Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 Tutor in Abu Dhabi

Most families looking for a Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 tutor in Abu Dhabi have already identified electricity as the problem, because that is what the school said. The marks usually tell a different story, and thermal physics, waves and the written description questions are where the quiet losses sit. Lessons are one to one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, built around your child's own marked script, and the first one is free.

  • Topic-by-topic mark record across all six 0625 areas
  • Written description questions marked line by line against the scheme
  • Sessions scheduled in Gulf Standard Time around the Abu Dhabi school week
  • Free first lesson, no card required and nothing to cancel

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

Where 0625 marks actually go, and why nobody notices

Ask a Year 11 student in Abu Dhabi what they find hardest in Cambridge IGCSE Physics and almost all of them say electricity. Ask the same question of a stack of marked scripts and the answer is different. Electricity is the largest topic area and the one teachers warn about, so students revise it hardest and lose a proportionate share of marks there. The disproportionate losses sit elsewhere: in thermal physics, which is taught early and revised late; in waves, where several marks are attached to the quality of a drawing; and in written description questions across every topic, where the physics is understood and the answer earns nothing.

The current 0625 syllabus is organised into six topic areas, covering motion, forces and energy; thermal physics; waves; electricity and magnetism; nuclear physics; and space physics. Candidates sit a multiple-choice paper, a written theory paper at their tier, and a practical component which carries a fifth of the grade. The exact components, durations and weightings for a given series are set out in the current syllabus on cambridgeinternational.org, and that is the document to check rather than a revision guide bought two years ago.

What makes the quiet losses quiet is that they do not look like failures. A student who writes that the metal gets hotter because heat travels through it has produced a sentence their parent would accept and an examiner will not, because the mark required the mechanism: free electrons gaining kinetic energy and transferring it through collisions. A student who draws a ray diagram with correct refraction and no arrows, no normal and no labels loses marks on a drawing that is physically right. Neither student knows anything is wrong until a script comes back.

Abu Dhabi adds a specific constraint on how much time is available to fix any of this. Private schools in the UAE are not obliged to follow a particular curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, provided they adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. In practice that means a Year 11 in this emirate is carrying the mandated subjects alongside nine or ten examined ones, and the evening is shorter than a revision timetable assumes. A plan that does not count those hours honestly falls apart in November.

IB Gram matches Abu Dhabi families to a 0625 specialist and teaches one to one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. For separate physics that is the arrangement that works in your favour, because the person who can mark a six-mark description question properly is not necessarily within driving distance of Saadiyat, Khalifa City or Al Shamkha.

At a glance

  • Six topic areas, a multiple-choice paper, a theory paper and a practical component
  • The practical component carries roughly a fifth of the total grade
  • Thermal physics and waves lose more marks than their size suggests
  • Description questions need a mechanism, not a restatement of the observation
  • Core and Extended candidates sit different papers at different ceilings
  • Mandated Arabic, Islamic education and social studies sit in the same week
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

A 0625 entry is a decision about what comes after it as much as about Year 11. The programmes below are the ones that come up when an Abu Dhabi family asks whether separate physics is the right route for their child.

0625Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE Physics

Separate physics as a single IGCSE, examined by multiple choice, a written theory paper at Core or Extended tier, and a practical component. The content covers motion, forces and energy, thermal physics, waves, electricity and magnetism, nuclear physics and space physics. Extended candidates meet additional depth in most areas and can reach the full range of grades.

In Abu Dhabi, separate sciences are typically offered by the larger British-curriculum departments, with the coordinated or combined route used where a student is carrying a heavy option block. Which route a school uses is a departmental decision, and the head of science is the person who can explain why a particular set was chosen for your child.

0654Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences

A double award covering biology, chemistry and physics in one course with two grades. The physics inside it is narrower than 0625 and uses the same command vocabulary, so a student who struggles with description questions in one will struggle in the other. Families comparing the two should look at the time on the timetable rather than only at the content list.

Several Abu Dhabi schools put most of a year group on the coordinated route and reserve separate sciences for students intending to continue them. If your child is in a coordinated set and wants A Level physics, the question for the department is what the sixth form expects, not whether the switch is theoretically possible.

