IGCSE Tutor near me in Muhaisnah

Families searching for an IGCSE tutor near me in Muhaisnah usually want a number before they want a name. This page gives the numbers first: what the Dubai market charges in AED at each tier, with the sources, then where that money most often goes to waste in this catchment. Lessons from us run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and every figure below belongs to the provider who published it rather than to us.

IB & IGCSE in Muhaisnah

The numbers first, then where the money leaks

Almost every IGCSE tutoring page in this market refuses to publish a price. The research behind these pages found that three of the six strongest-ranking competitor pages quote no figure at all, and that the two which do quote in US dollars, which is not the currency a Dubai family transacts in. One agency's own frequently-asked-questions section asks what tutoring costs and then declines to answer it. So the first thing this page does is put the dirham figures on the screen, attributed, with the month they were collected.

Start at the bottom of the market rather than the top, because that is where most Muhaisnah families start. Budget online provision, generally university students or recent graduates, is published from AED 45 to 65 by one Dubai content-led provider and from roughly AED 33 to 52 by a regional platform. That tier buys content help and homework supervision. It does not reliably buy somebody who knows what Cambridge 0580 Paper 4 looks like or why a student is losing presentation marks on a graph.

The next band up is where most IGCSE tutoring actually transacts. Qualified subject tutors working online sit roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with one Dubai agency publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. In-home one-to-one visits are quoted higher, roughly AED 180 to 500 with travel built in: Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table puts the range at 180 to 350, and independent home tutors advertise 200 to 500. Specialists in IB, IGCSE and A Level run AED 200 to 450 and above, with one UK agency publishing AED 270, and a premium examiner-branded provider publishing AED 650.

Monthly, the published packages tell the same story from a different angle: AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Those are the brackets a Muhaisnah family is choosing between, and the gap between the top and bottom of them is a factor of eight.

Which is why the second half of this page is about waste rather than price. A factor of eight in the rate does not produce a factor of eight in the result, and the families who get least for their money in this catchment are rarely the ones who paid least per hour. They are the ones who bought three subjects at once, or started in March, or paid for a tutor teaching the wrong syllabus code, or kept a slot the school run had already killed. Each of those is avoidable and none of them is about the rate.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Cost per grade varies enormously by stage, and the cheapest intervention is almost always the earliest one. Here is how the spend behaves across a British-curriculum school career in this catchment.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Key Stage 3

No external examination, which makes this the cheapest and least popular time to buy support. Rates sit at the lower end of every published band because the content is less specialised. A gap in algebraic manipulation or written structure fixed here costs a fraction of what the same gap costs once it is carrying an IGCSE grade.

Very few Muhaisnah families buy tutoring at this stage, and the ones who do spend less overall across the five years than those who start in Year 11. Slots are also easier: a Year 8 can genuinely manage a 5.30pm session, which a Year 11 in this catchment usually cannot.

Y10Ages 14-15

Year 10

The first IGCSE year, and the point where tiering decisions in mathematics and the sciences are made or confirmed. Rates are mid-band because the specialism required is real but the pressure premium has not arrived. The work available here is foundational rather than remedial, which is why it moves grades more cheaply.

This is where we would advise a Muhaisnah family to spend if they are going to spend at all. One subject, one weekly slot through the autumn and spring, costs less than a Year 11 intensive and has a larger effect, because the tier decision it influences sets the grade ceiling.

Y11Ages 15-16

Year 11

The examination year, when demand peaks and so do rates at the specialist end. Published monthly estimates for specialist exam-year support run AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for a weekly hour. The work is necessarily narrower: technique, pacing and paper structure rather than new content, because there is no time for foundations.

Most families in this catchment start here, which is why most of them pay more per grade than they needed to. Weekday slots are also scarce by January because school revision clinics have taken them, so Year 11 bookings frequently end up at 7.30pm or on Saturday mornings.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

AS and A Level

Specialist rates apply throughout, and the hours required per subject are higher than at IGCSE because the independent practice load roughly doubles. Published specialist bands of AED 200 to 450 and above are the realistic planning figure, with examiner-branded provision higher still.

Sixth-form students in eastern Dubai often have free periods, which opens up morning and early-afternoon slots nobody competes for. That is worth money: an uncontested slot is easier to keep, and a slot that is kept for twenty-eight weeks is worth more than a better-timed one that collapses.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Cost per grade is not uniform across subjects. These are the IGCSE courses Muhaisnah families ask about, with a note on where the hours actually go.

