IB and IGCSE tutors for Muhaisnah families

Most families searching for IB and IGCSE tutors in Muhaisnah have a budget before they have a shortlist, and nobody in this market will give them a number. This page gives the numbers first: what the Dubai market charges by tier, who publishes each figure, what each band of spending actually buys, and the order to buy in. Lessons for Muhaisnah students are one-to-one over live video, so none of the fee is paying for a car.

  • Every AED figure on this page attributed to the provider who published it
  • The permit question answered with the regulation and the article number
  • Spending ranked by what moves a grade, not by what is easiest to sell
  • No travel inside the fee, because lessons run over live video

IB & IGCSE in Muhaisnah

Price first, because that is the real question

Three of the six strongest pages competing for tutoring searches in this city publish no price at all. One of them has a frequently asked question that asks what tutoring costs and then declines to answer it. The two that do give figures quote US dollars, which is not what a family in Muhaisnah pays rent in. That silence is not an accident: a page with no number cannot be compared with anything, which suits the seller and nobody else.

So this page starts with the money. Published market rates in Dubai run from around AED 45 an hour at the university-student end to AED 650 at the named-examiner end, and the spread is explained almost entirely by two things: the format, and what the tutor can diagnose. Subject matters less than parents expect. Neighbourhood matters almost not at all, except that in-home rates rise with the drive.

Muhaisnah is a district where this matters more than in most. It runs from the villa and townhouse plots of Muhaisnah 2 through apartment blocks to the labour accommodation of Muhaisnah 4, and the household incomes along that stretch are not comparable. A page that quotes one rate as though it suits everyone is useless here. What a family needs is the whole ladder, an honest statement of what each rung buys, and a sensible order to spend in.

The order is the part nobody publishes. Given a fixed monthly figure, some purchases move a grade and some do not. A full marked past paper with a specialist walking through every lost mark changes a student's technique permanently and costs one or two hours. A term of general subject teaching for a student whose knowledge is already adequate changes almost nothing and costs twenty. Spending badly is more common in this market than spending too little.

There is also a legal question that the price conversation hides. Private tutoring in the UAE requires a work permit, it is free, and it takes two working days to obtain. A tutor at the bottom of the rate ladder who has not bothered to get something that costs nothing has told you something useful about how carefully they work. The permit table further down sets out which categories of person may hold one and how a parent can check.

Tuition for UAE families is delivered one-to-one over live video, and IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai; the in-home service runs only in India. For a budget-conscious household that removes the single largest avoidable cost in this market, because the published in-home premium is substantially travel through the slowest hours of the Dubai afternoon. It also widens the pool, so a family paying a mid-market rate can still reach a tutor who has marked the paper their child sits, rather than choosing from whoever is willing to drive out to Muhaisnah at six in the evening.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three routes cover almost every student in this district, and each one has a different cost profile across the two years. The notes below give the spending shape rather than restating the programme.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE

Eight or nine subjects over two years, examined in terminal papers with practical or alternative-to-practical components in the sciences. Cambridge tiers many subjects into Core and Extended, and a Core entry caps the grade at C or 5. Pearson International GCSE runs single-tier papers in most subjects.

The cheapest effective IGCSE support is front-loaded and narrow: one subject, one weekly hour from the start of Year 10, stopped once the subject is stable. The most expensive pattern is the one most families end up with, which is three subjects bought in the February of Year 11 at crisis rates, when only technique is still movable.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, each with an internal assessment the student designs outside lesson time, plus the 4,000-word Extended Essay, the 1,600-word Theory of Knowledge essay and CAS, inside a total of 45 points.

Diploma spending is cheapest when it is spent on scoping rather than rescue. Two sessions in the autumn of DP1 that test whether an internal assessment question can actually be answered cost a fraction of the block needed in the spring when the question has failed. This is the single clearest example of order mattering more than rate.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria each, marked out of eight and reported from 1 to 7. The programme rewards investigation and reflection and does not drill procedure, so fluency gaps can sit underneath respectable grades for years.

