IB Chemistry Tutor in Muhaisnah

Hiring an IB chemistry tutor in Muhaisnah is a budget decision as much as an academic one, and chemistry is the Diploma science where hours multiply fastest. This page starts from the annual figure rather than the hourly rate, shows where families in eastern Dubai lose money on chemistry specifically, and sets out which parts of the course are cheap to fix and which are not. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Annual and monthly figures given before any hourly rate
  • Cheap and expensive parts of the course named separately
  • Live one-to-one video lessons, no travel in the price

IB & IGCSE in Muhaisnah

Start with the annual figure, not the hourly rate

Families comparing chemistry tutors almost always compare hourly rates, which is the least informative number available. The figure that decides whether a plan is sensible is the annual one. A weekly hour with a qualified online tutor across a thirty-week school year lands at roughly AED 4,500 to 9,000 using the published Dubai bands. Specialist exam-year support at a weekly hour runs roughly AED 7,500 to 15,000 or more. A bounded ten-week block of two sessions a week comes in nearer AED 3,000 to 6,000 in total.

Chemistry deserves this framing more than any other Diploma science, because it is the subject where hours multiply quietly. A student who cannot explain a periodic trend needs weeks, not sessions. A student who has memorised equations and cannot account for why a reaction is spontaneous is a two-month job. Organic mechanisms, once they have gone wrong, absorb more tutoring time than any other single area of the Diploma sciences in our experience of this catchment. A family budgeting for six sessions of chemistry on the basis of the hourly rate is usually budgeting for the wrong engagement.

The good news is the other half of the arithmetic. Several parts of the chemistry course are genuinely cheap to fix, and they are worth a surprising number of marks. The data-based section inside Paper 1 rewards uncertainty handling and graph interpretation, which are independent of content confidence. Command-term discipline costs marks that cost almost nothing to recover. And the investigation, at 20% of the grade and marked out of 24 across four criteria, is almost entirely within the student's control for the months it is live.

So the structure of a sensible chemistry budget in this catchment is usually: a small amount spent early on the investigation question and on technique, both of which transfer across two years, and then a bounded block on the specific content area that is genuinely broken, bought only after a marked script has identified it. The expensive pattern is the reverse: an open-ended weekly slot bought in the second year, with no stated target, renewed monthly out of anxiety.

On delivery, plainly: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in the UAE. Home visiting is a service we run only in India, and the published Dubai market rate for in-home visits is roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included if that is what you are comparing against. Part of what that premium pays for is a drive into Muhaisnah through the afternoon peak. Our lessons are live one-to-one over video, which means the money buys teaching rather than travel, and a Higher Level chemistry specialist rather than whoever lives nearby.

A last framing note. Nothing on this page is a price list for our own service, and no figure here is a promise about a grade. The papers are marked externally, the investigation is marked by the school and moderated by the IB, and what a tutor genuinely controls is how many marks are lost for reasons unconnected to chemistry. That number is what a budget should be aimed at, and in this subject it is usually larger than families assume.

At a glance

  • A weekly hour across thirty weeks: roughly AED 4,500 to 9,000 at qualified rates
  • Bounded ten-week block, two sessions a week: roughly AED 3,000 to 6,000 total
  • Expensive to fix: periodic trends not understood, organic mechanisms gone wrong
  • Cheap to fix: command terms, uncertainty handling, data-based graph questions
  • The investigation is 20% of the grade and the best-value hour on the course

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry spend behaves differently at each stage, and the cheapest effective intervention is almost always earlier than families expect.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma chemistry

Two years across six content strands, Structure 1 to 3 and Reactivity 1 to 3, with additional higher-level material inside each. Examined across two written papers plus a scientific investigation worth 20%. Paper 1 contains a multiple-choice section and a data-based section; Paper 2 is extended response.

Chemistry is the second most requested Diploma science from this catchment after mathematics-adjacent subjects, and most enquiries are Higher Level students in the first year who have hit energetics or organic chemistry. Starting there rather than in the second year is both cheaper and more effective.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years sciences

Integrated sciences assessed against four criteria out of 8 each, with inquiry and design and processing and evaluating building the investigative skills the Diploma later assesses formally. Rates at this stage sit at the lower end of every published band because the specialism required is less.

