IB Holiday Tuition in the UAE

IB holiday tuition in the UAE has to fit a calendar your family does not set. Your school's term dates are approved by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge or the federal Ministry of Education, and the break that follows is the only block of uninterrupted time an IB student gets. This page explains what each break is good for, who sets it, what the market charges, and how one-to-one lessons run live online on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Lessons run live online, one-to-one; no tutor is sent to a UAE address
  • Holiday blocks timed to Gulf Standard Time, including post-Iftar slots in Ramadan
  • Market AED rates published with the provider and the month they were read
  • A trial lesson at no charge, one lesson per subject, before any block is agreed

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

A holiday is the only time an IB student controls the whole week

During term, an IB Diploma student in the UAE has six subjects, an Extended Essay, a Theory of Knowledge essay, an Internal Assessment in most of those subjects, and whatever Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies their school is required to timetable alongside the Diploma. The week is full before any tutoring is added to it. A holiday is a different problem. For three days or eight weeks, depending which break you are in, nothing competes. That is why IB holiday tuition in the UAE runs on a different logic from a weekly term-time lesson: the question is not where to squeeze an hour, but what to rebuild while there is room to rebuild it.

The complication is that you do not set the dates. Private schools here are licensed emirate by emirate. Dubai answers to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain answer to the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah its Department of Knowledge, and the Ministry of Education plays a pivotal role in supervising private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. In Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah the authority also approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods.

Scale makes this a planning problem rather than a detail. Dubai alone had 387,441 private-school students across 227 schools offering 17 different curricula in 2024-25, with the International Baccalaureate at 7 per cent of enrolment and the UK curriculum at 37 per cent. Seven more private schools open for 2026-27, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, adding 16,846 places. Schools on a September start and schools on an April start sit in the same community with different holidays, and a family with children in two of them plans around two calendars.

What usually goes wrong in a holiday is not laziness. It is that nobody decided what the block was for. Eight weeks of unspecified revision produces a student who has reread notes and learned nothing new. A block that works names the deliverable on day one: the Maths exploration moves from a vague idea to a tested dataset; the Chemistry student rebuilds organic mechanisms from first principles instead of memorising arrows; the DP1 student who dropped from a 5 to a 3 in Physics Paper 2 fixes the two topics that paper actually tested. Everything else is scheduling.

Lessons for UAE families run live online, one-to-one, over video. IB Gram does not make home visits to UAE addresses; that is part of what we do in India, not here. In a holiday it turns out to be an advantage rather than a compromise. Families travel. A student in Al Ain in June may be in Kerala, Karachi, Manchester or Amman by July, and a tutor who exists on a screen follows them there without a new match, a new diagnosis and a new first lesson. The same format is why a Fujairah family can book a Chemistry HL specialist at all: the pool is not limited to whoever lives within driving distance of the east coast.

The rest of this page is built around the four breaks a UAE school year contains, the authorities that set their dates, what the market charges for a block in dirhams, the Cambridge and Pearson deadlines that fall outside the holidays they affect, and the academic-honesty line a tutor must not cross in the weeks when coursework finally gets finished.

At a glance

  • Four breaks, four different jobs: summer rebuilds, December repairs, spring is technique, Eid is one milestone
  • Your term dates are approved by your emirate's regulator, not by the IB
  • Market rates for a holiday block run roughly AED 45 to AED 650 an hour by tier and source
  • Cambridge and Pearson entry deadlines fall in term, months before the exams they govern
  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies are required alongside the Diploma in Dubai private schools
  • Sessions are live online and one-to-one, in Gulf Standard Time or the time zone you travel to
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Each IB programme uses a break differently, because the thing at risk differs. A PYP child loses fluency. An MYP student loses the habit of writing to a clock. A DP student loses a topic they will be examined on in May. The notes below are about what a holiday does to each programme inside a UAE school year, not about what the programme is.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The PYP is inquiry-led and reported against learner outcomes rather than examined, so nothing visible breaks over a long holiday, which is exactly why it gets left out of holiday plans. What slips is fluency: reading stamina, number facts recalled without counting, and writing at length without prompting. Six weeks without any of it shows in September. A Year 5 child who has stopped reading daily reads noticeably more slowly in week one of a new unit, and the teacher reads that as a dip in ability rather than a dip in practice.

In Dubai private schools, PYP children also carry Arabic, Islamic Education and Moral or Social Studies, taught in separate classes for Arab and non-Arab groups under KHDA's rules. For most UAE families at this age the highest-value summer block is twenty-five to thirty minutes of Arabic reading three times a week, built from the school's own unit plan rather than from any substitute material.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

MYP assesses against four criteria per subject, marked out of eight, with redrafting built into the process. That is a gentler regime than the Diploma's timed papers and it hides one specific weakness: students who have never produced finished written work under a clock. The MYP5 personal project also lands in a year already crowded with criterion tasks. Holiday time at this stage buys writing speed, notation discipline in maths and science, and the habit of reading a command term properly before answering it.

