IB & IGCSE in Dubai Sports City

Start with the syllabus, not the schedule

Most tutoring enquiries from Dubai Sports City begin with logistics. The hour that would suit, the Hessa Street traffic at five, the sibling at Victory Heights Primary who finishes earlier. Those are real constraints, and they get solved. But they are not the reason a Diploma student is three marks short on every Paper 2 response, and solving them first tends to produce a pleasant weekly hour that changes nothing on the transcript.

The IB publishes, for every course, a subject guide that states what is assessed, how it is weighted, and the command terms examiners use. It publishes assessment criteria for the Internal Assessment with letters and mark ceilings attached. Almost no student has read either document. Almost every student who moves from a 4 to a 6 has, by then, read both. A tutor whose first session is a diagnostic against the actual syllabus outline is working from the same map the examiner uses.

That is the shape of IB Gram's work for families here. A first lesson takes the student's most recent school assessment, sorts the lost marks into categories — content not known, content known but not retrieved under time, command term misread, working not shown, units or significant figures dropped — and produces a short list of syllabus sections to rebuild. From that point the weekly hour has a target, and the student can tell you what it is.

Delivery is where expectation and reality part company in the UAE. Parents in Sports City search for a home tutor because that is the familiar phrase and because a villa in Victory Heights has a perfectly good dining table. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; in-home visiting is a service offered only in India. Lessons for Sports City students run live online over video, one to one, with a shared whiteboard and the past paper on screen.

The practical effect is a different tutor pool. Matching by drive time means choosing from whoever is free within twenty minutes of Dubai Sports City on a Tuesday at six. Matching by subject means a Physics HL specialist who has taught Option B, or a Maths AA teacher who has supervised thirty explorations, regardless of which emirate or time zone they sit in. For a Diploma subject at Higher Level, that difference is the whole of the result.

Everything below is written to be used rather than skimmed: what each DP course actually assesses, where the marks go missing, what the market charges in AED, what the Internal Assessment criteria are called, and how to count a term backwards from the written papers. Read the rate table and the in-home comparison together, because the two answer the question the search is really asking: what does the convenience cost, and what does the money buy instead.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Dubai Sports City and the communities around it feed schools running the IB continuum alongside British and American curricula. The three programmes below are the ones that generate tutoring requests from this part of Dubailand, with what each actually demands of a student.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Each subject carries an internally assessed component and two or three written papers. The grade for each subject runs 1 to 7, and the diploma total of 45 includes up to three points from the TOK and Extended Essay matrix. Higher Level courses add both extra syllabus content and an extra paper in most sciences.

Diploma students in Dubai sit the May session, which is the session Dubai schools timetable their mocks and internal deadlines around. Because KHDA also requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies alongside the licensed curriculum, a Sports City DP student is carrying more timetabled subjects than the six on the IB transcript, and revision planning has to account for that.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Five years of interdisciplinary study assessed against four criteria per subject, each marked out of 8 and converted to a 1-7 grade by published boundaries. There are no external papers in most schools until the optional eAssessment at the end of MYP 5. Criterion wording matters more than content recall: a strong answer that ignores the strand the criterion names scores in the middle band.

In the Dubailand communities, MYP students most often need help with the gap between criterion-referenced marking at school and the content density of DP or IGCSE the following year. The usual request from Sports City families is a bridging block in MYP 5, focused on algebraic fluency and written scientific explanation.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led transdisciplinary learning with no external examination, assessed through the Exhibition in the final year. Support at this stage is almost entirely about reading fluency, number sense and written structure rather than examination technique, and sessions are shorter — thirty to forty-five minutes is usually the ceiling for useful concentration.

