IB Physics Tutor in Dubai Sports City

An IB physics tutor in Dubai Sports City is usually sought after the first full paper comes back, when a student who understood the lessons has scored well below expectation. This page compares what actually differs: Higher against Standard Level, physics against the other sciences, and a specialist against whoever is nearby. IB Gram teaches Sports City, Victory Heights and Motor City students live online, one to one, in Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Sports City

The three comparisons that decide a physics grade

Physics produces a particular kind of enquiry. The student is not confused, the teaching is not poor, and the homework has been done. The paper comes back anyway at a 4 or a 5 and nobody can say why. Parents in Dubai Sports City then compare options — a tutor from Motor City or one from Al Barsha, an agency or a platform, in person or online — when the comparison that would actually help is a different one.

The first comparison that matters is Higher against Standard Level, because they are not the same course with different reading loads. Higher Level adds syllabus depth in every topic and a further written paper, which changes both the content to cover and the shape of the examination. A student struggling at Higher Level in the first Diploma year has a genuine decision in front of them, and it is better made with evidence than with optimism.

The second is physics against the other sciences. Students pick physics for engineering, for medicine, or because a sibling did it, and the subject rewards something quite specific: comfort with algebraic rearrangement and with explaining a mechanism in words. A student strong at recall and weak at manipulation will find chemistry or biology less punishing, and that is worth knowing before Year 12 rather than during it.

The third is the one the search is actually about: a nearby tutor against a specialist. And here the comparison resolves the same way from every community in this belt. A Diploma cohort in Sports City, Victory Heights, Arabian Ranches or DAMAC Hills might contain a handful of Higher Level physics students in a given year. The pool of tutors who have taught the Higher Level extensions, rather than general secondary science, is small in every one of those communities equally.

IB Gram delivers all UAE tuition live, one to one and online over video in Gulf Standard Time. No tutor is sent to a Sports City address, and in-home visiting is a service offered only in India. What that buys in physics is a tutor matched to the level and to the components the student is failing, rather than to a twenty-minute driving radius that happens to contain a biology graduate.

The rest of the page works through those comparisons with data rather than adjectives: what Higher Level adds, where the marks are actually withheld on a physics paper, how much of the difficulty is mathematics wearing a physics hat, how practical work is examined when lessons are on a screen, and what the market charges for a specialist.

One note on dates before anything else. Dubai Diploma students sit the May session, and this page publishes no IB session or results dates because none could be verified from the IB directly. Confirm every date with the school's Diploma coordinator, who holds the internal deadlines that bind first in any case.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics enquiries from this part of Dubailand arrive from three stages, and what a block can do differs sharply between them.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Physics

Mechanics, thermal physics, waves, electricity and magnetism, circular motion and gravitation, atomic and nuclear physics, energy production and an option topic, with Higher Level extensions throughout. Assessed by written papers plus the scientific investigation, which is internally assessed against published criteria and moderated.

Dubai Diploma cohorts are small in physics compared with the other sciences, which is why a student needing help with a specific Higher Level extension often cannot find it inside their own school community. The investigation's data collection has to happen while school laboratory access is still available, which makes its timing less flexible than other coursework.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

MYP Sciences

Integrated or separate sciences assessed against four criteria, each marked out of 8 and converted by published boundaries. Criterion wording carries as much weight as content: a well-informed answer that ignores the strand named in the criterion scores in the middle band regardless of accuracy.

Students arriving at Diploma physics from MYP most often lack written explanation structure rather than content. A bridging block in MYP 5 focused on cause-and-effect writing and on rearranging formulae removes most of the first-term difficulty reported by Dubailand families.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Physics into the Diploma

Cambridge 0625 and Pearson 4PH1 cover motion, forces, energy, waves, electricity, magnetism and nuclear physics. The step to Diploma physics is in mathematical demand and in the length of reasoning expected, not in unfamiliar topics. Students who found IGCSE physics comfortable sometimes find Standard Level harder than they expected for that reason.

