IB IGCSE Tutor near me in Merashid

What a parent searching for an IB IGCSE tutor near me in Merashid usually means is simpler and harder than distance: is there anybody who actually knows this syllabus? This page is about answering that. Twelve questions that separate a specialist from a pleasant generalist, the checks you can genuinely make, the market's common overclaims, and what to do when the honest answer is nobody locally.

  • Twelve verification questions you can ask in a single trial lesson
  • The permit check is free, specific and takes one question
  • Coverage stated plainly when no specialist is available
  • No regulator or board accreditation is claimed anywhere on this site

IB & IGCSE in Merashid

The real question is competence, not proximity

Nobody types a near-me search because they want a short drive. They type it because they want somebody real, somebody accountable, somebody who knows the thing their child is sitting. Distance is a proxy for all of that, and in a market like Fujairah's it is a bad proxy, because the small size of the private-school sector means the nearest available adult is often the least likely to have taught Higher Level Chemistry or Extended-tier Economics. Merashid families discover this quickly and then have no second filter to fall back on.

This page supplies the second filter. Not credentials in the abstract, which are easy to assert and hard to check, but specific questions whose answers cannot be faked by somebody who has not taught the course. A tutor who has marked a Cambridge Extended paper can tell you in one sentence where candidates lose marks on it. A tutor who has supervised an Internal Assessment can name the criteria and the word cap without looking. A tutor who has not can only talk about potential, enthusiasm and results in general terms, and both kinds of person sound equally reassuring on a phone call.

That matters more here than it would in a larger market, and it matters for an uncomfortable reason. The competitor pages researched for this search include real liabilities: self-published star ratings, statistics with no sample or method, pages claiming a regulator relationship that cannot exist, and one page selling completed Internal Assessment work outright. A Merashid parent working through a shortlist is not only choosing between competent and less competent. They are also filtering out claims that should not be on a page at all.

IB Gram's own position belongs in the same paragraph as that warning rather than after it. Lessons for Merashid students are delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home visits exist only in India. It is not approved, accredited, licensed or partnered by the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge International, Pearson, the Ministry of Education, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, the Department of Education and Knowledge, the Sharjah Private Education Authority or the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, it runs no UAE premises, and nothing on this site claims otherwise.

Use what follows on us as well as on everyone else. The twelve questions work in any trial lesson. The permit check takes one question and costs nothing. The red flags are observable from a page without speaking to anybody. And the coverage section says plainly what happens when the honest answer to a Merashid request is that no specialist is free, which is a sentence no page researched in this market contains.

At a glance

  • A specialist answers a specification question in one sentence; a generalist cannot
  • The private tuition work permit is free, lasts two years and can be asked for
  • Self-published star ratings and unsourced statistics are market red flags
  • No page researched in this market discloses what happens when nobody is available
  • Lessons to Merashid run online, one-to-one, over live video
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Verification differs by programme, because what a tutor needs to know differs. Three programmes cover almost every Merashid enquiry, and each has its own set of questions that cannot be bluffed.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

International GCSE

Assessed by terminal paper, with tiering and in the sciences a board-dependent practical arrangement. A tutor who knows the course can state the syllabus code, the papers, the component weightings and whether a practical exam exists, without reference to anything.

The decisive question for a Merashid family is which board. Cambridge sciences carry a practical component worth twenty per cent, sat as a practical test or an alternative-to-practical paper; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences have no separate practical exam. A tutor who does not ask you which board before the first lesson has told you something already.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS, scored out of 45 with 24 as the diploma minimum. Internal assessment carries weight in every subject, which means every Diploma tutor must know criteria and word caps rather than content alone.

Local Diploma capacity in Fujairah is limited, so a Merashid student on this route is often at a school in another emirate or boarding. The verification question that separates real Diploma experience from adjacent experience is about the core: ask what the Theory of Knowledge exhibition commentary limit is, and why research design cannot be fixed after data collection.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Four criteria per subject, each marked out of eight and converted to a 1-7 grade, with a Personal Project in the final year marked out of 24 across planning, applying skills and reflecting. Terminal papers do not exist in the earlier years.

