IB IGCSE Online Tutor in the UAE

Hiring an IB IGCSE online tutor in the UAE means working inside two examination rulebooks and one regulatory system at the same time. A Year 11 child sits Cambridge or Pearson papers in a zone-specific timetable window. A Year 13 sibling sits the IB May session. Both timetables sit under a school licensed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ras Al Khaimah Department of Knowledge or the federal Ministry of Education, and both carry the same three Ministry subjects. Every lesson we arrange for a UAE family runs one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time
  • One free 45-minute trial lesson per student, before any payment
  • Tutors confirm their MoHRE private tuition work permit status before teaching
  • Teaching and feedback only; assessed work stays the student's own

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

Two boards in one house, under one set of UAE rules

Most UAE families who search for an online IB and IGCSE tuition arrangement are not shopping for one subject. They have a Year 10 or Year 11 child working through Cambridge 0580 Extended Maths and 0625 Physics, and an older sibling eighteen months into the Diploma with an Internal Assessment due. The two children sit different papers, on different calendars, marked by different organisations, with different honesty rules attached. What they share is the school, the emirate, and the authority that licensed both. That shared layer is where most of the confusion lives, and it is the part almost nobody writes about.

The regulatory layer is not decoration. The authority that licensed your child's school approves its curriculum and, in several emirates, its fees. It requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral studies on the timetable no matter which international curriculum the school is licensed for. It sets the language each of those subjects must be taught in and forbids combined classes for Arab and non-Arab groups. Separately, the federal government regulates the tutor you are about to hire: private tutoring in the UAE runs on a MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023.

Then there is the Ministry of Education equivalency file, which decides whether the certificate your child finishes with is recognised in the UAE. For the British track the published rule is specific: five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one A Level at E or two AS Levels at the same grade. One page currently ranking for these queries tells UAE parents they need six IGCSE subjects. That is the wrong number, and a family that plans around it wastes a year of subject choices.

For the IB Diploma we publish no equivalency figure at all. The Ministry's own guidance is the only source worth planning from, and we have not read an IB points threshold on it. The honest answer is to describe the process, name the authority and send you to moe.gov.ae and your school's IB coordinator. Three competitor pages in this market handle the same gap by inventing a number. A family that acts on an invented threshold finds out at attestation, which is the worst possible moment to find out anything.

This page is built around that regulatory and school-system context, because it is the part of the decision a parent cannot delegate. The subject teaching we can do. Choosing between Maths AA and AI, closing the gap between 0625 and DP Physics, reading a mark scheme properly, keeping an exploration honest while it improves — those are tutoring problems with tutoring answers. Knowing which authority to escalate to, which three subjects are already paid for inside the school week, and which certificate the attestation office will accept is different work, and it is yours. Here is what we know, with the sources attached.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three programmes cover almost every dual-board UAE household: an International GCSE course in Years 10 and 11, the MYP where a school runs the IB continuum, and the Diploma in Years 12 and 13. The notes below say what each means inside the UAE school system specifically.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson International GCSE

Two separate boards offering the same qualification level with different papers, codes and tiering. Cambridge splits many subjects into Core and Extended, with Extended carrying the full grade range. Pearson's International GCSE uses single-tier papers in most subjects under codes such as 4MA1 and 4PH1. A school is licensed for one board per subject, sometimes mixing boards across the subject list, so the first job of any tutor is to confirm which code your child is entered for.

Across the UAE the British curriculum is the largest single stream in Dubai's private sector, and most of those schools run International GCSE in Years 10 and 11. The emirate's regulator approves the curriculum the school is licensed to teach, which is why a tutor cannot substitute a different syllabus for the one the school entered your child under.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

The IB's middle-school programme, assessed against four criteria per subject lettered A to D, each marked out of 8. There are no external papers unless a school opts into eAssessment. Marks come from the school, which means an MYP report tells you about the teacher's judgement against published descriptors rather than about an examiner's. Families moving from MYP into the Diploma often find the step in formal technique sharper than the step in content.

A UAE school running the full IB continuum will have MYP and Diploma under the same licence from the same emirate authority. Where a family moves from an MYP school to an International GCSE school mid-stage, the receiving school decides the entry point, and the regulator has no role in that judgement.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects across three Higher Level and three Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Each subject carries an internally assessed component marked by the teacher and moderated externally. The written papers are sat in the session the school enters candidates for. The Diploma's honesty rules are stricter and more explicit than the International GCSE's, which matters a great deal when one tutor supports both children in a household.

