IB Home Tutor in Fujairah

Parents searching for an IB home tutor in Fujairah are rarely attached to the word home. They want a plan with a start date and an end point: where their child is now, where they need to be by the papers, and what the weeks in between contain. This page sets that out term by term, answers honestly what visiting tuition costs on the east coast, and explains why the teaching itself is delivered one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time rather than at a Fujairah address.

  • A dated plan after the first session, not an open-ended weekly habit
  • Reviewed against the next school assessment, not after a set week count

IB & IGCSE in Fujairah

Where your child is now, where they need to be, and the weeks in between

Almost every parent who types this phrase is asking a timing question wearing a logistics costume. The anxiety is not about who stands in the room. It is that a Diploma year is running, a report has come home that nobody can interpret, and there is no clear sense of whether the gap between now and the papers is four weeks of work or four months. That question has an answer, and it can be reached in one diagnostic session rather than guessed at over a term of pleasant weekly meetings.

The honest part first, because the rest of the page depends on it. Visiting tuition exists in Fujairah and families here do buy it. Published market rates for in-home one-to-one tuition in the UAE run AED 180-500 per hour with travel priced inside the fee, and monthly packages of four two-hour visiting sessions have been advertised at AED 1,599-1,799. For a household in Fujairah City with a child in Year 9 who needs supervision and routine, that can be money well spent. IB Gram does not sell it. Visiting tuition is a service offered only in India, and nobody will be sent to a Fujairah address.

What IB Gram arranges is one-to-one teaching delivered live over video, in Gulf Standard Time. On this coast the argument for that is not cost and not convenience; it is reach and continuity. The Hajar mountains put the Dubai school belt two to three hours away by road, so a visiting specialist is paying for the drive twice per lesson. The mountain road closes after heavy rain. Slots stop moving because rescheduling costs somebody a round trip. Over two years that arithmetic decides how many lessons actually happen, and lessons that happen are the only ones that change a mark.

The timeline itself is more predictable than parents expect, because the Diploma has a fixed shape. There is a diagnostic phase, lasting one session. There is a content phase, where identified gaps get rebuilt, which usually runs six to fourteen weeks for one subject. There is a technique phase, where knowledge becomes marks, driven by timed papers and mark schemes. Then there is the final stretch, where new content stops entirely. Cutting across all of it are the school's own internal deadlines for the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and each subject's assessed component, which run on dates the school chooses rather than the examination timetable.

The rest of this page walks that sequence in order, says what each phase can and cannot achieve, and gives a table for families starting late with a realistic aim for each remaining window. It also covers the two things that break timelines on the east coast specifically: the shortened Ramadan school day, and assessed components landing in the same fortnight. If your child is in DP2 with one term left, skip to the section on starting late. If you are in DP1 with nothing obviously wrong, the diagnostic section is the one worth reading.

At a glance

  • One session is enough to establish whether the gap is content, technique or pacing
  • Visiting tuition in the UAE: AED 180-500 per hour with travel inside the fee, published October 2026
  • Rebuilding one identified component typically takes six to fourteen weeks, not a year
  • School-set internal deadlines, not the exam timetable, decide what is urgent
  • Delivery is online one-to-one; visiting tuition is offered only in India
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Each programme has its own milestone calendar, and the milestones are what a plan is built around. These are the four that matter on the east coast, described by when the pressure arrives rather than by what the programme contains.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Two years with the load concentrated unevenly. DP1 looks quiet and is not: subject choices, Higher Level levels, the Extended Essay question and the first assessed drafts are all decided inside it. DP2 is where everything internally assessed falls due, usually before the mock season, which is why a student who leaves the core until DP2 is revising and writing at the same time.

A Fujairah student is more exposed to this than a Dubai one, because a small school coordinates the whole programme through fewer people. There is often no dedicated core team chasing a timetable, so an Extended Essay deadline in DP1 passes without anyone noticing until the draft is already late.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Assessed continuously against four criteria per subject, each out of eight, so there is no single point where everything is decided. The Personal Project in the final year is the first long self-managed piece a student writes, and how it goes is a fair predictor of how the Extended Essay will go two years later.

