IB Chemistry Tutor in Dubai Sports City

An IB chemistry tutor in Dubai Sports City is most often wanted in the second Diploma year, when organic chemistry arrives on top of a stoichiometry debt nobody cleared in the first. This page is built around that sequence: what is taught when, what each topic quietly depends on, and when the investigation has to be done. IB Gram teaches Sports City, Victory Heights and Motor City students live online, one to one, in Gulf Standard Time.

  • Matched to Higher or Standard Level chemistry specifically
  • Calculation types taught as templates, with the layout the scheme rewards
  • Live one-to-one online lessons in Gulf Standard Time
  • Investigation work planned against school laboratory access

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Sports City

Chemistry fails on a schedule

Chemistry has a more predictable failure pattern than any other Diploma science, and it is a calendar pattern rather than an ability one. The subject is taught in an order that compounds: stoichiometry early, then bonding and energetics built on it, then kinetics and equilibrium built on those, then organic chemistry late in the second year on top of everything. A student who leaves the first topic half-learned pays interest on it for two years.

That is why so many Sports City enquiries arrive in the same window. A student holds a 5 through the first year, meets organic chemistry in the second, and the grade collapses. The diagnosis families reach is that organic chemistry is hard. The actual diagnosis, most of the time, is that mole calculations were never secure, so every quantitative question in organic chemistry now has two obstacles instead of one.

The second predictable pressure is the scientific investigation, and its timing is less flexible than other coursework because it needs school laboratory access. An essay can be written at midnight. A chemistry investigation cannot be run at midnight, cannot be repeated after the laboratory timetable closes, and cannot be rescued by working harder in the final fortnight. Its research question has to be settled while there is still room for the data collection to fail once.

The third is the extra written paper at Higher Level, which adds both content and a paper type most students meet for the first time in a mock. Higher Level chemistry extends every topic rather than appending a few, so a student deciding between levels in the pre-Diploma year is choosing between two genuinely different workloads rather than between a long version and a short one.

IB Gram delivers all UAE tuition live, one to one and online over video in Gulf Standard Time. No tutor is sent to a Sports City address, and in-home visiting is a service offered only in India. For chemistry the online format has a concrete advantage: calculation layout is what the mark scheme pays for, and a shared screen lets a tutor watch the working appear line by line and stop at the step where the method broke.

The practical gain is also in matching. Diploma chemistry cohorts in this part of Dubailand are small, and the number of local tutors who have taught the Higher Level extensions and marked the extended papers is smaller. Matching by level and component rather than by driving distance is what makes a block in the second year worth buying at all.

What follows is the subject on a timeline: the syllabus in teaching order with the dependency each topic hides, why organic chemistry gets one pass and how to survive it, the investigation counted backwards from laboratory access, and what eight weeks before a paper should actually contain.

At a glance

  • The syllabus compounds: later topics assume the earlier ones are secure
  • Most organic chemistry trouble is unresolved stoichiometry
  • The investigation is bounded by laboratory access, not by willpower
  • Lessons are live online in Gulf Standard Time; no UAE home visits

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three stages produce chemistry requests from this belt, and the calendar pressure in each is different in kind rather than in degree.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Chemistry

Stoichiometric relationships, atomic structure, periodicity, chemical bonding, energetics, chemical kinetics, equilibrium, acids and bases, redox processes, organic chemistry and measurement and analysis, with Higher Level extensions throughout and an additional written paper. The scientific investigation is internally assessed against published criteria and moderated.

Dubai Diploma students sit the May session, which places organic chemistry and the investigation in the same stretch of the second year as mock examinations. Sports City families typically enquire once that collision has already happened, which is workable but more expensive per mark than acting in the first year.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

MYP Sciences

Assessed against four criteria marked out of 8 each and converted by published boundaries. Because the assessment is criterion-referenced rather than content-driven, a student can hold a respectable grade while quantitative skills — ratio, proportion, unit handling — stay underdeveloped, and nothing in the reporting makes that visible.

