IB and IGCSE tutors for Serena families

Anyone shopping for IB and IGCSE tutors in Serena is really shopping for hours. The community sits off Al Qudra Road with no school inside it, so a secondary student loses the best part of two hours a day to the run, and what remains has to absorb homework, CAS, sport and an internal assessment nobody has started. This page counts those hours honestly, then shows where a tutored session earns its place in the week.

IB & IGCSE in Serena

Count the hours before buying any of them

Serena is a townhouse community off Al Qudra Road, built in Mediterranean-style clusters, with no school inside it. Its secondary students travel out to Arabian Ranches, Motor City, Dubai Sports City, Dubai Investments Park or The Sustainable City. Allowing for the collection circuit at both ends, a Year 12 student here spends somewhere between ninety minutes and two hours a day in transit. Over a five-day week that is between seven and ten hours gone before homework begins.

That is the number that should govern a tutoring decision, and almost nobody states it. Providers sell sessions as though the evening were empty. It is not. A Diploma Year 2 student has six subjects generating homework, a Theory of Knowledge essay, an Extended Essay, an internal assessment in each subject, a CAS portfolio and, in most households, at least one sporting or musical commitment that the family is not willing to drop. Adding two tutored hours to that week without removing anything produces a tired student and no measurable gain.

So the useful first exercise is arithmetic rather than shopping. Count the fixed hours: school, transit, sleep, meals, the commitments that are genuinely non-negotiable. What remains is the discretionary budget, and for a Serena Diploma student in the second year it is typically between twelve and eighteen hours a week. Every tutored session, every piece of homework and every hour of internal assessment work has to fit inside that, and the internal assessments alone can consume twenty to forty hours per subject across the course.

Once the budget is visible the decisions become straightforward and sometimes uncomfortable. Two tutored hours a week is roughly a sixth of the discretionary time, which is a serious allocation and has to be earning its place. A session that teaches content the student will then need four hours to consolidate is a six-hour commitment, not a one-hour one. A session that marks a timed paper and names three fixable errors is close to self-contained. The second kind is worth considerably more per hour out here than the first, and the difference between them is invisible on a provider's price list because both are sold as an hour of tutoring at the same rate.

IB Gram is a matching platform, not a centre, and there is no IB Gram premises in Dubai. For UAE families every lesson runs one to one over live video with a shared whiteboard and a recording the student keeps, which means no part of the hour is spent on anyone travelling. We do not send a tutor to a UAE address; home visits are a service offered only in India. In a week this tight, a format that adds no travel to either side is not a convenience but the condition for the arrangement working at all.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Each route makes a different claim on a Serena family's week. The notes below describe the time cost rather than the marketing.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects with three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS, scored out of 45 including three bonus points. The internal assessment in each subject is worth roughly a fifth to a quarter of that subject's grade and is produced over months outside lesson time, which is where the real time cost sits.

Serena's Diploma students travel to Jumeirah English Speaking School Arabian Ranches, Greenfield International School in Dubai Investments Park or Fairgreen International School in The Sustainable City. All three are long runs. The pattern that survives here is one ninety-minute midweek block plus a weekend session, because four short weekday appointments collide with CAS and collapse by week five.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE

Eight to ten subjects examined at the end of Year 11 on short, patterned papers with published mark schemes. The time cost is heavily back-loaded: Year 10 is comparatively light and Year 11 from January onwards demands volume of timed practice that has to come from somewhere in the week.

Most Serena students on this route attend British-curriculum schools around Motor City, Dubai Sports City and Arabian Ranches. The arithmetic that matters: sixty to a hundred hours of past-paper practice across Year 11 is a realistic figure, which works out at around three hours a week from January. Families who have not reserved that time end up buying tutoring to replace practice, which does not work.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria marked 0 to 8, converted to a 1 to 7 grade, with the optional eAssessment at the end of MYP 5. Tasks are assessed as they are produced rather than saved for a final examination, which spreads the load evenly instead of concentrating it.

The Middle Years load is kinder to a long-commute community because it is distributed. The thing worth protecting at this stage is the habit of starting a task the week it is set, which is the single most useful preparation for the Diploma's long-horizon work. A fortnightly session is often sufficient here, which frees hours for later.