The International Baccalaureate accounts for a small but growing share of Dubai's private school enrolment, and the emirate's 2026-27 intake adds three new IB schools among seven new openings. More Diploma places locally does not automatically mean more Diploma subject specialists locally, which is the supply problem online delivery exists to solve.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

Diploma subjects first, with the component that decides most grades named. Where a UAE family is running both boards at once, read this grid against the International GCSE grid below it: the gap between the two is the thing a tutor is actually paid to close.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The route most engineering and economics courses expect. HL adds proof by induction, complex numbers and a far heavier calculus load. Marks go missing in the unstructured Paper 2 questions where a candidate knows the method but never writes the working the mark scheme pays for.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics-led, with graphical display calculator technique running through every paper. SL suits social sciences and most business degrees. Check the published entry requirements of the universities on your child's list before switching from AA, because a few named courses still specify Analysis and Approaches.

Physics

HL and SL

Uncertainty treatment separates a 5 from a 7 more often than content does. The internally assessed investigation rewards a tight research question and honest error analysis. Students arriving from Cambridge 0625 are usually fluent algebraically and unpractised at propagating uncertainty through a calculation.

Chemistry

HL and SL

The data booklet is examined, not merely allowed: candidates who have not drilled finding values under time pressure lose marks they knew. HL organic mechanism and the equilibrium maths around Kc and Ka are the two topics that most often need dedicated hours rather than general revision.

Biology

HL and SL

Command terms decide the mark. 'Outline', 'explain' and 'evaluate' pay for different things, and a strong recall answer written against the wrong command term still scores poorly. The statistical element — standard deviation, error bars, reading a t-test — catches students who were never taught it at International GCSE.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is unseen non-literary analysis, which is a different skill from the literature essays most students practise. The learner portfolio is where the habits form. Students from 0500 First Language English usually write well and under-read the guiding question.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy carries marks that prose cannot recover, and the evaluation sentences at the end of a 15-mark answer are where most of the gap between grades sits. The internally assessed commentaries need a real news article and a specific syllabus link, chosen early rather than hunted for in week eleven.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tool-driven: Ansoff, BCG, break-even, cash-flow forecasting. The HL-only extension and the pre-released case study for Paper 1 both reward systematic preparation. Students often arrive from 0450 Business Studies expecting the same answer structure and find the application demand noticeably higher.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Pseudocode conventions are examined precisely, and the HL abstract data structures section is the usual stumbling block. The internally assessed solution needs a real client and a documented development process, which is a project-management problem as much as a programming one.

Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay and CAS

Core, all candidates

The Extended Essay and the TOK essay together carry up to three points towards the Diploma total. Both are supervised in school and both are governed by the IB's academic honesty rules, so a tutor's role is to coach the research question, test the examples and give feedback on the student's own drafting.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

The International GCSE grid, with syllabus codes. Cambridge codes begin with a zero; Pearson Edexcel codes begin with a four. Confirm the code on your child's entry form rather than the name on the textbook, because several subjects exist in both boards' catalogues under near-identical titles.

Mathematics (0580 Extended, 0607 International, 4MA1)

Core and Extended tiers

The tier decision sets the grade ceiling, and it is made by the school. Extended covers the algebra, functions and trigonometry a Diploma Maths course assumes. A child sitting Core who intends to take Maths AA at Higher Level has a real gap to close, and closing it after Year 11 takes longer than closing it during.

Physics (0625, 4PH1)

Core and Extended, or single tier at Pearson

Formula recall and unit discipline carry the paper. The practical paper or alternative-to-practical rewards method description more than apparatus knowledge. Students who can rearrange equations quickly tend to finish; those who cannot lose marks to time rather than to understanding.

Chemistry (0620, 4CH1)

Core and Extended, or single tier at Pearson

Mole calculations at speed and the qualitative analysis tables are the two places marks are routinely available and routinely missed. Organic chemistry is treated descriptively here, which is why the jump to Diploma mechanism work surprises strong candidates.