For a household watching every dirham, MYP is usually the wrong place to spend. Criterion grades are not predictive of timed-paper performance, and a weak MYP report rarely justifies paid support on its own. One timed diagnostic will tell you whether there is a real fluency problem, and that is often the whole purchase.

A LEVELAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

International A Level

Three or four subjects in depth, examined in a June or November series, with little coursework in the sciences beyond a practical component. Fewer subjects means fewer places to spend, and a sharper consequence when one of them goes wrong.

With only three or four subjects, a single weak one has a disproportionate effect on a university offer, which changes the spending logic. Concentrating a limited budget on the subject carrying the offer condition is almost always better than spreading it, and that is a decision best taken with the offer letter in front of you.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The list below is ordered by how often families here ask, with a note on where the marks actually go, because that is what decides whether a cheap hour or an expensive one is the right purchase.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580 / Pearson 4MA1)

Core, Extended or single tier

The most requested subject at every price point. The highest-value cheap purchase in the whole market is a tier review in Year 10, because Core caps the grade at C or 5 while Extended reaches 9, and a mistimed entry decision cannot be undone close to the series.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Calculus, proof and notation discipline carry the grade, and marks go on unjustified steps. The exploration is marked out of 20 across five criteria with the largest allocation on use of mathematics, so scoping it properly early is cheaper than rescuing it late.

Physics

IGCSE and IB HL/SL

Electricity and waves dominate IGCSE losses; fields and thermodynamics at Diploma level. Method detail on the practical paper is the kind of thing a specialist fixes in two sessions and a generalist never notices, which is where the rate difference earns itself.

Chemistry

IGCSE and IB HL/SL

Moles, electrolysis and qualitative analysis at IGCSE; energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms at HL. Observation answers need colour and state together. Unit and significant-figure errors cost about a mark a paper and are the cheapest thing on this list to repair.

Biology

IGCSE and IB HL/SL

A large content base rather than a difficult one, so frequency beats length and a shorter cheaper session can genuinely work. Command terms decide the marks: outline wants a list, explain wants a causal chain, and the fix is drilling rather than teaching.

English First Language and English as a Second Language

0500, 0510 and 0511

The best value on the whole list for a tight budget. Summary questions are mark-dense and routinely thrown away, and directed writing rewards register. Four marked sessions usually move both, after which the student can self-correct.

Business Studies and Economics

IGCSE 0450 and 0455, IB HL/SL

Case-study marks go to candidates who use the figures inside their argument. At Diploma level, Economics needs three commentaries of 800 words built on news articles, and the article choice sets the ceiling, which makes early scoping the cheap intervention.

Accounting

IGCSE

Offered at several schools serving this part of Dubai. Marks go to layout discipline and consistent treatment rather than arithmetic, which makes it unusually responsive to short, cheap, repetitive practice with feedback.

Computer Science

IGCSE and IB HL/SL

Pseudocode precision and system fundamentals carry the written papers. The solution development component needs a genuine client and documented consultation, and it is one of the thinnest components to staff, so it is rarely available at the cheap end at all.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements, priced differently and suited to different problems. All of them run one-to-one over live video, with no travel component in the fee.

The single diagnostic block

Two or three sessions, no more, built around marked scripts. The purpose is to find out what is actually wrong before any money is committed to a term. For a household with a hard ceiling this is the right first purchase almost every time, because it frequently shows that the problem is narrower and cheaper than feared.

  • Two or three sessions with a defined end, not a rolling arrangement
  • Works from the student's own marked papers rather than a fresh test
  • Ends with a written statement of the three repeated errors
  • Often concludes that no further paid support is needed

One protected weekly hour

A single subject, one fixed hour, continuing until the subject is stable and then stopped. The discipline is in stopping. Families who treat tutoring as a subscription spend several times what families who treat it as a repair spend, for the same outcome, and this district cannot afford the first pattern.

  • One subject chosen from marked evidence, not from impression
  • Reviewed against the school's own assessment at each half-term
  • Stopped deliberately once the subject holds, not continued by default
  • Paused during school exam weeks rather than stacked on top of them

Pre-series technique block

Six to ten sessions in the weeks before mocks or a final series, aimed entirely at pacing, command terms and marked-script analysis. No new content. This is the highest mark-per-dirham purchase available to a student who already knows the material and keeps losing marks, which describes most Year 11 students.

