IGCSE Maths Tutor in Muhaisnah

The honest version of what you are asking: is there an IGCSE maths tutor in Muhaisnah who knows the actual syllabus my child is entered for? Not maths in general. Cambridge 0580 Extended, or Pearson 4MA1 Higher, or Cambridge 0607, each with its own papers and calculator rules. This page shows you how to tell, what the tier decision does to the grade ceiling, and where Extended candidates in eastern Dubai lose marks. Lessons run one-to-one over live video.

IB & IGCSE in Muhaisnah

"Does anyone near me actually know this paper?"

That is the real question behind an IGCSE maths search in this part of Dubai, and it deserves a direct answer rather than reassurance. Plenty of people in and around Muhaisnah can teach mathematics. Far fewer can tell you, without looking it up, how many papers Cambridge 0580 Extended consists of, which of them permits a calculator under the current syllabus, how the grade range differs from the Core tier, or why a Pearson 4MA1 Higher candidate meets a different question style in the final twenty marks.

The distinction is not pedantry. By the spring of Year 11 the content is largely taught and the remaining marks live in paper structure: how long each paper is, what the question types look like, where the long-answer marks sit, what the formula provision is, how the examiner expects working to be presented. A tutor who teaches mathematics rather than the qualification will do a competent job on content and be of limited use in exactly the weeks that decide the grade.

Muhaisnah makes this harder than it needs to be. The schools this neighbourhood feeds sit in Al Qusais, Mirdif, Al Warqa, Al Garhoud and Dubai Festival City, and they use different boards, sometimes splitting by subject within one school. The local tutoring supply reflects the neighbourhood's dominant demand, which is Indian-curriculum mathematics, so an advertised IGCSE maths tutor here is frequently a CBSE specialist with IGCSE as a secondary line. That is not dishonest, but it is not what a Year 11 Extended candidate needs in March.

So this page is a verification tool first and a service page second. It lists the syllabus codes used in this catchment so you can match them against what your school has told you. It explains what the tier decision does to the grade your child can be awarded, which is the single most consequential fact nobody explains clearly. It names the topics where Extended marks actually go. And it gives you a thirty-minute test you can run on any tutor, including ours, that will tell you whether they know the paper or are improvising.

On delivery, so it is not buried: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visiting is a service we run only in India, and the published Dubai market rate for in-home visits is roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included if that is what you want. What we offer a Muhaisnah family is one-to-one tuition over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, from a tutor matched to the exact syllabus code, with a free trial lesson before anything is charged.

One thing no page can offer you, including this one, is a promise about the grade. The papers are marked externally, the tier was set by the school, and the performance on the day belongs to the student. What a syllabus specialist genuinely changes is the number of marks lost for reasons that have nothing to do with mathematical understanding, and in this qualification that number is reliably large enough to matter.

At a glance

  • Cambridge 0580, Cambridge 0607, Cambridge 0606 and Pearson 4MA1 are four different qualifications
  • The tier decision sets the grade ceiling and is made by the school, often a year ahead
  • UAE candidates sit the June and November series; the February/March series is India-only
  • Ask any tutor to describe the papers for your code before booking; a specialist does it in a minute
  • Past papers come from the board or the school, not from a tutor's paid pack
  • Lessons from us run online one-to-one; in-home visiting is an India-only service
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

IGCSE mathematics in this catchment is requested at three stages, and what the hour can achieve differs sharply between them.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Key Stage 3 mathematics

The years in which the tier decision is effectively being made, although nobody says so. Index laws, negative numbers, fractions, algebraic manipulation and proportional reasoning are the five foundations that determine whether a student can cope with Extended content later. None of them is externally examined, which is why gaps survive here.

Very few Muhaisnah families buy mathematics support at this stage and it is the cheapest, most effective point to do it. A Year 8 can genuinely manage a half past five session, which a Year 11 in this catchment usually cannot, and the slots are uncontested.

