IB Tuition near me in Abu Dhabi

Search for IB tuition near me in Abu Dhabi and most of the results will not give you a price. Three of the six pages we examined for this market publish no figure at all, and two of the three that do quote in US dollars. This page does the opposite: the AED bands for every tier and format in 2026, each attributed to the provider that published it, the eight variables that move the number in this emirate, and the questions that make two quotes comparable. Our delivery is one-to-one over live video.

  • Every AED band on this page is attributed and dated, not invented
  • Eight named variables that move a tuition quote, with the direction of each
  • A checklist that makes two Abu Dhabi quotes describe the same thing

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

Why nobody near you will quote a price

The hardest part of buying IB tuition in Abu Dhabi is that the market will not tell you what anything costs. Of the competitor pages examined for this cluster, three publish no price at all, and one of them has a frequently-asked-questions block that asks about the price and then declines to answer it. The two that do publish quote in US dollars, which is not the currency an Abu Dhabi family transacts in, and one of those contradicts its own figure between the visible page and its structured data. So the first thing a parent needs is simply the numbers.

Here they are, as published by the market in 2026. Budget online tutoring, usually delivered by university students, runs from about AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik publishing from AED 45-65 and Tutopiya from AED 33-52. Qualified subject tutors working online sit at AED 150-300, where Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. In-home one-to-one, with travel inside the fee, runs AED 180-500, with Bestimate showing 180-350 and independent home tutors advertising 200-500. IB, IGCSE and A-Level specialists sit at AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate 200-450+. Premium named tutors reach AED 500-650 and more; BartyED publishes AED 650.

The spread is roughly fourteen-fold between the bottom and the top, which is why a single headline number would be dishonest rather than helpful. What closes the gap is understanding which variables move the price and by how much. Eight of them matter in this emirate: the level, the component, the session length, the group size, whether anyone is travelling, the time of year, the tutor's tier, and the shape of the commitment. Each one has a direction and a rough magnitude, and this page gives both.

Abu Dhabi adds its own cost logic. Private schools here are overseen by the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate, and enrolment stretches from the island through the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor out to Al Shamkha, Al Reef and Al Samha. That geography is the single largest driver of the in-home premium: a tutor driving from the island to Al Reef at the afternoon peak spends forty minutes or more each way, which is why in-home work is sold in two-hour blocks and priced above the online bands. Removing the travel removes the surcharge.

IB Gram delivers to Abu Dhabi as one-to-one tuition over live video. We do not make home visits in Abu Dhabi; in-home tuition is a service we offer only in India. Our own fee depends on subject, level and session length and is quoted after a consultation rather than advertised as one number, and a free trial lesson happens before any payment is taken. Everything else on this page is the market's, with its sources named, so you can price a decision rather than guess at one.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Price varies by programme as much as by subject, because what is being bought changes. Primary work is fluency, Middle Years work is criteria literacy, and Diploma work is component-specific technique with an internal assessment calendar attached. Those are three different products at three different costs.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Four criteria per subject on an eight-point scale, converted to a 1-7 grade by the school. MYP tuition is usually the cheapest useful IB tuition a family will buy, because the specialism required is narrower: a tutor who can read the school's criteria descriptors and teach against them does not need Higher Level examination experience.

In Abu Dhabi, MYP 4 and MYP 5 are where spending starts, and they are also the stage where spending is most efficient. Fixing criteria literacy and command terms before DP1 costs a fraction of fixing the same problem in DP2, when the internal assessment calendar leaves no room. Families in the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor often make this move a year earlier than families further out, simply because the shorter school run makes a weekly session easy to hold.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, each with an internal assessment worth a fifth to a third of the grade, plus the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge. This is where tuition is most expensive per hour and most variable in total cost, because the number of hours needed depends almost entirely on when the work starts and how narrow the problem is.

