IB and IGCSE tutors for families in Fujairah

Fujairah sits on the Gulf of Oman with the Hajar mountains between it and Dubai, so the working pool of IB and IGCSE tutors inside the emirate is small and thins out fast once a student needs Chemistry HL or Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL. IB Gram matches your child to a subject specialist by syllabus rather than by driving distance, and teaches one to one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. Private schools here are inspected by the federal Ministry of Education, and we read that inspection report with you before any lesson is booked.

  • The Ministry of Education inspects Fujairah's private schools, not KHDA or ADEK
  • One to one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time, never group classes
  • Matched by syllabus component: 0580 Extended, 0625, Maths AA HL Paper 3, Economics HL
  • A tutor reviews and questions an Internal Assessment; never writes or supplies one

IB & IGCSE in Fujairah

Start with who inspects the school, not with who lives nearby

Fujairah is the only emirate whose coastline faces the Gulf of Oman, and the Hajar mountains stand between it and the rest of the country. That geography shapes tuition here more than anything else does. The private-school set in the emirate is small, the cohort for any single IB subject is smaller again, and a student taking Chemistry HL or Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL may be one of three or four in the whole year group. There is frequently no local specialist in that subject at all. Not because the east coast lacks good teachers, but because the arithmetic of a small cohort never produces one.

Private schools in Fujairah are inspected by the federal Ministry of Education. Not by KHDA, which parents in Dubai quote at each other, and not by ADEK, which does the same job in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Sharjah has its own authority, SPEA. On the east coast the inspecting body is the ministry itself, applying the national inspection framework with the same six judgement bands used across the country. The report it produces is the most useful free document a Fujairah parent holds, because it separates attainment from progress and judges both subject by subject and phase by phase. Read properly, it names the two subjects worth spending money on.

The report will not do your thinking for you. A judgement of Acceptable in secondary mathematics does not mean your child is fine. It means a cohort met the minimum standard the framework defines, across a year group holding thirty students with very different starting points, and a weaker student can sit a long way below that line without anyone writing it down. The framework judges a school. You are deciding about one student sitting one paper in one series. Those are different questions, and the distance between them is exactly where one-to-one teaching earns its fee.

Every lesson IB Gram arranges for a family here runs online, one to one, over live video. IB Gram does not send tutors to UAE addresses; visiting tuition is a service we run only in India. We say that in the first hundred words because the alternative on this coast is not really an alternative. Driving a Chemistry HL specialist from Sharjah over the Wadi Ham road twice a week is either not going to happen or is going to be paid for in travel time dressed up as teaching. Online one-to-one tuition in Fujairah buys the specialist instead of the commute.

So this page is built around the inspection question, because in Fujairah that question decides everything downstream: what the school can realistically cover, which subjects are carried by one teacher rather than three, and whether the gap in front of you is a whole-cohort pattern or personal to your child. Below you will find the six bands and what each one implies for a parent, the regulator map of the east coast, market rates in AED with every figure attributed, the May session counted backwards month by month, assessment weightings by paper, the Internal Assessment criteria letter by letter, the academic-honesty line a tutor does not cross, and the Ministry of Education equivalency route into UAE universities.

At a glance

  • Fujairah's private schools answer to the Ministry of Education; Khor Fakkan and Kalba, minutes up the same coast road, are Sharjah and fall under SPEA.
  • Market rates for a qualified online subject tutor in the UAE run roughly AED 150-300 an hour; visiting tuition runs AED 180-500 once travel is inside the fee.
  • IB results for the May session are published on 6 July; registration for that session closes with your school in mid-November of the year before.
  • A Maths exploration is marked out of 20 across five criteria, A to E; the science investigation is marked out of 24 across four.
  • Arabic, Islamic Studies and UAE Social Studies are ministry requirements sitting alongside the IB or IGCSE timetable rather than inside it.
  • Lessons run online, one to one, over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, with the recording and annotated script kept by the student.
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four programmes cover almost every Fujairah student who asks us for help: the IB Middle Years Programme, the IB Diploma, Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE. The transitions between them are where marks disappear, because each one assesses differently and the east coast rarely has two teachers in a subject to smooth the handover.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

The MYP assesses against four criteria per subject, each marked out of 8, and converts the total to a 1-7 grade using published boundaries. There are no papers in the IGCSE sense until the optional eAssessment in MYP 5. The habit it builds is extended, criterion-referenced writing: a student is rewarded for method, communication and reflection, not only for the right answer. Students who are strong here tend to be the ones who later write a clean Internal Assessment, because the criteria vocabulary is already familiar.

MYP students in Fujairah usually hit their first real wall at the move into DP mathematics, where a criterion-marked investigation is replaced by a timed Paper 1 with no calculator. Because year groups on the east coast are small, the MYP 5 class and the DP 1 class are often taught by the same person, so a gap in algebraic fluency can travel intact from one to the other. We diagnose from MYP criterion A and C scores before assuming the problem is the new course.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Each subject is graded 1-7, and TOK with the Extended Essay together contribute up to three bonus points, for a maximum of 45. Twenty-four points is the Diploma pass threshold, subject to the IB's conditions on failing conditions and minimum grades. Most of the grade is external: written papers sat in the session, with the internally assessed component worth 20-30% depending on the subject.

The practical problem for a Fujairah DP student is subject-level isolation. Full Diploma provision is concentrated in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi, so east-coast families are either commuting across the mountains, boarding, or studying in a small cohort where one HL subject has a single teacher and no second opinion. An IB Diploma tutor on the UAE east coast is therefore usually the student's only source of component-specific feedback: the second reader on an exploration, and the person who has marked Paper 3 before.

CAIEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Two-year courses assessed by syllabus code, with Core and Extended tiers in several subjects. Mathematics 0580 splits into Core, capped at grade C, and Extended, which reaches A*. Sciences run as separate 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry and 0610 Biology, or as Co-ordinated Sciences 0654. Most science syllabuses now assess practical skills through a written alternative-to-practical paper rather than a live examined practical, which matters for any student preparing outside a school laboratory.

Tier entry is the decision that catches Fujairah families, and it is made by the school in late February for the June series. A student entered for 0580 Core cannot be awarded above a C however well the paper goes, and the entry is not easily reversed afterwards. A Cambridge IGCSE 0580 tutor who has taught both tiers can tell you by November whether Extended is realistic, which is early enough to matter. We ask for the mock script, not the mock grade, to make that call.

EDEXCELAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Pearson's International GCSE runs the same two-year span with different codes and a different rhythm: Mathematics A is 4MA1, Physics 4PH1, Chemistry 4CH1, Biology 4BI1, English Language A 4EA1. There is a January series as well as the summer one, which gives a student a second sitting inside the same school year. Mathematics A is tiered Foundation and Higher, with papers of equal weight rather than one calculator-free paper carrying a disproportionate share.

Mixed-board timetables are common on the east coast, because small schools pick whichever syllabus suits the staff they have. A Fujairah student can easily sit Cambridge sciences and Edexcel mathematics in the same summer, with two different formula booklets and two different grade scales. An IGCSE tutor in Fujairah needs to know which board owns which subject before the first session, so we take the exact codes from the school's entry list rather than guessing from the textbook.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

These are the IB Diploma subjects Fujairah families ask about most, and each description names what the component actually assesses rather than restating the subject title. Where a subject is commonly taught by a single teacher in a small east-coast cohort, a second specialist reading the same work is worth more than extra hours.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Algebraic fluency under time pressure, with HL carrying proof by induction, complex numbers and a separate Paper 3 of long structured investigations. A Maths Analysis and Approaches HL tutor spends most of the first month on Paper 1 technique, because the no-calculator paper is where a capable student most often loses marks they already know how to earn.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and technology use, with the graphic display calculator central rather than incidental. HL adds matrices, graph theory and more demanding statistical inference. The common failure is treating AI as the easier route: the content differs from AA rather than sitting below it, and several engineering and mathematics degrees still expect AA.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Paper 1 splits into multiple choice and a data-based section; Paper 2 is extended response and carries 44% of the grade. Organic mechanisms and energetics are where east-coast students most often stall. An IB Chemistry HL tutor works from the student's own marked scripts, because the recurring loss is command-term precision rather than missing content.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics and fields reward careful algebra; the data-based questions in Paper 1B reward reading a graph properly. HL extends into rigid-body mechanics, induction and quantum phenomena. Students who arrive from MYP science without strong equation manipulation tend to lose marks in rearrangement and unit work rather than in physics.

Biology

HL and SL

Volume of terminology plus a demanding scientific investigation. The syllabus is organised around unifying themes, so a question can cross topics a student revised separately. Marks go missing in explain and outline questions where an answer lists facts without connecting them to the stated context.

Economics

HL and SL

Three Internal Assessment commentaries of up to 800 words each, worth 20% at HL and 30% at SL, plus the HL-only Paper 3 at 30% with its quantitative and policy-evaluation questions. The commentary is where most of the recoverable marks sit, because it is graded on the application of a single key concept, not on the quality of the news article chosen.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study driven, with Paper 1 built on a pre-released case and Paper 2 on unseen stimulus and quantitative tools. The Internal Assessment differs by level: HL writes a research project on a real organisation, SL a commentary on supporting documents. Evaluation, not description, is the examiner's demand in the higher mark bands.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is a guided analysis of an unseen non-literary text, 2h15 at HL and 1h15 at SL. Paper 2 is a comparative essay on studied works. HL adds the 1,200-1,500 word HL Essay. Students in the UAE often have stronger literary than non-literary reading, so Paper 1 is usually the priority.

Arabic A and Arabic B

HL and SL

Arabic A treats Arabic as a language of literature and textual analysis; Arabic B is acquisition, assessed through listening, reading, writing and an individual oral. Choosing between them affects both the DP grade and the ministry's expectations, and the choice is harder to reverse than families assume.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Paper 1 covers system fundamentals and computational thinking; HL adds abstract data structures and a case study published annually. The solution development component rewards a documented design process. Self-taught coders routinely lose marks on documentation and testing rather than on code.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

Fujairah's private schools lean towards IGCSE at Years 10 and 11, often with a mixed board list. These are the syllabuses we are asked for most, with the codes to check against your school's entry sheet before anything else is agreed.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580 / Edexcel 4MA1)

Core and Extended / Foundation and Higher

The tier decision dominates everything. 0580 Core is capped at grade C; Extended reaches A*. Edexcel 4MA1 splits Foundation and Higher across two equally weighted papers. Most lost marks in the Extended paper are in algebraic fractions, transformation of graphs and multi-step problems where working is not shown.

Additional Mathematics (0606)

Extended only

A bridge course for students heading to A-level or DP mathematics, covering calculus, trigonometric identities, vectors and series. It is taught in very few east-coast schools, so students often sit it with minimal timetabled support, which makes it one of the most common online requests we receive.

Physics (0625 / 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Electricity and electromagnetism are the reliable difficulty, followed by the alternative-to-practical paper, which asks students to design and critique an experiment in writing. Working through past alternative-to-practical papers transfers directly, because the question types repeat across series.

