IB Diploma Tutor in Fujairah

Hiring an IB Diploma tutor is a timing decision before it is a teaching one. Twenty-four months separate a DP1 September from results, and the useful weeks are not evenly spread: internal assessment deadlines, predicted grades and the mock examinations all land before the May session papers. This page counts the Diploma backwards for a Fujairah family and says what each stage can still change. Lessons run live online, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time.

  • A written plan that names the weeks, not just the subjects
  • Internal assessment support that stays inside IB honesty rules
  • Higher Level specialists matched where a small cohort cannot cover them

IB & IGCSE in Fujairah

Twenty-four months, unevenly distributed

A Fujairah parent searching for an IB Diploma tutor is almost always standing at a specific point on a two-year timeline, and the point matters more than the subject. A family in the first term of DP1 has a different problem from one eight weeks out from the May session, and the same hour of teaching buys very different things in each case. Most tutoring is sold as though the calendar were flat. It is not.

The Diploma front-loads its invisible work. Internal assessment in every subject, the Extended Essay, the Theory of Knowledge essay and exhibition, and CAS all run through DP1 and the first half of DP2, with deadlines set by the school rather than by the IB. By the time a parent sees a disappointing report, several of those components may already be submitted internally. A tutor arriving at that stage can still change the examination papers, which carry most of the grade, but cannot revisit a mark that is already banked.

Then there are the two sets of grades a family will meet. Predicted grades are produced by the school for university applications, usually during DP2 and well before the papers, and they are evidence-based rather than aspirational. Final grades come from the May session. A plan that improves the examination performance but arrives after the predictions are submitted may rescue the result and still have cost an offer, which is why the timing question deserves an honest answer before a package is sold.

Fujairah adds its own constraints. Diploma provision on this coast is thin, cohorts are small, and a student taking Chemistry or Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level may be one of four in the room with a teacher covering several levels at once. That is not a quality problem; it is a staffing arithmetic problem, and it is the single most common reason east-coast families look outside the school for a Higher Level subject.

IB Gram works with these families online, one-to-one, over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE - home visits are a service we run only in India - so no sentence here promises a tutor in Fujairah City on a Wednesday. The gain is the specialist and the consistency: a tutor who has taught that course at that level, in a slot that survives the mountain road, the Ramadan calendar and the exam term. What follows is organised the way the Diploma is actually lived: the report in front of you, the four phases of the two years and what each can still change, the internal deadlines nobody writes down, the weeks between the mocks and the papers, and what the whole thing costs at market rates. Read the phase you are standing in and ignore the rest until you reach it.

At a glance

  • Six subjects, three normally at Higher Level, plus the three core components
  • Internal assessment deadlines are set by the school, not by the IB
  • Predicted grades are produced well before the examination papers are sat
  • UAE schools sit the May session; confirm every date with the school's IB coordinator
  • The Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge together contribute up to three bonus points
  • A tutor teaches and gives feedback; assessed work remains the student's own throughout
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three things sit under the Diploma label and families often buy help for the wrong one. The subjects, the core and the transition into DP1 are separate jobs with separate timelines.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1-DP2

IB Diploma Programme subjects

Six subjects across the groups, usually three at Higher Level and three at Standard. Each carries internal assessment alongside the examination papers, and in mathematics and the sciences that internal component typically accounts for a fifth of the grade. Higher Level is not Standard Level with extra homework: it adds content and, in several subjects, an additional paper with a different style of demand.

In a small Fujairah cohort the subject combination a student wants may be constrained by the timetable rather than by their ability. Where a Higher Level is taught in a mixed group or by a teacher carrying several courses, outside subject support is often what makes the choice viable rather than a luxury.

COREAcross both Diploma years

Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS

The Extended Essay is an independent research piece with a 4,000-word ceiling; the Theory of Knowledge assessment is an essay on a prescribed title plus an exhibition with a commentary; CAS is a requirement rather than a graded component. The essay and the Theory of Knowledge work together contribute up to three points on top of the subject total, and a failing condition in the core can block the award.

Core components are where students in small schools lose ground quietly, because supervision depends on a staff member who may be supervising several essays in subjects outside their own. Confirm the school's internal deadlines in writing at the start of DP1; they are earlier than most families expect.

