Best IB Online Tutor in the UAE

Parents searching for the best IB online tutor in the UAE are usually asking a price question in disguise: an online IB hour is advertised here between roughly AED 45 and AED 650, and nobody explains what separates the ends of that range. This page sets out the market bands with the sources attached, the four things that genuinely move a rate, and how to measure a tutor in one trial lesson before any money changes hands. Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Market rates published with the provider and the month they were read
  • One-to-one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time
  • Coursework support is feedback on the student's own drafts, never a rewrite
  • A free first lesson, with its conditions stated before you book

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

Price, not reputation, is what parents are really comparing

A search for the best IB online tutor in the UAE almost never comes from a parent who wants a league table. It comes from a parent who has three quotes in a WhatsApp thread - AED 120, AED 260 and AED 450 for the same Higher Level subject - and no way to tell which number is justified. Nobody publishes an IB tutor ranking for this country, and any page that claims to hold one has written it themselves. What can be published is the market: who charges what, on what evidence, and what the difference actually buys.

Here is the range as it stood in October 2026. Budget online tuition advertises from AED 45-65 at EdFlik and from AED 33-52 at Tutopiya. A qualified subject tutor working online sits roughly AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Specialist IB, IGCSE and A-Level work runs AED 200-450 and above, TutorChase quoting AED 270. At the top, BartyED publishes AED 650 for a named premium tutor. Those are other companies' prices, read from their own pages, and they are the honest starting point for any conversation about value.

Four things move a rate inside that range, and only four are worth paying for: the level being taught, the scarcity of the subject at that level, the amount of marking and written feedback included, and the hour of the evening you want. Everything else - a logo, a claimed ranking, a star rating a company awarded itself - is priced and sold but not delivered. One UAE provider publishes an average rating in its page code that does not match the figure a reader sees on the page; that is the kind of detail worth checking before the rate is.

Value also depends on when the money is spent. A Diploma family that buys twelve hours in September of DP1 to fix algebraic fluency usually spends less, in total, than the family that buys thirty hours in March of DP2 to recover the same marks under deadline pressure. Hours bought late are hours spent on triage: past papers rather than understanding. The cheapest tutoring in this market is the tutoring that starts early enough to be ordinary.

One structural point about delivery. Lessons for UAE families are taught one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time. The reason is supply rather than cost: the IB accounted for 7 per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment in 2024-25, across 227 private schools, and a Higher Level Chemistry or Maths Analysis and Approaches specialist is a small subset of a small subset. A screen widens the pool from whoever sits within a twenty-minute drive to whoever actually teaches that syllabus at that level.

What follows is the arithmetic rather than the pitch: rate bands by what is being taught, the premium claims that survive a check, what to measure in a free trial lesson, the two decisions that quietly determine two years of spending, and the one service that no amount of money should buy.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

IB Gram covers three IB programmes for UAE families, plus the Career-related Programme where a school runs it. The cost profile differs in each: primary work is short and diagnostic, Middle Years work is about habits, and the Diploma is where the hours and the money concentrate.

PYPAges 3-12 - Pre-K to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The Primary Years Programme is inquiry-led and has no external examinations, so tutoring here is diagnostic rather than remedial. Most UAE families who book primary support are chasing one of two things: an English reading level that has slipped behind the class, or number fluency that will matter in three years rather than three weeks. Sessions are short - thirty to forty-five minutes holds attention better than a full hour - and the useful output is a written note of what to practise between lessons.

In Dubai, Arabic runs from the first years of primary in every private school whatever the licensed curriculum, which is why a primary parent's first tutoring question here is often about Arabic rather than maths. Market rates for primary support sit at the bottom of the published range, from roughly AED 45 an hour at the budget end.

MYPAges 11-16 - Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

The Middle Years Programme marks against criteria in most subjects, on a scale per criterion rather than a single percentage, and that is where families lose track. A report reading 5, 6, 4, 5 tells you more than a percentage does, but only if somebody reads which criterion is weak. MYP tutoring that works is criterion-targeted: one criterion at a time, with the school's own task sheet on the shared screen in front of both of them.

MYP 4 and 5 are the cheapest years to buy help in the UAE and the most commonly skipped. The jump from MYP 5 into Diploma sciences and Maths Analysis and Approaches is the gap that generates the biggest bills in DP1, and a term of MYP 5 support at the AED 150-250 band published in this market costs a fraction of repairing it later.

DPAges 16-19 - Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

The Diploma is six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Higher Level carries more teaching hours, an additional paper in several subjects, and the Internal Assessment that most students underestimate. This is where specialist rates apply: UAE providers quote AED 200-450 and above for IB Higher Level work, and the premium is paid for scarcity at that level rather than for the brand printed on the invoice.

