IB Home Tutor in The Greens

Families in The Greens search for an IB home tutor because they want someone close by who genuinely knows the Diploma syllabus. The honest answer is that proximity and syllabus knowledge rarely arrive in the same person. IB Gram matches your child to a Diploma subject specialist and teaches one-to-one over live video, in a Gulf Standard Time slot that fits the Al Thanya Street school run. Home visits are a service we run only in India, so nothing here promises a tutor at a Dubai address.

  • One-to-one Diploma sessions over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time
  • One free trial lesson per family, with the tutor you would continue with
  • Matched by subject and level, never by which building you live in
  • Written session notes to the parent after every lesson

IB & IGCSE in The Greens

Who in New Dubai actually teaches the Diploma, and how a parent finds out

A search for an IB home tutor in The Greens is almost never a search about geography. It is a search about competence. The parent typing it has a Diploma student in DP1 or DP2, a mock result that was lower than expected, and a reasonable suspicion that the person who helped with Year 9 maths cannot help with Paper 3. The word 'home' is in the query because that is how tutoring has always been described in this part of the world, not because the family cares where the lesson physically happens.

So answer the real question first. Within a fifteen-minute drive of The Greens there are perhaps a dozen schools, four or five of them running the full IB continuum. The pool of adults nearby who have taught a specific Diploma subject at Higher Level, marked it, and seen what a 5 looks like against a 7 is much smaller than the pool of adults who tutor school maths and science in general. Those two pools get confused constantly, and the confusion costs families a term.

The Greens is a mid-rise apartment community in Emirates Living, bounded by Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Thanya Street, sitting between The Views, Barsha Heights and Emirates Hills. Children here are spread across British, American and IB schools in Al Barsha, Al Sufouh, Emirates Hills and The Meadows. One building can hold a Year 11 at Dubai British School Emirates Hills, a DP2 at Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills and a Grade 10 at the American School of Dubai. No single local tutor covers that spread well.

IB Gram resolves it by removing distance from the equation entirely. Lessons are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video, with a shared whiteboard and the student's own past-paper script on screen. That means the Chemistry HL specialist your child gets is chosen because she has taught the 2025 syllabus and knows where candidates lose marks on the data-based question, not because she happens to live near Emirates Golf Club. IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai; we say so on every UAE page rather than letting a parent find out after booking.

What follows is the detail a parent needs to make that judgement without taking anyone's word for it: how thin the local specialist pool really is subject by subject, six questions that expose a tutor who has not read the current guide, what the Dubai market charges for each format with the source of every figure, and the exact boundary a tutor may not cross on an Internal Assessment. Read the screening questions even if you hire someone else. The Greens sits close enough to several curriculum clusters that two children in one apartment can sit different boards, so the page also covers how a parent checks which board their own school enters before paying for anything.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

IB Gram supports the three IB programmes a child in The Greens is likely to be sitting, plus the IGCSE year that usually precedes the Diploma for British-curriculum pupils in Emirates Living. Each programme is assessed in a different way, so the tutoring looks different too.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Grades run 1 to 7 per subject with up to three bonus points from the TOK and Extended Essay matrix. Most of the final grade sits in externally marked papers, with an Internal Assessment worth 20 to 25 per cent depending on the subject. The structure punishes a student who is strong in class but has never written under timed conditions against the command terms.

The Diploma is a minority curriculum in Dubai by enrolment and a crowded one around The Greens. Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills, Emirates International School Meadows, GEMS Wellington International School and GEMS Dubai American Academy all run DP within a short drive, which is why DP1 and DP2 requests from this postcode outnumber every other level we see in Emirates Living.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria each, marked 0 to 8 and converted to a 1 to 7 grade. There are no external papers until the optional eAssessment in MYP 5. The criterion wording is where marks move: a student who can do the mathematics but cannot communicate a justification loses Criterion C regardless of the answer. Tutoring at this level is mostly about teaching a child to read the criterion before starting the task.

Greens families typically meet MYP in Years 7 to 11 at Emirates International School Meadows or Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills, then face the MYP-to-DP step at 16. The jump into Maths AA HL from MYP Extended Mathematics is the single most common reason a DP1 parent in Emirates Living contacts us in October.

PYPAges 3-12 · Early Years to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led, with no formal grades and no external examinations. Reporting is against learner-profile attributes and transdisciplinary themes, which parents new to the IB often find hard to translate into 'is my child behind in maths'. Support at this stage is diagnostic: number fluency, reading age, writing stamina and the specific gaps a report card describes in prose rather than numbers.

