IGCSE Science Tutor in The Greens

Asking for an IGCSE science tutor in The Greens is usually asking for three tutors, because a Year 11 sitting Biology, Chemistry and Physics separately has nine Cambridge papers ahead of them and roughly four usable weekday evenings to prepare. This page works out what actually fits into a Greens week, which evening to protect, and how the practical papers are assessed when nobody is standing at a bench.

  • Session times set against the bus, not the school's published bell
  • Separate specialists per science rather than one generalist for three
  • Free trial lesson first, with no card details taken to book it
  • One-to-one over live video; home visits are an India-only service

IB & IGCSE in The Greens

Three sciences and four evenings

A Greens family with a Year 11 sitting the three separate sciences is managing a bigger timetable than they usually realise. On the Cambridge route each subject carries three papers, which is nine papers in a single series. On the Pearson route each carries two, which is six. Either way, the preparation has to fit into the evenings left after a school day that ends between about three and half past three, a bus that arrives later than that, and clubs that run to half past four two or three times a week.

Count the week honestly and it is short. Monday through Thursday each offer something between ninety minutes and two and a half hours of usable time once the journey, a meal and school homework are accounted for. Friday is a half day at most Dubai schools, which makes the early afternoon the best fresh slot of the week and the one nobody books. Saturday and Sunday are the UAE weekend and the only place a full timed paper fits without compressing everything else.

That arithmetic is the whole reason this page exists. A tutoring plan that assumes three weekly hours for three sciences will collide with homework by the second week of term and be abandoned by half-term. A plan built around one rotating science, one protected long evening and a weekend paper slot survives to May. The difference is scheduling rather than effort, and it is decided before the first session rather than during it.

The second thing families misjudge is the practical paper. Cambridge candidates sit either a practical test or an alternative-to-practical paper, and Pearson assesses the same skills inside the written papers. In both cases what is being tested is reading an unfamiliar method, identifying the variable that was controlled, tabulating results, plotting them and criticising the procedure. All of that is written work. None of it requires a tutor at a bench, which is why online support covers it completely.

The third is route. Not every Greens student sits three sciences. Cambridge Coordinated Sciences 0654 awards two IGCSEs across three papers and Combined Science 0653 awards one, and Pearson's Science Double Award 4SD0 does the same job as Coordinated Sciences. A child at one of the IB continuum schools near The Greens may be in the Middle Years Programme and not sitting IGCSE sciences at all. Confirming which of these applies takes one look at the examination entry and changes the plan entirely.

Everything below is built from the week outwards: the routes, the evenings, the practical papers, where each science actually loses marks, when support has to start, and what three-subject help costs in this part of Dubai. All IB Gram lessons in the UAE are delivered one-to-one over live video; home visits are a service offered only in India.

At a glance

  • Cambridge triple science is nine papers; Pearson triple science is six
  • Friday is a half day at most Dubai schools and the freshest slot of the week
  • Practical papers test written skills, not bench technique
  • 0654 awards two IGCSEs and 0653 awards one, across three papers either way
  • Students at IB continuum schools may be sitting MYP instead

TRIPLEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge separate sciences: Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620, Physics 0625

Three IGCSEs and nine papers. Each subject carries a multiple-choice paper, a theory paper and either a practical test or an alternative-to-practical paper, and each is tiered Core and Extended. It is the route expected by most schools before A Level sciences or Higher Level Diploma sciences, and it is the heaviest option block a Year 11 can carry.

In the Emirates Living and Al Barsha clusters this is the default for students aiming at medicine or engineering, and it is where the timetable pressure on a Greens family is greatest. Nine papers in one series means revision has to be rotated rather than parallel, which is a scheduling decision made in September rather than in March.

0654Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge Coordinated Sciences 0654, double award

Two IGCSEs from three papers, covering biology, chemistry and physics in a single coordinated course. The content is compressed rather than simplified, so the common difficulty is thin coverage across a wide syllabus rather than depth in any one discipline. Core and Extended tiers both exist, and the practical component works exactly as it does on the separate sciences.

Coordinated Sciences suits a Greens student who needs science breadth without surrendering three option blocks, and it is frequently a better outcome than three separate sciences taken thinly. For tutoring it changes the diagnosis: the gaps are usually spread evenly across all three disciplines rather than concentrated in one.

PEARSONAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences: 4BI1, 4CH1, 4PH1 and 4SD0

Separate sciences carry two papers each rather than three, and practical skills are assessed inside those written papers rather than through a separate practical test. The Science Double Award 4SD0 awards two IGCSEs across three papers and plays the same role as Cambridge Coordinated Sciences on the Edexcel route.

The November series is the practical advantage here for a Greens family. Pearson runs International GCSE examinations in May and June and again in November each year, with the November 2026 final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026, so a missed science grade does not cost a full academic year.

LOWERAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Lower secondary science into IGCSE

The three years before the option blocks are chosen, ending for many Cambridge schools in Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests. The set a student lands in at the end of Year 9 often determines whether triple science is offered at all, and whether a Core or Extended entry follows two years later.

Cambridge runs Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October, so the decision window falls inside a Dubai school year rather than at its end. For Greens families the cheapest intervention of the whole five-year run is a short block in Year 9 on the two topics that decide the set.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Twelve separable pieces of work sit behind the phrase "science tutoring". These are the ones that cost marks in the schools around The Greens, grouped by subject, with the practical paper treated as its own skill because it is.

Physics: electricity and circuits

Core and Extended · 0625 / 4PH1

Series and parallel reasoning, potential dividers, resistance and power. It is the single largest source of lost physics marks because it is applied rather than recalled: the student knows the formulae and cannot decide which part of the circuit the question is asking about.

Physics: forces, moments and motion

Core and Extended · 0625 / 4PH1

Equilibrium, moments about a pivot, momentum and motion graphs. Marks disappear when the diagram is not drawn, because the pivot and the distances then get guessed. Drawing is a habit and it is cheap to install.

Physics: waves, light and sound

Core and Extended · 0625 / 4PH1

Reflection, refraction, total internal reflection and the wave equation. Ray-diagram questions reward precision with a ruler and a protractor, and students lose marks for sketches that would be correct if they were drawn accurately.

Physics: thermal physics and energy

Core and Extended · 0625 / 4PH1

Specific heat capacity, latent heat, energy transfers and efficiency. The calculations are routine and the losses are almost entirely units and the conversion between kilojoules and joules, which is a checking habit rather than a concept.

Chemistry: moles and stoichiometry

Extended mainly · 0620 / 4CH1

Reacting masses, concentrations, gas volumes and percentage yield. Arithmetic-dense and time-pressured, and the dividing line between the middle and the top grades in Extended chemistry. It responds to volume of practice rather than to further explanation.

Chemistry: acids, bases, salts and tests

Core and Extended · 0620 / 4CH1

Preparation of salts, neutralisation, and the ion and gas tests that recur in every series. These are recall marks and they are reliably available, which makes them the first thing to secure when a student is short of time.

Chemistry: organic chemistry

Core and Extended · 0620 / 4CH1

Homologous series, addition and substitution, polymers and fuels. It arrives late in Year 11 in most schemes of work and is therefore under-practised rather than genuinely difficult, which makes a short block unusually productive.

Chemistry: rates and reversible reactions

Extended mainly · 0620 / 4CH1

Collision theory, catalysts and Le Chatelier reasoning on industrial processes. Explanation questions require the mechanism of the change rather than the direction of it, and a student who says the equilibrium shifts without saying why earns part marks.

Biology: cells, transport and enzymes

Core and Extended · 0610 / 4BI1

Diffusion, osmosis, active transport and enzyme behaviour. Osmosis questions are where precise wording earns marks, since describing water movement without naming the water potential gradient scores less than it appears to deserve.

Biology: genetics and inheritance

Core and Extended · 0610 / 4BI1

Punnett squares, ratios, sex linkage and variation. The obstacle is notation and ratio reasoning rather than recall, so it behaves more like a mathematics topic and improves quickly with a couple of focused sessions.

Biology: human physiology and homeostasis

Core and Extended · 0610 / 4BI1

Circulation, gas exchange, excretion and temperature control. The volume of precise terminology is what catches students out, and active recall in short frequent bursts beats long rereading sessions by a wide margin.