Mathematics, Extended

Cambridge 0580 or Pearson 4MA1

The most commonly tutored subject in this catchment and among the most efficient per hour, because the losses are specific and diagnosable. Unlabelled working, bearings taken from the wrong reference, transformations described without being named. A term of weekly work usually shows.

Mathematics, Core

Cambridge 0580 Core tier

Cheaper to support than Extended and often better value, because the grade ceiling makes the target clear. The question worth asking before spending is whether the tier itself is right, which the school decides and which no amount of tutoring overrides late.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 or Pearson 4PH1

The most requested science from this catchment and the one where hours multiply fastest, because electricity and waves both need rebuilding when they go wrong. Expect a longer block here than in mathematics for the same grade movement.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 or Pearson 4CH1

Moles and electrolysis absorb time; organic families are quick wins by comparison. A student who can write equations but cannot explain a trend is a two-month job, not a two-week one, and pricing a block honestly means saying so.

Biology

Cambridge 0610 or Pearson 4BI1

Deceptively cheap to support because the content feels familiar, and the marks sit in command-term discipline rather than knowledge. Often the fastest grade movement available per dirham spent, provided the tutor works on answer shape rather than content coverage.

Coordinated or Combined Science

Cambridge 0654 or 0653; Pearson 4SD0

One booking covering three sciences looks economical and frequently is not, because the weak strand still needs its own attention. Establish which of the three is costing the grade before buying hours across all of them.

English Language

Cambridge 0500, 0510 or 0511; Pearson 4EA1

Directed writing and unseen analysis. Among the best value per hour for students who speak another language at home, because the fixable issue is usually structure and planning rather than vocabulary, and structure teaches quickly.

English Literature

IGCSE set texts

Expensive to tutor badly and efficient to tutor well. Hours spent re-reading texts are wasted; hours spent on integrating quotation into argument and writing about language rather than plot move bands. Ask any tutor which of those they plan to do.

Economics and Business Studies

Cambridge 0455 and 0450

Evaluation technique is the whole game in the spring of Year 11, and it is a narrow, teachable skill. Four to six sessions aimed at eight-mark question structure is usually a better purchase than a term of content coverage.

Computer Science

Cambridge 0478 or Pearson 4CP0

Pseudocode and trace tables are drillable in a handful of sessions, which makes targeted work unusually good value. Open-ended programming practice is not what the paper rewards, so a tutor proposing project work is spending your money on the wrong thing.

Geography and History

Cambridge 0460 and 0470

Case-study recall with figures attached, and in History provenance reasoning on sources. Both reward short, frequent work over long blocks, so a weekly hour across two terms outperforms an intensive in the final month.

Additional Mathematics

Cambridge 0606

Specialist rates apply and fewer tutors cover it properly. Before buying hours, establish whether the entry is appropriate at all, because a student entered late for 0606 may be better served by consolidating 0580 Extended.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

The same money buys very different things depending on format. Three options, all delivered live over video, priced by specialism rather than distance.

Weekly hour, one subject

The lowest total spend that reliably moves a grade. One subject, one tutor, a fixed weekly slot across a term, with written work set and marked between sessions. Published monthly estimates for a weekly hour range from roughly AED 240 to 600 at the budget end up to AED 1,000 and above for specialist exam-year support.

  • Lowest commitment that still produces evidence
  • Work set between sessions so no hour starts cold
  • Reviewed at session six against marked work
  • Second subject only after the first has moved

Pre-series block, eight to ten weeks

Two sessions a week across a fixed window before a June or November series, built on timed past-paper sections rather than new content. Higher weekly spend, shorter total duration, and a clearer end point. Suited to a student whose marked papers show the content is known and the timing collapses.

  • Fixed start and end, so the total cost is known upfront
  • Timed sections marked against the published scheme
  • Ends before study leave rather than running into it
  • Not a substitute for foundations that were never built

Short diagnostic block, three sessions

For families who are not sure tutoring is the right purchase. Three sessions aimed at establishing what is actually wrong, ending with a written view of whether the problem is content, technique, tiering or workload. Sometimes the conclusion is that the school's own provision is the better route and no further spend is needed.

