IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

Why a 0607 plan should produce paper, not reassurance

Cambridge IGCSE International Mathematics 0607 is the syllabus chosen by a particular kind of school: one that wants its students to use a graphics display calculator as a mathematical tool, to meet an investigation as a formal assessment, and to move into an International Baccalaureate Diploma or an international sixth form without a jolt. In Abu Dhabi it is most often found in schools running the IB continuum alongside, or instead of, a British curriculum. That context matters, because it changes what a parent can check.

The problem families run into is that the usual signals are unreliable on this syllabus. A school report gives a predicted grade, which is a judgement made from several pieces of evidence that you have never seen. A mock mark gives one number from one sitting, which may have been Paper 2 on a bad morning. Neither tells you whether your child is losing marks because of the mathematics, because of the calculator, because of how the answer was written down, or because the investigation paper asked for something unfamiliar. Those four causes have completely different fixes and completely different timescales.

So the arrangement on this page is built around producing evidence rather than producing confidence. The first week is a baseline: your child sits work drawn from each of the three component types, and it is marked against the published scheme, question by question. The output is a short written diagnosis that assigns every lost mark to a category. Nothing is taught in that week beyond what the marking reveals, because teaching before diagnosis is how a term disappears into topics the student already knew.

After that the pattern is fortnightly. Work is set, written out under time, marked, and added to a running record. Every two weeks you get a note that says which topics moved, which did not, and what the next fortnight will do about it. The note is deliberately short and deliberately specific. A parent should be able to read it in two minutes and know whether to carry on paying. Where the record says a plan is not working, we say so rather than wait for the series to say it for us.

One practical point about delivery. Lessons for Abu Dhabi families are taught one to one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, around the school week. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE, because home visits are a service offered only in India. For 0607 that arrangement is the useful one: this is a minority syllabus in the emirate, the number of teachers who have actually taught the investigation component is small, and matching by subject rather than by driving distance is what puts one of them in front of your child.

At a glance

  • Week one is diagnosis from marked work, not an introductory lesson
  • Each lost mark is assigned a cause: content, calculator, presentation or reading
  • A fortnightly written note records movement by topic
  • Marked scripts belong to your family and can be shown to the school
  • 0607 requires a graphics display calculator, which creates its own error category
  • The investigation component is assessed work and stays entirely the student's own

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

0607 is usually chosen because of where it leads. Schools that run it tend to be planning for an international sixth form rather than a British one, and the programmes below are the ones that appear in the same conversation when an Abu Dhabi family asks what the grade is for.

Cambridge IGCSE International Mathematics

A Cambridge IGCSE assessed by a short-answer paper taken without a calculator, a structured paper taken with one, and an investigation component. A graphics display calculator is treated as part of the mathematics rather than as an aid, and candidates are entered at Core or Extended. The exact components for a given series are set out in the current syllabus, which is the document to check before buying revision material.

In Abu Dhabi this syllabus clusters in schools with an international outlook, several of which also offer the IB Diploma. That makes the department small, and it makes a transferring student's prior experience the first thing to audit: a child arriving from a 0580 class has met most of the content and none of the calculator expectations.

0580Ages 15-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics

The more widely entered Cambridge maths IGCSE, with Core and Extended tiers and no investigation component. The content overlaps substantially with 0607, which is why families assume the two are interchangeable for revision purposes. They are not: a 0580 past paper trains none of the calculator work and none of the investigative writing that 0607 assesses.

Most British-curriculum schools in the emirate enter 0580 or the Pearson equivalent, so a student moving between Abu Dhabi schools mid-course can change syllabus without changing subject. The marked baseline exists partly to find out which of the two sets of habits a new student actually has.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme Mathematics

The programme that precedes 0607 in many international schools, assessed against criteria including knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. Students arriving in 0607 from the Middle Years Programme are often strong at investigation and less practised at the timed, non-calculator precision the short-answer paper demands.

Abu Dhabi has a substantial Middle Years Programme population, and the transition into an examined syllabus in Year 10 is a recognisable pressure point. The baseline marking usually shows it clearly: good investigative writing, thin accuracy under time.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

The Diploma route that most closely matches the habits 0607 builds, with technology used throughout and statistics carrying real weight. The exploration written across the two years is the student's own work from first draft to final submission, and the course rewards the modelling instincts an investigation component has already started to develop.

