IB and IGCSE tutors for Dubai Sports City families

A large share of the families who look for IB and IGCSE tutors in Dubai Sports City are managing something most tutoring plans ignore: a child with twelve hours of training a week, a tournament calendar, and the same examinations as everyone else. IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video, which means a Dubai Sports City student can keep a session while travelling and recover a missed fortnight without starting again.

  • Sessions built around training blocks, not around a spare evening
  • Delivered online, one-to-one, so lessons travel with the student
  • A written catch-up plan for a fortnight missed to competition
  • Sports subjects treated as academic subjects with real assessment

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Sports City

A community where the timetable belongs to somebody else

Dubai Sports City is one of the few residential communities in the emirate organised around facilities rather than around housing. Cricket, football and golf academies sit inside it, the stadium and training grounds define its geography, and a meaningful proportion of the children living here train seriously - several evenings a week, with weekend fixtures and a competition calendar set by somebody who has never heard of the Cambridge entry deadline.

That produces a tutoring problem with a different shape from anywhere else in Dubai. In most communities the obstacle is a school run and a tired evening. Here the obstacle is a fixed external schedule that does not negotiate: training is at six, the squad session is on Saturday, the tournament is the second week of March. A tutoring plan that assumes a free weekday evening has already failed, and so has one that assumes twenty uninterrupted weeks.

The household mix is also wider than the name suggests. Sports City contains apartment towers with families who have nothing to do with sport, the Victory Heights villas next door, staff households attached to the academies, and families who relocated specifically for a training programme. Those four groups ask for different things, and the third and fourth are the ones most poorly served by a standard area page, because the standard advice assumes a schedule they do not have.

There is a second problem specific to the serious athlete, which is absence. A student who misses a fortnight for a tournament has not missed a fortnight of content; they have missed a fortnight of content plus the practice that would have consolidated it, plus whatever coursework checkpoint fell in that window. Recovering it by doubling up on return rarely works, because the returning student is also tired. It needs a plan made before the absence, not after.

On delivery: lessons run one-to-one over live video with screen sharing. IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai; in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India. For a family in this community that is not a limitation but the single feature that makes continuity possible - a session can run from a hotel room in another country, at a time that works for a tutor in a third, which no visiting tutor can offer.

No figure on this page is an IB Gram price; the rates quoted are market rates with the provider that published each named. Nothing here promises a grade, and nothing here suggests that sport and academic work are in opposition. The point of the sections below is that both can be planned properly at the same time, provided the plan is built around the schedule that already exists.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four programmes run through this community, and the note under each describes how it behaves for a student whose week is already committed - which is the information a training household actually needs.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE

Two years of specification-led courses examined at the end of Year 11, with the syllabus code deciding the papers, the tiering and the formula sheet. Eight or nine subjects run simultaneously, so the course is unusually unforgiving of absence: a fortnight away touches every subject at once rather than one.

For a Sports City student with a competition calendar, the decision that matters is the option block. A set of eight subjects with three coursework components is far harder to recover after an absence than a set with one, and that is a Year 9 decision rather than something to manage in Year 11.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects with three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Internally assessed work in every subject is marked by the teacher and moderated by the IB. The coursework clustering is the problem for an athlete: several immovable school deadlines falling in the same weeks as a competition block.

CAS is the one part of the Diploma a serious athlete finds straightforward, since sustained sporting commitment maps onto it naturally. The Extended Essay is the hard part, because it needs sustained independent writing time in exactly the terms when training volume is highest, and it cannot be done in fragments.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Four criteria per subject group, each marked out of eight and converted to a 1-7 grade, with no external papers until optional eAssessment at the end of Year 11. Because marks come from interim tasks spread across the year, a missed window can mean a missing criterion score rather than a missed lesson.

This is the stage where an absence does most hidden damage for a training household, because a student away during the week a criterion is assessed may simply have no mark for it. Ask the school in advance which criteria are being assessed when, and plan the absence around the assessment calendar.

PYPAges 3-11 · FS1-Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary units with outcome-based reporting rather than marks, and no public examinations. Reading fluency, number-fact recall and written stamina are what matter, and they are built by habit rather than by catch-up. Short, frequent work suits a child who already trains several times a week.

