usually produces three to six missing blocks rather than a year's worth, and five to eight weeks of targeted support closes them.

Does living in Al Warqa or Al Khawaneej change the tutoring options?+

Only the in-home price and the number of tutors willing to drive. Supply of teachers who know a specific board and tier is a city-wide variable rather than a street-level one, so widening the search from Mirdif to the next suburb does not widen the pool. What it does change is distance: Bestimate's 2026 table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350 with independent home tutors to AED 500, and an address further east sits near the top of that range. Online, the AED 150-300 qualified-tutor band applies identically everywhere.

Is a tuition centre group class in Mirdif worth it for maths?+

For common content revision, sometimes - a topic the whole room has not grasped, taught once, is reasonable value. For diagnosed work it is poor value, because a room containing Cambridge Core, Cambridge Extended and Pearson Higher candidates can only be taught generically, and nobody there can address one student's tier or command-term habits. A centre with premises in Dubai also operates under a KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is a different licence from an individual tutor's MoHRE permit, and asking for the number is entirely reasonable.

How do I find out which tier my child is entered for?+

Ask the school in writing, and ask for the code alongside it. Tiered IGCSE mathematics caps the grade at the lower tier: a Cambridge 0580 Core candidate cannot be awarded the top grades, and the same applies to Pearson Mathematics A at Foundation. That makes the tier the first thing to establish, because it determines whether the grade you are aiming at is arithmetically available before any teaching affects anything. The decision belongs to the school and the window to discuss it is Year 10 into early Year 11, not March.

Does it matter whether we practise Cambridge or Pearson past papers?+

It matters a great deal, and getting it wrong is common after a school move inside the eastern suburbs. Cambridge 0580 and Pearson Mathematics A 4MA1 have different paper structures, different tiering and different calculator design - Pearson permits a calculator throughout, which shifts the skill balance. A student revising with the wrong board's papers is practising unfamiliar question styles and timing, which wastes the single best preparation tool in the subject. Confirm the code with the school and then use only that board's materials.

Which command words cost the most marks in IGCSE maths?+

Hence is the expensive one. It means use the previous result, and a student who starts the question again from scratch loses the marks even when the final answer is correct. Show that and prove require the argument rather than the answer, so a verified numerical check earns little. Estimate asks for sensible rounding before calculating, not after. Each of these is capped before the mathematics is read if the wrong thing is delivered, and rewriting one question properly against a real mark scheme teaches more than attempting ten.

Does IB Gram send a maths tutor to a villa in Mirdif?+

No. Home visits are a service we run only in India, and nobody is sent to a UAE address. For a Mirdif, Al Warqa or Al Mizhar family, lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with screen sharing so the marked paper, the correct board's past paper and the mark scheme are visible to both sides and the annotated script stays with the student. From the eastern suburbs that also removes the longest drive in the city from the price, which is where most of the in-home premium here comes from.

What should a Mirdif family do in the first fortnight after changing schools?+

A syllabus comparison, before anything else. One session setting the new board's live syllabus against what the student has actually covered, producing a written gap list - usually three to six items - that the student, the parent and the new school can all see. Then one session on question style and method-mark conventions, which a topic checklist never catches. Left alone, those gaps compound quietly and surface three months later as a disappointing mock, at which point the same work costs several times as much.

How many hours does an IGCSE maths problem usually take to fix?+

It depends on the category, and a marked paper shows that in ten minutes. Question-style and convention problems after a curriculum transfer typically run three to five hours. A single diagnosed topic gap runs two to four. An algebraic fluency rebuild runs eight to fifteen, in short frequent sessions rather than long ones. Whole-paper weakness is twenty hours or more, and at that point the tier conversation matters more than the hours. Nobody can promise a specific grade from any of it, and a provider who does is telling you something.

Which series will an eastern-suburb candidate be entered for?+

The June series or the November series. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series, with Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February/March series is offered to India only and does not apply to a candidate in Dubai - worth stating plainly here, because families with connections to Indian schooling sometimes hear the February window described as standard. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May/June and November each year, and the live official timetable is the only source to plan from.

Why would my child's exam timetable differ from a friend's at another school?+

Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Two candidates sitting the same syllabus at different centres can therefore face different dates and times. It is one written question to your child's exams officer, and the answer should be in hand before any revision plan is built around a particular date.

What time should a session start for a Mirdif student with a long school run?+

After the real arrival time on a normal day, not after the timetabled finish. Eastern-suburb runs vary from a short hop to a school inside Mirdif to a long westward drive, and households with two children often have both at once. Work out the finish, plus the bus loop, plus the walk, plus the twenty minutes a teenager needs to eat and decompress. A session losing its first twenty minutes weekly discards roughly ten hours across a thirty-week year, which at AED 150-300 an hour is the cheapest improvement available.

Does a resit cost anything beyond the tutoring?+

Yes - entry fees, which are set by the board and the examination centre rather than by any tutor and differ between centres, so the figure has to come from your child's school or the centre you would enter through. Both boards run two series a year, so a June result can be addressed in November and a November result in the following May or June. Read the mark breakdown before deciding: a candidate who was close and lost marks across the paper to timing and working is in a very different position from one who was a long way off.

Confirm the qualification before you take the recommendation

If you are looking for an IGCSE maths tutor in Mirdif, the step that saves the most is also the cheapest: get the board, the syllabus code and the tier from the school in writing, because in a suburb this curriculum-mixed a neighbour's recommendation may rest on a different qualification entirely. Then send the last marked paper, and say if your child has moved curricula mid-course. You will get a named tutor who has taught that board, a written gap list if a transfer is involved, and a free trial lesson that functions as the diagnosis. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; home visits are a service we run only in India.
