Female IB Tutor in the UAE

A family asking for a female IB tutor in the UAE is usually asking two questions at once: who is legally allowed to teach my child privately here, and who will my daughter actually talk to about the Exploration she is stuck on. This page answers both. It sets out the permit rule every private tutor in the UAE works under, which of five authorities licenses your child's school, what this market charges in AED, and how IB Gram delivers one-to-one IB tuition live online across all seven emirates.

  • Every lesson is one-to-one and delivered live online
  • Availability for a gender preference is answered before payment
  • Tutors confirm where they stand on the MoHRE tuition permit
  • A free first lesson of one hour, no card details needed

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

The two things a UAE parent is really checking

Parents in the UAE ask for a female IB tutor for reasons that are rarely the same twice. A Grade 11 girl at a Dubai IB school may simply find it easier to admit she has not understood binomial expansion to a woman. A family following a more conservative household practice may want a female tutor for one-to-one work with a daughter as a matter of course. An Arabic-speaking household may be looking for a woman who can teach Islamic Education and Arabic as a first language, because those two subjects are compulsory in every private school in Dubai whatever curriculum the school is licensed to teach. All three requests are reasonable, and none of them is a judgement about teaching quality.

What those requests run into is a supply problem that no page competing for this search describes honestly. A gender preference narrows an already narrow pool. There are not many people in this country who can teach Physics at Higher Level to the standard a 7 demands, and asking that the same person also be female, free at 5pm Gulf Standard Time, and not employed by your own daughter's school cuts the list again at every step. An agency promising an instant match in any subject with any preference is promising something the arithmetic will not support.

The second question is legal, and almost nobody in this market touches it. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated. Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 introduced the private tuition work permit, issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and the federal portal at u.ae states that individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE will be subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. The permit is granted free of charge for two years. Registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18 can all apply. A parent who knows that can ask one question which separates a serious tutor from an opportunist.

Then there is the school system itself. Your child's school is not overseen by a single national body. Dubai answers to KHDA, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain to ADEK, Sharjah to the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah to its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah to the federal Ministry of Education. Those bodies set different reporting rhythms, consider fee changes on different terms, and in Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah approve curricula and assessment methods outright. A tutoring plan that ignores which authority your school reports to will keep missing deadlines that the school does not control.

So this page is built around the regulatory and school-system context a UAE family cannot opt out of. It covers who may lawfully tutor and how you verify it, what the compulsory UAE subjects do to a Diploma week, what the market charges in AED and why a preference moves waiting time rather than price, where the line sits on an Internal Assessment, and what the Ministry of Education wants to see before a certificate is recognised inside the country. Lessons are one-to-one, delivered live online, and scheduled to Gulf Standard Time.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

IB Gram covers the three IB programmes UAE schools run most, plus the Career-related Programme where a school licenses it. The note under each programme is about this country specifically: which authority reports on the school, where the mandatory UAE subjects sit in the week, and at which point a request for a female tutor is most commonly made.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The PYP sets no external examinations. Learning is organised into transdisciplinary units of inquiry, and progress is reported against conceptual understanding and learner-profile attributes rather than subject marks. Support at this stage is about reading fluency, number sense and the written and spoken English a unit of inquiry quietly assumes. A parent who cannot find a grade on a PYP report is not missing anything: the programme does not produce one, which is also why a problem can sit unnoticed for two years.

A Dubai PYP school still has to deliver Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies under KHDA rules, and KHDA calculates the required instructional time in 40-minute lesson units. For many families this is where a female tutor is first requested, usually for Arabic reading with a younger daughter who started the language two years behind her classmates and has been quietly behind ever since.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

The MYP assesses against four criteria per subject, each marked out of 8, converted to a 1-7 grade by subject-specific boundaries. There is no past-paper bank to drill, which is exactly what unsettles families arriving from a CBSE or British background. The Personal Project in the final year is the first piece of work that must demonstrably be the student's own, supervised rather than taught, and it is the first time a UAE student meets a formal academic-honesty declaration.

MYP Year 11 is the pressure point in the UAE, because one year carries the Personal Project, the subject choices that lock in Higher Level options, and in Dubai the mandatory subject load KHDA requires. Families wanting a female tutor for a daughter often start here, and ask for someone who can hold a student through the Personal Project process without touching the writing.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Internal assessment carries real weight in every subject and is marked by the teacher against published criteria before external moderation. The May session is the one UAE schools sit. Most of the grade is settled by work done between October and March of the final year, not by revision in April, which is why a January start and an April start are different purchases.

