IB IGCSE Home Tutor in Fujairah

A search for an IB IGCSE home tutor in Fujairah usually comes from a household running two boards at once: one child finishing international GCSEs, another starting the Diploma, or one student about to cross from one to the other. This page prices visiting tuition honestly for a two-child household, then maps the four years from Year 10 to Diploma results so you can see which term each problem belongs to. IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Fujairah

Two boards, four years, and which term each problem belongs to

The households that search for this phrase in Fujairah are rarely looking for one tutor for one problem. They are managing a sequence. A Year 11 student is three terms from an IGCSE series while an older sibling is halfway through the Diploma, or a single student is about to cross from one board to the other and the family has worked out that nobody has explained what that crossing involves. The question underneath the search is not which tutor is nearest. It is which of the next eight terms each worry actually belongs to.

That sequence is unusually visible on the east coast. Fujairah's private-school set is small, and families here frequently split their children across boards or across emirates for sixth form, which means one household can be working to two sets of term dates, two assessment calendars and two sets of academic conventions at the same time. A parent who has only ever dealt with IGCSE meets the Diploma core in October of Year 12 and discovers that an Extended Essay, a Theory of Knowledge course and a service commitment have all started without anybody sending a letter about it.

Before the map, the honest answer to the home-tutoring part of the search. Visiting tuition on this coast is real and it is priced for the drive: published market bands put visiting one-to-one in the UAE at roughly AED 180 to 500 per hour with travel included, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online. For a two-child household the arithmetic compounds, because two visiting tutors means two sets of travel, two availability windows and usually two different evenings committed. The first table on this page works that through.

IB Gram delivers to UAE families one-to-one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time so each child's hour sits in a Fujairah evening. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; a tutor arriving at the door is a service we run only in India. For a two-board household that limitation turns out to be less costly than it sounds, because the thing such a household most needs is two correctly matched specialists on one evening rather than two people who happen to be available in the same emirate.

The rest of the page is the sequence. The four-year map from Year 10 to Diploma results, with what each window decides. The IGCSE-to-Diploma gap set out subject by subject rather than as a general warning about rigour. What IGCSE attainment actually suggests about Higher Level, with the check worth running before the choice is made. The Diploma core and its internal deadlines. The handover summer, which almost nobody uses. The scheduling and cost of running two children at once. And the honesty boundaries, which differ between the two boards and matter more under the IB.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four structures, in the order a Fujairah family meets them. Each has its own assessment logic, and most of the confusion in a two-board household comes from applying one structure's assumptions to another's deadlines.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

The IB's programme for the years before the Diploma, assessed against published criteria rather than by terminal written papers, and concluding with a Personal Project in the final year. Students coming out of it arrive at the Diploma already fluent in criterion language and in extended independent work, and slightly less practised at sitting a long written paper to time than an IGCSE student is.

Few schools on the east coast run the MYP, so a Fujairah family in this programme has usually chosen a school in another emirate or is weighing that choice. The practical consequence is a different term calendar from their neighbours and a different kind of preparation gap on entering the Diploma, which is a reason to plan the handover summer deliberately.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

International GCSE, Years 10 and 11

Two years ending in written papers, usually across eight to ten subjects, on either a Cambridge or a Pearson Edexcel specification with tiering in many subjects. It produces students who are good at timed written papers and at closed questions, and who have rarely been asked to design their own line of enquiry or to sustain an argument across several thousand words.

The dominant route in Fujairah's private schools, which is why most two-board households here are IGCSE below and Diploma above rather than the other way round. Cohorts are small, so a student's IGCSE subject list is sometimes shaped by what the school could staff, and that shaping carries forward into which Diploma subjects are realistic.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects studied simultaneously, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, scored on a 45-point scale, with internal assessment in every subject alongside the written examinations. The load is not simply harder than three A Levels; it is wider, and it is continuous, because internal assessment deadlines sit inside the two years rather than at the end of them.

Some east-coast students travel or move for the Diploma, since the programme is concentrated in the larger emirates. That means term dates, internal deadlines and the school's own assessment calendar need reading from the specific school, and the IB coordinator rather than any website is the authority on every date that matters to a candidate.

CoreAges 16-18 · across both Diploma years

The Diploma core: Extended Essay, TOK and CAS

Three requirements running alongside the six subjects. The Extended Essay is an independent research piece with a 4,000-word upper limit. Theory of Knowledge is a taught course assessed by an essay on a prescribed title and an exhibition. Creativity, activity, service runs across both years as a commitment rather than an examination. Together the essay and TOK contribute up to three points to the total.