Where an Abu Dhabi family is choosing between the two Diploma maths routes, 0607 experience is relevant evidence but not a decision. The school's own guidance on Analysis and Approaches against Applications and Interpretation should lead, and university subject requirements should be checked directly rather than assumed.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The grid below is the 0607 content as it appears in a marked record. For each area, the entry says what the script usually shows when marks are going missing there, because that is the form in which a parent meets the syllabus.

Number and accuracy

Core and Extended

Standard form, upper and lower bounds, ratio and percentage change. On a marked script this area shows up as answers correct to the wrong degree of accuracy, or bounds calculated in the right way and then combined the wrong way round in a division.

Algebra and manipulation

Core and Extended

Expanding, factorising, rearranging and solving, including work without a calculator. The record almost always shows the same thing: method secure, sign errors frequent, and a noticeable drop in accuracy on the paper where the calculator is not available.

Functions and graphs

Core and Extended

Function notation, domain and range, asymptotes, and reading features from a displayed graph. Losses cluster around describing a feature rather than stating it, and around giving a value read from the calculator screen without the accuracy the question asked for.

Coordinate geometry

Core and Extended

Gradients, midpoints, parallel and perpendicular lines, and equations of straight lines. This area is usually solid in the record. Where marks go, they go on questions that require the equation in a specified form rather than any correct equivalent.

Geometry and reasoning

Core and Extended

Angle properties, congruence, similarity and circle theorems. The script shows the answer reached and the reason omitted. Marks here are attached to naming the property used, and students who were never required to write reasons simply do not write them.

Mensuration

Core and Extended

Area, surface area, volume, arcs, sectors and compound shapes. Errors are rarely conceptual. They are substitution slips, a radius used where a diameter was given, and units left off a final answer in a question that specified them.

Trigonometry

Core and Extended

Right-angled work, the sine and cosine rules, bearings and three-dimensional problems. The record usually separates into two causes: a diagram never drawn, and a calculator in the wrong angle mode producing a plausible number that attracts no suspicion.

Vectors and transformations

Core and Extended

Column vectors, magnitude, combining transformations and describing them fully. A full description needs every parameter, so a rotation stated without a centre and a direction loses marks even where the image drawn on the grid is perfectly correct.

Probability

Core and Extended

Single and combined events, tree diagrams and conditional cases. On the script this shows as a tree drawn correctly and then read along the wrong branch, or as probabilities multiplied where the question described events that were not independent.

Statistics and data

Core and Extended

Averages from grouped data, cumulative frequency, scatter diagrams and correlation. Marks are available for interpretation as well as calculation, and the record shows students who compute a statistic accurately and then write nothing about what it means.

Sets and logic

Core and Extended

Set notation, Venn diagrams and problems requiring regions to be identified from a description. Losses come from notation rather than reasoning: the right region shaded and the wrong symbol written, or an intersection and a union confused under time pressure.

Investigation and modelling

Core and Extended, component dependent

Working from a pattern or a situation towards a generalisation, with the reasoning written out. This is the area where a marked script is most revealing, because students who can see the pattern often lose most of the marks available for explaining how they saw it.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

All three arrangements below are delivered one to one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, and all three produce written evidence. They differ in how much of the year they cover and in how much marked work sits between the sessions.

Baseline and fortnightly review

The full arrangement. Week one produces a marked baseline across the component types and a written diagnosis. After that, work is set every session, marked before the next, and summarised in a fortnightly note that records mark movement by topic. Most families on this page use this shape from the start of Year 11.

  • A written diagnosis in the first week, before any topic teaching
  • Every piece of work marked against published scheme wording
  • A fortnightly note you can read in two minutes
  • Scripts and notes are yours and can be shown at the school

Single-paper diagnosis

One or two sessions for a family who wants to know what is actually going wrong before committing to anything. Your child's most recent mock or past paper is marked in full, the losses are categorised, and you receive the diagnosis in writing. Several families stop there and take it to the school, which is a reasonable outcome.