The useful moment is the end of MYP 4, which leaves a year to build proportional reasoning before Diploma chemistry assumes it. Families in Town Square and Mudon more often act at the end of MYP 5, by which point the work has to share time with new content.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Chemistry into the Diploma

Cambridge 0620 and Pearson 4CH1 cover bonding, stoichiometry, acids and bases, electrolysis, organic chemistry and analysis. The step to Diploma chemistry is in quantitative depth and in the expectation that calculations are set out formally, rather than in unfamiliar topics.

A summer bridging block between Year 11 and Year 12 is the standard Sports City request: moles from mass, moles from concentration and volume, and the habit of writing the relationship before substituting. Six sessions covers it, and it removes most of the first-term difficulty.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Chemistry is a small number of recurring demands dressed in different topics. Each entry below names what the topic assumes and where the paper withholds marks.

Stoichiometric relationships

HL and SL

Moles, molar mass, concentration, limiting reagents, percentage yield and gas volumes. Every quantitative topic later in the course assumes this is automatic. Marks are lost to layout rather than to arithmetic: the relationship not written before substitution, so method marks are unavailable.

Atomic structure and periodicity

HL and SL

Electron configuration, ionisation energies and periodic trends, with Higher Level extending into orbital detail. Trend questions require a reason, not a statement: 'ionisation energy increases' scores nothing without nuclear charge and shielding named.

Chemical bonding and structure

HL and SL

Ionic, covalent and metallic bonding, intermolecular forces, shapes of molecules and, at Higher Level, hybridisation and further structure. Students lose marks explaining boiling points by naming the bond type instead of the intermolecular force actually being overcome.

Energetics and thermochemistry

HL and SL

Enthalpy changes, calorimetry, Hess's law, bond enthalpies and, at Higher Level, entropy and spontaneity. Sign conventions decide the marks. An exothermic value given as positive loses the mark however correct the arithmetic behind it.

Chemical kinetics

HL and SL

Rate of reaction, collision theory, activation energy and, at Higher Level, rate laws and mechanisms. Explanation questions want a mechanism in words: more frequent successful collisions, not simply 'the reaction goes faster'.

Equilibrium

HL and SL

Dynamic equilibrium, Le Chatelier's principle and, at Higher Level, the equilibrium constant and its calculations. The widest mark spread in the course. Students can define Le Chatelier and cannot apply it to a specific perturbation, which is a diagnosable gap in one session.

Acids and bases

HL and SL

Proton transfer, pH, strong and weak acids and, at Higher Level, buffers and titration curves. Logarithmic handling trips students who are otherwise sound, and titration curve questions reward reading specific features rather than describing the shape in general.

Redox processes

HL and SL

Oxidation states, half-equations, electrochemical cells and electrolysis, with Higher Level extending into cell potentials. Half-equations lose marks for unbalanced charge as often as unbalanced mass, and both checks take seconds once they are habitual.

Organic chemistry

HL and SL

Functional groups, nomenclature, reaction types and mechanisms, with substantially more mechanism work at Higher Level. Taught late, with one pass through it for most students. Mechanism marks depend on curly arrows drawn from the correct origin, which is a convention rather than an insight.

Measurement, analysis and the investigation

HL and SL

Uncertainty, error propagation, spectroscopic interpretation and the internally assessed investigation. Roughly half the investigation marks concern research design, analysis and evaluation rather than the result, which is why a sound experiment with a thin evaluation under-scores.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all live online and one to one. Which one applies depends on where in the two-year sequence the student currently is.

Stoichiometry debt clearance

Four to six sessions installing three calculation templates properly: moles from mass, moles from concentration and volume, and yield or limiting reagent work. Best taken in the first Diploma year, and worth taking even in the second, because every later quantitative topic depends on it.