The core is where two-board households are most often caught out, because nothing in an IGCSE year resembles it and its deadlines are set by the school rather than published nationally. Ask the IB coordinator in the first month of Year 12 for the school's own internal deadline calendar, then build the family's year around that document rather than around the examination season.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

Diploma subjects, with the note on each describing what a student arriving from IGCSE typically has not yet met. This is a transition list rather than a difficulty list: most of these gaps are three or four weeks of specific work, not a judgement about the student.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The route for students heading towards engineering, physics, mathematics or economics at competitive universities. An IGCSE Extended student arrives with solid technique and no experience of proof, of the formal treatment of functions, or of calculus beyond whatever Additional Mathematics covered. Three to four weeks of bridging work on algebraic fluency and notation prevents most of the early damage.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and technology-led problem solving rather than proof. It is not an easier course, it is a different one, and the commonest error is choosing it to avoid difficulty rather than because it matches the degree intention. Check the stated mathematics requirement of the specific universities a student is considering before the choice is locked in.

Chemistry

HL and SL

The step from IGCSE chemistry is mostly quantitative. Equilibrium, energetics and the depth of organic mechanism are the three places where an IGCSE-strong student suddenly finds the ground moving, and they arrive early in the first year. A student who found moles calculations uncomfortable at IGCSE should close that gap during the handover summer rather than in October.

Physics

HL and SL

Mathematical demand rises faster here than in any other science. An IGCSE physics student who was fine on substitution meets algebraic rearrangement, vectors and graphical analysis as routine expectations. The internal assessment also arrives sooner than most students expect, and designing an investigation is a skill nothing in IGCSE physics required.

Biology

HL and SL

Volume rather than conceptual difficulty, as at IGCSE, but with a far greater emphasis on data analysis and on explaining mechanism in precise language. Students who revised biology by rereading at IGCSE plateau quickly here. The fix is retrieval practice and marking long answers against criteria, which is work done between sessions rather than inside them.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram discipline carries forward from IGCSE and is immediately insufficient, because Diploma answers require evaluation and real-world application sustained across several paragraphs. The internal assessment commentaries are the component families underestimate, since they are written to a strict word allowance against published criteria during term time.

Business Management

HL and SL

Familiar territory for an IGCSE Business Studies student in content and unfamiliar in register. The Diploma rewards justified recommendation and the use of a given tool or framework rather than general commentary, and the written assignment at Higher Level is a different kind of task from anything in the IGCSE papers.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The individual oral and the guided analysis both ask for something IGCSE rarely does: a sustained reading of an unseen extract linked to a global issue, delivered under conditions. A student with a strong First Language English grade still needs teaching in how the Diploma's assessment reads a response, which is a technique gap rather than a reading one.

Computer Science

HL and SL

The theory broadens sharply beyond IGCSE 0478, into system fundamentals, networks and, at Higher Level, abstract data structures. The internal assessment is a developed solution with documentation, which demands project discipline over months rather than coding ability in an afternoon.

Arabic A and Arabic B

HL and SL

Two different courses for two different starting points, and the choice is consequential rather than administrative. An IGCSE Arabic grade does not map cleanly onto either, so the placement conversation belongs with the school before the Diploma starts, not in the first assessment week of Year 12.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

The IGCSE side of a two-board household, with the note on each describing what it leaves a student ready and not ready for at Diploma level. These are the subjects whose Year 11 outcome shapes the following four terms most directly.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580, Pearson 4MA1)

Core and Extended, Foundation and Higher

The single most consequential IGCSE result for a Diploma plan, because it gates both mathematics routes and affects physics, chemistry and economics. An Extended or Higher entry with secure algebra opens Analysis and Approaches; a comfortable but mechanical pass usually points to Applications and Interpretation.

Additional Mathematics (Cambridge 0606)

Single tier

The best available preparation for Analysis and Approaches, because it introduces calculus, vectors and matrices a year early. Where a school offers it to a small set, it is worth taking for a student with secure algebra and worth declining for one still rebuilding it, since it otherwise becomes remedial work under another name.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620, Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Leaves a student fluent in equations and observation language and short of quantitative confidence. The specific gap that matters is moles work beyond the IGCSE treatment, which is exactly what Diploma energetics and equilibrium assume from week one.

Physics (Cambridge 0625, Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Produces students comfortable with substitution into a formula and unpractised at rearranging one. Electricity and electromagnetism are where IGCSE marks are lost and also where Diploma physics builds fastest, so a weakness here is worth closing before the Diploma rather than during it.

Biology (Cambridge 0610, Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Content-heavy and well matched in style to Diploma biology, which makes it the smoothest of the three science transitions. The habit worth building in Year 11 is answering long questions against published criteria rather than writing everything remembered, because that habit transfers directly.

First Language English (Cambridge 0500, Pearson 4EA1)

Single tier

Builds the close-reading and directed-writing skills English A assumes, without ever asking for a sustained argument across several thousand words. That second skill is what the Extended Essay needs, which is why strong English students still find the essay harder than they expected.