MYPThe term before DP1

The MYP 5 to DP1 transition

The step up is volume and independence rather than new content. MYP tasks are produced over days against criteria; Diploma papers are timed, and internal deadlines arrive while new teaching continues. Students carried by proximity in a small cohort feel this first, and the first DP1 report is often the family's introduction to the problem.

East-coast students arrive in DP1 from MYP 5, from IGCSE and from Indian and national-curriculum routes in the same class. A term of transition work before September is cheaper than a term of recovery after it, and it is the least-bought useful thing in this market.

RETAKEAfter a May session

Retake and November entry

A candidate can re-sit subjects in a later session, usually keeping internal assessment marks where the subject guide allows. The entry is made through a school as the registering centre, so the practical question is which centre will enter a candidate who has left. Revision for a retake looks nothing like first-attempt revision: it is narrow, evidence-led and built around the specific papers that underperformed.

For Fujairah families a retake raises a logistics question as much as an academic one, because the registering centre may be outside the emirate. Settle that with the school's coordinator before committing to a plan.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The Diploma subjects Fujairah families ask about most, with the part of the assessment that actually moves the grade. Weightings vary by subject guide, so confirm the current split with the school's IB coordinator before planning around it.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Algebraic fluency carries the paper. At Higher Level there is an additional paper with extended problem-solving, and the exploration accounts for roughly a fifth of the grade. Students who were comfortable at IGCSE Extended often meet proof and calculus depth for the first time here, and the gap shows in DP1 term two rather than in September.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and technology use, with the graphic display calculator central rather than incidental. The route suits students heading for business, social science and design subjects, but some engineering and mathematics degrees specify Analysis and Approaches, so the choice needs checking against the intended course before DP1 locks.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics and fields reward precise definitions and consistent units, and the internal investigation carries real weight. The common failure is treating derivations as content to memorise rather than as method to reproduce under time pressure. Higher Level extends topics rather than merely adding them, which changes how revision should be sequenced.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics, equilibrium, organic mechanisms and the internal investigation. Marks are lost on setting out multi-step calculations in a form the mark scheme can follow, and on explanation questions that describe instead of explaining. This is the Higher Level most often thinly staffed in a small school, and the one east-coast families resolve first.

Biology

HL and SL

Volume plus precision: the content is large and the terminology is marked strictly. Data-based questions are where prepared students separate from well-read ones. The internal investigation rewards a tight, controlled question rather than an ambitious one, and students usually need that pointed out before they design it.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagrams carry marks prose cannot recover, and the Higher Level paper adds quantitative demand. Evaluation is the discriminator in the longer answers. The internal assessment is a set of commentaries built from published news articles, which rewards early, disciplined article selection far more than late polishing.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study driven, with application marks for using the stimulus rather than reciting theory. The Higher Level research project requires real organisational evidence, so the choice of organisation is the decision that determines the ceiling. Students from family-business backgrounds often over-rely on knowledge and under-answer the question.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Textual analysis across literary and non-literary material, with an oral component and, at Higher Level, an additional essay. Students lose marks by summarising rather than analysing how meaning is constructed. Short, close-reading practice on unseen extracts moves this faster than writing more full essays does.

English B

HL and SL

Receptive, productive and interactive skills, with text types that have to be learned as conventions rather than improvised. Many east-coast students sit this alongside Arabic A, which concentrates the written workload in the same weeks. Marking rewards register and task fulfilment, both coachable quickly from a marked script.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Theory, systems and the internally assessed solution. The written papers carry more of the grade than students expect, and the solution rewards documented process over elegant code. Higher Level adds abstract data structures and resource management, which is the content most often under-taught in a small cohort.

Arabic A and Arabic B

HL and SL

Taken by a large share of UAE candidates and sitting alongside the mandatory national subjects in the timetable. Support here is examination technique in Arabic rather than conversational practice, and it is streamed by whether the student is a first-language or acquisition learner.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of support, chosen by where the student sits on the two-year timeline rather than by package size. All run live online, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time.

DP1 foundation block

Weekly work in one or two subjects through the first Diploma year, aimed at the content that Higher Level depends on later and at the habits internal assessment will demand. The cheapest point on the timeline to intervene, and the least popular, because nothing has gone visibly wrong yet.

  • One subject at a time, usually the intended Higher Level
  • Internal assessment planning handled early, not in the final fortnight
  • Written note after each session so DP2 decisions have evidence behind them

DP2 examination programme

Two sessions a week in the target subject from the start of DP2, built around timed questions and marked scripts rather than new content. Topic selection is driven by where the marks are actually going, which is a different list from the topics the student finds unpleasant.

