IB Maths Tutor in Sobha Hartland

An IB maths tutor in Sobha Hartland is worth paying for in some parts of the course and close to worthless in others, and almost nobody tells parents which is which. The Diploma maths grade is built from named components with published weightings, so the spending question has an arithmetic answer. This page costs the course component by component, then gives the checks that show whether the money is working. Lessons are one-to-one and online, on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Sobha Hartland

Cost the course by component, because that is how the grade is built

Diploma maths is not a single thing a tutor can be good at. It is a set of named components with published weightings, and a student losing marks in one of them is not helped by hours spent on another. At Standard Level, Paper 1 and Paper 2 carry 40% each and the internal exploration carries 20%. At Higher Level, Papers 1 and 2 carry 30% each, the shorter Paper 3 carries 20% and the exploration carries 20%. Those numbers are the spending plan, if anyone bothers to use them.

Almost nobody does. The standard approach in this market is to sell hours and let the content sort itself out, which works when a student's weakness happens to coincide with what the tutor likes teaching and wastes money when it does not. A Sobha Hartland family paying a specialist rate for general revision while their child's actual losses sit in Paper 1's non-calculator algebra is buying attention rather than improvement.

The market rates themselves are worth stating plainly, since most competitor pages will not. Qualified subject tutors working online sit at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour and specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above, with budget online tutors advertised from about AED 33 to 65 and in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 500 because the figure includes travel. Monthly packages seen in the market run around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. Those are other providers' published figures, read in October 2026, and they are market context rather than IB Gram's price list.

What this page adds is the second half of the calculation. Given those rates, which component should the money go to, how many hours does each realistically need, and how would you know within six weeks whether it worked? Those questions have answers, and the answers differ for a Standard Level student with a weak exploration and a Higher Level student who cannot touch Paper 3. Treating them as the same problem is how a family spends a year's fees on tutoring and watches a 5 stay a 5.

IB Gram delivers Diploma maths tuition to Sobha Hartland as one-to-one lessons over live video on Gulf Standard Time, matched to the course and level rather than to the postcode. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India, and that is also why no travel premium sits inside our pricing. The sections below cost the course component by component, name the three purchases that never pay back, and give you the verification test to apply at six weeks. Nothing here promises a grade; it gives you an order to spend in and a way to check the spending, which is more useful than a promise.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The component argument applies differently at each stage, because the assessment structure changes. These are the three contexts that matter for a Sobha Hartland maths decision, and each has a distinct answer to the question of what is worth funding.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Two years, one of two maths courses, and a published component structure that makes spending decisions tractable. Standard Level sits two papers at 40% each plus a 20% exploration. Higher Level sits three papers, at 30%, 30% and 20%, plus the same 20% exploration. Paper 1 is taken without a calculator in Analysis and Approaches, which is the structural fact that most often decides where a student's marks are going missing.

Near Sobha Hartland, Diploma maths is taught at several schools within a short drive, and the course combinations offered differ. Some timetable both Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation at both levels; others offer less. That constrains choice before a tutor is involved, so the first question in a Hartland consultation is what the school actually runs.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Criterion-assessed with no examination papers, which is exactly why the component argument matters at the transition. A student can earn a 7 in MYP Mathematics on strong investigations and then meet a non-calculator paper they have never sat. The cheapest maths tutoring a Diploma family buys is a short block before DP1 that secures algebraic speed, because speed is examinable and MYP does not test it.

Several central-corridor schools run MYP and then offer both the Diploma and A Levels. For a Hartland family the useful spend at this point is one session testing readiness for Higher Level rather than a term of general support, because the Higher Level misplacement is the single most expensive error available in Diploma maths.

DP CoursesAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme course candidate

Individual Diploma subjects taken for certificates rather than the full Diploma. In maths this arises when a student needs Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level for an engineering or economics application but cannot carry Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay alongside. The components, the weightings and the exploration are identical, so the costing on this page applies unchanged.