MYP to DP summer preparation is the most requested holiday block we get from UAE families, and most of them ask a year later than they should. A student entering DP1 in late August gains more from six weeks of short timed writing in July than from pre-teaching Diploma content. The content arrives anyway in September; the clock does not arrive with it.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and an Internal Assessment in most subjects. Paper weightings do the damage: a Higher Level science Paper 3 or a Maths Paper 3 carries enough of the grade that one weak forty minutes costs a band. The Diploma is cumulative too, so a topic skipped in DP1 returns in May of DP2 with interest. That is why holiday blocks in this programme are usually repair work against a named topic list rather than general revision.

UAE Diploma students sit the May session, and schools here run internal mocks in the winter term and again in spring. That puts a holiday on either side of the mocks with different jobs: December repairs the subject the November internal test exposed, and the spring fortnight is for full timed papers against the published mark scheme. We do not publish IB session or results dates on this page; confirm those with your school's IB coordinator.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The Career-related Programme pairs Diploma courses with a career-related study, a reflective project, a language-development requirement and a personal and professional skills core. A small number of UAE schools run it, and it attracts students who want Diploma-level rigour in two or three subjects with an applied strand alongside. Holiday support here usually focuses on the Diploma courses inside the timetable and on the reflective project's structure, which is the component most often left until it is late.

Because CP cohorts in the UAE are small, a student wanting help with one Diploma course inside a CP timetable rarely finds a specialist at their own school or in their own emirate. That is the clearest case for one-to-one lessons on live video: the match is made on the subject and the level, not on who happens to live in the same city.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Holiday demand is not spread evenly across the Diploma. These are the subjects UAE families book blocks in, with the specific failure a break is usually bought to fix. Each is taught at the level your child is actually entered for, because Higher and Standard are different courses with different papers rather than the same course at two speeds.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The proof, calculus and algebraic-manipulation route. Marks go in Paper 1, where no calculator is allowed and one shaky algebraic step ends the question. Holiday blocks here usually rebuild differentiation, integration techniques and proof structure before moving to the exploration.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and technology use. Students who chose this route to avoid algebra are caught by the statistics content and by modelling questions that require reading a context and selecting a function. UAE universities differ on which route they expect, so check the course page before any switch.

Physics

HL and SL

The gap is almost never the maths. It is explaining a mechanism in words, and the unfamiliar-context question in Paper 2. Higher Level Paper 3 adds practical and data analysis, which is the component online sessions improve fastest because the work is reading graphs, errors and uncertainties.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms and equilibrium calculations account for most of the lost marks we see in UAE scripts. Both respond well to a holiday block because they are procedural: a defined sequence of steps, practised until automatic. Energetics and bonding need understanding rebuilt instead, which takes longer.

Biology

HL and SL

Content volume is the problem rather than difficulty. Students who revise by rereading retain little; the fix is structured recall against syllabus statements plus command-term practice on outline, explain and evaluate. The Internal Assessment needs a measurable variable chosen early, which is a holiday job.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and the evaluation sentence at the end of a long answer are where bands are won. Higher Level adds quantitative questions. The Internal Assessment is a set of commentaries on real articles, and choosing weak articles costs more marks than writing badly about strong ones.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tool application is the weakness: students name a framework instead of applying it to the stimulus in front of them. Holiday blocks work through past stimulus material under time, then on the Internal Assessment's research question, which has to be answerable with evidence the student can actually obtain.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is unseen guided analysis, and students who have only studied set texts panic at it. The individual oral needs a global issue linked to two texts and collapses without planning. Short, frequent sessions on unseen extracts suit a break better than long ones.

English B

HL and SL

Receptive and productive skills are assessed separately, and the writing tasks require a text type with its own conventions. Students in UAE schools who speak English fluently still lose marks on register and text-type convention, which is teachable inside a fortnight.

Arabic B and Arabic ab initio

HL, SL and ab initio

Script, verb forms, and the distance between classroom Arabic and the Arabic spoken in a UAE household. This is the Diploma language course and is assessed as one, separate from the mandatory Arabic a Dubai private school must timetable alongside it.

History

HL and SL

Source-based Paper 1 has a fixed question structure that can be drilled, and the Internal Assessment needs a narrow question with sources the student can reach. Most lost marks come from writing narrative where the question asked for an argument.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Core components

Neither is a subject and both are usually behind. The Theory of Knowledge essay needs its prescribed title read properly; the Extended Essay needs a question narrow enough to answer in four thousand words. Process coaching only: the student is the author of every sentence.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four shapes cover almost every holiday request UAE families send us. Pick by the length of the break and the deliverable, not by the number of hours that sounds serious. All four run one-to-one on live video, in Gulf Standard Time or whatever time zone the family is in that month.

