IB Tutor near me in The Greens

Typing 'IB tutor near me' from an apartment in The Greens returns a list of people who are close by. The Diploma does not reward closeness. It rewards somebody who knows that a Higher Level subject carries 240 teaching hours, what the internal assessment in it is marked out of, and what the word limit on that assessment is. IB Gram matches on exactly that and teaches one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, so the filter is the syllabus rather than the drive from Barsha Heights.

IB & IGCSE in The Greens

Why distance is the least useful thing to filter an IB tutor by

The Diploma is six subjects across six groups, three of them at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, a 4,000-word Extended Essay and creativity, activity and service. Each of those parts is assessed differently, and several of them have word limits, page limits and criterion letters that a tutor either knows or does not. A search ordered by distance cannot see any of that. It returns the adults nearest to your building, sorted by how near they are, which is a sensible way to find a plumber and a poor way to find somebody who can explain what the three bonus points on the Diploma are for.

The Greens makes the point sharply because of its scale. It is a mid-rise apartment community beside Emirates Golf Club with one school inside it, Regent International School, on the British curriculum. Most local Diploma students are therefore travelling out of the community to study, typically to Al Barsha or across Sheikh Zayed Road to Emirates Living, where the two nearest IB schools sit. The set of people living within fifteen minutes who have taught a specific Higher Level subject is small, and it gets smaller the more specific the subject becomes. For English A or Business Management it may be adequate. For Higher Level Physics, Chemistry, Economics or a Language B, it frequently is not.

IB Gram removes distance from the problem rather than working around it. Lessons are one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. That means a Greens family is choosing from tutors matched by subject group, level and the specific internal assessment in front of their child, rather than from whoever is willing to cross Sheikh Zayed Road on a Tuesday evening. For an apartment household there is a secondary gain as well: no visitor parking, no building access, no lift, and a session that begins when a sixteen-year-old sits down rather than when a car finds a space.

The page that follows is built to be checkable. It lists the six subject groups and what each contributes to a score out of 45. It sets out the Higher Level workload in hours, so a family can see what three HL subjects actually costs a week. It publishes the word and page limits for the core components and the main internal assessments in one table, which is information no competitor page in this search carries at all. It explains, with its reasons, why there is no IB examination date anywhere on this page. And it says where IB tutoring money is most often wasted in a community like this one, which is a more useful thing to read than a list of benefits.

Read the limits table and the wasted-money table. Those two together will change how you brief whoever you end up hiring.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four IB programmes exist and only one of them is what most Greens parents mean by 'IB'. Knowing which one your child is in, and which one they are heading towards, determines what a tutor should be doing.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme

Six subjects drawn from six groups, three taken at Higher Level with 240 recommended teaching hours each and three at Standard Level with 150. Each subject is graded 1 to 7, giving 42 points, with up to three further points from the combination of Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay for a maximum of 45. Creativity, activity and service runs alongside and is a completion requirement rather than a graded component.

The two nearest Diploma schools to The Greens sit across Sheikh Zayed Road and in Emirates Hills, so local DP students are commuting. That matters for scheduling, because a DP2 student returning at four in the afternoon with three Higher Level subjects has a tighter week than their timetable suggests, and sessions realistically start from six in the evening.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

The five years before the Diploma in a continuum school, assessed against four criteria per subject group rather than by examination. Students arrive in DP1 strong on inquiry and investigation and weaker on timed written answers against command terms, which is a predictable gap rather than a surprise, and the cheapest time to close it is MYP 4 and 5.

Greens families more often arrive at the Diploma from a British-curriculum IGCSE route than from MYP, because the school inside the community runs the British curriculum. That produces the opposite profile: solid examination technique and less experience of extended independent work, which shows up first in the Extended Essay and the internal assessments.

CPAges 16-19 · two years

Career-related Programme

A less common IB route combining Diploma courses with a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. Where a school offers it, students take DP subjects alongside the career-related component, so subject tutoring looks much like Diploma tutoring while the project work has its own requirements.

Availability in Dubai is limited compared with the Diploma, so a family considering it should confirm directly with the school rather than assume it runs. For tutoring purposes the DP courses within it are taught identically; the reflective project needs the same process coaching as any independent assessed work.

