Cambridge IGCSE Physical Science 0652 Tutor in Abu Dhabi

A Cambridge IGCSE Physical Science 0652 tutor in Abu Dhabi has to teach two sciences at once: the chemistry half and the physics half sit behind one single grade. Sessions run one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time after the school run, and every week ends with a marked question set so you can see which half is moving and which is standing still. A trial lesson comes first.

  • Every session ends with a marked, dated question set you keep
  • Chemistry half and physics half tracked as separate mark columns
  • Core and Extended routes taught to their own grade ceilings
  • Paper 6 apparatus and data-handling drilled on screen share

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

0652 is two subjects reporting into one grade, which is why progress is hard to see

Cambridge IGCSE Physical Science 0652 puts chemistry and physics into a single qualification. A student sits one set of papers, receives one grade, and that grade averages two bodies of content that behave nothing like each other. Chemistry in 0652 rewards recall with precision: the test for sulfate, the colour of a precipitate, the correct ionic equation. Physics in 0652 rewards transferable method: rearrange, substitute, state the unit, check the magnitude. A student can be comfortable in one half and badly exposed in the other, and the school report will still read as a single science grade in the middle of the range.

That averaging is the practical problem an Abu Dhabi parent is usually trying to solve when they search for a Cambridge IGCSE Physical Science 0652 tutor in Abu Dhabi. The mock came back as a 5 or a C. Nobody in the house can say which half produced it. A general science tutor will revise everything at the same depth, use up twenty weeks, and the grade will move by roughly the amount the student would have moved anyway. The useful first step is not more teaching. It is a split diagnostic that produces two numbers instead of one.

This page is built around that evidence. Every claim a tutor makes about a 0652 student should be traceable to a marked script with a date on it. In the first week your child sits a short Core or Extended question set drawn from past Cambridge material, taken under timed conditions on camera, and it is marked against the published mark scheme. The output is a table: chemistry topics with marks earned over marks available, physics topics the same. From that table a session plan writes itself, because the weakest three rows are the plan.

Delivery is online, one-to-one, over live video. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. For 0652 that constraint turns out to help. The specialist you want is someone who has marked hundreds of Paper 4 scripts and knows that candidates lose more marks to unit errors and significant figures than to not knowing the physics. There are not many of those people, and the chance that one lives a twenty-minute drive from Al Reem Island is low. Over video the pool is the whole roster rather than the neighbourhood.

The second thing online delivery gives a 0652 student is the screen itself. Paper 6, the alternative to practical, is a written paper about apparatus, method, sources of error and data tables. It is taught far better on a shared screen, where a tutor can put a real results table in front of the student, let them plot it, and then annotate the line of best fit live, than it is across a kitchen table with a textbook between two people. Paper 5 candidates still do their laboratory work at the school centre, and the tutor's job there is the method and the data handling that surrounds it.

At a glance

  • Week one produces two separate mark profiles: chemistry and physics
  • Core and Extended are taught to different ceilings, not the same content slower
  • Marked scripts are dated and kept, so grade movement is checkable
  • Paper 6 data handling drilled with live annotation on a shared screen
  • Sessions scheduled after the Abu Dhabi school run, Gulf Standard Time
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

0652 students in Abu Dhabi arrive from several places and leave for several more. These are the programme stages where Physical Science support actually changes an outcome, and what the work looks like at each one.

Y9Ages 13-14 · Year 9

Lower Secondary into the IGCSE option block

The year the science route is chosen. A student heading for 0652 rather than separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics is usually either short of option slots or stronger in the humanities. The work at this stage is closing the arithmetic gap that will otherwise surface in Year 11: rearranging a formula with the unknown on the bottom, converting between grams and kilograms without a calculator, and reading a scale between two marked divisions.

Abu Dhabi schools licensed by ADEK run option evenings in the spring term, and the Physical Science route is often presented as the lighter choice. It is lighter in content and not in method, so a Year 9 student who cannot yet handle standard form should be given that work before the option is locked rather than after.