Summer bridge block

Six to eight weeks, two subjects, three to five hours a week, with a named topic list agreed before the first session. Booked most for MYP5 into DP1 and DP1 into DP2. The block ends with a written handover: what was covered, what the student can now do unaided, and the two things to watch in the first month of the new term.

  • Topic list drawn from your school's own scheme of work
  • Written practice between sessions, marked and returned
  • One week clear before term restarts
  • Handover note aimed at the new teacher's first fortnight

Pre-mock December intensive

Two to three weeks across the winter break, one or two subjects, built from the marked November internal paper rather than a syllabus overview. Four sessions per subject is the usual shape, with the last four days of the holiday left clear. The target is the January mock and the predicted grade that follows from it.

  • Starts from the marked script, not from a grade
  • Two topics per subject at most
  • A timed question in every session
  • Finishes before the holiday does

Spring timed-paper block

Two weeks of full papers under exam conditions, marked against the published scheme, with the distance between the student's answer and the band descriptor read out explicitly. No new content is taught. For most UAE Diploma students this is the last uninterrupted fortnight before the May session, and it is spent on technique.

  • Full papers to time, not question sets
  • Marked against the real scheme, not an impression
  • Command-term drill on the weakest bands
  • Paper 3 given its own sessions at Higher Level

Coursework process coaching

Short checkpoints across a break for the Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay. The student brings a draft, the tutor reads it against the criteria letter by letter, and the student leaves with changes to make alone. The student is the author of every sentence; nothing else is on offer here.

  • Criteria read letter by letter with their mark allocations
  • Research question narrowed by the student, not chosen for them
  • Feedback on the student's own draft only
  • No past papers, mark schemes or syllabus files supplied

01

What UAE families mean when they search for holiday tuition

IB holiday tuition in the UAE is one-to-one teaching booked into a school break rather than a term week, usually to rebuild a subject, bridge two programmes, or move an Internal Assessment to a real draft. A UAE school year contains four usable breaks of very different lengths, and the job changes with the length. Eight weeks is a rebuild. Three days is maintenance. Treating them the same is the most common planning error we see.

The lengths in the table are what UAE private schools typically run, not dates anyone can set for you. Each school publishes its own calendar under the licence its emirate's regulator issues, and schools on an April start break at different points from schools on a September start. Check your own school's published calendar before committing to a block, then check it again in February, because internal assessment weeks and mock windows move more often than parents expect them to.

The column parents usually get wrong is the load. A holiday is not a reason to run ten hours a week. Past about five hours of new teaching in a week, retention falls and the student begins resenting the break, which costs more in September than the extra hours bought. The pattern that holds is short, frequent and specific: four sessions a week of fifty minutes against one named topic list, with written practice between them, then a clear week before term restarts.

An online IB holiday tutor makes that pattern economic in a way a driving tutor cannot. Nobody spends forty minutes on Sheikh Zayed Road to deliver a fifty-minute lesson, so short sessions stop being wasteful, and a family that leaves the country for July keeps the same tutor in August instead of starting again with somebody new at the worst possible moment.

Who actually sets the holiday your plan has to fit

  • KHDA oversees the quality of private education in Dubai, including the mandatory UAE subjects
  • ADEK supervises licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain
  • SPEA and Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge approve assessment methods, so test weeks move locally
  • The federal ministry supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah

Nobody in the UAE school system answers to a single authority on term dates. Private schools are licensed emirate by emirate, and u.ae sets out the whole map: KHDA in Dubai, ADEK in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, the Sharjah Private Education Authority in Sharjah, the Department of Knowledge in Ras Al Khaimah, and the federal Ministry of Education, which plays a pivotal role in supervising private schools in the emirates of Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Five bodies, one country, three different holiday calendars in a single street.

This matters for more than trivia. In Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah the authority approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, assessment methods included. A Sharjah school's internal testing calendar is therefore a locally approved document, and the mock window your spring plan is built around will not necessarily sit where a Dubai friend's does. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff bar teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, which closes the easiest-looking option a parent reaches for in a hurry.

There is also a federal floor under every licensed curriculum. Private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but they must adhere to the ministry's general regulations. In Dubai, KHDA requires those subjects in every private school whatever the international curriculum, with the requirement to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April. A Diploma holiday plan that leaves them out is incomplete before it starts.

The practical move is to write four things down once: your school's published calendar, your emirate's regulator, the board your child is actually entered with, and your own travel plan. Most holiday plans fail because two of those four were never compared with each other.

The summer block: what six to eight weeks can and cannot repair

Summer is the only break long enough to change a grade rather than protect one. Six to eight weeks allows a full pass through a year's content with practice attached, which is why IB summer tuition in Dubai is booked most heavily by two groups: students moving from MYP5 into DP1, and students moving from DP1 into DP2. Both are transition years, and both go wrong for the same reason. The new course assumes a skill the old one never assessed.