Y10Ages 14-15

Year 10 IGCSE mathematics

The first examined year, covering most of the syllabus content and confirming tier placement. The work available here is foundational: closing the algebra gap, building fluency, and establishing presentation habits before any of it is under time pressure. There is still room to influence the tier the student is entered for.

This is where we advise Muhaisnah families to spend if they are going to spend. A weekly hour through the autumn and spring of Year 10 costs less than a Year 11 intensive, has more to work with, and can still change the tier, which is the only thing that lifts the grade ceiling.

Y11Ages 15-16

Year 11 IGCSE mathematics

The examination year. The tier is fixed, the content is largely delivered, and the remaining marks are in technique: paper structure, timing, presentation of working, accuracy and the discipline of answering what was asked. Mock papers in the autumn are the best available diagnostic and are routinely under-used.

Most families here start in Year 11 and many start after the spring mocks, which is late. By then weekday slots have been taken by school revision clinics, so bookings from this catchment commonly end up at half past seven or on Saturday mornings.

RESITAny age after a first attempt

Resits and private candidates

UAE candidates sit the June and November series, so a June result can be improved in November. A resit involves re-entry through a centre, which for a private candidate means finding and booking a centre independently, with fees and deadlines set by the centre rather than by any tutor.

The decision window is the fortnight after results in August, not October. Eight focused weeks from early September are worth considerably more than twelve unfocused ones, and the entry deadline for the November series sits months before the exams, so the arrangement has to be made quickly.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the areas of IGCSE mathematics Muhaisnah enquiries name, with what goes wrong in each at the Extended or Higher tier.

Algebraic manipulation

Core and Extended

Expanding, factorising, rearranging and simplifying. The foundation everything else rests on, and the commonest undiagnosed gap in students who look competent on topic tests but collapse on a mixed paper. Index laws and surds are where it usually breaks.

Quadratics and simultaneous equations

Extended emphasis

Factorising, completing the square, the formula, and non-linear simultaneous systems. Students reach a correct solution and lose marks for not stating both roots or for abandoning exact form when the question required it.

Functions and graphs

Core and Extended

Sketching, transformations, gradients and areas under graphs. Marks go missing on sketches without intercepts or asymptotes labelled, and on reading values from a graph to the accuracy the question demands.

Trigonometry

Core and Extended

Right-angled work, then the sine and cosine rules and three-dimensional problems at the higher tier. Bearings are a reliable source of lost marks because students measure from the wrong reference direction.

Geometry and circle theorems

Extended emphasis

Angle reasoning, similarity, congruence and circle theorems. The marks are for the reason, not the answer: a correct angle with no theorem named scores less than a wrong angle with correct reasoning shown.

Mensuration

Core and Extended

Area, volume, surface area, arcs and sectors. Straightforward content under-practised because it looks easy, then costing marks on units, on rounding, and on compound shapes where one dimension has to be deduced.

Probability and statistics

Core and Extended

Tree diagrams, conditional probability, averages from grouped data, cumulative frequency and histograms. Histograms with unequal class widths are the single most reliable Extended loss, because frequency density is skipped in revision.

Ratio, proportion and rates

Core and Extended

Direct and inverse proportion, compound measures, percentage change and reverse percentages. Reverse percentage questions are where many students at this tier lose two marks they fully understood how to earn.

Vectors and transformations

Extended emphasis

Column vectors, magnitude, and describing transformations fully. A transformation described without its centre, scale factor or mirror line loses marks even when the drawing is perfect, which is purely a communication issue.

Sequences and algebraic fractions

Extended emphasis

Nth terms including quadratic sequences, and simplifying or solving algebraic fractions. Both reward systematic working, and both punish the student who tries to do several steps mentally to save time.

Problem solving across topics

Extended and Higher tiers

The final questions on a higher-tier paper combine topics without signalling which. Recognising which tool a question wants is a trainable skill distinct from knowing the tools, and it is what separates the top two grades from the next one down.