  • Timed papers marked against published criteria
  • Sequenced so the mock examinations are a checkpoint, not a surprise
  • Runs through the school holidays and the half-term break
  • Second subject added only when the first shows movement

Core and coursework clinic

Short, scheduled sessions on the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and subject internal assessments, timed to the school's own internal deadlines. The tutor teaches the criteria, questions the research design and responds to drafts the student has written; the submitted work remains entirely the student's own.

  • Built around the school's internal deadline, not the IB's
  • Research question and method settled before the writing starts
  • No text, sections or edits supplied; feedback only

01

Where your child is now: reading a Diploma report honestly

  • A single low Higher Level grade can matter more than the total
  • Compare examination performance against internal assessment marks
  • Ask which components are already submitted internally
  • Ask when predicted grades are produced and from what evidence

A Diploma report is more readable than an MYP one and still routinely misread. A student with grade fives across six subjects and no bonus points is on roughly thirty, which clears the award but closes some university doors; a student with two sevens and a three has a different and more urgent problem, because a low grade in a Higher Level subject can trigger a failing condition regardless of the total. The shape of the profile is the information, not the sum.

The second thing to read is the gap between the subject grade and the internal assessment mark where the school reports both. A student whose papers are stronger than their internal work has a deadline and process problem; the reverse usually means examination technique under time pressure. Those two diagnoses lead to opposite plans, and buying the wrong one costs a term. Ask the school for the internal assessment position subject by subject, including which components have already been submitted internally.

Third, find out when predicted grades will be produced and on what evidence. A family applying to university needs to know whether the next six weeks of work can still influence the prediction, because if it cannot, the plan should be aimed at the final result and the application strategy adjusted instead. Schools differ on this, and in a small Fujairah cohort the answer is usually available in a single conversation with the coordinator. Small cohorts have one advantage worth using: the coordinator knows your child, and the whole picture can be had in one meeting rather than three emails.

02

The Diploma counted forward, term by term

Laid out across two years, the Diploma has four distinct phases, and a tutor is useful in all four for different reasons. The first term of DP1 is about securing the foundations a Higher Level course will later assume, and it is the only phase where a weakness can be fixed without cost to something else. The second phase, through DP1 term two and three, is when internal assessment work and the Extended Essay should be designed and started, and when a wrong research question costs months.

The third phase is the first half of DP2: new content still arriving, internal deadlines landing, Theory of Knowledge work due, and university applications being prepared off the back of predicted grades. This is the most congested stretch of the whole programme and the point at which most families first seek help. Work here has to be triaged rather than spread, because there is not enough calendar left for everything the student would like to improve.

The fourth phase runs from the mock examinations to the papers themselves. By then the only large lever left is examination performance, which is also the largest component of the grade, so the work is narrow: timed questions, marked scripts, topic triage. The table below sets out the phases with what should already be behind the student at each point. Exact dates for the May session come from the school's IB coordinator or the IB's own site; none are published here, because they are not ours to confirm.

03

Internal assessment: the deadlines the school sets, not the IB

Every Diploma subject carries internally assessed work, and in mathematics and the sciences it typically accounts for around a fifth of the final grade. The deadlines that govern it are set by the school, working backwards from the submission dates its coordinator must meet. This is the single most useful thing a DP1 family can obtain: the school's internal calendar, in writing, for every subject and core component. Students who miss it are not usually lazy; they have simply never seen the dates side by side.

The ceilings on each component are published in the subject guides and they bite. The Extended Essay has a 4,000-word limit, and the Theory of Knowledge essay a 1,600-word limit on a prescribed title, with the exhibition commentary shorter again. Science investigations and the mathematics exploration are bounded by page or length guidance rather than by a hard word count. Limits are revised between guides, so the figures below should be confirmed against the current guide through the school's coordinator rather than taken from any tutoring page.

The practical consequence is that internal assessment is a project-management problem wearing a subject label. A student who chooses a research question that cannot be answered in the available length has created a problem no amount of writing skill will solve. Settling the question, the method and the data source early is where outside help earns its fee, and it is work that must be done months before the deadline rather than in the fortnight before it.

