IGCSE Tutor near me in Dubai Sports City

An IGCSE tutor near me in Dubai Sports City is, for most families, a search for someone who knows the paper rather than someone who lives nearby. This page is built on the syllabuses themselves: what Cambridge 0580, 0620, 0625 and 0610 actually ask, where the mark scheme refuses to pay, and how to use five years of past papers. IB Gram teaches Sports City students live online, one to one, in Gulf Standard Time.

  • Matched to the syllabus code the student is entered for
  • Mark schemes read with the student, not summarised at them
  • Live one-to-one online lessons in Gulf Standard Time
  • Trial lesson built on the student's own marked paper

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Sports City

What a syllabus-literate tutor does differently

There is a particular kind of tutoring session that feels productive and changes nothing. The tutor explains a topic clearly, the student follows, both leave satisfied, and the next paper comes back at the same mark. It happens because the session addressed the subject rather than the assessment, and at IGCSE those are different things. The subject is chemistry. The assessment is Cambridge 0620 Extended, which asks for chemistry in a specific set of forms and pays for it against a published scheme.

A syllabus-literate tutor starts from the specification. Every Cambridge and Pearson syllabus publishes its content list, its assessment objectives and its paper structure, and every past paper comes with a mark scheme that states what earns a mark and what does not. Read together, those documents answer most of the questions a parent in Dubai Sports City is actually asking: why a bright student keeps scoring in the middle, and what would have to change.

The answer is usually mechanical. Across a full IGCSE paper, a student who loses a single mark per question to presentation habits loses more than one who does not understand a whole topic. Working held in a calculator instead of written down. A rounded intermediate value carried into the next step. A unit omitted from a final answer. An ionic equation without charges balanced. 'Describe' answered with an explanation, or 'explain' answered with a description. None of those is a knowledge problem, and all of them are teachable in weeks.

IB Gram delivers all UAE tuition live, one to one and online over video in Gulf Standard Time. No tutor is sent to a Sports City address, and in-home visiting is a service offered only in India. The practical gain is that a student entered for a specific code can be matched to someone who has taught that code, instead of to the nearest available subject graduate — and for a Year 11 student eight weeks out, that distinction decides whether the block recovers marks or revisits content.

The speed matters too. Because matching does not depend on who can reach Victory Heights on a Tuesday evening, a specialist can usually be proposed within a day and a trial lesson held the same week. Families searching after a mock result are spending calendar they cannot get back, and the days lost to arranging a visit come straight off the block.

Everything below is organised by syllabus: what each paper asks, where the marks go, the nine habits that cost one mark at a time, and a past-paper routine that uses five years of material properly rather than working through them front to back until the term ends. The habits table is the one to read with a marked script in hand, because counting the categories on your own child's paper tells you in ten minutes what a term of lessons would otherwise reveal slowly.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three stages produce IGCSE enquiries from this part of Dubailand, and the syllabus work differs at each. The content list is the same document in all three cases; what changes is how much time there is to use it.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Two years per subject, examined by written papers, with most students entered for eight to ten subjects. Cambridge grades A* to G or 9 to 1 by syllabus; Pearson International GCSE uses 9 to 1. Several Cambridge syllabuses are tiered into Core and Extended with different papers and a different grade ceiling, which makes the code and the tier the two facts a tutor needs before anything else.

UAE candidates are entered for the June and November series only. Cambridge offers the February/March series to India alone, so any revision schedule a Sports City family finds that references a February window belongs to a different country's calendar and should be discarded.

LSECAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Lower Secondary and Checkpoint

The years in which algebraic manipulation, scientific explanation and extended writing are built, assessed internally and in many schools through Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests, which run in March, May and October. A student who leaves Year 9 unable to rearrange a formula meets that gap again in mathematics, physics and chemistry simultaneously.

Enquiries at this stage from Town Square, Mudon and Remraam are usually prompted by a Year 9 report. The high-value work is narrow: rearrangement, ratio, standard form and writing a cause-and-effect sentence. Six to eight sessions is often the whole intervention.

