Best IB Home Tutor in the UAE

Families searching for the best IB home tutor in the UAE are usually solving a system problem rather than a teaching one. The school's licence, the emirate's regulator, the exam board's timetable zone and the Ministry's compulsory subjects have already fixed most of the variables before anybody is hired. This page sets out what is genuinely yours to choose, what the UAE market charges for each arrangement, and how IB Gram delivers one-to-one IB tuition live over video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, with a free trial lesson before any payment.

  • Lessons run one-to-one over live video, never at a UAE address
  • Five regulators named by emirate, with the source for each
  • Every AED figure here is attributed to the provider who published it
  • Coursework is taught and reviewed, never written for the student

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

What a UAE family is actually choosing when it chooses a tutor

A search for the best IB home tutor in the UAE usually starts with a bad mock paper and a short list of names. The names are the easy part. What decides whether tuition works here is a set of decisions nobody in the family made: which curriculum the school is licensed to teach, which authority inspects it, which board enters the child for examinations, and which compulsory subjects sit on the timetable alongside the Diploma. Hire well and ignore those, and you have bought competent teaching aimed at the wrong target.

The UAE is unusual in how much of this sits above the school. Dubai's private schools answer to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain answer to the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools there. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority. Ras Al Khaimah has its Department of Knowledge. Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah sit with the federal Ministry of Education. Five bodies, seven emirates, and a family that moves house can change regulator without changing country.

That matters in a concrete way. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so what a child sits has been signed off locally as well as by the board. In Dubai, Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are compulsory in every private school whatever curriculum it holds a licence for, and the Ministry controls the content used in them. An IB home tutor in Dubai who treats those lessons as spare revision time is working against the school's own licence rather than with it.

The second choice is format, and the honest answer there is narrow. Rates published by UAE providers put a tutor visiting a home at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the number, against roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour for a qualified subject teacher working online. IB Gram delivers lessons one-to-one over live video only. Home visits are a service offered in India, not here. No IB Gram tutor attends a UAE address, and nothing on this page pretends otherwise.

What the online format buys is choice. A Higher Level Chemistry teacher who has taught the current scientific investigation criteria is scarce in any single emirate and scarcer still within a twenty-minute drive of one particular villa. Online IB tutoring in the UAE removes the radius and leaves the variables that actually move a grade: the right specialist, the right level, the right number of hours, and a schedule that survives the school run, prayer times and a shortened Ramadan day. The rest of this page is about what the system has already decided for you, and what it has left open.

  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies are compulsory whatever curriculum the school teaches
  • Entry deadlines sit months before the papers, and the school owns them, not the family
  • Published UAE in-home rates run roughly AED 180-500 an hour; qualified online AED 150-300
  • A tutor may teach, question and review coursework; the student writes every word of it

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The IB runs four programmes, and UAE schools licence them in different combinations. Knowing which one a child is in decides what tuition can usefully do, because the assessment model changes completely between them. Each note below says what the UAE school system adds on top of the IB's own requirements.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The PYP has no external examinations. Learning is organised through transdisciplinary units of inquiry, and reporting is based on teacher judgement against the programme's learning outcomes rather than on marks. Support at this stage is about literacy, number fluency and the habits that make a Middle Years transition survivable: reading stamina, written structure, and comfort with being asked to explain a method rather than produce an answer.

In Dubai, a PYP child already carries Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies on the timetable, streamed separately for Arab and non-Arab pupils. Families often discover the Arabic stream only when the first report arrives. Getting the stream right early is cheaper than correcting it in Year 7.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

The MYP is assessed against criteria lettered A to D in each subject, scored out of 8 per criterion, with grade boundaries applied to the total. Those letters are the grammar of the whole programme, and most lost marks come from writing an answer that never addresses the criterion being tested. Optional eAssessment in Year 11 gives an externally moderated result for schools that choose it.

Several UAE schools run MYP to Year 9 then switch to IGCSE, which means a child can meet two assessment systems in three years. A Middle Years student heading for the Diploma in a UAE school needs the criterion habit intact; a child heading for IGCSE needs the opposite reflex, because mark schemes reward different things.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus the core: Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Each subject is scored out of 7, with up to three further points from the combination of Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, to a maximum of 45. Twenty-four points is the pass threshold, subject to the IB's conditions on failing grades and core components.