MYP to DP summer preparation is mostly about notation, pace and formal writing. MYP marks against criteria and allows redrafting; the Diploma marks papers under time. A student who has never written to a command term against a clock finds Paper 1 brutal in October, and the repair is six weeks of short timed writing rather than more content. The IGCSE to IB Diploma holiday bridge has a sharper version of the same gap: Extended-tier algebra and Cambridge practical skills do not carry a student through Maths AA HL or a Diploma science Internal Assessment.

The DP1 to DP2 summer bridge is a different job again. By July a DP1 student has internal exam grades, two or three partly built Internal Assessments, and a clear sense of which subject is the risk. Summer is when that subject gets rebuilt from the syllabus outwards instead of patched topic by topic. Eight weeks of IB revision over the summer holiday on Chemistry HL organic mechanisms, or on Maths AA HL proof and calculus, moves a student off the boundary they have been sitting on since February.

What summer cannot do is manufacture a subject the student has not studied. Nobody builds Physics HL Paper 3 technique in six weeks from a standing start, and anyone promising it is selling the holiday rather than the teaching. Decide what the block is for, put it in writing, and judge it in September against that sentence rather than against how busy the weeks felt.

04

Winter break, the January mocks and the report that follows

The two to three weeks in late December are the most mispriced block in the UAE school year. They sit immediately before the January mock window in most Diploma schools, and a mock grade is what feeds the predicted-grade conversation with the university counsellor. IB winter break tutoring is therefore not general revision. It is targeted repair of whatever the November internal test exposed, in the one or two subjects where the predicted grade is genuinely at risk.

The useful input is the paper, not the percentage. A DP2 student who lost eleven marks across two Chemistry Paper 2 questions has a specific problem, equilibrium calculation or data handling with uncertainties, and four sessions can fix it. The same student told only that they got a 4 will spend the holiday rereading the whole syllabus and arrive in January with both gaps intact. Bring the marked script to the first session. Everything else about the block follows from reading it properly.

December also carries a planning job nothing else in the year has room for. Internal Assessment deadlines in DP2 cluster in the term after the mocks, and the Extended Essay is usually at or near its final internal deadline. A single ninety-minute session in the break, spent on structure, criteria and what the next draft has to show, saves weeks of drift in February. Measured against the time it takes, it is the cheapest hour in the whole two-year programme.

Keep the load light anyway. Three weeks with family in them is still a holiday, and a DP2 student who works through all of it walks into mocks tired. Two subjects, four sessions each, written work in between, and the final four days off entirely is a plan that survives contact with an actual December.

05

Spring break and the deadlines that passed months ago

By the spring break the decisions that matter have already been made, and most were made against a deadline nobody mentioned at the time. Pearson's International GCSE November 2026 series shows the shape plainly: the papers ran from late October to 19 November 2026, which means the entry went through the centre in the term before that, and the results from the equivalent November 2025 series only reached students on 22 January 2026. Measured against that window, the holiday that did the work was the summer one, not any break falling after the entry had already closed. A Cambridge candidate runs the same arithmetic against June, with the entry closing a term ahead of the first paper and the November series waiting as the resit route.

Cambridge runs International GCSE, O Level and International A Level in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states it is essential that you use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used. Ask your school's exams officer which zone it sits in before planning a single session around a date.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so treat the live official PDF as the only version worth planning against. IB dates are not published here: confirm the current session window with ibo.org or your school's IB coordinator.

What the spring fortnight is actually for is technique under time. Full papers, marked against the published scheme, with the distance between the student's answer and the band descriptor read out loud rather than implied. IB spring break revision in Sharjah, Dubai or Al Ain looks identical in content and differs only in when the school's own internal mock week sits, which is itself a locally approved date.

Ramadan, Eid and when a holiday session can actually start

Ramadan reshapes a UAE study week more than any other part of the calendar, and it moves roughly eleven days earlier each year, so advice that worked two years ago may now land in a different term altogether. School days typically shorten, families eat late, and a student who was sharp at five in the afternoon in January is not sharp at the same hour while fasting. A Ramadan IB tutoring schedule that ignores this produces attended sessions and very little learning.

The answer is to move the slot rather than the content. Post-Iftar sessions, usually from around nine in the evening Gulf Standard Time, work well for Diploma students: the fast is broken, the house is awake, and concentration is genuinely available. Some families prefer the quiet hour before Suhoor for written practice instead. Either works with a tutor on live video, because no travel has to be arranged around it. Tell us which window your household actually keeps at booking rather than discovering it in week two.

Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha are short, and the honest advice is usually to leave them alone. Three to five days with family is not a revision window. Where Eid holiday IB sessions earn their place is a single milestone: the Maths exploration dataset gets collected, the Extended Essay research question gets narrowed, the History Internal Assessment source list gets finalised. One session, one deliverable, then stop and let the holiday be a holiday.