Primary families around Victory Heights and Motor City typically ask for help after a school report flags reading comprehension or multiplication recall. The honest answer is often a short block of eight sessions rather than a year-long commitment, and that is what gets recommended when a diagnostic supports it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma courses Sports City families ask for most, described by what the assessment actually rewards. The descriptions are deliberately specific: a parent should be able to tell from them whether the problem is content, technique or timing.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Proof, calculus and algebraic manipulation carry the grade. HL adds Paper 3, an extended problem-solving paper where students are led through an unfamiliar investigation. Marks are lost on method lines never written down, on reasoning that jumps from statement to conclusion, and on calculator work presented without the supporting algebra.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and technology-led problem solving. The graphic display calculator is central, and the common failure is treating it as the answer rather than the tool: a regression printed with no interpretation, a hypothesis test run with no conclusion in context. Contextual sentences earn marks in this course that pure computation does not.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics, fields, thermal and nuclear physics, with the HL extension reaching further into induction and quantum phenomena. The reliable mark losses are vector direction, unit conversion before substitution, and explanation questions answered with a formula instead of a causal chain. Paper 1 penalises arithmetic slips that no working can rescue.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Stoichiometry, bonding, energetics, kinetics, equilibrium and organic chemistry, with HL adding depth in each. Organic mechanisms and equilibrium shifts produce the widest spread of marks. Students who can describe Le Chatelier in words often cannot apply it to a specific perturbation, and that gap is diagnosable in one session.

Biology

HL and SL

Cell biology through to ecology and physiology, assessed heavily on data interpretation. The highest-yield work is reading graphs and tables precisely, quoting figures with units, and distinguishing correlation from mechanism. Long-answer questions reward structure: a claim, the evidence, and the biological explanation in that order.

Economics

HL and SL

Microeconomics, macroeconomics and the global economy, with the Internal Assessment built from commentaries on published news articles. Diagrams are where marks are won and lost: axes unlabelled, shifts undrawn, or a correct diagram never referenced in the written evaluation. HL adds quantitative questions and a policy paper.

Business Management

HL and SL

Organisational structure, marketing, operations and finance, with tool-based analysis running through every paper. Candidates lose marks by naming a tool without applying it to the stimulus, and by writing evaluation that lists advantages and disadvantages instead of reaching a judgement supported by the case material.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is unseen textual analysis, Paper 2 a comparative essay on studied works, plus the Individual Oral and, at HL, the essay. The common weakness is feature-spotting: identifying a technique without saying what it does to a reader. Marks follow from linking device, effect and the writer's purpose in a single sentence.

Arabic B

HL and SL

Receptive, productive and interactive skills across five prescribed themes. For non-Arab students in Dubai schools this course sits alongside the KHDA mandatory Arabic requirement, and the two are often confused. Writing tasks are marked on register and text type as much as on vocabulary, so a correct letter in the wrong register loses more than a grammar slip.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

The exhibition of three objects and the prescribed-title essay, contributing with the Extended Essay to three diploma points. Students treat it as unexaminable and then lose points that would have changed a university offer. Support here is structural: choosing a title that can actually be argued, and keeping the essay anchored to knowledge questions.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats are available to Sports City students, all delivered live online. The choice is usually driven by how close the written papers are and whether the problem is content coverage or examination technique.

Weekly one-to-one by subject

A fixed sixty or ninety-minute slot with one specialist for one course at one level. The default for a student who is broadly coping but losing a grade boundary's worth of marks on technique. Progress is tracked against a syllabus checklist rather than against hours logged.

  • Same tutor, same slot, syllabus checklist carried forward each week
  • Homework set from past papers and marked against the published scheme
  • Written note to parents after every session

Internal Assessment and Extended Essay process coaching

Short blocks timed to the school's internal deadlines, focused on research question, methodology, data handling and criterion-by-criterion self-review. The tutor teaches the criteria and gives feedback on the student's own draft. The tutor does not author any part of the submission, and nothing is produced for the student to hand in.

  • Criteria taught by letter, with the mark ceiling for each made explicit
  • Feedback on the student's own work only; no drafting on the student's behalf
  • Timed against the school's internal deadlines, not the exam window

Intensive examination block

Two or three sessions a week in the final run-in, built entirely around timed papers under exam conditions and immediate mark-scheme review. Suitable when content is largely known and the loss is in pacing, question selection or working shown. Blocks are bought short and reviewed, rather than committed to for a term.