A UAE Diploma student carries the compulsory Ministry subjects on top of six IB courses, so the week is tighter than the IB's own guided-hours figures suggest. Registration for the session is made by the school, not the family, and the Diploma then needs a Ministry of Education equivalency file before it can be used for a UAE university application.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The Career-related Programme pairs at least two Diploma courses with a career-related study, plus a core of personal and professional skills, service learning, language development and a reflective project. It suits a student who wants Diploma-level subject rigour in two or three areas without the full six-subject load, and it is assessed through a mix of IB examinations and the career-related provider's own assessment.

The CP is licensed by only a small number of UAE schools, so a family that wants it is usually choosing a school as much as a programme. Tuition for a CP student is normally concentrated on the Diploma courses inside it, because those carry the externally examined marks that universities read.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma courses UAE families most often ask about, with what each one actually assesses. The description matters more than the subject name: a tutor who knows Mathematics in general is not the same as one who knows where the Applications and Interpretation papers differ from Analysis and Approaches.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Algebraic fluency, calculus and proof, with a no-calculator paper at both levels. Higher Level adds depth across the same five topic areas and a third paper of extended problem-solving. Marks are lost in the move between a correct method and a justified conclusion, and in the exploration where modelling is left unexamined.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and technology-assisted work, with a graphic display calculator permitted throughout. Higher Level adds matrices, graph theory and more demanding statistical inference. Students who chose this route to avoid proof are often surprised by how much interpretation of output the papers ask for in words rather than symbols.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics, fields, waves and nuclear physics, with Higher Level extending the same chapters rather than adding separate ones. The scientific investigation and the data-based questions reward uncertainty handling, which is the single most commonly undertaught part of the course in a crowded UAE timetable.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Structure and reactivity across organic, physical and inorganic topics, with multi-step calculation under time pressure. Higher Level work on organic mechanisms and energetics separates grades. The internal investigation asks for a research design that can actually be run, and weak designs cap the mark long before the data is analysed.

Biology

HL and SL

Unity and diversity, interaction and interdependence, across molecular to ecosystem scales. The volume of content tempts memorisation, but the papers reward applying a named mechanism to an unfamiliar context. Command terms do most of the damage here: outline, explain and justify ask for three different answers of three different lengths.

Economics

HL and SL

Microeconomics, macroeconomics and the global economy, assessed through extended response and a portfolio of three commentaries on published articles. Higher Level adds quantitative demands and a policy paper. Diagram accuracy is worth more than most students expect, and an unlabelled axis costs marks no amount of prose recovers.

Business Management

HL and SL

Organisational structure, marketing, operations and finance, with case-study examinations and a written commentary. Tools are examined as analysis, not recall, so a student who can define a framework but cannot apply it to the case loses the top band. Financial calculation is the fastest place to recover marks before a session.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Non-literary and literary texts, assessed through guided analysis, a comparative essay, an individual oral and, at Higher Level, a separate essay on a studied work. Students who read well but write loosely sit in the middle bands; structure and a controlled line of inquiry move them up.

Arabic B and Arabic ab initio

HL, SL and ab initio

Receptive, productive and interactive skills across the IB's prescribed themes. For UAE families this course usually runs beside the school's own compulsory Arabic lessons, which follow Ministry content rather than the IB's. Keeping the two separate in a child's head is a real part of the work.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Systems fundamentals, computational thinking and a solution developed for a real client. Higher Level adds abstract data structures and a case study set annually. The solution component fails most often on documentation and testing evidence rather than on code, which is where a review session earns its fee.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Every arrangement below runs live, one-to-one, over video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. The differences are in what the hour is for, because an exam-term hour and a coursework-review hour are not interchangeable and should not be bought as though they were.

Weekly one-to-one subject teaching

A fixed slot with the same teacher each week, built around the school's own scheme of work and assessment calendar rather than a generic syllabus march. Sessions of 60 or 90 minutes sit between the school bus and dinner, which a two-hour in-home minimum rarely manages. The written summary after each session is what lets a parent see what changed.

  • Same specialist weekly, matched to subject and level, not to distance
  • Sixty or ninety minutes, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time
  • Paced against the school's assessment calendar, not a generic plan
  • A short written record after every session

Exam-term intensive blocks

Short, dense blocks of timed-paper work in the weeks before a session, usually two or three sessions a week on one or two subjects rather than light coverage of six. The work is marking, re-marking and command-term discipline. Blocks are bought as a fixed number of hours with an end date, so the spend stops when the papers do.

  • Timed papers marked against published criteria language
  • Two or three sessions a week on the weakest one or two subjects
  • A fixed hour count with a stated end date
  • Pauses through the examination weeks themselves

Coursework clinics within the honesty rules

Scheduled review sessions for the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and internal assessments, including IB Mathematics exploration support and the sciences investigation. A tutor questions the research question, teaches the criterion the student keeps missing, and reads one draft with written feedback. The student writes every word, and the school's supervisor remains the supervisor.

