IB Home Tutor in Sobha Hartland

When a parent types IB home tutor in Sobha Hartland into Google, the question underneath is not about travel. It is whether anyone within reach actually knows the Diploma syllabus their child is sitting. This page answers that directly: how thin IB-specific teaching really is in Dubai, what the home-visit market charges for it, and how IB Gram handles it instead, with one-to-one lessons over live video on Gulf Standard Time, matched to the subject and level rather than to the postcode.

  • Matched on the Diploma subject and level, never on driving distance
  • Home-visit market rates in AED published, with each source named
  • Coverage limits disclosed before you book, not after
  • Written feedback on the student's own IA; never written for them

IB & IGCSE in Sobha Hartland

The honest answer to "is there anyone near me who knows this syllabus?"

Mostly, no. That is the answer, and the rest of this page explains why it is the right answer rather than a discouraging one. Sobha Hartland has two well-regarded schools inside it and more within a short drive, so it is not a community short of education. It is short of something narrower: people who can teach a specific IB Diploma subject at a specific level to examination standard and who are available at six in the evening on a Tuesday.

Start with the arithmetic. Dubai's private sector served 387,441 students across 227 schools in 2024-25, offering seventeen different curricula. KHDA's published enrolment shares for that year put the UK curriculum largest, Indian second and American third, with the International Baccalaureate at 7 per cent of students. Seven per cent of a very large market is still a lot of children, but it is a minority, and the teachers who serve it are employed by the schools that run the programme. They are not distributed evenly across Dubai's communities. They live near their schools, and they are already teaching all day.

Now narrow it further, because the Diploma is not one subject. A student takes six subjects at Higher or Standard Level plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. A parent in Sobha Hartland does not need an IB tutor. They need, say, a Chemistry Higher Level tutor, or someone who can supervise an Economics internal assessment, or a Maths Analysis and Approaches tutor who can handle Paper 3. Each of those is a different person, and the number of each living within a twenty-minute drive of Hartland is very small. Not zero, but small enough that availability, not quality, becomes the thing that decides who teaches your child.

This is where the home-visit model breaks down, and it breaks down quietly. A family searching locally gets matched not to the person who knows the syllabus best but to the person who knows it well enough and will make the drive. Those are different standards and nobody says so out loud. The market rate reflects the compromise too: in-home one-to-one in Dubai runs roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour because the figure includes travel, which means a Hartland family can pay specialist money for a generalist who happens to be nearby.

IB Gram does not solve this by sending someone better to your door. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. What we do instead is remove geography from the decision. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and the tutor is chosen because they teach your child's subject at your child's level. A Hartland student taking Chemistry Higher Level gets a Chemistry Higher Level teacher rather than whoever was both competent and close. The rest of this page gives you the costs, the comparison, the subject-by-subject coverage picture and the six things to test in a first lesson.

At a glance

  • IB families are roughly 7% of Dubai's private-school population, and IB teachers cluster near IB schools
  • The Diploma is six subjects plus three core components; each needs a different specialist
  • Market in-home rates run roughly AED 180-500 an hour, travel included in the figure
  • Lessons here are one-to-one and online; no IB Gram home visits anywhere in the UAE
  • Coverage gaps are disclosed before booking, with the alternative stated
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Sobha Hartland families sit across the IB continuum and the British curriculum, sometimes within the same household. These three programme contexts change what a first lesson needs to contain, and each one has a different supply problem behind it.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Each subject carries its own internal assessment, and those deadlines land in clusters rather than spread evenly. This is the programme where subject-specific tutoring matters most, because a Higher Level Physics paper and a Standard Level Economics paper have nothing in common except the student sitting them.

Diploma provision near Sobha Hartland is good by Dubai standards and the subject combinations available still vary school by school. What does not vary is the supply picture for tutors: the teachers delivering those courses work full days at the schools that employ them, so the pool available for evening one-to-one work in this community is thin and subject-specific.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Assessed against four criteria per subject rather than through examinations, with the Personal Project in the final year. MYP tutoring is a different job from Diploma tutoring: the work is about meeting criteria descriptors, structuring investigations and writing reflectively. A tutor who knows Diploma Chemistry may not know how MYP Sciences criterion descriptors are applied, and the reverse is also true.