Primary-age athletes in this community are often the most tired children in Dubai by seven in the evening. Twenty-five minutes before training, or on a non-training afternoon, achieves more than an hour after it, and parents consistently underestimate how much the training load costs a nine-year-old's attention.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Below are the subjects Sports City families ask for most, including the two sporting subjects that are frequently treated as soft options and are not. Each note says what is assessed and where marks are lost.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

HL and SL

A full Diploma science subject with external papers and an internally assessed investigation, covering anatomy, exercise physiology, biomechanics and skill acquisition. Students arrive expecting their sporting knowledge to carry them and find the physiology and data-handling demands are those of any other science.

IGCSE Physical Education

Cambridge 0413 and equivalent specifications

A written theory paper on anatomy, physiology, training principles and psychology, plus assessed practical performance and analysis. The theory paper is where grades are decided and where sporting students are most complacent, because being good at a sport is not the same as explaining it in the examiner's terms.

Biology

HL and SL

The usual pairing for students heading towards physiotherapy, sports science or medicine. Content volume invites rereading, which achieves little; grades turn on terminology precision and on answering the command term that was actually used.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Required for most medical, pharmacy and physiotherapy-adjacent routes. Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms carry the Higher Level papers, and the internally assessed investigation loses marks on uncertainty handling rather than on chemistry.

IGCSE Mathematics

Core and Extended

The subject that suffers most visibly from absence, because the content is cumulative: two missed weeks in Year 10 can still be causing losses in Year 11. The tier decision caps the grade, so check it before planning any recovery work.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Proof and calculus are the Higher Level pressure points. The exploration needs sustained uninterrupted time, which makes it the single hardest Diploma component to fit around a competition season and the one to schedule into an off-season block.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics, modelling and graphical-calculator work, and the route many sporting students find more natural because the data is real. Interpretation carries marks students expect for the calculation alone, which is the recurring loss.

Physics

HL and SL

Biomechanics makes this attractive to athletes, and the mechanics content genuinely rewards an intuitive feel for forces. The loss is algebraic rather than conceptual, and the data-analysis component is barely practised outside the lessons spent setting up the investigation.

Business Management

HL and SL

A common choice for students interested in sports administration and management. The tools are quick to learn; applying them to an unfamiliar case study under timing is not, and students describe organisations when the question asked them to evaluate a decision.

Psychology

HL and SL

Popular with students who have encountered sports psychology in their own training. The subject is methodologically demanding in a way the applied version is not, and tutor supply is thinner than for the core sciences, so book earlier.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is unseen analysis under timing, which rewards a repeatable procedure rather than wider reading - useful for a student whose reading time is limited. The Individual Oral needs preparation that cannot be compressed into the week before.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements fit a training household, and the difference between them is flexibility rather than teaching style. The arrangement that fails here is the one that works everywhere else: a fixed weekday evening hour with no provision for absence.

A session placed around the training block

A fixed weekly slot positioned deliberately relative to training rather than in the gap that happens to be free. For an evening trainer that usually means before training or on a non-training afternoon; for a morning trainer it means later in the day. The placement is agreed from the training schedule, not from the school day.

  • Training schedule collected alongside school arrival times
  • Placed before training or on a clear afternoon, never straight after
  • Shorter and more frequent where the training load is high
  • Reviewed when the training season changes, not just termly

Travelling continuity for a competition block

Sessions that run from wherever the student is, with the time agreed against the destination's clock and the tutor's. A thirty-minute session from a hotel room keeps continuity and prevents a fortnight becoming a term's worth of damage, and it is only possible because nothing has to travel to a Dubai address.

  • Session times set against the travel itinerary, agreed in advance
  • Shorter sessions while away; consolidation rather than new content
  • Tutor's own time zone stated so the slot is actually workable
  • A written list of what to keep up and what to let go

An off-season recovery and coursework block

A concentrated block in the quietest part of the sporting calendar, used for the work that cannot be done in fragments: the Extended Essay, a maths exploration, an internally assessed investigation, or the cumulative content gap an absence left behind. It has a stated target and an end date.