  • Criterion-by-criterion teaching, not editing to a finished state
  • One draft read, with written feedback the student acts on
  • Referencing and academic-honesty practice taught explicitly
  • Nothing produced that the student has not written themselves

Compulsory-subject support stream

A separate stream for Arabic and Islamic Education tutoring in Dubai and the other emirates, plus UAE Social Studies, working with the school's own material because the Ministry controls what may be used. We say plainly which stream a child is in and which streams we can support, and we decline the ones we cannot cover properly.

  • Matched to the Arab or non-Arab stream the school has placed the child in
  • Works from the school's material, not a tutor's own content pack
  • Taught in the language the school examines the child in
  • An honest no where we cannot cover the stream

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

Best IB home tutor in the UAE: what is fixed, and what is actually yours to choose

  • Changing school is the only way to change regulator, curriculum or compulsory subjects
  • Changing a Higher Level is possible, but early and in writing through the coordinator
  • Changing tutor, format and hours is possible at any point and costs nothing structurally
  • Changing an entry after the board's deadline is an administrative problem, not an academic one

Treat the search as a shortlist problem and you will compare the wrong things. Most of what determines whether a child's Diploma goes well was decided by an institution: the emirate regulator that licensed the school, the board that administers the papers, the Ministry rule that puts three extra subjects on the timetable, and the option blocks that decided which Higher Levels were even available. None of those move because a better tutor was hired.

What does move is the quality of the match inside those constraints. A family choosing between two tutors is really choosing between two levels of syllabus knowledge, two levels of honesty about availability, and two formats with very different time costs. Those are worth comparing carefully. Whether a tutor lives in Jumeirah or in Mumbai is worth almost nothing once the lesson is delivered live over video.

The table below splits the decisions. The left-hand column is the thing families most often try to influence late and at expense; the right-hand column is where the same money and attention produce a measurable result. Read it before a single enquiry goes out, because it also tells you which questions a provider should be able to answer in one sentence and which ones are not theirs to answer at all. A provider who cannot say which authority regulates your child's school, or who the entry deadline belongs to, is not going to catch the administrative mistake that costs a grade.

Four authorities sit above a single IB lesson in the UAE

A Diploma lesson in Dubai looks like a private arrangement between two people. It is not. Five separate bodies have a say in what is taught, when it is examined and who may be paid to teach it, and each of them publishes its position. A provider that cannot name them is telling you something about how closely it has read the market it sells into.

The federal position is the baseline everything else sits on: private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. That single sentence explains why an IB school in Ajman and a British school in Dubai both run the same three compulsory subjects, and why no international curriculum licence exempts a child from them.

Above the individual lesson sits the private tuition question. Paid private teaching in the UAE runs through the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and the eligible categories include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no figure is quoted here. A parent may simply ask to see the permit before the first paid lesson.

A school sector adding places faster than it adds Higher Level teachers

The reason a Higher Level specialist is hard to book in a city this size is arithmetic rather than bad luck. Dubai's private sector held 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 different curricula in 2024-25, with the UK curriculum at 37% of the roll, Indian at 26%, US at 14% and the International Baccalaureate at 7%. The Diploma is a minority programme inside a very large market.

The sector is also growing. Six new private schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%. The 2026-27 intake adds seven more, four following the UK curriculum and three the International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places. Three additional IB schools is good news for choice and awkward news for staffing, because experienced Higher Level teachers in the harder sciences and mathematics are the scarcest item in the system and new schools recruit from the same pool everybody else does.

Cost context has moved in the opposite direction. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. A family's tutoring budget is not being compressed by a fee rise this year, which makes the planning question how to spend it well rather than whether to spend at all. The sensible move in a tightening staff market is to book the scarce subject early and treat the easier ones as the flexible part of the plan, rather than the other way round.

The subjects on the timetable that a private tutor may not redesign

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are not optional extras in a Dubai private school. They are mandatory regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April. For a Diploma student that means three courses running beside six IB subjects and the core.

What surprises families is how prescriptive the rules are. Schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language; Social Studies for Arab students runs primarily in Arabic; non-Arabs are taught Islamic Education and Moral, Social and Cultural studies in the school's licensed-curriculum language.