Chemistry (0620 / 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Moles and stoichiometry decide the grade more than any other topic, and a student who cannot do mole calculations confidently will cap out regardless of how much organic chemistry is memorised. Qualitative analysis tables and ionic equations are the other reliable mark sources.

Biology (0610 / 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Definitions have to be exact, and extended-response questions reward structured answers over long ones. Students lose marks on genetic crosses, transport in plants and the data-interpretation questions that ask them to describe a trend before explaining it.

Co-ordinated Sciences (0654)

Double Award

Three sciences compressed into a double award, usually chosen so a student can keep a broad subject list. The compression is the problem: topic coverage per hour is high and there is little classroom time to revisit anything. Revision has to be timetabled against the syllabus, not against the textbook chapters.

First Language English (0500) and English as a Second Language (0510)

Extended

0500 assesses reading passages and directed writing; 0510 assesses listening, reading, writing and speaking for second-language users. Placing a student in the wrong one is common in schools with mixed intakes, and it is a decision worth checking against a timed piece of writing rather than a teacher's impression.

Economics (0455) and Business Studies (0450)

Extended

Both reward structured evaluation and a worked diagram. In Economics the diagram is the answer, not decoration, and an unlabelled axis costs marks every time. Business Studies questions carrying eight or more marks need an applied judgement tied to the case, not a general advantage-and-disadvantage list.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families here actually book. All three are delivered online, one to one, over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, and all three produce a written record the student keeps. Group classes are not offered, because the whole argument for working online from the east coast is getting undivided specialist attention.

Weekly one-to-one by syllabus component

A fixed slot with one tutor, planned against the specific component the evidence points at rather than the subject as a whole. For a DP student that might be eight weeks on Paper 1 technique; for an IGCSE student, six weeks on mole calculations before anything else is touched. The plan is written down and revised when the next marked script arrives.

  • One tutor throughout, so nothing is re-diagnosed every month
  • Session plan tied to a named paper, criterion or syllabus section
  • Annotated script and shared notes after each lesson
  • Slot held in Gulf Standard Time around the school run and prayer times

Exam-term block from the mock script

A short, dense run of sessions starting from the actual mock paper rather than the mock grade. The tutor reads the script, lists what the markscheme awarded and what it did not, and works only on recoverable marks. From February onwards no new content is introduced unless the syllabus audit shows a real gap, because new content at that point competes with consolidation.

  • Begins with the marked script, the markscheme and the grade boundaries
  • Timed papers under real conditions, marked against the published scheme
  • Priority ordered by marks recoverable per hour, not by topic order
  • Can be paused for the school's own assessment weeks

Internal Assessment, Extended Essay and TOK review clinics

Single sessions for coursework, run as a review, not a writing service. The tutor reads what the student has produced, maps it against the published criteria, and asks the questions a supervisor would ask. The student then rewrites their own work. We keep a record of what was discussed so the school's supervisor can see exactly where the help began and ended.

  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback against the current subject guide
  • Research question stress-tested before data collection starts
  • Advice on structure, referencing and word limits
  • Nothing written, drafted, supplied or edited on the student's behalf

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Fujairah

01

Who inspects your child's school in Fujairah, and what the band actually tells you

  • Read the overall band first, then the subject and phase judgements underneath it.
  • Acceptable means the minimum standard was met, which is a floor rather than reassurance.
  • Attainment and progress are judged separately; the combination is what tells you something.
  • A subject judged below the school's overall band is the one to spend on first.

Fujairah's private schools are inspected by the federal Ministry of Education, which applies the national school inspection framework used across the country. The framework issues a single overall judgement on a six-point scale: Outstanding, Very Good, Good, Acceptable, Weak and Very Weak. Acceptable is defined as the minimum standard, not as a middling result, and that single word is the one most often misread by parents on the east coast.

The reason it is misread is that the judgement describes a school, averaged over a cohort. Your decision concerns one student sitting one paper in one series. A school judged Good can hold a mathematics department that has lost two teachers in a year, and a school judged Acceptable can have a strong single teacher in the subject your child is weakest at. The overall band is where to start reading, not where to stop.

What to do with it is practical. Find the overall band, then find the subject-level attainment and progress judgements for your child's phase, then compare the two. Where the subject judgement sits below the school's overall band, the school knows it has a problem and is probably working on it. Where attainment is acceptable but progress is weak, the cohort is coasting. Where progress is strong and attainment is low, the teaching is working and the starting point was simply behind. Those three patterns call for three different tutoring plans, and only the last one is mostly about time.

THE SIX INSPECTION BANDS AND WHAT EACH IMPLIES FOR ONE STUDENT
JudgementWhat the framework means by itWhat it usually means for one studentWhere tuition helps most
OutstandingPerformance substantially exceeds expectations across the standardsStrong teaching, but the band is awarded to the school and not to every classStretch work: HL Paper 3, A* grade boundaries, unseen application questions
Very GoodPerformance exceeds expectations in most standardsMost subjects well taught, with one or two departments carrying the averageThe single subject whose own judgement lags the school's overall band
GoodPerformance consistently meets expectationsSecure delivery with limited stretch at the top of an HL cohortDepth: command-term precision, data questions, timed conditions
AcceptablePerformance meets the minimum standard the framework definesA floor, not a comfort; a weaker student can sit well below it unnoticedDiagnosis from the last two marked scripts, then rebuilding the topic chain
WeakPerformance is below the minimum standardExpect coverage gaps and inconsistent marking feedbackA syllabus audit against the subject guide, then filling the holes it finds
Very WeakPerformance is a considerable distance below the minimum standardCoverage, staffing and assessment are all likely to be affectedTreat the published syllabus as the plan and the timetable as the supplement
02

Reading a Ministry of Education inspection report as a tutoring brief

The framework judges six performance standards. Most parents read the first and skim the rest, which wastes the useful half of the document. The standards cover students' achievement; their personal and social development and innovation skills; teaching and assessment; the curriculum; the protection, care, guidance and support of students; and leadership and management. Each one has a practical consequence for a family deciding whether to buy tuition and what to buy.