The cheapest useful chemistry intervention available to a Muhaisnah family is quantitative work at this stage: moles, proportional reasoning and balancing. Students from Mirdif and Festival City continuum schools often arrive in Diploma chemistry strong on method and weak on arithmetic.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE chemistry as the route in

Cambridge 0620 or Pearson 4CH1, tiered, with practical skills assessed by a practical test or an alternative-to-practical written paper. Moles and electrolysis are the two areas where IGCSE performance predicts Diploma difficulty most reliably.

A student who found moles uncomfortable at IGCSE will find Diploma chemistry expensive, because mole reasoning underpins stoichiometry, energetics and equilibrium. Fixing it in the summer before the Diploma starts costs a fraction of fixing it in the second year, and almost nobody does.

ALAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

A Level chemistry, for comparison

The alternative offered by several eastern Dubai schools, with more depth in fewer subjects and practical skills assessed differently by board. Universities quote offers in either currency and neither route is universally preferred for chemistry-dependent courses.

Families sometimes ask whether A Level chemistry would be cheaper to support. It is not systematically cheaper; it is a different shape. Switching mid-course also forfeits investigation work already completed, so it is a conversation for the school rather than for a tutor.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Chemistry divides into areas with very different cost profiles. These are the ones Muhaisnah enquiries name, with an honest note on how many hours each typically absorbs.

Models of the particulate nature of matter

SL and HL

Atomic structure, the mole concept, electron configuration and the ideal gas relationship. Mole reasoning underpins everything later, so a gap here is the most expensive one in the course and the one most worth paying to fix early.

Models of bonding and structure

SL and HL

Ionic, covalent and metallic bonding, intermolecular forces, and at Higher Level more formal treatment of hybridisation and molecular geometry. Students draw structures competently and lose marks explaining the property that follows from them.

Classification of matter

SL and HL

Periodicity, the organic families and spectroscopic identification. Periodic trends are the area where recall most commonly substitutes for understanding, and the longer questions ask for an account rather than a statement.

What drives chemical reactions

SL and HL

Energetics, entropy and spontaneity, with Gibbs energy at Higher Level. Conceptually the hardest strand for most students in this catchment and a reliable consumer of tutoring hours once it has gone wrong.

How much, how fast and how far

SL and HL

Stoichiometry, kinetics and equilibrium including acid-base and redox treatment. Equilibrium questions reward reasoning about shift and extent rather than recalling a rule, and that is a teachable distinction.

Mechanisms of chemical change

SL and HL

Organic reaction mechanisms and electrochemistry. The single largest consumer of tutoring time in Diploma chemistry, because a student who has learned mechanisms as sequences to memorise has to unlearn before they can learn.

Uncertainty and data handling

Examined in Paper 1

Absolute and percentage uncertainty, propagation, significant figures and graph interpretation. Cheap to teach, worth a predictable number of marks, and largely independent of whether the student understands equilibrium.

Command-term discipline

Examined throughout

State, deduce, explain, outline, discuss and justify each want a different answer. Among the lowest-cost gains available: a student writing explanations where deductions were requested is doing extra work for fewer marks.

The scientific investigation

SL and HL

Twenty per cent of the grade, marked out of 24 across four criteria. Most of the mark is decided by the research question before any data is collected, which makes the first session the cheapest and most valuable on the whole course.

Spectroscopic and analytical techniques

SL and HL, deeper at HL

Mass spectrometry, infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance used to deduce structure. Pattern-recognition work that responds quickly to practice, which makes it good value in a short block before a series.

Calculations under time pressure

Both papers

Multi-step stoichiometry and energetics arithmetic done accurately at speed. Students who can do the chemistry untimed and not timed have a pacing problem, which needs timed sections rather than more content.

Higher Level extension content

HL only

Additional material within each strand rather than as a separate unit, examined in the same papers. Students who over-revise the shared content and under-revise the extension are capped, and that is a planning error that costs nothing to correct.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy chemistry support, priced differently and suited to different problems. All are delivered live one-to-one over video.

Investigation and technique block, first year

The best-value chemistry purchase available in this catchment. Four to six sessions covering the investigation research question and the uncertainty and data-handling skills examined in Paper 1. Both transfer across the full two years and neither depends on content confidence.

