IGCSE Home Tutor in Serena

Looking for an IGCSE home tutor in Serena usually comes down to timing. The bus reaches the Al Qudra Road communities somewhere between 15:45 and 16:40 depending on the school, and what is left of the evening decides what a session can do. This page maps the arrival times to the work that fits them. IB Gram teaches one-to-one, live online.

  • Slots set against the real bus arrival, not a tutor's route
  • Board and tier confirmed from the entry statement first
  • Revision work matched to the time of day it can survive
  • Free first lesson with the matched tutor before anything is booked

IB & IGCSE in Serena

In Serena, the bus timetable decides what tutoring can achieve

Serena sits at the outer edge of the Dubailand belt, off Al Qudra Road, built around townhouse clusters including Bella Casa and Casa Viva, with Mudon on one side and Remraam and Villanova nearby. Its children do not all attend one school. Some travel ten minutes to the Dubailand and Sustainable City schools, others thirty-five to fifty minutes to the larger British-curriculum schools in Al Barsha and Jumeirah Park. That spread is the first fact any tutoring plan has to deal with.

The practical effect is a difference of nearly an hour in when the school day actually ends. A Year 11 arriving at 15:50 can eat, settle and start a serious session at 16:30. A Year 11 arriving at 16:40 after fifty minutes on Al Khail Road cannot do the same work at 17:15, whatever the diary says. Both students are often sold the same weekly arrangement, and only one of them gets value from it.

An in-home tutor adds a second journey on top of the first. Serena is not on the way to anywhere for most of Dubai's tutoring workforce: a round trip is eighty to a hundred and twenty minutes on an ordinary weekday. That is why market in-home rates run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, against roughly AED 150 to 300 for the same qualified tutor teaching online, and why the tutors willing to make the drive are selected by willingness rather than by specification knowledge.

IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service we offer only in India, and Serena students are taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The gain is not just the saved journey: the slot becomes a scheduling decision rather than a logistics constraint, so the harder subject can take the earlier, better hour.

This page is built around that. Which schools this community feeds and when each one really releases. What IGCSE work fits an early slot and what survives a late one. How to confirm the board and tier before a single session is booked. What the market charges and what the drive adds. How mock season, Ramadan and the Dubai calendar move the plan. And who is legally permitted to teach your child at all.

Every figure here names its source so you can check it rather than take it on trust. Where a decision depends on your child's specific entry, the answer is in the school's entry statement rather than on any page, including this one. For scale, Dubai's private sector runs 227 schools teaching 17 curricula to 387,441 students, with UK curricula accounting for 37 per cent of enrolment, per Dubai Media Office figures for 2024-25. That is why two Serena neighbours can both say their child sits IGCSEs and mean different boards, different tiers and different practical routes.

At a glance

  • Serena children attend schools from Dubailand to Al Barsha: nearly an hour of difference in arrival
  • Realistic weekday starts: 16:30 for the near schools, 18:00 for the Al Barsha run
  • Market in-home rates AED 180-500/hr with travel; qualified online AED 150-300
  • Confirm board, syllabus code and tier from the entry statement before booking
  • Teaching is live online one-to-one; no UAE home visits are offered
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The right session content changes with the year group as much as with the subject, because what the evening can support changes too.

Y9Ages 13-14

Year 9, before the course begins

The year with the most usable evening time and the least pressure, which makes it the most efficient year to spend in. Algebraic fluency, scientific notation and writing that answers the question set are the three things that decide IGCSE grades two years later. A short block here routinely removes the need for a year of Year 11 sessions.

Year 9 in Dubai is also when option choices are made, including triple versus combined science. For Serena families the choice interacts with the commute: a subject requiring frequent after-school practical catch-up is harder to sustain from a school fifty minutes away than from one ten minutes away.

Y10Ages 14-15

Year 10, content delivery

The year to work topic by topic with past-paper questions as each topic is taught, so gaps surface early rather than in Year 11 revision. For students on the long commute, the sustainable pattern is one 60-minute session at a realistic hour rather than 90 minutes that starts too late and finishes badly.

