IB IGCSE Home Tuition in the UAE

IB IGCSE home tuition in the UAE usually means one thing in practice: a household with a child in IGCSE Year 11 and another starting the IB Diploma, and one budget covering both. This page publishes what that costs - the AED bands the UAE market charges stage by stage, what pushes a quote to the top of a band, and what the money actually buys. Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, with the first lesson free and no card details taken.

IB & IGCSE in the UAE

What a two-board household is really paying for

Most UAE families who search for IB IGCSE home tuition in the UAE are not buying one service. They are buying two, in the same month, often for two children. IGCSE support is short-horizon, code-specific work: Cambridge 0580 or Pearson 4MA1, a tiering decision, past papers marked against the right scheme. Diploma support runs for two years: Higher Level depth, an Internal Assessment with lettered criteria and fixed mark allocations, and a predicted grade that universities will read. One invoice, two completely different pieces of work.

The reason the compound search exists is structural. KHDA's 2024-25 figures put 387,441 students across 227 private schools in Dubai, offering 17 different curricula, with the UK curriculum taking 37 per cent of enrolment and the International Baccalaureate 7 per cent. A large share of UAE international schools teach IGCSE to the end of Year 11 and then offer the Diploma, so the same family often has one child finishing a Cambridge or Pearson series while another is three weeks into DP1. Two boards, one evening, one budget.

What that costs is answerable, and almost nobody answers it. Of the ranking pages surveyed for this cluster in October 2026, three published no price at all and the two that did quoted US dollars. So this page starts with the number. It sets out the AED bands the UAE market charges at each stage, names where each band comes from, and then explains the seven variables that decide where inside a band a particular quote lands. Those bands are the market's, not a price list of ours.

After the number comes the arithmetic that matters more: the five-year run from Year 10 through to DP2, year by year, with the point in each year where families reliably waste money. The commonest waste is not an expensive tutor. It is four hours a week in a subject the student was already passing, or a first session booked in April for a series that starts in May, or Extended material taught to a candidate entered for Core. Each of those three mistakes costs more than the gap between a mid-band tutor and a specialist one, and each is avoidable with a single question put to the school in writing.

One thing is fixed before you read further. Tuition for UAE families is delivered one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send a tutor to a UAE address; home visits are a service offered only in India. The home-tuition question is a fair one and it is answered honestly below, including what the UAE market charges for a tutor who drives to you and what that premium is paying for. The case for video is made on cost per learning hour, not on convenience.

At a glance

  • Market online rates for a qualified IGCSE subject tutor run roughly AED 150-300 an hour; Diploma Higher Level specialists run higher
  • A tutor travelling to a UAE address is priced at roughly AED 180-500 an hour once travel is absorbed
  • Five IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3 count towards Ministry of Education equivalency; Arabic and Islamic education are excluded from that five
  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is granted free of charge for two years - ask to see it
  • Cambridge final entries close in the term before the papers for both the June and the November series, months ahead of the first exam
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four programmes account for nearly every enquiry from a two-board UAE household. The notes below say what each one assesses and what it means for the hours you buy, because the hours a Year 10 IGCSE student needs and the hours a DP2 Higher Level student needs are not interchangeable.

IGCSEAges 14-16 - Years 10 and 11

Cambridge and Pearson International GCSE

Two years of separate subject courses, each ending in terminal written papers. Cambridge splits most syllabuses into Core and Extended, with Core capping the attainable grade; Pearson uses Foundation and Higher tiers, with Foundation capped at grade 5. The syllabus code decides everything about tutoring: 0580 and 4MA1 cover similar mathematics but set different papers, and a session spent on the wrong mark scheme is a session spent twice.

In the UAE the practical decision is usually tiering rather than content. A Year 10 student sitting mid-way between Core and Extended has a real choice, and it is worth more than any extra weekly hour. Ask the school which code and tier your child is entered for before buying a single session, and ask again in January of Year 11, because entries are confirmed well before the papers.

MYPAges 11-16 - Years 6 to 11

IB Middle Years Programme

Criterion-referenced assessment across eight subject groups, scored against four criteria per subject on a 1-8 scale rather than a percentage. Parents who moved from a British or Indian system often cannot read an MYP report at all, which is why MYP enquiries are so often about interpretation rather than content. The Personal Project in the final year is assessed on the student's own process and must remain their own work throughout.

Several UAE schools run MYP to Year 10 and then switch to IGCSE for Year 11, or run MYP straight into the Diploma. Which route your school takes changes what Year 10 support is for: a student heading into IGCSE needs exam technique early, while a student heading into DP needs written reflection and command-term discipline instead.