Several central-corridor schools run MYP and then offer both the Diploma and A Levels at sixteen, so Hartland parents face a real choice. The MYP-to-Diploma transition is where most of our early enquiries from this community start, and the gap is usually examination technique rather than subject knowledge.

PYPAges 3-11 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led, with transdisciplinary units rather than separate subjects and an exhibition in the final year. Tutoring at this stage is mostly about securing literacy and number fluency so that the inquiry work has something to stand on. It is also the stage where parents most often over-buy, because a seven-year-old rarely needs weekly one-to-one support across a year.

Hartland and the surrounding communities have substantial primary provision, and the honest advice for most PYP families is that a short block addressing a specific gap, such as number bonds or reading fluency, does more than an open-ended arrangement. We will say that rather than sell the arrangement.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The Diploma's structure is why this page talks about supply rather than about quality. Each subject below is a separate specialism with its own mark scheme and its own internal assessment. These are the ones we cover for Sobha Hartland families, with a note on where marks are genuinely lost in each.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Paper 1 is sat without a calculator, which exposes algebraic fluency immediately, and Higher Level adds a third paper with its own style of extended problem. Marks go missing in proof, in calculus where multiple rules combine, and in trigonometric manipulation under time pressure.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling and statistics led, with calculator competence examinable rather than assumed. Students who moved here to reduce workload often find the content different rather than lighter, and lose marks interpreting output they can generate but cannot explain.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Two written papers and an independent scientific investigation worth a fifth of the grade. Equilibrium reasoning, organic mechanism detail and significant figures in the data-based section are the reliable mark-losers at both levels.

Physics

HL and SL

Rewards algebraic confidence and precise definitions in roughly equal measure. Uncertainty treatment in practical work is the area students are least taught and most penalised for, and it transfers directly into the data questions.

Biology

HL and SL

Terminology precision carries more weight than calculation. Students who write fluently but imprecisely plateau around a 5, and the fix is command-term discipline rather than more content revision.

Economics

HL and SL

The internal assessment is a set of commentaries on published news articles, which collides with other subjects' deadlines in DP1. Diagram accuracy and evaluation depth are where Higher Level students separate from Standard Level ones.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Carries the Individual Oral and, at Higher Level, the essay. Students lose marks by describing texts rather than analysing how meaning is constructed, which is a habit that responds quickly to targeted work.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tools are straightforward and the analysis marks are not. A student who applies a framework without evaluating it will sit in the middle bands indefinitely, and that is the single most common pattern we see in this subject.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

The exhibition and the essay are assessed against published instruments that most students never read. Our support is structural: reading the prescribed title properly, building an argument, and locating where marks are actually awarded.

Extended Essay

Core

Four thousand words of independent research with a supervisor at school. Tutoring here is process coaching: narrowing a question, planning the research, and giving feedback on the student's own drafts rather than contributing text.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all delivered one-to-one online. The choice depends on whether the problem is a subject, a piece of coursework or a looming session, and the free trial lesson is where that gets established rather than assumed from an enquiry form.

Weekly subject tuition

One session a week in one named subject at one named level, with the same tutor throughout. This is the format that moves a grade over two terms, because it leaves the student time to practise and gives the tutor a chance to see whether the practice happened. The tutor works slightly ahead of the school's scheme of work rather than behind it, so lessons prepare rather than repair.

  • One subject, one level, one tutor, same slot each week
  • Named practice after each session, marked before the next
  • Written note to parents saying what is moving and what is not
  • Slot set after the school run, typically 4pm to 8pm Gulf Standard Time

Internal assessment and core coaching

A short block around an internal assessment, the Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge. The tutor explains the assessment criteria, questions the research question until it is workable, and gives written feedback on drafts the student has written. The student chooses the question, does the work and writes the text. We state that boundary to the student directly in the first session.

  • Research question narrowed before time is wasted on the wrong one
  • Criteria explained in the language the examiner uses
  • Written feedback on the student's own draft, never rewriting
  • Timed to the school's internal deadline rather than to ours

Pre-session intensive

Two or three sessions a week for six to ten weeks before the examination session, built from the student's own mock paper rather than from a generic revision plan. Topic order follows where marks were actually lost, and some topics are deliberately set aside, which is the honest use of a short window rather than a failure of ambition.

