IB Examiner Tutor in the UAE

Parents across the UAE search for an IB examiner tutor because they want someone who understands how the marks are awarded, not just the syllabus. This page sets out how IB marking runs - who marks what, what moderation does to an internal mark, and when grade boundaries are decided - then counts the exam year backwards from the week marking begins. Lessons are one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. No tutor is described as an examiner here unless that appointment can be evidenced.

  • Every lesson is one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time
  • Examiner or moderator experience is stated only where a tutor evidences it
  • A tutor teaches and gives feedback; your child's assessed work stays theirs
  • Free 45-minute trial lesson, one per family, no card details taken

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

What a parent is really asking for when they search for an IB examiner tutor

A search for an IB examiner tutor in the UAE is a search for insight into the marking, not for a different syllabus. The syllabus is public. The subject guides are public. What is not public, and what families sense they are missing, is the procedure that turns a piece of work into a number: who reads it, what they are instructed to reward, when that reading happens, and how a mark can still move after it leaves the classroom. That procedure has dates attached to it, and those dates are the most useful thing a UAE family can plan around.

IB Gram does not call a tutor an IB examiner unless the tutor has produced evidence of the appointment and it is current. Examiner appointments are made session by session, they carry confidentiality obligations, and they bring no advance sight of papers, mark schemes or boundaries. A provider implying otherwise is either confused about how IB papers are marked or selling something it cannot deliver. What marking experience genuinely transfers is literacy in the instruction sheet: how a command term narrows an answer, why a markband rewards one sentence and ignores another, and how long a competent response actually needs to be.

That literacy only pays if it arrives in time. An exploration cannot be rescued the week it is due. A Higher Level choice cannot be unwound after the entry deadline has passed. A mock paper is a diagnosis, not a verdict, but only if someone reads it against the criteria within a fortnight of it coming back. So this page is organised as a calendar, counted backwards from the week the marking begins, with the dates each board actually publishes set beside the ones only your school can give you.

Delivery is the part we are blunt about. Tuition for UAE families is one-to-one online IB tuition over live video. IB Gram does not send anyone to a villa, an apartment or a compound anywhere in the Emirates; home visits are a service offered only in India. The reason is not cost. A family in Al Ain or Khor Fakkan who insists on someone in the room is choosing from the adults who happen to live within a twenty-minute drive. The same family online is choosing from specialists who have taught that exact Higher Level paper for years, and a shared screen is where marked work is actually read line by line.

The rest of the page covers the marking chain, the calendar counted backwards, the dates Cambridge and Pearson have published, what command terms instruct a marker to look for, how IB internal assessment moderation works, what the UAE market charges at each tier and who published those figures, where the academic-honesty line sits, and what the Ministry of Education equivalency file asks for once the papers are over. Figures are attributed. Dates we cannot source are left blank rather than guessed.

At a glance

  • Examiner appointments are session-based, confidential, and carry no early access to papers or boundaries
  • Internal assessment marks are awarded by the school, then moderated by the IB on a sample
  • Grade boundaries are set after marking is complete, which is why nobody can tell you one in advance
  • Final exam entries close months before the first paper, and a level change has to beat that deadline
  • Cambridge runs June and November series on six zone timetables; using the wrong version is the candidate's risk
  • Every lesson is one-to-one online, in Gulf Standard Time, with the trial lesson free and capped at 45 minutes
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The four IB programmes differ most in who does the marking. One ends in externally marked papers, one in a reflective project, one in internally assessed units sampled by the IB, and one in an exhibition nobody outside the school ever grades. That difference decides what tutoring can and cannot change.

DPAges 16-19 - Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Most of the grade comes from papers marked externally by IB examiners who never meet the candidate. The rest comes from internal assessment marked by the class teacher and moderated by the IB on a sample. The two routes fail differently: a paper is lost to technique and timing, an internal assessment is lost to a research question that was never going to work.

The May session is the one UAE schools sit, and it collides with Ramadan in some years and with Eid in others. Diploma families here also carry Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies on the same timetable, because an emirate regulator requires them regardless of the licensed curriculum. Plan the Diploma year as a UAE year, not a generic one.

CPAges 16-19 - Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

Two or more Diploma courses taken alongside a career-related study, a reflective project, a personal and professional skills course, service learning and a language development portfolio. The Diploma courses inside it are marked exactly as Diploma courses are, with the same papers and the same external examiners. The reflective project is assessed against its own published criteria and moderated. Students often misread the programme as lighter; the marked components are not.

Career-related provision in the UAE is thinner than Diploma provision, and a family may be the only one in a school taking a particular pairing. That makes a specialist outside the building more useful than a generalist inside it, and it is the usual reason a Career-related student here ends up online.

MYPAges 11-16 - Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria each, marked by the school on an eight-point scale, with optional externally marked eAssessments at the end of Year 11. The criteria language carries straight into the Diploma: a student who has been taught to read criterion wording in the Middle Years Programme arrives in Year 12 already fluent in the thing most Diploma students learn late and expensively.