Abu Dhabi cohorts sit the May session and schools generally run mocks between December and February of DP2. Specialist availability tightens through that window across the whole Gulf, and prices at the top of the market firm up with it. A Higher Level science block bought in October is cheaper and easier to staff than the same block bought in January. Confirm examination and results dates with the school's DP coordinator or on ibo.org.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-based learning with no external assessment, so there is no paper to prepare for. Pricing here should reflect shorter sessions: thirty to forty-five minutes twice a week does more for reading accuracy and number fluency than a single hour, and a provider charging an exam-preparation rate for primary work has mispriced the product.

Primary enquiries cluster in the newer mainland communities, where families are least willing to add a second car journey to the afternoon. Two short online sessions a week are affordable in both money and time; the same pattern delivered in-home would require two journeys and is priced accordingly, which is why in-home primary work is almost always sold as one longer visit instead.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Cost per subject follows scarcity and component difficulty rather than a published tariff. Below is what each subject actually requires of a tutor, which is the thing you are paying more or less for.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Standard Level sits in the widest-supplied part of the market, so it is at the lower end of specialist pricing. Higher Level Paper 3 work is a narrower skill, which moves it into the AED 200-450+ band because the pool of people who have marked two extended problems well is small.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling and statistics with technology assumed. Supply is reasonable at both levels, and the work most often needed - interpretation sentences next to correct calculations - is quick to teach, so the total hours tend to be low even at a specialist rate.

Physics

HL and SL

The most price-sensitive Higher Level subject in this market, because demand across the Gulf peaks in the same December-to-February window every year. Booking the block in the autumn is the single largest saving available on this subject.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Higher Level organic and energetics carry a concentrated set of lost marks, which is good news for cost: a narrow problem needs few hours. The pool tightens before mocks in the same way Physics does.

Biology

HL and SL

Reasonable supply at both levels. Most requests are for criterion-based feedback on the scientific investigation rather than content teaching, which is a short block rather than a weekly commitment and prices accordingly.

Economics

HL and SL

Standard Level is widely supplied; Higher Level Paper 3 is not. The internal assessment is three commentaries, which is three short pieces of work rather than one long one, and that shape suits a small number of scheduled sessions.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 support is widely available at mid-market rates. The Higher Level essay is a narrower specialism and is usually bought as a short block at the specialist rate rather than as a weekly session across a year.

Arabic A and Arabic B

HL and SL

The one subject where a UAE-based tutor is worth paying for specifically, because the Diploma course and the Ministry-mandated Arabic requirement run in the same week and interact. Supply is good inside the UAE and thin outside it.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study papers and a research-based internal assessment. Supply is good, and the common fault - a tool applied without a judgement about the business in the stimulus - is cheap to correct once named.

Visual Arts and Music

HL and SL

The thinnest supply in every market, which shows up as waiting time as well as price. These need planning a term ahead, and we would rather decline than place a generalist on a comparative study or a process portfolio.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy, which cost very different totals for the same hourly rate. The difference is not the price per hour; it is the number of hours a shape commits you to and how early the plan can be stopped.

Pay by the session

The most expensive per hour and the cheapest to leave. This is the right shape at the start, while the match is unproven, and the right shape for a problem that may turn out to be narrow. Families who commit to a term before the first lesson routinely overbuy, because the marked paper has not yet told anybody how big the problem is.

  • No commitment beyond the next session
  • Right while the diagnosis is still a hypothesis
  • Easiest shape to stop if the match is wrong
  • Highest cost per hour of the three

An end-dated block

Four to eight sessions scoped to one component with a stated finish. This is the shape most of our Abu Dhabi Diploma work takes, because most Diploma problems are component-sized rather than subject-sized. It is also the only shape that works for scarce specialists, who can give concentrated hours but not a weekly slot for a year.

  • Scoped to a named component, with an end date
  • Priced and planned as a unit, so the total is known up front
  • The route for Higher Level sciences before mocks
  • No rolling commitment after the block finishes

A monthly plan

The lowest cost per hour and the highest commitment. Market packages run around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. Worth taking once the match has been proven over six weeks and the plan has stopped changing. Taking it before that is paying for certainty you do not yet have.