A summer bridging block between Year 11 and Year 12 is the common Sports City request: rearrangement, unit handling, and writing a three-step explanation. Six sessions is usually the whole intervention, and it is markedly cheaper than remediation in the second Diploma year.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics divides into a small number of demands, and a student is rarely weak in all of them. Each entry below names what the topic asks for and where the paper withholds marks.

Mechanics and kinematics

HL and SL

Motion graphs, equations of motion, forces, momentum and energy. Marks are lost to direction being dropped from a vector quantity and to sign conventions abandoned halfway through a problem. Momentum questions reward stating conservation explicitly before any arithmetic.

Circular motion and gravitation

HL and SL

Centripetal acceleration, orbital motion and gravitational fields, with Higher Level extending into potential and escape conditions. Students confuse the force providing centripetal acceleration with an additional force, which produces an extra term and a wrong answer that looks careless.

Thermal physics

HL and SL

Specific heat capacity, latent heat, the gas laws and kinetic theory. The reliable loss is unit conversion: temperatures left in degrees Celsius where kelvin is required, or volumes in litres where cubic metres are needed. Both are mechanical and both repeat every series.

Waves and oscillations

HL and SL

Wave characteristics, superposition, standing waves, the Doppler effect and, at Higher Level, further oscillation work. Phase and path difference questions separate the grades. Diagrams drawn and then never referenced in the written answer lose the analysis marks.

Electricity and circuits

HL and SL

Current, potential difference, resistance, internal resistance and circuit analysis. The common failure is answering 'explain why the reading falls' with a formula instead of a chain of consequence. The paper wants resistance rises, current falls, potential difference across the component falls.

Magnetism and induction

HL and SL

Magnetic fields, forces on conductors and, at Higher Level, electromagnetic induction and alternating current. Direction conventions are the whole difficulty: students who have not drilled the hand rules produce correct magnitudes with reversed directions.

Atomic, nuclear and particle physics

HL and SL

Radioactive decay, nuclear energy, binding energy and fundamental particles. Energy-mass calculations lose marks to unit choice between joules and electronvolts, and to rounding before the final step in a multi-stage answer.

Energy production

HL and SL

Energy sources, efficiency, Sankey diagrams and the physics of generation. Marks are accessible here and students under-prepare it because it feels descriptive. Efficiency questions still require the calculation to be set out, not asserted.

The scientific investigation

HL and SL

An individual investigation marked against published criteria covering research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Roughly half the available marks concern process and communication rather than the result, which is why a good experiment with two sentences of evaluation under-scores.

Mathematical skills inside physics

HL and SL

Rearrangement, indices, standard form, logarithms where required, gradients and uncertainties. Most difficulty labelled as physics is this. A student who cannot make a quantity the subject of an equation will stall in mechanics, circuits and thermal physics identically.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all delivered live online and one to one, distinguished by what the student writes each week.

Explanation-technique block

Weekly sessions spent writing physics in words: three-step causal chains, command-term discipline, and answers built to the structure the mark scheme rewards. The format for a student whose calculations are sound and whose written answers score badly, which describes most first enquiries.

  • Cause, mechanism, effect written explicitly in every answer
  • Command terms taught by definition and applied to real questions
  • Student marks their own answers against the published scheme

Mathematical rebuild inside physics

Rearrangement, indices, standard form, gradients and uncertainty handling, taught through physics problems rather than as abstract algebra. Slower than technique work and the right choice when the same mathematical step fails across mechanics, circuits and thermal physics alike.

  • Short frequent drills between sessions rather than long problem sets
  • Progress measured by rearranging under time, not by topics covered
  • Uncertainty and significant-figure rules installed once, properly

Investigation process block

Six to eight sessions timed backwards from the school deadline, covering research question, variable control, data handling and criterion-by-criterion self-review. The tutor teaches the criteria and gives feedback on the student's own writing, and produces no part of the report.

