Cambridge IGCSE Coordinated Sciences 0654 Tutor in Abu Dhabi

Quotes for a Cambridge IGCSE Coordinated Sciences 0654 tutor in Abu Dhabi routinely differ by a factor of four for what sounds like the same hour. This page shows the published market bands in AED, what each band actually contains, and which parts of the double award give back the most marks for the money. Lessons are one to one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, and the first one is free, with no card required.

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

Why 0654 quotes in this emirate differ by a factor of four

Ask four providers in Abu Dhabi what they charge to support a Co-ordinated Sciences candidate and you will be given four numbers between roughly AED 150 and AED 650 an hour, with no explanation of what separates them. The spread is real and it is not arbitrary. It reflects whether one tutor covers all three strands or only one, whether written work is marked between sessions, whether the preparation includes the practical component, whether the student is entered at Core or Extended, and whether the hour includes a drive across the city. None of that appears on a pricing page.

Published figures do exist, which is unusual in this market. One provider lists online tutoring from AED 45 to 65 an hour and another from AED 33 to 52; a third lists IGCSE from AED 150 and International Baccalaureate work from AED 200; a UK agency publishes AED 270; a premium service publishes AED 650. A 2026 Dubai cost survey puts in-home one-to-one visits between AED 180 and 350, with independent home tutors asking AED 200 to 500. Monthly packages appear at around AED 799 for eight online sessions and between AED 1,599 and 1,799 for four in-home sessions of two hours.

Those are other people's numbers and they are quoted here with their source, because a tutoring page that publishes a band without saying who charges it is publishing an opinion. They are also market context rather than our price list: IB Gram starts with a free lesson and a plan, and the figure follows from the plan. What the bands are genuinely useful for is calibration. A quote well below AED 150 an hour almost certainly excludes marking. A quote at the top of the range should come with something specific attached to it.

The double award complicates the arithmetic in one particular way. Because 0654 produces two grades from content across biology, chemistry and physics, a tutor is either covering three disciplines or being supplemented by somebody else. Three separate tutors at a mid-band rate is a considerably larger monthly figure than one tutor who can carry all three at the depth the double award requires, and for most families on this page that single-tutor arrangement is both cheaper and better co-ordinated. Where a single strand has collapsed, a specialist for that strand alone can be the cheaper purchase.

There is an Abu Dhabi dimension to the travel question that Dubai pages cannot describe. Journeys here run between the island, the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor, Saadiyat and Yas, and mainland communities such as Al Shamkha and Al Rahba, and at five in the afternoon a crossing can absorb a substantial part of an hour. In an in-home booking that time is bought at the teaching rate. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India, so the comparison below exists because families are quoted both and deserve the arithmetic set out.

At a glance

  • Published UAE hourly rates run from about AED 33 to AED 650, each with a source
  • The single biggest hidden variable is whether marking is included
  • Core and Extended candidates need different numbers of hours
  • One tutor across three strands is usually cheaper than three specialists
  • In-home rates include travel, bought at the teaching rate
  • A plan should be costed per mark recovered, not per hour purchased

The cost of a 0654 plan depends partly on what comes after it, because a student intending to continue a science needs different preparation from one certificating and stopping. These are the routes that change the arithmetic.

Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences

The double award covering biology, chemistry and physics in one course and producing two grades. Candidates sit a multiple-choice paper, a theory paper at Core or Extended tier, and a practical component, with the exact structure and weightings set out in the current Cambridge syllabus. Content depth sits between the single award and separate sciences.

Across Abu Dhabi this route is widely used for whole year groups. For costing purposes the important consequence is that one plan has to cover three disciplines, so the hourly rate matters less than whether the tutor can carry all three and how the hours are divided between them.

Separate Cambridge biology, chemistry and physics

Three distinct IGCSEs with three grades and three practical components, going further than the double award in each discipline. Supporting all three separately at specialist rates is the most expensive arrangement available in this market, which is why families on this route usually buy support for one science rather than three.