  • Deliberately short and bounded
  • Ends with a diagnosis, not a sales conversation
  • Can conclude that no further tutoring is warranted
  • Cheapest way to avoid buying the wrong thing

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Muhaisnah

01

Published Dubai rates in AED, cheapest tier first

Here is the market, ordered from the bottom up, so you can see where your budget actually sits rather than being anchored by a premium headline. Each row carries the provider or rate table that published the figure and the indicative monthly cost of one session a week at that rate. All of it was collected in October 2026 and all of it belongs to the provider named, not to IB Gram.

The jump that matters is between the first and second rows. Moving from the budget tier to a qualified subject tutor roughly triples the hourly rate, and it is the only step in the table that reliably changes what happens in the lesson. The steps above it buy scarcity, brand and sometimes examiner experience; they do not automatically buy a better teacher for a Year 10 student who cannot plot a graph to scale.

Note what the in-home row contains. The AED 180 to 500 band includes the tutor's travel, so part of what you are buying is a drive to Muhaisnah through the Al Ittihad Road peak. If you are comparing it against the qualified online row, the honest comparison is between AED 150 to 300 and AED 180 to 500 for the same teacher quality, and the difference is logistics rather than teaching.

On our own pricing: IB Gram does not publish a rate card on these pages, and we are explicit about why. The right figure depends on subject, tier, cadence and whether the work is a weekly slot or a bounded block, and a single number would be misleading for most of the families reading it. We sit in the qualified-specialist part of this table rather than the budget part, the trial lesson is free, and the figure is agreed at the consultation before anything is charged.

Five ways families in this catchment overspend

  • Three subjects at once: triple cost, usually less effect than one done properly
  • Starting in March: worse product, higher price, fewer slots
  • Wrong syllabus code: the paper-structure work is wasted
  • A slot the commute defeats: paying sixty minutes for forty
  • Specialist rates for homework supervision: a different purchase entirely

None of these is about the rate, and all five are common enough that we see them every intake. First, buying three subjects at once. A Year 11 carrying nine IGCSE subjects plus mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies has very little slack, and three tutored hours a week usually produces three mediocre efforts rather than one good one. The cost is tripled and the effect is often smaller.

Second, starting in March. By the spring of Year 11 the content window has closed, the available work is technique only, and the specialist slots are gone. The identical intervention bought in the previous autumn costs less per hour, has more to work with, and does not compete with the school's own revision programme. Families who start late are buying a worse product at a higher price.

Third, paying for the wrong syllabus. A tutor teaching Cambridge 0580 to a student entered for Pearson 4MA1 is not useless, but a material share of the final weeks is about paper structure and formula provision, and that part is wasted. Establish the code before the first booking, from the school rather than from the student.

Fourth, keeping a slot the school run has already killed. A 4.30pm booking that the student arrives late and flustered to delivers perhaps forty useful minutes out of sixty, every week, and the family pays for all sixty. Fifth, paying for homework supervision at a specialist rate. If what your child needs is somebody sitting with them while they work, that is a real need and it is available far cheaper than a subject specialist; the two are different purchases and conflating them is expensive.

03

Hourly, monthly package or bounded block: the same money, bought differently

How you buy changes the real cost more than most families expect, and the published packages in this market are not comparable without doing arithmetic. An AED 799 monthly package of eight online sessions works out around AED 100 a session, which looks excellent until you ask how long a session is and what happens to unused sessions at the end of the month. A high hourly rate with no commitment can be cheaper in total if the engagement is short and bounded.

The table sets out the structures on offer in this market, what each really costs across a term, and the question to ask before signing. The recurring trap is the monthly package with expiring sessions: a Dubai family will miss sessions, for school trips, travel over Eid, and illness, and a package that does not roll over converts missed lessons into pure cost.

The second trap is the discount for volume bought upfront. Twenty hours purchased at a lower rate is a saving only if all twenty hours are the right hours. Buying twenty before you know whether the match works is how families end up persisting with a tutor they would otherwise have changed in week two, which is the most expensive outcome in this entire page.

Our own structure is deliberately dull: start with a free trial, then a weekly slot with no upfront block, reviewed at session six. If you want a bounded intensive before a series, that is quoted as a block with a fixed start and end so the total is known in advance. We do not sell expiring session bundles, and we would rather you kept the right to leave at session two than bought a discount that makes leaving expensive.