Y10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

IGCSE Year 10 — the first half of the syllabus

Teaching order varies by school, but most Abu Dhabi centres cover the particulate model, atoms and bonding, electricity and the basics of energy during Year 10. This is the cheapest year to fix anything, because a topic revisited eight months later costs one session rather than four. Year 10 work is weekly, short and consolidating: one topic taught, one past-paper question set marked, one list of errors carried into the next week.

Year 10 in the emirate runs through two long holiday breaks and a Ramadan term with shortened days. Families who keep a single short session running across those weeks lose far less ground than families who stop in April and restart in September, and the marked-script record makes that visible rather than theoretical.

Y11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

IGCSE Year 11 — mocks, tier confirmation and the June series

The year the tier decision becomes final and the papers stop being abstract. Work shifts from learning content to producing marks under time pressure: full Paper 3 or Paper 4 attempts, marked strictly, with the lost marks sorted into categories — content not known, method known but botched, question misread, time ran out. Those four categories need four different responses, and treating them all as revision is why some Year 11s plateau.

Abu Dhabi centres sit the June series alongside the rest of the Cambridge world, with final entries submitted months earlier. If your child's tier is still unresolved after the January mock, that is a conversation for the school's exams officer, not something a tutor can change later in the year.

RETAKEAges 16-18 · post-Year 11

Resit and the November series

A 0652 grade that blocks a sixth-form or A-Level route can be re-sat in the November series. A resit is a different job from a first attempt: the content is mostly there, the marks are not, and the diagnostic work is narrower and more surgical. Six to ten weeks of targeted paper practice on the three weakest topic clusters usually does more than a full re-teach of the syllabus.

Resit candidates in Abu Dhabi may sit as private candidates at an approved Cambridge exam centre if their school does not enter them. Entry windows close well before the exam, so the first call is to a centre and the second is about teaching.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

0652 rarely travels alone. These are the other Cambridge IGCSE subjects Abu Dhabi students most often pair with Physical Science, with the part of each that interacts with the 0652 workload.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (0580)

Core and Extended

The single strongest predictor of a 0652 physics mark. Rearranging equations, standard form, significant figures and gradient from a graph appear in both papers. Students who are secure in Extended maths tend to lose 0652 marks on recall; students on Core maths tend to lose them on calculation.

Cambridge IGCSE Biology (0610)

Core and Extended

Often taken alongside 0652 to give a second science without the full triple load. Biology rewards sustained written recall and command-word discipline, so it competes for the same revision hours as 0652 chemistry rather than the physics half.

Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences (0654)

Double award

The alternative combined route, worth two IGCSEs and covering biology as well. Families sometimes discover after the option deadline that the school offers one and not the other. The content overlap with 0652 is large, the grading and paper count are not.

Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry (0620)

Core and Extended

The separate award. A 0652 student moving to 0620 inherits most of the particulate and bonding content and must add organic chemistry, moles in depth and a fuller qualitative analysis set. Useful to know if a school change is likely mid-course.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics (0625)

Core and Extended

The separate award on the physics side. The step up from 0652 is depth in waves, electromagnetism and nuclear physics rather than a new way of thinking. A student who enjoys the physics half of 0652 is often a candidate for A-Level Physics regardless of the combined grade.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics — Additional (0606)

Extended only

Taken by stronger mathematicians in some Abu Dhabi schools. It has no direct 0652 content, but students carrying it almost never lose Physical Science marks to algebra, which changes where tutoring hours should go.

Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language (0510)

Single tier

Relevant to 0652 because the theory papers are read before they are answered. Students who misread 'describe' as 'explain', or who lose the thread of a three-clause question stem, are losing science marks to reading speed.

Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science (0478)

Single tier

A common pairing in the Khalifa City and Al Raha schools. It shares with 0652 physics the habit of working through a defined method step by step, and students who do well at one often respond to the same style of session structure.

Cambridge IGCSE Geography (0460)

Single tier

Shares the data-response skill set with Paper 6: read the table, describe the trend, quote figures with units. Geography students usually bring that skill to 0652 already and need less time on the alternative-to-practical paper.

Cambridge IGCSE Economics (0455)

Single tier

Paired with 0652 by students heading for business or engineering management rather than pure science. Both reward precise use of a defined term, which is a transferable habit worth naming out loud in a session.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways 0652 support is usually structured for Abu Dhabi families. All of them are delivered one-to-one over live video, and all of them produce a marked script you keep.