  • Research question narrowed until the data collection is feasible
  • Criteria taught by name with their mark ceilings made explicit
  • Feedback on the student's own draft only; no drafting on their behalf

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Sports City

01

What this search is really asking, and what is on offer

  • Delivery is live, online and one-to-one in Gulf Standard Time
  • The core skill is diagnosing a marked paper, not reciting physics
  • Mechanical mark losses usually outnumber genuine content gaps
  • No grade promised, and no part of the investigation written for the student

An IB physics tutor in Dubai Sports City means one-to-one Diploma physics teaching arranged outside school for a student in or around the Sports City master plan. IB Gram provides that live online over video in Gulf Standard Time. No tutor is sent to a UAE address and in-home visiting is a service offered only in India, which is stated here rather than discovered later.

The specific thing most families want is someone who can read a marked physics paper and say what went wrong. That is a narrower skill than knowing physics. It means recognising that a correct calculation lost its final mark to a rounded intermediate value, that an explanation scored two of four because it named the effect without the mechanism, and that a vector answer was marked down for having no direction. Those judgements come from having taught the course and marked its papers.

The second thing families want, usually unstated, is permission to believe the problem is fixable. It generally is, and the evidence sits in the paper itself. When lost marks are sorted by cause, the proportion that are mechanical — units, rounding, direction, working not shown, command term misread — is typically larger than the proportion that represent genuinely absent physics. Mechanical losses are teachable in weeks.

What is not on offer is a promised grade, a tutor described as an examiner without evidence, or any help with producing assessed work. A tutor teaches the investigation criteria, questions the method, discusses whether the data supports the conclusion and gives feedback on the student's own writing. Writing, completing or producing any part of it is a malpractice finding against the student, and no deadline justifies it.

02

Higher Level against Standard Level in physics

Higher Level physics is not Standard Level with extra reading. It extends the syllabus within each topic, adds an additional written paper, and asks for longer chains of reasoning on the same underlying content. A student can hold a reasonable Standard Level profile and find the Higher Level extensions genuinely difficult, because what the extensions demand most is mathematical confidence rather than more facts.

That makes the level decision a real one, and it is usually made in the pre-Diploma year on the basis of IGCSE or MYP science grades. Those grades predict Higher Level physics performance imperfectly, because IGCSE physics is far less mathematically demanding than the Higher Level extensions. A better predictor is how fluently a student rearranges equations and handles indices and standard form without hesitation.

Where a student is already in the first Diploma year and struggling, the question is whether to move down. The honest framing is about what the course is for: if the intended degree requires Higher Level physics, the work is to rebuild the mathematics and stay. If it does not, a strong Standard Level grade is worth more than a weak Higher Level one on almost any application, and the move should be made early enough for the student to consolidate.

The table compares the two on the dimensions that decide the choice. Precise weightings and option arrangements are published in the subject guide on the IB's own site and should be read there for the student's cohort, since they are revised between syllabus cycles.

03

Where physics marks are actually withheld

Physics mark schemes are precise, and the reasons they withhold marks fall into a short list. Learning that list is the fastest work available to a student in the second Diploma year, because each item recurs on every paper and each is mechanical rather than conceptual. Most students have never been shown a mark scheme and are therefore guessing at what earns credit.

The largest category is explanation structure. A question that says 'explain' wants a chain: a cause, the mechanism by which it acts, and the resulting effect. Students write the effect alone, or quote the relevant equation, and score a fraction. Writing three linked clauses rather than one is a habit, not an insight, and it transfers across every topic in the subject immediately.

The second is unit and direction discipline. Temperatures left in Celsius where kelvin is required. Volumes in litres where cubic metres are needed. A vector magnitude given with no direction. Energies in joules where electronvolts were asked for. Each costs a mark, each repeats, and all of them are fixed by procedure rather than by understanding.

The third is arithmetic presentation: rounding an intermediate value and carrying it forward, or holding the working in a calculator so no method marks are available. The table below sets these out with the specific fix for each, and it is designed to be held against a marked script. Counting which rows a student's lost marks fall into gives the order of work for the next eight weeks.

Why Sports City and Arabian Ranches reach the same answer

  • Higher Level physics is a minority subject inside a minority cohort
  • No Dubailand community has a deep local pool; the scarcity is structural
  • Community differences affect session timing only
  • The real comparison is distance-matching against level-matching

Families comparing communities expect one to be better served. For physics the comparison resolves identically everywhere in this belt, and the reason is arithmetic rather than geography. Higher Level physics is a minority subject inside a Diploma cohort that is itself a minority of a school's year group. A given school in Sports City, Victory Heights, Arabian Ranches or DAMAC Hills may have a handful of Higher Level physics candidates in a year.

