IB Tutor near me in Mirdif

Searching for an IB tutor near me in Mirdif usually returns a map pin and a drive time. Those two things decide very little. What decides a Diploma grade is whether the person teaching your child has taught that exact subject at that exact level, and IB Gram answers that by teaching Mirdif students one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The comparison this page makes is between Mirdif and the community next to it, and the answer comes out the same either way.

  • One-to-one lessons over live video, not a recorded course
  • Lesson times set to Gulf Standard Time around Mirdif school hours
  • Subject specialists by level: Maths AA HL, Chemistry SL, History HL
  • A free trial lesson before any commitment is made

IB & IGCSE in Mirdif

Why the nearest IB tutor is rarely the right one

A parent in Mirdif types "IB tutor near me" because proximity feels like a proxy for everything else: reliability, convenience, a person you can look in the eye. It is a reasonable instinct and it worked for a generation. The problem is what proximity costs once the subject gets narrow. The IB Diploma is not one subject taught at one level. It is six subjects, each at Higher or Standard Level, each with its own Internal Assessment, plus Theory of Knowledge and a 4,000-word Extended Essay. A student in Ghoroob taking Maths Analysis and Approaches HL, Chemistry HL and History SL needs three different specialists, not one generalist who lives eight minutes away.

Run the arithmetic on the radius. Draw a twenty-minute circle around Mirdif at four in the afternoon and you capture Al Mizhar, Al Warqa, Al Khawaneej, Nad Al Hamar and part of Al Rashidiya. That is a large slice of eastern Dubai and still a small pool of adults who have taught IB Chemistry HL through a full two-year cycle, supervised an Internal Assessment against the five published criteria, and seen what a Paper 3 data-analysis question does to a student who has only practised Paper 1. Widen the circle to Dubai Festival City and Silicon Oasis and the pool grows; widen it past the city limit and the constraint disappears entirely.

That is the whole argument for online delivery, and it is an argument about supply rather than about technology. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE, because doing so would reintroduce the radius it just removed. Home visits are a service offered only in India. For a Mirdif family the lesson happens over live video, one-to-one, with a shared screen for working through a past-paper question and a document the student and tutor edit together between sessions.

The comparison runs the other way as well, which is the point of this page. Take the same question from Al Mizhar, from Uptown Mirdif, from a villa off Algeria Street, from an apartment in Dubai Festival City. The map changes. The school changes, sometimes from an IB continuum school to a British-curriculum school that runs IGCSE then the Diploma. The commute changes by fifteen minutes in either direction. None of that changes which specialist a Chemistry HL student needs, and none of it changes the answer to the search. The nearest community over gets the same recommendation, for the same reason.

What does change by community is logistics, and that is worth being specific about. A student at a school in Dubai Festival City who lives in Mirdif gets home later than a student walking back from a school inside Mirdif itself. A family in Al Khawaneej is further from the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road junctions that clog at five. These differences decide whether a session starts at 16:30 or 18:00, and they are real planning facts. They are not reasons to accept a tutor who has never taught the subject.

At a glance

  • Mirdif, Al Mizhar, Al Warqa and Al Khawaneej feed a mix of IB continuum and British-curriculum schools
  • Dubai private schools are regulated and inspected by KHDA, on six bands from Outstanding to Very Weak
  • Market rates for one-to-one IB tuition in Dubai run roughly AED 150-450 an hour depending on tier and format
  • An in-home visit carries a travel premium the published rate tables make visible
  • IB Gram tutors teach, review and give feedback; they never produce an IA, Extended Essay or TOK essay
  • Lessons run over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with a free trial before anything is booked
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Mirdif sits inside a cluster where the full IB continuum and the British route both have a strong presence, so a family here is often choosing between programmes rather than inside one. These are the programmes IB Gram supports for students in the eastern suburbs.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard, scored 1-7 each, plus up to three points from Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay. Every subject carries an Internal Assessment marked by the school against published criteria and moderated by the IB. UAE schools enter candidates for the May session. The Diploma is where tutoring demand concentrates, because the HL papers and the IA deadlines land in the same twelve months.

Mirdif families reach Diploma schools in several directions: IB continuum schools inside the community, IB schools in Dubai Festival City, and British-curriculum schools in Academic City and Silicon Oasis that run the Diploma alongside A Level. A child's Diploma school and home community are often not the same place, which is the single most useful fact to tell a tutor in the first conversation.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria labelled A to D, each marked out of 8, converted to a 1-7 grade by published boundaries. There are no public exams in most MYP years, so the signal a parent gets is a criterion profile rather than a percentage. A student can be strong on criterion A knowledge and weak on criterion C communicating, and the report will not say that in plain words.