The larger British-curriculum departments in the emirate offer this route. Where a family is paying for separate-science support, the published specialist band of roughly AED 200 to 450 an hour applies per subject, and the monthly figure rises accordingly.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

Cambridge International AS and A Level sciences

The sixth-form continuation in a chosen science, with heavier mathematics, formal practical assessment and considerably more explanation expected in each answer. Published rates for Advanced Level support sit at the specialist end of the market, and the hours required per term are usually higher than at IGCSE.

Entry requirements are set by each Abu Dhabi sixth form. For a double award candidate this is the question that most affects the value of Year 11 spending, because whether a science can be continued on two coordinated grades is decided by the school rather than by the board.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme sciences

Standard and Higher Level sciences with experimental work across both years and an internal assessment that is the student's own from the first draft to the last. Published rates for Diploma support are generally quoted above IGCSE rates by the same providers, with one listing International Baccalaureate work from AED 200 against IGCSE from AED 150.

The emirate has a large IB sector, and families often move a child from a Cambridge Year 11 into a Diploma Year 12. Budgeting for that transition is more useful than budgeting for extra Year 11 hours, because the first Diploma term is where most families find they need support.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Below is the 0654 content organised the way a budget needs it, rather than the way a syllabus lists it. Each entry carries a note on how expensive that area typically is to repair, because that is what decides where a limited number of sessions should go.

Quantitative chemistry and reacting masses

Extended mainly

The most expensive block to repair on the double award, because fluency cannot be compressed. A student who cannot take a ratio from a balanced equation needs spaced work across weeks rather than an intensive weekend, and no rate buys a shortcut through it.

Electricity and circuits

Core and Extended

The largest block of physics marks and moderately expensive to fix, since circuit reading improves steadily rather than suddenly. Most students have already revised it heavily, so losses here are usually arithmetic and circuit interpretation rather than missing content.

Physics relationships and unit handling

Core and Extended

Among the cheapest repairs available. Writing units at every line rather than at the end removes a whole category of clean factor errors, and it is a habit installed in one or two sessions that then pays across both papers.

Thermal physics and transfer

Core and Extended

Cheap to improve and routinely neglected, because it is taught early and revised last. Nearly every mark is awarded for a particle-level mechanism, which is a form of words that can be taught and tested inside a single session.

Biology definitions and named structures

Core and Extended

The cheapest marks in the award. Definitions carry required clauses, and diagram labels reward knowing where a structure sits. Both respond to written practice against the scheme wording, and both are usually being lost by students who understand the biology perfectly well.

Genetic crosses and inheritance

Core and Extended

Inexpensive once the written structure is shown: parental genotypes stated, gametes shown, the cross completed, the ratio read off with phenotypes named. Students who predict the outcome and write only the ratio lose most of the question for presentational reasons.

Group trends and the Periodic Table

Core and Extended

Exact recall with a required explanation attached to each trend. Because the explanation structures repeat, two sentence shapes cover most of the group chemistry examined, which makes this one of the highest returns per session in the whole course.

Acids, bases, salts and preparation methods

Core and Extended

Moderately cheap. The salt preparation sequence is marked step by step, and the steps students skip are excess and filtration, both of which are learnable in one session and tested cold the following week.

Metals, extraction and the environment

Core and Extended

Almost entirely recall, which makes it inexpensive and a sensible use of weeks when the school day is shortened. Extraction questions are marked on named conditions, substances and equations rather than on reasoning.

Description and explanation answers

Core and Extended

The best value work in the award, because it improves all three strands at once. Command words set the type of each line, and answers built to the number of marks on offer collect credit that fluent paragraphs do not.

The practical component

Core and Extended

Cheap relative to its share of the grade. Tabulation with units in the heading, consistent precision, plotting, lines of best fit, anomalies and specific error reasoning are conventions rather than content, and they can be taught in one or two sessions.

Multiple-choice technique

Core and Extended

Often free. Losses here are usually pace and misreading rather than knowledge, and a single session on how to work through the paper, with the arithmetic done on paper rather than mentally, recovers marks at no further cost.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements, all one to one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, at three different total costs. The cheapest is not the lowest hourly rate; it is the one that buys the fewest hours to recover the marks that are actually missing.

A short targeted block

Four to six sessions aimed at the cheapest recoverable marks identified from a mark count: biology definitions, physics units, thermal mechanisms, group trends and the practical conventions. This is the lowest total spend of any arrangement here and it is frequently the one we recommend for a family with a limited budget.

