Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 Tutor in Abu Dhabi

A Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 tutor in Abu Dhabi is usually hired in the fortnight after a mock, and the first question a parent asks is what it costs. This page answers that in dirhams before it recommends anything: what the market charges by provider model, which variables move a quote in this emirate, and how the Core or Extended entry and the practical paper choice change the number of hours you are buying. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with a trial lesson before any money is committed.

  • Market rates quoted in AED, with the provider and the month attributed
  • Core and Extended 0610 entries costed separately, because the papers differ
  • One-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, never a group class
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit explained, including how a parent checks it

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

Price first, because almost every page in this search refuses

Three of the six highest-ranking pages for Abu Dhabi science tutoring publish no price at all. Two quote in US dollars, a currency no UAE family transacts in. One asks the price in its own frequently asked questions and then declines to answer it. That silence is a choice, and it costs parents weeks: you cannot compare a tuition centre, an agency and an independent tutor if only one of the three will say a number. So this page starts with the market rates in AED, states where each figure came from, and only then explains what a Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 tutor actually does with the money.

The honest framing is that there is no single rate for 0610. The band published across UAE providers for qualified science tuition runs from roughly AED 150 an hour at the lower end of the qualified-tutor tier to AED 450 and above for specialist exam-year work, and the gap is not arbitrary. It tracks six things: the tutor's subject depth, whether the entry is Core or Extended, which practical component the school has entered, how close the series is, how long each session runs, and whether anyone is being paid to sit in traffic. Abu Dhabi adds a seventh, which is scarcity. The emirate has a smaller independent tutoring market than Dubai, and a Biology specialist who knows the 0610 mark scheme is harder to find inside a twenty-minute drive of Khalifa City than inside the same radius of Jumeirah.

That scarcity is the single clearest argument for delivering lessons over live video rather than in person, and it is worth being direct about it. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. Every UAE lesson runs one-to-one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. The result for an Al Shamkha or Al Reef family is not a compromise. It is access to a Biology specialist who has worked through hundreds of 0610 scripts, instead of whichever generalist happens to live nearby and is free at six in the evening.

Abu Dhabi has its own regulator, and it matters for cost in a way parents rarely hear about. The Department of Education and Knowledge, ADEK, supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. Press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules indicates that private and charter school staff are barred from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and that teachers tutoring outside school hours must hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, whose code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with their own school. Verify the current wording against ADEK's own policy document before relying on it. The practical effect is that the obvious cheap option, your child's own Biology teacher after hours, is not an option in Abu Dhabi, and the supply of permitted local specialists is correspondingly thinner.

What follows is costed, not estimated. There is a rate table by provider model with sources. There is a component table showing which 0610 papers your child sits and what each one needs, because an Extended candidate sitting Paper 4 and Paper 5 is buying different hours from a Core candidate sitting Paper 3 and Paper 6. There is a section on everything that is not on the tutor's invoice, from private-candidate entry fees to re-mark charges. And there is a plain statement of the permit position, with the official application route, so you can check who you are hiring rather than taking anyone's word for it.

At a glance

  • Published UAE rates for qualified science tuition: roughly AED 150-300 online, AED 200-450+ for specialist exam-year work
  • The 0610 practical component carries 20% of the grade, and Paper 5 and Paper 6 need different preparation
  • ADEK ethics rules mean your child's own school teacher cannot be the cheap private option in Abu Dhabi
  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is granted free of charge for two years under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023
  • Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Biology 0610 sits inside a longer route, and the cost of support changes at each stage. A Year 10 student buying consolidation hours is not in the same market as a Year 11 candidate eight weeks from a series, and an AS Level student carrying a weak 0610 foundation is buying remediation on top of new content. These are the stages Abu Dhabi families most often ask us to cost.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE (Core and Extended)

The two-year course that ends in the 0610 certificate. Candidates follow either the Core route, which is assessed by Paper 1 and Paper 3, or the Extended route, assessed by Paper 2 and Paper 4, and both add a practical component. Core caps the available grade; Extended opens the full range. Confirm which route your child's school has entered them for on the statement of entry rather than assuming, because set placement and entry code are decided separately and families are often surprised.

Abu Dhabi schools licensed by ADEK run both routes, and the mix is school-specific rather than emirate-wide. Schools in the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor with large Year 11 cohorts often stream by attainment early, while some island schools delay the decision until the end of Year 10. If the entry is still open, a term of targeted support is cheaper than a late tier change and far cheaper than a resit.

IGCSE-SCIAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

The combined and coordinated science alternatives

Not every Abu Dhabi student takes separate Biology. Combined Science 0653 awards one grade across biology, chemistry and physics; Coordinated Sciences 0654 awards two. A family weighing separate 0610 against one of these is weighing three sets of tutoring hours against one or two, and the arithmetic usually decides the question faster than the prospectus does. Work out what the certificate needs to open before you cost the hours.