Eastern-suburbs parents frequently have one child in MYP and one in IGCSE at a different school, and compare two reports that are not comparable. An MYP 5 and an IGCSE grade 5 mean unrelated things. Tutoring at MYP level in Mirdif is usually about reading the criterion profile correctly before Diploma subject choices are locked in during Year 11.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary units of inquiry with no external examination, ending in the Year 6 Exhibition. Assessment is formative and descriptive, which is useful pedagogy and difficult reading for a parent who wants to know whether their child is behind in number fluency or reading age. Support at this stage is diagnostic: finding the specific gap rather than drilling a syllabus.

Mirdif has a dense primary market, with several schools drawing from the same residential streets, so cohorts shift between schools more than they do in newer communities. A child moving from a PYP school to a British-curriculum primary inside the same postcode will meet phonics and written-method expectations set out differently, and that gap is usually six to ten weeks of targeted work.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE and the route into the Diploma

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE qualifications taken at 16, graded 9-1 or A*-G depending on the syllabus. UAE candidates sit the June and November series. Many eastern-suburbs students take IGCSE at a British-curriculum school and then enter the IB Diploma, which means switching from a modular, heavily past-papered assessment culture to one built on extended written work and internal assessment.

The IGCSE-to-Diploma step is the most common tutoring request from the Mirdif cluster after Diploma subject help. The gap is rarely content. It is the length of answer expected, the command terms, and the fact that nobody marks an IB IA for recall. Five accredited IGCSE subjects at grade E or 3 or above also sit inside the Ministry of Education equivalency route, with Arabic and Islamic Education excluded from that count.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma and MYP subjects most often requested by families in Mirdif and the communities immediately around it. Each line says what the subject actually assesses, because that is what decides which tutor fits.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The proof-and-calculus route. HL adds a Paper 3 of two extended problem-solving questions worth 20% of the grade, which is unlike anything in IGCSE. Marks go missing in the move from a correct method to a justified argument, and in the Internal Assessment where students pick a topic too large to explore in twelve to twenty pages.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and technology-led work. The graphic display calculator is assumed throughout, and students lose marks for reporting an answer without the model or the degree of accuracy. HL carries its own Paper 3. Choosing AI over AA for an engineering or economics ambition needs checking against the named university's own entry page.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics, thermal physics, waves, fields and nuclear physics, with HL adding depth rather than new breadth in most topics. Paper 1 is multiple choice with no mark for method, so a careless unit conversion costs the whole item. The experimental Internal Assessment is marked on the quality of the investigation design, not on whether the result matched theory.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Structure and reactivity across physical, inorganic and organic chemistry. Organic mechanisms and the energetics calculations are the two places HL students stall. Paper 2 and Paper 3 reward precise command-term reading: explain, deduce and justify want different things, and a correct chemical fact written against the wrong command term scores nothing.

Biology

HL and SL

Cells, molecular biology, genetics, ecology and physiology, with HL extending into plant biology and animal physiology. Data-based questions carry heavy weight, and students who have memorised content lose marks reading an unfamiliar graph. The IA needs a measurable independent variable, which is where most weak Biology explorations fail before the writing starts.

Economics

HL and SL

Microeconomics, macroeconomics and the global economy, assessed partly through commentaries on real news articles. HL adds quantitative questions and a policy paper. Diagram accuracy carries marks on its own: an unlabelled axis or a shifted curve without an explanation of the mechanism is a predictable, avoidable loss.

Business Management

HL and SL

Organisational structure, human resources, finance and marketing, with tools such as the Ansoff matrix and break-even analysis applied to case material. Students who write what a model is rather than what it shows about this firm score in the bottom bands. HL adds a research project on a real organisation of the student's choice.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Non-literary texts alongside literary works, assessed through a Paper 1 guided analysis, a Paper 2 comparative essay and an Individual Oral on a global issue. HL adds a 1,200-1,500 word essay on one studied work. The common failure is description of content where the mark scheme asks for analysis of authorial choice.

History

HL and SL

Prescribed subjects with source work in Paper 1, world history topics in Paper 2, and a regional option in HL Paper 3 of three essays in two and a half hours. The source questions have a fixed structure that rewards practice; the HL paper rewards planning speed. The Historical Investigation IA runs to 2,200 words and is marked on method as much as content.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Core

Together worth up to three points on the 45-point scale. TOK is assessed by an exhibition of three objects and a 1,600-word essay on a prescribed title; the Extended Essay is a 4,000-word independent piece with a supervisor. Both are the student's own work. A tutor may teach the method, question the argument and give feedback, and may not write any part of it.