UAE schools sit the May session, with a November session existing for retakes. Entries are made by the school months before the first paper, so a family that wants a level changed has to raise it before that internal deadline. Ask your child's coordinator for the written internal calendar in the first term of DP1; it costs nothing and it decides when tutoring money is worth spending.

CPAges 16-19 - Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

A smaller number of UAE schools run the Career-related Programme, which pairs Diploma courses with a career-related study and a reflective project. Tutoring demand here is narrow and sits mostly on the DP courses inside the CP, plus academic English for the reflective project. Because the cohort is small, a subject specialist for a CP combination can take longer to match than a mainstream Diploma subject at the same level.

Check which programmes your child's school is authorised to run before assuming a CP route exists in your emirate; the regulator's school listing and the school's own authorisation page are where to look. Fees and curricula at private schools in Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah are approved by the emirate authority, so programme availability is not purely a school decision.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Demand is not evenly spread, and neither is price. The subjects below are the ones UAE families ask for most, each with a note on where the marks actually sit - because that is what decides whether an hour of tuition is worth AED 200 or worth nothing at all.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The most requested Diploma subject in this market and the most expensive to fix late. Higher Level adds Paper 3, a longer problem-solving paper, on top of Papers 1 and 2. Marks go missing in algebraic manipulation carried over from IGCSE, in calculus notation, and in the exploration, which is marked against criteria A to E out of 20.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Chosen by students heading for business, psychology and design, and often chosen late. The statistics and modelling content rewards technology fluency, so a session where the student drives the graphic display calculator beats one where the tutor demonstrates it. Check university prerequisites before switching: several engineering and physics courses expect Analysis and Approaches instead.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms, energetics and the data-based paper are where Higher Level students lose ground. The internal assessment is a single scientific investigation marked out of 24, and the most common failure is a research question too broad to produce controlled data. Confirm the current criteria with your child's teacher before planning sessions around it.

Physics

HL and SL

Fields, circuits and the Higher Level extension topics absorb the most tutoring time, and the arithmetic of uncertainties quietly costs marks across every paper. Online sessions handle this well, because the working happens on a shared screen where a tutor sees each line rather than only the final answer.

Biology

HL and SL

A memory-heavy syllabus where marks are lost to command terms rather than to content: a question that says outline and an answer that explains scores no better than one that says too little. Useful sessions here are short, frequent, and built on the student's own most recent piece of written work.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagrams and the evaluation command terms carry the marks, and the Higher Level paper adds quantitative work that catches students who chose the subject to avoid maths. The internal assessment is a set of commentaries on published news articles, which a tutor may discuss but must not draft.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The individual oral and Paper 1's unseen analysis are the two components where preparation visibly changes a grade. Sessions work best when built around texts the school has actually taught, so ask for the school's reading list before the first lesson rather than after it.

Arabic in the school stream

First language and additional language

Dubai private schools must run Arabic for all students, with separate classes for Arab and non-Arab groups, and the content is set by the Ministry. Support here is about reaching the school's own material rather than replacing it, since schools may not use different or additional content without prior Ministry permission.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Core components

Neither is a subject, both are graded, and together they move the final points total. Support is process coaching: question framing, source evaluation, and reading a draft against the published criteria. The Extended Essay carries a 4,000-word limit and the TOK essay a 1,600-word limit; the text inside both has to be the student's own.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study command terms and the Higher Level extension are where marks move, and students who read the stimulus material too quickly lose application marks they already had the content for. Tutoring is mostly structured practice against the school's own marked work rather than fresh content delivery.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families buy this, each with a different cost shape. All three are delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; the difference is how much you commit to and when, and in every case the first lesson is a free trial with its conditions stated before you book.

Weekly one-to-one by subject

One subject, one specialist, a fixed slot each week. This is the pattern that costs least per mark recovered, because the tutor sees work in progress instead of a backlog. Families usually start with one subject rather than three; a student carrying problems in three subjects at once is often carrying one problem - time, or notation, or reading the question - that surfaces in all three.

  • Same tutor, same slot, 60 or 90 minutes
  • A written note after each session saying what to practise
  • The school's own task sheets and marked work used, not a parallel course
  • Paused rather than cancelled across exam weeks

A costed block before mocks or the May session

A defined number of hours, agreed in advance, aimed at a dated target. Blocks are easier to budget and easier to measure: you can say what the ten or twenty hours were for and whether the mock result moved. Bought in September this is preparation; bought in March it is triage, and the value per hour falls even though the rate does not.

  • Hours agreed before the block starts, with a stated goal
  • A diagnostic first session built on the last real piece of marked work
  • Past-paper work from the school's own board and series
  • A written handover if the block ends and weekly lessons begin

Coursework process coaching

Support for the Internal Assessment, Extended Essay and TOK essay that stays on the right side of the IB's honesty rules: question framing, method, source evaluation, and feedback on the student's own drafts against the published criteria. The student writes every word. A provider offering anything else is selling a diploma for the price of an essay.