A local tutor market sized to that demand cannot be deep. There is no community in Dubailand with a surplus of teachers who have covered the Higher Level extensions, taught induction properly, and marked the extended-response paper. The scarcity is not a Sports City problem being solved by moving to Motor City; it is a structural feature of a subject taken by few students across every community at once.

What differs between the communities is only the clock. Sports City students are home earliest because their schools sit inside the master plan. Motor City loses weekday evenings to sport. Victory Heights adds a commute. DAMAC Hills and Remraam add more. Those differences decide when a session is booked and nothing else, and they disappear entirely once the lesson arrives over video.

So the comparison a parent should run is not between neighbourhoods but between a tutor matched by distance and a tutor matched by level and component. The first is chosen from a pool of a few people free in one corridor on one evening. The second is chosen from everyone who has taught the course. For a subject with small cohorts, that is the only comparison with a different answer at the end of it.

05

Practical work when the lessons are on a screen

The question comes up in every physics enquiry: how does practical work happen if tuition is online? The answer separates two things that are often conflated. The laboratory is the school's job. Handling apparatus, taking readings under supervision, and watching an experiment behave unexpectedly are school experiences and cannot be replaced by any tutor, online or in a room.

What is assessed, though, is overwhelmingly the written craft around practical work. For the internally assessed investigation, the published criteria concern research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. For the written papers, data questions ask which variable should be controlled, how to handle uncertainty, whether a conclusion is supported, and what is wrong with a described method. All of that is teachable on a shared screen with real data in front of both people.

In practice the screen is a better surface for it. Graphs can be plotted, re-scaled and annotated live. Uncertainty bars can be added and their effect on a gradient shown immediately. A student's own data table can be marked against the criteria while they watch. Doing the same work on paper across a table means the tutor reads the table upside down and redraws the graph by hand.

The division of labour to state to a student directly is this: the school supplies the bench, and the marks for practical work are awarded for the thinking and the writing. Students who assume practical marks reward dexterity with apparatus are consistently surprised by how much of the assessment is about control of variables, uncertainty and evaluation of method.

06

Physics, chemistry or biology as the third science

  • Physics: equation fluency and written mechanism; light on memorisation
  • Chemistry: narrow calculation types plus a body of organic reactions
  • Biology: precise terminology and data interpretation, heaviest content load
  • A named degree prerequisite removes the choice; rebuild the maths instead
  • If the subject is wrong, the first Diploma year is when to move

A good proportion of physics enquiries from Sports City are really subject-choice enquiries in disguise. A student is struggling, and the underlying question is whether they should be taking this subject at this level at all. That is a fair question and it deserves a straight comparison rather than encouragement.

Physics rewards two things: fluency in rearranging equations, and the ability to explain a mechanism in words. It is relatively light on memorisation. Chemistry rewards calculation discipline in a narrower set of forms — moles, energetics, equilibrium — plus a substantial body of organic reactions that has to be known. Biology rewards precise terminology and careful data interpretation, with the largest volume of content to retain.

A student who recalls well and manipulates poorly will find biology least punishing and physics most. One who manipulates comfortably but dislikes memorising will find the reverse. That is not a statement about ability; it is about the shape of the assessment. A student aiming at a degree with a named prerequisite has less freedom, and in that case the work is to rebuild the mathematics rather than to change course.

Where the subject genuinely is wrong, the earlier the move the better, and the first Diploma year is where it can still be made cleanly. Where it is right but hard, the honest plan usually starts with a mathematical rebuild rather than with physics teaching, because the obstacle is upstream of the physics and no amount of topic revision will reach it.

07

What a physics specialist costs, and why

Specialist scarcity shows up in price, and it is worth understanding where the premium comes from before deciding whether to pay it. The published bands in this market run as follows. Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 at the university-student end. Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. TutorChase quotes AED 270. Bestimate puts specialists at AED 200 to 450 and beyond, and BartyED publishes AED 650 for premium named tutors.