MYP Mathematics and Sciences

Years 7-11

Assessed against criteria A to D, with criterion C and D work on communication and reflection carrying as much weight as knowledge. Students who have never been taught what criterion B investigating patterns asks for will under-score while knowing the content. This is the most common diagnostic request from the Mirdif cluster below Diploma level.

Arabic and the mandatory UAE subjects

All years

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral studies are required in all Dubai private schools whatever the licensed curriculum. KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes for both groups are prohibited. Support here follows the school's own stream.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways a Mirdif family can run IB support, all of them delivered over live video. The choice is about frequency and purpose rather than about location, because location has already been taken out of the equation.

Weekly one-to-one by subject

One sixty- or ninety-minute session per subject per week, running alongside the school's own teaching sequence. This is the default for a Diploma student carrying one or two difficult HL subjects, and it works because the tutor sees the same student often enough to notice a pattern rather than a bad day. Scheduling is fixed to one weekday slot so it survives a busy term.

  • Session time set around the student's actual school-run return, not a standard slot
  • Shared screen for past-paper work, with the student writing rather than watching
  • A short written note after each session naming what to practise
  • Pausable during mock weeks and school assessment blocks

Internal Assessment and Extended Essay process coaching

Blocks of sessions timed to the school's internal deadlines rather than to a weekly rhythm: topic viability, research question, method, draft feedback against the published criteria, and reflection. The tutor teaches the method and questions the argument. The student writes every word, because the IB requires the work to be their own and the penalty for anything else falls on the student.

  • Topic narrowing before the research question is fixed
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • Referencing and the academic-honesty requirements of the school
  • Planning backwards from the school's submission date

Intensive exam-run support

Two or three sessions a week in the weeks before the May session or a school mock, built entirely around timed questions and mark schemes. Useful when the content is broadly in place and the loss is in exam technique, pacing or command-term reading. Less useful when a whole topic is missing, in which case a weekly plan started earlier is the better instrument.

  • Timed papers sat under real conditions and marked against the published scheme
  • Per-topic error log so revision targets the actual gap
  • Paper-by-paper pacing drills, including HL Paper 3 where it applies
  • Short daily check-ins in the final fortnight where that helps

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Mirdif

01

What "IB tutor near me" returns when you search it from Mirdif

Searched from a Mirdif address, the phrase returns a mixture of three things: tuition centres with premises somewhere in eastern Dubai, agency pages that list every community in the emirate including this one, and marketplace listings of individuals who have set their own radius. None of those results tells you the fact that matters, which is whether anyone in them has taught the specific subject at the specific level your child is sitting.

The honest answer to the search is that an IB tutor near me in Mirdif is, for most subjects, the wrong target. Proximity is a constraint, and a constraint always costs something. On a broad subject at a young age the cost is near zero, because many capable people can teach Year 7 maths. On IB Chemistry HL with an Internal Assessment due in eleven weeks, the cost is the difference between a specialist and the nearest available adult.

IB Gram removes the constraint by delivering every UAE lesson one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, scheduled around the Mirdif school run. There are no home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. What a Mirdif family gets instead is the whole pool rather than the twenty-minute slice of it, and a tutor matched to the subject and level rather than to the postcode.

The rest of this page tests that claim by comparison. It sets Mirdif against the communities next to it, prices the radius, prices the alternatives, and sets out what a tutor may and may not do with assessed work. If the comparison came out differently for Al Mizhar or Al Warqa than for Mirdif, it would say so. It does not.

02

Mirdif against the community next door, line by line

The eastern suburbs are not interchangeable. They differ in density, in school mix and in how long the car journey takes at the hour a tutoring session would start. The table below sets out those differences for the nine communities in this cluster, using the practical facts a tutoring plan actually turns on.

Read down the final column and the pattern is clear. What varies between Mirdif and Al Khawaneej is the hour a session can start and the school a student attends. What does not vary is the recommendation. A Chemistry HL student in Al Khawaneej needs the same kind of specialist as a Chemistry HL student in Mirdif, and neither of them is well served by a radius search.

That symmetry is why this page does not pretend Mirdif is unique. It is a well-established eastern suburb with a dense school market, good road access along Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and Ras Al Khor Road, and a mixed curriculum profile. Four of its neighbours could be described the same way. The differences are real and small; the subject-match problem is real and large.