  • First session spent marking the mock question by question
  • Whole papers under timed conditions, including calculator papers
  • Command-term drill so answers match what the question asked for
  • Fixed end date; the block does not renew by default

What an IB home tutor costs in this part of Dubai, and what the travel buys

Since the search is for a home tutor, the home-tutor market deserves a straight answer rather than a redirection. In Dubai, in-home one-to-one tuition runs roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour, with the figure including travel. Monthly in-home packages are advertised around AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits. Online equivalents sit lower: qualified subject tutors around AED 150 to 300 an hour, with specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above, and advertised packages around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. All of those are other providers' published figures, read in October 2026, and they are market context rather than IB Gram's price list.

The useful question is not which number is bigger but what the difference pays for. It pays for a car journey, a person in the room, and the convenience of not having to set up a video call. Those are real things and for a younger child, particularly at PYP age, the person in the room can matter. What the premium does not pay for is subject knowledge. There is no mechanism by which driving to Sobha Hartland makes someone better at Physics Higher Level.

Worse, the premium often buys less subject knowledge rather than more, because it narrows the field to those within driving distance. At AED 350 an hour a Hartland family could be paying specialist rates for a tutor whose actual specialism is a different subject, and the only reason they are in the room is proximity. That is the compromise the home-visit model makes quietly, and the table below puts the two options side by side so you can see which column the money is actually buying.

Online against a home visit, compared on the things that decide a grade

A fair comparison needs to be about more than price, so here are the five variables that actually determine whether tutoring works: who is teaching, how much of the paid hour is teaching, when the session can start, what happens between sessions, and what happens when the schedule changes. Taken one at a time, four of the five favour online delivery from a Sobha Hartland address and one is genuinely mixed.

On who is teaching, online wins outright, and this page has already made the argument: the pool is the whole market rather than the drivable subset. On paid-hour efficiency, online wins because no part of the arrangement absorbs a commute, and a tutor who has driven through the corridor at 4pm arrives with less patience than they left with. On start time, online wins because the session can begin as soon as the student is home rather than when the tutor arrives.

On work between sessions, it is a draw in principle and online tends to win in practice, because written feedback and marked practice are easier to deliver and to keep than verbal comments in a living room. On scheduling, online wins comfortably: Ramadan timings, travel, examination weeks and school trips can all be absorbed without renegotiating a journey. The genuinely mixed variable is presence. Some students, especially younger ones, work better with a person beside them, and no amount of argument changes that. For a Diploma student working on paper technique it rarely decides anything. To be unambiguous: IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE, so the choice is between our online delivery and an in-home arrangement you would make locally.

Subject by subject: where the supply is thin and what we do about it

Nobody else in this market publishes a coverage picture, which is strange, because it is the thing a parent is actually asking about when they ask whether anyone nearby knows the syllabus. So here it is, honestly. Some Diploma subjects are well covered in Dubai and some are not, and the pattern follows how many schools teach them rather than how difficult they are.

Mathematics and the sciences are comparatively well covered, because every school teaches them and the teaching population is large. English and Economics are reasonably covered. The thin areas are the ones a parent only discovers when they need them: Higher Level Paper 3 work in mathematics, individual sciences at Higher Level in combination with internal assessment supervision, second languages beyond the commonly taught ones, and the smaller group three and group six subjects. Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay supervision are thin everywhere, because almost nobody teaches them as a subject.

What we do when a subject is thin is tell you, before you book, and offer the real alternative rather than a nearby substitute. Usually that means a different time slot, occasionally a short wait, and sometimes a tutor based outside the UAE who teaches the same syllabus and works to Gulf Standard Time. What we do not do is put a Biology graduate in front of a Chemistry Higher Level student because the diary was tidier that way. The table sets out the picture as it stands, and it is a picture that changes, so treat it as a conversation starter rather than a guarantee.

04

What "knows the syllabus" actually means, and six ways to test it in one lesson

  • Can they state the paper structure and weightings from memory?
  • Do they treat command terms as instructions with different mark expectations?
  • Do they name the internal assessment criteria and what each rewards?
  • Did they ask for the student's own marked work before teaching anything?
  • Can they describe what the mark scheme gives credit for, not just the right answer?
  • Can they say what they will not do with assessed coursework?

The phrase every tutoring site uses is syllabus knowledge, and it is almost never defined. For a Diploma subject it has a specific meaning, and a parent can test for all of it in a single trial lesson without understanding the subject themselves. The tests below are the ones we would apply to our own tutors, and we would rather you ran them than took a claim on trust.