Two further rules constrain what any outside tutor can honestly offer. Schools must ensure that teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects, and for the mandatory subjects the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited. A tutor who arrives with a worksheet pack of their own for these courses is not adding value; they are working outside the rule the school has to follow. Instructional time, meanwhile, is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, with lesson length allowed to vary provided the weekly total is met and at least 25 minutes advised for any mandatory-subject lesson.

Why the search says home tutor and the lesson happens over live video

Parents type home tutor because that is what the market has sold for twenty years in this region, and the phrase still describes the thing being bought: private, one-to-one teaching organised around the family's week rather than the school's. What has changed is that the delivery no longer requires somebody in the car. IB Gram delivers this as live one-to-one online tuition to families in all seven emirates, and home visits are a service offered in India only.

Said plainly: no IB Gram tutor attends an address in the UAE, in any emirate, at any price. That is a product decision and it has reasons a parent can check. A visiting tutor is selected from whoever teaches the subject within a tolerable drive; an online specialist is selected from everybody who has taught that syllabus at that level. For Higher Level sciences and Mathematics Analysis and Approaches, those two pools are not close in size.

The time arithmetic is the other half of it. A visiting tutor usually needs a two-hour minimum because the travel has to be worth the trip, which forces a weekday session that starts late and ends later. A 60 or 90-minute video session fits between the school bus and dinner, survives a traffic day, and can move to a post-Iftar slot during Ramadan without anybody renegotiating a driving route. The comparison below sets out what genuinely differs and what the UAE system fixes either way.

What the UAE market charges for each arrangement

Three of the six best-ranking pages for this kind of query publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, which is not the currency a UAE family transacts in. Below are the AED bands actually published by providers selling into this market, read in October 2026, with the source named in every row. These are market rates, not an IB Gram price list.

Read the bands as descriptions of what is inside the hour rather than as quality tiers. The low band usually buys supervised homework from someone with a good recent grade in the subject. The middle band usually buys a teacher who knows the paper structure and the mark scheme's language. The upper bands buy scarcity: a Higher Level specialist in a thin subject, or short-notice work in an exam term. Travel is the single biggest reason an in-home rate sits above an online one for the same teacher.

Monthly packages are where the arithmetic gets slippery. Figures seen in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions, and rate trackers put weekly one-hour tutoring at roughly AED 240-600 a month at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 mid-range and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work. Divide any package by its teaching hours before comparing it with an hourly rate, and ask what happens to unused sessions. IB Gram quotes after a consultation and a free trial lesson rather than publishing a tariff, because the hours a child needs depend on the subject, the level and how far out you are starting.

Higher Level against Standard Level, and the hours each one actually needs

The level decision does more to a tutoring budget than the choice of tutor does, and it is usually made in a rush during an option-block meeting. The IB publishes guided teaching hours of 150 for a Standard Level course and 240 for a Higher Level one. That ninety-hour gap is roughly a term and a half of classroom time, which is why a student who switches up late cannot be caught up by six weeks of private lessons, however good they are.

Points behave differently from how families expect. Every subject is scored out of 7 whether it is taken at Higher or Standard Level, with up to three further points available from the combination of Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay. Moving a struggling Higher Level down to Standard does not cost points directly. What it changes is which university courses will accept the profile afterwards, which is a question for the named university's own entry page rather than for a tutor.

Where tutoring earns its place is after the level is locked. Higher Level work is topic-specific: the extra material in a Higher Level science is depth inside the same chapters rather than separate units, so general revision does very little and targeted teaching does a lot. Standard Level students more often need exam technique, command-term discipline and timing, because the content load is manageable and the marks are lost in how answers are written rather than in what the student knows.

What each piece of internally assessed work is allowed to be

Internally assessed components are where a tutoring relationship either proves itself or becomes a liability for the student. The limits are published in the subject guides and they are limits, not targets: an Extended Essay stops at 4,000 words, a Theory of Knowledge essay at 1,600 on a prescribed title. Markers stop reading at the limit, so a student who writes past it has thrown away the best part of their argument.

Those limits move between syllabus versions, and a page that publishes them as permanent facts will eventually be wrong. Treat the table below as a working reference and confirm each figure against the current subject guide through your child's coordinator, who holds the version the school is actually teaching. The marks matter as much as the word counts. The Mathematics exploration is marked out of 20 across five criteria lettered A to E: presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. The sciences investigation is marked out of 24 across research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Students lose most of their marks in the criteria that reward thinking about the work rather than doing it.