  • Scheduled into the off-season deliberately, months ahead
  • Used for sustained work: coursework, explorations, cumulative gaps
  • Criteria taught by letter with the mark allocation shown
  • Ends when the target is met, with a written handover

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Sports City

01

Who lives in Sports City, and what each household actually asks for

The direct answer is that this community holds four quite different groups, and only one of them is the family everybody assumes. There are apartment households with no connection to sport, who ask the ordinary questions about marks and slots. There are the Victory Heights villa families, larger and more often running several children through one evening. There are academy staff households. And there are families who moved to Dubai specifically for a training programme, who are often the most academically anxious of the four.

That last group deserves separate treatment because their position is genuinely difficult. A family that relocated for a sporting pathway has made a decision with an uncertain outcome, and the academic record is the part of the plan that has to work regardless. They are frequently managing a child who trains more than their peers, sleeps less, travels more, and is sitting the same examinations on the same days as everyone else. Reassurance is not useful to them. A workable schedule is.

The apartment and villa split matters too, in a less dramatic way. Apartment households here are often two working parents with one or two children and a tight evening; villa households more often have three or four children and an arrival spread of two hours. The first needs a well-placed single slot; the second needs a stagger. Treating them the same is the commonest planning error in this community.

The table maps the four groups against what helps most. One pattern runs through all of them: the first thing to collect is the schedule that cannot move - training times, fixture days, travel dates, school assessment windows - and only then decide what tutoring goes where. Most plans are built in the opposite order and then fail when the immovable thing moves everything else.

02

Training load and study load in the same week

Twelve hours of training a week is not twelve hours taken out of a study timetable. It is twelve hours plus travel to and from the facility plus the recovery cost, and the recovery cost is the part families underestimate. A fourteen-year-old who finishes a hard session at eight has perhaps forty minutes of low-quality attention left. Scheduling demanding academic work into that window produces attendance rather than learning, and it slowly convinces the student they are bad at the subject.

The practical response is to stop treating the evening as uniform. Each student has one or two genuinely productive windows in a day, and for an athlete those windows are usually before training or on a clear afternoon rather than after a session. Finding them and defending them is worth more than adding hours. A thirty-minute session in a good window beats ninety minutes in a bad one, consistently and measurably.

The second response is to change the shape of the work rather than the amount. Drill-shaped material - number facts, moles calculations, vocabulary, command terms, calculator technique - survives a short tired session reasonably well. Sustained material - an exploration, an Extended Essay, a full timed paper - does not, and should be placed in the off-season, on a clear weekend, or in a school holiday. Mismatching the work to the window is why many athlete study plans produce so little.

The table sets out the common training patterns with a study pattern that fits each. These are operational recommendations from scheduling students with heavy commitments rather than published research, and they will need adjusting for your child. Send the training schedule along with the school arrival time and the plan can be built from both instead of from one.

03

A fortnight away for a tournament: the recovery that works

  • Ask the school in writing what will be taught, assessed and due in the window
  • Pre-learn cumulative subjects before leaving, Mathematics first
  • While away, maintain one or two subjects rather than attempting eight
  • On return, diagnose before adding hours; do not double up

A student who misses two weeks has missed three things, not one. The content taught in those weeks. The practice that would have consolidated it. And whatever assessment or coursework checkpoint fell inside the window, which in the Middle Years Programme can mean a criterion with no mark against it at all. Treating the absence as a content gap and catching up on notes addresses the smallest of the three.

The recovery plan that works is made before the absence. Two or three weeks ahead, ask the school for three things in writing: what will be taught in each subject during the window, what will be assessed, and what the deadlines are for anything due in that period. With those, the student can pre-learn the cumulative subjects - Mathematics first, because it is the one where a two-week hole keeps causing losses a year later - and submit or pre-agree anything with a deadline.

During the absence, the realistic aim is maintenance in one or two subjects, not coverage in eight. Thirty minutes every second day on Mathematics, plus reading for an essay subject, keeps the cumulative damage small. Trying to keep eight subjects running from a hotel room fails and leaves the student feeling they have failed, which is the worst outcome of the three available.

