IGCSE Science Tutor in Dubai Sports City

An IGCSE science tutor in Dubai Sports City is usually needed for one science rather than three, and the right help depends entirely on which one. Biology loses marks to imprecise terminology, chemistry to calculation layout, physics to explanations written as formulae. This page sets out the routes, the practical papers and the three separate fixes. IB Gram teaches Sports City and Victory Heights students live online, one to one, in Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Sports City

Three sciences, three completely different problems

Parents in Dubai Sports City tend to describe this as a single problem. Science is going badly, a tutor is needed, and the subject is treated as one thing. In the papers it is three things with almost nothing in common except the word on the timetable, and a block that treats them as interchangeable spends its time in the wrong place for at least two of the three.

Biology is a terminology and data subject. Mark schemes list the accepted words and reject near-synonyms, so a student who understands osmosis perfectly and describes it without mentioning a partially permeable membrane scores lower than they expect. The content volume is the largest of the three, and the technique that recovers marks is precision in language and care in reading graphs and tables.

Chemistry is a layout subject. Three calculation families carry most of the numerical marks — moles from mass, moles from concentration and volume, and yield or purity — and the scheme awards method marks for the structure of the working rather than for the number alone. A student who computes in their head loses marks they have earned, and ionic equations lose marks for unbalanced charge as often as unbalanced mass.

Physics is an explanation subject with algebra underneath. 'Explain why the lamp dims' wants a chain — resistance rises, current falls, power falls — and a correct formula earns nothing. Underneath that sits rearrangement, which is where most physics difficulty actually lives: a student who cannot make a quantity the subject of an equation stalls identically in motion, circuits and thermal physics.

On top of those three sits a structural question most families have not resolved: which route is the student on. Three separate sciences, a double award, or a single combined award are different entries with different papers and different progression consequences at 16. The answer is on the school's subject information sheet and it changes what a tutoring plan should aim at.

IB Gram delivers all UAE tuition live, one to one and online over video in Gulf Standard Time. No tutor is sent to a Sports City address, and in-home visiting is a service offered only in India. The practical consequence for a triple-science student is that each subject can be matched to a specialist in that syllabus, on separate evenings, rather than to one person who teaches the nearest approximation to all three.

What follows is the structure: the routes and their codes, how practical work is examined, where each science withholds marks, the shared mathematics behind all three, and what it costs to support two or three sciences at once rather than one. The section on the first three weeks is the one to read if money is limited, because it names the single highest-return intervention for each subject separately and they are not the same intervention.

Three stages produce science enquiries from this belt. The route and the codes change at each, and so does what a block can usefully attempt.

TRIPLEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Separate sciences (Cambridge 0610, 0620, 0625)

Biology, Chemistry and Physics entered as three separate IGCSEs, each with its own papers and its own grade. Cambridge tiers each into Core and Extended, which caps the grade available on the Core route. Pearson Edexcel runs 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1 as the equivalent separate entries.

Triple science is the normal route for students in this part of Dubai heading towards A Level or IB Higher Level sciences, and it produces the heaviest Year 11 workload of any subject combination. Requests from Victory Heights and Arabian Ranches concentrate here, usually naming one science rather than all three.

COMBINEDAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Combined and Coordinated Science (Cambridge 0653, 0654)

Combined Science 0653 produces a single award covering all three sciences; Coordinated Science 0654 is a double award with more content. Papers mix disciplines, so a question on energy may be followed by one on cells. Revision organised by science rather than by paper leaves a student unprepared for the order questions arrive in.

Students on these routes should check progression requirements with the school they intend to join at 16, because entry to an A Level or Higher Level science from a single combined award is not automatic. That conversation is better held in Year 10 than discovered in Year 12.

LSECAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Lower Secondary science

The years in which written explanation, unit handling and basic quantitative skills are built, assessed internally and in many schools through Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests, which run in March, May and October. Weak proportional reasoning here becomes three separate problems at IGCSE.

Enquiries from Town Square, Mudon and Remraam cluster at this stage after a Year 9 report. The useful intervention is narrow: writing a cause-and-effect sentence, rearranging a simple formula, and handling units. Six sessions of that outperforms a term of general science support.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each entry names the syllabus code and the specific reason marks go missing on that paper. The code appears on the school's subject information sheet and at the top of every past paper.