UAE Diploma students carry the mandatory UAE subjects on top of six IB courses in most private schools, which is why a Diploma week here is heavier than the same week in London. Scheduling matters as much as total hours: a session set at 5pm or 6pm Gulf Standard Time, after the school run and before the evening goes, gets used. One pushed to 9pm in the week an IA draft is due does not.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The CP pairs at least two Diploma courses with a career-related study, a reflective project, and a core of personal and professional skills, service learning and language development. A smaller number of UAE schools license it, usually alongside the Diploma. Support concentrates on the Diploma courses the student has taken and on the reflective project, which is supervised work and must remain the student's own from research question to final draft.

Because CP enrolment in the UAE is small, a gender-specific request is harder to fill here than at Diploma level, and we say so at the point of asking rather than after a deposit. Where no female specialist covers the Diploma course a CP student is taking, the honest options are a male specialist, a stated wait, or a different session time.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IB subjects UAE families request most. Each line says what the subject actually assesses and where marks go missing, because that is what tells a parent whether one hour a week will move anything. Where a family wants a female IB Diploma tutor, availability for that specific subject and level is confirmed at the enquiry rather than assumed.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Three papers at Higher Level, two at Standard, plus a 20-mark Exploration. Paper 3 is an extended problem-solving paper and the one that separates a 6 from a 7. Marks go missing in proof, in complex numbers, and in criterion E of the Exploration, where students do mathematics below the level of their own course.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics, modelling and technology-heavy work, with the graphic display calculator assumed throughout. Most UAE students who move from Analysis to Applications do it in the first term of DP1, usually a term later than they should. The Exploration carries the same 20 marks, and the same trap: a correlation coefficient and a bar chart will not reach the top band.

Biology

HL and SL

A concept-led syllabus organised around unity and diversity and form and function. Paper 1 pairs multiple choice with the data-based section; Paper 2 rewards precise reading of command terms. The Scientific Investigation is the internal assessment, and the marks nobody sees coming are in evaluation, where students describe limitations instead of weighing their effect on the conclusion.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms, energetics and equilibrium account for most lost marks at Higher Level. The syllabus is structured around structure and reactivity, and questions increasingly ask a student to apply both inside one answer. Higher Level content is examined in the same papers as the core, so a topic skipped in DP1 returns in May with interest.

Physics

HL and SL

The gap between a 5 and a 7 is almost always algebra under time pressure rather than conceptual confusion. Fields, circular motion and the Higher Level extensions carry the heaviest mark loss. The internal assessment rewards a tightly controlled question; broad investigations run out of usable data long before they reach a defensible conclusion.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is an unseen guided analysis, Paper 2 a comparative essay on studied texts, with the Individual Oral assessed internally and an HL Essay added at Higher Level. Students in UAE schools often read well and write generically. Marks come back for the quality of an argument about the text rather than a summary of it.

English B

HL and SL

For students who use English confidently but not as a first language. Receptive skills, writing and the individual oral are assessed separately, and the oral is where fluent speakers still lose marks by describing the stimulus instead of arguing from it. Range of vocabulary is marked, and rehearsed phrasing is visible to an examiner immediately.

Arabic B and Arabic ab initio

HL and SL

Two different courses for two different students: ab initio for near-beginners, Arabic B for those with real prior exposure. UAE families often discover in DP1 that a child placed in Arabic B after years in an international school is sitting the harder of the two. This is the subject where a female tutor is requested most often.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and definition precision carry more marks than essay length. Higher Level adds the quantitative paper, which punishes students who learned the diagrams but never the calculations behind them. The internal assessment is three commentaries on published news articles, each to a strict word limit and each marked against its own criteria.

Business Management

HL and SL

The pre-release case study for Paper 1 rewards months of preparation and is routinely left until April. Higher Level Paper 2 includes quantitative work. The Higher Level internal assessment is a research project on a real organisation, which means a research question narrow enough to answer with evidence the student can actually obtain.

Islamic Education and UAE Social Studies

Mandatory streams

Compulsory in Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, taught in separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students under KHDA rules. Content is set by the Ministry of Education, and schools may not use different or additional material without prior permission. Support here is about the set content and the language of instruction, not enrichment.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three or four session patterns cover almost every UAE request. All of them are one-to-one and delivered live online over video, with a shared whiteboard and the student's own school material on screen. Group classes are not offered, because the point of a one-to-one hour is that it follows one student's errors.

Weekly one-to-one through the term

One sixty-minute session a week with the same specialist, timed to Gulf Standard Time and set around the school run. This is the pattern that moves a grade, because it tracks the school's own sequence of topics rather than running a parallel syllabus beside it. The tutor reads the last piece of marked work before each session and plans from that, not from a generic scheme.