Several Emirates Living primary cohorts sit inside IB continuum schools while their neighbours attend Regent International School in The Greens itself on a British curriculum. Parents comparing the two across a stairwell is a weekly conversation here, and it usually ends with a question about what Year 6 readiness looks like in each.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE

Two-year courses examined by terminal papers, graded A*-G by Cambridge and 9-1 by Pearson Edexcel. Tiering matters: Cambridge Core and Pearson Foundation carry a grade ceiling, so a child entered at the wrong tier cannot reach the grade a Diploma place needs. The syllabus code on the front of the past paper, not the subject name, is what a tutor has to teach to.

British-curriculum pupils around The Greens sit IGCSE at Regent International School, Dubai British School Emirates Hills, Kings' School Al Barsha and Dubai College, then split at 16 between A Level and the Diploma. A family planning the Diploma route needs the IGCSE subject choices to support it two years early.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma subjects Greens families ask for most, with what each one actually assesses. A tutor should be able to name the papers and their weightings before the first session. Where a subject is listed at both levels, the Higher Level course is a different syllabus, not the same syllabus with extra homework.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Five topics, with calculus and proof carrying the HL weight. SL sits Paper 1 and Paper 2 at 40 per cent each with the exploration at 20 per cent; HL adds Paper 3 at 20 per cent. Paper 1 is taken without a calculator, which is where fluent-but-calculator-dependent students collapse. Marks go on unjustified steps and on Paper 3's extended problem-solving.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and technology-led work, with the graphic display calculator allowed in every paper. Easier to pass and harder to score 7 in than parents expect, because the marks sit in interpretation sentences rather than algebra. HL adds financial mathematics, matrices and graph theory, plus the same Paper 3 structure as AA HL.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Structure and reactivity across two themes, assessed by Paper 1 multiple choice and short response, Paper 2 extended response, and the scientific investigation. Organic mechanisms and the data-based questions are where HL candidates lose most. A tutor who teaches it as A Level chemistry misses the IB's emphasis on uncertainty and on explaining trends rather than reciting them.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics, fields, waves and nuclear content, with HL extending into rigid-body and quantum material. Most lost marks are not conceptual: they are missing units, unstated assumptions and graph work that does not use the full range. Dubai students arriving from an American-curriculum Grade 10 often need an algebra-in-physics bridge before the content makes sense.

Biology

HL and SL

Unity and diversity across four organising themes, examined by Paper 1 and Paper 2 plus the scientific investigation. The command terms do the damage here: 'outline', 'explain' and 'evaluate' want different lengths and different structures, and a student who writes everything they know scores badly on all three.

Economics

HL and SL

Microeconomics, macroeconomics, the global economy and the policy toolkit, with HL adding quantitative questions and Paper 3. The internal assessment is three commentaries on recent news articles against a key concept, and it is routinely the easiest marks on the course to lose by picking a weak article in week one.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 guided analysis of unseen non-literary texts, Paper 2 comparative essay, the individual oral on a global issue, and an HL essay. The individual oral is where confident speakers under-score, because it is marked on the link between the extract, the work and the global issue rather than on fluency.

Business Management

HL and SL

Business organisation, human resources, finance, marketing and operations, with HL adding depth and a longer Paper 2. The internal assessment is a research project on a real organisation, and students with family businesses in Dubai often pick a company they cannot get usable data from, which caps the mark before any analysis happens.

Arabic A and Arabic B

HL, SL and ab initio

Dubai students sit Arabic across three different routes, and the route matters more than the hours. Arabic A is a literature or language-and-literature course for first-language speakers; Arabic B is language acquisition; ab initio is for beginners. Being entered on the wrong route is the most common Arabic problem we see in Emirates Living.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Core · DP1 and DP2

TOK is assessed by an exhibition of three objects and a prescribed-title essay; the Extended Essay is an independent 4,000-word research piece. Together they carry up to three bonus points. Support here is process coaching on question framing, scope and argument structure. A tutor reviews and questions the student's own drafting and nothing beyond that.

Psychology

HL and SL

Biological, cognitive and sociocultural approaches, with HL extending into the options and an experimental study report. Marks hinge on using named studies precisely and on evaluating method rather than summarising findings, which is a writing skill before it is a content one.

Global Politics and Philosophy

HL and SL

Two of the hardest subjects to staff locally and two of the most essay-dependent. Both reward a student who can hold a counter-argument and lose marks fast for description. Specialists are scarce in the UAE at Higher Level, which is exactly the case where an online match across time zones beats whoever is available nearby.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways a Diploma student in The Greens works with us, and the one we do not offer in the UAE. Every format below is delivered over live video from wherever the student is sitting, which in this community is usually a bedroom desk or the dining table after 5pm.