In-home visiting is quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and AED 200 to 500 by independent home tutors once travel is counted, and monthly packages advertised locally include around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly hour sessions are AED 240 to 600 budget, AED 600 to 1,200 mid, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more in an exam year. All of these are provider-published figures read in October 2026 and none is IB Gram's price list.

For physics specifically the budget band is a poor fit, and it is worth saying plainly. A university student who passed physics can supervise homework. Reading a marked Higher Level script and identifying that an explanation scored two of four for naming the effect without the mechanism is a different skill, and it is the skill the enquiry is actually for. Paying the budget rate for that work usually means paying twice.

The in-home premium is a separate question and resolves against physics particularly clearly. The premium buys a journey. What the same money buys online is a tutor who has taught the Higher Level extensions. In a subject where a community might contain four Higher Level candidates, that is not a marginal improvement in choice — it is the difference between a specialist and the nearest available science graduate.

Permits, claims and what this page will not say

  • MoHRE private tuition permit: free, two years, Resolution No. 710 of 2023
  • No fine schedule is published; treat quoted amounts as unverified
  • No board or regulator accreditation is held or claimed; no UAE office exists
  • No IB dates published here; confirm with the school's Diploma coordinator
  • No statistic is published without a sample size, a date and a method

Private tuition in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Applications are made through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Those tutoring without a permit face fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published.

In Abu Dhabi there is an additional consideration, reported in the press rather than quoted from policy: ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff are reported to prohibit teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct is reported to bar the same. Any family relying on that should verify it against the current ADEK document. It is mentioned because 'your child's own teacher, privately' is a proposition sometimes offered and not one to accept lightly.

IB Gram holds no International Baccalaureate, Cambridge, Pearson, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA or Ministry of Education approval or accreditation, claims none, and operates no office or centre in the UAE. Tutors are not described as examiners unless current examiner status can be evidenced, and examiner status is never presented as access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content.

Two further omissions are deliberate. This page publishes no IB session or results dates, because none could be verified from the IB itself, and a wrong date a parent plans around does real damage. And it publishes no success statistics, because any figure without a sample size, a date and a method is unverifiable by the reader, which makes it worthless as evidence however good it looks.

Where we tutor

Physics demand from community to community

These are the communities around Sports City. The physics is the same in all of them; what differs is the size of the cohort and the time a session can start.

Dubai Sports City

Schools inside the master plan mean short journeys and an early slot. Higher Level physics requests here are few in number but specific, usually naming an option topic or induction.

Victory Heights

Students commute out for secondary, so sessions start later. Requests arrive mostly in the second Diploma year and mostly after a first full paper has been marked.

Motor City

Weekday evenings are crowded with sport. Weekend morning sessions suit physics well, because a ninety-minute block is enough to sit a paper section and mark it in the same sitting.

Arabian Ranches and Ranches 2

The largest Diploma cohorts in this belt, and still small in physics. Families here ask about the Higher Level decision more often than about rates, which is the better question.

DAMAC Hills

Longer bus journeys and later starts. Two sessions a week work better than one for a student rebuilding mathematical technique alongside physics content.

Town Square and Mudon

Mostly MYP and lower-secondary science enquiries. The valuable work here is written explanation structure, which transfers to every science the student later takes.

Remraam and Dubailand Residence

Long commutes leave a narrow evening window, so online delivery is the only format that leaves room for a second weekly session at all.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the level and a marked paper

'Physics HL, first Diploma year, last paper 4' is enough to decide whether a genuine specialist is available. The marked paper matters more than the report, because it shows whether the losses are explanation structure, units, arithmetic presentation or genuinely absent content.

  2. 02

    Diagnostic trial lesson

A full online session with the proposed tutor, spent sorting the lost marks on that paper by cause. It ends with a count: how many were mechanical, how many conceptual, and which two topics are genuinely weak. Parents receive that in writing, and nothing is committed.