Biology (0610, 4BI1)

Core and Extended, or single tier at Pearson

Content-heavy and recall-rewarding, so structured retrieval practice beats re-reading. Diagram labelling and the experimental-design questions are the two components that most often need teaching rather than revising. Students who score well here still need statistics taught before the Diploma.

English (0500, 0511, 4EA1)

First Language and Second Language routes

0500 First Language English and 0511 English as a Second Language are different qualifications with different ceilings, and the school decides which a child is entered for. If the Diploma plan involves English A rather than English B, the First Language route is the one that lines up.

Economics and Business Studies (0455, 0450)

Single tier

Definition precision pays at this level in a way it stops paying at Diploma, where application and evaluation take over. Both subjects reward learning the command words and answering the one that was asked. They are useful but not required groundwork for the Diploma equivalents.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways a dual-board household usually buys hours. All three run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with the session recorded in a shared document rather than in a notebook that gets left at school.

Weekly one-to-one, per child per subject

The default. One fixed slot a week for each subject that needs it, with the tutor working from the syllabus code your child is entered for. Two children on two boards means two independent schedules, which is straightforward over video and genuinely awkward with a visiting tutor who has to be in one place at a time.

  • Fixed weekly slot, moved by agreement when school commitments collide
  • Tutor matched to the code: 0580 Extended, 4MA1, Maths AA HL
  • Shared annotated past-paper document after every session
  • One free 45-minute trial lesson per student before you commit

Transition block, Year 11 into DP1

A short, finite set of sessions built around the specific gap between the International GCSE your child has just sat and the Diploma course they are about to start. Scoped per subject, usually run across the summer or the first term, and designed to end rather than to continue indefinitely.

  • Diagnostic first session against the DP1 entry expectations
  • Written gap list you keep, subject by subject
  • Typically 4-12 sessions depending on the subject
  • Ends when the gap closes, not when a package expires

Coursework and Internal Assessment supervision

Scheduled feedback on the student's own work, with the boundary stated in writing before the first session. The tutor teaches the criteria, questions the method and comments on drafts the student has written. The student writes, the school supervises, and the declaration is the student's to sign.

  • Criteria taught by letter, with the marks attached to each
  • Feedback on the student's own drafts, never supplied text
  • Deadlines tracked against the school's internal dates
  • Nothing produced that the student did not write

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What a dual-board search is really asking

  • Confirm the syllabus code before the first lesson, not the subject name
  • Two children on two boards need two schedules, not one shared slot
  • The school decides tier and board; the Ministry decides recognition
  • The tutor's permit is a federal matter, separate from the school's licence

An IB IGCSE online tutor in the UAE is a tutor who can teach to two separate examination specifications and knows which one is in front of them. That is the literal answer. The practical answer is narrower: a Cambridge 0625 Physics paper and an IB Physics HL paper test overlapping content with different conventions, different command vocabulary and completely different internal assessment, so a tutor who is fluent in one is not automatically useful in the other.

Families usually arrive at this search for one of three reasons. The first is two children at different stages in the same house, which is a scheduling problem more than a teaching one. The second is one child crossing from International GCSE into the Diploma, which is a genuine content and technique problem. The third is a family that has moved emirate or country mid-stage and is not yet sure which board their child will finish under.

Each of those needs a different answer, and the regulatory layer runs underneath all three. The school's licence decides which syllabus is taught. The emirate authority approves that licence and the fees. The federal Ministry decides which certificate is recognised afterwards. The tutor you hire sits under a federal work permit. None of that changes the maths, and all of it changes the plan — which is why this page spends its first half on the system and its second half on the teaching. A parent who understands the system can ask a tutor better questions, and a tutor who understands it stops giving advice that only makes sense in another country.

02

The regulator map, read from a dual-board family's side of the table

Five bodies regulate private schools in the UAE, and the complete map is published on u.ae. Dubai sits with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain sit with the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah the Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah fall under the federal Ministry of Education.

The reach is wider than inspection. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. That means the assessment route your child follows was approved by the emirate, not chosen freely by the school. If you are deciding between two schools that both advertise the Diploma, the question worth asking is which programmes each is actually licensed to run and at what stage, because a licence to teach IB MYP is not a licence to examine the Diploma.