On return, the mistake is doubling up. A student coming back from a competition block is physically and mentally tired, and a fortnight of double sessions produces a second dip. A better sequence is one diagnostic session to establish what is actually missing, then a focused block on the cumulative subject only, with the non-cumulative subjects picked up through normal class teaching. Written out in advance, that recovery takes three to four weeks rather than a term.

04

Sports subjects as academic subjects

Two courses in this space get consistently misjudged in both directions. Students pick them expecting their sporting knowledge to carry them, and some parents worry they will be seen as soft. Both views are wrong. IGCSE Physical Education and the Diploma's Sports, Exercise and Health Science are examined academic courses with anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and data handling in them, and the written papers are where grades are decided.

The specific trap for an athlete is that the subject is familiar in the wrong register. A competitive swimmer knows a great deal about training principles in practice, and almost none of it is phrased the way an examiner requires. The gap between knowing how a periodised training block feels and being able to explain adaptation in the terms the mark scheme wants is exactly the gap a tutor closes, and it is wider than students expect.

The second trap is the practical or coursework component, which looks like free marks. Assessed practical performance is marked against criteria, and analysis of performance is a written task with its own requirements. Being excellent at the sport contributes but does not complete it. Students who leave the analysis to the last week routinely lose marks they had already earned on the field.

The table sets out what each course assesses and where marks go missing. Confirm the exact components and weightings against the current syllabus or subject guide for your child's cohort, which the school can supply, since both the Cambridge syllabus and the IB subject guides are revised on a cycle. On the broader question: a sports subject taken seriously and well sits perfectly alongside sciences and mathematics, and what a university programme cares about is its own published prerequisite rather than a general impression.

05

Apartment families and villa families: two different requests

It is worth separating these explicitly, because the same page serves both and the right answer differs. An apartment household in Sports City is typically two working parents with one or two children, a short local school run, and one usable evening slot that has to carry everything. A Victory Heights villa household is more often three or four children, several schools, and an arrival spread approaching two hours.

For the apartment household the task is placement. There is one good window, it needs identifying precisely, and it needs defending against everything else that wants it. The practical answer is usually a single weekly slot timed from the child's actual arrival with one named fallback time for the weeks it collapses - and a clear decision about which subject gets it, since there is only one.

For the villa household the task is sequencing. Several children cannot share a window, and the best hour of the evening should go deliberately to whoever has the nearest public examination rather than by default to the loudest. The pattern that holds is youngest first and earliest, protected hour to the nearest deadline, latest arrival moved to a weekend block. One household fallback slot works better than one per child.

Both households benefit from the same underlying feature, which is that online delivery decouples the number of sessions from the number of tutors who can physically attend. A single visiting tutor can serve one slot and one stage. Three children at three stages can each have a specialist at a different hour only when nothing has to travel, which is the practical reason this community's schedules work better online than they look on paper.

06

What the market charges, and what flexibility is worth asking about

Rates in this market span roughly an order of magnitude and the spread reflects what is being sold. At the lower end, homework supervision and content recap. In the middle, a qualified subject tutor teaching a named specification. At the upper end, specialists in a particular paper, and above them providers selling scarcity. The figures below were read from provider listings and a published Dubai rate survey in October 2026, and they describe the market rather than IB Gram's price list.

For a training household there is a second dimension that matters as much as the rate, which is what happens when a session cannot go ahead. A fixture is rescheduled, a tournament is extended, a squad session is added. Any provider's cancellation and rescheduling terms therefore have a direct cost to this kind of family, and those terms are rarely on a website. Ask for them in writing before booking, alongside the rate.

The questions worth asking are specific. How much notice is required to move a session without charge? Can an unused session be carried to the following week or does it lapse? Is the same tutor available at a different hour while the student is travelling, and if not, who is? What happens to a block if a competition absence runs longer than planned? A provider with clear answers to those four is a better fit here than one with a slightly lower rate and vague terms.

The last column of the table is deliberately about what to ask rather than what to pay, because flexibility is priced inconsistently across this market and we are not in a position to publish anyone else's terms. For our own arrangement, ask for the rate, the notice period and the carry-over position together, and compare the whole package rather than the hourly figure.