Many UAE schools run the Middle Years Programme and then switch to Cambridge or Pearson qualifications at 16, so a student can leave criterion-based marking for mark schemes within a single summer. That switch is the commonest cause of a sharp, temporary grade drop in Year 11 here.

PYPAges 3-12 - FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary inquiry across six themes, ending in the Exhibition. There is no external marking at all: no examiner reads a Primary Years student's work, and no mark leaves the school. Assessment is the teacher's judgement, recorded against learning outcomes the school itself sets within the IB framework. Support at this stage is about reading, number fluency and the habit of explaining a method out loud.

A Primary Years cohort in Dubai or Abu Dhabi still sits Arabic and Islamic Education under the emirate regulator's rules, taught in separate classes for Arab and non-Arab pupils. For most UAE families, the Exhibition year is the first time a child is asked to defend an argument in front of adults.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma courses UAE families most often ask about, described by where the marks actually go missing rather than by syllabus headings. Availability varies by week; if nobody is free at the level you need, we say so rather than substituting a generalist.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Higher Level adds a third paper and a markedly harder proof and calculus load. Marks go missing in method lines that are never written down, in unjustified steps a marker cannot award, and in an exploration whose mathematics is decorative rather than doing any work. Command-term discipline matters here more than speed.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Technology-led, modelling-led, and routinely underestimated. Candidates lose marks by reporting a calculator output without the model it came from, by rounding before the final step, and by writing conclusions that the data does not support. The exploration here rewards a real data set with real problems in it.

Physics

HL and SL

The written papers punish loose definitions and reward units, directions and clearly labelled diagrams. Uncertainty treatment is where internal assessment marks drain away: a well-run experiment with no serious evaluation of its limitations sits in the middle band however neat the graph looks.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms, energetics and equilibrium carry most of the Higher Level difficulty. Markers award correctly balanced equations, state symbols and explicit reasoning chains; they cannot award an answer that is right in the student's head. The investigation needs a variable that can actually be controlled in a school laboratory.

Biology

HL and SL

Content volume hides the real problem, which is command-term reading. A question asking students to outline is answered with an essay; one asking them to explain is answered with a description. The investigation rewards a biological question with enough replicates to say anything statistically.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagrams are marks, and unlabelled axes throw them away. Higher Level adds quantitative demands that reward working shown line by line. The internal assessment commentaries are lost on article choice more often than on analysis: an article with no identifiable policy intervention cannot carry the criteria.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tools are taught, application is marked. Candidates who name a framework without placing it inside the stimulus material score in the lower bands. The Higher Level research project needs a real organisation, primary access and a question narrow enough to answer in the word limit.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The individual oral and the paper responses reward a controlled line of argument over coverage. Markers follow a thesis; they cannot follow a tour of every device in the extract. Higher Level adds an essay whose marks sit in sustained comparison rather than in summary.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Pseudocode conventions and tracing tables are marked precisely, and improvised notation loses marks that the logic had already earned. The internal assessment needs a client who exists and a success criterion that can be tested, not a project the student found interesting in September.

Psychology

HL and SL

Studies are evidence, not content to be recited. Markbands reward a research study used to support a specific claim about behaviour, with its methodological limitations named. Essays lose marks to unargued breadth, and the experimental study loses them to a design that cannot be replicated from the write-up.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four ways families use an examiner-informed tutor, set out by what each one is actually for. All of them run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, and all of them work from your child's own marked work rather than from a generic worksheet pack.

Weekly one-to-one through the two Diploma years

A fixed slot that follows your child's school scheme of work, with the criteria named every time a piece of work is looked at. This is the pattern that moves a Higher Level grade, because it accumulates: the student who has had twenty marked responses discussed against a markband reads a paper differently from the student who has had two.

  • One subject per slot, 60 or 90 minutes, same tutor throughout
  • Session notes after each lesson, naming what was marked and what moved
  • Pauses available for mocks, exam weeks and family travel
  • Frequency rises in the final term rather than starting there

Marked-work clinics

A single session built around one returned script, mock paper or teacher-marked draft. The tutor reads it against the published criteria, names which command terms were misread, and shows the student where a mark was available and not taken. Families often book these after mocks come back, when the grade is known and the reason for it is not.

  • Bring the script, the mark scheme reference and the teacher's comments
  • Output is a short list of fixable technique errors, in priority order
  • No rewriting of assessed work; the student acts on the feedback themselves
  • Useful as a one-off before deciding on a weekly slot

Pre-session intensive block

A fixed block of hours in the final twelve weeks, planned by paper rather than by topic. The plan starts from how many timed questions a student can realistically complete and be given feedback on each week, then works out which topics those hours should cover. Blocks are agreed in writing before they start, with the hours and the subjects named.