For east-coast families the useful MYP milestone is the options conversation in Year 9, because what is chosen there determines which Diploma or IGCSE routes a local school can actually staff. That conversation happens earlier than most parents here expect it to.

CAIEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

The milestone that catches families out is the entry deadline rather than the exam. Take Pearson's International GCSE November series: the November 2026 papers run from late October to 19 November 2026, yet the centre has to have lodged the entry long before any of that, and results only reach students in January. The Cambridge series a UAE candidate can sit are June and November, each with a closing date published ahead of the papers and repeated on the statement of entry. Tier and subject are fixed at entry, months before anybody sits a paper.

Because east-coast schools sit as Cambridge centres allocated to an administrative zone, the correct timetable version depends on that zone, and Cambridge states it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who use the wrong one. Ask the school which zone it sits in before planning the final weeks.

EDEXCELAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Examined in a May or June window and again in November, which creates a second attempt inside the same academic year. Pearson's November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

The November window matters on this coast because repeating a year is rarely practical when school choice is limited. A student who underperforms in June can re-sit in November without changing school, and the planning question becomes which subjects are worth the second attempt rather than whether to move.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the subjects east-coast families ask about, described by when in the course the difficulty usually arrives. Knowing the month a subject tends to bite is what turns a vague worry into a dated plan.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Bites in the second term of DP1, when the algebra stops being revision of IGCSE and starts assuming fluency. Students who were comfortable to that point often slip quietly. The exploration lands in DP1 or early DP2 and competes directly with content revision for the same hours.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Difficulty arrives later, usually in the statistics and modelling units, and shows up as interpretation rather than calculation. A plan here is often shorter than for Analysis and Approaches: six to eight weeks to establish the habit of writing what a result means.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Two pressure points: moles and stoichiometry early in DP1, organic mechanisms in DP2. The scientific investigation is normally due in DP2 before mocks, so a student with an unresolved content gap is writing it while still behind, which is the worst sequence available.

Physics

HL and SL

Fields and circuits are where east-coast students most often stall, generally in the middle of DP1. Uncertainty treatment surfaces late, in the investigation, and is a fast fix once identified. The ten-week window after the DP1 mock is the most productive one in this subject.

Biology

HL and SL

Rarely produces a dramatic failure and often produces a disappointing grade, because the revision method is the problem rather than the content. Gains come in a short block converting recall into extended-response structure, not in a year of weekly content coverage.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy decides the analysis marks before the evaluation is read, and the Higher Level third paper arrives late in DP2 with quantitative questions students have never systematically practised. Budget specific weeks for Paper 3 rather than assuming it falls out of general revision.

Business Management

HL and SL

The assessed research project is the timeline risk. A topic too broad to answer in the word limit is chosen in a busy week and the problem is baked in before the first draft. Fixing it after the data has been collected is expensive in weeks.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The Individual Oral is the component families forget to plan for, because it has no written deadline attached in most schools' minds. It needs a global issue argued rather than announced, and that argument takes weeks of practice rather than one rehearsal.

English B

HL and SL

Productive skills under timed conditions improve steadily rather than suddenly, so this is one of the few subjects where a long, low-intensity arrangement genuinely beats a short block. Start early and keep sessions short.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 and Pearson 4MA1

Core and Extended tier

The tier decision in Year 10 is the real deadline, because it sets a ceiling on the grade and is fixed at entry. A borderline student has a genuine window in the first term of Year 10 and a much narrower job once entries have gone.

Arabic and Islamic Education

Required study alongside the licensed curriculum

Runs in parallel all year with first-language and additional-language streams taught separately. The timeline issue is that it is never the subject a family plans for, so it absorbs hours in the exam term that were budgeted for something else.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of working, each defined by how long it runs rather than by what it covers. All are one-to-one and delivered live over video in Gulf Standard Time, and each has a stated end point so a family knows what it is committing to.