9702Ages 16-18 · Years 12-13

Cambridge International AS and A Level Physics

The sixth-form continuation, with substantially more mathematics, formal treatment of uncertainty, and extended practical work assessed in its own papers. Students arriving from Extended 0625 find the topic names familiar and the level of algebra new, which is why maths fluency is often the real prerequisite rather than physics knowledge.

Abu Dhabi sixth forms set their own entry requirements, and they usually ask for a specific Extended grade in physics and a comparable grade in mathematics. A published requirement at your child's school is the one that matters; a figure quoted on a tutoring site is not.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme Physics

Offered at Standard and Higher Level, with a strong emphasis on experimental work and a written internal assessment that is the student's own from the first draft to the last. The conceptual overlap with 0625 is real, and the shift is in how much explanation each answer is expected to carry.

The emirate has a substantial IB sector, and students frequently move from a Cambridge Year 11 into a Diploma Year 12 at a different school. The useful preparation in that gap is description and explanation practice rather than new content, because that is the skill the Diploma assumes from day one.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The grid below breaks the six 0625 topic areas into the units a tutor actually plans sessions around. Each entry names the specific place marks tend to disappear, which is more useful than a list of topic titles.

Kinematics and motion graphs

Core and Extended

Speed, velocity, acceleration and the reading of distance-time and speed-time graphs. Most losses come from describing a graph rather than interpreting it, and from calculating a gradient without stating the units it carries.

Forces, moments and momentum

Core and Extended

Resultant forces, Hooke's law, turning effects and the principle of moments, with momentum for Extended candidates. Students lose marks by omitting the pivot in a moments calculation and by treating weight and mass as interchangeable in a written answer.

Energy, work and power

Core and Extended

Energy stores and transfers, efficiency, work done and power. The phrase energy is lost scores nothing: the mark requires naming where the energy went, usually as thermal energy to the surroundings by heating or by sound.

Pressure and density

Core and Extended

Pressure in solids, liquids and gases, pressure with depth, and the gas laws for Extended candidates. The recurring error is substituting a depth measured from the wrong reference point, or forgetting that pressure in a liquid does not depend on the shape of the container.

Thermal properties and temperature

Core and Extended

Thermal expansion, specific heat capacity, melting and boiling, and latent heat. This unit carries a reliable supply of calculation marks and is routinely revised last, which is the main reason it costs Abu Dhabi candidates more than it should.

Transfer of thermal energy

Core and Extended

Conduction, convection, radiation and the experiments that distinguish them. Nearly every mark here is awarded for a mechanism in particle terms, so an answer that says heat rises or heat travels through the metal collects nothing at all.

General properties of waves

Core and Extended

Wavelength, frequency, amplitude, the wave equation, reflection, refraction and diffraction. Marks attach to the diagram as much as the description: wavefronts drawn with the correct spacing and direction earn credit that a written sentence cannot replace.

Light, lenses and ray diagrams

Core and Extended

Reflection, refraction, critical angle, total internal reflection and thin converging lenses. A ray diagram without the normal drawn, without arrows on the rays, or without labels loses marks even when the geometry is entirely correct.

Sound and the electromagnetic spectrum

Core and Extended

Longitudinal waves, the audible range, echoes, and the ordering and uses of electromagnetic radiation. A short unit with predictable question types, which makes it one of the cheapest places to recover marks in the final fortnight.

Electrical quantities and circuits

Core and Extended

Charge, current, potential difference, resistance, series and parallel circuits, and circuit calculation. The largest topic area and the one most heavily revised, so the losses here are usually arithmetic and circuit reading rather than misunderstanding.

Electromagnetic effects

Core and Extended

Magnetic fields, the motor effect, electromagnetic induction and transformers. Students lose marks by describing what happens without naming the change in magnetic flux linkage or the relative motion that caused it.

Nuclear physics and radioactivity

Core and Extended

Atomic structure, isotopes, alpha, beta and gamma radiation, half-life and safety. A short, self-contained area with highly predictable question types, which makes it the most reliable late revision in the whole syllabus.