  • The same tutor each week in the same slot
  • Planned from the school's topic sequence
  • A written note after every session
  • Pauses for school examinations and family travel

Pre-session intensive block

A short, dense block in the eight to ten weeks before the May session, usually two sessions a week, built around paper technique and the specific components a student is weakest on. It is not a substitute for a year of teaching and we say so: a block can repair exam technique and timing, but it cannot install a missing topic list.

  • Two sessions a week for eight to ten weeks
  • Component by component, worked under timed conditions
  • Marked against the published assessment criteria
  • A realistic read on what is still recoverable

Mandatory UAE subjects stream

Support for Arabic as a first language, Arabic as an additional language, Islamic Education and UAE Social Studies, which Dubai private schools must deliver whatever curriculum they are licensed for. Sessions follow the set Ministry of Education material, because for these subjects schools may not use different or additional content without prior permission.

  • Arabic as a first language and as an additional language
  • Islamic Education for the Arab and non-Arab streams
  • UAE Social Studies and Moral, Social and Cultural studies
  • Set content only, never a substitute curriculum

Internal assessment supervision hours

Single booked hours for the Mathematics Exploration, a science Scientific Investigation, the Extended Essay or the TOK essay, rather than a standing weekly slot. The work stays the student's own throughout. A tutor questions the research question, reads one draft against the published criteria, and says where an argument is unsupported.

  • The research question tested before data collection starts
  • A draft read against the criteria the examiner uses
  • Feedback in writing, so the school can see it
  • No writing, no rewriting, no supplied material

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What a request for a female IB tutor actually changes

  • A preference narrows the pool; it does not change the syllabus
  • Arabic and Islamic Education draw the most requests for a female tutor
  • Availability, including the wait, is answered before any payment
  • Every UAE lesson is one-to-one and delivered live online

Nothing in the syllabus. Paper weightings, command terms and assessment criteria are identical whoever teaches them, and an examiner cannot tell from a script who sat opposite the student in September. What a preference changes is the arithmetic of the match. The number of people in this country who can teach Physics at Higher Level to the standard a 7 demands is small to begin with. Ask that the same person be female, free at 5pm Gulf Standard Time, and not employed by your daughter's own school, and the list shortens at every step.

That is worth saying plainly because the pages competing for this search do not say it. Three of the six strongest pages in this market publish no price at all, and none of them publishes a coverage limit of any kind. A platform promising any subject with any preference matched immediately is describing a wish rather than a roster. Families asking for female IB tutors in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah are usually told yes and then handed whoever happens to be free. The result is a trial lesson with the wrong person and a parent who concludes that tutoring does not work.

The reasons behind the request vary, and interrogating them is not our business. Some are about a teenage girl's willingness to admit confusion out loud. Some are about household practice. Some are specific to a subject: a female Arabic as a first language tutor, or a female Islamic Education tutor in Dubai, is requested far more often than a female Economics tutor, because of who teaches those subjects in schools here. We treat the preference as a filter on the match and answer the only question that decides anything, which is whether somebody suitable is free.

So the order of this page is deliberate. Availability first, legality second, cost third. What follows sets out who may lawfully tutor in the UAE and how a parent verifies it, which of five regulators governs your child's school, how the compulsory UAE subjects reshape a Diploma week, what this market charges in AED, and where the line sits on work that must be the student's own.

02

Who is legally permitted to tutor your child in the UAE

Private tutoring here is a licensed activity. Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 introduced private tuition work permits, and the federal portal at u.ae lists them among the permits issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. The permit is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee and a two working day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

u.ae also states that individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE will be subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No schedule of amounts is published anywhere official, and a figure circulating online could not be matched to a ministry source, so this page quotes none. What a parent needs from the rule is not an amount but a question: does this person hold the permit, and when does it expire? Anybody who holds it answers in one sentence and without changing the subject.

The second half of the rule is about who a tutor may teach. The permit carries a code of conduct that bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school, and in Abu Dhabi the ADEK professional ethics rules prohibit private and charter school staff from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school. Teachers tutoring outside school hours need the permit in any case. Treat the ADEK wording as press-reported and check the current policy document, but the practical effect is the same in every emirate: do not buy your child's own teacher.

A tutoring business is a separate legal animal from an individual tutor. An operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, which begins with initial approval, allows a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and is renewed annually with the request made at least 30 days before expiry. IB Gram runs no premises in the UAE and holds no such permit, which is one reason every lesson for a UAE family is delivered online.

Five regulators, seven emirates, one school report to read

Parents arriving from the UK or India often assume a single national schools inspectorate. The UAE divides that job five ways. Dubai's Knowledge and Human Development Authority is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi's Department of Education and Knowledge supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools, covering Al Ain as well as the capital. The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge does the same there, and the federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.

