IB MYP Online Tutor in the UAE

An IB MYP online tutor in the UAE teaches the five Middle Years Programme years the way they are actually marked: four criteria per subject, each out of eight, reported as a grade from 1 to 7 with no public exam behind it. Lessons run live over video, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time, from Dubai and Abu Dhabi to Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain. This page prices that work in AED, names what drives the number, and says plainly what an hour can and cannot change.

  • Lessons run live over video, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time
  • Every AED figure here is a market rate, attributed to the source that published it
  • Tutors teach and give feedback; the Personal Project report stays the student's own work
  • Coverage in all seven emirates, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain included

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

What an MYP hour costs in the UAE, and what it has to buy

IB Middle Years Programme tuition in the UAE is the hardest tutoring purchase a parent makes, for one structural reason: there is usually no external exam to point at. A Diploma family can read a weighting - Paper 1 is worth this much, the internal assessment that much - and work out whether an hour was well spent. An MYP family gets a report card carrying four letters, four numbers out of eight, and a single grade from 1 to 7. Nothing on that page tells you which of the four is the problem, and almost nothing in the tutoring market is priced against it.

So the honest version of the cost question is not what an hour costs. It is what the hour is aimed at. Published rates across the UAE run from roughly AED 33 an hour at the budget online end to AED 650 for a premium named tutor, and the spread exists because providers are selling four different things under one word: homework supervision, topic re-teaching, criterion coaching and assessment mentoring. Buy the wrong one and the grade does not move, however many hours you pay for. Buy the right one in MYP 3 and you often need fewer hours in MYP 5.

The MYP is five years long - MYP 1 to MYP 5, roughly ages 11 to 16 - and that length is the whole opportunity. It is also where families waste the most money, because spending concentrates in MYP 5 when a child is suddenly close to the Diploma, and the criteria that were never taught properly in MYP 2 have by then become four years of habit. Criterion D in sciences is reflection on the impacts of science. A thirteen-year-old can learn to do that in six weeks. A sixteen-year-old who has written four years of conclusions without it needs considerably longer, and you will pay the exam-year rate for the privilege.

What drives the hourly number in this market is reasonably predictable. Subject group comes first: mathematics and sciences tutors are plentiful across Dubai and Abu Dhabi, while Design, Arts and the upper phases of Language acquisition are thin, and scarcity prices itself. Format comes second - a tutor who travels absorbs the drive into the rate, which is why in-home figures in the UAE sit at AED 180 to AED 500 while comparable online work sits at AED 150 to AED 300. Then comes seniority, then the year: a February booking in an exam-facing year costs more than the same help in September.

IB Gram delivers all of this as one-to-one online tuition over live video. We do not send a tutor to a UAE address - home visits are a service we run only in India. That is not a limitation dressed up as a feature; it is the reason a family in Ras Al Khaimah can book a Design specialist at all, and the reason an MYP 5 student in Khalifa City is matched on subject group rather than on who happens to live twenty minutes away. The comparison table further down this page makes that case on cost, travel time and tutor pool rather than on adjectives.

Everything priced on this page is market data, collected in October 2026 and attributed to whoever published it. IB Gram's own figure is not a published rate card, because the sensible number depends on subject group, year and how many hours you actually need - which is what the first lesson and a written plan are for.

At a glance

  • Four criteria per subject, each marked out of eight, giving 32 raw marks before the school converts to a 1-7 grade
  • Published UAE online rates: AED 33-150 budget, AED 150-300 qualified subject tutor, AED 200-450+ specialist
  • In-home rates in the UAE carry the travel: AED 180-350 (Bestimate) up to AED 200-500 for home tutors
  • MYP 4 and MYP 5 are where most UAE families start spending, and MYP 2 and MYP 3 are where the same money goes further
  • Many UAE schools run IGCSE in Years 10 and 11 instead of MYP 4 and MYP 5, which changes what you should buy entirely
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An MYP tutor has to know what sits either side of the five middle years, because a UAE family rarely stays in one programme for a decade. Below are the four IB programmes as UAE schools run them, with what each one means for a tutoring plan that starts in the middle years.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1 to MYP 5

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups, each assessed against four criteria lettered A to D and each criterion marked out of eight. Teaching is organised around key concepts, related concepts and six global contexts, with a statement of inquiry on every unit. Service as action runs throughout, interdisciplinary units join two subject groups, and MYP 5 carries the Personal Project. The five Approaches to Learning skill categories - thinking, communication, social, self-management and research - are reported separately in many schools.

In UAE schools the year labels collide: MYP 1 is Year 7 in a British-style school and Grade 6 in an American-style one, and MYP 5 is Year 11 or Grade 10 depending on the campus. Ask the coordinator which MYP year your child is in before booking anything, because a tutor planning for Year 11 IGCSE and a tutor planning for MYP 5 criteria are preparing for two different sets of marks.

PYPAges 3-12 · Pre-KG to Grade 5

Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary units, six organising themes and an exhibition in the final year. Assessment is descriptive rather than criterion-lettered, which is why the first MYP report card lands as such a shock: the vocabulary changes from learner-profile language to four criteria with numerical descriptors, and parents who understood the PYP report often cannot read the MYP one.

Several Dubai and Abu Dhabi campuses run the full IB continuum from PYP through to the Diploma, so a child can move from exhibition to MYP 1 without changing schools. The reading and research habits that the exhibition builds map directly onto MYP criterion B in individuals and societies, and a tutor who knows both can use that continuity instead of starting from nothing.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme

Six subjects at Higher or Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and creativity, activity, service. External examinations carry most of the grade, internal assessment the rest. The jump from criterion-referenced MYP marking to externally examined papers with published weightings is the single steepest transition in the IB, and it happens over one summer.

The MYP to IB Diploma transition is where UAE families spend most urgently and least efficiently. The decisions that matter - extended or standard mathematics in MYP 4 and 5, which sciences to keep, whether Higher Level is realistic - are made while the child is still in the middle years, and a tutor is more useful advising on that fork than rescuing a Higher Level choice made badly twelve months earlier.