Space physics

Core and Extended

The solar system, orbits, stellar life cycles and the expanding universe. Often the last unit taught and the first abandoned under pressure, yet it asks for description rather than calculation, which suits students who are weak on the mathematics.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of working cover almost every separate-physics request from this emirate. All are one to one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. The difference is which part of the syllabus the hours are pointed at.

Topic-area repair

A short block aimed at one or two of the six areas, chosen by counting lost marks on a recent script rather than by asking the student what feels hard. Thermal physics and waves are the two that most often come out of that count, and both respond quickly because the losses are mechanism and diagram rather than comprehension.

  • Topic chosen from a mark count, not from a conversation
  • Each session ends with written answers marked line by line
  • Diagrams drawn by the student and corrected against the scheme
  • Typically four to six sessions per area

Description and explanation practice

A programme that treats answer writing as the subject. Each session takes two or three longer questions across different topics and works on what each line of the answer has to contain. This is the single most transferable thing a 0625 student can be taught, and it affects every topic area at once.

  • Command vocabulary separated: state, describe, explain, suggest
  • Mechanisms written in particle terms where the mark requires it
  • Answers built to the number of marks on offer
  • Works equally for the coordinated and separate science routes

Full-course weekly support

A fixed weekly hour running a step behind the school's scheme of work, so the session consolidates what the class has already covered and deals with whatever moved too fast. Families on long commutes usually pair this with a weekend slot for timed papers.

  • One protected slot each week in Gulf Standard Time
  • Short written work set between sessions and marked before the next
  • Topic record kept so you can see where the marks move
  • Deliberate pauses for internal assessment weeks and travel

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

Thermal physics: the area Abu Dhabi candidates under-revise

  • Nearly every thermal description mark requires a particle-level mechanism
  • Multi-stage heating and change-of-state calculations need separate steps
  • Named experiments recur as contexts for method and error questions
  • Revise this area early, not in the final fortnight

Thermal physics is taught early in most schemes of work, which means it is a year old by the time a student revises for a final paper. It is also the area where the question types are most predictable and the marking is least forgiving, because almost every description mark is awarded for a mechanism expressed in terms of particles. An answer that reaches the right conclusion by the wrong route scores nothing, and an answer that restates the observation in different words scores nothing either.

The calculation side is kinder. Specific heat capacity and latent heat questions follow a small number of shapes, and a student who can lay out a substitution clearly will collect most of those marks. What trips candidates is a change of state hidden inside a question: a quantity of ice warmed, melted and then heated as water requires three separate calculations, and students who have only ever practised one-step problems do the first and stop.

The experiments matter too, because the practical component draws on them. Measuring specific heat capacity with an immersion heater, investigating cooling, demonstrating convection in water and comparing conduction in different metals all appear as contexts for questions about method, sources of error and improvements. Those questions are answerable from understanding rather than from having stood in a laboratory, which is why the area is workable over video.

In a session the fix is mechanical. The student writes an answer, the mark scheme wording is put beside it, and the gap is named. After a dozen of these the sentence structure changes: particles, energy, transfer, consequence. It is unglamorous work and it is where a measurable number of marks lives on this syllabus.

02

Waves, light and the marks attached to a drawing

  • Draw the normal, add arrows, measure from the normal, label the diagram
  • Convert units before calculating, never after
  • Critical angle answers need the condition stated, not just the outcome
  • Sound and the spectrum are short, predictable and often skipped

Waves is the area where students are most likely to understand the physics and least likely to be paid for it. A substantial share of the available marks sits on diagrams, and the diagram conventions are specific: the normal drawn as a dashed line at the point of incidence, arrows on every ray showing direction, angles measured from the normal rather than the surface, and labels where the question asks for them. A ray diagram can be geometrically perfect and lose half its marks on those four points.

The wave equation questions cause a different problem, which is unit handling. Frequency in kilohertz, wavelength in centimetres and a speed required in metres per second is a routine combination, and students who convert at the end rather than the beginning produce answers out by a factor of a thousand with working that otherwise deserves credit. The method mark often survives; the accuracy mark does not.

Total internal reflection and critical angle questions reward precision in language. Light travelling from a denser to a less dense medium, an angle of incidence greater than the critical angle, and the consequence stated as all the light being reflected inside the material: each of those clauses can carry a mark. Students who say the light bounces back have the physics and none of the vocabulary, which is a fixable problem and a common one.

