IB Tutor near me in Sobha Hartland

Typing IB tutor near me in Sobha Hartland into Google filters the market by distance, and distance is a price rather than a quality signal. In Dubai, proximity costs between roughly AED 30 and 150 an hour over the online equivalent and narrows the field to whoever will drive here at four in the afternoon. This page sets out what a Diploma actually costs to support, what the premium buys, and where the money goes to waste. Lessons are one-to-one and online.

IB & IGCSE in Sobha Hartland

Proximity is a price. Here is what it costs and what it buys

A near-me search is a filter, and it is worth understanding what you are filtering for. It does not return the tutors who know your child's subject best. It returns the ones who have told Google they operate in your area, and in a city where tuition is overwhelmingly delivered by individuals travelling between villas, that is a filter on willingness to drive. The result is priced accordingly, and the premium is measurable rather than theoretical.

In Dubai, in-home one-to-one tuition runs roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour, with the figure including travel. Qualified subject tutors working online sit at about AED 150 to 300, and specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above. Monthly packages tell the same story: around AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits against around AED 799 for eight online sessions. Those are other providers' published figures, read in October 2026, each attributed in the tables on this page. They are market context rather than IB Gram's price list; our pricing follows a free trial lesson.

Strip the arithmetic down and the proximity premium is somewhere between AED 30 and 150 an hour. Across a weekly session for a Diploma year that is a meaningful sum, and it buys three things: a car journey, a person in the room, and not having to set up a video call. For a seven-year-old the person in the room may matter. For a sixteen-year-old working on Higher Level paper technique it rarely changes anything, and the narrowing of the tutor pool that comes with it frequently does.

The more interesting question for a Sobha Hartland family is not the hourly rate at all. It is the total: what supporting a child through a two-year Diploma actually costs, where in those two years the money does the most work, and which spending patterns produce nothing. Most families never see that figure because they buy a month at a time and discover the total afterwards. This page puts it on the table, with a line-by-line budget, a priority order for a fixed amount, and the six patterns that waste money regardless of the rate paid.

IB Gram delivers one-to-one Diploma tuition to Sobha Hartland over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with the tutor matched to the subject and level rather than to the postcode. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. That is also why no travel premium appears in what you pay us, and why the pool you choose from is the whole market rather than the drivable part of it. Nothing on this page promises a grade; it gives you the figures and the order to spend them in, which is the part no competitor publishes.

At a glance

  • A near-me search filters by willingness to travel, not by subject expertise

  • Market bands: AED 150-300 online qualified, AED 200-450+ specialist, AED 180-500 in-home
  • The Diploma is six subjects plus three core components, so budget allocation matters more than rate

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

What a family should spend changes with the stage of the programme, not just with the subject. These three contexts carry very different cost profiles, and confusing them is the commonest reason a Sobha Hartland household overspends in one year and underspends in the one that mattered.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Each subject carries an internal assessment, and because the deadlines cluster, the weeks when one subject needs most attention are the weeks the student has least to give. This is the stage where spending decisions are largest and where allocating a fixed budget well matters more than finding a lower rate.

Diploma provision near Sobha Hartland is strong and the pool of tutors willing to drive into the community at four in the afternoon is not. That mismatch is what the proximity premium is really pricing: scarcity of availability rather than scarcity of skill, and paying it does not widen the choice.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Criterion-assessed rather than examined, with the Personal Project in the final year. MYP is where tutoring is cheapest to make count and where families most often spend nothing, then pay for it in DP1. A short block securing algebraic fluency or writing structure in Year 9 or 10 costs a fraction of the remedial work the same gap requires two years later.

Central-corridor schools running MYP typically offer both the Diploma and A Levels afterwards, so the end of MYP is a genuine decision point. Families who use one session to test readiness for Higher Level sciences, rather than assuming it, avoid the most expensive misplacement in the whole programme.

PYPAges 3-11 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led and transdisciplinary, ending in the exhibition. The honest cost advice at this stage is to spend little and spend narrowly: a defined block on reading fluency or number facts, then stop. Weekly one-to-one tuition across a primary year is the single least efficient purchase available in this market, and it is also one of the most commonly sold.