Travel compounds all of it. Families leave for Eid and for the summer, and the time zone leaves with them. A block agreed in Gulf Standard Time can be rescheduled to London, Karachi, Nairobi or Toronto hours without changing tutor, which is the main practical advantage of lessons that happen on a screen rather than in a car.

Arabic, Islamic Education and UAE Social Studies in a holiday plan

Almost every Diploma holiday plan we are sent leaves out the three subjects the UAE requires. In Dubai, KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with the requirement to be implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year, and April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April. These sit alongside six Diploma subjects, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge, and they carry school grades that land on the report card parents then react to.

The rules around them are specific enough to change what a holiday block should contain. KHDA requires separate classes by group: for Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because of the different curriculum expectations and language of instruction. Standard Arabic is the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arab students and for Arabic as a first language, while non-Arab students take Islamic Education and Moral, Social and Cultural studies in the school's licensed-curriculum language.

Two further details matter for scheduling and for material. KHDA calculates mandatory-subject instructional time on a forty-minute lesson unit, advises that any mandatory-subject lesson runs at least twenty-five minutes, and lets schools vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, so a short frequent holiday session matches the format the school already uses. And for these subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the ministry is strictly prohibited. A holiday block therefore works from your school's own scheme of work and from nothing else.

Schools must also ensure that teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate KHDA approval for those subjects, which is a credential you can ask your own school about directly. For holiday support the sensible brief is narrow: reading fluency, written register, and the specific vocabulary the school's current unit plan names.

Academic honesty in the weeks when coursework finally gets finished

  • Teaching the skill, explaining the criteria and questioning a method are all inside the line
  • Supplying sentences, choosing the research question or providing data is outside it
  • Short checkpoints across a break keep the authorship record clean
  • No board documents, past papers or mark schemes are supplied as files

Holidays are when Internal Assessments, the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay actually get finished, because term weeks have no room for sustained writing. That makes a break the point of highest temptation in the two-year programme, and it is where these search results are least honest. At least one site ranking for queries like this one sells finished Internal Assessments outright at a four-figure dirham price. Under IB academic-honesty rules, submitting that work is malpractice, and the consequence falls on the student rather than the seller.

The line itself is not vague. A tutor may teach the skill the task assesses, explain the criteria letter by letter and what each band descriptor is asking for, question a method until the student finds the flaw themselves, point at a paragraph and say it does not do what the criterion requires, and model a technique on a different example. A tutor may not supply sentences, rework a paragraph into its final form, pick the research question, or hand over data the student did not collect. The author is the student, every time.

IB IA support during school holidays works best as a sequence of short checkpoints rather than one long session. The student arrives with a draft, the tutor reads it against the criteria, and the student leaves with a list of changes to make alone. Three of those across a two-week break move an exploration from criterion-level guesswork to something a school's internal marker can recognise. The record of who contributed what is cleaner this way too, which matters if a school ever asks the question.

One more boundary is worth stating plainly. No tutor here supplies past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables or syllabus documents as files. Those belong to the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and reproducing them is a copyright matter rather than a grey area. We point at the official page and work from the material your school has legitimately given your child.

What a holiday block costs in the UAE market

A holiday block is priced per hour in this market, and the hourly figure is the number competitors hide. Three of the six strongest pages in these results publish no price at all, and two of the rest quote US dollars, a currency UAE families do not transact in. The table below is the market in dirhams, with the provider that published each figure named and the month the figure was read. None of it is an IB Gram price list.

Read it as bands rather than quotes. A university student teaching online and a subject specialist with Diploma teaching experience are different products at AED 45 and AED 300, and the cheaper one is not a saving if the block has to be run again in December. The in-home row carries travel inside it, which is where a chunk of the AED 180 to AED 500 range comes from: an hour at a villa in Khalifa City is an hour of teaching plus an hour of driving, and somebody is paying for the driving.

Context helps as well. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private-school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. School fees are the fixed cost in a family budget; a holiday block is the discretionary one, and a four-week specialist block at the market's mid rate is a real decision rather than a rounding error. Price the block, not the hour, before agreeing to anything.

For our own numbers the honest answer is a conversation. What a block costs depends on the subject, the level, the number of hours and the window, and printing one figure for every Diploma subject would be inventing it. Start with a trial lesson at no charge, one lesson per subject, then ask for the whole block in writing with the session count and the topic list attached.

Is a holiday tutor legally permitted to teach in the UAE?

Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted and it is regulated, and the regulation is specific. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and u.ae states that it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the smart app, the website or the e-services system.

The consequence of not holding one is not hypothetical. u.ae states that individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MOHRE will be subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No schedule of amounts is published, and figures circulating online could not be verified, so no amount appears on this page. The point for a parent is simpler than the law: a tutor who cannot answer the permit question has told you something useful, and a holiday block is long enough that the answer is worth having.