Those bodies do not all do identical work. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, which is a far wider remit than inspection. KHDA publishes the mandatory subject requirements every Dubai private school must implement, and confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package. ADEK, the regulator of the capital, is named by none of the competing tutoring pages examined for this project.

For a tutoring plan this is not trivia. The authority governing your school influences when reports land, when fee changes are considered, and in two emirates which assessment methods a school may use at all. A plan built around a Dubai school's reporting cycle will be out of step in Sharjah, and a parent who quotes KHDA guidance to an Ajman school is quoting the wrong body. Underneath all of it sits one federal rule: private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. That rule is why the next section exists.

The compulsory UAE subjects that sit alongside the IB

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum. KHDA's requirements had to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April. A Diploma student at a Dubai IB school is therefore carrying six IB courses, Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service, plus the mandatory UAE subjects in the same week. Any tutoring plan treating a UAE Diploma week as equivalent to a London one has already mis-budgeted the student's available hours.

The KHDA mandatory subjects guidelines are specific about organisation, and worth reading before you ask a school a question. For Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because of the different curriculum expectations and language of instruction. Standard Arabic is the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, Arabic is the primary language for Social Studies for Arab students, and for non-Arabs Islamic Education and Moral, Social and Cultural studies are delivered in the school's licensed-curriculum language.

Two further details shape what support can honestly look like. KHDA calculates mandatory-subject instructional time in 40-minute lesson units, allows schools to vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and advises that any mandatory subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes. And for these subjects the use of any different or additional content, without prior permission from the Ministry of Education, is strictly prohibited. Tutoring in this stream therefore follows the set material at the school's pace, and schools must separately ensure their own teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate KHDA approval to teach them.

What this market charges, and what a preference does to the number

Nobody competing for these searches publishes a rate table, so here is one, built from what competitors publish on their own pages and from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 figures, read in October 2026. These are market rates, not IB Gram's price list. The spread is wide for a real reason: an hour with a university student revising IGCSE Maths and an hour with a Diploma specialist dismantling a Physics Higher Level Paper 3 are different products that happen to be sold by the same unit of time. That is what IB tutoring rates in AED look like across this market.

Monthly figures seen in the same market run to roughly AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour sessions with a tutor travelling to the family. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. Read those against the school fee they sit beside: KHDA confirmed no fee increase for Dubai private schools in 2026-27, so a tutoring decision this year is not competing with a fee rise.

A gender preference appears in none of these bands, and it should not. What it moves is waiting time. At the qualified-online tier the pool is broad enough that a female IB tutor is usually available within days. At the specialist end, where a subject may have only a handful of people in the country teaching it at Higher Level, a preference can add a week or change the slot you are offered. The same holds for a female IGCSE tutor in the UAE, where the pool is wider because more teachers work to IGCSE level than to Higher Level. IB Gram's own figure comes from a consultation after the free first lesson rather than from a chart, because the right number depends on the subject, the level and how many sessions are genuinely needed.

A tutor who travels to you, or one-to-one live online

The phrase most UAE parents type is some version of a home tutor, and the request behind it is reasonable. Somebody who travels to the family removes the problem of a teenager who will not settle in front of a screen, and with a younger child it keeps an adult in the room. It also costs more. Market rates for a tutor travelling to a UAE address run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online, and the difference is mostly the journey rather than the teaching.

Then there is the clock. A 5pm start in a Dubai Marina tower or a Khalifa City villa depends on Sheikh Zayed Road behaving itself, and a tutor who has committed to four families in one evening has to leave each one on time whether or not the student has finished the question. The deeper problem is the pool. A family hiring locally chooses from whoever is willing to drive to their community, which in Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain or Al Ain may be nobody holding a Higher Level science. The same family choosing online chooses from everybody free at that hour.

IB Gram's position is plain and it is the same on all 48 country pages on this site. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one and delivered live online over video, on a shared screen with the student's own school material open beside the working. IB Gram does not arrange for anybody to travel to a UAE address; home visiting is a service we offer only in India. We would rather lose an enquiry that wants a doorbell than take a deposit for something we do not sell. The table sets the two options against each other on the dimensions that actually decide it.

Academic honesty: what a tutor may and may not touch

The IB's academic-honesty rules make assessed work the student's own, and the consequences of breaching them land on the student rather than the tutor. That is precisely why this section belongs on a page selling tutoring. Internal assessment carries real weight in every Diploma subject and is marked by the school against published criteria before external moderation, so it is also the part of the course where a parent is most tempted to buy help rather than teaching. At least one page ranking for these searches sells completed Internal Assessments outright. That is a malpractice trigger, and it is not a service we compete to provide.