Hartland and the neighbouring communities have substantial primary provision and a competitive local tutoring market aimed at it. We will tell a PYP parent that a four-session block is enough when it is, which costs us the recurring revenue and is the correct advice.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

A Diploma budget is spent subject by subject, so the allocation question is which subject. These are the courses we cover for Sobha Hartland families, each with the specific place marks are lost, because that is what determines whether a session is worth a specialist rate.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Expensive to leave alone and cheap to fix early. Paper 1 is sat without a calculator, which exposes algebraic fluency, and Higher Level adds a third paper with its own style of problem that needs its own sessions rather than more of the same.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics and modelling led, with calculator competence examinable. Students lose marks explaining output they can generate, which is a technique problem and therefore among the faster and cheaper things to correct.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Two papers plus an independent investigation worth a fifth of the grade. Equilibrium reasoning, organic mechanism detail and significant figures in the data-based section are the reliable losses, and all three respond to marked practice.

Physics

HL and SL

Weak algebra costs Physics marks that have nothing to do with physics, which is why a maths block often lifts two grades. Uncertainty treatment is the least-taught and most-penalised area at both levels.

Biology

HL and SL

Precision of terminology outweighs calculation. A fluent but imprecise writer plateaus around a 5, and command-term discipline moves it faster than further content coverage, which makes it good value to address early.

Economics

HL and SL

The internal assessment commentaries land alongside other subjects' deadlines in DP1, so the cost here is often scheduling rather than teaching. Evaluation depth is what separates Higher Level marks from Standard Level ones.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Carries the Individual Oral and the Higher Level essay. Students lose marks describing texts rather than analysing construction, a habit that responds to a short, targeted block rather than to a year of weekly sessions.

Business Management

HL and SL

Frameworks are easy and evaluation is not. A student applying a tool without weighing it will sit mid-band indefinitely, and that is a technique loss, which is the cheapest category of problem to correct.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Few tutors teach it, so it carries a scarcity cost rather than a difficulty cost. Our support is structural: reading the prescribed title, building an argument, finding where the assessment instrument awards marks.

Extended Essay

Core

Four thousand words of independent research. The best money spent here is one early session narrowing the question, because a bad question cannot be rescued later by any number of paid hours.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all one-to-one online, described here by what they cost over a period rather than by what happens inside a session. For a cost-led decision the relevant number is the block total, not the hourly rate.

Weekly subject tuition

One subject, one tutor, one slot, four to five sessions a month. The lowest-cost format that reliably moves a Diploma grade, because it leaves time for practice between sessions and lets the tutor see whether the practice happened. Over two terms it costs less than most families expect and more than they budget for in a single month, which is why the total matters.

  • Four to five sessions a month in one named subject at one level
  • Named practice after each session, marked before the next
  • Half-term review against whether the grade is actually moving
  • Slot set after the school run, typically 4pm to 8pm Gulf Standard Time

Core and internal assessment block

Three to five sessions around an internal assessment, the Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge. This is the highest-value purchase per dirham in the whole Diploma, because a question narrowed properly in one session prevents a term of work on something unanswerable. The student chooses the question, does the work and writes the text; we explain criteria and give feedback on their own drafts.

  • Three to five sessions, fixed from the outset
  • Criteria explained in the language the examiner uses
  • Written feedback on the student's own draft; never rewriting
  • Timed to the school's internal deadline rather than ours

Pre-session intensive

Two or three sessions a week for six to ten weeks before the examination session. The highest monthly cost on this page and the shortest commitment, which is what makes it defensible rather than exploitative. Content order comes from the student's own marked mock, and some topics are deliberately abandoned because the window is short.

  • Eight to twelve sessions a month for an agreed number of weeks
  • First session spent marking the mock question by question
  • Whole papers under timed conditions in the subject's own format
  • Fixed end date, agreed in writing, with no automatic renewal

01

What proximity costs in this market, priced out

A near-me search deserves a near-me price list, so here it is. The table sets out the Dubai market by how tuition is delivered, with the provider that published each band named and the month we read it. Read the right-hand column rather than the left: the interesting information is not the rate but the size of the pool each rate draws from, because that is what the money is really buying or forfeiting.

Three observations. First, the proximity premium is real but modest in absolute terms, between roughly AED 30 and 150 an hour depending on which bands you compare. Over a weekly session across a Diploma year it adds up to a meaningful figure, but it is not the difference between affordable and unaffordable. Second, the premium is not a quality premium. There is no mechanism by which a drive to Sobha Hartland improves anyone's grasp of Higher Level Physics, and the market does not price for skill in this segment because it cannot observe it.