  • Costed as a block, with the number of sessions stated up front
  • Targets the areas with the highest marks returned per hour
  • Written work marked between sessions and included in the figure
  • No requirement to continue when the block ends

Weekly support across the examination year

A fixed weekly hour with marked work between sessions, running from the autumn through to the series. The published mid-market monthly estimates for a weekly hour run from about AED 240 to 600 at the budget end and AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, with examination-year specialist support quoted from AED 1,000 to over 2,000.

  • One protected slot in Gulf Standard Time each week
  • Marked work included rather than charged separately
  • Pauses available for assessment weeks, travel and Ramadan
  • Reviewed against a comparable paper every few weeks

Single-strand specialist support

Where one of the three disciplines has collapsed and the other two are sound, buying a specialist for that strand alone is usually the cheaper purchase than general science support. Published specialist rates sit higher per hour, and the total is lower because far fewer hours are needed.

  • One discipline only, chosen from the mark count
  • Higher hourly rate, smaller total number of hours
  • Ends when a comparable paper shows the strand has moved
  • Avoids paying for coverage the student does not need

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

What 0654 support costs in Abu Dhabi, by format

The table sets out the published bands with the provider that published each one, stated as at October 2026. Read it as a map of the market rather than as our price list. Abu Dhabi tracks Dubai closely for online teaching, because the pool of tutors who can carry all three strands of the double award is national rather than local, and a tutor working over video is not constrained by which emirate a family lives in.

The column that matters most is the last one. Two quotes at the same hourly figure can contain very different amounts of work: one hour of live teaching, or one hour plus a script marked against the published scheme and a record of which strands have been tested. The second is closer to ninety minutes of work and it is the thing that changes a grade. Providers at the bottom of the published range are, in our experience of the market, not doing it.

The in-home rows deserve care. The published range of roughly AED 180 to 500 for an in-home visit includes the tutor's travel, and the survey figures do not break out how much of the booking that represents. In a city where an afternoon crossing can take a substantial part of an hour, the effective teaching rate inside an in-home booking is higher than the headline number suggests. The section below works that arithmetic out for Abu Dhabi journeys specifically.

A final note on packages. Monthly offers in this market appear at around AED 799 for eight online sessions and between AED 1,599 and 1,799 for four in-home sessions of two hours each. Those are reasonable shapes, and the question to ask is what happens to unused sessions, what notice is needed to pause, and whether marking is inside the figure or billed on top.

Dirhams per mark: the comparison nobody offers you

An hourly rate is the wrong unit for this decision. What a family is buying is marks, and marks come back at wildly different costs depending on where they are currently being lost. A session spent installing the habit of writing units at every line can recover a clean block of physics marks for the price of one hour. A session spent building mole fluency recovers almost nothing in that hour and needs six more behind it before it shows.

That is why the first session on this page counts the losses by strand and by type before any plan is priced. Once you can see that four fifths of the losses are in biology definitions, physics units and thermal mechanisms, the sensible purchase is obvious and small. Where the losses are genuinely in quantitative chemistry across both papers, the purchase is larger and slower, and we would rather say so at the start than discover it in April.

The table below gives indicative costs per mark using the published specialist band as the hourly figure. The mark estimates are deliberately described as typical rather than guaranteed, because no tutor can promise a specific number of marks on a timed paper. What the table does reliably is rank the areas, and the ranking is stable across students even when the absolute numbers are not.

Used properly, this reorders a revision plan. Most families arrive wanting to start with the hardest topic, because that is what causes the most distress at home. The arithmetic says start with the cheapest marks, bank them, and then decide whether the expensive block is worth the remaining budget. That is a less satisfying conversation and a considerably better use of money.

03

The five questions that explain a price difference

  • Ask whether one tutor covers all three strands or only one
  • Ask whether marked work between sessions is inside the rate
  • Expect to be asked which tier your child is entered for
  • Ask whether the practical component is in the plan

When two Abu Dhabi quotes differ sharply, the gap is almost always explained by five things, and none of them is quality in the abstract. The first is strand coverage: is this one tutor across biology, chemistry and physics, or one discipline with the other two uncovered. The second is marking: does written work come back marked against the published scheme between sessions, or is the hour the entire product. Those two account for most of the spread on their own.

