IB Chemistry Tutor in Sobha Hartland

Parents searching for an IB Chemistry tutor in Sobha Hartland are usually asking one question: is there anybody nearby who genuinely knows this syllabus, rather than somebody who knows chemistry. Those are different qualifications, and the honest answer for a compact creek-side community with two schools in it is that the local pool is small. This page gives you three questions that separate a Diploma Chemistry specialist from a general science tutor, and explains how we close the gap. Lessons are one-to-one and live online in Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Sobha Hartland

Knowing chemistry and knowing Diploma Chemistry are not the same job

A chemistry graduate can explain why a reaction goes. A Diploma Chemistry teacher can also tell you that the student lost two marks because the question said deduce and the answer explained, that the enthalpy question needed a sign the student omitted, and that the investigation's research question has no measurable dependent variable. Parents hiring in Sobha Hartland are usually buying the first competence and hoping for the second. The gap between them is most of the reason a term of tuition sometimes changes nothing.

This is sharper in Chemistry than in most subjects because the content looks familiar. A parent who studied chemistry anywhere in the world recognises moles, bonding and equilibrium, and reasonably concludes that a tutor who knows those topics is qualified. But the 2023 Diploma Chemistry course is organised as two themes, structure and reactivity, each split into sub-themes that deliberately cut across the old topic boundaries. A tutor working from a pre-2023 mental map will teach correct chemistry in the wrong order and will not recognise the linking questions the papers now ask.

Sobha Hartland's geography makes the supply problem concrete. It is a compact masterplan on the Ras Al Khor side of the creek with two substantial international schools inside it and a short run to several more through Meydan and along Al Khail Road. That means a small resident population of secondary science teachers. It also means that the few who do tutor locally are in heavy demand across every science and every level, so a Diploma Chemistry Higher Level student is competing for attention with Year 8 general science. Searching for a tutor near me returns results; it does not return a filter for the syllabus.

There is a second filter parents cannot easily apply, and it is the one that matters most. The scientific investigation is 20% of the Chemistry grade at both levels, and supporting it properly requires a tutor who has read the current assessment criteria and who understands where the academic-honesty line sits. A tutor who offers to tidy up the write-up is not a help, they are a risk to the student's Diploma. A tutor who challenges the research question before any data is collected is worth several times their rate. Nothing in a local search result distinguishes the two.

So this page is built as a verification tool rather than a brochure. It sets out what the syllabus actually contains, gives you three questions whose answers reveal whether a tutor has taught it, prices the market so you can see what you should expect to pay for the specialism, and states plainly what IB Gram does and does not do. Lessons are one-to-one and online. We will tell you when no Chemistry specialist is free rather than substituting a generalist at the same rate.

At a glance

  • Diploma Chemistry was restructured for first teaching in 2023 into structure and reactivity themes
  • The scientific investigation is 20% of the grade at both Standard and Higher Level
  • IB students were 7% of Dubai private school enrolment in 2024-25, so DP specialists are scarce
  • Market online rates for qualified subject tutors run AED 150-300; specialists AED 200-450 or more
  • A free trial lesson comes before any payment, so the verification costs nothing
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three IB stages touch a Sobha Hartland Chemistry student, and the specialism needed differs sharply between them. The notes below describe what each stage demands of a tutor in this part of Dubai, which is the thing a local search result cannot tell you.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Chemistry

Two years, Standard Level at roughly 150 teaching hours or Higher Level at roughly 240. Assessed by Paper 1, Paper 2 and the scientific investigation, which is worth 20% at both levels. The course is built around structure and reactivity rather than discrete topic islands, and the papers reward students who can move between them: a bonding answer that reaches for an energetics argument is doing what the course asks. Higher Level adds depth inside each sub-theme rather than appending separate options.

Both schools inside the Sobha Hartland masterplan run senior science, and families here also reach Diploma Chemistry at schools in Al Jaddaf, Nad Al Sheba and Al Garhoud. A school's KHDA inspection band says nothing specific about its chemistry department, so ask directly how many teachers cover DP Chemistry and whether both levels are taught separately.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme Sciences

Integrated sciences assessed against four criteria scored as levels out of 8 rather than percentages. For a future chemist the decisive criterion is processing and evaluating, because it is the direct ancestor of the Diploma investigation. A student who reaches DP1 unable to handle uncertainty, significant figures or a properly labelled graph did not fail to learn chemistry; they were never assessed sharply enough on the processing criterion to notice.