DPAges 16-19 - Years 12 and 13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects across two years, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Each subject carries an Internal Assessment with its own lettered criteria and fixed mark allocations - the Mathematics exploration is marked out of 20 across five criteria and carries 20 per cent of the subject grade, and the science investigation is marked out of 24. Higher Level is not Standard Level with extra homework; it is additional syllabus and, in several subjects, an extra paper.

UAE schools sit the May session, which puts the bulk of Internal Assessment deadlines in the preceding autumn and winter - the period when family travel and the Ramadan timetable both bite. A DP plan built in the UAE has to be built around that calendar, not around a generic school year, and the cheapest hours in the whole Diploma are the ones spent on an IA in DP1 term one.

PYPAges 3-12 - FS1 to Year 6

IB Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary, inquiry-led learning with no external examinations. Support at this stage is almost never remedial in the exam sense; it is about securing number fluency, reading comprehension and written structure before a secondary curriculum starts assuming them. Weekly one-to-one sessions here are often the single cheapest intervention a family will ever buy, because the gaps are small and the hours needed are few.

PYP in the UAE sits alongside mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies from the primary years, taught in separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students. Families who treat Arabic as a subject to catch up on later tend to find it is the hardest line on the report to repair, and the one that needs the most consistent weekly contact.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

Diploma subjects first, then the IGCSE grid below it. Each note says what the component actually assesses and where marks go missing, because that is what decides whether an hour of tuition is worth its rate.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Algebraic fluency carried at speed, proof, calculus and the exploration. The Higher Level paper set adds a third paper of extended problem-solving. Marks are lost on unjustified steps and on notation, not on ignorance of the topic.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and technology-led work, assessed on interpretation in context as much as on calculation. Students who arrive from IGCSE expecting formula recall find the written justification the hardest change.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms, with units and significant figures carried through every calculation. The scientific investigation is marked out of 24 across four criteria and carries 20 per cent of the grade.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics, fields and the Higher Level extensions, with a heavy premium on defining quantities precisely. Most lost marks are in the uncertainty and graph-gradient questions rather than in the concepts.

Biology

HL and SL

Volume of content plus command-term discipline. The difference between describe, explain and evaluate is worth several grade points to a student who has been writing recall answers since IGCSE.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and evaluation, with three Internal Assessment commentaries drawn from published news articles. Higher Level adds quantitative questions and a policy paper that rewards structured judgement.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tool-led analysis with a research-based Internal Assessment. Students lose marks by describing a company instead of applying a framework to a decision and then weighing the alternatives.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Unseen analysis, the learner portfolio and the Individual Oral built around a global issue. The hardest shift from IGCSE is analysing a text nobody has taught you.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Programming constructs, data structures and the solution-development Internal Assessment. The IA is a build with documentation, and the documentation is where the criteria put the marks.

Psychology

HL and SL

Studies used as evidence rather than as anecdotes, plus an experimental study report. Marks concentrate in the critical thinking criterion, which rewards weighing a study's limitations.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

The IGCSE grid matters more than parents expect, because the code and tier your child is entered for change what every session should contain. Confirm both with the school before booking.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core or Extended - Pearson 4MA1 Foundation or Higher

Algebra, trigonometry and graph interpretation. Cambridge Core sits on Papers 1 and 3 and caps the grade at C; Extended sits on Papers 2 and 4. Pearson's Foundation tier caps at grade 5. The tier decision is the highest-value conversation of Year 10.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 - Pearson 4PH1

Cambridge assesses practical skills in a separate Paper 5 practical test or Paper 6 alternative to practical; Pearson examines practical skills inside its two written papers. That single difference changes what a session needs to cover.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 - Pearson 4CH1

Moles, rates, electrolysis and organic basics. The content overlaps heavily across boards but the question styles do not, and a candidate drilled on the other board's past papers rehearses the wrong phrasing.

Biology

Cambridge 0610 - Pearson 4BI1

Transport, genetics and ecology. Cambridge's Core syllabus removes whole subtopics, so a Core candidate taught from Extended material is paying for content that will never be examined.

English

Cambridge 0500 First Language - 0510 and 0511 as a Second Language - Pearson 4EA1

Directed writing, summary and extended response. Which route a student is entered for decides whether sessions go on essay structure or on comprehension and register.

Additional and Further Mathematics

Cambridge 0606 - Pearson 4PM1

Post-Extended extension courses in calculus, series and vectors. Worth the hours mainly for students heading to Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, and a poor use of money for anyone else.

Economics and Business

Cambridge 0455 and 0450 - Pearson 4EC1 and 4BS1

Data response and structured essays. Marks are lost on diagram labelling and on answers that describe rather than analyse, which is the same habit that costs Diploma students later.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three patterns cover nearly every two-board household. The right one depends on how close the nearest series is and how many children are being supported at once.

