Best IB Tuition in the UAE

No authority in the Emirates ranks tuition providers, so the phrase best IB tuition in the UAE has to be turned into something a parent can actually check. Four emirate authorities and one federal ministry sit above your child's school. The IB publishes the criteria the work is marked against, letter by letter, with a mark total beside each one. The Ministry of Education sets what the final certificate must show. Point an hour of teaching at those documents and the judgement stops being a matter of taste. IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

There is no official ranking, so here is what can actually be checked

Nobody publishes a league table of IB tuition in the Emirates. KHDA inspects schools in Dubai, the Department of Education and Knowledge licenses them in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, the Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates them in Sharjah, and the federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Not one of those bodies rates a tutor, a tuition company or an hour of teaching. A provider calling itself the strongest option in the market is describing an opinion, and there is no register anywhere that would confirm or contradict it.

What the system does publish is a great deal, and almost none of it appears on the pages currently ranking for this search. Your child's school has an inspection report under the authority that licensed it. The IB publishes an assessment criterion list for every subject, with letters and a mark allocation beside each one. It publishes a word or page limit for every written component. Cambridge and Pearson publish entry deadlines months before the papers. The Ministry of Education publishes what a certificate must show before a UAE university will accept it. Those are the documents a judgement can rest on.

So this page treats the word best as a question about fit rather than rank. The fit question has three parts. Does the tutor know the criteria your child's work is marked against, by letter and by mark? Does the plan respect the deadlines the school and the board have already set? And is the arrangement lawful here, which in the Emirates means a private tuition work permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 for an individual, and a separate permit entirely for a business with premises and staff.

The market itself makes this harder than it should be. Dubai had 227 private schools and 387,441 private-school pupils in 2024-25, offering seventeen different curricula, and the International Baccalaureate accounted for 7% of that roll against 37% on UK curricula. Most tutors in this market trained on GCSE and A-Level. Seven more private schools open in Dubai for 2026-27, three of them International Baccalaureate, adding 16,846 places. Demand for Higher Level teaching is growing faster than the pool of people who have taught it.

IB Gram delivers tuition for UAE families as one-to-one online teaching over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. Home visits are a service we run in India only, and nothing on this page should be read as an offer to attend a UAE address. The trade is deliberate: instead of whoever lives within a tolerable drive of your community, a family in Al Barsha or Khalifa City or Al Nuaimiya is matched to the person who has taught that subject at that level. The first lesson carries no charge, no card details are taken, and nothing obliges you to continue.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The IB runs four programmes, and UAE schools offer them in different combinations depending on which authority licensed the school and what the local demand supports. The regulatory position differs by programme, because the mandatory UAE subjects sit alongside all of them.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The PYP is inquiry-led and has no external examinations, which means there is nothing for a tutor to revise towards. Support at this stage is about the mechanics underneath the inquiry: number fluency, reading stamina, writing at length in English, and the habit of recording what was tried before it is forgotten. The exhibition at the end of the programme is the first piece of sustained independent work most children produce.

In Dubai, Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies run beside the PYP from the start, with Arab and non-Arab pupils taught in separate classes under KHDA's mandatory-subject guidelines. Parents arriving mid-year often find their child placed into an Arabic stream before anyone has explained which stream it is, and that placement follows the child upward.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

The MYP marks against four criteria per subject, each out of eight, and reports an achievement level rather than a percentage. Parents who expect a mark out of a hundred often cannot tell whether a 5 is comfortable or a warning. The Personal Project in the final year carries a report of 1,500 to 3,500 words and is the first assessment where the process journal matters as much as the outcome.

MYP schools in the Emirates feed into two very different destinations. Some pupils continue into the Diploma at the same school; others move to an IGCSE school for Years 10 and 11, because a UK-curriculum place is easier to find here than an IB one. That decision is usually made in Year 8 or 9, and it changes which subjects need attention first.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

The Diploma is six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and Creativity, Activity, Service. Each subject carries an internal assessment marked by the teacher against published criteria and moderated by the IB. The core adds up to three bonus points. Most of the teaching load, and nearly all of the panic, sits in the Higher Level subjects and the coursework deadlines.

A UAE Diploma student is carrying the Ministry's mandatory subjects at the same time as the internal assessments, and the two sets of deadlines are set by different people. The school's coordinator fixes internal dates months before the IB's own upload windows. Families who only discover this in the second year lose the cheapest weeks of the whole programme.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The Career-related Programme pairs at least two Diploma courses with a career-related study, a reflective project, a personal and professional skills course, service learning and a language development component. It is offered by a small number of schools in the Emirates and suits a student who wants Diploma-standard subjects without the full six-subject load. The reflective project is assessed against its own criteria and carries a word limit.