  • Relationship written before substitution, every time
  • Short frequent drills between sessions rather than long sets
  • Measured by speed and accuracy under time, not by topics covered

Topic block on equilibrium, kinetics or organic

Eight sessions on a named second-year topic, with past questions worked and marked against the published scheme. The usual response to a mock result, and most effective when the stoichiometry underneath it is already secure rather than being rebuilt at the same time.

  • One topic drilled across five years of past questions
  • Mechanism conventions taught explicitly where relevant
  • Error categories logged across weeks so repeats are visible

Investigation process block

Six to eight sessions planned backwards from the school deadline and around laboratory access, covering research question, variable control, uncertainty and criterion-by-criterion self-review. The tutor teaches the criteria and reviews the student's own writing, and produces no part of the report.

  • Research question narrowed until the data collection is actually feasible
  • Uncertainty and error propagation taught before the data is collected
  • Feedback on the student's own draft only; no drafting on their behalf

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Sports City

01

What an IB chemistry tutor in Dubai Sports City provides

  • Delivery is live, online and one-to-one in Gulf Standard Time
  • Sequencing matters more in chemistry than in any other Diploma science
  • Calculation layout is worth method marks and is fixed in about three weeks
  • No part of the investigation is written, completed or produced for the student

An IB chemistry tutor in Dubai Sports City means one-to-one Diploma chemistry teaching arranged outside school for a student in or around the Sports City master plan, and IB Gram provides it live online over video in Gulf Standard Time. No tutor is sent to a UAE address. In-home visiting is a service offered only in India, and that is stated here rather than left to emerge after a deposit.

The skill a family is actually buying is sequencing. Chemistry is the Diploma science where the order of work matters most, because the topics are not independent. Teaching equilibrium to a student whose mole calculations are shaky produces a session that feels useful and a paper that does not improve. A tutor who diagnoses the dependency first will often spend the opening weeks of a block on material the student met eighteen months earlier.

The second skill is calculation layout. Chemistry mark schemes award method marks for the structure of the working — the relationship stated, the substitution shown, the units carried — and students who compute confidently in their heads lose marks they have earned. This is mechanical, it is teachable in about three weeks, and it is invisible to anyone who has not read a mark scheme alongside a marked script.

What is not provided is any help with producing the investigation. A tutor teaches the published criteria, questions the variable control, discusses whether the data supports the conclusion, and gives feedback on what the student has written. Writing, completing or producing any part of the report is a malpractice finding against the student, and pages competing for these searches that sell finished internal assessments are selling that risk to the candidate.

02

The syllabus in teaching order, and the debt each topic hides

Most schools teach Diploma chemistry in broadly the same order, and that order creates a specific pattern of accumulating dependency. Stoichiometry comes first because everything quantitative needs it. Atomic structure and bonding follow, then energetics, then kinetics and equilibrium, then acids and bases and redox, with organic chemistry and the heavier analysis work late in the second year.

Each of those transitions assumes the previous material is automatic rather than merely familiar. Energetics assumes moles. Equilibrium assumes both moles and an understanding of reversible processes from kinetics. Redox assumes charge balancing that was introduced in bonding. Organic chemistry assumes all of it and then adds its own conventions. Nothing in a school report tells a parent which assumption has failed.

The diagnostic that works is to take a question from a late topic and watch where the student stops. A student who stalls at the point of converting a concentration to a number of moles has a first-term problem, not an organic chemistry problem, and treating it as the latter wastes the block. This is the single most common misdiagnosis in Diploma chemistry and it costs families a term routinely.

The table below sets the teaching sequence against the dependency each stage hides and what should be secure before moving on. It is written to be used in the first Diploma year, when the checks are cheap, rather than in the second, when they are expensive. Each check takes a few minutes and can be run at home: give the student one question of that type, time it, and watch whether the answer arrives with hesitation or without. Hesitation is the signal, not a wrong answer, because a student who gets there slowly in a quiet room will not get there at all inside a timed paper with five other questions waiting.