A tutor who knows the syllabus knows the assessment structure in numbers: which papers exist, how long they are, what percentage each carries, and what the internal assessment is worth. They know the command terms and treat them as instructions rather than as synonyms. They know which topics recur and which are examined lightly. They know what the internal assessment criteria are called and roughly what each is worth. They know what a mark scheme rewards, which is why they talk about method rather than about answers.

And they know where this particular student is losing marks, which they can only know by looking at the student's own work. That last point is the real test. A tutor who spends the trial lesson explaining the subject in general terms is performing competence. A tutor who asks for a marked paper, reads it, and names the pattern is demonstrating it. Ask afterwards what is costing your child marks and judge the answer on its specificity, not its warmth. A warm tutor who cannot name the pattern will be pleasant company for a year and leave the grade where it was.

05

The Diploma year counted backwards from the May session

UAE IB schools sit the May examination session, and planning backwards from it is more useful than planning forwards from today, because the deadlines that actually constrain a student are set by the school rather than by the IB. Families routinely assume the opposite and are then surprised when an internal assessment deadline arrives months before anything the IB publishes.

Two cautions before using the table. We do not publish specific IB examination or results dates on these pages. The IB holds those, and your child's Diploma coordinator holds the school's internal versions, which govern the internal assessments, the Extended Essay drafts and the Theory of Knowledge submissions. Confirm every date with the coordinator rather than with a tutoring website, this one included. And treat an internal deadline as firm from the moment it is announced, because schools do pull them forward.

Read practically, the calendar identifies two sensible entry points for tutoring and one bad one. The first good point is early in DP1, when subject foundations are cheap to repair and internal assessment questions have not yet been chosen badly. The second is immediately after the DP2 mock, when there is marked evidence to work from and eight to twelve weeks of usable time. The bad point is the fortnight before an internal assessment deadline, when the only honest help available is process advice and the student has already lost the time that mattered. A tutor who takes that booking without saying so is taking your money for a problem that can no longer be solved.

KHDA, the Hartland schools and the mandatory UAE subjects nobody mentions

Dubai's private schools are overseen by KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, described on u.ae as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Inspection runs annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak, published school by school. For a Hartland parent the secondary commentary inside a report is worth more than the headline band, because a strong department can sit inside an averagely rated school and the reverse is also true.

The sector is growing, which eventually eases the supply problem this page describes. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places; six new schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%. More IB schools means more IB teachers in the city, which is the only thing that genuinely widens the pool for evening tutoring. KHDA also confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees for 2026-27, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total.

Something families new to Dubai often miss: the mandatory UAE subjects run alongside the Diploma rather than instead of it. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with requirements to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. It requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, stating that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit. For a Diploma student that is real timetable pressure in an already full year.

On credentials, plainly: IB Gram is not KHDA approved, ADEK approved or IB accredited, and does not claim to be. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai. KHDA separately requires that teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic in schools hold appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects, which is a credential question for a school rather than for a tutoring service. Any service advertising KHDA-approved tutors is describing something else or saying something untrue.

07

The internal assessment, the Extended Essay, and the line a tutor must not cross

Every Diploma subject carries an internal assessment, and together with the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay that is a large share of the final result sitting in work the student must produce themselves. It is also where tutoring most often goes wrong. At least one operator ranking for UAE IB queries sells completed Internal Assessments outright, at a published price. That is not a service tier. It is academic misconduct under IB rules, and the student bears the consequence, which can be the loss of the Diploma.

What a tutor may do is substantial and worth paying for. They may explain the assessment criteria in the language the examiner uses. They may question a research question until it is narrow enough to answer with the resources available. They may point out that a planned method will produce too little data, or that a chosen text will not sustain four thousand words. They may teach the underlying subject content. They may read a draft the student has written and say where the reasoning is thin, where the evaluation is missing, and where a conclusion outruns the evidence.

What a tutor may not do is choose the question, supply the method or the data, write any part of the text, or edit a draft into its final form. Nor may they hand over a worked example so close to the student's own task that copying becomes the obvious next step. We state these boundaries to the student in the first session, because a sixteen-year-old under deadline pressure deserves to know where the line is before they are standing on it. We also do not reproduce or distribute IB syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables; we reference them and link to the official source.