Standard one is where the subject gets named. Standard three tells you whether marking is specific enough for your child to know why a mark was lost, which is the single most common reason a capable student plateaus. Standard four explains option blocks, and it is the standard that answers the question Fujairah parents ask most often: why is the subject my child wants not on the list? A narrow curriculum judgement in a small school is usually a staffing arithmetic problem rather than a policy choice.

Standard six matters more here than it would in Dubai. In a school with one teacher per IB subject, leadership and staffing judgements translate directly into continuity. A departure mid-year in a cohort of four HL students is not a gap the school can cover internally. That is the scenario where an outside specialist stops being an enhancement and becomes the only continuous reader of the student's work across the two years of the Diploma.

One more habit worth forming: read the report your school received two cycles ago alongside the current one. Inspection reports list recommendations, and the useful question is not what the school was told to improve but whether the same recommendation appears twice. A repeated recommendation in the subject your child is weakest at tells you the gap is structural and is unlikely to close inside the two years you have. A recommendation that has disappeared tells you the department has capacity and that your money is better spent elsewhere.

THE SIX PERFORMANCE STANDARDS, READ AS A TUTORING BRIEF
StandardWhat inspectors examineWhat a low judgement here changes for you
1. Students' achievementAttainment and progress, judged separately by subject and by phaseThis is the standard that names the subject worth spending on
2. Personal and social development, innovation skillsAttitudes to learning, attendance, independence, enquiry skillsOften predicts coursework deadline slippage on the IA and Extended Essay
3. Teaching and assessmentLesson quality, marking, and whether data is used to planThin feedback means your child cannot tell you why marks were lost
4. CurriculumBreadth, balance, option blocks, links to the next phaseExplains why a subject your child wants is not available at HL
5. Protection, care, guidance and supportSafeguarding, inclusion, careers and university guidanceShows up later as late or poorly matched university applications
6. Leadership and managementLeadership capacity, self-evaluation, staffing, parent partnershipStaff turnover in a one-teacher subject is where continuity breaks
03

The regulator map of the east coast: the Ministry, SPEA and the Omani border

Nowhere else in the country is the question who regulates this school harder to answer than on this coast. Fujairah emirate is inspected by the federal Ministry of Education. Khor Fakkan and Kalba, both well inside the east coast and both a short drive from Fujairah city, are Sharjah exclaves and fall under the Sharjah Private Education Authority. Dibba is divided between Fujairah, Sharjah's Dibba Al-Hisn and Oman's Dibba Al-Baya, which puts three education systems inside one town.

This is not pedantry. The regulator sets the inspection cycle, publishes the report in its own format, governs fee increases and issues the circulars that decide term dates and Ramadan timings. Two families living ten minutes apart can be working to different calendars and reading differently structured reports about schools they are directly comparing. A parent who assumes Dubai's rules apply because Dubai's rules are what the internet discusses will get the details wrong.

For tuition the practical consequences are smaller but real. Lesson scheduling has to follow the school's actual calendar rather than a national average, which is why we ask which authority publishes your school's term dates before fixing a weekly slot. Certificate attestation and equivalency, by contrast, are federal: the Ministry of Education handles those for every emirate, so a Khor Fakkan family and a Fujairah city family follow the same route there even though their schools answer to different inspectors.

The map also explains a pattern we see in enquiries. Families in Qidfa and Mirbah often have schools in two emirates within the same half-hour drive, and they compare an inspection report written by SPEA with one written by the ministry as though the two documents were interchangeable. They are not, in format or in publication cycle, even where the underlying standards are shared. If you are weighing two schools across that line, compare the subject-level attainment and progress judgements rather than the headline band, because those are the parts that mean the same thing in both reports.

What private tuition costs around Fujairah, in AED and with sources

Most competitor pages for this query publish no price at all, and the two that do quote US dollars, which is not a currency any UAE family transacts in. Below are the AED bands we can attribute, taken from what providers publish and from Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table. They are market rates, not ours. IB Gram does not publish an hourly price list, because the right answer depends on the subject, the level and how many weeks remain before the session.

Two things distort these bands on the east coast. The first is travel. Any figure for a visiting tutor already has a drive priced into it, and from Fujairah that drive is longer than the lesson for most specialists. The second is scarcity: in a thin market the rate for a rare subject is set by availability rather than by qualification, which is how a generalist ends up charging specialist money for Chemistry HL. Monthly packages circulate too, commonly around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour visits.

What to do with the table is simple. Decide which band the teaching your child needs actually sits in, then check that what you are quoted matches that band rather than the band above it. A homework supervisor at AED 60 an hour is good value for homework supervision and poor value for an exploration that needs criterion-level feedback. Ask what the tutor has marked, not how many years they have taught.

A tutor in the room versus one-to-one online, measured from the east coast

Parents searching for a home tutor in Fujairah are asking a reasonable question, and it deserves a straight answer before anything is sold. Visiting tuition works where the specialist lives nearby. In Fujairah the specialist for a less common IB subject usually does not. Dubai and Sharjah are roughly 130 to 150 kilometres away by road, through either the Wadi Ham pass or the coast and Masafi routes, and a round trip of two to three hours sits around a 60-minute lesson.