03

Organic chemistry gets one pass, and it comes late

  • Nomenclature and functional groups: spaced repetition from week one of the topic
  • Reactions and conditions: organised memorisation, built in the background
  • Mechanisms: conventions taught explicitly, then practised
  • Curly arrows start from a lone pair or a bond, never from an atom
  • Book tutoring for the second half of the pass, not after it ends

Organic chemistry is taught late and, for most students in Dubai schools, taught once. There is no second pass before the papers, because by the time it finishes the calendar has moved into mocks and then into the final weeks. Whatever a student understands at the end of that single pass is roughly what they take into the examination unless something is done deliberately.

That changes how it should be revised. The content divides cleanly into three kinds of knowledge: nomenclature and functional group recognition, which is memorisation; reaction types and conditions, which is organised memorisation; and mechanisms, which is convention plus reasoning. The first two respond to spaced repetition and can be built in the background from the week the topic starts. Only the third needs teaching.

Mechanism marks turn on conventions nobody states explicitly. A curly arrow has to start from a lone pair or a bond rather than from an atom. Charges have to appear on intermediates. The arrow has to point to where the electrons go, not to where the next atom is. Students who draw mechanisms that look right and score badly are almost always failing on these conventions rather than on the chemistry.

The practical recommendation for a Sports City family is to treat organic chemistry as a scheduling problem in advance. Start the memorisation work the week the school starts the topic rather than the week before the mock, and book any tutoring for the second half of the pass, when there is enough content for mechanism work to be meaningful. A block that arrives after the pass has finished is doing repair rather than teaching.

04

The investigation, counted backwards from laboratory access

The internally assessed investigation is the component with the least flexible timeline in chemistry, because its middle requires a laboratory. A student cannot collect data at home, cannot repeat a failed run after the laboratory timetable closes, and cannot compensate for thin data by writing more. That makes the backwards count from the school deadline tighter than for coursework in other subjects.

Working backwards, the final week is formatting and a criterion check, with no chemistry happening. The fortnight before is analysis, uncertainty propagation and evaluation. Before that sits the data collection, which has to be scheduled with the school and should have room for one failure. Before that is the research question, and that is where a block earns most of its value, because an unworkable question discovered during data collection cannot be rescued.

Research questions fail in predictable ways. Too broad to be answered in the space available. Dependent on apparatus the school does not have. Involving a variable that cannot practically be controlled. Or producing data with so little variation that no meaningful conclusion is available. A specialist can identify all four in a single conversation, which is why that conversation should happen a term before submission and not a fortnight before.

The criteria themselves are published, and roughly half the available marks concern research design, analysis and evaluation rather than the result. A student who runs a competent experiment and writes two sentences of evaluation loses marks that no additional data would have recovered. Self-marking a draft against each criterion, with the mark ceiling for each made explicit, is the highest-return session on this component.

05

Eight weeks before a chemistry paper

Eight weeks is the block most Sports City families ask for, usually after a mock. In chemistry it has a reasonably well-defined best use, and it is not working through the syllabus from the beginning. The content is too large and the dependencies mean the early weeks would be spent on material that may already be secure.

A better eight weeks starts with a diagnosis of where the student stops rather than what they do not know. One session of mixed questions from late topics, watching for the point of failure, separates a stoichiometry problem from an equilibrium problem from a presentation problem. The remaining seven weeks then have a target rather than a syllabus.

If the diagnosis is calculation layout, three weeks fixes it and the remaining weeks go to the two most examinable weak topics. If it is stoichiometry, the first four weeks clear the debt and the rest consolidates the topics that depend on it. If it is organic mechanism conventions, that is two weeks of convention work followed by drilled practice. Each of those is a different eight weeks.

What eight weeks will not do is cover two years of chemistry, and a provider who accepts the booking on that basis is selling hope. The table sets out what each diagnosis implies, which is the version of this conversation worth having before any money changes hands.