The third is the tier. An Extended candidate has more content to cover than a Core candidate and will need more hours for the same grade movement, so a quote that does not ask which tier your child is entered for has not been costed against anything. The fourth is the practical component, which carries a meaningful share of the grade and is often left out of a plan entirely because it is assumed to require a laboratory. The conventions do not.

The fifth is scarcity, and it is the one that moves the top of the band. A tutor who can carry all three strands of the double award at Extended depth and mark them properly is not common, and in the weeks before a series the demand for that person peaks at once across the whole country. Booking earlier costs less than booking in April, not because of a surcharge but because the available choices narrow.

What should not be in the price is travel, which is why the arithmetic in the next section matters. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. The practical consequence for a family in Al Rahba or on Yas Island is that the hour is an hour, and the rate is being paid for teaching rather than for a journey across the city.

04

The travel arithmetic across Abu Dhabi

This section exists because the in-home published band of AED 180 to 500 does not tell a family what proportion of the booking is teaching. The emirate's geography makes the question sharper than it is in a dense city: journeys run between the island, the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor, Saadiyat, Yas, and mainland communities to the north and south, and the slowest hour of the day is exactly the hour when a session would start.

The table works the figure out for a typical ninety-minute in-home booking arriving around five in the afternoon. The journey estimates are deliberately described as typical rather than precise, because traffic varies, but the structure of the result does not change with the exact minutes. Where a tutor spends a substantial part of the trip travelling, the effective rate per teaching hour is well above the headline rate, and the family is paying it without ever being shown the sum.

There is a second cost that nobody prices, which is the student's own state. A session that starts after a long bus journey and a rushed meal is not worth the same as a session on a weekend morning, whatever the clock says. For Abu Dhabi families on long commutes the arrangement that produces the most value per dirham is usually a short midweek review and the longer timed work moved to the weekend, which is a scheduling decision rather than a pricing one.

None of this is an argument that in-home tutoring is bad. It is an argument that the published in-home band should be read as including a journey, and that a family comparing two quotes should ask how long the tutor expects to travel. Where the answer is twenty minutes each way from the next community, the arithmetic is mild. Where it is forty minutes each way across the city, it is not.

05

How many hours the tier commits you to

  • Check the statement of entry for the tier before accepting any quote
  • Core candidates get most value from the exact-recall areas
  • Extended candidates need those plus the additional quantitative content
  • Tier changes are bounded by entry deadlines, not by progress

The tier your child is entered for is a budgeting fact before it is anything else. Core and Extended candidates sit different papers with different content depths and different grade ceilings, and an Extended candidate therefore has more ground to cover for the same amount of grade movement. A plan priced without reference to the tier is not a plan, and the statement of entry is the document that settles it rather than a set name.

For a Core candidate the money goes furthest on the exact-recall and presentational areas, because the conceptual depth is reduced and the cheap marks are available at both tiers. For an Extended candidate those areas are still the first purchase, and there is additional quantitative content behind them that the Core papers never reach. The sequence is the same; the length of the programme is not.

Movement between tiers is bounded by the entry calendar rather than by progress. Abu Dhabi candidates sit 0654 in June or in November, and entries for either close a long way ahead of the first paper, the exact day arriving through the centre rather than on a public page. By the time the spring term is running, a June tier is effectively set, so the same conversation that is administrative in March is a real one in October. If a family is budgeting partly in the hope of an Extended entry, that hope needs testing with the department early, while the department still has room to move the entry rather than only room to explain why it cannot.

This also affects what a quote should look like. We would rather state a number of sessions for a defined block, against a counted set of losses and a known tier, than quote an open-ended weekly arrangement. A block that ends has to justify itself; an arrangement that continues by default does not, and a family paying monthly for an indefinite period is the most common way money is wasted in this market.

06

Budgeting across two years, with the school bill in view

Tutoring is a small line next to school fees, and it is worth putting the two together before deciding what to spend. The table below is a planning frame rather than a quotation, and the AED figures in it come from the published market ranges set out earlier on this page. Filling it in for your own household usually clarifies the decision faster than any amount of comparison between providers.