That arithmetic produces one of two outcomes. Either the family pays for the drive, which is why visiting rates run to AED 500 an hour, or the family settles for whoever is local, which usually means a generalist covering three sciences. Neither is a good trade for an HL student. IB Gram does not send tutors to UAE addresses, and visiting tuition is a service we run only in India. Every lesson for a family here is delivered online, one to one, over live video.

The honest case for working this way is not that online is universally better. It is that the choice on this coast is between a specialist on a screen and a generalist in the room, and for a single named component the specialist wins. There are real losses: a tutor on video cannot read body language as well, and a student who will not engage without someone physically present is a poor fit. We would rather say that than pretend the format is costless.

The May 2027 session, counted backwards month by month

No competitor page for this query names a single exam session, registration deadline or results date. That is strange, because the calendar is the one part of the year that cannot be renegotiated. A Fujairah family starting tuition in October 2026 has a fixed set of dates ahead of it, and the useful planning direction is backwards from the papers rather than forwards from today.

Three deadlines do real damage when missed. IB registration closes with the school in mid-November for the following May, and that is when HL and SL levels are locked. Cambridge entries for the June series close around late February, which is when the 0580 Core or Extended decision becomes final. The IB enquiry upon results window closes in mid-September, which is the only route to a remark if a grade looks wrong against every piece of evidence you hold.

Dates below follow the usual pattern rather than a published calendar for your specific school, and schools set internal deadlines four to six weeks earlier than the board's. Confirm every one of them with your exams officer. Ramadan is expected across February and March 2027, overlapping the mock-results window, and that overlap is the single most predictable scheduling problem on this coast.

Counting backwards also reframes what tuition is for at each point in the year. From October to December the work is content and technique, because there is time to rebuild a topic chain properly. From January to February it is timed practice against published grade boundaries. From March the useful work narrows to recovering marks the student almost earns already, and from April it is markscheme reading and exam-day discipline. A family that starts in March can still move a grade; a family that starts in March expecting the October programme cannot.

Where the marks actually go missing, paper by paper

A grade is not a general level of ability. It is a total of marks awarded against a published scheme on named components, and almost every student who is stuck is stuck on one or two of them. The weightings below are the reason: a Fujairah student losing a third of Paper 1 in Maths AA SL is losing more than a student who never writes the exploration, even though the exploration feels like the bigger piece of work.

The recurring losses are specific and diagnosable. In Maths AA HL it is Paper 3, where candidates abandon the later parts of a long structured investigation rather than attempting them for method marks. In the sciences it is Paper 1B, the data-based section, which rewards careful graph reading over recall and which most revision programmes barely touch. In Economics HL it is Paper 3, where quantitative questions and the final policy evaluation sit together. In English A it is the unseen non-literary text in Paper 1.

This is also why a tutor should ask for the marked script before quoting a programme of work. A grade 4 can be a content problem, a timing problem or a command-term problem, and the three need different work. We read the script against the markscheme and the published grade boundaries, then say which component is worth the first eight weeks. If the honest answer is that the gap is small and the school is handling it, that is also a legitimate answer.

The Internal Assessment criterion by criterion, and the line a tutor does not cross

  • Mathematical exploration: 20 marks across criteria A to E, with E worth six.
  • Scientific investigation: 24 marks across four criteria of six, within 3,000 words.
  • Extended Essay: 34 marks across five criteria, within a 4,000-word limit.
  • TOK: a 1,600-word essay on a prescribed title plus an exhibition of three objects.
  • A tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback; the student writes every word.

The internally assessed component is worth 20% of most DP subjects and 30% in a few, and it is marked against published criteria with named letters and fixed mark allocations. No competitor page for this query names a single criterion. That is a gap worth closing, because the criteria are the specification: a student who knows that criterion B in a mathematical exploration carries four marks for communication writes a different document from one who thinks it is a project about a topic they like.

A mathematical exploration is marked out of 20: criterion A presentation carries four marks, B mathematical communication four, C personal engagement three, D reflection three and E use of mathematics six. The scientific investigation is marked out of 24 across four criteria of six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, within a 3,000-word limit. Economics requires three commentaries of up to 800 words each. The Extended Essay is marked out of 34 across five criteria within 4,000 words, and the TOK essay answers a prescribed title in 1,600 words.

Here is the boundary, stated plainly because one competitor in this market sells completed Internal Assessments and that is an academic-integrity breach as well as a malpractice trigger for the student. A tutor may teach the underlying content, explain what a criterion rewards, question a research question until it is answerable, point at a weak section and say why it is weak, and comment on structure and referencing. A tutor may not write, draft, rewrite, edit or supply any part of assessed work, provide a topic to be adopted wholesale, or produce data. The student authors it. We keep a record of each review session so a school supervisor can see exactly where support began and ended.

Ministry of Education equivalency, attestation and the route into UAE universities

Equivalency is federal, so it works identically for a family in Fujairah city, in Khor Fakkan and in Dubai even though three different bodies inspect those schools. The Ministry of Education issues the equivalency certificate that converts an international school-leaving qualification into something a UAE university or employer can act on, and it is the step families discover late, usually in Year 13 when an application asks for it. Nobody else writing about tuition for this query mentions it at all.

The shape of the requirement is worth knowing early, because it changes subject choices. The IB route expects the full Diploma rather than a handful of course certificates, and the Diploma's own pass threshold is 24 points with conditions on minimum grades. The British route expects a set of IGCSE or GCSE passes alongside Year 13 study at A-level and AS level, with no subject counted twice at two levels. Arabic, Islamic Studies and UAE Social Studies are required study for the students the rules cover, and they are recorded by the school, but they are not part of the counted academic subject total.