Sound and the electromagnetic spectrum sit alongside this as short, highly predictable units. The audible range, the ordering of the spectrum, a use and a danger for each region, and the echo calculation with the factor of two for the return journey: this is the cheapest list of marks on the whole syllabus, and it is frequently the first thing dropped when a student runs short of revision time.

03

Nuclear physics: the short area with the most reliable marks

Radioactivity is the smallest of the six topic areas and the most predictable. Atomic structure, isotopes, the three types of emission with their properties, nuclear equations, half-life and safety precautions cover almost every question that has ever been asked on it. There is very little room for an unfamiliar context, which makes it the single best use of a final fortnight for a student who has run out of time.

The properties of alpha, beta and gamma radiation are examined through comparison: ionising ability, penetrating power, deflection in fields, and what stops each one. Students who learn these as a table answer confidently; students who learn them as prose confuse beta and gamma under pressure. Nuclear equations require balancing mass number and proton number, which is arithmetic rather than physics, and once shown it rarely goes wrong again.

Half-life is where the marks are lost, and the cause is usually reading rather than understanding. A question gives an initial count rate and asks for the time to fall to a stated level, or gives a time and asks what fraction remains. Students halve the wrong quantity, or count the number of half-lives and forget to multiply by the half-life itself. Three or four worked examples with the steps written out explicitly closes this.

Safety and handling questions are worth separating out, because they reward sensible specifics: distance, shielding, time of exposure, tongs rather than fingers, and storage in a labelled lead container. These are description marks of exactly the kind this syllabus loves, and they are available to a student who has never been near a radioactive source, which every candidate in Abu Dhabi can safely be assumed not to have been.

04

How a longer 0625 answer is split, line by line

The number of marks beside a question is an instruction about length and structure. A four-mark explanation needs four separate creditable statements, not one good one expressed at length. Students who have never been shown this write a dense paragraph containing two marks' worth of physics and conclude that they are bad at written answers, when the problem is that nobody told them to count.

The command word sets the type of each statement. State wants a fact with no reasoning. Describe wants what happens, in sequence, without why. Explain wants the mechanism and the because. Suggest invites a reasonable answer in an unfamiliar context and is marked generously. Calculate wants working and a unit. Determine usually implies reading a value from a graph or diagram first. Mixing these up is the most expensive single habit on this syllabus, and it is also the quickest to change.

Abu Dhabi students in schools where English is the language of instruction but not the language of the home are affected by this more than most, and not for the reason people assume. The limitation is rarely vocabulary. It is that the physics register is unfamiliar to everybody, so a student already working in a second language has two unfamiliar things at once. Practising the sentence shapes directly helps considerably, and it helps faster than general language work would.

The table below sets out the command words with what each line of a full answer has to contain. We give students a version of it to keep beside their revision, and we mark every written answer against it. Within three or four sessions most students stop writing paragraphs and start writing numbered points, which is exactly what the mark scheme is built to reward.

The mandated UAE subjects that sit beside 0625 in an Abu Dhabi week

Any realistic physics plan for an Abu Dhabi student has to start from the real timetable, and the real timetable includes subjects that a British revision guide knows nothing about. The federal position is that private schools in the UAE are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, provided they adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. Those subjects carry lesson time and homework, and they land on the same evenings as everything else.

The detail of how they are organised varies by emirate and by school. In Dubai, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority has published requirements setting out mandatory subject provision, including separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic education and social studies, with combined classes for the two groups prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Abu Dhabi families should ask their own school and check adek.gov.ae rather than assume the Dubai documentation applies unchanged.

Why this belongs on a physics page is simple arithmetic. A Year 11 carrying nine or ten examined subjects plus mandated subjects has perhaps two evenings a week that can hold an hour of concentrated work, and a tutoring plan that assumes four will be abandoned by the middle of term. We would rather schedule one protected hour that survives to the series than two that collapse in November, and we schedule around the mandated subjects rather than pretending they are optional.