Tutoring in context: what else a Muhaisnah family is already paying

A tutoring decision is never made in isolation. It sits on top of school fees, transport, uniform, exam entry and whatever else the year demands, and the useful question is not whether tutoring is expensive in the abstract but whether it is the best available use of the next AED 1,000 in this particular year. Framing it that way changes what families buy, usually for the better.

One piece of good news on the backdrop: KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For a family with two children in private school, a flat fee year is a meaningful change in what is available for everything else.

The table below puts tutoring configurations alongside each other in monthly and annual terms so the comparison is concrete. It deliberately does not invent school fee figures: those vary enormously by school and KHDA publishes them per school, so look up your own. Exam entry costs as a private candidate likewise vary by centre and should come from your school's exams officer or the centre directly rather than from any tutoring page.

What the table tends to show families in this catchment is that the realistic choice is not between tutoring and no tutoring. It is between one subject supported properly for two terms and three subjects supported thinly for one, at a similar total. The first produces evidence you can act on. The second produces a feeling that something was done.

One-to-one, small group or tuition centre: what you give up at each price

The cheapest way to reduce an hourly rate is to share it, and in this catchment that usually means a small group or a tuition centre class. Both are legitimate and both cost something other than money. Knowing what is being given up makes the decision honest rather than purely financial.

In a group of four, the teaching is aimed at the group's modal difficulty. For a student whose problem is the same as everybody else's, that is efficient and the saving is real. For a student losing marks for an idiosyncratic reason, which is most students by Year 11, group teaching addresses somebody else's problem at a quarter of the price. The marginal value of the hour drops much faster than the rate does.

A tuition centre adds structure, a fixed timetable and premises, and for some families that structure is exactly what was missing. Note that a tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal from an individual tutor: it requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. A centre should be able to evidence that; an individual tutor needs the MoHRE private tuition work permit instead.

Our position is that one-to-one is the right purchase when the problem is specific, and that we would rather tell a family their child's difficulty is generic and a group would serve them better. The table sets out the trade-offs so you can judge. What we would avoid in all cases is a group sold at a one-to-one price, which does exist in this market and is the worst value available.

The extras that are not in the hourly rate

  • Is an hour sixty minutes, and is travel inside or outside the quoted rate?
  • Are past papers and syllabus documents linked from the board rather than sold to you?
  • Is work set between sessions marked, and by whom, and is that included?
  • What is the cancellation notice, in writing, before the first booking?
  • Does the quoted figure include VAT? Ask; do not assume either way

Ask about these before the first session, because each one has caught families in this catchment. Session length: an hour is not always sixty minutes, and a fifty-minute hour at AED 250 is a different rate from the one quoted. Travel for in-home work: usually included in the band but not always, and a tutor quoting AED 200 plus travel is quoting a different number from one quoting AED 250 inclusive.

Materials and past papers. A tutor should be using the board's own published papers and syllabus documents, which are freely available through the school or the board's site, and should be linking you to them rather than selling a pack. We will not reproduce or supply IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads, because reproducing them is a copyright matter. Referencing and linking is the correct approach and it costs nothing.

Marking and feedback between sessions. Some providers include it, some charge for it, and some do not do it at all. It matters: a written task marked before the next session is most of what makes a weekly slot work, and a tutor who only teaches inside the hour is selling you half the product. Ask explicitly whether work set between sessions is marked and by whom.

Finally, cancellation terms and VAT treatment. Agree the notice period in writing before you start, because a Dubai family will need to move sessions. On tax: we will not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees as a general fact, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority citation rather than an opinion on a tutoring page. What any provider should tell you plainly is whether the price they quoted you includes VAT, and you are entitled to ask.

07

How long before a spend can fairly be judged

Six sessions, measured against something agreed in advance. Any shorter and you are judging rapport; any longer and you are paying to postpone a decision. What makes six sessions sufficient is naming the target at the start in terms you can check from the student's own marked work, rather than in terms of a feeling or a predicted grade.

Good targets for IGCSE are narrow and mechanical. Tabulating and plotting a data set without losing presentation marks. Structuring an eight-mark evaluation so it reaches a judgement rather than listing two sides. Completing a Cambridge 0580 Paper 4 section in the time allowed. Each of those is visible in a marked script, and either it has happened or it has not.