Weekly one-to-one, one board at a time

A fixed weekly slot per subject with the same specialist, running from the start of the academic year. This is the pattern that costs least per grade point because it catches gaps while they are still small - a shaky mole calculation in October is a twenty-minute fix, and the same gap in February is a term's worth of repair.

  • One slot per subject, same tutor, same evening
  • Written feedback after each session, naming the next thing to practise
  • Paused rather than cancelled during school exam weeks

Two children, two boards, one evening

Back-to-back slots for a Year 11 IGCSE candidate and a Diploma student with two different specialists, booked as one arrangement. On a video platform the second child costs a second hour and nothing else - no second drive, no second travel surcharge, and no need for both specialists to live in the same emirate as you.

  • Consecutive slots so the household gives up one evening, not two
  • Separate specialists matched to each syllabus code and level
  • One schedule and one invoice across both children

Exam-term intensive before a series

A short, dense block in the eight to ten weeks before a Cambridge or Pearson series, or before Diploma mocks. Sessions are built around timed papers marked to the right mark scheme, with the written feedback aimed at the two or three recurring errors rather than at the whole syllabus.

  • Timed papers from the correct board, tier and code
  • Error log carried from session to session
  • Scheduling that works around the Ramadan timetable and post-Iftar evenings

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in the UAE

01

What IB IGCSE home tuition means in a house that runs two boards

The phrase covers two purchases that arrive in the same month. IGCSE support is code-specific work against a mark scheme: Cambridge 0580 or Pearson 4MA1, a tiering decision, past papers marked the way the examiner will mark them. Diploma support is long-horizon: Higher Level syllabus depth, an Internal Assessment with lettered criteria and fixed mark allocations, and a predicted grade that a university will read. Families searching this phrase are usually buying both at once, for two children, in the same week.

That compound shape is a product of how UAE schools are organised. A large share of international schools here teach IGCSE through to the end of Year 11 and then offer the Diploma, so the natural family pattern is one child mid-series and one child three weeks into DP1. The two need different tutors, different session lengths and different calendars, and the only thing they share is the bill. Treating them as one product is how families end up paying Diploma rates for Year 10 algebra.

This page answers the cost question first because almost nobody else does. Of the ranking pages fetched for this cluster in October 2026, three published no price at all, and the two that did quoted US dollars, a currency no UAE family transacts in. What follows is the AED band the market charges at each stage, the source each band came from, the seven variables that decide where inside a band a quote lands, and the five-year arithmetic from Year 10 to DP2. Lessons themselves are delivered one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time.

02

What the UAE market charges for IB and IGCSE tuition, stage by stage

IGCSE home tuition cost in the UAE sits in a wide band, and the width is informative. A university-student tutor working online advertises from roughly AED 45-150 an hour. A qualified subject tutor working online sits around AED 150-300. A tutor driving to a UAE address is priced at roughly AED 180-500 once travel is absorbed. A specialist in IB, IGCSE or A Level sits around AED 200-450 and upwards, and a single named individual with a waiting list can publish AED 650. Those figures come from published rate cards surveyed in October 2026 and from the Bestimate Dubai 2026 tutoring-cost table, not from us.

Monthly packaging tells the same story from a different angle. Online packages at around AED 799 a month for eight sessions appear repeatedly in this market, while packages involving a tutor travelling to the home cluster around AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four two-hour visits. Read those two numbers next to each other and the travel premium is visible without anyone itemising it: broadly the same contact time, a very different invoice. The table below sets out IB and IGCSE tuition rates in AED by stage, with the top-of-band trigger named for each.

Two honesty notes before you use it. First, these are market bands, not an IB Gram price list: what we quote depends on the subject, the level and how many weeks remain, and the first lesson is free with no card details taken. Second, a rate on its own predicts very little. The same AED 250 buys a transformative hour or a wasted one depending on whether the tutor is working from the correct syllabus code and tier, which is the subject of the next three sections.

03

The seven things that move the hourly number

  • Level: Higher Level prices above Standard Level, which prices above IGCSE Extended
  • Board and code specificity: 0625 practical assessment is a narrower skill than physics
  • Proximity to the series: September hours do more work than January hours
  • Travel: every kilometre driven is in the rate, itemised or not
  • Format: a group class divides the hour; one-to-one does not
  • Scarcity of the specific subject and level, not of tutors in general
  • Who holds the relationship and takes a share of the hour

A quote is not a judgement of quality. It is the output of about seven variables, and most of them are knowable before you ask for a price. Knowing which ones apply to your child is how a parent stops negotiating in the dark and starts buying the right hour at the right time of year.

The largest single factor is level, not reputation. A Diploma Higher Level hour prices above an IGCSE Extended hour because the syllabus is deeper and the marking is less forgiving, not because the tutor is rarer. The second largest is board specificity: a tutor who knows how Cambridge 0625 assesses practical skills in Paper 5 and Paper 6 is a much smaller pool than a tutor who knows physics, and scarcity in that narrower pool is what you are paying for.