Calculator fluency

Papers permitting one

Statistical functions, exact-form entry, memory use and degree mode. Students lose both time and accuracy doing by hand what the permitted device does instantly, and this is fixable in a single session.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy IGCSE mathematics support, all delivered live over video by a tutor matched to the syllabus code.

Weekly hour, syllabus-matched

One tutor who teaches your child's code habitually, a fixed weekly slot, problems set and marked between sessions using the board's own published papers. The format that moves a grade across two terms, and the one we would recommend to a Year 10 family in this catchment.

  • Tutor matched to the exact code and tier
  • Board past papers used, linked not sold
  • Work marked between sessions
  • Reviewed at session six on a marked script

Mock-paper diagnostic, three sessions

Three sessions built around the student's own mock paper, establishing whether marks are being lost to content, method, accuracy or timing, and ending with a written view. Often concludes that a short targeted block is enough, which is a smaller sale than a weekly slot and more use to the family.

  • Starts from the student's actual mock script
  • Separates content gaps from technique losses
  • Ends with a written diagnosis, not a pitch
  • Can conclude no further tutoring is warranted

Pre-series technique block

Eight to ten weeks before a June or November series, two sessions a week on paper structure, timing and presentation. Each session ends with a timed section marked against the published scheme. Designed to finish before study leave rather than competing with it.

  • Timed sections every session, marked to the scheme
  • Paper structure and question-type recognition
  • Fixed start and end, total cost known upfront
  • Not a substitute for content never taught

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Muhaisnah

01

Which mathematics qualification is your child actually sitting?

Get this from the school's exams officer or the mathematics teacher, in writing, before you book anybody. Do not get it from the student: most cannot say, and the confident ones are sometimes wrong. Dubai schools use Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel, some use OxfordAQA, and a single school may use different boards for different subjects. Cambridge sciences with Pearson mathematics is a common pairing in this catchment and is exactly the configuration that produces a mismatched tutor.

The table below lists the codes you are most likely to be told, with the tiers each offers and what to confirm. Take the code to any tutor you are considering and ask them to describe its papers. A specialist answers immediately: number of papers, duration, calculator position, where the long-answer marks sit. A generalist says the boards are broadly similar, which is true of the content and false of the paper, and the paper is what March and April are about.

Two of these deserve a specific warning. Cambridge 0607 International Mathematics is a different syllabus from 0580 with a different assessment design, and a tutor who assumes 0580 will mislead a 0607 candidate about what the paper asks for. And Cambridge 0606 Additional Mathematics is a genuinely harder qualification taken alongside the main one by stronger candidates; if your child has been entered for it late, the useful question is whether the entry is appropriate rather than how to revise for it.

Paper numbers, durations and calculator rules are revised when a syllabus is reissued, so confirm the current detail against the board's published syllabus for your child's cohort rather than against anything on a tutoring page, including this one. What does not change is the principle: the code is the unit of matching, and a tutor who cannot describe your code's papers should not be teaching your child in Year 11.

The tier decision and the grade ceiling nobody explains

This is the fact that changes what a family should buy and it is rarely stated plainly. Tiered mathematics qualifications do not award the full grade range on both tiers. A Core or Foundation entry caps the grade that can be awarded, regardless of how well the student performs. A student who scores extremely highly on a Core paper receives the top grade available on that tier, not the top grade available in the qualification.

That has two consequences. First, no amount of tutoring lifts a grade above the ceiling of the tier the student is entered for, so if the target grade sits above that ceiling the conversation is about the entry and not about tuition. Second, a confident Core grade is a genuinely good outcome for a student who would have struggled on Extended, and families who force an Extended entry on a borderline student frequently end up with a worse result than the Core entry would have produced.