Because few UAE schools run the Career-related Programme, a CP student's subject combination is often unique in their year group, and the school may have one teacher covering a course for two or three pupils. Outside support here is less about remediation and more about the student not being the only person in the building reading the subject guide.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Subject descriptions below name the criterion letters and the limits that decide the marks, because that is the level at which a tutoring hour either helps or does not. Each subject is taught at Higher and Standard Level unless the subject guide says otherwise.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The exploration is marked out of 20 across five criteria: presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. Use of mathematics carries 6 of the 20, and at Higher Level it asks for sophistication, not volume. Students lose marks for unexplained notation and for a topic too large to finish inside twelve to twenty pages.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Same five criteria, same 20 marks, a different mathematical register. Applications rewards modelling with real data and a technology-supported argument, which makes the choice of dataset the single biggest decision in the exploration. The route also matters for admissions: some engineering and economics programmes expect Analysis and Approaches, so the choice should be checked against named course pages before Year 12.

Chemistry

HL and SL

The scientific investigation is marked out of 24 across research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, six marks each, and carries 20% of the subject grade at both levels. Reports fail on evaluation rather than on chemistry: a sound method with no serious discussion of limitations caps the mark. Organic mechanisms and energetics are where paper marks go missing.

Physics

HL and SL

Same four criteria and the same 24 marks as the other sciences, with a 3,000-word limit on the report. Physics students tend to design a competent experiment and then under-analyse it, losing data analysis marks on uncertainty propagation and graph choices. Higher Level adds depth in fields, induction and quantum physics, where the mathematics becomes the limiting factor rather than the concept.

Biology

HL and SL

The investigation uses the same research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation criteria out of 24. Biology candidates most often lose research design marks for an unquantified variable list and conclusion marks for claiming more than the data supports. Statistical treatment, rather than extra experimental repeats, is usually the cheapest improvement available in the final fortnight.

Economics

HL and SL

The portfolio is three commentaries, each capped at 800 words, each built on a news article the student selects. The limit is the whole difficulty: a diagram, an explanation and an evaluation inside 800 words leaves no room for background. Higher Level adds a policy paper that rewards quantitative handling, and the terminology criterion punishes loose use of elasticity and welfare language.

Business Management

HL and SL

The research project runs to 1,800 words and is assessed against criteria that reward a genuine research question and the selection of tools, not the number of tools used. Students who apply six frameworks superficially score below those who apply two properly. Supporting documents have their own rules, and exceeding them is the most common avoidable loss in the component.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Higher Level adds an essay of 1,200 to 1,500 words on a studied work, and both levels sit the Individual Oral on a global issue with an extract from a literary and a non-literary text. Marks are lost on the global issue being stated rather than argued, and on the extract being described instead of analysed within the fifteen minutes.

History

HL and SL

The historical investigation is 2,200 words and marked out of 25, with the investigation section carrying 15 of those marks and the source evaluation 6. Students routinely spend their word count on narrative and arrive at the reflection with nothing left. The reflection is only 4 marks but it is the section most often written in the last hour.

Computer Science

HL and SL

The solution is a developed product with documentation, assessed on planning, design, development, functionality and evaluation. The marks sit in the documented reasoning, not in the code volume, and the client or adviser requirement is a real constraint rather than a formality. Higher Level adds abstract data structures and resource management, which are the usual paper weak points.

Arabic A and Arabic B

HL, SL and ab initio

Arabic appears twice in a UAE student's week: as an IB language subject and as the Ministry's mandatory subject for school. The two are assessed by different people against different expectations. For the IB course, the productive skills carry the risk, because written Arabic at Higher Level demands register control that conversational fluency does not supply.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of buying teaching, separated by what they are pointed at rather than by price. All three run one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, and all three can shift to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan.

Weekly subject teaching

One or two sessions a week against the school's own scheme of work, so the hour lands on the topic being taught rather than on whatever the tutor prefers. This is the arrangement that moves a Standard Level grade over a term and keeps a Higher Level subject from accumulating gaps that only surface in a mock paper.

  • Session notes name the syllabus topic, not just the subject
  • Scheduled around the school run and, in Sharjah and Ajman, the commute
  • Pauses available during the exam block itself

Criterion clinics for coursework

Short, focused sessions on a draft the student has already produced, read against the published criterion letters for that component. The tutor identifies which criterion is costing marks and what the student must do about it. The student makes every change themselves, and the school's academic-honesty declaration remains accurate.

  • Feedback mapped to criterion letters and their mark allocations
  • Word and page limits checked against the subject guide
  • No text is supplied, drafted or rewritten for the student

Exam-term intensives

A block of sessions counted backwards from the first paper, built around past-paper technique and the specific question types the student has been avoiding. Papers are worked under timed conditions and then marked against the published mark scheme the school holds, so the student sees where a four-mark answer became a two-mark answer.

  • Planned from the board's published entry and exam dates
  • Timed papers, then line-by-line review of the lost marks
  • Two or three sessions a week in the final six weeks

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What a search for the best IB tuition in the UAE is really asking

  • No UAE authority rates tutors or tuition companies
  • Subject guides, school calendars and board deadlines are all public
  • Fit is a three-part test: criteria, calendar, lawfulness
  • A price with no source and no date is not a data point

The search is asking a comparison question that no public record in the Emirates can answer. There is no official rating of tutors, no register of tuition quality, and no body that compares one provider with another. KHDA, the Department of Education and Knowledge, the Sharjah Private Education Authority, the Ras Al Khaimah Department of Knowledge and the federal Ministry of Education all regulate schools. MoHRE issues a permit to individuals who give private lessons. None of those five authorities, and not the IB itself, produces anything resembling a ranking of tuition providers.