In Abu Dhabi the choice is often made by timetable capacity rather than by preference, particularly in schools where the science department runs limited separate-science sets. Where a student has been placed on a combined route but wants A Level Biology at a school such as Cranleigh Abu Dhabi or The British School Al Khubairat, the gap to close is specific and can be costed as a block of hours rather than an open-ended commitment.

AS-AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

Cambridge International AS and A Level Biology

The 9700 syllabus assumes the Extended 0610 content as a floor and then moves quickly into biochemistry, transport mechanisms and statistical treatment of data. Students who passed 0610 on recall rather than reasoning find the first AS term expensive, because they are paying someone to reteach foundations while new material arrives weekly. Spending on 0610 reasoning in Year 11 is almost always cheaper than spending on AS remediation in Year 12.

Abu Dhabi sixth forms feed Khalifa University, UAE University and the international applications that run through school counsellors. Universities publish their own subject requirements and these change, so check the current published entry criteria for each programme directly rather than relying on a tutoring page. What a tutor can do is make the AS prerequisite genuinely secure before the course starts.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP Years 1-5

IB MYP sciences, for students crossing over

Some Abu Dhabi students move from an IB Middle Years Programme science course into a Cambridge IGCSE entry, usually at a school change. MYP assesses against criteria and rewards investigation design and reflection; 0610 rewards precise recall and tight command-term answers. The transition is not a knowledge gap so much as an answer-style gap, and it is one of the cheapest things to fix because it responds to marked practice rather than reteaching.

Abu Dhabi has both IB and Cambridge schools within a few kilometres of each other, so mid-course moves happen more often here than the curriculum literature suggests. A student arriving from an MYP cohort in Al Reem Island into a Cambridge Year 11 set in Khalifa City typically needs a short diagnostic block, not a two-year programme, and should be quoted on that basis.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Families rarely buy one subject. The common Abu Dhabi pattern is Biology plus one other science, or Biology plus Mathematics, and the cost of the second subject is usually lower than the first because the diagnostic work is already done. These are the codes most often requested alongside 0610.

Biology (0610)

Core and Extended

Twenty-one topic areas with a heavy recall load and a reasoning layer on top. The expensive weaknesses are enzyme and transport explanations, genetics crosses written without working, and data questions where the student describes a graph instead of explaining it. All three respond to marked practice rather than reteaching.

Chemistry (0620)

Core and Extended

Pairs with Biology for medicine and life-science routes. The costly gaps are mole calculations, ionic equations and the qualitative analysis tables, and they compound: a student who cannot balance an equation loses marks across half the paper, so hours bought early go further than hours bought in April.

Physics (0625)

Core and Extended

The third separate science. Marks concentrate in formula selection, unit handling and graph gradient work. For a family already paying for Biology, Physics is often the better second purchase because its failure modes are narrower and therefore quicker to close.

Coordinated Sciences (0654)

Core and Extended, double award

Two grades covering all three sciences. Students on this route who want A Level Biology need the 0610 reasoning depth that the coordinated syllabus treats more lightly, and that specific gap can be quoted as a defined block of hours.

Combined Science (0653)

Core and Extended, single award

One grade for three sciences. The commonest cost question is whether one tutor can cover all three, and the answer depends on which of the three is actually failing. Diagnose before you buy a triple-subject package.

Physical Science (0652)

Core and Extended

Chemistry and physics without biology, offered by a small number of schools. Families who find themselves on this route usually need help identifying which half of the paper is losing marks before any hours are committed.

Mathematics (0580)

Core and Extended

The most frequent second purchase alongside Biology, because the data-handling and ratio work in 0610 depends on it. A student who cannot reliably calculate a percentage change will lose 0610 data marks that look like biology marks on a report.

Additional Mathematics (0606)

Single tier

Taken by stronger Year 11 sets heading for A Level sciences. Worth costing only once the core subjects are secure; it is an enrichment purchase, not a remedial one.

Environmental Management (0680)

Single tier

Overlaps 0610 ecology and human-impact content, so a student taking both can often be supported in shared sessions. That overlap is one of the few genuine ways to reduce total tutoring spend without reducing hours on biology.

Cambridge International AS and A Level Biology (9700)

AS and full A Level

The continuation route. Early AS support is frequently bought to repair 0610 foundations rather than to teach new AS content, which is why spending in Year 11 is the cheaper option.

IB DP Biology

HL and SL

Requested by Abu Dhabi families whose children move from a Cambridge Year 11 into an IB Diploma. The content overlap is real but the assessment style differs sharply, and the internal assessment is where the hours go.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats are available, they cost different amounts, and they are good at different things. The honest answer is that the cheapest format is not always the wrong one; it depends entirely on whether your child's problem is coverage or precision.

Weekly one-to-one, over live video

The standard format. One tutor, one student, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time, with written work set between sessions and marked before the next one. This is what you are buying at the qualified and specialist rate bands, and the thing that justifies the price is the marking, not the talking. A session that produces no marked script is a conversation, and conversations do not move 0610 grades.