Economics (Cambridge 0455, Pearson 4EC1)

Single tier

Diagram technique and definitions transfer intact; evaluation does not, because IGCSE rarely demands it at length. A student who scored well through accuracy alone should expect the first Diploma assessment to feel like a different subject, and should plan for that rather than be surprised by it.

Computer Science (Cambridge 0478)

Single tier

Covers programming and the written-paper conventions that Diploma theory extends. The gap is project discipline: the Diploma internal assessment is a solution developed and documented over months, which nothing in the IGCSE course rehearses.

Co-ordinated and Combined Sciences (Cambridge 0654, 0653)

Double and single award

The route many east-coast students sit, and the one that needs the most careful Diploma conversation, since the trimmed content in each discipline can leave visible gaps at Higher Level. Worth auditing subject by subject in the handover summer rather than assuming the award covers the ground.

Arabic as a First Language (Cambridge 0508) and Arabic Foreign Language (Cambridge 0544)

Two separate syllabuses

Neither maps automatically onto Arabic A or Arabic B at Diploma level, and the reading demand differs sharply between the two IGCSE routes themselves. Confirm the Diploma placement with the school rather than inferring it from the IGCSE grade.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements built for a household running more than one stage at once. The organising principle is that each child is matched separately and reviewed together, because a shared tutor across two boards serves whichever child is louder.

Consecutive sibling slots, separate tutors

Two hours back to back on one evening, each with a tutor matched to that child's own syllabus code and level. One quiet room is prepared once, one evening is committed, and the two written records arrive to the same parent and are reviewed at the same points. It is the arrangement most two-board households settle on after trying the alternatives.

  • Each child matched separately to a code and level
  • One prepared room and one committed evening per week
  • Two written records, reviewed side by side at week five and week eleven
  • Checked after a month to confirm neither plan is being starved

Diploma core support blocks

Short, scheduled blocks built around the school's own internal deadlines for the Extended Essay, the Theory of Knowledge essay and each subject's internal assessment. The work is question framing, criterion reading, planning and feedback on the student's own drafts, held firmly inside the IB's academic-honesty rules.

  • Planned against the school's internal deadline calendar, not the exam season
  • Research question framing and criterion reading, with the student as author
  • Feedback on the student's own drafts, never supplied text
  • A supervisor conversation encouraged rather than replaced

The handover summer block

Six to eight sessions in the weeks between the last IGCSE paper and the start of Diploma Year 1, aimed at the specific content and habits the Diploma assumes rather than teaches. Mathematics notation, quantitative chemistry, the shape of a long argument, and how criterion-based assessment reads a piece of work.

  • Subject-by-subject audit against the chosen Diploma subjects
  • Mathematics notation and algebraic fluency first, because everything rests on it
  • One practice piece of extended writing with criterion-based feedback
  • A written statement of what to revisit in the first term

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Fujairah

01

What visiting tuition costs a two-board household

A single-child family comparing tutors compares hourly rates. A household with one child on IGCSE and another on the Diploma is comparing something more complicated, because almost nothing scales cleanly. Two visiting tutors mean two journeys, two availability windows and usually two separate evenings, and on the east coast each of those journeys is an hour and a half from Sharjah or close to two hours from Dubai. The rate is the smallest part of what that arrangement costs a family in a week.

Published market bands put visiting one-to-one tuition in the UAE at roughly AED 180 to 500 per hour with travel included, with Bestimate's Dubai rate table at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors reported up to AED 500. A qualified subject tutor working online sits at roughly AED 150 to 300, and specialists at AED 200 to 450 or more. Monthly packages seen in this market run around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour home visits, which only become comparable once both are divided down to a per-hour figure.

The compounding problem for a two-board household is the match rather than the money. A visiting tutor is chosen from whoever will make the drive, and the chance that the same person teaches Cambridge 0580 Extended well and Diploma Chemistry at Higher Level is small. What families end up with is one good match and one approximate one, usually without being told which is which. One tutor covering both children across two boards is the arrangement that looks most efficient on paper and delivers least, because the preparation for each is genuinely different work.

IB Gram's position, stated rather than implied: no home visits anywhere in the UAE, with tutors at the door a service we run only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. For this particular household shape that removes the hardest constraint, because two correctly matched specialists can teach consecutive hours on one evening in one prepared room, and the family commits one evening rather than two.

The four-year map, from Year 10 to Diploma results

Most of the anxiety in a two-board household comes from problems being worried about in the wrong term. A Diploma subject choice worried about in Year 10 is premature; the same choice worried about in September of Year 12 is late. An Extended Essay question worried about in the final term of Year 13 is a crisis that six earlier months would have prevented. Laying the four years out on one page does more for a family than any individual lesson, because it tells them what this term is actually for.