Biology — Cambridge 0610 / Pearson 4BI1

Core and Extended

Cells, transport, enzymes, nutrition, respiration, coordination, reproduction, inheritance and ecology. The heaviest content load of the three. Marks are lost to near-synonyms the scheme rejects and to data questions answered without quoting figures and units from the graph.

Chemistry — Cambridge 0620 / Pearson 4CH1

Core and Extended

Particles, bonding, stoichiometry, acids and bases, electrolysis, the periodic table, organic chemistry and analysis. Three calculation families carry most of the numerical marks, and the scheme pays for the layout of the working as much as the answer.

Physics — Cambridge 0625 / Pearson 4PH1

Core and Extended

Motion, forces, energy, thermal physics, waves, electricity, magnetism and nuclear physics. Explanation questions want a chain of consequence in words. Beneath that sits rearrangement, which is where a surprising share of physics difficulty actually originates.

Combined Science — Cambridge 0653

Core and Extended

A single award across all three sciences with reduced content per discipline. Papers mix disciplines, so revision has to be organised by paper. The reduced content is an advantage for workload and a constraint on progression, which should be checked with the receiving school at 16.

Coordinated Science — Cambridge 0654

Core and Extended

A double award with more content than Combined and less than three separate sciences. A reasonable middle route for a student who needs science but not three full syllabuses, and the route where revision organisation by paper matters most because the papers are long.

Practical assessment and the alternative route

All science routes

Cambridge sciences carry a practical component with an alternative-to-practical option. The examined skills are variable control, apparatus and precision choice, tabulating results with units in headings, spotting anomalies and criticising a described method. All are written techniques with correct forms.

Data and graph questions

All science routes

Common to all three sciences and routinely under-prepared. Marks require figures quoted with units, trends described with reference to specific values, and anomalies identified rather than ignored. A generic description of a rising line scores a fraction of what a specific one does.

Quantitative skills across the sciences

All science routes

Rearrangement, ratio, percentages, standard form and significant figures. The same skill set appears in all three sciences and in mathematics, which is why a student stalling at the same step in four subjects has one problem rather than four.

Extended-response questions

Extended tiers

Longer answers requiring structure: a claim, the supporting science, and a conclusion that answers the question asked. Students write everything they know about the topic instead, which scores for relevance rather than for completeness and leaves marks on the table.

Command terms in science papers

All science routes

Describe, explain, suggest, compare, calculate and state are defined and enforced in marking. 'Describe' answered with an explanation wastes time; 'explain' answered with a description scores nothing. Learning the handful that recur is a two-week job with returns in every science.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all live online and one to one, differing in how many sciences they touch and what the weekly written work looks like.

Single-science block

One science, one specialist, one target. The default and the most efficient, because the fix for biology has nothing in common with the fix for physics. A student losing marks across three sciences usually has one shared cause underneath, and that is diagnosed before any subject block begins.

  • Matched to the syllabus code and tier
  • Past questions on one topic drilled across five years
  • Student marks their own work against the published scheme

Two-science pairing on separate evenings

Separate specialists for two sciences, deliberately spaced across the week so a student is not carrying two sets of homework into one night. The common Year 11 arrangement for triple-science students who are solid in one subject and losing marks in two.

  • A specialist per syllabus, not one tutor across both
  • Sessions spaced to keep homework manageable
  • Overlapping skills — moles, rearrangement, graphs — taught once

Shared-skills block across the sciences

A short block on what all three sciences assess identically: data and graph questions, command terms, unit handling, rearrangement and significant figures. Often the most efficient first purchase for a triple-science student, because a single fix pays in three subjects.

  • Figures and units quoted from graphs, trends described specifically
  • Command terms learned by definition and applied to real questions
  • Rearrangement drilled through science problems, not abstract algebra

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Sports City

01

What this search returns, and what is actually provided

  • Resolve 'science' into a code and a tier before planning anything
  • Losses across all three sciences often share a single cause
  • A shared-skills block pays in three subjects at once
  • Delivery is live, online and one-to-one; no UAE home visits

An IGCSE science tutor in Dubai Sports City means one-to-one teaching in one or more of biology, chemistry and physics, arranged outside school for a student in or around the Sports City master plan. IB Gram provides that live online over video in Gulf Standard Time. No tutor is sent to a UAE address; in-home visiting is a service offered only in India, and that is stated here rather than discovered after a deposit.