  • Planned backwards from the first paper, not forwards from today
  • Every session ends with a timed question marked against the criteria
  • Topic order driven by the mock diagnosis, not by the textbook order
  • Scheduled around Ramadan hours where the family asks for it

Single diagnostic session

Ninety minutes with one aim: find out what is actually wrong. A tutor works through recent marked work and a short set of questions covering the topics the student says are fine, because the gap is often in those rather than in the ones already identified. The output is written and yours to keep, whether or not you book anything further.

  • No commitment to further sessions attached
  • Covers one subject at one level, with the level confirmed first
  • Written summary naming topics, technique and a suggested hours range
  • Separate from the free trial lesson, which is shorter and introductory

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in the UAE

The tutors below are the ones currently free for the levels this page covers. Each profile states the subjects and levels taught, and any examiner or moderator experience appears only where the tutor has shown us evidence of it. Where a profile says nothing about marking experience, that is the honest answer rather than an omission.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What an IB examiner tutor means, and the four things it cannot mean

  • Ask: which component, which level, which session, and how recently
  • Secure material reaches examiners on the same schedule as everyone else
  • Moderators see sampled school work, not an individual child's file
  • A past appointment is experience, not a current credential

An IB examiner is a subject teacher appointed by the IB to mark a specific component in a specific session. Appointments are made session by session. Assistant examiners mark scripts against a mark scheme they are trained on; team leaders check a sample of their examiners' marking for standard; moderators look at samples of internally assessed work from schools and adjust where a school has been generous or severe. All of them sign confidentiality undertakings before they see anything.

So an IB examiner tutor is a tutor who has done that work and can explain what it taught them. That explanation is genuinely valuable. Someone who has marked four hundred responses to the same question knows which phrasing the markband rewards, how long a full answer runs, and which plausible-sounding answer earns nothing. That knowledge is transferable and it is hard to acquire any other way.

Four things the badge cannot mean. It cannot mean advance sight of a paper, because papers are secure material and examiners receive them with the rest of the world. It cannot mean knowledge of the boundaries, because boundaries are set after the marking. It cannot mean influence over who marks your child. And it cannot be assumed to be current: an appointment held for one session in 2019 is a line on a curriculum vitae, not a live role. Ask which component, which level and which session, and ask what evidence exists. A provider that will not answer those three questions has told you what you needed to know.

02

How a piece of your child's work becomes a grade

Two different machines run in parallel through the Diploma, and families routinely confuse them. One is internal: the class teacher awards a mark against published criteria, the school submits a sample to the IB, and an IB moderator decides whether the school's marking matched the standard. If it did not, an adjustment is applied to the whole cohort rather than to one student. The other is external: the student's work goes to an examiner who has no connection to the school, marks it against a mark scheme, and never speaks to anyone involved.

This matters because the two machines respond to different kinds of help. Internal assessment is won early, in the choice of question, the design of the method and the quality of the data. Once the work is submitted to the school, nothing a tutor does can change the mark; the only remaining variable is whether the school's marking was accurate, and that is between the school and the moderator. External components are won late, in technique, timing and command-term reading, which is exactly what the final twelve weeks are for.

The table below sets out who touches what. Read it as a map of where effort pays. An hour spent interrogating a research question in the first term of the second year is worth several hours spent polishing prose a fortnight before the school's deadline, because by then the question has already decided the ceiling. The reverse holds for the papers: there is very little point rehearsing paper technique in the first term of the first year, when the student has met a third of the content and none of the pressure. Matching the kind of help to the kind of component is most of what a plan is for.

The Diploma years, counted backwards from the week marking begins

Most tutoring is bought in the wrong month. A family that starts in February of the final year is buying technique work, which is real but bounded; a family that starts in the first term of the first year is buying the decisions that set the ceiling. Neither is wrong, but they cost differently and they deliver differently, and nobody in this market publishes the sequence that would let a parent choose deliberately.

So here it is, counted backwards from the week examiners start reading. The anchor is deliberately not a calendar date, because the IB publishes its session dates through schools and we do not restate a date we cannot source. Your child's coordinator can give you the exact window in writing, and should. What does not change from year to year is the order of the milestones and the gap between them.

Two of these deadlines are effectively irreversible. Final exam entries fix subject, level and session; after that date a Higher Level that is not holding becomes a Higher Level your child sits. And the school's internal submission deadline for assessed work ends a tutor's involvement in that component completely. Everything else in the list can be adjusted, which is a useful thing to know in January when a mock result looks frightening.

The milestones families most often miss are the two in the middle of the first year, because nothing visible happens on either date. Subject selection and the first internal assessment window produce no grade and no report, so they generate no alarm, and yet they constrain the whole of the second year. The milestone families over-react to is the mock, which produces a number and therefore produces panic. Reading the list in order makes it obvious which of the two patterns a household is in, and that is usually enough to redirect the next three months of spending.

The dates you can diary today, and the ones that come from your coordinator

Cambridge and Pearson publish their series dates openly, and a UAE family can put them in a calendar this afternoon. The IB publishes its session dates to schools, and this page will not restate an IB exam or results date, because the only authority for one is the IB itself or your child's coordinator. That distinction is worth more than a confident guess: a wrong date in a revision plan is worse than a blank one.