That leaves a parent with two options. One is to believe whichever site says it the loudest, which is why three of the six competitor pages measured for this market publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars. The other is to replace the ranking question with a fit question, and the fit question is answerable, because the documents that define fit are all published. The subject guide states the criteria and the marks. The school states its internal deadlines. The board states the entry deadline. MoHRE states who may lawfully tutor.

The rest of this page works through those documents in order, because that is the order in which they bite. A tuition hour that does not know which criterion is losing marks is an hour of general encouragement. An hour that arrives after the coordinator's internal deadline cannot change the mark at all. And an arrangement that nobody in the household has checked for lawfulness is a problem waiting for a different kind of attention. Fit is specific, checkable and far more useful than a superlative.

02

What each authority publishes, and the question it cannot answer

Five bodies regulate private schools across the seven emirates, and each publishes something a parent can use. KHDA oversees the quality of private education in Dubai. The Department of Education and Knowledge supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain included. The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in Sharjah and the Ras Al Khaimah Department of Knowledge does the same there, both of them approving tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. The Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.

The pattern worth noticing is what each one stops short of. A school rating tells you how the school was judged across a long list of indicators. It does not tell you whether your child's Higher Level Chemistry teacher is explaining energetics well, because inspection reports are written about schools, not about individual teachers and certainly not about outside tutors. A MoHRE permit tells you that an individual is permitted to give private lessons. It is a permission, not a grade, and nothing about it speaks to teaching quality.

This matters because the most dangerous phrase available to a tuition website in this country is a claim of regulator approval. A permit issued to a training institute with premises is a specific object with a specific scope. An individual's tuition permit is a different object. Neither is an endorsement of anybody's teaching, and IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or partnership from any of these bodies. What the table below does is match each authority to the question it can answer and name the question it cannot, so the gap is visible rather than filled with marketing.

Dubai is adding IB places faster than it is adding IB teachers

The supply side of this market explains more about tutoring prices than any claim about quality does. Dubai's private school sector held 387,441 pupils across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering seventeen different curricula. UK curricula took 37% of that roll, Indian curricula 26%, US curricula 14%, and the International Baccalaureate 7%. The IB is the smallest of the four large blocks, which means the number of teachers in this city who have actually taught a Diploma Higher Level course is a fraction of the number who have taught GCSE or A-Level.

The direction of travel makes it tighter. Seven new private schools open in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, four on UK curricula and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places; six new schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%. Three new IB schools will be recruiting experienced Diploma teachers from the same pool that families are trying to hire from in the evenings. KHDA also confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not increase for 2026-27, under Dubai's second economic incentives package.

Two consequences follow for a family choosing tuition. The first is that scarcity, not quality, sets the price of a Higher Level specialist, and a provider quoting the same rate for Standard Level Business Management and Higher Level Physics is not pricing the market honestly. The second is that the booking window matters more than the rate. A family looking for Higher Level Chemistry in September has options; the same family looking in February is choosing from whoever is left. With the school fee line frozen for a year, the tuition line is where a household budget actually moves.

The criteria your child is marked against, letter by letter

Here is the test that separates a subject specialist from a confident generalist, and it takes one question. Ask what the criteria are for the component your child is working on, by letter, and how many marks each one carries. A teacher who has taken a cohort through that component answers without pausing. Not one of the competitor pages researched for this market names a single criterion letter. That is a remarkable gap, because the criterion list is the document the mark is produced from.

The numbers are concrete. A Diploma mathematics exploration is marked out of 20 across five criteria, with use of mathematics worth 6 of them. The sciences investigation is marked out of 24 across four criteria of six marks each and carries 20% of the subject grade at both Standard and Higher Level. The Extended Essay is marked out of 34, and critical thinking alone carries 12 of those marks. A History investigation is out of 25, with 15 in the investigation section. These allocations tell you where an hour of help is worth buying.

They also tell you where it is wasted. A student polishing presentation on an exploration is working on a 4-mark criterion while use of mathematics, worth 6, goes unaddressed. A candidate adding a third body paragraph to an Extended Essay is adding knowledge and understanding, worth 6, when the 12 marks live in critical thinking. Verify the exact criteria against the subject guide for the cohort your child sits, because the guides are revised and the Diploma coordinator holds the version that counts. The pattern below is stable enough to plan around.

05

Word and page limits, component by component

Every written component in the Diploma carries a published limit, and a limit is a planning instrument rather than a formality. A 4,000-word Extended Essay and a 1,600-word Theory of Knowledge essay need different drafting behaviour entirely: the first fails on scope, the second fails on anything that is not argument. An 800-word Economics commentary leaves room for one diagram, one explanation and one evaluation. No competitor page researched for this market publishes these limits as a reference set, which is odd, because they are the first thing a student needs when planning.