This is the programme most often misunderstood by tutors whose experience is examination-based, because there is no paper to practise. The test question is to ask what the four criteria are in the subject concerned. A tutor who treats the Middle Years Programme as a junior Diploma will teach content where the marks are being lost on communication.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

For each subject, the single question a parent can ask that reveals whether the tutor has taught it. None of these can be answered convincingly by somebody who has only taught the subject in general.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Ask what Paper 3 is and what it is worth. The answer is the Higher Level extended-response problem paper at twenty per cent, usually reached last by schools and therefore the least practised component in the Diploma. A tutor who has not taught the course will not volunteer that.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Ask how it differs from Analysis and Approaches in what the examiner wants, not in content. The answer involves interpretation written in context and calculator technique being examinable in itself, which is a different skill from getting the right number.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Ask what the Internal Assessment is marked on and what the word cap is. Four criteria at six marks each — research design, data analysis, conclusion, evaluation — and 3,000 words. Then ask which of the four cannot be repaired after data collection.

Physics

HL and SL

Ask what sits in Paper 1 besides multiple choice. The answer is a data-analysis section, and the follow-up is that Paper 1 carries thirty-six per cent against Paper 2's forty-four. A tutor who thinks Paper 1 is purely multiple choice is working from an older guide.

Biology

HL and SL

Ask the difference between describe and explain in a mark scheme and what it costs. A specialist gives an example from a paper. This is the highest-volume avoidable loss in the subject and the quickest thing to fix, so a tutor who does not mention it has not marked much.

Economics

HL and SL

Ask what the portfolio consists of and the word limit per piece. Three commentaries of no more than 800 words each, on real published articles. Then ask what separates a judgement from a two-sided list in an evaluate question.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Ask what the Individual Oral requires and what it is worth. A global issue traced through two texts, at thirty per cent at Standard Level. Then ask what the HL Essay adds and at what weighting, which is twenty per cent.

Business Management

HL and SL

Ask about the pre-released case and when work on it should start. The answer is months ahead rather than weeks, because the case can be analysed before the paper is written. A tutor unfamiliar with it will treat the Higher Level paper as another unseen.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Ask what the solution-development Internal Assessment assesses besides the working product. Documentation and evidence of a design process, which is exactly where strong programmers lose marks. A tutor who is a developer rather than a teacher often misses this.

Environmental Systems and Societies

SL and HL

Ask why students who choose it as a lighter option find it demanding. The answer combines scientific data handling with evaluative writing about human systems, which is two skill sets rather than a reduced version of one.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

The same approach on the IGCSE side: one question per subject whose answer requires having taught the specification rather than the subject.

Mathematics (0580 / 0980; Edexcel 4MA1)

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

Ask how Cambridge splits the papers against how Edexcel does, and what that changes for practice. One board's entry includes a non-calculator paper; the other runs two calculator papers. A tutor who does not distinguish them will prepare for the wrong one.

Physics (0625; Edexcel 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Ask whether a practical exam exists. Cambridge: a twenty per cent component, practical test or alternative paper. Edexcel: none, with practical skills in the theory papers. This single answer identifies board experience immediately.

Chemistry (0620; Edexcel 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Ask which marks are the fastest to recover in eight weeks. The answer is organic reaction conditions and the exact wording of ion and gas tests, because both are pure recall. A tutor who says the whole syllabus has not marked scripts.

Biology (0610; Edexcel 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Ask where candidates lose marks in genetics. The answer involves writing crosses out in full rather than in shorthand, and the language of water potential in osmosis questions. Both are notation problems rather than knowledge problems.