  • Timed sections marked against the published scheme
  • Command-term drilling on the exact paper the student sits
  • Finishes with a ranked list of what is left worth revising
  • Can compress into a holiday week when the series is close

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in Muhaisnah

Tutors cover Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE and the IB Diploma at both levels. The match is made against the component a student is losing marks on, because the difference between a cheap hour and an expensive one is almost entirely what the tutor can diagnose rather than what they can explain.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Muhaisnah

01

What a tutor costs in this market, with every figure attributed

Direct answer: market rates in Dubai run from roughly AED 45 an hour at the budget online end to AED 650 at the premium named end, with a qualified subject tutor online at AED 150 to 300 and an IB or IGCSE specialist at AED 200 to 450 and above. Those are market figures from the providers named in the table, not an IB Gram price list, and they were read from published pages rather than estimated.

The table matters more than the sentence, because the useful question is not what the market charges but what each band buys. At the bottom rung a tutor supervises homework and revises content from a textbook. That is a legitimate purchase for a Year 8 student who has stopped working, and a poor one for a Year 11 student losing marks to command terms. At the specialist rung a tutor reads a marked script and names the three repeated errors inside twenty minutes, which is a different service wearing the same word.

Format shifts the number more than seniority does at the lower end. Published in-home bands run from AED 180 to 500 an hour, against AED 150 to 300 for a comparable tutor online, and the difference is predominantly travel. A family in Muhaisnah paying the in-home premium for a tutor driving from Barsha or Mirdif through the late afternoon is paying for a car journey, and for the risk that the journey fails.

Monthly shapes are published too, and they are how a household should actually budget. Around AED 799 a month buys eight online sessions in this market. Four two-hour in-home visits are quoted at roughly AED 1,599 to 1,799. Bestimate's 2026 estimates for a single weekly hour are AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Measure any quote, including ours, against those bands.

02

The order to spend in, which nobody publishes

Given a fixed monthly figure, the sequence of purchases matters more than the rate negotiated on any one of them. This is the part of the market with no published guidance at all, and it is where most money is wasted. The table below ranks interventions by what they move per dirham, based on what the mark scheme actually rewards rather than on what is easy to sell.

At the top of the ranking sits the cheapest thing on the list: a tier or entry review. A Cambridge Core entry caps the grade at C or 5, and a student placed in Core in Year 10 after a weak start and never reviewed carries that ceiling into the final series however much they improve. One conversation with the department, prompted by one session of evidence, can be worth more than a term of teaching, and the deadline for changing an entry sits months before the paper.

Next is marked-script analysis, because it is diagnostic and cheap. Most students who are losing marks are not losing knowledge marks. They are losing command-term marks, precision marks and pacing marks, and all three are visible on one paper to someone who knows the scheme. Two sessions here routinely redirect a family away from a purchase they were about to make for the wrong reason.

At the bottom of the ranking sits the thing most often bought first: a long-running general subject arrangement with no defined endpoint, for a student whose content knowledge was never the problem. It is comfortable, it feels responsible, and it changes very little. A household in this district should buy it last if at all, and should expect any honest tutor to say so.

03

Is the person teaching your child legally permitted to do it?

This question sits underneath every cheap quote in this market and almost nobody asks it. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's own service page, Issuance of a New Work Permit for Private Tutor Licensing, lists a two-working-day completion time with the application made through its smart app, website and e-services system.

Eligibility is broader than parents assume. It includes teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. So a university student charging AED 60 an hour can be entirely lawful. The question is not whether their category is allowed but whether they actually hold the permit, and since it is free, failure to hold one is a choice rather than a cost.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, which is why any page quoting a figure is guessing; a number circulating in this market could not be verified against a ministry source and is left out here deliberately. What is verifiable is the obligation.

A separate rule applies to anyone with premises. A tutoring operation with a centre and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, which involves initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. That is a licence for premises, and nothing else. IB Gram holds no KHDA permit and claims none, which is the correct position for an online matching service and one that several pages in this market obscure.