  • Full papers sat to time, then marked line by line with the student
  • Question-order and time-allocation strategy per paper
  • Reviewed after four sessions before any extension

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Sports City

01

What an IB home tutor in Dubai Sports City means in practice

  • The keyword describes private tuition, not a promise of a doorstep visit
  • Delivery is live online, one-to-one, in Gulf Standard Time
  • Matching is by course and level, not by proximity to Sports City
  • No specialist free means a stated wait, not a substitute

An IB home tutor in Dubai Sports City, as the search is actually used, means private one-to-one Diploma or Middle Years tuition arranged outside school for a student living in or around the Sports City master plan. IB Gram provides exactly that, delivered live online over video rather than by a visitor to a Dubai address. In-home visiting is a service offered only in India, and no page on this site promises otherwise.

The phrase survives because it describes a category rather than a delivery method. For twenty years, private tuition in Dubai meant someone arriving after work with a folder. That model still exists in Sports City, it has a real market rate, and the section below quotes what the market charges for it. What has changed is that the constraint it was built around — the tutor has to be nearby — has stopped being a constraint, while the price of travel has not.

The consequence matters more at Higher Level than anywhere else. A Sports City cohort may have four students taking Physics HL in a given year. The number of local tutors who have taught the HL extension, rather than general secondary science, is small. Online matching replaces the drive-time filter with a subject filter, and for a student who needs Option B or the astrophysics content, that is the only filter that predicts anything.

What a parent should expect from the arrangement is unglamorous: a fixed slot, a named specialist, a syllabus checklist that gets shorter, and a written note after each session saying what was covered and what was set. If an enquiry cannot be matched to a genuine specialist for that course and level, the honest answer is a wait or a referral, not a general tutor presented as one.

02

The Diploma assessment structure, component by component

Diploma grades are built from a small number of components with fixed weightings, and most students cannot name them. A student who knows that the Internal Assessment is a fifth of the Chemistry grade behaves differently from one who treats it as homework. The table below sets out the pattern across the courses most requested in Sports City; exact weightings are published in each subject guide on the IB's own site and should be checked there for the student's cohort.

Two structural facts do most of the work. First, the internally assessed component is marked at school against published criteria and then moderated, which means it is the one part of the grade a student controls in slow time rather than in two hours under invigilation. Second, Higher Level in the sciences and in Maths AA carries an additional paper, so an HL student is not doing the SL course with extra reading — the examination shape itself differs.

This is why a diagnostic session starts by asking which components a student has actually attempted under timed conditions. It is common to meet a Year 13 student in the Dubailand belt who has written four full Paper 2 essays and never once sat Paper 1 to time. The missing component is almost always the one bleeding marks, and it never appears in a school report as anything other than a grade.

The practical instruction that follows is to build the revision plan component by component rather than subject by subject. A student lists every paper and every internally assessed task across all six subjects, then marks which ones they have attempted to time and which they have only met in class. The unattempted column is the plan. Done in the first Diploma year, it takes an afternoon and removes most of the surprises that otherwise arrive with the mock results.

03

Where Diploma marks actually go missing

  • Command terms: outline, explain, evaluate, justify, deduce, compare and contrast
  • Method lines written on paper, not held in the calculator
  • Units carried through substitution; significant figures left until the final answer
  • Diagrams labelled and then referenced in the written answer
  • Timed single-paper practice, not only full-length mocks

Lost marks fall into a short list of categories, and sorting a student's last marked paper into them takes one session. Content genuinely not known is the smallest category in most cases. The larger ones are retrieval under time pressure, command terms misread, working not written down, and answers that are correct but unsupported.