One piece of relevant context has to be labelled carefully, because it applies to a different emirate. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under a second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a total of AED 2.5 billion. That is Dubai. Abu Dhabi families should check adek.gov.ae for the position in this emirate rather than assuming the same decision applies here.

The useful discipline is to decide the total first and the shape afterwards. A family that knows it can spend a fixed amount across Year 11 can choose between a short targeted block now and a weekly arrangement later, and can tell a provider which it wants rather than being sold the larger option by default. A family that starts with a monthly commitment and no total in mind usually spends more and reviews less.

Two further costs belong in the frame and are usually forgotten. Preparation for the practical component is cheap and is often omitted from plans entirely. And any private-candidate entry fee, where a student is sitting a paper outside their school's entry, is a separate matter arranged through a centre and nothing to do with a tutoring provider.

Group classes, and why three strands resist grouping

  • Groups formed around a timetable rather than a diagnosis dilute every hour
  • Individual script marking rarely survives a group arrangement
  • A short targeted one-to-one block often costs less in total
  • Ask how a group was formed before judging the per-student rate

Group classes are genuinely cheaper per student, and in the mainland districts of Abu Dhabi they are readily available. For a single-subject syllabus with a shared timetable they can work well. For the double award they are harder to make work, and the reason is structural rather than a matter of teaching quality: four students in a 0654 group are usually losing marks in different strands, and the hour can only be pointed at one of them.

That produces a predictable pattern. The student whose losses match the session's focus gains; the others sit through content they already hold. Over a term each student receives perhaps a third of the hours they paid for in terms of relevance, which makes the lower per-student rate considerably less of a saving than it appears. Where a group has been formed around a shared diagnosis rather than a shared timetable, this objection falls away.

The second limitation is marking. Individual script marking against the published scheme is the first thing that disappears from a group arrangement, because it does not scale. Since marking is the mechanism that moves presentational and definitional marks, and since those are the cheapest marks in the course, a group class often removes exactly the component that would have given the best return.

Where a budget is genuinely tight, our view is that a short one-to-one block aimed at counted losses beats a term of group classes, and it costs less in total. That is an unusual thing for a provider to say, and it follows from the arithmetic rather than from generosity. A family that can afford only four hours should spend them on the four hours that return the most marks.

08

What to send so the quote does not change later

  • Send a marked paper, the tier, your free slots and the series date
  • Expect a number of sessions and a total, not a band
  • The free lesson is one per student, with no card required
  • Ask whether a quoted figure includes VAT, and ask for an invoice

Most of the complaints families have about tutoring pricing come from quotes given without information. A provider asked how much do you charge will give a band; a provider sent a marked paper, a tier and two available evenings can give a number of sessions and a total. The second is a quote. The first is a brochure, and it will change once anybody looks at the work.

Four things are enough. The most recent marked science paper, so the losses can be counted by strand. The statement of entry or a confirmation of the tier, since Core and Extended plans differ in length. The two or three evenings and weekend slots that are genuinely free, because a plan built on an evening that is already taken will be rescheduled out of existence. And the date of the series your child is sitting, so the plan can be counted backwards from it.

With those in hand, the first session is free and produces a counted set of losses, a written diagnosis and a recommendation with a number of sessions attached. The free lesson is one per student, needs no card, and nothing has to be cancelled afterwards. We mention the condition here because a provider advertising something free without saying what the condition is should be asked, and we would rather be held to the same standard.

On invoices and tax, our position is narrow and deliberate. Ask any provider whether a quoted AED figure includes value added tax and ask for a proper invoice. We do not state the VAT treatment of tuition fees in the UAE as a general fact, because that is a matter for the Federal Tax Authority rather than for a tutoring page, and a family that needs certainty on it should take the question to an accountant or to the authority itself.

09

When we would tell an Abu Dhabi family not to spend the money

  • Try the school's own support before paying for a parallel arrangement
  • With weeks left and gaps across all three strands, buy only the cheap marks
  • A sleep, confidence or workload problem is not a tutoring problem
  • Where losses are small and thin, a single diagnostic session may be enough

There are several situations where buying sessions is not the right decision, and saying so costs us a sale and keeps the page honest. The first is where the school is already providing targeted support that the family has not used. A science department running a clinic for its coordinated sets is offering free teaching from somebody who knows the cohort and the scheme of work, and paying for a parallel arrangement before trying it is poor value.