ASAges 15-16 · Year 11 into Year 12

Additional Mathematics and the step to 16-plus

Cambridge 0606 sits alongside 0580 for students heading towards A Level or Higher Level mathematics, and covers calculus, functions and trigonometry at a level closer to AS. It is the single best preparation for the jump at 16, and it is also the course where the gap between a comfortable 0580 Extended student and a struggling one becomes visible.

Requests for 0606 from Sports City and Arabian Ranches concentrate in the second half of Year 11, often after a student has been advised to take it and found the first topics harder than expected. A short block on differentiation and function notation usually settles it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each entry below names the syllabus code and the specific place marks are lost on that paper. The codes are what appear on a school's subject information sheet and at the top of every past paper, and they are worth checking before any tutoring is booked.

Mathematics — Cambridge 0580

Core and Extended

Number, algebra, coordinate geometry, mensuration, trigonometry, vectors, probability and statistics. Extended reaches further into algebraic fractions, functions and advanced trigonometry. Marks go missing in unwritten method, premature rounding carried through a multi-step answer, and solutions given without units or without the context the question asked for.

Additional Mathematics — Cambridge 0606

Single tier

Functions, calculus, series, trigonometric identities and vectors at a level approaching AS. Differentiation of composite functions and the use of correct notation are where the spread opens. Students who treat it as harder 0580 rather than as a different course lose marks to presentation conventions they have never been taught.

Chemistry — Cambridge 0620

Core and Extended

Particles, atoms and bonding, stoichiometry, acids and bases, the periodic table, electrochemistry, energetics, organic chemistry and chemical analysis. Three calculation types carry most of the available marks: moles from mass, moles from concentration and volume, and percentage yield or purity. Setting the calculation out is where the method marks are.

Physics — Cambridge 0625

Core and Extended

Motion, forces and energy, thermal physics, waves, electricity and magnetism, nuclear physics and space physics. Reliable losses are unit conversion before substitution, direction dropped from a vector quantity, and explanation questions answered by quoting a formula when the scheme wants a causal chain in words.

Biology — Cambridge 0610

Core and Extended

Cells, movement into and out of cells, biological molecules, enzymes, nutrition, transport, respiration, coordination, reproduction, inheritance and ecology. The paper rewards precise terminology and penalises near-misses: osmosis described without a partially permeable membrane, or diffusion described without a concentration gradient.

Combined and Coordinated Science — Cambridge 0653 and 0654

Core and Extended

The two-award and double-award routes for students not entered for three separate sciences. Papers mix disciplines, so revision organised by science rather than by paper leaves a student unprepared for the order in which questions arrive. Progression to an A Level or Higher Level science from this route should be checked with the receiving school.

English Language — Cambridge 0500 and 0990

First Language

Reading response, summary and directed writing. Form, audience and register carry marks independently of content, so a well-written article where a letter was specified loses more than a plainer letter. Summary questions reward selection and compression, and are the component most often lost to writing too much.

English Literature — Cambridge 0475 and 0992

Single tier

Set texts, passage-based questions and extended essays. The most common failure is narrating the plot instead of analysing the writing. A single quoted phrase with a comment on its effect earns more than a paragraph of accurate summary, and that trade is the whole technique.

Business Studies and Economics — Cambridge 0450 and 0455

Single tier

Case-study papers requiring application to the business or economy given in the stimulus. Definitions earn a fraction of what applied analysis earns, and Economics diagrams lose marks mostly through unlabelled axes and shifts that are drawn but never referred to in the written answer.

Computer Science — Cambridge 0478

Single tier

Data representation, hardware, networks, security, algorithms and programming. Pseudocode answers are marked on logic rather than on the syntax of any one language, which students who have only written in Python routinely misread. Trace tables are a technique worth two sessions and recur every series.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

The three formats below differ in what they do with past papers, which at IGCSE is the variable that matters most. All run live online, one to one.

Syllabus rebuild by content list

The specification's content list is used as a checklist and worked through in order of dependency rather than in the order the school taught it. Suitable from Year 10 and for any student whose mock revealed absent rather than weak topics. Slower than technique work and the only thing that fixes a foundation.