One caveat on drive times: the figures below are typical weekday afternoon ranges, not promises. School-run traffic in this part of Dubai varies with the academic calendar, roadworks and the time the nearest school releases. Treat them as planning estimates and confirm against your own week. Because every UAE lesson here runs over live video, those drive times matter only for working out when a student is home and settled, not for whether a tutor can reach the door, and that is the one respect in which the comparison below is easier than it looks.

Pricing the radius: what a twenty-minute circle actually costs

  • Ask any provider how many of their tutors have taught your child's exact subject at that exact level
  • Ask how a replacement would be found if the match ends mid-term
  • Ask what happens to the rate if travel is involved
  • Ask whether the quoted time is sixty minutes of teaching or sixty minutes including travel

A search radius is a filter, and every filter removes candidates. The question worth asking is what each ring of the circle removes. The table below describes what happens to the available pool as the radius widens from one community to no limit at all, in terms a parent can test by asking any agency the same questions.

The pattern is not linear. Going from Mirdif alone to the whole eastern cluster adds a lot, because it adds several school catchments and therefore several ex-teacher populations. Going from the cluster to the whole of Dubai adds less than you would expect, because the scarce thing is not people who tutor but people who have taught one named IB subject at one named level through a full cycle, with Internal Assessment supervision experience. Removing the geographic limit entirely is the step that changes the answer for narrow HL subjects.

There is a second cost to the radius that does not show up in a pool count: scheduling. A tutor travelling between homes in eastern Dubai can take perhaps three or four students in an afternoon, and the slots they can offer are shaped by the route rather than by your child's school release time. A tutor teaching over video can start at 16:30 for a Mirdif student and 17:30 for one in Al Khawaneej without either of them being a compromise.

The third cost is replacement. If a tutor matched on proximity stops being available, the replacement has to satisfy the same radius, which is why in-home arrangements in a single community so often end with a change of subject specialism rather than a change of tutor. An online match has a wider bench behind it.

What a month of IB tuition costs around Mirdif, in AED

Start from the monthly number, because that is the figure a household budget is actually built on. Published market estimates for a weekly one-hour session in Dubai put a budget arrangement at roughly AED 240-600 a month, a mid-tier qualified subject tutor at AED 600-1,200, and specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000-2,000 or more, according to Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table. Monthly packages advertised in this market include online plans from around AED 799 for eight sessions and in-home plans at AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour visits.

Convert those to hourly and the bands become easier to compare against a quote. Budget online and university-student tutoring is quoted from AED 45-150 an hour, with EdFlik advertising from AED 45-65 and Tutopiya from AED 33-52. A qualified subject tutor online sits at AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. An in-home one-to-one visit including travel runs AED 180-500, with Bestimate quoting 180-350. IB, IGCSE and A-Level specialists are quoted at AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270. Premium named or examiner-led tutoring reaches AED 500-650 and beyond, with BartyED at AED 650.

Two things a Mirdif parent can verify independently. The in-home band starts higher than the online band at every tier, and the difference is not teaching quality, it is a car. And several providers in this market publish no price at all, which is worth noticing: one of the strongest pages currently ranking for Dubai IB tutoring asks the price question in its own FAQ and then declines to answer it.

These are market figures, dated and attributed, not an IB Gram price list. Our own rate depends on subject, level and session length, and the trial lesson is free, so the sensible order is trial first and numbers second. Set the market bands beside Dubai school fees for context: KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year.

Online against an in-home visit for an eastern-suburbs family

This is the comparison most Mirdif parents are actually running, and it deserves a straight answer rather than a sales line. An in-home visit has genuine advantages: a younger child concentrates better with an adult physically present, a parent can see what happened, and there is no device to manage. For primary-age support those advantages are real and a family who wants them should weigh them properly.

Against that, an in-home arrangement in the eastern suburbs prices travel into every hour, limits the tutor pool to whoever will drive to Al Khawaneej at five in the afternoon, and makes a mid-term replacement hard. It also tends to produce round-trip bookings of two hours, because nobody drives twenty-five minutes for a single hour, which is why the advertised in-home monthly packages are built on four two-hour visits rather than eight one-hour sessions.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE, so this is not a choice we are selling either way. Home visits are an India-only service for us. What we can do is set the two models side by side on the dimensions that differ, and let a Mirdif family decide whether the trade is worth making for their child's age and subject.