English as a First Language (0500; Edexcel 4EA1)

Core and Extended

Ask what the summary question penalises. Lifted phrasing from the passage, because the marks are for the student's own words. A tutor who treats it as a comprehension exercise will coach the wrong behaviour for a term.

Economics (0455; Edexcel 4EC1)

Core and Extended

Ask what a diagram has to show to earn its marks. Labelled axes, correct initial position, correct direction of shift, and the new equilibrium identified. Marks go individually, and the prose around a wrong diagram cannot recover them.

Business Studies (0450; Edexcel 4BS1)

Core and Extended

Ask what the commonest error is on an insert-based paper. A correct textbook point applied to a business the insert does not describe. A tutor who has marked these will say it without prompting, because it dominates the scripts.

Computer Science (0478; Edexcel 4CP0)

Core and Extended

Ask whether pseudocode is marked on syntax. It is not; it is marked on logic, which students find counterintuitive after a year of Python. A tutor who insists on exact syntax is teaching programming rather than the specification.

Geography (0460; Edexcel 4GE1)

Core and Extended

Ask what separates a top-band case-study answer. A named example with figures rather than a generic description. Fujairah's own coastline and water scarcity are usable material, and a tutor who knows the region will suggest it.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all online and one-to-one. Verification happens before any of them, and the trial lesson is the main instrument for it.

Trial lesson used as an interview

One lesson, free, before anything is paid, with you able to listen in. Spend the first five minutes on specification questions and the rest watching whether your child can follow the explanation. Both halves matter, and the second is the one that predicts whether the arrangement lasts.

  • Ask two of the subject questions from this page
  • Watch whether the tutor asks which board and which tier
  • Judge your child's comprehension, not their politeness

Weekly one-to-one against one specification

A single subject at a single level or tier, with work set between sessions and marked before the next one. The ordinary arrangement, and the one where a mismatch between the tutor's experience and the actual specification shows up fastest, usually in the first marked piece.

  • Fixed weekly slot on Gulf Standard Time
  • A written topic risk list from the diagnostic, updated monthly
  • The specification named in writing at the start

A diagnostic-only engagement

One or two sessions with no commitment beyond them: a timed paper or a marked Internal Assessment draft, returned with losses attributed by cause. Useful when you are undecided, because it produces a document you can take to any tutor, including a different one.

  • A paper sat under genuine exam timing
  • Marked against the official scheme, not a model answer
  • A written list of causes you keep regardless of what happens next

01

Twelve questions that separate a specialist from a generalist

These work in a trial lesson, on a phone call, or in a message, and they share one property: a person who has taught the course answers each in a sentence, while a person who has not produces a paragraph about approach. You do not need to know the right answers in advance. You need to notice the difference between a specific answer and a general one, which anyone can do.

Start with identification. Which syllabus code or which level is my child sitting, and how would you confirm it? A specialist asks this before you do. Then: what are the components and what is each worth? Then: does a practical exam exist on this specification? Then: what are the three places candidates most reliably lose marks on this paper? Four questions, under two minutes, and most shortlists halve.

Then move to assessed coursework, because that is where the real divergence appears. What is the word cap on this piece? What is it marked on? Which criterion cannot be repaired once the work has been done? And what would you do if my child asked you to write a paragraph of it? The last question is not technical, and the right answer is a refusal with a description of the alternative. An answer that treats it as negotiable has told you what happens the week before the deadline.

Finish with process. How will you mark work between sessions? What will you send me after four weeks? What happens if the match is wrong? And what happens if you become unavailable? None of those requires subject knowledge and all of them predict whether the engagement survives a term. The table sets each question against the shape of a good answer and the shape of a weak one.

Checks a Merashid parent can actually make

Most credential claims cannot be verified by a parent, which is why the questions above matter. Two things can be checked, and both are worth doing. The first is the permit. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated: the private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18.