CPAges 16-19 · Two years

Career-related Programme

Diploma Programme courses combined with a career-related study, a reflective project, a personal and professional skills course, service learning and a language-development requirement. It suits a student who wants IB rigour in two or three academic subjects alongside an applied qualification rather than the full six-subject Diploma.

Fewer UAE campuses offer the Career-related Programme than the Diploma, so it is worth asking in MYP 4 rather than discovering in MYP 5 that your child's school does not run it. For a student whose MYP grades are strong in two subject groups and weak across the rest, it is a route worth raising with the coordinator before the family starts buying hours to force a full Diploma.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The MYP has eight subject groups, not a subject list, and each group has its own four criteria with its own names. Below is what each group assesses and where UAE students most often leave marks behind. Tutoring is matched to the group and the criterion letters, not to a topic title from the textbook.

Mathematics

MYP 1-5 · standard and extended in MYP 4 and 5

Criteria A knowing and understanding, B investigating patterns, C communicating, D applying mathematics in real-life contexts. An MYP maths tutor spends most of the useful time on B and D, because A is drillable from a textbook and C and D are where UAE students lose marks: a correct answer with no justified general rule scores badly on B, and a modelling task with no comment on the limitations of the model scores badly on D.

Sciences

MYP 1-5 · integrated, then biology, chemistry and physics strands

Criteria A knowing and understanding, B inquiring and designing, C processing and evaluating, D reflecting on the impacts of science. An MYP sciences tutor works on the design of a fair test and the evaluation of method, not on content recall. Criterion D is the one almost nobody teaches explicitly, and it is a quarter of the subject's raw marks.

Language and Literature

MYP 1-5 · English, Arabic and other school languages

Criteria A analysing, B organizing, C producing text, D using language. Students who read well still lose criterion A marks for retelling the plot instead of analysing the writer's choices, and criterion B marks for an essay with no visible structural plan. Lessons use the school's own set texts, because the command terms differ by task and the task sheet is the mark scheme.

Language Acquisition

MYP 1-5 · phases 1 to 6

Criteria A listening, B reading, C speaking, D writing, with the standard of each set by the phase rather than the year group. A child can be in MYP 4 and phase 2, or MYP 2 and phase 5. Most UAE families book French, Spanish or Arabic as an additional language here, and the first useful thing a tutor establishes is which phase the school has placed the child in.

Individuals and Societies

MYP 1-5 · history, geography, economics strands

Criteria A knowing and understanding, B investigating, C communicating, D thinking critically. Criterion B is an actual research process with a question, a plan and an evaluation of sources, and it is marked separately from the content. UAE students who memorise case studies and never practise source evaluation routinely score well on A and badly on B and D.

Design

MYP 1-5 · digital and product design

Criteria A inquiring and analysing, B developing ideas, C creating the solution, D evaluating. The design cycle is the mark scheme: a beautiful final product with no documented research, no design specification and no testing against that specification scores poorly. Design tutors are among the scarcest in the UAE market, which is exactly where live online matching earns its place.

Arts

MYP 1-5 · visual arts, music, drama

Criteria A knowing and understanding, B developing skills, C thinking creatively, D responding. The process journal carries more marks than students expect, and criterion D asks for a response to the artwork of others as well as to their own practice. Online sessions work on the journal, the artist statement and the exploration of a stimulus rather than on technique drills.

Physical and Health Education

MYP 1-5 · theory and performance components

Criteria A knowing and understanding, B planning for performance, C applying and performing, D reflecting and improving performance. Criteria A, B and D are written work, which surprises families who assume the subject is graded on the field. A tutor can genuinely move three of the four criteria without ever watching the child play.

Interdisciplinary Units

MYP 1-5 · two or more subject groups combined

Assessed on its own criteria - evaluating, synthesising and reflecting - rather than on the criteria of either parent subject. Students treat an interdisciplinary unit as a double homework and lose marks for never explaining how the two disciplines together produced an understanding neither could reach alone. One session on that single idea is usually enough.

The MYP Personal Project

MYP 5 · goal, process journal and report

A self-directed project with a goal, a process journal kept throughout, a product or outcome and a written report, supervised by a school-appointed supervisor and marked against the criteria in the IB guide your school works from. MYP Personal Project support from a tutor is process coaching and feedback on the student's own drafts, and nothing else.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four ways UAE families buy MYP support, each priced differently because each is aimed at a different thing. The commonest mistake is buying the first one when the report card called for the second.

Weekly one-to-one, by criterion

A fixed slot in one subject group, planned around the two criterion letters that the last report flagged rather than around this week's homework. The tutor reads the task sheet before the session, and the session ends with the student having produced something markable against the descriptor. This is the pattern most MYP families settle into, and at UAE market rates for a qualified subject tutor online it is the predictable line in the budget.

  • One subject group, one 60-minute slot, same time each week on Gulf Standard Time
  • Planned against two named criteria, not a topic list
  • The school's own task sheets and texts, never a parallel syllabus
  • A short written note after each session saying what moved and what did not

A diagnostic block after the report card

Three or four sessions, bought once, to answer a specific question: which of the four criteria is actually costing the grade. A UAE parent holding an MYP report with four numbers out of eight usually cannot tell, and neither can a tutor who has not seen the marked work. This is the cheapest useful purchase in the MYP and the one families most often skip in favour of a year of weekly hours aimed at the wrong letter.

  • Three to four sessions, with a written finding at the end
  • Built around the child's own marked tasks and the teacher's comments
  • Ends with a recommendation, including the recommendation to book nothing further
  • Usually the right first purchase in MYP 1 to MYP 3

MYP Personal Project support

Process coaching through MYP 5 for the student's own project: narrowing a goal that is actually achievable, keeping the process journal as evidence rather than as an afterthought, planning the report against the criteria in the school's guide, and giving feedback on drafts the student has produced. The supervisor the school appoints remains the person who signs the work off, and the words in the report are the student's throughout.