Practical skills and the alternative-to-practical paper

All routes, both boards

Reading an unfamiliar method, identifying variables, tabulating, plotting with a sensible scale and criticising a procedure. Taught thinly in most schools because laboratory time is short, worth marks in every series, and entirely written work rather than bench work.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four ways to run science support through a crowded Greens week. All are one-to-one over live video, with screen sharing for past papers, graphs and marked scripts.

One science a week, rotating

A single weekly hour that moves between the three subjects in a planned rotation rather than covering whichever one feels worst. It keeps the weekly load to one evening, which is what makes it survive a full term, and it works when the gaps are modest and spread across all three.

  • One evening committed, three subjects covered across a month
  • A written rotation agreed in advance rather than chosen each week
  • Suited to Coordinated Sciences and to even weaknesses

Two sciences on the long midweek evening

Two shorter back-to-back sessions with two different specialists on the evening that has the most room. It concentrates the tutoring load into one night and leaves the rest of the week clear for homework and the mandatory UAE subjects, which carry their own weekly workload.

  • Two specialists rather than one generalist across both subjects
  • Shorter blocks, because attention falls after ninety minutes
  • Three weeknights left completely free

A weekend practical-paper block

Ninety minutes or more at the weekend spent entirely on practical and alternative-to-practical papers under timed conditions. It is the highest-yield block in IGCSE science because those skills are taught thinly at school and tested in every series.

  • Real past practical papers, marked against the published scheme
  • Tables, scales and plotting treated as marked skills
  • Procedure criticism practised rather than described

A Friday half-day slot

Most Dubai schools run a shortened Friday, which leaves an early-afternoon window with a student who is not coming off a full day. It is the freshest hour of the week and the least contested in this community, which makes it the natural home for a full timed paper.

  • A fresh student rather than an exhausted one
  • Long enough for a complete paper plus review
  • Agreed around prayer timing and family plans

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in The Greens

01

What an IGCSE science tutor is actually being hired for

Three distinct things get called science tutoring, and they need different plans. Three separate sciences means three IGCSEs and, on the Cambridge route, nine papers in one series. Coordinated Sciences 0654 means two IGCSEs from three papers covering all three disciplines. Combined Science 0653 means one IGCSE from three papers. Pearson offers the separate sciences with two papers each and the Science Double Award 4SD0 with three papers for two qualifications.

The route changes the diagnosis before it changes anything else. A triple-science student usually has one weak subject and two reasonable ones, so the money belongs on that subject and the plan is narrow. A Coordinated Sciences student usually has thin coverage spread across all three disciplines, because the course compresses a very wide syllabus, and the plan is a rotation rather than a focus. Treating the second case like the first wastes a term.

The table below sets the routes side by side. Read the papers column carefully if you are planning a revision timetable, because nine papers and three papers are completely different logistical problems even when the content overlaps. It is also worth checking against the examination entry rather than against what you remember being chosen in Year 9, since option blocks change and schools occasionally move a student between routes.

Verify every code with the board rather than with a tutoring page, this one included. Cambridge publishes syllabuses at cambridgeinternational.org and Pearson at qualifications.pearson.com, and both revise specifications on published cycles. Cambridge also allocates each examination centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong version.

Three sciences, one Greens week

This is the section every other page for this query leaves out. Secondary school days around The Greens finish between roughly three and half past three, buses load after form groups, and clubs run to half past four two or three times a week. What remains, once a meal and the school's own homework are accounted for, is four weekday evenings of between ninety minutes and two and a half hours, a short Friday, and a weekend.

The table below maps that week. Two rows matter more than the others. The long midweek evening is the only weekday slot with room for ninety minutes or for two shorter sessions back to back, and it should be protected rather than filled opportunistically. And the Friday half day, which most Dubai schools run, offers an early-afternoon hour with a student who has not just finished a full day. It is the freshest window of the week and the least booked in this community.

What does not work is three separate weekly science hours on three separate evenings. It looks reasonable on a calendar and it collides with homework in the second week of term, because Year 11 homework is not evenly distributed and a mock or a coursework deadline takes a whole evening without warning. Plans built that way are abandoned by half-term, and the sessions already paid for are the cheapest part of what was lost.

The pattern that survives is narrower: one rotating science on a fixed weekday, one protected long evening for two subjects if all three genuinely need work, and the weekend for complete timed papers. Timings in the table are indicative rather than measured, so set yours against your own school's published day and your own bus route before committing to a slot.