The remaining variables are mostly about timing and logistics, which is where families have the most control and use it least. Hours bought in January of an exam year cost more and achieve less per hour than the same hours bought in September, because the work has become triage. Travel sits inside every in-home rate whether or not it is itemised. Group formats divide an hour between students while one-to-one does not. And whoever holds the relationship - an agency, a platform or the tutor directly - takes a share that shows up in the number you are quoted. Ask which of these seven is doing the work in your quote, and most of the mystery in this market disappears in one conversation.

04

The five-year arithmetic: Year 10 to DP2

Families almost always ask the hourly rate first and the total second, which is the wrong order. The total is decided by how many weeks you buy and when, and the difference between a well-sequenced five-year plan and a badly sequenced one is larger than any difference between two tutors' rates. A household that spends lightly in Year 10, concentrates in Year 11, invests in the transition summer and then runs one steady hour per Higher Level subject through the Diploma will spend less in total than a household that buys nothing until a crisis and then buys everything.

The transition summer is the line that gets cut first and should be cut last. An IGCSE Extended student finishes Year 11 with quadratics, trigonometry and the beginnings of calculus notation; DP1 Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level assumes confident algebraic manipulation at speed from week one. Four to eight hours across the summer closes that gap while nothing is at stake. The same gap discovered in DP1 term one costs more, because by then it is competing with new content and an Internal Assessment deadline.

The other reliable waste is Internal Assessment supervision bought late. Diploma Internal Assessments carry fixed criteria and fixed mark allocations - the Mathematics exploration is 20 marks across five criteria and 20 per cent of the subject grade, the science investigation is 24 marks - and the criteria reward decisions made at the planning stage. Supervision that starts in DP1 term one shapes the choice of topic and method. Supervision that starts four weeks before the school deadline can only tidy the writing, which is the least valuable hour in the whole Diploma.

Cost per learning hour: live online against a tutor at the door

The honest comparison is not rate against rate. It is cost per learning hour, which includes the time the household gives up, the size of the pool you can choose from and what happens when a session cannot go ahead. On rate alone, online one-to-one IGCSE tuition and an in-home visit look closer than they are; on cost per learning hour they separate sharply.

Start with the time. A tutor driving to a Dubai or Abu Dhabi address spends twenty to sixty minutes each way in evening traffic, and that cost is inside the rate whether the invoice shows it or not. A sixty-minute lesson can occupy two hours of somebody's day. Then look at the pool: in-home delivery limits you to whoever lives within a reasonable drive, while a video platform limits you to whoever is free at that hour anywhere. For a Year 11 Cambridge 0620 candidate in Al Ain or a Diploma Chemistry Higher Level student in Fujairah, that is the difference between a subject specialist and a general science tutor.

This is also where we are obliged to be plain. IB Gram delivers UAE tuition one-to-one over live video; home visits are offered only in India. We are not pretending the in-home model has no merits - a young child with attention difficulties often does better with somebody in the room - but the premium is paying for presence, not for subject depth, and most families searching for home tuition are actually buying subject depth. The table sets the two side by side.

06

Cambridge or Pearson: the same subject, two different bills

Parents rarely know which board their child is entered with, and it changes what a session should contain. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE 4MA1 cover broadly the same mathematics and examine it differently: Cambridge splits Core across Papers 1 and 3 and Extended across Papers 2 and 4, with Core capping the attainable grade at C, while Pearson runs Foundation and Higher tiers with Foundation capped at grade 5. A tutor drilling a Core candidate on Extended questions is billing for content that candidate will never be asked.

The sciences separate even more sharply. Cambridge 0625 Physics assesses practical skills in a dedicated Paper 5 practical test or a Paper 6 alternative to practical, so a 0625 candidate needs real hours on apparatus description, sources of error and graph treatment. Pearson 4PH1 examines practical skills inside its two written papers instead, so the same hours are better spent on written method and command terms. Both are legitimate; neither prepares you for the other.

Ask the school three questions and the whole plan sharpens: which board, which syllabus code, and which tier. Then ask for the past papers from that code only. Cambridge also allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones and warns that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam because the wrong zone timetable was used, so the timetable your child revises against should be the one for your centre's zone, not a version found online.

The IGCSE-to-Diploma gap, and what closing it costs

IGCSE to IB Diploma transition support is the single highest-return purchase in this whole sequence, and the one families most often skip. The reason is simple: nothing is failing yet. A student finishes Year 11 with good grades, takes a summer off, and then discovers in week three of DP1 that Higher Level assumes a fluency the IGCSE course never asked for. The gap is not knowledge of topics. It is speed, notation, justification and the expectation that an answer argues rather than recalls.