Ramadan shifts this again. School hours shorten, family routines change, and the hour that works in February is not the hour that works during the month. Timed papers are better moved out of that window entirely, so that nothing measured happens under conditions that do not represent a normal week. Those are scheduling decisions taken in advance, in writing, rather than improvised when a session is cancelled.

The alternative to practical paper, read as a set of question types

  • Units go in the table heading, and precision stays consistent down a column
  • A line of best fit is not obliged to pass through the origin
  • Name a specific source of error, then address that one in the improvement
  • Apparatus handling belongs to the school; the written analysis can be taught remotely

The practical component carries roughly a fifth of the 0625 grade, and which paper your child sits is decided by the centre rather than the family. One version is a laboratory test; the other assesses the same skills on paper. In either case the skills examined are a short and repeated list: reading an instrument, recording to a consistent precision, tabulating with units in the heading, plotting, drawing a line of best fit, taking a gradient, identifying an anomaly, naming a source of error and suggesting an improvement.

That list is why this component is the most tutorable part of the syllabus and the least often tutored. A student who has never been taught that units belong in the table heading rather than beside each value loses marks in every practical question they ever attempt. A student who draws a line through the origin because lines should go through the origin loses the gradient marks that follow. These are conventions, and conventions can be taught over video as well as in a laboratory.

Error questions reward specificity above everything. Parallax when reading a scale, heat loss to the surroundings, the reaction time in a manual timing, a ruler not held vertically, a thermometer touching the side of a beaker: each of these is a creditable answer. Human error is not, and neither is the equipment was faulty. Improvements have to address the error actually named, which is where most of the remaining marks go missing.

Where a student is sitting the laboratory test, a tutor's honest role is the written and analytical half: the tabulation, the plotting, the analysis and the error reasoning. The handling of apparatus belongs to the school, and we say so plainly rather than implying that a video call substitutes for a bench. That division is worth stating to any provider who claims otherwise.

What separate physics support costs around Abu Dhabi

The published market for tutoring in the UAE spreads across bands that are wide but reasonably well documented, because several providers publish their own numbers. The figures below are theirs, stated as at October 2026, together with the ranges from a 2026 Dubai cost survey. They are market context, not our price list, and Abu Dhabi tracks Dubai closely for online specialist teaching because the tutor pool is national rather than local.

Separate physics sits towards the specialist end of those bands for a reason that has nothing to do with marketing. A tutor who can mark a six-mark explanation against the scheme, correct a ray diagram properly and teach the practical conventions is doing something different from a general science tutor covering three subjects at once. There are fewer such people, and in an emirate where many students are on the coordinated route the local demand for them is thin, which is exactly why online matching changes the arithmetic.

In-home rates in this market include travel, and that travel is bought at the teaching rate. Crossing from the mainland to the island at five in the afternoon is not a small amount of time, and a two-hour booking that contains forty minutes of driving is being charged as two hours of teaching. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. The comparison below exists because families are quoted both and deserve to see the difference stated.

The question worth asking of any quote, from us or anybody else, is what sits inside the hour. Is written work set between sessions. Is it marked against the published scheme, and do you receive the marked script. Is there a record of which topic areas have been tested. Those three answers distinguish products that look identical on a price list.

From 0625 into an Abu Dhabi sixth form

  • Weak algebra, not weak physics, is the usual cause of trouble in the first A Level term
  • Written explanation practice improves a 0625 grade and prepares for the Diploma at once
  • Entry requirements are set by each school and should be read, not assumed
  • Where physics losses are arithmetic, maths support may be the better purchase

The usual reason a family invests in separate physics is what comes next, and the honest picture of that is more specific than most sites admit. Cambridge AS and A Level Physics introduces substantially more algebra, formal treatment of uncertainty, and practical papers of its own. The students who struggle in the first term are rarely the ones who found 0625 content hard. They are the ones whose mathematics was weak, because the physics now arrives wrapped in manipulation they cannot do quickly.

That has a practical consequence for a Year 11 plan. If a student intends to continue physics, the highest-value work alongside it is often algebraic fluency: rearranging, indices, standard form and the handling of units in a calculation. A tutor who notices that the physics losses are arithmetic rather than conceptual should say so, and the right purchase in that case may be maths support rather than more physics hours.