Bad targets are the ones most tutoring is sold against: improve in maths, build confidence, cover the syllabus. Confidence is a consequence rather than a purchase, and syllabus coverage is the school's job. If a provider will not commit to a checkable six-session target, you have no way to evaluate the spend and you will end up renewing out of uncertainty, which is precisely the behaviour the vague target produces.

If the target has not moved at session six, the correct response is to change something rather than to add hours. Usually it is the tutor or the diagnosis. Occasionally it is the conclusion that tutoring was not the lever, and the honest recommendation is the school's own provision, a conversation with the subject teacher about tiering, or simply more sleep. We would rather give that advice and lose the booking than take a seventh payment for an hour we do not believe in.

08

What a free trial should and should not mean

Free trials are near-universal in this market and they vary wildly in what they actually are. The version worth having is a full-length one-to-one session with the tutor who would teach your child, in the slot you intend to use, with no card details taken and no obligation afterwards. Anything less is a sales call with a different name.

Watch for three substitutions. A twenty-minute assessment rather than a lesson, which tells you nothing about how the person teaches. A session with a consultant rather than the tutor, so the person you meet is not the person who turns up in week two. And a trial that requires payment details upfront with a cancellation window, which is a subscription with a trial period attached and should be described as one.

There is a related rule we hold to on these pages: nothing described as free should carry an unstated condition. If a trial requires a minimum booking afterwards, that has to be said on the same screen as the word free, not in terms linked from the footer. We say it here because the research behind these pages found several providers in this market doing the opposite.

Use the trial properly and it is the most valuable thing in this entire page, because it is the only part that costs nothing and tells you the most. Ask the tutor to describe the papers for your child's syllabus code. Ask what they will not do with coursework. Ask what your child should be able to do in six sessions. Then ask your child, afterwards and alone, whether the hour was useful. A fifteen-year-old's verdict on that question is unusually accurate.

Where we tutor

Where the cost of travel lands in this catchment

In-home rates include travel, so geography is priced into what a Muhaisnah family is quoted. These are the communities involved and what each does to that calculation.

Muhaisnah

Off Al Awir Road with no rail connection, so any in-home tutor is quoting for a drive through the afternoon peak. That premium is the clearest part of the price difference between the two formats here.

Al Qusais

The nearest well-served district and the usual school destination. Tutors based here quote Muhaisnah families at the lower end of the in-home band simply because the journey is short.

Al Nahda

Journey times to and from here swing by twenty-five minutes depending on the hour, which is why evening in-home quotes from this direction tend to sit higher than the distance suggests.

Mirdif

Short in distance, slow at the school gates. Tutors living in Mirdif are the most common in-home option for Muhaisnah families and are usually priced mid-band.

Al Garhoud

Quick access west, older schools and the shortest practical run in this cluster. In-home quotes from Garhoud-based tutors are competitive, though the subject spread is broad rather than specialist.

Dubai Festival City

Reachable outside peak and home to schools running both IGCSE and IB. Families schooling here but living in Muhaisnah pay the travel premium twice over if they also buy in-home support.

Al Warqa

Large residential area with heavy school provision and a reasonable local tutor supply. Most of that supply teaches Indian-curriculum subjects, so IGCSE specialists are still thin on the ground.

Al Mizhar

Villa district beyond Mirdif with almost no local tutoring market. In-home quotes here reflect the drive rather than the teaching, which is the clearest argument for the online option.

Nad Al Hamar

Short runs to Festival City and Rashidiya. Among the few parts of this cluster where an early-evening in-home visit arrives roughly on time.

International City

Distant from IGCSE provision and price-sensitive. Families here get the most from the lower end of the online market and very little value from any in-home arrangement.

School ecosystem

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Set the budget before the shortlist

Decide what the next AED 1,000 is for this year, then look at the rate table and see which tier it reaches. A family that picks a tutor first and a budget second almost always ends up buying thinner support across more subjects than it intended.

  2. 02

Send the syllabus code and the marked work

The board and code from the school, not the student, plus the most recent marked paper. A specialist reads more from one marked script than from a paragraph of description, and it prevents the commonest waste in this market: paying for the wrong syllabus.