PYPAges 3-12

Primary Years Programme

The primary phase of the IB continuum, inquiry-led and reported against learning outcomes rather than criterion marks or grades. Relevant to a Greens family mainly as a decision point, because choosing a continuum primary school commits a child to criterion assessment from eleven and to the Diploma structure from sixteen unless they switch systems.

Dubai's private sector carried 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 different curricula in 2024-25, with UK curriculum 37%, Indian 26%, US 14% and International Baccalaureate 7% by enrolment. The IB share is small but growing: the 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The Diploma is structured by group rather than by subject, and the group is what a tutor needs to know first because it sets the assessment pattern. The entries below cover the six groups and the two core components that carry word limits.

Studies in language and literature

Group 1 · HL and SL

Usually English A Language and Literature or Literature. Assessment combines written papers with an individual oral and, at Higher Level, an essay on a studied text. The oral is the component students most often under-prepare, because it is the only one where performance under questioning is assessed directly.

Language acquisition

Group 2 · HL, SL and ab initio

A second language at Language B level or, for a beginner, ab initio at Standard Level only. Correct level placement matters more here than in any other group, because a student placed above their level loses marks they cannot recover through effort and one placed below them caps their own score.

Individuals and societies

Group 3 · HL and SL

Economics, Business Management, History, Geography, Psychology and others. Every subject in this group carries an internal assessment with its own word limit and criteria, and marks in the written papers hinge on command terms: evaluate, discuss and examine each demand a different answer shape.

Sciences

Group 4 · HL and SL

Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Design Technology and others. The current courses share an assessment model: a multiple-choice and data-analysis paper, an extended written paper, and a scientific investigation worth twenty per cent with a 3,000-word maximum marked out of 24.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

Group 5 · HL and SL

The calculus-heavy route, expected or preferred by many engineering, mathematics and physics degrees. At Higher Level it is among the most demanding subjects in the Diploma, and the mathematical exploration that accompanies it is a 12 to 20 page piece of independent work worth twenty per cent.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

Group 5 · HL and SL

The statistics and modelling route, with less calculus and more data handling. Suitable for many social-science and business degrees, and the route to check against the published entry requirements of any specific course your child is targeting rather than against general advice.

The arts, or a second subject from groups 1 to 5

Group 6 · HL and SL

Visual Arts, Music, Theatre and Film, or a sixth subject taken from an earlier group instead. Arts subjects place heavy weight on documented process and on the exhibition or performance components, which is where students with real ability most often lose marks.

Theory of Knowledge

DP core · 1,600-word essay

An externally assessed essay of up to 1,600 words on a prescribed title, plus an internally assessed exhibition with a commentary of up to 950 words. Together with the Extended Essay it contributes up to three points to the final score, which is the difference between an offer and a near miss more often than families expect.

Extended Essay

DP core · 4,000 words

A 4,000-word independent research essay in a subject of the student's choice, supervised in school. Support is process coaching only: narrowing the research question until it is answerable, reading the criteria properly, and giving feedback on drafts the student has written themselves.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements account for nearly every Diploma enquiry from this community, and the right one depends on which part of the programme is failing rather than on which subject it is in.

Weekly subject slot at Higher Level

A standing ninety-minute session in one Higher Level subject, held across the term. Ninety rather than sixty minutes, because a Higher Level extended-response question and its mark scheme rarely fit inside an hour and the marking conversation is where most of the value sits.

  • Start times from 6pm to 8:30pm Gulf Standard Time
  • Same tutor each week, with a written note after every session
  • Content follows the school's sequence, checked against the subject guide

Core component block

A short run of sessions on the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge or an internal assessment, timed to the school's internal deadlines rather than to the examination series. The work is process coaching and feedback on the student's own drafts throughout.

  • Research question narrowed until it is answerable in 4,000 words
  • Criteria explained letter by letter, with mark allocations
  • Feedback given on the student's own writing; no text supplied

Pre-examination technique run

A concentrated block before mocks or the final series, aimed at papers rather than content. Command terms, answer structure, paper timing at Higher Level length, and the specific question types a sat paper has already shown to be costing marks.

  • Full papers sat to time and marked live against published criteria
  • Command-term drills, since this is where predicted grades usually slip
  • Official papers cited and linked, never reproduced or supplied

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in The Greens

01

What a 'near me' search returns, and what a Diploma student needs

Be precise about what the search is doing. A local search ranks by proximity and prominence. It returns agencies with a Dubai address, individuals advertising in community groups, and tuition centres with premises, ordered mostly by how close they are to you and how well they have optimised. None of those signals correlates with whether somebody can tell you what the assessment criteria for a Mathematics exploration are, or what happens to a Diploma if a core component is not submitted.