PYPAges 3-11 · FS2 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led units, descriptive reporting, no external examinations before the Year 6 Exhibition. The time cost to the family is low in work terms and high in transit terms, because the youngest children ride the same long route as their siblings with much less stamina at the end of it.

For Serena primary families the binding constraint is attention, not availability. Two sessions of twenty-five to forty minutes placed before dinner work; a single long session after it does not, regardless of how neatly it fits the adult calendar. Reading aloud and number fluency are the two things worth the time at this stage.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The subject notes name what a tutored hour actually buys in each case, because in a week this tight the question is not whether help would be nice but what an hour returns.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Paper 1 is calculator-free, which exposes algebraic weakness a graphing display was masking. An hour spent marking the student's own script line by line against the mark scheme returns more than an hour of teaching, because most losses are unjustified steps rather than wrong answers.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics is usually secure; thermal physics, waves and the Higher Level option are not. The high-return hour is one spent reconstructing a derivation from first principles, because students who memorise the result collapse when the examiner changes the unknown.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms account for most lost marks. Practising with the data booklet in hand is worth an hour on its own: students who have never used it under time waste minutes hunting values they are entitled to.

Biology

HL and SL

A content-heavy course where marks sit in command terms. One session sorting past questions by verb, outline against explain against evaluate, returns marks across every paper and takes no consolidation time afterwards, which makes it efficient in a tight week.

Economics

HL and SL

Paper 1 is decided by diagram accuracy: labelled axes, a marked new equilibrium, shaded welfare areas. This is a closed skill with a short learning curve, so two or three focused hours produce visible movement without generating hours of follow-up work.

Theory of Knowledge

Core, all Diploma students

Worth three bonus points alongside the Extended Essay and routinely treated as unexaminable until the essay is due. The efficient intervention is two sessions unpacking the prescribed title and testing the knowledge claims, early, before the student has written in the wrong direction.

Extended Essay

Core, all Diploma students

Roughly forty hours across two terms, and the hours are wasted if the research question is unworkable. The highest-value time is spent before any drafting, narrowing the question until it can be answered in four thousand words with evidence the student can actually obtain.

IGCSE Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended · Pearson 4MA1

The final third of each paper combines topics. Teaching the student to harvest method marks from a correct opening line, rather than abandoning the question, is a habit established in about three sessions and worth several marks a paper.

IGCSE Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 · Pearson 4CH1

Qualitative analysis results are a closed list and can be drilled to automaticity in two or three sessions. Electrolysis products are similarly finite. Both are good uses of scarce hours because they require no extended consolidation.

IGCSE Physics

Cambridge 0625 · Pearson 4PH1

Circuit questions reward reading the diagram before calculating, and the practical or alternative-to-practical paper rewards named apparatus and method held in memory. Both are finite lists rather than open-ended understanding, which is what makes them efficient targets.

IGCSE Biology

Cambridge 0610 · Pearson 4BI1

Genetic crosses are procedural and highly scorable once the layout is fixed, usually inside two sessions. Most losses come from omitted gamete rows or an unstated ratio, both of which are presentation faults rather than knowledge gaps.

IGCSE Combined and Co-ordinated Sciences

Cambridge 0653 and 0654

Breadth across three disciplines with less depth in each. Worth knowing which award the school entered, because the paper structures differ, and worth prioritising whichever discipline is weakest rather than revising all three evenly.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Format follows the hour budget. All three run online over live video, so none of the time is spent on travel at either end.

The self-contained marking hour

One session in which the student works a timed paper or paper section and the tutor marks it live, naming the specific errors and the marks each cost. It generates almost no follow-up work, which makes it the highest-value hour available to a student whose week is full. It is also the format that moves a grade fastest when the problem is technique.

  • Timed conditions, marked against the official criteria
  • Three named errors and the marks each one costs
  • Error log carried forward between sessions
  • No homework generated beyond re-attempting the flagged items

The ninety-minute midweek block plus a weekend session

The pattern that survives a Diploma Year 2 week in this community. Ninety minutes midweek for teaching and marking, and a weekend morning session for internal assessment or full papers. Two protected appointments are easier to defend against CAS, sport and school deadlines than four short ones.