One further point about the eight weeks: the omissions should be written down. A plan that names what it will not revise is a plan a student can follow without guilt, and guilt is what drives the unproductive pattern of re-reading everything lightly. Deciding in week one that spectroscopic detail and nomenclature will be handled by self-study, and that two named topics will be left alone, frees the sessions to do work that shows up on a paper.

06

Where chemistry marks are withheld

  • Write the relationship before substituting; method marks depend on it
  • Round once, at the end, and carry units through every line
  • Name the intermolecular force, not the bond type, for boiling points
  • Balance half-equations for charge as well as for mass
  • Check enthalpy signs before moving on from any energetics answer

Chemistry mark schemes are specific about what they reward, and the reasons marks are withheld fall into a short and repeating list. Students who have never read a scheme alongside their own script are guessing at what earns credit, and the guessing is systematic rather than random.

The largest category is calculation presentation. The relationship not written before substitution, so method marks are unavailable. An intermediate value rounded and carried, so the accuracy mark goes. Units omitted. A concentration given in the wrong unit. Each is worth a mark, each repeats across the paper, and none is about chemistry.

The second is explanation specificity. A boiling-point question answered by naming the bond type instead of the intermediate force being overcome. A trend stated without nuclear charge and shielding named. 'The reaction is faster' offered where the scheme wants more frequent successful collisions. The chemistry is understood; the sentence does not contain the thing being marked.

The third is convention: half-equations unbalanced for charge, enthalpy signs reversed, curly arrows starting at atoms, oxidation states assigned without checking the total. All three categories are mechanical and all three respond to a few weeks of deliberate attention, which is why a first block should count them on a marked script before deciding to teach anything.

The counting exercise is worth doing at home before any tutor is involved. Take the last marked chemistry paper, go question by question, and put each lost mark into one of the three categories. If presentation and convention together account for most of the losses, the next block is a technique block and it will be shorter and cheaper than the content block a provider would otherwise propose. If genuine content gaps dominate, the block is longer and the expectations should be set accordingly from the start.

07

Higher or Standard Level, and when that decision closes

Higher Level chemistry extends every topic rather than appending a few, and adds a further written paper. The practical consequence is that the Higher Level course is not the Standard Level course with more reading: the depth changes within the familiar topics, which is why students who coped with IGCSE chemistry comfortably can still find the extensions hard.

The decision is usually made in the pre-Diploma year from IGCSE or MYP grades, which predict imperfectly. A better predictor is quantitative confidence: how fluently a student handles proportional reasoning, unit conversion and logarithms. Chemistry at Higher Level punishes hesitation there in every topic simultaneously, and a previous science grade does not measure it.

For students already in the first Diploma year and struggling, the question is whether to move down, and the honest answer depends on the intended degree. Medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and chemistry-adjacent engineering courses frequently name Higher Level chemistry, and for those the work is to rebuild the quantitative skills and stay. Where no such requirement exists, a strong Standard Level grade generally reads better than a weak Higher Level one.

Whatever the decision, it should be made in the first year rather than the second, because a move after organic chemistry has started leaves a student consolidating a different syllabus under time pressure. The date that matters is the school's own, and a Sports City family should ask the department directly when a level change stops being possible.

08

What two years of chemistry support actually costs

Families usually ask for an hourly rate and then commit to something much larger, so it is worth looking at the two years as a whole. The published hourly bands in this market are these. Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 at the university-student end. Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. TutorChase quotes AED 270. Bestimate places specialists at AED 200 to 450 and beyond, and BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium named end.

In-home visiting is quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and AED 200 to 500 by independent home tutors once travel is counted. Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions are AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support, with local packages advertised at around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. All of these are provider-published figures read in October 2026, and none is IB Gram's price list.

Totalled across two years, the mid band at weekly sessions reaches several thousand dirhams, which is a real decision rather than an incidental one. Set against Dubai school fees — and KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that fees would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year under Dubai's second economic incentives package — it is a smaller line item, but it is one worth spending deliberately rather than by default.