  • Lowest effective hourly rate of the three shapes
  • Only sensible after a proven six-week review
  • Check what happens to unused sessions in a school holiday
  • Ask how a pause for examinations or travel is handled

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

The eight variables that move an IB tuition quote

A fourteen-fold spread between the cheapest and most expensive published hour in this market is not irrationality; it is eight separate variables compounding. Knowing which ones apply to your situation turns an unanswerable question into an estimate you can check. Three of the eight are under your control, three are under the provider's, and two belong to the calendar.

The variables you control are group size, session length and commitment shape. Group size has the largest effect of anything on this page: group rates in Abu Dhabi start around AED 45 per student against AED 200-450 and above for one-to-one specialist work, which is a factor of four to ten. Session length matters less than it looks, because ninety minutes is commonly priced below one and a half times the hourly rate. Commitment shape moves the effective rate down and the risk up, which is why it belongs after a proven six weeks rather than before a first lesson.

The variables the provider controls are tier, specialism and whether anyone travels. Tier is the steepest: the move from a qualified subject tutor at AED 150-300 to a premium named tutor at AED 500-650 is a tripling, and the question worth asking is what the premium is evidenced by. Examiner status is the most common justification in this market and the least often documented. Travel is the clearest: the in-home band of AED 180-500 against the online band of AED 150-300 is largely a car.

The calendar variables are the ones families notice last. Specialist supply across the Gulf tightens between December and February of DP2 because every school runs mocks off the same session, and prices at the top firm up with it. And the total hours needed shrink the earlier the work starts, which is a far bigger lever on total cost than any hourly rate.

The full AED rate card for this market

This is the table the cluster is missing. Every figure is a published market rate attributed to the provider that published it in 2026, and none of them is IB Gram's price. Ours depends on subject, level and session length and is given after a consultation, because quoting one number for Higher Level Mathematics in DP2 and for MYP 3 science would make the number meaningless.

Read it with two cautions. The first is that a rate describes a seat, not a result: a permit to tutor, which is free and valid for two years from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, tells you somebody may legally teach, and the eligible categories include university students and school students aged 15 to 18. A low rate is often a young tutor, which is entirely appropriate for homework support and entirely wrong for Higher Level Chemistry.

The second is that monthly packages and hourly rates are not comparable until you divide. A package at AED 799 for eight sessions is AED 99 a session, but only if all eight are used, and school holidays in Abu Dhabi eat sessions. Ask what happens to an unused session before taking a monthly plan, and ask whether a pause for mocks or travel is permitted.

Nothing here states a position on the UAE tax treatment of tuition fees, which belongs to the Federal Tax Authority rather than to a tutoring page. What a parent should do is ask any provider whether the number quoted is inclusive, and get the answer in writing.

Tuition inside the rest of an Abu Dhabi education budget

Tuition is almost never the largest line in a family's education spending, and seeing it next to the others changes how it gets decided. School fees dominate, and in Abu Dhabi the emirate regulator governs fee levels and the process by which a school may apply for an increase, which is why the school's own published fee schedule is the document to read rather than a third-party summary.

Dubai provides a useful anchor because its numbers are public. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. Dubai's private sector also gives a sense of scale: 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering seventeen different curricula, with the International Baccalaureate accounting for seven per cent of students against thirty-seven per cent on UK curricula.

Against that, Bestimate's 2026 monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session are AED 240-600 at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. A full two-year Diploma plan at the middle band is a meaningful sum, and the single most effective way to reduce it is not to negotiate the hourly rate. It is to buy fewer, better-targeted hours earlier, because the number of hours required is the variable with the widest range.

One line families forget is examination entry as a private candidate, which arises for retakes and for students sitting a qualification their school does not offer. That is paid to a centre rather than to a tutor, and the centre publishes it. Ask about it before planning a retake, because it changes whether a single-subject retake is worth the trouble.