Weekly one-to-one through the course

One 60 or 90-minute session a week across Year 10 and Year 11, running slightly ahead of the school's teaching order so the lesson in school becomes the second pass rather than the first. Each session closes with a timed question set, marked before the next one, and the per-topic record is updated so the trend is visible rather than remembered.

  • Topic taught, then a timed Cambridge-style question set
  • Marked against the published mark scheme, not impressions
  • Chemistry and physics marks logged in separate columns
  • Error list carried forward and re-tested three weeks later

Split diagnostic and repair block

A six to eight-week block for students whose mock grade is unexplained. Week one is two short diagnostics, one per half of the syllabus. The remaining weeks go to the three weakest topic clusters only, with a re-test of each at the end. This is the honest option when a family wants to know whether tutoring will help before committing to a year of it.

  • Two separate diagnostics, chemistry and physics
  • Written topic profile with marks over marks available
  • Three clusters targeted, everything else deliberately left alone
  • End-of-block re-test on the same question types

Paper-practice run-in before a series

Eight to twelve weeks before the June or November series, the work becomes almost entirely paper production. Full Paper 3 or Paper 4 attempts under time, plus Paper 6 data-handling sets, marked and returned with the lost marks sorted by cause. Content teaching only happens where a paper shows it is needed, which is a very different use of an hour from revision.

  • Full timed papers, marked strictly to the scheme
  • Lost marks sorted by cause, not by topic
  • Paper 6 apparatus, error and graph work drilled weekly
  • Command-word discipline checked on every script

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

What a Cambridge IGCSE Physical Science 0652 tutor is actually for

A 0652 tutor exists to separate two sciences that the grade has merged. The job is to produce a per-topic mark profile for the chemistry half and the physics half, teach to whichever is weaker, and show you the evidence each week. Lessons are one-to-one and delivered online over live video to Abu Dhabi families, with a trial lesson first.

That is a narrower description than most tutoring pages offer, and deliberately so. Physical Science is the syllabus where good general teaching produces the least movement, because the average of two scores hides which score is the problem. A student who is at 70 per cent in chemistry questions and 35 per cent in physics questions looks identical on a report card to a student who is at 52 and 53. The first student needs eight weeks of physics method. The second needs a different conversation entirely, probably about tier and about how much time the subject is getting at all.

In practice the opening fortnight looks like this. One short Core or Extended chemistry set, timed, camera on, marked to the published scheme. One short physics set the same way. The marks are written into a two-column table by topic. Then a plan that names three topic clusters and nothing else, with a re-test date already in it. If the diagnostic says the issue is reading the question rather than knowing the science, the plan says that instead, and the work becomes command words and question-stem decomposition.

What a tutor will not do is promise a grade. No tutor can see the paper, the boundaries or the day, and anyone offering you a number is selling something other than teaching. What a tutor can do is show you a dated script from week two and a dated script from week ten and let you read the difference yourself.

02

Inside 0652: six components, two routes, one grade

Cambridge IGCSE Physical Science is assessed by multiple choice, a theory paper and a practical component. A candidate sits three of the six components: a multiple-choice paper, a theory paper and either the practical test or the alternative to practical. Which multiple-choice and theory paper depends entirely on the tier the school has entered them for.

The practical requirement is the part Abu Dhabi parents ask about most, because it is the part that sounds incompatible with online tutoring. It is not. Paper 5 is laboratory work carried out at the registered exam centre, which is the school; no tutor of any kind sits in that room. Paper 6 is a written paper about practical work — identifying apparatus, spotting the controlled variable, finishing a results table, plotting and reading a graph, naming a source of error and saying how to reduce it. Paper 6 is a reasoning paper wearing a lab coat, and it is taught on a screen.

Weightings matter when you are deciding where an hour goes. The theory paper carries the largest single share of the grade, the multiple-choice paper a smaller one, and the practical component the rest. That means a student losing marks across the theory paper is losing them from the biggest pool, and a student who is strong in theory but careless in multiple choice is leaving a smaller but much cheaper set of marks on the table — multiple-choice marks are usually recoverable with technique rather than content.