The result is a shortlist that answers a question you did not ask. You wanted someone who knows Higher Level Economics; you got five people who are nearby and available. A proportion of them will be genuinely strong, and there is no way to tell from the listing which ones. In a community like The Greens, where the Diploma is not taught inside the neighbourhood and local students commute to it, the chance that the nearest available person is also a specialist in your child's particular Higher Level subject is simply low.

The table below sets the two things side by side: what the search actually filters for, and what the Diploma actually requires. It is worth reading because it also tells you what to ask. If you can name the subject, the level and the internal assessment, you can replace a proximity filter with a competence filter in a single sentence, and that works whether you are speaking to a neighbour, an agency or a platform.

02

Six groups, 45 points, and where the three extra points come from

The structure is worth understanding before any tutoring decision, because it tells you where marginal points are cheapest. A Diploma candidate takes six subjects, one from each of groups 1 to 5 plus a sixth from group 6 or a second subject from an earlier group. Three are taken at Higher Level, with 240 recommended teaching hours each, and three at Standard Level, with 150. Each subject is graded 1 to 7, which gives a maximum of 42.

The remaining three points come from the combination of Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, awarded on a matrix rather than individually. This is the part families most often ignore and it is frequently the cheapest place to find points. A student grinding a Higher Level subject from a 5 to a 6 is buying one point for a great deal of work; a student who writes a careful Extended Essay and a competent TOK essay may collect two or three for considerably less, because both are extended pieces produced over months with feedback available throughout.

That shapes a sensible tutoring plan. Before paying for weekly sessions across several subjects, look at where the realistic gains are: a core component not yet started, an internal assessment with a flawed research question, a subject where a student is one grade boundary away rather than three. The table below lists the groups and what each contributes, so a Greens parent can see the whole score on one screen before deciding where to spend.

Three Higher Level subjects: what that actually costs a week

Parents routinely underestimate the Higher Level load, and the numbers make it concrete. Three Higher Level subjects at 240 recommended teaching hours each and three Standard Level at 150 gives 1,170 hours of taught content across two years, before the Extended Essay, before Theory of Knowledge, and before creativity, activity and service. Spread over the Dubai academic year that is a full working week of school with independent work layered on top.

For a Greens student the commute compounds it. The Diploma is not taught inside the community, so a local DP student is travelling to Al Barsha or across Sheikh Zayed Road, arriving home closer to four than three. By the time they have eaten, the window for anything extra is roughly 6pm to 9pm, and in DP2 part of that window is already committed to internal assessment work with school deadlines attached. Adding three weekly tutoring sessions into that is not ambition, it is arithmetic failure, and it is why some families get worse results after buying more support.

The honest advice is to buy less, more precisely. One Higher Level subject with a standing ninety-minute weekly slot, plus a short core-component block timed to the school's internal deadlines, is a plan that survives a term. Three weekly sessions across three subjects is a plan that collapses in October and leaves a family concluding that tutoring does not work. The table below sets out the load and where support is worth adding.

THE HIGHER LEVEL LOAD, AND WHERE TUITION FITS AROUND IT
ElementHours or commitmentWhen the pressure peaksWhether weekly tuition helps
Three Higher Level subjects240 recommended hours eachThroughout, heaviest in DP2Yes, in one subject at a time

04

Word and page limits for every component, in one table

This is the single most useful reference a Diploma parent can have and almost nobody publishes it. Every independently produced component in the Diploma has a stated limit, and students routinely discover a limit after writing well past it. An Extended Essay is 4,000 words. The Theory of Knowledge essay is up to 1,600 words on a prescribed title, with the exhibition commentary up to 950. A sciences scientific investigation runs to a 3,000-word maximum and is marked out of 24 across four criteria of six marks each. A mathematical exploration is 12 to 20 pages rather than a word count.

Limits are not merely administrative. They shape what a good piece of work looks like, because a research question that needs 7,000 words to answer is the wrong research question, and most core-component failures trace back to that single decision rather than to weak writing. The most valuable hour of support available on any of these components is the one spent narrowing the question until it fits the limit comfortably, and that hour is best bought months before the deadline.

