IGCSE Home Tutor in Merashid

The practical problem with booking an IGCSE home tutor in Merashid is not the tutor. It is the clock. School ends, the drive home takes what it takes, and a session that was supposed to start at 16:30 starts at 17:05 with a tired child. This page is about timing, the schools Merashid families actually use, and how to pick a slot that survives a term. Lessons run one-to-one over live video.

  • Fixed weekly slot that does not depend on anybody's drive home
  • Session timing matched to year group and to the Fujairah school day
  • Ramadan and midterm adjustments agreed a week in advance

IB & IGCSE in Merashid

The slot is the decision nobody plans

Families in Merashid choose a tutor carefully and choose a time casually, which is the wrong way round. Over a two-year IGCSE course the slot decides more than the shortlist does, because the slot is what makes the weekly cycle possible: work set, work done, work marked, next session built on the marking. Break the slot and the cycle stops. A session that starts late is not a delayed session; it is a shorter one, and the part that gets cut is always the end, which is where the review and the next week's work are set.

Merashid is an established residential district of Fujairah, with a high share of long-term resident families and a school run into the city-centre schools that is short in distance and unreliable in duration. Add a second child at a different school and the household's earliest workable hour moves back by thirty or forty minutes. None of that is dramatic, and all of it is the difference between an arrangement that holds through February and one that quietly becomes fortnightly.

This is also where online delivery earns its keep in a way that has nothing to do with teaching quality. IB Gram teaches Merashid students one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and the slot does not depend on anybody's journey across Fujairah in the evening. It does not offer home visits in the UAE; home visits are an India-only service, stated the same way on every country page here. The in-home market exists and publishes roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour; part of what that buys is an arrival time rather than a start time.

So the sections below are operational rather than aspirational. Which schools Merashid feeds and when their days realistically end. Which slot suits which year group, because a Year 10 student and a Year 11 student in the spring need different hours of the evening. How to read a school inspection report, band by band, since that document is free, public and almost never used by the families it was written for. What the Year 9 options form actually commits a child to. And the exam-season logistics that catch families out every single series.

One factual anchor to carry through all of it. Cambridge International runs International GCSE in a June series and a November series, and those are the two a UAE candidate sits; the February and March series is offered to India only. Pearson Edexcel runs International GCSE in May/June and November. Entries close months ahead of the papers, which is why the Year 9 and Year 10 sections of this page matter more than the revision advice. Everything else here can be obtained from your child's school with two emails and a week of writing down arrival times, which is a cheaper investigation than any tutoring you will buy.

At a glance

  • A late start is a shorter session, and the end is what gets cut
  • Two children at two schools pushes the household's earliest hour back
  • Cambridge sciences: multiple choice 30%, theory 50%, practical 20%
  • Inspection reports are free, public and rarely read by parents
  • Lessons to Merashid are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three stages, and at each one the decisions that matter are made on a form rather than in a lesson. Knowing when those forms land is most of the planning a Merashid parent needs to do.

YR 7-9Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Lower secondary, before the options form

Cambridge Lower Secondary or an equivalent middle-school programme, ending in Checkpoint tests in March, May and October windows. Checkpoint certificates do not count towards anything external; schools use them for setting and for tier placement, which is the function parents should care about.

The Year 9 options form is the most consequential piece of paper in a Merashid student's school career and is usually filled in during a single week. Subject choice, tier placement and in the sciences whether separate subjects or a combined award is taken all get settled there. Ask for the form, the deadline and the tier implications in writing before it comes home.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

International GCSE, Years 10 and 11

Eight or nine subjects over two years, assessed by terminal paper. The timetable is at its fullest here because the mandatory UAE subjects run alongside the international ones, which is why Year 10 evenings are shorter than families expect when they plan tutoring.

In Fujairah the Year 10 school week is long and the drive home is variable, so a realistic session slot for a Merashid student usually sits between 17:00 and 20:00 rather than straight after school. Two subjects at once in Year 10 is rarely a good purchase for that reason alone, regardless of what either subject needs.

YR 11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

The final IGCSE year

Mocks, coursework deadlines where entered, the final entry confirmation, then the series. The shape of the year is front-loaded: almost every decision that affects the grade has been taken by the time the revision feels urgent.