04

Group class, tuition centre, or one-to-one

For a household with a ceiling, this is the live decision and the answer depends on what is wrong rather than on what is cheapest per hour. A group class is genuinely good value when every student in the room is preparing for the same paper and the content is being revised rather than repaired. It is poor value the moment a student's problem is specific, because the pace belongs to the group and a specific gap cannot be addressed without holding everyone else up.

A tuition centre adds structure, which for some students is the actual product. A fixed time, a fixed place, other students working, and a parent who does not have to enforce anything. If a child's problem is that homework does not happen, that structure may be worth more than a better-matched tutor. It also adds a second journey to the day, which in this corridor is not free in time even when it is modest in money.

One-to-one costs most per hour and the least per unit of progress when the problem is diagnosable. The reason is simple: every minute is spent on this student's errors. Where a student is losing eight marks a paper to command terms, a specialist can fix that in a handful of sessions and nothing in a group class will touch it, because the class is not about that student.

The honest summary for Muhaisnah is a sequence rather than a choice. Start with two one-to-one diagnostic sessions to find out what is wrong. If the answer is broad content revision for a whole paper, a group class or a centre may serve well and cost less. If the answer is a specific recurring error or a coursework problem, the group option will not reach it at any price.

The extras that turn a quoted rate into a bigger number

  • Ask whether the rate is per hour or per lesson, and how long the lesson is
  • Ask about minimum commitment before agreeing to a trial
  • Ask what happens when a school event moves a session at short notice
  • Ask in writing whether the quoted figure includes tax
  • Expect board materials to be linked, never sold to you

A quoted hourly rate is not a price. Parents in this market are routinely surprised by four things after the first invoice, and all four are answerable before any money moves. Asking about them is not rude; a provider who will not answer them in writing has given you your answer.

The first is the unit. A rate quoted per hour and a rate quoted per lesson are different numbers if the lesson runs seventy-five or ninety minutes, and that distinction is frequently left vague. The second is minimum commitment: some providers quote per hour and then require a block of ten, which turns a trial into a purchase. The third is cancellation, specifically how much notice is needed and what happens when the school moves an event at two days' notice, which in Dubai it will.

The fourth is tax. Whether a quoted figure includes VAT should be stated on the quote. This page does not state the VAT treatment of tuition fees in the UAE, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority citation and we are not publishing one. What a family can and should do is ask any provider whether the number they were given is inclusive, and ask for the answer in writing alongside a tax registration number if one is claimed.

There is a fifth item specific to materials. Nobody should be selling you syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables. Those belong to the examination boards and should be referenced and linked rather than supplied, and a provider offering a bundle of them is offering something they are not entitled to distribute. Official timetables and specifications are published free by Cambridge and Pearson, and that is where they should come from.

06

How many sessions does a grade actually take?

  • Technique: four to six sessions, visible on the next school assessment
  • Content gap: two to three sessions per defined block of specification
  • Fluency rebuild: a term or more, and worth planning rather than buying monthly
  • Motivation or workload: often a school conversation, not a paid hour

No honest answer to this is a single number, and any provider offering one is guessing. What can be said is which kinds of problem are short and which are long, and that distinction is far more useful to a family with a ceiling than an average would be.

Technique problems are short. A student who knows the material and loses marks to command terms, precision or pacing is usually a four-to-six-session job, and the change tends to be visible on the next school assessment because nothing new had to be learned. This is the best value in the market and it is the purchase families are least likely to make unprompted, because it does not feel like enough.

Content gaps are medium. A fortnight missed, a topic taught badly, a module that never landed: these are defined blocks of specification, and a specialist can establish exactly which points are missing from the scheme of work and close them in two or three sessions each. The cost is predictable because the scope is.

Structural problems are long and sometimes are not tutoring problems at all. A student two years behind in algebraic fluency will not be fixed in a term, and a student who is not doing any independent work will not be fixed by adding an hour of supervised work. In the second case the honest recommendation is often a conversation with the school rather than a purchase, and a tutor who will not say that is not worth the rate.