In Dubai this sits alongside KHDA's mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies requirement, which applies in every private school regardless of the licensed curriculum. For a Sobha Hartland Year 10 that is real timetable pressure, and it is why science support at this age usually has to fit one weekday evening rather than spreading across the week.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Chemistry as the entry route

Cambridge Chemistry 0620 or Pearson Edexcel 4CH1, sat at 16, is how most Sobha Hartland students arrive at Diploma Chemistry. The Extended tier carries the quantitative treatment that the Diploma assumes; the Core tier does not. The specific gap is mole calculations carried through multi-step problems, and it is far cheaper to close in the summer before DP1 than to discover in an October class test.

UAE candidates sit Cambridge in the June and November series; the February-March series is offered to India only and does not apply to a Dubai student. For MoE equivalency on the British track, five accredited IGCSE or GCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3 are required, with Arabic and Islamic Education excluded from that count.

COREAges 16-19 · Across both DP years

The Diploma core alongside Chemistry

Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service run beside the six subjects. Chemistry students disproportionately choose the Extended Essay in Chemistry and disproportionately choose a research question that cannot be answered with school apparatus. Narrowing it early is worth more than any later writing support, and the supervision relationship belongs to the school teacher who signs the authenticity declaration.

Sobha Hartland families often travel during the Diploma, and the core components are the ones that slip when a schedule breaks. Online delivery keeps the thread intact from a relative's house abroad or a temporary apartment in Business Bay, because nothing in the arrangement depends on a car reaching a specific address.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Chemistry is the page, but a Sobha Hartland family is choosing within a six-subject Diploma. These are the subjects most often supported alongside Chemistry here, with what a tutor has to know about each rather than a description of the course.

Chemistry

HL and SL

The subject of this page. Marks concentrate in three places: sign conventions and units in energetics, mechanism arrow precision in organic chemistry, and the uncertainty treatment in the investigation. All three are technique rather than talent, which is why a specialist moves them and a generalist usually does not.

Biology

HL and SL

The most common Chemistry pairing in Dubai, driven by medicine and life-science applications. The shared skill is the investigation: same criteria, same uncertainty expectations. The trap is scheduling, because both internal deadlines frequently land within the same half-term and the school sets them independently.

Physics

HL and SL

Paired with Chemistry by engineering applicants. The transferable habit is quantitative discipline; the non-transferable one is reasoning style, since Physics rewards a clean derivation and Chemistry rewards a mechanism justified step by step. Students strong in one often write the other in the wrong register.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Logarithms, exponentials and rearrangement underpin pH, kinetics and equilibrium calculations. A Chemistry HL student weak in AA algebra will appear to have a chemistry problem when the problem is manipulation, and a specialist diagnoses that distinction in one session.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The statistical content is genuinely useful for treating repeated measurements in the Chemistry investigation. The algebraic ceiling is lower, so a Chemistry HL student on AI usually needs the logarithmic work covered explicitly rather than assumed.

Environmental Systems and Societies

SL

Chosen by students who want a science without a second lab-heavy commitment. It shares vocabulary with Chemistry and almost none of its quantitative demand, which is exactly why students who swap into it mid-DP1 still need the Chemistry grade protecting first.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

HL and SL

An increasingly common third science in Dubai schools. The relevance to Chemistry support is the overlap in biochemical content and the fact that both courses demand an independent investigation, doubling the planning load in the same school term.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Where science students most often lose aggregate points. Paper 1 rewards a structural argument rather than content recall, an unfamiliar mode for a student whose other subjects reward factual precision, and it is usually the cheapest grade to move in a Diploma.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Chemistry students have good raw material for TOK and frequently present it badly, treating a knowledge question as a chemistry question with a correct answer. The essay and exhibition are assessed and feed the bonus points alongside the Extended Essay.

Extended Essay in Chemistry

Core · 4,000 words

A 4,000-word independent investigation supervised by a school teacher. The dominant failure mode is a research question requiring instrumentation the school does not own. A tutor can interrogate feasibility and teach structure; the student writes every word and the school supervises.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes cover nearly every Chemistry enquiry from this neighbourhood, and they differ mainly in who sets the agenda. Choosing by price rather than by shape is the usual way a family buys hours that do not address the problem.

Weekly one-to-one across the Diploma

A fixed slot each week tracking your child's school scheme of work rather than a generic syllabus order. This is the shape that makes the investigation manageable, because it gets attention in the term the school actually sets it instead of in the fortnight before the internal deadline. Highest total cost, lowest cost per unit of grade movement.