For the IB Diploma route the shift is different again. Explanation carries more weight, experimental work runs across the whole course, and the internal assessment is the student's own from the first draft to the last. A student moving from a Cambridge Year 11 into a Diploma Year 12 benefits most from written explanation practice, which is also the thing that improves a 0625 grade. The two goals point in the same direction, which makes that work unusually good value.

What a sixth form actually requires is set by the school, and published requirements differ across the emirate. The head of sixth form or the head of science can tell you the grade and the subject combination they expect, and that answer is worth more than any general guidance. No tutoring provider can tell you what a particular Abu Dhabi school will accept, and one that offers to is guessing.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Abu Dhabi

What differs between Abu Dhabi communities for a physics plan is the hour available. The notes below set out when a session can realistically run and which school clusters sit nearby, because a slot that collides with a long bus route will not survive the term.

Al Mushrif and Al Karamah

Within reach of several established island campuses with large science departments. Students are generally home early enough for a six o'clock session, which suits the long written practice that description questions need.

Saadiyat Island

Small cohorts, newer campuses and a high rate of mid-year arrivals from other systems. The first job with a transferring physics student is working out which of the six topic areas has actually been taught.

Yas Island and Al Raha Gardens

Mainland and island communities with full after-school activity schedules. A weekend morning works better here for timed theory papers, with the midweek slot kept for marking review.

Khalifa City

A large catchment where buses can arrive after four. The practical compromise is a short weekday session on one topic area and the longer timed work moved to the weekend.

Al Reef and Al Samha

Villa communities along the airport road with a mixed curriculum intake. Specialist separate-science tuition is scarce locally at any price, which is the situation online matching exists for.

Hudayriyat Island and Al Bateen

Short school runs and quiet evenings, with families often juggling sport commitments. We fix one protected physics hour rather than two that compete with training schedules.

Al Shamkha and Al Falah

Newer mainland communities with long journeys to island schools. By the time a Year 11 is home, one focused hour on thermal physics beats two hours of unfocused revision.

Al Jubail Island and Al Bahia

Dispersed addresses where a visiting tutor would spend much of the hour travelling. Online delivery removes that entirely, which is the only reason a specialist is reachable from here at all.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

The island: Al Mushrif, Al Karamah and Al Khalidiyah

The older island campuses hold the emirate's largest British-curriculum science departments, and these are the schools most likely to run separate physics sets rather than a coordinated course. Students we support here are usually entered for Extended papers across all three sciences.

  • The British School Al Khubairat
  • Cambridge International School Abu Dhabi
  • Al Mamoura Academy
  • Abu Dhabi International School
  • Merryland International School
  • Abu Dhabi Grammar School

Saadiyat, Yas and Al Bateen

Newer campuses with smaller year groups, where an option block may force a choice between separate sciences and another subject. Families here frequently ask whether dropping to the coordinated route closes the door on A Level physics, and the sixth form is the right place to ask.

  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • West Yas Academy
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • The Pearl Academy

Khalifa City, Al Raha and Al Reef

The mainland corridor carries a large share of the emirate's newer enrolment across British, American and Indian curricula. Transfers between these schools mid-course are common, and so are students arriving with two topic areas never covered.

  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • Raha International School
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Reach British School
  • Al Dhafra Private Schools

These schools are named to describe the Abu Dhabi education sector and nothing more. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any school, school group, examination board or government authority mentioned on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send a marked script, not a report

The useful first message carries your child's most recent marked physics paper, a note of whether the entry is Core or Extended if you know, and the evenings that are genuinely free. The script lets a specialist count lost marks by topic area, which is where the plan comes from.

  2. 02

A free first lesson that counts the losses

The trial session is a working hour. Marks from the script are counted by topic area and by question type, your child writes one longer answer, and that answer is marked against the scheme wording in front of them. You receive the written count whether or not you continue.

  3. 03

Agree the target and the hour

Topic-area repair, description practice, or weekly support across the course. The slot is fixed in Gulf Standard Time around the school week, with timed papers moved to a weekend where the commute from the mainland corridor is long.

  4. 04

Written work, marked before the next session

Each session sets written answers, which come back marked line by line against the published scheme. Diagrams are drawn by the student and corrected to the conventions. This is the mechanism that moves description marks, and it is what the cheaper bands leave out.