For a dual-board household this matters twice over. A school licensed for International GCSE in Years 10 and 11 and the Diploma in Years 12 and 13 holds both under the same emirate licence, which is why the handover inside that school is an internal matter with no regulator to appeal to. A family splitting two children across two schools in two emirates is dealing with two authorities, two fee-approval regimes and two sets of inspection reports, and should expect the escalation routes to differ.

Year 11 to DP1: the handover nobody schedules

The single most useful thing a tutor does for a dual-board UAE family is close the gap between the International GCSE a child has just finished and the Diploma course they start in September. Schools handle the administrative side of that handover well and the technical side unevenly, largely because the summer sits in the middle of it and nobody owns the six weeks in between.

The gap is not mainly content. A student who scored well at 0580 Extended knows the algebra that Maths AA assumes; what they have usually never met is the expectation that working is written for a mark scheme rather than for an answer. In the sciences the gap is methodological: 0625 does not ask a candidate to propagate uncertainty through a calculation, and DP Physics does, on almost every internally assessed investigation. In Biology the missing piece is statistics, which barely features at International GCSE and appears in the Diploma from the first term.

Scoping that properly takes a diagnostic rather than a sales conversation. The table below is the version we work from, with the subjects UAE families most often raise and an honest estimate of the hours involved. Treat the week counts as a planning figure for a weekly one-hour session, not a promise about any individual student, and expect a strong candidate to need fewer and a tier-switching candidate to need more. The diagnostic session exists to replace that estimate with something specific to your child, and the output of it is a written list of gaps you keep rather than a recommendation to buy a package.

Two boards, two calendars, and the zone number on your timetable

A dual-board household runs on two unrelated clocks. Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE papers are available in May/June and November each year. The IB session UAE schools sit is May. Three separate calendars, three separate sets of deadlines, and only one of them is likely to be pinned to your kitchen wall.

The detail most families have never been told is that every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone. Cambridge also states that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after the wrong zone timetable was used. A UK cousin's timetable is not your child's timetable, and a screenshot from a revision group is not a source.

Entry deadlines sit months before the papers, which is the fact that changes behaviour. For a UAE candidate the Cambridge series that exist are June and November. The February and March sitting is offered in India and is not a route a Dubai or Abu Dhabi centre can enter a child for, and the March, May and October dates attached to Checkpoint belong to Primary and Lower Secondary year groups rather than to IGCSE. Cambridge publishes the closing dates for each series rather than one annual rule, and allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones with its own timetable version, so both the window and the entry deadline that apply to your child come from the centre and not from a tutoring page. Pearson's picture is firmer in print: its International GCSE November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, months after the entry for it had to be lodged. On the IB side we publish no dates at all: ibo.org blocks automated checking, so every IB session, upload and results date on this page is left to your school's IB coordinator to confirm, and that is a deliberate choice rather than an omission.

The three Ministry subjects running under both licences

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral studies are compulsory in Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and the federal position is the same: private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. These subjects sit on your child's timetable whether that timetable leads to a Cambridge certificate or a Diploma, and they are already inside the fee you pay.

The rules about how they run are unusually specific, and worth reading before you buy any Arabic hours. Schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies; combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language. For non-Arab students, Islamic Education and Moral, Social and Cultural studies are taught in the school's licensed-curriculum language.

Two practical consequences follow. First, instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the total weekly time is met, and it is advised that any mandatory subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes — so a timetable that squeezes these subjects into fragments is doing something the guidance discourages. Second, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry is strictly prohibited, which means a tutor cannot hand your child a better Arabic syllabus. A tutor can teach the material the school is required to use, and nothing beyond it.

Who the law permits to tutor, and how you check

Private tutoring in the UAE is a permitted activity, not an unregulated one. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and the eligible categories are wide: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws.

No fine schedule has been published. Khaleej Times reported that the ministry did not specify the fine amounts or detail the penalties, so a figure circulating online as a fixed maximum is not something any page should be quoting, including this one. The application route is MoHRE's own service, listed as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with no fee shown and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

One category deserves a direct warning rather than a table row. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. If someone offers you your child's own classroom teacher privately, the correct answer is no. It is a bad deal for the teacher and a worse one for your child, and the conflict of interest is the reason the rule exists. Verify this against the current ADEK policy document before relying on the exact wording.

Two equivalency files, and the number we will not print

Equivalency is the process that makes a school-leaving certificate usable in the UAE, and a dual-board family may end up with two different files. For the British track the published requirements are specific. A student must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and must submit proof of one accredited subject at the Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at the Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade.

Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects for the GCSE and IGCSE count. That exclusion is the detail that changes subject choices in Year 9, because a child counting Arabic towards the five arrives at attestation one subject short. A competitor page currently ranking for these queries states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects. The published rule is five, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, and that difference is worth more to your family than any marketing claim on this page.

For the American track, English proficiency requires a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT test, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the IB Diploma we publish nothing, because no IB points threshold has been read on the Ministry's own pages. Equivalency is also not a process IB Gram performs, influences or speeds up, and tutoring is not a requirement for it. Describe, cite, and point you to the official channel: that is the whole of our role here.

What an inspection band does not tell you about one programme

Inspection reports are the most-read and least-understood document in UAE school choice. A band describes the provision the inspectors examined across the school, at the phases they visited, against the framework in use. It does not resolve into a verdict on a single subject at a single level, and for a dual-board family that is exactly the question being asked. A report cannot tell you whether the Chemistry HL teaching in the sixth form is strong, because that is not the unit of judgement.

Read the report for the things it does cover well. The phase-by-phase breakdown shows whether secondary provision tracks the headline. The attainment and progress lines are reported against curriculum standards, which tells you what the school is measured on. The teaching and assessment judgements say something real about marking consistency, which is the single thing that most affects an internally assessed component. And the recommendations section tells you what the school has been asked to fix, which is the most honest page in the document.

Then read it against the emirate. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so a report there sits inside a wider approval regime than inspection alone. In the three emirates supervised federally, the Ministry's general regulations are the baseline. Quote only the rating published on the regulator's own site, and never a rating repeated on a listings page. The one competitor school table we found that includes a rating column ships it empty on every row, which is at least honest.

What the UAE market charges for an IB or IGCSE hour

Three of the six ranking pages in this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote US dollars, which is not a currency UAE families transact in. The figures below are market rates read from competitor pages and from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table in October 2026. They are the market, not an IB Gram price list. For our own numbers the honest route is the free trial lesson and a conversation about what your child actually needs.

The spread is the useful information. The same hour of IGCSE Maths is sold at AED 45 and at AED 650 in this market, and the difference is not always quality. It is often format, travel and who is carrying the risk of a replacement if the tutor leaves. A rate at the bottom of the range usually means a university student teaching from the textbook. A rate at the top usually means a named individual with a long waiting list. The middle band is where most qualified subject teaching sits.

Put it against the school fee for context. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package. A fee freeze is the right moment to look hard at what tutoring is adding, because it is the one line in the education budget that did not move on its own.

A tutor at a UAE address against live one-to-one video

This is the comparison the search usually hides. Many UAE families start by looking for someone to teach in the living room, and the honest version of that decision has four parts: what it costs, what the travel does to the hour, how wide a pool you can choose from, and whether the schedule survives a school run. IB Gram's answer is settled and we would rather say it plainly than bury it. Every UAE lesson we arrange is one-to-one over live video. Visits to a student's address are a service we offer only in India.

The reason is the specialist pool, not the technology. A family in Fujairah or Umm Al Quwain searching within driving distance may find one Diploma Chemistry tutor, or none. The same family searching for a tutor who can teach on Gulf Standard Time is choosing from everyone qualified to teach that paper. For a dual-board household the effect compounds: a 0625 Physics specialist for the Year 11 and a Maths AA HL specialist for the Year 13, in the same week, without either lesson depending on traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road.

The things a visiting tutor genuinely does better are worth naming. Presence in the room helps a younger or more distractible student. Practical apparatus cannot be shared over a screen. A parent can see the lesson happening. Against that, the market rate is higher because travel is priced in, the hour is often shorter than the slot, and the choice is limited to whoever will drive to your community. Read the table and decide; we are not pretending the trade is one-sided.

Academic honesty under two rulebooks

A dual-board household has two honesty regimes to respect, and they are not identical. The Diploma's rules around the Internal Assessment, the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay are explicit and enforced through the school's declaration process. The International GCSE's coursework and practical requirements are administered by the examination centre under the board's own rules. Both end in the same place: the work submitted must be the student's, and a paid tutor who crosses that line puts the candidate's entry at risk, not their own.