  • Research question tested before any data exists
  • Uncertainty propagation and graph work drilled
  • Transfers to both years of the course
  • Bounded cost, known in advance

Targeted content block on one strand

Bought only after a marked script has identified which strand is genuinely broken. Typically eight to twelve sessions for energetics or organic mechanisms, fewer for periodicity or analytical techniques. Quoted as a block with a fixed end so the total is known rather than accumulating.

  • Diagnosed from marked work, not from description
  • Fixed number of sessions, total known upfront
  • Organic and energetics quoted longer, honestly
  • Ends with a timed assessment of the strand

Pre-series technique intensive

Eight to ten weeks before a session, two a week, on command terms, timed calculation, the data-based section and spectroscopic deduction. Each session ends with a timed section marked to the published scheme. Efficient because these marks are recoverable without rebuilding content.

  • Command-term and timing discipline drilled
  • Data-based section and spectroscopy practised
  • Timed sections marked to the published scheme
  • Finishes before study leave, not during it

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Muhaisnah

01

Published Dubai rates, read as an annual commitment

Here is the market expressed the way a family actually experiences it. The hourly figures are other providers' published rates, collected in October 2026, and the third column converts each into what a weekly hour costs across a thirty-week school year. That conversion is the number worth arguing about, because it is the one that lands on a household budget.

Reading it this way changes the comparison. The gap between a qualified online tutor and a budget one is roughly AED 2,700 to 4,500 across a year, which is a real sum and buys a genuinely different lesson. The gap between a qualified tutor and a premium examiner-branded provider is far larger and buys scarcity and brand rather than a demonstrably different outcome, which is worth saying plainly because nobody in this market says it.

The in-home row is the one to study if you are weighing formats. The published band of AED 180 to 500 an hour includes travel, and monthly in-home packages of four two-hour visits have been published at AED 1,599 to 1,799, which is roughly AED 12,000 to 13,500 across a year for eight hours a month. Compare that against a weekly online hour at qualified rates and the difference is substantial, and most of it is a car journey.

Our own figure is agreed at the consultation once the level, the diagnosed problem and the cadence are known, because a first-year investigation block and a second-year organic rebuild are not the same product and a single number would mislead most readers. We sit in the qualified-specialist part of this table rather than the budget part. The trial lesson is free, nothing is charged before it, and if the marked script says a bounded block will do we quote the block rather than the year.

Where chemistry money is actually wasted in this catchment

  • Content coverage bought when the script shows a technique problem
  • Organic mechanisms addressed in the second year rather than the first
  • Specialist rates paid to fix Key Stage 4 mole arithmetic
  • The investigation reached after its ceiling has already been set
  • Two sciences tutored at once: double cost, usually half the effect each

Five patterns, all specific to this subject. First, buying content coverage when the marked script shows a technique problem. A student losing marks on command terms, uncertainty and timing does not need more equilibrium teaching, and a term of it is several thousand dirhams aimed at the wrong target. Chemistry is particularly prone to this because content feels like the obvious explanation for a chemistry grade.

Second, starting organic chemistry support late. Mechanisms learned as memorised sequences have to be unlearned before they can be understood, and the unlearning takes longer than the learning would have. A student who began the topic badly in the first year and seeks help in the spring of the second is buying the most expensive version of this fix available. Starting the same work twelve months earlier is materially cheaper.

Third, paying specialist rates for mole arithmetic. If the real gap is proportional reasoning and balancing, that is Key Stage 4 content and a qualified tutor at the middle band can fix it. Buying a Higher Level Diploma specialist to rebuild mole reasoning is paying for scarcity you do not need.

Fourth, leaving the investigation until the second year. It carries 20% of the grade, it is marked out of 24 across four criteria, and most of the available marks are determined by the research question. Reaching it late means paying for sessions on a write-up whose ceiling was set months earlier. Fifth, buying two sciences at once. A Diploma student carrying chemistry and physics support simultaneously, on top of six subjects and the core, usually produces two mediocre efforts at double the cost.