  • Works from a paper your child has already sat
  • Separates content, calculator, presentation and reading errors
  • A written list of causes ranked by marks lost
  • No requirement to continue afterwards

Timed-paper programme before the series

A short intensive run in the final weeks, structured entirely around full papers written under time. Each one is marked, the error record is updated, and the following session addresses only what the marking found. The aim in this window is converting existing knowledge into marks rather than adding content.

  • Full papers under timed conditions from the first session
  • Calculator work checked against what the screen was actually read as
  • Record updated after every paper so the trend is visible
  • Planned around the school's own study leave arrangements

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in Abu Dhabi

Tutors matched through this page work from scripts rather than from impressions. Each marks your child's written work against the published scheme wording, records the cause of each loss in a running note, and sends you that note. The teaching follows the evidence, which means the session plan changes when the evidence does.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

What a marked 0607 script shows that a report grade cannot

A predicted grade is a conclusion. A marked script is the data behind one. The difference matters because the actions available to a family are all specific: practise bounds, stop reading the calculator screen to two figures, write the reason next to the angle, draw the diagram before starting the trigonometry. None of those actions can be deduced from a letter on a report, and no amount of discussion with a tutor substitutes for seeing where the pen stopped.

This is also the only honest way to answer the question every Abu Dhabi parent asks in the first message, which is whether tutoring will make a difference. The truthful answer depends on which of four things is happening, and nobody can know which without reading a script. A student losing marks on content needs teaching. A student losing marks on calculator handling needs a fortnight of drills. A student losing marks on presentation needs the mark scheme shown to them once. A student losing marks on reading the question needs a slower start, not more mathematics.

The table sets out what each kind of evidence can and cannot settle. It is worth reading before the first session, because it also tells you what to send: the scripts, not the report. Where a school does not return marked papers, the next best thing is your child working a released paper at home under time, which produces the same evidence a fortnight earlier than waiting for the next internal assessment.

One caution about this approach. A record only has value if it is read, and the discipline of reading it is the parent's rather than the tutor's. Families who look at the fortnightly note and ask about the trend get a much better return on the same hours than families who file it. The note is kept short for exactly that reason.

02

The baseline: one week, three component types, one diagnosis

  • Work sampled from each component type, not from one paper
  • Marked against published scheme wording, question by question
  • Two pages of written diagnosis, with causes ranked by marks lost
  • Shortened to a single marked script where a series is weeks away

The first week does not teach. It measures. Your child sits short-answer work without a calculator, structured work with one, and a piece of investigative work, each under time and each drawn from released material. The tutor marks all of it against the published scheme wording rather than against a general sense of what a good answer looks like, and then writes two pages: what was lost, where, and which of four causes was responsible.

Splitting the baseline across component types is the point of it. A student can be strong with a calculator and weak without one, which the structured paper will never reveal on its own. A student can handle both written papers and have no idea what an investigation is asking for, which no amount of algebra practice addresses. Averaging these into a single mark, which is what a mock does, destroys exactly the information a family needs.

Parents sometimes ask whether this is a wasted week when the series is approaching. In February, with a June entry, it is the opposite: the week spent measuring is what stops the following eight being spent on topics the student already knew. The one situation where we would shorten it is a student four weeks from a paper, where we would mark a single existing script instead and start work the same day.

What you receive at the end of the baseline is specific enough to act on without us. Several families have taken the diagnosis to the school's head of maths and arranged support internally, which is a perfectly good result. The evidence belongs to you, and it is more useful than anything we could say about our own teaching.

03

The four categories every 0607 loss falls into

Over enough marked scripts, lost marks on this syllabus sort into four families. Content means the student does not know or cannot do the mathematics. Technology means the mathematics is understood but the calculator has been used, read or trusted incorrectly. Presentation means the answer is right and does not earn the marks, because a reason, a unit, a form or an accuracy requirement was missing. Reading means the student answered a question that was not asked.

The reason for insisting on this taxonomy is that the four have different costs. Presentation errors are the cheapest to fix and often the largest single block of marks on a first baseline. Reading errors respond to a procedural change, usually underlining the instruction and the accuracy requirement before starting. Technology errors take a concentrated fortnight. Content gaps take as long as they take, and they are the only category where the honest answer to how long is sometimes longer than the time available.