Two anchors hold the map together. The first is the IGCSE entry deadline, because it fixes the tier and therefore the realistic range of Diploma options. Cambridge publishes a final entry date well ahead of the papers for each series it runs in the UAE, and those series are June and November; the February sitting some families have read about is offered in India only, so the honest plan is June with November held as the resit route. The exact closing date for the series you want belongs on the centre's statement of entry rather than on a tutor's page, because it moves. Pearson runs its International GCSE series in May/June and November, with the November 2026 final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026, and publishes provisional timetables in advance.

The second anchor is the school's own internal deadline calendar for the Diploma, and it is the document families most often never see. Internal assessment deadlines, Extended Essay milestones and Theory of Knowledge submission dates are set inside the school rather than published nationally, and they fall during term time alongside everything else. Ask the IB coordinator for that calendar in the first month of Year 12. Dates for IB examination sessions and results should be confirmed with the coordinator or on ibo.org rather than taken from any tutoring page, including this one.

The window families underuse is the handover summer, between the last IGCSE paper and the first day of Diploma Year 1. Nothing is being assessed, the student is as free as they will be for three years, and the gap between what IGCSE finished with and what the Diploma assumes is at its most addressable. Six to eight sessions there, aimed at mathematics notation and the shape of a long argument, consistently buy more than the same number bought in a panic in the following February.

The IGCSE to Diploma gap, subject by subject

One competitor page in this market has a single heading about the IGCSE-to-IB gap. Nobody has a structured version, which is strange, because the gap is not general. It is specific, it differs by subject, and almost all of it can be named in advance. A student does not find the Diploma hard because it is prestigious. They find a particular week hard because a particular assumption was never taught, and most of those assumptions are listed below.

The pattern across subjects is consistent. IGCSE finishes a student at the point where a technique has been practised on structured questions. The Diploma begins at the point where the technique is assumed and the thinking starts. In mathematics that means notation and proof. In chemistry it means quantitative work beyond the moles treatment IGCSE stopped at. In physics it means rearranging rather than substituting. In the essay subjects it means sustaining an argument well past the length any IGCSE paper required.

The second half of the gap is assessment style, and it catches strong students hardest. IGCSE rewards answering the question asked, accurately, inside a tight space. The Diploma rewards meeting published criteria, which is a different skill: a student has to know what the criterion is asking for and write visibly towards it. A student who scored highly at IGCSE through accuracy alone often takes a full term to understand why their first Diploma piece came back lower than they expected, and that term is avoidable.

The weeks column in the table below is the honest part and should be read as typical rather than promised. These are bridging jobs, not rescues, and they are considerably cheaper in the handover summer than in Diploma term time. A family that audits four subjects over that summer and closes two gaps has spent a fraction of what the same two gaps cost to close in February of Year 12, with the Extended Essay and three internal assessments competing for the same hours.

What IGCSE results actually suggest about Higher Level

Three Higher Level subjects and three Standard Level is the Diploma's shape, and choosing which three go where is the most consequential decision of the handover summer. Families reach for the IGCSE grade as the evidence, which is reasonable but incomplete, because the IGCSE grade bundles together several different things: how much content was known, how well it was written, how fast it was written, and how much tuition was holding it up. Higher Level is sensitive to the first and the last of those in particular.

The more useful evidence is a marked script rather than a grade. A student with a high mathematics grade built on relentless practice of structured questions is in a different position from one with the same grade who could handle an unfamiliar problem with no scaffold, and Higher Level mathematics distinguishes between those two in its first term. The same applies in the sciences: a grade achieved with weekly tuition throughout Year 11 is a grade plus a support structure, and Higher Level assumes the support structure is not needed.

The practical check is cheap and almost nobody runs it. Take one piece of genuinely unfamiliar work at the Diploma's level in the subject under consideration, have the student attempt it without help, and read what they do when they are stuck. It will not be finished and it does not need to be. What it shows is whether they can get started, whether they reach for a method, and whether an unscaffolded question provokes thinking or paralysis, and that is a far better predictor of Higher Level than a grade is.

Two further honest points. Degree intention should lead, not comfort: the mathematics route in particular should be chosen against the stated requirements of the universities a student is considering, and verified on those universities' own pages. And a decision taken in the handover summer is not irreversible, because levels can usually be changed in the first weeks of Diploma Year 1 by agreement with the school. Ask the coordinator what that window is at the start of term, so a correction is a conversation rather than an emergency.

The Diploma core and the deadlines set inside the school

  • Get the school's internal deadline calendar in the first month of Year 12
  • A research question answerable in 4,000 words beats an interesting topic
  • The student is the author of every word submitted, without exception
  • The supervisor relationship is the primary one; a tutor supports it rather than replacing it

Nothing in two IGCSE years prepares a family for the core. Alongside six subjects, a Diploma student carries an Extended Essay with a 4,000-word upper limit, a Theory of Knowledge course assessed by an essay on a prescribed title and an exhibition, and a creativity, activity and service commitment running across both years. The essay and TOK together contribute up to three points to the 45-point total, which understates how much of the student's year they occupy.