Diagnostic session, one off

A single session that reads the last two marked scripts and the school's internal deadline list, then produces a written assessment of what is actually wrong and how many weeks it is likely to take. Families regularly buy only this and act on it themselves, which is a legitimate outcome.

  • No commitment to anything beyond the hour
  • Output is a written plan naming components and a sequence
  • Identifies whether the gap is content, technique or pacing
  • Flags any internal deadline that is closer than the family thought

Dated block of six to fourteen weeks

A fixed-length block aimed at one identified component, with a review point set at the school's next assessment rather than at a week count. It ends on a stated date, so renewing is a decision rather than a default.

  • Length set by the gap, not by a standard package
  • Reviewed on whether marks moved in the targeted component
  • Can be paused for mock weeks by agreement in advance
  • Ends on a date with no rolling renewal

Long low-intensity arrangement across two years

Shorter, more frequent sessions for the subjects that improve gradually rather than in blocks: second-language work, written expression, and students who need the habit more than the content. Suited to starting in DP1 rather than reacting in DP2.

  • Shorter sessions, higher frequency, lower weekly cost per session
  • Built around the school's teaching order across both years
  • Slots move inside the week when a school event intervenes
  • Reviewed each term against the school's own assessments

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Fujairah

01

What a home tutor in Fujairah actually involves, and what happens here instead

Take the question literally for a moment, because it deserves a straight answer. Hiring someone to teach your child at a Fujairah address means hiring from the people who live within a sensible drive of it. In Fujairah City that is a real if small pool for general academic support. In Dibba, Qidfa or Mirbah it is a very short list, and for a Higher Level Diploma subject it is frequently empty. The hourly rate reflects the travel: published market figures for visiting one-to-one tuition in the UAE run AED 180-500, against AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor working online, and advertised monthly packages of four two-hour visiting sessions have sat at AED 1,599-1,799.

There is a legal dimension worth knowing before anybody is invited round. Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted and regulated: individuals giving private lessons need a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years and applied for through MoHRE's smart app, website and e-services system with a two-working-day completion time. MoHRE states that anyone tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so any amount quoted online should be treated as unverified. Ask to see the permit. It costs the tutor nothing to hold.

IB Gram does not provide in-person tutoring in Fujairah, and no tutor will be sent to a Fujairah address; visiting tuition is offered only in India. The teaching here is one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. The case for that on this coast is specific and it is about the calendar rather than the technology: a plan that depends on somebody driving the mountain road loses lessons to weather, traffic and the ordinary friction of rescheduling, and lost lessons in February are not recoverable in April. The table sets the two arrangements against each other on the terms that decide a timeline.

02

Step one: establishing where your child actually is

  • Bring the last two marked scripts, not the report card
  • Four diagnoses, four plan lengths: method, pacing, command terms, content
  • Ask the school for its internal deadline list in writing
  • Expect a written plan naming components after the first session

Everything downstream depends on this and almost nobody does it first. The usual sequence is that a report arrives, a grade looks wrong, and a weekly session is booked in that subject. Three months later the grade has not moved, because the session was aimed at the syllabus when the problem was two paper sections. One diagnostic hour, worked from the last two marked scripts, replaces that guess with a target.

What a diagnosis actually reads is the pattern of lost marks rather than the total. Method marks gone on questions where the final answer is right point at working and presentation. Marks draining through the last third of a paper point at pacing, which is a different fix entirely. Answers that are factually correct and still score below band point at command terms: describe answered as explain, deduce answered as state. Whole questions untouched, or working that fails at the same step every time, point at genuine content gaps. Those four diagnoses lead to four different plans of four different lengths.

The second document to put on the table is the school's internal deadline list for the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and each subject's assessed component. These dates are set by the school rather than by the examination timetable, and they differ between schools sitting the same session. On the east coast, where a small staff coordinates the whole programme, they are also the dates most likely to arrive unannounced. A plan built without them will aim a term of sessions at content revision while an assessed draft quietly goes late, and that is the single most common way tutoring money is wasted in a Diploma year.