  5. 05

    Recount at the halfway point

After several weeks the lost marks are counted again on a comparable paper. If the targeted area has not moved, the plan changes or we say that further sessions are not the right purchase. That conversation is built in rather than avoided.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

A separate-physics specialist

0625 is taught by the larger science departments in this emirate and by a minority of tutors. Matching online rather than by driving distance is how a family in Al Shamkha or on Hudayriyat reaches somebody who marks explanation questions properly.

The plan comes from a mark count

Topic choice is decided by counting losses on a real script, not by asking a fifteen-year-old what feels difficult. The count almost always disagrees with the impression, and thermal physics and waves are where it usually points.

Answer writing treated as a skill

Command words, mechanisms in particle terms and answers built to the number of marks on offer. This is the most transferable thing a 0625 student can be taught, and it improves every topic area at the same time.

Practical conventions taught honestly

Tabulation, plotting, gradients, anomalies and specific error reasoning can all be taught over video. Handling apparatus cannot, and we say so rather than implying that a video call replaces a laboratory bench.

A timetable that includes the mandated subjects

Arabic, Islamic education and social studies carry real hours in an Abu Dhabi week. We schedule one protected slot that survives the term rather than a plan built on evenings that are already taken.

No claims we cannot stand behind

No grade promises, no implied approval from ADEK or any examination board, no IB dates we cannot source, and no board material redistributed as downloads. What has been checked is named; nothing beyond it is implied.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

Which thermal physics questions come up most often in 0625?+

A small and predictable set. Explaining conduction in a metal in terms of free electrons, explaining convection through density change, calculating energy with specific heat capacity and latent heat, describing an experiment to measure specific heat capacity, and suggesting why a measured value came out high or low. Radiation questions about shiny and dull surfaces recur as well. Because the set is this stable, the area rewards targeted work more than almost anything else on the syllabus, and it is usually revised last because it was taught first.

My daughter can describe an experiment but scores two out of four. Why?+

Because a four-mark answer needs four separate creditable statements, and a good description often contains two expressed at length. For a practical method the marks are usually spread across named apparatus, the quantities actually measured, how they are measured, and the calculation that follows. A student who writes fluently about setting up the equipment and never states which values are recorded has written half an answer. Counting the marks and planning one point each is a change that takes a few sessions and affects every topic area.

Does 0625 still include radioactivity, and is it worth revising?+

Nuclear physics is one of the six topic areas in the current syllabus, and it is the best value in the final fortnight. The question types barely vary: comparing the three emissions, balancing nuclear equations, half-life from a count rate or a graph, safety and handling, and background radiation. There is very little scope for an unfamiliar context, so a student who has run short of time will recover more marks here per hour than in electricity. Confirm the content for your child's series on cambridgeinternational.org, since syllabuses are revised periodically.

What does a six-mark 0625 question actually need in each line?+

Six separate creditable points, with the command word setting the type of each. If the question says explain, each line should carry a mechanism and a consequence rather than a restatement. If it says describe, the lines should be a sequence of what happens with no why attached. The practical habit is to write the number of marks at the top of the answer space and plan that many short statements before starting. Students who do this stop writing paragraphs and start collecting marks, usually within three or four sessions.

How do ray diagrams get marked in 0625?+

Largely on convention, which is why a geometrically correct diagram can still lose half its marks. The normal should be drawn as a dashed line at the point of incidence, every ray should carry an arrow showing direction, angles should be measured from the normal rather than from the surface, and labels should appear where the question asks for them. For lenses, the construction rays themselves carry marks. These are all teachable over video, because the student draws and the tutor corrects against the scheme in real time.

How many hours a week does the mandated subject load leave for physics?+

Less than most revision timetables assume. Private schools in the UAE teach Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies alongside their own curriculum as part of the federal baseline, and those subjects carry homework that lands on the same evenings as everything else. A Year 11 with nine or ten examined subjects realistically has two evenings that can hold an hour of concentrated work. We would rather fix one protected physics hour that lasts until the series than agree to three that quietly disappear after November.