07

Who lives in Muhaisnah, and how that shapes school choice

Muhaisnah covers a wide span. Muhaisnah 1 and 2 hold villa and townhouse plots with settled family households, including the Lulu Village area. Muhaisnah 3 is apartment-dominated with larger households. Muhaisnah 4 is predominantly labour accommodation rather than family housing. Treating this as one market would be misleading, and the schools families use reflect the span rather than a single catchment.

The nearest schools sit west in Al Qusais and north-east in Al Nahda, running British and Indian curricula with IGCSE at sixteen in the British stream. South along the main corridor, Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City hold British and IB provision at higher fee levels. South-east, Mirdif and Al Warqa add IB continuum options. A family's school choice here is usually a fee decision before it is a curriculum decision, and that has consequences for what is left over for tutoring.

Dubai's market context is worth knowing when weighing those choices. The emirate had 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25 offering seventeen curricula, with the UK curriculum at 37 per cent of enrolment, Indian at 26, US at 14 and the IB at 7. For 2026-27 KHDA confirmed no increase in private school fees, and seven new schools are opening, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places.

For a household that has stretched to pay fees at a Mirdif or Silicon Oasis school, the most useful thing this page can offer is permission to spend small and deliberately on tutoring rather than feeling obliged to match the school's price level. Two diagnostic sessions and a six-session technique block is a serious intervention. It is also a fraction of a term of open-ended support, and for most students it does more.

08

What the cheap end can do, and what it cannot

  • The cheap end genuinely covers supervision and content revision
  • Diagnosis and mark-scheme technique are what the specialist band sells
  • Buy specialist time in small quantities rather than not at all
  • Any offer to produce coursework is disqualifying at any price

A low rate is not automatically poor value, and saying so is more honest than the usual pitch. At AED 45 to 150 an hour this market offers homework supervision, textbook revision and worked question practice, often from a capable university student. For a Year 8 or Year 9 student who has simply stopped doing the work, that is sufficient and buying more would be waste.

What the cheap end reliably cannot do is diagnose. Reading a marked script and identifying that a student is losing eight marks a paper because 'explain' is being answered as 'describe' requires knowing the mark scheme from the marking side. Judging whether an internal assessment research question will survive contact with a school laboratory requires having seen several fail. Those are the two services the specialist band is actually selling, and the gap between the bands is almost entirely this.

There is also a boundary question that becomes sharper at the cheap end, because the pressure to be helpful is higher. Anyone offering to produce coursework, to supply a finished internal assessment or to redraft an Extended Essay to completion is offering academic malpractice, and the consequence falls on the student: a withdrawn grade, potentially a withdrawn diploma, a problem on a university application. Operators in this market sell completed internal assessments at four-figure dirham prices. A parent should treat any offer in that direction as disqualifying regardless of price.

The practical rule is to match the rung to the problem. Supervision and revision at the bottom. Content teaching in the middle. Diagnosis, technique and coursework scoping at the top, bought in small quantities. A household that does this spends less and gets more than one that picks a rate and hopes it covers everything.

09

Starting small, and what we will tell you

  • Start with two diagnostic sessions, not a term
  • We will say when tutoring is the wrong purchase
  • Narrow components get a date, not a vague promise
  • Our quote follows a trial and can be measured against the bands above

The first purchase we would recommend to most households here is two sessions, not a term. Send the subject, the level, the board from the statement of entry and a marked script. The first session reads the script and the second tests whether the diagnosis holds. At the end you get a written statement of what is wrong and an estimate of how many sessions it takes, and a reasonable proportion of families stop there because the answer was narrower than they feared.

If the honest answer is that tutoring is not the right purchase, that is what should be said. A student not doing any independent work needs a different intervention, and an hour of paid supervision each week is an expensive way to postpone that conversation. We would rather lose the sale than take a monthly payment from a household in this district for something we do not think will work.

On availability, the limits are real. Evening hours between 17:00 and 19:00 Gulf time are the most requested across the whole network and they run out in mock season. Computer Science solution development, Further Mathematics and Arabic as a first language at Diploma level are thin, and for those we give a dated alternative rather than a reassurance. No competing page in this market acknowledges a coverage limit at all, which is informative.