Weekly one-to-one, one subject

The default for a DP1 or DP2 student with one problem subject. Sixty or ninety minutes a week with the same specialist, working from the student's own class notes, mocks and past-paper scripts rather than a generic course. Ninety minutes suits Higher Level work because a full Paper 2 question plus review does not fit in an hour.

  • Same tutor every week, so the diagnosis carries forward
  • Topic chosen from the school's scheme of work, not a fixed sequence
  • Written notes after each session naming the specific errors
  • Rescheduling without penalty when a school trip or mock clashes

Two subjects, two specialists

Most Diploma students who need help need it in two places, usually a Higher Level science and Maths AA. Rather than find one person who claims both, we match two specialists and coordinate the timetable so the week is not front-loaded. The parent gets notes from both and one scheduling contact.

  • A specialist per subject instead of a generalist across both
  • Sessions spread across the week, not stacked on a Saturday
  • Shared calendar so mock weeks pause both subjects at once
  • One point of contact for rescheduling and billing

Exam-term intensive

A shorter, denser block in the eight to twelve weeks before the papers, built around timed practice rather than new content. Sessions are mostly marking a script the student wrote under exam conditions and rebuilding the three or four recurring errors. Useful when a mock result shows the content is known but the marks are not landing.

  • Two sessions a week during the final run, dropping to one after
  • Every session starts from a script written to time
  • A running error log the student revises from independently
  • Clear stop date so the family is not paying through exam leave

What we do not offer in the UAE

IB Gram does not send a tutor to an address in Dubai, and does not run in-person tuition in Dubai or anywhere else in the Emirates. Home visits are a service we run only in India. If a family in The Greens specifically wants a person in the room, the honest advice is to hire locally and use the screening questions further down this page.

  • No home visits in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah under any package
  • No physical centre, office or branch in the UAE
  • No claim of KHDA permission for a training institute, which we do not hold
  • Everything delivered over live video, stated before any payment

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in The Greens

01

What a search for an IB home tutor in The Greens is really asking

Answer first: the search means 'find me someone near The Greens who knows my child's Diploma syllabus'. The second half of that sentence is the hard part. There is no shortage of tutors willing to drive to Emirates Living; there is a real shortage of people who have taught a named Diploma subject at Higher Level and can tell you, unprompted, what each paper is worth.

The confusion is structural. Tutoring in Dubai is sold by location because location is what a classified listing can advertise. A listing says 'maths tutor, Emirates Living, available evenings'. It does not say whether the person has taught Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, whether they have seen a Paper 3 before, or whether they know that Paper 1 is sat without a calculator. A parent cannot tell those tutors apart from the listing, so they pick on price and proximity, and then discover the gap in week three.

Removing distance from the decision is what makes the real criterion visible. Once the lesson happens over live video, the only remaining questions are about the tutor's subject knowledge, their track record with the specific assessment, and whether the time slot works. Those are answerable questions. 'Is there anyone good within twenty minutes of Al Thanya Street' is not, because the answer changes every time a family relocates.

This page is therefore written as a buying guide rather than a brochure. It tells you where the local specialist supply is thin, gives you the questions that expose a bluffer, publishes the market rates with their sources, and sets out the line a tutor must not cross on coursework. Use it even if you end up hiring someone from a WhatsApp group in your own building.

02

How thin the local specialist pool actually runs, subject by subject

Dubai has a deep teaching market in absolute terms. Dubai's Media Office reported 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 curricula in 2024-25, with the UK curriculum at 37 per cent of enrolment, Indian at 26, American at 14 and the IB at 7. That last figure is the one that matters here: the Diploma is a small slice of a very large market, so the number of experienced DP subject teachers in any one neighbourhood is correspondingly small.

Split that small slice by subject and level and it gets smaller again. A school running the Diploma needs one or two Chemistry teachers, not ten. Of those, the ones free to tutor privately are fewer still, because a teacher registered at a school needs the MoHRE private tuition work permit and, under the code of conduct attached to it, should not be tutoring students enrolled at their own school. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff make the same point explicitly. The practical effect in Emirates Living is that the DP Chemistry teacher two streets away is often precisely the person who cannot take your child.

That leaves three honest options for a Greens family: an experienced local tutor who teaches the subject but not the Diploma specification, a Diploma specialist who happens to be nearby and available, or a Diploma specialist anywhere in the world teaching over video at a Gulf Standard Time slot. The table sets out where each subject sits. Where the nearby pool is thin, we say so rather than pretending otherwise, and we say what we do about it.