  • Feedback on drafts the student has written, in the student's own file
  • Criteria read in full before the first session
  • No supply of text, data or a finished component
  • Session notes a coordinator could read without concern

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

Nobody ranks IB tutors in this country, so compare prices and evidence instead

  • Level and scarcity are the only two rate drivers that reflect who can teach the subject
  • Marking and written feedback are work done outside the lesson and should be priced as such
  • A rate without a session length attached is an incomplete quote
  • A rating a provider awarded itself is marketing, not evidence

An online IB hour in the UAE is advertised between roughly AED 45 and AED 650, reading October 2026 prices off providers' own pages. There is no published ranking of IB tutors in this country, and no regulator issues one. What a parent can compare is price against evidence, and the evidence is narrower than the marketing around it suggests.

Three of the six pages ranking best for these searches publish no price at all. Two quote in US dollars, a currency no UAE family transacts in. One asks how much tutoring costs in its own FAQ and then declines to answer the question. That is the market a parent is comparing inside, and it is why a quote usually arrives without a reason attached to it.

So start from what the rate is made of. The level being taught is the biggest single factor: Higher Level costs more because fewer people can teach it, not because the hour is longer. Scarcity at that level is second - Higher Level Chemistry, Physics and Maths Analysis and Approaches are harder to staff than Standard Level humanities. Third is included work: marking, written feedback and a note of what to practise take a tutor time outside the lesson, and a rate that includes them is not comparable with one that does not. Fourth is the slot, because a 17:00 Gulf Standard Time weekday hour is the one every family wants.

What should not move the price: a self-awarded star rating, a claimed position in a ranking nobody publishes, or a familiar logo. One provider in this market publishes an average rating in its page code that differs from the number printed on the page itself. Ask instead what the tutor has taught, at which level, for which board, and how recently they taught it.

02

What the UAE market charges for an online IB hour, sorted by what is being taught

Online one-to-one IB tuition in the UAE is advertised from about AED 45 an hour at the budget end, and at AED 200-450 and above for Higher Level specialist work, with one provider publishing AED 650 for a named premium tutor. Those figures are other companies' published prices, read in October 2026. IB Gram's own position is a free first lesson and then a quote for the specific subject, level and slot.

The useful way to read the table below is by component rather than by provider. A Standard Level humanities hour and a Higher Level Maths Analysis and Approaches hour are not the same product, and the market prices them differently even where a single company advertises one rate for both. Where a provider quotes one number for everything, that number is set by their cheapest tutor's cost and their most expensive tutor's margin.

Monthly packages are the other way this is sold here. An online package of eight sessions has been advertised at AED 799 a month; in-home packages of four two-hour visits at AED 1,599-1,799. Bestimate's 2026 rate work puts a weekly one-hour habit at AED 240-600 a month at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Set that beside a Dubai school fee: KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private-school fees in the emirate would not rise for 2026-27 under the second economic incentives package, so for one year at least the tutoring line is the part of an education budget that can still move.

Two cautions about reading any of these numbers. First, ask whether VAT sits inside the quoted figure, and ask for a tax registration number if one is claimed; this page takes no position on the VAT treatment of tuition fees, which is a question for the Federal Tax Authority. Second, treat a rate quoted without a session length as incomplete, because AED 300 for ninety minutes and AED 300 for sixty minutes are different prices wearing the same number.

Three claims that carry a premium, and which of them a parent can check

Four claims add money to an IB tutoring quote in this market: examiner status, a famous university on the tutor's degree, experience at your child's own school, and a regulator's name used as though it were an endorsement. Only two of the four can be checked by a parent before paying, and one of them should end the conversation.

Examiner status is the most common premium and the hardest to verify. Awarding bodies do not publish examiner lists, and status changes session by session. Marking experience is genuinely useful, because somebody who has applied a mark scheme at volume reads a question differently - but it carries no access to grade boundaries, unreleased papers or anybody's marks, and a provider implying otherwise is describing something that does not exist. Ask when the person last marked, for which board and which component, then accept that the answer is unverifiable and weigh it accordingly.

A degree from a well-known university is verifiable and weakly predictive. It tells you the person can do the subject; it says nothing about whether they can teach a sixteen-year-old the difference between outline and explain. Experience of your child's specific school is more useful than either, because internal deadlines and coursework calendars differ by campus. If the person is currently employed at that school, though, think carefully: press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules describes Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff being barred from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct in the same spirit.