03

How practical skills are assessed when nobody is at a bench

Parents reasonably assume that a practical paper needs practical tutoring. It does not, and understanding why removes the main objection to online science support. Cambridge candidates sit either Paper 5, a practical test taken at the centre, or Paper 6, the alternative to practical. Pearson assesses the same skills inside its written papers rather than through a separate component. In every one of those cases the student is writing, reading and plotting rather than handling apparatus.

What the papers actually test is a short list. Reading an unfamiliar method and working out what it is measuring. Identifying the independent, dependent and controlled variables. Recording results in a table with consistent significant figures and correct units. Choosing a sensible scale, plotting accurately and drawing a line of best fit. Reading a value from a graph or finding a gradient. And criticising the procedure in a way that names a specific weakness rather than apologising for the experiment.

Every item on that list is taught better with a shared screen and a past paper than with equipment, because each one is a marking convention as much as a scientific skill. A student who plots accurately but chooses a scale that wastes half the grid loses marks a demonstration would never reveal. The school's laboratory work covers manipulation and safety, which are the school's job and not a tutoring product.

The table below sets out the component by board and route, and the right-hand column is the one to read if somebody has told you science cannot be tutored online. It can, and the practical papers are among the clearest examples, because they are the part of the course most schools teach thinnest and most families never practise.

Where each science actually loses marks

Marks in IGCSE science are lost in predictable places, and the useful consequence is that a diagnosis can be specific. Physics loses most of its marks in electricity, because series and parallel reasoning is applied rather than recalled, and in moments, because students do not draw the diagram and then guess the pivot. Both are fixable in a small number of sessions once named.

Chemistry loses marks in two very different places. Moles and reacting masses are arithmetic-dense under time pressure and separate the middle grades from the top ones in Extended papers; they respond to volume of practice rather than to more explanation. Organic chemistry, by contrast, arrives late in most Year 11 schemes of work and is simply under-practised, which is why a short block on it so often produces a disproportionate gain.

Biology loses marks to precision and volume. Osmosis answers that describe water moving without naming a water potential gradient score less than they look like they should. Genetics behaves like a mathematics topic, where notation and ratio reasoning rather than recall are the obstacle. Human physiology is a terminology load, and short frequent active recall beats long rereading by a wide margin.

The table puts those alongside an honest estimate of the session time each takes. The last row is the one worth acting on first: graph and table work on the practical paper is taught thinly everywhere, counts in every series, and is the highest-yield two sessions available in the whole subject group.

Cambridge or Pearson: what changes between the boards

Dubai's private schools run seventeen different curricula, with the UK curriculum carrying thirty-seven per cent of enrolment, and inside that share both Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE are sat. Some schools split boards by department, so a child can face Cambridge sciences and a Pearson mathematics paper in the same summer. The examination entry is the only reliable source for which applies.

Paper counts differ. A Cambridge separate science carries three papers and a Pearson separate science carries two, which changes the shape of a revision timetable even when the content largely overlaps. Tiering differs too: Cambridge sciences are entered Core or Extended, which caps the grade available, while the Pearson separate sciences are untiered.

The practical assessment is the most consequential difference. A Cambridge student has a dedicated component, either the practical test or the alternative to practical, and so has a specific paper to practise. A Pearson student meets the same skills embedded inside the written papers, which makes them easy to overlook entirely until a mock reveals them. Neither arrangement is harder; they simply need different preparation, and a tutor who assumes the wrong one will miss a component.

There is a scheduling difference as well. Pearson runs International GCSE examinations in May and June and again in November each year, with the November 2026 final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026 and November 2025 results reaching students on 22 January 2026. Cambridge runs a June series and a November series, and for a centre in The Greens that is the whole list -- the February and March series is offered to India only, so any March date you find belongs to another country. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so work from the live official timetable rather than from any restated date.

06

When science support has to start, counted from the entry deadline

The decision with a hard deadline is the tier, and on the Cambridge sciences that deadline falls months before the paper. A student in The Greens is choosing between two series, June and November, and each one closes its entries long before anyone sits anything: the June entry is made in the spring, roughly four months ahead of the first script, with forecast grades due a few weeks before the exam period and results in August. November works the same way and reports in January, which is what makes it the resit route rather than a first choice. The precise days come from the school's statement of entry, and the practical consequence does not change with them: the Core or Extended decision is locked well before the first paper, so it has to be argued in the autumn term while there is still evidence to argue with.