Third, and most consequentially, the pool column moves in the wrong direction as the price rises. The most expensive delivery model draws on the smallest geographically available group, which means a family paying the in-home premium may be paying more for a tutor whose actual specialism is something adjacent to what their child needs. That is the trade that the near-me filter makes on your behalf without telling you, and it is the whole reason this page exists.

What two Diploma years actually cost to support, line by line

Families buy tutoring a month at a time and discover the total afterwards. Seeing it in advance changes decisions, so the table below sets out a realistic two-year support plan with the market rates from this page applied. It is not a quotation and it is not our price list. It is an arithmetic exercise using published market bands, so you can see which lines are large and which are small.

What the exercise shows is that the lines most parents worry about are small and the lines they do not think about are large. A single internal assessment block is a few sessions. A one-session Extended Essay question review is almost nothing. The large line is open-ended weekly tuition in a subject nobody diagnosed, carried across both years because stopping felt risky. That one line can exceed everything else on the table combined, and it is the line that produces the least.

The second thing it shows is where the leverage sits. Money spent early in DP1 on a foundation gap is cheap and prevents expensive work later. Money spent on an internal assessment question before the work begins is cheap and prevents a term of wasted effort. Money spent in the eight weeks before the session is expensive per month and often necessary, because by then the problem is real and the clock is short. A family that spends in the first two windows generally spends less in the third.

Six ways Diploma tutoring money gets wasted

  • Duration bought before any diagnosis exists
  • Specialist rates spent on homework supervision
  • Economising in DP2 on paper technique and internal assessment feedback
  • Three subjects booked for one underlying weakness
  • Blocks renewing by default rather than ending on an agreed date
  • The proximity premium paid where presence changes nothing

Having priced the market and the programme, the useful part is naming the failures. These six patterns account for most of the money wasted on IB tutoring in Dubai, and none of them is solved by negotiating a lower rate. They are solved by a diagnosis, an end date and a willingness to have one uncomfortable conversation.

The first and largest is buying duration before diagnosis. A parent reacts to a bad grade by booking weekly sessions indefinitely, and nobody ever establishes what is losing marks. The second is paying a specialist rate for homework supervision, which is a real service worth real money but not specialist money. The third is the reverse: economising in DP2 on the paper technique and internal assessment feedback that actually decide the grade.

The fourth is booking three subjects when one weakness underlies all three, usually algebra under maths and two sciences, or writing structure under two essay subjects. The fifth is the block that renews because stopping feels like a risk, long after its purpose was met. The sixth is paying the proximity premium for a subject where it changes nothing, which at Diploma level is nearly every subject. Each of these is visible in a month if someone is looking, and invisible for two years if nobody is.

What makes them persist is that none of them feels like waste while it is happening. A weekly session that the student attends and the tutor delivers politely looks like progress even when no grade is moving, because attendance is easy to observe and diagnosis is not. The remedy is mechanical rather than clever: write down at the start what the block is for, and check at six weeks whether that specific thing has changed. If it has not, change the plan rather than extending it.

04

Online against nearby, compared on cost and on consequence

The comparison matters because a near-me search has already made half the decision for you. Set the two models side by side on cost, on who teaches, on how much of the hour is teaching, and on what happens when something changes, and the picture is clearer than either side's marketing suggests.

Cost favours online by the travel premium, which is the easy part. Matching favours online decisively, because the pool is the whole market rather than the drivable subset, and at Diploma level the subject and the level are what determine whether the hour is useful. Paid-hour efficiency favours online, because nothing in the arrangement absorbs a commute and the session can begin as soon as the student is home rather than when the tutor arrives.

Flexibility favours online by a wide margin, and in Dubai that converts into money. Ramadan timings, travel, examination weeks, a school trip: each of these costs a cancelled in-home session and costs nothing online. What in-home genuinely offers is presence, which matters for younger students and for the specific case of a teenager who will not work unless someone is physically there. That is a real category and we will not argue it away. To be unambiguous: IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE, so the comparison here is between our online delivery and a local arrangement you would make yourself.

One cost that rarely appears in either side's marketing is the cancellation. An in-home session cancelled at short notice usually still costs the family something, because the tutor has committed the slot and often the journey. An online session that has to move costs nobody a journey and is far easier to reschedule inside the same week. Across a Diploma year with mocks, school trips, travel and illness in it, that difference alone can account for several sessions' worth of money.