  • Goal-setting sessions early in MYP 5, before the journal has gone cold
  • Feedback on the student's own drafts, spoken and in the margin, never replacement text
  • Help reading the criteria in the guide the school works from
  • An honest conversation about what the academic-honesty declaration commits the student to

The MYP to IB Diploma transition block

A short, dated block in the months around the end of MYP 5, aimed at the gap between criterion-referenced marking and externally examined papers. The work is specific: command terms as the Diploma uses them, the standard-or-extended mathematics decision and what it does to the Analysis and Approaches route later, and the reading load in Higher Level sciences. Booked once, in the right eight weeks, it is cheaper than a term of rescue in DP1.

  • Subject-by-subject mapping of what MYP 5 covered against what DP1 assumes
  • The extended-mathematics question answered with the child's actual MYP marks in hand
  • Practice in writing to a weighting rather than to a criterion descriptor
  • Scheduled in the summer window, not in October of DP1
Verified tutors

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in the UAE

The tutors below teach Middle Years Programme classes rather than generic middle-school content. That distinction matters because an MYP task sheet names criterion letters, a global context and a statement of inquiry, and a tutor who has never marked against those four descriptors will teach the topic and miss the mark scheme entirely.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What a UAE family is actually buying when they hire an MYP tutor

An IB MYP online tutor in the UAE is being paid to read a mark scheme the family cannot see. The MYP reports a grade from 1 to 7 per subject, built from four criterion scores each out of eight. The grade is the output; the four numbers are the diagnosis. Almost every provider in this market quotes an hourly rate for a subject - maths, physics, English - and almost none quotes against a criterion, which is why two families can pay the same rate for the same subject and get completely different value.

The second thing being bought is interpretation of the school's own task. MYP assessment is set by the school, moderated internally, and expressed on a task sheet carrying a statement of inquiry, a global context and the specific criterion strands being marked. That sheet is the mark scheme. A tutor who teaches the topic from a textbook and never asks for the task sheet is teaching in the dark, however well they know the content, and that is the commonest way an MYP tutoring budget produces nothing.

The third thing, and the one families value only in hindsight, is timing information. In the five MYP years there is no external deadline forcing anybody's hand - no entry deadline, no published exam window, nothing like the Cambridge or Pearson series dates that discipline an IGCSE year. The absence of a deadline is why MYP support gets postponed until it becomes Diploma rescue. Buying four sessions in MYP 2 to fix criterion B habits is a different purchase from buying thirty hours in DP1 to fix the same habits under exam pressure.

So the sensible way to read the rate table in the next section is as a price per diagnosis, not a price per hour. A tutor at AED 300 who identifies in two sessions that the problem is criterion C communication across every subject has sold you something. A tutor at AED 80 who marks homework for a year has sold you supervision, which is a real service and a different one.

MYP tutoring rates in AED, and why they sit below Diploma figures

Published UAE rates for one-to-one tuition run from about AED 33 an hour to about AED 650, and MYP work tends to land in the lower half of that range. The reason is supply, not difficulty: a competent graduate can teach MYP 2 mathematics content, whereas Higher Level Diploma chemistry needs a specialist, so the MYP pool is wider and the price softer. That is genuinely good news for a family in MYP 1 to MYP 3 and a trap in MYP 5, where criterion-literate teaching in a scarce subject group costs what Diploma teaching costs because it is the same scarcity.

Three of the six competitor pages in our October 2026 research published no price at all, and the two that did quoted in US dollars - a currency a UAE family does not transact in. The figures in the table below are therefore collected from the providers and rate trackers that did publish, each attributed, each read in October 2026. They are the market. They are not an IB Gram price list, because the number that matters for your child depends on subject group, MYP year and how many hours are actually needed, and quoting a flat rate before the first lesson would be guesswork dressed as pricing.

Read the monthly figures with particular care. A package advertised at AED 799 a month for eight sessions is about AED 100 a teaching hour, which looks like the budget tier until you check the session length and who is teaching. In-home packages at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour visits work out near AED 200 to AED 225 an hour, and a meaningful share of that is travel rather than teaching. Dividing any package by its actual teaching hours is the single most useful sum a parent can do in this market.

One piece of UAE context worth holding alongside these numbers: KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. School fees are flat this year. Tutoring spend is the variable line in a UAE education budget, which is an argument for planning it across five MYP years rather than reacting to one report card.

MYP criteria A to D, subject group by subject group

Here is the thing no competitor page in this market publishes: the actual criterion names. Each of the eight MYP subject groups is assessed against four criteria, lettered A to D, each marked out of eight, so every subject carries 32 raw marks before the school converts the total into a grade from 1 to 7 using the boundaries in the IB subject guide. The letters are the same across subjects. The names behind them are not. Criterion B in mathematics is investigating patterns; criterion B in design is developing ideas; criterion B in language acquisition is reading. They have nothing in common.

This is why a general tutor underperforms in the MYP even when their subject knowledge is strong. Teaching sciences criterion B means teaching the design of a fair test - variables, control, method a stranger could repeat - which is a research skill, not a content skill. Teaching individuals and societies criterion D means teaching the evaluation of a source's origin, purpose, value and limitation. Neither appears in a topic syllabus, and both are a quarter of the raw marks in their subject.

Use the table as a shopping list. Take your child's last report, find the subject group, read across to the criterion that scored lowest, and that is the phrase to put in your enquiry. A provider who can tell you how they would teach sciences criterion D, with an example, is selling teaching. A provider who answers with how many years of experience their team has is selling something else. We do not publish IB, Cambridge or Pearson guides, mark schemes or boundary tables on this site - they are the boards' copyright - but your child's coordinator has them and the task sheet quotes the relevant strands.

One caution on the final row. Interdisciplinary units are assessed on their own criteria rather than on those of either parent subject, and the Personal Project is marked against the criteria in the current IB guide your school works from. Guides are revised; confirm the live criterion set with the coordinator before anybody plans a session around it.

Which criterion repays paid hours, and which one does not

  • Drillable and cheap to fix: knowing and understanding, in whichever subject group it appears as criterion A
  • Best value per hour: the inquiry, investigation and design criteria, which need four to six corrected attempts
  • One session and a checklist: the communication criteria, where marks go on notation, labelling and referencing
  • Slowest to move: the reflection criteria, which are a habit rather than a technique
  • Not worth paid hours at all: content a quiz app, a revision guide or the school's own portal already covers

Not all four criteria respond to tutoring at the same speed, and a family on a fixed budget should know which is which before booking. Criterion A - knowing and understanding, under one name or another, in five of the eight subject groups - is the most drillable and the one most tutoring hours are spent on. It is also the one a motivated student can largely fix alone with the textbook and a fortnight. Paying AED 250 an hour for content revision that a quiz app would deliver is the most common waste in this market.