Command terms are the cheapest fix available. The IB defines them, and the definitions are enforced in marking. A question that says 'outline' wants a brief account and will not pay for three paragraphs. 'Explain' requires reasons or causes, so a correct description scores nothing. 'Evaluate' requires a judgement, and an answer that balances advantages against disadvantages and stops short of deciding has not completed the task. Students who learn the fifteen or so terms that recur in their courses pick up marks within weeks.

The second cheap fix is arithmetic and presentation discipline in the sciences and maths. Units dropped before substitution, significant figures rounded early, vectors treated as scalars, and method lines left in a calculator rather than on paper. Each of these is worth one or two marks per paper, and across six subjects that is a grade boundary.

The expensive problems are different in kind: a topic never properly taught, a gap carried forward from MYP or IGCSE, or a student who has stopped believing the subject is learnable. Those need sequencing rather than technique work, and they need to be identified early enough in the first Diploma year to be rebuilt rather than patched.

04

What IB tuition costs around Dubai Sports City, in AED

Begin with the monthly figure, because that is what a family actually budgets. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai rate table puts weekly one-hour tutoring at roughly AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Packages advertised in this market include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits.

Converted to an hourly view, the published bands are wide. EdFlik advertises online tuition from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, both at the university-student end. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. TutorChase quotes AED 270. BartyED sits at AED 650 for premium named tutors. Bestimate's in-home band runs AED 180 to 350, with independent home tutors quoted between AED 200 and 500 once travel is priced in.

Those figures are the market, published by the providers named, and they are not IB Gram's price list. The point of printing them is that three of the six best-ranking pages for these searches publish no price at all, and the two that do quote US dollars, which is not the currency a Sports City family transacts in. A parent should be able to see the bands before any conversation about fees.

The structural reading is simple: the in-home premium is a travel charge, not a teaching charge. Comparing the AED 150 to 300 qualified-online band with the AED 180 to 500 in-home band, the difference buys a car journey. At Higher Level, the same money spent on specialist selection rather than on proximity buys a tutor who has taught the component the student is failing.

Home visits in Sports City against live online lessons

This is the comparison the search deserves, and it is better made with numbers than with adjectives. A home visit in Sports City costs the published in-home band, takes a tutor out of circulation for the journey each way, and limits the pool to people who live or work within a reasonable drive on that specific evening. An online lesson costs the online band, starts on the minute, and draws from a pool defined by subject rather than geography.

Hessa Street and the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed interchange decide the practical timing. A tutor crossing from Al Barsha or Jumeirah at six in the evening is budgeting forty minutes each way, and that time is in the fee whether it is itemised or not. Families in Remraam and Dubailand Residence see the effect more sharply still, because the second journey of the day lands on the student rather than the tutor.

There are genuine advantages to a person in the room, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest. A young primary student is easier to keep on task in person. A practical skill demonstrated on real apparatus is not identical to one demonstrated on screen. For Diploma students working on past papers, the balance tips the other way: the shared screen is a better surface for annotating a mark scheme than a dining table, and the session recording can be rewatched before a mock.

IB Gram's position is stated plainly rather than hedged. No tutor is sent to a UAE address. Lessons for Sports City students are live, one-to-one and online, and the argument for that model is in the table below rather than in a promise nobody should make.

The Internal Assessment, criterion by criterion

  • Criteria are named and capped; find the mark ceiling for each before drafting
  • Around half the marks are for process and communication, not results
  • The tutor teaches criteria and reviews the student's own draft only
  • Work the student did not produce is malpractice, not an advantage
  • Agree the research question a term early so a failed data run is survivable

Every Diploma subject has an internally assessed component, and every one of them is marked against named criteria with a published mark ceiling for each. Students routinely submit work that is strong on one criterion and empty on another, which is the single most avoidable loss in the Diploma. No competitor page in this market names a single criterion, which tells you how rarely it is explained to families.

The sciences use a small set of criteria covering research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. The mathematical exploration is marked on presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics. The pattern is consistent: roughly half the available marks are for process and communication rather than for the result. A student who produces a competent experiment and writes two sentences of evaluation has left marks on the table that no amount of extra data would recover.