  3. 03

    Mechanical losses first

Where the diagnosis is mixed, the first weeks target explanation structure, units and arithmetic presentation, because those transfer across every topic at once and produce a visible change early. Content gaps are addressed second, in order of how often they are examined.

  4. 04

    Weekly timed work, self-marked

Questions or paper sections are sat to time and marked by the student against the published scheme in the session, with every withheld mark named. The error log is kept across weeks, so a habit that keeps returning becomes visible instead of being re-explained.

  5. 05

    Review at four sessions

The target from session one is measured in writing. If the error log shows the same categories recurring, the block changes: a different diagnosis, a different tutor, or a different frequency. Making that decision at the halfway point rather than at the end saves a month of an exam year.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Levels matched separately

Higher Level physics adds depth in every topic and a further written paper, and the extensions demand mathematical confidence rather than more facts. A tutor matched to 'physics' may never have taught them. Matching to the level and to the failing component is the first thing that makes a block work.

Explanation taught as a structure

Most lost marks on a physics paper come from writing the effect without the mechanism, or quoting an equation where words were required. Three linked clauses — cause, mechanism, effect — is a habit rather than an insight, and it transfers to every topic in the subject within weeks.

The mathematics addressed upstream

A student who cannot rearrange fluently will stall in mechanics, circuits and thermal physics identically, and topic revision never reaches that. Where the diagnosis points upstream, the block starts with manipulation taught through physics problems rather than with more physics content.

Honest about scarcity

Higher Level physics is a minority subject in a minority cohort, so no community in this belt has a deep local pool. Where no specialist is free, families are told, with a realistic wait or a referral, rather than matched to a general science tutor described as a specialist.

Practical work divided honestly

The school supplies the laboratory; the tutor supplies the written craft that the marks are actually awarded for — variable control, uncertainty, data analysis and evaluation of method. Saying which half belongs to whom prevents a family paying for something a tutor cannot provide.

Claims kept to what is checkable

No board or regulator accreditation, no UAE office, no promised grade, no examiner status without evidence, no statistic without a sample size and a date, and no IB session date that could not be verified at source. Each omission is deliberate rather than an oversight.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Sports City: your questions answered

Is IB Physics Higher Level significantly harder than Standard Level?+

Yes, and the difference is not only extra reading. Higher Level extends the syllabus within each topic, adds a further written paper, and asks for longer chains of reasoning on the same content. What the extensions demand most is mathematical confidence rather than more facts, which is why fluent equation handling predicts Higher Level performance better than a previous science grade does. A student with weak manipulation will find the extensions hard regardless of how well they understood IGCSE physics.

Can a physics tutor visit a villa in Dubai Sports City?+

Not through IB Gram. All UAE lessons are delivered live online, one to one, over video in Gulf Standard Time, and in-home visiting is a service offered only in India. Published in-home market rates in Dubai run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour once travel is counted, against AED 150 to 300 for qualified online subject teaching. In physics the online pool matters more than in most subjects, because a community of this size may contain only a handful of Higher Level candidates and correspondingly few specialists.

My child understands physics in class but scores badly on papers. Why?+

Almost always because the written answers are not in the form the scheme pays for. 'Explain' questions want a chain — cause, mechanism, effect — and students write the effect alone or quote an equation instead. Add unconverted units, a vector given without direction, and an intermediate value rounded early, and a competent student loses a grade's worth of marks mechanically. Sort the lost marks on the last paper by cause; the mechanical count is usually the larger one.

How are physics practicals assessed if my child is tutored online?+

The marks for practical work are awarded for research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, and for the written data questions on the papers: which variable to control, how to handle uncertainty, whether a conclusion is supported, what is wrong with a described method. All of that is teachable on a shared screen with real data. Handling apparatus in a laboratory remains the school's part of the work and no tutor replaces it, online or otherwise.

Is my child in the wrong science, or just behind in physics?+

Test the mathematics first. Physics rewards fluent rearrangement and the ability to explain a mechanism in words, and it is comparatively light on memorisation. A student who recalls well and manipulates poorly will find biology less punishing and physics most. If the intended degree names physics as a prerequisite, the answer is to rebuild the manipulation rather than to change subject. If it does not, a strong Standard Level grade usually beats a weak Higher Level one.