The research and process criteria are the opposite. Sciences criterion B, individuals and societies criterion B, design criteria A and B: these are procedures, they are taught by watching someone do them and then being corrected, and they are almost impossible to self-teach from a book because the student cannot see what is missing. Four to six focused sessions on one of these typically changes the mark pattern for the rest of the year, and the skill transfers to every later task in that subject group. On a per-hour basis they are the best buy in the MYP.

The communication criteria sit in the middle. Criterion C in mathematics and in individuals and societies rewards notation, labelling, referencing and structure - mechanical things, quickly fixed, but only once somebody shows the student what the descriptor actually wants. One session plus a checklist often moves it. The reflection criteria - sciences D, physical and health education D, arts D - take longer, because reflection is a habit of mind and a thirteen-year-old writing two reflective paragraphs a term will not build it in three weeks.

The practical rule for a UAE family: buy diagnosis first, buy the process criteria second, buy content last and buy it cheapest. And if a provider cannot tell you which criterion a proposed block of hours is aimed at, the block is not a plan.

05

Where MYP marks actually go missing

  • Maths: a pattern found but never justified or tested, and modelling with no comment on limitations
  • Sciences: a conclusion resting on a method with uncontrolled variables, and reflection left blank
  • Language and literature: plot summary offered where analysis of the writer's choices was asked for
  • Individuals and societies: case studies memorised, sources never evaluated for purpose and limitation
  • Design and arts: a finished product with no documented specification, testing or process journal

In mathematics it is criterion B. A student finds the pattern, states the rule, gets the answer right and scores in the middle band because they never justified the general rule or tested it beyond the cases given. The second loss is criterion D: a modelling task answered as a calculation, with no sentence on whether the model is reasonable or where it breaks. Both are visible in thirty seconds of looking at marked work, and neither is a content problem.

In sciences it is the method. Criterion B asks for a question, a hypothesis with reasoning, named independent, dependent and controlled variables, and a method somebody else could follow. UAE students who have done well in a content-heavy primary curriculum write excellent conclusions on top of a method that would not survive a repeat. Criterion D then asks for the implications of the science beyond the lab - and because it is rarely taught directly, it is routinely the lowest of the four scores on the report card.

In language and literature the loss is structural. Criterion A wants analysis of the writer's choices, and a strong reader who summarises the text instead sits in the middle band however fluent the prose. Criterion B wants a structure the reader can see. In individuals and societies the pattern repeats one letter over: strong on content, weak on criterion B investigation and criterion D critical thinking, because memorising a case study is not the same as evaluating a source's origin, purpose, value and limitation.

In design and the arts the marks go missing in the documentation. The design cycle is the mark scheme: research, a specification, ideas with annotations, a plan, testing against the specification you wrote. A good final product with none of that paperwork scores badly, and students are genuinely surprised by it. The same is true of the arts process journal, which carries more weight than the finished piece in most schools' task design.

06

Five years of spending, and where the dirhams do most work

The MYP is the longest run of school years in which a tutoring budget can be deployed with no external deadline forcing the timing, which is precisely why it is spent badly. The pattern we see from UAE families is a near-zero spend from MYP 1 to MYP 3, a small spend in MYP 4 when option blocks appear, then a sharp spend in MYP 5 when the Diploma becomes visible and the Personal Project has a date on it. It is the inverse of where the money works hardest.

Consider the arithmetic rather than the sentiment. Four diagnostic sessions in MYP 2 at the qualified-tutor end of the published range cost somewhere around AED 600 to AED 1,200 depending on who you book. Thirty hours of DP1 rescue at the specialist rate, at AED 270 as TutorChase publishes it, is roughly AED 8,100 - and buys you the same criterion habits, three years later, against a clock. The cheap intervention is early, narrow and aimed at one criterion. The expensive one is late, broad and aimed at a grade.

The second structural point is that MYP 4 is where the irreversible decisions sit, not MYP 5. Standard or extended mathematics, which subject groups to carry, whether a Higher Level science is realistic in two years: those are MYP 4 conversations in most UAE schools, and a tutor who has seen the child's criterion scores is worth more as an adviser in that term than as a weekly teacher the following year. Families who book one honest advisory block in MYP 4 frequently spend less overall across the five years.

The table below sets out the pattern we actually see against the pattern that uses the same money better. Hours are indicative, in teaching hours per term, and assume one subject group at a time rather than three at once - which is the other reliable way to overspend.

MYP 4 and MYP 5, or IGCSE instead: the UAE fork that changes your bill

  • Ask the coordinator in writing: is my child assessed on MYP criteria or entered for an external IGCSE series?
  • Dubai's roll in 2024-25: 37 per cent UK curriculum, 26 per cent Indian, 14 per cent US, 7 per cent IB, across 17 curricula
  • MYP 5 has no external entry deadline; a Cambridge or Pearson series has one months before the papers
  • A hybrid school may run MYP 1-3 then IGCSE in Years 10 and 11, with no Personal Project at all
  • Entry, tiering and timetable zone are the school's responsibility, but the consequences land on your child

Before you buy a single hour, establish what your child's school actually teaches in the last two middle years. A significant number of UAE schools that run the MYP in the early years switch to Cambridge or Pearson IGCSE for Years 10 and 11, either because parents want an externally examined certificate at sixteen or because the school's licensed curriculum is British with IB layered on top. Dubai's private roll is 37 per cent UK curriculum against 7 per cent International Baccalaureate, so the pull in that direction is strong and the hybrid is common.