  3. 03

Pick one subject and one checkable target

Name the narrow capability that should exist by session six, in terms visible in a marked script. Plotting without losing presentation marks, or an eight-mark evaluation that concludes. Vague targets make the spend impossible to evaluate later.

  4. 04

Use the free trial as a test, not a formality

A full lesson with the actual tutor in the slot you intend to keep, nothing charged. Ask them to describe your child's papers, ask what they will refuse to do with coursework, then ask your child privately whether the hour was useful.

  5. 05

Review at session six and decide, not drift

Look at the marked work against the target. Continue, change the tutor, change the diagnosis or stop. Renewing because you are unsure is the single most expensive habit in this market and a clear target at the start prevents it.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Figures published with their sources

Every dirham amount on this page names the provider or rate table that published it and the month it was collected. Three of six strongly ranking competitor pages in this cluster publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars, which is not what a Dubai family transacts in.

No expiring session bundles

A monthly package with sessions that do not roll over turns a school trip or a week of travel into pure cost, and Dubai families miss sessions. We run a weekly slot with no upfront block, or a bounded block with a fixed start and end so the total is known.

We will say when a cheaper option is better

If a child's difficulty is generic, a small group or the school's own revision clinic serves them better than one-to-one at a specialist rate. If what is needed is homework supervision, that is a different and far cheaper purchase. Both conversations cost us revenue.

Travel is not priced into the lesson

Online delivery means you are paying for teaching rather than for a drive through the Al Ittihad Road peak. The in-home band of AED 180 to 500 includes that journey, and from a Muhaisnah address the journey is a substantial part of what the premium covers.

Six sessions, one checkable target

We agree in advance what should be true by session six in terms visible in the student's own marked work, and we review it. A spend that cannot be evaluated gets renewed out of uncertainty, which is how families in this catchment end up spending the most for the least.

No reproduced board material, no inflated claims

Past papers and syllabus documents are linked from the board rather than sold as a pack, we publish no self-asserted ratings or student statistics, and we claim no approval from KHDA, the Ministry of Education or any examination board.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Muhaisnah: your questions answered

What is the going rate for an IGCSE tutor around Muhaisnah?+

Published Dubai rates span a factor of eight. Budget online provision starts at roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour depending on the provider. Qualified subject tutors working online sit around AED 150 to 300, with one Dubai agency publishing IGCSE from AED 150. In-home one-to-one visits are quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 with travel included. Specialists run AED 200 to 450 and above, and a premium examiner-branded provider publishes AED 650. Those figures belong to the providers named, collected in October 2026. The step that changes the lesson is from the budget tier to the qualified tier.

Is the cheapest tutor in this market a false economy?+

Not always, and it depends what you actually need. If the requirement is homework supervision and someone to keep a Year 9 student on task, the budget tier does that and paying specialist rates for it is waste. If the requirement is moving a Year 11 Extended mathematics grade, the budget tier generally cannot describe the papers, which is most of what the final months are about. The expensive mistake is not buying cheaply; it is buying the wrong category. Decide which of the two problems you have before comparing rates.

What does a monthly tutoring package work out to per session?+

An AED 799 monthly package of eight online sessions, as published in this market, works out around AED 100 a session, which is well below the qualified-tutor hourly band. Two questions decide whether it is genuinely cheaper. How long is a session, because fifty minutes is not an hour. And do unused sessions roll over, because a Dubai family will miss some for school trips, travel and illness. A package with expiring sessions converts every missed lesson into pure cost, and that is where the apparent discount goes.

Where do families in eastern Dubai waste the most money on tutoring?+

Five places, none of them the hourly rate. Booking three subjects at once, which triples the cost and usually produces three thin efforts. Starting in March, which buys a worse product at a higher price. Paying for a tutor teaching the wrong syllabus code. Keeping a slot the school run has already defeated, so sixty minutes are paid for and forty delivered. And paying specialist rates for homework supervision, which is a genuine need available far more cheaply. Each is avoidable before the first session.

Should we buy twenty hours upfront to get the discount?+

Only after you know the match works. Bulk hours at a lower rate are a saving if all of them are the right hours, and a trap if they are not, because they make leaving expensive and families persist with a tutor they would otherwise have changed in week two. That is the costliest outcome available. The sensible order is a free trial, then a small number of sessions, then a review at session six against a stated target, and only then a longer commitment if you want one.