The second is where the mark count shows large content gaps across all three strands with only a few weeks left. More hours cannot cover a syllabus in that window. The honest advice is to spend a small amount on the recall-heavy and presentational areas for the best marks per hour and let the rest go, rather than buy a package that cannot do what the family is hoping for.

The third is where the problem is not academic. A student who is not sleeping, who has lost confidence after a poor mock, or who is carrying more subjects than they can manage is not helped by a seventh hour of science a week. That is a conversation with the school, and occasionally with somebody else entirely. A tutoring provider that cannot recognise it is selling the wrong thing.

And the fourth is simply that the counted losses are small. Where a comparable paper shows a student a few marks below their target with the losses spread thinly, the realistic gain from a term of paid sessions may be smaller than the cost, and the better purchase is a single diagnostic session with a written plan the student can execute alone. We offer that, and a number of families take it and stop there.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Abu Dhabi

For a cost conversation, the thing that varies across Abu Dhabi is journey time, because journey time is what an in-home rate is partly paying for. The notes below give the practical position in each community.

Saadiyat Island

A short crossing from the island but a long run from the mainland, so a visiting tutor is either local and scarce or travelling and expensive. Online sessions remove the premium entirely and widen the pool to anybody who teaches the double award.

Yas Island

Journeys here are straightforward outside peak hours and slow at five in the afternoon. In a ninety-minute in-home booking arriving at that time, a meaningful share of what you pay for is the approach rather than the teaching.

Al Bateen and Al Khalidiyah

Central island addresses with the shortest journeys in the emirate, which is where in-home rates are most competitive. Even here the comparison is about the tutor pool rather than the drive, since the double award needs all three strands covered.

Al Raha Gardens and Al Raha Beach

Mainland communities with good access and busy activity schedules. Families here most often ask whether a monthly package is better value than paying per session, and the answer depends entirely on whether marking is included.

Al Rahba and Al Shahama

Northern mainland addresses where a round trip from the island is substantial. These are the communities where the arithmetic of an in-home booking is least favourable and where online delivery changes the cost most.

Masdar City and Khalifa City

Established and newer communities on the mainland side with large school catchments. Buses arriving after four push sessions later, and a later start is also when city journeys are slowest.

Al Maryah Island and Al Zahiyah

Apartment living with working parents in many households. Here the value of written marking is highest, because nobody is available to sit alongside a session and check what was covered.

Mussafah and Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Dense mainland districts where group classes at the budget end of the market are genuinely available. Whether a group works for a three-strand course is a separate question, addressed further down this page.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Saadiyat, Yas and Al Maryah

Newer campuses with smaller year groups, where the double award is often the standard route and separate sciences are reserved for students continuing them. Families here are usually comparing a premium in-home quote against an online specialist.

  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • West Yas Academy
  • The Pearl Academy
  • Repton Abu Dhabi

Al Bateen and Al Mushrif

Long-established island campuses with large science departments running both the coordinated and separate routes. Students we support in these communities are frequently entered for Extended papers, which changes the number of hours a plan requires.

  • Al Bateen Academy
  • The British School Al Khubairat
  • Al Mamoura Academy
  • Merryland International School

Al Raha, Al Rahba and Al Shahama

The mainland corridor and the northern communities, with large year groups and a mix of curricula. Journey times from here are what make the in-home arithmetic least attractive and the online comparison clearest.

  • Raha International School
  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • Reach British School
  • Al Dhafra Private Schools

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send four things

The most recent marked science paper, the statement of entry or the tier, the evenings and weekend slots that are genuinely free, and the series your child is sitting. With those, a provider can quote a number of sessions and a total rather than an hourly band.

  2. 02

A free first lesson that counts the losses

One free session per student, with no card required and nothing to cancel. It attributes every lost mark to biology, chemistry or physics and to a type of error, and produces a written diagnosis you keep whether or not you buy anything.

