IGCSE Science Tutor in Muhaisnah

An IGCSE science tutor in Muhaisnah is usually asked to cover three subjects at once, and that single decision is where most of the money in this catchment goes astray. This page works through it properly: what separate sciences cost against a double award, which syllabus codes your child is actually entered for, how practical skills are examined, and which topics genuinely need a specialist. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Costs compared across one, two and three sciences
  • Syllabus codes matched before any tutor is proposed
  • Live one-to-one video lessons, travel not priced in
  • Free trial lesson before any payment is taken

IB & IGCSE in Muhaisnah

The three-subject problem, and what it does to a budget

The request that arrives from this catchment most often reads something like: my child is in Year 11, struggling in science, can you help with all three. It is a completely reasonable thing to ask and it is also the most expensive way to buy IGCSE science support. Three subjects at a qualified online rate of AED 150 to 300 an hour works out at roughly AED 13,500 to 27,000 across a thirty-week year, and in practice it produces three thin efforts rather than one solid one, because the student has nine or ten other subjects and no spare evenings.

The first useful question is therefore not who to hire but what your child is actually entered for. A student taking Cambridge Coordinated Sciences, syllabus 0654, is sitting one double-award qualification that covers all three sciences at reduced depth. A student taking separate Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625 is sitting three qualifications. A student on Pearson's Science Double Award 4SD0 is on a third arrangement again. The content depth, the paper count and the realistic tutoring requirement differ substantially between them, and families are frequently unsure which applies.

The second question is which of the three sciences is actually costing the grade. In our experience of this catchment it is rarely all three equally. Physics is the most commonly requested and the most commonly genuinely weak, usually because of the algebra it assumes. Chemistry difficulty is often really a mole-arithmetic problem. Biology is often a command-term problem dressed as a content problem, which is the cheapest of the three to fix and the one families least often identify. A marked script answers this in minutes; a conversation almost never does.

The third is how practical skills are being examined, because this changes what the tutoring hour should contain. Cambridge offers both a practical test and an alternative-to-practical written paper, and most international centres use the written route. Pearson assesses practical knowledge inside the written papers. Either way the marks go to planning, variables, instrument reading, tabulation, graph work and evaluation, and all of those are paper skills that can be taught on a shared screen.

On delivery, plainly: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visiting is a service we run only in India, and the published Dubai market rate for in-home visits is roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included, which is the figure to compare against if that is the route you are considering. For a Muhaisnah family we match a subject specialist for one science at a time and teach one-to-one over live video, with a free trial lesson before anything is charged.

Nothing below is a promise about a grade. The papers are marked externally, the tier was set by the school, and the performance on the day belongs to the student. What a correctly matched tutor changes is the number of marks lost for reasons unconnected to understanding, and across three science papers that number is usually bigger than one subject's worth of content teaching could ever recover.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Science support in this catchment is bought at four distinct points, with very different cost profiles at each.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Key Stage 3 science

Integrated science with no external examination, which is where the quantitative foundations are either built or missed. Rearranging formulae, proportional reasoning, unit conversion and reading scales are the four that determine whether IGCSE physics and chemistry are accessible later.

Almost nobody in this catchment buys science support at this stage and it is the cheapest point to do it, at the lower end of every published band. A Year 8 student can also take a half past five session, which a Year 11 here generally cannot.

Y10Ages 14-15

Year 10 IGCSE science

The first examined year across either separate sciences or a double award, with tier placement being confirmed. The available work is foundational, which means one subject supported properly through the autumn and spring can change tier evidence as well as content.

The best-value science purchase available to a Muhaisnah family, and the least popular. One science, one weekly hour, two terms. It costs roughly a third of a three-subject Year 11 engagement and does more, because it is working on foundations rather than on triage.

Y11Ages 15-16

Year 11 IGCSE science

The examination year. Tiers are fixed, content largely delivered, and the available work is paper technique: practical-skills questions, command terms, timed calculation and graph work. Mock scripts in the autumn are the best diagnostic available and are routinely under-used.

Where most demand arrives and where three-subject requests originate. The honest advice is to pick the one science where the marked script shows the largest fixable gap, buy a bounded block, and let the school's revision programme carry the others.