Process coaching, done properly, is criterion teaching. The tutor explains what each criterion rewards, the student self-marks their own draft against it, and the tutor gives feedback on what the student has written. The boundary is firm and it is an IB rule rather than a house style: a tutor may teach, question and review, and may not write, complete or produce any part of assessed work. An exploration drafted by somebody else is a malpractice finding against the student, not a shortcut.

Timing is the other half of it. Internal deadlines are set by the school, usually well before the examination window, and they are the dates a Sports City family should have on the fridge. A research question agreed in the first term leaves room for data collection to fail once and be redone. A research question agreed three weeks before submission does not.

07

Counting a term backwards from the written papers

Revision plans fail because they are counted forwards from today. Counted backwards from the papers, the same calendar gives different instructions. Dubai Diploma students sit the May session, and because IB session and results dates are not published in a form this page can verify, the only honest advice is to confirm every IB date with the school's Diploma coordinator and against ibo.org before acting on it.

For the Cambridge and Pearson qualifications that sit alongside the Diploma in many Sports City households, the dates are sourced and usable. Cambridge International runs IGCSE and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February/March series is offered to India only, so a UAE candidate plans around June and November and nothing else. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct zone timetable; it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who misses an examination after reading the wrong one.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. For the most recent completed cycles: the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, which is why a school should always work from the live official timetable rather than from a restated date.

The planning consequence is the part worth acting on. Entry deadlines sit months before papers, mock windows sit a term before, and internal coursework deadlines sit before that again. Working backwards, an exam-year student in Sports City should have finished Internal Assessment drafting before the mock window opens, because the fortnight those two collide in is the one that produces the panicked February enquiry.

KHDA, the mandatory subjects, and what a school report leaves out

Dubai's private schools are regulated by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain sit under ADEK, Sharjah under the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah under its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah under the federal Ministry of Education. A Sports City parent reading an inspection report is reading a KHDA document, and the six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak is a judgement about the school, not about a cohort or a subject.

The market context is worth stating because it explains why Diploma cohorts here are small. KHDA reported 387,441 students across 227 private schools in Dubai in 2024-25, offering 17 curricula, with the UK curriculum the largest by enrolment, Indian second, American third and the IB accounting for 7% of pupils. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three IB, creating 16,846 new places, after six schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%. KHDA also confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees for the 2026-27 academic year under Dubai's second economic incentives package.

Alongside the licensed curriculum, KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools, with requirements to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes for both groups are prohibited because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, with the advice that any mandatory-subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes. Using different or additional content for these subjects without prior Ministry permission is prohibited.

What that means for a tutoring plan is practical. A Diploma student in Sports City is timetabled for more than six subjects, so the hours available for revision are fewer than the IB transcript suggests. And a school report that gives a grade and a comment does not say which component produced the grade. That is the question a diagnostic answers, and it is the reason the first session is spent reading the student's marked paper rather than the report.

09

Permits, honesty and what to ask before you book anyone

  • MoHRE private tuition permit: free, two years, Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023
  • No published fine schedule, so treat any quoted amount as unverified
  • IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, MoE, IB or Cambridge accreditation and claims none
  • Ask which course and level the tutor has taught, not how many years in total
  • Ask what the tutor will refuse to do with assessed work

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is open to teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service page, 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a MoHRE permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so any figure circulating online should be treated as unverified. A separate point applies in Abu Dhabi, where ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff have been reported as prohibiting teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school; the permit's code of conduct is reported to bar the same thing. That is press-reported rather than quoted from the policy document, and it should be verified against the current ADEK text before being relied on.

A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal from an individual tutor, and needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute. IB Gram holds no such permit, holds no regulator or examination-board accreditation, and claims none. It is an independent matching platform; the regulators named on this page are described because parents need to know who does what, not because any of them endorses this service.