  • Typically 60 or 90 minutes; the longer slot suits full-paper work in exam term
  • Written answers marked against the Cambridge command terms between sessions
  • No travel component, so no travel premium in the rate
  • Slots held in the 5pm to 9pm Gulf Standard Time window most Abu Dhabi families need

A short diagnostic block before committing

Three or four sessions bought as a defined block to find out what is actually wrong, before anyone commits to a term. For a family unsure whether the problem is biology recall, written precision or mathematics, this is the cheapest way to find out, and it prevents the commonest expensive mistake, which is buying a year of general support for a specific fault.

  • A cold timed past-paper section under exam conditions in the first session
  • A written summary of which question types lose marks and why
  • An hours estimate for closing each gap, so the term can be budgeted
  • No obligation to continue beyond the block

Exam-term intensive, bought as hours not months

In the weeks before a series, families want volume. Buying that as a stated number of hours rather than an open monthly commitment keeps the spend visible and lets the plan end when the papers do. Rates across the UAE market rise closer to a series because demand does, so booking the block early is a cost decision as much as an academic one.

  • Two or three sessions a week through the final six to eight weeks
  • Full papers sat to time, then marked and reviewed question by question
  • Practical component work targeted at the specific paper the school entered
  • A fixed hour count agreed in advance, with the end date stated

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

What an hour of 0610 support actually costs in Abu Dhabi

Qualified one-to-one science tuition in the UAE is published between roughly AED 150 and AED 300 an hour online, and between roughly AED 200 and AED 450 an hour for specialist exam-year work. Those are market figures taken from providers' own published pages, not an IB Gram price list. The table below sets them out by provider model with the source attached, because a number without a source is worth very little when you are comparing four quotes.

Read the table as a map of what you are buying rather than a ranking. The budget tier exists and it is legitimate for some purposes: a university student who sat 0610 four years ago can drill recall effectively and cheaply. What that tier generally does not include is marking written answers against the current Cambridge command terms, which is the work that moves an Extended candidate from a 5 to a 7. The specialist tier charges for exactly that, and if a quote in the specialist band does not include marked written work between sessions, the premium is not buying you anything.

The in-home column deserves separate attention in this emirate. Published in-home rates sit above the online equivalent for the same tutor quality, and the difference is travel. A tutor driving from the island to Al Shamkha and back loses most of an hour in each direction, and that hour is priced into the lesson whether the quote names it or not. Across a thirty-week year the travel component alone can exceed the cost of a full exam-term intensive block. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi, and families who cost the travel line honestly rarely ask for them twice.

One more thing the table cannot show: availability. A rate is only real if someone is free at the time you need. In February and March, evening slots in the 6pm to 9pm Gulf Standard Time window are the scarce resource in Abu Dhabi, not the tutors themselves. Families who book a block in November pay the quiet-season rate and get the slot they want; families who start in March pay more for less convenient timing.

02

The seven variables that move a 0610 quote in this emirate

  • Subject depth: general science against a 0610 Biology specialist
  • Entry route: Core Paper 1 and 3, or Extended Paper 2 and 4
  • Practical component: Paper 5 practical test or Paper 6 alternative to practical
  • Proximity to the series, session length, travel, and local scarcity of permitted specialists
  • The unpriced variable: how many written answers come back marked each week

Two Abu Dhabi tutors can quote AED 180 and AED 400 for what sounds like the same lesson, and both can be quoting fairly. The difference is usually not quality in the abstract but a combination of seven measurable things, and a parent who asks about each one directly gets a comparable set of quotes instead of a set of numbers.

The first is subject depth: a general science tutor and a Biology specialist who works through 0610 scripts weekly are different purchases. The second is the entry route, because a Core candidate and an Extended candidate are preparing different papers. The third is the practical component, since Paper 5 and Paper 6 demand different preparation and the school decides which one your child sits. The fourth is proximity to the series, and rates across the UAE market do rise as a session approaches because evening demand rises. The fifth is session length, because a 90-minute slot allows a full paper section sat to time and a 45-minute slot does not.

The sixth is travel, which exists in every in-home quote in Abu Dhabi whether or not it appears as a line item. The seventh is scarcity, and this is the one specific to the emirate. Abu Dhabi's independent tutoring market is smaller than Dubai's, and the ADEK professional-ethics position reported in the press removes the most convenient local supply, because school staff may not take paid private work with students enrolled at their own school. Fewer permitted local specialists chasing the same February evening slots means a higher local rate for the same work.

There is an eighth variable that nobody prices, and it is the one that actually determines value: how much of your child's written work comes back marked. Ask every provider that question before you compare anything else. A cheaper tutor who marks three written answers a week is better value than an expensive one who marks none, and the difference will show on a mock script long before it shows on a bank statement.