  • Content list ticked off against evidence, not against coverage
  • Dependencies taught first: rearrangement before kinematics, moles before electrolysis
  • Checklist shared with parents and updated weekly

Mark-scheme drill

Questions by topic, answered under time, then marked by the student against the official scheme with the tutor asking why each mark was awarded or withheld. The fastest format for a student whose knowledge is better than their score, which describes most Year 11 enquiries from this belt.

  • Student marks their own work against the published scheme
  • Every withheld mark named and explained
  • Habits tracked across weeks so repeats become visible

Full-paper rotation before the series

Whole papers sat to time on a rotation across the five most recent years, marked immediately, with the recurring errors logged. Used in the final weeks when the question is which marks remain recoverable rather than which topics remain uncovered.

  • Papers rotated so no two consecutive weeks repeat a question style
  • Error log kept and reviewed rather than restarted each week
  • Explicit decisions about content that will not be revisited

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Sports City

01

What this search returns, and what IB Gram actually provides

  • Delivery is live, online and one-to-one; no UAE home visits
  • Matching is by syllabus code and tier, not by subject name
  • Content overlaps between boards; question styles do not
  • No specialist available means a stated wait, not a substitution

An IGCSE tutor near me in Dubai Sports City returns a mixture of visiting tutors, agencies, tuition centres and platforms. IB Gram sits in the last category and is explicit about it: one-to-one teaching in a named Cambridge or Pearson syllabus, delivered live online over video in Gulf Standard Time. No tutor is sent to a Sports City address. In-home visiting is a service offered only in India.

The reason the distinction is drawn in the first paragraph rather than buried is that several providers competing for this phrase leave delivery ambiguous until a deposit is paid. Some route UAE parents to numbers in other countries while implying a local presence. Stating the format and the limits on the page is a lower-friction way of doing business and it removes the conversation that otherwise happens at the worst moment.

What the online format buys at IGCSE specifically is code-level matching. A student entered for Cambridge 0620 Extended needs a tutor who has taught 0620 Extended and marked its papers, not a chemistry graduate who last saw a Dubai school syllabus some years ago. The content overlap between boards is large; the question styles, tiering rules and practical arrangements are not. A mismatch there produces correct teaching and no change in the mark.

The arrangement is plain: a fixed weekly slot, one named tutor per syllabus, past-paper work set and marked against the published scheme, a topic checklist shared with parents, and a written note after each session. Where no specialist is free for a code, the answer is a stated wait or a referral. A general tutor placed into a Year 11 exam block is a cost disguised as a solution.

02

The four science and maths syllabuses, and where each one bleeds marks

Four codes account for most of the enquiry volume from this part of Dubai: 0580 mathematics, 0620 chemistry, 0625 physics and 0610 biology. Each has a characteristic failure mode, and a tutor who knows it can usually identify a student's position from a single marked paper rather than from a term of observation.

In 0580 the characteristic loss is method. The answer is often right and the marks are not available because nothing was written down, or because an intermediate value was rounded and carried forward. In 0620 it is calculation layout: moles from mass, moles from concentration and volume, and yield or purity are the three types that recur, and the scheme pays for the structure of the working as much as for the number at the end.

In 0625 it is unit and direction discipline, plus explanation questions answered with algebra. A question that says 'explain why the lamp becomes dimmer' is asking for a chain — resistance rises, current falls, power falls — and a correct formula earns nothing. In 0610 it is terminology precision, because the scheme accepts specific words and rejects near-synonyms, which is why biology feels arbitrary to students who have never read a mark scheme.

The table below sets this out by code. It is written as a diagnostic aid: a parent can hold their child's last paper against it and recognise the pattern before any tutor is involved. Content lists, paper structures and tiering details should be read from the current official specification, which is published by the board and changes between cohorts.

03

Nine habits that each cost one mark at a time

The largest single category of recoverable marks on an IGCSE paper is not a topic. It is a set of habits, each worth one or two marks, repeated across every question in every subject. Because each instance is small, none of them appears in a school report, and because they appear everywhere, together they are frequently worth a grade boundary across a full entry of eight or nine subjects.

They are also the fastest thing to fix, which is why a good first block targets them before content. Three to four weeks of deliberate practice changes a habit. Three to four weeks does not teach a missing term's worth of organic chemistry. A family with eight weeks and a mixed problem should spend the first half on habits and the second half on the two most examinable missing topics.

