IGCSE Tutor near me in Serena

A search for an IGCSE tutor near me in Serena returns tuition centres with map pins and agencies that added Dubailand to a service-area list. None of that tells you how many hours of your week each option costs. This page counts them, then builds a workable Year 10 and Year 11 week around the real school run. Teaching is live online, one-to-one.

IB & IGCSE in Serena

What 'near me' costs a Serena household in hours

Serena sits off Al Qudra Road at the far side of the Dubailand belt, built around clusters including Bella Casa and Casa Viva. Search for a tutor from that address and the results are shaped by who has a verified business location: tuition centres in Motor City and Dubai Sports City, directory listings for agencies based across the city, and freelance adverts whose stated service area is optimistic. It is a geography answer to a question about teaching.

The more useful question is how much of your week each option consumes, because that is the cost nobody puts on an invoice. A round trip from Serena to a centre in Motor City is thirty to forty minutes each way in the late afternoon, plus parking and waiting: call it two hours of household time per session. Two children on different days is four hours a week, which is most of a working morning.

A visiting tutor removes your driving and charges for their own. Serena is far enough out that a round trip is eighty to a hundred and twenty minutes, which is why market in-home rates run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel against AED 150 to 300 for the same qualified tutor online. You are paying for the journey either way; the only question is whose.

IB Gram removes both. There is no IB Gram centre or office in the UAE, no tutor travels to a UAE address — home visits are a service we run only in India — and Serena students are taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The practical consequence is that the session time becomes a choice rather than a constraint, which matters in a community where children arrive home anywhere between 15:45 and 16:40.

This page is therefore about the week rather than the hour. What the local search actually returns and what each option costs in time and money. How to build a Year 10 or Year 11 week around your child's arrival band. What support your school already provides free, which many families buy twice. How to choose between two tutors who are both available. And the administrative decisions — board, tier, entry, Cambridge zone — that quietly decide the year.

Every figure names its source. Where something depends on your child's specific entry, the answer is in the school's entry statement rather than on any page, including this one. For scale, Dubai's private sector runs 227 schools teaching 17 curricula to 387,441 students, with UK curricula at 37 per cent of enrolment, according to Dubai Media Office figures for 2024-25. In a market that size, the nearest option and the right option are rarely the same thing, and the gap between them is measured in the hours a family spends driving.

At a glance

  • A centre visit from Serena costs roughly two hours of household time per session
  • An in-home visit costs the tutor 80-120 minutes, priced into the hour
  • Market in-home AED 180-500/hr with travel; qualified online AED 150-300
  • Arrival in Serena ranges from 15:45 to 16:40 depending on the school
  • No UAE centre and no home visits; teaching is live online one-to-one
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The shape of a sensible week changes with the year group, because the amount of unavoidable schoolwork changes with it.

Y9Ages 13-14

Year 9

The year with the most spare evening capacity, which makes it the cheapest year to fix anything. One session a week, or a short block of six to ten, aimed at algebraic fluency and writing that answers the question set. Families who use Year 9 well rarely need a weekly arrangement in Year 11.

Option choices are made in this year in Dubai schools, and in this belt they interact with the commute: a subject that depends on frequent after-school catch-up is harder to sustain from a school fifty minutes away. Ask the school what each option expects outside lesson time before choosing.

Y10Ages 14-15

Year 10

Content is delivered across the year, so the useful pattern is one subject supported weekly with past-paper questions by topic as each topic is taught. Sixty minutes at a realistic hour beats ninety minutes that starts too late, particularly for students on the Al Barsha run who reach Serena after 16:20.

Some Dubai schools enter students for a subject in the June series at the end of Year 10, which moves the entry deadline months earlier and turns the Year 10 evening into an exam-year evening. Confirm the entry list in writing with the exam office rather than assuming the standard two-year pattern.

Y11Ages 15-16

Year 11

The year where the week has to be designed rather than filled. Timed papers need a fresh student, so for a long commute they belong at the weekend, with weekday evenings used for marking and corrections. A paper attempted at 20:00 after fifty minutes in traffic measures tiredness and misdirects the next month of work.