The honesty boundary is firm and worth stating in the same breath. A tutor may teach the subject content, explain each criterion and its marks, ask the questions that expose an unworkable research question, teach referencing and structure, and give feedback on drafts the student has written. A tutor may not supply text, rewrite sections or produce any part of an assessed piece. Under IB academic-honesty rules the work must be the candidate's own, and a breach is a malpractice matter for the student. At least one site competing for these searches sells finished internal assessments outright; no IB Gram tutor will produce assessed work for a student. Confirm every limit with your school's IB coordinator, since they are the authority on what applies to your child's session.

Why there is no IB examination date anywhere on this page

You will find pages quoting precise IB examination windows and results dates for upcoming sessions. This page does not, and the reason is worth explaining because it tells you something about how to read the rest of it. The IB's own site returns an error to automated access, so none of the IB session or results dates circulating in secondary sources could be confirmed against the IB itself during the research behind these pages. Publishing an unverified date to a parent planning a revision schedule is a small betrayal with real consequences, so the dates are not here.

What can be said with confidence is the shape of the year. UAE schools sit the May session, there is a November session, and your child's IB coordinator holds the authoritative dates for both along with the school's internal deadlines for every core component and internal assessment. Those internal deadlines are the ones that actually govern a tutoring plan, because they fall months before any examination and they are the points at which work is lost rather than recovered. Ask the coordinator for the full list in writing and build backwards from it.

Where dates are verifiable, this project publishes them. Cambridge International runs a June series and a November series with March available for some syllabuses, allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, and states that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable. Pearson Edexcel runs International GCSE examinations in May and June and again in November, with the November 2026 final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026. Those are from the boards' own pages. The difference between the two halves of this section is the difference between a sourced page and a confident one.

Where IB tutoring money gets wasted in a community like this one

Published Dubai rates give the context. Budget online tutoring runs roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik advertising from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor online sits at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. Specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level tutoring runs AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase quoting around AED 270 and Bestimate's 2026 Dubai survey giving the same band. Premium named tutors go higher, with BartyED publishing AED 650. Visiting one-to-one is quoted at AED 180 to 500. All of those are other providers' published figures as of the October 2026 research and not an IB Gram price list.

The waste is rarely in the hourly rate. It is in buying the wrong hours. Three weekly sessions across three subjects in DP2 is the most common expensive mistake, because the student has no capacity to use them and the sessions become supervised homework at a specialist price. The second is hiring a generalist for a Higher Level subject, which costs less per hour and produces nothing, since the gap at Higher Level is almost always command terms and criteria rather than content. The third is starting in February of DP2, when the only available lever is examination technique and the core components are already fixed.

The fourth deserves its own warning. Paying somebody to produce assessed work is not a shortcut, it is a malpractice exposure that sits with your child and not with the seller, and the consequence is borne at the point when it is most costly. The table below lists the five patterns in order of how much money they absorb, with what to do instead in each case. It is written for a Greens household weighing a term's budget rather than a single hour.

THE FIVE MOST EXPENSIVE IB TUTORING MISTAKES
PatternWhy families do itWhy it wastes moneyWhat to do instead

07

Maths AA or AI, and checking it against the course your child wants

One decision in the Diploma causes more retrospective regret than any other, and it is made in the subject-choice weeks of DP1. Analysis and Approaches carries the calculus and algebraic fluency that mathematics, physics and engineering degrees lean on. Applications and Interpretation goes further into statistics, modelling and data handling and lighter into calculus, and suits many social-science, business and design routes. Both exist at Higher and Standard Level, which makes four options rather than two.

The reliable method is to work from published entry requirements rather than from reputation. Take the two or three specific degree courses your child is considering, at the specific universities, and read what each one states about Diploma mathematics. Requirements differ between institutions for the same subject, and they differ between courses within one institution. A general belief that Analysis and Approaches is the serious option is not a substitute for reading a course page, and it has pushed plenty of students into a Higher Level course they did not need and could not carry.

Where support genuinely helps is in the diagnosis rather than the opinion. A single session with a mathematics specialist, working through one problem that needs calculus and one that needs statistical reasoning, usually shows which route fits a student's actual strengths. Do it in DP1 while the choice is live. By DP2 the question has become how to survive the course rather than which course to take, and that is a more expensive problem.