03

The first six weeks: rebuilding what is actually missing

Content gaps are the slowest thing to fix and the most satisfying to watch close. The work is unglamorous: find the earliest point in the topic chain where understanding failed, rebuild from there, and resist the temptation to start at the point where the school currently is. A student who cannot rearrange an equation reliably will not be rescued by more practice on the topic that exposed it, and in a Diploma subject the exposed topic is usually three steps downstream of the actual break.

Six weeks is the realistic floor for one substantial gap in one subject, assuming a weekly session and work done between them. That is worth saying plainly because the market tends not to. A family starting in week one of a block should expect the first two sessions to look like going backwards, the middle two to feel slow, and the change to appear in the school's own assessment rather than in how the sessions feel. Judging progress by whether a lesson went well is the least reliable instrument available.

Two practical notes for this phase on the east coast. First, follow the school's teaching order rather than the textbook's, because a student who is behind cannot afford to be learning two sequences at once; that means the tutor needs to know what was covered in class last week. Second, protect the phase from the core. If an Extended Essay draft or an assessed component falls inside these six weeks, the content work has to be shortened rather than squeezed alongside, because a student doing both badly in the same fortnight is the position this whole exercise exists to avoid.

04

Weeks seven to fourteen: turning what they know into marks

This is the phase families skip, and it is where most of the recoverable marks live. A student who understands the material and still scores below expectation is losing marks in the translation: the question is read wrongly, the command term is answered generically, working is not written down, time is allocated badly across a paper. None of that is content, so no amount of further teaching fixes it. The work is timed questions, marked against the published scheme, with the mark scheme read afterwards line by line.

Reading a mark scheme is a skill in itself and it transfers across subjects. Students are usually astonished by how mechanical the marks are: a point scored for naming a variable, a point for a unit, a point for a comparison word. Once a student has seen three mark schemes for the same style of question, they start writing for the marker rather than for themselves, and the score moves without a single new fact being learned. In the sciences, where Paper 2 extended response carries 44 per cent, this is the highest-return work available in the whole Diploma.

Pacing is handled here too, and it needs real papers under real time. A student who scores well on untimed practice and badly in the hall is not short of knowledge; they are short of a plan for the hour. Working out how long each section may take, deciding in advance what to do when a question will not come, and practising the decision to leave something and come back are all trainable. Eight weeks is a comfortable window for this phase. Four weeks will shift one paper. Two weeks will shift one section, which is still worth having if that section is where the marks are.

05

The final stretch: what stops and what continues

In the last weeks before the papers, new content stops. This is the hardest instruction to follow and the most reliable one. A student learning a new topic in the final fortnight is spending the scarcest hours of the year on the least secure material, and doing it in place of consolidating the eighty per cent they already half know. The exception is narrow: a single identified topic that carries disproportionate weight and is genuinely absent rather than shaky.

What continues is timed practice, mark scheme reading and the mechanical business of exam logistics. For Cambridge and Pearson candidates, confirm which series and which timetable version applies, because Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who use the wrong zone's timetable. For Diploma candidates, confirm dates with the school's coordinator. This page publishes no IB session or results date, because the IB's own assessment pages could not be verified for this project and an unverified exam date on a page like this is worse than no date at all.

The other thing that continues is sleep, and it is not a soft point. Students on this coast with long bus journeys are already losing an hour a day to travel, and families regularly add a late-evening session in the final fortnight that costs more in concentration than it returns in content. In the last two weeks the sensible pattern is shorter sessions, earlier, with a hard stop. If a tutor proposes intensifying in the final week, ask what will be dropped to make room, because something always is.

06

Starting late: what each remaining window can realistically achieve

A large share of enquiries from this coast arrive with the clock already running, and the useful answer is neither reassurance nor refusal. Each remaining window has a realistic aim, and naming it honestly is what lets a family decide whether the spend is worth it. The pattern below is drawn from how these blocks actually run rather than from what sounds encouraging.

Two principles run through all of it. The shorter the window, the narrower the aim: with a term left the target is a component, with six weeks it is a paper, with a fortnight it is a section. And the shorter the window, the more important it is to drop something. A student with four weeks who adds two sessions a week to an unchanged workload will do everything slightly worse. Deciding what comes off the list is part of the plan, not an afterthought, and it is a conversation for the family rather than the tutor to settle.