The practical use is backwards planning. Count the limit, divide it by the sections the criteria require, and the student can see immediately whether the plan on the table is possible. A History investigation of 2,200 words with 15 marks in the investigation section cannot afford 900 words of context. A sciences report capped at 3,000 words with six marks each for conclusion and evaluation cannot afford a method section that reads like a recipe. These are arithmetic problems before they are writing problems.

Treat the figures below as the stable pattern and the subject guide as the authority. Limits are revised between cohorts, and the guide your child's year group sits is the one that governs. Ask the Diploma coordinator for the current version rather than trusting a number from a website, including this one. A tutor who checks the limit with you at the start of a coursework block is doing the single most useful thing available in that first session.

What an internal assessment mark is worth once the paper marks land

  • The sciences investigation is 20% of the subject grade at both levels
  • Grade boundaries are set per session and published to schools, not in advance
  • Coursework cannot be improved after the school's internal deadline
  • The useful question is which component leaks the most marks per hour

Parents often ask what a coursework mark converts to, and the honest answer is that it converts to a contribution, not to a grade. In a Diploma science, the investigation carries 20% of the subject grade at both levels. The remaining 80% comes from the papers. Those components are weighted, added into a scaled total, and the total is then placed against grade boundaries that the IB sets for that session and publishes to schools. The boundaries move between sessions, because they are set against the demand of the papers actually sat.

Three things follow. A strong investigation cannot carry weak papers, because it is one-fifth of the subject. A weak investigation is expensive in a different way: it caps the ceiling before the student enters the examination hall, and it cannot be improved after the school's internal deadline. And a mark that looks comfortable in isolation may sit just below a boundary once scaled, which is why the useful question is never what the investigation scored but how many scaled marks separate the student from the next grade.

Nobody outside the examination system can tell you where a boundary will fall, and any tutor who offers a number is guessing. What a good tutor can do is work from the published weightings: identify which component is leaking the most marks per hour of study, and spend the hours there. For a Higher Level student sitting three papers plus an investigation, that is a calculation, and it usually points somewhere less comfortable than the topic the student most enjoys revising.

07

Two permissions, two different objects, and why the difference matters

Private tuition in the Emirates is a permitted activity with paperwork, not an informal arrangement. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and the eligible categories are wide: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through its app, website and e-services system. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so no amount can be quoted.

A tuition business with premises and staff is a different legal animal. In Dubai that requires an Educational Services Permit for a training institute: initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. The two documents are frequently conflated in marketing copy, and the conflation always runs in the same direction, with a business permission presented as a quality endorsement of individual teaching. It is not one. IB Gram holds no such permit and makes no claim to one.

There is one more rule worth knowing before accepting an offer. Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from giving paid private tuition to pupils enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. That is press-reported and worth verifying against the current policy document, but it means the most convenient offer a parent receives, from the teacher who already knows the child, may be the one to decline.

The part of the timetable where the Ministry writes the content

  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies run alongside every licensed curriculum in Dubai
  • Arab and non-Arab pupils are taught in separate classes for these subjects
  • Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit
  • Different or additional content requires prior Ministry permission
  • Outside help works on the school's material, not a substitute syllabus

A UAE Diploma student is not studying six IB subjects. They are studying six IB subjects plus the subjects the country requires. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. At federal level, private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, while adhering to the Ministry's general regulations. These hours are already booked in your child's week.

The organisation of them is prescribed in detail. Schools must run separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language. Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and it is advised that any mandatory-subject lesson runs at least twenty-five minutes.

The rule that changes what tuition can do here is the content rule: for the mandatory UAE subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry is strictly prohibited. Schools are also required to ensure that teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects. So outside support in this part of the timetable is not a parallel syllabus. It is help with the language, the reading and the examination technique, worked on the material the school has been given, and a tutor who offers their own Arabic curriculum has misunderstood the rule.

09

Equivalency is where a confident website gets the number wrong

  • British track as reported: five GCSE or IGCSE passes at no less than E or grade 3
  • Arabic and Islamic education sit outside that count of five
  • Plus one A-Level at E, or two AS-Levels at E
  • American track: SAT Math 450 and English via IELTS 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or SAT 450
  • No IB points figure is published here, because none was verified on a Ministry source

A UAE certificate equivalency file is the step that turns a school-leaving qualification into something a UAE university or employer will accept, and it is where the accuracy of a tutoring website becomes measurable. For the British track, a student must submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade, and must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among those five required subjects.

That number is the test. One competitor ranking for this market publishes that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects. The reported requirement is five, with Arabic and Islamic Education excluded from the count. A parent who planned a timetable around six when five was required has paid for an entry fee and a term of teaching they did not need. For the American track, English proficiency is met by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test.

For the IB Diploma itself, this page publishes no points threshold, because none was read on a Ministry source during the research for these pages. Several sites state one with confidence. Treat any unsourced figure as a drafting decision rather than a fact, and check moe.gov.ae or the emirate's attestation channel directly. Equivalency is a process the Ministry runs, not something a tuition provider performs, guarantees or can accelerate, and no tuition is required by any regulation in order to complete it.