Which schools Sports City children attend, and what the board spread means

This area is comparatively well served, with schools inside Sports City and Victory Heights and more immediately west in Motor City. A child at one of the local schools can be home by mid-afternoon, which is exactly what a training household needs, because it opens the window before training rather than only the one after it.

Older students travel more, often north across Al Khail Road or south towards the Arabian Ranches cluster, and that is where the scheduling gets genuinely tight: a secondary athlete home at half past five with training at seven has no usable academic window on a training day at all. For those students the plan has to be built on non-training afternoons and weekend blocks, and pretending otherwise produces a schedule that is abandoned by October.

The board question applies here as everywhere. Schools in this cluster choose examination boards subject by subject, so a single student can sit Cambridge in the sciences and Pearson in Mathematics, and two children in the same building can be on different boards in the same subject. Ask the examinations officer for the board, the syllabus code and, on Cambridge subjects, the tier, in writing, before buying practice material or booking a tutor.

For market context: KHDA counted 227 private schools and 387,441 pupils in Dubai in 2024-25 across seventeen curricula, and confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year. Dubai is adding seven new private schools for 2026-27, four British and three IB, creating 16,846 places. KHDA licenses and inspects those schools; it does not license private tutors, and IB Gram claims no approval from it or from any examination board.

08

Coursework and honesty when a student is away

  • There is no travel exception in a school's academic honesty policy
  • Criteria taught by letter, with the weakest one identified first
  • No supplied text and no rewritten sections, whatever the circumstances
  • Place coursework in the off-season; the fixture list is known in advance

Absence puts pressure on exactly the components where the honesty line matters, and the pressure arrives with a reasonable-sounding justification: the student was at a tournament representing their country, the deadline did not move, surely some latitude applies. The school's academic honesty policy does not contain a travel exception, and neither does the IB's. So this is worth settling in advance rather than at eleven at night three days before a deadline.

What a tutor can legitimately do is considerable. Teach the criteria by letter and the marks attached to each. Identify which criterion is currently scoring nothing. Question the research question until it is answerable in the word limit. Interrogate method, data, sources and reasoning. Respond to a draft with questions rather than corrections. Help the student decide which two hours of work recover the most marks in the time that remains.

What a tutor must not do does not change because a student was away: no supplied text, no restructured argument, no rewritten section handed back to be retyped. The test is whether the student can defend every decision in the work under questioning, without notes, because every decision was theirs. Providers in this market sell completed internal assessments at a fixed price; the provider keeps the fee and the student faces a malpractice finding that can cost the whole diploma.

The practical protection for a travelling student is scheduling rather than rescue. Where the sporting calendar is known a year ahead - and it usually is - coursework should be placed in the off-season deliberately, with drafts finished before the competition block rather than during it. That is the whole argument for an off-season block, and it is the one piece of planning that most reliably keeps an athlete out of a deadline crisis.

09

Coverage, time zones and the permit position

Specialist supply tightens in predictable places. Higher Level Mathematics and Higher Level Physics are the first to fill, from February onwards. Psychology and the smaller Diploma options draw on a shorter list than the subject grids imply. Sports, Exercise and Health Science has a genuinely narrow pool, because it is a smaller cohort subject, and it should be booked earlier than a core science rather than at the same time.

Where no UAE-based specialist is free, the fallback is a specialist based outside the UAE, most often in India, teaching the same specification online, with the base and the time difference stated before anything is confirmed. For a travelling household that detail is operational rather than ethical housekeeping: a tutor two and a half hours ahead of Dubai is a different proposition again when the student is at a tournament three time zones the other way, and the arithmetic has to be done before the block starts.

The honest version of travelling continuity is that it works well for maintenance and poorly for recovery. A thirty-minute consolidation session from a hotel room is genuinely useful. A full ninety-minute teaching session after a day of matches is not, however willing everyone is. Setting expectations at that level before a trip is what stops a travelling arrangement being judged a failure for not doing something it was never going to do.

On the regulatory position: private tutoring in the UAE requires the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years, and covering registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Tutoring without one attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so none is quoted. IB Gram operates no UAE centre, holds no KHDA Educational Services Permit, and delivers lessons online.