The fallback matters more than the headline. If no UAE-based specialist is free for a Higher Level subject, we match the student to a Diploma specialist outside the UAE and run the session at a Gulf Standard Time slot the family chooses. The tutor's location is disclosed before the trial lesson, not after. No competitor page in our research disclosed a coverage limit at all, and several routed UAE parents to non-UAE phone numbers without saying where delivery actually happened.

03

Six questions that tell you in ten minutes whether a tutor knows the syllabus

  • Ask which papers the subject has and what each is worth, before anything else
  • Ask which syllabus year the student is on and what changed in it
  • Ask what the internal assessment is marked against, by criterion
  • Ask about a student they could not help, and listen for a real diagnosis
  • Ask whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit

Credentials are easy to assert and hard to verify from a WhatsApp message. Syllabus knowledge is the opposite: it is almost impossible to fake for ten minutes, because the Diploma's assessment structure is specific and a person who has taught it answers these questions instantly. Ask them on the phone before you book anything, including before you book a free trial with us.

The pattern to listen for is precision. A tutor who has taught the subject names papers, weightings, durations and command terms without being prompted. A tutor who has not talks about confidence, foundations and personalised plans. Neither answer is dishonest, but only one of them tells you the person has sat in front of this specification. The table gives you the question, what a real answer sounds like, what a vague one sounds like, and why the gap matters for your child's grade.

Two further checks are worth making and take a minute each. Ask which year's syllabus the student is on, because the sciences and Mathematics have both been revised in recent cycles and a tutor working from an older guide will teach content that is no longer assessed the same way. And ask the tutor to tell you about a student they could not help. Anyone who has taught for five years has one, and the answer tells you how honestly they diagnose.

Finally, ask about the permit, politely and directly. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated: individuals giving private lessons need the MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and the official route is MoHRE's own 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing' service. A tutor who does not know what you are asking about is telling you something.

What an in-home tutor in The Greens costs, and what the drive costs you

Three of the six competitor pages in our October 2026 research publish no price at all, and the two that do quote US dollars, which is not the currency a Dubai family transacts in. So here are the Dubai market bands in AED, with the source of every figure named and dated. These are market rates, not IB Gram's price list: our own commercial answer is a free trial lesson and a quoted plan after it, because the right number depends on subject, level and how many weeks are left.

Read the in-home row carefully, because it hides the real cost. A published AED 180 to 500 per hour for a visit includes travel in the sense that the tutor is not billing it separately. It does not include the constraint travel imposes: a tutor crossing Sheikh Zayed Road at 5pm will take an hour over a twenty-minute journey, which means they can teach three students an evening rather than five, which is why the rate is higher. It also means they will only accept a slot that fits their route, so the family loses control of the timetable.

The second hidden cost is tutor-pool size. Accepting in-home delivery narrows the candidate list to people who will drive to Emirates Living on a Tuesday. For IGCSE maths that is a large enough pool. For Diploma Chemistry at Higher Level it is sometimes a pool of one, and the one is whoever is free rather than whoever is right. Paying AED 350 an hour for a generalist in the room is worse value than paying less for a specialist on screen, and that is the trade the table is really describing.

Monthly packages circulate in this market too. Published examples at the time of writing include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits. Bestimate's Dubai 2026 estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Check what a package includes before comparing it to an hourly rate; the number of contact hours is often the difference.

Where Diploma marks are actually lost, and why a generalist misses them

  • Bring the last marked script, not a list of topics the student finds hard
  • Ask the tutor to name the single recurring error before planning anything
  • Expect timed practice from week two, not from the final term
  • Keep an error log the student can revise from without the tutor present

The gap between a 5 and a 7 is rarely a content gap by DP2. The student has met the material; the marks are going somewhere specific and identifiable. A tutor who knows the specification finds that place in one marked script. A tutor who does not teaches the content again, which the student already half-knows, and the mock result moves by a point at most.

In Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, the usual leak is procedural rather than conceptual. Students lose marks for unjustified steps, for answers given to the wrong accuracy, and for abandoning a Paper 3 problem after the first unfamiliar sentence. Paper 1 without a calculator exposes anyone who has learned to check every line on a graphic display calculator, and no amount of extra content teaching fixes it. The fix is timed non-calculator practice and a method of showing working that earns the method marks even when the final answer is wrong.