The first useful thing a provider can do is refuse to treat 'science' as one subject. A request for science help has to be resolved into which science, which syllabus code, and which tier before anything sensible can be planned. The three subjects fail for different reasons, respond to different work, and are marked by schemes with different habits, so a single tutor covering all three at once will be strong in one and adequate in two.

The second is to look for the shared cause. Where a student is losing marks across all three sciences, the explanation is often not three subject weaknesses but one skill gap showing up three times: rearrangement, unit handling, command terms, or data questions answered without specific figures. Fixing that once pays in three subjects, and it is a cheaper and shorter block than three subject blocks in sequence.

What is on offer, then, is a diagnostic first and a subject block second. A marked paper from each science, read together, usually shows the pattern within one session. Where the pattern is shared, the first block is a shared-skills block. Where it is genuinely subject-specific, the block is matched to the code and the tier, and where no specialist is free for that code the answer is a stated wait rather than a substitution.

02

Triple, double award or single combined: which route is it

Before any teaching, establish the route. Three separate sciences gives three IGCSEs with three grades and the fullest content. Cambridge Coordinated Science 0654 is a double award with less content per discipline. Cambridge Combined Science 0653 is a single award covering all three with the least content. Pearson runs equivalent separate and double-award routes. The school makes this decision, usually in Year 9 or early Year 10.

The routes differ in more than volume. On the combined and coordinated routes the papers mix disciplines, which changes how revision has to be organised: by paper rather than by science, because a student working through biology in isolation will be surprised by the order questions arrive in. On the separate routes each paper stays within its subject, and revision by subject works.

The consequence that matters most arrives at 16. Entry to an A Level or IB Higher Level science from a single combined award is not automatic, and requirements are set by the receiving school rather than by the board. A student in Sports City intending to take Higher Level chemistry should have checked this in Year 10, because by Year 11 the entry has been made and the content covered is what it is.

The tier question sits on top of all of this. Cambridge tiers each science into Core and Extended, and Core caps the grade available. A student on Core aiming at a post-16 science has two constraints rather than one, and both are decided before the papers. The table sets the routes side by side with the question to ask about each.

03

How practical work is examined

  • Units belong in table column headings, not beside each value
  • Anomalies must be identified and addressed, not ignored
  • Method criticism names the uncontrolled variable, not 'inaccuracy'
  • Precision choice is a marked decision, not a detail
  • The school supplies the laboratory; the marks follow the writing

Every science enquiry eventually asks about practicals, usually in the form of whether online tuition can cover them. The answer requires separating two different things that share a name. The laboratory is the school's work: handling apparatus, taking readings under supervision, and watching an experiment misbehave are experiences a tutor cannot supply in any format.

What is examined, though, is the written craft around practical work, and Cambridge sciences carry a practical component with an alternative-to-practical option precisely because those skills can be assessed on paper. The question styles are distinctive and consistent: which variable should be controlled and why, which apparatus and what precision, how to tabulate results with units in the column heading, which point is anomalous, and what is wrong with the method as described.

Each of those has a correct form that can be taught and drilled. Tables need units in headings rather than beside every value. Anomalies need identifying and then addressing, not ignoring. Method criticisms need to name the variable that was not controlled rather than saying the experiment was inaccurate. None of this requires apparatus to practise, and all of it is assessed every series.

Pearson handles the same skills within its own paper structure, which is a further reason the code matters more than the board name. A student drilled on one board's practical question style and entered for the other knows the science and misreads the task, and in a mock report that reads as carelessness. The division of labour to state plainly: the school supplies the bench, the tutor supplies the written technique, and the marks are awarded for the second.

04

Three sciences, three different fixes

The most useful thing on this page is the recognition that the three sciences need different first weeks. A tutor who opens every block the same way is working from a template rather than from the paper. What follows is the standard first intervention for each, drawn from the reasons the schemes withhold marks.

Biology first. The fix is vocabulary built from past mark schemes rather than from a textbook. Collect the accepted terms for the topics being examined and drill them, because the scheme rejects near-synonyms and the student has no way of knowing which words count. Alongside that, data questions: quote the figure, give the unit, name the trend with reference to specific values.