Always confirm the component structure against the syllabus for your child's exam year. Cambridge revises syllabuses on a cycle, and the version a school is teaching to is the version on the Cambridge International site, not the one in a two-year-old revision guide.

Core or Extended: the decision that sets the ceiling

The tier decision is the highest-leverage conversation in the whole of 0652, and it is usually made in a school office in Year 10 without the family in the room. Core candidates sit the Core multiple-choice and theory papers and are assessed across the lower part of the grade range. Extended candidates sit the harder pair and are assessed across the upper part. A student entered for Core cannot reach the top grades however well they perform on the day. A student entered for Extended can, and can also fall further.

This is why an unexplained middling mock grade needs unpicking before the tier is confirmed rather than after. A Core-entered student scoring near the top of the Core range is a student whose ceiling, not whose ability, is the limiting factor. A borderline Extended student scoring poorly on the Extended theory paper may be losing most of their marks to the supplement content, which is a specific and teachable set of topics rather than a general weakness.

The maths load is the clearest practical difference between the two routes. Core questions tend to ask for one operation on a formula given in the question. Extended questions chain two or three steps, expect standard form, and expect a unit at the end. A student who is comfortable with Extended Mathematics 0580 rarely struggles with this; a student on Core maths who has been entered for Extended science almost always does, and the fix is algebra practice rather than more physics.

Only the school can change an entry, and only inside Cambridge's entry windows. A tutor's useful contribution is evidence: a marked Extended paper with a mark on it, handed to the family before the conversation with the school, is worth more than an opinion about potential.

04

Where 0652 marks actually go missing, half by half

  • Chemistry: colours and tests recalled approximately rather than exactly
  • Chemistry: equations unbalanced, charges or state symbols missing
  • Physics: correct formula, incorrect rearrangement, missing unit
  • Physics: gradient read from a point rather than a triangle
  • Both halves: command word ignored, so the wrong answer type is written

On the chemistry side, the losses are concentrated and predictable. Qualitative analysis is memorised loosely, so a flame colour or a precipitate colour is almost right. Ionic equations are written with the charges omitted or the state symbols missing. The particulate model is described in terms of what the student remembers of the diagram rather than in terms of energy and spacing. Mole calculations, where the syllabus asks for them, are attempted without first writing the balanced equation, which guarantees the ratio is wrong even when the arithmetic is fine.

On the physics side, the losses are almost all method. The formula is recalled correctly and then rearranged incorrectly. The substitution is right and the unit is left off, which costs a mark on a question worth four. Graph questions ask for a gradient and the student reads a single point instead of a triangle. Questions about energy transfer get answered with the word 'energy' repeated rather than named forms, and the mark scheme wants the names. None of this is a knowledge problem, which is why re-teaching the topic does nothing and drilling the method does a lot.

There is a third category that belongs to neither half: reading. 0652 theory questions are written in layered stems, and a candidate who answers the question they expected rather than the one printed loses marks they could already have earned. Command words are the diagnostic here. 'State' wants a fact and no reason. 'Describe' wants what happens. 'Explain' wants why. 'Suggest' invites a sensible answer not necessarily in the syllabus. Students who learn to underline the command word before writing recover marks in both halves at once.

A marked script sorts every lost mark into one of these buckets within about twenty minutes. That sorting is the part most revision skips, and it is the part that decides what the next eight sessions should contain.

05

Paper 6 and the practical marks you can still teach online

Parents reasonably assume that a practical component rules out a tutor who is not in the room. For the alternative to practical it is the reverse. Paper 6 asks a candidate to look at a described experiment and reason about it: which variable was controlled, why the readings were repeated, what the anomalous point suggests, how the method could be improved. Every one of those is a thinking task performed on paper, and a shared screen is a better surface for it than a table, because the tutor and the student are looking at the same results table at the same time and the annotations are visible to both.

The highest-yield drill is the data table. Candidates lose marks for inconsistent decimal places, for headings without units, for a column order that does not follow the method, and for calculating a mean before checking for an outlier. These are habits, and habits are built by repetition with immediate correction, which is exactly what a 90-minute online session with live marking provides.