One more thing is worth saying for DP1 families reading this with nothing obviously wrong. The cheapest intervention in the whole Diploma is a single diagnostic session in the first term of DP1, when the Extended Essay question is still open, the Higher Level levels can still change, and a content gap can be closed before the course assumes it. Nobody searches for a tutor at that point, which is exactly why the phase is worth mentioning here.

07

Where the timeline breaks on the east coast

Plans fail for predictable reasons here, and all of them can be scheduled around if they are named in advance. The shortened Ramadan school day changes the whole rhythm for several weeks, and it lands in the part of the year where mocks have just been marked and the papers are close. A late-afternoon slot that worked all year stops working; a session after Iftar usually holds. Agreeing that shift before the month begins rather than during it is the difference between an adjusted plan and three missed weeks.

The second break is the collision of assessed components. Schools set their own internal deadlines, and two of them landing in the same fortnight is common rather than unlucky. A student with the scientific investigation and an Extended Essay draft due together will do both badly unless something gives. The adjustment is to pause content teaching for that fortnight and use the sessions for process coaching on whichever piece carries the most marks, which is a decision that needs the school's deadline list in hand.

The third is travel and the fourth is the school calendar itself. Families on this coast travel in the long breaks, often for extended periods, and the honest options are to continue over video from wherever they are, or to stop cleanly and restart with a short re-diagnosis rather than pretending a six-week gap did not happen. School events, fixtures and club commitments produce the slow version of the same problem: a slot that cannot move gets cancelled, and three cancellations become a lapsed arrangement. Building the ability to shift a lesson inside the week into the agreement at the start is worth more over two years than any difference in hourly rate.

FOUR PREDICTABLE DISRUPTIONS AND THE ADJUSTMENT EACH ONE NEEDS

08

What the timeline costs, stage by stage

Spreading the cost over the sequence makes it easier to judge than an hourly rate does, because the pattern changes as the plan progresses. A diagnostic is one hour. A content block is weekly for six to fourteen weeks. A technique block is often twice weekly for a shorter period. The final stretch is short sessions, more often, for two or three weeks. A family that budgets a flat weekly figure for two years is usually over-buying in the quiet terms and under-buying in the one that matters.

The figures in the table are market rates published by named providers in October 2026, not IB Gram's prices. They are given so a family can size the commitment before starting rather than discovering it in month four. For what a specific subject, level and session length would cost, the route is a short consultation followed by one trial session per family at no charge, arranged after that conversation. There is no term block to exit and no package that renews unless somebody asks for it.

It is worth putting the number in context rather than in isolation. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai will not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. School fees holding steady does not hold tutoring costs steady, but it does mean a family planning an exam year has one fewer variable. Set the tutoring figure against school fees, exam entry costs for any private-candidate subject, and the travel a visiting arrangement would add, and the comparison usually settles itself.

09

What stays the student's own work, whatever the deadline

The pressure points in a timeline are exactly where the honesty line gets tested, so it belongs on this page rather than in a footnote. A student two days from an internal deadline with an unfinished draft is the moment a family is most likely to be offered something they should refuse. A tutor may teach the skills the task assesses, read the criteria with the student, discuss the student's own ideas and give feedback on a draft the student wrote. A tutor may not write it, rewrite it to completion, or hand over a model to adapt.

The consequence of crossing that line falls on the candidate, not the tutor. An academic-honesty finding is a far worse outcome than a late or weak piece of coursework, and it is not a theoretical risk: one site ranking in this market sells completed internal assessments outright. If the deadline really is tomorrow, the useful help is triage. Work out what can be finished honestly, what has to be submitted incomplete, and what the school needs to be told, and then do that rather than buying a problem.

Materials follow the same rule. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to the IB, Cambridge and Pearson, and are referenced and linked at source rather than redistributed as a folder of downloads. A tutor who offers everything is convenient in the short run and is distributing somebody else's copyright. Ask the school which documents it has already provided; on the east coast the answer is often more than the family realised.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Fujairah

Where you live in Fujairah changes what time a session can start and how reliably it holds, which is a timeline question rather than a geography one. These are the districts enquiries come from and the practical constraint in each.