What the price does not include

  • Ask whether marking between sessions is included, billed, or simply not done
  • Check the real teaching minutes inside a booked hour
  • Settle the holiday, pause and replacement questions in writing before paying
  • Ask what the tutor will and will not do with a coursework draft

The published hourly rate is the visible part of the cost and rarely the whole of it. The first question to ask is whether marking happens inside or outside the paid hour. A tutor who marks a past-paper section between sessions is doing work you benefit from, and different providers treat that time differently: some include it, some bill it, and some do not do it at all, which is the version that produces no evidence.

The second is session length and what happens at the edges. A sixty-minute booking that starts five minutes late and finishes five minutes early is a fifty-minute lesson. A ninety-minute booking is the right length for sitting a paper section and marking it together, and the wrong length for a Middle Years student. The third is what the fee covers between sessions: a written note, an error log carried forward, or nothing.

Then the commitment questions. What happens to an unused session during an Abu Dhabi school holiday? Can the plan pause during the mock window or a family trip? If the first tutor is not right, is a replacement arranged without an argument, and what happens to hours already paid? None of those is a trick question, and a provider who answers them clearly in writing is giving you more useful information than one who shaves ten dirhams off the rate.

Finally, the questions that are about honesty rather than money. Does the individual teaching hold the private tutor permit, which is free and valid for two years from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation? Is any examiner claim evidenced? Is the tutor employed at your child's school, which reported Abu Dhabi professional-ethics rules bar from paid tutoring of their own students? And what exactly will the tutor do with an internal assessment draft, given that a provider offering to produce coursework is offering your child a malpractice finding.

05

Five ways to spend the same money, and what each buys

Total cost is driven by hours, and hours are driven by how narrow the problem is and when the work starts. The scenarios below are illustrative planning shapes rather than case studies, and they are deliberately priced in hours rather than dirhams so you can apply whichever band from the rate card matches the tutor you are considering.

The pattern they show is consistent. A problem identified early and scoped narrowly costs a handful of hours. The same problem identified in DP2 after the internal assessments are submitted costs more hours and recovers fewer marks, because half the available marks are already locked. And money spread thinly across three subjects reliably achieves less than the same money concentrated in the one subject where the mock showed the most recoverable marks.

The hardest of these for families to accept is the ranking one. Parents rank subjects by anxiety, which puts the hours into the subject that feels worst. A read mock ranks them by marks recoverable per hour of work, which is frequently a different order. Following the second ranking is the cheapest single decision available in DP2.

The second-hardest is stopping. A tutoring plan with no end date drifts, and drifting is expensive in a way nobody notices month to month. Every block we run has a stated finish, and at the six-week review we expect to reduce hours in some subjects rather than only adding them. Families who treat tuition as a subscription rather than as a set of scoped repairs spend two or three times what the repairs would have cost, and they usually cannot say what changed. The honest test is whether you could name, in one sentence, what the next six sessions are for. If you cannot, the hours are not aimed at anything and the money is being spent on reassurance rather than on marks.

06

Group, pair or one-to-one: cost per recovered mark

Comparing formats on price per hour makes groups look unbeatable and comparing them on outcome makes one-to-one look unbeatable. The useful comparison is cost per recovered mark, and it depends entirely on which problem the student has.

If the problem is a genuine content gap in a topic the whole class found hard, a group class is excellent value. The content can be delivered to twelve students with no loss, and at AED 45-150 per student the arithmetic is obvious. The school's own after-school clinic is better still, because it costs nothing extra and is run by the teacher who set the internal deadline.

If the problem is that marks are disappearing from a specific component, a group class cannot address it, because in a group of twelve the individual error pattern is invisible. The tutor teaches the average student's gap. A student whose issue is a reversed sign convention or a misread Paper 3 stem will sit through content they already know, which is cheap per hour and expensive per mark. Pair sessions sit in between and only work when both students are failing in the same place, which is less common than families hope.