ASAges 16-17 · Year 12

Transition into AS sciences

The step from IGCSE into AS or A Level sciences is largest in physics and chemistry, where the volume of independent practice roughly doubles and the mathematical demand rises sharply. Students who passed on the Core tier face the steepest version of this.

Families in this catchment often discover in the first term of Year 12 that an IGCSE science grade overstated readiness. Summer work on the quantitative skills, bought at the mid band rather than the specialist band, is cheaper than a term of rescue in October.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the science subjects and components Muhaisnah families name, with an honest note on which need a specialist and which do not.

Physics, separate award

Cambridge 0625 or Pearson 4PH1

The most commonly requested and most commonly genuinely weak of the three here. Electricity and waves do the most damage, and the underlying cause is frequently algebraic rather than physical. Needs a specialist if the gap is conceptual; needs a mathematics tutor if it is rearrangement.

Chemistry, separate award

Cambridge 0620 or Pearson 4CH1

Moles, electrolysis and organic families carry the paper. A student who can write equations and cannot explain a trend has a conceptual gap; a student who stalls on calculations has an arithmetic one. The two need different tutors and cost different amounts.

Biology, separate award

Cambridge 0610 or Pearson 4BI1

The cheapest of the three to improve and the least often identified correctly. Volume of content makes it feel manageable, but the marks sit in command-term precision and in reading unfamiliar methods, both of which respond within a handful of sessions.

Coordinated Sciences, double award

Cambridge 0654

All three sciences at reduced depth, awarded as a double qualification. Tutoring here is usually about identifying which of the three strands is weak rather than teaching all of them, because the depth is lower and the strands are examined together.

Combined Science, single award

Cambridge 0653

A single award covering all three sciences, with less content again. Families sometimes assume it is the same as Coordinated Sciences and it is not: the award size and the depth both differ, which affects both university routes and tutoring need.

Science Double Award

Pearson 4SD0

Pearson's double-award route covering all three sciences. Paper structure and the way practical knowledge is examined both differ from the Cambridge equivalent, so a tutor familiar with 0654 is not automatically useful here.

Practical skills on paper

All routes

Planning an investigation, identifying variables, reading instruments, tabulating, plotting, interpreting and evaluating. Examined either in an alternative-to-practical paper, a practical test, or inside the written papers. Among the most efficient marks to target and entirely teachable remotely.

Command-term discipline

All three sciences

Describe, explain, suggest, state and compare each want a different answer. The single cheapest set of marks available across science, and the one most students are losing without knowing it, because the content was right and the answer shape was not.

Graph and data handling

All routes

Scale choice, plotting accuracy, line of best fit, gradient meaning and anomaly identification. A shared screen is a better teaching surface for this than an exercise book, because the tutor annotates the student's actual graph while they watch.

Quantitative skills across science

Underpins physics and chemistry

Rearrangement, proportional reasoning, unit conversion, standard form and significant figures. A student weak here will look weak at two sciences simultaneously, and the fix is one piece of work rather than two subject blocks.

Required practical knowledge

Pearson routes in particular

Specific procedures students are expected to know and describe. Learned from the specification rather than discovered at a bench, which makes it readily teachable online and a reliable source of marks in the final weeks.

Core and Extended tier content

Cambridge tiered sciences

Extended candidates sit additional content and harder question styles with a higher grade ceiling. Knowing which tier each science is entered at matters, because a student can be on different tiers in different sciences within one school.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy IGCSE science support, priced differently and suited to different diagnoses. All run live one-to-one over video.

One science, one weekly hour

The cheapest configuration that reliably moves a grade. One subject matched to its syllabus code, one specialist, a fixed weekly slot, with questions set from the board's published papers and marked before the next session. Reviewed at session six against a marked script.

  • Matched to the code and tier, not to "science"
  • Board past papers used, linked rather than sold
  • Work set and marked between sessions
  • Reviewed on a marked script, not on impressions

Cross-science skills block

Four to six sessions on the skills that earn marks in all three sciences at once: command terms, practical-skills questions, tabulation and graph work, and quantitative technique. Cheaper than any single-subject block and often produces movement across every science paper simultaneously.