  • 90 minutes midweek, 60-90 minutes at the weekend
  • Weekend slot reserved for anything needing a long run
  • Same tutor across both, one shared plan
  • Absorbs a late bus without losing the session

The fortnightly holding pattern

For Middle Years students and for Diploma students in a light phase of the year, a fortnightly session that checks progress and sets the next fortnight's work. It costs half the hours and keeps continuity, which is the right trade in months when the school's own deadlines are already consuming the discretionary budget.

  • One session every two weeks, with a written task between
  • Used in light phases, stepped up before deadlines
  • Keeps the relationship without consuming the week
  • Converted to weekly eight to ten weeks before a series

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Serena

01

The Serena school run, and the hours it leaves behind

  • Transit: seven to ten hours a week for a Serena secondary student
  • Discretionary time after school, sleep, meals and transit: twelve to eighteen hours
  • Internal assessments alone: twenty to forty hours per subject across the course
  • The demands arrive in predictable clusters, not evenly across the year

A search for IB and IGCSE tutors in Serena almost always starts with a grade and should start with a timetable. The community has no school inside it, so every secondary student travels out, and the routes are long: Arabian Ranches and Motor City to the north, Dubai Investments Park and The Sustainable City to the south. Add the collection circuit at both ends of the day and a Year 12 student is spending ninety minutes to two hours daily in transit.

Translate that into a week and the picture sharpens. Seven to ten hours gone to transit. Around thirty-five hours in school. Fifty-six hours of sleep if the student actually gets eight a night, which in a Diploma Year 2 household is optimistic. Meals, family time and the shower that follows sport take another ten to twelve. What is left, the discretionary budget inside which homework, internal assessment work, CAS, revision and any tutoring must all fit, is typically between twelve and eighteen hours.

Set the Diploma's own demands against that. Six subjects generating homework. An internal assessment per subject at twenty to forty hours each across the course. An Extended Essay at around forty hours across two terms. A Theory of Knowledge essay and exhibition. A CAS portfolio with its own reflection requirements. The demands do not fit into the budget evenly; they arrive in clusters, and the clusters are predictable.

This is why a tutoring conversation that begins with how many sessions a week is the wrong conversation. The right one begins with which hours exist and what each one is being asked to do. The table below sets out a realistic weekday for a Serena secondary student, which is the document a family should have in front of them before buying anything.

02

What an hour of tutoring actually costs in week-time

A tutored hour is never only an hour. It carries follow-up work, and the amount varies enormously by what the session was for. In a week with twelve to eighteen discretionary hours, that difference decides whether tutoring helps or quietly crowds out the student's own practice, which is where most learning happens.

A content-teaching session is the most expensive. The tutor explains a topic the student has not secured, and the student then needs three or four hours of practice to make it retrievable. That is a four or five hour commitment from a one-hour purchase, and it is the right purchase when content genuinely is missing. It is the wrong purchase when the content is already there and the problem is something else.

A marking session is the cheapest. The student works a timed paper, the tutor marks it live, and the output is three named errors and the marks each one cost. Follow-up is limited to re-attempting the flagged items. For a student whose content is broadly secure and whose technique is not, which describes most Year 11 and Diploma Year 2 students by March, this is the highest-return hour in the market and it fits in a full week.

An internal assessment session sits in between and has an unusual property: time spent early is worth several times the same time spent late. An hour narrowing a research question before any writing saves ten hours of writing in the wrong direction. An hour of feedback on a nearly finished draft saves far less, because the structural decisions have already been made and unmaking them is expensive. The implication is to buy internal assessment supervision at the beginning of the task, not at the deadline.

Where the hours have to come from

  • Sleep gives first and should give last; it makes every other hour less productive
  • CAS cannot be cut but can be front-loaded into lighter months
  • Sport and music usually earn their place and should survive
  • The real saving is narrowing revision to the weakest papers rather than covering all six evenly

If the budget is twelve to eighteen hours and the demands exceed it, something gives. The honest version of this conversation names what, because the alternative is that the student decides by default, at midnight, badly. In practice four things are candidates and they are not equally sensible.