The deliberate version, in chemistry specifically, concentrates spending at two points: a short stoichiometry block in the first year, and a topic block in the second year once a mock has identified where the student stops. Those two together cost a fraction of two years of unmeasured weekly support and address the dependency pattern that causes the collapse in the first place.

09

Permits, claims and deliberate omissions

  • MoHRE private tuition permit: free, two years, Resolution No. 710 of 2023
  • KHDA oversees Dubai private schools; other emirates have their own regulators
  • No board or regulator accreditation is held or claimed; no UAE office exists
  • Board documents are linked at source, never reproduced or supplied
  • No statistic appears without a sample size, a date and a method

Private tuition in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Tutoring without one attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published.

Dubai's private schools are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, described by u.ae as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. ADEK covers Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, the Sharjah Private Education Authority covers Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah has its Department of Knowledge, and the federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. KHDA also requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum.

IB Gram holds no International Baccalaureate, Cambridge, Pearson, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA or Ministry of Education approval or accreditation, claims none, and operates no office or centre in the UAE. Tutors are not described as examiners without evidence of current status, and examiner status is never presented as access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content.

Three omissions here are deliberate. No IB session or results dates, because none could be verified from the IB itself. No syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes offered as downloads, because those belong to the boards and are referenced at source instead. And no success statistics, because a figure without a sample size, a date and a method cannot be checked by the reader and therefore proves nothing.

Where we tutor

Chemistry requests across these communities

The chemistry does not change with the postcode, but the week around it does, and so does the point in the year at which enquiries arrive.

Dubai Sports City

Short journeys home make a 4pm slot workable, which suits calculation drill while a student is still fresh. Enquiries here are often first-year students sent by a teacher rather than by a mock result.

Victory Heights

Secondary commutes out of the community push sessions later. Requests cluster in the second year and usually name organic chemistry or equilibrium explicitly.

Motor City

Weekday evenings crowded with sport, so a weekend morning block suits better. Ninety minutes on a Saturday is enough to work a calculation set and mark it in the same sitting.

Arabian Ranches and Ranches 2

The largest Diploma cohorts in this belt and the heaviest Higher Level chemistry demand. Families here ask about the level decision earlier than most, which is the more useful timing.

DAMAC Hills

Longer bus journeys and later starts. Two shorter sessions a week work better than one long one when a student is rebuilding stoichiometry alongside new content.

Town Square and Mudon

Mostly MYP and lower-secondary science. The high-value work here is proportional reasoning, which is what Diploma chemistry will later assume is automatic.

Remraam and Dubailand Residence

Commutes near an hour each way leave a narrow evening. Online delivery is what makes a second weekly session possible at all during an exam year.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the level and a marked paper

'Chemistry HL, second Diploma year, mock 4' is answerable; 'chemistry help' is not. The marked script matters more than the report, because the pattern of lost marks shows whether the problem is layout, stoichiometry, a specific topic or timing, and those need different blocks.

  2. 02

    Find where the student stops

The trial session uses mixed questions from late topics and watches for the point of failure rather than testing knowledge topic by topic. A student who stalls converting a concentration to moles has a first-term problem, and diagnosing that correctly is what stops a block being spent in the wrong place.

  3. 03

    Clear the dependency first

Where the diagnosis points upstream, the opening weeks go to stoichiometry even though the presenting complaint was organic chemistry or equilibrium. That ordering is unintuitive for families and it is the difference between a block that moves a mark and one that produces pleasant sessions.

  4. 04

    Weekly timed work, self-marked

Questions are set from past papers and marked by the student against the published scheme during the session, with every withheld mark named. Categories are logged across weeks, so a convention that keeps failing — unsigned enthalpies, unbalanced charge — becomes visible rather than re-explained.