The two dates to extract from the school in the autumn of Year 11 are the final entry deadline and the mock window, not the exam dates. Entries close months before the papers, and Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six timetable zones with its own version of the timetable, so the exams officer's copy is the only one worth working from.

POST-16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

What comes after, and why Year 10 decides it

A Levels or the IB Diploma, both gated on IGCSE grades in the same subject and usually at a B or better. A Core-tier entry caps the grade at C, so a tier decision taken in Year 10 can close a post-16 route two years before the student reaches it.

Local Diploma provision in Fujairah is limited, so a Merashid student choosing that route often moves school or emirate. Either way the Ministry of Education's sourced British-track equivalency rule applies downstream: five accredited IGCSE or GCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from the count.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Subjects below are listed with both boards' codes and with the practical note a Merashid parent needs: how much homework the subject generates, since that is what competes with a tutoring slot.

Mathematics (0580 / 0980; Edexcel 4MA1)

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

The highest regular homework load of any IGCSE subject and the one most families tutor first. A session placed immediately after a maths homework night wastes half its time on work the student has already attempted badly. Ask which nights maths is set.

Physics (0625; Edexcel 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Cambridge carries a practical component worth twenty per cent, taken as a practical test or an alternative-to-practical written paper. Edexcel has no separate practical exam. Practical write-ups cluster around the same weeks, which is when a session should be moved rather than cancelled.

Chemistry (0620; Edexcel 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Organic reaction conditions and ion tests are pure recall and can be drilled in short bursts, which makes Chemistry unusually tolerant of a shorter forty-minute session on a busy evening. Mole calculations need a full hour and a clear head.

Biology (0610; Edexcel 4BI1)

Core and Extended

The largest content load in the sciences, so the work between sessions matters more than the session itself. Retrieval practice in ten-minute blocks on three evenings beats one long revision sitting, and that is a scheduling decision rather than a teaching one.

English as a First Language (0500; Edexcel 4EA1)

Core and Extended

Writing tasks need an uninterrupted stretch, so this is the worst subject to tutor in a compressed slot after a long school day. A weekend morning session often works far better for English than any weekday evening can.

Economics (0455; Edexcel 4EC1)

Core and Extended

Diagram drills are short, repeatable and well suited to an evening slot. Extended-response evaluation needs more room, so a sensible pattern alternates: diagram and recall work midweek, extended writing at the weekend.

Business Studies (0450; Edexcel 4BS1)

Core and Extended

Case-study work needs reading time before the session, not during it. Sending the insert in advance converts a sixty-minute session into something closer to ninety minutes of value, and costs nothing.

Computer Science (0478; Edexcel 4CP0)

Core and Extended

Pseudocode is marked on logic rather than syntax. Conversion drills on binary, hexadecimal and two's complement are short and benefit from frequency, so they are ideal filler for a compressed evening when the drive home has run late.

Geography (0460; Edexcel 4GE1)

Core and Extended

Skills questions are the dependable marks; case studies decide the grade, and a named example with figures scores where a generic one does not. Fujairah's coastline and water scarcity are local material Merashid students rarely think to use.

Arabic (0508 first language / 0544 foreign language)

Core and Extended

Two separate qualifications with different papers. Because UAE private schools must teach Arabic alongside the licensed curriculum, this subject sits inside the school day rather than beside it, and tutoring works from the school's own material.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to fit IGCSE support into a Merashid week, all delivered online and one-to-one. The right one is mostly a function of when the household can actually sit down.

A fixed weekday evening slot

One session a week at the same hour, chosen after you have established the realistic arrival time rather than the official end of school. Sixty minutes that start on time beats ninety that start late, because the end of a session is where the review happens and the next week's work is set.

  • Chosen around the household's slowest school run, not the fastest
  • Same weekday every week on Gulf Standard Time
  • Work set at the end and marked before the following session

A weekend morning session

Better than any weekday evening for subjects that need an uninterrupted stretch: English writing tasks, extended-response Economics, coursework drafting. A rested student at 10:00 on a Saturday produces work that a tired one at 19:00 cannot, and the difference shows up in marked writing within a month.