Cambridge adds a complication nobody warns parents about. Every exam centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and each zone has its own version of the timetable. Cambridge's own guidance tells centres it is essential to use the correct version and says plainly that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used. If you have printed a timetable from the internet rather than taken one from your child's exams officer, you may be holding the wrong document.

The March series is the clearest illustration of why entry deadlines sit so far ahead of the papers. For Cambridge's March 2027 series the exam period runs from 3 February to 4 March 2027, but final entries were due on 27 November 2026 and forecast grades on 27 February 2027. The entry window closes more than two months before the first paper. Pearson, similarly, publishes provisional timetables well ahead of each series and revises them, which is why every plan should link the live official timetable rather than a copy.

IB command terms: the instruction sheet a marker is working from

Every IB question opens with a command term, and the command term is not decoration. It tells the examiner what kind of response earns credit, which means it also tells the student what kind of response is a waste of ink. A question asking a candidate to state is asking for a name or a value and nothing else; a paragraph of explanation attached to it earns no extra mark and costs minutes that the evaluate question at the end of the paper needed.

This is the single most teachable thing an examiner-informed tutor brings, and it is almost absent from the pages competing for this search. It is also measurable. Give a student ten past-paper questions, have them underline the command term before writing anything, and the pattern of lost marks usually resolves into two or three repeated misreadings rather than a content gap. Those misreadings are fixable in weeks.

The table lists the terms that recur across Diploma subjects with the instruction each carries. The definitions are the IB's own, published in the subject guides; the third and fourth columns are what the pattern of lost marks actually looks like in practice. Students should learn these the way they learn vocabulary, because in a timed paper there is no time to work out what is being asked.

One habit is worth building above all the others. Before writing anything, the student underlines the command term and writes the number of marks beside it, then decides how many distinct points the answer needs. That takes ten seconds and it prevents the two commonest failures at once: a paragraph where a line was wanted, and a line where a reasoning chain was wanted. Tutors here are asked to insist on it from the first session, including in the first Diploma year, when it is still cheap to make it automatic.

IB COMMAND TERMS AND WHAT A MARKER IS TOLD TO REWARD

06

Moderation and grade boundaries: the two things nobody can tell you in advance

  • A teacher-awarded internal mark is provisional until moderation is complete
  • Adjustments apply across a cohort, not to an individual student's file
  • Boundaries are set after marking, from the evidence of that session's scripts
  • Plan for comfortably inside a band rather than for the edge of it

IB internal assessment moderation is widely misunderstood by families and occasionally by schools. The school marks its own cohort against the criteria, submits a sample to the IB, and a moderator reads that sample to judge whether the school applied the standard correctly. Where the school has been generous, marks come down; where it has been severe, marks go up. The adjustment is applied at cohort level, so a single student's mark can move because of how their classmates' work was marked, not because of anything in their own.

The practical consequence is counterintuitive. A high teacher-awarded mark is not a result, it is a prediction, and a parent who treats it as banked may get an unpleasant surprise in July. The only defence is work that is strong on its own terms: a research question with a real variable in it, data that was genuinely collected, and an evaluation that names the method's limitations honestly. Moderators are reading for whether the criteria were met, and work that plainly meets them is hard to adjust downwards.

Grade boundaries are the second thing nobody can promise. They are set after marking is complete, by senior examiners reading the evidence of how the cohort performed on that particular paper, which is why they move between sessions. Any tutor who offers to tell you what a 7 will require next summer is describing last year's boundary or inventing one. The honest version is a range from recent sessions, with the warning that it is history rather than a target, and a plan built on being clear of the line rather than near it.

07

What an examiner-badged tutor costs in the UAE market

Examiner experience is the single largest premium in this market, and most pages competing for this search publish no number at all. Three of the six main competitors quote no price whatsoever, and the two that do quote in US dollars, a currency UAE families do not transact in. The table below is the market, in AED, with each figure attributed to whoever published it. It is not an IB Gram price list.

Read it as five tiers with five different things being sold. At the bottom you are buying company and patience, which drills practice questions adequately and reads a markband poorly. In the middle you are buying someone who has taught the course and marked class work against the criteria, which covers most Standard Level needs. At the top you are buying scarcity plus a claim, and the claim is the part worth interrogating before you pay the difference.

For context, Dubai's school fees were frozen for the 2026-27 academic year under the emirate's second economic incentives package, announced in May 2026, so the tutoring line is the one in a UAE family's education budget that is still moving. IB Gram's own answer to the pricing question is a free trial lesson of 45 minutes, one per family and with no card details taken, followed by a written quote for the hours actually proposed. Rates depend on subject, level and tutor, and quoting a single number for all of them would be dishonest.