03

Which papers your child sits, and what each one costs in hours

You cannot cost 0610 support sensibly without knowing which three components your child is entered for. Cambridge assesses the syllabus through a multiple-choice paper, a theory paper and a practical component, with separate versions for Core and Extended candidates. The statement of entry from the school carries the answer. Ask for it before you book anything, and confirm the current component structure and weightings for your child's exam year on cambridgeinternational.org, because syllabus versions change.

The reason this matters financially is that the three components absorb very different amounts of tutoring. The multiple-choice paper responds to recall drilling, which is the cheapest hour on the table and the one a budget-tier tutor can deliver competently. The theory paper is where the specialist rate earns its money, because the marks there are won by writing precise answers to command terms and lost by writing vaguely correct ones. The practical component is narrow, technical and highly coachable, and it is the one families most often ignore until February despite it carrying a fifth of the grade.

A worked example makes the arithmetic visible. Take an Extended candidate sitting Paper 2, Paper 4 and Paper 6, currently at a grade 5 with a theory-paper problem. Hours on multiple-choice recall will move very little, because that is not where the marks are leaking. Hours on written command-term work and marked practice answers will. A plan that spends two thirds of its hours on Paper 4 technique and the remainder on Paper 6 question types is a smaller plan than a general revision programme and will usually cost less while doing more.

The table below sets out the components, what each one actually asks for, and where the tutoring hours go. Treat the weightings as the published shape of the assessment and verify the current figures for your child's series on the Cambridge syllabus document before you rely on them for planning.

04

Core or Extended: the ceiling you are paying to raise

The Core and Extended decision is the largest single cost variable in 0610 support, and it is often treated as an administrative detail. Core assessment covers the core syllabus content and caps the grade available; Extended covers the supplementary content as well and opens the full range. A family paying for tutoring without knowing which route the school has entered is buying hours against an unknown target.

Three situations recur in Abu Dhabi. The first is a student in a Core set who needs Extended for an A Level science route, where the question is whether the school will move them and what evidence it wants. That is the cheapest problem to solve early and the most expensive to solve in March, because a late tier change means covering supplementary content at speed on top of normal revision. The second is a student in an Extended set who is not coping, where the honest answer may be that a secure Core grade serves them better than a struggling Extended entry. The third is a student correctly placed on Extended whose grade has stalled, which is a technique problem rather than a tier problem.

Each situation carries a different price. Moving tiers upward is a content purchase measured in terms, not weeks. Stabilising a struggling Extended candidate is a technique purchase measured in marked scripts. Deciding between the two is a diagnostic purchase of three or four sessions. Knowing which conversation you are in before you ask for a quote is worth more than any discount you will negotiate.

One caution applies throughout. No tutor can promise a tier change, a grade or a specific improvement, and any provider that does is selling something they cannot deliver. What a tutor can do is produce the marked evidence a head of science actually responds to when deciding a set or an entry, and set out honestly how many weeks of work that evidence typically takes to assemble.

What is not on the tutor's invoice

  • School entry fees sit inside the school's ADEK-governed fee structure; ask the finance office
  • Private-candidate entry runs through a registered examination centre with its own administration charge
  • We link official Cambridge material rather than supplying syllabus documents or mark schemes
  • Review of marking and resit charges are set by the centre and the series; get them in writing
  • A plan that avoids a resit is almost always the cheapest plan available

Parents budget for the hourly rate and are then surprised by everything else. Some of these costs are unavoidable, some are optional, and a few only appear if something goes wrong, but all of them belong in the plan before you commit to a term of lessons.

The first is examination entry itself. For a candidate entered by their school the entry sits inside the school's fee structure, and in Abu Dhabi private school fees operate under ADEK's framework, with schools applying to the regulator rather than setting increases freely. Confirm the current position with the school's finance office rather than with a tutoring page. For a private candidate sitting outside a school, entry is arranged and paid through a registered examination centre, and the centre sets its own administration charge on top of the Cambridge fee. That route is more common in Abu Dhabi than people expect, usually for a resit or a retake in a different series.

The second is the material. A tutor may reference and link the official Cambridge syllabus and specimen material, and should direct you to cambridgeinternational.org to obtain it, but reproducing or supplying syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads is a copyright matter and we do not do it. Your child's school has legitimate access to practice material through its Cambridge centre, and asking the science department for it costs nothing.

The third is what happens after results. A review of marking has a published cost and a short deadline, and the request goes through the school as the centre rather than directly from a parent. A resit in a later series means another entry fee and, usually, another block of tutoring hours. Both are a reason to spend earlier rather than later: the cheapest version of a 0610 plan is the one that does not need a second attempt. Figures for entry, review and resit charges vary by centre and by series, so get them in writing from the school or centre rather than from any provider.

06

Why Abu Dhabi pays a scarcity premium, and how a family avoids it

Abu Dhabi's independent tutoring market is smaller than Dubai's, and the effect on price is straightforward. Fewer permitted Biology specialists are available in the emirate, demand concentrates into the same early-evening window, and the rate for a specialist hour in February reflects that. This is a supply problem, and families keep trying to solve it by paying more rather than by widening the pool.