  • One block, marks recovered in all three papers
  • Practical-skills questions drilled on past papers
  • Graphs annotated live on the student's own work
  • Quantitative skills fixed once rather than twice

Mock diagnostic across three sciences

Three sessions reading the student's own mock scripts in all three sciences, ending with a written view of which subject is genuinely weak, which is a technique problem and which the school's revision programme will carry. Usually concludes that one subject, not three, should be bought.

  • Reads all three mock scripts, not a description
  • Separates content gaps from technique losses
  • Ends in a written recommendation, not a pitch
  • Frequently recommends buying less than requested

01

Separate sciences, Coordinated Sciences or a double award: what each costs to support

Begin here, because the answer changes the budget by a factor of three. Separate sciences means three qualifications, each with its own full content, its own papers and its own revision requirement. Cambridge Coordinated Sciences, 0654, is a double award covering all three at reduced depth in a shared set of papers. Cambridge Combined Science, 0653, is a single award with less content again. Pearson's Science Double Award, 4SD0, is a different double-award arrangement with its own paper structure.

Families often do not know which applies, and schools do not always make the distinction clear in reports. It is worth one email to the exams officer, because the tutoring implication is direct: a double-award student usually needs help identifying which of the three strands is weak, at reduced depth, and can be served by one tutor across a bounded block. A separate-sciences student with a genuine gap in physics needs a physics specialist, and if they also have a gap in chemistry that is a second engagement rather than an extension of the first.

The table below sets out the routes with what each involves and a realistic annual cost at published qualified rates. Read the final column as the planning instruction: for a double award, one tutor and a diagnosis is usually sufficient, and for separate sciences the question is which single subject to buy rather than whether to buy all three.

One further note on grades and progression. Award size matters for later routes: a single-award qualification is not equivalent to two separate science grades, and families planning towards AS sciences should check what the sixth form requires before assuming a double or single award suffices. That is a conversation with the school rather than with a tutor, and it is free.

02

The codes, and why a science tutor must be matched to one

Ask the exams officer for the syllabus codes in writing, for each science separately, because a student can be on different boards for different sciences within the same school. That sounds unlikely and it is common: Cambridge sciences with Pearson mathematics is the usual split in this catchment, but Pearson sciences with Cambridge everything else happens too.

The table gives the codes you are most likely to be told, with the paper structure in outline and the practical route. Take the code to any tutor you are considering and ask them to describe its papers and how practical skills are examined on it. A specialist answers in under a minute. Someone who says the sciences are broadly the same across boards is describing the content, which is largely true, and ignoring the papers, which is where the final weeks of preparation live.

Two distinctions catch families out specifically. Cambridge separate sciences offer both a practical test and an alternative-to-practical written paper, and the school chooses; which one your child sits changes what the tutoring should contain. And Cambridge offers 9-1 graded versions of its sciences alongside the letter-graded ones, which are the same content reported differently, so a report showing a numeral rather than a letter is not evidence of a different syllabus.

Confirm paper numbers, durations and practical arrangements against the board's published syllabus for your child's cohort rather than against any tutoring page, including this one, because syllabuses are reissued. What does not change is the matching principle: one subject, one code, one tutor who teaches it habitually.

Practical skills: examined on paper, teachable on a screen

The reasonable objection to online science tutoring is laboratory work, and it deserves a precise answer rather than reassurance. Hands-on apparatus time belongs to the school, which has the equipment. What the boards assess, however, is practical knowledge and reasoning expressed in writing, and that is a different thing from manipulating a burette.

Cambridge separate sciences offer two routes: a practical test and an alternative-to-practical written paper, with most international centres using the written route. Pearson assesses practical knowledge inside the written papers rather than separately. In both cases the marks go to planning an investigation, identifying independent, dependent and control variables, choosing a sensible range and interval, reading instruments to an appropriate precision, tabulating with consistent units and significant figures, plotting with a sensible scale, drawing and using a line of best fit, identifying anomalies, and suggesting a specific improvement rather than a generic one.