A family that knows the split can also judge the plan. If a baseline shows the majority of losses in presentation and reading, a programme of new topic teaching is the wrong purchase, and anyone selling you one should be asked why. If the losses are genuinely content, then hours matter and the realistic gain over eight weeks is smaller than parents hope. Either way the conversation is about the record rather than about anybody's confidence.

The table gives the four categories with what each looks like on a page, so you can run the first pass yourself on any marked paper your child brings home. It is not difficult. The mark scheme wording tells you what was being rewarded, and the gap between that and what your child wrote is the category.

04

Why a higher mark does not always move the grade

  • Marks are continuous and grades are banded; small gains can be invisible
  • A student near a boundary gains most from the cheapest categories
  • Grade thresholds are set after each series and cannot be predicted
  • The record tracks marks by topic, which is the thing that can be measured

Families are often disappointed by the first set of evidence for a reason that is arithmetic rather than educational. Marks move continuously and grades move in steps. A student who gains several marks across a paper has genuinely improved and may still be inside the same grade band, because the gain landed in the middle of a band rather than at its edge. The record shows the progress; the report does not yet.

This cuts the other way too. A student sitting just below a boundary can cross it with a very small gain, which makes the cheap categories disproportionately valuable late in the year. Where a baseline shows a block of presentation losses on a student whose predicted grade is one step below their target, fixing presentation is the highest-value work available, and it can be done in a fortnight. That is a specific, checkable claim, and it is the one piece of good news the evidence often contains.

What nobody can do is tell you where the boundary will fall. Grade thresholds are set after the series by the board, on the papers actually sat, and they vary. Any tutor who tells your child they need a specific mark for a specific grade is guessing, and the guess is usually taken from a previous series. The useful framing is directional: more marks is better, and the cheapest marks first.

This is why the fortnightly note records marks by topic rather than predicting a grade. A prediction would be more comforting and less honest. What we can show is movement, its direction, and which categories are still carrying losses, and from that you can judge whether to continue, change the plan, or stop.

05

Twelve weeks of evidence, week by week

The table below is the shape of a standard twelve-week run for a student entered for 0607, starting from a baseline. It is not a revision timetable, because the topics depend entirely on what the baseline found. It is a record of what should exist on paper at each point, so that a family can tell whether they are being given a programme or a sequence of pleasant hours.

Two features of it are worth drawing out. The first is that comparable papers are sat at week one, week six and week eleven. Comparability matters: a student who sits an easier paper in week six appears to have improved and has not, which is why the papers are chosen to match rather than taken in sequence from whatever is nearest. The second is that week six is a decision point with a real alternative. If the record shows no movement in the dominant category, the plan changes or the sessions stop.

Abu Dhabi families should adjust this for the school calendar rather than against it. Internal assessment weeks, residential trips and travel all take their slots, and Ramadan timings shift the practical window for an hour of concentrated work. A plan that ignores those collapses by the halfway point, which is why the schedule is agreed in writing at the start and moved deliberately rather than abandoned quietly.

By week twelve there should be three marked comparable papers, a topic record covering every area that has been tested, and a short written view of what the remaining weeks can realistically do. That final judgement is the part families value most, and it is the part that only exists if the evidence was collected from the beginning.

06

The graphics display calculator as a category of its own

  • Calculator errors leave almost no evidence on the page, so they need isolating
  • Angle mode, accuracy of read values, window settings and list entry are the usual four
  • Drills use questions with known answers so the student finds the error
  • Permitted models are set in the current syllabus, never by a tutor

0607 treats the graphics display calculator as part of the mathematics, which means it is also part of the error record. On a marked script, calculator errors look different from mathematical ones. The working is short, the number is wrong but reasonable, and there is nothing on the page to diagnose, because the mistake happened on a screen nobody else saw. Over a term these losses are substantial and they are entirely fixable, which makes them worth isolating.