The consequence for a tutoring budget is complete. An MYP 5 student is working towards internally assessed criterion scores, a Personal Project and possibly on-screen eAssessment. A Year 11 IGCSE student is working towards a dated external examination with a syllabus code, published papers and an entry deadline that falls months before the exam. Cambridge's March 2027 series, as Cambridge itself publishes it, runs from 3 February to 4 March 2027, with final entries due on 27 November 2026 and forecast grades due on 27 February 2027. There is nothing comparable in the MYP calendar.

So the first question in an enquiry is not which subject but which assessment. If the answer is IGCSE, a tutor should be talking about syllabus codes, paper structure, tiering and the entry deadline. If the answer is MYP 5, the same tutor should be talking about criterion strands, the process journal and the interdisciplinary unit. A provider who gives you the same answer either way has not read the question, and an IGCSE revision plan sold to an MYP 5 family is thirty hours aimed at papers the child will never sit.

Cambridge also allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones and warns that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, because it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. If your child is on the IGCSE side of the fork, that is a fact worth checking with the school's exams officer this term rather than in May.

08

The Personal Project, and the line a paid tutor must not cross

The Personal Project in MYP 5 is the only MYP component with a hard internal deadline, a formal supervisor and an academic-honesty declaration attached, and it is where the tutoring market in this region behaves worst. One site in our research sells finished internal assessments outright at AED 3,750. Under IB rules that is malpractice, and the consequence falls on the student rather than on the seller. Any provider willing to supply assessed work is telling you precisely how much they care about your child's record.

The honest boundary is clear and it is worth stating in full, because it is a genuine differentiator in this search result rather than a disclaimer. A tutor may help a student narrow a goal until it is achievable, explain what the criteria in the school's guide are asking for, ask the questions that make a vague process journal specific, review a draft the student has produced and say where it falls short, and teach the referencing conventions the report needs. A tutor may not supply sentences for the report, restructure it on the student's behalf, choose the goal, make the product, or edit the text into its final form.

That boundary is also where the value is. A supervisor in a UAE school may be carrying twenty-five project students alongside a full timetable, and the most common failure is not dishonesty but drift: a goal too broad, a journal written retrospectively in the last fortnight, a report that describes the product instead of evaluating the process against the criteria. Fortnightly process coaching from MYP 5 term one prevents all three, costs a fraction of a crisis block in term three, and leaves a document that is unambiguously the student's own.

Keep one more thing in view. We do not reproduce or supply IB guides, mark schemes or past material on this site; they are the IB's copyright and your coordinator issues the current versions. If a tutor offers you a guide as a download, that tells you something about their relationship with the rules your child is bound by.

eAssessment, Arabic and the other bills the MYP brings

  • Ask in MYP 4 whether the school enters students for MYP eAssessment or awards its own record of achievement
  • Arabic, Islamic Education and social and moral studies run alongside the MYP and are marked separately
  • Separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs are required in Arabic first language, Islamic Education and social studies
  • Mandatory-subject time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, with at least 25 minutes advised per lesson
  • Additional or different content in those subjects needs prior Ministry permission, so support uses the school's material

Two things sit on an MYP family's budget that almost nobody puts in a tutoring quote. The first is eAssessment. Some schools enter MYP 5 students for the IB's on-screen examinations and ePortfolios leading to the MYP certificate, and others award the school's own MYP record of achievement and move straight on. Whether your child sits anything externally is a school decision, not a parental one, and it changes a revision plan completely. Ask the coordinator which route the school uses, and ask in MYP 4 rather than MYP 5. We do not publish IB session or results dates on this page, because ibo.org blocks automated checking and an unverified date is worse than no date; confirm every one with the coordinator.

The second is the Ministry subjects. Arabic, Islamic Education and social and moral studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA required those arrangements to be in place by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. They are not MYP subject groups, they are not marked on criteria A to D, and they appear on the report card all the same. A family budgeting for MYP support and discovering in Year 9 that Arabic as a first language needs its own weekly hour has simply not been told.

The rules around those subjects are specific enough to matter. KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and social studies, and states that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, and KHDA advises that any mandatory-subject lesson should run at least 25 minutes.

One consequence for tutoring: for those subjects, KHDA states that the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited. Support for Arabic, Islamic Education or social studies therefore works on the school's own material and the school's own stream placement. A tutor offering a parallel Arabic curriculum is offering something the school cannot use.

Live one-to-one online for an eleven-to-sixteen-year-old

Families searching for MYP help in the UAE usually picture somebody at the dining table. The market will sell you that: published in-home rates run from AED 180 to AED 500 an hour, with monthly packages at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour visits. IB Gram does not sell it anywhere in the UAE. Our tuition is delivered one-to-one over live video, and home visits are a service we run only in India. The case for that is not convenience, it is who your child gets taught by.

A search by distance returns whoever is within a twenty-minute drive. For MYP mathematics in Dubai Marina that is a reasonable pool. For MYP design, upper-phase language acquisition, visual arts or an interdisciplinary unit in Al Ain, Fujairah or Umm Al Quwain it is frequently nobody at all, and the family ends up paying a specialist rate for a generalist because the generalist was nearby. Removing the drive-time filter is what makes a subject-group match possible, and in the MYP the subject group is the whole point.

There are real advantages at this specific age, too. An eleven to sixteen-year-old works on a screen anyway, and MYP evidence is largely digital: a process journal, a design portfolio, a shared document, a spreadsheet of results. Screen-sharing a journal and annotating it live is better than reading it over somebody's shoulder. Sessions are recorded or summarised in writing, so a parent can see what happened without sitting in. And a child in the house with a parent in the next room is a safeguarding arrangement many UAE families prefer to a stranger in a bedroom.

The honest costs of online delivery are the ones to plan for: a quiet room, a stable connection, a headset, and a tutor who can hold the attention of a thirteen-year-old over video, which is a real skill and not every subject specialist has it. That last point is what the first lesson is for, and why we would rather you judge a match on one session than on a biography.