For Diploma-level work the trade is usually one-sided. A Maths AA HL student working through a Paper 3 question benefits far more from a specialist who has marked that paper's style than from any seating arrangement. For a Year 4 reading intervention the calculation is different, and an honest page should say so.

The Diploma assessment pieces that make proximity irrelevant

  • Every Diploma subject has an Internal Assessment with published criteria the student can read
  • HL papers carry extension components with distinct technique, not just more content
  • TOK and the Extended Essay are worth up to three points on the 45-point scale
  • Support on all three is about method and criteria, which do not vary by community

It is worth being concrete about why subject match beats distance, rather than asserting it. Take the three assessment components that most often decide a Diploma point total and look at what help each one needs.

The Internal Assessment comes first. Every Diploma subject has one, it is marked by the school against published criteria and moderated by the IB, and it is written over months rather than in an exam hall. Useful support here is criterion literacy: knowing that a Biology exploration needs a measurable independent variable, that a Maths exploration is marked partly on personal engagement and mathematical communication, that a History investigation allocates specific marks to evaluation of sources. None of that knowledge is distributed by neighbourhood.

Second, the HL extension papers. Maths HL Paper 3 is two extended problem-solving questions; Physics and Chemistry Paper 3 carry data-analysis and option material; History HL Paper 3 is three essays in two and a half hours. These papers have their own technique, and the people who can teach it are those who have seen a lot of student attempts at them. In a twenty-minute radius around any single Dubai community there may be nobody who has.

Third, Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, worth up to three points between them. A student loses those points to process failures far more often than to weak thinking: a prescribed title answered as a topic, a research question too broad to answer in 4,000 words, a reflection written the night before. Process coaching is a teachable skill and a specialist one. The student writes the work; the tutor teaches the method and asks the hard questions about the argument.

Who regulates your child's school, and what the inspection band means

A Mirdif family deals with KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai. It inspects private schools annually and publishes a rating on six bands from Outstanding down to Very Weak. If your extended family lives elsewhere in the country, they deal with a different body, and the differences are substantive rather than cosmetic.

The regulator map for UAE private schools is complete and short. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain sit with ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. Sharjah sits with the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which regulates private education there. Ras Al Khaimah has its own Department of Knowledge. Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah sit with the federal Ministry of Education. In Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah the authority approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so the emirate regulator does more than inspect.

What an inspection band does and does not tell a parent is worth stating plainly. It is a judgement about a school across many measures, published for a given year. It is not a prediction about one child in one HL subject. A student can be two grades below their potential in Chemistry at a school rated Outstanding, and that is the situation tutoring addresses. Read the band as context and the subject report as the signal.

On our own status, the position is simple and we will not blur it. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific authorisation issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai, with initial approval, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. We do not hold one and we do not claim one.

Academic honesty: the line a tutor does not cross

This matters more in the IB than in most systems, because so much of the grade is coursework the student produces away from an exam hall. The IB treats the Internal Assessment, the Extended Essay and the TOK essay as the student's own work, and a breach is handled as malpractice. The consequence falls on the student, not on whoever helped. Any parent in Mirdif comparing providers should treat this as a screening question.

What a tutor may legitimately do is substantial. Teach the subject content the assessment rests on. Explain the published criteria and what each one is asking for. Discuss whether a proposed topic is viable at this length. Question a research question that cannot be answered with the data available. Read a draft the student has written and say which criterion is under-served and why. Teach referencing. Help plan backwards from the school's deadline. Ask the uncomfortable question about an argument that does not hold.

What a tutor may not do is write, redraft to completion, or supply text that ends up in the submission. There are operations in this market that sell completed Internal Assessments outright, at prices around AED 3,750. That is an academic-integrity breach and an IB malpractice trigger, and a page that offers it is telling you what it is. We will not produce assessed work for a student at any price, and we will say so in the first conversation.

The practical version for a Mirdif family: ask the provider directly whether they will write an IA. A provider who hedges has answered. A provider who says no, and then explains what they will do instead, has given you something you can rely on when a deadline gets close and the temptation gets real.

09

Starting from Mirdif: the honest sequence

  • Send school, year, subjects with levels, recent grades and the published IA dates
  • Use the free trial on a topic that is genuinely causing difficulty
  • Expect a longer wait for niche HL options, and a straight answer if nobody is free
  • Book the session time around the real school-run return, not a standard slot

The first step is not booking. It is writing down what you already know, because that is what makes a match accurate rather than approximate. The school, the programme year, the six Diploma subjects with HL and SL marked, the most recent subject report or predicted grades, the IA deadlines the school has published, and the earliest time your child is realistically home and able to think. Six lines of information remove most of the guesswork.