Some Dubai schools enter students for one or two subjects in the June series at the end of Year 10. If your child's school does, the entry deadline sits months earlier and the Year 10 evening is already an exam-year evening. Get the entry list from the exam office in writing.

Y11Ages 15-16

Year 11, mocks and the series

The year when slot quality matters most, because the work is timed papers and strict marking. A paper attempted at 20:00 after a long day tells you about fatigue rather than about preparation. Where the commute forces a late slot, the fix is to move timed attempts to weekend mornings and use weekday evenings for marking and review.

Cambridge runs June and November series for UAE candidates and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November. The second series functions as a resit route, which means a poor January mock is a decision point rather than a catastrophe, and the decision is easier to make calmly if the plan already allows for it.

POST16Ages 16+

After IGCSE

A Level or IB Diploma, and in this belt frequently a change of school and therefore of commute. The step up is steeper than grades suggest: both routes reward sustained argument and independent work rather than coverage. Bridging support over the summer is consistently better value than remediation in the first term.

For Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, five accredited IGCSE or GCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3 are required, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one A Level at E or two AS Levels at E. Verify current requirements on moe.gov.ae before relying on them.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects Serena households ask about, with the syllabus codes to quote and a note on when in the evening each kind of work is realistically possible.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580 / Pearson 4MA1)

Core/Extended; Foundation/Higher

New technique needs an early slot; past-paper marking survives a late one. Confirm the tier first, since it sets the grade ceiling. Method marks lost to unshown working are the cheapest marks in the subject to recover.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 / Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Electricity is the reliable weak point in UAE cohorts and needs concentration, so it belongs in the earliest available hour. Alternative-to-practical method writing and graph work are far more tolerant of a late start.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 / Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Moles calculations under time pressure are a fluency problem and need a fresh student. Qualitative analysis wording and organic reaction types are learnable late in the evening because they are recall and pattern rather than reasoning.

Biology (Cambridge 0610 / Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended

The most late-slot-friendly science: command-term marking, diagram labelling and data interpretation all work at 19:30. The commonest loss is answering 'explain' with description, which is a marking habit rather than a content gap.

Combined and Coordinated Sciences

Double and single award

All three disciplines feed one or two shared grades, so the weakest discipline sets the ceiling. For a student on the long commute, targeting that single discipline is both cheaper and kinder than three sessions a week.

English Language (Cambridge 0500 / 0990)

First Language

Composition and directed writing need an alert student and benefit from an early slot. Reading-question technique and annotation practice are perfectly workable later, which makes English a useful subject to schedule around a difficult commute.

English as a Second Language (0510 / 0511)

Core and Extended

A different course from First Language and often confused with it. Listening and speaking components are examined, and speaking practice works well in any slot because it is conversation rather than sustained writing.

Economics and Business Studies

IGCSE

Evaluation question structures take two or three sessions to install and can be taught at almost any hour. Case-study reading is homework rather than tutored time, which makes these subjects efficient for families with short evenings.

Computer Science (0478 / 4CP0)

IGCSE

Pseudocode and hand-tracing need focus and belong earlier; theory topics such as binary and data representation are formulaic and survive a late slot. Students fluent in Python still lose marks on board-standard notation.

Arabic and Islamic Education

First and additional language

Mandatory in Dubai private schools under KHDA requirements whatever the licensed curriculum, with separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs. Excluded from the five subjects counted for Ministry of Education British-track equivalency, but real timetabled work that competes for the same evening.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats work for a Serena family, all delivered live online one-to-one or in a small pair, with no travel on either side.

Weekly one-to-one at a realistic hour

A fixed slot set against your child's actual arrival rather than a tutor's route, with the content chosen for the time of day. Sixty minutes suits most Year 10 students; ninety suits exam-year work when the slot is early enough to support it. The point of fixing it is that an evening with two bus timetables in it stops being renegotiated weekly.

  • Same tutor weekly, so the diagnosis carries forward
  • Session content matched to the slot, not just to the syllabus
  • Notes after each session naming coverage and set work
  • Can move later during Ramadan and back afterwards

Weekend timed-paper slot

For students on the long commute, a Saturday or Sunday morning session for timed papers and new technique, with a shorter weekday evening slot for marking and review. This is the arrangement that actually works for Al Barsha-bound Year 11 students, and almost nobody offers it because it requires planning around the family rather than the timetable.