Sleep is the one that gives first and should give last. A Diploma student running on six hours is slower at every task, which means every hour of work produces less, which creates the need for more hours. It is the one trade that makes the arithmetic worse rather than better, and it is the one families accept most readily because it is invisible until it is not.

CAS is the one families consider cutting and usually cannot, because it is a Diploma requirement rather than an extra. What can be adjusted is its distribution: front-loading CAS into the first year and the lighter months of the second is entirely legitimate and relieves pressure in the deadline clusters. That is a conversation with the CAS coordinator, worth having in September rather than February.

Sport and music are the ones that should usually survive, on the grounds that a sixteen-year-old without a physical outlet in a year this intense is a worse student, not a better one. The thing to reduce is more often the breadth of revision than the breadth of life: a student revising all six subjects evenly in April is wasting hours on the three that are already secure. Narrowing revision to the weakest papers is where most families find the hours they needed.

04

The year, month by month, for Years 11 to 13

The demands cluster, and the clusters are known in advance, which means a family can place tutoring where it is needed rather than spreading it evenly. This is the planning document nobody in this market publishes, and it is more useful than any list of subjects.

The shape of a Diploma second year is roughly this. September and October are deceptively light, which is exactly when internal assessment research questions should be settled. November and December are the first pile-up: internal assessment drafts, Extended Essay deadlines and mock preparation arriving together. January brings mock results and the first honest diagnosis of the year. February and March carry final internal assessment and Extended Essay submissions. April is revision, and by then anything not secured is unlikely to become so.

A Year 11 IGCSE year is differently shaped. The autumn term is genuinely light relative to what follows, the January mocks produce the diagnosis, and from February the work is volume of timed practice. The sixty to a hundred hours of past-paper work that an IGCSE year realistically needs mostly has to be done between January and the series, which is around three hours a week on top of everything else.

Entry deadlines sit outside this rhythm and ahead of it. In the UAE a Cambridge candidate is entered for either the June series or the November series, and the centre submits that entry months before the first paper, on a closing date Cambridge publishes per series and prints on the statement of entry — so by the time the exam feels close, the subject list and the tier are already fixed. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states it is essential to use the correct zone timetable, noting it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong version. Pearson Edexcel runs International GCSE in May or June and November, with the November 2026 final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026 and November results reaching students in January, as the November 2025 series did on 22 January 2026. IB session dates are not confirmable here, because the IB's site blocks automated checking; UAE schools sit the May session and the window should come from the school's coordinator or ibo.org.

Why weekends do most of the work out here

  • Weekday evenings hold one short, self-contained session, best between 19:00 and 20:30
  • Weekend mornings hold the long tasks: full timed papers, IA work, Extended Essay planning
  • Weekend slots are easier to move, which is exactly why they need protecting
  • A protected slot beats an ideal slot, because deadlines are what make the homework happen

In communities close to their schools, weekday evenings carry the tutoring and weekends are left alone. In Serena the arithmetic reverses, and families who recognise that early get more out of the year. A weekday evening after a two-hour round trip holds one useful session, and only in the 19:00 to 20:30 window. A weekend morning holds two, with a student who is rested and a tutor who is not working at the end of their own day.

That matters most for the tasks that need a long run. A full timed paper plus live marking is a two-hour operation and does not fit a weekday evening in this community. Internal assessment work needs continuity rather than fragments: ninety minutes on a research question is productive, three twenty-minute conversations about it are not. Extended Essay planning is the same. All three belong at the weekend here.

What should stay on a weekday is the short, self-contained session: a command-term sort, a marking hour on a paper section, a check on the week's homework. Those fit in ninety minutes between 19:00 and 20:30 and they generate almost no follow-up, which is exactly what a weekday in a long-commute household can absorb.

There is a scheduling discipline that goes with this. A weekend session is easier to move than a weekday one, because the day looks emptier, and a slot that moves twice stops existing. The rule worth writing down is the same one that applies to the weekday slot: a protected appointment at a slightly inconvenient time outperforms an ideal one that keeps being rescheduled, because the between-session work only happens when something is due.