Fujairah City

Shortest school run in the emirate, so a four o'clock start is realistic for most households. The timeline risk here is the opposite of distance: families delay starting because everything feels accessible, then begin in DP2.

Al Faseel

Corniche sports and club commitments run late, pushing a sustainable weekday slot past five. Two shorter sessions a week usually survive the term better here than one long evening that collides with fixtures.

Sakamkam

A mixed-curriculum intake where school reports rarely identify the component at fault, so the diagnostic session earns its place more clearly than elsewhere. Early-evening slots hold well once activities end.

Merashid

Residential and close to the city schools. Households here often have children in two different year groups, which makes back-to-back slots the practical arrangement and a single visiting appointment awkward to price.

Madhab and Al Gurfa

A steady turnover of posted families means mid-year arrivals are common. A student joining a Diploma cohort in DP1 mid-term needs a compressed version of the whole sequence, starting with what the new school has already taught.

Dibba Al-Fujairah

An hour up the coast with minimal school choice in range. School buses arrive late, so a realistic first slot is after five, and any plan depending on a weekly drive from the city has a continuity problem built in.

Qidfa and Mirbah

Long gaps between settlements on the northern coast road. Timeline reliability here comes from the arrangement not requiring travel at all, which is the whole reason video sessions dominate this stretch.

Masafi and the inland route

On the road west, split between Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah. After heavy rain the route closes, which turns a visiting lesson into a lost week at the point in the year when weeks stop being recoverable.

Campuses families consider for sixth form

Where a Higher Level combination is not available locally, these are the realistic alternatives, usually on a weekly-boarding or relocation basis. Named as context for a decision, not as a daily commute over the mountain road.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • Uptown International School
  • Ajman Academy
  • RAK Academy - International School Al Hamra

Schools are named as context for Fujairah families; IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation with, endorsement by, or representation of any named school.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Book the diagnostic before anything else

One session, worked from the last two marked scripts and the school's internal deadline list. The output is a written statement of what is wrong and roughly how many weeks it will take. Families who act on it themselves and buy nothing further have still had the most useful hour available.

  2. 02

Fix the end date before the start date

Agree how long the block runs and what the review point is, which should be the school's next assessment rather than a count of weeks. A block with a stated end makes renewing a decision. An open arrangement renews by default and nobody notices the target has drifted.

  3. 03

Decide what comes off the list

Adding sessions to an unchanged week makes everything slightly worse. Before the block starts, settle which commitment pauses, which subject stops getting general revision, and what happens in mock weeks. That conversation belongs to the family; the tutor's job is to say what the plan requires.

  4. 04

Agree the Ramadan and travel adjustments up front

Sessions after Iftar hold better than late-afternoon ones, and extended travel is easier handled as a clean pause with a re-diagnosis than as a silent lapse. Both decisions are cheap to make in September and expensive to make in March.

  5. 05

Review on the marks, then change the aim

At the review point, the only question is whether marks moved in the component the plan targeted. If they did, continue or stop. If they did not, the aim was wrong and the plan changes rather than the hours increasing. Buying more of a plan that is not working is the commonest mistake in this market.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

A dated plan, not an open weekly habit

Every block has a stated length and a review point set at the school's next assessment. Nothing renews by default. The point of an end date is that it forces somebody to look at whether the marks moved, which an open-ended arrangement never does.

The diagnosis comes before the teaching

The first session reads marked scripts and internal deadlines rather than opening a textbook. Four different patterns of lost marks lead to four different plans of four different lengths, and guessing between them costs a term.

Continuity that weather cannot interrupt

Nothing in the arrangement depends on the Hajar road being open or on a two-to-three-hour round trip remaining attractive in February. Slots shift inside the same week at no cost, which over two years is worth more lessons than any hourly discount.