Because it costs nothing and the ministry's own service page states a two-working-day completion time, applied for through its smart app, website and e-services system, there is no reasonable explanation for a tutor working in the UAE not to hold one. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so no amount appears here; a figure circulating online could not be verified against any official source and is deliberately omitted.

The second check is the entity. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal from an individual tutor: it needs a Knowledge and Human Development Authority educational services permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. If a provider describes itself as holding such a permit, it has a number, and the number can be checked with the authority. If it cannot produce one, the claim should not be on the page.

There is also a rule limiting who may teach your child. Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's school. Treat that as press-reported rather than exact wording and check the current policy document, but the principle holds nationally: your child's own classroom teacher is the wrong person to engage privately.

WHAT CAN BE CHECKED, AND HOW
ClaimCan a parent verify it?The question to ask
Holds the private tuition work permitYes, by sight of the permitMay I see your MoHRE private tuition work permit?
Operates a licensed training institute in DubaiYes, via the authorityWhat is your educational services permit number?
Is a current examiner for a boardRarely, and not from a pageTreat as unverifiable unless evidenced; it implies nothing about papers

03

How this market oversells, in patterns you can spot from a page

  • A star rating with no countable, dated, attributable reviews behind it
  • A percentage or median with no sample size, date or method
  • Any claim of regulator or board approval, accreditation or licensing
  • A long school list under a heading that implies a relationship
  • Any offer to produce, complete or write assessed coursework

Sixty-odd competitor pages were fetched and read for this market, and the overclaiming follows a small number of repeated shapes. Knowing the shapes lets a Merashid parent filter a shortlist without speaking to anybody, which is faster than any conversation.

The first shape is the self-published rating. Several pages display a star rating and a review count that exist only on that page, with no countable, attributable reviews behind them. On one, two different ratings and review counts appear in the same document. On another, a five-star figure drawn from twenty reviews sits beside a claim of 2,500 students taught. Review markup that is not backed by real, dated, attributable reviews is a structured-data violation and, as a commercial representation, a consumer-protection exposure.

The second is the statistic with no sample, date or method. Satisfaction percentages, median tutor scores, proportions of students achieving top grades: all presented as facts, none with the underlying data. A figure without an n and a date is not evidence. The third shape is the accreditation claim — a regulator or board described as having approved, accredited or licensed the provider, which for a tutoring platform is not a thing that exists. That phrase is the single most dangerous sentence available to a page in this market.

The fourth is the school list. Pages display twenty-five or more school names under a heading implying a relationship, with no relationship in existence, and at least one lists a school that appears not to exist. Writing that students supported attend a school is accurate; presenting the school as a partner or client is not. The fifth and worst is the essay mill: a page in this search result sells completed Internal Assessment work at a fixed price, which is an academic-integrity breach whose consequence lands on the student rather than on the seller.

04

What a diagnostic proves that a curriculum vitae cannot

There is one piece of evidence that settles the competence question better than any claim, and it costs one or two sessions. A diagnostic: a full past paper sat under genuine exam timing, marked against the official mark scheme rather than a model answer, returned with every lost mark attributed to a cause. The document it produces tells you about your child, and the quality of the document tells you about the tutor.

A specialist's diagnostic looks specific. Lost marks are grouped: content not known, content known but not recalled under pressure, question misread, command term misread, method correct but not written out, time ran out. Each group has a count and examples. The topics named are narrow — two-step mole conversions, bounds, water-potential language — rather than broad. And the remedies attached to each are different from one another, because the causes are different.

A generalist's diagnostic looks like a school report. It says the student needs to revise more, build confidence and practise past papers. All three may be true and none of them is actionable, because they do not distinguish between a student who cannot do the content and a student who can do it but not in forty minutes with a clock running. Those two children need opposite interventions, and giving either the other one wastes a term.

The practical move for an undecided Merashid family is to buy the diagnostic alone, with no commitment beyond it. You keep the document whatever happens next, it can be taken to a different tutor, and it converts the shortlist decision from a judgement about people into a comparison of two pieces of work. That is a much easier decision than the one a near-me search presents you with.