10

Academic honesty is where best and cheapest point in opposite directions

  • Assessed work is produced by the student; feedback is given on the student's own draft
  • No text is supplied, rewritten or adapted on the student's behalf
  • Official papers and mark schemes are referenced and linked, never redistributed
  • Examiner status is not asserted without evidence, and buys no access to marking

One site researched for this market sells finished Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. That is the clearest illustration available of why a ranking question is the wrong question. On a pure value-per-mark basis a purchased assessment looks efficient. Under IB rules it is malpractice, the consequence falls on the student rather than on the seller, and the risk is to the whole Diploma rather than to one component. A page that competes on price against that offer has already accepted its terms.

The line itself is not vague. Assessed work must be produced by the student. A tutor teaches the subject, explains what a criterion is asking for, questions an argument, points out that a conclusion is not supported by the data, and insists on the word limit. A tutor does not supply text, rewrite paragraphs into their own prose, or hand over a model answer to be adapted. The student's coordinator signs a declaration about the authenticity of the work, and that declaration has to remain true after every session.

Two further rules sit beside it. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to the IB, Cambridge and Pearson; they are referenced and linked, not reproduced or handed out as downloads. And examiner status should not be asserted for anyone whose current status cannot be evidenced, nor used to imply access to marking, boundaries or paper content. A provider that is clear about all three of these is easier to judge than one that offers the most, which is the practical version of choosing well.

11

Does paying more buy a better hour?

Published rates in this market run from AED 33 an hour to AED 650 an hour for what is described, in all cases, as tutoring. The spread is not a quality scale. It is five different products sold under one word, and the useful exercise is to name what each band is actually buying and how it tends to fail. Every figure below was read in October 2026 on the provider's own published rate pages or on a public rate tracker, and every figure is a market rate rather than an IB Gram price.

At the bottom of the range sits generalist teaching, often by a university student: useful for building confidence and working through exercises, unreliable for coursework, because marking a draft against criterion letters requires having taught the component. In the middle sits a qualified subject tutor, which is where most Standard Level teaching belongs. Above that sits a genuine programme specialist, and that band exists because of the supply arithmetic rather than because of brand. At the top sits scarcity and reputation, sometimes attached to a named individual.

Two patterns are worth knowing before any negotiation. A visiting tutor's hourly rate includes travel time, which is why two-hour minimums are normal in that band; the household is buying the journey as well as the lesson. And a provider quoting one rate for every subject and level is not pricing scarcity, which means either the Higher Level work is underserved or the Standard Level work is overpriced. IB Gram publishes no rate card on this page; the first lesson carries no charge, no card details are taken, and pricing is discussed for the specific subject and level once the match is identified.

Why this is taught over live video across all seven emirates

IB Gram does not send a tutor to a UAE address. Tuition for families here is delivered one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, and home visits are a service offered in India only. That is the position on every country page on this site, and it is stated here rather than buried, because a family searching for tuition near them deserves to know the format before the first conversation rather than after it.

The argument for it is the supply arithmetic from earlier on this page. If 7% of Dubai's private school roll sits in the IB, and Higher Level cohorts in Al Ain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah run to a handful of pupils, then a geographically filtered search returns a generalist far more often than a specialist. A family in Khor Fakkan choosing a tutor who can physically attend is choosing from a list of perhaps two. The same family choosing over video is choosing from everyone who has taught that paper.

There are real losses in the trade, and they are worth stating. A tutor in the room reads body language better and can see a worked page without anyone sharing a screen. A young child needs an adult nearby for the first few sessions. Against that sits criterion work on coursework, which suits a shared screen and a marked-up draft better than a kitchen table, plus continuity: a family moving from Dubai to Abu Dhabi keeps the same tutor, even though the school's regulator changes. The comparison below is the honest version.

Starting, and what honest unavailability sounds like

  • Bring the school, the programme, the subjects and levels, and the exam session
  • Bring the coordinator's internal coursework deadline, which decides what is still possible
  • The trial is taught by the tutor who would take the sessions
  • If no specialist is free, expect a date or a referral, not a substitution

The first conversation is short and it is mostly questions. Which school, which programme, which subjects and levels, which exam session, and what the last two reports and the most recent mock said. For a coursework block, which component, which criteria, and what the coordinator's internal deadline is. That last date decides whether the work can still change, and it is the question most providers do not ask because it can rule out the sale.

Then a trial lesson with the tutor who would actually teach the sessions, not a consultant. The trial carries no charge, no card details are taken, and no obligation follows. Sit in on the first ten minutes if you want to. The things worth watching are whether the tutor asks the student to do the work during the hour or performs the explanation at them, and whether the syllabus topic and the criterion are named out loud at some point.

Sometimes the answer is that nobody suitable is free. Higher Level Physics, Higher Level Chemistry and the smaller language and arts subjects are the combinations where a specialist can genuinely be unavailable in the week you ask. When that happens the useful response is a date, an alternative level of support with its limits named, or a referral elsewhere, rather than a general tutor presented as a specialist. Disclosed unavailability is a better signal about a provider than a calendar that is never full and never empty. No competitor page researched for this market discloses a coverage limit of any kind, and several route UAE parents to an overseas number without saying where the teaching happens.