The size of the gap varies by subject and is reasonably predictable. Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level demands confident algebraic manipulation at pace, plus proof and binomial work that IGCSE never touches. Chemistry Higher Level turns qualitative descriptions of moles and energetics into quantitative reasoning with units carried through. Biology Higher Level keeps the content familiar and changes the command terms, so a student who has written recall answers for two years has to learn to explain and evaluate instead. Economics is often brand new, with diagram accuracy and evaluation expected within the first weeks.

Four to eight hours per subject across the summer and the first term is the range most families settle on, and it is cheap relative to the alternative. The alternative is repair work in DP1 term one, when the same gap competes with new syllabus content, a first Internal Assessment and the school's own assessment calendar. The table below is the version of this conversation worth having with your child's subject teacher in June, not in October.

Who may lawfully charge you for private tuition in the UAE

Private tuition in the UAE is permitted and regulated, and the regulation is worth understanding before money changes hands. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and the eligible categories are wide: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee and a two working day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No schedule of amounts has been published, so any page quoting you a specific fine figure is quoting something it cannot source. The practical test for a parent is simpler than the law: ask to see the permit. It costs the tutor nothing to hold and nothing to show, so reluctance is informative.

Two further boundaries matter. A teacher at your child's own school is a special case: ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff in Abu Dhabi bar paid private tutoring of students enrolled at that teacher's own school, and the permit's code of conduct carries a similar restriction - press-reported, so verify against the current policy document. And an operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal from an individual tutor, requiring a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute. IB Gram is an online platform with no UAE premises, and does not hold or claim any regulator's permit or endorsement.

What your money must never buy

There is a part of this market that sells finished coursework. One site found in this research set advertises completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. Buying one is academic malpractice under IB rules, and the student carries the consequence, not the seller. Any provider willing to take that money has told you exactly how much it cares about your child's result. Our position is stated plainly because it is a genuine difference: authorship stays with the student, always, and a tutor teaches, questions, reviews and gives feedback on work the student has produced.

In practice that boundary is clearer than it sounds. A tutor may explain what Criterion C rewards, look at a draft the student has written and say which paragraph fails to reflect, model an unrelated worked example, or ask the questions that make a student notice their own gap. A tutor may not be the author of any assessed component, may not supply text to paste, and may not sit beside a student during an assessed task. The same line applies to the Extended Essay, the Theory of Knowledge essay and the Personal Project.

Two more things your money should not buy. A promised grade is not a product anybody can sell: no tutor controls the paper, the markers or the boundaries, so a figure offered up front is a sales device. And nobody should be selling you syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes as downloads, because those belong to the boards. A good provider cites and links the official source instead - ibo.org, cambridgeinternational.org, qualifications.pearson.com - and teaches you how to read it.

Equivalency: the five-subject rule that decides which hours matter

MoE equivalency for IGCSE students is where a tuition budget quietly becomes a subject-choice problem. The Ministry of Education's British-track requirement, as reported in July 2026, is that a student shows five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E, or two subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects.

That last clause is the expensive one, and at least one page currently ranking for these queries states the count wrongly. If a family believes Arabic counts towards the five, they may budget for six subjects when five qualifying ones are required, or - worse - allow a qualifying subject to be dropped. The American track has its own tests: English proficiency through IELTS 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, and at least 450 in SAT Mathematics.

For the IB Diploma there is no figure on this page, deliberately. No points threshold for equivalency could be confirmed from a Ministry source, so publishing one would be a guess dressed as a fact. Check it on moe.gov.ae or with your school's IB coordinator before planning subjects around it. The equivalency and attestation process is run by the authorities, not by us: we can tell you which hours protect a qualifying grade, and we have no part in the decision itself. Tutoring is not a requirement of equivalency, admission or progression, and anyone saying otherwise is selling urgency.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies: the line nobody budgets for

  • Separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students are required; combined classes are prohibited
  • Standard Arabic is the language of instruction for Arabic first language and Islamic Education for Arabs
  • Instructional time is counted in 40-minute units, with 25 minutes the advised minimum lesson
  • KHDA requires schools to ensure Arabic and Islamic Education teachers hold the approval it issues for those subjects
  • Additional or different content needs prior Ministry permission, so support works within school material

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the international curriculum the school is licensed to teach, and KHDA's requirements were to be implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Families budgeting for IGCSE and Diploma support routinely leave these subjects out of the plan, then find them sitting on the report with marks that affect progression and nothing in the budget to address them.

The rules are specific enough to be useful. KHDA requires schools to organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and states that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because of the different curriculum expectations and language of instruction. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language; Social Studies is taught in Arabic for Arab students; for non-Arabs, the school's licensed-curriculum language applies in Islamic Education and in Moral, Social and Cultural studies.