The recurring causes are few. An angle mode left in the wrong setting produces trigonometric answers that are wrong by a believable margin. A value read from a graph to two significant figures is then used in a calculation that needed more. A window set badly hides the intersection the question was about, and the student reports the one they can see. A statistical function is used with the frequencies in the wrong list. None of these is a conceptual failure, and none of them appears in a mark scheme as a topic.

In a session these are drilled against questions where the answer is already known, so the student discovers the discrepancy themselves rather than being told about it. Working over live video helps here rather than hurting: the student narrates what they are pressing and what the screen shows, which is more informative than a tutor watching a device over a shoulder. Two weeks of this generally closes the category.

Model rules are set in the syllabus and in the information for candidates, not by the tutor, and they do change between syllabuses and series. The current Cambridge documents on cambridgeinternational.org are the only reliable source for what your child may take into the room, and a school's exams officer will confirm it for your centre. We teach on whatever model your child actually owns, because a fortnight spent fluent on a different device is a fortnight wasted.

07

Reading a school mock and an ADEK report against each other

  • An inspection band describes a school, not a single maths set
  • Ask whether the mock was a past series paper or written internally
  • Request the marked script, not just the mark
  • Check the statement of entry for the actual components and tier

ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi and publishes inspection outcomes on a banded scale. Those reports are genuinely useful for a school choice and close to useless for the question a 0607 family is actually asking, which is about one set taught by one teacher. An inspection judges provision across a whole school, including areas that have nothing to do with upper secondary mathematics.

A mock mark has the opposite problem. It is precisely about your child and almost impossible to interpret, because you do not know how the paper compared with a real one, how it was marked, or how the department converted the mark into a predicted grade. Two schools in the same emirate can run mocks of quite different difficulty and both call the result a prediction.

Used together, with the actual script in hand, they answer more. The report tells you how the school is judged overall. The script tells you what your child did. The department can tell you how the mock was set and marked, and whether the paper was a past series or an internally written one. That third question is worth asking, because an internally written paper tells you much less about likely performance in a real series.

The practical request to make of the school is simple and rarely refused: the marked script back, and confirmation of which components and tier your child is entered for on the statement of entry. With those two documents and a published mark scheme, a family can see almost everything a tutor can see. Anything we add after that is teaching, not information.

08

What the record costs, and what each band includes

Marking is the expensive part of this arrangement and the reason the rate sits where it does. An hour of live teaching is one hour. An hour of teaching plus a full script marked against the published scheme plus a maintained topic record is closer to ninety minutes of work, and providers at the lower end of the published market bands are generally not doing the second part. That is the distinction worth interrogating in any quote you receive, in Abu Dhabi or anywhere else.

The figures in the table are other providers' published rates and the bands from a 2026 Dubai cost survey, stated as at October 2026. They are market context rather than our price list, and Abu Dhabi tracks Dubai closely for online specialist teaching because the pool of tutors is national. What varies locally is in-home pricing, where the published range includes travel, and where crossing the city at five in the afternoon is bought at the teaching rate.

IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. We are not therefore comparing an in-home option against an online one as a matter of preference. The comparison in the table exists because families are quoted both, and the relevant question is how much of the hour is teaching and how much of it is a journey. For a syllabus as thinly taught as 0607 in this emirate, the tutor pool argument is stronger than the price argument anyway.

What to ask before paying: is the script marked between sessions, against what, and do I receive it. Is there a written record, and how often. What happens if the record shows no movement. A provider who answers all four plainly is offering something different from an hourly rate, and the difference is the thing you are actually buying here.

What this page will not claim

  • No IB session or results date is published anywhere on this site
  • No grade, score or improvement is promised by anybody
  • No regulator or board has approved, licensed or endorsed IB Gram
  • Assessed work stays the student's own, and official papers are linked rather than supplied

No IB examination or results date appears anywhere on this page. The International Baccalaureate's own site blocks automated checking, so nothing in this project has been confirmed from the source, and publishing a date that turns out to be wrong would be worse than publishing none. Where an Abu Dhabi family needs an IB date, the Diploma coordinator at the school holds the authoritative version. Cambridge and Pearson dates are a different matter: both publish timetables, and the published figures are quoted on this site with their source.