In the sciences, two patterns dominate. The first is the command term: 'explain' wants a mechanism, 'outline' wants brevity, 'evaluate' wants both sides and a judgement, and a student who writes a full paragraph for all three loses marks on two of them. The second is the data-based and practical material, where uncertainties, significant figures and graph ranges carry marks that have nothing to do with chemistry or physics knowledge. In the essay subjects the equivalent failure is description: a Global Politics answer that explains what happened, without an argument, caps itself.

This is why the diagnosis in the first session matters more than the tutor's charm. Bring the most recent marked paper to the trial lesson, including the examiner's or teacher's annotations. A specialist will read it and name the pattern. If the first session is spent on introductions and a generic assessment, you have learned something useful about the tutor, for free.

06

The line a tutor may not cross on an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or TOK essay

  • Teaching the criteria, questioning the argument, reading drafts: all fine
  • Supplying text, rewriting to final form, choosing the question: never
  • Data must be the student's own, collected or sourced by them
  • Coursework support starts early or it cannot be done honestly

Some providers in this market sell completed coursework. One in our research set advertises finished Internal Assessments at a fixed price. That is academic malpractice under IB rules, and the consequence lands on the student, not the seller: a malpractice finding can cost the Diploma. Any Greens parent shopping for Diploma help will encounter these offers, so the boundary is worth stating plainly.

What a tutor may legitimately do is substantial. They can teach the skills the task assesses, explain the criteria in plain language, help a student narrow a research question from something unanswerable to something manageable, question an argument until its weaknesses surface, point at a paragraph and say it does not do what the criterion asks, and read a draft and give feedback. They can model an example on a different topic entirely. All of that is teaching.

What a tutor must refuse is equally clear. No supplying text for the student to submit. No rewriting a paragraph into final form. No choosing the research question outright. No sourcing or fabricating data the student has not collected. No editing a draft to the point where the voice and reasoning are no longer the student's. IB Gram tutors are briefed on this boundary and asked to decline the request rather than negotiate it, which occasionally annoys a parent in week one and protects the candidate in May.

There is a practical consequence for scheduling. Because the tutor cannot produce the work, coursework support has to start early enough for the student to do it themselves. A family coming to us six weeks before an internal deadline has a narrower set of honest options than one coming in September, and we will say so rather than take the booking and under-deliver.

07

Reading a KHDA inspection report before you blame the tutor

Dubai's private schools are regulated by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. KHDA inspects annually and publishes a rating on a six-band scale from Outstanding down to Very Weak. The report is public, it is long, and almost no parent reads past the headline band. The sections that matter for a tutoring decision are buried in the middle.

Look for the subject-level judgements rather than the overall band. A school rated Very Good overall can be Acceptable in Diploma mathematics, and that single line explains more about your child's situation than the headline does. Look also at the attainment-against-progress split: a cohort with high attainment and weaker progress is a cohort that arrived strong and was not stretched, which is a different tutoring problem from one with weak attainment and good progress.

Two pieces of Dubai context are worth holding alongside the report. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under the second economic incentives package. And Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three IB, creating 16,846 new places, after six opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose by six per cent. A market adding IB capacity that fast is a market where experienced Diploma teachers are being recruited away from tutoring, which is part of why the specialist pool stays thin.

None of this makes tutoring compulsory, and it is worth saying so. Plenty of Diploma students in Emirates Living get through without any outside help. The report is a diagnostic tool for a parent deciding whether the problem sits with the child, the subject, the teaching or the fit, and that question deserves an answer before anyone spends AED 300 an hour on it.

Scheduling from The Greens: the school run, Ramadan and the honest version of availability

  • Earliest realistic weekday start from The Greens: around 4.15pm
  • The slots that hold through term: 5pm, 6.30pm and 7.30pm Gulf Standard Time
  • Ramadan sessions move to post-Iftar; the original slot is held for afterwards
  • Tutor location disclosed before the trial lesson when no UAE specialist is free
  • A review date agreed at the start, so the plan has an end

Session timing in this community is decided by two things: when the bus gets back, and when the parent gets home. Secondary school days around Al Barsha, Emirates Hills and Al Sufouh end between 2.45pm and 3.30pm, and a bus route through Barsha Heights or across Al Thanya Street adds thirty to fifty minutes. A child from The Greens is realistically at a desk by 4.15pm at the earliest, and anyone promising a 3.30pm start has not driven the route. The slots that actually hold are 5pm, 6.30pm and 7.30pm Gulf Standard Time.

Ramadan shifts everything. School hours shorten, afternoons are low-energy and the usable study window moves to after Iftar. Families who keep their regular 5pm slot through Ramadan generally lose the sessions; families who move to a post-Iftar slot keep them. We ask about it a few weeks ahead rather than letting four weeks of cancellations happen, and we hold the original slot so the family can move back afterwards.