Graph work is the second cluster. A sensible scale that uses most of the grid, points plotted to the right precision, a line of best fit that is a line rather than a join-the-dots, and a gradient taken from a large triangle with the working shown. Students who can do these four things reliably pick up marks on almost every data question in the paper, including the ones about topics they found difficult in theory.

For candidates sitting the practical test rather than the alternative, the tutoring job is the surrounding method: planning a fair test, recording to the precision of the instrument, and writing conclusions that quote the data. The laboratory work itself happens at the school, under the centre's supervision, and no tutor is part of it.

06

The evidence trail: what you receive, week by week

The reason this page talks about marked scripts rather than about enthusiasm is that a 0652 grade moves slowly and invisibly unless somebody is counting. A parent who is paying by the hour deserves to see the count. Below is the shape of a twelve-week block for a Year 11 Extended candidate who arrived with an unexplained grade in the middle of the range.

The pattern is deliberate. Diagnostics first, so the plan is built on data. Repair work in the middle, on three clusters only, with the rest of the syllabus explicitly left alone. Re-testing of the same question types at the end, because a topic that was repaired and never re-tested has not been shown to be repaired. The final weeks go to full papers under time, which tests something different again: stamina and allocation.

You are not asked to take any of this on trust. Each marked script carries a date, a mark, the mark scheme reference and a one-line cause for every lost mark. Put week two and week twelve side by side and the trend is either there or it is not. If it is not, that is a reason to change tutor or change approach, and a family should have the evidence to make that call rather than a feeling at the end of a term.

Progress on Physical Science 0652 past paper marking is rarely linear, and the record usually shows one half moving before the other. That is normal and worth knowing in advance, because a flat chemistry column in week six does not mean the block is failing when the physics column has moved eleven marks.

The Cambridge calendar, counted backwards from the exam

Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. That single sentence resolves most of the confusion in a UAE household, because the deadlines that actually constrain a family sit months before the paper itself.

Cambridge publishes key dates for every series, and the honest way to read them is backwards from the paper itself. In the UAE a Physical Science candidate sits either the June series or the November series; the February and March sitting Cambridge administers is offered to India only, so it is not a window an Abu Dhabi student can enter. Counting back from June, the centre's final entry deadline falls months earlier in the spring, and the exact day is printed on the statement of entry your school issues rather than on any tutoring site. Forecast grades go in weeks before the first paper, results are released on Cambridge International Direct in August, and certificates follow some weeks after that. The November series runs the same shape compressed into the autumn, with results reaching candidates in January, which is why it works as a resit route rather than a first attempt. Either way the administrative clock starts long before the revision does, so a 0652 student who only starts thinking about entries in April has already missed the June deadline and is really choosing November.

There is a logistical trap worth knowing about. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong zone's timetable. A UAE centre and a UK centre are not necessarily in the same zone. Take the timetable from your child's own exams officer rather than from a revision forum.

For planning purposes, work backwards. A November series 0652 retake means an entry conversation with a centre in the summer, a diagnostic in September, and paper production through October. A June first attempt means the tier is settled by the January mock, repair work in the spring term, and full timed papers from the Easter break onwards. Confirm every date on cambridgeinternational.org, since series dates and deadlines are revised.

ADEK, the mandatory subjects, and what 0652 counts towards

In Abu Dhabi the Department of Education and Knowledge supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate, which is the equivalent role to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority in Dubai, the Sharjah Private Education Authority in Sharjah, the Department of Knowledge in Ras Al Khaimah, and the federal Ministry of Education in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. That map matters for a practical reason: inspection reports, curriculum approval and the rules a school must follow all come from the emirate's own authority, so an Abu Dhabi parent reading Dubai guidance is reading the wrong document.

Privately, the federal position is that private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. This is the rule behind every emirate's mandatory-subject requirement, and it is why a 0652 candidate is also carrying Arabic and, where applicable, Islamic Education and Social Studies alongside their Cambridge options. Those subjects take real timetable space, and a revision plan that ignores them is a plan the student cannot actually follow.