  • One 60 or 90-minute session weekly, same time, Gulf Standard Time
  • Written session notes to the parent after each lesson
  • Pauses for mock weeks and family travel without losing the slot
  • The investigation timeline mapped to your school's internal deadline

A component block with an end date

Eight to twelve sessions aimed at something named: organic mechanisms, energetics and sign conventions, equilibrium and pH calculations, or Paper 2 extended-response structure. The block has a syllabus checklist and a finish line, which suits families who want a bounded spend rather than an open commitment.

  • A named topic or component and a fixed session count agreed first
  • Practice drawn from your child's own school paper access
  • Mark-scheme language taught explicitly rather than implied
  • A written handover listing what is still open at the end

Investigation support within the honesty line

A tutor teaches the assessment criteria, challenges whether the research question can be answered with the apparatus the school owns, teaches uncertainty propagation, and gives feedback on a draft the student wrote. No writing, no data, no editing to completion. The school supervisor remains the supervisor and signs the authenticity declaration.

  • Research-question feasibility tested before data collection begins
  • Uncertainty and error analysis taught against the criteria
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, in the student's own words
  • Nothing written, supplied or completed on the student's behalf

A single verification session

One session whose output is a written diagnosis rather than teaching, for families who want to know whether the problem is content, technique or workload before committing. It frequently recommends fewer hours than the parent expected, which is a legitimate result and the reason this option is listed.

  • One session, one written diagnosis, no obligation to continue
  • Marked papers and class tests reviewed for the real pattern
  • An explicit statement of what tuition will not fix
  • A recommended session count, occasionally zero

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Sobha Hartland

01

The honest answer on finding a Chemistry specialist near Sobha Hartland

Searching for a Chemistry tutor near Sobha Hartland will return names. What it will not return is a filter for the specialism you need, and the supply arithmetic is worth stating plainly. International Baccalaureate students made up 7% of Dubai private school enrolment in 2024-25, against 37% for UK curriculum schools, per Dubai Media Office figures. The pool of teachers who have actually taught Diploma Chemistry is therefore a small fraction of the pool who have taught IGCSE science, and Higher Level narrows it further.

Sobha Hartland compresses that further still. A compact masterplan with two schools inside it has a small resident population of senior science teachers, and those who tutor locally are in demand across every science and every age group. Hiring on a map radius means ranking candidates by driving distance, which is a criterion with no relationship to whether they know the 2023 course structure. The parent is applying the only filter available to them and it is the wrong filter.

That is why we deliver this subject online and say so on the first screen. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; nobody travels to an address in Sobha Hartland or anywhere else in the Emirates, and home visiting is a service we run in India only. The trade is explicit: you lose a person in the room and you gain selection from every available Diploma Chemistry specialist in a Gulf Standard Time evening rather than from whoever lives nearby.

The table below is the version of availability most providers will not publish. It states, by subject and level, how deep the UAE-based pool actually is, what a realistic match time looks like, and what happens when nothing is free. No competitor page found in the research for this project discloses a coverage limit at all, and several conceal non-UAE delivery behind an overseas phone number.

What the Diploma Chemistry course now contains, and why the 2023 change matters

A tutor who knows this syllabus will describe it as two themes. Structure covers models of the particulate nature of matter and models of bonding and structure. Reactivity covers what drives chemical reactions, how much and how fast a reaction occurs, and the electron-transfer and proton-transfer processes underneath. The sub-themes deliberately cut across the boundaries that older courses drew, so a question can legitimately require a bonding idea to explain a reactivity observation.

This is the single most useful verification point available to a parent. A tutor whose mental map predates 2023 will teach topics in the old sequence and will teach them correctly, but will not anticipate the linking questions the current papers ask, and will not recognise that a student's difficulty is a failure to connect two sub-themes rather than a gap in either. The chemistry is right and the preparation is wrong, which is exactly the failure a hiring parent cannot detect from a qualification.

Assessment is Paper 1, Paper 2 and the scientific investigation at 20% of the grade at both levels. Higher Level adds depth inside each sub-theme rather than appending a separable module, which means a student comfortable at Standard Level can still be caught by a Higher Level question on the same ground that demands a fuller treatment. Command terms decide the marks: state, outline, describe, explain, deduce, determine and comment each specify a different answer shape, and a correct chemical idea in the wrong shape loses marks for a reason the student cannot diagnose alone.

The quantitative spine is where a generalist most often falls short. Mole calculations carried through several steps, sign conventions in enthalpy, logarithmic work in pH and equilibrium, and uncertainty propagation in experimental data are all examinable and all teachable. They are also the reason a Chemistry Higher Level student weak in algebra appears to have a chemistry problem.