08

Starting from The Greens, and the subjects nobody can cover locally

The enquiry that gets the most useful reply names the subject, the level, the internal assessment and its current state, the last paper or predicted grade, and the two evening windows that are genuinely free. With those five things a specialist can tell you in one message whether the issue is content, technique or a component that has gone wrong, and quote a plan against your week. 'My daughter is struggling with the IB' takes a paid session to decode.

Then a free trial lesson, one per student and bookable without card details, with the tutor who would continue. For a Diploma subject a good trial includes a real question at the real level and a direct reference to the criteria. Expect the tutor to name the component and the command term rather than discuss motivation and confidence. If the match is wrong, say so and ask for another; it costs nothing and it is a better outcome than a term of polite sessions.

The coverage note is where honesty matters most. Higher Level sciences, Higher Level Mathematics Analysis and Approaches, and the less common Language B options are the thinnest specialisms, and the 6pm to 8:30pm weekday band that a commuting Greens student needs is the most contested on the platform. When no suitable tutor is free in that window you will be told, with a date, rather than matched to whoever is available. Where a UAE-based tutor cannot cover a niche subject, the alternative offered is a UAE-timed session with an IB specialist based elsewhere, in the same format at the same Gulf Standard Time hour. No tutor will be sent to a Greens address, because that is not a service offered here.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around The Greens

What a Diploma family needs from a map of the surrounding communities is not drive time but programme availability: which schools nearby actually run the DP, and which Higher Level subjects the local cohort is short of.

The Views

The adjoining community, sharing a school and a social circle with The Greens. Diploma students from both areas commute to the same handful of IB schools, so a tutor holding a late slot often teaches classmates from two postcodes in the same week.

The Meadows

Villas across Sheikh Zayed Road, where the nearest full IB continuum school sits. A number of Greens Diploma students travel here daily, which is the practical reason their weekday availability starts later than the school bell suggests.

Emirates Hills

Large villas with a Diploma school nearby. The Higher Level combinations here lean towards two sciences plus Mathematics Analysis and Approaches, which is the heaviest standard load in the programme and the one most likely to need outside support.

Al Barsha

The main secondary destination for this side of Sheikh Zayed Road, with IB provision available at more than one school in the cluster. Greens families comparing Diploma teaching strength almost always end up comparing schools here.

Barsha Heights

Minutes from The Greens and where many local parents work. The short commute means a parent is often home before a DP student has finished travelling back, which makes early-evening sessions easier to supervise from this community than from the Marina.

Al Sufouh

British-route schools on the coastal stretch, so students here sit A Levels rather than the Diploma. Relevant because Greens families weighing the two systems at sixteen are usually comparing a school here against an IB school across the road.

Jumeirah Lake Towers

Towers directly across Sheikh Zayed Road with families crossing in both directions for school. Diploma students here share the same commute constraints and the same contested evening hours as their Greens counterparts.

Dubai Marina

A longer drive, later household rhythms and several shared schools. Marina Diploma students book the latest slots available, which in practice means the 8pm band fills from this direction first.

Diploma schools within reach of The Greens

The schools a local student would realistically attend to take the IB Diploma, all of them requiring a commute out of the community. Programme availability changes, so confirm current offering with the school and check the published inspection record with KHDA.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the subject, the level and the component

Send the subject, whether it is Higher or Standard Level, which internal assessment is in progress and what state it is in, plus the last paper or predicted grade. Five specifics let a specialist diagnose the problem in one message instead of spending a paid hour establishing what your child is actually studying.

  2. 02

Get the internal deadlines in writing

Ask your school's IB coordinator for the internal deadlines on every core component and internal assessment. Those dates govern a tutoring plan far more than any examination window, because they are the points at which marks are lost permanently rather than recovered with revision.

A trial that references the criteria

One free trial per student, no card details needed, with the tutor who would continue. Expect a real question at the real level and an explicit reference to the assessment criteria. A trial spent discussing confidence rather than the subject has told you how specific the teaching is likely to be.

  4. 04

    Buy one subject, not three

Start with a standing ninety-minute weekly slot in the single subject closest to a grade boundary, plus a short block on whichever core component is furthest behind. Three weekly sessions in DP2 exceed what a student with three Higher Level subjects can absorb, and that is the most common way a budget is wasted.