Why this is taught online, and what that does to an exam-year plan

IB Gram delivers tuition to UAE families as one-to-one online IB tuition over live video. There is no in-home service anywhere in the Emirates; that option exists only in India. The honest reason is the shape of the specialist market. There are a limited number of adults in this country who have taught Higher Level Chemistry to the current guide and marked work against its criteria, and the chance that one of them lives twenty minutes from a particular villa in Al Ain or Ajman is small.

The format also suits what examiner-informed teaching actually involves. Most of the value is in reading a marked script together: the student's own paper on screen, the criteria beside it, the tutor annotating as the reasoning is traced. That works better shared on a screen than passed across a kitchen table, and it leaves a recorded artefact the student can revisit the night before a paper. The same session can pull up a past-paper question and a markband in seconds.

In an exam year, the scheduling argument becomes the decisive one. A visiting tutor consumes an evening at both ends, which is why so many of them insist on a two-hour minimum: the travel has to be worth someone's time. An online slot can be 45 minutes on a Tuesday and 90 on a Saturday, moved after Iftar during Ramadan, and held while a family is travelling. During the final twelve weeks, that flexibility is what keeps a plan alive.

Academic honesty gets stricter, not looser, when a tutor has marked papers

  • Permitted: subject teaching, criteria explanation, method rehearsal, feedback on the student's own draft
  • Not permitted: supplying sentences, rewriting to completion, or returning finished assessed work
  • Keep dated drafts; they are the student's evidence of their own process
  • Answer a coordinator's question about outside help honestly and specifically

Somewhere in this search results page is a provider selling finished internal assessments. One of them publishes a price for them. That is not tutoring; it is malpractice under the IB's academic-honesty rules, and the consequences land on the student, not the seller. A candidate found to have submitted work that is not their own can lose the diploma. No tutor who has actually moderated coursework would go anywhere near it, because they have seen what detection looks like from the other side of the desk.

The permitted line is clear and we will put it in writing. A tutor may teach the subject content, explain what a criterion is asking for, discuss a research question the student has proposed, rehearse a method, and comment on a draft the student has produced. A tutor may not supply sentences for an internal assessment, rewrite a paragraph of an Extended Essay, hand back a finished exploration, or sit beside a student and dictate. Where the boundary is reached, the session stops and we say so.

There is a disclosure side too. Your child's coordinator may ask whether outside help was used, and the right answer is the true one: tuition in the subject, with feedback on the student's own work. Schools are untroubled by that. What troubles them is work whose register changes halfway down a page. Keeping drafts, dated, is the student's own best protection, and it costs nothing. If a provider ever suggests that the disclosure question has a clever answer, treat that as the end of the conversation rather than as advice.

10

Results day, enquiry upon results, and the November decision

  • An enquiry upon results is submitted by the school, not by the family
  • Ask the coordinator in writing for the session's enquiry deadline before results day
  • A November retake rebuilds one or two subjects, not the whole diploma
  • Check whether an offer holds for a January result before entering

Results arrive through the school first and then to candidates, and the hours after that are busier than most families expect. Three decisions can be sitting on the table at once: whether to ask for a grade to be looked at again, whether to enter the November session, and whether a university offer still stands. Each has its own deadline, and the first two are short.

An enquiry upon results is the formal route for asking the IB to review a mark, and it is submitted by the school rather than by a parent. There are different categories of enquiry, there is a fee, and there is a window that closes quickly after results are released. We do not publish the date, because the IB sets it per session. What we tell families to do is ask the coordinator for the exact deadline in writing before results day, so the decision is made on evidence rather than in a rush.

The November session is a real option rather than a consolation. It gives a candidate roughly a term to rebuild one or two subjects while the rest of the diploma stands, and an examiner-informed read of the original script is the most useful input to that decision. Before committing, check what the university offer actually requires and whether it will hold for a January result, because the answer varies by institution and by country. Check too which components are retaken and which carry forward, since that decides whether the term's work is a whole course or two papers.

Ministry of Education equivalency, and the figure we will not publish

A UAE-recognised secondary certificate is a separate piece of paperwork from an IB diploma or a set of IGCSEs, and it is what a UAE university or a federal employer asks to see. The Ministry of Education equivalency process converts a foreign qualification into that recognition. It is not something a tutoring company performs, guarantees or speeds up, and no amount of tuition is required for it.

The British-track requirements are published and specific. A student must show five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among those five subjects. One page currently ranking in this market tells UAE parents they need six IGCSE subjects; the published figure is five, and getting that right matters more than any marketing line on the page.

For the American track, English proficiency is evidenced by a score of 5 in the academic IELTS, 61 in TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, with at least 450 in SAT Math. For the IB diploma there is a points threshold, and this page will not print a number for it, because we have not read one on the ministry's own site. Open the file in the final year, ask the school registrar which documents they issue and which you must attest yourself, and verify the current requirement at the official channel rather than from a tutoring page.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies in the same marking term

A UAE Diploma student is not only a Diploma student. Arabic, Islamic Education and social or moral studies are mandatory in Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and the federal position behind that is that private schools must teach Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies whatever else they offer. These lessons sit on the same timetable as Higher Level Physics, in the same week as an internal assessment deadline.