  5. 05

    Review at four sessions

The target from session one is measured in writing at the halfway point. If the error log shows the same categories, the diagnosis, the tutor or the frequency changes at no cost. In an exam year, making that call at week four rather than week eight is the whole difference.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Dependency diagnosed before content is taught

Chemistry compounds, so most second-year failures are first-year debts. A block that teaches equilibrium to a student whose mole work is shaky feels productive and changes nothing. Finding where the student stops, rather than what they have not covered, is the first job of the trial session.

Calculation layout treated as marks

Method marks are awarded for the structure of the working: relationship stated, substitution shown, units carried, rounding left to the end. Students who compute confidently in their heads lose marks they have earned, and the habit takes about three weeks to change permanently.

Organic treated as a scheduling problem

The topic is taught late and usually once, so memorisation should run in the background from the week it starts and tutoring should land in the second half of the pass. A block that arrives after the pass has ended is doing repair rather than teaching, at a higher price.

Investigation planned around the laboratory

Data collection cannot be rescheduled the way an essay can, and a failed run needs a slot to repeat it. Counting backwards from the school deadline with laboratory access as the binding constraint is what prevents the common disaster of unusable data discovered too late.

Rates published with their sources

Every AED figure here names the provider that published it and the month it was read. Most pages competing for this search publish no price at all, and the two that do quote US dollars. A family should see where a quote sits in the market before agreeing to it.

Delivery and limits on the page

Lessons are live, one-to-one and online in Gulf Standard Time; no tutor is sent to a UAE address and home visiting runs only in India. No accreditation is claimed, no UAE office exists, no grade is promised, and no part of an investigation is produced for a student.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Sports City: your questions answered

Why did my child's chemistry grade collapse in the second Diploma year?+

Usually because the syllabus compounds and a first-year debt has come due. Organic chemistry and equilibrium both assume mole calculations are automatic rather than merely familiar, so a student who was managing with slow stoichiometry now has two obstacles in every quantitative question. The diagnostic is to give a late-topic question and watch where they stop. If they stall converting a concentration to moles, the problem is from the opening term and treating it as organic chemistry wastes the block.

Can an IB chemistry tutor come to a home in Dubai Sports City?+

Not through IB Gram. All UAE lessons are delivered live online, one to one, over video in Gulf Standard Time, and in-home visiting is a service offered only in India. Published in-home rates in this market run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour once travel is counted, against AED 150 to 300 for qualified online subject teaching. For chemistry the online screen is also the better surface, because calculation layout is what earns method marks and it can be watched line by line as it is written.

Which three chemistry calculations matter most at Diploma level?+

Moles from mass using molar mass, moles from concentration and volume for solutions, and limiting reagent or percentage yield work. Between them they underpin energetics, equilibrium, redox and much of organic chemistry. Each has a layout the mark scheme rewards: write the relationship, substitute with units, evaluate, then round once at the end. Installed as three templates and drilled under time, they take four to six sessions and remove a recurring loss across the whole course.

What makes organic chemistry mechanisms score badly even when the answer looks right?+

Conventions rather than chemistry. A curly arrow must start from a lone pair or a bond rather than from an atom, and must point to where the electrons go rather than towards the next atom. Charges have to appear on intermediates. Students who have learned mechanisms by copying finished diagrams reproduce the shape without the conventions and lose most of the available marks. Two weeks of explicit convention work followed by drilled practice usually resolves it.

When does the chemistry investigation need to be started?+

Ten weeks or more before the school deadline, because the middle of it requires laboratory access and a failed data run needs a slot to be repeated. Working backwards: the final week is formatting and a criterion check, the fortnight before is analysis and evaluation, and data collection sits six to eight weeks out with room for one failure. The research question has to be agreed before any of that, and an unworkable question discovered during collection cannot be rescued.