03

Structure and Reactivity: what the current guide contains

The current Diploma chemistry guide organises content into two groups of three strands: Structure 1 to 3 and Reactivity 1 to 3, with additional higher-level material inside each rather than as a separate block. That matters for a tutoring budget because the cost of help is not uniform across them. Two strands reliably absorb hours and four do not, and knowing which is which before you buy changes the quote you should accept.

The table sets out each strand with what it covers, how expensive it typically is to fix once it has gone wrong, and why. Read the cost column as a planning tool rather than a verdict: a strand marked expensive is not harder in some abstract sense, it is more interconnected, so a gap there propagates into later work and the repair involves revisiting more ground.

The two expensive strands are energetics and spontaneity, and mechanisms of chemical change. Energetics is conceptually demanding and underpins equilibrium reasoning later. Organic mechanisms are expensive for a different reason: students commonly learn them as sequences to reproduce, which works until a paper asks them to predict an unfamiliar one, and the correction requires rebuilding how they think about the topic rather than adding to what they know.

The cheap strands are worth naming too, because families rarely ask for them. Analytical and spectroscopic techniques respond quickly to pattern practice. Periodicity responds to being taught as explanation rather than recall. And classification of matter rewards structured note-making more than tutoring. If your budget is limited, spend it on the expensive strands and on technique, and let the school's teaching carry the rest. Confirm the current structure against your child's subject guide, which the IB coordinator can supply.

04

What your child sits, and which components are cheap to improve

Chemistry is examined across two written papers plus the scientific investigation. Paper 1 carries 36% and contains a multiple-choice section and a data-based section. Paper 2 is extended response and carries 44%. The investigation carries the remaining 20%. Higher Level sits longer papers covering the extension content in the same components; there is no separate third paper, which distinguishes chemistry from Higher Level mathematics.

Expressed as a budget question, this structure has a clear implication. The data-based section and the investigation together account for a meaningful share of the grade and both reward skills that are independent of content confidence: uncertainty handling, significant figures, graph interpretation, research design, evaluation. Those are the cheap marks. Paper 2 extended response rewards content understanding and command-term discipline, and the content half of that is where the expensive work sits.

So a family with a limited budget should buy the cheap marks first. It feels counterintuitive to spend on uncertainty arithmetic when a student is struggling with energetics, but the arithmetic is recoverable in a handful of sessions and the energetics is not. A student who secures the technique marks while the school continues teaching content frequently moves a grade without any content tutoring at all.

The table below sets out each component with what it rewards and an honest note on how responsive it is to a short intervention. Confirm weightings and durations against the current subject guide for your child's cohort, because they are revised when a guide is reissued, and ask any prospective tutor to recite them from memory before you book.

Organic chemistry: why it costs more than anything else

If a Muhaisnah family tells us their child is struggling with organic chemistry, we quote a longer block than for any other strand, and it is worth explaining why rather than simply charging for it. Organic chemistry is the one area of the Diploma sciences where the commonest way of learning it actively obstructs the assessment. Students learn mechanisms as sequences of arrows to reproduce. That works on a familiar reaction and fails completely when a paper presents an unfamiliar one and asks what will happen.

Repairing it means rebuilding the student's model: electron density, nucleophiles and electrophiles, why a particular bond is the vulnerable one, what makes a leaving group leave. Until that is in place, every additional mechanism is another thing to memorise, and the memory load grows faster than the understanding. The work is slow because it is genuinely conceptual, and a tutor who promises to fix organic chemistry in four sessions is either exceptional or guessing.

The practical budget consequence is that organic chemistry is the strongest argument in the subject for starting in the first year. A student who learns mechanisms correctly the first time needs no repair at all. A student who learns them as sequences and seeks help eighteen months later is buying both the unlearning and the learning, at specialist rates, during the term when the investigation and the mocks are also competing for their time.

If you are already in the expensive version of this situation, the honest advice is to narrow rather than to buy more hours. Pick the mechanism families that actually appear most in the papers your child will sit, secure those properly, and accept that complete coverage is not available in the time remaining. A tutor who will prioritise with you is worth more than one who proposes to cover everything, because the second plan will not finish and the student will have paid for the part that did.