04

The weeks from the mock examinations to the May session

  • Rank revision by marks lost, not by discomfort
  • Write full answers to time; it is a skill that fades
  • Mark against the published criteria, not against the textbook
  • Get the session and registration dates from the school in writing

The stretch after the mocks is the only part of the Diploma where almost everything a student does is examination performance, and it is also where effort is most often misallocated. The instinct is to revise the topics that feel uncomfortable. The better plan is to revise where the marks are, which means reading the mock scripts question by question and ranking topics by marks lost per hour of likely study. In most subjects that ranking is not what the student expected.

Two habits do more than any amount of content review in this window. The first is writing full answers to time, which is a physical skill that degrades without practice. The second is marking those answers against the published criteria, because it shows the student the difference between an answer that is right and an answer that collects the marks. A tutor who marks a script and then teaches the three recurring losses is doing the highest-value work available at this point in the calendar.

Dates matter here and we do not publish them. UAE schools sit the May session, registration is handled by the school as the registering centre, and the exact windows for examinations and results come from the IB or the school's coordinator rather than from a tutoring site. Ask for them in writing at the start of DP2 and build the revision calendar backwards from the first paper, leaving the last fortnight for timed practice rather than new learning.

05

What two years of support actually costs, in context

Diploma tutoring is bought in hours and experienced as a two-year line in the household budget, so it is worth seeing against the other costs around it. Published market rates in this country put budget and generalist online tutors from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, qualified subject tutors online at about AED 150 to 300, in-home visits at AED 180 to 500 once travel is included, and IB or IGCSE specialists from AED 200 to 450 and upwards. A published 2026 Dubai survey put monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions at roughly AED 240 to 600 for budget help, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and beyond for specialist exam-year support.

Those are market figures with their source stated, not IB Gram prices, and the point of showing them is to make the planning arithmetic visible. One Higher Level subject supported weekly across both Diploma years is a different commitment from an eight-week intensive before the papers, and families routinely discover the difference after committing. School fees are the other half of the context: KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, which at least makes the tuition line the variable one.

The sensible sequencing on the east coast is to spend early and narrowly rather than late and broadly. One subject in DP1, chosen because it is the Higher Level the school can least support, costs less across two years than three subjects bought in panic in DP2, and it is the version that actually changes the examination result. The table sets out the common shapes with their indicative monthly cost at market rates.

Theory of Knowledge, CAS and the quiet failing conditions

  • Up to three bonus points sit in the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge
  • An incomplete core requirement can block the award regardless of subject grades
  • Theory of Knowledge is marked on argument about knowledge, not subject content
  • CAS reflections written at the time are worth more than any amount written later

The core components are worth up to three points between the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge, which sounds minor until a university offer sits at a point above the predicted total. More importantly, the core carries failing conditions: a Diploma can be withheld over an incomplete core requirement even where the subject grades are comfortable. Families who treat Theory of Knowledge as the soft subject on the timetable are reading the point total and ignoring the award rules.

Theory of Knowledge is also genuinely difficult to teach in a small school, because it is nobody's subject specialism. The essay responds to a prescribed title and is marked on the quality of the argument about knowledge rather than on content knowledge, which means a strong science student can write fluently and score poorly. Teaching it is a matter of structure and of using examples that do real work in the argument, and it is one of the few places where a handful of sessions reliably changes the outcome.

CAS is a requirement rather than a graded component, and the usual east-coast difficulty is not finding activities but documenting them. Reflections left to the final weeks are thin, and the coordinator cannot sign off what is not recorded. Fujairah families have good access to coastal and community projects; what they often lack is a habit of writing the reflection at the time. That habit is free to establish in DP1 and expensive to retrofit in DP2.

07

What a tutor may and may not do with Diploma coursework

The IB's academic honesty rules make the student responsible for the work submitted in their name, and the consequences of a malpractice finding fall on the student rather than on whoever helped. That makes the boundary a practical matter rather than a point of principle. A tutor may teach the assessment criteria, explain what a command term demands, question whether a research question can be answered in the available length, and respond to a draft the student has written. That is legitimate, documented support and it is what a supervisor does too.

What a tutor must not do is supply the work. Nobody at IB Gram hands over essay text, internal assessment sections, Theory of Knowledge paragraphs or finished analysis, and we do not edit a student's submission into shape sentence by sentence. Services in this search cluster do sell completed internal assessments; that is an integrity breach which puts a candidate's whole Diploma at risk, and it is the clearest line between a tutoring service and an essay mill.