  3. 03

Price the plan, not the hour

The recommendation names the areas to work on in order of marks returned per hour, the number of sessions, and the total. A short targeted block is often what the count supports, and it is often cheaper than the weekly arrangement families expect to be sold.

  4. 04

    Marked work inside the figure

Written work is set each session and comes back marked against the published scheme, with a record of which strands have been tested. That is inside the quoted figure rather than billed on top, because it is the part that moves the cheapest marks.

  5. 05

Recount, then decide whether to spend more

After the block, the losses are counted again on a comparable paper. You then decide whether further hours are worth buying, with a number in front of you. Where the honest answer is that they are not, we say so rather than roll the arrangement forward.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every AED figure carries its source

The bands on this page are other providers' published rates and figures from a 2026 Dubai cost survey, stated as at October 2026 and attributed. A page that publishes a range without saying who charges it is publishing an opinion dressed as data.

Costed per mark, not per hour

Marks come back at very different prices depending on where they are being lost. Counting the losses first and ranking the areas by marks returned per hour is what turns a budget into a plan, and it usually makes the plan smaller.

The travel arithmetic shown, not implied

The published in-home band includes a journey across Abu Dhabi, and this page works out what that does to the effective teaching rate. Lessons are delivered over live video, so the hour you pay for is the hour your child is taught.

One tutor across three strands

The double award needs biology, chemistry and physics covered at a consistent depth. Three separate specialists at mid-band rates is a much larger monthly figure, and for most families on this page it buys coverage the student does not need.

Blocks that end

We would rather quote a defined number of sessions against counted losses than an open-ended monthly arrangement. A block has to justify itself at the end; a rolling arrangement does not, which is how money quietly disappears in this market.

Advice against spending, where it applies

Where the school's own support has not been tried, where the gaps are too wide for the time remaining, or where the counted losses are small and thin, the honest recommendation is to spend less or nothing. That recommendation is part of the free first session.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

What does a Cambridge IGCSE Coordinated Sciences 0654 tutor cost per hour in Abu Dhabi?+

Published figures across the UAE run from about AED 33 to 65 at the budget online end, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor, AED 200 to 450 or above for an IGCSE specialist, AED 180 to 500 for in-home visits including travel, and AED 650 at the premium end where one provider publishes that figure. Those are other providers' own rates as at October 2026 rather than our price list. For the double award the number that matters more is the total, because the plan has to cover three disciplines.

Which part of 0654 gives back the most marks per dirham spent?+

Physics unit handling first, then biology definitions and named structures, then thermal physics mechanisms, then group trends with their explanations, then the practical conventions. All of those are forms of words or habits rather than concepts, so one session each can secure them and they are often being lost by students who understand the science perfectly well. Quantitative chemistry is the opposite: a large block of marks that moves slowly and needs spaced work across weeks. Counting the losses on a real paper tells you which applies to your child.

Why do two Abu Dhabi tutors quote such different rates for the same course?+

Five things explain nearly all of it: whether one tutor covers all three strands or only one; whether written work comes back marked against the published scheme between sessions; whether the plan was costed against Core or Extended; whether the practical component is included; and scarcity, which moves the top of the band in the weeks before a series. A quote that does not ask which tier your child is entered for has not been costed against anything, and is a band rather than a price.

Does the tier my daughter is entered for change what I should budget?+

Yes, substantially. Extended candidates have more content to cover for the same grade movement, so a plan runs longer at the same hourly rate. The cheapest areas are identical at both tiers, which means the first block of work looks the same; what differs is the additional quantitative content behind it that Core papers never reach. Check the statement of entry rather than a set name, because set names vary between schools and do not always match the entry that was actually made.

How much should I budget for 0654 across Year 10 and Year 11?+

Published monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run from about AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to over 2,000 for specialist examination-year support. A short targeted block of four to six sessions aimed at the cheapest marks is a much smaller total and is frequently enough. The discipline that helps most is deciding your total first and then choosing the shape, rather than starting a monthly arrangement with no ceiling in mind.

How much of an in-home hour in Abu Dhabi is actually teaching?+

It depends on the journey, and the published in-home band of AED 180 to 500 includes it. Within the central island a trip is short and the headline rate is close to the real one. From the island out to Khalifa City, or from the mainland to Al Rahba, Al Shahama or Al Shamkha at five in the afternoon, a meaningful part of the booking is the approach, and the effective teaching rate rises accordingly. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India.