The practical recommendation is to use the formats in sequence rather than choosing one. Free school clinic for cohort-wide content. Group class for a topic the student genuinely missed. One-to-one for component diagnosis and for anything involving an internal assessment, where criterion-level feedback on one student's own draft cannot be given to a group at all.

07

Making two quotes describe the same thing

Most families collect two or three quotes and compare the numbers, which is the one thing the numbers cannot support. AED 60 from a university student, AED 200 from a qualified subject tutor, AED 270 from a specialist and AED 650 from a named tutor are four different transactions with different session lengths, different group sizes, different marking arrangements and different exit terms. Normalising them takes about six questions.

Start with how many students are in the session, because that single answer can change the effective rate by a factor of four. Then whether the figure is per hour or per session and how long a session is. Then which subject and level the tutor actually teaches and which components they have marked, since "all IB subjects" is not an answer. Then whether the quote is inclusive of any applicable tax, in writing. Then what happens if the first match is wrong. Then whether the individual teaching holds the private tutor permit.

Two answers should end a conversation rather than continue it. The first is any claim of approval, accreditation or licensing from an education authority or an examination board: no tutoring provider in this market holds that, the regulators license schools rather than tutors, and the Dubai institute permit applies to organisations with physical premises. IB Gram holds none of these and claims none. The second is any promise of a specific grade, a point total or a percentage improvement.

Our own answer to the price question is deliberately not a single number. A consultation establishes the subject, the level, the component and the deadline; the fee follows from those; and a free trial lesson happens before any payment is taken. That is less convenient than a figure on a page and it is the only version that does not mislead somebody.

08

Why starting earlier is the biggest saving available

  • Total hours, not the hourly rate, is the variable with the widest range
  • Coursework marks close progressively through DP2; technique is all that remains
  • Specialist supply tightens December to February, and prices firm with it
  • The two free diagnostics - the teacher's view and the marked mock - come first

Every lever on this page except one moves the price by tens of per cent. Timing moves the total by multiples, because it changes how many hours are needed and how many marks are still in play. A Diploma student has eight or nine pieces of internal coursework worth between a fifth and a third of each subject grade. In October of DP1, all of them are still open. In March of DP2, every one of them is submitted.

That means the same money buys different things at different points. Early, it buys content repair, coursework process and two mock seasons, and the hours needed are low because nothing is urgent. Late, it buys paper technique on a narrow set of components, and the hours needed are high because the student is simultaneously revising six subjects. Both purchases are worth making. They are not the same purchase, and a provider who prices them identically is not helping you see that.

The second timing effect is supply. Specialist availability across the Gulf tightens between December and February of DP2, because every school's mock window runs off the same May session. A Higher Level Physics block booked in October is easier to staff and sits lower in the price band than the same block booked in January. For the arts, which are thin everywhere, planning a term ahead is the difference between getting a specialist and not.

The cheapest intervention in the whole two years costs almost nothing: ask the subject teacher which component is losing marks, and read the returned mock script against the mark scheme. Both are free. Doing them first means any money spent afterwards is aimed at something real.

Online delivery removes travel from the fee entirely, but it is worth seeing what the travel would have been, because that is the part of an in-home quote that is not teaching. These are the Abu Dhabi communities we work with and the cost logic in each.

Khalifa City and Shakhbout City

The shortest real school run in the emirate and the densest local tutor pool, so in-home pricing here is at the lower end of the AED 180-500 band. Even so, the Higher Level specialist shortlist within twenty minutes stays small.

Al Raha Gardens and Al Raha Beach

Ten minutes from Khalifa City. Families here often compare a weekly in-home visit against a short online specialist block and find the block cheaper in total because the hours needed are fewer.

Saadiyat Island

One causeway run. In-home work here is routinely sold as a two-hour minimum, so the real comparison is AED 360-1,000 per visit against a single focused online hour.

Al Reem Island

Short runs and an early workable slot. The cost advantage here is time rather than money: a session can finish before dinner, which means fewer cancelled and rebooked hours across a term.