Cambridge runs June and November series for UAE candidates; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November. The second series is a resit route, so a poor January mock is a decision rather than a disaster — provided the family has kept a reserve for a second entry fee.

POST16Ages 16+

After IGCSE

A Level or IB Diploma, and in this belt often a change of school and commute. The step up rewards sustained argument and independent work rather than coverage, which is why a short bridging block over the summer consistently outperforms remediation in the first term of Year 12.

For Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, five accredited IGCSE or GCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3 are required, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one A Level at grade E or two AS Levels at E. Verify current requirements on moe.gov.ae.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects Serena families ask about, with the codes to quote and a note on how each one fits into a week with limited evening time.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580 / Pearson 4MA1)

Core/Extended; Foundation/Higher

The subject most worth a dedicated weekly slot, because progress compounds and because method marks recover quickly. Confirm the tier before booking, since it sets the ceiling and determines which past papers are worth the hour.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 / Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Needs concentration for problem setup, so it belongs in the earliest slot available or at the weekend. Electricity is the reliable weak point in UAE cohorts and is the right first target for a short block.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 / Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Mole calculations need a fresh student; qualitative analysis wording and organic reaction types are recall-based and work fine late in the evening. That split makes chemistry easy to schedule around a difficult commute.

Biology (Cambridge 0610 / Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended

The most late-slot-tolerant science. Command-term marking, diagram labelling and data interpretation all work at 19:30, and the dominant loss — describing where explanation was required — is a marking habit rather than a content gap.

Combined and Coordinated Sciences

Double and single award

All three disciplines feed one or two shared grades, so the weakest sets the ceiling. For a family with limited evening time, targeting that one discipline is both cheaper and more effective than three weekly sessions.

English Language (Cambridge 0500 / 0990)

First Language

Composition needs an alert student; reading technique and annotation practice do not. A useful subject to place in whichever slot the maths or science work cannot use.

English as a Second Language (0510 / 0511)

Core and Extended

A different course from First Language and frequently confused with it at booking. Speaking and listening are examined, and speaking practice works in any slot because it is conversation rather than sustained writing.

Economics and Business Studies

IGCSE

Evaluation question structures take two or three sessions to install and transfer immediately. Case reading is homework rather than tutored time, which makes these subjects efficient for a household with a short week.

Computer Science (0478 / 4CP0)

IGCSE

Pseudocode and hand-tracing need focus; binary and data representation are formulaic and survive a late slot. Students who code fluently still lose marks on board-standard written notation.

Arabic and Islamic Education

First and additional language

Mandatory in Dubai private schools under KHDA requirements whatever the licensed curriculum, with separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs. Real timetabled work competing for the same evening, and excluded from the five subjects counted for British-track equivalency.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to structure the week, all delivered live online one-to-one or in a small pair, with no travel on either side.

One weekday slot, content matched to the hour

The standard arrangement, with the content chosen for the time of day rather than the syllabus order. For students arriving by 16:05 that means new technique in the earliest hour; for students arriving at 16:40 it means marking, corrections and recall work, with the demanding material moved elsewhere in the week.

  • Fixed slot set against the real arrival time
  • Session content planned for the hour, not just the topic
  • Notes after each session naming coverage and set work
  • Movable within the week when a school event clashes

Weekend morning plus a short weekday review

The arrangement that actually works for Year 11 students on the long commute: timed papers and new technique on a Saturday or Sunday morning when the student is fresh, and a shorter weekday evening slot for marking the week's attempts and working corrections. It takes more planning and it is the difference between a plan that holds and one that collapses in February.

  • Timed attempts when the student is alert, not at 20:00
  • Weekday evening kept short and used for corrections
  • Suits a 40-55 minute afternoon return
  • Keeps the total weekly commitment realistic

Pair slot with a neighbouring household

Two students on the same board, tier and subject sharing one session, which lowers the cost per student and halves the scheduling burden across two families. Common between Serena, Villanova and Mudon. Works for content and exam technique; does not work where the boards or tiers differ, which in this belt is frequent enough to check first.