On price, our own figure depends on subject, level and frequency, and it comes after a trial session rather than before. What this page commits to is that every market figure on it is attributed and checkable, and that any quote you receive from us can be measured against the same bands. A provider who publishes the market honestly is harder to overcharge with, which is the point.

Where we tutor

Muhaisnah and the districts around it

These notes cover what each part of this area contributes to the school and tutoring picture, including the parts a brochure would leave out.

Muhaisnah 1 and 2

Villa and townhouse plots, including the Lulu Village area, with settled family households and the most consistent demand for exam-year support in the district. Students here generally have a workable study space and can hold an early evening slot.

Muhaisnah 3

Apartment blocks and mixed development towards the Al Qusais side, with larger households and tighter budgets. Requests from here are usually for one subject rather than a programme, which is often the correct decision rather than a compromise.

Muhaisnah 4

Predominantly labour accommodation rather than family housing, so school-age demand is low and what arrives tends to be for a single child in a terminal examination year, where concentrating the spend matters most.

Al Qusais

West along Damascus Street, with the closest cluster of private schools and the shortest afternoon return in this part of the city. Students at school in Al Qusais can hold a 17:30 slot, which few others in the area can.

Al Nahda

North-east against the Sharjah boundary, with heavy cross-border traffic from mid-afternoon. Families who crossed the line into Muhaisnah often keep the same school, so the journey stays part of the budget in time if not in money.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

South-east, holding IB continuum provision and several of the larger British and Indian schools. Fees here sit higher, and families who have stretched for the school are the ones most likely to need an honest conversation about tutoring spend.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

South along the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed corridor, with British and IB provision and a longer but more predictable run. A fixed 18:30 slot holds well for students travelling this direction.

International City and Warsan

South-west, dense and affordable, with a similar demand profile to Muhaisnah 3. Group classes are more common here than one-to-one, and the trade-off between the two is worth understanding before buying either.

  • Dubai Scholars Private School, Al Qusais
  • Apple International School, Al Qusais
  • Al Diyafah High School, Al Nahda
  • The Westminster School, Dubai

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

South of Muhaisnah along the main corridor, with British and IB provision and a predictable if longer journey. Families choosing this direction usually do so for a specific programme rather than for convenience.

  • GEMS Wellington Academy, Dubai Silicon Oasis
  • Dubai English Speaking College, Academic City
  • The Indian Academy, Dubai Silicon Oasis
  • GEMS FirstPoint School, The Villa

Mirdif and Al Warqa

South-east, with IB continuum provision and large British and Indian schools. Fee levels here are higher, which is exactly why a family's remaining tutoring budget needs spending in the right order rather than spread thin.

  • Uptown International School, Mirdif
  • Star International School, Mirdif
  • GEMS Our Own English High School, Al Warqa

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send a marked script with the first message

Subject, level, the board code from the statement of entry, and one marked paper or report. Without evidence the only honest recommendation is a general one, and general recommendations are what cost families the most money in this market.

  2. 02

Buy two sessions, not a term

The first session reads the script with the student. The second tests whether the diagnosis holds against a fresh question set. At the end you have a written list of the repeated errors and an estimate of the work, and you decide from evidence instead of a sales conversation.

  3. 03

Check the entry and the tier

Before anything else is bought, we look at whether the student is entered in a tier that caps the grade below what they could reach. Changing a Cambridge Core entry to Extended in time is the cheapest grade movement available, and the deadline sits months before the paper.

  4. 04

    Agree the endpoint in advance

Every arrangement gets a stopping condition: a school assessment result, a number of sessions, or a specific component completed. Tutoring without an endpoint becomes a subscription, and subscriptions are how a reasonable rate turns into an unreasonable total.

  5. 05

Review against the school's marks, then stop or switch

Progress is judged on the school's own assessments. If the subject holds, we say so and the hour stops rather than continuing out of habit. If it has not moved, the tutor changes or the scope narrows, and we say which we think it is.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The numbers are published and attributed

Every AED band on this page carries the name of the provider or the research that published it. Three of the strongest pages competing for these searches publish no price at all, and one asks the price in its own FAQ and declines to answer. A figure you can check is worth more than a claim.