06

The investigation: 24 marks and the cheapest hour on the course

  • Four criteria at six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion, evaluation
  • The research question caps everything downstream, so it is the first conversation
  • One session on question viability protects most of the available marks
  • Allowed: criteria explained, design questioned, descriptors named on the student's draft
  • Never: writing, restructuring, supplying data or performing the analysis

Twenty per cent of the chemistry grade is submitted before any examination, is marked out of 24 across four criteria of six marks each, and is almost entirely within the student's control while it is in progress. There is no cheaper source of marks in the subject, and no component more consistently neglected until it is too late to influence.

The four criteria are research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. The decisive one is the first, because the quality of everything that follows is capped by the question chosen and the variables identified. A question with no cleanly measurable independent variable produces data with nothing to analyse, which caps the second criterion, which caps the third. A single session on question viability therefore protects most of the available marks, and it is one session.

The boundary on help is firm. A tutor may explain what each criterion asks for, interrogate the research question and the control of variables, check that uncertainties have been propagated correctly, and read the student's own draft to say which descriptor is not yet met. A tutor may not write, restructure or complete any part of the submission, supply data, or perform the analysis. After a useful session the student holds three specific problems and the document contains nothing the tutor produced.

This is also where the market's worst behaviour sits. One provider found in the research for these pages sells completed internal assessments at a published price. Buying one is not a shortcut, it is an academic-honesty breach that triggers IB malpractice procedures against the student rather than the seller, and the consequence lands on a sixteen-year-old. We will not produce assessed work at any price and we would rather say so on the page than in terms and conditions.

07

How many hours a chemistry grade actually needs

This is the question families ask last and should ask first. The honest answer depends entirely on what the marked script says, and the range is wide enough to matter: some chemistry problems are a four-session fix and some are a two-term rebuild. Quoting an average would be useless, so the table below sets out the scenarios we actually see from this catchment with a realistic session count for each.

Use it to sanity-check any quote you are given, including ours. If a provider proposes thirty sessions for a command-term and timing problem, they are overselling. If a provider proposes six sessions to rebuild organic mechanisms from a memorised-sequence starting point, they are underselling and the engagement will quietly extend. Both are common and both are detectable with this table in hand.

The scenarios assume a specialist at the qualified or specialist band working one-to-one, with problems set and marked between sessions. Without work between sessions, add roughly half again to every row: most of the consolidation in chemistry happens between lessons, and a tutor who sets nothing is selling an hour of company rather than a course of study.

The last column is the one that should drive the purchase. Where a problem is diagnosable and bounded, buy the block and stop. Where it is a rebuild, accept the length upfront and plan the budget around it rather than discovering it in month four. And where the diagnosis is uncertain, buy three sessions to establish it before buying anything longer, because the cheapest money in this subject is the money spent working out what to spend the rest on.

08

Higher Level chemistry, university routes and the cost of getting it wrong

Higher Level chemistry is required or strongly expected for medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and several biological and chemical engineering routes across most destinations, usually alongside biology or physics depending on the programme. That makes it one of the highest-stakes Higher Level choices a Diploma student makes, and it is also one of the most demanding in content volume, which is why the tutoring demand for it in this catchment is steady.

Requirements are stated by subject and level on each university's own admissions page, and that is the only place to check them. A tutoring page cannot responsibly generalise about medicine admission across countries, and we will not: the requirement is institutional, it changes, and a wrong generalisation could shape a subject choice badly. If the intended destination is unclear, the lower-risk position for a chemistry-dependent route is Higher Level chemistry taken seriously from the first term.

What this means for a budget is that chemistry is often the subject where a family is least willing to economise and most likely to overspend as a result. The remedy is not spending less, it is spending in the right order: technique and investigation first because they are cheap and transferable, then the diagnosed content strand as a bounded block, and nothing at all on strands the school is teaching adequately.

One caution that belongs on a page about cost. No tutoring is required for a university application, for Ministry of Education equivalency, or for school progression, and any provider implying otherwise is selling urgency rather than teaching. Equivalency is a Ministry process with published requirements, and for the British track those are five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic Education, plus A Level or AS Level passes. No IB points threshold should be quoted to you without a source on the Ministry's own site.

09

Starting chemistry support from Muhaisnah, at a known cost

Send the level, the most recent marked script and the school's weekly timetable. The script is what makes a quote honest: it tells a chemistry specialist whether this is a four-session technique fix or a two-term organic rebuild, and those two differ by an order of magnitude in cost. A description in words almost always points at content when the marks point at technique.