  5. 05

    Review at each reporting point

Predicted grades, mocks and internal deadlines are the natural review points. At each one the plan is checked against the mark and the state of the components, and the frequency is adjusted. Stopping a subject that has reached its target is a normal outcome rather than a lost booking.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched by subject group and level

A tutor is matched to Higher Level Economics or Standard Level Chemistry specifically, not to 'the IB'. That is the filter a proximity search cannot apply, and in a community where the Diploma is not taught inside the neighbourhood it is the difference between a useful hour and a supervised one.

Component limits published openly

Word and page limits for the Extended Essay, both Theory of Knowledge tasks, the sciences investigation and the mathematical exploration are set out in one table on this page. No competitor page examined in the research behind it carries that information at all, and it is the first thing a parent needs.

No unverified dates

No IB examination or results date appears on this page, because none could be confirmed against the IB's own site during the research. Cambridge and Pearson dates are published where they came from the boards' own pages. Where a figure is unverified, the page says so instead of guessing.

The academic-honesty line stated in writing

A tutor teaches, questions, explains criteria and gives feedback on drafts the student has written. No text is supplied and no assessed work is produced. One site competing in this search sells finished internal assessments; that exposure sits with the candidate rather than the seller.

Sessions that fit a commuting Diploma student

A Greens DP student travels out of the community to school and is home closer to four than three. Slots run from 6pm to 8:30pm in Gulf Standard Time with no parking, building access or lift involved, and a session can shift by half an hour on the day without anybody losing travel time.

Rates and coverage both disclosed

Every AED figure here is attributed to the provider or survey that published it as of October 2026, and the thinnest specialisms are named rather than hidden. IB Gram holds no IB, KHDA or Ministry of Education accreditation and claims none; the facts cited here are cited, not borrowed as credentials.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in The Greens: your questions answered

What does searching for an IB tutor near me in The Greens actually give you?+

A list ordered mostly by proximity and optimisation: agencies with a Dubai address, individuals advertising in community groups, and tuition centres with premises. None of those signals tells you whether somebody knows the criteria for a mathematical exploration or when a school's internal deadlines fall. The Diploma is not taught inside The Greens, so local students commute to it, which makes the chance that the nearest available person is also a specialist in your child's Higher Level subject genuinely low. Replace the distance filter with a subject and level question and the shortlist changes completely.

How many subjects does the IB Diploma require, and at what levels?+

Six, drawn one each from groups 1 to 5 plus a sixth from group 6 or a second subject from an earlier group. Three are taken at Higher Level with 240 recommended teaching hours each and three at Standard Level with 150. Alongside them sit Theory of Knowledge, a 4,000-word Extended Essay and creativity, activity and service. That is 1,170 recommended hours of taught content across two years before any independent work, which is why adding three weekly tutoring sessions in DP2 usually backfires rather than helps.

What is the maximum Diploma score and where do the last three points come from?+

Forty-five. Forty-two of those come from the six subjects, graded 1 to 7 each, and up to three more from the combination of Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, awarded on a matrix rather than separately. Families routinely overlook the core points, which is a mistake, because they are often the cheapest available. Moving a Higher Level subject up one grade is a great deal of work for one point; writing a careful Extended Essay and a competent TOK essay can produce two or three for less, with months of feedback available along the way.

Which schools near The Greens actually offer the IB Diploma?+

None inside the community itself, since the school within The Greens runs the British curriculum. Local Diploma students commute, usually to Emirates International School Meadows or Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills across Sheikh Zayed Road, or to IB provision in the Al Barsha cluster. Schools are named here as context only; programme availability changes year to year, so confirm the current offering with the school and check the published inspection record with KHDA, which is responsible for overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai.

How long is the Extended Essay, and when should my child start it?+

Four thousand words, on a research question of the student's choosing, supervised by a teacher at school. The useful start point is the summer between DP1 and DP2, and the single highest-value hour of support on it is spent narrowing the research question until it can genuinely be answered in 4,000 words. Most Extended Essay problems trace back to that one decision rather than to weak writing. Support is process coaching and feedback on the student's own drafts; the essay has to be theirs from first word to last.

What are the word limits on the Theory of Knowledge tasks?+

The externally assessed TOK essay runs to a maximum of 1,600 words on a prescribed title, and the internally assessed exhibition carries a commentary of up to 950 words. Together with the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge contributes up to three points to the final Diploma score. Students usually find the prescribed title harder than the writing, because the title has to be unpacked before anything can be argued. Confirm the limits that apply to your child's session with their IB coordinator, since published requirements are revised periodically.