  • Same board, tier and similar starting point required
  • Two to four students so everybody still answers questions
  • No journey for either household
  • Not used for coursework supervision

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Serena

01

What the local search actually returns

  • Map results rank proximity, prominence and category, never specification knowledge
  • Run one search for what is near you and a second for board, code and tier
  • For tiered subjects with a target grade, the two lists rarely match
  • IB Gram has no UAE centre, office or home-visit service

Type the phrase from a Serena address and you get three kinds of result, none of which is ranked on teaching quality. Tuition centres with verified locations in Motor City and Sports City, which rank because they are the nearest businesses in the category. Agencies based elsewhere in Dubai that list Dubailand as a service area, which rank on prominence. And individual adverts whose location field describes an aspiration rather than a commute.

That is not a criticism of any of them; it is how local search works. A map pack ranks proximity, prominence and category relevance. 'Can teach Cambridge 0580 Extended to the standard that moves a 5 to a 7' is not a category, and no amount of reviews makes it one. The result set answers a question about geography while the parent was asking about a specification.

The practical response is to run two searches and keep them separate. Use the local one to find out what venues and in-home options genuinely exist near you and what they charge, which is real information and is priced in this page's tables. Then search on board, code and tier — 0580 Extended, 4CH1, 0610 — and compare the two shortlists. For a mainstream subject they may overlap; for a tiered subject with a specific target grade they often do not.

IB Gram belongs on the second list only. There is no centre near Serena, no UAE office, and no tutor who will arrive at a Dubailand address, because home visits are an India-only service. If a venue or a visitor is what you want, the local list is genuinely worth working through, and this page gives you the numbers to judge it with.

02

Centre, visitor or screen: the week's time budget

Here is the comparison that decides it for most households in this community, and it is not about money. It is about how many hours of the week each option takes from the family, counting the parts that never appear on an invoice.

A centre visit costs the parent sixty to eighty minutes of driving plus the waiting time, so roughly two hours of household time per session. For one child once a week that is manageable. For two children on different days it is four hours, which in practice means one parent's evening is spent in a car park twice a week for a school year.

An in-home visit costs the family nothing in driving and is paid for in the rate, because nobody absorbs a hundred minutes of unpaid travel. It also narrows the choice of tutor to those willing to make that drive at that hour, and it fixes the session time to whatever suits their route rather than your bus.

An online session costs neither side any travel, which is why the slot can be chosen around the arrival time and why a clashed session can usually be moved inside the same week rather than forfeited. The table sets all of it out, including the two options families forget: free school support, and a student working alone with properly marked papers, which costs nothing and is better than a badly aimed paid hour. Read the table by column rather than by row: the time column is the one families get wrong, and the last column is the one that decides whether the teaching will be any good.

03

Building a week that survives Year 10 and Year 11

Most tutoring arrangements in this belt fail for scheduling reasons rather than teaching ones. A family books the slot that was offered, it half works, attendance slips, and by February everyone has concluded that tutoring does not help. The fix is to design the week around the arrival band before choosing anything else.

The principle is that work requiring sustained reasoning needs a fresh student, and work that responds to something already on the page does not. New mathematical technique, physics problem setup, extended writing and timed papers belong in the best hour available. Marking, corrections, recall material, command-term phrasing and planning survive a late start perfectly well, and some of them are better when the student is calm rather than sharp.

From that, three week shapes emerge for the three arrival bands in this community. Early arrivals, home by 16:05, get the most valuable tutoring hour in the belt and should spend it on the hardest content rather than on checking homework. Middle arrivals, home around 16:20, can run a single weekday session at 17:30 if the content is chosen sensibly. Late arrivals, home at 16:40 or after, need the weekend-plus-short-weekday split, and will waste money on anything else.

The table below sets out those three shapes. It is worth showing to any provider you are considering: a tutor who responds by insisting on one fixed weekly hour regardless of your arrival time has told you how much thought the arrangement will get.