Two structural facts narrow the local pool further. The private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 defines who may legally provide private lessons, and that is a boundary rather than an inconvenience: a tutor without a permit is not a cheaper option, they are an unpermitted one. Separately, ADEK's professional-ethics position as reported in the press bars private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct is reported to bar serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Verify both against the current source documents. Between them, the two rules remove the most obvious local supply from the market.

Online delivery is the answer that costs less rather than more, and it is worth stating plainly why. A video lesson removes the travel component from the rate, removes the geographic limit on who can teach your child, and removes the scheduling fragility that comes from a tutor crossing the emirate in evening traffic. A family in Al Falah or Al Ghadeer gets the same access to a 0610 specialist as a family in Al Bateen, at the same rate, in the slot they actually wanted.

To be unambiguous about what is being sold: IB Gram does not provide in-person tutoring in Abu Dhabi, and we do not arrange home visits anywhere in the UAE. Home visiting is a service offered only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. We say so before you book rather than after, because the commonest complaint about tutoring agencies in this market is discovering the delivery model late.

07

Permits, invoices and what a free trial has to tell you

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, and this is one of the few places where a parent can check something concrete rather than taking a claim on trust. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and the eligible categories include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service page is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fees, states a two-working-day completion time, and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

Two things follow for cost. First, nobody should be charging you for the permit, because the permit itself carries no fee. Second, a tutor who tells you no permit is needed is wrong: individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no figure should be quoted to you either, and a provider quoting one is guessing.

On invoicing, ask for the rate, the session length, the number of sessions, and whether the figure is per hour or per lesson, in writing, before the first paid session. Ask specifically whether marking of written work between sessions is included at that rate or billed separately. On VAT, the correct answer from any provider is whether their own quoted price includes it; the general tax treatment of tuition in the UAE is a question for the Federal Tax Authority's own guidance rather than for a tutoring page, and we do not state it as fact here.

A trial lesson is genuinely free only if the conditions are on the same screen as the word. Ours is one session, with no card details required to book it, no automatic conversion into a paid block, and a written summary afterwards of what the session found. The line a 0610 tutor does not cross, and why it protects your spend

Cambridge IGCSE Biology does not carry an internal assessment in the way an IB Diploma subject does, but 0610 students still produce practical write-ups, coursework-style tasks set by the school, and prepared work for the practical component. The boundary around that work is not a formality. A tutor teaches method, explains why a particular control variable matters, reviews a student's own draft and gives feedback on it. A tutor does not write it, complete it, or produce a version for the student to submit. We will not do that, and no amount of exam pressure changes the answer.

This matters commercially as well as ethically. There are providers in this market selling completed assessed work, and one published rate card for finished Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. A family who buys that has bought an academic-malpractice exposure for their child and a document that teaches them nothing. The marks on a practical paper come from understanding method well enough to write about an unfamiliar experiment under time, which is precisely the skill that cannot be bought ready-made.

What a tutor can legitimately do with practical work is substantial and is where some of the best value in a 0610 plan sits. Reading a student's own method and asking where the error would come from. Working through how to record results so that the recording convention itself does not lose marks. Practising the written questions about variables, reliability and improvement that the alternative-to-practical paper is built from. All of that is teaching, all of it is attributable to the student's own work, and all of it shows up in marks.

The same boundary applies to materials. We reference the official Cambridge syllabus and specimen papers and point you to the source; we do not reproduce or distribute them. If a provider offers you a bundle of past papers and mark schemes as a selling point, note that they are distributing material they do not own, and ask yourself what else they are relaxed about.

A Cambridge series counted backwards, and why early hours cost less

  • Entry deadlines sit months before the papers: the June series closes entries in the spring, and the November series closes in the months ahead of it
  • Tier and component decisions are locked at the entry deadline, which is when they stop being cheap
  • Centres sit in one of six Cambridge zones; use the timetable version for your centre's zone
  • Plan around the Ramadan weeks rather than discovering them mid-revision

Cambridge International runs IGCSE exams in a June series and a November series, and the entry deadline for either sits months before the first paper. Within a series the papers are not sat on a single day: a 0610 candidate's multiple-choice, theory and alternative-to-practical components are spread across the window, and the order they fall in depends on which administrative zone the centre belongs to, so a revision plan built on last year's sequence can put a student in front of the wrong paper first. Counted backwards, a June session means entries closing in the spring, forecast grades once the mocks are marked, then results on Direct some weeks after the final paper, with certificates later again; the November series behaves the same way, shifted. Pearson's parallel route is the one that publishes hard dates for comparison: its June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026. Always use the official dates for your child's own series and zone from cambridgeinternational.org rather than a restatement.

Read that sequence as a budget, not a calendar. The decisions that cost the most to change, the entry code and the tier, are locked by the entry deadline, which falls roughly two months before the papers. A family that starts tutoring after the mock in January has already passed the point where the cheap decisions were available and is now paying for the expensive ones. The same hours bought in September would have been spent on content and tier evidence; bought in February they are spent on triage.