06

Session length, rate and what you are actually buying

Because session length matters more in this community than in most, it is worth being clear about what the market charges and how length interacts with it. The figures below are Dubai market rates read in October 2026 from providers' own published pages and from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table. They describe the market, not an IB Gram price list.

A qualified subject tutor working online sits between AED 150 and AED 300 an hour. An IB or IGCSE specialist runs AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and one premium provider AED 650. In-home visits including travel run AED 180 to AED 500, with Bestimate showing AED 180 to 350. Budget platforms advertise from AED 33 to AED 65. Monthly packages seen in the market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits.

Length changes the value of the hour rather than its price. A sixty-minute session cannot contain a full timed paper plus marking; a ninety-minute one can, which is why ninety minutes is the right unit for the weekend slot and sixty for the weekday one. Two-hour sessions work for internal assessment and Extended Essay planning and are poor value for content teaching, because attention falls away and the last thirty minutes produce little.

For context, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. Fees are the fixed part of this year's education cost; tutoring is the variable part, and in a week as tight as a Serena Diploma week the question is as much about hours as about dirhams.

Internal assessment supervision bought at the right end of the task

  • The highest-value hour is before drafting, not before the deadline
  • Most weak assessments answer an unanswerable question rather than answering badly
  • Permitted: method, criteria, questioning, feedback on the student's own draft
  • Not permitted: supplied text, rewriting, supplied data, any part of the submission

The single most common mistake in Diploma tutoring is buying internal assessment help at the deadline. By then the research question is fixed, the data is collected, the structure is set, and feedback can only recommend expensive restructuring that the student has no hours left to do. The same money spent four months earlier would have prevented the problem rather than describing it.

The decisive hour is the one that interrogates the research question before any writing starts. Most weak internal assessments are not badly written; they answer a question that cannot be answered well in the format available. Too broad, no measurable variable, data the student cannot actually obtain, or a scope that requires more words than the task allows. An hour with someone who has read the criteria can spot all four and send the student off with a workable question instead.

The boundary on what a tutor may do is firm and worth stating because one provider in this market sells completed Internal Assessments outright. A tutor may teach research method, narrow the question, explain each criterion in its own language, read a draft the student has written and name which criterion is underserved, and teach the statistics or referencing the task requires. A tutor may not supply sentences, rewrite a draft, provide data the student did not gather, or produce any part of a submission.

The student signs the authenticity declaration, which means the consequence of crossing that line falls on them and not on the seller. Buying a finished piece buys an expulsion risk. Boards also hold copyright in syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables, so those should be referenced and linked rather than redistributed as downloads.

Availability, permits and the claims to be sceptical about

  • Deep pools: IGCSE Maths, separate sciences, English, primary literacy and numeracy
  • Thin pools: HL Physics, HL Economics, HL Psychology, HL second languages
  • The MoHRE permit is free and valid two years; ask whether a tutor holds one
  • Be sceptical of regulator claims, self-asserted ratings and promises about final grades

Coverage limits are real and almost never published. For Serena the honest position is that IGCSE Mathematics, the separate sciences, English and primary literacy and numeracy are deep pools matched quickly, while Higher Level Physics, Higher Level Economics, Higher Level Psychology, Business Management, Higher Level Mathematics Analysis and Approaches and second languages at Higher Level are thin everywhere, not only in Dubai.

The online format is what makes the thin pools workable from a community this far out. A Serena family requesting Higher Level Physics is choosing among specialists who teach that specification rather than among the few willing to drive past Arabian Ranches on a weekday evening. When a specialist is not free for a requested slot, the useful options are a different time with the right tutor, a short diagnostic block with a related-subject specialist, or a wait with a stated date, and saying which applies is more use than filling the slot quietly.

On legality, individuals providing private tuition in the UAE need a private tuition work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged fifteen to eighteen and university students. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so quoted amounts are unverified.