The questions worth asking any provider in Sports City are short. Which course and which level has this tutor actually taught, and for how long? Does the tutor hold a MoHRE private tuition permit? Is the quoted rate per hour or per session, and does it include VAT? What happens after one lesson if the match is wrong? And, the one most providers dodge: what exactly will the tutor do with an Internal Assessment, and what will they refuse to do?

Where we tutor

Communities we support around Dubai Sports City

Sports City sits in the Dubailand belt off Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and Hessa Street, surrounded by villa and townhouse communities whose school runs overlap. Session timing is set by that overlap rather than by distance, since lessons are online.

Dubai Sports City

Apartment towers and the Victory Heights villas, with schools inside the community itself. Most students are home by 3.30pm, so a 4pm start is realistic here where it is not in communities with longer bus routes.

Motor City

Immediately north across Hessa Street, sharing bus routes and after-school clubs with Sports City. Families here often ask for a later slot because sports fixtures and swim squads run to 6pm on weekdays.

Victory Heights

Low-density villas inside the Sports City master plan, served by a primary school on the doorstep. Demand skews to IGCSE and DP support for students who commute out to Al Barsha and Jumeirah for secondary.

Arabian Ranches

A short drive south-west, feeding a long-established British and IB school cluster. Diploma requests from Ranches families cluster around Maths AA and the sciences at Higher Level.

DAMAC Hills

South along Umm Suqeim Street extension, with a British-curriculum school inside the community. Bus journeys are longer, so Diploma students here usually take a 5.30pm or later online slot.

Town Square and Mudon

Newer, younger communities where primary and lower-secondary requests dominate. Parents here tend to book shorter blocks aimed at a specific reported weakness rather than year-long weekly tuition.

Remraam and Dubailand Residence

Further out along the Dubai-Al Ain corridor, with school commutes that can pass an hour each way. Online delivery removes the second journey entirely, which is often the deciding factor.

Dubai Hills Estate

North-east of Sports City with its own growing school cluster. Requests here lean towards Higher Level sciences and Extended Essay process support in the second Diploma year.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai Sports City

Dubai Sports City, Motor City and Victory Heights

Schools inside or minutes from the Sports City master plan. Between them they run IB Diploma, British and American curricula, which is why a single household can be sitting MYP criteria and IGCSE papers in the same year.

  • Bradenton Preparatory Academy, Dubai Sports City
  • GEMS United School, Dubai Sports City
  • Victory Heights Primary School
  • GEMS Metropole School, Motor City
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Dubai Heights Academy

Arabian Ranches, DAMAC Hills and the wider Dubailand belt

The secondary destinations for many Sports City families, reached by bus along Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. Diploma cohorts here are small, which is exactly why a student short of a specialist in one Higher Level subject cannot always find one locally.

  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Arabian Ranches
  • Ranches Primary School
  • Jebel Ali School, DAMAC Hills
  • The Aquila School, Dubailand
  • South View School
  • Fairgreen International School

Schools are named to describe the curriculum mix around Dubai Sports City; no affiliation, endorsement or relationship with any named school or group is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the course, the level and the last mark

A short enquiry naming the subject, whether it is Higher or Standard Level, the school, and the most recent assessment result. The marked paper itself is more useful than the report. That is enough to decide whether a specialist is available for that exact course and level.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson with the proposed specialist

A full online session with the tutor who would teach the block, not a sales call with a coordinator. The tutor works through the student's own marked paper and sorts the lost marks by cause. Parents receive a written summary afterwards with the syllabus sections to rebuild.

  3. 03

Agree a plan with a target, not a term

Sessions are booked in short blocks against a named objective: Paper 1 timing, organic mechanisms, the exploration's research question. A block with a target can be judged. A standing weekly hour with no target tends to continue regardless of whether it is working.

  4. 04

    Weekly work with marked homework

Each session ends with past-paper work set and marked against the published scheme before the next one. The syllabus checklist is updated, and the written note to parents says what was covered and what was set rather than reporting that the session went well.