Every item on that list is a paper skill, and several are taught considerably better remotely. Plotting is the clearest example: a tutor annotating the student's actual graph live, pointing at the scale choice that cost a mark, achieves in five minutes what a written comment in an exercise book achieves in a week. Identifying a dependent variable in an unfamiliar method is reading comprehension applied to science. Suggesting an improvement is a learnable formula rather than an inspiration.

The table sets out the two routes side by side so you can establish which your child is on and what the tutoring should therefore contain. Where the school uses a practical test, the focus shifts towards recording conventions and towards rehearsing method sequences so the student is not reading a procedure for the first time under pressure. Where the written alternative applies, the focus is squarely on the question types in that paper, which are highly patterned and therefore highly drillable.

Where science money is wasted in this catchment

  • Three sciences at once: triple cost, no spare evenings, three thin efforts
  • Content tutors bought to solve a cross-science technique problem
  • Specialist rates paid to fix rearrangement and unit conversion
  • Starting after the spring mocks: highest price, least to work with
  • A tutor matched to the subject rather than to the syllabus code

Five patterns, and the first dwarfs the others. Buying all three sciences at once. It triples the cost, consumes three of a Year 11 student's remaining evenings, and in practice yields three mediocre efforts because nobody has time to do the work between sessions. The student also has mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in a Dubai school, on top of nine or ten subjects, and there simply is not room.

Second, buying subject content when the loss is cross-science technique. If a student is losing marks on command terms, tabulation, graph scale and evaluation phrasing, those losses appear in all three papers and can be fixed in one short block. A family who buys three content tutors to solve a technique problem pays roughly ten times what the fix costs.

Third, paying specialist rates to repair quantitative skills. A student who cannot rearrange a formula or convert units will look weak in physics and chemistry simultaneously. That is one piece of Key Stage 4 mathematics, available at the mid band, and buying two science specialists to work around it is paying twice for a problem that is neither of theirs.

Fourth, starting after the spring mocks. By then the content window has shut, the better weekday slots are taken by school revision clinics, and only technique work remains, at the highest point of the demand curve. Fifth, buying a tutor who does not know the code. A Cambridge 0654 specialist teaching a Pearson 4SD0 candidate will cover correct science and prepare them for the wrong paper structure, and a material share of the final weeks is about paper structure.

05

Core and Extended across the sciences, and the mixed-tier surprise

Tiering in science works as it does in mathematics: the lower tier covers less content and caps the grade that can be awarded, while the higher tier covers additional material, asks harder question styles and opens the full range. What surprises families is that a student can be entered at different tiers in different sciences within the same school, and the report does not always make that obvious.

That matters for a budget in two ways. If the target grade in a subject sits above the ceiling of the tier your child is entered at, no amount of tutoring reaches it and the conversation belongs with the head of science rather than with a tutor. And if a student is Extended in biology and Core in physics, those are two different kinds of engagement, and treating them as one science problem will produce the wrong plan for both.

The decision belongs to the school, is based on evidence from the student's work, and is usually taken during Year 10. The sequence for a family who wants it reviewed is to ask the subject teacher what evidence would change the entry and by what date the decision must be made, then work on exactly that. A tutor promising to move a child up a tier without having seen a marked script is guessing, and in science the evidence the school looks at is usually quantitative accuracy and the ability to handle unstructured questions.

One honest word in the other direction. A secure Core grade is a better outcome than a struggling Extended one, and families who force Extended entries on borderline students in all three sciences simultaneously frequently end up with worse results across the board. The tier is a judgement about what a student can sustain across a full paper under time pressure, not a statement about their ability or their ambition.

06

Realistic monthly spend for one, two or three sciences

Published rates are per hour and households budget per month, so here is the translation. The figures use the published Dubai bands: budget online provision from roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour as published by two providers, qualified subject tutors at roughly AED 150 to 300, specialists at roughly AED 200 to 450 and above, and in-home visits at roughly AED 180 to 500 with travel included. Bestimate's own monthly estimates for a weekly hour are AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support.