Then the trial. A free trial lesson exists so that a specific tutor and a specific student can test whether they work together on a specific topic, which is not something a profile page can tell you. Pick a real topic that is currently causing trouble rather than a general introduction, and ask for the tutor's read on it afterwards. If the read is vague, the match is wrong and should be changed without ceremony.

On availability, the honest position rather than the comfortable one. Mainstream Diploma subjects at SL and HL are usually matched quickly. Niche Higher Level options, some second languages and certain IA supervision requests take longer, and in those cases the right answer is a wait of a few days for the correct specialist rather than an immediate match with someone approximately qualified. If nobody suitable is free, we will say that instead of filling the slot.

Finally, timing. Support started in the term before an assessment does more than the same number of hours bought in the fortnight before it. That is not a scarcity line, it is how coursework and exam technique actually improve. If you are reading this in the week before a mock, start anyway, and use the sessions on technique and on the specific papers rather than on rebuilding a topic from the beginning.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Mirdif

The nine communities below sit inside or next to the Mirdif cluster. The notes are the operational detail that changes a tutoring plan: where a student is likely to be at school, and what the drive home does to a weekday session.

Mirdif

Villas on the inner streets and the Uptown and Ghoroob apartment blocks, with an IB continuum school and British-curriculum schools inside the community. Short school runs mean a 16:30 start is realistic on most weekdays.

Al Mizhar

Low-density villa community north of Mirdif, feeding primary schools inside Al Mizhar and secondary schools across the eastern suburbs. Families here often run two different curricula across two children at two schools.

Al Warqa

Large established villa district with a strong Indian-curriculum presence alongside British and IB schools nearby. Diploma students here frequently travel out of the community for school, which pushes sessions past 17:30.

Al Khawaneej

Spread-out villa and farm plots on the eastern edge, furthest from the Festival City and Academic City school corridors. The longest school run in this cluster, and the community where an evening session beats an afternoon one.

Al Rashidiya

Older residential area close to Dubai International and the Deira school belt. Good access to Festival City schools, with traffic around the airport roads shaping how early a lesson can start.

Nad Al Hamar

Sits between Mirdif and the Dubai Festival City corridor, with quick access to Ras Al Khor Road. Families here are typically five to twelve minutes from a Festival City school gate outside peak hours.

Dubai Festival City

Waterfront apartments and a cluster of IB and American-curriculum schools. A Mirdif student attending school here is in the car twice a day, which is exactly the time an online lesson does not consume.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

Dense apartment community with British-curriculum and Indian-curriculum schools, several running the Diploma alongside A Level. A common destination for eastern-suburbs secondary students.

Dubai International Academic City

University district with British-curriculum secondary schools on its edge. Sixth-form and Diploma students from Mirdif travel here, and the return journey is the reason their lessons start later than their siblings'.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Mirdif

Mirdif, Al Mizhar and Al Warqa

The schools inside and immediately around Mirdif cover the IB continuum, the British curriculum and the Indian curriculum within a few kilometres of each other. Students we support attend schools in this cluster; IB Gram has no affiliation with any of them. Published KHDA inspection ratings for each school are on khda.gov.ae and change year to year.

  • Uptown International School, Mirdif
  • Star International School, Mirdif
  • Ambassador School, Mirdif
  • GEMS Royal Dubai School, Al Mizhar
  • Al Mizhar American Academy for Girls
  • GEMS Our Own English High School, Al Warqa

Dubai Festival City, Silicon Oasis and Academic City

The secondary and sixth-form destinations for a large share of Mirdif students, reached along Ras Al Khor Road and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. Several run the IB Diploma and the British route side by side. Again, these are named as the local school ecosystem rather than as any relationship of ours.

  • Deira International School, Dubai Festival City
  • Universal American School, Dubai Festival City
  • GEMS Wellington Academy, Silicon Oasis
  • The Indian Academy, Dubai Silicon Oasis
  • Dubai English Speaking College, Academic City
  • GEMS Modern Academy, Nad Al Sheba

Schools are named here as local context for families in the Mirdif cluster; IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any school, school group or regulator.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Tell us the six lines

School, programme year, the six subjects with HL and SL marked, the most recent report or predicted grades, the school's published IA deadlines, and the earliest realistic session time from your community. That is enough to match a subject specialist rather than a general tutor.