Spending is ranked, not bundled

A tier review, two diagnostic sessions and a technique block are cheap and move grades. Open-ended general tuition across several subjects is expensive and often moves little. We publish that ranking even though the second pattern is the more profitable one to sell.

The permit position is stated with its source

The private tuition work permit comes from Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is free, lasts two years and takes two working days. We publish who may hold one and how to verify it, and we state plainly that IB Gram holds no KHDA permit or accreditation.

No travel inside the fee

Published in-home rates run above online rates for a comparable tutor, and the difference is substantially a car journey through the slowest hours of the Dubai afternoon. Online delivery removes that cost, which for a budget-conscious household is the largest avoidable item in the whole market.

We will tell you not to buy

Where the evidence says the problem is motivation, workload or a school issue rather than a teaching gap, the honest recommendation is a conversation with the school. Taking a monthly payment for something unlikely to work is the quickest way to deserve the reputation this market has.

Coursework support stays inside the rules

Internal assessment and Extended Essay work is content teaching, question scoping and written feedback on the student's own draft, documented so the school can see its scope. Operators here sell completed coursework at four-figure prices, and the penalty for that lands on the student.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Muhaisnah: your questions answered

How much should a family in Muhaisnah expect to pay for a tutor?+

The published market in Dubai runs from about AED 45 an hour at the university-student end to AED 650 at the premium named end. EdFlik publishes from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 at the budget end; Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200; TutorChase publishes AED 270; Bestimate's 2026 table puts the specialist band at AED 200 to 450 and above, and BartyED publishes AED 650. In-home visits are quoted at AED 180 to 500 because travel sits inside the fee. Those are the providers' own figures, not an IB Gram price list, and any quote you receive should be measurable against them.

Is the cheapest tutor ever the right choice for a Muhaisnah household?+

Sometimes, and it depends entirely on the problem. At AED 45 to 150 an hour this market supplies homework supervision, textbook revision and worked question practice, often from a capable university student. For a Year 8 or Year 9 student who has simply stopped doing the work, that is sufficient and paying more is waste. What the cheap end reliably cannot do is read a marked script and name the three recurring errors costing marks, or judge whether an internal assessment question will survive. Match the rung to the problem rather than picking a rate and hoping it covers everything.

If we can only afford one thing, what should we buy first?+

A tier or entry review, if your child sits Cambridge subjects, followed by two sessions of marked-script diagnosis. The review costs almost nothing and can remove a grade ceiling entirely, since a Core entry caps the grade at C or 5 while Extended reaches 9. The diagnosis costs two hours and frequently redirects a family away from a purchase they were about to make for the wrong reason, because most students losing marks are losing command-term, precision and pacing marks rather than knowledge marks. Both are cheap, both are evidence-based, and most families buy neither.

Should a quoted tutoring rate in Muhaisnah include VAT, and how do we check?+

Ask the provider directly and ask for the answer in writing, along with a tax registration number if one is claimed. This page does not state the VAT treatment of tuition fees in the UAE, because doing so responsibly needs a Federal Tax Authority citation and we are not publishing one. What you can insist on is clarity on the quote itself: whether the figure you were given is inclusive or exclusive. A provider who will not put that in writing before you commit has told you something about how the rest of the arrangement will run.

Is a tutoring rate in this market quoted per hour or per session?+

Both are used, and the difference matters because a session may run sixty, seventy-five or ninety minutes. Ask which unit the number refers to and how long the session is, then convert to a per-hour figure yourself before comparing providers. Ask two further questions at the same time: whether there is a minimum commitment, because some providers quote per hour and then require a block of ten, and what notice is needed to move a session. Dubai school calendars shift events at short notice, so a rigid cancellation rule will cost you real money across a term.

How many sessions before we see a change in marks?+

It depends on the kind of problem, and any single number is a guess. Technique problems, where the student knows the material and loses marks to command terms, precision or pacing, are typically a four-to-six-session job and the change usually shows on the next school assessment because nothing new had to be learned. A defined content gap is two or three sessions per block of specification. A fluency rebuild, where a student is genuinely years behind, takes a term or more and should be planned rather than bought monthly. Motivation problems are often not tutoring problems at all.