The rules around them are more specific than most parents realise. Schools must run separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes are prohibited because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arab students and for Arabic as a first language. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, and schools are advised that any mandatory-subject lesson should run at least 25 minutes.

For tutoring, two constraints follow. Material is tightly controlled: using different or additional content for these subjects without prior permission from the ministry is prohibited, so a tutor works with the school's own scheme rather than importing a syllabus. And teachers of Arabic and Islamic Education need the appropriate approval from the regulator to teach those subjects, which is a credential worth asking about specifically. The planning point is simpler: when a Diploma family builds a revision block, these subjects are already in the week, and pretending otherwise is how a plan collapses in March.

Where we tutor

Where UAE candidates sit, and when a session can realistically start

Your address decides which authority holds your child's school file, how far the examination centre is, and what time an evening session can honestly begin. None of that changes the marking, but all of it changes the plan. Session times below are the ones families in each emirate usually settle on.

Dubai

KHDA licenses the schools here and Dubai holds the country's largest IB cohort. For families in Jumeirah, Arabian Ranches or Dubai Hills, a school finish plus the drive home usually means 6pm or 7pm Gulf Standard Time is the first slot anyone will actually attend.

Abu Dhabi

ADEK holds the school file in Abu Dhabi, and it is the regulator no competitor page in this market bothers to name. Island and Khalifa City families often sit a long bus route, so sessions on the island commonly start after 6.30pm and run to 8pm.

Al Ain

Also ADEK territory, with far fewer IB places than the island. A Higher Level specialist is rarely within driving distance of Zakher or Al Jimi, which is precisely the case where a screen beats a car and a wider tutor pool beats a shorter commute.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education here and approves fees, curricula, programmes and assessment methods, not just inspection outcomes. Many Sharjah families commute into Dubai for school, so the usable evening window often opens after 7pm.

Ajman

Ajman's private schools sit under the federal Ministry of Education. Families here frequently drive to Sharjah or Dubai for an IB place, and the return leg decides whether a weekday session is realistic at all or whether weekends work better.

Umm Al Quwain

Also Ministry of Education territory, and the emirate with the thinnest local IB provision. Weekend mornings tend to hold better than weekday evenings once a Sharjah or Dubai school run is already in the diary twice a day.

Ras Al Khaimah

The Department of Knowledge regulates private education in Ras Al Khaimah. Distance from the Dubai school cluster makes local specialist cover unreliable, and the examination centre itself can be a long drive, which matters on the morning of a paper.

Fujairah

Fujairah's schools fall under the Ministry of Education, with the east coast and Khor Fakkan adding travel to everything. Live video removes the mountain road from the arithmetic, which is the single largest saving an east-coast family makes.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai and the southern corridor

Dubai's IB schools are concentrated along the Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail spine, which is why a 5pm session is a different proposition in Emirates Hills than in Deira. Students we support attend schools across this cluster, and the subject gaps we are asked to fill most often are Higher Level Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Dubai American Academy
  • Uptown International School
  • Deira International School
  • Repton School Dubai

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

ADEK territory, with the Diploma concentrated on the island and in the newer suburban schools. Students we support here travel further to school than their Dubai counterparts, so evening sessions start later and weekend blocks before mocks are more common than weekday ones.

  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Raha International School
  • GEMS World Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Abu Dhabi International School

Sharjah and the northern emirates

Provision thins quickly north of Dubai, and families mix IB and British tracks across the same household. Students we support in this cluster sit under three different authorities depending on which emirate the school is licensed in, which changes the inspection report but not the awarding body.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Ras Al Khaimah Academy
  • Emirates National School Sharjah
  • GEMS Our Own English High School Sharjah

Schools are named here as context for the UAE education system that students we support study inside; IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation to, endorsement from or partnership with any school, school group, regulator or awarding body.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the component, not just the subject

A message saying Chemistry Higher Level, Paper 2 technique, mocks in January is worth three messages saying help with science. Name the subject, the level, the board where it is not the IB, the session your child is sitting, and what the last marked piece of work came back as. That is enough to know whether a specialist is free.

  2. 02

    Free 45-minute trial lesson

One per family, with no card details taken beforehand and no obligation afterwards. A specialist in that subject and level works through a recent piece of marked work with your child, over live video. You get a short written read on what the marks say, whether or not anything is booked after it.

  3. 03

    A plan counted backwards

Before hours are agreed, we write down the dates that are already fixed: the school's internal deadlines, the mock window, the entry deadline and the session. The plan then works backwards from those rather than forwards from today, which is the difference between buying hours and buying a sequence.

  4. 04

    Weekly sessions with session notes

A fixed slot in Gulf Standard Time with the same tutor, and a short note after each lesson saying what was marked, which command terms were misread and what the student is practising next. The notes are the record you use to judge whether the hours are working.