A tuition centre is a different legal animal from an individual. An operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs an Educational Services Permit for a training institute from KHDA, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. That permit is issued to institutions with premises, not to individual tutors, which is why any page implying a regulator has vetted its tutor list is describing something that does not exist in that form.

IB Gram matches students with tutors. It does not operate a school or a training institute in the UAE, and nothing on this page should be read as a regulator endorsing it. What we can do is be plain about the rules, name the official channels, and leave you able to ask the tutor the permit question yourself before a holiday block starts.

Equivalency, universities and what a holiday block is not for

Parents often ask whether a holiday block helps with Ministry of Education equivalency. It helps with grades, and grades feed the paperwork, but no tutoring is required for equivalency and nobody should imply otherwise. The British-track rule as published is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

One detail is worth knowing before you plan an Arabic holiday block for equivalency reasons: Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects for the GCSE and IGCSE count. A page currently ranking for UAE equivalency queries states that candidates here must take six IGCSE subjects, which does not match the published rule. For the American track, English proficiency is shown through a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, with mathematics requiring at least 450 in SAT Math.

For IB there is no figure on this page, deliberately. No IB points threshold for equivalency has been read on a ministry source, so publishing one would be guessing with a family's university application. Check the current requirement on moe.gov.ae or with the attestation authority in your emirate, and treat any site that quotes a confident number without citing the ministry with the scepticism it deserves.

The useful holiday work here is ordinary: get the five IGCSE subjects secure, get the Advanced Level or Diploma grades where they need to be, and keep the documents in order. Equivalency and attestation are processes the authorities run, not services a tutoring platform performs, and anyone offering to handle them for you is outside their lane.

Where we tutor

Holiday tuition emirate by emirate

Term dates, regulators and the local supply of subject specialists all vary by emirate, and the northern emirates are where the supply gap is widest. These notes cover what changes for a holiday block depending on where your child is enrolled. They are not a list of places anyone drives to, because the lessons happen on live video.

Dubai

227 private schools and 17 curricula in 2024-25, with the International Baccalaureate at 7 per cent of enrolment. KHDA regulates, mandatory UAE subjects apply in every school, and both September and April starts exist here, so IB summer tuition in Dubai covers two different holiday calendars inside one emirate.

Abu Dhabi

ADEK licenses the schools and sets professional-ethics rules that bar school staff from paid private tutoring of students at their own school. A holiday IB intensive in Abu Dhabi therefore almost always means an outside tutor, and Diploma families here tend to book the December block around their school's own mock week.

Al Ain

Also under ADEK, with a smaller Diploma cohort and far fewer subject specialists living locally. Al Ain families travel heavily in summer, which makes a tutor who follows the time zone rather than the postcode the practical option for a long block.

Sharjah

SPEA regulates, and approves fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Because assessment methods are approved locally, internal test weeks move, and IB spring break revision in Sharjah has to be planned against the school's own calendar rather than a neighbour's in Dubai.

Ajman

Supervised by the federal Ministry of Education rather than an emirate authority. A small number of international schools and almost no local Diploma specialists, so holiday blocks here run online by necessity as much as by design.

Ras Al Khaimah

The Department of Knowledge regulates private education and approves fees, curricula and assessment methods. Named by none of the competitor pages we studied, which reflects how thin provision is. Families often plan summer blocks around travel out of the emirate entirely.

Fujairah

Under the Ministry of Education's supervision, on the east coast, and a long drive from most of the specialist supply in Dubai. The driving is the whole argument: a fifty-minute online session is possible here in a way a fifty-minute in-home one is not.

Umm Al Quwain

The smallest private-school market in the country, also supervised by the Ministry of Education. Holiday support for a Diploma subject here means looking outside the emirate, and the honest version of that is a tutor on video rather than a weekly commute.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai

Dubai's Diploma schools run on different calendars, some on a September start and some on April, and the mandatory UAE subjects sit on top of the Diploma in all of them. December and spring blocks here are usually planned around the school's own mock week rather than the emirate's holiday dates.

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

Schools here hold their licence from ADEK, which sets professional-ethics rules that keep a child's own teachers out of paid tutoring. Diploma cohorts are smaller than Dubai's, so a Higher Level specialist in a minority subject is rarely free locally inside a holiday window.

Sharjah and the northern emirates

Sharjah's schools work to curricula and assessment methods approved by SPEA, while schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah answer to the federal ministry. Local specialist supply thins out quickly here, which is the main reason holiday blocks in these emirates run online.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the break and the deliverable

Say which holiday, which subjects, which level, and what you want to be true at the end of it. Chemistry HL in December, fixing equilibrium and data handling before mocks, is a brief we can staff. Some revision over the holidays is not, and it is the request that most reliably produces a wasted block.