What your school already provides free

  • Ask about subject clinics, pre-mock revision, lunchtime catch-up and extra marking
  • Teachers see what a tutor cannot: classwork, pace and what is coming next
  • Where school support is good, buy narrowly from outside
  • Count the second school run; from Serena it is not a small cost

Before buying anything, find out what is already included, because families in this belt routinely pay for things their school offers. This is not a small saving: it can be the difference between needing a weekly arrangement and needing a short block.

Most Dubai secondary schools run some combination of after-school subject clinics, departmental revision sessions in the run-up to mocks, lunchtime catch-up for specific topics, and a head of department who will tell you candidly how a cohort is doing. Several also provide access to question banks and will mark additional past papers if a student asks. None of that is advertised to parents in the way a tuition centre advertises.

The reason to start there is not only cost. The school's teachers know what has been taught, what is coming, and how the student performs in class, which no external tutor can see. Where school support is good, the efficient purchase from outside is narrow: one diagnosed gap, or exam technique, or the thing the school cannot provide — a second explanation from a different direction for a student who has not clicked with the first.

The one thing to count honestly is the time cost. After-school support often means a late pick-up or a second run from Serena, which for the Al Barsha cluster is another forty-minute drive. That is a real constraint rather than an excuse, and it is why the honest comparison includes your car as well as your money.

05

What each option costs in AED

With the time budget established, the money. These are published Dubai market figures from the parties named, not IB Gram's price list; we quote per student after the free trial lesson, once somebody has looked at marked work.

Budget online tuition is advertised from roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour, with Tutopiya publishing from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. A qualified subject tutor teaching online runs AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. IGCSE and A Level specialists are quoted at AED 200 to 450 or more, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table showing AED 200 to 450+. Premium named tutors reach AED 650, per BartyED.

In-home visits run AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, per Bestimate at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors at AED 200 to 500, and Serena sits at the upper end because of the drive. Monthly packages advertised in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for one hour a week are AED 240 to 600 budget, AED 600 to 1,200 mid and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support.

Set those against the time column from the earlier table and the comparison changes shape. A group class at a centre is the cheapest hourly option and the most expensive in household time. An online specialist is the most expensive hourly option and the cheapest in everything else. Which is right depends on whether your constraint is money or the week, and most families in this community discover it is the week.

Choosing between two tutors who are both available

  • Which code and tier, answered without asking for the textbook
  • What they want to see first: marked work, not a placement test
  • How work is marked: to the mark scheme, or ticked
  • How many sessions, what happens when it is done, and what happens when a school event clashes
  • What they will not do with any coursework

Once scheduling and budget are settled, families are often left with two plausible options and no way to choose. These are the questions that separate them, and none of them is about experience in general.

Ask which syllabus code and tier they would work from, and listen for whether the answer arrives immediately or after a request for the textbook. Ask what they would want to see before the first session: the right answer is marked work and task sheets, not a placement test. Ask how they mark — whether work is marked to the board's mark scheme with method marks and notation treated seriously, or ticked for being broadly correct.

Then ask two questions about the arrangement rather than the teaching. How many sessions do you think this will take, and what happens when it is done? A tutor who names a number and a finish point is thinking about your child; one who cannot is thinking about a standing slot. And what happens if a school event clashes — because in this community it will, repeatedly, and the answer determines how much of what you buy you actually receive.

Finally, the boundary question for anyone who will go near coursework: what will you not do? A tutor who states the line without hesitation is safe. One who offers to 'help with the writing' is a risk to the entry rather than to the budget. That question costs nothing to ask and is the single most informative thing in the conversation.

07

The admin that quietly decides the year

  • Get the entry statement: board, code and tier, subject by subject
  • UAE Cambridge candidates sit June and November; February/March is India-only
  • Pearson runs May/June and November; use the live official timetable
  • Ask which of Cambridge's six zones your centre is in before diarising anything

Three administrative facts do more to shape an IGCSE year than any tutoring decision, and all three live with the school rather than with a tutor. Getting them in writing early is free and prevents the most expensive kinds of mistake.