The fourth claim is the one to walk away from. No individual tutor holds approval from KHDA. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is issued to training institutes with premises, through an initial-approval process with a six-month completion window and an annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. A page applying a regulator's name to individual tutors is either confused or counting on a parent not knowing the difference. IB Gram holds no regulator or awarding-body accreditation and claims none; what it can show you is which subjects and levels each tutor teaches.

The free trial lesson is the only measurement you get before you pay

A trial lesson is a diagnostic, not a sales call, and it is the one hour where the parent holds all the leverage. Sixty minutes is enough to see whether a tutor can find the actual problem, and the actual problem is usually not the topic the student named when asked.

Send one real artefact before it starts: the last piece of marked work, with the teacher's comments still on it. Not a syllabus, not a report card - a marked paper. A tutor who reads it beforehand and opens by asking about question 6 is doing the job. A tutor who opens by describing their own qualifications is selling, and you can hear the difference from the next room.

What to listen for is who is talking. In a good online hour the student talks for more than half of it, and the shared screen shows the student's working rather than the tutor's notes. The hour should close with two or three specific things to practise, written down, and a sentence about what the next session will do. If the summary is that they revised functions, there is nothing to measure against next week and no way to tell a good tenth hour from a wasted one.

Then check the conditions attached to the word free, before booking rather than after. Trial length, whether a card is required, whether the trial tutor is the tutor who continues, and what happens if you stop there. With IB Gram the first lesson is free, those conditions are stated before you book, and stopping afterwards costs nothing. Note the honest limit of a trial, too: it tests teaching and diagnosis. It cannot tell you whether that person will still have 17:00 on Tuesdays free in March, which is a scheduling question worth asking in the same conversation.

Maths AA or AI: one choice that decides two years of tutoring spend

Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation are not easy and hard versions of one subject. They are different subjects with different content, and the choice a student makes in the spring of Year 11 sets how many tutoring hours the next two years will absorb and what those hours will be spent on.

Analysis and Approaches is algebra-heavy and proof-facing, and at Higher Level it carries Paper 3, a longer problem-solving paper that rewards students who can work on unfamiliar ground. Applications and Interpretation is modelling, statistics and technology-facing, and the graphic display calculator is central rather than incidental to it. A student who enjoyed IGCSE algebra and found statistics a chore is usually in the wrong course if they pick Applications, and the reverse is just as true and just as expensive.

University prerequisites are the part families discover late. Engineering, physics, mathematics and several economics courses commonly expect Analysis and Approaches, often at Higher Level, while many business, psychology, design and life-science routes accept either. The published entry requirements of the specific universities on your child's list are the only authority worth using here, and reading them costs nothing. Check them before the choice closes, not after the first DP1 report arrives.

The spending difference is real and measurable. Switching from Applications to Analysis at Higher Level after the first term of DP1 means covering algebraic and calculus content the class has already moved past, which in this market is usually bought as a block of ten to twenty hours on top of weekly lessons. Making the choice correctly costs one conversation with the school's maths coordinator, in Year 11, before the option forms go in.

06

The move into DP1 is where the bill concentrates

Most of what UAE families spend on Diploma tutoring is spent repairing a transition. A student arrives in DP1 from MYP 5, from IGCSE, from CBSE Class 10 or from an American Grade 10, and the gap between what the previous system assessed and what the Diploma assumes is where the first bad report comes from.

The gaps are predictable enough to plan for. IGCSE Extended maths leaves a student fluent in procedures but light on proof and on functions notation, which Analysis and Approaches assumes from the first week. MYP 5 sciences assess criteria rather than content coverage, so a student can hold a strong MYP grade and still meet Diploma content they have never seen. CBSE Class 10 is content-rich and examination-focused, and the shift is towards extended writing and independent investigation. An American Grade 10 transcript often conceals which maths track the student was actually on, which matters directly for the AA or AI decision.

Dubai's school market makes this more common than it sounds. The emirate recorded 387,441 private-school students across 227 schools and 17 curricula in 2024-25, with the IB at 7 per cent of enrolment, and seven more private schools arrive for 2026-27 - four UK curriculum and three IB - adding 16,846 places after six opened during 2025-26. Families move between curricula inside one city, and a Diploma intake absorbs students from all of them in the same September.

The cheap version of this repair is a summer or first-term block aimed at the specific gap, priced at the market's mid band. The expensive version is a year of weekly lessons that never names the gap and spends every hour on this week's homework instead, which is the single most common way tutoring money disappears in this market.

A visiting tutor against live online, priced for a UAE family

Families who search for a home tutor are asking a sensible question, so here is the honest answer. The UAE market for a tutor in the room is advertised at roughly AED 180-500 an hour, Bestimate putting the band at AED 180-350 and independent home tutors quoting AED 200-500. Monthly in-home packages of four two-hour visits have been advertised at AED 1,599-1,799. IB Gram does not send a tutor to a UAE address: tuition for UAE families is delivered one-to-one over live video, and home visits are a service offered only in India.