On university equivalency, the Ministry of Education's British-track requirement is published and specific: students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. Whether a combined-science award such as 0652 is counted as one subject or two in that tally is a question for the attestation authority rather than for a tutor, and it is worth asking before the option block is chosen rather than in Year 13.

IB Gram holds no accreditation, licence or partnership from ADEK, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge International or any UAE authority. It is a tutor-matching platform. Equivalency and attestation are processes families complete through the official channels, and nobody should tell you that tutoring is required for either of them.

Where we tutor

Where 0652 students in Abu Dhabi actually log in from

Delivery is online, so the area matters for one reason: when a session can realistically start. These are the Abu Dhabi communities 0652 families book from, and what the school run does to the evening.

Al Reem Island

Dense towers, short school runs, and a cluster of British-curriculum students. Sessions here routinely start at 16:00 Gulf Standard Time because nobody is sitting on Mussafah Road. The constraint is usually a sibling's activity schedule rather than traffic.

Saadiyat Island

Villa and low-rise community with a long commute off the island for some schools. A 17:00 start is realistic; a 16:00 one often is not. Saadiyat Island IGCSE science tuition tends to settle into a fixed weekday slot plus a longer weekend paper session.

Khalifa City

The largest single source of IGCSE science enquiries in the emirate, and a long way from the island schools. Families here often prefer two shorter weekday sessions to one long one, because an 18:00 start after a 40-minute drive produces very little useful work.

Al Raha and Al Raha Gardens

Low-rise family housing next to several large private schools, so the commute is short and the evening starts early. This is the corridor where an IGCSE chemistry and physics tutor can reliably hold a 16:30 slot through the whole of Year 11.

Yas Island

Newer schools, newer cohorts, and a lot of students who joined the IGCSE course mid-stream from another curriculum. Mid-course joiners are the group most likely to have a hole in the Year 10 content that nobody has found yet.

Al Bateen and Al Mushrif

Established mainland neighbourhoods close to some of the oldest British-curriculum schools in the emirate. Students here are often in large, settled cohorts where the school's own teaching order is predictable and a tutor can run slightly ahead of it.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Al Reef

Spread-out communities where the drive to a tuition centre can take longer than a session. Online delivery removes that entirely, which is the main reason enquiries from here are growing faster than from the island.

Island and Saadiyat schools

Long-established British-curriculum centres on and near the island, several of which enter candidates for combined science routes alongside the separate awards. Teaching order and mock timing differ between them, which matters when a tutor is pacing work against a school's own schedule.

Three facts get a useful match: the school, whether your child is entered for Core or Extended, and the most recent 0652 mark with the paper it came from. If the tier is still undecided, say so — that changes which diagnostic is sent first and what the trial lesson is spent on.

  2. 02

Trial lesson, free, one per student

One full session at no charge, with no card details taken and no obligation afterwards. It is used as a working lesson rather than a sales call: the tutor teaches one topic and sets a short timed question set so that there is already a marked script before any money changes hands.

  3. 03

Split diagnostic in the first fortnight

Two short timed sets, one chemistry and one physics, taken on camera and marked against the published Cambridge mark scheme. The output is a two-column topic profile. If the profile shows the problem is reading and command words rather than content, the plan changes accordingly.

  4. 04

A plan naming three clusters and a re-test date

Three weak topic clusters, the question types to be drilled, and the date each will be re-tested. Everything outside those clusters is left alone on purpose. A plan that covers the whole syllabus in eight weeks is not a plan, it is a reading list.

  5. 05

    Weekly marked work you keep

Every session produces a dated script with a mark, the mark-scheme reference and a one-line cause for each lost mark. Those scripts are the record. If the trend is flat after six weeks, that is a signal to change something, and you will be able to see it rather than be told it.

  6. 06

Change the tutor if the evidence says so

A match that is not producing movement should end. Tell us and the subject specialist changes, with the topic profile and the marked scripts handed over so the new tutor starts from the record rather than from week one again.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Two columns, not one grade

Chemistry and physics marks are tracked separately from the first fortnight, because a single Physical Science grade cannot tell you which half needs the hours. Most of the wasted tutoring money in this subject is spent teaching the half that was already working.