The scheduling problem is that these deadlines are internal. The school sets them, they fall during term time, and they are not published anywhere a parent would stumble across. A household that only tracks the examination season discovers in March of Year 12 that an Extended Essay research question was due in November and a first full draft is expected before the summer. Getting the coordinator's own deadline calendar in the first month of Year 12 and writing it into one family document is the single most useful administrative act of the two years.

What tuition can usefully do here is narrower than families hope and more valuable than they expect. It can help a student frame a research question that is answerable in 4,000 words rather than a topic that is not. It can read the published criteria with them until they can say what each one is asking for. It can read a draft the student has produced and name which criterion is thin and why. It cannot and must not supply text, restructure the piece on the student's behalf, or edit it to a point where the words are no longer theirs.

That boundary matters more under the IB than anywhere else, because the consequence lands on the student. Assessed work has to be the student's own, and the IB's academic-honesty rules treat breaches as a malpractice matter affecting the whole diploma. One page competing for these searches sells finished internal assessments outright. A tutor's role is to teach, question, point at the criteria and give feedback, and a tutor who offers more than that is offering the student a risk dressed up as help.

06

The handover summer, which almost nobody uses

Between the last IGCSE paper and the first day of Diploma Year 1 sit six to eight weeks in which nothing is assessed, the student has more free attention than they will have again for three years, and the gap between what IGCSE finished with and what the Diploma assumes is at its most addressable. Most families use none of it, understandably, because the household has just survived an examination series and wants a holiday. A fortnight of that holiday, used well, changes the following October.

The order of work matters. Mathematics notation and algebraic fluency come first, because everything in the sciences and in economics rests on them and because they are the cheapest thing to fix with a clear head. Quantitative chemistry comes next for anybody taking the subject, since energetics and equilibrium arrive in the first term. Then one piece of extended writing, longer than any IGCSE answer, with feedback against criteria rather than against accuracy, so the student has met criterion-based assessment once before it counts.

The audit is as valuable as the teaching. Sitting down with the chosen Diploma subjects and listing, for each, what the course assumes on day one produces a short document that tells a family where the following year's risk actually sits. Sometimes it changes a level choice, which is far cheaper to change in August than in November. Sometimes it confirms that nothing needs doing, which is also worth knowing and costs one session to establish.

For east-coast families there is often a logistical layer on top, because a student moving to a Diploma school in another emirate is also changing cohort, timetable and sometimes accommodation. The academic bridging is the part that can be done from Fujairah over video while the rest is arranged, and doing it then rather than after term starts means arriving as a participant rather than as somebody catching up in a new place.

Running two children on two boards in one week

  • Two matched tutors in consecutive hours beats one tutor across two boards
  • Two records in one format, to one parent, reviewed at the same points
  • Both schools' calendars in one family document, written down in September
  • Decide in advance whose hour moves when two deadlines collide

The practical questions a two-board household asks are rarely academic. Can both children be taught on the same evening. Is one tutor cheaper than two. Who reads the two written records. What happens when one child's internal deadline collides with the other's mock week. Those are scheduling and information questions, and getting them wrong is how a family ends up paying for four hours a week and getting the benefit of two.

On the tutor question, the honest answer is two. One tutor across an IGCSE Extended set and a Diploma Higher Level set is the arrangement that looks efficient and quietly serves whichever child is more demanding, because the preparation for each is different work and one of them will get less of it. Two separately matched tutors in consecutive hours on one evening costs the same number of hours, commits one evening rather than two, and gives each child somebody who knows their specification.

On information, the thing that makes a two-child plan manageable is a single shared view. Two written records in the same format, arriving to the same parent, reviewed at the same points in the term. That is what allows a parent to notice that one child's recurring error stopped appearing at week five while the other's did not, and to act on it rather than discovering it at the end of a term. Records in two different formats from two unconnected tutors are the commonest reason a two-child plan drifts.

On collisions, the only workable approach is to write both schools' calendars into one document in September: mock weeks, internal assessment deadlines, Extended Essay milestones, and the IGCSE entry date. When a Diploma internal deadline lands in the same week as an IGCSE mock, something has to give, and deciding in advance which child's hour moves that week is a far better conversation than having it on the evening itself.

08

Where the honesty line sits, and it differs by board

Both boards require assessed work to be the student's own, and the IB enforces it with the most consequence because the whole diploma is at stake rather than one grade. The line itself is the same in both systems: teaching is allowed, feedback is allowed, supplying content is not. What differs is the surface area. An IGCSE student has limited coursework; a Diploma student carries internal assessment in every subject plus an essay and a TOK submission, so the line comes up many more times.