Business Bay and Hartland see a steady flow of mid-year arrivals, which is where the certificate route most often comes up. What a certificate carries for Ministry of Education equivalency is a question for the ministry's attestation channel rather than for a tutoring service, and we point parents there rather than guessing.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Maths is the subject here, and the component logic generalises. These are the courses our tutors cover for Hartland families, each noted for the component where marks are actually lost, because that is what determines whether a session is worth a specialist rate.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Paper 1 without a calculator is where algebraic fluency is exposed and where most of the recoverable marks sit. At Higher Level, Paper 3 is a separate skill in extended problem solving and needs its own sessions rather than more Paper 2 practice.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics and modelling led, with calculator competence examinable. Losses concentrate in interpreting output the student can generate, and in Paper 3's extended investigation at Higher Level, which rewards a structured write-up.

Physics

HL and SL

The subject where a maths weakness shows up second. Equation rearrangement and uncertainty treatment cost Physics marks that have nothing to do with physics, which means one maths block can be charged against two grades.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Logarithms in pH work and rearrangement in equilibrium problems are maths problems in chemical dress. Worth checking before booking two separate tutors, because one underlying fix often serves both subjects.

Economics

HL and SL

Higher Level carries real quantitative work and the internal assessment is a set of commentaries on published articles. Students taking Applications and Interpretation alongside it gain from shared statistics work rather than duplicated sessions.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Discrete mathematics and algorithmic reasoning overlap with Analysis and Approaches content, so a student strong in one usually finds the other less alien than expected. Thinner coverage in the market, so book earlier.

Business Management

HL and SL

A frequent pairing with Applications and Interpretation. The quantitative tools are modest and the evaluation marks are not, so a student applying a framework without weighing it sits mid-band regardless of arithmetic.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Included because the exploration is a written document worth 20% of the maths grade. A student who cannot justify a method in prose loses exploration marks that have nothing to do with their mathematics.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

The exhibition and essay land in the same term as the maths exploration for most students, which is a scheduling cost rather than a teaching one. Our support is structural: reading the title, building an argument, finding the marks.

Extended Essay

Core

Occasionally written in mathematics, which is harder than students expect because the research question must carry genuine mathematical content. One early session narrowing the question is the best value available here.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all one-to-one and online, described by which component they are built to address. Choosing by component rather than by frequency is the practical application of everything on this page.

Paper-technique weekly

One session a week aimed at a named paper. For Analysis and Approaches that usually means Paper 1, with regular no-calculator work, because it is where recoverable marks concentrate and where students never practise voluntarily. The session is built around timed questions rather than content exposition, and the next week begins with the previous week's practice marked.

  • Aimed at one named paper, agreed at the start
  • No-calculator drill every session where the course demands it
  • Timed questions rather than worked examples on a screen
  • Half-term review against whether that paper's marks have moved

Exploration block

Three to five sessions around the internal exploration, which carries 20% of the grade and is the single most mispriced component in this market. The tutor explains the criteria, pushes the topic until it carries enough mathematics to reach the higher bands, and gives written feedback on the student's own draft. The student chooses the topic, does the mathematics and writes the report.

  • Topic narrowed until the mathematics is at the right level for the course
  • Criteria explained in the language the examiner uses
  • Written feedback on the student's own draft; no rewriting
  • Timed to the school's internal deadline rather than ours

Paper 3 block, Higher Level only

A short block on Paper 3, which is 20% of a Higher Level grade and a distinct skill: a long, structured investigation requiring the student to follow a line of reasoning across many parts. Most students have never been taught how to approach it and lose marks through stopping rather than through error. Six to eight sessions is usually enough to change that.

  • Six to eight sessions, bounded from the start
  • Whole Paper 3 questions attempted under timed conditions
  • Strategy for partial credit when a part cannot be completed
  • Only relevant at Higher Level; we will say so if it is not needed

01

What Diploma maths tuition costs here, and how to check you are getting it

Start with the market, because most competitor pages refuse to. The table below gives the Dubai bands with the provider that published each figure and the month we read it, alongside the thing that matters more: the specific behaviour you should be able to observe at that price. These are market rates rather than IB Gram's prices, which follow a free trial lesson and a count of the sessions genuinely needed.

The behaviour column is the point. Price in this market tracks delivery model and claimed credentials, not teaching quality, because quality is not observable at the point of purchase. What is observable is what happens in a lesson. A tutor who explains the question the student is stuck on and moves to the next one is delivering the budget tier faithfully, whatever they charge. A tutor who arrives having read the marked mock, names the component where marks are going, and sets practice aimed at that component is delivering the specialist tier.