Where we tutor

Where your child's school file sits, emirate by emirate

Which authority holds your child's school file changes what you can read about the school, who approves its fees and curriculum, and where an inspection judgement comes from. It does not change who may tutor your child, which is a federal matter.

Dubai

KHDA oversees the quality of private education in the emirate and publishes both school inspection reports and the mandatory-subject guidelines. It also issues the Educational Services Permit that a tuition business with premises needs. The largest IB cohort in the country sits here, and so does the largest pool of UK-curriculum teachers competing for the same tutoring hours.

Abu Dhabi

The Department of Education and Knowledge supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate, and its professional-ethics rules for school staff bar paid private tutoring of pupils enrolled at the teacher's own school. If a teacher offers evening lessons to your child and teaches them by day, that is the rule to read before accepting.

Al Ain

Al Ain sits inside Abu Dhabi emirate, so its private schools answer to the same Abu Dhabi authority rather than to KHDA, and the same staff ethics rules apply. The IB school count here is small, which means a Higher Level cohort of three or four pupils is normal and a subject specialist within driving distance is not.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in the emirate and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Many Sharjah families send children to schools in Dubai, which means the school is under KHDA while the home is under Sharjah, and evening session timing is set by the commute rather than by either authority.

Ajman

Private schools in Ajman are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education rather than by an emirate-level authority, so inspection material is thinner on the ground than a Dubai parent would expect. IB provision is limited, and families routinely combine a local school place with outside teaching for Higher Level subjects the school cannot staff.

Umm Al Quwain

Umm Al Quwain also falls under the federal Ministry of Education for private-school supervision. It is among the emirates that returned no mentions at all across the competitor pages researched for this market, which tells you something about where tutoring providers put their attention and nothing about the students living there.

Ras Al Khaimah

The Department of Knowledge regulates private education in Ras Al Khaimah and, like Sharjah's authority, approves fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Distance from the Dubai school belt is the practical constraint: a visiting specialist is a two-hour round trip, which is why online teaching changes the available subject list here more than anywhere else.

Fujairah

Fujairah's private schools sit under the federal Ministry of Education. The east-coast location makes a visiting Higher Level specialist close to impossible to arrange on a weekly basis, and families here are usually choosing between a generalist who can attend and a specialist who can teach over video. The second option is the one that matches a syllabus.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai

Dubai holds the country's deepest IB provision, and three more International Baccalaureate schools are among the seven private schools opening for 2026-27. Students we support are enrolled across the schools below. Their internal coursework deadlines differ from each other by several weeks, which is why a tuition plan has to start from the school's calendar rather than from a generic one.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha
  • Uptown International School
  • Deira International School
  • GEMS World Academy - Dubai
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Arabian Ranches
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • Dubai American Academy

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

Abu Dhabi's IB schools are fewer and further apart than Dubai's, and the Department of Education and Knowledge rather than KHDA holds their files. Students we support attend the schools below. Small Higher Level cohorts are the defining feature here: a Physics Higher Level class of four changes how much individual explanation a student actually receives in a week.

  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Raha International School
  • GEMS World Academy - Abu Dhabi
  • The American Community School of Abu Dhabi
  • Al Bateen Academy

Sharjah and the northern emirates

North of Dubai the IB map thins quickly, and supervision shifts between the Sharjah authority, the Ras Al Khaimah Department of Knowledge and the federal Ministry of Education. Students we support attend the schools below alongside Dubai-based schools reached by a daily commute, which is the single biggest constraint on when a weekday session can realistically begin.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Scholars International Academy, Sharjah
  • RAK Academy
  • Ajman Academy

Schools are named here as context for the UAE school system only; no affiliation, partnership or endorsement is implied, and families should verify any school's current programmes with the school and its regulator.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say which school and which authority holds its file

Dubai schools sit under KHDA, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain under the Department of Education and Knowledge, Sharjah under its own authority, Ras Al Khaimah under the Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah under the federal Ministry. The school sets the internal deadlines a plan has to respect.

  2. 02

Name the component and the criteria

A subject and a level are not enough to plan an hour. The component matters, and so do the criterion letters: an exploration out of 20, an investigation out of 24, an Extended Essay out of 34. Naming the component is what turns a general request for help into a specific one the tutor can prepare for.

  3. 03

Count backwards from the real deadline

The deadline that binds is usually the coordinator's internal one, not the board's. Cambridge's published key dates for one series show final entries due in November for an exam period starting in February, so entries close months before the paper. Put every date on one sheet and plan the weeks against it.

  4. 04

Take the trial lesson and watch the first ten minutes

The trial is taught by the tutor who would teach the sessions. No charge applies, no card details are taken, and nothing obliges you to continue. Watch whether the student is made to do the work, and whether the syllabus topic and criterion get named. Both are visible inside ten minutes.

  5. 05

Review against the criteria, not against a feeling

After a block of sessions, the question is whether the marks moved on the criterion that was targeted. A mathematics exploration that gained on use of mathematics worth 6 marks has improved in a way a report comment cannot capture. Review on that basis, and change tutor without embarrassment if it has not happened.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Criteria named, letter by letter

Feedback is given against the published criterion letters and their mark allocations for the component in question, so a parent can see which criterion an hour was spent on. Not one competitor page researched for this market names a single criterion letter, which makes this the easiest quality difference to verify.