The boundary is simple to state and the thing most essay-selling competitors ignore. A tutor may discuss a research question, teach the criterion a student keeps missing, read one draft and give written feedback the student then acts on, and teach referencing properly. A tutor may not choose the topic, supply paragraphs, process the data or edit a draft to a finished state. Your child's coordinator has to declare what outside help was used, and that declaration must be accurate. IB Gram works only on the teaching side of that line, and the most useful thing a provider can do for a worried parent is say so in writing before any money changes hands.

Who owns each deadline in the exam year

Almost every date that matters in an exam year belongs to somebody other than the parent, and the most expensive mistakes are administrative rather than academic. The pattern is easiest to see in a published Cambridge series. For the March 2027 series, the examination period runs from 3 February to 4 March 2027, but final entries are due on 27 November 2026 and forecast grades on 27 February 2027. Results reach centres through Cambridge Direct on 13 May and certificates follow in late June.

Read that sequence backwards and the planning becomes obvious. The entry deadline sits more than two months before the first paper, which means tier and subject decisions have to be settled in the autumn term, while the mocks that justify a forecast grade have to be sat and marked before late February. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Ask the school which zone it sits in, in writing.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November series, with the November 2026 final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Because Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, always work from the live official PDF rather than a date copied onto a tutoring page. IGCSE exam entry deadlines in the UAE are set by the board and submitted by the school as examination centre, never by the family. For the IB's own session dates we publish nothing: ibo.org blocks automated checking, so ask your child's coordinator and work from what the school confirms in writing.

Equivalency and attestation: what the Ministry counts, and the number nobody should invent

A Diploma or a set of IGCSEs is not automatically usable for a UAE university application. The Ministry of Education runs an equivalency route that converts a foreign secondary certificate into something UAE institutions recognise, and the requirements differ by curriculum. For the British track, students must submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade, and must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3.

Two details inside that rule are routinely got wrong by pages ranking for these queries. The first is the subject count: the reported requirement is five accredited subjects, and at least one page ranking for UAE tutoring queries tells parents it is six. The second is what counts towards the five: Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. On the American track, English proficiency is evidenced by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying.

For MoE equivalency for IB students there is a deliberate blank on this page. The reporting we have read does not state an IB points threshold, and no figure should be published without reading it on moe.gov.ae or the emirate's own attestation channel. Nor is equivalency something a tutoring company performs or influences. It is a process a family completes with the Ministry, using documents the school issues. What tuition can legitimately do is prepare a child for the standardised tests the American track asks for, and make sure the certificate arriving in June is one worth attesting.

When nobody is free: what honest unavailability looks like

No competitor page found in this market discloses a coverage limit, and several conceal non-UAE delivery behind an overseas phone number. The useful thing a provider can tell a parent is where it runs out, because a wasted trial lesson in an exam term costs more than the lesson. Our position on availability is published rather than implied, and it is the same whether you are in Dubai Marina or Dibba.

Supply is shaped by the same thing that shapes everything else here: cohort size. Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is the most requested single slot in the country, and the 5pm to 8pm Gulf Standard Time window is the most contested. Higher Level Chemistry and Physics thin out quickly in the northern emirates, where a school may run the option for a handful of students. Arts subjects at Higher Level are barely covered by any UAE provider, ourselves included, and saying so early is more useful than a hopeful maybe.

Where no UAE-based specialist is free, we match a Diploma teacher from our India-based teaching team, delivered over the same live video format, and we say that at the point of matching rather than after the first invoice. The syllabus, the board and the criteria do not change with the teacher's time zone; the session time sometimes does. Extended Essay supervision in the UAE remains with the school's own supervisor in every case, and what we provide around it is process coaching, not supervision.

Where we tutor

Which authority sits above your child's school, emirate by emirate

Tuition plans in the UAE are shaped by the emirate more than by the neighbourhood, because the emirate decides who licenses, inspects and in some cases approves the assessment your child sits. Here is the practical position in each, with what it changes for a family buying private lessons.

Dubai

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority oversees private education quality here and publishes the mandatory-subject requirements that apply whatever curriculum a school holds. With 227 private schools and 17 curricula in 2024-25, two children on the same street can sit entirely different papers.

Abu Dhabi

The Department of Education and Knowledge supervises licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate, and its professional-ethics rules for school staff bar paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school. An IB Diploma tutor in Abu Dhabi should never be your child's own class teacher taking cash.

Al Ain

Al Ain sits under the same Abu Dhabi authority as the capital, but with a smaller IB cohort and fewer Higher Level sets per school. That is precisely the situation where a drive-time search returns a tutor for the subject you did not need and nobody for the one you did.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in the emirate and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. An IB Higher Level tutor in Sharjah therefore works to a syllabus that has been cleared locally as well as by the board.