No grade is promised. A 0607 result depends on three components sat under timed conditions by a teenager on particular mornings, and on thresholds set after the series. What can be committed to is the process: work set, work marked against the published scheme, causes recorded, movement reported fortnightly, and an honest view when the record says the plan is not working.

No approval is implied. IB Gram holds no permit, licence, accreditation or partnership from ADEK, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, Cambridge, Pearson or the International Baccalaureate, and it operates no premises in the UAE. Private tutoring in the country is regulated by permit through MoHRE under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and we check a tutor's permit position before a match. We do not describe that check as anything more than it is.

No assessed work is produced for a student. The investigation component of this syllabus is the candidate's own, and a tutor's role with it is to teach the skills of investigating, to discuss method, and to give feedback on reasoning the student has written themselves. Official syllabuses, past papers and mark schemes are the boards' copyright: we reference them, cite them and link to them, and we do not redistribute them as downloads.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Abu Dhabi

What changes between Abu Dhabi communities is not the syllabus but the practical shape of the week: when a student is home, how long the bus takes, and which evening can hold a timed paper without being interrupted. The notes below are about scheduling and about which schools sit nearby.

Al Reem Island

A dense residential community with newer campuses close by and short journeys home. Families here often take an early evening slot and keep the weekend free, which suits a fortnightly pattern of timed paper followed by review.

Al Maryah Island and Al Zahiyah

Apartment living with working parents on both sides in many households. The marked record matters more here than anywhere, because nobody has an hour to sit in on a session and read the working themselves.

Corniche and Al Khalidiyah

Island addresses with short school runs to several long-established campuses. A student home by half past three can sit a full timed paper before the evening meal, which is the hardest thing to schedule anywhere else.

Al Raha Beach and Al Bandar

Waterfront communities on the mainland side with a strong international school intake. Journeys are short but activity schedules are full, so a fixed fortnightly review slot works better than a weekly one that keeps moving.

Khalifa City

A large catchment where buses can arrive after four. We schedule the timed paper at the weekend and the review session midweek, so the tired half hour after a long journey is never the hour that decides anything.

Al Shamkha and Al Falah

Newer mainland villa communities with long commutes to island schools. The practical consequence is that evidence has to be produced at home rather than in a tuition centre, which is exactly how this arrangement works.

Baniyas and Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Established communities with a large Indian and mixed-curriculum enrolment nearby. Students here sometimes change syllabus when they change school, and the baseline marking is what reveals which habits came with them.

Saadiyat Island and Al Ghadeer

Two very different communities with the same characteristic: small cohorts and frequent mid-year arrivals. A transferring student's first marked paper is more informative than any transcript from a previous school.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Al Reem, Al Maryah and the island

Newer international campuses on and around Al Reem sit alongside long-established island schools. These are the departments most likely to be running an international maths syllabus rather than the mainstream one, and students we support in these communities are frequently heading for an IB Diploma.

Al Raha, Khalifa City and Yas

The mainland corridor holds a large share of the emirate's international enrolment, including several schools offering IB programmes end to end. Transfers between these schools mid-course are common, which is the situation a marked baseline is designed for.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the scripts, not the report

The most useful first message carries your child's most recent marked maths papers, a note of which tier and components they are entered for if you know, and the realistic free evenings. Two pages of working tell a specialist more than a full school report does.

  2. 02

A free first session that marks something

The trial is a working hour. Where you have a script it is marked live and the causes explained; where you do not, your child sits a short piece of 0607 work and it is marked on the spot. You receive the written diagnosis either way, with no card required and nothing to cancel.

  3. 03

    Baseline week

Work sampled from each component type under time, marked against the published scheme, and written up as a two-page diagnosis with causes ranked by marks lost. For a family within a month of a series we compress this into a single marked paper and start teaching the same week.

  4. 04

    Fortnightly cycle

Work set each session, marked before the next, added to a topic record. Every two weeks you get a short note: what moved, what did not, what the next fortnight does. Comparable papers at the start, middle and end give three measured points rather than an impression.