So the test is not whether a rate is reasonable but whether the behaviour matches the rate. A family paying AED 350 an hour for homework supervision is being overcharged regardless of the tutor's qualifications, and a family paying AED 60 an hour for competent content re-teaching after a fortnight of illness is getting a bargain. Read the table across rather than down, and use the right-hand column as a specification for what you are buying. If a tutor cannot deliver the behaviour in that row, the rate attached to the row is the wrong rate for them whatever their qualifications say.

Funding by component: where the hours actually pay back

Here is the calculation nobody in this market performs. Each maths component has a published weighting, a characteristic failure mode and a rough number of hours needed to shift it. Put those three together and you have a funding order that is defensible rather than intuitive, and it frequently contradicts what a worried parent would choose.

The highest return is the exploration, because 20% of the grade sits in a document the student controls entirely, and the difference between a mediocre and a strong exploration is often a topic choice made in one conversation. Three to five sessions, once, no repetition needed. The second highest is Paper 1 in Analysis and Approaches, because no-calculator algebra is a mechanical skill that improves with drill and students never drill it voluntarily. The third is Paper 3 at Higher Level, 20% of the grade and a skill almost nobody has been taught.

The lowest return, and the thing most often bought, is general topic revision across the whole syllabus. It consumes the most hours, addresses no specific failure, and produces the feeling of progress without the evidence of it. If a tutor proposes going through the course from the start, ask which component that is aimed at. There is usually no answer, because the proposal is a plan for filling sessions rather than for recovering marks.

One qualification on the funding order. It assumes the student is in roughly the right course at roughly the right level, and when that assumption fails nothing else on the list applies. A student holding a 3 in Higher Level Analysis and Approaches is not short of Paper 3 strategy; they are in the wrong place, and the useful intervention is a conversation with the department rather than a block of sessions. A tutor who notices that and says so has saved you more than any amount of component-level work would have earned them.

03

The three purchases that never pay back in Diploma maths

  • Open-ended course-wide revision with no named component
  • A second weekly session in the same subject, which becomes supervised homework
  • Paper 3 work for a Standard Level student, who does not sit it
  • No Paper 3 work for a Higher Level student, which forfeits a fifth of the grade
  • Exploration help bought after the draft deadline, when only process advice remains
  • Premium rates for content re-teaching after a short absence

Having named where the money works, here is where it does not. These three are so consistent that we will talk a Hartland family out of them, and losing the sale is the correct outcome in each case because the alternative is a parent concluding, reasonably, that tutoring does not work.

The first is open-ended revision of the whole course with no component named. It is the most commonly sold product in this market and the least accountable, because nothing in it can be shown to have worked or failed. It also consumes the budget that should have gone to the exploration and to Paper 1. If a proposal cannot name the component it targets, it is not a plan.

The second is a second weekly session in the same subject. A student already carrying six subjects, three core components and school homework does not have two hours a week of maths attention to give, and the second session typically becomes supervised homework at a specialist rate. One good session with practice between is better and cheaper. The third is Paper 3 work for a Standard Level student, which does not exist on their course, and its mirror image: a Higher Level student receiving no Paper 3 work at all because the tutor's experience is Standard Level. Both are matching failures and both are avoidable by naming the level in the first email.

What these three share is that none of them can be shown to have failed. An unbounded revision programme always has more syllabus to cover, a second weekly session always has homework to supervise, and a level mismatch is invisible until results. That is why they persist in a market where everyone means well. The protection is the same in each case: name the component before you buy, set a date to check it, and be willing to end the arrangement when the check comes back empty.

04

What Hartland specifically changes about the arithmetic

Most of this page would be true anywhere in Dubai. Three things are different about Sobha Hartland, and all three affect cost rather than content, which is why they belong on a cost-led page rather than in a description of the community.

The first is timing. Two schools sit inside the community, so a proportion of students are home before three o'clock without a car journey. That makes a genuine 4pm session possible, and an alert student at four is worth more per dirham than a tired one at six. It is the only local factor on this page that reduces cost directly, and families who have it should use it rather than defaulting to an evening slot.