If the diagnosis is genuinely unclear, buy the three-session block and nothing more. It ends with a written view of what the problem is and what it will take, and it quite often concludes that a short bounded block is sufficient, which is a smaller sale than a weekly slot and the right recommendation. We would rather give that advice than take a monthly payment nobody is measuring.

After the diagnosis, agree the block with a fixed number of sessions and a stated target so the total cost is known in advance. For chemistry a good target is narrow: propagating percentage uncertainty without prompting, matching answer length to the command term, or predicting an unfamiliar mechanism from electron density rather than recall. Each is checkable on a marked paper, which makes the review at the end of the block evidence rather than conversation.

And if you are reading this in the first year rather than the second, the cheapest intervention available to you is the investigation question and uncertainty technique, bought now, as a short block. Both transfer across two years, neither depends on content confidence, and together they protect a substantial share of the grade for a fraction of what a second-year rescue costs. Families who do this rarely need us again; families who do not usually pay more later.

Where we tutor

Chemistry provision and the cost of distance around Muhaisnah

Where a family lives changes what an in-home quote looks like and how far they are from Diploma chemistry provision.

Muhaisnah

No Diploma provision inside the neighbourhood, and any in-home quote includes a drive along Al Awir Road at the afternoon peak. That travel component is the clearest cost difference between the two formats here.

Al Qusais

School-dense but predominantly Indian and British curricula. Plentiful general science tutors locally at lower rates, and very few Diploma chemistry specialists at any rate.

Mirdif

Continuum provision including Diploma sciences. In-home quotes from Mirdif-based tutors are the most competitive available to Muhaisnah families, because the journey is short.

Dubai Festival City

Two of the nearest Diploma schools. Families schooling here and living in Muhaisnah pay the travel cost twice if they also buy in-home support, once in the school run and once in the tutor's rate.

Al Garhoud

The shortest run west, so earlier arrivals and lower in-home quotes. Also the cluster where a half past five chemistry session is genuinely workable, which matters for energetics.

Al Nahda

Boundary community with the longest journeys. In-home evening quotes from this direction sit higher than the distance suggests, purely because of the traffic risk the tutor is absorbing.

Al Warqa

Strong local supply of Indian-curriculum science tutoring at competitive rates. Useful for a Year 9 student rebuilding mole arithmetic, insufficient for Higher Level Diploma chemistry.

Al Mizhar

Villa district with almost no local supply. In-home quotes here reflect the drive rather than the teaching, which makes the online route both cheaper and better staffed.

Nad Al Hamar

Short runs to Festival City schools, so early-evening sessions hold and in-home quotes are reasonable. One of the few parts of this catchment where either format works.

International City

Distant and price-sensitive. Families here get the most from the lower and middle online bands and very little value from any in-home arrangement.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the level and a marked script

Standard or Higher Level plus the most recent marked paper. The script decides whether this is a four-session technique fix or a two-term organic rebuild, and those differ by an order of magnitude in cost. Words describing the problem usually point at the wrong one.

  2. 02

Buy the diagnosis before the hours

If the picture is unclear, three sessions ending in a written view of what the problem is and what it will take. It frequently concludes that a short bounded block is sufficient, which is the smaller sale and the right advice.

  3. 03

Agree a block with a fixed length

A stated number of sessions and a stated target, so the total cost is known upfront rather than accumulating monthly. Chemistry is the Diploma science where open-ended engagements drift longest, which is why we quote blocks.

  4. 04

Use the free trial to test the specialist

Ask the tutor to name the six strands of the current guide, the paper weightings at your child's level, and what the investigation is marked out of and against which criteria. A specialist answers all three in two minutes.

  5. 05

Spend on technique and the investigation first

Uncertainty handling, command terms and the investigation research question are cheap, transferable across both years, and independent of content confidence. They are the right first purchase even when the content feels like the problem.

  6. 06

Review against a marked paper, then decide

At the end of the block, check the stated target on the student's own work. Continue, change the tutor, change the diagnosis or stop. A spend nobody measures gets renewed out of uncertainty, which is the costliest habit in this market.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Annual figures, not just hourly rates

Every published rate on this page is converted into what a weekly hour costs across a thirty-week year, because that is the number that lands on a household budget. Three of six strongly ranking competitor pages publish no price at all.