Nearby areas we cover around Dubai Sports City

Dubai Sports City sits inside the Al Khail and Hessa Street corner of Dubailand, with Victory Heights adjoining and Motor City immediately west. The notes below describe the communities that share its schools, its roads and in several cases its academies.

Dubai Sports City

Apartment towers around the stadium and the academy grounds, with schools inside the community. Children at the local schools are home early; children who train in the evening are not available at all between six and eight.

Victory Heights

The villa community adjoining, with a primary school inside it and a largely family-and-sport household mix. Secondary students here travel out to the Motor City or Al Barsha South schools, which pushes their session later.

Motor City

Immediately west, sharing the same school cluster and roads. Households often use schools in one community and academies in the other, which is why arrival and training times have to be collected together.

Arabian Ranches and Arabian Ranches 2

South along the Al Khail corridor with established schools of their own. A number of academy families live there and travel in for training, so their evenings run later than their school run would suggest.

Jumeirah Village Circle and Triangle

North-west across Hessa Street, sharing some bus routes. Requests from that direction concentrate on IGCSE Mathematics and the sciences in Years 10 and 11.

Dubai Hills Estate

North across Al Khail Road, newer and growing. The Al Khail crossing in the late afternoon is the main variable for any household combining a Dubai Hills school with Sports City training.

DAMAC Hills

South-west down Umm Suqeim Road with a school inside the community. Students travelling from there into Sports City for training are among the latest finishers in this catchment.

Remraam and Mudon

Further south in the Dubailand belt on longer routes. For those families a weekend block is almost always a better arrangement than a weekday session, particularly in a training season.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai Sports City

Inside Sports City, Victory Heights and Motor City

The schools most children in this area attend, covering the British route to IGCSE, the American diploma and the IB. They run different boards, so a tutor match starts from the entry code. Students we support attend schools across this cluster.

  • Bradenton Preparatory Academy
  • GEMS United School Dubai
  • Victory Heights Primary School
  • GEMS Metropole School Motor City
  • GEMS Metropole Al Waha
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park

The wider Al Khail corridor

Where older students from this area often travel, taking in the Arabian Ranches, Al Barsha South and Dubai Hills schools. Those longer routes combined with evening training are what make weekend blocks the default for secondary athletes.

  • Jumeirah English Speaking School Arabian Ranches
  • Ranches Primary School
  • Safa Community School
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • Jebel Ali School

Schools and academies are named as local context for Dubai Sports City families only; IB Gram claims no affiliation with, endorsement by or partnership with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the training schedule with the school details

Training days and times, fixture pattern, and the travel dates you already know, alongside the school and the usual arrival home. The immovable schedule is collected first and the tutoring is placed around it, which is the opposite of how most plans are built.

  2. 02

Send the syllabus code and the marked work

The code and tier from the entry form, or the IB subject and level, plus the last two pieces of marked work including one that went badly. For a student who has already missed time, that is also what shows whether the absence left a cumulative gap or a surface one.

  3. 03

    Identify the genuinely productive window

One diagnostic conversation to work out when this student is actually able to work: usually before training or on a clear afternoon rather than after a session. Thirty minutes in a good window beats ninety in a bad one, and defending that window matters more than adding hours.

  4. 04

Place sustained work in the off-season

Explorations, Extended Essays, internally assessed investigations and cumulative content gaps go into the quietest part of the sporting calendar, scheduled a term ahead. Fixture lists are published in advance, which makes this the one piece of planning that reliably prevents a deadline crisis.

  5. 05

Agree the travelling arrangement before the trip

Session times set against the itinerary, the tutor's own time zone stated, and a written list of what to keep up and what to let go. The aim while away is maintenance in one or two subjects, not coverage in eight, and saying so in advance keeps everyone honest.

  6. 06

Diagnose on return, then review on marks

One session to establish what is actually missing before adding any hours, because doubling up on a tired returning student produces a second dip. Then a review against marked work at six to eight weeks, with continue, change tutor or stop as the three legitimate outcomes.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The immovable schedule is collected first

Training times, fixtures and travel dates are gathered before anything is booked, and the session is placed relative to them. A plan built from a school timetable alone is a plan that assumes an evening this household does not have.