There is a second boundary families run into. Board papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables and subject guides belong to the IB, and we do not reproduce or supply them as downloads. A tutor can teach from them where the student has legitimate access through the school, and can point to the official source. If a student arrives the night before a deadline hoping someone else will carry the work over the line, the honest answer is that a weak mark is survivable and a malpractice finding is not.

08

Fujairah specifics: thin cohorts and the Higher Level nobody can staff

Fujairah sits on the Gulf of Oman with the Hajar mountains between it and the western emirates, and its private-school set is small. For the Diploma that produces a particular pattern: generous access to teachers, limited depth in any single Higher Level course, and subject combinations constrained by the timetable rather than by ability. A student may be one of three or four taking a subject, taught by someone who also covers Standard Level and a lower school course.

The honest consequence is that the thing a Fujairah family most often needs is not more teaching but different teaching: one specialist in one Higher Level subject, for two years, who has taught that course repeatedly. That is also the thing a twenty-minute radius cannot supply, and it is the reason a visiting tutor is rarely the answer here. A one-hour lesson costs a tutor crossing the mountains close to three hours, which is why published in-home bands reach AED 500 and why the far slot is the first one cancelled in a busy week.

Online delivery is what makes the specialist available at all, and the honesty rule applies in both directions. Where no UAE-based tutor covers a narrow Higher Level subject at a workable hour, a family is told that and offered a specialist elsewhere teaching into Gulf Standard Time, or told to wait for one. Across thirty teaching weeks, the consistency of a slot that never depends on the weather on the mountain road is worth more than any single session.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Fujairah

On a two-year timeline the local variable that matters is not distance to a tutor but what time a student is actually able to work. These notes are about that, district by district.

Fujairah City

Where the emirate's sixth-form provision is concentrated. Students here can often hold an earlier slot, which matters in DP2 when a second weekly session for a Higher Level subject has to fit somewhere without displacing independent study.

Al Faseel

Short journeys and an early finish, so a DP1 student can start at 4.30pm and still have the evening for internal assessment work. Families here tend to use one longer session plus a working block rather than two short ones.

Sakamkam

Inland, with later transport. A 6pm start holds across the year, which is the right trade in DP2: a slot that never has to be apologised for is worth more than one that is theoretically earlier.

Merashid

Students are spread across several schools, so internal assessment deadlines differ between neighbours in the same subject. Any plan has to be built on the student's own school calendar rather than a generic Diploma timeline.

Al Gurfa

South along the coast, where a long school journey eats the early evening. Higher Level work is better placed later, with content review moved to the weekend when concentration is actually available.

Dibba Al-Fujairah

The northern end of the coast, where some families use schools across the Sharjah boundary in Dibba Al-Hisn or Khor Fakkan under the Sharjah Private Education Authority. That changes both the commute and the school calendar the plan must follow.

Qidfa and Mirbah

Smaller communities whose Diploma students travel furthest. For them the online slot is less about convenience than about having a second weekly session at all in the exam term.

School ecosystem

Fujairah schools and the local post-16 picture

Private schools inside the emirate are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education. Full Diploma provision on this coast is limited, so post-16 planning often involves comparing a local sixth form with schools in the northern emirates.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say where you are on the timeline

Tell us the Diploma year, the term, the six subjects with their levels, and which internal assessment components have already been submitted internally. That one message determines whether the useful plan targets the prediction, the papers or the core, and it stops a package being sold for the wrong phase.

  2. 02

Free trial with a marked script or draft

One hour online at a time that fits the school run. The tutor works from a marked paper or an internal assessment draft, teaches for most of the session, and ends by naming the specific losses. No card details are needed to book it, and it is one lesson per student.

  3. 03

A plan written backwards from the session

You get a short written plan that starts at the May session and counts back: what has to be secure by the mocks, what can still be changed after them, and which subject is first. Where the honest answer is that the school's own programme covers it, the plan says so.

  4. 04

Fixed slots that survive the exam term

Sessions run at a set time on Gulf Standard Time with the same tutor, following the school's internal deadlines rather than a generic Diploma calendar. Slots shift permanently for Ramadan hours or a change in school transport, because a plan that only works in October is not a plan.