There is also a timetable trap worth knowing about. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and says it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable. Ask your child's school which zone the centre sits in, and work from the school's own copy of the timetable. A revision plan built on the wrong zone's dates is a plan built on sand.

For planning purposes, the practical sequence for an Abu Dhabi family is simple. Confirm the series and the component entries in the autumn term. Buy a diagnostic block early enough that tier evidence is still useful. Keep the exam-term intensive to a fixed hour count agreed in advance. And build in the Ramadan shift, because revision rhythm in the UAE changes for several weeks and a plan that ignores it will quietly lose a fortnight of work.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi is spread across the island, the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor, Yas and Saadiyat, and the newer mainland communities. Those distances are exactly why the in-home rate carries a travel premium and why a video lesson removes it. The notes below are about cost and timing rather than scenery.

Al Khalidiyah and the Corniche

Dense central housing with short school runs, so an in-home tutor loses less time here than almost anywhere else in the emirate. That is also why local in-home rates hold at the upper end: demand is high and the travel cost is low enough that tutors can fill an evening.

Al Mushrif and Al Karamah

Long-established family villas within reach of several British-curriculum schools. Families here often start with one subject and add a second mid-year, and the second subject should be quoted lower because the diagnostic work is already done.

Khalifa City

A large Year 10 and 11 population and a long drive from the island. An in-home tutor crossing from central Abu Dhabi charges for that drive whether the quote names it or not, which is where the gap between an AED 200 and an AED 350 hour often sits.

Al Raha Beach and Al Raha Gardens

Villa and apartment communities with a heavy school-run pattern. A 4pm session is unrealistic for most households here; evenings from 6pm onwards work, and a video lesson is the only format that reliably holds that slot without a surcharge.

Saadiyat Island and Al Reem Island

Newer, higher-fee school catchments where parents compare tutoring against the school's own after-school support. The comparison worth making is not price alone but how much marked work comes back, which is the thing most group provision does not do.

Yas Island and Al Zeina

Access is straightforward but the distances are real. Families here are among the quickest to switch to video delivery once they have costed the travel component of an in-home quote across a full term rather than a single lesson.

Al Shamkha, Al Falah and Zayed City

Fast-growing mainland communities where the local pool of permitted Biology specialists is thinnest. This is where the scarcity premium on an in-home rate bites hardest, and where online delivery changes the available choice most.

Al Reef, Al Samha and Al Ghadeer

Northern communities close to the Dubai road. Some families here hire tutors travelling from Dubai, which adds an hour of unbilled driving to the tutor's evening and a premium to the quote. Video delivery removes that line entirely.

Mussafah and Baniyas

Mixed housing with several large-cohort schools nearby. Group classes are common and cheap, and they suit consolidation; they do not suit a student whose problem is that nobody has read their written answers closely.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Island and central Abu Dhabi

Schools in the central and island catchments draw from Al Khalidiyah, Al Bateen, Al Mushrif, Al Nahyan and the Corniche. Several run large Extended science sets, which means the Year 11 revision calendar is tight and competition for evening tutor slots in February and March is the real constraint on price.

  • The British School Al Khubairat
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • Repton School Abu Dhabi
  • Abu Dhabi International School

Khalifa City, Al Raha and Yas

The corridor between the island and the airport road carries a large share of the emirate's Year 10 and Year 11 cohort. Distances here are what put the travel premium into in-home quotes, and they are the clearest reason families in this cluster move to video delivery for a full academic year rather than a single term.

  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • Raha International School
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Reach British School
  • West Yas Academy
  • Yasmina British Academy

Mainland and southern communities

Al Shamkha, Al Falah, Mussafah, Baniyas and the Al Reef and Al Samha belt. Local tutor supply is thinner than on the island and rates quoted for travel into these communities reflect that. Students here benefit most from access to a subject specialist who is not constrained by where they live.

  • Mayoor Private School
  • GEMS Cambridge International School Abu Dhabi
  • Merryland International School
  • Bright Riders School Abu Dhabi
  • Emirates National Schools
  • Global Indian International School Abu Dhabi

Schools are named here only to describe the Abu Dhabi context families are asking about; no affiliation, endorsement or relationship with any named school is implied, and school listings change, so check ADEK's own published register for current information.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the three documents that make a quote accurate

The statement of entry showing the 0610 components, the most recent marked science script, and the school report. With those three, an hours estimate can be specific. Without them, any number quoted is a guess, and a guessed quote is how families end up paying for a year of general support to fix a particular fault.

  2. 02

Take the trial session and read the written summary

One session, no card details required to book it, and a written note afterwards setting out which question types lost marks and why. The summary is the product of the trial; if a trial anywhere produces only a friendly impression, you have learned nothing you can budget against.

  3. 03

Agree the rate, the format and the hour count in writing

Rate per hour or per lesson, session length, number of sessions, whether marking between sessions is included, and the end date of the block. All of it in writing before the first paid session. This is the step that prevents the two commonest disputes in this market, which are scope and duration.