  • Suited to writing-heavy subjects and coursework drafting
  • Avoids competing with the school's own homework nights
  • Often the only workable option for a household with two school runs

Two short sessions instead of one long one

Forty minutes twice a week rather than eighty once, for subjects built on recall and drills: Chemistry ion tests and organic conditions, Computer Science conversions, maths arithmetic fluency. Frequency beats duration for retrieval, and a short session survives a late drive home where a long one does not.

  • Frequency over duration for anything recall-based
  • Resilient to a school run that overruns
  • Not suitable for writing tasks or long calculation work

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Merashid

01

What the Merashid school run does to a 16:30 session

  • Measure the real arrival time for a week before fixing a slot
  • Book thirty minutes after the latest arrival, not the earliest
  • Sixty minutes starting on time beats ninety starting late
  • No tutor travels to a Merashid address; delivery is online

Begin with the arithmetic nobody does. School ends; the bus or the car takes between fifteen and forty minutes depending on the day; a child needs food and a short break, which is not optional for a fourteen-year-old; and a second child at a different school adds another leg. A household that believes its earliest workable hour is 16:30 is usually working at 17:15. Booking the 16:30 slot anyway produces a session that starts late every week and ends on time, which means it loses its last fifteen minutes permanently.

That matters because of what sits at the end of a session. The review, the summary of what was understood, and the setting of the work for the coming week all happen in the final stretch. A session that is routinely truncated keeps the teaching and loses the follow-through, and the follow-through is where most of the gain lives. Families then conclude that tutoring is not working, when what is not working is the clock.

IB Gram teaches Merashid students one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, which removes one variable entirely: nothing depends on a tutor travelling across Fujairah at six in the evening. It does not offer home visits in the UAE; home visits are available only in India. Published rates for the in-home market here run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour against roughly AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor, and part of the premium is paying for somebody else's journey as well as your own.

The practical instruction is simple. For one week, write down the actual time your child is at a desk with food eaten. Book the slot thirty minutes after the latest of those times. It will feel late. It will also still be running in March, which is more than can be said for most tutoring arrangements started with an optimistic hour.

02

Which schools Merashid feeds, and what their days actually look like

Fujairah's private-school capacity sits in and around the city, so most Merashid students travel in rather than walk. The schools differ less in curriculum than in operational detail — when the day ends, which nights homework is set, whether there is a bus and how long its route takes — and those details are what a tutoring slot has to fit around. None of them appear in a prospectus, and all of them can be had by asking the school office.

There is a second layer that catches families moving in from elsewhere. Fujairah's private schools are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education, not by an emirate-level authority. Dubai's schools answer to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, Abu Dhabi's and Al Ain's to the Department of Education and Knowledge, Sharjah's to the Sharjah Private Education Authority, and Ras Al Khaimah's to its Department of Knowledge. A family moving from Sharjah to Fujairah, or using a school in Khor Fakkan, changes regulator without changing coastline.

That distinction is practical rather than academic. It determines where inspection reports are published, who approves a curriculum change or a fee increase, and which complaints route exists. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, which is a wider remit than inspection alone. The federal ministry plays the supervisory role for Fujairah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain.

The table below is the set of questions to ask rather than a directory, because school operational detail changes every August and a published list goes stale within a term. Three phone calls fill it in for your own household, and the answers decide the slot.

03

Session timing by year group, because Year 10 and Year 11 differ

A Year 10 student and a Year 11 student in the spring should not be tutored at the same hour or in the same way, and treating them identically is one of the quieter mistakes in this market. The Year 10 student has a full timetable, moderate homework, and time. The Year 11 student in February has mocks behind them, a coursework deadline passed or looming, and a series approaching. What each can usefully absorb at seven in the evening is completely different.

For Year 10 the sensible pattern is one session a week, slightly ahead of the school's scheme of work so the student meets each topic twice, and a session long enough for proper teaching. The goal is development, the cost per grade gained is lowest here, and the slot can afford to be a little later because there is no immediate deadline pressure compressing the week.