Six subjects, one budget: how to decide what gets funded

A Diploma student has six subjects and three core components, and almost no family can fund weekly support in more than one or two. So the allocation question is the real question, and it has a defensible answer rather than being a matter of taste. The priority order below is the one we would apply to our own children, and it is driven by what is irreversible rather than by what is worst.

First in the order is anything with a deadline that cannot be revisited. An internal assessment question chosen badly cannot be fixed in March. An Extended Essay built on an unanswerable question wastes a term regardless of how much is spent later. These interventions are small, cheap and time-sensitive, which makes them the clearest value on the whole list.

Second is the subject where a Higher Level choice outruns the student's foundation, because that gap widens every month and is cheapest to close in DP1. Third is the transferable weakness under several subjects, usually algebra or writing structure, because one block serves multiple grades. Fourth is paper technique in DP2, where losses are procedural and fast to correct. Last, and often first in a worried parent's mind, is the subject with the lowest grade, which may well be a symptom of something higher on this list rather than a problem in itself.

There is one thing the order deliberately leaves out, which is the subject the student most dislikes. Dislike is information about motivation rather than about marks, and funding it first tends to produce a student who resents the extra hour in the subject they already resented. The better sequence is to fund something higher on the list, let a grade move there, and use that as the argument for tackling the disliked subject later with a student who now believes the process works.

Counted backwards from the May session: when to spend

Budget forwards from today and a household overspends. Read the two years backwards from the May examination session, which is the session UAE IB schools sit, and the spending plan more or less writes itself. The counterintuitive part, and the part that catches Sobha Hartland families who arrived partway through the programme, is where the binding deadlines actually come from. They are set mostly by the school rather than by the IB. A family assuming the reverse budgets for a distant external examination, then meets an internal assessment deadline months ahead of anything the IB itself publishes, with the money already committed somewhere less urgent.

Two cautions. We do not publish specific IB examination or results dates on these pages. The IB holds those, and your child's Diploma coordinator holds the school's internal versions, which govern internal assessments, Extended Essay drafts and Theory of Knowledge submissions. Confirm every date with the coordinator rather than with a tutoring site, this one included. Treat an internal deadline as firm the moment it is announced, because schools do bring them forward.

Read for cost, the calendar gives a simple rule. Spend small and early on anything irreversible. Spend moderately and steadily on a diagnosed weakness through DP1. Spend heavily and briefly in the final window if the mock says you must, and stop afterwards. The pattern that fails is the inverse: nothing in DP1, panic in DP2, and a large open-ended commitment made in the month when there is least time for it to work.

There is also a collision worth asking about in advance. Internal assessment deadlines in different subjects tend to cluster, and they tend to cluster near the Extended Essay deadline, so the weeks when one subject most needs attention are the weeks the student has least to give. A coordinator can usually say where those collisions fall for a particular cohort. Knowing it in DP1 lets you move a block earlier rather than bidding for evenings that are already committed, and that is a scheduling saving rather than an academic one.

KHDA, the fee freeze, and how to judge whether you are getting value

Dubai's private schools are overseen by KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, described on u.ae as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Annual inspection runs on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak, published school by school. For a Hartland parent the departmental commentary inside a report is more useful than the headline band, and it is also a free second opinion on whether a weak grade is the student or the provision.

The cost context this year is unusual and worth using. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. Dubai's private sector served 387,441 students across 227 schools in 2024-25 across seventeen curricula, and the 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools creating 16,846 new places. With the fee line flat, discretionary education spending is more visible than usual, which makes this a good year to judge tutoring on what it produces.

How to judge it, concretely. After six weeks, you should be able to see three things: a written statement of what was costing marks, marked practice showing whether that specific thing is improving, and a grade or mark trend in the subject. If all three are absent, the spend is not working regardless of how pleasant the sessions are. That test applies at AED 60 an hour and at AED 450 an hour, and it is the only value measure a parent can apply without understanding the subject.

On credentials, plainly: IB Gram is not KHDA approved, ADEK approved or IB accredited, and does not claim to be. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai. Any service advertising KHDA-approved tutors is describing something else or saying something untrue, and in a near-me search that phrase appears often enough to be a useful filter.