That matters for a Greens family because the tier caps the grade. A parent discovering a Core entry in April cannot change it for that series, however good the revision. A parent reviewing it in September has a specific conversation available with the school, based on the marks the student produces on an Extended paper under timed conditions rather than on a general sense of ability.

Working backwards from there gives a sensible calendar. Year 10 is for foundational topics and for the tier conversation. The first half of Year 11 is for the heavy content, electricity, moles and genetics, while there is still time for practice to take effect. The second half is for complete timed papers, including the practical paper, which is the component nobody has practised enough. New content introduced after the mocks rarely converts into marks.

No International Baccalaureate session or results date appears on this page. The IB's own site is not reliably readable by automated checks, so those dates should come from your school's IB coordinator or from ibo.org directly rather than from any tutoring page.

07

One tutor or three?

  • Physics, chemistry and biology fail in three different ways
  • Coordinated Sciences is the genuine case for a single tutor
  • Three diagnostic sessions usually show only one subject needs a standing slot
  • Two specialists back to back on one evening beats one generalist for two hours

A single tutor across all three sciences is cheaper to arrange and usually worse value. The three subjects fail in different ways: physics on applied reasoning, chemistry on arithmetic density and late-arriving content, biology on precision and terminology volume. A generalist will teach each one adequately and none of them well, and the first place that shows is the Extended papers where the top two grades are decided.

The honest exception is a Coordinated Sciences or Double Award student whose gaps are spread evenly across the three disciplines. There the course itself is coordinated, the content is compressed, and a single tutor who knows that syllabus can work across it coherently. That is a route-specific answer rather than a general one, which is why the route question comes first on this page.

For a triple-science student the efficient arrangement is usually one specialist for the weak subject and nothing for the other two, reviewed each term. Families who buy three weekly hours because there are three subjects are buying symmetry rather than need, and symmetry is expensive. A diagnostic on each subject costs three sessions and frequently reveals that only one of them requires a standing arrangement.

Where two subjects genuinely need work, two shorter back-to-back sessions with two different specialists on the long midweek evening beats one longer session with a generalist. It keeps the weekly footprint to a single evening, which is what makes a plan survive a Dubai term, and each hour is taught by someone who knows where that specific paper loses marks.

08

The mandatory UAE subjects competing for the same evenings

An international curriculum does not replace the UAE's own requirements, and families new to Dubai are regularly surprised by this. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, and KHDA's requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. They sit on the timetable alongside the three sciences and they generate their own homework.

KHDA is specific about how they run. Schools must organise separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and KHDA advises that any mandatory subject lesson should run at least twenty-five minutes.

For a Year 11 carrying nine science papers, those lessons and their homework are part of the arithmetic of the week. A tutoring plan that assumes the only competing work is science homework will overcommit the evenings. This is the practical reason the rotation model beats three weekly hours: it leaves room for the subjects that are compulsory whatever the family's plans for science.

If support for those subjects is what you actually need, one constraint is worth knowing. For the mandatory UAE subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry is strictly prohibited, so help has to work with the school's own material rather than import a parallel syllabus. KHDA also requires that school teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate KHDA permission to teach those subjects, which is a credential a parent can ask about directly.

09

What three-subject science support costs in this part of Dubai

Published 2026 rates across the emirate put budget and university-student online tutoring at roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, qualified subject tutors online at about AED 150 to 300, and IGCSE specialists from around AED 200 to 450 and upwards. Bestimate's Dubai cost table estimates a single weekly hour at AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to beyond AED 2,000 for exam-year specialist support. None of these figures is an IB Gram price.

Multiply that by three subjects and the reason this page argues for a narrow plan becomes financial as well as practical. Three weekly specialist hours across a Year 11 is a five-figure commitment in dirhams, for a student who in most cases has one genuinely weak science. One specialist hour plus a weekend practical block costs a fraction of it and targets the marks that are actually missing.