For Year 11 in the autumn the work shifts to coverage and technique, still weekly. By the spring it becomes paper work: timed sections, marked against the official scheme, with each lost mark attributed to a cause. That is tiring in a different way, so an earlier slot or a weekend morning usually produces more than a late-evening one. A student doing timed papers at 20:00 after a school day is measuring their fatigue rather than their ability.

Younger students, where a Merashid family is tutoring in Year 8 or 9 before the options form, are better served by two short sessions than one long one. Attention at that age is the binding constraint, not content. Forty minutes twice a week on arithmetic fluency or written explanation does more than eighty minutes once, and it survives a late school run intact.

How to read a school inspection report, band by band

Inspection reports are free, public and written for parents, and almost no parent reads one. UAE inspection frameworks use a six-band scale running from outstanding at the top through very good, good and acceptable to weak and very weak, and the bands are applied separately to different aspects of a school rather than only to the school as a whole. That separation is the useful part and the part that gets lost when a rating is quoted as a single word.

What a Merashid parent should look for is not the headline band. It is the band awarded for teaching and assessment in the relevant phase, the band for students' attainment and progress in the specific subjects your child takes, and the inspectors' narrative on what the school has been asked to improve since the last visit. A school with a strong overall band can carry a weaker secondary science outcome, and that is exactly the detail a tutoring decision should be based on.

The second thing to check is the date. An inspection is a snapshot, leadership changes, and a report two or three years old describes a school that may no longer exist in that form. Fujairah's private schools are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education, so that is where a Merashid parent looks; families using schools in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or Ras Al Khaimah go to that emirate's own authority instead.

Nothing on this page states or implies a rating for any named school, and no tutoring provider should. Ratings belong on the regulator's own site, with their date attached, and quoting one second-hand is how errors propagate. The point of knowing the scale is to read the real document rather than to accept somebody's summary of it, including this one.

THE SIX-BAND INSPECTION SCALE, AND WHAT A PARENT SHOULD DO WITH EACH
BandBroad meaningWhat to check next
OutstandingConsistently high quality against the frameworkWhether the band applies to your child's phase and subjects
Very goodStrong, with identified areas still developingWhich aspects sit below the headline band
GoodMeets expectations across most aspectsTeaching and assessment in the relevant phase specifically
AcceptableMinimum expected standard reachedThe improvement points inspectors listed, and the report's date
WeakBelow the expected standard in named aspectsWhether the weakness touches your child's subjects

The Year 9 options form, and what it quietly commits a child to

One sheet of paper, filled in during a single week of Year 9, sets most of what follows. It fixes the subject list for two years. It usually fixes the tier — Core or Extended on Cambridge, Foundation or Higher on Edexcel mathematics. In the sciences it decides whether a student takes three separate subjects or a combined award, which affects what post-16 courses will accept them. And it is frequently sent home with a short deadline and little explanation of the consequences.

The tier line is the one to interrogate. A Core-tier entry is assessed on a narrower syllabus and cannot be awarded above grade C, which removes the top four grades before any teaching happens and closes A Level and Diploma routes that require a B. In a small school market the sets are coarser, so borderline students tend to be placed cautiously. That is a rational decision for the school and a costly one for a family that wanted the higher route.

What changes it is evidence rather than argument. Extended-only content taught in Year 9 or early Year 10, followed by a timed Extended paper marked against the official scheme, gives a teacher something concrete to re-set on. That is a handful of sessions at the cheapest point in the whole course, and it is worth far more than the same money spent in Year 11. Ask in writing which tier is proposed, and when the entry deadline falls, before the form goes back.

The separate-versus-combined science decision deserves the same scrutiny. Three separate sciences is a heavier load and keeps the most doors open; a combined award is lighter and is accepted for fewer post-16 science courses. Neither is wrong, but a student who intends to take Higher Level Chemistry or A Level Physics should know which choice supports that before the form is signed rather than two years later.

06

Exam-season logistics that catch Merashid families every series

Three things go wrong in exam season and all three are administrative. The first is the entry deadline. Entries close months before the papers, and a subject not entered cannot be sat however well prepared the student is. Ask the exams officer for the final entry date in the autumn of Year 11 and write it down; it is a more important date than the exam itself, because the exam date is published everywhere and the deadline is not.