The list below is drawn from mark-scheme wording rather than from general advice, and each item corresponds to a specific reason a scheme withholds a mark. The useful exercise is to take a marked paper and count how many lost marks fall into each row, because the count decides the order of work rather than the teacher's instinct.

What makes this teachable online is that it is entirely visible on a shared screen. The student writes, the tutor reads the working as it appears, and the moment a line is skipped it can be stopped and named. That is harder to do across a table than it sounds, and it is the one activity where the screen is a genuinely better surface than paper.

04

A past-paper routine that uses five years properly

  • Five recent years is the working set, not every paper ever published
  • Three modes: by topic, by paper to time, and re-attempting what was lost
  • The student marks their own work against the official scheme
  • One-line error log per lost mark, with the category and the fix
  • Re-attempt at two to three weeks, which is the step most students skip

Most students use past papers badly, and the pattern is identical everywhere: start with the oldest paper, work forwards, mark it roughly, feel vaguely encouraged, repeat. By the end of term they have attempted eight papers and learned almost nothing transferable, because nothing was logged and nothing was repeated at the right interval.

The working set is about five recent years, and it should be used in three modes rather than one. Mode one is by topic: pull every question on electrolysis from five years and do them consecutively, which shows how narrow the question variation actually is. Mode two is by paper, to time, to build pacing and question-order decisions. Mode three is re-attempting the questions previously lost, two or three weeks later, which is the mode almost nobody uses and the one that produces durable change.

Marking is where the value sits. The student should mark their own work against the official scheme with the tutor present, saying out loud why each mark was awarded or withheld. That exercise teaches the examiner's logic, which is the thing being examined. Having work marked silently by someone else teaches nothing except the score.

An error log makes the whole routine compound. One line per lost mark: the paper, the question, the category from the habits table, and the fix. After four weeks the log shows that three categories account for most of the losses, and the revision plan writes itself. Sports City families can run this with no tutor at all; what a tutor adds is the marking judgement and the discipline of re-attempting.

05

Practical science when the lessons are on a screen

Parents reasonably ask how practical science works if tuition is online. The answer separates two things. The laboratory itself is the school's job and cannot be replaced: handling apparatus, following a method under supervision, and seeing a reaction behave unexpectedly are school experiences. What is examined, though, is largely the written skill around practical work, and that is teachable on screen using real past-paper data.

Cambridge sciences carry a practical component with an alternative-to-practical route, and the question style on that paper is distinctive. It asks which variable should be controlled and why, which apparatus is appropriate and to what precision, how to tabulate results with units in the heading, how to identify an anomalous point, and what is wrong with a method as described. Each of those is a technique with a correct form that can be drilled.

Pearson handles the same skills within its own paper structure, which is one more reason the code matters. A student drilled on one board's practical question style and entered for the other will recognise the science and misread the task, and in a mock report that looks like carelessness rather than mismatch.

The honest division of labour is worth stating to a Year 10 student directly: the school supplies the bench, the tutor supplies the written technique, and the marks for practical work are awarded for the second of those. Students who believe practical marks reward being good with apparatus are often surprised by how much of the paper is about tables and anomalies.

06

What the money buys, band by band

The most useful way to read tutoring rates is to ask what each band actually does, rather than to sort them by price. At the bottom, Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. That band buys supervision and company: homework completed, a Year 8 student kept moving, questions answered. It does not buy mark-scheme judgement, and a Year 11 Extended paper is a mark-scheme problem.

The working band is qualified subject teaching delivered online, where Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. That is the money that buys someone who can read a marked paper and name the pattern. Above it, specialist rates run AED 200 to 450 and beyond — TutorChase quotes AED 270, Bestimate puts specialists at AED 200 to 450 or more — which buys code-level familiarity and tiering judgement.

In-home visiting is published at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and AED 200 to 500 by independent home tutors once travel is counted, and the premium over the online band is a journey. The premium end of the market reaches AED 650, which is BartyED's published figure for named tutors, and it buys scarcity rather than a different kind of teaching. Monthly packages advertised in this market include around AED 799 for eight online sessions.