When should the scientific investigation be started?+

Early enough that data collection can fail once and be repeated, which in practice means agreeing the research question a term before the school deadline. Laboratory access is the binding constraint, so the data cannot simply be rescheduled the way an essay can. Roughly half the available marks concern process and communication rather than the result, so a competent experiment written up with two sentences of evaluation under-scores badly against the published criteria.

Can a tutor help write up my child's physics investigation?+

A tutor can teach the criteria, explain the mark ceiling on each, question the variable control, discuss whether the data supports the conclusion and give feedback on what the student has written. A tutor cannot write, complete or produce any part of it. That is an IB academic-honesty rule rather than a house preference, and work a student did not produce becomes a malpractice finding against the student, whatever pressure the deadline is applying.

Which physics topics cause the most trouble for Dubai students?+

Electricity and circuits, where explanation questions are answered with formulae instead of causal chains; magnetism and induction, where direction conventions decide the marks; and thermal physics, where unit conversion between Celsius and kelvin or litres and cubic metres is the recurring loss. Circular motion produces a specific confusion: students treat the force providing centripetal acceleration as an extra force, which adds a term and produces an answer that looks like carelessness.

How much of physics difficulty is really mathematics?+

A large share of it. Rearrangement, indices, standard form, gradients and uncertainty handling run through mechanics, circuits and thermal physics alike, so a student who stalls at the same algebraic step in three different topics has one problem rather than three. The diagnostic is simple: ask them to make a quantity the subject of an equation and watch the hesitation. Where the obstacle is upstream, physics revision never reaches it.

Does it matter that our Diploma cohort has only four Higher Level physics students?+

It matters for finding a tutor, which is the structural reason this search is difficult. A local market sized to four candidates cannot be deep, and that holds in every Dubailand community rather than only in one. It is also why availability tightens across the whole emirate at the same point in the year, after mock results. Booking before the mock window rather than after it is the practical response, and it costs nothing to ask early.

What should a student do with the extra Higher Level paper?+

Sit it to time, early, and expect the first attempt to be poor. Higher Level students commonly meet their additional paper for the first time in a mock, which measures unfamiliarity as much as physics. Attempting it in the first term of the second Diploma year, then again a few weeks later, converts a shock into information. The technique is partly about tolerance: writing something for every part, since partial credit exists and a blank earns nothing.

How long does a physics block need to be?+

Four to six sessions for explanation structure and unit discipline, which transfer across every topic and show up quickly on a marked paper. Eight sessions for two or three genuinely weak topics drilled against past questions. One to two terms if the real obstacle is mathematical fluency, because that is built with short frequent practice rather than taught in a lesson. Any quote given before someone has read a marked script is guesswork.

What does a Higher Level physics specialist cost in Dubai?+

Published specialist rates run from AED 200 to 450 and beyond, with TutorChase quoting AED 270 and Bestimate placing specialists in the same range. Qualified online subject teaching is published from AED 200 for IB by Unitors. The budget band of AED 33 to 65 an hour, where Tutopiya and EdFlik advertise, buys homework supervision rather than script diagnosis. All figures are provider-published and were read in October 2026; none is IB Gram's own price list.

Will moving from Higher to Standard Level physics harm a university application?+

It depends entirely on the course. Some degrees in engineering and the physical sciences name Higher Level physics as a requirement, and for those the answer is to rebuild the mathematics and stay. Where no such requirement exists, a strong Standard Level grade generally reads better than a weak Higher Level one on an application. The decision should be made against the admissions pages of the specific universities and courses under consideration, early in the first Diploma year.

Send the level and the marked paper

For an IB physics tutor in Dubai Sports City, the message that gets a real answer names the level and attaches the most recent marked paper. From that it is possible to say how many of the lost marks were mechanical, which two topics are genuinely weak, whether the obstacle is actually mathematical, and how long a block would need. The trial lesson is a full diagnostic session with the proposed specialist, delivered live online in Gulf Standard Time, and it ends with that count in writing.