  5. 05

Checkpoints on marked work, not on feel

Progress is read from timed questions marked against published criteria, at intervals agreed in advance. If two checkpoints show no movement, the approach changes or the tutor changes. In DP2 there is not enough calendar left to spend a term discovering a poor match.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The plan is dated, not open-ended

Every plan starts from the examination session and counts backwards, so a family can see which weeks are still useful and which components are already closed. That is the opposite of an open-ended monthly package, and it occasionally produces the recommendation to buy less rather than more.

Higher Level depth a small cohort cannot carry

The common Fujairah requirement is one specialist in one Higher Level subject for two years. Online matching draws on everyone who teaches that course and can make a Gulf Standard Time slot, which is a larger pool than the east coast contains for Chemistry, Analysis and Approaches or Computer Science.

Core components treated as real work

The Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge carry up to three points and can block the award if left incomplete. Support is scheduled against the school's internal deadlines rather than squeezed in when a subject session has spare time, because the core is where quiet losses happen.

Coursework boundaries stated plainly

A tutor teaches criteria, questions research design and responds to the student's own drafts. No text, no sections, no editing to completion, and no reproduction of board papers or mark schemes. That boundary protects the candidate, and it is the difference between this and the essay services ranking alongside it.

Rates shown as the market, with the source named

The AED bands and monthly figures on this page come from published provider pricing and a 2026 Dubai rate survey, presented as market context rather than as our price list. Most pages ranking for these searches publish no figure at all.

Disclosure when nobody is free

If no UAE-based specialist covers a narrow Higher Level subject at a workable hour, you are told before you pay, and offered either a tutor elsewhere teaching into your time zone or an honest wait. A weak substitute in DP2 costs more than an awkward message does.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Fujairah: your questions answered

My son is in DP1 and predicted 28. What is realistically fixable from here?+

Most of it, because DP1 is the phase where time still exists. With eighteen months to the papers, the two levers are the foundations his Higher Level courses will assume and the design of his internal assessment work, both of which are cheap to fix now and expensive later. Start with the single subject where marks are most recoverable rather than spreading across three. What cannot be recovered later is a component already submitted internally, so ask the school which ones those are before planning anything.

When should a Fujairah Diploma student start subject tuition to make a difference?+

Earlier than most families do, and in one subject rather than three. The cheapest useful intervention is in the first or second term of DP1, aimed at the Higher Level the local school can least support, because it changes both the content base and the internal assessment design. The most expensive is a panic purchase in DP2 across several subjects, which divides attention at the point where independent practice time is already short. If you are already in DP2, start with the subject whose mock script shows the largest recoverable loss.

How are predicted grades decided, and can extra tuition change them?+

The school produces them from evidence it holds: internal assessment marks, mock examinations and classwork, usually during DP2 and before university deadlines. A tutor cannot influence a prediction directly and should not try to. What tuition can do is improve the evidence before the prediction is made, which is why the timing question matters so much. Ask the coordinator when predictions are produced and from what. If the window has closed, aim the plan at the final result and adjust the application strategy instead.

What should a tutor be doing differently in DP2 from DP1?+

Almost everything. DP1 work is foundational and design-led: securing content the Higher Level course will assume, settling internal assessment questions, building written volume. DP2 work is triage and technique: timed questions, scripts marked against published criteria, and a ranking of topics by marks lost rather than by difficulty. A tutor still teaching new content in the final term has misjudged the calendar, and a DP1 tutor drilling past papers has done the same thing in the other direction.

How many hours outside school does a Higher Level subject actually need?+

Plan on four to six hours of independent work a week per Higher Level subject, of which a tutored session is one. That ratio is the important part: sessions are useful because they set work the student then does, so buying more sessions at the cost of practice time makes the result worse. In DP2 a second weekly session in the one subject costing the most marks is usually the best available spend, and a third subject added at the same time is usually the worst.

Our school moved an internal assessment deadline. Does that affect the IB submission?+

The school's deadline and the IB's submission schedule are different things, and the first exists to protect the second. Coordinators build internal dates with a margin so marking, moderation and upload can happen in order, so a slipped internal deadline eats that margin rather than the IB's. Get the internal calendar for every subject and component in writing at the start of DP2, and treat a moved date as a warning rather than a reprieve. A student who misses a rebuilt deadline usually has no margin left behind it.