In-home visits are quoted in Dubai from roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the price, and advertised monthly packages of four two-hour visits run at AED 1,599 to 1,799. For a Greens household the premium costs evening minutes as well as dirhams, and the week described earlier has very few to spare. IB Gram does not make home visits in Dubai; home visits are a service offered only in India.

One piece of context on the wider cost of schooling here. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package. For a family budgeting science support across two years, a flat school fee is the one fixed point in the calculation.

Nearby areas we cover around The Greens

What changes between these communities is not the rate but the pattern of requests and the evening that works. Each note below records which science families there most often ask for and when they book it.

The Views

Shares schools and bus routes with The Greens, so it shares the same protected midweek evening. Physics is the subject asked for most often here, usually in the second half of Year 10 once circuits have been met and the first set of marks has come back.

The Meadows

Served by an IB continuum campus, so a meaningful share of enquiries turn out to be Middle Years Programme science rather than IGCSE. Checking the examination entry first saves a wasted first session and a mismatched tutor.

The Springs

Villa households where two children a year apart on the same syllabus is common. Chemistry is the frequent request, and the efficient pattern is the older sibling's topics revisited with the younger one rather than two separate standing arrangements.

Emirates Hills

Triple science is the default here for students aiming at medicine or engineering, which means nine Cambridge papers and the tightest week in the cluster. Sports fixtures rather than traffic are what break a weekly slot in this community.

Dubai Internet City

Apartment families where parents commonly work past six, so later science slots fill first. The honest caution is that graph work and practical-paper practice need an alert student, and a seven o'clock session delivers less than the calendar suggests.

Al Sufouh

Long-established campuses with large Year 11 cohorts and club programmes that regularly run to half past four. Biology is the most requested subject from this belt, usually when the volume of terminology rather than the difficulty becomes the problem.

Al Barsha and Al Barsha South

The widest choice of schools within reach of The Greens and the latest bus arrivals, which pushes the realistic start towards half past four. Families here benefit most from the long midweek evening and from the Friday half-day slot.

Jumeirah Village and Al Furjan

The longest journeys in the cluster, down Al Khail Road, with buses reaching The Greens after four. Weekend sessions do more work for these families than weekday ones, and timed papers belong there rather than midweek.

Where Greens students sit IGCSE sciences — Emirates Living and Al Sufouh

British-curriculum campuses reachable without crossing Sheikh Zayed Road, or on a short run south-west. These are the schools whose published finish times make a four o'clock start realistic, before clubs are counted.

  • Dubai British School Emirates Hills
  • Dubai College, Al Sufouh
  • GEMS Wellington International School, Al Sufouh

The Al Barsha belt and the southern campuses

Longer journeys and later bus arrivals, which push the earliest useful session towards half past four. Families from this group lean hardest on the long midweek evening and on the Friday half-day, when the student is still fresh.

Campuses where a 14 to 16-year-old may not be sitting IGCSE science at all

IB continuum schools near The Greens run the Middle Years Programme at this age, which is criterion-assessed rather than examined by paper. If your child attends one of these, confirm the programme before booking anything described as IGCSE science support.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Confirm the route and the tier

Check the examination entry for the route and the codes: three separate sciences, Coordinated 0654, Combined 0653, Pearson separate sciences or 4SD0, plus Core or Extended where Cambridge applies. That single line decides whether you need one tutor or three and what the plan should look like.

  2. 02

    Send the real arrival time

Tell us the school and when the bus actually reaches The Greens, plus which evenings carry fixtures or clubs. Slots are set against that rather than against the school's published finish, which is why they survive a term instead of lapsing by half-term.

  3. 03

Take one diagnostic per subject in question

The free trial is a full session with no card details taken. For a triple-science student it is usually run on the subject the last report flagged, and it comes back with named topics rather than an impression. More often than families expect, only one of the three needs a standing arrangement.

  4. 04

Build the week, not the subject list

One rotating science on a fixed weekday, the long midweek evening protected for two subjects if all three genuinely need work, and a weekend or Friday slot for complete timed papers including the practical paper. Three separate weekly hours on three evenings is the plan that fails.

  5. 05

Review on marked papers each term

At the end of each block the student sits a complete paper, practical paper included, marked against the published criteria. The result decides whether a subject continues, changes or stops. Stopping is a legitimate outcome and it is recommended when the evidence supports it.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The week is designed before the sessions are sold

Secondary days around The Greens end between about 15:00 and 15:30 and buses and clubs push arrival later, leaving four usable weekday evenings, a short Friday and a weekend. A plan built on that reality survives to May; one built on three symmetrical weekly hours does not.