Then there is the question nobody else in this market answers: what happens when no specialist is free. For common subjects at Standard Level, a UAE-based match in a chosen slot is usually straightforward. For Higher Level Chemistry, Global Politics, Philosophy or a specific Arabic route, there may be no UAE-based specialist available at the hour the family wants. In that case we match a Diploma specialist outside the UAE, run the session at Gulf Standard Time, and say where the tutor is based before the trial lesson. If we cannot cover the subject at all, we say that too rather than substituting a generalist.

The final scheduling truth is about stopping. A good plan has an end: a mock, a session, a specific grade threshold, or a point where the student is running their own revision. Open-ended weekly tutoring that continues because nobody reviewed it is the most common way money gets wasted in this market. Ask for a review date at the start, and hold us to it.

Where we tutor

The Greens and the communities its students actually come from

A page about The Greens that does not mention the streets around it is useless. These are the communities in the same cluster, with the detail that changes a tutoring plan: where the schools are, how long the drive takes at 3pm, and what a family in each place tends to ask for.

The Views

The Greens' immediate neighbour across Al Thanya Street, sharing the same retail strip and the same school buses. Families here often have children in two different curricula and ask for one scheduling plan that covers both.

Barsha Heights (TECOM)

A short hop north across Sheikh Zayed Road, with a high proportion of apartment households and a mixed school pattern. Requests from here skew towards IGCSE and DP1 subject rescues rather than long-term support.

Al Barsha and Al Barsha South

Where several of the schools serving The Greens actually sit, including Kings' School Al Barsha, GEMS Dubai American Academy and Nord Anglia International School Dubai. The 3pm pick-up from here is the reason so few sessions can start before 5pm.

Emirates Hills and The Meadows

Villa communities a few minutes inland, feeding Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills, Dubai British School Emirates Hills and Emirates International School Meadows. Diploma demand per household is higher here than anywhere else in the cluster.

The Springs and The Lakes

Townhouse communities on the far side of Emirates Living, with a strong British-curriculum pattern and an IGCSE-heavy request profile. Many families here are planning an A Level or Diploma split for Year 11.

Al Sufouh and Knowledge Park

Home to Dubai College and GEMS Wellington International School, plus the university cluster. Older siblings at university here are often the first tutors a Greens family tries, which is a reasonable experiment with a predictable ceiling at Higher Level.

Dubai Marina and JBR

Dense high-rise living fifteen minutes west. Shared-apartment study conditions are tighter than in The Greens, and evening sessions there run later because parents commute back from Business Bay and DIFC.

Jumeirah Lake Towers

Across the tram line from the Marina, with a similar high-rise profile and a heavy IGCSE caseload. JLT and Greens families frequently compare notes on the same tutors, which is why we keep match records by subject rather than by area.

Dubai Internet City and Media City

The commercial strip immediately north of The Greens, and the reason many parents here are home only after 7pm. Late slots at 7.30pm or 8pm Gulf Standard Time are booked more often from this postcode than from the villa communities.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in The Greens

IB continuum schools serving The Greens

Students we support in Emirates Living attend these schools. They are named here as context for the curriculum a tutor has to teach to, and because a parent comparing two offers deserves to know which programmes each school actually runs.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • Emirates International School Meadows
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • GEMS Dubai American Academy
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai

British-curriculum and other schools in and around The Greens

The IGCSE and A Level side of the same neighbourhood. Regent International School sits inside The Greens itself; the rest are a short drive through Al Barsha, Emirates Hills or Al Sufouh.

  • Regent International School
  • Dubai British School Emirates Hills
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Dubai College
  • American School of Dubai

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the subject, the level and the session

Not 'maths help'. We need the subject, whether it is Higher or Standard Level, which Mathematics route if it applies, the school, and whether the student is entered for a May or November session. Those five facts determine who the right tutor is, and three of them are on the front of a past paper.

  2. 02

    Send the last marked script

A recent mock or test with the teacher's annotations is worth more than any description of what the student finds hard. It shows where marks are actually going, which is usually not where the student thinks. If there is no marked script, the trial lesson starts with a short timed question instead.

  3. 03

Meet the matched specialist in a free trial lesson

One free trial lesson per family, with the tutor you would continue with rather than a sales call. The tutor reads the script, names the recurring error and proposes a plan. If the tutor is based outside the UAE, we tell you before the lesson, not after.

  4. 04

Agree a plan with a review date

Number of sessions a week, session length, which weeks pause for mocks, and the date we will sit down and ask whether this is still worth paying for. Ninety minutes suits Higher Level work; sixty is usually enough at Standard Level.