The first is the entry statement: board, syllabus code and tier for every subject. Departments within one Dubai school sometimes differ, so check subject by subject rather than school-wide. This settles which past papers are worth any hour you buy, and it occasionally contradicts what a family has assumed for two years.

The second is the series. Cambridge runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series for UAE candidates; the February/March series is offered to India only and does not apply to your child, whatever a general article says. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November, with the November 2026 final timetable having run from late October to 19 November 2026 and June 2026 results reaching students on 20 August 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables that can be revised, so work from the live official one.

The third is specific to Cambridge and almost nobody knows it. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states in its exams officers' guide that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for the zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam where the wrong zone timetable was used. Ask your school's exam officer which zone the centre sits in, before anything is printed or put in a family calendar.

08

Permits, and what you can verify at no cost

  • MoHRE private tuition work permit: free, two years, Resolution 710 of 2023 (u.ae)
  • Two working days through MoHRE's Private Tutor Licensing service, no listed fee
  • No published fine schedule, so distrust any figure quoted at you
  • Centres with premises need a KHDA Educational Services Permit; we hold none

If you are hiring an individual directly, one check costs nothing and is worth making regardless of price. Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted work rather than unregulated work.

The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and u.ae states it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Applications go through MoHRE's 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing' service, with a two-working-day completion time and no listed fee.

Two things follow. Because the permit is free, nobody should be adding a licensing cost to a quote. And because u.ae states that individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, a tutor who describes it as optional has told you something useful about how they operate. No fine schedule has been published, so any specific amount quoted at you is unverified.

Separately, an operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute. That is a specific licence with initial approval, completion steps and annual renewal, and it is the thing a tuition centre should hold. IB Gram holds none, claims none, has no UAE office or centre, and names no school as a client or partner. KHDA oversees the quality of private education in Dubai; that is a fact about the regulator rather than an endorsement of any provider, including us.

Where we tutor

Serena and what is actually near it

Distances in this belt are short on a map and long at 16:00. These are the places a Serena family would realistically drive to, and what each costs in time.

Serena

Bella Casa and Casa Viva clusters off Al Qudra Road. Fibre throughout, which is the practical precondition for a reliable online session. Nothing in walking distance, so every in-person option is a drive.

Motor City and Dubai Sports City

Thirty to forty minutes each way in the late afternoon, and where most of the belt's tuition centres sit. The nearest literal answer to 'near me', and the one whose time cost families consistently underestimate.

Mudon

Five to ten minutes, with a small number of community facilities and the same school intake as Serena. Occasionally a practical meeting point for a shared arrangement between two households.

Villanova

Adjacent and on the same bus routes. The most useful community to pair with for a shared online slot, since neither family travels and the school intake matches closely.

Arabian Ranches 3

Fifteen to twenty-five minutes, closer to the Ranches schools and with earlier arrivals home. Families here can start sessions earlier than Serena can, which is worth knowing when comparing notes.

Remraam

Further out again, with the latest arrivals in this group. For families here the weekend-plus-short-weekday pattern is usually the only arrangement that survives a full year.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Serena

Dubailand, Motor City and Arabian Ranches

The nearest cluster and a mixed-board one, so the entry statement settles what a recommendation cannot. Bus returns to Serena from this group are typically 15:45 to 16:20, which supports the most valuable session hour available in this community.

  • GEMS Metropole School, Motor City
  • Victory Heights Primary School
  • Jebel Ali School
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Arabian Ranches
  • Ranches Primary School
  • South View School
  • GEMS FirstPoint School

Al Barsha, Jumeirah Park and Jumeirah South

Larger British-curriculum schools running IGCSE at sixteen, with a 40 to 55 minute afternoon return to Serena. Students travelling here are the ones for whom the week has to be designed rather than filled.