05

When the honest answer is that nobody near Merashid knows the syllabus

  • Fast: IGCSE maths and sciences at Core and Extended, Diploma subjects at Standard Level
  • Moderate: Higher Level sciences and mathematics
  • Slow or unavailable: minority Higher Level subjects in a fixed slot
  • Ask what happens if the slot cannot be filled, and expect a specific answer

Sometimes the search returns nothing useful because nothing useful exists locally, and the honest version of that sentence appears on no page researched for this market. Fujairah's private-school sector is small, local Diploma capacity is limited, and for Higher Level Chemistry, Higher Level Computer Science, Visual Arts or a less common language, the number of people within a reasonable drive of Merashid who have taught that course recently may be zero. Paying an in-home premium of roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour does not alter that figure.

What changes the answer is removing geography from the problem. Online one-to-one delivery replaces who lives nearby with who has taught the course, which is the only move that affects the outcome rather than the convenience. That is the whole argument for the format, and it is strongest precisely in the emirates competitor pages ignore: Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain are named by none of the pages researched across ten query clusters.

Even then, availability is finite and should be stated rather than implied. Common subjects at common levels staff quickly. Higher Level sciences and mathematics staff reasonably. Minority Higher Level subjects take longer, and in one specific evening slot sometimes cannot be filled at all. In that case the right answer is a realistic timeframe, an alternative slot, or a straight no with the reason — never the nearest available generalist offered as a specialist.

Ask the question in those words of everybody on your shortlist, including us. The answer is informative either way. A provider that says everything is always available immediately in every subject at every level in any slot, in a market this size, has answered a different question from the one you asked.

06

Materials, mark schemes and the authorship line

Specifications, subject guides, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge and Pearson. A provider distributing them as downloads is reproducing copyrighted material, and where a paper is unreleased it is a malpractice exposure as well. The correct practice is to reference and link, so a parent reads the authoritative document rather than a third party's version of it. Everything factual on this page should be confirmed that way.

On assessed work the line is authorship, and it is worth stating in the exact terms a tutor should be able to repeat. A tutor may teach the content, explain each criterion in the board's published wording, show how a comparable task is approached, read a draft the student has written and name which criterion it misses, and teach the student to fix it themselves. A tutor may not write the Internal Assessment, draft the Extended Essay, or edit a piece to completion so that the sentences become theirs.

The limits are part of the same competence. The Extended Essay is capped at 4,000 words, the Theory of Knowledge essay at 1,600, the exhibition commentary at 950, the Diploma sciences investigation at 3,000, and each Economics commentary at 800. Those numbers are verification questions as much as planning facts, because a tutor who does not know them is not working from the guide, and a draft over a cap loses marks for a reason that has nothing to do with its quality.

Last, the statement that belongs on every page in this market and appears on almost none. IB Gram is not approved, accredited, licensed or partnered by the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge International, Pearson, the Ministry of Education, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, the Department of Education and Knowledge, the Sharjah Private Education Authority or the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It holds no such relationship, claims none, operates no premises in the UAE, and publishes no star rating or statistic it cannot evidence.

07

Putting it together: a Merashid shortlist in one evening

The whole method fits into a single evening and one trial lesson, which is faster than most families spend on the decision anyway. Step one is filtering from the pages themselves, without contacting anybody: remove anything carrying a self-published star rating, an unsourced statistic, an accreditation claim, a long school list implying a relationship, or any offer to produce coursework. In this market that removes a surprising proportion of the field before you have spoken to a single person.

Step two is the specification message. Send the subject, the level or tier, and the syllabus code, and ask two of the questions from the twelve: the components with their weightings, and where candidates lose marks on the main paper. The replies sort themselves within a day, because a specialist answers in a sentence and everybody else answers in a paragraph about their approach.