Chemistry second. The fix is calculation layout. Write the relationship, substitute with units, evaluate, round once at the end. Three calculation families cover most of the numerical marks and each can be installed as a template in two or three weeks. Then charge balancing in ionic equations, which is a two-second check that is never performed because nobody has told the student to perform it.

Physics third. The fix is the three-clause explanation: cause, mechanism, effect, written as linked clauses rather than as a conclusion alone. After that, unit conversion before substitution and direction on every vector answer. If the same algebraic step fails in motion, circuits and thermal physics, the real block is rearrangement, and the physics content is not the place to start.

05

The mathematics all three sciences assume

A student who is losing marks in biology, chemistry and physics simultaneously usually has one problem rather than three, and it is quantitative. Rearrangement, ratio and proportion, percentages, standard form and significant figures run through all three subjects and through mathematics as well. When the same step fails in four subjects, treating it as four subject weaknesses is an expensive mistake.

The diagnostic takes twenty minutes and no specialist knowledge. Ask the student to make a named quantity the subject of three formulae, convert between units in two directions, and express two values in standard form. Watch for hesitation rather than for wrong answers: a student who arrives at the right result slowly in a quiet room will not arrive at it inside a timed paper with six other questions waiting.

Where that diagnostic fails, the first block should be quantitative, taught through science problems rather than as abstract algebra so the transfer is immediate. It is slower work than topic revision and it does not produce a visible change in the first fortnight, which is why families resist it and why providers rarely propose it. It is also the only version that lifts three subjects at once.

The corollary is worth saying for planning purposes. A triple-science student with weak quantitative skills should not be booked for three subject blocks. One shared block, then the weakest single science, is both cheaper and more effective. Families who book three tutors in a panic after a Year 11 mock usually discover this in February, having spent the money that would have funded it.

06

Which science to drop, and when that is reasonable

  • Two sciences at 16 means keeping three at IGCSE where possible
  • No science at 16 makes a double award a reasonable workload decision
  • Unknown intention in Year 10 argues for keeping options open
  • Routes and tiers are fixed at the entry deadline, not at the papers
  • A shared-skills block plus a double award often beats three thin entries

A fair number of enquiries from Arabian Ranches and Victory Heights are really asking whether a triple-science student should be carrying three sciences at all. It is a reasonable question, and the honest answer depends on the intended post-16 route rather than on current difficulty alone.

Where a student intends to take two sciences at A Level or Higher Level, three at IGCSE is the standard preparation and dropping one narrows options at 16. Where they intend to take none, three sciences is a workload decision with little return, and a double award can free real time for subjects that will matter more. Where the intention is unknown, which is common in Year 10, the safer choice is to keep options open and manage the load.

If a change is being considered, the timing matters as much as the decision. Routes and tiers are fixed at the entry deadline, which sits months before the papers, and after that point the question is academic. A conversation with the head of science in the first half of Year 10 is a decision; the same conversation in the spring of Year 11 is a complaint about something that can no longer change for that series.

The middle path is often better than either extreme. A student struggling with all three but needing science at 16 is usually better served by a shared-skills block and a double award than by three separate entries half-prepared. That recommendation costs a provider three subject blocks, which may be why it is rarely the recommendation a family receives.

07

What two or three sciences cost to support

Supporting one science and supporting three are different financial propositions, and families frequently commit to the second while pricing the first. The published hourly bands in this market are these. Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 at the university-student end. Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. TutorChase quotes AED 270. Bestimate places specialists at AED 200 to 450 and beyond, and BartyED publishes AED 650 for premium named tutors.

In-home visiting is quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and AED 200 to 500 by independent home tutors once travel is counted. Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions are AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support, with local packages advertised around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. All of these figures are provider-published and were read in October 2026; none is IB Gram's price list.

Multiply the mid band by three subjects weekly and the monthly figure becomes a significant household decision rather than an incidental one. That is the arithmetic that makes the shared-skills block worth considering first: one weekly session addressing rearrangement, command terms and data questions costs a third of three subject blocks and can move marks in all three papers.