Al Shamkha and Al Falah

Thirty to forty minutes each way at the peak. This is where the in-home premium stops describing teaching, and where the price gap between the two delivery models is at its widest.

Al Reef and Al Samha

The longest afternoon runs. The subjects most needed here - Higher Level Physics, Chemistry and Economics - are the scarcest locally, so a radius search raises the price and lowers the match quality at the same time.

Yas Island

A longer run back from island schools and a steady flow of mid-year arrivals. Transition work is usually a fixed eight to twelve hours rather than an open commitment, which makes it easy to budget.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Mussafah

Large mixed communities with wide curriculum variety. Group classes are more available here than elsewhere in the emirate, which makes the group-versus-one-to-one cost comparison a live question rather than a theoretical one.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Khalifa City, Al Raha and the eastern corridor

The heaviest concentration of international provision in Abu Dhabi, with IB continuum schools and British schools offering the Diploma alongside A-Levels. Internal assessment deadlines cluster here, which is why specialist blocks in this corridor are booked earliest and why late booking costs more.

  • Raha International School
  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • The British International School Abu Dhabi
  • Al Mamoura Academy

The island, Saadiyat and Al Reem

Established island schools and newer provision nearby. Several cohorts here offer the Diploma as one route among others at post-16, so families are often pricing two different two-year plans against each other rather than one.

  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • American Community School of Abu Dhabi
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • Repton School Abu Dhabi
  • Abu Dhabi International School

Schools are named only to describe the provision Abu Dhabi families choose between. IB Gram is independent, holds no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any school or group named, and no connection to ADEK, the IB or any examination board.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Do the free diagnostics first

Ask your child's subject teacher which component is costing marks, and read the most recent marked script against the published mark scheme. Both cost nothing and both narrow the problem. Money spent before this step is money aimed at a guess.

  2. 02

Get a quote you can compare

Ask the six questions: students per session, hour or session, subject and level and components, tax position in writing, what happens if the match is wrong, and whether the individual tutor holds the MoHRE permit. Then the numbers mean the same thing.

  3. 03

Take the free trial before paying

The trial is a working lesson on the component the script identified, and no payment is taken before it happens. It should end with the tutor stating what the next six weeks would do, in what order, and roughly how many hours that is.

  4. 04

Buy by the block, not by the term

Start with an end-dated block scoped to one component rather than an open weekly commitment. A monthly plan has the lowest effective rate and the highest risk, and it belongs after six weeks of evidence rather than before the first lesson.

  5. 05

    Re-price after the school mocks

Rank the subjects by marks recoverable per hour rather than by how worrying they feel, concentrate the budget on the top of that list, and set an end date. Expect to reduce hours somewhere, not only to add them.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The prices are on the page, with their sources

Every AED band here is attributed to the provider that published it in 2026, and nothing is presented as our own tariff. Three of the six competitor pages in this market publish no price at all, and one of them asks the question in its own FAQ and declines to answer it.

Our fee follows a consultation, deliberately

An hour of Higher Level Mathematics in DP2 and an hour of MYP 3 science are not the same product, so we quote after establishing subject, level, component and deadline. A single headline number for every subject hides exactly the thing you are trying to compare.

No travel in the fee

Sessions run one-to-one over live video, so there is no mileage, no waiting time and no two-hour minimum imposed to justify a journey. We do not make home visits in Abu Dhabi; in-home tuition is a service we offer only in India.

Blocks with end dates rather than open commitments

Most Diploma problems are component-sized. Scoping a block to one component with a stated finish means the total is known in advance and the plan cannot drift, which is the most common way tutoring budgets get spent without being decided.

No grade promises and no invented statistics

We do not publish satisfaction percentages, tutor headcounts, star ratings or grade guarantees, because we cannot produce the underlying data for any of them. What we publish instead is the market's pricing with its sources and our own method in writing.