  5. 05

    The week-six decision

At the halfway point the record is read as a whole. If the dominant category has not moved, the plan changes or we tell you to stop. That conversation is built into the arrangement because it is the one that most providers avoid having.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Evidence you can read without us

Marked scripts, a written diagnosis and a fortnightly topic note all belong to your family. Several families take them to the head of maths and arrange support inside the school instead, which is a legitimate outcome of having the information.

Marking against the published scheme

Work is marked against the board's own wording rather than a tutor's judgement of a good answer. That is what separates a presentation loss from a content gap, and it is the distinction the whole plan rests on.

A 0607 specialist, not a maths tutor

International Mathematics is a minority syllabus in Abu Dhabi, and the calculator expectations and investigation component are genuinely different from 0580. Matching online rather than by distance is what makes a specialist reachable from any community in the emirate.

A stated decision point

Week six exists to ask whether the sessions are working, with a real option to stop. Families who know that conversation is coming engage with the record differently, and the hours get spent better as a result.

Scheduling that survives the term

Sessions are set in Gulf Standard Time around the Abu Dhabi school week, with timed papers at weekends where the commute is long, and deliberate moves for internal assessment weeks, travel and Ramadan timings.

Limits stated in writing

No grade promises, no IB dates we cannot source, no implied approval from ADEK or any board, and no assessed work produced for a student. Everything we claim to have checked is named, and nothing beyond it is implied.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

What will I actually receive after a fortnight of 0607 sessions?+

Two marked scripts with the mark scheme wording noted beside each loss, a topic record showing which areas have been tested and what was scored, and a short written note saying what moved, what did not, and what the next fortnight will do. The note is deliberately brief enough to read in two minutes. All of it belongs to you and can be shown to your child's school. If you have received nothing written after a fortnight from any tutor, that is worth asking about, because the record is the part that makes the hours accountable.

Why would a higher 0607 mark leave the predicted grade unchanged?+

Because marks move continuously and grades move in steps. A gain of several marks is real improvement, and if it landed in the middle of a band rather than at its edge the grade stays where it was. The reverse is also true: a student sitting just under a boundary can cross it on a very small gain, which is why cheap categories such as presentation and reading are disproportionately valuable late in the year. Nobody can tell you where the threshold will fall, because the board sets it after the series on the papers actually sat.

Which 0607 component should the first marked paper be?+

Ideally not one component but work sampled from each type, because that is where the information is. A student can be fluent with a calculator and weak without one, which a structured paper alone will never reveal, and can handle both written papers while having no idea what an investigation is asking for. Averaging those into a single mark, which is what a mock does, removes exactly the detail a family needs. Where a series is only weeks away we compress this and mark whatever existing script you already have, then start teaching the same week.

How do you tell a calculator error from a maths error on a script?+

By the shape of the working. A calculator error usually leaves short working, a wrong but believable number, and nothing diagnosable on the page, because the mistake happened on a screen. The four recurring causes are an angle mode left in the wrong setting, a value read from a graph to too few figures, a badly set window hiding the intersection the question was about, and statistical data entered in the wrong list. In a session these are drilled against questions whose answers are already known, so the student finds the discrepancy instead of being told about it.

Can I use my child's school mock and the ADEK report together?+

Up to a point, and only with the script in hand. ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi and publishes inspection outcomes on a banded scale, which tells you how a whole school was judged and nothing about one maths set. A mock mark is precisely about your child and hard to interpret without knowing how the paper was set and marked. Ask the department whether the mock was a past series paper or written internally, and ask for the marked script back. Those two answers are worth more than either document alone.

How is a 0607 error record built, and who keeps it?+

It is built from marked work, one line per cluster of lost marks, with each entry assigned to content, technology, presentation or reading. The tutor maintains it and sends it to you, so both of you are looking at the same document. It grows only as work is tested, which means it never claims anything about topics your child has not met yet. After eight weeks a typical record carries a dozen or so entries, several of them closed, and the pattern across them is what the fortnightly note describes.

Can my child's school see the marked 0607 scripts?+

Yes, and we encourage it. The scripts and the written diagnosis are yours. Some families take them to the head of maths and arrange additional support inside the school, which is a perfectly good outcome and occasionally the right one. A department that can see which category the losses fall into can usually act on it faster than a parent can. We ask only that the marking is presented as an external tutor's marking against the published scheme rather than as a formal assessment, because the school's own judgements are the ones that feed a prediction.