The sequencing advice follows from that. Diagnose first, buy the shared block if the pattern is shared, then buy the single weakest science. Add a second science only if the first block has demonstrably worked. Families who start with three tutors rarely review any of them, because reviewing three blocks at once is harder than letting all three run, and that is how a term disappears.

Entries, series and the regulator

Two administrative facts bound every science revision plan in Dubai. The first is the entry: which board, which route, which codes and which tier, all decided by the school. The second is the entry deadline, which closes months before the papers and after which the route and tier are fixed for that series.

With Cambridge there is a third administrative fact, and it is the one that costs papers. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones; Cambridge states that using the correct zone timetable is essential and says it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong version. For a triple-science student sitting six or nine papers, a wrong-zone timetable is six or nine chances to be in the wrong place. The series themselves are straightforward: Cambridge runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February/March series is offered to India only, so a Dubai Sports City candidate plans around June and treats November as the resit route.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. In the most recent completed cycles, the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so the live official timetable is the only version worth planning from.

On the school side, Dubai's private schools are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. ADEK covers Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, the Sharjah Private Education Authority covers Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah has its Department of Knowledge, and the federal Ministry of Education supervises Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. KHDA also requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies alongside the licensed curriculum, so the examined timetable is not the whole timetable.

09

Permits and the claims this page does not make

  • MoHRE private tuition permit: free, two years, Resolution No. 710 of 2023
  • No board or regulator accreditation is held or claimed; no UAE office exists
  • Board documents are linked at source, never reproduced or supplied
  • No examiner status claimed without evidence, and never as inside access
  • No statistic without a sample size, a date and a method

Private tuition in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Applications go through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Those tutoring without a permit face fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published.

Examiner language is where science tutoring advertising strays furthest, so the rule here is explicit: no tutor is described as an examiner without evidence of current status, and examiner status is never presented as access to marking, to grade boundaries or to paper content, because it is not. Someone who has marked Paper 4 can tell your child what a mark scheme rewards in an extended-response answer. Nobody can tell you where this series' boundaries will fall. On our own standing: IB Gram holds no Cambridge, Pearson, International Baccalaureate, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA or Ministry of Education approval or accreditation, claims none, and operates no office or centre anywhere in the UAE.

Syllabus documents, past papers and mark schemes are referenced and linked at their official sources rather than reproduced or supplied. They belong to the boards, and for unreleased material reproduction is a more serious matter than copyright. A provider offering a library of board documents as downloads is doing something a family should be cautious about rather than impressed by.

Finally, no success statistic appears anywhere on this page. A percentage without a sample size, a date and a method cannot be checked by the reader and therefore proves nothing, however good it looks on a landing page. What can be offered instead is a stated target per block, a written review at four sessions, and an honest answer when the target has not moved.

Science demand around Sports City

The syllabuses are identical wherever a student lives. What differs is the route the school enters and the time a session can realistically start.

Dubai Sports City

Schools inside the master plan and short journeys home, so an early session works. Enquiries here often name a single science in Year 10, which is the best time to act on one.

Victory Heights

Secondary students travel out of the community and arrive home late. Triple-science students here generate the heaviest Year 11 demand in this belt, usually for chemistry or physics.

Motor City

Weekday evenings crowded with sport, so a weekend morning works better. A ninety-minute weekend block suits a data-and-graph session across two sciences at once.

Arabian Ranches and Ranches 2

Established cohorts with the largest triple-science entries nearby. Families here are more likely to ask which science to drop, which is a reasonable question asked at the right time.

DAMAC Hills

Longer bus journeys push sessions later. Two shorter sessions a week beat one long one for a student carrying three science syllabuses alongside everything else.

Town Square and Mudon

Younger communities with lower-secondary demand. Explanation-sentence structure and unit handling are the high-value work, and both transfer to every science later.

Remraam and Dubailand Residence

Long commutes leave a narrow evening. Online delivery is what makes a second science session possible in the same week at all.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the codes, the route and a marked paper from each

'Cambridge 0620 and 0625 Extended, Year 11, mocks 5 and 4' is answerable. Marked papers from two sciences read side by side usually show within one session whether the cause is shared or subject-specific, which decides the whole plan.