  • Timed attempts when the student is fresh, not at 20:00
  • Weekday evening used for marking and corrections
  • Suits Year 11 students with a 40-55 minute return
  • Keeps the weekday commitment short and sustainable

Pair sessions with a neighbouring household

Two students on the same board, tier and subject sharing one slot, which lowers the cost per student and halves the scheduling problem for two families. Common between Serena, Villanova and Mudon. It works for content and exam technique and fails where the two students are on different boards, which in this belt is common enough to check first.

  • Same board, tier and similar starting point required
  • Two to four students so everybody still answers questions
  • No journey for either household
  • Not suitable for coursework supervision

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Serena

01

What Serena parents are really asking for

  • 'Home' usually means convenience and continuity, not specifically a visitor
  • Searching by travel radius selects tutors by postcode, not by specification
  • No UAE home visits from IB Gram; India-only service
  • The honest trade: a specification match and a better slot, no car outside

An IGCSE home tutor, in this community, means one-to-one teaching that happens at home at a time that survives the school run. It almost never means a specific preference for a stranger in the living room. When families describe what they want, they describe outcomes: no second car journey, no 20:30 start, the same tutor every week, and somebody who knows the specification rather than the subject in general.

Those requirements pull against each other once geography is involved. Restrict the search to tutors willing to drive to Al Qudra Road on a weekday afternoon and the pool shrinks to a handful, then you choose within it by availability. For a mainstream need that may be fine. For Pearson 4CH1 Chemistry at Higher tier with a January mock to recover from, the pool may contain nobody who has taught that specification.

IB Gram resolves it by separating the two things parents are conflating. The teaching is one-to-one and live, with a tutor matched to your child's board and tier, and it reaches a desk in Serena over video. No tutor arrives at a UAE address, in Serena or anywhere else, because home visits are an India-only service. What you gain is the specification match and the slot; what you give up is a car in the driveway.

The rest of this page is written for the family that wants that comparison made properly rather than asserted: the arrival times, the work that fits each slot, the board check, the market rates with sources, and the calendar that moves everything twice a year.

02

The Serena school run, hour by hour

This is the table that decides whether tutoring works in this community, and it is the one no tutoring page bothers to build. Below are the school clusters Serena children travel to, the realistic arrival at home, the earliest session start we would actually recommend, and the IGCSE work that fits the hour that follows.

Two patterns are worth drawing out. The nearest schools are not always the earliest arrivals, because pick-up congestion around Motor City and Sports City between 15:00 and 16:00 can add twenty minutes to a short drive. And the larger British-curriculum schools in Al Barsha release early but sit on the wrong side of the afternoon traffic, so an on-paper 15:15 finish reaches Serena at 16:30 or later.

Treat the final columns as the useful part. The principle is that work requiring sustained reasoning — new mathematical technique, physics problem setup, composition writing — needs the earliest hour available. Work that responds to something already on the page — marking a paper, correcting a past attempt, learning qualitative analysis wording, practising command-term phrasing — survives a late start perfectly well.

That principle has a counter-intuitive consequence for families on the long commute. Rather than fighting for an impossible 17:00 session that happens two weeks in three, move the demanding work to a weekend morning and keep a shorter weekday slot for marking and corrections. A later session that happens forty times beats an earlier one cancelled twelve times, and the second pattern is what most families accidentally buy.

03

What fits a late evening and what does not

  • Needs a fresh student: new technique, timed papers, extended writing, multi-step setup
  • Survives a late slot: marking, corrections, recall material, command-term phrasing, planning
  • A timed paper at 20:00 produces a misleading diagnosis as well as a bad score
  • The workable pattern on a long commute is weekend mornings plus a short weekday slot

Families on the long commute are often told that a late session is as good as an early one, which is not true, and then told that tutoring will not work for them, which is also not true. The accurate position is that the content has to change.