  • Dubai British School, Jumeirah Park
  • Safa Community School
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • Nord Anglia International School, Dubai

Schools are named as local context for board mix and commutes only; no affiliation, endorsement, partnership or client relationship with any named school or group is implied or held.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the arrival time and the subject

The school, the year group, the subject with its code and tier if you have them, and the time your child actually walks in the door. The last item decides which of the three week shapes applies, and therefore what we offer you — which is a different conversation from reciting available slots.

  2. 02

We propose a week, not just an hour

For early arrivals that is usually one weekday session at the best hour. For late arrivals it is a weekend slot for timed work plus a shorter weekday slot for marking. Proposing the same fixed hour to everybody is how arrangements collapse in February, so we do not.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson with the matched tutor

A real lesson with the person who would continue, no card required, built around marked work rather than a placement test. By the end you should know which paper the marks are leaking from and roughly how many sessions it needs. Wrong fit means another match.

  4. 04

A plan with a session count and a stop date

The plan names the target, the order, the number of sessions and the date it ends, set against the school's mock week and the board entry deadline. It also names what happens when a school event clashes, which in this community is a question of when rather than if.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The week is designed, not filled

Serena children arrive home anywhere between 15:45 and 16:40, and the same weekly hour does not suit all of them. We propose a week shape based on the arrival band, including weekend slots for timed work where the commute makes a weekday paper pointless.

Household time counted honestly

A centre visit from Serena costs around two hours of family time per session and never appears on an invoice. Online delivery removes it for both sides, which for two children on different days is four hours of the week returned.

Free school support identified first

Subject clinics, pre-mock revision and extra marking are often already available and rarely advertised to parents. We would rather a family bought narrowly from outside after using what the school provides than paid twice for the same thing.

Specification before scheduling

Board, syllabus code and tier come from the entry statement and are confirmed before the first session. Practice on the wrong board's papers is wasted money that goes unnoticed for weeks, and in a mixed-board belt like this one it is a real risk.

Figures and claims you can check

Every AED band names its publisher, every regulatory statement names u.ae, KHDA or MoHRE, and there is no UAE office, no regulator approval, no named school as a client, and no home visits anywhere in the country — that is India-only.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Serena: your questions answered

Why does searching for a tutor near Serena return centres in Motor City?+

Because local search ranks businesses by proximity, prominence and category relevance, and a tuition centre with a verified address in Motor City satisfies all three from an Al Qudra Road postcode. 'Can teach Cambridge 0580 Extended well' is not a category any map can rank. Use the local results for what they are good for — finding out what venues and in-home options exist near you and what they charge — then run a separate search on board, syllabus code and tier for the teaching question.

How much time does a tuition centre actually cost a Serena family?+

Thirty to forty minutes each way to Motor City or Sports City in the late afternoon, plus parking and waiting, so roughly two hours of household time per session. For one child once a week that is manageable; for two children on different days it is four hours, which is most of a working morning spent in a car. That cost never appears on an invoice, which is exactly why it is easy to accept, and it is the item most families in this belt underestimate.

My child gets home at 16:40. Is weekly tutoring pointless?+

No, but a single weekday evening session will underperform and probably lapse. The arrangement that works is a weekend morning slot for the demanding work — new technique, timed papers, extended writing — and a shorter weekday evening slot for marking the week's attempts, working corrections and recall material. That split takes more planning and holds for a full year. A forced 17:30 session after fifty minutes in traffic usually happens two weeks in three and then stops.

What free information should a Serena parent get from the school first?+

Three things, all free. The entry statement, naming the board, syllabus code and tier for every subject, checked subject by subject because departments sometimes differ. What support the school already runs — subject clinics, pre-mock revision, lunchtime catch-up, extra marking — since families in this belt routinely buy what is already included. And for Cambridge entries, which of the six administrative zones the centre sits in, because the zone determines which version of the timetable applies.

How do I choose between two tutors who are both free at the right time?+

Ask five questions. Which syllabus code and tier would you work from, answered without a request for the textbook. What do you want to see before the first session — the right answer is marked work, not a placement test. How do you mark: to the board's mark scheme, or ticked as broadly right. How many sessions do you think this takes, and what happens when it is done. And what will you not do with coursework. The last one is the most informative and costs nothing to ask.