The decision belongs to the school, is based on evidence from the student's work, and is usually taken well before Year 11. The honest sequence for a Muhaisnah family who wants to change it is to ask the mathematics teacher two questions: what evidence would change the entry, and by what date does the decision have to be made? Then work on exactly that evidence. A tutor who promises to move a child up a tier without having seen a marked script is guessing.

The table sets out the comparison across what actually differs, and the last column is what matters for planning. Note the tutoring implication is not simply more hours for the higher tier: the higher tier needs different work, aimed at multi-topic problem solving and at the extended questions that only appear on that paper.

03

Where higher-tier marks actually go in this catchment

  • Name the circle theorem; the reason carries the mark, not the angle
  • Describe transformations fully: type, centre, scale factor, mirror line
  • Histograms with unequal widths need frequency density every time
  • Reverse percentages: never apply a forward calculation
  • Keep intermediate values unrounded; check the accuracy the question demands
  • An incomplete mock is a pacing problem, not a content problem

Mock scripts from students in this catchment show the same losses year after year, and almost none of them are about not knowing the mathematics. The largest single category is reasoning not shown. Circle theorem questions award marks for naming the theorem; a correct angle with no reason attached loses them. Transformation questions award marks for a complete description; a perfect drawing with no centre or scale factor stated loses them. Both are communication failures dressed up as mathematics failures.

The second category is specific topics that are systematically under-revised because they look like minor content. Histograms with unequal class widths, where frequency density is the whole question. Reverse percentages, where students apply a forward calculation. Bearings, measured from the wrong reference direction. Compound and inverse proportion. Algebraic fractions, where a student who can simplify will not combine. Each is a small number of marks and together they are a grade.

The third category is accuracy and rounding. Carrying an approximated intermediate value forward converts correct method into a wrong answer. Giving a final answer to three significant figures when the question asked for two decimal places loses a mark the mathematics had earned. Leaving an answer in decimal form when exact form was required does the same.

The fourth is timing, and it is the one most visible on a mock script: a student who has answered everything up to a point and then produced fragments. That is a pacing problem and it has a specific remedy, which is timed sections rather than untimed practice. Topic revision does not fix it, and families who respond to an incomplete mock by buying more content coverage are solving the wrong problem at considerable expense.

04

Thirty minutes that prove whether a tutor knows the paper

Run this on any tutor, local or online, and on us. It needs no mathematical knowledge from you and it is far more informative than a credential list. Five requests, in order, and note that each one has a right answer the tutor either produces instantly or does not.

One: describe the papers for my child's syllabus code, with tiers, durations and calculator positions. Two: name three topics that appear on the higher tier and not on the lower one. Three: show me, on my child's mock script, three marks lost for a reason that is not about understanding the mathematics. Four: what will you set between sessions, and will you mark it before the next one? Five: what should my child be able to do after six sessions that they cannot do today?

The third request is the strongest filter in the list, because it cannot be prepared for. A tutor who knows the qualification will find those three marks in two minutes and explain each one in a sentence. A tutor who teaches mathematics in general will talk about the topics the student got wrong, which is a different and much less useful answer. The distinction will be obvious to you even if you cannot do the mathematics yourself.

The fifth request tests whether the tutor plans or improvises. A specialist narrows it: not "improve in maths" but "describe transformations completely without being prompted, and handle a histogram with unequal class widths". That narrowness is what makes a review at session six possible, and a tutor who will not narrow it has given you no way to evaluate what you are about to pay for.

05

Year 10 or Year 11: when the hour is actually worth buying

Almost all the demand in this catchment arrives in Year 11, and almost all the value sits in Year 10. The reason is structural rather than motivational. In Year 10 the tier is still movable, the content is still being taught for the first time, the student is less tired, and the evening slots are uncontested. In Year 11 the tier is fixed, the content is largely delivered, and the available work is technique within a ceiling somebody else set.