  5. 05

Review at the mock, and again at twelve weeks

Two scheduled points where the plan is reopened rather than continued by default: when mock papers come back, and twelve weeks before the first paper. Frequency, subject mix and session length all change at those reviews, and sometimes the honest recommendation is fewer hours in one subject and none in another.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Marking experience stated, not implied

Examiner or moderator experience appears on a tutor profile only where it has been evidenced to us, with the component and the level named. Where a tutor has no marking history, the profile says nothing rather than reaching for a vaguer word. You can ask which session an appointment covered before the first paid lesson.

The calendar is the plan

Hours are planned backwards from entry deadlines, school submission dates, the mock window and the session itself. That is why this page is built as a calendar and not as a list of benefits. A plan that ignores the deadline it is working towards is a diary of lessons rather than a strategy.

Every figure attributed

Each AED rate on this page carries the name of whoever published it and the month we read it. Nothing here is presented as an IB Gram price except the free trial, and that comes with its conditions stated: 45 minutes, one per family, no card details. Statistics without a source do not appear.

A teaching service, in writing

A tutor teaches, explains criteria, rehearses methods and comments on the student's own draft. A tutor does not produce assessed work in any form, at any price, and will stop a session that drifts towards it. In a market where one provider sells finished internal assessments, that boundary is worth stating plainly.

Honest unavailability

Some subject and level combinations have no specialist free in a given week. When that happens we say so and give you a realistic date, rather than putting a generalist in the slot. A Higher Level paper taught by someone who has not taught it wastes the hours and the window at the same time.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

What does it actually mean when a tutor is described as an IB examiner?+

It should mean the IB appointed that person to mark a specific component in a specific session. Appointments are made session by session and carry confidentiality obligations. Assistant examiners mark scripts, team leaders check their examiners' standard, and moderators sample internally assessed work from schools. Ask which component, which level and which session, and ask what evidences it. The badge does not mean advance sight of papers, knowledge of boundaries, or any influence over who marks your child. On this site, a tutor is only described as an examiner where that appointment has been evidenced to us.

Can a tutor with marking experience tell us what the grade boundaries will be?+

No, and anyone who offers to is either quoting history or inventing a number. Boundaries are set after marking is finished, by senior examiners looking at how candidates performed on that particular paper, which is why they move between sessions. A useful tutor will show you the range boundaries have occupied in recent sessions and explain that it is history rather than a target. The planning consequence is practical: build towards being comfortably inside a band rather than a mark above where last year's line happened to fall.

Does examiner experience give a tutor early sight of the exam papers?+

It does not. Examination papers are secure material and examiners receive them on the same schedule as everyone else, under confidentiality undertakings they sign before any appointment begins. Someone who hints otherwise is describing something that would be a serious breach rather than a service. What marking experience does give is familiarity with how a question type has been marked in the past, which is legitimate and genuinely useful. If a provider suggests access to unreleased material, that is a reason to walk away rather than to pay more.

Who moderates the mark my child's teacher awards for an internal assessment?+

The class teacher marks the work against the published criteria, the school submits a sample to the IB, and an IB moderator reads that sample to judge whether the school applied the standard correctly. The moderator is not reading your child's file specifically; they are checking a school's marking. Where a school has been generous, marks come down across the cohort, and where it has been severe they go up. That is why a high teacher-awarded mark is a prediction rather than a result until moderation is complete.

Can a moderated internal assessment mark go down as well as up?+

Yes. Moderation adjusts in both directions, and the adjustment is applied at cohort level rather than to an individual. A student can see their mark move because of how their classmates' work was marked. The only real defence is work that plainly meets the criteria on its own terms: a research question with a genuine variable in it, data actually collected, and an evaluation that names the method's limitations rather than praising the experiment. Work like that is difficult to adjust downwards, because a moderator can see the criteria being met.

Which deadline in the exam year is the last one a family can still influence?+

The final exam entry deadline. Once entries are submitted, subject, level and session are fixed, so a Higher Level that is not holding becomes a Higher Level your child sits. It typically falls six to eight months before the first paper, and your school submits it against the board's date. The other effectively irreversible point is your school's internal submission deadline for assessed work, after which a tutor can do nothing further on that component. Everything else in the year can be adjusted.

How far back from the first paper does a sensible plan start?+

It depends on what you want the money to buy. Starting in February of the final year buys technique and timing, which is real but bounded. Starting in the first Diploma year buys the decisions that set the ceiling: the maths route, the Higher Level pattern, and a research question that can survive a failed first attempt. Most families here start after the January mocks, and the useful version of that is a diagnosis within a fortnight of the papers coming back, followed by a twelve-week block planned by paper rather than by topic.

What does a command term such as evaluate instruct a marker to reward?+

Evaluate asks for an appraisal that weighs up strengths and limitations and reaches a judgement. A marker is looking for both sides and a supported conclusion, so an answer listing only strengths sits in the lower bands however accurate it is. State asks for a name or value with no explanation. Explain asks for reasons, with each link in the chain written down. Discuss asks for competing positions, then a weighing of them. Learning these the way vocabulary is learned is one of the cheapest grade improvements available, because in a timed paper there is no time to work out the instruction.