A specialist per science, not a generalist for three

Physics fails on applied reasoning, chemistry on arithmetic density and late content, biology on precision and volume. Matching each subject to someone who knows where that paper loses marks is why two shorter back-to-back sessions beat one long generalist hour.

The practical paper taught as written work

Method reading, variables, tabulating, scale choice, plotting and procedure criticism are marking conventions as much as scientific skills, and all of them are taught better with a shared screen and a past paper than with apparatus. It is the thinnest-taught and highest-yield part of the course.

Route confirmed before anything is booked

Coordinated Sciences, Combined Science, triple science and the Middle Years Programme are different jobs, and students at the IB continuum campuses near The Greens may not be sitting IGCSE science at all. Checking the entry first avoids a mismatched tutor and a wasted first month.

Rates presented as the market's

Every AED figure here comes from published Dubai rate cards and Bestimate's 2026 Dubai cost table and is labelled as such. Three of the six competitor pages researched for this market publish no price at all, and two quote in US dollars rather than dirhams.

No travel, no centre, no ambiguity

Lessons are one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram has no Dubai office and makes no UAE home visits; home visits are an India-only service. The in-home rates on this page belong to other providers and are shown so the premium is visible.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Greens: your questions answered

Should my child take three separate IGCSE sciences or Coordinated Sciences?+

It depends on where they are going rather than on how able they are. Three separate sciences is the route most schools expect before A Level or Higher Level Diploma sciences, and on the Cambridge syllabuses it means nine papers in one series. Coordinated Sciences 0654 awards two IGCSEs from three papers and preserves two option blocks for other subjects. A student taking three sciences thinly often ends up with worse grades than one taking Coordinated Sciences properly, so discuss it with the school before Year 10.

Which IGCSE science route do schools near The Greens teach?+

All of them appear within reach of the community. British-curriculum campuses in Emirates Living, Al Sufouh and Al Barsha run Cambridge or Pearson separate sciences and the coordinated or double-award routes, and the IB continuum campuses near The Greens run the Middle Years Programme at this age instead, so a fourteen to sixteen-year-old there may not be sitting IGCSE science at all. The examination entry settles it. Schools are named on this page as neighbourhood context only, with no affiliation implied.

How do we fit three sciences into one week of after-school time?+

By not giving each one a separate weekly hour. Secondary days here end between about 15:00 and 15:30, buses load after form groups and clubs run to half past four, which leaves four weekday evenings of roughly ninety minutes to two and a half hours each. The pattern that survives is one rotating science on a fixed weekday, the longest midweek evening protected for two subjects if all three need work, and the weekend or the Friday half-day for complete timed papers.

How are IGCSE science practicals assessed if the tutoring is online?+

The assessed practical component is written in every case. Cambridge candidates sit a practical test or the alternative-to-practical paper; Pearson embeds the same skills inside its written papers. What is tested is reading an unfamiliar method, identifying variables, tabulating with correct units, choosing a sensible scale, plotting accurately and criticising a procedure. All of that is taught better with a shared screen and a past paper than with apparatus. Manipulation and safety belong to the school's laboratory lessons.

What time can an IGCSE science session start after the school bus reaches The Greens?+

Around 16:00 for schools inside Emirates Living and closer to 16:30 for the Al Sufouh, Al Barsha and southern campuses, once the bus and any club are accounted for. Published finish times are not departure times, since secondary buses load after form groups. Treat those figures as indicative and set your slot against your own school day and bus route. Families who book 16:30 generally keep the slot until May; families who try 15:30 usually abandon it by October.

Is one science tutor enough, or do we need three?+

For a triple-science student, usually one, and rarely three. The three subjects fail differently, so a generalist teaches each adequately and none well, but most students have one genuinely weak science rather than three. Three diagnostic sessions typically show which. For a Coordinated Sciences or Double Award student the answer flips: the course is coordinated and compressed, the gaps are spread across all three disciplines, and a single tutor who knows that syllabus can work across it coherently.