08

Getting started from Sobha Hartland, and what we say when nobody is free

Begin with the subject and the level rather than with the word IB. Tell us which subject, whether it is Higher or Standard, the mock grade, and what the teacher's last report said. Add what time the school day ends, because in this corridor that varies by school and it sets the window a session can occupy. Those four pieces of information change who we propose; the word IB on its own does not.

We then propose a tutor and run a free trial lesson, which is a diagnosis rather than a sales call. Run the six tests from earlier in this page on whoever takes it. The tutor should finish able to tell you specifically what is costing marks, and you should finish knowing whether your child will work with this person weekly without resistance. If not, say so and we propose someone else. A match a teenager merely tolerates does not survive to the second term.

And the honest part. Diploma teaching capacity is limited and some subjects, as the coverage table shows, are limited in ways that will affect your booking. When the right tutor is not free at your preferred time, we say so and offer a different slot, a short wait, or a tutor outside the UAE teaching the same syllabus to Gulf Standard Time. We will not substitute a related subject or a related level and let you discover it in week three. If none of the alternatives suits, you have lost nothing but an email, because the trial lesson is free and comes first.

Where we tutor

Sobha Hartland and the communities it shares schools with

Hartland sits in a dense band of central communities, and the supply argument in this page holds across all of them. Each note below says something about the local IB picture rather than about the architecture.

Sobha Hartland

Towers and villas around two well-known schools, with a high concentration of Diploma families relative to its size. Local demand for IB tutoring here outstrips the local supply of IB teachers by a wide margin.

Meydan

Immediately west, sharing several schools with Hartland. The tutoring picture is the same, and families often discover they are competing for the same handful of evening slots with the same tutors.

Nad Al Sheba

Established IB provision a short drive south. One of the few nearby communities where IB teachers actually live in any number, because the schools that employ them are here.

Business Bay

Mostly towers with a transient population and frequent mid-year arrivals. Students joining a Diploma cohort in DP1 or DP2 are common here, and they need subject-specific catch-up rather than general support.

Downtown Dubai

Short drives to several schools and the easiest access to tuition centres. Group provision is reachable, which is useful for a shared topic gap and unhelpful for a Diploma internal assessment.

Al Jaddaf

Close to an IB continuum school and to the creek crossings. Sessions can start soon after the school day ends here, which is the one genuine local advantage in this part of the corridor.

Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Large plots and longer internal drives than the map suggests, which pushes in-home quotes towards the top of the market band for no academic gain.

Al Quoz

Mixed use, with schools and the corridor's tuition centres. Worth knowing as the cheapest group-class option nearby, and as a reminder that cheap and suitable are different tests.

School ecosystem

Sobha Hartland, Meydan and Nad Al Sheba

The schools closest to Hartland include IB Diploma provision and British-curriculum routes within minutes of each other. That mix is exactly why a tutor cannot be matched from an address: two students on the same floor of the same tower may be sitting entirely different qualifications.

Al Jaddaf, Downtown, Al Quoz and Al Barsha

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the subject and the level, not the programme

Chemistry Higher Level and Chemistry Standard Level are different jobs, and Theory of Knowledge is a third. Send the subject, the level, the mock grade and the teacher's last comment. That is what determines who we propose; the word IB on its own narrows nothing.

  2. 02

We match on the subject, not the drive

Because lessons are online, the shortlist is drawn from every available specialist in that subject rather than from those willing to drive to Hartland at 4pm. We tell you who the tutor is and why they fit this gap before any lesson is booked.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson, then the six tests

The first session costs nothing and its job is to find the problem. Ask afterwards what specifically is costing marks, whether they asked for the student's own work, and what they will refuse to do with coursework. If the answers are vague, do not book the block.

  4. 04

Set a slot that survives the school run

School days in this corridor end between roughly 2:45pm and 3:30pm, and the drive from Al Barsha or Al Quoz eats the afternoon. We fix a time that works in term and revisit it for Ramadan, mock weeks and travel rather than assuming it holds for a year.

  5. 05

    Practice set, practice marked

Each session ends with named past-paper work and the next begins with it marked against the published criteria. Unmarked practice is the commonest reason a weekly arrangement changes nothing, and checking that it happens needs no subject knowledge from you.