Step three is the trial lesson, run in the slot you actually intend to use rather than a convenient one, with you able to listen in. Watch whether the tutor asks which board before teaching anything. Watch whether your child can follow the explanation, which is the better predictor of the two. Ask the coursework-authorship question at the end, and treat anything other than a clear refusal as the answer.

Step four is the diagnostic in the first fortnight and a written risk list, then the same list again a month later with each item marked closed, improving or unchanged. That is the loop. It costs one evening, one trial lesson and two sessions, and it replaces a near-me search with something that actually tells you whether the person teaching your child knows the paper your child is sitting.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Merashid

Merashid and the districts around it. The comparison is deliberately about supply rather than distance, because that is what a near-me search is actually constrained by here.

Merashid

Established residential district with demand weighted towards Higher Level sciences and Extended-tier mathematics, which is precisely the band where the emirate's specialist supply is thinnest. Distance is not the binding constraint in this district.

Fujairah City centre

Most of the private-school capacity and the widest local subject range, which is still narrow against Sharjah or Dubai. The best local odds of finding a subject teacher, and still long odds at Higher Level.

Sakamkam

Inland and north-west, drawing on the same teacher pool as Merashid. The only practical difference is a longer afternoon return, which affects slot timing rather than availability.

Al Faseel

Coastal, close to the corniche and the port. Same specialist pool again, with a shorter drive. Families who move between these districts find the shortlist does not change, which is the useful finding.

Al Gurfa

South along the coast road, dispersed, often two school runs per household. The scarcity picture is identical; the scheduling picture is harder, so verification matters even more before committing a slot.

Dibba Al Fujairah

Around ninety minutes north with the fewest local secondary options in Fujairah. For a family here, verification questions are the whole process, because proximity offers nothing to verify.

Khor Fakkan

A Sharjah enclave on this coastline, so its schools answer to the Sharjah Private Education Authority rather than the federal Ministry of Education. The teacher pool differs slightly; the verification method does not.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Merashid

Fujairah city and the residential districts

The schools Merashid families use sit in and around Fujairah city. When checking a tutor's claim to know a school's approach, the verifiable question is which board and syllabus code that school entered, which the exams officer can confirm in a sentence.

  • Our Own English High School, Fujairah
  • Fujairah Private Academy
  • Al Ameer English School, Fujairah

Schools beyond the emirate that Merashid students attend

Boarding, commuting and relocation are common for the Diploma because local capacity is limited. A tutor claiming familiarity with a specific school's internal deadline calendar should be able to say which term the Extended Essay first draft falls in, or say honestly that they do not know.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Uptown International School

Schools are named only as context for the Fujairah and wider UAE school system. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any school named here, and no school listed is a client or an endorser.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Filter from the pages before contacting anybody

Remove any provider carrying a self-published star rating, a statistic without a sample and date, a claim of regulator or board accreditation, a school list implying a relationship, or an offer to produce coursework. In this market that shortens the field considerably at no cost and before any conversation.

  2. 02

Send the specification and ask two of the twelve questions

Subject, level or tier, syllabus code. Then ask for the components with their weightings and where candidates lose marks on the main paper. Replies sort themselves overnight, because a specialist answers in a sentence and everyone else describes their teaching philosophy.

  3. 03

Ask for the permit, once, in plain words

The private tuition work permit is free, lasts two years and takes two working days through the ministry's own service, so there is no reasonable explanation for not holding one. Ask to see it. Also ask which school employs them and whether your child is in their class.

  4. 04

Run the trial lesson in the real slot

Not a convenient demonstration hour. The same weekday and time you intend to book, with you able to listen in. Watch whether the tutor asks which board before teaching. Finish by asking what they would do if your child requested a written paragraph of coursework.

  5. 05

Buy the diagnostic, keep the document

A timed paper marked against the official scheme with losses grouped by cause. Judge the tutor by how specific that document is: narrow named topics and counted causes, or a sentence about revising more. You keep it either way and can take it to anybody else.