Three questions that reveal whether a tutor has taught this course

  • Ask how the course is structured and what changed in 2023; listen for structure and reactivity
  • Ask the investigation weighting: 20% at both levels, and nothing the tutor writes
  • Ask whether they want your school's internal deadline before planning anything
  • A tutor who offers to polish the write-up has told you to walk away
  • Specificity beats confidence; a list of topics is not a syllabus answer

You do not need to know chemistry to test a Chemistry tutor. You need three questions whose answers only a practitioner has. Ask them in a trial lesson or on a call, and listen for specificity rather than confidence.

First: how is the current Diploma Chemistry course structured, and what changed for first teaching in 2023? A specialist answers with structure and reactivity, names the sub-themes, and usually volunteers that the change forces linking across topic boundaries. A generalist describes a list of topics, or talks about options, which the current course does not have in the old sense. This one question sorts most candidates.

Second: what is the weighting of the scientific investigation, and what will you do with my child's draft? The weighting is 20% at both Standard and Higher Level, and the right answer to the second half is uncomfortable to hear and correct: the tutor will read it, ask questions, teach the criteria and the uncertainty treatment, and will not write, edit to completion or supply data. A tutor who offers to tidy it up is proposing something that puts your child's Diploma at risk and not theirs.

Third: what is my school's internal deadline for the investigation, and have you asked me for it? A specialist asks this in the first conversation, because the school sets it locally, it varies by several weeks between the schools serving Sobha Hartland, and it is the hinge the whole two-year plan turns on. A tutor who has not asked is not planning the work, they are selling hours. Those three answers tell you more than any certificate, and the trial lesson that produces them is free.

04

Organic mechanisms, and the other places Chemistry marks disappear

  • Teach recurring organic behaviours, not a list of named reactions
  • Mechanism arrows are marked for start and end point; nearly right scores nothing
  • Enthalpy sign conventions lose marks from students who understand the chemistry
  • Equilibrium and pH difficulty is often algebraic rather than chemical
  • Conclusions that ignore the student's own uncertainties lose easy criterion marks

Organic chemistry is where Sobha Hartland parents most often report that their child has hit a wall, and it is usually not a memory problem. Students try to learn reactions as a list of inputs and outputs, which works for a dozen examples and collapses when the paper asks for a mechanism or an unfamiliar substrate. The fix is to teach the small number of recurring behaviours and then let the specific reactions fall out of them, which takes a handful of sessions rather than a term of memorisation.

Arrow precision is the second organic failure. Marks are allocated for an arrow starting at the right electron source and ending at the right destination, and a nearly-right arrow scores nothing. Students who have never had a mechanism marked harshly do not know this, and schools under time pressure often mark generously in class. A specialist marks to the real standard in a trial lesson, which is frequently the moment a parent understands what the grade problem actually is.

Outside organic, three patterns recur. Enthalpy sign errors, where the chemistry is understood and the sign is dropped. Equilibrium and pH work where the obstacle is logarithmic manipulation rather than chemistry. And the investigation, where a student computes uncertainties correctly and then writes a conclusion that ignores them, losing marks in the criterion that was within reach.

What all four have in common is that they are diagnosable from marked work in a single session, and none of them require a term of general revision. That is why we push a verification session ahead of a package. A parent who buys ten hours before anyone has read the marked papers is paying a specialist rate for the first four hours of detective work.

05

What Chemistry support costs in this market, read monthly

Monthly totals are the useful lens, because that is how a family actually budgets. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table estimates a weekly one-hour session at AED 240 to AED 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Published package examples in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions, which is roughly double the money for half the contact hours.

Converted to hours, the bands are these. Budget online tuition runs AED 45 to AED 150, with EdFlik advertising from AED 45 to AED 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52. Qualified subject tutors online sit at AED 150 to AED 300, Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Specialists run AED 200 to AED 450 or more, TutorChase at AED 270. In-home one-to-one carries the travel premium at AED 180 to AED 350 per Bestimate, with independent home tutors advertising up to AED 500. Premium examiner-led support reaches AED 650 at BartyED.

For Diploma Chemistry specifically, the band you need is the specialist one, because the whole argument of this page is that the specialism is the product. Paying the budget rate for Higher Level Chemistry buys someone who knows chemistry, which is the gap this page exists to describe. Paying the premium rate for content coverage the school already delivered is the mirror-image waste.