  2. 02

We match on subject and level

The match is made against the exact subject at the exact level, with Internal Assessment supervision experience where the request involves one. Geography does not enter the decision, because lessons are delivered over live video and there is no journey to accommodate.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson on a real topic

A full one-to-one session at no cost, used on something currently going wrong rather than on introductions. You get the tutor's diagnostic read afterwards: what the gap actually is, how long it should take to close, and whether a weekly or an intensive pattern fits better.

  4. 04

Fix a weekly slot around the school run

A standing time that survives a busy term, set to when your child is home and able to concentrate. A Mirdif student might start at 16:30; one travelling back from Academic City might start at 17:15. The slot is built around the week that exists.

  5. 05

Review against the school's own calendar

Progress is checked against the school's assessment points and IA deadlines rather than against a generic schedule. If the match is not working, it changes. If the subject need shifts from content to technique as the May session approaches, the session plan shifts with it.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The radius is removed, not reduced

Live video delivery means the tutor pool for a Mirdif student is the whole specialist pool rather than the twenty-minute slice of eastern Dubai that a search radius returns. For a niche Higher Level subject that is frequently the difference between a specialist and the nearest available adult.

Matched by subject and level, not by postcode

Maths AA HL and Maths AI SL are different jobs requiring different experience, and the same is true across every Diploma subject. Matching starts from the syllabus line your child is actually sitting, with Internal Assessment supervision experience where the request calls for it.

Prices quoted as the market, with sources

The AED bands on this page are attributed to the providers and rate tables that published them, with the date stated. No invented statistics, no self-asserted ratings, no numbers presented as ours when they are not. Our own figure comes after a free trial, not before it.

An explicit academic-honesty line

A tutor teaches, explains criteria, questions arguments and gives feedback on the student's own draft. They do not write an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or TOK essay, at any price. In a market where completed coursework is sold openly, that boundary protects the student who would carry the consequence.

Scheduling built on the real eastern-suburbs week

Session times are set to when a student from Mirdif, Al Warqa or Al Khawaneej is actually home and awake, not to a template. Sessions pause for mock weeks and school assessment blocks, and shift for Ramadan timing where a family wants a post-Iftar slot.

Independent, and clear about what we are not

IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform. We hold no approval, accreditation or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, we have no UAE premises, and we name schools as local context rather than as relationships.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Mirdif: your questions answered

How far does a tutor have to live from Mirdif for it to matter?+

For an online lesson, not at all. Distance matters only when somebody has to travel, and nobody does: lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. What matters instead is time zone compatibility, so that a 16:30 or 18:00 slot works at both ends, and subject match. A tutor two streets away who has never taught Chemistry HL is a worse choice than a specialist who is not in Dubai at all. The question worth asking a provider is not where the tutor sits but how many full two-year cycles of your child's exact subject and level they have taught.

Is there any IB subject I cannot get help with from Mirdif?+

Mainstream Diploma subjects at both levels are matched routinely: the two Maths routes, the three sciences, English A, Economics, Business Management, History, Geography and Psychology. Harder to cover quickly are some second languages at Higher Level, a few smaller Group 6 arts options, and certain niche HL options within the sciences. For those the honest answer is a wait of several days for the right specialist rather than an immediate match with someone approximately qualified. If nobody suitable is available, we will tell you that rather than fill the slot and hope.

Does my child in Uptown Mirdif need a different tutor from one in Al Warqa?+

No, and that is the main finding of this page. The two students differ in what time they get home and often in which school they attend. They do not differ in what Maths AA HL requires, what the Internal Assessment criteria ask for, or how Paper 3 is marked. The tutoring recommendation comes out identical: match on subject and level, schedule around the real return time. The only practical consequence of the address is the session slot, which is why we ask for the earliest realistic start rather than assuming one.

What time can a lesson realistically start on a Mirdif school night?+

For a student at a school inside Mirdif, 16:30 is usually workable. For one travelling back from Dubai Festival City, 16:45 to 17:00 is more honest. For a student returning from Academic City or Silicon Oasis, 17:15 or later. These are planning estimates from typical weekday afternoon traffic in the eastern suburbs, not promises, and they shift with roadworks and the school's release time. Pick the slot from what your week actually looks like rather than from the earliest time that sounds efficient, because a session a tired child arrives late to is worth less than one half an hour later.

Why is the in-home rate higher in the eastern suburbs than the online rate?+

Because a car is priced into the hour. Published market figures for Dubai put in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180-500 an hour including travel, against AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor online and AED 200-450 and above for a specialist, per Bestimate's 2026 rate table and the providers' own pages. In-home bookings also tend to be two hours rather than one, since few tutors drive twenty-five minutes to Al Khawaneej for sixty minutes, which is why advertised in-home monthly packages are built on four two-hour visits at AED 1,599-1,799.