The expensive strands named honestly

Energetics and organic mechanisms absorb more hours than any other part of Diploma chemistry, and we quote longer blocks for them rather than discovering the length in month four. A provider promising to fix organic chemistry in four sessions is guessing.

Cheap marks bought first

Uncertainty handling, command-term discipline and the investigation question are recoverable in a handful of sessions and transfer across both years. Buying those before any content work frequently moves a grade without content tutoring at all.

A diagnosis you can buy on its own

Three sessions ending in a written view of the problem, which sometimes concludes that no further tutoring is warranted. It is the cheapest money in the subject because it stops the rest being spent in the wrong place.

Travel is not inside the price

The published in-home band of AED 180 to 500 an hour includes a drive, and in Muhaisnah that drive crosses the afternoon peak. Online delivery means the money buys teaching, and a Higher Level specialist rather than whoever lives nearby.

No assessed work produced, no urgency manufactured

We will not write, restructure or complete any part of an investigation at any price. Nor will we suggest tutoring is required for university admission, school progression or Ministry equivalency, because none of those is true and implying it is selling fear.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Muhaisnah: your questions answered

What does a year of IB chemistry tutoring actually cost in Dubai?+

Using the published bands, a weekly hour with a qualified online tutor across a thirty-week school year lands at roughly AED 4,500 to 9,000. A specialist at AED 200 to 450 and above comes out nearer AED 6,000 to 13,500 or more. In-home monthly packages of four two-hour visits have been published at AED 1,599 to 1,799, which is roughly AED 12,000 to 13,500 annually for eight hours a month. A bounded ten-week block of two sessions a week is roughly AED 3,000 to 6,000 in total. Those figures belong to the providers named, collected October 2026.

Why is chemistry more expensive to tutor than other Diploma sciences?+

Not because the hourly rate differs, but because the hours multiply. Two strands in particular absorb time: energetics and spontaneity, which is conceptually demanding and underpins equilibrium reasoning later, and organic mechanisms, where students commonly learn reactions as sequences to reproduce and have to unlearn that before they can predict an unfamiliar one. A gap in mole reasoning compounds the problem because stoichiometry, energetics and equilibrium all rest on it. Other parts of the course are genuinely cheap to fix, which is why diagnosis before purchase matters so much here.

Which parts of IB chemistry are cheapest to improve?+

Three, and they are worth a surprising number of marks. The data-based section inside Paper 1 rewards uncertainty handling, significant figures and graph interpretation, all of which drill to automaticity in four to six sessions and none of which depend on content confidence. Command-term discipline is similar: a student writing explanations where deductions were requested is doing extra work for fewer marks. And the investigation research question, while it is still open, protects a fifth of the grade for the price of a single session.

How many chemistry sessions does a diagnosed gap usually take?+

It depends on what the marked script shows and the range is wide. Command terms and answer structure: four to six. Uncertainty and graph work: four to six. Pacing problems: six to eight. Insecure mole and stoichiometry arithmetic: eight to twelve. Energetics not understood: ten to fourteen. Organic mechanisms learned as memorised sequences: fourteen to twenty or more. If the diagnosis is unclear, buy three sessions to establish it before buying anything longer. Any quote that ignores this range in either direction is overselling or underselling.

Is a cheaper tutor enough for Standard Level chemistry?+

Sometimes, and it depends on the task. If the requirement is consolidation of content the school has already taught, a qualified tutor in the AED 150 to 300 band does that competently. If the requirement is investigation coaching, data-based technique or anything involving the assessment model rather than the chemistry, the specialist band earns its premium because assessment literacy is what you are paying for. The budget tier, at roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour as published, is homework support and should be bought as such rather than as Diploma preparation.

What are the six strands of the current chemistry course?+

Structure 1, the particulate nature of matter, covering atomic structure, the mole and gases. Structure 2, bonding and structure. Structure 3, classification of matter including periodicity and organic families. Reactivity 1, what drives chemical reactions, covering energetics and spontaneity. Reactivity 2, how much, how fast and how far, covering stoichiometry, kinetics and equilibrium. Reactivity 3, mechanisms of chemical change, covering organic mechanisms and electrochemistry. Additional higher-level material sits inside each strand rather than separately. Confirm against your child's subject guide, which the IB coordinator can supply.