Every figure here is published by the provider named and was read in October 2026. None is IB Gram's price list. They appear because most pages ranking for this search publish no price, and the two that do quote US dollars, which is not what a Sports City family pays in. The practical conclusion is that the gap between the budget band and the working band buys judgement, and the gap between online and in-home buys transport.

Entries, tiers and the June series

  • UAE candidates sit June and November; February/March is India-only
  • Cambridge centres sit in one of six zones with separate timetables
  • Pearson runs May/June and November, with provisional timetables published early
  • Ask which tier, what it caps, and when entries close

Two administrative facts shape every IGCSE revision plan in Dubai, and both sit with the school rather than the family. The first is the entry itself: which board, which syllabus code, and which tier. The second is the entry deadline, which closes months before the papers and after which the tier is fixed for that series.

Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February/March series is offered to India only, so a UAE candidate works to June with November as the resit route. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, states that using the correct zone timetable is essential, and says it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong version.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. In the most recent completed cycles, the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so the live official timetable is the only version worth planning against.

The practical instruction for a Sports City family is to find out two dates and one entry. When do the school's entries close, which tier has the student been entered for, and what grade does that tier cap? A tiering conversation held before the deadline is a decision. Held afterwards it is a complaint, and the grade ceiling stands for that series regardless of how the revision goes.

08

The regulator, the mandatory subjects and honest limits

A near-me search run from Dubai Sports City returns tutors advertising out of Sharjah, Ajman and Abu Dhabi, so it helps to know that the school regulator changes with the emirate even when the drive does not feel like a border. Your own school is overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain sit with ADEK, Sharjah with the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah with its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah with the federal Ministry of Education. The powers differ as well as the names: in Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah the authority approves fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. A tutor citing a regulator relationship in one emirate has told you nothing about a school in another.

KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with requirements to be implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year, and requires that teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold the appropriate KHDA approval for those subjects. Using different or additional content for the mandatory subjects without prior Ministry permission is prohibited. For a Year 11 student, the effect is that the examined timetable is not the whole timetable.

On the tutoring side, the UAE regulates private tuition by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published.

IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson approval or accreditation, and claims none. It operates no office or centre in the UAE. The regulators and boards named on this page are described because a parent needs to know who does what — which authority inspects the school, which board sets the paper, and which ministry issues the tutoring permit. None of them endorses this service, and any provider implying otherwise is making a claim worth testing before paying.

Where we tutor

Where students sitting these syllabuses live

These are the communities around Sports City whose students are entered for the codes above. The notes are about the practical shape of the week, since the syllabus work itself does not change with the postcode.

Dubai Sports City

Schools inside the master plan and short journeys home, which makes an early evening slot workable. Most enquiries here name mathematics or a single science in Year 10 rather than a whole-timetable problem.

Victory Heights

Villas inside Sports City whose secondary students travel out to Al Barsha and Jumeirah. Triple-science and Additional Mathematics requests concentrate here, often in the second half of Year 11.

Motor City

Across Hessa Street with its own British-curriculum school. Weekday evenings are busy with sport, so blocks here survive better on a fixed weekend morning than on a weekday slot.

Arabian Ranches and Ranches 2

An established school cluster where Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625 requests arrive in volume after the Year 11 mock. Families here are more likely to ask about tiering than about rates.

DAMAC Hills

British-curriculum school inside the community and longer bus journeys. Students arriving home after five do better with two shorter sessions a week than one long one.

Town Square, Mudon and Remraam

Younger communities with more Year 7 to Year 9 demand. The useful work here is narrow and foundational: rearrangement, ratio, standard form and writing explanation sentences.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai Sports City

Sports City, Motor City and Victory Heights

Schools inside or minutes from the Sports City boundary. They do not all enter the same board for the same subject, which is why the syllabus code has to be checked per school rather than assumed from the community.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the code and the tier

An enquiry naming the syllabus code, the tier and the year group can be answered precisely. 'Cambridge 0625 Extended, Year 11, last mock 5' is enough to decide whether a genuine specialist is free. The code is printed on the school's subject sheet and at the top of every past paper.

  2. 02

Trial lesson on the student's own paper

A full online session with the proposed tutor, spent reading the student's most recent marked script. Lost marks are sorted into the habit categories and the two or three missing topics are named. The written summary afterwards is useful whether or not a block follows.