  5. 05

Review after four sessions and change if needed

At the four-session mark the plan is reviewed against the target. If the marks have not moved, the usual answers are a different diagnosis, a different tutor, or a different number of sessions. Changing the match costs nothing and happens more often than most providers admit.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched by course and level

A request for Chemistry HL is matched to a Chemistry HL teacher, not to a science graduate. Where no specialist is free for that course and level, the answer is a stated wait or a referral elsewhere, because a general tutor presented as a specialist wastes a term that an exam student does not have.

Prices quoted as the market, with sources

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the provider or rate table that published it, with the month it was read. Three of the best-ranking pages for these searches publish no price at all. A parent in Sports City should see the bands before the conversation, not after.

A firm line on assessed work

Tutors teach criteria, question method and give feedback on the student's own drafts. They do not write, complete or produce any part of an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, TOK essay or coursework. Pages in this market sell completed assessments; that is a malpractice finding waiting to land on the student.

Delivery stated plainly

Lessons for UAE families are live, one-to-one and online, in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE, and home visiting is offered only in India. The format is on the page rather than discovered after a deposit.

Sources a parent can check

Regulatory statements on this page come from u.ae, KHDA and MoHRE publications, and examination dates from Cambridge and Pearson. IB session dates are not published here because they could not be verified from the IB directly, and inventing one would be worse than omitting it.

Short blocks with a target

Work is sold in reviewable blocks tied to a named objective and reviewed after four sessions. The alternative — an open-ended weekly hour nobody evaluates — is how families end up paying for a year of pleasant conversation that the June or May results do not reflect.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Sports City: your questions answered

Can I get an IB home tutor in Dubai Sports City who comes to the villa?+

Not through IB Gram. Lessons for every UAE family are delivered live online, one to one, over video in Gulf Standard Time, and in-home visiting is a service offered only in India. Independent tutors in Sports City do visit homes, and published market rates for in-home one-to-one sessions run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour once travel is priced in, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor. The premium buys a car journey rather than better teaching, which is why the online model is the one offered here.

Which IB subjects do Sports City families most often ask for?+

Mathematics at both Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation, Chemistry, Physics and Biology at Higher Level, Economics, and English A Language and Literature. Requests concentrate in the second Diploma year, when Internal Assessment deadlines and mock examinations land in the same term. The subject pattern reflects university intentions: students aiming at engineering and medicine carry two or three Higher Level sciences, and those are the courses where a local tutor pool of general science teachers stops being sufficient.

How does a first online session with a Diploma student actually run?+

The student brings their most recent marked school assessment. The tutor works through it on a shared screen, sorting lost marks into categories: content not known, content known but not retrieved under time, command term misread, working not shown, units or significant figures dropped. By the end there is a short list of syllabus sections to rebuild and one piece of past-paper work set. Parents get a written summary. It is a diagnostic rather than a sales call, and it is free before any block is booked.

What is the difference between IB Maths Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation?+

Analysis and Approaches is the algebraic and calculus route, with proof and manipulation carrying the grade and a non-calculator Paper 1. Applications and Interpretation is modelling and statistics led, with the graphic display calculator permitted throughout and marks attached to interpreting results in context. Neither is the easy one. Some degree courses in engineering, mathematics and physics expect the Analysis route, so the choice should be checked against the admissions pages of the specific universities a student is considering before it is made on comfort.

Can a tutor help with my child's IB Internal Assessment?+

A tutor can teach the assessment criteria, explain the mark ceiling attached to each, question the research design, discuss whether the data supports the conclusion, and give feedback on what the student has written. A tutor cannot write, complete or produce any part of it. That boundary is an IB academic-honesty rule, and work a student did not produce becomes a malpractice finding against the student. Pages in this market sell finished Internal Assessments; treating that as a service rather than a risk is how candidates lose a diploma.