  4. 04

Run the block and keep the marked scripts

Weekly one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with written work set and marked between sessions. Keep every marked script in one folder. That folder is the evidence a head of science responds to in a set or tier conversation, and it is also how you judge whether the spend is working.

  5. 05

Review at the block's end, then decide again

At the agreed end point, compare the marked work from week one against the most recent script and decide whether to continue, change focus or stop. Deciding again is the point. An open-ended monthly commitment removes the only moment at which you can see what you bought.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The numbers come with sources

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the provider or index that published it, with the month stated. None of them is an IB Gram price list. That is the opposite of the pattern in this search, where the highest-ranking pages publish no price at all or quote in a currency UAE families do not use.

Costed by component, not by subject

A quote built on which 0610 papers your child actually sits is smaller and more accurate than one built on the word biology. An Extended candidate with a theory-paper problem needs different hours from a Core candidate with a recall problem, and paying for the wrong ones is the most common waste in this market.

The delivery model is stated before you book

Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi; home visiting is an India-only service. Discovering a delivery model after payment is the complaint parents raise most often about tutoring agencies here, and it is avoidable by saying so first.

The permit position is checkable

We set out what the MoHRE private tuition work permit is, that it is granted free of charge for two years, which categories are eligible, and how to ask to see one. A regulator's name is not a quality badge and we do not use it as one; what we offer is the information you need to verify a claim yourself.

The honesty boundary is explicit

A tutor teaches, reviews and gives feedback on a student's own work. We do not produce practical write-ups or assessed work, and we do not distribute Cambridge syllabus documents or mark schemes. In a market where completed coursework is openly sold, saying where the line sits is a practical safeguard for your child.

No guarantees, no invented statistics

No grade promise, no percentage claim without its sample and method, no self-awarded rating. What we will put in writing is the hour count, the rate, what is included, and what the marked evidence shows at the end of the block. That is the only kind of commitment a tutor can actually honour.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

How much does a Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 tutor cost per hour in Abu Dhabi?+

Published UAE rates for qualified one-to-one science tuition run from roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour online, rising to roughly AED 200 to AED 450 and above for specialist exam-year work. Those are providers' own published figures as at October 2026, not an IB Gram price list. In-home rates sit higher, between roughly AED 180 and AED 500, because travel is priced into the lesson whether or not the quote says so. For an accurate figure, send the statement of entry showing which 0610 components your child sits, a recent marked script and the school report, then ask for the rate and hour count in writing.

Why do two Abu Dhabi tutors quote AED 180 and AED 400 for the same 0610 lesson?+

Seven things usually explain the gap, and both quotes can be fair. Subject depth, whether the entry is Core or Extended, which practical component the school entered, how close the series is, session length, travel, and the local scarcity of permitted Biology specialists in this emirate. Ask about each one and the quotes become comparable. Then ask the question nobody prices: how many of your child's written answers come back marked each week. A cheaper tutor who marks three answers weekly is usually better value than an expensive one who marks none, and the difference shows on a mock script.

Which 0610 papers will my child actually sit, and does that change the price?+

It changes it significantly. Core candidates sit a multiple-choice paper and a theory paper; Extended candidates sit the extended versions of both. All candidates add a practical component, either the practical test or the alternative to practical, decided by the centre. The multiple-choice paper responds to recall drilling, the cheapest effective hour available. The theory paper is where specialist rates earn their money, because marks there turn on precise command-term writing. Confirm the components on the statement of entry and check the current structure and weightings for your series on cambridgeinternational.org before planning hours.

Is the Paper 6 alternative to practical cheaper to prepare for than the practical test?+

Usually, yes, and it is often the best value block of hours in a 0610 plan. The alternative to practical asks written questions about method, variables, sources of error and improvements, and those question types are narrow, repeatable and highly coachable. The practical test needs apparatus technique, recording conventions and observational drawing, which takes more sessions to build. Either way the component carries about a fifth of the grade, so a plan that ignores it until February is leaving accessible marks on the table. The school decides which one your child sits, not you.

Does moving my child from Core to Extended 0610 cost more in tutoring?+

Yes, and the cost rises sharply with delay. An upward tier move means covering the supplementary content as well as the core, which is a purchase measured in terms rather than weeks. Done at the end of Year 10, before entries close, it is a manageable block. Attempted in February it means learning new content on top of full revision, which is both expensive and risky. No tutor can promise a school will move a set. What a tutor can do is produce the marked evidence a head of science responds to, and say honestly how many weeks that typically takes.

Does ADEK stop a school teacher from becoming our paid 0610 tutor?+

Press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules indicates that private and charter school staff in Abu Dhabi are barred from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and that the MoHRE private tuition work permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Verify the current wording against ADEK's own policy document. The practical consequence for a parent budgeting is that the convenient cheap option is not available in this emirate, which is part of why local specialist rates hold firm in the exam term.