Attestation is the separate, procedural half: the certificate itself has to be verified through the issuing route and then processed through the UAE channels before the ministry will act on it. Start it before results day rather than after, because the queue lengthens every August. The published requirements do change, so treat the table below as a map of the questions to ask and confirm the current detail on the ministry's own portal before relying on any of it. MoE equivalency for IGCSE students is also the reason a student should not quietly drop to four subjects in Year 11.

Ramadan, the east-coast school day, and what happens when no specialist is free

  • Ramadan school timings are published by the ministry, so confirm them with your school rather than assuming Dubai's.
  • Post-Iftar slots of 60 minutes work better than the usual 90 during the fasting month.
  • Book exam-term intensives in November, before Ramadan and the mock window collide.
  • If no specialist in your component is free, we give a wait estimate instead of a substitute.

School days shorten during Ramadan across the UAE, and the ministry publishes the timings private schools in Fujairah follow. Ramadan is expected to fall across February and March in 2027, which lands it directly on top of the mock-results window and the start of the final revision run. That collision is predictable a year ahead, and it is the main reason we ask families to book the exam-term block in November rather than in March.

What works in practice is moving the slot rather than cancelling it. A session that sat at 5pm shifts to after Iftar, often somewhere between 8.30pm and 10pm, and a 60-minute slot works better than 90 minutes for a fasting student. Because the tutor is online and may be in a different time zone, that shift is a scheduling change rather than a logistical problem, and it can go back to the original time after Eid without renegotiating anything.

The last thing to be honest about is availability. Fujairah families ask for genuinely rare combinations: Computer Science HL, Arabic A literature, Additional Mathematics 0606, Economics HL in the weeks before Paper 3. Sometimes no specialist in that exact component is free at the hour your child can work. When that happens we say so, give an honest estimate of the wait, and offer the nearest real alternative rather than a generalist described as a specialist. A fortnight's wait for the right tutor beats eight weeks with the wrong one, and a family that is told the truth once will believe the next thing we say.

Where we tutor

Fujairah, the east coast and the places the regulator map changes

Fujairah emirate runs along the Gulf of Oman from Dibba in the north to the Omani border in the south, with inland pockets reached through the mountain passes. Several places on this coast are not in Fujairah at all, which changes who inspects the school and which term dates apply.

Fujairah city, Faseel and Sakamkam

The emirate's centre of gravity: the corniche, the port and most of its private schools. Nearly every private-school option within a short drive is here, which means one disappointing option in a subject leaves very little to switch to.

Dibba Al-Fujairah

The northern end of the coast, where a single town is split three ways between Fujairah, Sharjah and Oman. Dibba Al-Fujairah tuition requests usually come from families with a 40-minute school run each way and no appetite for a second one in the evening.

Qidfa and Mirbah

Coastal villages between Fujairah city and the Sharjah exclaves, served mainly by ministry schools. Families here are the clearest case for online tuition: the specialist does not exist within reach, and the coast road is the only way in or out.

Al Aqah and Sharm

The northern hotel strip, with a working population on shift patterns. Scheduling matters more than subject choice for these families, and a fixed evening slot that survives a parent's rota is worth more than a nominally cheaper hour.

Masafi

A mountain village on the road to Ras Al Khaimah, split between the two emirates. Either side is inspected by the federal ministry, so the emirate boundary changes the address and the term calendar more than it changes the inspection framework.

Bithnah and Wadi Ham

The inland route through the Hajar mountains towards Sharjah, and the road any visiting tutor would have to drive. In practice it is the reason a twice-weekly visit from a Sharjah specialist prices itself out before teaching starts.

Al Hayl and the inland valleys

Small settlements behind Fujairah city, where school choice narrows to whatever is reachable in the morning. Connectivity is good enough for live video, which is the only part of the equation that has improved in the last few years.

Khor Fakkan and Kalba

Both are Sharjah exclaves on the east coast, 20 to 40 minutes from Fujairah city, and both are inspected by SPEA rather than the ministry. A parent comparing two schools across that line is comparing reports written under different authorities.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Fujairah

Fujairah city and the east coast

The emirate's private-school list is short and mostly British or Indian curriculum through to IGCSE. That is the whole point of this page: a short list means a small cohort, a small cohort means one teacher per subject, and one teacher per subject means no second opinion on an HL script.

  • Our Own English High School, Fujairah
  • Fujairah Private Academy
  • Al Ameer English School, Fujairah

Sharjah and the northern emirates

The nearest alternatives across the mountains, and the schools east-coast families most often transfer into when a subject list runs out. Note that these sit under SPEA in Sharjah and under the federal ministry in Ras Al Khaimah, so the reports read differently even where the framework is shared.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Australian International School, Sharjah
  • Sharjah English School
  • RAK Academy
  • Scholars Indian School, Ras Al Khaimah

Dubai IB Diploma schools

Where full Diploma provision is actually concentrated, and where a Fujairah family relocating or boarding for Years 12 and 13 usually ends up looking. A student who stays on the east coast and studies online is competing with these cohorts in the same session, which is the honest reason component-level teaching matters.

  • Dubai International Academy, Emirates Hills
  • GEMS Modern Academy, Dubai
  • Uptown International School
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Arabian Ranches
  • Dubai American Academy

Schools are named here as ecosystem context for Fujairah families; no affiliation with, endorsement by, or representation of any named school is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the inspection report and the last two marked scripts

Not the grades, the scripts. A marked paper plus the school's most recent inspection report tells us whether the gap is personal to your child or a pattern across the cohort, and those two cases need different plans. If you do not have a script to hand, the last report card and a photograph of a recent test will do to start.

  2. 02

A short call to name the actual component

Twenty minutes, no sales script. We work out which paper, criterion or syllabus section is costing the most marks per hour of work, and say whether tuition is the right answer at all. Sometimes it is not, and sometimes the honest recommendation is six weeks rather than two terms.