How many sessions a week does a Sports City Diploma student usually need?+

One per subject per week is the common starting point, which is why a student needing two subjects ends up with two tutors rather than one longer session. In the run-in to written papers that often rises to two or three sessions a week in a single subject, built entirely around timed papers and mark-scheme review. The number should follow a diagnosis rather than a package. Where one targeted block of eight sessions will do, booking a year is a waste of money.

Is a private tutor working in Dubai Sports City required to hold a MoHRE permit?+

Yes. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Applications go through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system under the service 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing'. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published, so quoted amounts should be treated as unverified.

Which Cambridge exam series do UAE students sit?+

June and November. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in those two series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February/March series is offered to India only, so a UAE candidate should never plan around it. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that using the correct zone timetable is essential; it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who misses an examination after working from the wrong version.

Does the IB Diploma work for admission to UAE universities?+

The Ministry of Education operates an equivalency process for secondary certificates, and it is the Ministry rather than any tutoring provider that decides an outcome. For the British track the published requirements are five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic Education excluded from that count, plus one A Level at grade E or two AS Levels at the same grade. No verified IB points threshold is published here, so an IB family should confirm the current requirement on moe.gov.ae or with the attestation authority directly.

My child is in MYP 5 and moving to the Diploma. What is worth doing now?+

Algebraic fluency and written scientific explanation, in that order. MYP marks four criteria out of eight each and converts them to a 1-7 grade, so a student can hold a solid grade while leaving one criterion consistently weak. The Diploma then prices that weakness in content terms. A bridging block in the final MYP year, aimed at manipulation without a calculator and at structured explanation answers, removes most of the first-term shock reported by Dubailand families each September.

Should a Diploma student in Sports City keep tutoring running through Ramadan?+

Yes, and for Diploma students it is usually the better arrangement. School days shorten during Ramadan and concentration in the late afternoon drops, so a session placed after Iftar generally produces more work than the same hour at four o'clock. Because lessons are online, moving a slot needs no journey to be rearranged on either side. Families in Sports City and Motor City often use the period for Internal Assessment process work rather than timed papers, which suits a shorter and more variable day.

What happens if no specialist is free for a Higher Level subject in Dubai Sports City?+

You are told, with a realistic wait, or referred elsewhere. The alternative practice in this market is to supply a general subject tutor and describe them as a specialist, which costs an exam-year student a term they cannot recover. Availability is tightest in Higher Level Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics Analysis and Approaches during the second Diploma year, because that is when demand across every Dubai cohort peaks at once. Booking ahead of the mock window rather than after it is the practical fix.

Are Arabic and Islamic Education compulsory for an IB student in Dubai?+

Yes. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum. Schools must run separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes for the two groups are prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit. For revision planning this matters: a Diploma student is timetabled for more than the six IB subjects.

How do I tell whether tutoring is working?+

By marks on timed papers, not by how the sessions feel. Set a measurable target at the start of a block — a Paper 1 score, a reduction in method marks lost, an Internal Assessment criterion self-marked accurately — and review it after four sessions. If the target has not moved, the diagnosis, the tutor or the session count is wrong, and all three are changeable. A provider who cannot tell you what the current block is trying to move is not measuring anything either.

Is a free trial lesson genuinely free in Sports City?+

The trial lesson is a full one-to-one online session with the tutor proposed for the block, with no card required and no obligation to continue. The condition worth stating is that it is one session per subject, and it is a teaching session rather than an assessment sold separately afterwards. If the match is wrong, the next step is a different tutor rather than a refund conversation, and changing a match early is normal rather than awkward.

Start with the marked paper, not the timetable

If you are looking for an IB home tutor in Dubai Sports City, the fastest useful step is to send the course, the level and your child's most recent marked assessment. That is enough to say honestly whether a specialist in that exact course and level is free, and what the first block should try to move. The trial lesson is a real teaching session with the tutor who would do the work, delivered live online in Gulf Standard Time, and it ends with a written list of syllabus sections to rebuild. If no specialist is available, you will be told that instead of being matched to a general tutor.