The second is competition for slots. Hartland has a high concentration of Diploma families relative to its size, and the better local tutors are generally committed by October. A family asking in February is choosing from what is left, which is a quality cost rather than a price one. The third is the group alternative: Al Quoz and Downtown are both close, so a shared topic gap can be addressed in a group class far more cheaply than one-to-one. That only works when you can name the topic, which brings the argument back to diagnosis.

There is a fourth Hartland feature worth naming, which cuts the other way. Because the community is dense and the schools are close, recommendations circulate fast and families end up using the same tutors on the strength of a neighbour's experience. A recommendation is useful information about reliability and manner. It is not information about course fit, because the neighbour's child may be sitting Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level while yours sits Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, and those are different jobs with different components to attack.

05

Counted backwards from the May session: the maths-specific milestones

UAE IB schools sit the May examination session, and the maths calendar has its own shape because the exploration deadline is internal and movable while the papers are not. Planning backwards is more useful than planning forwards, and it tells you when each of the components in the funding table should be bought.

Two cautions. We do not publish specific IB examination or results dates on these pages. The IB holds those, and your child's Diploma coordinator holds the school's internal deadlines, including the exploration draft and submission dates, which are the ones that constrain spending. Confirm every date with the coordinator rather than with a tutoring website, including this one, and treat an internal deadline as firm from the moment it is announced.

Read for spending, the calendar produces a clear sequence. Secure algebraic fluency in DP1, when it is cheap. Buy the exploration block before the topic is chosen, not after the draft is written. Buy Paper 3 support in the first half of DP2, early enough for the skill to settle. Buy whole-paper practice in the final six to ten weeks. Anything bought outside that sequence is buying comfort rather than marks, and the most expensive version is an open-ended arrangement started in the final term when there is no time for it to work.

One scheduling point parents rarely anticipate. The exploration deadline tends to fall near the Extended Essay deadline and near at least one other subject's internal assessment, so the weeks when maths most needs attention are the weeks the student has least to give. A coordinator can usually say where those collisions fall for a given cohort, and knowing it in DP1 lets you move the exploration block earlier rather than bidding for evenings that are already committed. That is a scheduling saving rather than an academic one, and it is free.

KHDA, the Hartland schools and judging whether the money is working

Dubai's private schools are overseen by KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, described on u.ae as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Annual inspection runs on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak, published school by school, and the secondary mathematics commentary inside a report is a free second opinion on whether a weak grade reflects the student or the provision.

The cost context is unusual this year and worth using. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. Dubai's private sector served 387,441 students across 227 schools in 2024-25 across seventeen curricula, and the 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places.

With the fee line flat, tutoring is more visible in a household budget than usual, so here is the test to apply. At six weeks you should be able to see three things: a written statement naming the component that was losing marks, marked practice in that component showing movement, and a mark trend in the relevant paper. If all three are absent, the spend is not working whatever the sessions feel like. The test needs no mathematics from you, which is precisely why it is the one worth using.

On credentials, plainly: IB Gram is not KHDA approved, ADEK approved or IB accredited, and does not claim to be. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai. Any service describing its tutors with that phrase is referring to something else or saying something untrue, which for a parent comparing quotes is a quick filter.

07

The exploration: 20% of the grade a tutor may never write a word of

The exploration is the highest-return component in the funding table and the one where tutoring most often crosses a line. At least one operator ranking for UAE IB queries sells completed Internal Assessments at a published price. Presented as a purchase it looks like a solution with a known cost. It is academic misconduct under IB rules, the consequence falls on the student, who can lose the Diploma, and the website that took the money bears none of it.

What a tutor legitimately does is substantial, which is why the component ranks where it does. They may explain the criteria in the language the examiner uses. They may push a topic until it carries mathematics at the right level for the course rather than reading as a school project. They may point out that a planned approach will not generate enough mathematics to assess. They may teach the mathematics the exploration depends on. They may read a draft the student has written and say where the reasoning is thin, where the notation is wrong and where a conclusion outruns the working.