Which Abu Dhabi schools enter candidates for separate Cambridge physics?+

Typically the larger British-curriculum departments, several of which sit on the island and in the Khalifa City corridor, while a good number of schools put most of a year group on the coordinated route and reserve separate sciences for students intending to continue them. The decision belongs to the department rather than to the regulator. The question to ask a head of science is how many students are entered for separate physics this year, at which tier, and what the sixth form expects from those who want to continue.

Are sound and the electromagnetic spectrum worth separate revision time?+

Yes, and they are among the cheapest marks available. The question types are narrow: the audible range, how sound travels as a longitudinal wave, the echo calculation with its factor of two for the return journey, the order of the spectrum, and a use and a danger for each region. A couple of hours covers the lot. Students under time pressure usually drop this first because it feels like general knowledge, and then meet two or three questions on it in the papers they actually sit.

What does a 0625 physics tutor charge an hour around Abu Dhabi?+

Published market figures put qualified online subject tutors at roughly AED 150 to 300 and separate-science specialists at AED 200 to 450 or above, with one provider publishing AED 650 at the premium end. In-home rates in the UAE run from about AED 180 to 500, and that band includes travel bought at the teaching rate. Those are other providers' own published numbers as at October 2026 rather than our price list. For physics the thing to check inside any rate is whether written work is marked against the scheme between sessions.

Will you send a physics tutor to our home on Saadiyat Island?+

No. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. Lessons for Abu Dhabi families run one to one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. For separate physics that works in your favour: the constraint is not distance but the number of people who can mark an explanation question properly and correct a ray diagram to the conventions, and matching online rather than by postcode is what makes one of them available to a family on Saadiyat.

Do tutors need a UAE permit to teach my child physics online?+

Private tutoring in the country is regulated by permit. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through MoHRE, and federal guidance states it is granted free of charge for two years, with eligible applicants including school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Those without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published. We check a tutor's permit position before a match and describe it as nothing more than that.

How does 0625 compare with the physics inside Co-ordinated Sciences?+

The separate syllabus goes further in most areas and produces a single physics grade, while the coordinated double award covers all three sciences and produces two grades across them. The physics content inside the coordinated course is narrower, and it uses the same command vocabulary and the same practical conventions, so a student who loses marks on explanation questions in one will lose them in the other. If your child is on the coordinated route and wants to continue physics, the question belongs to the sixth form rather than to a comparison of content lists.

My son has four weeks before the paper. What is realistic for 0625?+

Four weeks can move a grade, and it cannot cover a syllabus. The honest plan prioritises by marks per hour: nuclear physics first because the question types are the most predictable, then sound and the electromagnetic spectrum, then thermal physics description answers, then command word practice across whatever topics the script shows as weak. New content in electricity is a poor use of the last fortnight. If the script shows large content gaps across several areas, we would say that plainly rather than sell four weeks of sessions that cannot close them.

What does an Abu Dhabi sixth form expect from a 0625 grade?+

Each school sets its own entry requirements, so the published requirement at your child's school is the only reliable answer, and the head of sixth form can give it to you directly. What is consistent across them is that Cambridge AS and A Level Physics assumes considerably more algebra than 0625 does, and the students who struggle in the first term are usually the ones whose mathematics was weak rather than their physics. Where a Year 11 script shows arithmetic losses rather than conceptual ones, maths support can be the better purchase.

Is a weekend morning better than a weekday evening for physics?+

For timed papers and long written answers, yes, and most Abu Dhabi families settle on a mix. A weekday session after a long bus journey from the island to Al Shamkha or Al Reef is useful for review and poor for anything that needs an uninterrupted hour, while a weekend morning holds a full theory paper comfortably. The arrangement we most often end up with is a short midweek review and the measured work at the weekend, with the timings agreed in advance rather than rearranged each week.

Count the lost marks before buying any hours

If your child is sitting Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 at a school in Abu Dhabi and the school has said electricity is the problem, the first useful step is to count the lost marks by topic area on a real script. Send the most recent marked paper, note whether the entry is Core or Extended, and say which evenings are genuinely free. The free first session does the count, marks one longer written answer against the scheme in front of your child, and gives you the result in writing. Lessons run one to one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.