Lessons travel with the student

Because delivery is online, a session can run from a hotel room at a time agreed against two clocks. A fortnight of maintenance in one subject is what stops a competition block becoming a term of damage.

Absence is planned for, not patched

Before a trip we ask the school what will be taught, assessed and due in the window, pre-learn the cumulative subjects, and write down what to let go. Recovering an unplanned fortnight takes three times as long.

Sports subjects treated as real subjects

IGCSE Physical Education and Sports, Exercise and Health Science have written papers, physiology content and assessed analysis. The work is translating what an athlete already knows into the register the mark scheme requires.

Rates in AED with sources, and flexibility questioned

Every figure here is attributed to the provider or survey that published it and dated to October 2026. For a training household the notice period and carry-over terms matter as much as the rate, so ask for all three together.

The honesty line has no travel exception

Criteria taught, method questioned, drafts answered with questions - and no supplied text, whatever the fixture list did to the deadline. The protection for a travelling student is scheduling coursework early, not rescuing it late.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Sports City: your questions answered

Who actually lives in Dubai Sports City?+

Four fairly distinct groups. Apartment households with no connection to sport, who ask the ordinary questions about marks and timing. The Victory Heights villa families next door, often with three or four children and a wide arrival spread. Academy staff households, whose working hours match training hours rather than office hours. And families who relocated to Dubai specifically for a training programme, who are usually the most academically anxious because the academic record has to work whatever happens with the sport. Those four need different plans, and the fourth is the one standard area advice serves worst.

Can a tutor come to an apartment in Dubai Sports City?+

No. IB Gram does not provide in-home tutoring anywhere in the UAE; in-home visits are a service offered only in India. Lessons run one-to-one over live video with screen sharing. For a training household this is the feature that makes the whole thing work rather than a compromise: a session can run from a hotel room at a tournament, at a time agreed against two clocks, and three children at three stages can each have a specialist at a different hour. No visiting tutor can offer either.

My child trains five evenings a week. When does studying happen?+

Before training, or on a clear afternoon - almost never after a session. A fourteen-year-old finishing a hard session at eight has perhaps forty minutes of low-quality attention left, and demanding work placed there produces attendance rather than learning. The practical plan is thirty to forty-five minutes of drill-shaped work immediately after school on training days, with sustained work moved to non-training afternoons, weekends or the off-season. Send the training schedule with the school arrival time and the session gets placed from both rather than from a guess.

My child will miss three weeks for a tournament. What should we do?+

Plan it two or three weeks ahead rather than afterwards. Ask the school in writing for three things: what will be taught in each subject during the window, what will be assessed, and what is due. Then pre-learn the cumulative subjects before leaving, Mathematics first, because a two-week hole there is still costing marks a year later. While away, maintain one or two subjects at thirty minutes every second day rather than attempting all eight. On return, diagnose before adding hours - doubling up on a tired student produces a second dip.

Can lessons continue while we travel for competitions?+

Yes, with expectations set properly. A thirty-minute consolidation session from a hotel room is genuinely useful and keeps the cumulative damage small. A ninety-minute teaching session after a day of matches is not, however willing everyone is. The arrangement is agreed before the trip: session times set against the itinerary, the tutor's own time zone stated so the slot is actually workable, and a written list of what to keep up and what to let go. Travelling sessions are for maintenance, not for recovery.

Is IGCSE Physical Education a serious academic subject?+

Yes, and it is misjudged in both directions. The written theory paper covers anatomy, physiology, training principles and psychology, and that paper is where the grade is decided. The trap for an athlete is that the material is familiar in the wrong register: knowing how a training block feels is not the same as explaining adaptation in the terms the mark scheme requires. The assessed practical and the written analysis of performance are also marked against criteria, and students who leave the analysis to the final week lose marks already earned on the field.

What is Sports, Exercise and Health Science and who should take it?+

A full Diploma science subject covering anatomy, exercise physiology, biomechanics and skill acquisition, with external papers and an internally assessed investigation. It suits students with a genuine interest in the science of performance, not students looking for an easier science - the data handling and physiology demands are those of any group four subject. Tutor supply is narrower because the cohort is smaller, so book earlier than for Biology or Chemistry. Confirm the exact components and weightings in the current subject guide for your child's cohort.