Why do two answers containing the same facts score differently?+

Because a mark scheme rewards a particular shape of response, not the presence of correct information. A reasoning chain with one link left implicit loses the mark for that link even when the student clearly understood it. A comparison written as two separate descriptions earns the description marks and misses the comparison ones. Marks also go to units, state symbols, labelled axes and shown working, all of which are easy to omit under time pressure. This is why reading a marked script line by line usually explains a grade better than re-reading the textbook.

What happens to my child's script between the exam and the grade?+

Written papers go to an examiner with no connection to the school, who marks against a mark scheme they have been trained and standardised on, while senior examiners check samples to keep the standard consistent. Internal assessment stays with the school's mark until a moderator has read a sample. Once marking is complete, senior examiners set the boundaries for that session from the evidence of how the cohort performed, and grades are awarded. Nothing a family does during that period changes anything, which is why the work has to be finished before it starts.

What does an examiner-badged tutor charge in the UAE, and is the premium worth it?+

The top of this market is published at AED 500 to 650 and above; BartyED lists AED 650. Below that, specialists run AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270, and qualified subject teachers online start around AED 150 to 300 by Unitors' published rates. All figures were read in October 2026. The premium is worth paying where the claim is evidenced and the need is genuinely Higher Level technique. For Standard Level content gaps, a qualified teacher at a third of the price usually does the same work.

Why is this delivered online rather than by someone sitting beside my child?+

Because the specialist pool is national and the driving radius is not. A limited number of adults in this country have taught Higher Level Chemistry to the current guide and marked work against its criteria, and the odds that one lives twenty minutes from a particular address in Al Ain or Ajman are poor. IB Gram does not offer in-home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. Online also suits the work itself, since most of the value is in reading a marked script together on a shared screen.

Where is the honesty line when the tutor has marked that component before?+

Exactly where it is for any other tutor, and someone with marking experience usually guards it harder because they have seen detection from the other side. Permitted: teaching the content, explaining what a criterion asks for, discussing a question the student has proposed, rehearsing a method, and commenting on a draft the student has produced. Not permitted: supplying sentences for an internal assessment, rewriting a paragraph of an Extended Essay to completion, or handing back finished assessed work. Keep dated drafts, and answer your coordinator's question about outside help specifically and truthfully.

Which exam dates can we diary now, and which have to come from the school?+

Cambridge and Pearson publish theirs. Cambridge's March 2027 series runs 3 February to 4 March 2027, with final entries due 27 November 2026 and forecast grades 27 February 2027; results reach Cambridge Direct on 13 May 2027. Pearson's November 2026 International GCSE timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, and its November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. IB session and results dates come from your coordinator or the IB itself, and this page does not restate a date it cannot source.

Does the Cambridge zone my child's centre sits in change their timetable?+

Yes, and this catches families out. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and each zone has its own version of the series timetable. Cambridge's guidance for exams officers states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and says it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong version was used. Take the timetable from your child's exams officer rather than from a search result, and check the zone label on the document before building a revision plan around it.

After results, how long is the window for asking the IB to look again?+

Short, and set by the IB for each session. An enquiry upon results is submitted by the school rather than by a parent, there are different categories of enquiry, and a fee applies. We do not publish the deadline because it varies by session and we will not guess one. The useful move is to ask your coordinator in writing, before results day, for the exact date and the categories available. That way the decision is made on an examiner-informed read of the script rather than in a panic.

Does my child need Ministry of Education equivalency before a UAE university application?+

A UAE-recognised secondary certificate is what a UAE university or federal employer asks for, and the Ministry of Education equivalency process is how a foreign qualification becomes one. Open the file in the final year, because document collection and attestation take longer than families expect. For the British track the published rule is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no lower than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one Advanced Level at E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects. Verify current requirements at the official channel; no tutoring is required for any of it.

Do Arabic and Islamic Education marks go through the same external marking as Diploma subjects?+

No. They sit outside the IB's assessment entirely and are governed by the emirate regulator and the federal ministry instead. They are mandatory in Dubai private schools whatever international curriculum the school is licensed for, taught in separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students, with Standard Arabic required as the language of instruction in defined cases. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit. Using different or additional content without prior ministry permission is prohibited, so a tutor works from the school's own scheme rather than bringing their own material.

Start from the date, not from the subject

If your child sits papers next session, the first useful conversation is not about subjects at all. It is about which dates are already fixed: the school's internal submission deadlines, the mock window, the entry deadline, and the session itself. Tell us those and the component you are worried about, and we will tell you honestly whether a specialist is free and what the remaining weeks can realistically change. The trial lesson is free, 45 minutes, one per family, with no card details taken. If nobody is free at the level you need, we will say so and give you a date rather than filling the slot.