The cost difference is not mainly the rate - it is the travel inside the rate. A visiting tutor crossing Dubai at 17:00 is paid for one hour and gives up two, which is why minimum session lengths of two hours are common here and why evening slots are scarce. For a family in Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah or Umm Al Quwain the travel line is larger again, and the number of IB Higher Level specialists willing to make that trip twice a week is close to none.

The argument for a screen is supply rather than saving. A family in Al Reem or Al Zahia choosing online is choosing from the people who teach their child's syllabus at their child's level, rather than from the people who live within a twenty-minute drive of the villa. Higher Level Chemistry, Physics and Analysis and Approaches are exactly where that distinction stops being theoretical and starts deciding whether a specialist exists for you at all.

What is lost is real and worth naming. A tutor in the room can read a page over a shoulder and can read a teenager's body language better. Shared-screen working closes most of the first gap, because the student's working appears line by line rather than arriving as a finished answer. The second gap is a reason to hold the same tutor and the same slot for the term rather than rotating between people.

The one thing more money must never buy

The clearest line in this market is also the cheapest to cross by accident. Internal Assessments, the Extended Essay, the TOK essay and the Personal Project are assessed as the student's own work. A tutor may teach, question, model with different examples, read a draft and give feedback against the published criteria. A tutor may not supply the text, the data or the analysis, at any rate, in any format, however the help is described on an invoice.

This is not a cautious reading of the rules. One provider ranking for these searches advertises finished Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. A student who submits that work faces an academic-misconduct process and a diploma can be withheld. The money is not the real risk in that transaction; the two years are.

In practice the boundary is easy to hold if the artefacts stay in the student's hands. The student's file, the student's data, the student's words, in every session. Feedback is phrased as questions and criteria references rather than as replacement sentences. Supervisors ask students to account for the help they received, and a session note a coordinator could read without concern is the simple test of whether the help was the right kind.

Published limits are part of the same discipline, because a tutor who knows them stops a student wasting weeks. The Extended Essay carries a 4,000-word limit. The TOK essay carries a 1,600-word limit and is marked out of 10 against published criteria. The Maths exploration is marked against criteria A to E out of 20. The science investigation is marked out of 24. Confirm each against the current subject guide with your child's coordinator; guides change, and a tutor quoting the previous cycle's structure is a reason to ask when they last taught the course.

Who the UAE permits to teach privately, and why the cheapest quote is sometimes the unpermitted one

  • Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 created the private tuition work permit
  • The permit is free and valid for two years; MoHRE lists a two-working-day turnaround
  • University students and school students aged 15 to 18 are expressly eligible
  • A training institute with premises needs a KHDA permit; an individual tutor does not hold one

Private tutoring in the UAE runs on a permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's own service page - Issuance of a New Work Permit, Private Tutor Licensing - lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system.

Because the permit costs nothing, a tutor without one is not saving you money; they are saving themselves two days of paperwork. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so no amount appears here, and a page that quotes one has invented it. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed residents, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students - which is why a confident quote from a nineteen-year-old undergraduate can be entirely lawful and sometimes good value.

A permit for an individual and a licence for a business are separate objects, and conflating them is the most common misrepresentation in this market. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute: initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram holds no such permit and states no UAE premises, because it operates over live video rather than from a building.

There is one offer worth declining on principle. Press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules describes Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff as barred from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct runs the same way. The arrangement that looks cheapest and most convenient - your child's own subject teacher, paid privately - is the one that can put a teacher's position and a family's school relationship at risk. Verify the current rules against ADEK's own policy document before relying on any press summary, this one included.

Two UAE costs that never appear on a tutoring quote

Two obligations sit outside the IB and outside every tutoring price list, and both cost UAE families time, and sometimes money, late in the programme. The first is the mandatory ministry subjects. The second is Ministry of Education equivalency.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's requirements were to be implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Schools must run separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies; combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, with KHDA advising that any mandatory-subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes. Teachers of Arabic and Islamic Education need the appropriate KHDA approval to teach them. Support here has a hard boundary: using different or additional content without prior Ministry permission is prohibited, so a tutor works with the school's own material or not at all.

Equivalency is the paperwork that turns a school-leaving certificate into something a UAE university or employer recognises. On the British track the Ministry requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one accredited A-Level at no less than E or two AS-Levels at the same grade. One ranking competitor publishes six subjects; the sourced number is five. On the American track, English proficiency is shown by a 5 in IELTS academic, 61 in TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, with at least 450 in SAT Math.