What a tutor can legitimately do is substantial. A tutor can press on a research question until it is narrow enough to answer with evidence the student can actually obtain. A tutor can explain which criterion the marks hang on, read one draft against those criteria, and say where an argument is unsupported or a limitation has been described rather than weighed. In Mathematics, the twenty marks of the Exploration are divided across five criteria, and criterion E alone, use of mathematics, carries six of them. A student who knows that spends their final fortnight differently.

What a tutor cannot do is write, restructure, rewrite or supply the work, choose the topic, or hand over material a student then presents as their own. We also do not reproduce or distribute IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes: we cite the official page and link to it, because reproducing them is a copyright problem and, for unreleased material, something worse. Feedback is given in writing so a school can see exactly what was said and when. If a service offers to produce assessed work for your child, the risk it creates sits with your child's diploma.

The school year, Ramadan and when the work actually happens

  • Plan backwards from the school's internal deadlines, not the exam window
  • Cambridge entry deadlines close months before the papers are sat
  • Check your centre's administrative zone before trusting a timetable
  • Move the recurring slot for Ramadan rather than cancelling weeks

The May session is the one UAE Diploma schools sit, and most of a grade is settled between October and March of the final year rather than in April. Internal assessments, the Extended Essay and the TOK essay all come due inside that window, which is also when school mock examinations land. These pages publish no IB session or results dates: ibo.org blocks automated checking, so no IB date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself. Take yours from your school's IB coordinator or from ibo.org directly, and plan backwards from the school's internal deadlines rather than from the examinations.

For IGCSE and A-Level the dates are published, and they are the clearest worked example of how early entries close. Cambridge International runs a June series and a November series in the UAE, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October; those Checkpoint tests are not IGCSE papers, and the February and March IGCSE series that exists elsewhere is offered to India only. For a girl sitting here, then, the choice is June or November, and the entry that commits her to one of them is made by the school months before she sits anything, with forecast grades following while teaching is still running. Pearson shows the same shape in hard numbers: its November 2026 International GCSE timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and the November 2025 results did not reach students until 22 January 2026. Every Cambridge centre is also allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge warns that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams run in May or June and in November, with the November 2026 final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of a series, so always open the live official timetable rather than trusting a date restated on a tutoring page. Around all of this sits Ramadan: school days shorten, and a Ramadan tutoring schedule normally means an early afternoon slot after a shortened school day, or a post-Iftar session in the evening. Online delivery is what makes either workable, because nobody has to drive.

Ministry of Education equivalency, and the number we will not publish

Equivalency is how the Ministry of Education recognises a school certificate for use inside the UAE, and it is the step families discover late. For the British track, the requirements clarified in July 2026 are five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no less than E or grade 3, together with one accredited subject at the Advanced Level at no less than E, or two accredited subjects at the Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects, which surprises most families who had assumed the opposite.

For the American track, English proficiency is evidenced by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT test, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. At least one page ranking for these searches states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects. The figure reported in July 2026 is five. Publishing the correct number is not a small matter when a family is choosing Year 9 subjects on the strength of it.

The IB row in the table is deliberately unfilled. The source we read states no IB points threshold, and an invented threshold on a page like this would do real damage to a family's planning, so the honest entry is to verify. Check MoE equivalency for IB students on moe.gov.ae, or with the attestation authority in your own emirate, and get the answer in writing before you build subject choices around it. IB Gram does not perform, submit or guarantee any part of equivalency or attestation, and tutoring is not a requirement for any of it.

What happens when no female specialist is free

No page competing in this market discloses a coverage limit, which means every one of them implies full coverage of every subject at every level in every emirate. That is not true of anybody, and it is not true of us. A UAE-based specialist for Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, free at 5pm Gulf Standard Time, who is female and not employed by your daughter's school, is a genuinely narrow set. Pretending otherwise produces the familiar sequence: a confident yes, a mismatched first lesson, and a family that gives up on tutoring altogether.

So the answer arrives before the invoice. Within a working day you are told whether a specialist matching your request is free, which Gulf Standard Time slots are open, and where that person is based. If the honest answer is a four-day wait, you get the four days. If the only person covering Chemistry at Higher Level in your slot is male, you are told so and can decide whether the preference or the specialism matters more for that one subject. Keeping the preference for English and Arabic while taking the available Chemistry specialist is a common and perfectly sensible outcome.

Where no UAE-based specialist covers a subject at the level required, the lesson is delivered online by an IB specialist based in India, teaching at your Gulf Standard Time slot. We say so before the first lesson rather than letting a family work it out from an accent. That disclosure is the whole point: a family that knows what it is buying can judge it fairly. Online IB tuition in the UAE works because the format makes a tutor's location irrelevant to everything except the clock, and the clock is the part we manage.