Review against the calendar and stop when done

Every few weeks the plan is checked against the Diploma year: internal assessment deadlines, mocks, the final block. Intensity rises for a defined period before the session and falls afterwards, and when a gap is closed we say so rather than renewing by default.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The supply problem stated, not hidden

We tell you that IB teaching in Dubai is concentrated near IB schools and that it is subject-specific. Every other page in this market implies a local specialist is waiting. Knowing the real constraint is what lets you make a sensible decision.

Coverage published subject by subject

Our coverage table says which Diploma areas are well served, which are thin, and what the fallback is when nobody local is free. No competitor in this market discloses a coverage limit, and several conceal non-UAE delivery behind a local-looking number.

AED figures with named sources

The home-visit and online bands on this page carry the provider that published each one and the month we read it. They are market context, not our price list, which follows a free trial lesson and an honest count of the sessions needed.

Six tests you can run yourself

Rather than asking you to trust a claim about syllabus knowledge, we give you the questions that test it in one lesson. Apply them to us as well as to anyone else you are considering.

The coursework line stated to the student

Internal assessments, the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay must be the student's own work. We say what we will and will not do in the first session, to the student, not in small print at the bottom of a page.

No borrowed credentials

We explain what KHDA does and link to its own material. We do not describe IB Gram or any tutor as KHDA approved, ADEK approved or IB accredited, because none of that is true of us and the phrase is the most common untruth in this market.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Sobha Hartland: your questions answered

Are there any IB tutors who actually live in Sobha Hartland?+

A few, and not in the subjects most families need. IB teachers in Dubai live near the schools that employ them, and the Diploma is not one subject but six plus three core components, so the realistic question is whether a Chemistry Higher Level or Theory of Knowledge specialist lives within a short drive. Usually not. Rather than matching your child to whoever is both competent and close, we match on the subject and level and deliver the lesson one-to-one over live video. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE.

Do your tutors travel to homes in Sobha Hartland?+

No. IB Gram delivers one-to-one tuition over live video throughout the UAE, and home visits are a service we offer only in India. We are explicit about it because the phrase home tutor is what parents search and it would be easy to leave the impression ambiguous. If a person in the room is non-negotiable for your child, a local in-home arrangement is the right choice and this page gives you the market rates to judge it by. For a Diploma student working on paper technique, online delivery usually produces the better-matched tutor.

What does a home tutor cost in this part of Dubai?+

In-home one-to-one in Dubai runs roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour, and the figure includes travel. Advertised monthly in-home packages sit around AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits. Online equivalents are lower: about AED 150 to 300 an hour for a qualified subject tutor, AED 200 to 450 and above for a specialist, and around AED 799 a month for an eight-session package. Those are other providers' published figures read in October 2026, each attributed in the table on this page, and they are market context rather than our prices.

How do I tell whether a tutor really knows my child's Diploma subject?+

Test six things in the trial lesson. Can they state the paper structure and weightings from memory? Do they treat command terms as instructions with different mark expectations? Can they name the internal assessment criteria and what each rewards? Did they ask for your child's own marked work before teaching anything? Can they describe what the mark scheme credits rather than just the right answer? And can they say what they will refuse to do with assessed coursework? A tutor who passes all six is demonstrating knowledge rather than claiming it.

Which Diploma subjects are hardest to find a tutor for in the UAE?+

Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay supervision are thin everywhere, because almost nobody teaches them as a standalone subject. Higher Level mathematics including Paper 3 is thinner than Standard Level. Individual sciences at Higher Level combined with internal assessment supervision are harder than the same subject without it. Second languages beyond the commonly taught ones are genuinely scarce. Mathematics at Standard Level, the main sciences, English A and Economics are comparatively well covered. We publish this picture before you book rather than discovering it together afterwards.

What happens if no specialist is available in my child's subject?+

We tell you, which is not the market norm. The options are a different time slot, a short wait while we look, or a tutor based outside the UAE who teaches the same syllabus and works to Gulf Standard Time. What we will not do is substitute a related subject or a different level and let you discover it in week three. If none of the alternatives suits, nothing has been lost, because the trial lesson is free and comes before any commitment. Several competitors in this market conceal non-UAE delivery entirely, which is the practice we are reacting to.