Work that needs a fresh student: first exposure to any abstract technique, timed papers, extended writing, multi-step problem setup in maths and physics, and anything where the student must hold several steps in mind at once. Attempt these at 20:00 and the result measures tiredness. Worse, a timed paper done badly at that hour produces a misleading diagnosis, and the next four sessions get aimed at a problem the student does not actually have.

Work that survives a late start: marking a paper the student has already attempted, going through corrections, learning recall-heavy material such as qualitative analysis observations or biology definitions, practising command-term phrasing, rehearsing speaking components, planning an essay structure, and talking through the next week's plan. None of these require sustained novel reasoning, and several are improved by the student being calm rather than sharp.

The practical arrangement that follows is a split week: demanding work on a weekend morning, review work in a short weekday slot. It is more effort to schedule and it is the difference between tutoring that holds for a year and tutoring that quietly collapses in February. We will propose it where the arrival time warrants it, rather than selling the standard weekly hour to everybody.

04

Confirm the board and the tier before booking any slot

Scheduling is half the problem; the other half is making sure the hour is spent on the right specification. Ask the school's exam office for the entry statement, which names the board, the syllabus code and the tier for every subject. Departments inside one Dubai school sometimes differ — Cambridge sciences with Pearson maths is a common combination — so check subject by subject.

The differences are not cosmetic. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 is tiered Core and Extended and includes a non-calculator written paper alongside a calculator paper; Pearson 4MA1 is tiered Foundation and Higher and permits a calculator in both papers. In the sciences, the practical assessment route differs, as does the style of questions about required practicals. Formula provision differs too.

That changes what a session should contain, which is why it changes scheduling as well. A Cambridge student needs regular non-calculator fluency work, which belongs in an early slot because it is mental arithmetic under pressure. A Pearson student needs calculator discipline — showing the input, sketching the display, not trusting a window that hides a root — which is a procedural habit that can be taught at almost any hour.

Confirm all of it against the board's current specification for your child's entry year, because paper structures and grading are revised between versions. Those documents are free on the board's own site and are what any competent tutor works from. Nobody should be charging you for them or supplying them as a resource pack.

What the market charges, and what the drive to Serena adds

Serena is among the furthest-out communities in this belt, so the travel component in any in-home quote is substantial. Market in-home one-to-one tuition in Dubai runs roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, with Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table showing AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to 500. Expect the upper half for this address.

Online, the same qualified subject tutor sits at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150, and an IGCSE or A Level specialist at AED 200 to 450 or more, with TutorChase publishing AED 270. Budget online tuition starts at AED 33 to 65, per Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65, and buys supervision rather than diagnosis.

The premium between the two formats for the same person is roughly AED 50 to 150 an hour, and across a school year of weekly sessions that is around AED 1,500 to 4,500 spent on driving. It buys presence, which is the right purchase for a child who genuinely cannot work on a screen and the wrong one for a Year 11 marking past papers. Monthly packages visible in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

These are market figures from the parties named rather than IB Gram's price list. We quote per student after the free trial lesson, because the right band depends on what the marked work shows: a Core-tier student securing the top of their tier and an Extended-tier student chasing the upper grades are not the same product.

Mock season, Ramadan and the Dubai calendar

  • Mock weeks: pause new content, mark the scripts, rebuild the plan from evidence
  • Ramadan: shorter school days, later slots, often post-Iftar, then back
  • Consolidation survives a disrupted routine; first exposure to new topics does not
  • Online sessions usually move within the week; missed home visits are charged

Three things reliably move a Serena family's tutoring plan during the year, and a plan that does not anticipate them is a plan that gets abandoned rather than adjusted.

Mock season is the first. Schools compress mocks into one or two weeks, during which a student's evenings are already full and a weekly session is better used for targeted review than for new content. The useful move is to pause new teaching, mark the mock scripts properly as they come back, and then rebuild the plan from what the scripts show. That is also the cheapest diagnostic a family will ever get, and it is free.

Ramadan is the second. Dubai schools shorten the day, which changes both arrival times and the hours in which concentration is available. Sessions commonly move later, often to post-Iftar, and hold at the new time for the month before moving back. Because nothing depends on a tutor's commute, the change is a diary adjustment rather than a renegotiation. It is also a sensible period to shift from new content to consolidation.