None of these figures are IB Gram's prices, and three of the six strongest competitor pages for this query publish no price at all. They are the market's, cited so you can verify them, read in October 2026. What we cost comes out of a consultation after a free trial lesson, because the honest answer depends on level, component and weeks remaining.

What the Chemistry grade is for: MoE equivalency and what comes next

A Chemistry grade in Dubai has a second audience beyond the university application, and it is the one most families discover late. The UAE Ministry of Education operates an equivalency process for secondary certificates, and the requirements differ sharply by curriculum track. Knowing them early changes subject choices, which is a cheaper intervention than any tuition.

On the British track the sourced position is specific. A student must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and must submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. One ranking competitor publishes a six-subject requirement, which is wrong, and publishing the correct five-subject rule is a straightforward factual advantage.

On the American track, English proficiency requires a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the International Baccalaureate, no points threshold is published here, because none was found on a Ministry source. Any site quoting an IB equivalency score without a moe.gov.ae citation is guessing, and this page will not join them.

Two boundaries matter. IB Gram does not perform, submit or guarantee equivalency or attestation; it is a process run by the Ministry and the emirate authority, and parents should use the official channel. And tutoring is not required for equivalency, university admission or school progression. Any provider implying that it is has turned a regulatory process into a sales argument.

KHDA, the schools around Sobha Hartland, and what a band does not say

  • KHDA regulates Dubai; ADEK, SPEA, the RAK Department of Knowledge and the MoE cover the rest
  • An inspection band is a whole-school judgement, not a verdict on the chemistry department
  • Ask how many teachers cover DP Chemistry and whether HL and SL are taught separately
  • KHDA confirmed no private school fee increase for 2026-27 on 22 May 2026
  • IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, MoE, IB or Cambridge approval, accreditation or partnership

Dubai private schools are regulated by KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi has ADEK, Sharjah the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah its Department of Knowledge, and the federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. A Sobha Hartland family deals with KHDA, which matters if you relocate within the UAE mid-Diploma.

KHDA inspects annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak and publishes the report. What it will not tell you is whether the chemistry department is strong, because judgements aggregate across phases and subject groups. A school rated Outstanding may run Diploma Chemistry with one teacher covering both levels and no capacity for anything else; a school rated Good may have a deep science team. Ask the school how many teachers cover DP Chemistry and whether Higher and Standard Level are taught separately.

Market context is worth holding. Dubai had 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25 offering 17 different curricula. The 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places; six opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%. KHDA also confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for 2026-27, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total.

One KHDA requirement bears directly on a Chemistry student's week. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and KHDA advises that no mandatory subject lesson run shorter than 25 minutes. That time competes with chemistry revision, which is why a realistic plan beats an ambitious one.

08

Permits, and how a Sobha Hartland parent verifies a tutor independently

  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free of charge and valid for two years
  • Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 is the instrument; MoHRE states two working days
  • No fine amount is officially published, so treat any quoted figure as unverified
  • A training institute with premises needs a KHDA permit; an individual tutor does not
  • Paid tuition from your child's own school teacher runs into the permit's code of conduct

You can check the legal position yourself rather than trusting a provider's claim, and the facts are published. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through MoHRE. u.ae states it is granted free of charge for two years, so anyone quoting a permit fee is mistaken. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students.

MoHRE's own service page is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time, and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. u.ae also states that individuals offering private tutoring without a MoHRE permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no figure appears on this page; a number circulating online could not be verified against any official source.

A separate category is routinely confused with this one. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. That is a different instrument from an individual tutor's MoHRE permit, and marketing copy in this market blurs the two constantly. IB Gram holds neither and claims neither.

One boundary before you consider asking a teacher at your child's school. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff in Abu Dhabi prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the teacher's own school, and the code of conduct attached to the MoHRE permit also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Starting, and what we say when no Chemistry specialist is free

  • Give us the level, the school, the failing component and the internal deadline
  • Use the free trial to ask the three verification questions in this page
  • No specialist free means a date, not a general science substitute
  • Sessions are scheduled in Gulf Standard Time around the school run
  • Form data is used only to make a match and deleted on request

The sequence is short. Tell us the level, the school, the topic or component losing marks, and your school's internal deadline for the investigation. We propose a tutor and a slot. You take a free trial lesson with no payment and no card. Put the three verification questions from this page to the tutor during it. If the match is wrong, say so and we propose someone else.