  3. 03

A free trial lesson with the specialist who would teach

The trial runs with the tutor proposed for the slot, not with a coordinator. Your child works on real material and you get the tutor's written read of where the marks are. If the match is wrong, say so and we change the tutor rather than asking you to persist with it.

  4. 04

A fixed weekly slot on Gulf Standard Time

One tutor, one student, one time each week, set around the school run, prayer times and your school's own calendar rather than a generic one. Sessions are delivered online over live video. After each lesson the student keeps the annotated script and the notes, so progress is auditable rather than remembered.

  5. 05

Review against the exam calendar, not the clock

Every few weeks the plan is checked against the registration deadlines, mock dates and session dates that actually apply to your child. From February onwards the work shifts to timed papers and markscheme reading, and new content is only introduced if a syllabus audit shows a genuine gap.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We read the Ministry of Education report with you

Fujairah's private schools are inspected by the federal ministry, and the report is the best free diagnostic a parent has. We read the subject and phase judgements with you before recommending anything, because the subject lagging the school's overall band is usually the subject worth paying for first.

Matched by syllabus, not by driving distance

The east coast's tutor pool is thin, so matching by proximity means matching by chance. We match on the component your child is actually assessed on: 0580 Extended, 0625, Maths AA HL Paper 3, Economics HL Paper 3. The tutor's claim to the subject is what they have taught and marked.

One tutor, one student, every session

No group classes and no rotating tutors. The same person reads every script for the full programme, which is what makes a diagnosis stick instead of being redone each month. In a cohort where one teacher covers an HL subject alone, that continuity is often the only second reading a student's work gets.

Explicit about the academic-honesty line

A tutor here teaches content, explains what a criterion rewards, questions a research question and says why a paragraph is weak. A tutor does not write, draft, edit or supply assessed work. We log each coursework review so a school supervisor can see where help began and ended, which protects the student's own authorship.

Market rates published, our own model explained

The AED bands on this page are attributed to the providers and the rate table they came from, because a parent deciding between options needs the real numbers. IB Gram does not publish an hourly list; the first step is a free trial and a short call, and the price depends on subject, level and weeks remaining.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Fujairah: your questions answered

Which authority inspects private schools in Fujairah?+

The federal Ministry of Education. Dubai's private schools are inspected by KHDA, Abu Dhabi's and Al Ain's by ADEK, and Sharjah's by SPEA, but Fujairah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain sit with the ministry directly. It applies the same national inspection framework and the same six judgement bands, from Outstanding down to Very Weak, so the vocabulary in the report will look familiar to anyone who has read a Dubai one. The practical differences are where the report is published, who issues the circulars that set term dates and Ramadan timings, and which body handles a complaint about the school.

What does an Acceptable inspection judgement actually mean for my child's maths?+

It means the school's performance met the minimum standard the framework defines, averaged across a cohort. It is a floor, not reassurance. A year group judged Acceptable in secondary mathematics can contain students working two grades apart, and a weaker student can sit well below the line without it appearing anywhere. Read the subject-level attainment and progress judgements for your child's phase, then compare them with the overall band. If attainment is acceptable but progress is weak, the cohort is coasting and the work is pace. If progress is strong and attainment low, teaching is working and the starting point was simply behind.

How much do IB and IGCSE tutors charge around Fujairah?+

Market rates in the UAE run roughly AED 45-150 an hour for a budget or university-student tutor, AED 150-300 for a qualified online subject tutor, AED 180-500 for visiting tuition once travel is inside the fee, and AED 200-450 or more for an IB or IGCSE specialist. Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200, TutorChase publishes AED 270, and BartyED publishes AED 650 at the examiner end. Those are other providers' figures and Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table, not ours. IB Gram does not publish an hourly list; the first step is a free trial and a short call.

Is it realistic to get a subject specialist to drive to Fujairah twice a week?+

Rarely, and the arithmetic is the reason rather than any policy. Dubai and Sharjah are roughly 130 to 150 kilometres away over the Hajar mountains, so a round trip runs two to three hours around a 60-minute lesson. Either that drive is priced into the fee, which is how visiting rates reach AED 500 an hour, or the tutor is local and usually a generalist covering several sciences. IB Gram does not send tutors to UAE addresses; visiting tuition is a service we run only in India. Lessons for Fujairah families are delivered online, one to one, over live video.

Does a school in Dibba Al-Fujairah fall under the Ministry of Education or under Sharjah's SPEA?+

It depends which Dibba. The town is split three ways: Dibba Al-Fujairah is in Fujairah and inspected by the federal ministry, Dibba Al-Hisn is a Sharjah exclave inspected by SPEA, and Dibba Al-Baya is in Oman's Musandam governorate under Omani authorities. Khor Fakkan and Kalba, further south on the same coast, are also Sharjah and also SPEA. So two families living minutes apart can be reading differently structured reports and working to different term calendars. Check which authority publishes your school's term dates before you fix a weekly tuition slot around them.

My daughter is one of three students taking Chemistry HL. Can tuition fix being in such a small cohort?+

It cannot change the cohort, but it addresses the actual consequence of it. A class of three usually means one teacher, no second opinion on a script, and no moderating comparison with a larger group. What an outside specialist adds is a second reader: someone who has marked Paper 2 extended responses before, who can tell your daughter whether an answer meets the command term, and who reads the scientific investigation against criteria A to D rather than against a general impression. That second reading is the part a small cohort structurally cannot provide, and it matters most in the exploration and in Paper 1B data questions.