How much should a Year 11 family in Muhaisnah expect to spend across the year?+

Using the published bands, one hour a week with a qualified online tutor across a thirty-week year lands at roughly AED 4,500 to 9,000, and specialist exam-year support at roughly AED 7,500 to 15,000 or more. Four two-hour in-home visits a month works out near AED 12,000 to 13,500 annually. A bounded ten-week pre-series block of two sessions a week is roughly AED 3,000 to 6,000 in total. The realistic choice is usually one subject supported properly for two terms versus three subjects supported thinly for one.

Is a small group cheaper enough to be worth it?+

A group of three or four costs roughly a third to a quarter of a one-to-one rate, which is a real saving, and it works when a student's difficulty is the same as everybody else's. The problem is that by Year 11 most students are losing marks for idiosyncratic reasons, and group teaching aims at the group's modal difficulty. So the marginal value of the hour falls faster than the price does. Before choosing, ask the subject teacher whether your child's error pattern is common or particular to them.

Do tutoring rates rise closer to the exam series?+

Specialist availability tightens and so do prices at that end of the market, and the published monthly estimates for exam-year specialist support, roughly AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for a weekly hour, reflect that. The bigger cost of starting late is not the rate, it is the product: by March the content window has shut, only technique work remains, and the better weekday slots have been taken by school revision programmes. The identical intervention in the preceding autumn is cheaper per hour and has more to work with.

Are past papers and revision materials an extra cost?+

They should not be. Cambridge, Pearson and the IB publish syllabus documents, past papers and mark schemes, and a tutor should be pointing you to the official source or working from what the school supplies. We will not reproduce or sell board material as downloads, because reproducing it is a copyright matter and, for unreleased content, worse than that. If a provider is charging for a pack of past papers, ask where the material came from and whether they are permitted to distribute it.

What should I check before paying for the first session?+

Five things in writing. Whether an hour is sixty minutes. Whether work set between sessions is marked, and whether that is included. The cancellation notice period, because a Dubai family will need to move sessions. Whether the quoted figure includes VAT, which you are entitled to ask and nobody should be vague about. And whether the free trial is a full lesson with the actual tutor in the slot you intend to use, rather than an assessment call with a consultant.

With fees flat for 2026-27, is this the year to add tutoring?+

It changes the backdrop rather than the logic. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For a family with two children in private school a flat fee year genuinely frees capacity. The useful question stays the same: is the next AED 1,000 better spent on one subject supported for two terms, or spread across three subjects for one?

How soon can I tell whether the money is doing anything?+

Six sessions, judged against a target agreed in advance and visible in the student's own marked work. For IGCSE good targets are mechanical: tabulating and plotting without losing presentation marks, completing a paper section in the time allowed, structuring an eight-mark evaluation that reaches a judgement. Bad targets are improve in maths, build confidence and cover the syllabus, because none can be checked and all of them lead to renewing out of uncertainty. If the target has not moved, change the tutor or the diagnosis rather than adding hours.

Why is an in-home tutor more expensive if the lesson is the same length?+

Because the rate includes a drive. The published in-home band of roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour covers travel to the address, and from a Muhaisnah apartment at six in the evening that journey crosses Al Ittihad Road or Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road at the worst hour. You are also paying in delivered minutes: arrival slippage of ten to fifteen minutes is normal and is not refunded. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE at all, so for us the question is academic, but it is worth understanding before comparing quotes.

Would you ever tell us not to spend anything?+

Yes, and we do. If the marked work shows the content is secure and only pacing fails, a short bounded block is enough and a year-long weekly slot is waste. If the school runs its own revision clinic in that subject, it is free, aligned to the school's own entries, and competing with it is counterproductive. If a student is sleeping five hours a night, no tutoring will fix the grade. Each of those conversations costs us a booking, and the three-session diagnostic block exists precisely so that it can end in one.

Decide the budget, then buy one thing properly

The rate you pay matters far less than what you buy with it. One subject, the right syllabus code, a slot that survives the school run, a checkable target at session six: that configuration beats a cheaper hour spread across three subjects every time, and it costs less than most families in this catchment end up spending. Send us the subject and code, the last marked paper and the two slots you trust, and we will come back with a named specialist, a figure, and a free trial lesson in the slot you asked for. Nothing is charged before that lesson, and if a cheaper route would serve your child better we will say so.