Then the uncomfortable part, which we would rather publish than discover with you. Diploma Chemistry Higher Level is a narrow specialism and there are evenings when nobody who genuinely covers it is free in a Gulf Standard Time slot. When that happens we give you a date instead of a substitute. The alternative, which this market does quietly, is to fill the hour with a general science tutor at the specialist rate, and for a Higher Level student that is worse than waiting a week.

On where tutors are: our Chemistry specialists work across the UAE and India, and sessions run in your time zone. Nobody travels to a UAE address. There is no IB Gram office, centre or branch in the Emirates, and the conversion path here is a UAE-appropriate enquiry form and a free trial rather than an overseas phone number, which two ranking competitors use on UAE pages.

On data: the form collects a child's name, year group, school and the subject needing help, because a match cannot be made without them. It is used to propose a tutor and for nothing else, and it can be deleted on request. The privacy notice is linked from every page, consistent with UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on Personal Data Protection.

Where we tutor

Where Sobha Hartland Chemistry students actually come from

Demand for Diploma Chemistry support in this corridor does not spread evenly. These are the communities whose students we teach alongside Sobha Hartland families, noted for what each changes about the realistic supply of a subject specialist nearby.

Sobha Hartland

Two international schools inside a compact masterplan off Al Ain Road. Short school runs make an early evening slot genuinely workable, but the resident pool of senior science teachers is small enough to be a constraint.

Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Immediately adjacent and sharing both the school options and the Meydan approach roads. Villa plots spread the catchment wider, so families here commonly commute further to school than Sobha Hartland residents do.

Meydan and Nad Al Sheba

Two established schools serving low-density villa communities. The drive looks short on a map and is unpredictable at pickup, which is the usual reason a fixed in-home slot fails here.

Business Bay

Dense apartments with no large school inside the district, so children commute outward in several directions. Sibling timetables diverge more here than almost anywhere else in Dubai.

Al Jaddaf and Culture Village

Home to an IB continuum school drawing from across the creek corridor. A useful reference point for Sobha Hartland families comparing a continuum route against British-then-Diploma.

Downtown Dubai

A short hop across the creek side of Al Khail. Parents often work within walking distance of home, which makes an adult present at a 5pm session more realistic than in commuter areas.

Al Quoz

Mixed residential and industrial with several large British and Indian-curriculum schools. Students from here usually sit IGCSE before the Diploma, and the quantitative chemistry gap at that transition drives most first enquiries.

DIFC

Few resident families, late working hours, strong preference for sessions after 7pm. The clearest local case where online delivery is not a compromise but the only arrangement that functions.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Sobha Hartland

Inside and beside Sobha Hartland

The two schools within the masterplan anchor demand in this neighbourhood. Both run a British route into senior qualifications, both are inspected by KHDA, and both attract families who moved here specifically so the school run is a walk rather than a drive.

  • Hartland International School
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • Kent College Dubai
  • GEMS Modern Academy

The creek and Al Khail corridor

Within a realistic school run of Sobha Hartland, this group covers the IB continuum, British-then-Diploma and Indian-curriculum routes. Chemistry students we support come from across it, and their internal investigation deadlines differ by several weeks school to school.

  • Deira International School
  • Credence High School
  • JSS Private School
  • GEMS Our Own Indian School
  • Horizon English School
  • Safa British School

Schools are named to describe the private-school market around Sobha Hartland. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any school named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Describe the actual problem

Ten minutes on the level, the school, the last two assessments and the topic losing marks. Bring a marked paper if you have one, because organic arrows and enthalpy signs show the diagnosis faster than any description. This conversation costs nothing.

  2. 02

Take the free trial and test the tutor

A trial lesson with a Diploma Chemistry specialist, not a sales call. Ask the three verification questions from this page. The student works on something real and the tutor forms a view on whether the issue is content, technique or workload.

  3. 03

Agree a shape and a count

Weekly across the Diploma, a named component block, or investigation support. The session count is agreed up front and written down, and we will say so if the diagnosis does not justify the number of hours you had in mind.

  4. 04

Fix a slot the school run survives

A standing Gulf Standard Time slot that works around a Sobha Hartland pickup. Sessions move rather than disappear when a mock week or a trip lands, and a rescheduled lesson usually lands inside the same week.

  5. 05

    Review against the marked work

Written notes after every session showing what was covered and what remains open. If the pattern of lost marks has not shifted after six sessions, that is a signal to change approach rather than to buy more of the same.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The specialism is the product

The tutor teaching Diploma Chemistry Higher Level has taught Diploma Chemistry Higher Level, and can describe the structure and reactivity themes without prompting. Online delivery is what makes that available to a Sobha Hartland family rather than whoever lives within a twenty-minute drive.