Can we fix organic chemistry in a few weeks before the exams?+

Partly, and only by narrowing. If the student learned mechanisms as sequences to memorise, the repair involves rebuilding how they think about electron density, nucleophiles and leaving groups, and that is slow conceptual work rather than revision. In a short window the honest plan is to secure the mechanism families that appear most in the papers they will sit and accept that complete coverage is not available. A tutor proposing to cover everything in six weeks has a plan that will not finish, and your child will have paid for the part that did.

How much of the chemistry grade can we influence before any exam?+

Twenty per cent, through the scientific investigation, which is marked out of 24 across four criteria of six marks each and submitted before the papers are sat. It is the only component entirely within the student's control while it is in progress, and most of its mark is determined by the research question rather than by the write-up, because a question with no cleanly measurable independent variable caps the analysis and therefore the conclusion. One session on question viability early is the best-value hour in the subject.

Will a tutor help write up the chemistry investigation?+

No, and nobody honest will. A tutor may explain what each of the four criteria asks for, interrogate the research question and the control of variables, check that uncertainties have been propagated correctly, and read the student's own draft to say which descriptor is not yet met. After a useful session the student holds specific problems to fix and the document contains nothing the tutor produced. One provider in this market sells completed internal assessments; using it triggers IB malpractice procedures against the student rather than the seller.

Should we tutor chemistry and physics at the same time?+

Rarely, and it is one of the five ways families here overspend. A Diploma student is carrying six subjects, Theory of Knowledge, an Extended Essay and CAS, plus mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in a Dubai school. Two tutored sciences a week on top of that usually produces two mediocre efforts at double the cost. Pick the science where the marked script shows the larger and more fixable gap, run a bounded block, review it, and only then consider the second.

Is it cheaper to start chemistry support in the first year?+

Substantially, and organic chemistry is the clearest case. A student who learns mechanisms correctly the first time needs no repair at all; a student who learns them as sequences and seeks help eighteen months later pays for the unlearning and the learning, at specialist rates, during the term when the investigation and mocks are also competing. The same logic applies to mole arithmetic: fixed in the summer before the Diploma it is cheap and at the mid band, fixed in the second year it is expensive and urgent.

Why does an in-home chemistry tutor cost more for the same hour?+

Because the published band of roughly AED 180 to 500 includes travel to your address, and from Muhaisnah that journey crosses Al Awir Road and the wider afternoon peak. You also pay in delivered minutes, since arrival slippage of ten to fifteen minutes is normal and is not refunded. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE at all, so for us this is a comparison rather than an option: home visiting is a service we run only in India, and in the UAE every lesson is live one-to-one over video.

Do we need Higher Level chemistry for medicine or pharmacy?+

It is required or strongly expected for medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and several biological and chemical engineering routes across most destinations, usually alongside biology or physics depending on the programme. Requirements are stated by subject and level on each university's own admissions page and that is the only place to check them; a tutoring page cannot responsibly generalise across countries. What we will say is that no tutoring is required for an application, and any provider implying otherwise is selling urgency rather than teaching.

How do we know the money is working rather than just being spent?+

Agree a narrow target at the start of the block and check it on a marked paper at the end. For chemistry good targets are specific: propagating a percentage uncertainty without prompting, matching answer length to the command term, or predicting an unfamiliar mechanism from electron density rather than from recall. Bad targets are improve in chemistry and cover the syllabus, because neither can be checked and both lead to monthly renewal out of uncertainty. That renewal habit, rather than the hourly rate, is where families here lose the most.

Diagnose first, then buy a block

Chemistry is the Diploma science where an unexamined weekly slot costs the most and achieves the least, because the same symptom can mean a four-session fix or a two-term rebuild. Send us the level, the most recent marked script and the school's weekly timetable, and we will tell you which it is, quote a block with a fixed length and a stated target, and offer a free trial lesson first. Nothing is charged before that lesson. If three sessions of diagnosis are all you should buy, that is what we will recommend, and if a cheaper band of tutor would serve the actual problem we will say so.