That does not make Year 11 support pointless. Technique work is real and it moves grades, particularly for a student whose mock script shows the losses described earlier. But it is a narrower product and it should be bought as a bounded block with a stated target, not as an open-ended weekly slot renewed out of anxiety. A family spending across a whole Year 11 without a review point is usually paying for reassurance.

The highest-value purchase in this catchment, if a family is going to buy anything, is a weekly hour through the autumn and spring of Year 10 aimed at algebraic fluency and at presentation habits. Both transfer to every subsequent paper. Both are cheap to fix at that stage and expensive to fix later. And in a student who is borderline between tiers, both are exactly the evidence the school needs to see before an entry decision.

For Key Stage 3 the same logic goes further back and almost nobody acts on it. Index laws, negative numbers, fractions and proportional reasoning are the four things that decide whether Extended content is accessible, and they can be rebuilt in a term at a lower rate with no examination pressure. A family who fixes those in Year 8 generally never buys mathematics tutoring again.

06

Resits, the November series and private candidates

UAE candidates sit the June and November series, which means a June result can be improved in the same calendar year rather than waiting twelve months. That is a genuine option and families in this catchment under-use it, usually because the decision window is misunderstood. The useful fortnight is immediately after results in August, not October, because entries close months before the exams and because eight focused weeks from early September are worth more than twelve drifting ones.

Do not use any February or March dates you find quoted. The Cambridge February/March series is offered to India only; UAE candidates sit June and November. A page quoting a February exam window or a November entry deadline for a March series to a Dubai parent is giving them a date that is wrong for their country, and it is the kind of error a family acts on.

On verifiable dates: Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May/June and November each year, and the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. Pearson's June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct timetable version for your zone, because it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam otherwise.

If the student has left the school that entered them, they become a private candidate, which changes the logistics rather than the qualification. A centre has to be found and booked independently, and the centre sets its own fees and deadlines. Those figures should come from the centre, not from a tutoring page: we will not quote an entry fee we cannot source. The school's exams officer is the best first call even after a student has left, because they will know which local centres accept private candidates.

07

What syllabus-specific maths support costs here

Mathematics is the most heavily tutored subject in Dubai, which means supply is good and rates sit mid-band rather than at scarcity levels. The published figures: qualified subject tutors working online at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with one Dubai agency publishing IGCSE from AED 150. Specialists across IB, IGCSE and A Level at roughly AED 200 to 450 and above. Budget online provision from roughly AED 33 to 65 depending on the provider. In-home visits at roughly AED 180 to 500 with travel included.

What the extra buys at the specialist end, in this subject specifically, is paper knowledge rather than mathematical knowledge. Anybody in the qualified band can teach circle theorems. Fewer can look at a mock script and identify in two minutes that the student is losing reasoning marks rather than getting angles wrong, and fewer still know the question-type patterns of one particular code well enough to predict where the student will next lose two marks. In Year 10 that premium is optional. In the spring of Year 11 it is most of the value.

The cheapest effective purchase in this catchment is the three-session mock diagnostic, because it frequently concludes that a short block is sufficient. The most expensive is an open-ended Year 11 weekly slot with no stated target, renewed monthly; published monthly estimates for specialist exam-year support run roughly AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for a weekly hour, so a year of that unevaluated is a substantial sum.

Our own figure is agreed at the consultation, once the code, tier and cadence are known, and we sit in the qualified-specialist part of those bands rather than the budget part. The trial lesson is free and nothing is charged before it. If the mock diagnostic says a bounded block will do, we will quote the block rather than the year, which is the smaller sale and the right advice.

Starting, with the code in hand

Send three things and the match is right first time. The syllabus code and tier from the school in writing. The most recent mock or marked paper, because that is where a specialist finds the real problem. And the school's weekly timetable, including which afternoons finish late, so the slot is chosen rather than assumed.