What is never for sale, at any rate

A cost-led page has to say where the market's cheapest-looking option is actually the most expensive. At least one operator ranking for UAE IB queries sells completed Internal Assessments at a published price. For a family under deadline pressure that can look like a solution with a known cost. It is not. Submitting work that is not the student's own is academic misconduct under IB rules, and the price is paid by the student, who can lose the Diploma, not by the website that took the payment.

What is legitimately for sale is substantial and worth paying for. A tutor may explain the assessment criteria in the language the examiner uses, question a research question until it is answerable, warn that a method will produce too little data, teach the underlying content, and give written feedback on a draft the student has written. Those are the interventions that appear highest in this page's priority table, and they are cheap relative to their effect.

What is not for sale from us at any rate is choosing the question, supplying the method or the data, writing any part of the text, or editing a draft into its final form. Nor will we hand over a worked example close enough to the student's own task that copying becomes the obvious step. We state this to the student in the first session rather than in small print, and we also do not reproduce or distribute IB syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables. We reference them and link to the official source, which costs nothing and is both lawful and more useful, because the official version is the current one.

09

Getting started from Sobha Hartland, with a budget in mind

Begin by naming a figure. Tell us what you are willing to spend a month and for how long, alongside the subject, the level, the latest grade and the teacher's last comment. A tutoring service that does not ask about the budget will recommend more sessions than you need, because recommending more is always the safer answer for them. Knowing the constraint lets us apply the priority order from earlier on this page rather than listing everything that could help.

We then propose a tutor and run a free trial lesson, which is a diagnosis rather than a sales call. Afterwards, ask for a written statement of what is costing marks and which category it falls into. If that statement is general, do not book the block at any rate. Specificity is the thing you are paying the premium for, and it is observable in one conversation.

And the honest part. Availability is finite, and some Diploma areas are thinner than others: Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay supervision, Higher Level mathematics Paper 3, and second languages beyond the common ones. When the right tutor is not free at your preferred time, we say so and offer a different slot, a short wait, or a tutor based outside the UAE teaching the same syllabus to Gulf Standard Time. We will not substitute a related subject or level and charge the same rate, and if none of the alternatives suits you have lost nothing, because the trial lesson is free and comes first.

Where we tutor

Sobha Hartland and the communities a near-me search also returns

A near-me search from Hartland pulls in the communities around it, so it is worth knowing what each one does to a quote. These notes are about price and timing rather than about character.

Sobha Hartland

Two schools inside the community, which means some students walk home and a session can start early. That is the one local advantage that genuinely reduces cost, by making a 4pm slot workable without a premium.

Meydan

Shares schools and tutors with Hartland, and families here report the same quotes for the same work. Competing for the same evening slots is why availability rather than price often decides who teaches.

Nad Al Sheba

Established schools a short drive south and one of the few nearby communities where teaching staff actually live, which occasionally produces a quote at the lower end of the in-home band.

Business Bay

Towers, mid-year arrivals and short intensive purchases rather than year-long arrangements. Packages rather than hourly rates are advertised here, which makes comparison harder and is probably the point.

Downtown Dubai

Shortest drives in the corridor and the easiest access to group classes, which are the cheapest format available and the right answer when a gap is shared across a cohort.

Al Jaddaf

Close to several schools and the creek crossings, so a session can start soon after the day ends. Short commutes hold in-home quotes near the middle of the band.

Al Quoz

Most of the corridor's tuition centres sit here, which caps what freelancers nearby can charge. Useful leverage when comparing a one-to-one quote against an alternative.

Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Large plots and long internal drives push quotes to the top of the in-home band for no academic gain, which is the proximity premium at its least defensible.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Name the monthly figure first

Say what you are willing to spend and for how long, alongside the subject and level. The constraint is what lets us apply a priority order instead of listing everything that might help, and a service that does not ask is going to over-recommend by default.

  2. 02

    Fund the irreversible things first

Internal assessment and Extended Essay question reviews are one or two sessions each and cannot be substituted for later at any price. We will suggest those before suggesting weekly tuition, even though weekly tuition is the larger sale.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson, then ask for it in writing

The first session costs nothing. Afterwards ask for a written statement of what is costing marks and which category it falls into. If the answer is general, do not book the block, whatever the hourly rate attached to it.

  4. 04

Agree sessions, purpose and an end date

Every block has a number of sessions, a stated purpose and a review date, so the monthly figure stays a decision rather than becoming a subscription nobody revisits. If the work finishes early we say so and the block ends.