Is a small group class a sensible way to cover three sciences?+

Only where the group was formed around a shared diagnosis rather than a shared timetable. Four students on the double award are usually losing marks in different strands, and an hour can be pointed at one of them, so each student receives a fraction of the relevance they paid for. Individual script marking is also the first thing a group arrangement drops, and that is the mechanism that moves the cheapest marks. On a tight budget, a short one-to-one block aimed at counted losses usually costs less in total.

Does the quote include marking between sessions?+

Ask, every time, of anybody. It is the single largest hidden variable in this market. An hour of live teaching is one hour of work; an hour plus a script marked against the published scheme and a record of which strands have been tested is closer to ninety minutes, which is why the specialist bands sit where they do. In our arrangement the marking is inside the quoted figure rather than billed on top, because it is the part that moves definitional and presentational marks.

Do science tutoring rates in Abu Dhabi change as the exam series approaches?+

The published bands do not move, but the available choices narrow sharply, which has the same practical effect. A tutor who can carry all three strands of the double award at Extended depth and mark them properly is not common, and demand for that person peaks across the whole country at once in the weeks before a series. Booking earlier does not buy a discount; it buys a choice. Families who wait until April are generally choosing from whoever is left rather than from whoever fits.

Should we take a monthly 0654 package or pay for a defined block?+

It can be, and the questions that decide it are what happens to unused sessions, how much notice is needed to pause, and whether marking sits inside the figure. Published packages in this market appear at around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and between AED 1,599 and 1,799 for four in-home sessions of two hours. A package is good value when the student will genuinely use every session and poor value across a term containing travel, assessment weeks and a shortened school day.

What should I ask about VAT on a tutoring invoice?+

Ask whether the AED figure you have been quoted is inclusive or exclusive of value added tax, and ask for a proper invoice showing it. We deliberately do not state the general VAT treatment of tuition fees in the UAE on this page, because that is a matter for the Federal Tax Authority rather than for a tutoring provider, and a page that asserts it without citing the authority is guessing on your behalf. Where certainty matters for your household, put the question to an accountant or to the authority directly.

What does the free first lesson include, and is there a condition?+

It is one free session per student, with no card required and nothing to cancel afterwards. In it, the lost marks on a paper you send are counted by strand and by error type, your child writes one description answer which is marked against the published scheme wording in front of them, and you receive a written diagnosis with a recommended number of sessions. You keep that diagnosis whether or not you buy anything, and several families take it to their school instead.

How much does preparing for the 0654 practical component add?+

One or two sessions, which is cheap relative to the share of the grade it carries. The skills examined are conventions rather than content: reading instruments, recording to consistent precision, tabulating with units in the heading, plotting, drawing a line of best fit that is not obliged to pass through the origin, identifying anomalies, naming a specific source of error and suggesting an improvement that addresses it. Those can be taught over video. Apparatus handling for a laboratory test remains the school's part of the work.

Does Abu Dhabi school fee policy affect what we should budget for tutoring?+

It affects the total household figure, and the position here should be checked locally. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under an incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. That decision is Dubai's. For Abu Dhabi, check adek.gov.ae rather than assuming the same applies, and put the school bill and the tutoring plan in the same frame before deciding what to spend.

When would you tell us not to buy any sessions?+

Four situations. Where the school already runs targeted support the family has not tried, since that is free teaching from somebody who knows the scheme of work. Where the mark count shows wide gaps across all three strands with only weeks left, when the honest plan is a small amount of work on the cheapest marks. Where the real problem is sleep, confidence or subject load rather than science. And where the counted losses are small and thinly spread, when a single diagnostic session with a written plan may be all that is worth buying.

Get a total, not an hourly rate

If you are being quoted hourly figures for Cambridge IGCSE Coordinated Sciences 0654 support in Abu Dhabi and none of them comes with a number of sessions attached, send four things instead: the most recent marked science paper, the tier from the statement of entry, the slots that are genuinely free, and the series your child is sitting. The free first lesson counts the lost marks by strand, marks one written answer against the published scheme, and comes back with an ordered plan and a total.