The boundary is easy to state and worth stating in writing before the first session. A tutor may teach the criteria, explain what each letter is worth, question a method, point at a weakness in a paragraph the student wrote, and keep the student honest about deadlines. A tutor may not supply text, rewrite a section, source an argument, or hand over anything the student did not produce. One page ranking in this market sells finished Internal Assessments at a published price. That is a malpractice trigger for the student and the reason we gate this boundary rather than merely describe it.

The same logic covers board material. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables and subject guides belong to the IB, Cambridge and Pearson. A tutor should reference them and link the board's own page, and should not reproduce or redistribute them. If a tutor offers you a private library of mark schemes, that tells you something about how they work. We link; we do not supply.

Where we tutor

Every emirate, and the authority above it

Where you live decides which authority sits above your child's school, where a complaint goes and who approved the fees you pay. The three smallest emirates are named by none of the competitor pages we examined, which is a strange gap given that families live there and sit the same papers.

Dubai

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority oversees the quality of private education in the emirate. The 2024-25 sector held 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 different curricula, so the board your child sits is rarely the only one on the street.

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

The Department of Education and Knowledge supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools here. Its professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff bar teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in the emirate and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. That approval reach is wider than inspection alone, and worth knowing before you query a fee.

Ajman

Private schools in Ajman are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education rather than an emirate-level authority. Escalation is therefore a federal route, and the Ministry's general regulations are the baseline your child's school works to.

Ras Al Khaimah

The Department of Knowledge regulates private education in the emirate and, like Sharjah's authority, approves fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Very little is written about it online, which makes its own listing the source to use.

Fujairah

Supervised by the federal Ministry of Education. Families here sit the same Cambridge, Pearson and IB papers as families in Dubai, with a far shorter local list of subject specialists to draw on — which is precisely what live video delivery is for.

Umm Al Quwain

Also under federal Ministry of Education supervision. The smallest private-school market in the country, and the clearest case for teaching over video: a single Diploma Chemistry HL candidate here should not be limited to whoever happens to live nearby.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai — British and IB streams

Students we support in Dubai attend schools across both streams, and several of these run International GCSE in Years 10 and 11 before a sixth form that offers the Diploma, A Levels or both. That handover inside one school is where the dual-board question usually starts.

Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Sharjah

Outside Dubai the specialist pool thins quickly, especially for Higher Level sciences and the two Maths routes. Students we support in these emirates are taught by the same tutors as students in Dubai, because the lesson travels over video rather than over Sheikh Zayed Road.

IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any school, school group, examination board or UAE authority named on this page; schools are listed as context for the system families work inside.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the codes, not just the subjects

The first message that actually helps names the syllabus code for each child: 0580 Extended, 4PH1, Maths AA HL. Add the emirate and the school, because the authority above it tells us which calendar and which mandatory-subject rules you are working inside. Two children means two separate matches, and we will treat them separately from the start.

  2. 02

    A diagnostic before a schedule

Each student gets one free 45-minute trial lesson, built around a past paper or a draft they bring. The tutor reports back on what is actually missing rather than on what the parent described. For a Year 11 heading into DP1 this is where the transition gap list comes from, subject by subject.

  3. 03

    Confirm the tutor's permit position

Before teaching begins, tutors confirm their MoHRE private tuition work permit status and, where they teach in a UAE school, that your child is not enrolled there. ADEK's ethics rules and the permit's code of conduct both bar that arrangement, so we would rather lose a match than build one on it.

  4. 04

Fix the slots around the two calendars

One weekly slot per subject per child, on Gulf Standard Time, set against the school's internal coursework deadlines and the board's published entry dates. Sessions move by agreement when mocks, trips or Ramadan timing require it, including post-Iftar slots. Every session leaves an annotated document behind.

  5. 05

Review at the end of each term

We look at whether the hours are still earning their place. A transition block should end when the gap closes. A subject that has stabilised should drop to fortnightly or stop. The default in this market is to keep selling hours; the useful thing is to tell you when to stop buying them.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

One tutor list, two specifications

Tutors name the codes they teach from, so a Cambridge 0620 candidate and a DP Chemistry HL candidate are matched to people who know the difference between descriptive organic chemistry and mechanism. The overlap between the boards is real but partial, and pretending otherwise is how a household ends up with one tutor doing half a job twice.