Three claims deserve scepticism in this market. Regulator endorsement: a KHDA Educational Services Permit applies to training institutes with premises in Dubai, and IB Gram has neither premises nor permit. Self-asserted ratings: one competitor publishes its own star rating in structured data, which is against Google's policy and worth nothing to you. And any promise about a final grade, since boundaries are set per series after marking and nobody knows them in advance.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Serena

Serena sits among the Al Qudra Road communities, and the difference between them that matters here is how many hours the school run takes out of a week.

Mudon

Immediately adjacent and on several of the same bus routes, with a younger average cohort. Mudon families face similar transit times but a lighter homework load, because more of their children are at primary stage.

Arabian Ranches 3

The newest Ranches phase, next door, with developing school provision. Families there sometimes have a shorter run than Serena's to the same schools, which translates directly into an extra usable hour in the evening.

Town Square

Denser townhouse stock a short way along Al Qudra Road with the same absence of a secondary school. Evening timings there are close to Serena's, and families in both communities tend to move exam-year work to weekends.

Remraam

Apartment stock closer to South View School, which gives some of those households a genuinely short run. The contrast with Serena is instructive: a shorter commute makes a 17:00 weekday slot possible and reduces weekend dependence.

DAMAC Hills

Jebel Ali School sits inside this community, so its own residents lose far fewer hours than Serena's do. Some Serena children attend the same school on a considerably longer route.

Arabian Ranches and Arabian Ranches 2

Jumeirah English Speaking School Arabian Ranches and Ranches Primary School. A major destination for Serena students and one of the longer runs, with afternoon pickup adding the most variability.

Motor City and Dubai Sports City

GEMS Metropole, Victory Heights Primary and Bradenton Preparatory. The Hessa Street approach at pickup is where most of the lost time accumulates on this corridor.

Dubai Investments Park and The Sustainable City

Greenfield International School, Durham School Dubai and Fairgreen International School. Longest on the map but steadier in flow, so arrival times are more predictable, which helps when protecting a fixed weekly slot.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Serena

The Arabian Ranches and Motor City destinations

Where most Serena secondary students go, and where most of the week's transit hours are spent. Families on these routes almost always end up putting exam-year work at weekends, because a weekday evening after this run holds one session rather than two.

  • Jumeirah English Speaking School Arabian Ranches
  • Ranches Primary School
  • GEMS Metropole School Motor City
  • GEMS Metropole Al Waha
  • Victory Heights Primary School
  • Bradenton Preparatory Academy

The Dubailand and Dubai Investments Park destinations

Longer in distance and more predictable in timing, which matters more than speed when the aim is to hold a fixed slot every week for a term. Two of these schools run IB continuum programmes, so Serena Diploma students are concentrated here.

  • Greenfield International School
  • Durham School Dubai
  • Fairgreen International School
  • South View School
  • The Aquila School
  • Jebel Ali School

Schools are named as local context so Serena parents can identify the syllabus and timetable their child is on. IB Gram has no affiliation with any school listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Write the week down before buying anything

List school hours, transit, sleep, meals and the commitments that genuinely cannot move. What remains is the budget every session has to fit inside. For a Serena Diploma Year 2 student it is usually twelve to eighteen hours a week, and seeing that number changes most families' first request.

  2. 02

Send the school, the code and the arrival time

Name the school, year group, board and syllabus code if you have it, the topics where marks are going, and when the bus actually reaches Serena. The arrival time is what makes a slot survive a term rather than being rearranged in the second fortnight.

  3. 03

    Diagnose with a marking hour

The first session is a timed paper or paper section marked live, producing three named errors and the marks each one cost. It is the cheapest session in week-time because it generates almost no follow-up, and it usually narrows a multi-subject request to one cause.

  4. 04

Put the long tasks at the weekend

Full timed papers, internal assessment work and Extended Essay planning go in a protected weekend morning, because a weekday evening after this commute cannot hold them. Weekdays take the short self-contained session between 19:00 and 20:30.