  5. 05

Read the session notes and act on one thing

After each lesson the parent gets notes naming the topic, the specific errors and the practice set. The notes are short on purpose. Pick the one recurring error and ask the student about it mid-week; that single habit does more than an extra session.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched by subject and level, not by postcode

Because lessons run over live video, the tutor is chosen for having taught your child's subject at your child's level. A family in The Greens gets a Diploma Chemistry specialist rather than whoever is willing to drive down Al Thanya Street on a Tuesday evening.

The coverage limit is disclosed, not hidden

When no UAE-based specialist covers a subject at the hour you need, we say so and tell you where the matched tutor is based before the trial lesson. No competitor page in our October 2026 research disclosed a coverage limit anywhere.

Rates in AED, sourced and dated

Every price band on this page carries the provider that published it and the month we read it. We do not publish an invented IB Gram price list; the quote follows the free trial lesson, when we know the subject, the level and how many weeks are left.

A stated boundary on coursework

Tutors teach the criteria, question the argument and give feedback on the student's own drafts. They do not supply text for submission or choose the research question. Tutors are briefed to decline those requests outright.

Scheduling built around the Dubai school day

Session times assume a 3pm finish in Al Barsha or Emirates Hills and a bus through Barsha Heights, not an imaginary 3.30pm start. Ramadan slots move to post-Iftar by arrangement, with the term-time slot held.

Independent, with nothing to misrepresent

IB Gram holds no KHDA permit for a training institute, no IB authorisation and no partnership with any school named on this page. Saying so costs nothing and is the difference between context and a false claim.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Greens: your questions answered

Does IB Gram send an IB home tutor to an apartment in The Greens?+

No. IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; that is a service we offer only in India. Diploma tuition for a family in The Greens is delivered one-to-one over live video, with a shared whiteboard and the student's own marked script on screen. We target the phrase because it is what parents search, and then answer it honestly rather than taking a booking we cannot fulfil. If you specifically want a person in the room, hire locally and use the six screening questions on this page before you pay anyone.

Why is a Chemistry HL specialist harder to find near Emirates Living than a GCSE maths tutor?+

Numbers. Dubai's Media Office reported 387,441 private school students in 2024-25, with the IB at around seven per cent of enrolment, so Diploma teaching is a small slice of a large market. A school running the Diploma employs one or two Chemistry teachers, not ten. Of those, the ones registered at a school need the MoHRE private tuition work permit and, under its code of conduct, should not tutor their own enrolled students. GCSE and IGCSE maths, by contrast, is taught in every school in the emirate. The supply difference is structural, not a reflection of Dubai's teaching quality.

How can I check that a tutor has actually taught the current Diploma syllabus?+

Ask them to weight the papers in your child's subject at the level they sit, without looking it up. Someone who has taught it will say Paper 1 thirty per cent, Paper 2 thirty, Paper 3 twenty and internal assessment twenty for a Higher Level science, and will tell you unprompted that Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches Paper 1 is sat without a calculator. Then ask which syllabus year the student is on and what changed in it. The sciences and Mathematics have both been revised recently, and a tutor working from an older guide will teach content that is no longer assessed the same way.

My child is at Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills. Do you support students from that school?+

We support students who attend it, and that is the limit of the relationship. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills or from any other school named on this page; the schools are listed so you can see which curriculum and which programmes a tutor has to teach to. In practice it matters because the tutor works from your child's own scheme of work, internal deadlines and mock papers rather than a generic course, so knowing the school tells us which assessment calendar the plan has to respect.

What does an in-home Diploma tutor charge per hour around The Greens?+

Published Dubai market bands in October 2026 put an in-home one-to-one visit at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour: Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table quotes AED 180 to 350, and independent home tutors advertise AED 200 to 500. Monthly in-home packages of AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits also circulate. Those are market figures from the providers who publish them, not IB Gram prices. The premium over an online rate is mostly travel: a tutor crossing Sheikh Zayed Road at 5pm teaches fewer students an evening and prices accordingly.

Is a cheaper university-student tutor a false economy for Higher Level subjects?+

Not always, and it depends on the job. For homework supervision, keeping a Standard Level student on top of weekly content, or rebuilding confidence in a subject that collapsed, a capable undergraduate at the AED 33 to 150 band published by providers like Tutopiya and EdFlik can be good value. For Higher Level paper technique it usually is a false economy, because the marks sit in command-term discipline, timed practice and internal assessment criteria that someone needs to have taught rather than merely passed. The test is simple: ask them to weight the papers.