The regulatory detail written down, with sources

The regulator map, the permit rules, the mandatory-subject requirements and the equivalency thresholds on this page each carry the authority they came from. Where a figure has not been verified, this page says so and leaves the gap visible. That is a slower read than a confident number, and it is the only version worth planning around.

Online because the specialists are not local

Lessons run one-to-one over live video, which is how a family in Al Ain or Fujairah gets the same Higher Level specialist as a family in Jumeirah. It also means the hour you pay for is an hour of teaching rather than part of a commute. Visits to a student's address are offered only in India.

A stated line on assessed work

Teaching, criteria coaching and feedback on the student's own drafts. Nothing produced that the student did not write. The boundary goes in writing before the first coursework session, for both the Diploma components and International GCSE coursework, because the risk of crossing it lands on the candidate and not on the tutor.

No accreditation we do not hold

IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform. It is not approved, accredited or endorsed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, holds no UAE premises, and publishes no star rating it cannot evidence. The regulators are named on this page to explain the system, never to borrow their authority.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

My daughter sits IGCSEs this year and her brother starts the IB Diploma next year — can one tutor cover both?+

Sometimes, within one subject, and it depends on the person rather than the subject. A Chemistry teacher who has taught both Cambridge 0620 and DP Chemistry knows that the organic chemistry at International GCSE is descriptive and the Diploma expects mechanism, and will teach them as two different courses. A tutor fluent in only one specification tends to import the wrong conventions, which costs marks in ways that look like carelessness. Across subjects you need separate matches. We would rather give you two tutors who each know one paper properly than one who is stretched across two.

Which UAE authority licenses a school that teaches both IGCSE and the IB Diploma?+

The authority for the emirate the school sits in, and it covers both programmes under the same licence. In Dubai that is the Knowledge and Human Development Authority. In Abu Dhabi and Al Ain it is the Department of Education and Knowledge. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah the Department of Knowledge, and schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education. Because one licence covers both programmes, the handover from Year 11 into Year 12 inside a single school is an internal matter with no regulator to appeal to.

Our school keeps mentioning an exam zone — what is that and why does it matter?+

Cambridge allocates every examination centre to one of six administrative zones, and each zone has its own version of the timetable. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after the wrong zone timetable was used. In practice that means a timetable shared by a cousin abroad, or a screenshot circulating in a parents' group, is not a usable source. Ask the school's examinations officer which zone the centre is in and work from the timetable they give you.

Do the three Ministry subjects count towards my child's IGCSE or IB results?+

They are separate requirements, and they sit on the timetable regardless of the international curriculum the school is licensed to teach. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral studies are compulsory in Dubai private schools whichever curriculum is licensed, and the federal rule says private schools must cover Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies. For Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, Arabic and Islamic education are specifically not counted among the five required GCSE or IGCSE subjects. So they are required at school and excluded from that count, which catches families by surprise.

How do I check that an online IB and IGCSE tutor holds a UAE private tuition permit?+

Ask directly, and ask what is written on it. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system under the service Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing. Check that the name on the permit record matches the name on the tutor's Emirates ID, and if the tutor teaches in a UAE school, check which school is named. A tutor who will not discuss the permit has told you something.

My son's school is rated Outstanding — does that rating cover its IB Diploma teaching specifically?+

No. An inspection band describes the provision inspectors examined across the school at the phases they visited, against the framework in use. It does not resolve into a judgement on one subject at one level, which is usually the question a parent is really asking. Read the phase-by-phase breakdown to see whether secondary provision tracks the headline, read the teaching and assessment judgements for what they say about marking consistency, and read the recommendations, which name what the school has been asked to fix. Quote ratings only from the regulator's own site.

Does the Ministry of Education count IGCSE Arabic towards the five subjects it requires?+

It does not. The published equivalency requirement for the British track is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic education are not included among those five. A student counting Arabic towards the total arrives one subject short. One page currently ranking for these searches tells UAE parents they need six IGCSE subjects; the published rule is five, excluding those two. Verify the current wording on moe.gov.ae before locking in Year 10 choices, because subject selection is hard to reverse later.