You can verify us before paying

Three questions in this page test any Chemistry tutor, including ours, and the trial lesson in which you ask them is free. A provider confident in its specialists should be handing parents the test rather than hoping nobody applies one.

The honesty line is explicit

A tutor teaches the investigation and the student writes it. No data, no drafting, no editing to completion. In a search result where completed Internal Assessments are openly sold at AED 3,750, stating the boundary is a position rather than a formality.

Prices with sources attached

Market AED bands with the publisher and the date, including the figures that make in-home delivery look expensive. Three of the six strongest pages for this query publish no price, and one asks the question in its own FAQ then declines to answer it.

Availability before payment, not after

If no Chemistry specialist is free in your slot, you get a date. The quiet alternative in this market is a generalist charged at the specialist rate, which is the main way UAE families overpay for science support.

Claims we deliberately do not make

No regulator approval, no accreditation, no school partnerships, no guaranteed grades, no self-asserted star ratings and no statistic without its source and date. Everything checkable on this page links to the body that published it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Sobha Hartland: your questions answered

Is there actually an IB Chemistry specialist near Sobha Hartland?+

The honest answer is that the local pool is small. International Baccalaureate students were 7% of Dubai private school enrolment in 2024-25 against 37% for UK curriculum schools, so teachers who have taught Diploma Chemistry are a fraction of those who have taught IGCSE science, and Higher Level narrows it further. Sobha Hartland is a compact masterplan with two schools inside it, so the resident supply is thin and in demand across every age group. Searching by distance ranks candidates by driving time, which has no relationship to whether they know the current course.

How do I tell a Diploma Chemistry teacher from someone who just knows chemistry?+

Ask three things. How is the course structured and what changed for first teaching in 2023? A specialist says structure and reactivity and names the sub-themes. What is the investigation weighting and what will you do with my child's draft? The answer is 20% at both levels, and nothing written, edited to completion or supplied. What is my school's internal deadline for the investigation? A specialist asks for it unprompted, because the school sets it locally and it governs the whole plan. Vague answers to all three mean you are buying chemistry knowledge rather than Diploma preparation.

Does a tutor travel to our home in Sobha Hartland for Chemistry lessons?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; nobody travels to an address in Sobha Hartland, Mohammed Bin Rashid City or elsewhere in the Emirates. Home visiting is a service we run in India only. UAE tuition is one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. The trade is worth seeing clearly: you lose a physical presence in the room and you gain the pick of every available Diploma Chemistry specialist rather than whoever can reach Ras Al Khor on a weekday evening, and the travel premium of roughly AED 30 to AED 150 an hour leaves the invoice.

Why is my child suddenly struggling with organic chemistry?+

Usually because they learned reactions as a list of inputs and outputs. That strategy works for a dozen named examples and collapses the moment a paper asks for a mechanism or presents an unfamiliar substrate. The fix is to teach the small number of recurring behaviours and let specific reactions follow from them, which takes a handful of sessions rather than a term of memorisation. The second common cause is arrow precision: marks require an arrow to start at the right electron source and finish at the right destination, and class marking is often more generous than an examiner.

What does the Chemistry investigation count for and what can a tutor do with it?+

The scientific investigation is 20% of the Chemistry grade at both Standard and Higher Level. A tutor may teach the assessment criteria, challenge whether the research question can be answered with the apparatus your school actually owns, teach uncertainty and error analysis, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not write any part of it, edit it to completion, or supply data. Your child's school supervisor signs the authenticity declaration. The school's internal deadline, not an IB date, drives the timeline and varies between schools serving this area.

Is Chemistry HL much harder than SL, or just longer?+

Both, and the shape of the difference matters for tuition. Higher Level runs roughly 240 teaching hours against about 150 at Standard Level, and the additional material sits inside each sub-theme rather than in a separable module. So a student secure at Standard Level can still be caught by a Higher Level question on the same ground demanding a fuller treatment, particularly in thermodynamics, quantitative equilibrium and electrochemistry. The investigation weighting is identical at 20%. Standard Level support concentrates on secure coverage and answer shape; Higher Level support spends more time on extended quantitative reasoning.

My child came from IGCSE Chemistry Core into the Diploma. Is that a problem?+

It is a known gap rather than a disaster, and it is specific. Cambridge 0620 Extended and Pearson 4CH1 carry the quantitative treatment the Diploma assumes; the Core tier does not. The missing piece is almost always mole calculations carried through multi-step problems, plus confidence rearranging equations. Six to ten targeted sessions in the summer before DP1 closes it. Discovered in an October class test instead, the same remediation happens slowly and expensively across the whole year while new content keeps arriving on top of it.