  6. 06

Re-read the risk list after four weeks

Each item marked closed, improving or unchanged, with the marked work behind it. Three unchanged items after two months means something should change, and it is not always the tutor; it may be the subject being prioritised, the frequency or the slot.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Verification questions instead of credentials

Credentials are easy to assert and hard for a parent to check. Specification questions are the opposite: a person who has taught the course answers each in a sentence. Twelve of them are printed here so a Merashid family can use them on any provider, this one included.

The two checks that genuinely exist

Sight of the private tuition work permit, which is free and lasts two years, and the educational services permit number for anyone claiming a licensed Dubai institute. Everything else is unverifiable from a page, which is precisely why the market relies on it.

The market's overclaims named as patterns

Self-published ratings, statistics with no sample or date, accreditation claims that cannot exist, school lists implying relationships, and essay mills. All five are observable from a page, which makes the first filter free and fast.

A diagnostic as the evidence, not a biography

A timed paper marked against the official scheme with losses grouped by cause tells you about your child, and the specificity of the document tells you about the tutor. It can be bought alone, with no commitment, and taken anywhere afterwards.

Coverage limits said out loud

Minority Higher Level subjects in a fixed slot sometimes cannot be staffed from anywhere, and the right response is a timeframe or a straight no rather than a substitution. No page researched across the ten query clusters in this market discloses that at all.

No claim this site cannot support

No regulator or board accreditation, no UAE premises, no star rating, no statistic without its sample and date, no fine amount the ministry never published, and no IB equivalency threshold that could not be verified. The absences are the point.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Merashid: your questions answered

How do I tell whether a tutor near Merashid really knows my child's syllabus?+

Ask four questions and listen for specificity. Which specification is my child sitting and how would you confirm it. What are the components and what is each worth. Does a practical exam exist on this specification. Where do candidates most reliably lose marks on the main paper. A person who has taught the course answers each in a sentence; a person who has not produces a paragraph about their approach. Two minutes of this usually halves a shortlist, and it works on any provider.

Should a Merashid parent trust the star rating printed on a tutoring page?+

Only if it is backed by real, countable, dated and attributable reviews, and most in this market are not. Among the pages researched, one shows two different ratings and review counts in the same document, and another pairs a five-star figure from twenty reviews with a claim of 2,500 students taught. Review markup that is not backed by genuine reviews is a structured-data violation and, as a commercial representation in the UAE, a consumer-protection exposure. Treat a self-published rating as a signal about the page, not the tutor.

Can a tutoring platform be approved by KHDA or the Ministry of Education?+

Not in the sense the phrase implies. A Knowledge and Human Development Authority educational services permit is issued to a training institute with premises in Dubai, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the steps and annual renewal at least thirty days before expiry. That is a specific licence with a number you can check. A general claim of regulator or board accreditation for a tutoring service is not a thing that exists, and it is the single most dangerous phrase on pages in this market.

What should I ask about a tutor's permit before the first lesson?+

Ask to see the private tuition work permit, which was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and takes a stated two working days through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation's own service. Because it is free and fast there is no reasonable explanation for not holding one. Also ask which school employs them, if any, and whether your child is in their class, because tutoring one's own enrolled students is barred.

A tutor offering lessons in Merashid says they are a board examiner. Does that help my child?+

Treat it as unverifiable unless they can evidence current status, and treat the implication as wrong regardless. Examiner experience does not provide access to marking decisions, grade boundaries or paper content, and any suggestion that it does should end the conversation. The useful version of the same claim is demonstrable instead: ask where candidates lose marks on a named paper. Somebody who has marked scripts answers that precisely, whether or not they currently hold an examiner contract.