  5. 05

Check the three value signals at six weeks

A written diagnosis, marked practice showing that specific thing improving, and a mark trend in the subject. If all three are missing after six weeks the spend is not working, and that test applies at every price point in this market.

  6. 06

Raise intensity late, briefly, then stop

If the DP2 mock says an intensive block is needed, we run it for an agreed number of weeks and end it after the session rather than carrying it forward. Short and bounded is what makes the highest monthly figure on this page defensible.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The proximity premium quantified

We price what a near-me search actually costs, roughly AED 30 to 150 an hour over the online equivalent, and say what it buys. No other page in this market tells you that the filter you just used is a price filter rather than a quality filter.

A two-year total, not a monthly teaser

The budget table sets out what supporting a full Diploma costs line by line at published market rates, so you see the total before you buy the first month rather than afterwards. Most families never see this figure until it has already been spent.

A defensible priority order

With six subjects and one budget, we fund the irreversible things first, then the widening gap, then the transferable weakness. That order is driven by what cannot be fixed later rather than by which grade looks worst on a report.

Six waste patterns named

Duration before diagnosis, specialist rates on homework supervision, economising in DP2, three subjects for one weakness, blocks that renew by default, and premiums paid where presence changes nothing. Naming them is what prevents them.

A value test you can apply yourself

A written diagnosis, marked practice on that specific thing, and a mark trend, all visible at six weeks. It needs no subject knowledge and it works at any price point, including on us.

No borrowed credentials

We explain what KHDA does and link to its own material. We do not describe IB Gram or any tutor as KHDA approved, ADEK approved or IB accredited, because none of that is true and the phrase is common enough in near-me results to be a useful filter.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Sobha Hartland: your questions answered

Does searching for a tutor near me in Sobha Hartland get me a better tutor?+

It gets you a nearer one, which is a different thing. A near-me search filters for providers who have told Google they operate in your area, and in a market delivered mostly by individuals travelling between homes that is a filter on willingness to drive rather than on subject expertise. The premium attached to it runs roughly AED 30 to 150 an hour. For a Diploma student working on paper technique, the wider tutor pool that online delivery opens up usually matters more than the journey being saved.

What is the real cost of supporting a child through the whole IB Diploma?+

It depends almost entirely on one line. Internal assessment and Extended Essay question reviews are one or two sessions each and cost very little. A diagnosed foundation block in DP1 is six to ten sessions. A bounded pre-examination intensive is expensive per month and short. The line that dwarfs everything else is open-ended weekly tuition in a subject nobody diagnosed, carried across both years, which can exceed the rest of the plan combined while producing the least. Seeing the total in advance is what changes the decision.

Where do families in this part of Dubai waste the most on IB tutoring?+

Six places, in rough order of cost. Buying duration before anyone has diagnosed the problem. Paying specialist rates for homework supervision. Economising in DP2 on the paper technique and internal assessment feedback that decide the grade. Booking three subjects when one weakness underlies all three. Letting a block renew because stopping feels like a risk. And paying the proximity premium in a subject where presence changes nothing, which at Diploma level is most of them. None of these is solved by a lower hourly rate.

If I can only fund tutoring in one subject, which should it be?+

Not necessarily the one with the lowest grade. Fund the irreversible thing first: an internal assessment or Extended Essay question that cannot be fixed later at any price, which is one or two sessions. Then fund the Higher Level subject chosen above the student's foundation, because that gap widens monthly. Then fund the transferable weakness, usually algebra or writing structure, because one block moves two or three grades. The lowest grade is often a symptom of something higher in that order rather than a problem in itself.

How do I tell whether tutoring is actually working?+

Check three things at six weeks. A written statement from the tutor of what was costing marks. Marked practice showing whether that specific thing is improving. And a mark or grade trend in the subject. If all three are missing, the spend is not working however pleasant the sessions are, and that test applies equally at AED 60 an hour and AED 450 an hour. It also requires no subject knowledge from you, which is why it is the most useful measure a parent has.

Is a home visit in Sobha Hartland worth the extra money?+

For a younger child, or a teenager who genuinely will not work unless someone is physically present, it can be. For a Diploma student working on paper technique and internal assessment feedback, the premium buys travel and presence rather than teaching, and it narrows the pool to those willing to drive here at four in the afternoon. In-home rates in this market run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour against about AED 150 to 300 online for a qualified subject tutor. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE at all.