For the IB Diploma this page publishes no points threshold, because none has been read on the Ministry's own site. Anyone quoting one should be asked where it came from. Open the file in the final year rather than after results, check the requirements on moe.gov.ae or with the attestation authority in your emirate, and treat tutoring as unrelated to the process: no amount of tuition is required for equivalency, and no provider performs it on your behalf.

Where we tutor

What the market looks like in each emirate

Rates and supply are not the same across the country. The notes below are about cost and availability rather than scenery: which authority sits above your child's school, how deep the local tutor market is, and what that does to the options a family in that emirate actually has.

Dubai

KHDA oversees private education here, with 227 private schools teaching 17 curricula and 387,441 students enrolled in 2024-25, the IB taking 7 per cent of that enrolment. Deepest tutor supply in the country, so the widest spread of quotes: budget online from about AED 45, specialist Higher Level work from AED 200 upwards.

Abu Dhabi

ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. Press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules describes a bar on school staff taking paid tutoring work with students enrolled at their own school, so the cheapest-looking option - your child's own teacher, privately - is often the one to decline.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Families here frequently drive into Dubai for tuition centres; an online slot removes the drive and the fuel from the weekly cost without changing the teaching.

Al Ain

Also ADEK territory. Fewer IB campuses than the island, which shows up as longer match times for Higher Level sciences rather than as a higher hourly rate. For some subject combinations here, delivery over video is what makes a specialist available at all.

Ajman

Private schools fall under the federal Ministry of Education. Many families commute into Sharjah or Dubai for school, which pushes a realistic session start to 17:30 or later on weekdays and makes a 16:00 slot the one that quietly gets cancelled.

Ras Al Khaimah

The Department of Knowledge regulates private education and, like Sharjah's authority, approves fees, curricula, programmes and assessment methods. Visiting-tutor quotes here carry real travel cost, which is one reason the published in-home band runs as high as AED 500 an hour.

Fujairah

Ministry of Education territory on the east coast, with the smallest IB cohort in the country. A Higher Level specialist who happens to live nearby is close to a coincidence; a video link makes the question irrelevant rather than answering it.

Umm Al Quwain

Also under the Ministry of Education. The practical constraint here is the evening window after a school run into Sharjah or Dubai, not price. Sessions booked for 19:00 survive a full term better than ones booked for 16:30.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai campuses whose families most often ask about Higher Level supply

Diploma cohorts at these KHDA-inspected campuses are large enough that a Higher Level subject usually runs, but small enough that one subject can rest on one teacher. When a family asks whether tuition is worth a specialist rate, the honest answer often depends on how many students sit that Higher Level class and how recently the teacher taught it.

Abu Dhabi campuses inside ADEK's remit

Students we support in the capital attend campuses like these. The pattern differs from Dubai's: fewer providers quoting, more families asking for a single Higher Level subject rather than a package, and far more questions about who is permitted to give private lessons at all.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the subject, the level and the slot

One message with the subject, whether it is Higher or Standard Level, the board where that matters, and the two evening windows that work on Gulf Standard Time. That is enough to say whether a specialist is free. It is also enough to give you a rate for your case rather than a range off a price page.

  2. 02

Send one piece of marked work

The last marked paper or assignment, with the teacher's comments still on it. This is the single most useful thing a parent can send, and it does more than a report card: it shows where marks actually went, which is what a first session should be built on rather than a general chat about confidence.

  3. 03

Take the free first lesson and measure it

The trial is one hour with the tutor who would continue. Use the table above: who talks, what is on the shared screen, and whether the hour ends with specific things to practise. Stopping afterwards costs nothing, and no card is needed to book it in the first place.

  4. 04

Agree the shape before the second lesson

Weekly slot, a costed block, or coursework coaching. Agree the hours, the goal and the slot in writing, and agree what will be reviewed after four sessions. Four sessions is a fair point at which to judge a match; one is not, and twelve is an expensive way to find out.

  5. 05

If nobody is free, hear that instead of a substitute

Where no specialist covers the subject, level and slot, we say so and give an honest wait rather than matching a generalist at a specialist rate. A waiting list with a date on it beats a mismatch you end up paying for twice, once in fees and once in redone work.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Prices with their sources attached

Every AED figure on this page is somebody's published rate, named with the provider and the month it was read. The market range for an online hour runs AED 45 to AED 650 and pretending otherwise helps nobody. Our own number comes after the free lesson, for your subject, level and slot.

One subject, one specialist, one slot

Matching is by subject and level, not by postcode. A Higher Level Physics request produces a Higher Level Physics teacher or an honest wait, because an hour with somebody teaching outside their level is the most expensive hour available in this market.

Coursework help a coordinator could read

Feedback on the student's own drafts against the published criteria, with session notes that would survive being shown to the school. The alternative is openly sold in this market, and it risks a diploma rather than only a fee.