Can one tutor cover both Maths AA HL and Physics HL for the same child?+

Occasionally, and we are cautious about it. The overlap in content is real, but the assessment skills differ: Paper 3 problem-solving in Mathematics is a different discipline from the uncertainty and graph work that carries marks in Physics. Where one tutor genuinely has both specialisms we will match them, because continuity helps. More often we match two specialists and coordinate the timetable so the week is not stacked, with notes from both going to the same parent and one contact for rescheduling. Two specialists usually beat one generalist on both subjects.

How many hours a week does a Diploma student in The Greens usually start with?+

Most start with one ninety-minute session a week in one subject. Ninety rather than sixty, because a full Paper 2 question plus review does not fit in an hour at Higher Level. Students with two problem subjects usually run two sessions a week with different specialists, spread across the week rather than stacked on a Saturday. In the final eight to twelve weeks before the papers, families often move to two sessions a week in the weakest subject and then stop entirely during exam leave, which is a deliberate end rather than a drift.

What is a tutor allowed to do with my child's Internal Assessment draft?+

A tutor may explain the criteria in plain language, help narrow an unanswerable research question into a manageable one, question the argument until weaknesses surface, point at a paragraph and say it does not satisfy the criterion it is aimed at, and give written feedback on the student's own draft. A tutor may not supply text for submission, rewrite a paragraph into final form, choose the question outright, or source data the student has not collected. IB Gram tutors are briefed to decline those requests rather than negotiate them, because a malpractice finding costs the candidate the Diploma.

Must a tutor teaching a child in The Greens hold a MoHRE permit, and is there a fee for it?+

Yes to the permit, and no to the fee. Individuals giving private lessons in the UAE need the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. The u.ae guidance states it is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. The official route is MoHRE's 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing' service. Anyone tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published.

Can a family in The Greens book a session after 7pm Gulf Standard Time?+

Yes, and from this postcode it is a common request. Many parents here work in Dubai Internet City, Media City or Barsha Heights and are not home before 7pm, so 7.30pm and 8pm slots are booked more often from The Greens and The Views than from the villa communities inland. Later slots also suit students whose school bus gets back after 4pm. The practical limit is the student's concentration rather than our availability: a ninety-minute Higher Level session starting at 8.30pm tends to produce less than a sixty-minute one at 7.30pm.

What happens if the tutor you match us with turns out to be the wrong fit?+

Tell us after the trial lesson or after any session, and we rematch. The trial exists precisely so that a mismatch costs nothing: one free trial lesson per family, with the tutor you would actually continue with rather than a sales call. When a rematch is needed we ask what specifically did not work, because 'not the right fit' usually resolves into something concrete like pace, accent, pitch or the tutor teaching content when the student needed paper technique. That detail makes the second match better than a blind reshuffle would.

Does my child need a separate quiet room for an online Diploma session?+

A door that shuts helps more than a dedicated room. The Greens is an apartment community, so most of our students here work at a bedroom desk or the dining table with headphones. What genuinely matters is a flat surface big enough for a past paper and a notebook, headphones so the student hears the tutor's annotations, and a camera angle that lets the tutor see written working. Working through a phone makes the session substantially less useful, because the tutor cannot see the mathematics as it is being written.

Should we wait for the mock results before starting Diploma support?+

Usually no, but bring the mock when it arrives. Waiting costs weeks that the student needs, and the diagnosis does not depend on the mock: any recent marked script with teacher annotations shows where the marks are going. What the mock adds is a timed, full-length data point, which is why we ask for it as soon as it comes back and often restructure the plan around it. The one case for waiting is a student two weeks from a mock who would simply lose revision time to a new timetable.

How do I tell whether my child needs Higher Level stretch or Standard Level consolidation?+

Look at the marked script rather than the grade. A student losing marks on the last part of each question, or abandoning a Paper 3 problem after the first unfamiliar line, needs stretch and timed practice at the top end. A student losing marks spread evenly across every question, including the opening parts, has a content gap that stretch work will not touch. The two need different tutors and different session structures, and the distinction is visible in ten minutes to someone who has marked the specification. It is the first thing a trial lesson should establish.

Start with the question, not the postcode

If you are searching for an IB home tutor in The Greens, the useful version of that search is: which specialist has taught this subject at this level, and can they teach at 6.30pm Gulf Standard Time. Send us the subject, the level, the school and the exam session, with the most recent marked script if you have one. We will match a Diploma specialist, tell you where that tutor is based, and run one free trial lesson before any payment. If we cannot cover the subject properly, we will say so and point you at the screening questions above so you can hire well locally instead.