The permit and regulator position stated plainly

The private tutor permit is free, valid for two years and issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. Education authorities license schools, not tutoring providers. IB Gram holds no regulator approval and does not claim one, and any provider who does should be asked for the number.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

How much does IB tuition cost near me in Abu Dhabi?+

The published 2026 market runs from about AED 45 to AED 650 an hour depending on tier and format. Budget online is AED 45-150, with EdFlik from AED 45-65 and Tutopiya from AED 33-52. A qualified subject tutor online is AED 150-300, where Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. IB and IGCSE specialists are AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270. In-home one-to-one is AED 180-500 with travel inside the fee. Premium named tutors reach AED 500-650, BartyED publishing AED 650. Our own fee follows a consultation, because subject, level and session length change the product.

Why do two providers quote AED 150 and AED 450 for the same subject?+

Because they are selling different things under the same subject label. At AED 150 you are usually buying a qualified tutor covering syllabus content, possibly in a pair or small group, with little component-level assessment experience. At AED 450 you are buying someone who teaches that subject at that level, has marked the specific paper your child is losing marks on, and can give criterion-level feedback on a coursework draft. Neither is wrong. For a content gap the cheaper option is better value; for eleven marks disappearing from Paper 2 extended response, the expensive option needs fewer hours and recovers more.

Are IB tuition rates quoted per hour or per ninety-minute session?+

Both are common in this market, which is why a quote should never be compared before the question is asked. Ninety minutes is usually priced below one and a half times the hourly rate, so it is often better value, and it is the right length for DP2 work where a paper section needs sitting and then marking in the same sitting. Sixty minutes is right for Middle Years and for Standard Level content work. Also check the real teaching minutes: a session that begins five minutes late and ends five minutes early is not the length you bought.

Does the quoted fee include UAE tax?+

Ask the provider and get the answer in writing. We deliberately do not state the UAE tax treatment of tuition fees on this page, because that position belongs to the Federal Tax Authority rather than to a tutoring company, and a page that asserts it without a citation is guessing on your behalf. What a provider can and should tell you is whether the number they have quoted is inclusive or exclusive, and whether they hold a tax registration number. Anything beyond that should come from the authority's own guidance or from an accountant, not from a landing page.

Is it cheaper to book a whole term in advance?+

Usually yes per hour, and usually a bad idea before the match is proven. Monthly packages in this market run around AED 799 for eight online sessions, which is a real discount on the hourly bands. The risk is that families who commit before the first lesson routinely overbuy, because nobody yet knows whether the problem is a four-hour problem or a twenty-hour one. Our recommendation is to start with an end-dated block scoped to one component, review at six weeks against fresh marked work, and only then take a longer commitment if the plan has stopped changing.

Do rates rise closer to the May examination session?+

Effective rates do, because supply tightens rather than because providers raise a published number. Every school in the Gulf runs its Diploma mocks off the same session, so Higher Level science and Paper 3 specialists are in demand in the same December-to-February window. A family searching in October has a wide choice of specialists at the middle of the band. The same family searching in January has a narrow choice at the top of it, and a longer wait. Booking Higher Level blocks in the autumn term is the simplest saving available on this page.

How many hours does a Diploma subject typically need?+

It depends on which problem the marked script shows, and the range is wide enough that any single figure would mislead. A command-term register problem on extended response is often four to six sessions. A timing fault across multi-part questions is similar. A criterion capping a coursework mark can be two or three sessions plus the student's own rewriting. A genuine content gap across two topics is a term. What drives the total more than anything else is when the work starts: the same problem identified in DP1 needs fewer hours than the same problem identified in March of DP2.

Is a pair session half the price of one-to-one?+

Cheaper per student, yes; half, rarely. More importantly it is only good value when both students are losing marks in the same place, which is less common than families expect. Two friends taking Physics at Higher Level who both struggle with extended response can share productively. Where one has a data-analysis problem and the other a mechanics problem, each receives half a lesson and both make half the progress, and two shorter individual sessions do more for the same money. We look at both students' recent marked work before agreeing to a shared booking rather than agreeing because it is cheaper.