11

Safeguarding, session conduct and the data we hold

A one-to-one lesson with a minor needs rules a parent can check rather than assurances they have to accept. Sessions run on the family's own device, in a shared room if the family prefers, and a parent is welcome to sit in. After every session a written note says what was covered, what was set and what comes next, which gives a parent visibility without turning the hour into a performance. With a Year 12 or 13 student that note is usually more useful than attendance, because a teenager who knows a parent is listening admits to less confusion, not more.

The permit's code of conduct and, in Abu Dhabi, the ADEK professional ethics rules already bar a tutor from serving students enrolled at their own school. We ask that question at the match stage rather than leaving a parent to discover it at a parents' evening. A tutor is also asked which board and level they are currently teaching, because somebody who last taught the Diploma four syllabus revisions ago is a different proposition from somebody marking Higher Level work this term. Neither question is adversarial; both are the kind a school would ask.

Data is the part most tutoring sites skip. Lead forms in this market routinely ask for a child's school, grades and a photograph with no stated purpose at all. Ours asks for the subject, the level, the year group, the board and a parent contact, which is what a match genuinely needs. We hold it under UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on Personal Data Protection, use it to match a specialist and attach session notes to the right student, and delete it on request, session notes included. The privacy link sits on every page of this site.

Where we tutor

Which authority regulates your child's school

There is no single national schools regulator in the UAE. Five bodies divide the seven emirates between them, and they do not all do the same job. The notes below say who governs what, taken from the federal portal at u.ae, and what each one changes about the way tutoring should be planned.

Dubai

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. KHDA also publishes the mandatory-subject requirements every Dubai private school must implement, and confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees would not rise for 2026-27.

Abu Dhabi

The Department of Education and Knowledge supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate, and is named by none of the competing tutoring pages examined for this project. Its professional ethics rules are the reason a teacher cannot take payment to tutor a student from their own school.

Al Ain

Covered by ADEK alongside Abu Dhabi city, with a smaller Diploma cohort and a much longer travel radius. For families here the online format removes the only genuine constraint on specialist choice, which is how far a tutor is willing to drive on a weekday evening.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in the emirate, and its remit extends to approving tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. That is broader than inspection, and worth knowing before assuming a Dubai school's calendar applies here.

Ajman

The federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, together with Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Families here often commute into Dubai or Sharjah schools, which pushes a realistic session start past 5.30pm Gulf Standard Time on a normal school day.

Ras Al Khaimah

The Department of Knowledge regulates private education in the emirate and, like Sharjah's authority, approves fees, curricula and assessment methods. Ras Al Khaimah returned no mentions at all across the competitor pages examined for this project, which tells you how thinly this emirate is served.

Fujairah

Private schools come under the federal Ministry of Education. The IB cohort is small and a specialist for a Higher Level science is unlikely to live within driving distance, which makes online delivery a practical answer here rather than a marketing preference.

Umm Al Quwain

Also supervised by the federal Ministry of Education. Families here are the clearest case for the online format: a Chemistry Higher Level specialist, or a female Arabic first-language teacher, is matched on subject and availability rather than on postcode.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai

Dubai had 387,441 private school students across 227 schools offering 17 different curricula in 2024-25, with the International Baccalaureate accounting for 7 per cent of that enrolment. Seven new private schools open for 2026-27, three of them IB, creating 16,846 new places. Students we support attend schools including these.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Uptown International School
  • Deira International School
  • Raffles World Academy
  • Greenfield International School
  • Dwight School Dubai
  • Sunmarke School

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

ADEK territory, and a different rhythm from Dubai: longer distances between communities, a smaller Diploma cohort per school, and ethics rules barring school staff from paid tutoring of their own students. Students we support attend schools including these.

  • Raha International School
  • American Community School of Abu Dhabi
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Al Yasmina Academy

Sharjah and the Northern Emirates

Sharjah's authority approves curricula and assessment methods as well as fees, and Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge does the same. Subject specialists are thin on the ground outside Dubai and Abu Dhabi, which is the real reason online matching works here. Students we support attend schools including these.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Sharjah English School
  • The Westminster School Sharjah
  • RAK Academy

School names appear here as school-system context for families reading this page; IB Gram has no affiliation with, and claims no endorsement from, any school named.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the subject, the level, the board and the preference

One message with the subject, whether it is Higher or Standard Level, the year group, the school and the emirate, plus any preference such as a female IB tutor. The emirate matters because it tells us which authority your school reports to and roughly when a session can realistically start on a school day.

  2. 02

We answer availability before anything else

Within a working day you learn whether a specialist matching your request is free, at which Gulf Standard Time slots, and from where. If the honest answer is a wait, you get the wait in days. If no UAE-based specialist covers the subject, we say that the tutor would be an IB specialist based in India teaching online.