What a tutor may not do is choose the topic, supply the mathematics, generate the data, or write or edit the report into its final form, nor hand over a worked example close enough to the student's own topic that copying becomes the obvious next step. We state this to the student in the first session, not in small print, because a sixteen-year-old under deadline pressure deserves to know where the line is before they are standing on it. We also do not reproduce or distribute IB syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables; we reference them and link to the official source, which is lawful and more useful, since the official version is the current one.

08

Getting started from Sobha Hartland, with a component in mind

Send four things. Which course, Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, and whether it is Higher or Standard Level. The latest grade, labelled as mock or classwork. The teacher's last written comment, quoted rather than summarised. And a photograph of one marked paper, which is worth more than the other three combined because it shows which component the marks are leaking from.

We propose a tutor and run a free trial lesson, which is a diagnosis. Afterwards ask for the component in writing: not that your child needs to practise more, but that the losses sit in Paper 1's non-calculator work, or in method marks on Paper 2, or in an exploration topic that will not reach the higher criteria. If the answer does not name a component, do not book the block at any rate, because without it there is nothing to check at six weeks.

And the honest part. Diploma maths capacity is finite, and Higher Level Analysis and Approaches with Paper 3 experience is thinner than Standard Level in this market. When the right tutor is not free at the time you want, we say so and offer a different slot, a short wait, or a tutor based outside the UAE teaching the same course to Gulf Standard Time. We will not put a Standard Level tutor in front of a Higher Level Paper 3 student and charge the specialist rate for it. If none of the alternatives suits, nothing has been lost, because the trial lesson is free and comes first.

Where we tutor

Sobha Hartland and the communities sharing its maths departments

Hartland sits in a dense central band whose schools overlap heavily. These notes focus on what each community does to the practical economics of a maths session: timing, alternatives and quote levels.

Sobha Hartland

Two schools inside the community, so some students walk home and a 4pm session is genuinely available. That matters for cost, because an early slot is the cheapest way to get an alert student rather than a tired one.

Meydan

Shares schools and tutors with Hartland and competes for the same evening slots. Families often find the maths tutor they were recommended is already teaching a neighbour's child.

Nad Al Sheba

Established IB provision a short drive south, and one of the few nearby communities where teaching staff actually live, which occasionally produces a lower in-home quote.

Business Bay

Towers and frequent mid-year arrivals, so short diagnostic blocks are more common here than year-long arrangements. That suits the component approach, which is built for targeted work.

Downtown Dubai

Shortest drives in the corridor and the easiest access to group maths classes, which are the cheapest format and reasonable for a single shared topic.

Al Jaddaf

Near several schools and the creek crossings, so sessions can start soon after the school day ends. Short commutes keep in-home quotes mid-band.

Al Quoz

Most of the corridor's tuition centres, which caps what nearby freelancers can charge for group-suitable work. Useful context when comparing a one-to-one maths quote.

Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Large plots and long internal drives, which puts in-home quotes at the top of the band while changing nothing about the mathematics taught.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the course, the level and the component if you can

Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation are different courses, Higher and Standard are different jobs, and Paper 3 exists only at Higher Level. A photograph of a marked paper tells us the component faster than any description of the problem does.

  2. 02

Fund the exploration before the topic is chosen

Twenty per cent of the grade sits in a document the student controls, and the difference between a weak and a strong exploration is often a topic decision made in one conversation. We will suggest this before suggesting weekly tuition, even though weekly tuition is the larger sale.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson, then ask for the component in writing

The first session costs nothing. Ask which component the losses sit in and expect a specific answer naming a paper and a failure mode. Without that there is nothing to measure at six weeks, so a vague answer is a reason not to book at any price.

  4. 04

One session a week, with practice between

Each session ends with named timed questions in the target component and the next begins with them marked against the published criteria. A second weekly session in the same subject usually becomes supervised homework at a specialist rate, so we will advise against it.

  5. 05

Check the three signals at six weeks

A written statement of the component, marked practice in that component showing movement, and a mark trend in the relevant paper. If all three are missing the spend is not working, and the test requires no mathematics from you.