Is online tuition genuinely as effective for a Diploma student?+

For paper technique, internal assessment feedback and subject teaching, yes, and often better, because the tutor is chosen for the subject rather than for the journey. Written feedback and marked practice are easier to deliver and to keep than verbal comments in a living room. The honest exception is presence: some students, particularly younger ones, work better with someone beside them, and that is a real preference rather than a misconception. For a sixteen-year-old working on a Higher Level paper it rarely decides the outcome, and the wider tutor pool usually does.

How many subjects can we get tutoring in at once?+

As many as genuinely need it, but rarely as many as a worried parent first asks for. A Diploma student already has six subjects, three core components and school homework, so adding three weekly tutoring sessions can make the week worse rather than better. In most cases one or two subjects carry the problem and the rest are collateral: a maths weakness showing up in Physics, or a writing weakness showing up in two essay subjects. We would rather fix the underlying one and review in a month.

Can a tutor help with my child's internal assessment without breaking the rules?+

Yes, within boundaries we state to the student in the first session. A tutor may explain the criteria, question a research question until it is answerable, warn that a method will generate too little data, teach the underlying content, and give written feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not choose the question, supply the method or data, write any of the text, or edit a draft into its final form. Submitting work that is not the student's own is misconduct under IB rules and the consequence falls on the student.

When do IB students in Dubai sit their exams?+

UAE IB schools overwhelmingly sit the May session, which suits an academic year starting in late August or early September. A November session exists for parts of the world where the year runs the other way round. We do not publish specific IB examination or results dates on these pages, because the IB holds those and we will not have a parent act on a date taken from a tutoring site. Your child's Diploma coordinator has the school's version of the calendar, including the internal assessment deadlines that constrain the year most.

Do private tutors in Dubai need a permit, and can I check?+

Yes, and asking is reasonable. MoHRE issues a private tuition work permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years, with eligible applicants including registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Applications go through MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service. Those tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, although no fine schedule is published, so treat any specific figure you see quoted as unverified.

Can my child's own school teacher tutor them privately instead?+

It is usually the wrong arrangement and in Abu Dhabi it is prohibited. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff bar teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. Treat the detail as press-reported and verify against current policy before relying on it. Beyond the rules, a second opinion from outside the school is often more useful than more of the same explanation.

Do the mandatory Arabic and Islamic Education lessons affect a Diploma timetable?+

They do, and families new to Dubai are often surprised. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with requirements to be implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Separate classes are required for Arabs and non-Arabs in several of these subjects, and instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit. For a Diploma student the practical effect is fewer free periods than the programme assumes, which is worth factoring into any tutoring schedule.

Can sessions move during Ramadan or while we are travelling?+

Yes, and this is one of the clearer practical advantages of online delivery. During Ramadan sessions commonly shift to a post-Iftar slot, which is simple when there is no journey to renegotiate. When a family travels, the lesson follows the student rather than the address, so two weeks away does not cost two weeks of a subject. Agree in advance which time zone the session is pinned to, so a student abroad is not sitting a Higher Level lesson at six in the morning, and tell us early enough that the slot can be held.

My child is in DP1 and coping. Is tutoring premature?+

Often it is, and we will say so. The exception worth considering is the subject where a Higher Level choice was made on enthusiasm rather than on prior attainment, because that gap widens through DP1 and is cheapest to close early. The other exception is the internal assessment question, where one session spent narrowing a research question prevents a term of work on something unanswerable. Beyond those, a coping DP1 student usually needs time rather than tuition, and buying weekly sessions in September that nobody has diagnosed is how families overspend.

What should I send you to get a useful recommendation?+

Four things, and a photograph of a marked paper beats all of them. The subject and whether it is Higher or Standard Level. The most recent grade, with whether it came from a mock or classwork. The teacher's last written comment, quoted rather than summarised. And the time the school day ends, because that sets which slots are realistic from Sobha Hartland. With those, we can usually propose a tutor the same day and tell you honestly whether the subject is one of the thinly covered ones.

Ask for the subject specialist, not the nearest tutor

The search that brought you here asks about distance. The thing that changes your child's grade is whether the person teaching them knows the Diploma subject at the level they are sitting it. In Sobha Hartland those two requirements rarely point at the same person, and we would rather tell you that than imply otherwise. Send the subject, the level, the latest grade and the teacher's last comment, and we will propose a tutor and run the first session free. Then run the six tests on them, and on us.