When does registration close for the IB May session?+

Registration closes with your school in mid-November of the previous year, with a late window running to mid-January and additional fees attached. That November deadline is when HL and SL levels and any subject change are effectively locked, so a decision about dropping an HL has to be made in the autumn rather than after the mocks. Results for the May session are published on 6 July, and the enquiry upon results window, which is how a remark is requested, closes in mid-September. Schools set their own internal deadlines four to six weeks ahead of the board's, so confirm the exact dates with your exams officer.

How are IGCSE science practicals assessed if my child is tutored online?+

In most current Cambridge and Edexcel science syllabuses the practical skills are assessed through a written alternative-to-practical paper rather than a live examined practical, so what a student needs is the ability to design an experiment, identify variables, read apparatus correctly and criticise a method in writing. That work transfers to a screen without loss, and past alternative-to-practical papers are the most efficient preparation there is because the question types repeat across series. Laboratory work for coursework or school assessment stays with the school. Check the exact syllabus code on your school's entry sheet, because the assessment pattern differs between boards and between subjects.

Can a tutor help with the Maths exploration without breaking the IB's honesty rules?+

Yes, within a clear boundary. A tutor can teach the mathematics, explain what each criterion rewards, press on whether the research question is answerable, point at an undefined variable or an unlabelled axis and explain the cost, and comment on structure and referencing. A tutor cannot write, draft, rewrite, edit or supply any part of the exploration, hand over a topic to be adopted whole, or produce the data. One provider in this market sells completed Internal Assessments outright; that is an integrity breach and a malpractice risk carried by the student, not the seller. We log each review session so a supervisor can see where help began and ended.

What does the Ministry of Education want for equivalency if my son sits IGCSEs and then A-levels?+

The British route expects a set of IGCSE or GCSE passes at grade C or 4 and above, with Year 13 study at A-level and AS level above them, and no subject counted twice at two different levels. IGCSE on its own is treated as the Grade 10 or 11 stage rather than a school-leaving qualification, which is why dropping to four subjects in Year 11 can create a problem two years later. The certificate also has to be attested through the issuing route and the UAE channels before the ministry acts on it. Requirements are published and do change, so confirm the current list on the ministry's portal.

Are Arabic and Islamic Studies counted in the equivalency subject total?+

No. They are required study for the students the ministry's rules cover, and the school records that study, but they are not part of the counted academic subject total used for equivalency. That catches families out in both directions: some assume Arabic will fill a subject slot and find it does not, and others treat it as optional and discover the school is obliged to timetable it. UAE Social Studies sits in the same category. Plan the counted subjects separately from the required ones, and ask your school in writing which of your child's subjects it expects to submit for equivalency.

How does the shortened Ramadan school day change our weekly tuition slot?+

School days shorten during Ramadan under timings the ministry publishes for Fujairah's schools, so an afternoon slot that worked in January usually stops working. Most families here move the session to after Iftar, commonly between 8.30pm and 10pm, and cut it from 90 minutes to 60 for a fasting student. Because the tutor is working online rather than driving over the mountains, that is a calendar change and nothing more, and the slot returns to its original time after Eid. Ramadan is expected across February and March in 2027, directly over the mock-results window, so book the exam-term block in November.

Does a private tutor in Fujairah need a permit?+

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated through MoHRE, which issues a private tutor permit, and every regulatory source we checked states that the permit itself is issued free of charge. The requirement is federal, so it applies on the east coast exactly as it does in Dubai. An employed applicant may need their employer's agreement, and tutoring at a scale that becomes a business is treated differently from individual tutoring. Penalties for tutoring without a permit have been reported without published figures, so treat any specific fine amount circulating online with caution and check the current terms on the MoHRE portal.

How late in Year 11 can we start IGCSE tuition and still change the grade?+

Later than most parents fear, with one hard constraint: the tier entry. A student entered for Cambridge Mathematics 0580 Core cannot be awarded above a C however good the paper is, and entries for the June series close around late February. Inside the right tier, a focused run from February is often enough to move a grade, because the work is recovering marks already nearly earned rather than learning new content. We start from the mock script, list what the markscheme awarded and what it refused, and order the work by marks recoverable per hour. What rarely works is new content from April onwards.

What happens if no tutor covers the exact subject we need?+

We tell you, give an honest estimate of the wait, and offer the nearest real alternative rather than a generalist relabelled as a specialist. Fujairah families ask for genuinely rare combinations: Additional Mathematics 0606, Computer Science HL, Arabic A literature, Economics HL in the final weeks before Paper 3. For a component as specific as Paper 3 that can mean a fortnight's wait for the right person. A fortnight's wait beats eight weeks with the wrong tutor, and it is also the only answer that survives the second conversation.

Should my child take Maths Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation?+

Start from the degree, not from the perceived difficulty. Analysis and Approaches is algebraic and proof-oriented, with a calculator-free Paper 1 and, at HL, a separate Paper 3 of long investigations. Applications and Interpretation is modelling and statistics with the calculator central throughout. Engineering, mathematics, physics and many computer science courses, in the UAE and abroad, still expect Analysis and Approaches, often at HL, while economics, business and life-science routes commonly accept either. Check the stated entry requirements of three target universities before the November registration deadline, because changing route after that point is difficult.

Flag of Fujairah

Start with the report, then the script, then the slot

If your child is in a Fujairah school, you already hold the two documents that matter: the ministry's inspection report and the last marked paper. Send both. We will read the subject and phase judgements against the script, say which component is costing the most marks, and tell you whether tuition is the right answer or whether the school is already handling it. If it is the right answer, the next step is a free trial with the specialist who would actually teach the slot, delivered online, one to one, on Gulf Standard Time. If the specialist is not free, we will say that too.