Two operational details change how support should be bought. Mandatory-subject instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and the advised minimum for any mandatory-subject lesson is 25 minutes - so a short, frequent pattern fits this strand better than a single long weekly session. And for these subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry is strictly prohibited, which means honest support here means working within the school's own material rather than substituting a programme of our own.

The calendar that prices an hour: entry deadlines, Ramadan and the November series

An hour of tuition is not worth the same in every month, and the UAE calendar makes that unusually sharp. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series. The worked example worth keeping comes from Pearson, whose dates are published down to the day: the International GCSE November 2026 papers ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. The entry that placed a candidate in any of those windows went through the centre a term earlier, and Cambridge works the same way into June and November, which is why a tiering conversation held in the exam term is often already too late.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May or June and in November each year, with the November 2026 final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. IGCSE November series revision is therefore a genuine second route rather than a consolation: a student who misses a grade in June can be re-entered and supported through autumn with the summer's error log already written. Always check the live official timetable, since provisional versions can be revised.

Then there is Ramadan, which moves roughly eleven days earlier each year and is now drifting steadily into the middle of February, so in most years ahead it will overlap the spring mock season that UAE schools run across every curriculum before the summer papers. A Ramadan tuition timetable in the UAE usually means shorter school days, a shifted family routine and sessions that work best after Iftar. Plan that before it arrives: book post-Iftar slots in advance, move the heaviest past-paper work to January, and treat the Eid weeks as rest rather than as teaching weeks you have paid for. For IB Diploma candidates, UAE schools sit the May session, and we do not publish specific IB exam or results dates here - those come from ibo.org or your school's IB coordinator, and they are the only sources worth planning against.

Where we tutor

Seven emirates, five regulators, one timetable

Which emirate you live in changes who regulates your child's school, who approves its fees and curriculum, and where an attestation query goes. It does not change the rate, because lessons travel over video rather than over Sheikh Zayed Road.

Dubai

KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. It confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees would not rise for 2026-27, and it sets the mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies requirements that apply whatever curriculum a school is licensed to teach.

Abu Dhabi

ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate, and is named by none of the competitor pages surveyed for this cluster. IB Diploma Higher Level tuition in Abu Dhabi runs on the same video platform and the same evening slots as everywhere else, which matters on a weekday when the Corniche run would otherwise eat an hour.

Al Ain

Also ADEK territory, with a smaller international school market and a correspondingly thinner local tutor pool. This is where the pool argument for video delivery is strongest: a Chemistry Higher Level specialist does not have to live within driving distance to teach a Thursday session.

Sharjah

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in the emirate and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Families commuting into Dubai schools from Sharjah lose the most time to traffic and gain the most from an evening video slot.

Ajman

The federal Ministry of Education plays the supervising role for private schools in Ajman, rather than an emirate-level authority. Household budgets here tend to be tighter and the sensible pattern is fewer, better-targeted hours in the one or two subjects that are actually at risk.

Ras Al Khaimah

The Department of Knowledge regulates private education in Ras Al Khaimah and, like Sharjah's authority, approves fees, curricula and assessment methods. Zero competitor pages in this research set mention the emirate at all, which is a fair indication of how thinly the northern emirates are served.

Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain

Both sit under the federal Ministry of Education for private school supervision. Specialist IGCSE and Diploma subject coverage on the ground is limited, so these are the households for whom the choice is realistically between a video specialist and no specialist.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in the UAE

Dubai

Dubai's private sector added six schools during 2025-26 and enrolment rose by six per cent; the 2026-27 intake adds seven more, four UK curriculum and three IB, creating 16,846 new places. Most of the two-board households on this page come from schools that run IGCSE to Year 11 and the Diploma after it.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Jumeirah College
  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • Repton School Dubai
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

ADEK territory, with a mix of IB and British curriculum schools and a published professional-ethics position: school staff may not take paid private tutoring work with students enrolled at their own school. That rule is press-reported and worth checking against the current ADEK policy document before relying on it.

  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Raha International School
  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi

Sharjah and the northern emirates

SPEA approves fees and curricula in Sharjah, while Ajman, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain sit with the federal Ministry of Education. Subject-specialist coverage thins quickly outside Dubai and Abu Dhabi, which is why coverage and fallback are disclosed on this page rather than left vague.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the board, the code and the deadline

Three facts get a useful answer on the first reply: the exam board and syllabus code, the tier or level, and the next real deadline - a school mock, an IA hand-in or an exam series. Vague enquiries get vague quotes, and most of the variation in what families pay traces back to a vague first message.

  2. 02

A free first lesson with the specialist, not a sales call

The first lesson is free, with no card details taken and no obligation to continue. It is taught by the specialist who would keep the slot, not by a coordinator, and it ends with a written note on where the marks are currently going missing. If the match is wrong, say so and nothing further is owed.