Specialists reachable over video

The tutor who has marked many Extended theory scripts is the tutor you want, and the odds of that person living near Khalifa City are low. Online delivery makes the roster the pool instead of the postcode, which is the entire argument for this format in a niche syllabus.

Marking to the scheme, not to impressions

Work is marked against the published Cambridge mark scheme with the reference written on the script. That is what makes a before-and-after comparison meaningful, and it is also how a student learns what the examiner is actually paying for.

The student's own work stays their own

A tutor teaches, questions, reviews and gives feedback. A tutor does not supply finished answers for work that must be the candidate's own. Saying so plainly matters in a market where some sites sell completed assessed work outright.

Honest about what is not covered

Laboratory sessions for the practical test happen at the school centre and no tutor attends them. If no specialist is free for a niche route at the time you need, you will be told that rather than matched with whoever is available.

Sessions timed to the Abu Dhabi evening

Slots are set in Gulf Standard Time around the school run and around Ramadan timings, including post-Iftar sessions when families ask for them. A session that starts when a tired student has just finished a 40-minute drive is a session half wasted.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

What is Cambridge IGCSE Physical Science 0652 and how is it different from Co-ordinated Sciences?+

0652 Physical Science combines chemistry and physics into a single IGCSE award. Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 covers biology as well and is a double award worth two IGCSEs. Both are alternatives to taking the three separate sciences. The practical consequence for a family is the grade count on the certificate and the amount of content carried: 0652 is one grade from two sciences, which is lighter on content than triple science but concentrates two very different skill sets behind one number. Check which route your child's school actually enters candidates for, because schools rarely offer both.

My child's 0652 mock came back as a middling grade and nobody can say why. What is the first step?+

Split the grade. A single Physical Science mark averages a chemistry score and a physics score that can be twenty marks apart, and until they are separated any revision plan is guesswork. The first fortnight should be two short timed question sets, one per half, taken under exam conditions and marked against the published mark scheme, producing a topic-by-topic table of marks earned over marks available. The weakest three rows become the plan. That diagnostic takes two sessions and usually changes what the next two months contain.

Can my child's practical marks be improved if the tutor is not in the laboratory?+

For the alternative-to-practical paper, yes, and the screen helps. That paper asks the candidate to reason about a described experiment: identify the controlled variable, finish a results table, choose a sensible graph scale, read a gradient from a triangle, name a source of error and say how to reduce it. All of that is paper-based reasoning that a shared screen suits well, with live annotation of the same table both people are looking at. For the practical test itself, the laboratory work happens at the school exam centre and no tutor of any kind is present.

How do I find out whether my child is entered for Core or Extended 0652?+

Ask the school's exams officer or head of science directly, and ask for it in writing. The tier sets the grade ceiling and determines which papers your child sits, so it changes what tutoring should target. Core candidates are assessed across the lower part of the grade range and cannot reach the top grades however well they perform. Extended candidates can, and can also lose more. If the entry is still open, a marked Extended paper with a real mark on it is far more useful in that conversation than an opinion about potential.

Is online tutoring a reasonable format for a science subject like 0652?+

For this syllabus it is a good fit rather than a compromise. The marks in 0652 are won through method: rearranging formulae, writing balanced equations with state symbols, handling units, plotting data and reading gradients. All of that is done on paper or on screen, and screen sharing lets a tutor annotate the student's own working in real time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE, since home visits are a service offered only in India, so every Abu Dhabi session runs one-to-one over live video.

What does the market charge for IGCSE science tutoring in Abu Dhabi?+

Published market rates across the UAE run roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour for budget or university-student online tutoring, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, AED 180 to 500 for an in-home visit once travel is priced in, and AED 200 to 450 or more for an IGCSE or A-Level specialist, with premium named tutors quoted above that. Those are figures providers publish about themselves, gathered in October 2026, not IB Gram's price list. Ask about our own model on the trial lesson.

How many sessions a week does a Year 11 Physical Science candidate usually need?+

One session a week is the normal starting point through Year 10 and most of Year 11, moving to two in the final run-in if the paper marks say the work is not consolidating fast enough. More than two rarely helps, because the limiting factor is usually how much independent question practice a student does between sessions rather than how much teaching they receive. A good tutor reduces frequency when the marked scripts show the student can now self-correct, and says so rather than keeping the slot.