The things a tutor may legitimately do are specific. Teach the skill the task requires. Work through a comparable example that is not the student's own task. Read the published criteria with the student until they can state what each one asks for. Read a draft the student has produced and name which criterion is thin and why. Ask the questions that make a student notice their argument does not follow. Teach referencing and have the student check their own.

The things nobody may do are equally specific: supply text for an assessed piece, restructure it on the student's behalf, correct it line by line until the voice has changed, or hand over a model close enough to the set task to be copied. The same applies to materials. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to the boards; the honest approach is to reference them and link to the board's own site rather than to redistribute them.

For a parent the test is what arrives after a session. Written notes, a marked set with the criterion named against each loss, and a short statement of what to practise next are evidence of teaching. A finished piece of assessed work in your child's subject that your child did not author is evidence of something else, and under IB rules it is the student who carries the consequence. That is why this page states the boundary rather than leaving it to be inferred.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Fujairah

What a two-board household looks like differs across the emirate, mostly because of where the Diploma is actually available. The notes below describe that picture community by community, since it decides whether a family is managing two boards in one house or two boards in two emirates.

Fujairah city

Where the emirate's private-school places are concentrated, and therefore where most IGCSE study happens. Households here running a Diploma student as well have usually placed that child in another emirate or are weighing the move, which means two school calendars under one roof and two sets of internal deadlines to track.

Sakamkam

Residential and feeding the city schools, so the IGCSE side is straightforward and the Diploma side is the logistical question. Where an older sibling boards or commutes for the Diploma, the family's weekly tuition rhythm has to work around two different term patterns rather than one.

Merashid

Frequently two children at different stages in one household, which is the exact case this page is written for. Consecutive evening slots with separately matched tutors work better here than any attempt to share a tutor across an IGCSE set and a Diploma set, because the two jobs need different preparation.

Al Faseel

Good access to the city and to the Sharjah road, so visiting quotes arrive from outside the emirate and carry travel inside them. For a two-child household those quotes compound, since two visiting tutors means two journeys, two availability windows and usually two committed evenings.

Al Gurfa

Quieter households with one shared study space, which is the practical constraint when two children need hours in the same week. Consecutive slots in one prepared room solve it; parallel sessions on separate devices in one house compete for both quiet and bandwidth.

Dibba Al-Fujairah

The thinnest local provision in the emirate, and the community where a Diploma student almost certainly studies elsewhere. Families here are often running the handover summer remotely while a child is between schools, which is precisely the window this page argues should be used deliberately.

Qidfa and Mirbah

Highway villages with long school journeys, so a two-child plan has to be built around energy as much as around time. A shorter session each for two children usually works better than one full hour each, and the plan should say so rather than defaulting to the longer slot.

Masafi

At the pass, with some students attending school in another emirate and therefore on different term dates. For a two-board household this is the hardest calendar to manage, and the only workable approach is to write both schools' internal deadline dates into one family document in September.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Fujairah

Fujairah city and the east coast

The IGCSE side of most two-board households on this coast. Small cohorts, short subject lists, and a Year 11 subject set that was sometimes shaped by what the school could staff rather than by the student's eventual Diploma intention. Students we support attend schools in this group; none is a partner, client or sponsor of IB Gram.

  • Our Own English High School, Fujairah
  • Fujairah Private Academy
  • Al Ameer English School, Fujairah

Dubai IB Diploma schools

Where east-coast students most often sit the Diploma, since the programme is concentrated in the larger emirates. Internal deadlines for the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and each subject's internal assessment are set by the individual school, so the coordinator's own calendar is the document that matters.

  • Dubai International Academy, Emirates Hills
  • GEMS Modern Academy, Dubai
  • Uptown International School
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Arabian Ranches
  • Dubai American Academy

Sharjah and the northern emirates

The nearer alternative for families not travelling as far as Dubai, and where some Masafi and Dibba students attend school outright. Different regulator, sometimes different term dates, and therefore a second calendar for a household already tracking one.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Australian International School, Sharjah
  • Sharjah English School
  • RAK Academy
  • Scholars Indian School, Ras Al Khaimah

Schools are named as context for programme availability and term calendars on and near the east coast. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Write both calendars into one document

In September, put the IGCSE entry date and mock weeks alongside the Diploma school's internal deadlines for internal assessment, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge. Ask the IB coordinator for that calendar; it is not published anywhere a parent would find it. One document for the household is what makes a two-board year navigable.

  2. 02

Send each child's code and level separately

Subject, board, syllabus code, tier or level, and the series or session, for each child individually. A two-child enquiry that arrives as one description of two students takes three conversations to untangle. With the details split, each child is matched to somebody who teaches their specification rather than their subject.