The second is the timetable. Cambridge allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones, each with its own version of the timetable, and states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. The failure mode is a timetable printed from a revision forum rather than obtained from the school. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series and then a final one, so the same instruction applies: use the exams officer's copy.

The third is the resit route, which families treat as a last resort and should treat as a plan. Both boards run a November series alongside the main summer one, so a single-subject resit costs months rather than a year. For a worked sense of the shape, the Pearson Edexcel International GCSE November 2026 timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students the following day. Those dates are backward-looking citations; for any upcoming series, use the live official timetable.

A Merashid-specific note on all three. In a small centre the exams officer is often also teaching, which means the answers come faster if you ask early and in writing. September and October are the right months for these questions. February is when everybody asks them at once.

07

Materials, coursework and what a tutor should decline to do

Specifications, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables are the property of Cambridge and Pearson. A provider that hands them out as downloads is reproducing copyrighted material, and where a paper is unreleased it is a malpractice exposure as well. The correct practice is to reference the document, cite the official address and link out, so a parent reads the authoritative version. Everything factual here about papers and series comes from the boards' own published guidance.

On coursework, where a school has entered a component, the line is authorship. A tutor may teach the content, explain the assessment criteria in the board's own wording, show how a comparable task is approached, read a draft the student has written and name where it falls short, and teach the student to fix it. A tutor may not write the coursework, draft the assignment, or edit a piece to completion so the sentences become theirs. Pages in this search result sell finished assessed work, and the consequence of that lands on the candidate.

There is a UAE-specific rule worth knowing before approaching a school teacher privately. Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the private tuition work permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's school. Treat that as press-reported rather than exact regulatory wording and check the current policy document, but the principle is sound nationally: your child's own classroom teacher is the wrong person to pay.

And a statement of position, because the claim circulates in this market. IB Gram is not approved, accredited, licensed or partnered by Cambridge International, Pearson, the International Baccalaureate, the Ministry of Education, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, the Department of Education and Knowledge or the Sharjah Private Education Authority. It holds no such relationship, claims none, and runs no premises in the UAE.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Merashid

Merashid and the districts around it, compared on the one variable that decides a tutoring slot: how long the afternoon takes and when a child is actually at a desk.

Merashid

Established residential district with a short but variable run into the city-centre schools. Households with two children at different schools rarely have both at a desk before 17:00, which sets the realistic slot window at 17:00 to 20:00.

Fujairah City centre

Most of the emirate's private-school capacity sits here, so students schooling locally have the shortest afternoon of anyone in Fujairah and can realistically start at 16:00 or 16:30.

Al Faseel

Coastal, near the corniche and the port, about fifteen minutes from the city schools. Slightly earlier starts are achievable than in Merashid, and that is the only operational difference between the two districts.

Sakamkam

Inland and north-west, nearer the mountain edge, with the longest afternoon return among the inner districts. Realistic starts move to 17:30, which narrows the usable evening considerably in exam term.

Al Gurfa

South along the coast road and dispersed, often with two separate school runs. Later still, and the district where a weekend morning session most often outperforms a weekday one.

Dibba Al Fujairah

Around ninety minutes north with the fewest local secondary options in the emirate. Boarding or long commutes are common, so tutoring here is planned around travel days as much as around school deadlines.

Khor Fakkan

A Sharjah enclave on the Fujairah coast, so its schools answer to the Sharjah Private Education Authority. Term dates and inspection publication follow Sharjah's calendar rather than the federal one.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Merashid

Fujairah city, serving Merashid and Sakamkam

The schools Merashid families use are concentrated in and around Fujairah city. Day end times, bus routes and homework nights differ between them more than curricula do, and all three are worth asking about before fixing a tutoring slot.

  • Our Own English High School, Fujairah
  • Fujairah Private Academy
  • Al Ameer English School, Fujairah

Sharjah and the northern coast

Families looking for a wider IGCSE offer within commuting range go west and north. Sharjah's authority approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so a move there changes more than the uniform.