  2. 02

    Send the evidence first

The marked paper, the report card, the Internal Assessment draft, the school's scheme of work for the current unit. Forty-five minutes of a tutor reading that before the first session is worth more than two sessions of diagnosis, and it keeps the block working from your school's material instead of a generic revision course.

  3. 03

We check who is free in that window

Holiday weeks are the busiest in the year and also the weeks tutors take leave. Availability is confirmed against your exact dates before any quote. If no specialist at that subject and level is free, we say so rather than putting a generalist into a Higher Level slot and hoping.

  4. 04

Trial lesson, then the block in writing

One trial lesson per subject, at no charge. If it works you get the block written down: the number of sessions, the topic list, the practice set between sessions, and the price for the whole block rather than an hourly rate you have to multiply yourself and hope you guessed right.

  5. 05

The block runs, then hands over

Sessions happen on live video at the agreed time, rescheduled to your time zone if the family travels mid-block. At the end you get a short handover note you can give the school: what was covered, what is now secure, and what still needs watching in the first month of term.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The plan starts from your school's material

KHDA's own rule for the mandatory UAE subjects is that different or additional content needs prior permission from the ministry, and the same instinct is good practice everywhere else. A block built from your school's scheme of work and your child's marked papers beats one built from somebody's generic holiday revision course.

Every dirham figure carries its source

Each rate on this page is attributed to the provider that published it and the month it was read, and none of them is presented as our price list. No statistic appears without a source behind it. You can check the numbers yourself before deciding what a holiday block is worth to your family.

The regulator map is on the page

Which authority licenses your school, what it approves, and what that does to your holiday dates, set out in a table rather than hidden behind a form. Of the competitor pages we studied for these queries, not one names ADEK at all, and several never mention a regulator in any form.

One-to-one and live online

No driving, so a fifty-minute session is economic and a short daily pattern becomes possible. The match is made on subject and level rather than on who lives nearby, which is the difference between a Chemistry HL specialist and the nearest tutor with a free Tuesday evening.

Coursework help stops at the student's own work

A tutor teaches the skill, explains the criteria and gives feedback on a draft the student has produced. The student is the author. Any offer of finished assessed work in exchange for a fee is malpractice under IB rules, and it is the student who carries the finding, not the site that sold it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

Can my child take IB lessons during the UAE summer break?+

Yes, and summer is the block that changes most. Six to eight weeks is long enough for a full pass through a subject with practice attached, which is why most UAE families book it for the transition years: MYP5 into DP1, or DP1 into DP2. Lessons run one-to-one on live video, so a family travelling in July keeps the same tutor rather than restarting in August with somebody new. The pattern that works is three to five hours a week across two subjects, with written work between sessions and the last week left clear before term restarts.

How many weeks of the summer holiday should an IB student actually work?+

Four to six of the eight, with a clear break at either end. Starting in the first week usually fails because the student has not stopped yet, and working through the final week leaves them tired for the first unit of the new term. Within those weeks keep new teaching under about five hours. Past that, retention falls and resentment rises, which costs more in September than the extra hours bought. Two subjects, four short sessions a week, written practice between them. A block that is tolerated gets finished; one that is endured gets abandoned in week three.

What should a DP2 student do with the two weeks before January mocks?+

Work from the marked November internal paper rather than from the syllabus. A student who lost marks across two Chemistry Paper 2 questions has a specific, fixable problem; the same student told only that they scored a 4 will reread everything and arrive with both gaps intact. Pick one or two subjects, four sessions each, and put a timed question in every session. Leave the final four days of the break alone. The mock grade feeds the predicted-grade conversation with the university counsellor, which is why this short block is worth more per hour than any other in the year.

Do UAE school holiday dates differ between Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah?+

They can, and more often than parents expect. Private schools are licensed emirate by emirate, KHDA in Dubai, ADEK in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, SPEA in Sharjah, and each school publishes its own calendar under that licence. Dubai also has schools on a September start and schools on an April start, so two families in the same community can be on different holidays. In Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah the authority approves assessment methods as well as curricula, so internal test weeks move too. Check your own school's published calendar before booking a block.

Who approves the academic calendar my child's private school follows?+

The emirate's regulator, through the licence the school holds. u.ae sets out the map: KHDA oversees private education in Dubai, ADEK supervises licensing and accreditation in Abu Dhabi, the Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates Sharjah, the Department of Knowledge regulates Ras Al Khaimah, and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. In Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah the authority also approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. The IB sets windows for its own assessment sessions; it does not set your school's term dates.

Does my child need Arabic or Islamic Education support over the break?+

Often yes, and these are the subjects holiday plans forget. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum. They carry school grades, and they are taught in separate classes for Arab and non-Arab groups, with Standard Arabic as the language of instruction for Arabic as a first language and for Islamic Education for Arab students. KHDA also states that different or additional content needs prior permission from the ministry, so a holiday block here works from your school's scheme of work: reading fluency, written register, named vocabulary.