  3. 03

A written plan with an hour count and a price before you commit

You get the number of hours proposed, what each block of hours is for, the AED figure and what happens to unused hours - in writing, before anything is paid. A plan that cannot say how many hours it needs is not a plan, and that is the point in the process where most tuition money is lost.

  4. 04

Fortnightly written feedback and a change of tutor if needed

Feedback names the next thing to practise rather than reporting that the session went well. If the match is wrong after two or three sessions, the tutor changes and the plan carries over - that is a scheduling matter, not a negotiation. Progress against the original hour count is reviewed every fortnight.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The AED figures here are the market's, not a price list

Every band on this page is attributed to a published rate card or to the Bestimate Dubai 2026 table, surveyed in October 2026. We do not dress a market range up as our own pricing, and we do not quote US dollars at families who transact in dirhams. What we quote you depends on subject, level and weeks remaining.

The specialist is chosen for the syllabus code, not the postcode

A Cambridge 0625 candidate needs somebody who knows how Paper 5 and Paper 6 assess practical skills; a Pearson 4PH1 candidate needs somebody who knows how the same skills are examined inside written papers. Video delivery means that distinction decides the match, instead of the question of who lives nearby.

Authorship stays with the student

No Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge essay or Personal Project is ever authored by a tutor here. Sessions explain criteria, question a draft the student has written and model unrelated examples. This market contains people who sell finished coursework; the consequence of buying it falls on the student.

Coverage is disclosed, including when it runs out

Some subject and level combinations have thin coverage, and for a niche Higher Level option the honest answer is sometimes that nobody suitable is free this term. You hear that rather than being matched with a general tutor at a specialist rate, and no money changes hands until a specialist is confirmed.

One schedule and one invoice for a two-board household

A Year 11 IGCSE candidate and a Diploma student can take consecutive slots with two different specialists on the same evening, billed together. The household gives up one evening instead of two, with no travel premium on either hour and no requirement that both tutors live in the same emirate.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in the UAE: your questions answered

We have one child in IGCSE Year 11 and another in DP1 - can one tutor cover both?+

Occasionally, in mathematics, and usually it is the wrong idea. The two jobs are different: Year 11 is past-paper technique against a specific syllabus code and tier, while DP1 is Higher Level depth plus an Internal Assessment with lettered criteria. A tutor strong at one is not automatically strong at the other. The better arrangement on a video platform is two specialists in back-to-back slots on the same evening, billed as one plan. The household gives up one evening rather than two, and each child gets somebody working from the right mark scheme.

What does a full IGCSE and IB Diploma plan add up to over five years in the UAE?+

It depends almost entirely on sequencing rather than on hourly rate. A household that spends lightly in Year 10, concentrates in Year 11, buys four to eight hours per subject across the transition summer and then runs one hour a week per Higher Level subject through the Diploma spends substantially less in total than one that buys nothing until a crisis. Using the market bands on this page, the second pattern costs more per grade point and more in absolute terms, because crisis hours in January price higher and achieve less than planned hours in September.

Why does the same tutor charge more for a Higher Level hour than an IGCSE Extended hour?+

Because the syllabus is deeper and the marking is less forgiving, not because the tutor is scarcer. A Diploma Higher Level subject adds content that Standard Level does not cover and, in several subjects, an extra paper, so preparation time per session is longer and the pool of people who can teach it confidently is smaller. Market rate cards reflect that: online qualified subject tutors sit around AED 150-300 an hour, while IB, IGCSE and A Level specialists sit around AED 200-450 and upwards. Level is the largest single driver of any quote you receive.

Is it cheaper to buy a block of hours or to pay session by session?+

Blocks are usually cheaper per hour and riskier per dirham. The saving is real, but so is the chance of paying for hours you stop using after a school assessment calendar changes or a subject stabilises. Before buying a block, get three things in writing: what the hours are for, when they expire, and what happens to unused ones. Pay-as-you-go suits Year 10 and early DP1, when the right number of hours is still unknown. Blocks suit the eight to ten weeks before a series, when the hour count is genuinely predictable.

Does a sibling arrangement make sense when two children sit different boards?+

Yes, as a scheduling arrangement rather than a teaching one. Putting two children in the same lesson across two boards wastes both hours, because the mark schemes and the deadlines have nothing in common. What does work is consecutive slots with two matched specialists, agreed as one plan with one invoice. On a video platform that costs a second hour and nothing else: no second drive, no second travel premium, and no need for both tutors to be in the same emirate as you or as each other.

How many hours a week does IGCSE Extended Mathematics need without overpaying?+

One hour a week per at-risk subject is where most UAE families start, rising to one or two in the final term before the series. Four hours a week in a subject the student is already passing is the commonest form of waste in this market. The useful test is diagnostic rather than arithmetic: if a session can name the two or three recurring errors and the next thing to practise, one hour is doing real work. If sessions are general revision with no error log, more hours will not fix it.