Do your tutors come to Sobha Hartland?+

No. We deliver one-to-one tuition over live video throughout the UAE, and home visits are a service we offer only in India. We say so plainly because near me is the phrase parents search and it would be easy to leave the impression open. What we offer instead is a tutor matched to your child's subject and level from the whole available market, on Gulf Standard Time, with no travel premium in the price and no wasted journey when a session has to move.

Is a group class cheaper and is it ever the right answer for IB?+

Cheaper per head, and occasionally right. A group class works when several students share one named topic gap and the pace suits all of them, which happens with a specific piece of content more often than with general Diploma work. It works poorly for internal assessment feedback, for paper technique and for anything personal, because an individual habit will not be noticed in a room of six. The test is whether you can name the gap. If you cannot, a group class is a cheap way of not solving the problem.

Can we start tutoring late in DP2 and still get value?+

Yes, with a changed plan. With eight to twelve weeks of usable time the first session should mark the mock question by question, and the plan that follows should abandon some topics deliberately rather than attempting everything. Expect a high monthly figure for a short, bounded block rather than a modest figure spread thin. What you should not buy at that stage is an open-ended arrangement, because the window closes before an open-ended plan has time to work, and nobody can promise a grade in it.

Which IB subjects carry a scarcity premium in the UAE?+

Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay supervision are thin everywhere, because almost nobody teaches them as a standalone subject, so they are worth booking earlier than you think necessary. Higher Level mathematics including Paper 3 is thinner than Standard Level. Second languages beyond the commonly taught ones are genuinely scarce. Mathematics at Standard Level, the main sciences, English A and Economics are comparatively well covered. We tell you which category your subject falls into before you book rather than after.

Does a tutor's price tell me anything about their quality?+

Less than you would hope. The market does not observe teaching quality directly, so price largely tracks delivery model and claimed credentials rather than outcomes. What does correlate with quality is observable in a single lesson: whether they asked for your child's marked work, whether they can state the paper weightings from memory, whether they talk about method marks, and whether their account of the problem is specific. Run those checks and the price becomes a secondary question rather than the primary one.

Are school fees rising in Dubai this year, and how should that affect our tutoring budget?+

KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. With the largest line in the education budget flat, discretionary spending such as tutoring is more visible than usual. Practically, that makes this a good year to judge tutoring on what it produces rather than absorbing it into a general increase, and to check the three value signals at six weeks.

Do private tutors in Dubai need a licence, and does that affect what they charge?+

They need a permit and it costs them nothing, so it should not appear in a quote. MoHRE issues a private tuition work permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years, with eligible applicants including registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Applications go through MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service. Those tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, although no fine schedule is published.

Can we pause or move sessions to save money during holidays and Ramadan?+

Yes, and online delivery is what makes pausing cheap rather than disruptive. During Ramadan sessions commonly move to a post-Iftar slot, with no journey to renegotiate at either end, and a holiday pause costs nothing but a held slot. The exception worth noting is the eight weeks before the examination session, where pausing costs more than it saves. Agree any pause in advance so the slot is kept, and if you are leaving the Gulf, agree which time zone the session is pinned to.

Why would a cheaper tutor ever be the right choice?+

Because some problems do not need a specialist. A student who has missed two weeks to illness and needs one topic re-taught is well served by a competent budget tutor, and paying AED 400 an hour for that is a waste. The rungs that justify specialist rates are paper technique, internal assessment feedback and mark-scheme judgement in an examination year. Matching the rung to the problem rather than to the budget, or to anxiety, is the single most effective cost control available to a Diploma family.

What should I send you to get a recommendation that fits our budget?+

Five things. The monthly figure you are comfortable with and for how long. The subject and whether it is Higher or Standard Level. The latest grade, labelled as mock or classwork. The teacher's last written comment, quoted rather than paraphrased. And the time the school day ends, which from Sobha Hartland is often earlier than elsewhere because two schools sit inside the community. A photograph of one marked paper beats all five, and with it we can usually propose a tutor the same day.

Tell us the budget, and we will tell you where it does the most work

A near-me search sorts the market by distance. A Diploma grade is decided by whether the person teaching knows the subject at the level your child sits it, and by whether the money went to the things that cannot be fixed later. Send the monthly figure you are comfortable with alongside the subject, the level, the latest grade and the teacher's own words. We will apply the priority order on this page, propose a tutor, and run the first session at no cost. Then check the three value signals at six weeks, on us as on anyone.