No accreditation we do not hold

IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform. It claims no accreditation from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, holds no UAE premises, and names schools only as context. What we will show you is what each tutor teaches, and at which level.

Scheduling built for the UAE week

Slots are set on Gulf Standard Time around the school run and the commute, with sessions moving to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan and pausing rather than cancelling across exam weeks and the heaviest coursework fortnights.

Something written after every session

Each lesson ends with two or three specific things to practise, written down. It is how a parent paying AED 200 or more an hour can tell whether the hour worked, without sitting in the room or taking anybody's word for it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

Is an AED 400 online hour better value than an AED 200 one for the same subject?+

Not automatically, and the question is answerable. At AED 200 you are usually buying teaching time only. At AED 400 you should be buying a scarcer level - Higher Level maths or sciences - plus marking and written feedback between lessons. Ask what the higher rate includes that the lower one does not, in writing. If the answer is seniority or a claimed ranking, the premium is for marketing. If it is Paper 3 work, marked past papers from your child's own board and a note of what to practise, the difference is a product difference. Market bands for specialist Higher Level work in the UAE run AED 200-450 and above, so both quotes can be legitimate.

How do I compare three tutoring quotes that all sound equally confident?+

Put them in the same units first. Ask each for the rate per 60 minutes, whether marking and feedback sit inside it, whether VAT is included, the minimum commitment, and who actually teaches - the person quoting, or somebody assigned later. Then ask all three the same subject question: which component of this subject do students at my child's school find hardest, and why. A specialist answers with papers and criteria; a salesperson answers with adjectives. Finally ask what happens if the match fails after two lessons. The provider whose answers are specific and whose conditions are written down is the one to trial, whatever the rate.

Does examiner experience justify the premium some UAE providers charge for it?+

Sometimes, and it is worth less than it is sold for. Marking experience changes how somebody reads a question and a mark scheme, which genuinely helps a student. It carries no access to grade boundaries, unreleased papers or your child's marks, and anyone implying that it does is describing something that does not exist. Awarding bodies do not publish examiner lists, so the claim cannot be verified by a parent at all. Ask which board, which component and which session, then weigh the answer against what you can check: subjects taught, levels taught, and how recently. One provider here publishes AED 650 an hour for a named premium tutor.

Can a provider say the regulator has approved its individual tutors?+

No. KHDA issues an Educational Services Permit to training institutes with premises - initial approval, a maximum of six months to finish the permit and licence steps, and renewal at least thirty days before expiry. It is not a credential for an individual tutor, and the regulator does not vet tutors one by one. A page using a regulator's name that way is either confused or relying on a parent not checking. What an individual tutor should hold is the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is free and valid for two years. IB Gram holds no regulator accreditation and does not claim any.

Is a university student at the bottom of the rate range reasonable for Standard Level?+

Often, yes. University students are expressly eligible for the MoHRE private tuition work permit, and for Standard Level consolidation, homework habits or MYP work a capable undergraduate at the AED 45-150 end of the published market range can be good value. Where it stops working is Higher Level, coursework and anything close to an exam. Somebody who sat the Diploma three years ago knows the content but not the mark scheme, and Higher Level Chemistry or Analysis and Approaches Paper 3 is where that shows. A reasonable split many families use: cheaper support for breadth, specialist hours for the subjects that decide the points total.

What should a free trial lesson tell me that a brochure cannot?+

Whether the tutor can find the real problem. Send the last marked piece of work beforehand, then listen for three things: whether they refer to it, who does most of the talking, and what is on the shared screen. The student's own working should be, not a slide deck. The hour should close with two or three specific things to practise and a sentence about the next session. Ask the conditions before booking - length, whether a card is needed, whether the trial tutor continues. With IB Gram the first lesson is free, those conditions are stated up front, and stopping afterwards costs nothing.

Why is coursework support priced as a block rather than by the hour?+

Because the work is not evenly spread. An internal assessment or an Extended Essay needs an intense start - scoping the question, reading the criteria, checking the method is viable - then quiet weeks while the student writes, then a feedback session on a draft. Billing that by the hour encourages meetings for their own sake. A block with a stated number of sessions set against the school's own deadlines costs less and fits the actual shape of the task. What the block must never include is text, data or analysis supplied by the tutor; the words and the results have to be the student's own.

What does an AED 799 monthly online package usually include in this market?+

That figure is a package advertised locally at eight sessions a month, which works out near AED 100 per session - budget-tier pricing. Read what sits inside it before comparing it with an hourly rate: session length, whether marking is included, whether the same tutor teaches every session, and what happens to unused sessions at month end. In-home monthly packages in the UAE have been advertised at AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour visits, with travel inside the price. Bestimate's 2026 estimates for a weekly one-hour habit run AED 240-600 a month at the budget end and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support.