Ras Al Khaimah

Private education here is regulated by the emirate's Department of Knowledge, which also approves fees, curricula and assessment methods. Families routinely drive to Dubai or Sharjah for subject help; over live video that drive stops being part of the cost of a Tuesday evening.

Ajman

Ajman's private schools fall to the federal Ministry of Education, which supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Many Ajman Diploma students commute into Sharjah or Dubai for school, so a session rarely starts before 6pm on a weekday.

Umm Al Quwain

Also supervised federally by the Ministry of Education. The IB cohort is small enough that a single Higher Level option can run with a handful of students, which makes a specialist outside the emirate the realistic option rather than the fallback.

Fujairah

Supervised by the Ministry of Education, on the opposite coast from the Dubai school cluster. Nobody is driving a Physics Higher Level specialist over the mountains twice a week at a sensible price, which is the clearest case in the country for teaching live over video.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai, under the Knowledge and Human Development Authority

Dubai holds the largest concentration of schools running the Diploma in the country, and the 2026-27 intake adds three more IB schools among seven new openings. More schools competing for the same experienced Higher Level teachers is the supply story behind most tutoring enquiries here.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha
  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Uptown International School
  • Dwight School Dubai
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School Arabian Ranches

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, under the Department of Education and Knowledge

The capital's Diploma schools are spread between the island, Khalifa City and Al Raha, with Al Ain further inland and thinner on Higher Level sciences. ADEK's ethics rules for school staff are the reason a tutor here should be someone with no connection to your child's school.

  • Raha International School
  • GEMS World Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • Abu Dhabi International School

Sharjah and the northern emirates

Sharjah is regulated by its own authority; Ras Al Khaimah by its Department of Knowledge; Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah by the federal Ministry. Diploma cohorts shrink as you move north, which changes the question from which tutor to whether one exists within reach at all.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the school and the emirate first

Not just the subject. Which school, which emirate, which programme and which level decides the regulator, the board, the compulsory subjects and the option blocks a tutor has to work inside. Two Diploma students in different emirates can need different plans for the same subject at the same level.

  2. 02

A short consultation, with the dates on the table

We ask what the last three pieces of assessed work scored, which session the school has registered the child for, and what the coordinator has said about coursework deadlines. That conversation decides whether this is a two-year build or a single-term push, and roughly how many hours it needs.

  3. 03

Matched to a named specialist, with availability stated

You are told who the teacher is, what they have taught at that level, and whether they are based in the UAE or elsewhere. If nobody suitable is free for the time you need, we say so at this point rather than offering a near-enough match and hoping.

  4. 04

A free trial lesson before any payment

One lesson, with the specialist you would continue with, on a topic you choose from recent schoolwork. No payment is taken before it and no card is held. You get a written summary afterwards saying what the teacher found, which is the honest basis for deciding whether to carry on.

  5. 05

A weekly slot, a written record, and a review date

Lessons run live over video in Gulf Standard Time, with a short written note after each one. We set a review date about six sessions in to look at what has actually changed in the marks. Sessions move for Ramadan timings, mocks and the examination weeks themselves.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The regulator is named, not implied

This page names KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge and the federal Ministry of Education, and says what each one governs. IB Gram holds no permit, licence or recognition from any of them, and claims none. Explaining a regulator is useful; borrowing its authority is not.

Every AED figure carries its source

The rate table quotes what other providers and a published rate tracker put in print, read in October 2026, with the source in the row. We publish no invented statistics, no satisfaction percentages and no self-assigned star ratings, because a figure without a source is worth nothing to a parent comparing options.

Coursework is taught, never produced

There are operations in this market selling completed internal assessments. We teach the criterion, question the research question and read one draft with written feedback. The student writes the work. That is an IB rule, and it is also the difference between help that survives a coordinator's declaration and help that ends a Diploma.

Delivery is stated before you pay, not after

Lessons are live, one-to-one and online. No IB Gram tutor attends an address in the UAE; home visits are a service offered in India. If the specialist for your subject sits outside the UAE, you are told at the point of matching, with no overseas phone number standing in for an explanation.

Dates come from the body that sets them

Cambridge and Pearson dates on this page come from the boards' own published key dates and timetables. The IB's session dates are absent on purpose, because ibo.org blocks automated checking and an unverified date on a tutoring page is how a family misses a deadline that belongs to the school.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

Why is this page about a home tutor when the lessons happen over live video?+

Because home tutor is the phrase UAE parents actually search, and it describes the service accurately: private, one-to-one teaching organised around your family's week. The delivery is the part that has changed. IB Gram teaches live, one-to-one, over video to families in all seven emirates, and home visits are a service offered in India only. No IB Gram tutor attends an address in the UAE. The trade is deliberate: you give up somebody in the room and you get the specialist who has actually taught your child's syllabus at that level, instead of whoever teaches that subject within a tolerable drive.