  3. 03

A free first lesson of one hour, no card needed

The specialist works through your child's most recent marked assignment, finds the point where the method breaks down, and says what a term of weekly sessions could realistically change. You get a written plan afterwards whether or not you continue. The condition is simply that this is one lesson, not a trial week.

  4. 04

A weekly slot and a written note each time

Sessions run at the same hour each week, planned from the school's own topic sequence rather than a parallel syllabus. After each one a note records what was covered, what was set and what the next session will do. Those notes are what a parent takes into a school meeting instead of an impression.

  5. 05

Review against the school's own reports

At the end of each reporting cycle we read the school report with you and decide whether to keep the slot, change the focus, or stop. Stopping is a legitimate outcome. A student who has caught up does not need a standing weekly hour, and we will say when that point has arrived.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Availability is disclosed, not discovered

A gender preference narrows a pool, and narrow pools mean waiting. You get the wait, the slot options and the tutor's location before you pay anything. No page competing for these searches publishes a coverage limit of any kind, which is how families end up with a first lesson that was never going to work.

The permit question gets asked for you

Every tutor working with UAE families is asked where they stand on the MoHRE private tuition work permit and whether your child is enrolled at their own school. In Abu Dhabi the ADEK professional ethics rules make that second question a live one rather than a formality.

Built for five regulators, not one

KHDA, ADEK, the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge and the federal Ministry of Education run private education on different terms. A plan assuming a Dubai reporting cycle applies in Sharjah will miss deadlines the school itself does not control.

The compulsory UAE subjects are in the plan

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies are not optional extras in a Dubai private school; they sit in the same week as six IB courses. We budget a student's hours around that load instead of pretending a Diploma week here looks like a Diploma week in London.

The academic-honesty line is written down

A tutor questions a research question, reads one draft against the published criteria, and gives feedback in writing a school can see. A tutor does not write, restructure or supply assessed work. That boundary is on this page because at least one page ranking for these searches offers the opposite.

Every AED figure carries a source and a date

The rates here belong to the market, attributed to the page or table that published them in October 2026. Our own number comes out of a consultation after the free first lesson rather than from a chart, because it depends on the subject, the level and how many sessions are actually needed.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

Can I ask for a female IB tutor for my daughter in the UAE?+

Yes, and say so in the first message rather than after a trial lesson. A gender preference is treated as a filter on the match, not as an awkward special request. What we will not do is pretend the pool is larger than it is. For a widely taught subject such as Biology at Standard Level or English A, a female specialist is usually free within a few days. For a narrow combination, say Physics at Higher Level at 5pm Gulf Standard Time, it can take longer, and you are told the likely wait before committing to anything.

Does a female tutor in the UAE need her own MoHRE permit?+

The permit rule does not depend on gender. Any individual giving private lessons in the UAE needs the private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. The federal portal at u.ae states the permit is granted free of charge for two years, and that people tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two working day completion time. Ask any tutor, male or female, where their permit stands and when it expires.

Is the KHDA separate-classes rule about boys and girls?+

No, and the confusion is common. KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ between the two groups. Combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited. That rule is about first-language background, not gender. Any separation of boys and girls at a particular school comes from that school's own model or the curriculum it is licensed to teach, so the question belongs to the school rather than to the regulator.

Which authority regulates my child's school if we live in Ajman?+

The federal Ministry of Education. It supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah, while Dubai answers to KHDA, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain to ADEK, Sharjah to the Sharjah Private Education Authority, and Ras Al Khaimah to its Department of Knowledge. This matters for tutoring because the emirate authority, not a national one, shapes inspection and fee approval, and in Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah approves curricula and assessment methods as well. If you commute into a Dubai or Sharjah school from Ajman, it is the school's emirate that governs it.

Can my daughter's own schoolteacher tutor her privately in Abu Dhabi?+

Not for payment. The ADEK professional ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's school. Teachers tutoring outside school hours need the permit in any case. Treat the ADEK wording as press-reported and verify it against the current policy document, but the direction is clear enough that no serious platform should be offering you your own child's teacher privately.

How do I check that a tutor is permitted to teach privately here?+

Ask three questions and listen to how quickly they come back. First, do you hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, and when does it expire? Second, which school or employer are you with, and is my child enrolled there? Third, are you teaching my child's board and level this academic year? Somebody who holds the permit answers the first question in a sentence. A tuition business with premises in Dubai is a different case: that needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, which has a number and an expiry date you can ask to see.

Should a parent sit in on an online one-to-one lesson?+

You are welcome to, and plenty of families do for the first few sessions with a younger child. Our sessions are built to be observable: they happen on the family's device, on a shared screen, and the written note afterwards says what was covered and what was set. With a Year 12 or 13 student, sitting in usually reduces how much they are willing to admit they have not understood, which is the opposite of what the hour is for. Read the note instead, and ask about the one topic it flags.