When no MYP specialist is free, and what that does to the price

  • Usually matched quickly: MYP maths, sciences, English language and literature, individuals and societies
  • Slower to match: design, visual arts, music, physical and health education theory, language acquisition phases 5 and 6
  • If nobody suitable is free, you get a date, an alternative or a recommendation to look elsewhere - before paying
  • 4pm and weekend-morning slots are matched faster than the 5pm to 8pm peak
  • Ramadan patterns are agreed in advance, with sessions moved rather than cancelled

No competitor page in the ten query clusters we researched discloses a coverage limit, and several conceal non-UAE delivery behind an overseas phone number. Here is ours, plainly. MYP mathematics, sciences, English language and literature and individuals and societies are the subject groups we can usually match within a few days. Design, visual arts, music, physical and health education theory and the upper phases of language acquisition take longer, and for a specific combination - MYP 5 design with a Diploma transition in view, say - there are weeks when nobody suitable has a free slot in UAE evening hours.

What we do in that situation is tell you, before you pay anything. The options are a waiting list with a date, a different subject group now and the scarce one later, a shorter diagnostic block with a tutor who covers the adjacent group, or a recommendation to look elsewhere. What we will not do is put a generalist in the slot at a specialist price and let you find out in week four. That is the failure mode families describe most often when they arrive from another provider, and it is entirely avoidable by saying no.

Timing changes availability as well as price. Gulf Standard Time evening slots between 5pm and 8pm are the busiest hours in this business, and a family that can take a 4pm or a weekend-morning slot will be matched faster and with more choice. The weeks after a UAE term report are the hardest to book into, because every family is reacting to the same document at the same time. Booking a diagnostic block a fortnight before reports go out, rather than the week after, is a free upgrade in choice.

Ramadan shifts the whole week. Many UAE families move sessions to post-Iftar slots or to the late morning, school hours compress, and a weekly plan built for an ordinary term stops fitting. We reschedule rather than cancel, and the sensible approach is to agree in advance what the Ramadan pattern will be instead of renegotiating it week by week.

Permits, inspection reports and the two documents to read before you spend

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE's own service page, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

Two things follow for a parent. The permit is free, so any provider presenting licensing as a cost inside your hourly rate is adding a line that does not exist. And individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws - no schedule of amounts is published, so treat any specific figure you are quoted as unverified. In Abu Dhabi there is a further constraint: ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students at their own school, so the offer of your child's own teacher, privately, is one to decline.

The second document to read is your school's inspection report. KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai; ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi; the Sharjah Private Education Authority and Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge regulate private education in their emirates and approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods; and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. An inspection report names the subject departments that are weaker, which is better targeting information than any tutoring advertisement.

IB Gram holds no permit, licence or accreditation from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and nothing on this page should be read as implying one. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai would need a KHDA educational services permit for a training institute; we run no UAE premises and claim no such permit. What we can do is tell you what to ask for and where to verify it, which is the part no advertisement covers.

Where we tutor

Where MYP families are, emirate by emirate

MYP provision is not spread evenly across the UAE, and neither is tutor supply. The regulator changes at the emirate border, the school-run timing changes what hour a session can start, and in four emirates the realistic choice is a live online slot or a long drive. Here is the picture, emirate by emirate.

Dubai

Regulated by KHDA, with 227 private schools and 387,441 students in 2024-25 across 17 curricula. IB programmes account for 7 per cent of that roll, so MYP specialists exist but are concentrated in a handful of communities. An online MYP tutor in Dubai removes the Al Khail Road problem from a 4pm slot entirely.

Abu Dhabi

Regulated by ADEK, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, so the teacher-who-knows-the-class shortcut is not available here. Sessions from Khalifa City, Al Reef and Saadiyat usually settle at 5pm or later.

Al Ain

Also under ADEK. MYP provision is thinner than in Abu Dhabi city, and the drive to the coast is not a weekly option for a Wednesday evening lesson. Subject groups that are scarce nationally - Design, Arts, upper-phase Language acquisition - are effectively unavailable locally, which is where live video stops being a compromise.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in the emirate and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. A Sharjah family commuting to a Dubai campus loses the 4pm to 6pm window to traffic, so MYP sessions here are commonly booked at 7pm or at the weekend.

Ajman

Private schools here sit under the federal Ministry of Education, which supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. MYP enrolment is small, so most families searching for an MYP tutor in Ajman are supporting a child who commutes to a Sharjah or Dubai campus and gets home late.

Ras Al Khaimah

The Department of Knowledge regulates private education in the emirate and, like Sharjah, approves fees, curricula and assessment methods. Ras Al Khaimah returned zero mentions across the entire competitor corpus we reviewed, which tells you how much local MYP tutoring supply there is to compete for.

Fujairah

Under the federal Ministry of Education. The east coast is the clearest case for online delivery in the country: a specialist in a scarce MYP subject group is not going to be found within driving distance, and the same session that would cost ninety minutes of road time costs nothing extra over video.

Umm Al Quwain

Also supervised by the federal Ministry of Education. The smallest private-school market in the UAE, and another emirate absent from every competitor page in our research. Families here are usually planning a move into a Sharjah or Dubai programme, which makes the transition conversation more useful than a weekly homework hour.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai

Students we support in Dubai attend IB continuum campuses where the MYP runs from MYP 1 through to MYP 5 before the Diploma. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, three of them International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places - which means more MYP cohorts and the same thin pool of criterion-literate subject tutors.

  • Dubai International Academy, Emirates Hills
  • Dubai International Academy, Al Barsha
  • GEMS World Academy, Dubai
  • Uptown International School
  • Deira International School
  • Jumeirah Baccalaureate School
  • Swiss International Scientific School, Dubai

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

In the capital the regulator is ADEK rather than KHDA, and the MYP cohorts are smaller and more spread out - Khalifa City, Al Raha, Saadiyat and Al Bateen rather than one or two school corridors. Session timing matters more here than subject availability, because a 4pm start is rarely realistic for a family crossing the island.

  • Raha International School
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • GEMS World Academy, Abu Dhabi
  • Repton School, Abu Dhabi
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi

Schools are named here only as context for the programmes UAE families study. IB Gram claims no affiliation, endorsement or relationship with any school, group or regulator named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the criterion letters, not just the subject

Tell us the MYP year, the subject group and which of the four criteria scored lowest on the last report. Those three facts shorten the diagnosis by two sessions. If you cannot read the report card - most parents cannot at MYP 1 - send a photograph of it and the last marked task sheet instead, and we will read it with you.