Which IGCSE science paper covers the practical component?+

On the Cambridge separate sciences and on Coordinated and Combined Science, candidates sit either Paper 5, a practical test taken at the centre, or Paper 6, the alternative to practical, depending on what the school enters. On Pearson's separate sciences and Science Double Award there is no separate practical paper; those skills are assessed inside the written papers. Check which applies on the examination entry, because a student who has only practised one format finds the other unfamiliar in the hall.

Does Edexcel International GCSE science differ from Cambridge for a Greens student?+

Yes, in three ways that change preparation. Paper counts differ, with three papers per Cambridge separate science against two per Pearson subject. Cambridge sciences are tiered Core and Extended, which caps the grade the entry allows, while the Pearson separate sciences are untiered. And the practical skills sit in a dedicated Cambridge paper but inside the Pearson written papers, which makes them easy to overlook entirely until a mock reveals them. Neither is harder; they need different practice.

When should a Year 10 in The Greens start IGCSE science support?+

Early in Year 10 if the tier decision is still open, because that is when evidence can still influence it. Cambridge entries close months ahead of the papers on both of the series a Dubai candidate can sit: the June entry is made in the spring and the November entry earlier still, and the exact day is on your school's statement of entry. Either way Core or Extended is locked long before the exam period and cannot be revised by revision. If the entry is fixed, the useful starting point is a diagnostic on the subject the last report flagged, aimed at naming two topics rather than describing a weakness.

Where do Greens science students lose the most marks across the three papers?+

In physics, electricity and moments, because both are applied rather than recalled and the diagram often is not drawn. In chemistry, moles and reacting masses under time pressure, and organic chemistry, which arrives late in Year 11 and is simply under-practised. In biology, osmosis wording, genetics notation and the sheer volume of physiology terminology. Across all routes, the graph, table and procedure-criticism questions on the practical paper, which are taught thinly everywhere because laboratory time is short.

Can science sessions run during the Dubai school holidays?+

Yes, and holidays do more work per hour than term time. The Dubai academic year breaks for around a fortnight in December, again in spring and for nine or ten weeks in summer, and those breaks sit awkwardly close to the examination series. A block of alternate-day sessions through a break closes a topic gap at a quieter point in the calendar, with a student who is not already tired from a school day and with nothing else competing for the evening.

What does supporting all three IGCSE sciences at once cost in The Greens?+

At the published Dubai specialist band of roughly AED 200 to 450 an hour, three weekly hours across a Year 11 is a five-figure commitment in dirhams. Qualified subject tutors online sit at about AED 150 to 300, and Bestimate's Dubai cost table puts a single weekly hour at AED 600 to 1,200 a month in the middle of the market. Since most triple-science students have one genuinely weak subject, one specialist hour plus a weekend practical block usually costs a fraction and targets the missing marks.

Do the mandatory UAE subjects leave room for science tutoring midweek?+

They take real space, which is why the rotation model exists. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools whatever the licensed curriculum, and KHDA's requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit and they generate their own homework. A plan that assumes science homework is the only competing work will overcommit the four usable weekday evenings.

Can my child sit IGCSE science papers as a private candidate in Dubai?+

Yes, through an examination centre rather than through a tutor, and the administration is more demanding than the examination. The centre handles the entry, fees are set by the centre and the board, and deadlines fall earlier than families expect. Practical components need particular attention, since a Cambridge practical test has to be taken at a centre equipped for it. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so work from the live official timetable rather than from a restated date.

What does an IGCSE science tutor do in the first session?+

Works a real past paper with the student and reports back on named topics rather than impressions. For a Cambridge candidate that usually includes a few questions from the alternative-to-practical paper, because it is the component least practised and the quickest to diagnose. The session should also confirm the route and tier on the examination entry and establish whether the weakness is content, technique or practice, since those three point to very different plans and very different costs.

Send the route, the bus time and the weak subject

Three facts get this right first time: which science route the examination entry shows, what time the bus actually reaches The Greens, and which subject the last report flagged. We come back with specialists for that subject, the hours they can hold in Gulf Standard Time, and a week that leaves room for school homework and the mandatory UAE subjects. The first session is free, takes no card details, and ends with two named topics. Practical and alternative-to-practical papers are covered in full, because those components are written rather than performed. All UAE lessons are one-to-one over live video.