What should Chemistry tuition cost per month in Dubai?+

Bestimate's 2026 Dubai estimates for a weekly one-hour session are AED 240 to AED 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Published package examples include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions, which is roughly double the money for half the contact hours. Those are market figures read in October 2026, not IB Gram's prices; ours follow a consultation after a free trial.

Can online Chemistry tuition work when the practical work is in a school lab?+

Yes, because the practical work stays in your child's school laboratory where the apparatus and the supervising teacher are. What online tuition handles is everything surrounding it: whether the research question is answerable with the available equipment, how many values of the independent variable are realistic, how to treat repeated measurements, how uncertainties propagate through a calculation, and whether the conclusion is consistent with the error bars. Those are the parts the criteria reward and the parts students most often get wrong, and none of them need the tutor physically present.

How many Chemistry sessions a week does a DP1 student need?+

One, in most cases. A weekly 60 or 90-minute session gives enough contact to follow the school's scheme of work and enough space for the independent practice that actually moves a chemistry grade. Two sessions a week usually means the student has no time left to work alone, which is where the learning happens in a quantitative subject. The exception is a diagnosed content gap with a fixed deadline, where two a week for a few weeks closes it faster and then drops back to one.

Does the UAE Ministry of Education count Chemistry towards equivalency?+

On the British track a student needs five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that five, plus one A Level at no less than E or two AS Levels at the same grade. Chemistry can be one of the five. For the International Baccalaureate no points threshold is published here, because none was found on a Ministry source, and any site quoting one without a moe.gov.ae citation is guessing. Equivalency is run by the Ministry and the emirate authority, not by a tutoring provider.

Do Dubai Chemistry tutors need a permit, and can I check?+

Individuals providing private tuition in the UAE need the MoHRE private tutor work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. u.ae states it is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, so a quoted permit fee is a mistake. You can ask a tutor directly whether they hold it. Separately, a tutoring operation with premises in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, which is a different instrument and the one most commonly misdescribed in marketing copy.

What does a school's KHDA rating tell me about its chemistry teaching?+

Less than parents assume. KHDA inspects Dubai private schools annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak and publishes a report, but judgements aggregate across phases and subject groups. A school rated Outstanding may run Diploma Chemistry with a single teacher covering both levels and no spare capacity, while a school rated Good may have a deep science team. Read the report for what it says about secondary science specifically, then ask the school how many teachers cover DP Chemistry and whether Higher and Standard Level are timetabled separately.

Can one tutor handle Chemistry and Biology for the same student?+

Sometimes, and it is worth probing before agreeing. The two share investigation criteria and uncertainty expectations, so a tutor who genuinely teaches both at Diploma level can save a family real coordination effort. But a tutor who teaches one well and copes with the other will default to the stronger subject, and the weaker one quietly becomes homework supervision. Ask which of the two they have taught at Higher Level and for how long. Two specialists are sometimes the cheaper purchase, particularly when both internal deadlines land in the same half-term.

What happens if no Chemistry specialist is free when we need one?+

You get a date rather than a substitute. Diploma Chemistry, especially at Higher Level, is a narrow specialism and there are evenings when nobody who genuinely covers it is available in a Gulf Standard Time window. We say so and tell you when it changes. The alternative, common in this market and rarely disclosed, is to fill the hour with a general science tutor at the specialist rate. For a Higher Level student that is a worse outcome than waiting a week, so we do not offer it.

Should we try the school's own support before paying for a tutor?+

Yes, and most families skip it. School support sessions are usually free to enrolled students and run by the department that sets the internal assessments and knows the deadlines. Ask what exists for senior science before paying anyone. The second free option is structured independent practice using the school's own past-paper access with a clear weekly plan. If a verification session concludes the problem is workload rather than chemistry, those two work better than paid hours, and we will tell you when that is what we see.

Test the tutor, then decide what to buy

The question behind this search is whether anybody nearby genuinely knows Diploma Chemistry, and the answer in a compact creek-side community is that the local pool is small and a distance filter will not find the right person inside it. So apply a better filter. Ask how the course is structured and what changed in 2023. Ask the investigation weighting and what the tutor will do with a draft. Ask for your school's internal deadline. Then decide how many hours the answers justify. The trial lesson where you ask all three is free, one-to-one and live online in Gulf Standard Time.