  3. 03

Take a 45-minute diagnostic for each

One free trial lesson per family, no card details required, and for a two-child household it is worth using it on whichever situation is less clear. Each diagnostic produces a written statement: code and level, which topics are secure, whether losses are content, technique or timing, and a realistic number of weeks.

  4. 04

Book consecutive slots on one evening

Two hours back to back in one prepared room, each with a separately matched tutor, on Gulf Standard Time after the bus and a meal. It commits one evening rather than two, which is the difference between a plan a household sustains for a term and one it abandons in week five.

  5. 05

Use the handover summer for the audit

Before Diploma Year 1 starts, list what each chosen subject assumes on day one and check the student against it. Mathematics notation first, quantitative chemistry next, then one piece of long-form writing marked against criteria. If a level choice needs changing, August is much cheaper than November.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Each child matched to their own specification

An IGCSE Extended set and a Diploma Higher Level set are different jobs requiring different preparation, so each child is matched separately to a syllabus code and level. One tutor spanning both looks efficient and quietly serves whichever child asks for more attention.

One evening, one room, two records

Consecutive hours in a single prepared room, with two written records in the same format arriving to the same parent and reviewed at the same points in the term. That shared view is what lets a parent notice one plan working while the other stalls, rather than finding out at the end of a term.

The transition mapped, not described

The IGCSE-to-Diploma gap is set out subject by subject with the assumption each course makes on day one and the typical bridging weeks attached. One competing page has a single heading on the subject; nobody has a structured version, and a family planning four years needs the structure rather than the warning.

The core's internal deadlines taken seriously

Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and internal assessment deadlines are set inside the school and fall during term time. Support blocks are planned against that calendar rather than against the examination season, which is the mistake that turns a manageable year into a March crisis.

The honesty boundary stated, not implied

A tutor teaches, questions, reads criteria and gives feedback on drafts the student has authored. Nobody here supplies text for an assessed piece or edits one until the voice changes. Under IB rules the consequence of crossing that line lands on the student, which is why it is written down rather than left to be assumed.

No dates or claims we cannot stand behind

IB session and results dates belong to the coordinator and to ibo.org, not to a tutoring page, so none are published here. No regulator or board approval is claimed, no UAE office exists, no grade is promised, and there are no home visits anywhere in the UAE.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Fujairah: your questions answered

Can one tutor cover IGCSE for my daughter and the IB Diploma for my son?+

Occasionally, and it is usually the wrong arrangement even when it is possible. Teaching Cambridge 0580 at Extended tier and Diploma Chemistry at Higher Level are different preparation jobs, and one person doing both tends to serve whichever child is more demanding that week. Two separately matched tutors in consecutive hours on one evening costs the same number of hours, commits one evening rather than two, and gives each child somebody who knows their own specification rather than their subject in general.

What changes between IGCSE Year 11 and the first year of the IB Diploma?+

Three things at once. The subjects assume techniques rather than teaching them, so notation, algebraic rearrangement and quantitative confidence are expected from week one. The assessment rewards meeting published criteria rather than answering accurately in a tight space, which is a different skill. And the core starts: an Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and a service commitment all running alongside six subjects, with deadlines set inside the school during term time rather than at the end of the course.

Which IGCSE grades suggest Higher Level rather than Standard Level?+

The grade is weaker evidence than the script. A high grade built on relentless practice of structured questions is a different signal from the same grade achieved on unfamiliar problems with no scaffold, and Higher Level separates those two in its first term. A grade achieved with weekly tuition all year is a grade plus a support structure. The cheap check nobody runs is one unfamiliar Diploma-level question attempted unaided, read for what the student does when they are stuck rather than for whether they finish.

When should a Fujairah student start thinking about Diploma subject choices?+

Lightly in Year 10, when the IGCSE subject set is being fixed, because a subject not taken at IGCSE can narrow what is realistic later. Seriously in the handover summer, once actual results exist. Year 10 is for making sure nothing is being closed off, particularly in mathematics and the sciences. The handover summer is for the real decision, and it should be driven by degree intention checked against the universities' own stated requirements rather than by which option feels more comfortable.

How long is the gap between IGCSE results and the start of the Diploma?+

Results generally arrive during the summer break, with Pearson's June 2026 results reaching students on 20 August 2026 as a recent example, so the window between the last paper and the first Diploma day is roughly six to eight weeks depending on the series and the school. That window is the most underused period in the whole four years: nothing is assessed, attention is free, and the specific gaps the Diploma assumes are at their most addressable. Confirm your own school's term start before planning around it.

Does my child need Additional Mathematics before IB Maths Analysis and Approaches?+

It is not required and it is the best available preparation. Cambridge 0606 introduces calculus, vectors and matrices a year early, which removes much of the first-term shock in Analysis and Approaches. The condition is secure algebra: for a student still rebuilding indices, surds and rearrangement, 0606 becomes remedial work on main-course content under a different name. Without it, three or four weeks of bridging work on notation and unscaffolded problems in the handover summer closes most of the same ground.