  • Sharjah English School
  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Australian International School, Sharjah
  • Delhi Private School, Sharjah

Schools are named only as context for the Fujairah school system. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any school named here, and nothing on this page states or implies a rating for any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Measure the real arrival time for one week

Write down when your child is actually at a desk with food eaten, every day for a week, including the slowest day. Then book the slot thirty minutes after the latest of those times. It will feel late and it will still be running in March, which is more than most arrangements manage.

  2. 02

Get the syllabus code, the tier and the homework nights

The code and tier from the exams officer, the homework nights from the form tutor. A session the evening after maths homework repeats work already attempted badly. These three facts cost two phone calls and shape both the match and the slot.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson in the slot you intend to use

Not a convenient demonstration hour. Run the trial at the real time on the real weekday, so you find out whether your child can work at 18:00 on a Wednesday before committing to a term of it. The tutor's explanation and your child's alertness are both being tested.

  4. 04

Diagnostic paper in the first fortnight

A full past paper under timing, marked against the official scheme, with every lost mark attributed to a cause. Ask for it in writing. It turns a vague worry into a list of four to seven items, which is what the remaining sessions should be spent closing.

  5. 05

Agree the Ramadan and midterm pattern in advance

The slot usually moves later during Ramadan, often post-Iftar, with shorter sessions at the same frequency and recall work rather than new content. Settling that a week ahead keeps the work set between sessions getting marked instead of being dropped in the reshuffle.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The slot treated as a decision, not an afterthought

Over a two-year course the hour matters more than the shortlist, because the weekly cycle of work set, done and marked depends on sessions landing where they were booked. A late start is a shorter session and the end is always what gets cut.

Nothing depends on an evening drive across Fujairah

Lessons run online, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time, so the start time is a start time rather than an arrival window. Part of the published in-home premium of roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour is paying for somebody else's journey as well as your own.

Format matched to the subject and the year group

Writing tasks want a weekend morning; recall drills want forty minutes twice a week; timed papers want the earliest workable hour rather than 20:00. A student sitting a timed paper after a full school day is measuring fatigue, not ability.

The options form flagged while it still matters

One sheet in Year 9 fixes the subject list, usually the tier, and in the sciences separate against combined. A Core entry caps the grade at C and closes post-16 routes. Evidence from a timed Extended paper is what reopens it, and the cheapest point to produce that is Year 9.

Inspection reports explained rather than quoted

The six-band scale is applied aspect by aspect, not just overall, so the band for teaching in your child's phase matters more than the headline. No rating for any named school appears here; ratings belong on the regulator's own site with their date attached.

The administrative dates named before they bite

The entry deadline, the mock window and the correct Cambridge zone timetable are the three things that go wrong every series, and all three are obtainable in September with two emails. February is when every family asks at once.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Merashid: your questions answered

What time should a Merashid family actually book an IGCSE session for?+

Thirty minutes after the latest time your child is genuinely at a desk with food eaten, measured over a week rather than estimated. For most Merashid households with a city-centre school run that lands between 17:00 and 18:00, and later with two children at different schools. Booking earlier produces a session that starts late every week and ends on time, which permanently removes the final stretch where the review happens and the next week's work gets set.

Does a tutor travel to Merashid for lessons?+

Not through IB Gram. Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and home visits are not offered anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. The local in-home market is real, with published rates of roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour against roughly AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor. Part of that premium pays for a journey, and the practical cost of the journey is that an arrival time is not the same thing as a start time.

Why is a weekend morning better than a weekday evening for English?+

Because writing tasks need an uninterrupted stretch and a rested student. Directed writing and composition at IGCSE are assessed on register, audience and control, none of which a tired fourteen-year-old at seven in the evening can sustain for forty minutes. The difference shows up in marked writing within a month. Recall-based work is the opposite: Chemistry ion tests or Computer Science conversions survive a compressed evening slot perfectly well and benefit from frequency.

What does the Year 9 options form commit my child to?+

The subject list for two years, usually the tier, and in the sciences whether three separate subjects or a combined award is taken. The tier line is the consequential one: a Cambridge Core entry is assessed on a narrower syllabus and cannot be awarded above grade C, which closes post-16 routes requiring a B. Ask in writing which tier is proposed and when the entry deadline falls, before the form goes back rather than after.