Which parts of my child's IB course are fixed before I hire anybody?+

More than most families expect. The curriculum the school is licensed to teach, the authority that inspects it, the compulsory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies lessons, the exam board, the timetable zone, the option blocks that decided which Higher Levels were available, and the session the school registers for are all settled by institutions. What is left to you is genuinely significant: which specialist teaches your child, at what level, for how many hours a week, in what session length, and when the work starts relative to the entry deadline. Spend your attention there, because that is where it changes an outcome.

Which authority licensed my child's school, and what does it reach into?+

It depends on the emirate. Dubai's private schools sit with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain sit with the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises licensing and accreditation of private schools there. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority and Ras Al Khaimah its Department of Knowledge; both approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education. So the body above your school can reach into fees and assessment methods, not just inspection, and its school listing is where you verify any school a provider names.

Does the federal Ministry of Education decide anything inside an IB school?+

Yes. Private schools in the UAE are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but they must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. That federal baseline is why an IB school and a British school in the same street both run the same three compulsory subjects, and why no international curriculum licence exempts a child from them. For the mandatory subjects the Ministry also controls content: using different or additional material without prior permission is strictly prohibited, which is a real limit on what any outside tutor can offer in those lessons.

Dubai opens seven more private schools in 2026-27. Does that help us find a Higher Level teacher?+

Not immediately, and possibly the opposite in the short term. The seven new schools include three running the International Baccalaureate, and they create 16,846 new places. Those schools recruit experienced Higher Level teachers from the same pool every existing school draws on, and the pool grows more slowly than the seat count. Six schools opened in 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6% over the same period. More choice of school is good news. For a family trying to book a Higher Level Chemistry specialist in an exam term, it mostly means booking earlier and accepting that the right teacher may not live nearby.

Why is a tutor not free to invent their own Islamic Education or Social Studies material?+

Because the content for the mandatory UAE subjects is controlled. KHDA's guidance states that for these subjects the use of any different or additional content, without prior permission from the Ministry of Education, is strictly prohibited. Schools must also ensure that teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate KHDA approval to teach them. So a tutor arriving with a worksheet pack of their own is not adding value in these lessons; they are working outside the rule the school itself has to follow. Legitimate support means working from the school's own material, in the language the school assesses the child in, on revision method and exam technique.

Our school builds its timetable from 40-minute units. How long should a tuition session be?+

KHDA calculates mandatory-subject instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit, allows schools to vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and advises at least 25 minutes for any mandatory-subject lesson. That tells you something useful about attention: a child used to 40-minute blocks does not suddenly concentrate for 120. For Diploma subject teaching we normally use 60 or 90 minutes, which gives room for a timed question plus feedback without losing the second half. A visiting tutor's two-hour minimum usually exists because the travel has to be worth the trip, not because two hours teaches better.

Which criteria is the IB Mathematics exploration marked against, letter by letter?+

The exploration is marked out of 20 across five criteria lettered A to E: presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics, with use of mathematics carrying the largest allocation. Most students arrive with the mathematics in reasonable shape and lose marks on reflection and personal engagement, because those reward writing about the decisions made rather than the calculation itself. Confirm the exact allocations against the current subject guide through your child's coordinator, since criteria wording and marks change between syllabus versions. A tutor may teach the mathematics and show how reflection is credited; selecting the topic or writing the commentary is not available at any price.

Does the Extended Essay really have to stop at 4,000 words?+

Yes, 4,000 words is a maximum rather than a target, and it is enforced by markers simply stopping at the limit. A student who writes 4,600 words has thrown away whatever argument sat in the last 600, which is usually the conclusion they worked hardest on. Confirm the current figure with the coordinator, because component requirements move between guide versions. A tutor's legitimate role is to question whether the research question is answerable in that length, teach referencing properly, and read one draft with written feedback the student then acts on. The supervisor remains the school's supervisor throughout.

How many taught hours separate a Higher Level subject from a Standard Level one?+

The IB publishes guided teaching hours of 150 for a Standard Level course and 240 for a Higher Level one. The ninety-hour difference is roughly a term and a half of classroom time, which is the single most useful number in any conversation about switching levels. It explains why moving up late in the first Diploma year rarely works, and why six weeks of private lessons cannot substitute for it. Moving down is a different matter and often sensible, because every subject is scored out of 7 regardless of level. The real cost of moving down is which university courses will accept the profile afterwards.