We are moving from Sharjah to Abu Dhabi mid-year — does the change of regulator affect anything for us?+

It changes who sits above the school and where a query goes. In Sharjah the Private Education Authority regulates private education and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. In Abu Dhabi the Department of Education and Knowledge supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools, and its professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid private tutoring of their own enrolled students. The examination board your child sits does not change with the emirate, but the fee-approval regime, the inspection framework and the escalation route all do. Ask the receiving school which entry point it is placing your child at.

Can my child's own schoolteacher tutor him privately in Abu Dhabi?+

No, and you should decline the offer if it is made. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and teachers tutoring outside school hours must hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, whose code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with their own school. The conflict of interest is the point: the person teaching the class should not be paid separately to teach the same child the same content. Verify the current wording against ADEK's own policy document, which is the authoritative source.

What may a tutor do with an IGCSE coursework draft that they may not do with an IB Internal Assessment?+

Less than you might think, because both regimes end in the same requirement: the submitted work is the student's. For either, a tutor may teach the criteria, explain the marks attached to each, question a method and give feedback on a draft the student wrote. For neither may a tutor supply text, rewrite a section or hand over a finished piece. The practical difference is procedural. Diploma components run through the school's declaration and supervisor process, while International GCSE coursework and practical work are administered by the examination centre under the board's rules.

How many IGCSE subjects should my child take if the IB Diploma is the plan?+

Two separate questions sit inside that one. For Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3 are required, excluding Arabic and Islamic education. For Diploma readiness, the subject list matters more than the count: a student intending Maths AA at Higher Level needs the Extended tier rather than Core, and a student heading for English A is better served by First Language English than by English as a Second Language. Decide the Diploma shape first, then count backwards.

Is there a UAE rule about how long a tutoring session should be?+

Not for private tutoring, but there is published guidance for the mandatory school subjects, and it is a useful reference point. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority calculates mandatory-subject instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit, allows schools to vary lesson length provided the total weekly time is met, and advises that any mandatory subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes. For one-to-one online teaching, 60 minutes suits most secondary subjects and 45 minutes suits younger students or a focused Internal Assessment review. Longer blocks work for timed-paper practice and poorly for new content.

What happens to our lessons during Ramadan?+

School hours shorten, family routines shift, and evening availability changes rather than disappears. Sessions move by agreement, including to post-Iftar slots, and the rate does not change because the slot does. The planning point matters more than the timing: Ramadan often falls in the run-up to the spring and early-summer examination windows, so a revision plan built in January that ignores it will be rewritten in a hurry. Count the available weeks before the series your child is entered for, place the mock-review sessions outside Ramadan where possible, and keep the lighter consolidation work inside it.

No tutor covers the exact board and subject combination we need — what then?+

We tell you, rather than filling the slot with someone approximately qualified. For a niche combination — a Pearson 4CH1 candidate needing Higher Level-style extension work, or a Diploma subject with few UAE teachers — the match may take longer, or the available specialist may be based outside the UAE and teaching on Gulf Standard Time. Both are disclosed before you book. No competitor page we examined states a coverage limit at all, and several route UAE families to a non-UAE number without saying so, which is the version of this answer we are trying not to give.

Can you send us past papers and mark schemes for 0580 and the Diploma?+

No. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables and subject guides belong to Cambridge, Pearson and the IB. A tutor should reference them and link the board's own page, and reproducing or redistributing them is copyright infringement, with an added malpractice exposure for anything unreleased. In a session a tutor works through a paper with your child and leaves an annotated shared document behind. If a tutor offers you a private library of mark schemes, treat that as information about how they operate rather than as a benefit.

Do IB and IGCSE students in the UAE get their results on the same day?+

No, and the gap between them can be weeks. Pearson's June 2026 International GCSE results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and the November 2025 series reached students on 22 January 2026. Cambridge publishes results on Direct in the August that follows a June series and in the January after a November one, with certificates issued after that. For the IB we publish no date at all: ibo.org blocks automated checking, so the session and results dates for your child's cohort should come from the school's IB coordinator and nowhere else.

Start with the codes and the emirate

Send us the syllabus code for each child, the school and the emirate. From that we can say which calendar you are working to, which mandatory subjects are already inside the school week, and which specialist fits the paper your child actually sits. Each student gets one free 45-minute trial lesson built around a past paper or a draft they bring, before any payment. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. If nobody on our list covers your combination, we will say so rather than fill the slot, and we will tell you what the wait looks like.