Does a female tutor cost more in the UAE than a male tutor?+

Not in the rates published across this market. The figures track level, subject scarcity and format instead. Market rates for a qualified online subject tutor run roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, an IB, IGCSE or A-Level specialist sits nearer AED 200 to 450 and above, and a tutor travelling to a UAE address carries AED 180 to 500 because the journey is priced into the hour. Those are market figures from competitor pages and Bestimate's 2026 cost table, not IB Gram's price list. A preference changes waiting time, not the hourly number.

Can a female tutor cover Arabic as a first language and Islamic Education?+

Yes, and these are the two subjects where UAE families request a female tutor most often. Both are compulsory in Dubai private schools whatever curriculum the school is licensed for, both are taught in separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students, and Standard Arabic is the language of instruction for Arabic as a first language and for Islamic Education for Arab students. Schools must ensure their own teachers of these subjects hold appropriate KHDA approval. Support follows the set Ministry of Education material, because schools may not use different or additional content without prior permission.

What if no female specialist is free for IB Chemistry at Higher Level?+

You are told before paying anything, and given three real options. You can wait for the next opening, with an estimate of how long that is likely to be. You can take a male specialist for that one subject and keep the preference for the others. Or you can move the slot, because availability at 4pm Gulf Standard Time is not the same as availability at 7pm. Where no UAE-based specialist covers a subject at the level needed, the lesson is delivered online by an IB specialist based in India at your slot, and we say so in advance.

How does Ramadan change our weekly session time?+

School days shorten during Ramadan and the useful hours move, so a Ramadan tutoring schedule normally means either an early afternoon session straight after a shortened school day, or a post-Iftar slot in the evening. Both work online because nobody is driving anywhere. Families who fast usually find the post-Iftar slot more productive for anything analytical, and keep lighter review work for the afternoon. Tell us before the month begins and we move the recurring slot, rather than cancelling three weeks and trying to catch up in April.

How much of the Mathematics Exploration is a tutor allowed to see?+

A tutor may question the topic, press on whether the mathematics matches the level of the course, and read one draft against the published criteria. Criterion E, use of mathematics, carries six of the twenty marks and is where Higher Level students most often sit below their own course, so that is the useful conversation to have early. What a tutor may not do is choose the topic, supply the mathematics, or write or rewrite passages. The school requires the work to be the student's own, and feedback given in writing is feedback the school can read.

Will five IGCSEs be enough for UAE certificate equivalency?+

For the British track, the requirement reported in July 2026 is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education not counted among the five, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. At least one page ranking for these searches states that six subjects are needed. Verify your own case on moe.gov.ae, or with the attestation authority in your emirate, in writing, before planning subject choices around it.

Does the IB Diploma need Ministry of Education equivalency in the UAE?+

Equivalency and attestation are how the Ministry of Education recognises a school certificate for use inside the country, including for university applications. The British and American track requirements have been reported publicly and are set out on this page. We will not publish an IB points threshold, because the source we read states none, and an unsourced number here would be worse than no number at all. Check MoE equivalency for IB students on moe.gov.ae or with your emirate's attestation authority. IB Gram neither performs nor guarantees any part of that process, and tutoring is not a requirement for it.

What do you keep about my child, and how do I have it deleted?+

The enquiry form asks for the subject, the level, the year group, the school board and a parent contact. It does not ask for a photograph, a report card or a predicted grade, and you should be wary of any tutoring form that does. We hold what you send so a specialist can be matched and so session notes attach to the right student, under UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on Personal Data Protection. Ask us to delete it and we delete it, session notes included. The privacy link sits on every page.

Is the first lesson genuinely free, and what is the condition?+

One hour, once, with the specialist matched to your request, and no card details are needed to book it. The condition is that it is a single lesson rather than a trial week, and that it ends with a written plan whether or not you continue. The hour is used for diagnosis: the tutor works through the most recent piece of marked school work, finds where the method breaks down, and says what a term of weekly sessions could realistically change. If the match is wrong, say so and we change the tutor rather than the plan.

Start with the availability answer, not a deposit

If you want a female IB tutor for a student in the UAE, the first thing worth knowing is whether one is actually free for that subject, at that level, in your slot. Send the subject, the year group, the school and the emirate, and you will have that answer inside a working day, along with the market context for what this costs in AED and a plain statement of what a tutor may and may not do with an Internal Assessment. Lessons are one-to-one and delivered live online to Gulf Standard Time. Home visiting is a service we offer only in India, and we would rather say that here than after you have paid.