Do 0610 tutoring rates in Abu Dhabi go up closer to the June series?+

Rates across the UAE market do move with demand, and demand concentrates in the weeks before a series. The scarcer resource is not tutors in general but evening slots in the 6pm to 9pm Gulf Standard Time window, which is when most Abu Dhabi families can actually sit down. Booking a block in the autumn term secures the quiet-season rate and the slot you want. Starting in February means paying more for less convenient timing, and spending those hours on triage rather than on the content and tier decisions that were available earlier.

Is a group science class at an Abu Dhabi centre better value for 0610?+

It depends on what is wrong. A group class is good at coverage: getting through topics, keeping pace, maintaining revision rhythm, and it is cheaper per student. It is poor at precision, because nobody is reading your child's written answers closely. If a mock shows gaps in topic knowledge, a group may be enough. If it shows technically correct answers scoring two marks out of four, the problem is written expression against command terms, and that only improves when someone marks the work. Ask any group provider how much individual written work is marked per student per week.

What costs should I budget for beyond the 0610 tutor's hourly rate?+

Examination entry, which sits inside the school's fee structure for a school candidate or runs through a registered examination centre with its own administration charge for a private candidate. Review of marking after results, which has a published cost, a short deadline, and must be requested through the school as the centre. A resit in a later series, which means another entry fee and usually more hours. Practice material, which your child's school can access legitimately through its Cambridge centre. Get entry, review and resit figures in writing from the school or centre, because they vary by centre and series.

Does a private tutor working with Abu Dhabi families need a MoHRE permit?+

Yes. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible categories include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so treat any specific figure quoted to you as unverified. The application route is on mohre.gov.ae.

Are lessons for 0610 delivered at our villa in Khalifa City or Al Raha?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi or anywhere else in the UAE; home visiting is a service offered only in India. Every UAE lesson runs one-to-one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. For a Khalifa City or Al Raha family that is usually the better outcome rather than a compromise, because it removes the travel premium from the rate, removes the geographic limit on which Biology specialist can teach your child, and holds the early-evening slot reliably instead of depending on a tutor crossing the emirate in traffic.

How many hours of 0610 support does a stuck grade usually take to move?+

Nobody can answer that honestly without seeing a marked script, and any provider who quotes a number before looking is selling rather than diagnosing. What is predictable is the shape. A recall problem responds to drilling and shows movement within a few weeks. A written-precision problem on the theory paper needs marked practice answers over a longer run, because the student has to learn what each command term is paying for. A tier gap is a content purchase measured in terms. Buy a short diagnostic block first and get the hours estimate in writing.

Can we pause 0610 sessions during Ramadan and resume afterwards?+

Yes, and planning for it beats discovering it. Revision rhythm across the UAE changes for several weeks, school days shorten and energy in the late afternoon drops, so sessions commonly move to a later evening slot after Iftar rather than stopping altogether. Where a family does prefer to pause, the block should be rescheduled rather than written off, and the hour count agreed in writing makes that straightforward. A revision plan that ignores these weeks will quietly lose a fortnight of work in the run-up to a June series.

Will a 0610 tutor send us Cambridge past papers and mark schemes?+

No, and a provider offering them as a selling point is distributing material they do not own. We reference the official Cambridge syllabus and specimen material and point you to cambridgeinternational.org to obtain it. Your child's school has legitimate access to practice material through its Cambridge centre, and the science department will usually share it on request at no cost. What a tutor adds is not access to papers but marking against the command terms, which is the part that actually moves a theory-paper grade.

Can a 0610 tutor help write up my child's practical work?+

A tutor teaches method, explains why a control variable matters, reviews your child's own draft and gives feedback on it. A tutor does not write it, complete it or produce a version to submit, and we will not do that at any price. There are providers in this market selling finished assessed work, one at a published AED 3,750, and a family buying that has bought an academic-malpractice exposure rather than a grade. The marks come from understanding method well enough to write about an unfamiliar experiment under time, which cannot be bought ready-made.

What happens if no Cambridge 0610 Biology specialist is free when we enquire?+

We say so instead of substituting quietly. Demand for Biology specialists in the Gulf Standard Time evening window peaks between January and April, and in those weeks the honest answer is sometimes a wait of a few days or a different slot. Where that happens you are told the wait, offered the nearest available alternative and told plainly what that alternative does and does not cover, before anything is paid. Being told about a coverage limit before booking is the point; no competitor page found in this market discloses one at all.

Get the number, then decide

You came here for a price, so take the price with you: roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour for qualified online science tuition in this market, rising towards AED 450 and above for specialist exam-year work, with in-home rates higher because travel is in them. What turns that band into your number is which 0610 components your child sits, whether the entry is Core or Extended, and how many weeks remain before the series. Send the statement of entry, a marked script and the school report, take the trial session, read the written summary, and agree the hours in writing. If the answer is that you do not need a tutor yet, we will tell you that too.