The third is school events and travel, which in this community are frequent. A clashed online session can usually be moved within the same week; a missed in-home visit is a wasted journey and is normally charged in full. Across a two-year IGCSE course that difference compounds into several hours of teaching either kept or lost, which is worth more than a small difference in the hourly rate.

Who is legally permitted to teach your child

  • MoHRE private tuition work permit: free, two years, Resolution 710 of 2023 (u.ae)
  • Applied for via MoHRE Private Tutor Licensing; two working days, no listed fee
  • No published fine schedule, so distrust any figure quoted at you
  • A KHDA Educational Services Permit applies to institutes with premises; we hold none

Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted work rather than unregulated work, and verifying it costs nothing. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and u.ae states it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students.

The application route is MoHRE's own 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing' service, through the smart app, website or e-services system, with a two-working-day completion time and no listed fee. Because the permit is free, no tutor should be passing on a licensing cost. And because u.ae states that individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, a tutor who describes the permit as optional has told you something useful. No fine schedule has been published, so treat any amount quoted at you as unverified.

The institutional layer is separate. An operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, a specific licence with initial approval, completion steps and annual renewal. IB Gram holds none, claims none, and has no UAE office or centre. KHDA is responsible for overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai, which is a fact about KHDA rather than an endorsement of anybody, and no phrase on this site should be read as regulator approval.

One rule from the next emirate is worth knowing, because families cross the border for schools. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. That is press-reported rather than quoted from the policy document, so verify the current wording — but do not arrange for your child's own class teacher to tutor them privately.

08

Entries, series and results for a UAE candidate

The calendar point most generic articles get wrong for this country is the exam series, and it is the one a family actually acts on. Cambridge International runs IGCSE exams in a June series and a November series. The February/March series is offered to India only and does not apply to a candidate sitting in the UAE, so advice built around a February window belongs to another country.

Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, and its exams officers' guide states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for the zone, adding that Cambridge cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam where the wrong zone timetable was used. Ask your school's exam officer which zone the centre sits in before anything is printed or diarised.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and in November. As checkable reference points: the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026; and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables for later series that may be revised, so work from the live official timetable rather than a restated date.

Working backwards, the order that matters is the school's internal coursework and mock deadlines first, then the board entry deadline, then the exam window. The first is earliest and is the one a family can actually miss. The November series also functions as the resit route after a June result, which is why a bad January mock is a decision point rather than a disaster.

Serena and the Al Qudra Road communities

These communities share buses, schools and the same afternoon arithmetic. The differences between them are small but they change what time a session can start.

Serena

Bella Casa and Casa Viva clusters off Al Qudra Road, at the outer edge of the belt. Fibre throughout, so online sessions are reliable. The spread of schools means two neighbouring households can have arrival times forty minutes apart.

Mudon

A few minutes closer in and sharing much of the bus network. Households here often run two routes from one address, which pushes sibling sessions into separate slots rather than consecutive ones.

Villanova

Adjacent, with nearly the same school intake and arrival pattern. Villanova and Serena families compare notes constantly, and pair sessions between the two work well online since neither household travels.

Remraam

The furthest out for most school routes, with the latest realistic starts in the belt. Evening slots after 19:00 are normal here rather than exceptional, which changes what the session should contain rather than whether it happens.

Arabian Ranches 3

Shortest run to the Ranches schools and the earliest arrivals in this group. Families here can book 17:00 comfortably, which is the right hour for new technique rather than for review.

Town Square

Apartment-dense with a large Year 10 and 11 cohort. The practical constraint is a quiet room at the hour the session falls, which is worth solving before a weekly slot is fixed rather than after.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the school, the subject and the arrival time

Four facts make the first exchange useful: the school, the year group, the subject with its syllabus code and tier if you have them, and what time your child actually walks in the door. The last one is not small talk — it decides which slots are worth offering and what each one should contain.