  5. 05

Step the cadence with the calendar

Fortnightly in September and October while internal assessment questions are being settled, weekly from January once mocks have produced a diagnosis, and twice weekly in the final eight to ten weeks on timed papers. A free trial session is available first, with its length and conditions stated at booking.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The hour budget respected, not ignored

Sessions are planned against the time a Serena student actually has after a seven to ten hour weekly commute. We will tell you when an extra session would crowd out the student's own practice, which is where most of the learning happens.

No travel on either side

Every UAE lesson runs one to one over live video with a shared whiteboard and a recording kept. IB Gram does not operate home visits in Dubai; that service exists only in India. In a week this tight, a format that adds no travel is what makes the arrangement hold.

Marking hours, not just teaching hours

A timed paper marked live generates about thirty minutes of follow-up, while a content-teaching session generates three or four hours. We say which one your child needs rather than defaulting to the one that is easier to deliver.

Internal assessment help at the right end

The decisive hour interrogates the research question before any writing starts, because most weak assessments answer an unanswerable question rather than answering badly. Late draft feedback costs hours the student does not have.

A month-by-month map, published

The deadline clusters in Years 11 to 13 are predictable, so the plan places sessions where the pressure actually is rather than spreading them evenly. No competing page in this market publishes a calendar of any kind.

Rates and claims both stated plainly

Every AED figure names the provider publishing it and the month it was read. We hold no regulator endorsement and say so, we publish no self-asserted rating, and we make no promise about a final grade because boundaries are set per series after marking.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Serena: your questions answered

How much time does the Serena school run actually take out of a week?+

For a secondary student, seven to ten hours. The community has no school inside it, so children travel to Arabian Ranches, Motor City, Dubai Sports City, Dubai Investments Park or The Sustainable City, and with the collection circuit at both ends a single day costs ninety minutes to two hours in transit. That is the number that should shape a tutoring decision, because it is subtracted before homework, internal assessment work, CAS and revision are even considered. Most providers sell sessions as though the evening were empty.

How many hours a week does a Diploma Year 2 student in Serena actually have free?+

Typically twelve to eighteen, once school, transit, sleep, meals and non-negotiable commitments are removed. Into that have to fit homework from six subjects, an internal assessment per subject at twenty to forty hours each across the course, an Extended Essay at around forty hours, a Theory of Knowledge essay and exhibition, and a CAS portfolio. Two tutored hours is roughly a sixth of that budget, which is a serious allocation. Writing the week down before buying anything is the most useful thing a family can do.

Which kind of tutoring session costs the least time overall?+

A timed paper marked live. The session runs sixty to ninety minutes and generates perhaps thirty to forty-five minutes of follow-up re-attempting the flagged items, so the total week-time cost is about two hours. A content-teaching session on a new topic costs four to five hours in total, because the student then needs three or four hours of practice to make the content retrievable. Both are legitimate purchases; they suit different diagnoses. In a full week, knowing which one you are buying matters as much as the rate.

Why should Serena families put tutoring at the weekend?+

Because the long tasks do not fit a weekday evening after a two-hour round trip. A full timed paper plus live marking is a two-hour operation. Internal assessment work and Extended Essay planning need continuity rather than fragments. A weekend morning holds those with a rested student. Weekdays should take the short self-contained session, best between 19:00 and 20:30, which generates almost no follow-up. The discipline is to protect the weekend slot, because an emptier-looking day is the easiest one to reschedule away.

When in the year should we buy internal assessment supervision?+

At the start of the task, not at the deadline. The decisive hour interrogates the research question before any writing: most weak assessments are not badly written but answer a question that cannot be answered well in the format available, because it is too broad, has no measurable variable, requires data the student cannot obtain, or needs more words than the task allows. An hour spent there saves ten. The same money spent on a nearly finished draft can only recommend restructuring the student has no hours left to do.

Can CAS be cut back if the academic load is too heavy?+

Not cut, because it is a Diploma requirement rather than an extra, but its distribution can be managed. Front-loading CAS into the first year and the lighter months of the second is legitimate and relieves pressure during the deadline clusters in November, February and March. That is a conversation with the CAS coordinator and it is worth having in September rather than in February. What usually should not give is sleep, because a student running short is slower at every task, which increases the hours needed.