  6. 06

Buy Paper 3 early at Higher Level, then stop

Six to eight bounded sessions in the first half of DP2 is usually enough, because the skill is strategic rather than content-heavy. Once it is working the block ends rather than continuing because stopping feels risky.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Costed by component, not by the hour

The Diploma maths grade is built from named components with published weightings, so we fund them in order of return rather than selling undifferentiated hours. No competitor page in this market performs that calculation.

Twenty per cent of the grade, controlled entirely by the student, and decided largely by a topic choice. Three to five sessions, once, before the topic is fixed. It is the highest return available and the most commonly bought too late.

Paper 3 treated as its own skill

A fifth of a Higher Level grade sits in an extended investigation most students have never been taught to approach. We block it separately and we will tell a Standard Level family they do not need it.

Three purchases we talk families out of

Open-ended course-wide revision, a second weekly session in the same subject, and level-mismatched Paper 3 work. Losing those sales is better than a parent concluding that tutoring does not work.

AED figures with named sources

Every rate here carries the provider that published it and the month we read it, next to the behaviour you should be able to observe at that price. Price tracks delivery model in this market, not quality, so the behaviour column is the useful one.

No borrowed credentials

We explain what KHDA does and link to its own material. We do not describe IB Gram or any tutor as KHDA approved, ADEK approved or IB accredited, because none of it is true of us and the phrase is the commonest untruth in this market.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Sobha Hartland: your questions answered

Which part of IB maths is actually worth paying a tutor for?+

In order of return: the exploration, because 20% of the grade sits in a document the student controls and the outcome is largely decided by a topic choice made in one conversation. Then Paper 1 in Analysis and Approaches, because no-calculator algebra is a mechanical skill that improves with drill nobody does voluntarily. Then Paper 3 at Higher Level, a fifth of the grade and a skill almost nobody is taught. Course-wide revision with no named component comes last, and it is the most commonly sold product in this market.

How are the IB maths components weighted at each level?+

At Standard Level, Paper 1 and Paper 2 carry 40% each and the internal exploration carries 20%. At Higher Level, Papers 1 and 2 carry 30% each, the shorter Paper 3 carries 20% and the exploration carries 20%. The consequence for spending is direct: a Higher Level student has an entire additional paper with its own style of extended problem, and hours spent on Paper 2 practice do not prepare for it. Confirm the current structure with your child's teacher, since course documents are revised periodically.

What should a tutor charging AED 300 an hour do that one charging AED 60 does not?+

Observable things, not attitudinal ones. A specialist arrives having read the student's marked work, names the component where marks are going, sets practice aimed at that component, and talks about method marks rather than answers. A budget tutor correctly explains the questions the student brings and moves on, which is genuinely useful for a missed topic. If a tutor at the higher rate is doing the lower-rate job, you are being overcharged regardless of their qualifications, and that is testable in one lesson.

Is two maths sessions a week better than one?+

Usually worse, and more expensive. A Diploma student carries six subjects, three core components and school homework, so there is rarely two hours a week of genuine maths attention available. The second session typically becomes supervised homework at a specialist rate. One well-used session with named practice between, marked before the next session, achieves more. The exception is a bounded pre-examination block of six to ten weeks, where the intensity is justified because the window is short and the targets are specific.

My child is in Higher Level and has never attempted Paper 3. Does that matter?+

It is a fifth of their grade, so yes. Paper 3 is a long structured investigation requiring the student to carry a line of reasoning across many parts, and most lose marks by stopping rather than by making errors. Six to eight bounded sessions is usually enough to change that, because the skill is strategic rather than content-heavy: knowing how to make progress on a later part when an earlier one has not resolved, and how to write enough to earn partial credit. It is worth buying in the first half of DP2.

How much does Diploma maths tutoring cost in Dubai?+

Market figures read in October 2026: budget online tutors advertise from about AED 33 to 65 an hour, qualified subject tutors online sit at roughly AED 150 to 300, specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above, and in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 500 because the figure includes travel. Monthly packages seen are around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. Those are other providers' published figures, attributed in the table here, not IB Gram's prices.

Can a tutor help with the maths exploration and stay within the rules?+

Yes, and the boundary is specific. A tutor may explain the criteria, push a topic until it carries mathematics at the right level for the course, warn that an approach will not generate enough mathematics to assess, teach the mathematics involved, and give written feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not choose the topic, supply the mathematics, generate data, or write or edit the report into its final form. Submitting work that is not the student's own is misconduct under IB rules and the student bears the consequence.