What does a good diagnostic report actually look like?+

Specific and grouped. Lost marks sorted into six causes — content not known, content not recalled under pressure, question misread, command term misread, method not written out, time ran out — each with a count and examples, and narrow named topics rather than broad ones. A report that says the student should revise more, build confidence and do past papers is a school report, not a diagnostic, and it cannot distinguish between a child who does not know the content and one who cannot produce it under timing.

Is it worth paying for a diagnostic with no further commitment?+

Often yes, especially when you are undecided. One or two sessions produce a document about your child that you keep regardless of what happens next, and it can be taken to any other tutor. It also converts a difficult judgement about people into a comparison of two pieces of work, which is much easier. The quality of the document is itself the strongest evidence you will get about whether the tutor knows the specification.

What are the word limits a Diploma tutor should know without checking?+

The Extended Essay is capped at 4,000 words, the Theory of Knowledge essay at 1,600, the Theory of Knowledge exhibition commentary at 950, the sciences investigation at 3,000, and each Economics commentary at 800. These function as verification questions as well as planning facts: a tutor who does not know them is not working from the subject guide. A draft over a cap loses marks for a reason unconnected to its quality, which is entirely avoidable.

What is the right answer if I ask a tutor to write one paragraph?+

A refusal, followed by a description of what they would do instead: explain the criterion, show how a comparable passage is built, read what your child writes and say where it falls short. Anything that treats the request as a matter of degree has told you what will happen in the week before the deadline, when the pressure is real and you are not in the room. A page in this search result sells completed assessed work outright, and the consequence falls on the candidate.

Why does the near-me search work badly in Fujairah specifically?+

Because the private-school sector is small and local Diploma capacity is limited, so the pool of people who have taught a particular course recently is small and in some subjects empty. Merashid, Sakamkam, Al Faseel and Al Gurfa draw on the same pool, so moving a few kilometres changes nothing on the shortlist. Distance is a proxy for competence and in this market it is a poor one, which is why specification questions replace it rather than supplement it.

What should happen if no specialist is free for my subject and slot?+

You should be told, with a realistic timeframe, an alternative slot, or a straight no and the reason. What should not happen is a generalist presented as a specialist, with the mismatch appearing in week three. No page researched across the ten query clusters in this market discloses a coverage limit at all, and several route UAE parents to a phone number in another country without saying so. Ask the question directly of everybody, including us.

Are long lists of school names on a tutoring page meaningful?+

Usually not, and sometimes worse than meaningless. Pages in this market display twenty-five or more school names under headings implying a relationship that does not exist, and at least one lists a school that appears not to exist at all. Saying that students supported attend a school is accurate. Presenting the school as a partner, client or endorser is not. Treat a long list as decoration and ask instead which specification that school entered, which the exams officer can confirm.

How do I verify a tutor knows the Middle Years Programme rather than the Diploma?+

Ask what the four assessment criteria are in the subject concerned, and what the Personal Project is marked out of. The programme uses four criteria per subject, each out of eight, converted to a 1-7 grade, and the Personal Project is marked out of 24 across planning, applying skills and reflecting. A tutor whose experience is examination-based will answer in terms of papers, which means they will teach content where marks are being lost on communication.

Can I use these checks on IB Gram as well?+

Yes, and you should. Ask for the permit, ask the twelve questions in the trial lesson, ask what happens if no specialist is free, and ask for a diagnostic you can keep. For the record: this site claims no regulator or board accreditation, holds no partnership with any school named here, operates no UAE premises, publishes no star rating, and quotes no statistic without its sample and date. Where a figure could not be verified — an IB equivalency threshold, a fine amount — it is absent rather than estimated.

Replace the near-me filter with four questions

For a Merashid family the search that works is not geographical. Filter the shortlist from the pages themselves, send the specification with two of the twelve questions attached, ask to see the private tuition work permit, and run the trial lesson in the slot you actually intend to use with yourself able to listen in. Then buy the diagnostic and keep the document. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; nobody is sent to a Merashid address. Use every check on this page on us too, which is the only reason to publish them.