Matched to the specification, then to the slot

The tutor is selected because they teach that board and tier, and then we build the timetable around your arrival rather than around a route. If nobody suitable is free in the hour that works for you, we say so and offer what exists instead of filling the gap with a near-enough substitute.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson with the matched tutor

A genuine lesson with the person who would continue, no card required. It diagnoses against the specification — what your child can do, which paper the marks are leaking from — and it tests whether the pair of them work well together. A wrong fit means another match, not a paid block nobody enjoys.

  4. 04

A plan that fits the actual week

After the trial you get a plan naming the topics, the order and the session pattern — including, where the commute warrants it, a weekend slot for timed work and a shorter weekday slot for marking. It is set against the school's own deadlines and the board entry date rather than a generic schedule.

  5. 05

Adjusted for mocks, Ramadan and travel

The plan is revised when mock scripts come back, moved later during Ramadan and returned afterwards, and rescheduled rather than abandoned when school events clash. Each session produces notes naming what was covered and what was set, so both parents can see the picture.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The slot is built around your bus

Because nobody drives to Al Qudra Road, the session time is a scheduling choice rather than a logistics constraint. For a community whose children arrive home anywhere between 15:45 and 16:40, that is the single largest practical gain available.

Content matched to the hour

New technique, timed papers and extended writing go in the earliest slot available. Marking, corrections, recall material and command-term work go later. Selling the same weekly hour to every family regardless of arrival time is why tutoring collapses in February.

Specification before scheduling

Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 differ on tiering and calculator rules, and the sciences differ on practical routes. We confirm the board, code and tier from the entry statement before the first session rather than discovering a mismatch after a term.

Rescheduling that survives a Dubai year

Mock weeks, Ramadan, school events and travel all move sessions in this community. An online slot usually moves inside the same week; a missed home visit is a wasted journey and is normally charged. Across two years that is hours of teaching kept rather than lost.

Claims you can verify

Every AED band names its publisher, every regulatory statement names u.ae, KHDA or MoHRE, and there is no UAE office, no regulator approval, no named school as a client, and no home visits anywhere in the country — that is an India-only service.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Serena: your questions answered

What time can an IGCSE session realistically start in Serena?+

It depends on the school cluster. Children at the Dubailand and Sustainable City schools are usually home by 16:00 and can start comfortably at 16:30. The Arabian Ranches run supports 17:00. Students travelling back from the larger Al Barsha and Jumeirah Park schools arrive between 16:20 and 16:50, which makes 18:00 the earliest start we would actually recommend. Remraam and outer Dubailand routes push that later again. The arrival time matters more than the subject when planning the week.

Will an IGCSE tutor come to our house in Serena?+

Not through IB Gram. We teach UAE students one-to-one over live video, and home visits are a service we offer only in India, so no tutor will arrive at a Dubailand address. Independent in-home tutors do work in this belt at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, and Serena sits at the upper end of that because the round trip is eighty to a hundred and twenty minutes. If presence in the room is what your child needs, that market is the right place to look.

Can tutoring work if my child only gets home at 16:45?+

Yes, but the content has to change rather than the time being forced earlier. Work needing a fresh student — new technique, timed papers, extended writing, multi-step problem setup — belongs in the earliest hour you can get, which for a long commute often means a weekend morning. A shorter weekday evening slot is then used for marking the week's attempts, going through corrections, recall material and command-term phrasing. That split week holds for a year; a forced 17:00 session usually does not.

Which schools do Serena children usually attend?+

A wide spread rather than one catchment. The nearest cluster includes GEMS Metropole in Motor City, Victory Heights Primary, Jebel Ali School in DAMAC Hills, and the Arabian Ranches schools including Jumeirah English Speaking School and Ranches Primary. Many families travel further to the larger British-curriculum schools in Al Barsha and Jumeirah Park, such as Dubai British School Jumeirah Park, Safa Community School and Kings' School Al Barsha. Schools are named as local context only; no affiliation with any of them is implied or held.

Does a late session actually produce worse results?+

For some work, measurably. A timed paper attempted at 20:00 after a long commute tells you about fatigue rather than preparation, and a misleading diagnosis then misdirects the next several sessions. New abstract technique has the same problem: the student can follow it in the room and cannot reproduce it the next day. What genuinely works late is responding to something already on the page — marking, corrections, recall, planning — which is why the session content, not the session length, is what should change.