Should my child take Maths AA or AI if the plan is engineering abroad?+

Check the published entry requirements of the specific universities on the list, because that is the only authority that matters here. Engineering, physics and mathematics courses commonly expect Analysis and Approaches, frequently at Higher Level, while business, psychology, design and several life-science routes accept either. Make the choice before the course starts: switching from Applications to Analysis at Higher Level after the first term of DP1 means covering algebra and calculus the class has already passed, which families here usually buy as ten to twenty extra hours. One conversation with the school's maths coordinator in Year 11 is the cheap version of this decision.

How many hours does the jump from IGCSE maths into Analysis and Approaches usually take?+

Families in this market typically buy a summer or first-term block of eight to fifteen hours, and the content is predictable: functions notation, algebraic fluency at speed, and the proof habits IGCSE Extended never required. The point of doing it early is price per mark. The same gap addressed in DP2, under deadline pressure and alongside the exploration, absorbs far more hours and returns less, because sessions turn into triage on past papers. If a first DP1 report shows an unexpected drop in maths, treat it as this gap until a diagnostic session says otherwise.

At what point should we stop paying a tutor who is not working out?+

Four sessions is a fair test; one is not. By the fourth there should be a named problem, evidence it is narrowing, and something written at the end of each session that the student can practise alone. If the sessions still consist of this week's homework being finished with help, the arrangement is a homework club at a specialist rate. Say so, and ask for a different tutor rather than a different approach - a mismatch of level or teaching style rarely resolves with more hours. Agreeing a four-session review before the second lesson makes that conversation ordinary instead of awkward.

Do Arabic and Islamic Education lessons add to what we already spend on IB tuition?+

They can, and families rarely budget for them. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools whatever the licensed curriculum, with separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students and instructional time calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit. If a mark in one of them is weak, support has a hard limit: schools may not use different or additional content without prior Ministry permission, so a tutor works with the school's own material rather than a parallel course. Ask the school for that material first - it costs nothing, and it decides whether paid hours would help at all.

Can a tutor help with the Ministry of Education equivalency file?+

Only by explaining it. Equivalency is the Ministry's process, and no provider performs it, speeds it up or guarantees an outcome. What is sourced: the British track requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that five, plus one A-Level at no less than E or two AS-Levels. The American track asks for IELTS 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or 450 in SAT reading and writing, and at least 450 in SAT Math. For the IB Diploma no points figure appears here, because none has been read on the Ministry's own site. Check moe.gov.ae or your emirate's attestation authority.

Why is this delivered over live video rather than at a UAE address?+

Because of who is available, not what it costs. Tuition for UAE families is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and home visits are a service offered only in India. Dubai recorded 227 private schools and 387,441 private-school students in 2024-25, with the IB at 7 per cent of enrolment, so a Higher Level Chemistry or Analysis and Approaches specialist is a narrow pool inside that. Matching by syllabus and level rather than by driving distance is what makes the right teacher reachable from Al Ain, Fujairah or Umm Al Quwain. Shared-screen working also keeps the student's line-by-line working visible, which is where diagnosis happens.

Can we be put on a waiting list rather than matched with a generalist?+

Yes, and for Higher Level subjects that is often the better answer. Where no specialist covers the subject, level and slot, we say so and give a date rather than filling the gap with somebody teaching outside their level. An hour with the wrong tutor is the most expensive hour in this market: it is paid for once, then paid for again when the work has to be redone. Where a wait is unworkable - six weeks to the first paper, for instance - we will say what is available and what it cannot cover, so the decision stays yours with the limitation stated plainly.

Does the hourly rate change as the May session gets closer?+

Availability changes more than the rate does. The scarce thing in February and March is a Higher Level specialist with an evening slot free, not a willingness to quote. Bestimate's 2026 figures put specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000-2,000 or more a month, and that is the band families reach when they start late and buy intensively. Booking the same total hours from September costs the same per hour and returns more per hour, because sessions can build understanding rather than triage past papers. If you are starting late, say so plainly: the plan for six weeks out is a different plan, not a compressed version of the same one.

Every page below covers a different question the UAE families ask about IB and IGCSE support, with its own syllabus detail, costs and tutor availability.

Flag of the UAE

Start with the free lesson, then decide what the hour is worth

The honest version of this page is short. There is no published ranking of IB tutors in the UAE, the market advertises an online hour anywhere between AED 45 and AED 650, and the only measurement a parent gets before paying is a trial lesson. So use it. Send the last marked piece of work, name the subject and level, pick two evening windows on Gulf Standard Time, and watch one hour for who talks, what is on the screen, and whether the lesson ends with something specific to practise. Lessons are one-to-one over live video. The first one is free, its conditions are stated before you book, and if no specialist is free for your child's subject we will tell you that instead of selling you a substitute.