How many marked papers before we know whether this is working?+

Three comparable papers, spread across roughly twelve weeks, gives a trend you can trust. Two gives a direction. One gives a starting point and nothing more. Comparability is the part people skip: a student who sits an easier paper at the halfway point appears to have improved and has not, so the papers are chosen to match rather than taken in order from whatever is nearest. The formal decision point is week six, when the record is read as a whole and the plan either continues, changes, or stops.

Why does my daughter lose accuracy marks on the paper without a calculator?+

Because the non-calculator paper tests manipulation that most students have quietly stopped practising. Sign errors in expansion, fractions handled by converting to decimals, surds left unsimplified and arithmetic done hurriedly in the margin all cost marks there and nowhere else. The record usually shows method secure and accuracy dropping sharply on that component alone, which is a reassuring finding: it is a drill problem rather than a comprehension problem, and a fortnight of short daily sets addresses most of it.

Is the 0607 investigation component something a tutor can mark honestly?+

A tutor can teach the skills of investigating, work comparable problems, and give feedback on reasoning the student has already written. Where a piece of work is being submitted as assessed, it stays entirely the candidate's own from first line to last, and the honest service is teaching the method rather than improving the artefact. For practice work drawn from released material there is no such constraint, and marking it against the published criteria is one of the most useful things a session can do, because investigative marks are where strong students most often underperform.

What happens if the evidence says the sessions are not helping?+

You hear it from us at the week-six review rather than discovering it after the series. If the dominant category has not moved across two comparable papers, there are three honest options: change the category being worked on, change the tutor, or stop. We will say which one the record supports. Occasionally the right advice is to stop paying and put the time into the school's own support, and that advice is part of what the fortnightly record exists to make possible. A plan nobody is willing to abandon is not a plan.

Do you provide 0607 past papers and mark schemes to download?+

No. Cambridge syllabuses, past papers, mark schemes and grade threshold tables are the board's copyright. We reference them, cite them and point you to the official pages on cambridgeinternational.org, and your child's school can supply released material through the proper channel. A provider offering a library of board material as free downloads is treating somebody else's copyright casually, which is worth noticing before you hand over anything about your child. Within a session we work from material the student legitimately has.

How much does weekly 0607 support with marking cost around Abu Dhabi?+

Published market figures put qualified online subject tutors at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour and specialist IGCSE or Diploma tutors at AED 200 to 450 or above, with one provider publishing AED 650 at the premium end. Those are other providers' own rates as at October 2026, not our price list. The band matters less than what sits inside it: an hour of teaching with a script marked against the published scheme between sessions is a different product from an hour of talking, and the lower bands generally exclude the marking entirely.

We may move to another emirate mid-year. Does the record follow us?+

Yes, and it is one of the reasons for keeping it. Lessons are delivered over live video, so a move from Abu Dhabi to Dubai, Sharjah or outside the country changes the time zone calculation and nothing else. The marked scripts, the topic record and the written diagnosis travel with you, which also helps the receiving school: a new head of maths can see what has been tested and what the causes were rather than starting from a transcript. Where the new school uses a different syllabus, the first job is a fresh baseline against that one.

Can 0607 sessions run during Ramadan and a shortened school day?+

They can, with the timing agreed in advance rather than improvised. School hours shorten, family routines change, and the useful hour moves for most households, often to later in the evening or to a weekend morning. We would rather set one protected slot that survives the month than keep a weekday evening that gets cancelled three times. The practical compromise most families settle on is shorter sessions, more focused work, and the timed papers moved out of the month entirely so that nothing measured happens under unrepresentative conditions.

Send a script and find out what is actually going wrong

If your child is entered for Cambridge IGCSE International Mathematics 0607 at a school in Abu Dhabi and nobody can tell you why the marks are where they are, the useful first step costs nothing. Send the most recent marked paper, say which components and tier your child is entered for if you know, and tell us which two evenings are genuinely free. The first session marks that work against the published scheme and gives you a written diagnosis separating content from calculator from presentation from reading. Lessons run one to one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, and you keep the record either way.