Visiting-tuition rates published honestly

The in-home option is described with its real market cost, AED 180-500 per hour with travel inside the fee, attributed and dated to October 2026. IB Gram does not sell it in the UAE and says so rather than leaving the question open.

No exam date published that could not be verified

Cambridge and Pearson dates on this page come from the boards' own published key dates. No IB session or results date appears, because the IB's assessment pages could not be verified for this project. Confirm Diploma dates with your child's coordinator.

Independent, and plain about the limits

IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform holding no approval, accreditation or partnership from the IB, Cambridge, Pearson, the Ministry of Education or any emirate authority. No school named here is a client, and coursework support never includes producing the work.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Fujairah: your questions answered

Does anyone come to our house in Fujairah for the lessons?+

No. IB Gram does not provide visiting tuition anywhere in the UAE; that service is offered only in India. Teaching arranged here is one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time around the Fujairah school day. Visiting tutors do exist on this coast and families do hire them, with published market rates running AED 180-500 per hour because the travel is priced into the lesson. If you go that route, ask to see the tutor's MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is granted free of charge for two years and which any working tutor has no reason not to hold.

What should the first two weeks of tutoring actually produce?+

A written target, not a feeling. The first session should read the last two marked scripts and the school's internal deadline list and come back with a short document naming which papers or criteria the marks are sitting in, which two or three topics come first and in what order, and when the plan will be reviewed. By the end of the second session you should know roughly how many weeks the gap is likely to take to close. If after two weeks you have warm impressions and no named components, the arrangement is not aimed at anything measurable.

How long does it take to close a content gap in a Higher Level subject?+

Six to fourteen weeks for one substantial gap in one subject, assuming a weekly session with work done between them. The variation depends on how far back the break is: a student whose problem is three steps upstream of the exposed topic takes longer than one with a single missing unit. Expect the first two sessions to feel like going backwards, because rebuilding from the earliest failure point is how this works. Judge it on the school's next assessment rather than on how the lessons feel, which is the least reliable instrument available to a parent.

We are six weeks from the papers. What is realistically achievable?+

One paper's technique, done properly. In six weeks a student can learn to read command terms accurately, write for a mark scheme rather than for themselves, and pace an hour sensibly, and those changes move scores without a single new fact being learned. What is not achievable is new content across a syllabus, and a plan that promises it is selling the wrong thing. Pick the paper with the largest recoverable mark total, work twice a week with marked practice in between, and decide what comes off your child's week to make room, because something has to.

My daughter is in DP1 with no obvious problem. Is this too early to start?+

It is the cheapest point in the whole Diploma to do something, which is why almost nobody does. In the first term of DP1 the Extended Essay question is still open, Higher Level levels can still be changed, and a content gap can be closed before the course starts assuming it. A single diagnostic session at that stage often produces a plan a family executes themselves with no further sessions bought. The expensive version of the same conversation happens in DP2, when the levels are fixed, the core is late and the only available lever is intensity.

How much notice does a tutor need before the mock season?+

Three to four weeks to be useful, and the more important point is what happens afterwards. Mocks are the best diagnostic a Diploma year produces, so the valuable work sits in the weeks after the scripts come back rather than the fortnight before they are sat. A sensible arrangement pauses or switches to timed papers during mock week itself, then re-diagnoses from the actual script: which section, which command terms, where the pacing failed. Families who intensify before mocks and then stop have usually bought the less useful half of the opportunity.

What happens to the plan during Ramadan in Fujairah?+

It shifts rather than pauses, and the shift should be agreed before the month starts. The shortened school day changes the whole rhythm, late-afternoon slots stop working well, and sessions after Iftar generally hold better. Shorter sessions more often tend to survive the month better than one long evening. The timing matters because Ramadan falls close to the exam term, so three weeks lost here are three weeks that cannot be recovered later. Deciding the adjustment in advance is the difference between an adapted plan and a lapsed one.