We are in Khalifa City and the drive home takes 40 minutes. When can sessions realistically start?+

For most Khalifa City and Al Reef families, a 17:00 or 17:30 start in Gulf Standard Time works better than a 16:00 one, and two shorter weekday sessions often produce more than one long evening block. Families on Al Reem Island or in the Al Raha corridor can usually hold a 16:00 or 16:30 slot because the school run is shorter. Because delivery is online, the drive to a tuition centre disappears from the calculation entirely, which is the main reason mainland enquiries have grown fastest.

Does a 0652 grade count towards UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

The published British-track requirement is five accredited subjects at GCSE or IGCSE with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one Advanced Level subject at E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade, and Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. Whether a combined award is treated as one subject or two in that count is a question for the Ministry or the attestation authority, and the answer should be obtained in writing before the Year 9 option block is finalised rather than afterwards.

Can a tutor help with revision for the Arabic and Islamic Education my child also has to take?+

Those subjects sit alongside the Cambridge options because private schools must cover Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies regardless of the international curriculum they are licensed to teach. They take real timetable space and real revision time. Support for them is a separate stream from 0652 work, with its own tutors, and the mandatory-subject content itself is prescribed, so any material used has to be the school's. The honest point for planning is simply that a Year 11 revision timetable has to include them.

Does the tutor need a private tuition work permit in the UAE?+

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. The official route is the MoHRE service 'Issuance of a New Work Permit — Private Tutor Licensing', applied for through the ministry's app, website or e-services. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws.

Can my child's own science teacher at school tutor them privately instead?+

In Abu Dhabi, no. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the code of conduct attached to the MoHRE private tuition permit also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. Teachers tutoring outside school hours need that permit. Verify the current wording against ADEK's own policy document before relying on it, and treat any offer of your child's own classroom teacher privately as a problem rather than a perk.

What can a tutor legitimately do with practical write-ups and assessed work?+

A tutor teaches the method, asks questions about the reasoning, reviews what the student has produced and gives feedback on it. Everything that is assessed has to be the candidate's own. That means no supplied answers, no finished write-ups and no editing a piece until it is no longer the student's work. Some sites in this market sell completed assessed work outright; that is an academic-integrity breach that puts the student's qualification at risk, and it is worth asking any prospective tutor where they draw the line.

Can we see proof that the tutoring is working before committing to a full year?+

That is what the marked-script record is for. Week two produces a dated diagnostic with a mark on it; week ten produces a comparable set of question types with another mark. Put them side by side and the movement is either visible or it is not. A six to eight-week diagnostic and repair block exists precisely so a family can test the approach before buying a year of it, and a flat trend after that block is a reason to change tutor or change approach rather than to extend it.

My child needs to retake 0652 in the November series. Is there enough time?+

Usually, because a retake is a narrower job than a first attempt. The content is largely known and the marks are not, so the work is diagnostic, then surgical repair of the two or three weakest topic clusters, then full timed papers. Six to ten weeks is a realistic block. The constraint is administrative rather than academic: entries close well before the exam, so the first call is to the school or to a Cambridge exam centre that accepts private candidates, and the second is about teaching.

What happens if no 0652 specialist is available when we need one?+

You get told. Physical Science is a narrower roster than Mathematics or Biology, and there are weeks in the run-up to a series when the specialists who mark Extended theory scripts are fully booked. The alternatives are a waiting slot, a different session time, or a tutor whose strength is one half of the syllabus rather than both, which can be the right answer when the diagnostic has already shown the problem sits in one half. What will not happen is a match made quietly with whoever happens to be free.

Start with a diagnostic, not a promise

If your child's Physical Science grade is sitting in the middle of the range and nobody can explain why, the first useful hour is not a lesson. It is a split diagnostic that produces two numbers and a short list of topics. Tell us the school, the tier and the last mark, take the trial lesson, and read the marked script yourself before deciding anything. Sessions run one-to-one over live video to Abu Dhabi, timed to Gulf Standard Time around your school run. If the evidence after six weeks says the approach is not working, change it — you will have the scripts to see that for yourself.