  3. 03

    Habits first, then content

Where the diagnosis is mixed, the first half of a block targets the mechanical losses and the second half the most examinable gaps. Doing it in that order means the student sees a score move early, which matters more for a Year 11 student's willingness to work than any other factor.

  4. 04

    Weekly past-paper work, self-marked

Questions are set from the five-year working set and marked by the student against the official scheme in the session, with every withheld mark named. The error log is kept across weeks rather than restarted, so a repeated category becomes visible instead of being forgotten.

  5. 05

    Review at four sessions

The target set in session one is measured in writing. If the error log shows the same categories recurring, the block changes: a different diagnosis, a different tutor or a different frequency. A block nobody reviews tends to run to its end regardless of whether anything moved.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched to the code, not the subject

Cambridge 0620 Extended and Pearson 4CH1 overlap in content and differ in question style, tiering and practical arrangement. A tutor matched to 'chemistry' rather than to the code will teach correct chemistry against the wrong paper, which is the most common reason a Year 11 block produces no movement.

Mark schemes used as teaching material

Students mark their own work against the official scheme with the tutor asking why each mark was awarded. That teaches the examiner's logic, which is what is being assessed. Having work marked silently by somebody else teaches the score and nothing else, which is why it changes so little.

Habits counted before content is taught

A single mark lost per question to presentation habits outweighs a whole missing topic across a full paper. Counting the categories on a marked script decides the order of work, and that order is what makes an eight-week block produce a visible change rather than a vague improvement.

Rates published with their sources

Every AED figure here names the provider that published it and the month it was read. Most pages competing for this search publish no price at all, and the two that do quote US dollars. A family should be able to see where a quote sits in the market before agreeing to it.

Delivery and limits stated up front

Lessons are live, one-to-one and online in Gulf Standard Time. No tutor is sent to a UAE address, and in-home visiting runs only in India. IB Gram holds no regulator or board accreditation and operates no UAE office. Saying this in the first paragraph removes the conversation that otherwise happens after a deposit.

A clear line on assessed work

Tutors teach criteria and techniques and give feedback on the student's own work. They do not write, complete or produce coursework of any kind. That is a board rule, not a preference, and work a student did not produce becomes a malpractice finding against the candidate.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Sports City: your questions answered

Does an IGCSE tutor from IB Gram travel to Dubai Sports City?+

No. Every UAE lesson is delivered live online, one to one, over video in Gulf Standard Time, and in-home visiting is a service offered only in India. Visiting tutors do operate in this part of Dubai and published market rates for in-home one-to-one sessions run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour once travel is counted, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor. The premium pays for the journey. The online format is offered instead because it allows matching to a syllabus code.

Which Cambridge syllabus codes do Sports City students most often need?+

Mathematics 0580 by a wide margin, then Chemistry 0620, Physics 0625 and Biology 0610. Additional Mathematics 0606 appears in the second half of Year 11 for students heading towards A Level or Higher Level mathematics. Students not entered for three separate sciences sit Combined 0653 or Coordinated 0654, where papers mix disciplines and revision has to be organised by paper rather than by science. English Language 0500 or 0990 and Business Studies 0450 make up most of the rest.

Why does my child understand the topic but still lose marks?+

Almost always because the answer is not in the form the mark scheme pays for. Method held in a calculator earns no method marks. A rounded intermediate value loses the accuracy mark. 'Explain' answered with a formula earns nothing because the scheme wants a causal chain in words. In biology, a near-synonym is rejected outright. Take the marked paper and count how many lost marks are mechanical rather than knowledge-based; for most Year 11 students in this belt the mechanical count is the larger one.

How should past papers be used in the months before the June series?+

In three modes rather than one. By topic, pulling every question on a single topic from five years so the narrow variation becomes visible. By paper, sat to time, to build pacing and question-order decisions. And by re-attempting the specific questions previously lost, two or three weeks later, which is the mode almost nobody uses and the one that makes the change durable. Keep a one-line error log per lost mark, with the category and the fix, and review it rather than restarting it.