  2. 02

We read the marked work before we quote anything

A rate quoted before anybody has seen the child's work is guesswork. We look at the task sheet, the teacher's comments and one marked piece, then say which criterion the hours should be aimed at, how many we think are needed, and whether a diagnostic block or a weekly slot is the right shape. Sometimes the answer is that tutoring is not what this needs.

  3. 03

One introductory lesson at no charge

The first lesson is free, and the conditions are these: one lesson, one subject group, 45 to 60 minutes, booked through the enquiry form, no card details required and no obligation afterwards. Its purpose is to test the match, because a specialist who cannot hold a thirteen-year-old's attention over video is the wrong tutor whatever their subject record says.

  4. 04

A written plan with hours, criteria and a review date

You get a short plan naming the criteria being targeted, the number of sessions, what will be different by the review point and the date of that review. Hours are agreed in blocks rather than open-endedly, so the decision to continue is made against evidence instead of inertia. Ramadan and travel patterns are built in at this stage, not improvised later.

  5. 05

Notes after every session, and an honest exit

A short written note after each session says what moved and what did not. If the match is wrong, say so and we change the tutor without an argument or a notice period. If the plan has done its job, we say that too and stop - a provider who never tells a family to stop buying hours is not advising, it is selling.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on subject group, not on postcode

Because lessons run over live video, the pool is not limited to whoever is within a twenty-minute drive of your community. For MYP design, arts and the upper phases of language acquisition that is the difference between a specialist and whoever was available, and in a criterion-marked programme the specialism is the whole value.

Teaching aimed at criteria, not at topics

Sessions are planned against the criterion letters the school is marking, using the school's own task sheets and texts. That is why a tutor asks for the task sheet before the first lesson. A parallel syllabus, however well taught, produces work the school's mark scheme cannot reward.

Every AED figure on this page has a source

Three of the six competitor pages we reviewed in October 2026 publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars. Each band here is attributed to the provider or rate tracker that published it, with the month it was read, and none of it is presented as an IB Gram price list.

The academic-honesty line is stated, not implied

A tutor teaches, questions, reviews and gives feedback on work the student has produced. The Personal Project report is the student's own throughout, and the supervisor the school appoints is the person who signs it off. One competitor in this market sells completed assessed work outright; we say plainly where the line is and stay on the right side of it.

Coverage stated honestly, including the gaps

If no MYP specialist in your child's subject group has a free UAE evening slot, we tell you before you pay and offer a date, an alternative or a recommendation elsewhere. No page in the ten competitor clusters we researched discloses a coverage limit at all, which is a strange thing to hide from a parent.

Five years planned, not one report reacted to

MYP support works best as a small, early, well-aimed spend across MYP 1 to MYP 5 rather than a large late one in MYP 5. The plan we write says which years to spend in and which to leave alone, which occasionally means recommending fewer hours than you asked for.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

What should a UAE family expect to pay for sixty minutes of MYP teaching?+

Published UAE rates in October 2026 span AED 33 to AED 650 an hour, and MYP work usually sits in the lower half. Budget online providers advertise from AED 33 to AED 65, qualified subject tutors online from AED 150 to AED 300, and specialists AED 200 to AED 450 and above. In-home figures run AED 180 to AED 500 because the drive is inside the rate. Those are market numbers attributed to the providers and rate trackers that published them, not an IB Gram price list. Our own figure depends on subject group, MYP year and how many hours are genuinely needed, which is what the first lesson establishes.

My son's MYP report shows four letters and four numbers out of eight. What am I looking at?+

Those are the four assessment criteria for that subject group, lettered A to D, each marked out of eight. Together they give 32 raw marks, which the school converts into the single grade from 1 to 7 using the boundaries in the IB subject guide. The letters mean different things in different subjects: criterion B is investigating patterns in mathematics, developing ideas in design and reading in language acquisition. The useful information is not the overall grade but which of the four is lowest, and whether the same letter is low across several subjects. That pattern is what a tutoring plan should be aimed at.

Is it worth paying for tutoring in MYP 1 when there is no external exam?+

Often yes, but for a narrow purpose and a small number of hours. The useful purchase in MYP 1 is not content support; it is teaching the child, and frankly the parent, what the four criterion descriptors are actually asking for. Four to six sessions is usually enough. A student who understands in MYP 1 that a conclusion needs an evaluation of method, and that a maths answer needs a justified general rule, builds habits that pay for the next five years. Thirty hours of content coaching at this age is almost always the wrong spend, because the content is the part a textbook covers perfectly well.

Which of the four MYP criteria is hardest to move with weekly lessons?+

The reflection criteria - sciences criterion D, physical and health education criterion D, arts criterion D. Reflection is a habit of thought rather than a technique, and a student who writes two reflective paragraphs a term has few chances to practise it. Expect a term, not three weeks. The fastest to move are the communication criteria, where marks go on notation, labelling, referencing and structure: one session and a checklist frequently changes the score. The best value per hour sits in between, on the inquiry, investigation and design criteria, which need four to six corrected attempts and then transfer to every later task in that subject group.

Our school teaches IGCSE in Year 10 instead of MYP 4. Does that change what we should pay for?+

Completely. An MYP 4 student is working towards internally assessed criterion scores with no external deadline. A Year 10 IGCSE student is working towards a dated external series with a syllabus code, published papers and an entry deadline months before the exam - Cambridge's March 2027 series, for example, runs 3 February to 4 March 2027 with final entries due 27 November 2026. The tutoring is different work: criterion strands and process journals on one side, paper structure, tiering and timed practice on the other. Ask the coordinator in writing which assessment your child is actually entered for before you buy anything.

How many hours of MYP maths support does a UAE family usually book in a term?+

It depends far more on the year than on the subject. In MYP 1 to MYP 3, four to ten teaching hours a term aimed at one criterion is a realistic plan and frequently enough. In MYP 4, when option choices and the standard-or-extended mathematics decision appear, ten to fourteen is common. In MYP 5, with the Personal Project and Diploma choices running at the same time, fourteen to twenty. Those figures assume one subject group at a time. Families who book three subjects simultaneously in MYP 5 usually spend the most and see the least, because nothing gets enough continuous attention to change.