We travel for several weeks in the summer. Should lessons stop or continue?+

Either is fine; drifting is not. Continuing over video from wherever you are works, with the slot moved to suit the new time zone, and suits students with an assessed component in progress. Stopping cleanly also works, provided it is a decision with a restart date and a short re-diagnosis when term begins, because six weeks away from a subject changes where a student is. What causes damage is the silent version: two sessions missed, then a vague intention to resume, then September arriving with the plan untouched and the target now out of date.

How do we know the plan is working before the next school report?+

Ask for marked work rather than progress reports. A session that produces an annotated script is evidence; a session that produces a verbal summary is not. Within a block you should be able to see the same style of question attempted twice, several weeks apart, with the second attempt scoring better against the same scheme. That is a smaller and faster signal than a report card and it is the one a tutor should be providing without being asked. If nothing written is coming home, there is nothing to review at the review point.

What does a visiting tutor on the east coast charge per hour?+

Published market figures for visiting one-to-one tuition in the UAE ran AED 180-500 per hour in October 2026, with travel inside the fee, and advertised monthly packages of four two-hour visiting sessions sat at AED 1,599-1,799. Qualified subject tutors working online were published at AED 150-300, specialists at AED 200-450 and above, and premium or examiner-experienced tutors at AED 500-650 and above. Those are other providers' figures rather than a price list. On this coast the travel component dominates the visiting rate, because the round trip from the Dubai school belt is two to three hours.

Should we book a term in advance to secure a slot?+

Secure the slot, but be careful what else comes with it. A standing weekly time is genuinely worth holding, particularly for an evening slot on this coast where the usable window is narrow. Paying a term's fees up front is a different thing: it removes the main protection a family has, which is the ability to change a decision cheaply when a match turns out to be wrong. A reasonable arrangement holds the slot, has a stated end date for the block, and does not renew unless somebody asks. Ask what happens if you stop after two sessions.

My son has two assessed components due in the same fortnight. What comes first?+

The one carrying more marks, and the other one gets a reduced, honest submission rather than both being done badly. This collision is common rather than unlucky, because internal deadlines are set by the school and nobody coordinates them against each other. The adjustment is to pause content teaching for that fortnight and use the sessions for process coaching: narrowing the question, reading the criteria, feedback on the student's own draft. Content work squeezed alongside two drafts achieves nothing in any of the three. Getting the school's deadline list in September is what lets you see this coming.

Can the same tutor stay with my child across both Diploma years?+

Usually, and it is worth asking for explicitly at the start rather than assuming. Continuity across DP1 and DP2 means the tutor already knows which topic chain was rebuilt in the first year and does not need to rediagnose, which saves real weeks. What breaks it is more often scheduling than availability: a slot that worked in DP1 collides with a DP2 timetable, and the arrangement lapses rather than moving. Agreeing at the outset that the slot can shift inside the week, and reviewing it at the start of each term, is what keeps a two-year arrangement intact.

What do we do if the marks have not moved after a term?+

Change the aim, not the hours. A term of sessions with no movement in the targeted component means the diagnosis was wrong, the plan was aimed at the wrong thing, or the work between sessions was not happening. Those are three different problems with three different fixes, and buying more sessions addresses none of them. Ask for the marked work from the term and look at whether the same questions improved. A tutor who responds to a flat review by proposing additional weekly hours is answering a commercial question rather than an academic one.

Is there a point in the Diploma where starting is genuinely too late?+

Not quite, but there is a point where the aim has to shrink to one section of one paper. With a fortnight left the honest target is the single section with the largest recoverable mark total, worked in two or three short sessions with everything else protected, including sleep. Anyone proposing a broad programme at that stage is not reading the calendar. No tutor can promise a grade at any stage, and a first conversation that opens with one has told you how the rest of the arrangement will go.

Start with one hour and a date

The useful first step is small: a diagnostic session worked from the last two marked scripts and the school's internal deadline list, which produces a written target and an honest number of weeks. From there a block has a length, a review point and an end date, and renewing it is a decision rather than a default. Lessons are one-to-one and delivered live over video in Gulf Standard Time; nobody is sent to a Fujairah address, and visiting tuition is offered only in India. IB Gram holds no regulator or examination-board approval and names no school as a partner. What it offers is a plan with dates in it.