Can a tutor mark my child's work for them each week?+

A tutor can, but it is the weaker option. The higher-value exercise is for the student to mark their own work against the official scheme while the tutor asks why each mark was awarded or withheld. That teaches the examiner's logic, which is the thing being assessed, and it transfers to papers nobody has marked. Work marked silently by an adult teaches the score only, which is why students who are heavily marked often plateau at the same grade for a year.

How are practical skills examined if we never set up an experiment?+

The examined skill is mostly written: choosing and controlling variables, selecting apparatus and precision, tabulating results with units in the heading, identifying anomalous points and criticising a method as described. Cambridge offers an alternative-to-practical route in several sciences, and all of those techniques can be drilled on screen with real past-paper data. What online lessons cannot replace is handling apparatus in a school laboratory, which remains the school's part of the work.

What are the three chemistry calculations that matter most in 0620?+

Moles from mass using relative formula mass, moles from concentration and volume for solutions, and percentage yield or percentage purity. Between them they account for a large share of the calculation marks across the Extended papers, and each has a layout the scheme rewards. Students who learn them as three templates — write the known quantities, write the relationship, substitute, then evaluate — recover marks within about three weeks, because the arithmetic was rarely the problem in the first place.

Should a Sports City student in Year 11 add 0606 to a full subject load?+

For a student heading towards A Level Mathematics or IB Higher Level, usually yes, because it covers calculus, functions and trigonometric identities at a level closer to AS and removes most of the step up at 16. For a student who finds 0580 Extended genuinely hard, it adds load without a clear return. The honest test is current performance on algebraic manipulation rather than enthusiasm, and that can be assessed from one marked 0580 paper.

How quickly can a specialist for a specific code be found?+

Usually within a day, with a trial lesson in the same week, because matching does not depend on who is free within driving distance of Sports City on a given evening. The exception is the weeks around mock results, when demand across every Dubai cohort rises at once and the scarcer codes — 0606 Additional Mathematics, 0478 Computer Science — can involve a short wait. Where that happens you are told, rather than being matched to a general tutor described as a specialist.

Does my child's school decide the Core or Extended entry?+

Yes. Where a Cambridge syllabus is tiered, the school makes the entry, usually during Year 10 and on the basis of attainment to that point, and Core caps the grade available however well the student performs in the series. Pearson's Foundation and Higher structure behaves similarly. The useful question at a parents' evening is specific: which tier, what grade does it cap, and what would have to change for that to be revisited before entries close?

Which English Language component causes the most lost marks?+

Directed writing, because form, audience and register carry marks of their own. A well-written article scores poorly if the task asked for a letter, and no amount of content rescues it. The summary question is the second, lost mainly to writing too much: the marks are for selection and compression, so a longer answer is often a weaker one. Both are technique rather than ability, and both respond to three or four weeks of deliberate practice against the scheme.

Do tutors teaching Dubai students need a UAE permit?+

Private tutoring in the UAE requires a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18, applying through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Those tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so quoted amounts are unverified.

What is the smallest useful block of IGCSE tutoring?+

Four sessions, if the target is a single habit or a single calculation family. That is enough to change written-method discipline, to install the three chemistry calculation templates, or to fix unit and direction handling in physics. It is not enough to rebuild a topic nobody taught properly. Booking four with a stated target and reviewing them honestly is better practice than booking a term and hoping, because the review is what tells you whether to continue.

Why do mock results differ so much from predicted grades?+

Because mocks are the first time many students meet the full paper under time, and timing is a separate skill from content. A student who knows the material but has never sat the paper to length will leave questions unattempted, and unattempted questions score nothing regardless of knowledge. Sort the mock losses by cause: if 'question not attempted' or 'content not retrieved under time' is a large category, the next block is pacing work, not more teaching.

Send the code, the tier and the last marked paper

For an IGCSE tutor near me in Dubai Sports City, the message that gets a precise answer names the syllabus code, the tier and the most recent marked paper. From those three it is possible to say which specialist is a genuine match, whether the lost marks are mechanical or content-based, and what order the work should go in. The trial lesson is a full teaching session with the proposed tutor, delivered live online in Gulf Standard Time, and it ends with a written diagnosis rather than a quote.