We propose a tutor who teaches that code habitually and a free trial lesson in a slot the school run can survive. In this catchment that usually means six o'clock or half past seven on a weekday, or half past nine on a Saturday. Use the trial to run the five requests from the thirty-minute test, especially the third one about marks lost on the student's own script.

Then agree one narrow target for session six, visible in a marked paper. Describing transformations completely without prompting. Handling a histogram with unequal class widths. Completing a paper section in the time allowed without fragments at the end. At session six you look at a script and decide: continue, change the tutor, change the diagnosis, or stop.

Finally, the advice we would give a Muhaisnah family regardless of whether they use us. If your child is in Year 10, buy the autumn. If they are in Year 11 and the mocks are done, buy the diagnostic before you buy any hours. If the target grade sits above the tier ceiling, go and talk to the mathematics teacher before you spend anything at all, because that conversation is free and no tutor can substitute for it.

Where we tutor

Where IGCSE mathematics is actually taught around Muhaisnah

These communities define the catchment, and between them they use several different mathematics syllabuses, which is exactly why matching on the code matters.

Muhaisnah

No British-curriculum secondary provision inside the neighbourhood, so every IGCSE mathematics student here is entered through a school elsewhere, often on a board the family has never been told the name of.

Al Qusais

The nearest school-dense district, with both British and Indian provision and a correspondingly mixed board picture. Two schools a kilometre apart can be using different mathematics syllabuses.

Mirdif

British and IB provision east of Muhaisnah. Several schools here run Pearson Edexcel for mathematics alongside Cambridge sciences, which is precisely the split that catches tutors out.

Al Warqa

Substantial Indian-curriculum provision with some British schools. The local tutoring supply here is strong on CBSE mathematics and thin on IGCSE paper technique.

Al Garhoud

Older established schools with a short run from Muhaisnah. The earliest workable session slot in this cluster, which matters for mathematics specifically.

Dubai Festival City

Both IGCSE and IB provision, so students from the same community can be sitting entirely different mathematics qualifications in the same year group.

Al Nahda

Boundary community with the longest afternoon journeys in this catchment. Mathematics sessions here work at half past seven and rarely earlier.

Al Mizhar

Villa district beyond Mirdif with very little local tutoring supply of any kind, which makes online matching the only realistic route to a syllabus specialist.

Nad Al Hamar

Short runs to Festival City and Rashidiya schools, so a half past five mathematics slot genuinely holds here when it fails elsewhere in the cluster.

International City

Long journeys and a price-sensitive population. Saturday morning mathematics sessions are the format that survives here, and families who accept that early keep continuity.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the code and tier in writing

From the exams officer or the mathematics teacher, not from the student. Cambridge 0580, Cambridge 0607, Pearson 4MA1 and OxfordAQA are different qualifications with different papers, and matching on "maths" rather than on the code is how a family wastes a term.

  2. 02

    Send the mock script

The most recent marked paper is the single most useful document you can send. A specialist will find three marks lost for reasons unrelated to mathematical understanding within two minutes, and those three usually point at the whole plan.

  3. 03

Choose the hour against the timetable

Send the school's weekly schedule including late afternoons. In this catchment six o'clock and half past seven hold and half past four does not, and mathematics is the subject least tolerant of a student who has just walked through the door.

  4. 04

Run the thirty-minute test on the free trial

Ask the tutor to describe your code's papers, name three higher-tier-only topics, and find three technique losses on the mock script. A specialist does all three inside half an hour, and nothing is charged for the lesson either way.

  5. 05

Agree one narrow target, review at session six

Something checkable in a marked paper: complete transformation descriptions, frequency density on histograms, or finishing a section in the time allowed. Then look at the script and decide rather than drifting into a seventh payment.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on the code, not the subject

A tutor is only offered for a syllabus they teach habitually, and is asked to describe its papers, tiers and calculator positions before the booking is confirmed. The Cambridge-sciences-with-Pearson-maths split is common in this catchment and it catches generalists out.