Can a tutor help with Theory of Knowledge at all?+

Yes, within clear limits, and it is often a good use of a few hours. A tutor can unpack a prescribed title until the student understands what is actually being asked, teach the difference between an example and an argument, explain the assessment criteria, and read a draft the student has written and say where the reasoning is thin. A tutor cannot supply text, choose the examples or produce the essay. Theory of Knowledge is also unusually responsive to a small amount of help, because most students lose marks on structure rather than on ideas.

Why does this page not list the IB exam dates?+

Because none could be confirmed against the IB's own site during the research behind these pages, which returns an error to automated access. Dates circulating in secondary sources may be correct and may not, and publishing an unverified date to a parent planning a revision schedule is not a small error. What can be said is that UAE schools sit the May session, a November session exists, and your child's IB coordinator holds the authoritative dates along with the school's internal deadlines. Cambridge and Pearson dates appear elsewhere on this site because those boards publish them openly.

Three Higher Level subjects sounds heavy. How heavy is it in practice?+

Three Higher Level subjects at 240 recommended teaching hours each plus three Standard Level at 150 gives 1,170 hours across two years, before the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and service commitments. For a Greens student who commutes out of the community and is home closer to four than three, the realistic window for anything additional is roughly 6pm to 9pm, and in DP2 part of that is already committed to internal assessment deadlines. Plan one standing weekly session rather than three, and add a short block on whichever component is furthest behind.

Where do families most often waste money on IB tutoring?+

Four patterns account for most of it. Buying weekly sessions in three subjects at once in DP2, when the student has no capacity to use them and sessions become supervised homework at a specialist price. Hiring a generalist for a Higher Level subject, where the gap is criteria and command terms rather than content. Starting in February of DP2, when the core components are already fixed and only technique is movable. And paying for assessed work to be produced, which is a malpractice exposure carried by the candidate rather than a shortcut.

How do I decide between the two IB maths routes without guessing?+

Work from published entry requirements rather than reputation. Analysis and Approaches carries the calculus and algebraic fluency that mathematics, physics and engineering degrees lean on; Applications and Interpretation goes further into statistics and modelling and lighter into calculus, which suits many social-science and business routes. Requirements differ between universities for the same subject and between courses at one university, so read the two or three specific course pages your child is targeting. A single diagnostic session in DP1, with one calculus problem and one statistical one, usually settles which route fits.

Can one IB tutor cover subjects from more than one group?+

Some can, and the common pairings are genuine: Mathematics with Physics, Economics with Business Management, two sciences at Standard Level. At Higher Level the useful answer is usually no, because the depth required in each subject plus knowledge of each internal assessment's criteria is a lot to hold for two subjects at once. The arrangement that works for most Greens families is one specialist for the Higher Level subject that is costing points and, where a second subject needs maintenance, a separate tutor in a sequential slot the same evening.

My child needs 38 points for a university offer. Can tutoring deliver that?+

Nobody can promise a score, and anybody who does should be treated with real scepticism. What tutoring can do is identify where the points realistically are: a subject sitting one grade boundary below target, a core component not yet started, an internal assessment with a research question that will cap the mark whatever is written. Those are diagnosable and movable. A plan built on them is honest. A plan built on a promised total is not, and the gap between a 36 and a 38 is often two core points rather than two subject grades.

Which IB subjects are hardest to find a tutor for from The Greens?+

Higher Level sciences, Higher Level Mathematics Analysis and Approaches, and the less common Language B options are the thinnest specialisms, and demand for them peaks in the same weeks every year. The 6pm to 8:30pm weekday band that a commuting Diploma student needs is also the most contested, which compounds it. When no suitable tutor is free in that window you are told with a date rather than matched to a generalist. The alternatives are usually a Friday morning or weekend slot, or a UAE-timed session with a specialist based elsewhere.

Replace the distance filter with one sentence

The most useful change a Greens parent can make costs nothing. Stop asking who is nearby and start asking one sentence: which Higher Level subjects have you taught, and can you name the criteria for this internal assessment? That question is answerable in ten seconds by somebody who knows the course and not at all by somebody improvising, and it works equally well on a neighbour's recommendation, an agency or this page. Send us the subject, the level, the component and the two evenings that are genuinely free, and the trial lesson can be booked with the person who would actually teach it.