  2. 02

Check for a shared cause first

Twenty minutes of rearrangement, unit conversion and standard form, plus a look at how data questions were answered. Where the same step fails across sciences, the first block is shared-skills work rather than three subject blocks, which is both cheaper and faster.

  3. 03

    Buy one block, not three

The weakest single science, or the shared block, with a stated target. Adding a second science only once the first has demonstrably moved. Families who start with three tutors rarely review any of them, and three unreviewed blocks is how a term disappears.

    Weekly timed work, self-marked

Questions are set from past papers and marked by the student against the official scheme during the session, with every withheld mark named. The error log is kept across weeks so a repeated category — units, synonyms, charge balance — becomes visible rather than re-explained.

    Review at four sessions

The target is measured in writing. If the categories in the error log have not changed, the diagnosis, the tutor or the frequency changes, at no cost. In a Year 11 science timetable, catching that at week four rather than week eight is a month of an exam year recovered.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Three sciences treated as three problems

Biology loses marks to rejected near-synonyms, chemistry to calculation layout, physics to explanations written as formulae. A tutor who opens every block the same way is working from a template. The first weeks differ by subject because the schemes withhold marks for different reasons.

The shared cause looked for first

Losses across all three sciences are often one quantitative gap appearing three times. Diagnosing that before buying three subject blocks saves two of them, and a single shared-skills block can move marks on three papers at once. It is slower to show and cheaper overall.

Route and tier established before teaching

Separate sciences, a double award and a single combined award are different entries with different papers and different progression at 16. Core entries cap the grade. Both are fixed at the entry deadline, so the conversation is useful in Year 10 and academic in Year 11.

Practical skills taught where the marks are

The laboratory is the school's work; the marks are awarded for variable control, apparatus and precision choice, tabulation, anomalies and method criticism. All of that is written technique, drilled on screen with real past-paper data rather than with apparatus.

Honest sequencing advice

A student struggling with all three sciences but needing science at 16 is often better served by a shared block and a double award than by three thin entries. That recommendation costs a provider two subject blocks, which is probably why it is rarely offered.

Delivery, rates and limits stated

Lessons are live, one-to-one and online in Gulf Standard Time; no tutor is sent to a UAE address and home visiting runs only in India. Every AED figure names its source and the month it was read, and no accreditation, examiner status or outcome is claimed.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Sports City: your questions answered

Does my child need one science tutor or three?+

Usually one, and often not the one you would expect. Where marks are falling across biology, chemistry and physics at once, the cause is frequently a single quantitative gap — rearrangement, unit handling, significant figures — appearing three times. A shared-skills block addresses that in one weekly session rather than three. Where the losses are genuinely confined to one subject, a single specialist in that syllabus is the right purchase. Booking three tutors before diagnosing is how a term and a budget disappear together.

Is my child on triple, double award or combined science?+

Check the school's subject information sheet and the codes on past papers. Three separate sciences means Cambridge 0610, 0620 and 0625 or Pearson 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1, giving three grades. Cambridge Coordinated Science 0654 is a double award; Combined Science 0653 is a single award with the least content. The difference matters for revision organisation and, more importantly, for progression at 16, since entry to an A Level or Higher Level science from a single combined award is not automatic.

Why does biology lose marks when my child clearly understands it?+

Because mark schemes in biology list accepted terms and reject near-synonyms. Describing osmosis without a partially permeable membrane, or diffusion without a concentration gradient, scores lower than the student expects however sound the understanding. The fix is a vocabulary list built from past mark schemes rather than from a textbook, drilled until the accepted terms arrive automatically. Alongside that, data questions need figures quoted with units and trends described against specific values rather than in general terms.

Which practical skills are actually examined on the Cambridge science papers?+

The examined skills are written: which variable to control and why, which apparatus and what precision, how to tabulate results with units in the column headings, which point is anomalous, and what is wrong with a described method. Cambridge offers an alternative-to-practical route, and all those techniques can be drilled on screen with real past-paper data. Handling apparatus in a school laboratory remains the school's part of the work and is not something any tutor supplies.

Should a Sports City student drop one of the three sciences?+

It depends on the post-16 intention rather than on current difficulty. Two sciences at A Level or Higher Level means keeping three at IGCSE where possible. No science at 16 makes a double award a reasonable workload decision. Unknown intention in Year 10 argues for keeping options open and managing the load with a shared-skills block. Whatever the answer, routes and tiers are fixed at the entry deadline, so the conversation belongs in the first half of Year 10.