The tier ceiling stated upfront

If the target grade sits above the ceiling of the tier your child is entered for, no amount of tuition reaches it and the conversation belongs with the school. We say that before taking a booking rather than after six months of it.

Diagnosis from a script, not a conversation

The three-session mock diagnostic exists because content gaps, method losses, accuracy losses and pacing failures look identical when described in words and completely different on a marked paper. Buying hours before that distinction is made is how money is wasted here.

Board material linked, never sold

Past papers, mark schemes and syllabus documents come from the board or the school. We will not reproduce or supply them as downloads, because reproducing them is a copyright matter, and any provider charging for a pack should be asked where it came from.

UAE series dates, correctly

UAE candidates sit June and November. The February/March series is offered to India only, and quoting its deadlines to a Dubai parent hands them a date that is wrong for their country. We link the board's live timetable rather than restating dates.

We will point you at the free option

If the school runs its own revision clinic in mathematics, it is free and aligned to the school's own entries, and competing with it wastes your money. If the tier is the problem, the mathematics teacher is the person to see. Both conversations cost us a booking.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Muhaisnah: your questions answered

Is there an IGCSE maths tutor in Muhaisnah who knows our exact syllabus?+

There are maths tutors who will travel here, but the local supply reflects the neighbourhood's dominant demand, which is Indian-curriculum mathematics, so an advertised IGCSE tutor is often a CBSE specialist with IGCSE as a second line. That is adequate for content and thin for paper technique, which is what the spring of Year 11 is about. IB Gram matches on the syllabus code rather than on proximity and teaches one-to-one over live video; we do not send tutors to UAE addresses at all. Ask any tutor to describe your code's papers before booking.

What is the difference between Cambridge 0580 and 0607?+

They are different syllabuses with different assessment designs, both offering Core and Extended tiers. A tutor who assumes 0580 will mislead a 0607 candidate about what the papers ask for and how the questions are structured, even though much of the content overlaps. The practical step is to confirm which code your child is entered for with the exams officer, in writing, and then to ask any prospective tutor to describe that code's papers specifically. Confirm current paper numbers and durations against the board's published syllabus for your child's cohort.

Can tutoring get my child a grade above their tier?+

No. Tiered mathematics qualifications cap the grade awarded on the lower tier, so a student entered for Core or Foundation receives at most the top grade available on that tier however well they perform. If your target grade sits above that cap, the conversation is about the entry rather than about tuition, and it belongs with the mathematics teacher. Ask them two questions: what evidence would change the entry, and by what date must the decision be made. Then work on exactly that evidence rather than on general improvement.

Is a confident Core grade worse than a shaky Extended grade?+

Often it is better, and families underweight this. A student who would be pressured throughout an Extended paper and finish in fragments frequently ends up below where a secure Core entry would have placed them. The tier is a judgement about what the student can sustain under timed conditions, not a verdict on their ability. Look at marked mock scripts rather than at aspiration: if the student is losing marks to pace across the whole paper, the higher tier will amplify that rather than reward the extra content.

Which IGCSE maths topics do students here lose the most marks on?+

Four recur every year in mock scripts from this catchment. Histograms with unequal class widths, where frequency density is the whole question and is routinely skipped in revision. Reverse percentages, where a forward calculation gets applied. Circle theorems, where the mark is for naming the theorem and a correct angle with no reason scores less. And transformations described without a centre, scale factor or mirror line. Each is a small number of marks, all four are fixable within weeks, and together they are commonly a grade.

My child's mock paper stopped halfway. What does that mean?+

It is a pacing problem, not a content problem, and the two need opposite responses. A script with everything attempted and scattered errors says content and method; a script answered correctly up to a point and then fragmentary says the student cannot sustain the required rate. Buying more topic coverage for the second case is solving the wrong problem at considerable expense. The remedy is timed sections every session, marked to the published scheme, until the student can complete a full paper section inside the allowance.