What actually changes between Standard and Higher Level chemistry in Year 12?+

It extends every topic rather than adding a few, and it carries a further written paper, so the depth increases inside familiar material. That is why students who found IGCSE chemistry comfortable can still find the extensions hard. The better predictor than a previous science grade is quantitative confidence: proportional reasoning, unit conversion and logarithms handled without hesitation. Higher Level punishes hesitation there in every topic at once rather than in one.

How much of the investigation mark is the experiment itself?+

Less than students assume. The published criteria cover research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, and roughly half the available marks concern process and communication rather than the result. A competent experiment written up with two sentences of evaluation under-scores badly, and no amount of extra data recovers those marks. Self-marking a draft against each criterion, with the mark ceiling for each stated, is the highest-return hour available on this component.

Can a tutor help with the chemistry investigation write-up?+

A tutor teaches the criteria, questions the variable control, discusses whether the data supports the conclusion and gives feedback on what the student has written. A tutor does not write, complete or produce any part of the report. That is an IB academic-honesty rule rather than a preference, and work a student did not produce becomes a malpractice finding against the student. Providers selling finished internal assessments are selling the candidate a risk, not a service.

What should a student revise in the last eight weeks before chemistry papers?+

Whatever the diagnosis names, not the syllabus from the start. If the losses are layout and presentation, three weeks on that plus five on the two most examinable weak topics. If stoichiometry is not automatic, four weeks clearing it and four consolidating what sits on top. If mechanisms are the problem, two weeks of conventions then drilled pathways. Eight weeks cannot cover two years of chemistry, and a plan that pretends otherwise covers everything badly.

Why does equilibrium produce such a wide spread of marks?+

Because students learn Le Chatelier's principle as a statement and are then asked to apply it to a specific perturbation. Reciting that a system shifts to oppose a change is easy; deciding what happens to the yield when pressure rises in a particular reaction with a particular mole ratio is a different task. The gap is diagnosable in one session by asking for three specific perturbations in a row, and it closes with drilled application rather than with re-explanation.

My child is in the first Diploma year and coping. Is tutoring premature?+

A short diagnostic is not premature and may be the cheapest intervention available. Chemistry's dependency structure means a first-year weakness that looks survivable becomes expensive in the second year, and the first year is when a stoichiometry debt can be cleared in four to six sessions without competing with new content. Acting then is a fraction of the cost of a second-year rescue, which is why the first-year enquiry is the one worth making.

Do enthalpy sign errors really cost that many marks?+

Enough to matter. An exothermic enthalpy change given as positive loses the mark however correct the arithmetic behind it, and the same convention recurs through calorimetry, Hess cycles and bond enthalpy calculations. Students treat it as a trivial slip and therefore never fix it, so it reappears in every series. The fix is procedural: check the sign before moving on from any energetics answer, every time, until it stops requiring thought.

What does a chemistry block cost across a Dubai exam year?+

Using Bestimate's published monthly estimates for weekly hour-long sessions, the specialist exam-year band runs AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more a month, and the mid band AED 600 to 1,200. Hourly figures behind them run from AED 33 to 65 at the university-student end up to AED 650 for premium named tutors, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200 and TutorChase at AED 270. All are provider-published market rates read in October 2026, not IB Gram prices.

Which chemistry topics should be left out of a short revision plan?+

The ones that are both well understood and lightly examined, and the detail at the far end of topics the student will not reach in the time. That decision has to be explicit rather than accidental, because a plan aiming at full coverage in six weeks leaves the recoverable marks undrilled. Nomenclature can usually move to self-study. Spectroscopic detail is often a reasonable omission. What should never be cut is calculation layout, because it earns marks everywhere.

Send the level and we will find where it stops

For an IB chemistry tutor in Dubai Sports City, the useful first message names the level and attaches the most recent marked paper. The trial session then uses mixed questions from the later topics to find the point at which the student actually stops, which is frequently a term earlier in the course than the presenting complaint suggests. From that it is possible to say what an eight-week block should contain and what it should deliberately leave out. Lessons are live online in Gulf Standard Time.