When is it too late to buy exploration support?+

Once the draft has been submitted for feedback, most of the value has gone. The decisive intervention is the topic conversation, which happens before any mathematics is done: a topic too thin to reach the higher criteria cannot be rescued by polishing the write-up. After the draft, what remains is honest process advice on structure and notation, which is worth something and is not worth a specialist block. Ask your coordinator when the internal deadlines fall and buy the session before the first of them, not after.

How do I know within six weeks whether the money is working?+

Look for three things. A written statement from the tutor naming the component that was losing marks. Marked practice in that component showing movement over several weeks. And a mark or grade trend in the relevant paper. If all three are present the spend is working even if the grade has not moved yet. If all three are absent, it is not working however pleasant the sessions are. The test requires no mathematics from you, which is why it is the one worth applying.

Does Sobha Hartland itself change anything about the cost?+

Three things, all practical. Two schools sit inside the community, so some students are home before three without a car journey, which makes a genuine 4pm session available and an alert student is worth more per dirham than a tired one. Local demand is high relative to the community's size, so the better local tutors are generally committed by October. And Al Quoz and Downtown are close, so a group class on a named shared topic is a cheap and real alternative when you can identify the topic.

Is Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation cheaper to support?+

Neither inherently, but the spending shape differs. Analysis and Approaches needs regular no-calculator drill for Paper 1, which is weekly work across a term, so the cost is spread. Applications and Interpretation needs calculator efficiency and interpretation practice, which tends to respond to shorter targeted blocks. The genuinely expensive scenario in either course is a student placed above their foundation, who may need weekly support for two years to hold a 4. Checking that fit early is the cheapest intervention available.

Should a tutor's permit show up anywhere in what we are quoted?+

They need one and it should not affect the price, because it costs them nothing. MoHRE issues a private tuition work permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years, with eligible applicants including registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Applications go through MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service. Those tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published.

Are school fees rising in Dubai, and how does that affect a tutoring decision?+

KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. With the largest education line flat, a tutoring figure is more visible in the household budget than usual. Practically, that makes this a good year to insist on the component-level diagnosis and the six-week check rather than absorbing an undifferentiated monthly payment into a general increase.

Can sessions move during Ramadan, mock weeks or travel?+

Yes, and online delivery is what makes it straightforward rather than a favour. During Ramadan sessions commonly shift to a post-Iftar slot, with no journey to renegotiate at either end. In mock weeks a session can pause or redirect to whatever the mocks have just exposed, which is often the most useful single session of the year. When a family travels the lesson follows the student. Agree the time zone the session is pinned to if you are leaving the Gulf, and give notice so the slot is held.

What happens if the Higher Level maths tutor we want is booked?+

We tell you rather than substituting quietly. Higher Level Analysis and Approaches with genuine Paper 3 experience is thinner in this market than Standard Level, and the early-evening Gulf Standard Time slots Hartland families want fill first. The options are a different slot, a short wait, or a tutor based outside the UAE teaching the same course to Gulf Standard Time. We will not put a Standard Level tutor in front of a Higher Level Paper 3 student at the specialist rate, and the trial lesson is free so asking costs nothing.

What single thing should I send to get the most useful recommendation?+

A photograph of one marked paper, with the course and level written alongside it. It tells us more than any description of the problem, because it shows which component the marks are leaking from: blank later parts suggest Paper 3 strategy or pacing, correct answers with no working suggest method marks, slow early arithmetic suggests non-calculator fluency. Add the teacher's last comment quoted rather than paraphrased, and the time the school day ends, and we can usually propose a tutor the same day.

Name the component, then spend the money

Diploma maths has published weightings, so the spending question has an arithmetic answer rather than an intuitive one. Fund the exploration before the topic is chosen, fund Paper 1 drill through DP1, fund Paper 3 early at Higher Level, and fund whole papers in the last six to ten weeks. Send the course, the level, the latest grade and a photograph of one marked paper, and we will propose a tutor and run the first session free. Then ask which component the losses sit in, and check the three signals at six weeks.