The table converts configurations into monthly figures so the comparison is concrete. The row worth studying is the last one: a six-session cross-science skills block, bought once, costs a fraction of any monthly configuration and affects marks in all three papers. For a family with a genuine technique problem rather than a content problem, it is the highest-return purchase on this page by a wide margin.

The row to be wary of is three weekly hours. At the qualified band that is roughly AED 1,800 to 3,600 a month, which is a significant household commitment, and it is the configuration most likely to be abandoned by February because the student cannot sustain it alongside everything else. An abandoned engagement costs the same as a completed one for the months it ran.

Our own figure is agreed at the consultation once the codes, tiers and diagnosis are known. We sit in the qualified-specialist part of those bands rather than the budget part, the trial lesson is free, and nothing is charged before it. Where the mock scripts say one subject and a skills block will do, that is what we quote, which is a smaller sale than three weekly slots and is the recommendation we would want for our own children.

Which science topics actually need a specialist

  • Specialist: electricity and magnetism, moles conceptually, organic patterns, genetics reasoning
  • Mathematics tutor: rearrangement, units, standard form, significant figures, percentages
  • Any competent science teacher: command terms, tables, graphs, evaluation phrasing
  • Extended-tier multi-topic questions: specialist, because recognition is the skill
  • Apparatus familiarity: the school, not a tutor of any kind

Not all of them, and knowing the difference is how a family in this catchment buys well. Some topics need somebody who teaches that subject at that tier habitually. Others are quantitative problems that a good mathematics tutor fixes faster and cheaper. A third group is answer-shape work that any competent science teacher can drill. Spending specialist money on the second and third groups is the commonest avoidable overspend in science.

Needs a specialist: electricity and magnetism in physics, where the conceptual model matters and misconceptions are stubborn. Moles and electrolysis in chemistry where the gap is conceptual rather than arithmetic. Organic chemistry families and reaction patterns. Genetics and inheritance problems in biology, where the reasoning is formal and students pattern-match wrongly. And anything at the top of the Extended tier where questions combine topics without signalling which.

Does not need a specialist: rearranging formulae, unit conversion, standard form, significant figures and percentage calculations. All of those are mathematics, they underpin two sciences at once, and a mathematics tutor at the mid band resolves them faster than two science specialists working around them. If your child is losing marks on the arithmetic inside science questions rather than on the science, buy the mathematics.

Drillable by any competent science teacher: command terms, tabulation conventions, graph scale and fit, anomaly identification, evaluation phrasing and required practical knowledge. These are patterned, they repeat across papers and across subjects, and they are the marks a six-session cross-science block targets. They are also, in our experience of mock scripts from this catchment, where the largest share of recoverable marks sits.

08

Year 10 foundations or Year 11 triage: where the money works

Almost all the science demand in this catchment arrives in Year 11 and almost all the value sits in Year 10. The reason is structural. In Year 10 the tier is still movable, the content is being taught for the first time, quantitative foundations can be rebuilt without competing against revision, and the evening slots are uncontested. One science, one weekly hour, two terms: that is the configuration that changes outcomes, and it costs roughly a third of a three-subject Year 11 engagement.

Year 11 support is not pointless but it is a narrower product and should be bought as such. After the autumn mocks you have the best diagnostic the school will ever give you, free, in the form of three marked scripts. Read them, or have them read, and buy the one subject and the one skills block that the scripts justify. Bought that way, Year 11 science support is excellent value. Bought as three open-ended weekly slots in March, it is the most expensive thing on this page.

There is a third window families almost never use: the summer between Year 10 and Year 11. No competing homework, no fatigue from the school run, and the ability to rebuild rearrangement and unit work without also keeping up with a current unit. For a student whose physics and chemistry both look weak, that summer block is frequently the whole fix, because the common cause was quantitative and it was never two problems.

And if you are reading this in Year 9, the cheapest intervention in this entire page is available to you: a term of work on proportional reasoning, rearrangement, unit conversion and reading scales, at the lower end of the published bands, before any of it is attached to an examined grade. Families who do that generally never buy science tutoring again, which is a strange thing for a tutoring page to recommend and is nonetheless true.