Does taking a sports subject weaken a university application?+

What matters is the published prerequisite of the specific programme, not a general impression about subject prestige. A programme that requires Chemistry and Mathematics at a particular level requires those subjects; a sports science course will usually name Biology or a science. A sporting subject taken seriously and graded well alongside sciences and mathematics is not a liability. Look up the requirement for the specific programme at the specific institution, in writing, at the start of Year 12, and choose the subject set from that rather than from assumptions.

Which schools do Dubai Sports City children attend?+

Many stay local: there are schools inside Sports City and in Victory Heights alongside, with more immediately west in Motor City. Older students more often travel, north across Al Khail Road or south towards the Arabian Ranches cluster. That matters for a training household because a secondary student home at half past five with training at seven has no usable academic window that day. Those schools also choose examination boards subject by subject, so ask the examinations officer for the board, the code and the tier in writing.

How do villa and apartment households here differ in what they need?+

Apartment households are usually two working parents with one or two children and a single usable evening window, so the task is placement: find the one good window, decide which subject gets it, and defend it with one named fallback time. Villa households in Victory Heights more often have three or four children and an arrival spread approaching two hours, so the task is sequencing: youngest first and earliest, the protected hour to whoever has the nearest public examination, latest arrival moved to a weekend block, and one household fallback slot.

What should we ask about moving sessions when fixtures change?+

Four specific questions, before booking and in writing. How much notice is needed to move a session without charge. Whether an unused session carries to the following week or lapses. Whether the same tutor is available at a different hour while the student is travelling, and who covers if not. And what happens to a block if a competition absence runs longer than planned. For a training household those terms have a real cost, and they are rarely published on any provider's site, so compare the whole package rather than the hourly rate.

Can a tutor help with a Physical Education coursework component?+

Within the same boundary that applies to every assessed component. A tutor can teach the criteria and what each is worth, explain the structure a performance analysis needs, question whether the evidence supports the claims being made, and respond to a draft with questions. What a tutor must not do is write any part of it, restructure the argument, or hand back a rewritten version to be retyped. The test is whether your child can defend every choice unaided. A tournament schedule does not create an exception to that.

My child is pursuing a US college sports route. What academic work matters?+

Two things that are easy to under-plan. The subject record itself, which has to satisfy whatever the institution publishes, and the standardised testing, which usually has to be sat on a fixed date that may collide with a fixture. Requirements differ by institution and by programme and they change, so get them in writing from the institutions in question rather than from general advice. For the UAE side, note that on the American equivalency track English is evidenced by IELTS academic 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or 450 in SAT reading and writing, with at least 450 in SAT Mathematics.

How late can a session start after evening training?+

Later than 20:30 is rarely worth paying for, and for a student under about fifteen the limit is earlier than that. The issue is not willingness but recovery: after a hard session the available attention is both short and poor quality, and demanding work placed there teaches the student that they cannot do the subject. If the only free slot is after late training, the better answer is a shorter session on a non-training day plus consolidation work the student does alone, rather than a full lesson nobody gets value from.

What happens if the tutor is in a different time zone while we travel?+

It is stated before you book, because it decides whether a travelling arrangement is viable at all. A tutor two and a half hours ahead of Dubai is one proposition when the student is at home and another when they are at a tournament several time zones the other way. We do that arithmetic against your itinerary before the block starts rather than discovering it in week two. Where the overlap does not work, the honest answer is a different tutor for the travelling period or a maintenance plan the student runs alone.

Send the fixture list with the syllabus code

The plan that works for a Dubai Sports City family starts from the schedule that cannot move. Send the training days and times, the fixture pattern, any travel dates you already know, the school and usual arrival home, and the syllabus code or IB subject and level with the last marked work. You will get a session placed in a window your child can actually use, sustained work scheduled into the off-season, a written arrangement for any competition block including the tutor's time zone, the rate in AED with the notice and carry-over terms, and a review date six to eight weeks out. Lessons run online, one-to-one, over live video.