What happens between the mocks and the May session, week by week?+

The mocks produce evidence, and the weeks after them should be spent on what that evidence says. Read the scripts question by question, rank topics by marks lost per likely study hour, and build the calendar backwards from the first paper, keeping the final fortnight for timed practice rather than new learning. Two habits matter more than content review: writing full answers to time, and marking them against the published criteria. Exact session dates come from the school's IB coordinator, not from any tutoring site.

Can we start Diploma tuition six weeks before the papers and still change anything?+

Yes, within limits worth being honest about. Six weeks is enough to change examination technique, timing, and performance on two or three high-yield topics in one subject, and that can be worth a grade. It is not enough to rebuild two years of content across six subjects, and it cannot touch internal assessment marks already submitted. The right shape is narrow: one subject, the specific papers that underperform, marked scripts every week. Anyone selling a broad six-week programme at this stage is selling comfort.

Is a November retake sensible for a student on the east coast?+

Sometimes, and the logistics need settling before the academic plan. A retake is entered through a school acting as the registering centre, so the first question for a candidate who has left is which centre will enter them, and whether that centre is in the emirate. Where internal assessment marks can be carried forward under the current subject guide, the work is narrow: the specific papers that underperformed, nothing else. Confirm what carries forward with the coordinator rather than assuming, because it varies by subject.

What does a two-year Diploma plan cost in dirhams if we budget from DP1?+

At published market rates, one subject supported weekly sits in the AED 600 to 1,200 a month mid-range band, rising towards AED 1,000 to 2,000 and beyond for specialist exam-year support, with in-home visits quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour once travel is priced. Those figures are from provider pricing and a published 2026 Dubai survey, and they are the market rather than our price list. The cheaper two-year shape is one subject early rather than three late, and it usually produces the better examination result.

Does Theory of Knowledge really affect the final Diploma score?+

Yes, in two ways. Together with the Extended Essay it contributes up to three points on top of the subject total, which is often exactly the margin a university offer turns on. More seriously, the core carries failing conditions, so an incomplete requirement can block the award even where subject grades are strong. It is also hard to teach in a small school because it belongs to no subject specialism, which makes it one of the few components where a handful of structured sessions changes the outcome reliably.

My daughter has three Higher Levels and is drowning in September. What comes off first?+

Nothing comes off until the school has been asked, because a level change is a school decision with deadlines attached, and dropping a Higher Level to Standard is usually possible early in DP1 and not later. Before that conversation, separate overload from misplacement: a student failing to keep up in all three has a workload and method problem, while one drowning in a single subject has a placement problem. Fix the method first with one subject supported properly, then revisit the combination with the coordinator using evidence rather than impressions.

How many drafts of the Extended Essay may a supervisor or tutor read?+

The supervisor relationship is defined by the school and the IB, and typically allows a limited number of formal checkpoints with written feedback on one full draft. A tutor works behind that rather than in place of it: teaching the assessment criteria, testing whether the research question is answerable in 4,000 words, and responding to what the student has written. Supplying text, rewriting sections or editing a submission into shape is outside that boundary and puts the candidate at risk. Ask the school for its own supervision schedule in writing.

If we move country mid-Diploma, what carries over and what restarts?+

The registration and the internal assessment position travel with the candidate through the coordinators rather than with the family, so the first call is to both schools. Subjects and levels may not match between timetables, and a Higher Level the new school cannot staff is the usual breaking point. Settle three things before accepting a place: which subjects at which levels the receiving school can actually offer, what internal assessment work it will accept as complete, and who registers the candidate for the session. Online subject support is often what keeps a mismatched subject alive through a move.

Which Diploma subjects can a small Fujairah school rarely staff at Higher Level?+

In practice, the narrow and the technical: Chemistry and Physics at Higher Level, Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, Computer Science, and minority second languages. These are not criticisms of the schools; a cohort of three or four cannot justify a dedicated specialist, and the teacher is usually carrying several courses. That is exactly where an online match earns its place, because the requirement is narrow and specific rather than general. Where nobody inside the UAE covers it at a workable hour, you should be told that before paying.

Fix the date first, then the subject

Before buying anything, get two things from the school in writing: the internal deadline calendar for every subject and core component, and the date predicted grades are produced. Those two facts determine whether the next six weeks should target the prediction, the papers or the core, and they are free. Bring them to a free trial lesson with a marked script or a draft, and the plan you get back will count backwards from the May session with the weeks named. Sessions run live online, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time, from DP1 foundations through to a narrow retake plan if one is needed.