Where exactly is the line between Personal Project help and malpractice?+

Yes, within a clear boundary. A tutor may help narrow a goal until it is achievable, explain what the criteria in the school's guide ask for, press a vague process journal for specifics, give feedback on a draft the student has produced and teach the referencing conventions the report needs. A tutor may not supply sentences, restructure the text, choose the goal, make the product or edit the report to a final version. The school-appointed supervisor signs the work off, and the student signs an academic-honesty declaration. Any provider offering to hand over finished assessed work is putting your child's record at risk, not helping.

What does the MYP interdisciplinary unit grade actually depend on?+

On its own criteria - evaluating, synthesising and reflecting - rather than on the criteria of either contributing subject group. That is the detail students miss. They treat an interdisciplinary unit as two homeworks and produce good science beside good geography without ever explaining how the two disciplines together produced an understanding neither could reach alone. That explanation is the marked thing. One session on the structure of a synthesis paragraph usually fixes it, and the gain carries to every interdisciplinary unit afterwards. Ask your child's coordinator which subject groups are paired this year, because the pairing changes what evidence is needed.

Does my child need separate support for Arabic, Islamic Education and UAE social studies?+

Possibly, and it is a line most families have not budgeted. Arabic, Islamic Education and social and moral studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools whatever the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA required those arrangements from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. They are not MYP subject groups and they are not marked on criteria A to D, but they appear on the report. Support for them has to use the school's own material: KHDA states that different or additional content without prior Ministry of Education permission is strictly prohibited. Placement into the Arab or non-Arab stream is the school's decision, not yours.

Will MYP tuition prepare my daughter for Diploma Higher Level sciences?+

Only if it is aimed at the right things. Higher Level sciences assumes a reading load, a tolerance for extended written answers and a command-term fluency that MYP criterion marking does not force. The MYP work that transfers best is sciences criterion B and C - designing a fair test, processing data, evaluating method - because internal assessment in the Diploma rewards exactly those. Content coverage transfers least, since the Diploma syllabus restarts. The practical move is a short transition block in the summer between MYP 5 and DP1, mapping what was covered against what DP1 assumes, rather than a term of rescue in October.

Does MYP eAssessment change how much tutoring we should book?+

It changes what the tutoring is for, so ask early. Some schools enter MYP 5 students for the IB's on-screen examinations and ePortfolios leading to the MYP certificate; others award their own record of achievement and move straight to the Diploma. If your school enters students, timed on-screen practice and portfolio curation become real work in MYP 5. If it does not, that same budget is better spent on the Personal Project and the Diploma transition. It is a school decision, so put the question to the coordinator in MYP 4. We do not publish IB session dates here; confirm those with the coordinator too.

Is a cheaper MYP tutor at AED 60 an hour a false economy?+

Not automatically - it depends what you need. At the budget end of the published UAE range, from about AED 33 to AED 65 an hour, you are generally buying homework supervision and content re-teaching, and for a MYP 2 student who simply is not doing the work, that may be exactly right and good value. What you are unlikely to get is criterion literacy: somebody who can look at a marked task and say that the problem is criterion B rather than the topic. If the report shows uneven criterion scores rather than low marks across the board, the cheap hour will not touch it.

How do we tell whether MYP tutoring is working before the next report card?+

Do not wait for the report; it arrives too late to act on. Agree in advance what will be different at a review point four to six sessions in, stated against a criterion rather than a grade - a method section that names controlled variables, a maths investigation with a justified general rule, a journal entry written on the day. Then look at the child's own marked work against that. A written note after each session makes this visible. If nothing in the marked work has changed by the review point, the plan was aimed at the wrong letter and should be changed, not extended.

Can MYP lessons move to post-Iftar slots during Ramadan, and does that cost more?+

Yes to the first, no to the second. Ramadan compresses the UAE school day and shifts family routines, and many of our MYP families move sessions to post-Iftar evenings or to the late morning at weekends. Rates do not change for the timing. What helps is agreeing the Ramadan pattern in advance rather than renegotiating it week by week, because the popular post-Iftar slots fill quickly. Terms report deadlines and internal assessment dates set by the school usually do not move for Ramadan, so the sensible plan reduces frequency slightly and keeps continuity rather than pausing altogether.

What happens if no UAE-based MYP specialist is free for my child's subject group?+

You are told before you pay. MYP mathematics, sciences, English language and literature and individuals and societies are usually matched within a few days. Design, visual arts, music, physical and health education theory and language acquisition phases 5 and 6 can take longer, and some combinations have weeks with no suitable free slot in UAE evening hours. The options we offer are a waiting list with a date, a different subject group now and the scarce one later, a shorter block with a tutor covering the adjacent group, or a recommendation to look elsewhere. We do not fill the slot with a generalist at a specialist rate.

Does a private tutor in the UAE need a permit, and does that cost sit inside our rate?+

A permit is required and it costs nothing. The MoHRE private tuition work permit came in under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years; eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. So any provider presenting licensing as a cost inside your hourly rate is adding a line that does not exist. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no schedule of amounts is published.

What exactly is included in the free first MYP lesson?+

One lesson, one subject group, 45 to 60 minutes, at no charge, booked through the enquiry form with no card details and no obligation afterwards. Before it runs we ask for the last report card and one marked task sheet, because a lesson planned without them is a conversation rather than teaching. The purpose is to test the match: whether the tutor can hold your child's attention over live video and whether they can read the school's task sheet and say which criterion the work should target. Afterwards you get a short written view of what the hours should be aimed at, including when the answer is none.

Start with the criterion, not the subject

If you take one thing from this page, make it this: find the lowest of the four criterion scores on your child's last MYP report, and make that letter the first line of your enquiry. It will shorten the diagnosis, it will stop you buying content coaching for a process problem, and it is the question that separates a tutor who knows the Middle Years Programme from one who knows the textbook. Send us the report card, the subject group and the MYP year. We will read the marked work, tell you how many hours we think it needs, run the first lesson at no charge, and say plainly if the honest answer is that you do not need us.