Are group classes better value than one-to-one for us?+

They are when every student in the room is preparing for the same paper and the work is revision rather than repair. They are poor value the moment the problem is specific, because the pace belongs to the group and an individual gap cannot be addressed without holding everyone else up. A tuition centre adds structure, which for a student who will not self-start may be the actual product worth buying, at the cost of a second journey. The sensible sequence is two one-to-one diagnostic sessions first, then a group option if the answer turns out to be broad revision.

How do I check whether a tutor is legally allowed to teach in the UAE?+

Ask to see the MoHRE private tuition work permit. It was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE lists a two-working-day completion time through its own app and e-services. Eligible holders include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring without it is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. Because it costs nothing, a tutor who has not obtained one has made a choice rather than a saving.

What extras catch Muhaisnah parents out after the first invoice?+

Four things, all answerable in advance. The unit, because a rate per lesson is not a rate per hour if the lesson runs ninety minutes. The minimum commitment, because some providers quote hourly and then require a block. The cancellation rule, which matters because Dubai schools move events at short notice. And tax, which should be stated on the quote. A fifth is materials: nobody should be selling you past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables, because those belong to the examination boards and are published free by Cambridge and Pearson.

Do tutoring rates in Muhaisnah rise as the exam series gets closer?+

Availability tightens sharply and that has the same effect as a price rise even where the published rate does not move. Evening hours between 17:00 and 19:00 Gulf time are the most requested in the network, and in January and March they genuinely run out, so a family booking late is choosing from what is left rather than from what they wanted. The practical consequence is to book a mock-season block when the school publishes its mock dates rather than when the mocks arrive. The cheapest exam-year support is the support arranged before everybody else needs it.

Can one tutor cover three subjects to keep the cost down?+

For general homework supervision, sometimes. For anything mark-scheme specific, no, and the saving is false. A tutor who teaches Cambridge 0580 mathematics well is not the person who knows where marks go on 0620 Chemistry observation questions or what an Economics commentary needs from its article. The better way to control cost is to narrow the scope rather than widen the tutor: one subject taught properly with an endpoint, rather than three subjects covered thinly for the same money. Concentrating the spend reliably produces more than spreading it.

What happens if we decide to stop after the diagnostic sessions?+

Nothing, and for a sizeable share of families that is the right outcome. The point of a two-session diagnostic is to find out what is actually wrong before a term is committed, and sometimes the answer is that the student needs a specific habit changed rather than ongoing teaching. You should leave with a written statement of the repeated errors and an estimate of the work, which is useful to you whether or not you buy anything further. Any arrangement that makes stopping awkward was designed to make stopping awkward.

Which subjects cost the most to support, and why?+

Cost tracks scarcity rather than difficulty. Computer Science solution development, Further Mathematics, Arabic as a first language at Diploma level and Higher Level Economics commentaries during a shared deadline week are the thinnest to staff, so they sit at the top of the market and are rarely available at the cheap end at all. Mainstream IGCSE mathematics and the three sciences are the deepest pools and the most competitively priced. If your child needs a scarce component, book earlier rather than negotiating harder, because the constraint is people rather than price.

Can a university student or a school student legally tutor my child here?+

Yes, if they hold the permit. The private tuition work permit explicitly lists unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18 among eligible applicants, alongside registered school teachers and government and private-sector employees. It is free and valid for two years. Legality and suitability are separate questions, though. A capable university student can supervise homework and revise content well. Judging whether an internal assessment research question will survive, or reading a marked script against the scheme, is a different skill, and that is what the higher bands in this market are actually selling.

Buy two sessions and a diagnosis

Send the subject, the level, the board code from the statement of entry and one marked paper, and buy two sessions rather than a term. At the end you will have a written list of what is actually costing marks and an estimate of the work involved, and a fair number of families in this district stop there because the problem was narrower than they expected. If we think tutoring is the wrong purchase, we will say so. Lessons are one-to-one over live video, every market figure on this page is attributed, and our own quote comes after the trial rather than before it.