Can a holiday tutor help with an Internal Assessment due in term three?+

Within clear limits. A tutor can teach the skill the task assesses, explain each criterion letter and what its band descriptors demand, question a method until the student finds the flaw, and give feedback on a draft the student has produced. A tutor cannot supply sentences, pick the research question, or hand over data the student did not collect. The student is the author of every sentence. The format that works over a break is short checkpoints: draft in, feedback against criteria, changes made alone, repeat. Any site selling finished assessed work is selling the student a malpractice finding.

Can holiday sessions move to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan?+

Yes, and for Diploma students it is usually the better slot. During Ramadan school days typically shorten and families eat late, so a session at five in the afternoon that worked in January is being taught to a fasting teenager. Post-Iftar, from around nine in the evening Gulf Standard Time, concentration is genuinely available; some families prefer the quiet hour before Suhoor for written practice. Because lessons are on live video, no travel has to be arranged around either window. Tell us which pattern your household actually keeps at booking rather than in week two.

What does a two-week IB holiday intensive cost in the UAE?+

Price the block rather than the hour. Market rates here run roughly AED 45 to 150 for budget online tutoring, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, AED 180 to 500 for an in-home visit with travel included, and AED 200 to 450 or more for an IB specialist, as published by those providers and read in October 2026. Sixteen hours at the specialist mid-band is therefore a four-figure dirham decision. None of those are IB Gram prices; ask for the whole block in writing after a trial lesson instead of multiplying an hourly rate.

Does a tutor working through the holidays need a UAE permit?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and, according to u.ae, is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. u.ae also states that individuals tutoring without a permit face fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no schedule of amounts is published, so none appears here. Ask the tutor directly.

We travel for six weeks in summer, so can lessons follow a different time zone?+

That is the ordinary case for UAE families and it is handled at booking. A block agreed in Gulf Standard Time can be rescheduled to London, Karachi, Nairobi or Toronto hours without changing tutor, because nothing physical has to move. Tell us the dates and the destination while the block is being planned rather than halfway through, so session times are set once and stay set. Families who are away for the whole of July often prefer a four-week block in August with the travel weeks clear, which also keeps the work closer to the start of term.

Is the IGCSE November series a reason to use the summer holiday differently?+

Yes, because the preparation window sits in the summer rather than the spring. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November, and the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. Cambridge also runs a November series, timetabled by administrative zone. A student entered for November revises through July, August and the October half-term, with results arriving the following January: November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Confirm entry deadlines with your school's exams officer, because they fall in the preceding term.

What happens if no specialist is free in the holiday window we want?+

We say so before taking the booking. Holiday weeks are the busiest of the year and the weeks tutors also take leave, so availability is checked against your exact dates before a quote is given. If nobody at the right subject and level is free, the options are a different window, a different session pattern, or a tutor outside the Gulf time zone whose evening is your morning. What we will not do is put a generalist into a Higher Level slot and let you discover the mismatch in session three.

Will holiday tuition help with UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

Indirectly at best, and no tutoring is required for it. For British-curriculum students the published rule is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one Advanced Level subject at E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. American-track applicants show SAT Mathematics of at least 450, and English through IELTS 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or 450 in SAT reading and writing. No verified IB points threshold is published, so confirm the IB route on moe.gov.ae.

How is holiday tuition different from weekly term-time lessons?+

The constraint changes. In term the question is where to find an hour between six Diploma subjects, the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and the mandatory UAE subjects. In a holiday nothing competes, so the block can be frequent, short and cumulative: four fifty-minute sessions a week against one named topic list, with written practice between them. That pattern is impossible in October and ordinary in July. It also means the deliverable has to be decided in advance, because a holiday with no named outcome produces a student who has reread notes and learned nothing new.

Should we use the Eid break for IB tutoring at all?+

Usually for one thing only. Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha are three to five days with family in them, and treating that as a revision window produces resentment and very little learning. Where a session earns its place is a single milestone: the Maths exploration dataset collected, the Extended Essay research question narrowed, a History source list finalised. One session, one deliverable, then stop. If a subject genuinely needs rebuilding, the summer or the December break is the block for it, and the Eid days are better spent not studying.

Pick the break, name the outcome, then book it

The holiday is the only part of a UAE school year where you decide what the week contains. Use it deliberately: one or two subjects, a named topic list taken from your school's own scheme of work, a marked paper to start from, and a written plan with an end date on it. Tell us which break, which subjects and which level, and we will confirm who is free for those exact dates before quoting anything. Lessons run one-to-one on live video in Gulf Standard Time, or in whichever time zone you happen to be in that month. Start with a trial lesson, one per subject, at no charge.