How do I confirm which board and tier my child is entered for?+

Ask the exam office for the entry statement. It names the board, the syllabus code and the tier for every subject, and it occasionally contradicts what a family has assumed for two years. Departments inside one Dubai school sometimes differ, with Cambridge sciences alongside Pearson maths being a common combination, so check subject by subject. The reason it matters for scheduling as well as content is that Cambridge maths includes a non-calculator paper while Pearson permits a calculator throughout, and those need different kinds of practice at different times of day.

What does an IGCSE tutor cost for a Serena family?+

A qualified subject tutor teaching online runs roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150; specialists are AED 200 to 450 or more, with TutorChase at AED 270. Budget online tuition is AED 33 to 65, per Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. In-home visits run AED 180 to 500 including travel, at the upper end for Serena. Monthly packages advertised in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions. Those are market figures, not our price list.

How should the plan change during mock week?+

Pause new content. Mock weeks fill a student's evenings, and a session during them is better spent on targeted review than on teaching. The valuable work comes afterwards: mark the returned scripts properly, label every lost mark as knowledge, method or reading the question, and rebuild the plan from what the totals show. Mocks are the cheapest and most accurate diagnostic a family will ever get, they are free, and most households read only the overall grade before filing them.

Do sessions move during Ramadan for Dubailand families?+

Usually, and it is straightforward. Dubai schools shorten the day, which changes arrival times and the hours in which concentration is available, so slots commonly move later and often to post-Iftar, holding at the new time for the month before moving back. Because no commute is involved, it is a diary adjustment rather than a renegotiation. It is also a sensible period to shift from new content to consolidation, since review and marking survive a disrupted routine far better than first exposure to a difficult topic.

When are IGCSE exams for a student sitting in Dubai?+

Cambridge runs a June series and a November series for UAE candidates. The February/March series is offered to India only, so any article quoting a February or March window is not describing your child's exams. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and in November. For reference, the November 2026 Pearson final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and June 2026 results reached students on 20 August 2026. Because provisional timetables can be revised, open the board's live official timetable rather than relying on a restated date.

What happens when a school event clashes with the session?+

It gets moved, usually within the same week, because there is no journey to re-plan on either side. This matters more than families expect over a two-year course: school events in this community move at short notice, and a missed in-home visit is a wasted journey that is normally charged in full. Across Year 10 and Year 11, with mock weeks, travel and illness, the difference between rescheduling and forfeiting adds up to several hours of teaching either kept or lost.

Can two children in the same Serena household share a tutor?+

They can share a tutor, but rarely a slot. Siblings are usually on different boards or tiers, and often on different bus routes with arrival times forty minutes apart, so consecutive slots work better than a shared one. Where two students genuinely match — same board, same tier, same subject, similar starting point — a pair session lowers the cost per student and halves the scheduling problem. That often works better between neighbouring households in Serena, Villanova and Mudon than between siblings.

Do private tutors teaching Serena children need a permit?+

Yes. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and u.ae states it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18, applying through MoHRE's Private Tutor Licensing service with a two-working-day completion time. Anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and since no fine schedule is published, distrust any amount quoted at you.

Does my child still take Arabic and Islamic Education alongside IGCSEs?+

In a Dubai private school, yes. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies in all private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with instructional time calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit and at least 25 minutes advised for any mandatory-subject lesson. Separate classes must be organised for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes are prohibited. Note that for Ministry of Education British-track equivalency, Arabic and Islamic Education are excluded from the five subjects that count, which is worth knowing before option choices are finalised.

Start with the arrival time

The useful first message from a Serena family names three things: the school, the subject with its syllabus code and tier, and the time your child actually gets home. With those we can tell you honestly which slots exist, what each one should contain, and whether a weekend session for timed work makes more sense than a weekday hour. The first lesson is free and taught by the tutor who would continue. All teaching is live, one-to-one and online on Gulf Standard Time, and nobody drives to Al Qudra Road.