My daughter wants to move a Higher Level down to Standard Level. Who has to agree?+

The school does, through the Diploma coordinator, and the window is narrower than most families assume because the change has to be reflected in the registration the school submits to the IB. Ask in writing, ask early, and ask what the deadline for the change actually is rather than when the coordinator would prefer to discuss it. Before you ask, check the entry requirements of the courses your daughter is likely to apply to, since medicine, engineering and economics-type degrees commonly expect specific subjects at Higher Level. A tutor can tell you whether the current grade is recoverable; only the university can tell you whether the profile still works.

Can a UAE family enter a child for IGCSE as a private candidate?+

Entries are made by a registered examination centre, not by a family directly, so the practical question is which centre in the UAE will accept a private candidate for the subjects you want and in which series. Some schools and independent centres do; many do not, and availability varies by subject because practical and speaking components need facilities and assessors. Ask the centre about final entry deadlines, the administrative zone its timetable follows, and which components it can host before you plan any teaching. Entry deadlines sit months before the papers, so this is an autumn-term conversation for a spring series, not a spring one.

Who owns each deadline in the exam year, the school, the board or us?+

Almost none of them belong to the family. In Cambridge's published March 2027 series, final entries fall on 27 November 2026 and are submitted by the school as examination centre; forecast grades are due on 27 February 2027 from the subject teacher; the exam period runs 3 February to 4 March 2027 and is set by Cambridge, by zone; results reach centres on 13 May and certificates in late June. The family owns only the preparation and the decisions that feed those dates: level choices before entries close, and mocks sat early enough for a forecast grade to rest on evidence.

Is the equivalency file something a tutoring provider should be handling for us?+

No. Ministry of Education equivalency is a process a family completes with the Ministry and the emirate's attestation channel, using documents the school issues. Any provider offering to perform or secure it is overstating its role. What the reporting does establish for the British track is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE at no less than E or grade 3, plus one Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from the five. For the IB there is no points figure we can cite, so verify it on moe.gov.ae rather than trusting any tutoring page.

Which IB subjects run short of teachers across the UAE, and what then?+

Higher Level Chemistry and Physics are the usual pressure points, badly so in the northern emirates where a school might run the option for a handful of students. Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is not scarce so much as congested, with everybody wanting the same 5pm to 8pm Gulf Standard Time window. Higher Level arts subjects are barely covered by providers in this market, ourselves included. Where no UAE-based specialist is free we match a Diploma teacher from our India-based team over the same live video format, and we say so at matching. Where we cannot cover a subject properly, we decline on the first call.

If our tutor teaches from outside the UAE, whose rules apply?+

The IB's academic-honesty rules and your school's own policies apply regardless of where the teacher sits, and those are the rules that can actually affect your child's Diploma. The MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, governs individuals providing paid private tuition in the UAE; it is granted free of charge for two years and covers categories including registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. How long is the Theory of Knowledge essay, and what else does the course require?+

The Theory of Knowledge essay is written on a prescribed title set by the IB and runs to a maximum of 1,600 words, alongside an exhibition component in which a student explains how objects connect to a prompt. It is externally marked. Theory of Knowledge is also one half of the combination that can add up to three points to a Diploma total, with the Extended Essay, so it is worth more attention than its timetable allocation suggests. A tutor can teach the knowledge framework and question the strength of an argument. Choosing the line of argument, or drafting the essay, is not legitimate help.

Does my child's UAE school even offer the November IB session?+

Not necessarily, and it is worth establishing before anybody plans around a retake. UAE schools overwhelmingly sit the May session, which fits the local academic year, and whether a November option exists for your child depends on what the school registers for rather than on what the IB offers globally. Ask the coordinator in writing which session the registration names and what the school's position is on a November retake. We publish no IB session or results dates on this page: ibo.org blocks automated checking, so any date here would be unverified, and a wrong date is how a family misses something that belongs to the school.

Start with the school, the emirate and the session

If you are weighing up the best IB home tutor in the UAE, the three facts that shape every sensible answer are which school your child attends, which emirate regulates it, and which session the school has registered for. Send those with the subject and level and we can tell you in one conversation whether a specialist is free for the time you need, whether the plan is a two-year build or a single-term push, and roughly how many hours it takes. The first lesson is free and happens before any payment. Lessons are live, one-to-one and online, and if we cannot cover your child's subject properly we will say so on that first call.