Do Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE cost the same to tutor?+

The rate is broadly the same; the content of the hour is not. Cambridge 0625 Physics assesses practical skills in a dedicated Paper 5 practical test or Paper 6 alternative to practical, so sessions need time on apparatus, error and graph treatment. Pearson 4PH1 examines those skills inside its two written papers, so the same hours go to written method and command terms. Mathematics splits the same way: Cambridge Core caps the grade at C, Pearson Foundation caps at grade 5. Ask the school for the board, code and tier before booking anything.

Can we skip Year 10 support entirely and still be fine in Year 11?+

Often yes, and it is a reasonable way to control spending - with one condition. Year 10 is when small gaps are cheap to fix: a shaky algebraic rearrangement or an unreliable mole calculation takes twenty minutes in October of Year 10 and a term of repair in February of Year 11. If you skip Year 10, buy one diagnostic session at the end of it instead. An hour that produces a written list of the gaps to close over the summer is the cheapest insurance available at that stage.

What should a tuition quote include before we agree to pay it?+

Six things: the specialist's subject and level, the syllabus code they will work from, the number of hours proposed and what each block is for, the AED figure per hour and in total, what happens to unused hours, and how feedback arrives. Also ask to see the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is granted free of charge for two years and costs nothing to show. A provider who cannot give you an hour count has not diagnosed anything yet, which means the price is a guess.

Is a tuition centre group class better value than one-to-one for IGCSE?+

Per hour, yes; per learning hour, it depends on the diagnosis. A group class divides the hour between students, so it suits a cohort with the same gap - a whole class weak on one topic, for instance. It suits poorly a candidate whose problem is specific, such as being entered for Core while working from Extended material, or losing marks on command terms rather than on content. One-to-one costs more per hour and spends all of it on your child's errors. The honest answer depends on whether the gap is shared.

Do we have to budget for Arabic and Islamic Education tuition as well?+

Many UAE families should, and almost none do. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with separate classes required for Arab and non-Arab students. Note that Arabic and Islamic education are excluded from the five IGCSE subjects counted towards Ministry of Education equivalency, so they matter for school progression rather than for that count. KHDA counts instructional time in 40-minute units, so short frequent sessions fit this strand better than one long weekly block.

Dubai school fees are frozen for 2026-27 - will tutoring rates hold too?+

The two are not connected. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package worth AED 1.5 billion. Tutoring is a private arrangement between a family and a tutor or platform, outside that mechanism, so nothing caps what the market charges. What the freeze does give you is a stable school-fee line to plan around, which makes it easier to decide how much of the education budget can go to targeted hours rather than to open-ended weekly sessions.

How does the November series change what we spend?+

It turns one expensive deadline into two manageable ones. Cambridge runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series, and Pearson International GCSE is available in May or June and in November, with the November 2026 final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026. A student who misses a grade in June can be re-entered and supported through the autumn with the summer's error log already written, which is usually cheaper per grade point than a long pre-June intensive. Check the live official timetable, as provisional versions can be revised.

What can a tutor never do with my child's Internal Assessment, however much we pay?+

Be its author. Authorship stays with the student throughout, which is an IB rule rather than a house preference, and the consequence of breaching it falls on the student. A tutor may explain what a criterion rewards, read a draft the student has written and say which part fails to reflect, model an unrelated worked example, or ask the question that makes a gap visible. A tutor may not supply text to paste, nor sit beside a student during an assessed task. Sites selling finished coursework in this market are selling the student a malpractice finding.

Can we hire a teacher from my child's own school privately?+

Treat it as off limits and check before assuming otherwise. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff in Abu Dhabi bar paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the teacher's own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct carries a similar restriction on serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. That is press-reported rather than quoted from the policy document, so verify against the current ADEK text. Setting the rules aside, there is a practical problem: the person who sets the school assessment is the worst possible choice of independent second opinion.

What happens to our money if no specialist is free for a subject?+

Nothing is taken. Some subject and level combinations have genuinely thin coverage - a niche Higher Level option in a quiet term, for instance - and the honest answer then is that nobody suitable is available rather than a match with a general tutor at a specialist rate. You are told what is and is not covered before any payment, and where coverage is limited the realistic options are a later start date, a different session pattern, or a recommendation to look elsewhere. No money changes hands until a named specialist is confirmed.

Start with one free lesson and a written hour count

Send the board, the syllabus code, the level and the next real deadline for each child. You will get a specialist matched to that code, a free first lesson with no card details taken and no obligation to continue, and a written plan that says how many hours are proposed, what each block is for and what it costs in AED before anything is paid. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, so a Year 11 IGCSE candidate and a Diploma student in the same house can take consecutive slots on one evening with two different specialists.