How can I test a maths tutor if I do not know the maths myself?+

Make three requests that need no mathematics from you. Ask them to describe the papers for your child's syllabus code with tiers, durations and calculator positions. Ask them to name three topics that appear on the higher tier and not the lower one. Then hand them your child's mock script and ask them to find three marks lost for a reason that is not about understanding the mathematics. The third cannot be prepared for, and a specialist does it in two minutes while a generalist talks about the topics the student got wrong.

Is Year 10 or Year 11 the better time to buy maths support?+

Year 10, decisively, and almost all the demand arrives in Year 11. In Year 10 the tier is still movable, the content is being taught for the first time, the student is less tired and the evening slots are uncontested. In Year 11 the tier is fixed and the available work is technique inside a ceiling somebody else set. Year 11 support is still real, but it should be bought as a bounded block with a stated target rather than as an open-ended weekly slot renewed out of anxiety.

Should my child retake IGCSE maths in the November series?+

It is a genuine option because UAE candidates sit both June and November, and families here under-use it. The decision window is the fortnight after results in August rather than October, because entries close months before the exams and eight focused weeks from early September beat twelve drifting ones. Do not use any February or March dates you find quoted: that series is offered to India only. Entry logistics and fees come from the centre and the exams officer, not from a tutoring page.

What happens if my child has left the school that entered them?+

They become a private candidate, which changes the logistics rather than the qualification. A centre has to be found and booked independently, and the centre sets its own fees and deadlines. The school's exams officer is still the best first call, even after a student has left, because they will know which local centres accept private candidates. We will not quote an entry fee, because that figure belongs to the centre and varies, and a number we cannot source is worse than no number.

Does Additional Mathematics 0606 need a different tutor?+

Usually yes, and the first question is whether the entry is appropriate at all. Cambridge 0606 is a genuinely harder qualification taken alongside the main mathematics course by stronger candidates, and a student entered for it late with a shaky Extended foundation is being asked to run before walking. Fewer tutors cover it properly. If your child has been entered recently and is struggling, consolidating the main syllabus usually produces a better overall outcome than splitting attention across both.

How much should syllabus-specific maths support cost in eastern Dubai?+

Published Dubai figures put qualified online subject tutors at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with one agency publishing IGCSE from AED 150, and specialists across IGCSE and A Level at roughly AED 200 to 450 and above. In-home visits are quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 with travel included. Mathematics is well supplied here, so rates sit mid-band rather than at scarcity levels. What the specialist premium buys in this subject is paper knowledge rather than mathematical knowledge, which matters most in the final two terms.

Will a tutor supply past papers and mark schemes?+

A tutor should be pointing you to the board's published material or working from what the school supplies, not selling a pack. Cambridge and Pearson publish syllabus documents and past papers, and the school has access to more. We will not reproduce or distribute board material as downloads, because reproducing it is a copyright matter and, for unreleased content, worse. If a provider is charging for a past-paper bundle, ask where it came from and whether they are permitted to distribute it before paying for it.

Can we do maths sessions in the school holidays instead of term time?+

Holidays are often the best time for foundational work, and we would encourage it for a Year 9 or Year 10 student with an algebra gap. There is no competing homework, no fatigue from the school run, and the student can rebuild index laws and manipulation without also keeping up with the current unit. For Year 11 technique work the opposite is true: timed practice is most useful when it sits alongside the school's own mock and revision schedule, so term time is the better fit.

Start with the code, not the search

One email to your child's school settles the thing that matters most: the syllabus code and the tier. With those in hand you can test any tutor in thirty minutes and you will know whether they teach the qualification or just the subject. Send us the code, the most recent mock script and the school's weekly timetable, and we will come back with a tutor who teaches that code habitually and a free trial lesson in an hour the school run can survive. Nothing is charged before the trial, and if the mock says a three-session diagnostic is all you need, that is what we will quote.