09

Starting science support from Muhaisnah

Send four things. The syllabus codes and tiers for each science, from the exams officer rather than the student. The most recent mock or marked script for each subject. The school's weekly timetable, including which afternoons finish late. And the two evening slots you genuinely believe will survive until June.

If you have three mock scripts and no clear view, buy the three-session diagnostic rather than any hours. It ends with a written recommendation naming which subject is genuinely weak, which losses are cross-science technique, and which the school's revision programme will carry. It frequently recommends buying less than you asked for, which is the point of it.

Then buy one thing. One science as a weekly hour or a bounded block, or a cross-science skills block, with a stated target checkable on a marked paper. Good science targets are mechanical: tabulating and plotting without losing presentation marks, matching answer length to the command term, or suggesting a specific rather than generic improvement in an evaluation question.

Finally, the advice we would give regardless of whether you use us. If your child is in Year 10, buy the autumn and buy one subject. If they are in Year 11 with mocks done, read the scripts before you spend. If physics and chemistry both look weak, check the arithmetic before concluding you have two science problems. And if the target grade sits above a tier ceiling, go and see the head of science first, because that conversation is free and no tutor substitutes for it.

Where we tutor

Science provision and tutoring supply around Muhaisnah

These communities make up the catchment. Science tutoring supply here is plentiful and mostly aimed at a different curriculum, which is the problem to navigate.

Muhaisnah

No British-curriculum secondary provision inside the neighbourhood. Local tutoring supply is strong, inexpensive and predominantly Indian-curriculum science, which is useful for Key Stage 3 and not for IGCSE paper technique.

Al Qusais

The nearest school-dense district with a mixed board picture. Two schools a short distance apart can be using Cambridge separate sciences and Pearson double award respectively, which is exactly why code matching matters.

Mirdif

British and IB provision east of Muhaisnah, with several schools running Cambridge sciences alongside Pearson mathematics. The split catches generalist tutors out most often in science.

Al Warqa

Substantial Indian-curriculum provision and the lowest local science tutoring rates in this catchment. Good value for quantitative foundation work, insufficient for Extended-tier paper technique.

Al Garhoud

Older established schools and the shortest run from Muhaisnah, so earlier arrivals and a workable half past five slot. Useful for science specifically, where new content goes in better earlier.

Dubai Festival City

Both IGCSE and IB provision, with staggered pick-ups by year group. Plan the science slot around the later arrival if there is more than one child in the household.

Al Nahda

Longest afternoon journeys in the catchment. Science sessions from here work at half past seven, which suits reviewing marked work and practical-skills questions better than new content.

Al Mizhar

Villa district with very little local supply of any kind. For an Extended-tier student here, online matching is the only realistic route to a subject specialist rather than a generalist.

Nad Al Hamar

Short runs to Festival City and Rashidiya schools. One of the few parts of this cluster where an early-evening science session reliably holds across a term.

International City

Long journeys and a price-sensitive population. Saturday morning double sessions work well here and suit practical-skills and data-handling work particularly.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the codes and tiers for each science

From the exams officer in writing, subject by subject. A student can be Extended in one science and Core in another, and on different boards for different subjects within one school. Matching a tutor to "science" rather than to a code is the commonest waste here.

  2. 02

Send the mock scripts, all three

Three marked papers tell a specialist which subject is genuinely weak, which losses are cross-science technique, and which the school will carry. A description in words almost always points at content when the scripts point at answer shape.

  3. 03

Buy the diagnosis if the picture is unclear

Three sessions reading the scripts, ending in a written recommendation. It frequently concludes that one subject plus a short skills block is the right purchase rather than three weekly slots, which is a smaller sale and the honest answer.

  4. 04

Buy one thing, with a checkable target

One science as a block, or the cross-science skills block, with a target visible on a marked paper: complete tables and graphs, answer length matched to the command term, specific evaluation improvements. Then review it on the work.

  5. 05

Choose the hour from the timetable

Send the school's weekly schedule including late afternoons. In this catchment six o'clock and half past seven hold and half past four does not, and new science content goes in better earlier in the evening than later.