Figures that carry a source and a date

Every AED band on this page is attributed to the provider or tracker that published it and dated to October 2026, and every regulatory statement traces to u.ae, KHDA, MoHRE or a named report. Nothing here is presented as an IB Gram price, and no statistic appears without the period it belongs to.

The honesty line stated before you ask

Assessed work is produced by the student. A tutor teaches, questions and reviews a draft the student has written, and no text is supplied or rewritten on their behalf. The coordinator's authenticity declaration stays accurate, which matters more to a Diploma candidate than any amount of convenience.

No claim to a permit or an approval we do not hold

IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or partnership from KHDA, the Department of Education and Knowledge, the Sharjah authority, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and this page claims none. What those bodies do is explained so a parent can check the claims other pages make.

One delivery model, stated plainly

UAE tuition is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and home visits are an India-only service. Saying so on the page rather than in a late phone call is the point: a family in Fujairah or Umm Al Quwain can decide immediately whether the format works for them.

Unavailability disclosed rather than filled

Higher Level Physics, Higher Level Chemistry and the smaller arts and language subjects are genuinely scarce in this market. When no specialist is free, the answer is a date or a referral, with the limits of any interim support named, rather than a generalist described as a programme specialist.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

Is there any official ranking of IB tuition providers in the Emirates?+

No. KHDA oversees private education in Dubai, the Department of Education and Knowledge licenses private schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, the Sharjah Private Education Authority and the Ras Al Khaimah Department of Knowledge regulate their emirates, and the federal Ministry of Education supervises Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. All five regulate schools. None of them rates tutors or tuition companies, and neither does the IB. Any site presenting itself as the market leader is stating an opinion that no public register could confirm. The checkable alternatives are a tutor's subject teaching history, the criteria they can name, and a trial lesson you watch.

What should I read about my child's school before spending anything on tuition?+

Start with the inspection or evaluation material published by the authority that holds the school's file, then the school's own coursework calendar from the Diploma coordinator. The second document is the one that changes decisions. An internal deadline for an internal assessment sits months before the IB's own upload window, and once it passes, no amount of teaching can change that mark. Read them together: the school report tells you how teaching was judged across the school, and the calendar tells you how many weeks are left in the components your child is actually being marked on this term.

How many marks is the Extended Essay worth, and which criterion carries most of them?+

The Extended Essay is marked out of 34 across five criteria: focus and method, knowledge and understanding, critical thinking, presentation and engagement. Critical thinking carries 12 of the 34, which is more than a third, and it is the criterion a descriptive essay cannot score on no matter how well researched it is. Presentation is worth 4, so formatting work is a poor use of a late hour. Confirm the current allocations with your child's supervisor, because the guides are revised between cohorts. The essay must be drafted by the student; a supervisor or tutor discusses reasoning and sources.

Is the Theory of Knowledge essay really capped at 1,600 words?+

The published limit for the essay on a prescribed title is 1,600 words, and the exhibition commentary is 950 words across three objects. Those are short, and the shortness is the difficulty. There is no room for defining terms at length or for an introduction that restates the title. Two knowledge arguments developed properly, each tied to a real example, will score above four arguments gestured at. Check the current limit in the subject guide your child's cohort sits, which the coordinator holds. A tutor's useful job here is teaching how a knowledge claim is built and tested.

What happens if my child's internal assessment runs over the word limit?+

Treat an over-length piece as a problem that will cost marks rather than one that might. Limits are published per component in the subject guide: 4,000 words for the Extended Essay, 3,000 for a sciences investigation, 2,200 for a History investigation, 800 for each Economics commentary. Examiners are not required to reward material beyond a stated limit, and the practical effect is that the sections written last, which are usually evaluation and reflection, are the ones that fall outside it. The fix is arithmetic at the planning stage: allocate the word count across the criteria before the first draft, not after it.

Can a high internal assessment mark carry weak examination papers?+

Not far. In a Diploma science, the investigation is 20% of the subject grade at both Standard and Higher Level, so four-fifths of the grade comes from the papers. Component marks are weighted, added to a scaled total, and the total is placed against grade boundaries that the IB sets for that session. A strong investigation protects the ceiling and removes one source of anxiety, but it cannot compensate for a paper that is losing marks across several topics. The planning question is which component is losing the most marks per hour of study available.

Where are grade boundaries published, and can we see them before the exams?+

Boundaries are set for each session against the papers actually sat and are released to schools, not to the public in advance. Nobody outside the examination system can tell you in advance where a boundary will fall, and a tutor who offers a figure is guessing. Official boundary tables, past papers and mark schemes belong to the awarding bodies; they are referenced and linked rather than redistributed. What a teacher can legitimately do is work from the published component weightings to show how many scaled marks a given improvement is worth in that subject.