What is the quickest mark recovery in IGCSE chemistry?+

Calculation layout. Write the relationship, substitute with units, evaluate, then round once at the end. Method marks are awarded for that structure rather than for the answer alone, so a student who computes mentally loses marks they have earned. Three calculation families — moles from mass, moles from concentration and volume, and yield or purity — cover most of the numerical marks and install as templates in two or three weeks. Charge balance on ionic equations is the next cheapest.

Why are physics explanation questions marked so harshly?+

They are not marked harshly; they are marked for a specific thing. 'Explain why the lamp dims' wants a chain of consequence in words — resistance rises, current falls, power falls — and a correct formula earns nothing because the question did not ask for algebra. Writing three linked clauses instead of a single conclusion is a habit rather than an insight, and it transfers to every topic in the subject within two or three weeks of deliberate practice.

How do I test whether the real problem is maths rather than science?+

Twenty minutes, no specialist knowledge needed. Ask the student to make a named quantity the subject of three formulae, convert units in two directions, and write two values in standard form. Watch for hesitation rather than for wrong answers, because a student who gets there slowly in a quiet room will not get there inside a timed paper. If the hesitation is consistent, the first block should be quantitative, taught through science problems rather than as abstract algebra.

Does revision for Combined Science work differently?+

Yes, and this catches families out. On Combined and Coordinated Science the papers mix disciplines, so a question on energy may be followed by one on cells. A student who revises biology to completion, then chemistry, then physics, is unprepared for the order in which questions actually arrive. Revision has to be organised around paper structure rather than around subject, which usually means mixed practice sets from the start rather than at the end.

Which command terms matter most in science papers?+

Describe, explain, suggest, compare, calculate and state carry most of the traffic, and each is defined and enforced in marking. 'Describe' answered with an explanation wastes time that was needed elsewhere; 'explain' answered with a description scores nothing at all. 'Suggest' invites a reasoned possibility rather than a recalled fact, which students find counter-intuitive. Learning the handful that recur in a student's own papers is a two-week job with returns in all three sciences simultaneously.

How many sessions does a single science block usually need?+

Four to six if the losses are mechanical — terminology, layout, units, command terms — because those are habits and habits change in weeks. Around eight if one or two topics are genuinely absent and need drilling against past questions. One to two terms if the underlying problem is quantitative, because fluency is built with short frequent practice rather than taught in a lesson. Anyone quoting a session count before reading a marked paper is guessing at the diagnosis.

What does science tuition cost for a triple-science student in Dubai?+

Published hourly rates run from roughly AED 33 to 65 at the university-student end, where Tutopiya and EdFlik advertise, to AED 150 to 300 for qualified online subject teaching, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. Specialists sit at AED 200 to 450 or more, with TutorChase at AED 270. Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly hour sessions are AED 240 to 600, AED 600 to 1,200 and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more by tier. Multiply by three subjects before committing.

Can one tutor teach biology, chemistry and physics properly?+

One tutor can teach all three competently at Core level and will usually be strong in one and adequate in two at Extended. The three subjects are marked by schemes with different habits and fail for different reasons, so depth matters where the marks are tight. The arrangement used here is a specialist per syllabus on separate evenings, which also keeps the homework load spread rather than landing two sets on one night.

Is it worth starting science tutoring in Year 10 rather than Year 11?+

Yes, for two reasons. The tier and route conversations are still open in Year 10 and closed in Year 11, so a diagnostic that shows whether Extended entry is realistic is actionable at that point. And mechanical habits — terminology, layout, command terms, units — are cheaper to build before a student has spent two years practising the alternatives. A four to six session block in Year 10 regularly removes the need for an intensive a year later.

Send the codes and a paper from each science

For an IGCSE science tutor in Dubai Sports City, the message that gets a precise answer names the route, the codes and the tier, and attaches a marked paper from each science that is causing concern. Read side by side those papers usually show within one session whether the cause is shared across the sciences or confined to one, which decides whether the first purchase is a shared-skills block or a subject specialist. The trial lesson is a full teaching session delivered live online in Gulf Standard Time.