  6. 06

Stagger subjects rather than stacking them

If two sciences genuinely need work, run one per term rather than both at once. The student has no spare evenings and a stacked engagement is usually abandoned by February, having cost the same as one that finished.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We will tell you to buy one science, not three

Three weekly hours at the qualified band is roughly AED 1,800 to 3,600 a month and is the configuration most likely to collapse by February. One diagnosed subject plus a short skills block costs a fraction and usually moves more marks.

Matched to the code, including the practical route

Cambridge separate sciences, Coordinated Sciences 0654 and Pearson 4SD0 have different paper structures and different practical arrangements. A tutor is asked to describe your child's code and its practical route before the booking is confirmed.

Cross-science technique priced as one block

Command terms, tabulation, graph work and evaluation phrasing earn marks in all three papers, so we sell them once rather than three times. It is the highest-return purchase in science for most students in this catchment.

Honest about what is not a science problem

Rearrangement, unit conversion and significant figures underpin two sciences at once and are mathematics. We will send you to a mathematics tutor at the mid band rather than charge specialist rates to work around them.

Practical skills taught where they are actually assessed

Apparatus time belongs to the school. What the boards examine is planning, variables, instrument reading, tabulation, graph work and evaluation, all of which are paper skills and several of which are taught better on a shared screen.

No reproduced board material, no invented numbers

Past papers and specifications come from the board or the school, never sold as a pack. We publish no student statistics, no self-asserted ratings, and no claim of approval from Cambridge, Pearson, KHDA or the Ministry of Education.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Muhaisnah: your questions answered

Can one tutor cover all three IGCSE sciences for my child?+

For a double-award route such as Cambridge Coordinated Sciences 0654 or Pearson 4SD0, usually yes, because the depth is lower and the strands are examined together; the work is mostly identifying which strand is weak. For three separate sciences, a single tutor covering all three at Extended tier is a generalist, and the depth shows by the spring of Year 11. The better plan is one specialist for the one subject your mock scripts name, plus a short cross-science skills block that earns marks in all three papers at once.

What is the difference between Coordinated Sciences and Combined Science?+

Cambridge Coordinated Sciences, 0654, is a double award covering biology, chemistry and physics at reduced depth, reported as two grades. Cambridge Combined Science, 0653, is a single award with less content again, reported as one. They are frequently confused, and the distinction matters both for later routes, since a single award is not equivalent to two separate science grades, and for tutoring, since the content depth differs. Ask the exams officer which your child is entered for and check what your sixth form requires for AS sciences.

Which of the three sciences do students here struggle with most?+

Physics, consistently, in enquiries from this catchment, and the underlying cause is frequently algebraic rather than physical: a student who cannot rearrange confidently will look weak at physics regardless of how well they understand it. Chemistry difficulty is often really a mole-arithmetic problem. Biology is the one most often misdiagnosed: it feels manageable because the content is familiar, but the marks sit in command-term precision and in reading unfamiliar methods, which makes it the cheapest of the three to improve.

How are IGCSE science practicals assessed if we study online?+

On paper, in both main routes. Cambridge separate sciences offer a practical test and an alternative-to-practical written paper, with most international centres using the written route; Pearson assesses practical knowledge inside the written papers. The marks go to planning, variables, instrument reading, tabulation, plotting, interpretation and evaluation, all of which are written skills. Apparatus time belongs to the school, which has the equipment. Several of these skills are taught better on a shared screen, because a tutor can annotate your child's actual graph while they watch.

What does supporting all three sciences cost across a year?+

At the published qualified band of AED 150 to 300 an hour, three weekly hours across a thirty-week school year works out at roughly AED 13,500 to 27,000, or roughly AED 1,800 to 3,600 a month. At specialist rates it is higher. That configuration is also the one most likely to be abandoned by February, because a Year 11 student with nine or ten subjects plus mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies does not have three spare evenings. One diagnosed subject plus a skills block costs a fraction.

What is a cross-science skills block and why is it cheaper?+

Four to six sessions on the things that earn marks in all three science papers simultaneously: command terms, tabulation conventions, graph scale and fit, anomaly identification, evaluation phrasing and quantitative technique. Because those losses are not subject-specific, the block is bought once rather than three times, and at published qualified rates a six-session block is roughly AED 900 to 1,800 in total. For a student whose mock scripts show technique losses rather than content gaps, it is the highest-return purchase available.