What does the Extended Essay timeline look like across the two Diploma years?+

It starts earlier than families expect and its milestones are set by the school rather than published nationally. Typically a subject and a supervisor are settled during the first Diploma year, a research question is agreed, and a substantial draft exists before the second year begins, with the final submission falling in the second year well ahead of the written papers. Ask the IB coordinator for the school's own milestone dates in the first month of Year 12 and build the household calendar around that document.

Is the Middle Years Programme better preparation for the Diploma than IGCSE?+

It is different preparation rather than better. MYP students arrive fluent in criterion-based assessment and in extended independent work, which is exactly where IGCSE students struggle first. IGCSE students arrive better practised at sitting a long written paper to time, which is where MYP students often need work. Each has a predictable gap, and knowing which one your child has is more useful than ranking the two programmes. Few east-coast schools run the MYP, so most Fujairah households face the IGCSE version of this.

Does IB Gram visit homes in Fujairah for either IB or IGCSE lessons?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE, for either board; tutors arriving at a family's door is a service we run only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time so the hour falls in a Fujairah evening. This page prices visiting tuition anyway, including the way its cost compounds for a two-child household, because a parent weighing the options deserves real figures for the arrangement we do not sell as well as the one we do.

How many hours a week does a household running two boards realistically need?+

Usually two, one per child, and almost never four. A weekly hour with a marked set done between sessions moves a subject; two hours a week in the same subject without the set being done does not. The exception is a short period around a collision, such as a Diploma internal deadline landing in an IGCSE mock week, where one child may need an extra session and the other's hour moves. Decide in advance whose hour gives way, rather than on the evening.

What does the Theory of Knowledge course actually require from a student?+

It is a taught course rather than an add-on, assessed by an essay written on one of the IB's prescribed titles and by an exhibition built around objects and knowledge questions. Together with the Extended Essay it contributes up to three points to the 45-point total. What it demands from students is unfamiliar: holding a question open rather than answering it, and using examples as evidence rather than as illustration. Its deadlines, like the Extended Essay's, are set inside the school during term time.

Can a student move from the IB Diploma back to A Levels after the first year?+

Sometimes, and it depends entirely on the schools involved rather than on any general rule, so it is a conversation with both the current coordinator and the receiving school rather than something to plan from a web page. What is more often available and less often used is a change of level within the Diploma, from Higher to Standard, in the early weeks of Year 12. Ask the coordinator at the start of term what that window is, so a correction is a conversation rather than an emergency.

How does equivalency differ for an IB graduate and an IGCSE plus A Level student?+

The British route is the documented one. Reported Ministry requirements are five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one A Level at no less than E or two AS Levels at the same grade. For the International Baccalaureate, no points threshold should be taken from any tutoring page, including this one, because it has not been verified on the Ministry's own site. Check moe.gov.ae or the attestation authority directly.

What does the first term of Diploma Year 1 feel like for a former IGCSE student?+

Wide rather than deep, and continuous rather than terminal. Six subjects run at once, each assuming techniques that IGCSE practised on structured questions, and the first pieces of assessed work come back marked against criteria the student has not yet learnt to read. Most students who found IGCSE comfortable have one bad month somewhere in that term, and the ones who recover fastest are the ones who did the notation and long-form writing work over the summer rather than the ones who were cleverest.

Should we start Diploma preparation during the summer after Year 11?+

A fortnight of it, yes, and it is the best-value tuition in the whole four years. Six to eight sessions aimed at mathematics notation, quantitative chemistry for anyone taking it, and one piece of long-form writing marked against criteria will remove most of the predictable first-term shock. The same work bought in February of Year 12 competes with three internal assessments and an Extended Essay for the same evenings. Keep the rest of the summer as a holiday; the household has just survived an examination series.

Which Diploma subjects do east-coast students most often need help with?+

Mathematics at both routes and Higher Level chemistry and physics, in roughly that order, followed by the Extended Essay as a process rather than a subject. The pattern reflects the transition rather than the subjects being unusually hard: all three assume quantitative fluency that IGCSE practised in a more structured form. For Fujairah families specifically, the second pattern is subjects with very small cohorts, where a student may be one of a handful and the school has no second set to join.

Find out which term each worry belongs to

Most of what a two-board household worries about is real and misdated. A Diploma level choice belongs to the handover summer, not to Year 10. An Extended Essay question belongs to the first Diploma year, not to the last term. A tier decision belongs to the autumn of Year 11, before entries close. Put both schools' calendars in one document, audit the subject gaps before the Diploma starts, and match each child separately to their own syllabus code. One free 45-minute diagnostic per family, no card details, gives you a written view of where each child actually is before anybody asks you for money.