Dubai is opening three more IB schools next year. Does that make tutors easier to find?+

It makes them harder to find in the short run. Seven new private schools open in Dubai for 2026-27, four on UK curricula and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 places, and six new schools opened during 2025-26 while enrolment rose 6%. New IB schools recruit experienced Diploma teachers from the same pool families hire from in the evenings. The practical consequence is that the booking window matters more than the hourly rate for a Higher Level subject: September gives you options, February gives you whoever has not been taken.

Does the fact that Dubai schools teach seventeen curricula change how we choose?+

It changes which question you ask first. With seventeen curricula in one city, and the IB at 7% of the private-school roll against 37% on UK curricula, most tutors available here trained on GCSE and A-Level. Someone describing themselves as a maths tutor may never have taught a Diploma exploration or seen the criteria it is marked against. So ask about the syllabus and the component rather than the subject: which papers have you taught to, and what are the criterion letters for this coursework piece. The answer separates the two groups immediately.

Should I prefer a provider with premises in Dubai over one that teaches online?+

Premises answer a different question from teaching quality. A tuition business with premises and staff in Dubai needs an Educational Services Permit for a training institute, which involves initial approval, a maximum of six months to complete the steps and annual renewal. That document says nothing about whether any individual tutor has taught your child's Higher Level subject. An individual giving private lessons needs the MoHRE private tuition work permit instead. Ask about both where they apply, then judge the teaching separately, on the criteria the tutor can name and what you see in a trial lesson.

How do I check that a school a tutoring website lists actually exists?+

Check it against the regulator that would hold its file: the Dubai authority for Dubai schools, the Abu Dhabi authority for Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, the Sharjah authority, the Ras Al Khaimah Department of Knowledge, or the federal Ministry for Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Spelling matters, because a school listed under a slightly wrong name is a signal in itself. During research for these pages one competitor listed a school that appears not to exist, and several present twenty or more schools as clients with no relationship of any kind. School names are context, not evidence.

Which single document tells me most about whether tuition will help?+

The subject guide for the component your child is currently being assessed on, read alongside the most recent marked piece of work. The guide names the criteria and the marks each one carries; the marked work shows which criterion is actually losing them. Together they turn a vague sense that a subject is going badly into a target: 6 marks in use of mathematics, or 6 in evaluation, or 12 in critical thinking. The Diploma coordinator holds the correct version of the guide for your child's cohort, which is the version that counts.

My child's subject guide changed between year groups. Does that affect tuition?+

Yes, and it is worth checking at the first session rather than discovering later. The IB revises subject guides, and criteria, mark allocations and word limits can move between cohorts. The sciences investigation, for example, is assessed on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation under the current guide, which is not how earlier cohorts were marked. A tutor working from an older guide will give confident feedback against criteria that no longer apply. Ask which guide version they are using and compare it against the one your child's coordinator holds.

If the Ministry sets the Arabic content, what is left for tuition to do?+

Language, reading fluency and examination technique, worked on the material the school has been given. For the mandatory UAE subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior Ministry permission is strictly prohibited, and schools must ensure teachers of Arabic and Islamic Education hold appropriate KHDA approval for those subjects. Outside support therefore cannot run a parallel syllabus or supply its own curriculum. What it can do is build vocabulary and script confidence, practise answering in the register the paper expects, and help a non-Arab student keep pace in a class streamed by first language.

Is the most expensive hour on the market the right hour for a Standard Level student?+

Usually not. Published rates in this market run from AED 33 to AED 650 an hour, and the top band is priced by scarcity and reputation rather than by suitability. A Standard Level subject taught to the school's scheme of work is well served by a qualified subject tutor, where published rates sit between AED 150 and AED 300. The premium band earns its price on Higher Level teaching and on coursework where criterion knowledge is decisive. Paying specialist rates for Standard Level homework support is the most common way a UAE tuition budget is wasted.

If this is the better option, why does nobody drive to our address?+

Because a geographically filtered search returns a generalist far more often than a specialist. With the International Baccalaureate at 7% of Dubai's private-school roll, and Higher Level cohorts in Al Ain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah running to a handful of pupils, the pool of people who can physically attend and have taught the paper is often empty. The trade is a room for a subject match, and it is stated here rather than discovered later.

What should the first lesson actually produce if we are still deciding?+

Three things you can look at afterwards. A named target: the syllabus topic or the criterion letter the sessions will work on. A realistic view of the time available, counted from the coordinator's internal deadline rather than from the exam date. And evidence that the student did the work during the hour instead of watching an explanation. The trial carries no charge, no card details are taken and nothing obliges you to continue, so the only thing at risk is an hour. If none of those three appears, that is the answer.

Judge it on the documents, not on the adjectives

Nobody in the Emirates publishes a ranking of IB tuition, so the useful version of this search is narrower and far more answerable. Which criteria is the work marked against, by letter and by mark. Which deadline actually binds, the coordinator's or the board's. Who is permitted to teach privately here, and under which permit. What a rate includes, with a source and a date beside it. IB Gram teaches UAE families one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with the first lesson at no charge and no card details taken. Bring the school name, the subjects and levels, the exam session and the next coursework deadline, and the first conversation can be specific from the start.