What hidden extras should I ask about before paying?+

Five. Whether marking between sessions is inside the fee, billed separately, or simply not done. What the real teaching minutes are inside a booked hour. What happens to unused sessions during an Abu Dhabi school holiday. Whether the plan can pause for mocks or a family trip. And what happens to hours already paid if the first tutor is not right. None of these is a trick question, and a provider who answers them clearly in writing is giving you more useful information than one who takes ten dirhams off the rate.

Are Higher Level subjects more expensive than Standard Level?+

Usually, and the reason is supply rather than difficulty. Standard Level Mathematics and Standard Level sciences are taught by a wide pool, which keeps them in the AED 150-300 band. Higher Level work, and particularly narrow components like Mathematics Paper 3, Economics Paper 3 and the Higher Level English essay, needs someone who has marked that specific paper type, and that pool is small. Those sit in the AED 200-450+ band. The practical response is not to avoid the specialist but to buy them narrowly: a six-session block on one component rather than a weekly slot across a year.

How does Abu Dhabi tuition pricing compare with Dubai?+

The published bands are national rather than emirate-specific, so the headline numbers are much the same. What differs is the in-home premium and the local supply. Abu Dhabi's enrolment is spread from the island through the Khalifa City corridor out to Al Reef and Al Shamkha, and a tutor crossing that at the afternoon peak spends forty minutes or more each way, which pushes in-home work towards the top of the AED 180-500 band and towards two-hour minimum bookings. Online, the geography stops mattering and the price reflects the tutor rather than the drive.

What happens to the fee if we pause for examinations or travel?+

Ask before you pay, because practice varies and this is where monthly packages catch families out. Our own approach is that end-dated blocks are the default precisely so a pause is not needed: the block finishes, and a new one starts when it is useful. Where a plan is running weekly, pausing for a school mock window or a family trip is normal and expected, since Abu Dhabi households travel more than most. What we would not do is bill for sessions nobody could attend, and what you should insist on from any provider is that the position is written down rather than described on a call.

Does an examiner-marketed tutor justify AED 650 an hour?+

Only if the claim is evidenced, and in this market it usually is not. Examiner status appears frequently in tutoring marketing and is rarely documented, and it is also often used to imply something it cannot deliver: no examiner has access to unreleased papers, future grade boundaries or marking in progress. We do not describe tutors as examiners for any board unless current status can be shown, and we would not use the label to imply access of any kind. If a premium rests on it, ask what the evidence is before paying the premium.

Is IB tuition more expensive than IGCSE tuition here?+

Slightly, and the published rates show it: Unitors lists IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. The reason is the coursework load rather than the content. A Diploma student carries eight or nine pieces of internally assessed work with their own criteria and limits, and giving criterion-level feedback on a draft is a narrower skill than teaching syllabus content. Higher Level Diploma components concentrate that further. For a family moving from IGCSE support into Diploma support, expect the hourly rate to rise modestly and the shape of the work to change more than the rate does.

Can we start with a few hours and increase later if it works?+

That is what we recommend, and it is the opposite of what most providers sell. Start by paying per session or buying a short end-dated block scoped to the one component the marked script identified. Review at six weeks against a fresh marked attempt at the same task type. If the evidence shows the named error has stopped recurring, you can decide whether to extend, and only then is a monthly plan at a lower effective rate a sensible purchase. Committing first and diagnosing afterwards is how families end up paying for hours nobody had established were needed.

Price the problem, then price the hour

The hourly rate is the smaller half of what IB tuition near me in Abu Dhabi will cost you. The larger half is how many hours the problem actually needs, and that is set by how narrowly it has been diagnosed and how early the work starts. Do the two free diagnostics first: ask the subject teacher which component is losing marks, and read the last marked script against the mark scheme. Then send it to us with the subject and level. A specialist will read it before a free trial lesson, no payment is taken before that lesson happens, and every session runs one-to-one over live video.