Which months are hardest for a Diploma Year 2 student?+

November and December, then February and March. November and December bring internal assessment drafts, Extended Essay deadlines and mock preparation at the same time. February and March carry final internal assessment and Extended Essay submissions alongside the start of serious revision. September and October look light and are the right time to settle research questions, which is why using them well reduces the November pile-up. January delivers mock results and the first honest diagnosis of the year, which is the moment to reallocate the whole plan.

How much past-paper practice does an IGCSE year really need?+

Sixty to a hundred hours across Year 11 is a realistic figure, and most of it has to happen between January and the series because the syllabus is still being taught before that. That works out at around three hours a week on top of homework, which is why families who have not reserved the time end up trying to buy tutoring as a substitute for practice. It does not substitute. A tutor can enforce, structure and mark the practice, which is real value, but the hours have to be done by the student.

What session length is right for which task?+

Thirty to forty minutes for primary reading or number fluency and for single language skills. Sixty minutes for a paper section marked live, a command-term sort or a homework check. Ninety minutes for a full timed paper plus marking, or a Diploma teaching block. Two hours for internal assessment question-narrowing and Extended Essay planning, which need a long uninterrupted run. Two hours is poor value for new content teaching, because attention falls away and the last half hour produces little regardless of the tutor's quality.

What do Dubai tutors charge, and does session length change the rate?+

Market rates read in October 2026 put a qualified subject tutor online at AED 150 to AED 300 an hour and an IB or IGCSE specialist at AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and one premium provider AED 650. In-home visits run AED 180 to AED 500 including travel. Length generally prices pro rata, so what changes with length is the value of the hour rather than the rate. Those are market figures from published provider pages and Bestimate's 2026 table, not an IB Gram price list.

Does the Cambridge entry deadline affect how we plan the year?+

Substantially, because it closes months before the papers. A UAE candidate sits either Cambridge's June series or its November series, and the centre's entry for each goes in long before the first paper, on a date Cambridge publishes per series rather than one that repeats unchanged every year - which is why the tier conversation belongs in the term before, not the week before. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states it is essential to use the correct zone timetable, noting it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong version. Confirm your centre's zone and its entry date with the examinations officer, in writing.

Can you tell us the IB exam dates for the May session?+

No, and nobody writing a page like this honestly can. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so no IB session or results date on this page has been confirmed from the IB itself. What is reliable is that UAE schools sit the May session. For the exact window, ask your school's IB coordinator or check ibo.org directly, and do not fix a revision plan against a date taken from a tutoring page. Cambridge and Pearson dates quoted here are from those boards' own published material.

Which Higher Level subjects are hardest to match from Serena?+

Higher Level Physics, Economics, Psychology, Business Management, Mathematics Analysis and Approaches, and second languages at Higher Level. Those pools are small everywhere rather than specifically in Dubai. IGCSE Mathematics, the three separate sciences, English and primary literacy and numeracy fill quickly. Because lessons are delivered online, the pool is not limited to tutors willing to drive past Arabian Ranches on a weekday evening. When nobody suitable is free for your slot we will say so and give the options rather than substituting a generalist.

Does a private tutor in Dubai need a permit?+

Yes. Individuals providing private tuition in the UAE need a private tuition work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible categories include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, with no published schedule of amounts.

What claims should we be sceptical about when choosing a tutor?+

Three in particular. Regulator endorsement: a KHDA Educational Services Permit applies to training institutes with premises in Dubai, and no online matching platform holds one, including this one. Self-asserted ratings: one competitor publishes its own star rating in structured data, which is against Google's policy and tells you nothing verifiable. And any promise about a final grade, since grade boundaries are set per series after marking and nobody has advance access to them. A provider making the third claim is describing their marketing rather than your child.

Count the hours, then spend them

Write your child's week down first: school, transit, sleep, meals and the commitments that cannot move. The twelve to eighteen hours left is the budget, and it is the real constraint in a community with a commute like Serena's. Then send us the school, the year group, the board and syllabus code if you have it, and the time the bus reaches Serena. We will match a specialist in that exact specification and start with a marking hour, which is the cheapest session in week-time and the one most likely to tell you where the marks are actually going.