My child is Extended in biology and Core in physics. Does that change anything?+

Yes, considerably, and families are often unaware it is even possible. Mixed tiering across sciences within one school is common. It means two different kinds of engagement: Extended work focuses on multi-topic questions and the harder question styles that only appear on that tier, while Core work focuses on securing the content within a capped grade range. Treating both as one science problem produces the wrong plan for each. Ask the exams officer to confirm the tier for every science separately, in writing.

Can tutoring move my child from Core to Extended in a science?+

Sometimes, but the decision belongs to the school and is usually taken during Year 10 on evidence from the student's work. Ask the subject teacher two questions: what evidence would change the entry, and by what date must the decision be made. Then work on exactly that, which in science is usually quantitative accuracy and the ability to handle unstructured questions. Be realistic about the trade: a secure Core grade is a better outcome than a struggling Extended one, and forcing the higher tier across all three sciences at once rarely ends well.

Is my child's science problem actually a maths problem?+

Frequently, and the distinction saves real money. Rearranging formulae, unit conversion, standard form, significant figures and percentage calculation underpin both physics and chemistry, so a student weak in those appears weak in two sciences at once. That is one piece of work, available from a mathematics tutor at the mid band, rather than two science specialists working around it. A specialist reading a marked script can tell you within minutes whether the science reasoning is sound and the arithmetic is collapsing.

When is the best time to buy IGCSE science support?+

Year 10, or the summer between Year 10 and Year 11, and almost nobody does either. In Year 10 the tier is still movable, content is being taught for the first time, and the evening slots are uncontested. The summer offers something better still: quantitative foundations can be rebuilt with no competing homework, and for a student whose physics and chemistry both look weak that block is frequently the whole fix. After the spring mocks of Year 11 is the most expensive window with the least to work with.

Do we need separate sciences for a UAE university application?+

That depends on the programme and the university, and it should be checked on the institution's own admissions page rather than assumed. What is published and checkable is the Ministry of Education equivalency rule for the British track: five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from the five, plus one A Level at E or two AS Levels at the same grade. One ranking tutoring site in this market publishes a six-subject figure, which is incorrect. No tutoring is required for equivalency.

What should a science tutor set between sessions?+

Past-paper questions from the board, selected to match the diagnosed loss, marked before the next session. Most of the consolidation in science happens between lessons, so a tutor who sets nothing is selling an hour of company rather than a course of study. Ask explicitly whether work is set and marked and whether that is inside the quoted rate. Ask also where the papers come from: they should be the board's published material or what the school supplies, not a pack being sold to you.

How quickly can you match a science specialist for a Muhaisnah student?+

Biology and chemistry typically reach a trial lesson within three to five days, because the specialist pool is reasonably deep. Physics takes a little longer, four to seven days, and Extended-tier physics longer again. Double-award routes depend on the code: Cambridge 0654 is well covered and Pearson 4SD0 takes longer because fewer tutors have taught that specific paper structure. We will tell you the wait rather than filling the slot with a tutor from an adjacent subject, because the gap surfaces in the final term.

Why should we pay more for online lessons than a local tutor charges?+

You probably will not. Local science tutoring around Muhaisnah is plentiful and inexpensive, and most of it teaches Indian-curriculum science, which is genuinely useful for Key Stage 3 foundations and insufficient for Extended-tier IGCSE paper technique. The published in-home band of roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour includes travel through the afternoon peak. What online delivery buys is a tutor matched to your child's actual syllabus code rather than whoever is nearby, at a rate that pays for teaching rather than a drive.

Buy one science, and buy it on evidence

The three-subject request is the one thing we would talk almost every family in this catchment out of, and not because of the revenue. A Year 11 student has no spare evenings, and three thin engagements beat one good one on exactly nothing. Send us the syllabus codes and tiers, the three mock scripts and the school's weekly timetable, and we will tell you which subject is genuinely weak, which losses are technique that one short block fixes across all three papers, and what the school's own revision will carry. A free trial lesson comes first, and nothing is charged before it.