My child is at an IB school in Dubai Festival City but we live in Mirdif. Does that change anything?+

It changes the session time and nothing else. Tell the tutor both facts at the start: the school sets the assessment calendar, the internal deadlines and the teaching sequence, while home sets when your child can concentrate. A student doing two car journeys a day arrives home later and more tired, so a 17:00 start on two weekdays often works better than an earlier slot on three. The school's published IA deadlines matter more than the distance between the two places, and those are the dates a session plan should be built backwards from.

How many IB subjects should a Mirdif family start tutoring at once?+

One or two. A Diploma student is already carrying six subjects, the core and whatever else their week holds, and three weekly tutoring sessions on top of that tends to produce attendance rather than progress. Start with the subject where the gap is largest or the stakes are highest, usually a Higher Level subject with an Internal Assessment due. Add a second only once the first has a rhythm. If three subjects genuinely look weak, that is often a study-method or workload problem rather than three content problems, and the trial lesson is a good place to test which it is.

What should a Mirdif parent send before a first lesson?+

Six things, and they take a few minutes to gather. The school name and programme year. The six Diploma subjects with Higher and Standard Level marked. The most recent subject report or set of predicted grades. The school's published Internal Assessment and coursework deadlines. Any past paper or piece of marked work that shows where marks were lost. And the earliest time your child is home and able to think. That last one is the item parents most often leave out and the one that decides whether a weekly slot survives the term.

Can a tutor mark my child's Internal Assessment for them?+

No. An Internal Assessment is marked by the school against the published criteria and moderated by the IB, and the work must be the student's own. A tutor can teach the subject content, explain what each criterion is asking for, test whether a topic is viable at the required length, read a draft the student has written and say which criterion is under-served, and teach referencing. A tutor cannot write it, redraft it to completion, or supply text for it. Breaches are treated as malpractice and the consequence falls on the student, which is why the line is absolute rather than negotiable.

Does a Mirdif school's KHDA inspection band tell me whether tutoring is needed?+

Not directly. KHDA inspects Dubai private schools annually and publishes a rating across six bands from Outstanding to Very Weak. That is a judgement about a whole school for a given year, across many measures. It says little about one student in one Higher Level subject. Children are two grades below their potential at highly rated schools, and children thrive at schools rated in the middle of the scale. Read the band as context about the institution and read the subject report, the marked papers and the predicted grades as the signal about your child.

Do we need to check a MoHRE permit before hiring a tutor in Mirdif?+

It is a fair question to ask any individual tutor in the UAE. Private tutoring is regulated by permit: the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. Applications go through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

Will the mandatory Arabic and Islamic Education lessons clash with IB tutoring?+

They occupy timetable space, which is worth planning around rather than fighting. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral studies are required in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, with combined classes prohibited. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit. If one of these subjects is itself the weak point, support follows the school's own stream rather than a parallel syllabus.

Is a Mirdif tuition centre group class cheaper than one-to-one online?+

Usually yes per head, and that is the honest trade-off. A group class spreads the cost across several students and spreads the attention the same way, which works when the whole group needs the same broad revision at the same pace. It works poorly when one student's problem is a specific gap, a particular Internal Assessment, or Higher Level paper technique, because the class cannot stop for one person. Centres with premises in Dubai also operate under a different regulatory regime from individual tutors, including the KHDA permit route for training institutes. Compare on what your child's actual problem is, not on the hourly figure alone.

What happens if no specialist is free for the HL subject we need?+

We say so. The alternative is matching a student to someone approximately qualified and letting the family find out in week three, which costs more than a wait does. In practice the options are a short wait of a few days for the right person, a start on a related subject where the need is also real, or a recommendation to look elsewhere if the gap is one we cannot cover at all. No competitor page in this market publishes a coverage limit, which is exactly why a parent should ask for one before paying for anything.

Mirdif, Al Mizhar or Al Warqa: the same answer, for the same reason

The search that brought you here assumed distance was the variable. In the Mirdif cluster it is not. Run the comparison across all nine communities and what shifts is the hour a session can start; what stays constant is that a Diploma grade turns on whether the person teaching has taught that subject at that level and supervised that Internal Assessment. IB Gram delivers that match one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, with no home visits anywhere in the UAE. Send the school, the six subjects with their levels, the latest report and your earliest realistic slot, and take a free trial lesson on a topic that is genuinely going wrong.