Does an online tutor cost less than one who visits Serena?+

Usually, and the difference is the drive rather than the teaching. Market in-home rates run AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, per Bestimate at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors at AED 200 to 500, with Serena at the upper end because the round trip is eighty to a hundred and twenty minutes. The same qualified tutor online is AED 150 to 300, and an IGCSE specialist AED 200 to 450 or more. The premium buys presence, which is worth paying for in specific cases only.

Does a Motor City group class beat one-to-one once the drive is counted?+

Per hour, clearly; packages in this market are advertised from around AED 799 for eight sessions. Per outcome it depends on the diagnosis. A group delivers one pace and one sequence to everyone, which suits a student who is broadly on track and wants more practice, and cannot address an individual gap. Add the two hours of household time each visit costs from Serena and, for a specific diagnosed problem, a short one-to-one block is usually cheaper to the finish line.

What should the session look like during mock week?+

Keep the slot and change its use. Mock weeks fill a student's evenings, so teaching new content during them wastes the hour. Spend it on targeted review, then do the valuable work afterwards: mark the returned scripts properly, label every lost mark as knowledge, method or reading the question, and rebuild the plan from the totals. Mocks are the most accurate diagnostic a family will get and they are free, yet most households read only the overall grade.

Will a tutor travel to our home in Serena?+

Not one of ours. IB Gram teaches UAE students one-to-one over live video, there is no IB Gram centre or office in the country, and home visits are a service we run only in India — so nobody will arrive at a Dubailand address. Independent in-home tutors do work in this belt at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel. If a person in the room is what your child needs, that market exists and this page gives you the figures to judge it with.

Can we move a session when a school event clashes?+

With an online arrangement, usually within the same week, because there is no journey to re-plan on either side. That matters more than families expect across two years: school events in this community move at short notice, and a missed in-home visit is a wasted journey that is normally charged in full. Between mock weeks, travel and illness, the difference between rescheduling and forfeiting adds up to several hours of teaching either kept or lost.

Do both of my children need their own tutor and slot?+

Usually their own slot, and often their own tutor. Siblings in this belt are frequently on different boards or tiers and on different bus routes with arrival times forty minutes apart, so staggered slots work better than a shared one — commonly the younger child earlier and the exam-year student later. A genuine pair session needs the same board, tier, subject and a similar starting point, which is more often found between neighbouring households in Serena, Villanova and Mudon than between siblings.

When do IGCSE exams fall for a candidate sitting in Dubai?+

Cambridge runs a June series and a November series for UAE candidates; the February/March series is offered to India only, so any article quoting a February window is describing another country's candidates. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November — the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and June 2026 results reached students on 20 August 2026. Because provisional timetables for later series can be revised, use the board's live official timetable rather than a restated date.

Should I check a tutor's UAE permit myself?+

If you are hiring an individual directly, yes, and it costs nothing. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and u.ae states it is granted free of charge for two years, applied for through MoHRE's Private Tutor Licensing service with a two-working-day completion time. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Since the permit is free, no tutor should pass on a licensing cost.

Do Arabic and Islamic Education compete with tutoring time in Dubai?+

Yes, and they are mandatory. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with instructional time calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit and at least 25 minutes advised for any mandatory-subject lesson. Separate classes must be organised for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes are prohibited. For a non-Arab student these are real timetabled periods and real homework, and they are frequently the part of the week nobody is supporting.

Design the week, then book the hour

Before shortlisting an IGCSE tutor near Serena, work out two things that cost nothing: what time your child actually gets home, and what support the school already runs. The first decides whether a weekday evening session can do demanding work or whether the timed papers belong at the weekend. The second often shrinks what you need to buy. Send us the arrival time, the subject with its code and tier, and the last marked paper, and you will get a proposed week rather than a list of slots. Teaching is live, one-to-one and online.