How do I read a Fujairah school inspection report properly?+

Ignore the headline band first and look at three things: the band for teaching and assessment in your child's phase, the band for attainment and progress in the subjects they actually take, and the improvement points inspectors listed. Then check the date, because an inspection is a snapshot and leadership changes. Fujairah's private schools are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education, so that is the source. No tutoring page should be quoting a school's rating to you.

Which date matters more, the exam date or the entry deadline?+

The entry deadline, by a wide margin. Exam dates are published everywhere; entry deadlines fall months earlier and are not, and a subject that was never entered cannot be sat however well the student has prepared. Ask the exams officer for the final entry date in the autumn of Year 11 and write it down alongside the mock window. In a small centre the exams officer is often also teaching, so asking in September gets a faster answer than asking in February.

What are the Cambridge timetable zones and how do I avoid the mistake?+

Cambridge allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones, each with its own version of the timetable, and states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. The way families get caught is printing a timetable from a revision forum. Ask the exams officer which zone the centre is in and work only from the copy they provide, checked against the board's own site.

Can my child resit one IGCSE subject in November?+

Usually yes, and it is worth treating as a plan rather than a last resort. Both boards run a November series alongside the main summer one, so a single-subject resit costs months rather than a year. As a sense of the shape, the Pearson Edexcel International GCSE November 2026 timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. The entry is made through the school, with a deadline well before the paper.

Should I book two subjects at once for a Year 10 student in Merashid?+

Rarely, and the reason is the week rather than the money. The Year 10 timetable is at its fullest because mandatory UAE subjects run alongside the international ones, the drive home from the city schools is variable, and two sessions plus two sets of homework compete with school homework for the same evenings. Sequencing works better: start with the subject whose diagnostic shows the shortest list of causes, bank the improvement, then move the hours across.

Why does the school run matter more in Fujairah than in Dubai?+

Because the capacity is concentrated. Most of Fujairah's private-school places sit in and around the city, so students in Merashid, Sakamkam and Al Gurfa travel in rather than attending locally, and the return journey competes directly with the only usable hours of the evening. In a city with schools in every district, a family can often choose a school by commute. In Fujairah the commute is largely given, so the slot has to adapt to it.

What happens to sessions during Ramadan for a Merashid student?+

The slot usually moves later, often to a post-Iftar time, with shorter sessions at the same frequency and the content weighted towards recall and drills rather than new material. Shortened school days change what a student can absorb, so adding sessions during the month tends to backfire. Agree the change a week in advance so the work set beforehand still gets marked, and because lessons are online nothing depends on a tutor's evening journey.

How many separate sciences should a Merashid student take at IGCSE?+

It depends on the post-16 intention rather than on current ability alone. Three separate sciences is a heavier load and keeps the most doors open, including Higher Level Chemistry in the Diploma and A Level Physics. A combined award is lighter and is accepted for fewer post-16 science courses. Neither choice is wrong, but it is made on the Year 9 options form and reversed with difficulty, so the intention should be discussed before the form rather than after results.

Do I need to tell the tutor which nights homework is set?+

Yes, and it is one of the more useful things you can supply. A session the evening after maths homework spends half its time on work the student has already attempted badly and is now bored by, while a session the evening before it means the work gets done properly without the tutor present. The same applies to practical write-up weeks in the sciences, which cluster, and are better handled by moving the slot than by cancelling it.

Should the free trial lesson be at a convenient time or the real one?+

The real one. A trial at 15:00 on a Saturday tells you whether the tutor can explain; a trial at 18:00 on the Wednesday you intend to use tells you whether your child can work then, which is the question that decides whether the arrangement survives a term. Run it in the slot you actually plan to book, with you able to listen in, and judge both the explanation and the alertness together rather than separately.

Fix the hour first, then the tutor

For a Merashid household the sequence that works is unglamorous. Measure the real arrival time for a week. Get the syllabus code, the tier and the homework nights from the school. Book the slot thirty minutes after the latest arrival, and run the free trial lesson in that exact slot rather than a convenient one. Ask the exams officer for the entry deadline, the mock window and the timetable zone in September. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, shifting later during Ramadan by agreement. Nobody is sent to a Merashid address, and no school rating is quoted anywhere on this page.
